ThrowBook Thursday | The Color Purple
Celie’s story has stuck with me far beyond my first read and many viewings of the movie. Much like Their Eyes Were Watching God, I loved following a character find pieces of herself throughout her life and grow stronger as a woman.
I carry so much of this story with me that I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to add it to my personal library. But with such a beautiful cover, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a spur of the moment buy ... even if I’m trying to cut down 🙈

Night Nurse - Throwbook Thursday
Night Nurse; She was lovely and warm--just what the patients needed! Dynamite in officers' ward!
After reading just the back cover, the first page and the last page I feel confident that I really don't need to read the 140 pages in between. Here's the lowdown:
A lovely, naughty, ruthless nurse decides to settle into a job at San Nicholas Naval Hospital, located somewhere in southern California. She seduces and discards countless patients. Conveniently, this is a Naval Hospital in the 1950s, so all the patients are men. Somewhere along the way our nurse encounters a patient who cracks her hardened heart and she redeems herself.

... anyone could walk in here! But I don't care. She laughed low and wanton and dug her fingers into his shoulders, burying her mouth into his chest...
Later, as they rested, she turned to him. "Now," she said, "What are you going to do about your wife?"

This is a 1960 Pyramid Books print. Original copyright is from 1951, by Star Guidance, Inc -- whatever that is.

BONUS - the back inner page features an ad for, Once More With Feeling, the outstanding Columbia picture starring Yul Brynner and the novelized book

ThrowBook Thursday | How Long ‘Til Black Future Month?
This was my introduction to both N.K. Jemisin and specualtive fiction and I’m so glad Instumbled upon it. It was also the third short story collection I read last year so I’m slowly expanding my reading into more - especially if they’re like this!

ThrowBook Thursday | The Baby-Sitters Club
This was one of the main series of books that I continuously checked out from the library when I was younger, along with Goosebumps, and American Girl. I had no idea that they had been turned into graphic novels so I’ll have to check those out soon.

ThrowBook Thursday | Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is one of the first books I remember having an immediate connection to the main character - one that looked like me - and being completely drawn into the story, making it one of my favorite reads when I was younger despite the tougher topics. It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but I never really forgot about Cassie Logan and her family.
I also never knew that this was part of a series (please forgive me! 🙈), so I will definitely be giving this a much needed reread along with the others before I jump into the latest one. I can’t wait to spend more time with this family!

ThrowBook Thursday | Addy series from American Girl
This was probably the first series of books outside of maybe Goosebumps or Babysitters Club that I repeatedly checked out from the library and reread multiple times when I was younger. Much like Cassie Logan from the Logan series (that I still have to find and finish reading immediately!), Addy Walker was one of the few characters I saw myself in on library shelves and I loved spending time with her and her family. It crossed my mind a few days ago and I found this story collection on Amazon so I may have to get it just for nostalgic purposes, but also for my library of childhood favorites.

ThrowBook Thursday | A Wrinkle in Time
Tessering with Meg Murry, Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which & Mrs. Whatsit was my first taste of science fiction. And while Meg didn’t necessarily look like me, I found a lot of similarities - the love of math and science and definitely the self-consciousness. I gave this a reread about a year or so ago, but I’ve never actually read the others in the series so I’ll have to get on that soon. I also loved the 2018 movie - it was everything my middle school self needed! 😍🤓
