WHERE: State Fair WHO: Olivia Xylander (@mercurysunstar)
"I need to get a better resting bitch face," Ward grumbled as he took a seat across from Olivia at a picnic table. "Literally had 6 different people ask me if I could take a picture for them, barely got any good shots," he complained as he went through his camera. "First one didn't speak English so felt bad saying no, but after that it's like what the hell. I don't work here."

WHERE: Center of Dallas WHO: Olivia ( @magicalmanifesto)
Ward was crouched taking a photo of a pigeon, he'd gotten around to getting a new camera and was testing out different settings. Feeling someone come up behind him, he snapped the shot before glancing up. "Charm works, still kind of freaks me out that if it breaks I just go poof, but eh," he said standing up. "Still woulda been nice to know about em early on," he said giving her a mock glare, "Think I finally found a new apartment at least."

This is the first drabble i've written for Collette, my RP character. I'm exploring her backstory. Poor woman found out what life was like once you're done being a Chosen One.
A fading scream roused her from her slumber, her hand slipping under her pillow before she even registered she was reaching for her knife.
Only there was no knife. No holster. The pillow felt wrong, too, as did the bed. Too soft. Nothing was soft in her life. Not anymore.
Opening her eyes confirmed the worst. This wasn’t her home, though the visual assault of pink and frills and lace looked familiar.
It was from an old memory, she realised. One from Before.
She must have stepped into another Arachnae trap. A silly mistake, given her skill, but an understandable one, given she was—
She was—
What had she been doing before waking up in her childhood room?
The Arachnae must be eating her. It was the only explanation.
She needed to find a way out of her hallucination before she was consumed completely. She jumped out of the bed and—
And felt wrong.
Too light, too short, too weak, and a glance at her hands saw her scream for the first time in a decade. Her warding tattoos and battle scars gone, replaced with the unblemished skin of youth. She was pushing forty, and this was the body of a child.
The Arachnae must be a strong one if it could affect her perception of herself.
Trying to ignore the overall feeling of wrongness she began to search her room, hunting for the thread that would release her from the web she was trapped in. It would be here. She’d found one before, she could do so again. And then she’d be her real age in her real body with access to her real sword, and then she could make this nightmare a distant memory once again.
Her…alarm clock, yes… gave her pause, its neon green numbers almost painful to observe. Behind it was a row of pageant trophies, all polished until they gleamed. But the sight of them brought no joy. All second place and participation trophies, if her memory served her right, put on display by her mother as a reminder to be better.
It was good this was only a hallucination. Being taken to Faerie by the fae had been a wish come true. She wanted to die in Faerie, eventually. Better that than return earthside.
Except…
She peered closer at the trophies. Her English was rusty, but the engraved letters were clear as day. ‘Collette Pickering, Collette Pickering, Collette Pickering’…
Her breath hitching in her chest didn’t stop her from sweeping them all to the floor. Her name shouldn’t be here! She’d kept it secret, none of the fae should have been able to access it like this, if they could rip that from her mind then they could get anything. Stars, she needed to escape and soon, and defeat the Arachnae before it could share her ultimate secret.
Just as she started searching through the book-free bookcase, the bedroom door slammed open.
“Back, harpy!” She shouted as the monster from her nightmares approached.
The monster stopped. “Really, Collette?” It snapped. “Is that really how you address your mother?”
Collette blinked. That was a rude way to talk to her, what had she been thinking—no!
Memories from Before were trying to replace the ones from faerie. She fought them back into the past, trying to focus on what was going on.
“I know you are disappointed you can’t go to Olivia’s birthday,” her mother continued, and it was her mother, despite how many times she’d dreamed of her as a monster, “but this is no way to behave. You must understand that the Rose Bay pageant is far too important for us to miss. Really, I thought better of you.”
She fought the urge to apologise.
Her mother crossed her arms. “Sulk all you want, but I expect you downstairs in five minutes. You need to do a session on the stairmaster before school. And clean up this mess.” With that, her mother left, slamming the door behind her.
That’s right, Collette had school. Not that she wanted to go; Olivia had frozen her out of the group for saying no to her party, and—
You do not have school!
School had been another lifetime ago, the one from Before. But she wasn’t an Earthside child anymore. She was an old Chosen warrior. Their Dragon.
Think, Odette, think!
Even in her thoughts she stuck with her Chosen name, not risking the fae hearing her thoughts, though apparently it didn’t matter anymore. Her true name was out there, it was being used, and the implication of that left her shaking. This wasn’t Arachnae, not unless they had learned to manifest dynamic beings instead of static places. This was something else.
And she prayed to the dirt, that this wasn’t the something else she feared.
She needed to remember what she’d been doing prior to this. Then she could escape and get back to hunting monsters.
Like the Low Knight, who’d nearly taken her eye when she confronted him for torching a village.
Her hand went to her face. No scar marred her cheek now, though she had memories of feeling it healed under her fingers; the scar jagged and unsightly and the thing that had finally put an end to all the nicknames about her looks. But it had happened, and it had healed, and she could remember her satisfaction of running her sword though his eyeball when they next crossed paths.
So whatever had happened had been after that then.
She sat down on the bed, dropping her head into her hands and forced herself to think.
A group of fae had requested an audience with the Dragon.
Not Pretty Dragon, or Blood Honey, or any of the stupid monikers they’d given her. Just ‘the dragon’, which meant it happened after the face scar incident. They’d wanted her to go the the Hazed Wildwoods and confront the Rogue King, though what they’d meant by ‘confront’, they’d never explained. Just that she’d know what to do once she was there.
She’d taken the job, despite her instincts screaming otherwise. Saying no to high fae was more dangerous than any idiotic quest they sent her own. They were the ones with the power to banish her home.
And she did what they asked. Getting to the Hazed Wildwoods was a breeze, and when she reached the Rogue King’s castle, he seemed…not like he was waiting for her, which she’d expected. Rather, surprised to see her there. He seemed surprised that he was there, too.
And then he yelled something that could have been help, could have been a battle cry, before turning into a beast and running away.
The whole quest had been confusing. The trip too easy, the ‘you’ll know what to do’ moment never coming. She’d done exactly as ordered, but it felt like it had gone wrong.
When she’d returned to the Celestial Palace, the fae who sent her on the quest refused to believe her account. The Rogue King wouldn’t just run away, he would have attacked, so clearly she’d done something wrong.
She’d messed up.
And despite her protests and her pleas, they decided to punish her by—
She lifted her head from her hands, a scream building in her lungs. The bastards had sent her home.

Olivia Roberts-Wayne. Orphaned at the age of six. Has some memories of her parents but not very clear ones. Was in a foster home when at around age 11/12 she started getting ill and prone to extreme fatigue and other ailments; after some months of exams and bloodwork it was discovered that she had MacGregor’s disease. While the treatment was still in development at Wayne Industries, after Olivia’s case worsened and she became hospital bound, an executive decision was made by the state to allow the experimental treatment. In the months that followed, she slowly regained her health and it appeared / appears that the treatment was / is a success. During those intervening months, she was visited by Mr. Lucius Fox and, eventually, by Bruce Wayne himself whom had, unbeknownst to Olivia, been paying for her treatment and care since the nature of her illness was originally discovered. Eventually Bruce offered to adopt Olivia and while she hesitated, only because she did not want to become a burden to anyone, she did agree and is now the (latest) ward of Bruce Wayne.
More to come.
(Also to note she’s like 13ish or so in current threads / plots)

The fall solstice is only days from breaking over the Crimson City. Heat is a rare commodity to the residents of Chicago, so they part with it bitterly every year at the annual End-of-Summer Festival. The season goes out with a bang and the rumble of food trucks every summer as patrons waltz their way down the Chicago art walk, indulge in all things saucy and boozy at the Chicago Bourbon and BBQ Festival, get in touch with nature at the Chicago craft beer tasting at the zoo, and shop at the Chicago flea market littered with street merchants from all over the country. Of course, the real selling point every year is the annual Chicago bar crawl, which sweeps guests through Cook County’s best bars, like The Pint, Rousseau’s, Cataleya, Wolves and Skyfall Bar. To attract more customers, each bar, restaurant, and club—even what goes on behind—will be steeply discounted for the ultimate occasion.
And if you’re a little territorial, don’t sweat it—no metal detectors will be necessary at the End-of-Summer Festival. Who would want to ruin all this fun, anyway ?!
Part I of the End-of-Summer Festival begins at 7:15 P.M. CST and will conclude on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 at 7 P.M. CST. You may continue your non-event threads through the event, however we ask you don’t post any starters unless they pertain to the event
Under the cut are plot slots you may claim for this event; just send your preferred slot to the main. Plots slots are a first come, first serve basis.
We’re going to allow each person to choose two plot slots for two characters max .If there are any leftovers, we’ll let members know when they can sign up for thirds. Please try to pick one pertaining to your character and plot with those that take the other spots.
You’ll notice that some of these plots are public, so feel free to have your character react to them/ notice them even if they aren’t happening directly to your character. However, if something feels like it happened privately to another character, please check in with their Mun to see if it’s okay for your character to know.
To be clear: these are not the only things that happen to your character during this plot drop and you are more than welcome to cook up your own trouble.

[ KELLEN WASHINGTON ] tries to run away, but not before [ CHARACTER X2 ] splashes their back with a brown paint. Did they shit themselves??
36. [ CHARACTER Z2 ] ducks out of the way from a flying object that crashes the window of a closed shop. The alarms start to blare, and before [ CHARACTER Z2 ] can leave the scene they see [ CHARACTER A3 ] about to launch something else.

Kill For You- Be Careful What You Wish For chapter 8
Pairing: Drake x MC; Liam x MC
Word count: 1,650
Warnings: mental illness, hospital setting, mental break, Evil Liam, 🍋
Summary: Rebecca makes some changes. Bastien gets closer to the truth.
Song inspiration: Kill for You by Skylar Grey featuring Eminem
A/N: A huge thank you to @sirbeepsalot for all of her help and advice and being an ever patient sounding board. (MoE thanks DoE as well.) I lost control of Rebecca two chapters ago and have no idea what she’s doing at this point. This may not end the way you want it to.
Series warnings: Evil Liam, dark!fic, deceit, manipulation, dub con, possible NSFW content, possible character death. This is taking the Liam from TRH to the extreme, he is not the Liam we know and love. By clicking read more you acknowledge you are at least 18 years of age.
Let me know if you want to be added or removed from the taglist.
Disclaimer: I don’t own any of the characters, I’m simply borrowing from PB for a bit.
Rebecca breezed through the hospital, an air of dignity surrounding her, a cloud of flowery perfume following her. It’d been two and a half weeks since Drake had been admitted, this was the first time she would be seeing him since. She reasoned that she couldn’t bear to see him like that, manic and spouting crazy accusations, in reality she felt happier without him. She found a bit of bliss and she didn’t want to dampen it with visiting him. Today she needed to see him, she needed to speak with him. She knew maybe she went about this the wrong way, and it would only make things worse for him but she needed to be free. She couldn’t remain shackled to the man he’d become. I should have seen it coming. He constantly discounted himself. Were those warning signs? Every breathless ‘I can’t believe I got so lucky’ now seemed like a warning she’d overlooked.
She sailed passed the nurses desk in the ward, blissfully ignoring their surprised cries. She knew exactly where she was headed and intended to make this as quick as possible. She stopped at the doorway. Quick and painless. He will see it’s for the best in time. She knocked as she entered the room, plume of flowery scent wafting around her.
Drake turned, smile spreading as his eyes fell on Rebecca. He stood, crossing the room pulling her into an embrace. “I missed you.”
Rebecca stood stiffly. Don’t lead him on. “We need to talk.”
Drake released her, stunned expression on his face. Why is she acting so distant?
“You changed Drake, this isn’t what I signed up for.” She shook her head. “I should have seen the signs but I was so caught up in the whirlwind that I missed them. I should have known when you kept telling me I was too good for you that you would eventually break like this but I was blind.”
His stomach dropped. She can’t mean... “What are you saying?”
“I want a divorce.”
A divorce?! No! I need you! “You can’t. I won’t sign.”
Rebecca laughed, the harsh sound bouncing off the walls making Drake cringe, gone was the joyous laugh that lilted like bells. “Since you’re on an indefinite hold I don’t need you to sign. Liam will be able to put through the annulment, I just wanted to let you know.” She spun, a waft of perfume hitting him in the face, as she walked out of the room and his life.
Why is she wearing so much perfume? “No!” He shouted as he banged against the closed door. “You can’t leave me!” Liam, it has to be Liam she wouldn’t just leave me. Omg I was right she was cheating! “How could you do this to me?!” He walked to his chair kicking it. “This can't be happening! You can’t leave me!”
Nurses and orderlies flooded into the room. The orderlies grabbed him restraining him. He thrashed and fought screaming. “Who has the haldol?”
“Let me go! She can’t leave me!” He continued to thrash and fight.
“Somebody restrain him!” They returned him to his bed, placing his hands and ankles in soft cuffs to restrain him.
A prick in his arm, his mind slowly silenced. She can’t leave me. Who am I without her? His head fell to the side. What’s the point anymore?
The nurse shook her head as she left. “He was having such a good day too.”
*
Rebecca looked up at the monument looming above them. “I still can’t believe we’re back here.” She’d been excited when Liam mentioned having a surprise planned for her, but this was the farthest thing from her mind.
“There isn’t another place in the world that I’d rather do this.”
“Do what?” She turned, confused by his choice of words. Her hand flew to her mouth, her jaw dropping to the ground as she saw Liam kneeling before her, beautiful diamond ring glittering in the moonlight.
“Rebecca Allen, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” He gazed up with her, his chocolate brown eyes filled with love and adoration.
“Yes. A million times yes!” Her sapphire eyes sparkled and blonde hair shone like spun gold in the moonlight.
I knew you still loved me. He jumped to his feet pulling her to him. “I love you Rebecca.” He leaned down claiming her mouth in a heated kiss. Just one more step till our happily ever after. No one can stop me now.
*
Bastien sat back in his chair, his fingers steepled in front of his face. It doesn’t make sense, what am I missing? All tests came back clean, but the nagging feeling that something more was going on just wouldn’t leave. It’s almost like he’s getting worse. They tried medicating him but he still wasn’t showing any signs of improvement. When he visited that afternoon Drake had been physically restrained to the bed, but the light had completely gone out in his eyes. It was like he completely gave up. At first he thought maybe it was the dose until he spoke with the staff. An outburst and then he retreated. Why isn’t he getting better?
He leaned forward flipping through paperwork. He had started noting all of Drake’s behaviors and outburst hoping to find a trend, see if anything would point him in the correct direction. He had nothing much more to do, Liam scaling back heavily on his duties citing that he had enough to worry about with Drake and his own injuries made it harder for him to perform his duties. Why does he insist I can’t do my job?
He’d also noted that Liam had been spending less time at the palace. He couldn’t explain it but it felt like maybe Liam was the answer to all of his questions. Why is he spending less time at the palace now? The words from his conversation with Olivia rang through his head. If you’re correct and Liam is behind it I’d be careful. He is his father’s son after all. If he is doing what you say he is, he won’t let anyone stop him, even you. It felt like he was both so close to figuring out the cause and a million miles away from the truth simultaneously.
I’m not giving up. Not until I find out the truth.
*
“I’m sorry we couldn’t stay longer.” Liam squeezed her hand, his heart soaring high. She’s mine. She’s finally mine.
She laid her head on his shoulder. “It was perfect.” She aimlessly twisted her ring. A strange feeling of completeness finally washing over her. I really did choose the wrong man. “How are we going to explain this to the press?”
“I have a plan.” He pulled her to his lap, his hand sliding up her thigh. “For now I have other things on my mind.”
“Such as?” She asked biting her lip seductively.
“Making good use of our private jet.” He wound his hand in her hair pulling her down for a kiss.
She hummed her agreement against his lips, her hands threading through his silky onyx locks as she kissed him deeper. She shifted closer, closing the space between their bodies. She couldn’t get enough of his touch, his taste, he made her feel like she was floating even when she was standing completely still. How did I ever turn him down? She finally felt complete, like a piece of her soul she hadn’t realized was missing had finally been returned. She had spent the last few weeks both questioning why she turned him down to begin with and making up for lost time with him.
His other hand slipped higher up her thigh, pushing up her relatively short dress. He kissed down her jaw to her neck, kissing and sucking the delicate flesh making her gasp. He slid his hand between her legs, rubbing her through her lace panties.
“Liam.” His name slipped from her lips as a gasping moan. Her hands gripped his shoulders as she ground her core against his hand. Her head fell back as he slid her panties to the side, his fingers teasing her soaked slit. “Liam, please.” She mewled as his teeth grazed her neck.
Liam pulled back with a smile, his fingers circling her clit. “Whatever my queen wants.”
“I want you my king.”
He groaned, slipping his fingers from her center. She whined in protest at the loss. Her hands slid down his chest, she shifted back as she worked his hardened length free from its confines. Her thumb grazed his tip, spreading the bead of precum. She glided her hand up and down his velvety shaft. She locked eyes with his as she lifted her hips, lining him up with her entrance. His hands gripped her hips, guiding her down on his thick length. She let out a gasp as he filled her completely. She would never get over the feeling of completeness being intimate with him brought. She bit her lip as she began rocking her hips against his. He guided her up and down, her hands gripping the headrest as she rode him, his hips slamming into hers harder with each thrust. Rebecca gasped and moaned as she drew nearer. Her eyes rolled back as her body tensed, sparks of electricity flowing through her as she came letting out a silent scream. Liam’s head fell on her shoulder as he came with a groan as her walls pulsed and squeezed his length.
She fell forward, clinging to his chest as the aftershock dissipated. She looked up at him. “I love you.” She kissed his stubble lined jaw.
“I love you too my queen.” Soon enough there will be nothing left standing in our way. Just have to make sure I get rid of the obstacles and then we can rule in peace.
Feedback fuels me, please like, comment reblog or send an ask. Feel free to scream, I promise I can take it.

Citizens of New Eden,
I assure you, the complaints and concerns that you have been bringing to our attention are not going unheard. We understand that this is a sharp transition for all of us, none moreso than for the New Eden Police Department. Our officers and staff have been working night and day to maintain the safety of this city and we have been taking your feedback into account.
In response to the overcrowding issues at the correctional facilities around the city, we are implementing a new system that should hopefully alleviate such issues. In trying times such as these, we need all citizens to step up and help each other to ensure that our community is strong. Switches are already doing their part with the essential work they provide for the city’s infrastructure. Now, we ask that of our Dominant population to do so as well. Part of this includes the punishment mandate issued several days ago. By Dominants doing their part, this frees up government resources to invest into finding these terrorists so we all may go back to our lives.
As such, we have another large request to ask of our citizens. Any unclaimed submissives over the age of 18 will be assigned to a Dominant, with whom they will spend three days out of the week. We assure you that all claims and mock claims will be honored, so there will be no breaking of relationships in this mandate. During these three days, the Dominant will be responsible for administering the submissive’s weekly scene and maintenance punishment.
We understand that this is not an ideal solution, but we have ultimately found no other choice. We must humbly ask our citizens to help the government in this moment of history. The world’s eyes are on us. Let them see that we will not bow down to terrorism. We will not devolve into anarchy. We are New Eden, strong and proud. Let us show them what utopia really means.
Your Captain, Captain Charles Covington III
OOC: Welcome to our next shakeup! Below is a list of pairings that we’ve randomized for the purposes of this plot drop. This part of the drop will not affect Switches (which is fine because y’all just had some cake on Friday). We’ll be keeping an eye on these pairings to ensure things are kept fairly equitable, and to shift things accordingly with new characters. If you have an OOC issue with your pairing, please come directly to us and we’ll do our best to make things work. IC issues will not be catered to. The police have better things to do than play matchmaker and maybe they also live for the drama.
The GList (im sorry i couldn’t help myself)
Addison Taylor - Alexander Babin
Ainsley Corcoran - Olivia Vance
Beckett Taylor - Max Carter
Branson Yeung - Fauna Frightman
Grey Ward - Alex Sinclair
Harper Sinclair - Kat Barton
Hermione Harper - Malia Fahey
Julian Wright - Bobbi Katz
Kale Mahoe - Daisy Hannigan
Lex Stovall - Amira Rouhani
Malachi Rush - Maggie Frightman
Marcus Reed - Mattie Taylor
Margaux Mulloy - Anna Rose / Emily Barton
Nava Zografos - Emmy Wright
Sean Matthews - Avery Ward
Sophia Barton - Cole Bratten

For the purposes of this plot drop, you absolutely do not have to write out a punishment/scene every week (though if you want to, that’s definitely allowed). We’d love to see threads, hc summary posts, and anything else you can think of. As always, our DMs are always open to any questions or concerns and feedback.

[TASK 138: SENEGAL]
In celebration of Senegalese Independence Day on April 4th, there’s a masterlist below compiled of over 190+ Senegalese faceclaims categorised by gender with their occupation and ethnicity denoted if there was a reliable source. If you want an extra challenge use random.org to pick a random number! Of course everything listed below are just suggestions and you can pick whichever character or whichever project you desire.
Any questions can be sent here and all tutorials have been linked below the cut for ease of access! REMEMBER to tag your resources with #TASKSWEEKLY and we will reblog them onto the main! This task can be tagged with whatever you want but if you want us to see it please be sure that our tag is the first five tags, @ mention us or send us a messaging linking us to your post!
THE TASK - scroll down for FC’s!
STEP 1: Decide on a FC you wish to create resources for! You can always do more than one but who are you starting with? There are links to masterlists you can use in order to find them and if you want help, just send us a message and we can pick one for you at random!
STEP 2: Pick what you want to create! You can obviously do more than one thing, but what do you want to start off with? Screencaps, RP icons, GIF packs, masterlists, PNG’s, fancasts, alternative FC’s - LITERALLY anything you desire!
STEP 3: Look back on tasks that we have created previously for tutorials on the thing you are creating unless you have whatever it is you are doing mastered - then of course feel free to just get on and do it. :)
STEP 4: Upload and tag with #TASKSWEEKLY! If you didn’t use your own screencaps/images make sure to credit where you got them from as we will not reblog packs which do not credit caps or original gifs from the original maker.
THINGS YOU CAN MAKE FOR THIS TASK - examples are linked!
Stumped for ideas? Maybe make a masterlist or graphic of your favourite faceclaims. A masterlist of names. Plot ideas or screencaps from a music video preformed by an artist. Masterlist of quotes and lyrics that can be used for starters, thread titles or tags. Guides on culture and customs.

Cracks in a Glass Heart
[Vibes]
She staggered her way home that night, exhaustion clinging so heavily to her very bones that she could hardly remain upright. Not a wink had she slept since the night she had looked into her lovers eyes and saw a demon staring back. She had barely slept before that - perhaps two or three hours a night, when Derelict could siphon away the nightmares. She would never ask Hide to do such a thing, give him such free access to her unguarded mind, and so she went without, for better or worse.
The last time she had let herself sleep unaided, she had sleep-walked her way out to the beach and nearly accepted the Faceless for a chance at rest, real rest, had it not been for Derelict. His absence gnawed at her, a gaping wound, a hole in her heart. She never got to tell him that she’d fallen in love with him. How could she ever tell him? How can she tell him now, when a monster is wearing his skin?
Enambris shoved the door of the Getaway open, slamming it firmly behind her and engaging the locks, wards flaring to life to conceal the house from scrying and prying eyes both. Quaking fingers struggled at the buckles and fasteners of her plate, tearing it off with such force that the leather straps snap, and the armor fell piece by clanking piece to the floor with no ceremony to speak of. She shucked the metal from her body and stumbled to the stairs, taking them three at a time and narrowly missing a nasty tumble. She stopped upon coming to the bottom landing, a pause to right herself, and slowly made her way to the door on the other side of the room, shoving it haphazardly open and finally making her way on unsteady legs to the four poster bed that stands beneath the windows in the far corner of the room. She was alone in the house.
Mentions: @derelict-noctis @the-faceless-ffxiv @charm-in-spades @ascalonffxiv @lukelxiv @mischiefs-mistress @valanthius-xiv
In silence she slowly approached the bed, reaching out with trembling fingers to take the blazer draped across the foot of the bed into her hands. Quietly she pressed it to her chest as the knowledge she bore, that she had the unhappy task of keeping locked away inside, slowly came to a rolling boil. The constellations of her irises turned inward, dark, a storm on a cosmic horizon as tears overflowed to drown her. The clock chimes. Midnight.
Olivia, Caelric, gone. They had walked along the edge of the precipice and now they were gone. She gave me up. She left me. He’s gone, he failed, he lied, he caved. Shoat had buried Derelict. Enambris knew she’d done it. Derelict gone, my life, my stars, my night, my raven is gone. Vielynne? How could she have hoped to protect her? Thinking aether could stop threads of fate -- how? She had failed Revarik oh no he was gone what was wrong with him? How could he come back and -- GODS how do I get Derelict back, I have to follow him into the dark--
Hope, in the deepest part of her heart, begins to break, the black ichor of dread slowly filling in the cracks. Piece by piece, it chips away at her. Whispers fill her ears, punishment for her failure to properly sleep. Too many words, too many screams. She crumpled to the floor, sobbing into Derelict’s jacket. Sleep claimed her, once or twice through the night, having somehow managed to drag her up onto the bed, and each time was worse than the last.
Hearts, they’re marked from inside, the strings don’t cut, the center cannot hold. Waking, her screams, a stitch-pattern heart suspended by criss-crossing threads, it thumps, thumps, thumps again. What had the Butcher said? Strings could not be cut, holes could not be filled, death could not be reversed--
Tik. Tok. Tik. Tok.
“Are you watching?” she asked the room. Whether she was conscious was difficult to tell, but she was certainly speaking to someone. The Faceless? The Herald? ...Her? “You’re watching me. Taking away from me, taking and taking and devouring and whispering and pulling, you take them...”
Tik.Tok.Tik.Tok.
“Give... them back... Just tell me what to do to... be with...”
TikTokTikTokTIKTOKTIKTOK—
Silence.
Blissful, quiet silence. The ticking stops. The whispers stop. The screams stop. She could hear it, something else on the wind. The sweetest voice, a familiar voice, a little sister whose eyes had once been blue.

Enambris woke again to the sounds of her own screams, choking on sobs. The clock chimed, the second bell of the morning. She wouldn’t be sleeping again. But... it’s over now, right? Who else could she lose?

Plot Drop #3 - The Kidnapping
One by one and in some cases two by two the following people begin to go missing from the ball in various different ways. The possessed vessel watched and waited for his window of opportunity to take at least one of each species. In some cases, should the apprehending of the others cause too much blood loss or them to be too badly hurt the possessed would have to go back for another.
The kidnapping order is as follows:
Michaela Beaumont
Genevieve Hart
Luna Sinclaire
Eliza Holmes
Celeste Wilton
Charlotte MacKnight
Reid Tenniel
Amber Donaldson
Olivia Caldwell
Vincent Riley
This group is taken deep into the woods to a cave, warded by a barrier spell that burns to the touch once they’ve been led in. The only person that can come and go is Keanu.
The night isn’t done as Keanu’s work hasn’t quite yet finished. He has to take a few more people, taking them in the opposite direction of the cave, harboring them in the woods in an abandoned barn often used on location shoots out in the woods. It has the very same wards as the cave
He grabbed the following people:
Chloe Samuels
Sloane Winters
Jackie Presley
JD Richards
In both groups, there were others that were taken as well NPCs sometimes they were taken, and they wouldn’t return. Other times it was only a matter of time before a chilling scream would echo through the woods.
None the wiser were those that were still attendance of the party, remaining in god and goddess form as the night went on.
(Note: While the kidnapping is happening you may still maintain threads from the ball if you would like. You may also do private threads with Keanu of being kidnapped. Your character’s level of injury and how they are kidnapped are completely up to you. Or if you’d like to headcanon the kidnapping and play out the aftermath, that is also your choice. You can also make open starters for the group of people that you are kidnapped with just be sure to specify if you’re with the Cave Group or the Barn group. More details on the kidnapped and the party groups will be coming soon! Keep a watch on the main!)

The Secrets That Lurk in The Last House on Needless Street
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article is sponsored by
Catriona Ward’s latest novel, The Last House on Needless Street, is the sort of book that defies easy description and categorization. Part horror story, part mystery thriller, and part tragedy, the book subverts a lot of expectations about what a genre story should be and do, unpacking a complex emotional narrative in the midst of a menacing tale of fear, uncertainty, and constantly escalating dread.
“I’m not sure where it sits,” Ward admits with a laugh during a lengthy conversation with Den of Geek. “It’s a bit un-shelvable.”
To be fair, it was probably always going to be difficult to know precisely how to classify a story that heavily features a very religious talking gay cat, and that’s before you get to the potential kidnappings and possible serial murder of it all.
“The cat is a litmus test, isn’t it?” Ward laughs. “If you get parts of the talking cat in the second chapter, you’re probably going to enjoy the book. If you don’t, you may not.”
Especially since The Last House on Needless Street isn’t the sort of horror story (or even quasi-horror story) that relies on gore or jump scares to terrify its readers. Instead, its darkness is primarily rooted in more mental frights: Unreliable narrators, oppressively narrow points of view, and an almost unbearable tension lace through even the most basic scenes. Readers are left unbalanced by sequences they don’t entirely understand and can’t completely trust, armed only with “partial and imperfect knowledge.”
“One of my great loves is the Gothic, the fragmented narrative. The reader plays detective the whole time trying to piece together what is reliable and what is not,” Ward says. “There are all these oppositions in place. I think that’s something that horror and the darker side of fiction do very naturally anyway. I felt that this was just perhaps pushing the envelope a little bit further.”
Ward refers to her previous novels as Gothic-style stories of “distressed girls wandering about on moors,” and says that part of her drive to write Needless Street came from an “urge to do something completely different” and to “write something as mad as I liked.”
It’s safe to say that she has achieved that goal.
In the most basic sense, The Last House on Needless Street follows the story of Ted, a lonely man who lives in a boarded up house (on Needless Street, naturally) with his 12 year old daughter, Lauren, and his cat, Olivia. Children have been going missing at a nearby lake for some time and a woman named Dee, whose sister disappeared there some years prior, has convinced herself that Ted had something to do with it.
Whether he did or not, as well as the mystery of what happened to the “Girl with Popsicle” who vanished back then, are just two of the story threads this ambitious narrative attempts to balance as it juggles three different perspectives—one of whom is the aforementioned cat— and asks readers to question what they believe to be true and why.
“First person narrators for me are a much more realistic way of presenting the world than an omniscient, Godlike creator. You don’t get to know everything about everyone. You just don’t,” Ward says. “Your perceptions change every instant and quite often no two people remember the same event the same way. To me, that unreliability is incredibly lifelike, but I think it’s unnerving to people. I think it’s unnerving to the reader because fiction is supposed to be more organized than that. I think what I wanted to do with this [story] was destabilize that a little bit.”
The book embraces many of the most familiar aspects of the horror genre, but it also counts on its readers to possess a shared understanding of its common tropes and signifiers, and uses those assumptions to subvert many of their preexisting expectations.
“That was a decision,” Ward says. “To play [not just ] with the expectations of horror… but also with the snap conclusions people might come to about certain kinds of behavior or mental health conditions [or socio-economic indicators].”
The book’s narrative counts on its readers to feel as though they know what’s happening, that they’ve already guessed the twists ahead of them. And, as the story progresses, certain moments reinforce those assumptions. We’re afraid of Ted, because context clues say we should be, because our own knowledge of the world has shown us it’s often right to be suspicious of loner men who live in shabby, boarded up houses at the end of the lane.
And according to Ward, that unease is absolutely something she counted on her audience feeling. Because, although Needless Street has “no real factual content in the plot at all,” there are “echoes” of a real-life tragedy built into its bones, the kind that could certainly encourage readers to draw specific conclusions about the things they’re watching unfold.
“There are some deliberate reverberations that I set up with Ted in the beginning,” Ward explains.“He’s called Ted, and he lives in Washington state, near a lake where there had been a disappearance. I’m fascinated by the lake. Fascinated is the wrong word—I’m terrified, and the event that has quite a power over me is the Lake Sammamish Murders committed by Ted Bundy.”
In July of 1974, Bundy abducted and murdered two different women—Janice Ott and Denise Naslund—over the course of an afternoon at Lake Sammamish State Park. Despite the fact that thousands of people were at the lake that day, he walked up to each woman while they were with friends and introduced himself using his real name. Wearing a cast on his arm, Bundy asked the women for help. Each one walked away with him and was never seen again. Their remains were found on a neighboring hillside two months later, in such a state of decay that the local forensics team were driven to test the feces of local animals to help identify them.
“This is something that has made its way into my psychology and my imagination,” Ward says. “It’s an echo [in this story] because it’s such a landmark in my landscape of fear.”
The worst kinds of monsters, after all, are those that we can find evidence for in the real world.
“This absolutely horrifies me because what kind of world do we live in where someone can walk up to a woman in a group of friends, introduce himself by his name, and take her away and kill her in broad daylight?” she continues. “Twice in the same day. What kind of overpowering greed leads someone to need to do it twice in one day?”
For Ward, part of writing Needless Street necessarily involved processing “heartbreaking and often quite upsetting” things.
“It would be a bad book if I wasn’t afraid of it,” she says, explaining that there’s actually an important emotional element involved in telling and reading stories about our fears, of both the real and the fictional variety.
“I think horror doesn’t get enough credit as well for its redemptive qualities,” Ward continues. “The only reason I can write this stuff is because I’m afraid of it. And [there’s] actually a huge quality of empathy [involved] because what you’re saying to the reader is, ‘Here are my vulnerabilities. Here is what I’m afraid of. Are you afraid of it too?’ Then you’re forming this bond where you travel through the fear together.”
But, then again, by the time they reach the final page of Needless Street, readers’ ideas of what constitutes a horror story—and where precisely Ward’s book falls within the genre—may have changed. (And the author herself is well aware of that fact.)
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
“It’s a very strange genre, horror. Again, I don’t even know if this book is horror,” Ward admits ruefully. “This book is wearing the disguise of horror. I hope it’s [really] about survival and hope as much as it is about suffering. I thought that was really important to make sure that [those things] come out, [that[ it has the light shining through the dark branches as it were.”
