"Get off!" Jane tried to move away from his grip, her words spoken through sobs. She was full on crying now, hot tears ran down her face. It was embarrassing, but it could not be stopped. The blonde hid her face in his chest, hands now gripping the fabric of his shirt as if her life depended on it. The last months had been more taxing than she liked to admit. Perhaps this was finally where her resolve broke, weakened by months of exhaustion and abuse. Was it stupid to believe that Oscar cared enough to get her out? To perhaps marry her and take care of her? Love her?

Her sobs died down to small sniffles, yet tears still streamed down her face. She looked up at him now, eyes half-lid and red. "What happened? What did you do!?" Jane gave him one last slap on the arm. "What do you mean, you didn't have a choice?" She wanted answers, and she would get them. Her anger had died down, like a candle eating away it's last bit of wax and putting the fire out. Without thinking, she grabbed either side of his face and pressed a kiss upon his lips. It was a heavy kiss, filled with months of longing. One thing was clear, Jane missed him.

"Either you tell me what happened, or there's the door." The blonde tilted her head to the right as she spoke, but her hands rested on his chest.

oscar stood there, his body tense as jane’s hands collided with his chest. each shove was like a punch, not because of the physical force, but because of the pain in her eyes, the anger spilling out in every tear she had tried so hard to hold back. he didn’t move, didn’t try to stop her—he deserved this. He knew he did. the words she threw at him cut deeper than any shove or slap ever could, and each one sent a ripple of guilt through his already fractured heart. he could see the toll these months had taken on her—the exhaustion, the paranoia, the constant fear she had been living in. george had done that to her. oscar’s disappearance had done that to her. the chaos of the world they were caught up in had turned her life upside down, and now, here she was, standing in front of him, breaking under the weight of everything she had been forced to endure. "i know," oscar muttered quietly, his voice rough with regret as her sobs filled the room. "i know you’ve been through hell." he could feel her fists hitting him, not enough to hurt physically, but it was the emotional impact that made him stagger inside. her anger and her tears were more than he had prepared for, and seeing her like this—raw, vulnerable, devastated—made him feel like the lowest kind of man. "i never wanted this for you," oscar said softly, his voice barely a whisper now. "i never wanted to leave you like that. but i didn’t have a choice."

as jane's fists collided with oscar’s chest, her sobs breaking through the anger, oscar did the only thing he could think of. he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close despite the punches. her anger drove her to push him away, to hit him again, but he held firm. he didn’t tighten his grip, just enough to stop her from hurting herself—enough to hold her steady in the middle of the storm.

PLOTS OR MEMES : both, both are good. i work better off the fly, my brain's pretty scattered on the norm and the ideas that pop in my head are almost never fully fleshed out (at least they don't feel fleshed out very well), so plotting can get a little hard for me. but i do like both!! especially if we can get a good plot going. Fandoms: I mostly write BBC Sherlock, with a bit of Cabin Pressure and a smidge of Good Omens. I got my start in the Glee fandom (hence my username).

Number of fics: I currently have 233 works posted on AO3, but they’re not all traditional fics. Nearly 100 are Sherlockified song lyrics/filk in either The Ballads of John and Sherlock or my Johnlock Comes A-Wassailing series, and another 21 are nursery rhymes in my Mother Goose Ships Johnlock series.

1. Fic you spent the most time on: Although I haven’t updated in a year and a half, I’m still working on Sherlock of Green Gables, which I started posting over two years ago. Does that count?

2. Fic you spent the least time on: I really couldn’t say. A lot of the Johnlock songs I’ve written came to me in the shower, where I sang them over and over until I got out, and then just typed them up. Similarly, the nursery rhymes were pretty instantaneous. I suppose a proper ficlet that took almost no time to write was Cocky Locky (554 words) in which a bump on the head leaves Sherlock amusingly befuddled.

3. Longest Fic: My Johnlock and Mystrade version of Emma — Not Entirely Clueless — is 130,591 words, but Jane Austen helped me write most of them. The longest fic I’ve written on my own (i.e. not an adaptation) is As a White Knight on His Steed,which is 52,840 words of Glee RPF. My longest non-adaptation Sherlock work would be Divinest Sense and its sequel, Our Divinest Senses, which together come in at 38,750 words.  

4. Shortest Fic: It depends on what you count as a fic. My Johnlock haiku for the Wits on Tap 2017 poetry remix challenge, Intimate Imprint, is only 14 words. My shortest ficlet (not a poem, song, or nursery rhyme) is Unconventional, at 54 words.    

5. Most hits:  Figuring It Out Together — in which demisexual Sherlock and bisexual John explore all of the ways they can be intimate — has over 17,000 hits.

6. Most kudos: Again, Figuring It Out Together, with 785 kudos so far.

7. Most comment threads:  Nonsense and Insensibility — another Johnlock and Mystrade adaptation of Jane Austen — has 888 comments in 410 separate comment threads.

8. Fave Fic you wrote: This is a hard question, because it really depends on what I’m in the mood for. I’ve written everything from the fluffiest of fluff to the porniest of porn. Tami and Eric Taylor - the epitome of a healthy TV marriage

I just added to my ‘actors’/directors’ quotes on chemistry’ list and it’s Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton discussing their chemistry and also the marriage between Tami and Eric because they both were on the same page of portraying such a fundamentally solid, loving, committed relationship where no matter what, there was never a danger of Eric and Tami getting a divorce or having affairs or any of the usual drama we see on TV and the writers said that it was hard to write that and keep things interesting, it was a challenging feat for them (and I do understand that) but everyone was committed to creating this marriage where sure, there could be disagreements and sometimes very big disagreements but communication, support, devotion, encouragement, growth, stability, vulnerability, respect would keep them together (Fun fact: Connie and Kyle had such great chemistry both off and onscreen, the producers/directors were afraid they’d have an affair).

On Willow’s character arc from Inca Mummy Girl to Halloween

I’m fascinated by how Willow has actually had the least amount of character episodes as of Halloween (barring Giles) - counting Halloween as a character episode for everyone, given the way it splits attention pretty evenly to everybody’s issues. How does Willow become such an important character in the show, when right now she barely seems to feature?

As of now, these are the character episodes (counting character episodes as episodes that put a lead character at the epicentre of the plot, or episodes that take the viewpoint of a character other than Buffy) Cordelia: Out of Mind, Out of Sight; Reptile Boy; (Some Assembly Required) Xander: Teacher’s Pet; The Pack; (Prophecy Girl); Inca Mummy Girl Willow: I Robot, You Jane….?

At the early stages of the show, Xander is somewhat the deuteragonist, as the natural foil for Buffy. His character gives the show a way into the social world of high school as experienced by men, and his episodes are very much about these issues. Cordelia also functions as a foil for Buffy, and her episodes drag Buffy into the world of the rich, the popular, and the unfettered - they both function as access points into other social worlds Buffy and Willow might not be privy to on their own.

As a result, the one time a Willow episode was done, in which the character was used to give insight into the world of the nerds (I Robot, You Jane), that  fell apart because the Scoobies are already nerds, so any portrayal of other nerds easily risks falling into absurd caricature. Willow doesn’t offer a neat contrast to Buffy the way Xander or Cordelia do, and so she’s often left to be supporting player rather than at the forefront of story.

And yet, over the course of the past three episodes, the writers have figured out how to make Willow a dynamic character by giving her more to do in the B-plot, and by threading a systematic, intentional growth over the season instead of by giving her big character episodes. (To my memory, Halloween and Phases are the closest things to Willow-centric episodes this season, and even then it’s shared).

In Inca Mummy Girl, Willow decides to try moving on from Xander. This episode is also the first time Oz notices her before meeting her, while she’s in her Inuit costume (problematic!). This moment has been an oft-played card thus far - Willow looking in from the outside (happens in Welcome to the Hellmouth, Prophecy Girl, and When She Was Bad). This is the last time the show will hit this beat, and is a nice way of reminding the viewers of where she is.

In Reptile Boy, Willow helps Buffy sneaks around and then calls out Giles and Angel for treating Buffy badly - her first time snapping at anyone on the show! Here, her moral code and sense of righteousness is blooming, and she is becoming more confident in her views.

In Halloween, this assertiveness is brought to the fore once more as she’s put in the position of taking charge and leading the group, while wearing a sexy ghost costume. She becomes a more adept leader and more comfortable in her own skin - though it’s important to note she does revert to her normal dress next episode! The experience in the costume does not magically change her, but is instead a way for her to realize that she can be multiple versions of herself, and arguably is what leads to her stronger experimentation with fashion over the next few seasons. (Not that Willow-style wasn’t already amazing). This is the last time Oz notices her before What’s My Line - her growth in the early season is complete, and she is about to take her next steps with her meeting Oz. The threading of Oz not only counterpoints her growth here, but is a great way of setting up her future growth seamlessly.

Arguably, this mini character arc and these small moments of character growth and development is what makes Buffy season 2 so damn good, and what makes Willow have the longevity to surpass Xander as deuteragonist by season 3. Even as Xander and Cordelia serve as good foils, being foils makes it difficult for the writers to push them in any one direction (and risk losing their storytelling capacity). They do grow and change, but they become nowhere near as dynamic as Willow does (until Cordelia leaves BtVS, where she has a stronger chance to exist outside of being a foil). Willow doesn’t serve a neat gateway or niche into other high school worlds, and so by necessity the writers have to give her more to do beyond just being a nerd. It is this choice that propels her into being one of the most well-written and developed characters in the Buffyverse.

i started a new thread, tumblr kept messing up when i tried to reblog the previous post again?? but we can keep it this way! if anybody else is reading, i hope they enjoy as well~

about glee, i think my favourite season is still s1! the idea for the show felt very fresh at that time and ‘don't stop believing’ always makes me feel nostalgic when i hear it on the radio. i also still have a soft spot for rachel/jesse st.james although that storyline was wild (omg when he crashed an egg on her head??? iconic)

yes, it is daiya no ace!! i'm still into it, even though the story is so long now, vol.1 of the manga had 400 chapters and vol.2 is at over 200 now omg... i also loved free! back in the day, it was one of the shows that got me into anime, i think? :D the more i get to know you, the more similar we seem, i'm also terrible at sports (actually you just mentioned swimming and volleyball, if you're good at any other i'm sorry!! haha) i really like playing voleyball but not with people who take it too seriously, i'm too bad at it to keep up. haikyuu manga has just ended last week, i'm still emotional about it!!! it kept the high quality over all these years, it has the most lovable characters. i hope you enjoy your rewatch! who are your favourites?

i don't really have any tv shows i'm into right now... currently i'm only keeping up with a few animes and exploring the world of chinese dramas. i've recently found out that swords, men with long hair and flowy clothes is an aesthetic i enjoy immensely!! my mind is completely consumed by this one chinese drama called the untamed, to the point of reading through its ao3 tag every night :D what are you watching these days?

oh, for me 'circe' is the one book that keeps staring at me in bookstores... your cover of wizard of oz is lovely! i always love b&w with red, i have a ton of postcards from london with this color palette :D i actually took a photo of my favourite covers, most of them are from this polish small publisher of japanese literature, i adore their minimalist covers. and jane austin, obviously :D and thanks to you i realized how dusty my bookshelf is, whoops...

i'm so excited you like 'slowly'!! i hope you get matched with some cool people. i had a few nice conversations but in the end i didn't find anyone i'd keep writing with for longer and i stopped using it some time ago. there were so many people who only replied shortly to my questions but did not start any new topics and i don’t know how to carry the whole conversation on my shoulders, it's tiring... also there was this one guy that was easy to talk to and he also told me he liked talking to me but then he didn't reply for months. suddenly he wrote to me out of the blue again, we exchanged a few letters and he stopped replying again. i'm still flustrated about it??? and it's been a few months since then ahaha. maybe i'll try it again sometime cause i still adore the concept behind the app. i hope you have better luck than me :D let me know how it goes! on the other hand there's also postcrossing, have you heard about it? you get an address of a random person in the world and send them a physical postcard. it's really fun too c: but it's a one time thing, when someone gets your postcard, they can reply through the website but that's all.

today was so hot here but probably it still wasn’t as bad as for you in spain. i hope you didn’t melt today! do you live anywhere close to the sea? oh, actually i just remembered i know spanish! i understand almost everything but i'm so bad at talking, i can never remember the words i want. i guess i’ve never had enough practice, i mostly learnt in class.

if emerald city hadn’t been written by COWARDS it would have made (found) family and origin stories its major theme, cut the langwidere/jack relationship in favor of focusing on the jane/jack relationship, inflated mombi’s role to emphasize the maternity of her relationship w tip, expanded glinda’s scenes to let us see her acting as guardian and caretaker both of baby witches (essentially a stand in for mother south!) and of regular orphans, made the anna/frank relationship PATERNAL as a foreshadowing of an expanded PATERNAL interest in dorothy, given us more flashbacks to dorothy as an infant in the munja’kin village so that we could see her with ojo and nahara as adoptive family members (the fact that ojo and nahara probably knew jane and karen was COMPLETELY FUCKING DROPPED as a narrative thread btw, like it was implied and then never fucking talked about again), and made lucas an orphan glinda had raised from childhood rather than her ‘’’husband’’’’ so that the love triangle could fester and rot as it deserves and the story would more closely parallel dorothy’s choice of her adoptive family over staying in oz with the justification “they came first”
