Illyana still wasn't sure how either of them felt about the other being here, but as it stood, it was what it was. "I wanted to see how Flash is doing," was her excuse, but she also had a small bag with her. "I also brought some bleach stuff. Sorry it's not exactly the shade you wanted, but I'd be willing to help you touch up your roots if you wanted."

Erik was floating his metallic balls above his hand as he half listens to her "That's right so let's get the number one rule out of the way okay. When I tell you to do something... do it. No questions just do it." He then grabs the balls out of the air and puts them in his pocket. Erik looks at the other and shakes his head "You're going to be trouble, I can already tell but half the fun in life is the adventure so maybe it won't be s bad." He cocks an eyebrow at her then gestures around them "Where in this huge world are we going to go together first?"

She never was good with following rules. Illyana shrugged and held on to Lockheed, hugging him to her chest as she watched him warily. Almost every mutant, newly discovered or not, had heard of him. The saga between the one called Magneto and Professor X had reached legendary status, which was why she wondered why he was chosen to watch over her. “Anywhere we want as long as it’s away from this shithole,” she replied, deciding to trust him a little for now. She didn’t have a choice, anyway, plus she was more sympathetic to his beliefs about humans. Her past had ensured that she would dislike humans on principle. “I’m sure a mutant of your status has at least one place he’d want to go.”

"probably. no accounting for taste, though," unity responds with a shrug of their shoulders. "you remind me of my sister. i see her going through a similar thing. at the very least, this would be a good place to figure it out."

Illyana couldn't help the snort that left her nose, covering her face. "Well - he thinks I'm a loser, so I guess statistically speaking, someone would like me over him." Unity had a good point, letting out a soft hum. "You're probably not wrong.... but I've spent my entire life climbing ladders. I barely even know who I am without it all."

I keep thinking about the idea of a Cyclops and Magik book. I find their relationship so interesting, since most of the time when there's a split or something, Illyana pretty much immediately jumps to Scott's side in the conflict (like the Extermination Squad/post Phoenix Five team).

And then we get stuff like this from the pre-FoX X-Men run. Or Illyana joining Jean and Scott for Christmas shopping instead of, you know, their children. I just like the idea that Illyana looks up to this dude who is very, very complicated, but is still trying to do the right thing regardless as a leader and pseudo-father figure. Especially since she joined the New Mutants so young.

Maybe it could be something like a Summer/Grey family holiday/mission, where Scott is just like:

Scott: Time for a holiday. Just me, Jean, Emma, Rachel, Nathan and Illyana. Jean: Illyana? Scott: Of course? She's one of our daughters, Jean.

And it's just the rest of the family having to deal with Illyana and Scott being buddies the whole time, Rachel is down but Nathan is kinda weird about it. It'd be neat if it examined her relationship with Piotr as well, since their relationship being splintered somewhat (even tho they started to mend it in Vita Ayala's New Mutants run until that thread got dropped thanks guys I definitely didn't want to see Piotr and Yana happy of course not) might be why Illyana is attaching to Scott so much.

I just think it'd be fun, I guess.

Illyana frowned a little as they explained it, not entirely sure what to make of it. "Does - is that fun for you?" She knew sometimes people wrote novels or sheet music in their head to pass the time, but playing music was a new one. "It seems like it would be more satisfying to actually play a guitar - but I'm not really a creative." She nodded a little. "Well, family is family no matter how you cut it. So it's nice he's here." Was Hunter happy to see her? "He was happy to see his dog. I don't think he cares one way or the other if I'm here. I'm probably just like another authority figure to him that he's going to choose to ignore no matter what the cost is." She let out a sigh, shoulders slumping. She hated knowing that no one actually cared that she was stuck here, and no one would probably notice that she'd disappeared for any length of time, and all Mr. Hilton would do was yell at her for taking so long. "Possibly; he paid me before I left, but at this point? I don't know if it would make any difference." Illyana shook her head. This was not the time to be thinking like that. She'd only have one crack at trying to get Remi to think she was a person who was worth his time and friendship. "I do have pretty remarkable problem solving skills, so at least I can make myself useful while I'm here."

X-Men #1 thoughts

The art is hideous.

The tone is obnoxious.

There are way too many characters on the combat side, so all of them are written as quippy little nuisances. Save me from meme-y Illyana characterization.

The base side of things was better done. Hank, Glob, and Magneto were good.

Overall, a perfectly mediocre, absolutely generic X-Men issue, which is a terrible way to open a new era. No vision, no hook, just feels like cleaning up plot threads from Krakoa.

Illyana was disgruntled. There was no other way to describe her demeanor as she strolled up to Hunter's place, knocking almost rudely. She couldn't even say she wasn't getting paid enough for this, because she was - but it's not like any of that mattered now.

""Once again, your constant posting has ruined my life," was her greeting as he opened the door, though there was a bit of relief on her face to see that he was, for all intents and purposes, okay. She'd spent the first few days just trying to acclimate to the new normal before seeking him out, and the idea that he could have gotten part of him ripped off didn't bring her any pleasure despite their very (on her end at least) contentious relationship. She cared about him, but he was also the reason why she was now not only his babysitter, but stuck here as well. All the same, she let out a sharp whistle as Flash came bounding up. "I come bearing a gift, at least." Letting out another sigh of defeat, her shoulders sagged a little bit. "How the fuck do you live here?"

"My family isn't dead. I just cut ties with them." Illyana clarified. "So who do they turn into? People you know are safely inside so it doesn't phase you, or you just choose not to look at them?" She took a deep breath. This wasn't something worth getting riled up over. "Do you think they're actually solid?"

"because they look like they'd be cool to touch? why else would i want to touch one?" mika's expression twisted into one of confusion, but the smile remained on their face. "the best part of being alive is that we're all just a little different, i think. but i also don't have the misfortune of one of them turning into a dead loved one, so i don't think my opinion counts here."

I'm dumbfounded that people would even call out the obvious numerous flaws Spurrier's retcon had in Reddit of all place. I mean, that's the same website where I saw about 2 to 3 years ago an entire thread about how Marvel should retcon Azazel being Nightcrawler's father (for all the unfounded reasons you could think of from "he is a demon", "he is Satan", "he isn't a mutant" to "he is a rapist") and instead have Belasco become his father

The character that is not only a confirmed demon (he stopped being a human for centuries to a millennia and everything about him was altered to be 100% demon so there's nothing mutant about him) serving under the Elder Gods of Marvel Comics as a ruler of Limbo (actually Hell or a Hell realm) but canonically a rapist (Poor Beatrice...) and serial child molester/groomer and kidnapper (Poor Illyana and all the alternative versions of herself who were sacrificed by him)

X-Men #32. The invasion continues as Emma telepathically rallies everyone (I guess she got away from the Sentinel she and Synch had been previously fighting). She mentions the Bloom falling, placing this squarely after FotHoX #2, as well as Tony's Australian attack, which started in IIM #15.

Speaking of IIM #15, we get to see the brass knuckles Tony gifted her there in this issue - she's using these to crush some Orchis goons, since she seems to be en route to another mutant, Magik/Illyana Rasputina. I didn't follow the relevant issues to really understand what's going on in this particular plot thread, but basically Magik was affected by some Orchis tech and was having issues. Kitty and Polaris appear before Magik before Emma does, though, and help sort her out.

Emma then arrives. "Get in, losers, we're killing fascists." Onward!
