Hoppy and Peter (OCs)
(Technically they're Over the Hedge OCs but they're more like my own OCs I've self-inserted into Over the Hedge)
Fun Fact: I’ve been stuck for about 2 years having to imagine what this idea of a 4-legged holland lop and semi-anthropomorphized-ish thrianta would look like together and the mental image was shockingly accurate

Hello Usagi Yojimbo community, I've been meaning to make some refs of the rabbits in the comics, but in my style, and I remember seeing people make Usagi or Usagi descendants a specific breed of rabbit and wanted to get in on that too, SO

Hate that Tumblr won't let you edit posts with polls unless you reblog and save as draft :/
I'm thinking of making Mariko a Netherland Dwarf or Blanc De Hotot. Dwarf cuz their ears look alike, and Hotot has similar ear and eye marks that resemble the lashes she's sometimes drawn with and how rounded her eyes are

Utterly fascinated about the tags on your recent reblogs. PLEASE tell me more about the domestication of rabbits and rabbit breeds this is so not my world but now I want it to be
Ty ty I am so glad you are interested! So basically every breed of domestic rabbit stems from the European rabbit, even breeds like the Tan, Thrianta, and Belgian Hare which have been selectively bred to resemble hares, and there are no other species in the entire lagomorph order that have been domesticated. As a result, cottontails are a completely different species from European (and domestic) rabbits and the two cannot hybridize. I know most people already know this but domestic rabbits usually have a very difficult time surviving in the wild, and cottontails and hares are extremely stressed in captivity- often dying from the stress even in wildlife rehabilitation centers if in captivity for too long. Not only are there over 300 breeds of domestic rabbits, many breeds often have several color and coat pattern varieties. Some breeds like the Giant Angora only have the one variety, while on the other extreme there are 45 varieties of Holland Lop recognized by ARBA as of early 2019. Hybrids are possible between different breeds of domestic rabbit breeds (and are often encouraged to introduce genetic variety and health into breeds, as well as create new breeds or varieties), but these rabbits usually aren't shown unless they meet breed standards for one breed. Most pet rabbits I've seen are generally one of the lop (notable traits include floppy ears) or rex (lack of guard hair resulting in a velvety coat) breeds, dutches (facial and lower body markings, but white hind feet), or netherland dwarfs (small, compact with short ears) or crossbreeds between those types. The ARBA Standard of Perfection (which is updated with a new edition every four years) is a really great book detailing all of the ARBA-recognized breeds and varieties, as well as common faults and disqualifications for each rabbit type. As for which rabbits I have, I currently have a Cinnamon (variety-less breed) and an English Spot (blue variety).
The tattoo in my English Spot's ear is an ID tattoo for rabbit showing, and all shown rabbits must have one in their left ear so that judges can easily tell them apart. As for why my Cinnamon has a bald spot, that's just something that happens to her specifically every year when growing her winter coat.

Psychonauts Characters as... RABBIT BREEDS
So I was on a State Breed Identification team for the American Rabbit Breeder's Association and I'm known for my rabbit stuff so... I'm gonna attach Psychonauts characters to rabbit breeds. I'm going to do my best to not have repeats and use as many breeds as I can.
(Also one of these has a sexual joke that's not explicit but it is a good warning to have)
Razputin "Raz" Aquato = Mini Rex (Castor) Mini Rexes are very generic, coming in a wide variety of... varieties (colors) and are usually people's first breed when getting into rabbits for the first time.
Coach Morceau "Morry/Oly" Oleander = New Zealand (Red Eyed White (REW)) New Zealands are known as THE meat breed and probably what Oleander raised as a young boy. He also probably owned REW New Zealands as they were the first variety and known for their meat.
Sasha Nein = Dwarf Hotot (standard) Yes, he's supposed to be tall but what other rabbit breed specifically has these eye circles that allow them to express more like Sasha did in the first game? Dwarf Hotots are actually some of the calmest breeds, similar to Sasha. And there is NO way that a Rhinelander could fit Sasha.
Camilla "Milla" Vodello = Rhinelander (Blue) Teehee. Look the fact that Rhinelander are the only breed to have the tri-color and be very active makes me think of the fact that these are very eye catching. Also the fact that these are on the bigger side versus the Dwarf Hotot makes me think of the "bunny is obsessed with girlfriend 4X his size" and I love that for Milla and Sasha.
Ford Cruller = American (Blue) I think that Ford fits the fact this rabbit is like... also a pretty standard rabbit (or it used to be) and now people don't really think about it anymore. Matches his story with the Psychonauts.
Agustus Aquato = Beveren (Blue Eyed White) Beverens are very intimidating and can be challenging to approach but they're very sweet and kind, something I think is reflected well in Augustus's story arc in Psychonauts where we're only told that he wanted Raz dead and then he's actually a very sweet and caring father.
Lili Zanotto = Mini-Lop (Lilac) I specifically wanted to go with a rabbit that I identify with being mean and I had a very hate-filled Mini-Lop that has forever tainted my view of the breed. Does not matter how sweet she is, there will always be a certain meanness about her.
Dr. Caligosto "Cal" Loboto = Giant Chinchilla (standard) Again with rabbits that are intimidating, though I've met more mean Giant Chinchillas with I think can contrast with the whole "gentle giant" stereotype. I also think that Caligosto deals with a lot of balding problems and butting teeth so he frequently chews on everything he can get this mouth on.
Truman Zanotto = French Angora (Chestnut) I specifically wanted a fuzzy breed that was larger than the Mini-lop and given the fact that French Lops helped make Mini-Lops I think the French Angora fits Truman Zanotto.
Hollis Forsythe = Thrianta (standard) With the fact that she's running the Psychonauts HQ in Psychonauts 2, I think the latest breed to enter ARBA standards that growing in popularity fits Agent Forsythe. They've got big weights on them and big things to live up to.
Gristol Malik = American Crested Cavy (golden brown) A great showing of the fact that yes, ARBA does cavy shows, but many people tend to think that it's not the case. I think that Gristol as a cavy that goes "wheek wheek wheek" fits his personality of being whiny. (BUT I LOVE GUINEA PIGS, BELIEVE ME)
Donatella "Dona" Aquato = Lionhead (Blue Otter) I think that Dona would be one rabbit breed that is very showy however in later years after having many kids is supposed to not be as good. Female Lionheads tend to lose their "manes" but Donatella upkeeps hers. I think it shows the whole "beauty" before others that she shows off through MOST of PN2.
Dion Aquato = Belgian Hare (tan) I have been waiting to use this breed. A fragile but very lanky breed that I think would fit the Aquatos, Belgian Hares tend to be ones who you'd think would run but don't. Showing a contrast to him with his brother.
Frazie Aquato = English Spot (Gold) I think that Frazie, similar to her mom, would be some pretty nice color that isn't too common as well as be an active running breed similar to the rest of her family (unlike Raz who... had to be a mini rex cause that's a generic protagonist rabbit and I needed a started point)
Mirtala Aquato = Tan (chocolate) Similar to the youthful Tan's I think that Mirtala has enough energy to be this breed of rabbit and enjoy running around.
Queepie Aquato = Checkered Giant (blue) Known for his strength and... not outwardly mean to his brother, I think the checkered giant is the best running breed that suits Queepie, even though they're a lot meaner than he is to his brother.
Marona Lucrecia "Lucy" Aquato = Himilayan (blue) I've met plenty of nice and mean Himilayan rabbits and I think their unique bodytype would be one that could easily be excused as a californian but... nope she's a cylander. She tricked ya.
Otto Mentallis = Argent Brun Another newer breed and this one looks a little older. I'm probably going to have it so that way a lot of the Psychic Seven just look OLD. Anyways I'm a big fan of the idea that Otto is also Grulovian given the fact that the confirmed full blood Grulovian characters (Lucy, Gristol, Rokel, and Theodore) all have the same chin as he does so I think a breed that was at first imported to the states fits right in with that headcanon.
Compton Boole = Dutch (tortoise) I think that Compton is a very shy rabbit breed and Dutch tend to either swing from very very gentle to DON'T TAKE ME OUT OF THE CAGE. I think it fits Compton very well. Plus the fact that Compton is so afraid of how people look at him and how much Dutch are judged based on their markings makes sense to me.
Helmut Fullbear = Giant Angora (standard) Luxurious. Sweet. Kind. Needs a lot of time. I think that the Giant Angora fits Helmut very well, as most rabbits with the Giant on their name are very gentle (except for Chinchilla and Checkered). Plus he has a luxurious beard like most of the Zanottos (he married into the family).
Bob Zanotto = American Fuzzy Lop (lilac) These things... can be mean. But they are also fuzzy. So I think that a Giant Angora + American Fuzzy Lop combo works. Plus the fact of his small size fits in with the fact he is shorter than most psychics AND he could probably garden with more meticulous planning.
Cassie O'Peia = Silver (brown) As one of the oldest breeds and a big following, I think that it really fits Cassie, even if there are not a lot of rabbits that are able to be thought of with her story. I think that I'd have to go more off of "vibes"
Adam Joseph-Gette = Silver Marten (black) Silver Marten's are a newer breed but honestly
Sam Boole = Polish (BEW)
Gisu Neruman = Holland Lop (Opal)
Lizzie Natividad = Harlequin (Magpie (Blue)) Vibes mostly, but I think the specific standards that harlequins can't live up to usually
Morris Martinez = Cinnamon (Standard) Mostly vibes.
Norma Natividad = Britannia Petit (Sable) Mean little fuckers. They'd hate each other <3.
Boyd Cooper = Californian (Black)
Gloria von Gouten = Rex (Amber)
Fred Bonaparte = Champaign d'Argent
Edgar Teglee = Checkered Giant (Black)
Crispin Whytehead = Silver Fox (Blue)
James Theodore "J.T." Hoofburger = He's not actually a rabbit he's an American Wild Hare
Franke Athens = Satin (Copper)
Nils Lutefisk = That one rabbit that you try to bond with and you think it's really sweet when it starts chinning you and you pet it and then you realize it's wanting to breed.
Mikhail Bulgakov = Himilayan (Black) Fun fact: Himilayans are also called "The Russian Rabbit."
Elka Doom = Blanc de Hotot
Clem Foote = Dwarf Papillon
Elton Fir = Lilac
Bobby Zilch = Netherland Dwarf Netherland Dwarves are mean and all of them are mean no matter what a breeder might tell you. If they're not mean it's because you're their person.
Dogen Boole = Havana
Chloe Barge = Abyssinian Cavy
Benny Fidelo = Jersey Wooly
Phoebe Love = Checkered Giant
Quentin Hedgemouse = Holland Lop (broken tortoiseshell) The most popular starting rabbit I've
Milka Phage = The one rabbit who keeps pretending it's dead and when you go to grab it, it attacks you.
Crystal Flowers Snagrash = Florida White
Kitty Bubai = Harlequin (Japanese (Black))
Vernon Tripe = Mini Satin
Maloof Canola = Netherland Dwarf Also angry and very small and picked on.
Melvin "Chops" Sweetwind = French Angora

(For the New Years thread.) *Sees Jin withdrawing his hands and rubbing the back of his neck. Smiles then speaks in a reassuring way.* Oh! It is okay if you would like to eat the 鏡餅 (English translation: kagami mochi) at a later time. I think these Thrianta bunnies are eager to be petted. *Looks at the Thrianta bunnies reaching out their paws to him in an eager way.* (Luna) 🐰
& Jin's eager as well. Since after he nodded once at Luna, he's quick to return to petting the small, irresistibly adorable critters. ❝ Look at them, these bunnies need affection right now. My stomach can wait for food. ❞

List of the Top 10 Rabbits Kids Can Have
Children develop rapidly, and before you know it, they are clamouring for a pet, leaving you to question whether they are mature enough to take care of one. If you can't commit to a dog or cat, or can't find any in your region, then a rabbit can be a good first pet for your child. Some species of rabbit make wonderful companions for young kids. These rabbits are kind, active, and social; they make wonderful pets for kids!
Himalayan Rabbit
Himalayan rabbits are social and active pets. They are gentle with youngsters and won't peck at them. Your children will love spending time with their new pet because of the eagerness with which they approach toys and other children. The Himalayan rabbit weighs around 4.5 pounds on average and has a huge dark patch on its nose in addition to its black ears, socks, and tail.
Chinchilla Rabbit
These cute little bunnies are a perfect emulation of a Chinchilla, thus their name. Children will love having one of these rabbits as a pet since it is so docile, kind, and curious. These bunnies are quite affectionate, which is fantastic since their soft fur is impossible to resist stroking. This breed is between 5 and 7 pounds in size and does well in a variety of environments.
Thrianta Rabbit
Those with ginger in their blood are the best. The brilliant red coats of Thrianta rabbits aren't the only thing that make them popular; these animals are also kind and great with youngsters. They weigh between 4 and 6 pounds on average, making them manageable for young children to carry about and cuddle. Through skillful toy play or loving cuddles and caresses, they will bond with their family in ways that last a lifetime.
Mini-Lop Rabbit
Mini Lop rabbits, with their floppy ears and cuddly look, are a popular choice as pets and toys for young children. These fluffy bunnies can spend all day being cuddled by a young person. These kind but sassy and active rabbits will keep your kids amused for hours. Mini Lop rabbits are about the size of a standard house rabbit.
Holland Lop Rabbit
The large, floppy ears of a Dutch Lop rabbit add to the cuteness of this small rabbit breed. They're gentle, kind, and great with youngsters. They're going to have a great time snuggling! They will come around if you show them love and tolerance. Holland Lop rabbits are small in size, weighing just four to six pounds, and are quite fragile.
French Lop Rabbit
Massive French Lop rabbits may weigh anywhere from 10 to 15 pounds; they have floppy ears and are quite docile. If you have a lot of space and like bigger rabbit breeds, or if you're worried that your young child would hurt a little bunny if left alone, then this is the right solution for you. They are great pets for any size home, provided they have enough space to roam. Rabbits that are bred to be the Holland Lop
Lionhead Rabbit
Cute and uncommon, lionhead rabbits get their name from their furry manes, which resemble those of lions. Children love them for their sweetness and kind nature (and adults, too). Affectionate, lively, and full of energy, they will enjoy spending time with your children. Keep in mind that at 2.5 to 3.5 pounds, this dwarf breed is on the small side and fragile.
Havana Rabbit
Havana rabbits are happy and active pets that can keep up with even the most active kids. Your Havana rabbit, like your children, will be full of energy and eager to explore their environment, play with toys, and get into all sorts of trouble. Because of their kind nature and eagerness to snuggle, they are a favourite of children as pets. On average, they weigh between 4.5 and 6.5 pounds.
Harlequin Rabbit
Harlequin rabbits are not only stunning, but also quite popular as pets because of their outgoing and humorous natures. They are the perfect size for playing with children and have a positive, upbeat attitude. They are very affectionate and like being petted and cuddled. They are perceptive and amenable to training, making them an ideal "project" for your kid.
Californian Rabbit
The 8-10.5 pound Californian rabbit is a cuddly, lovable companion that youngsters will adore. These sweet giant rabbits want to interact with their owners when they are socialised. These rabbits need a big cage and a bunny-safe area to go about in, so they may not be a good choice if you live in an apartment.
Rabbits that are good with kids?
Bunnies are adorable, active, and brilliant pets. They bond closely with their owners and like spending time with their young owners, making them ideal pets. There are several important factors to think about before getting a rabbit for your kid. Your child, first and foremost, need rabbit-handling instruction. Injuries from children picking up rabbits are a real possibility.
To avoid the awful circumstances that commonly occur when children are not educated about proper handling, parents should teach their children how to play and cuddle with a pet rabbit before allowing them to spend time with it unaccompanied.
Rabbits are predatory animals and, as such, may be fearful of being handled and may wriggle out from a child's grasp, inflicting injury and stress. Younger kids are better off playing on the floor with bunnies. Don't let kids hold the bunnies, but have them cuddle and play with them nevertheless. Without worrying about causing any harm to their rabbit, they may bond with it and spend valuable time together.
When children get a rabbit, they often have preconceived notions that it will behave like a toy or that it would be as cute and cuddly as a dog. For this reason, it is essential to debunk the myth that rabbits make good, low-cost pets for children. Don't get one unless you're prepared to give it the time and attention it deserves (and unless you're confident your kid will treat it with respect).
Are Pet Rabbits Too Much Responsibility for a Young Child? While rabbits are easier to care for than dogs, they still have a lot of requirements that may be too much for some younger children and families. Although they have delicate stomachs and GI stasis, they nonetheless eat moderate quantities of timothy or grass hay, green vegetables, and pellets. This means that the rabbit's digestive tract stops working, which might result in death in as little as a day if the rabbit does not get enough fibre and exercise.
The next step is interplanetary travel. Caging rabbits is inhumane and cruel. It's harsh and bad for your health. Larger rabbits have more space requirements for exercise and exploration. Most pet owners use large dog crates for indoor play, but if you have rabbits, you'll need to "rabbit-proof" your house to protect your wiring, baseboards, and furniture legs.
Even though rabbits do their own grooming, they still need to be brushed many times a week. Bunnies may develop digestive difficulties and other health concerns from eating too much hair, but regular brushing can help prevent this. However, your kid can use this opportunity to earn money instead of spending time with the family pet. Give them the lowdown on how to take care of their furry buddy, including why a daily brushing is a must.
Even while rabbits are hardy pets, they nevertheless need to see the vet very often because of their susceptibility to illness. A veterinarian familiar with rabbits is necessary for routine checkups and unexpected emergencies including eye and ear infections, fleas, mites, malocclusion, and gastrointestinal stasis. At 6 months of age, rabbits benefit emotionally and physically from being spayed or neutered. Getting them fixed reduces their risk of developing cancer of the uterus or testicles and stops territorial behaviour (which comes with urine marking). Rabbits that have been spayed or neutered make healthier pets for children and are less prone to get serious diseases.
A pet rabbit, like any other pet, is a big commitment with many responsibilities. If you think your kid is mature enough to handle the responsibility, you may give them a rabbit to love and care for for the next five to twelve years.

The Thrianta rabbit breed got its start in Holland, where it was developed by a breeder named H. Andreae, who wished to create a breed in honor of the royal House of Orange. He bred a variety of rabbits (such as Havanas and Tortoise Papillon) to create this new breed of rabbit and named it after where he lived, Thrianta. This breed was recognized by the Dutch in May of 1940, just before World War II.
Unfortunately, most of the Thrianta Rabbits were used as a meat source during the war and it was almost wiped out completely. The few Thriantas that did survive were bred with German rabbits, and this new breed of Thriantas were brought over to America circa 1996. The breed was recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) in 2005 and the breed continues to grow in popularity.
The Thrianta is a breed of domestic rabbit that is brilliant red in color, with fawn under its paws and tail. Originating in the Netherlands, the Thrianta was further developed in Germany before being exported to the United Kingdom in the early 1980s. During the 1990s, the breed arrived in the United States from both the Netherlands and England. The Thrianta breed is recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) and by the British Rabbit Council (BRC). The Thrianta breed is rare in Australia with only a few active breeders.
The Thrianta has a coat of scarlet orange, similar to the color of an Irish Setter. The fur is soft, dense and medium in length. According to ARBA, Thriantas are supposed to pose short and compact, with straight ears that are supposed to be red all around. The body is to be short, stocky, barrel shaped and in all areas well rounded. The legs are to be short and strong. The ideal senior weight for this compact breed is 5 to 6 pounds.
