The Best of Metal Blade, Vol. 2 1987 Heavy Metal / Thrash Metal

I’ve posted about both volumes 1 and 3 of this short, mid-to-late 80s series that was put out by the long-enduring and pioneering heavy metal label Metal Blade Records before, so now, finally, we explore the middle, which, as it turns out, isn’t nearly as good as the bookends. And this is also by far the longest comp of the three, clocking in at a little over 92 minutes, but it’s also the least noteworthy of them as well. I’m definitely not the biggest metalhead out there, but I was still able to find some really cool tracks in this series’ other two volumes. Not so with this one though. 

And I really don’t mind this brand of 80s metal that ran as a necessary countercurrent to the hair bands that dominated the commercial space at the time—although I’ll freely admit that the preoccupations with hell, Satan, demons, blood, violence, skulls, medieval swordplay, and the like is certainly eyeroll-inducing—but nothing in this crop really sticks out as being particularly noteworthy to me 😔. Just pretty generic stuff that hasn’t aged very well, for the most part.
