i don't know, magp fellas, but somehow when alice says shit like "i created you and i can destroy you" or "i was born down here and i will die here" i sorta... believe her? like yeah you're obviously joking but are you tho?
lowkey same vibes as gertrude going "of course, gerard! i just happened not to mention the network of sinister tunnels that snake beneath the archive where i keep all my darkest secrets"
#oh don't mind me#just unrolling the red thread like a hyper cat on mushrooms in a yarn factory here#there definitely *is* something about alice tho#i don't buy her detached carefree demeanor for a second#the magnus protocol#tmagp#the magnus protocol spoilers#tmagp spoilers

I haven't gotten to knit in about a week and I'm missing it! Went to a work conference that involved flying and wasn't sure TSA would confiscate my metal circulars. Guidelines say knitting needles are okay but it's up to the discretion of each agent so... decided not to risk it.
I'm behind on my schoolwork and personal life tasks so have no free time to sneak in some crafting. I can post about it, though.
Anyway, here's my WIP Rosemary shawl! Pattern by Gladys Amedro. I'm using the Jamieson and Smith kit with pattern/yarn. The printed pattern they sent me has some really egregious errors but they're... somewhat obvious, at least.
This is row... 100? Ish?
Did I mention it's not really yarn, it's thread??

Tiny test knit on size US 8/5mm needles. The cast on was the first part I spun from unprepared cotton, and then you can see it gets increasingly finer as my prep improved. Mostly I did this test to be able to see that progression, but I was also curious how well I'd be able to knit with what is essentially unplied thread.
Answer...bit of a pain. It snapped twice as I was binding off (I know the bind off edge looks so bad--this is why. Also it was hard.) which was not a good sign but also my needle kept just falling out of my work. Definitely need wooden needles if I try this again for a better grip.
I think it's not the right choice though. If I wove with it it would be much more durable then and would create a better fabric.
Issue is, I certainly would not put the weight of warping on this thread. So I will try plying the remains (to see if it's even doable or if it will snap and/or tangle) and then maybe try weaving that. As a 2 ply it should be good enough--it's already pretty strong, it's just snapping at the slubs, which currently seem unavoidable until I am much better at making punis.

I have a cold so I've been going between doing a bit of packing and mending the big ass holes in these slipper socks
Everyone should learn to darn in my opinion, I've already saved multiple sets of socks from the garbage and it's a nice activity if you're AuDHD like me and can't sit still when you're watching a show or movie
#visible mending#i also like adding new colours to socks with darning#i also feel it gives the clothing better stability and warmth#ive seen a few people on here who make a pretty multicoloured plaid pattern with darning#id love to try that out but i dont have the spoons right now#i did do two different colours of yarn this time though#and i like how that allows the colours of the green yarn to pop more#its so simple to learn#i just use the weaving technique#but ive seen multiple different ways to do it#get some sock weight yarn or embroidery thread and try it today!

Evaluating my crochet thread collection, most of it anyway. I'm sure there are balls squirreled away here and there... and some skeins. Also picking out some mushroom color combos. Want to challenge myself to make more colorful mushrooms without any white.

I have sewed a few more blocks from the beach quilt, and I repaired a stuffed animal for a neighbor (no pictures because it's not my stuffed animal), but crafting updates might be a little sparse for the next week or so? I have a short week at work this week, a lot of work to get done, and I am getting my covid booster this week (we'll see how that goes lol)
#the person behind the yarn#the stuffed animal was a charmander! I fixed a seam#my neighborhood has a facebook group and I have a standing offer to the group#that I will repair any stuffed animal for free as long as I don't have to buy supplies#and if I do have to buy supplies I will only charge for that but like#I almost never need to buy supplies. Repairs rarely take more than a scrap of fabric and a bit of thread and time#maybe a little stuffing but I buy polyfil stuffing in bulk it's no big deal to give a handful of it to a neighbor to fix a plushie#I can't help with neighbor projects and I can't attend neighborhood parties so this is my way of like#community building? so far I've only repaired a handful of things#but it makes me happy every time I am so glad I can help

In my excitement to ply this cotton thread I forgot that it means im now chained to this ply bracelet for the next Long While because im too afraid to take it off and ruin it
In my defense the thread is very fine.
I had actually planned to keep spinning on this one and see how much it will hold but I uh. Spilled some mulled wine on it. So now I need to clean it off and also definitely oil it again. So I figured I might as well see my new WPI.
Also finished up spinning this pink cotton sliver. Dyed... I suppose technically by me ? I bought this red flax several years ago and was so disgusted by how much the color came off that I decided to put some white cotton sliver in (after several rinses and drains of a small sample of the linen) for 20 minutes or so, and this was the result. And then I didn't do anything with it for ages because I've only recently begun to understand cotton spinning.
But now it's done (except for blocking). Approximately 22 yards, and now I once again have my favorite long spindle back.
From that spin I learnt that cotton sliver is just terrible and I should always prep it another way, because ugh. Result is nice though.
#cotton spinning#cotton#cotton thread#hand dyed#im hoping i can use this white thread as sewing thread#how cool would that be ???#depends on the wpi tho so we'll see#spinning#handspun yarn

So I may have made an absolutely terrible decision…. I have been hearing the siren song of the loom and I was not strong enough to turn away 😔 I really want a floor loom, but we have no space for one. So I got a table loom instead. Unfortunately, we have no space for this table loom either… I have no idea where I’m going to put it- hence why it’s terrible decision. It’s a lot bigger than I thought it would be. It’s currently on my sewing cutting table, but it can’t stay there. (Check out the angle it's bending my table at!) I don’t want to make it my roommates’ problem, but my craft room is an oversized walk in closet. There’s barely enough space to turn around in it. I don’t know what to do /: I don’t know where I can put it to actually weave. This table is too tall for me to weave while seated. why did I do this to myself. why couldn’t I be strong and resist the call of the loom.
but I found this for a super good deal! I was really lucky to find it! It came with books and a warping board and some yarn. It’s a Leclerc Medico that was made in 1974! a 4 shaft table loom that’s 22” wide. I’m really excited :3 I can weave fabric!! I mostly want to make yardage for sewing clothes out of.
I started warping it with the yarn that came with it- which is some 3/2 cotton yarn. I’m hoping it will turn into placemats. But I’m?? confused?? I have no idea what I’m doing. The books that came with it don’t actually have enough information to be helpful to a complete beginner. Even though they’re all called some variation of “weaving for beginners”. I am so completely lost. A lot of internet resources are on more modern looms or rigid heddle or floor looms or assume you have a raddle. I can’t find much for vintage table looms. Let alone for this specific model. So I’m sure I’m fucking this up. But here we go anyway.
#weaving#table loom#feyweaves#fiber arts#craftblr#crying struggling back pain#I think the fact that the table isn't level is fucking up the tension??#I've had a couple picks where the shed isn't fully formed and it skips a thread or two#the reed also doesn't beat it evenly#i need to find a new location#is it weird to weave on the floor#new definition for floor loom i guess#i think my first actual projects are going to be with halloween yarn bc its on sale at hobbii#buying lots of cones is expensive ):#i can't afford to buy like five of them at once if i want to do plaid or stripes or anything#i could barely afford this loom#i got it for an absolute steal

As someone who doesn’t knit or crochet much with normal-weight yarn (I do a lot of lace crochet with thread), I find it really interesting how there are two prominent and completely different views on what the best yarn type is.
There’s the people who love wool. You gotta love wool. It’s waterproof, it’s wonderful, it’s from a sheep (usually? I think? Is it called something else if it’s from other animals? Alpaca wool is a thing, right?). You can also easily spin and dye wool yourself, making it all the more wonderful and sustainable. Why have plastic yarn if you can make it from sheep hair? Sheep will always have hair to give.
And then, there’s the people who love synthetics. Why not? They make wonderful socks, and they’re decently sturdy. They can even be stretchy, too! With synthetics, you can get so many different vibrant colours, and the yarn can be uncannily uniform. Also, who has the time to hand wash everything nowadays? You can just toss it in the washing machine, if it’s synthetic. Why would you want expensive and potentially scratchy wool?
Alas, this is just what I’ve heard, for I sit in the middle with my piles of mercerized cotton thread.
(A little disclaimer on synthetics: they’re all different. This is not a care guide, please don’t destroy your socks)
#thread#yarn#wool#acrylic#acrylic yarn#nylon yarn#synthetic yarn#fiber art#crochet#knitting#also as far as I can tell#y’all don’t fight each other about it#which is very refreshing
