Children of the Forest
The sounds of raucous, childish laughter bounced off the walls, drawing Y/N's attention downwards, towards where the young elves had just been let out of their scripting lessons. From where they stood, on Thranduil's balcony over the underground waterfall in the halls of Felegoth, they could see this small bit of elven life. Each day, the children ran from the small glen which housed desks, books, and all other bits and bobs required for teaching. They ran in pairs and triplets down the winding paths, deeper into the caves, off to their own families for quiet nights spent studying and laughing.
Before the elflings had disappeared around the bend, Y/N had turned from their position on the terrace, turning back towards their chambers. Their brows were furrowed, their mouth downturned.
"What troubles you, my love?" Came a familiar baritone. Thranduil had woken and was leaning on an elbow amidst Y/N's sheets. He had taken to more casual intimacies as of late, including moving his formal affairs around to nap in the afternoons. Ridiculous as it was, Y/N nearly blushed to think that the Elvenking was doing this for them.
"Nothing," they replied, perching on the edge of the bed. In truth, they'd hardly realized they looked troubled, they were so deep in thought.
"Do not lie to me," he murmured, drawing their arm through his hand and pulling it to his mouth, pressing a kiss to the wrist. "You have that look you get when you're about to scold Legolas."
Legolas was an elf grown now, but an errant prince who shirked his duties. Despite that, he was respectful and loving towards Y/N as his father's dearest friend - and lover.
But the thought of how Legolas had been when he was young brought the truth bubbling out.
"I was never any good with him."
"Nonsense," Thranduil scoffed.
"No, truly, Thranduil," they insisted, pulling their wrist from his grasp. "He did not like me when he was young, and I had no knowledge on how to raise him. Especially once his mother passed."
It had been uncomfortable for Y/N, to say the least, when Thranduil's queen had passed, leaving them to shoulder the brunt of Thranduil's grief. And, as his closest friend, to shoulder the burden of helping to raise his young son. Legolas had grown quickly, and was often away, but it had not been easy.
"But you did beautifully. You're always quite confident with children."
Y/N grimaced. They had been keeping this truth from him long enough, letting him believe what he wanted to believe. But they were spending their nights in his bed, and his afternoons in theirs. It was time he understood the truth of it.
"I do not enjoy children, Thranduil," they said, perhaps a bit too bluntly. Their tone softened. "I am not good with them, and I do not want children of my own."
If it was possible for the Elvenking to be stunned, he was now. Y/N watched as he went through his thoughts, schooling his emotions to approach them in the way that he always had. He had more patience with them than anyone, and still, he had to work hard to keep it now.
"I do not understand. How could you not want children?"
Their fingers played at the sheets, eyes averted as they spoke. "Your son is your heir. I would not want to complicate that. But beyond that... I do not think my body or soul fit to bear children. Or raise them. Or to be near them. I could not be a teacher, as the one who works just beyond our walls." Y/N turned to look beyond the terrace, as if they could see the children running below. "I used to wish I felt that pull towards elflings. But I cannot lie to myself; I do not feel it. I cherish them as our future, but I do not want to make them my present."
Thranduil was quiet, but he stilled their frenetic movements with a large, warm hand. His knuckles, his fingers, were strong as they held them still, contemplating. Y/N relaxed, enough for him to pull them down towards him. In an uncharacteristic show of tenderness, he pressed his lips to their forehead.
"When you explain it like that, I suppose I can quite agree."
A shocked laugh left their lips. "However do you mean?"
"Legolas is my son, whom I made out of duty to my people," he mused, running a thoughtful thumb down the side of their neck. "I did not bear him, but I raised him. I have little patience for him. And could you imagine me as a teacher?"
They laughed truly now. "What an idea."
Enraptured by his silvery irises, they were unsurprised when he leaned up to kiss them, deeply, languidly. Tenderly. Against Y/N's lips, he murmured, "I could never fully understand, meleth nîn, but I do not mind. I am happiest now, and could not ask for anything more of you."
Relief, sweet and warm, flooded them, and they returned his kiss, threading their fingers through his loose hair. No more needed to be said on the matter. Thranduil had always appreciated Y/N for who they were, and had accepted them with a patience and love that neither of them had ever known. The Elvenking hardly knew he'd had it in him to be so kindhearted, until he'd met Y/N.
"You ought to get back to your throne, my king," Y/N finally whispered, their warming the shell of his ear. He nipped at them playfully, but slowly rose from the bed and held out a hand to them. They took it, rising beside him to kiss him once more. "Come with me. I need my voice of reason today."
Together, the two descended to guard and guide the children of the forest, the future of the grey elves. And they were content.

🌳 fic friday;
early spring
legolas x thranduil x reader
sweet, silly, platonic
The sun beamed on the forest and trickled in through the treetops all around us. Little leaf-shaped shadows swayed across Legolas’ cheek as the warm breeze blew through the woods. It was one of the first days of spring and just about everyone was outside, filling up on warmth and sunshine after a long winter.
“It will be a warm spring I think.”
“Seems like it,” I agreed and ran a branch of baby leaves between my fingertips as I laid my back against the massive tree we were sitting in.
Legolas got quiet and rested his gaze further off. I watched him for a minute as he stared with his jaw tightened and eyebrows tensed.
“You look so much like your father just now.”
A smile grew on his lips and he laughed shortly, looking down at me again. I could see an idea spark in his eyes.
Grasping for a handful of fresh bendy branches around his head, he held them at his temples and furrowed his brows again as he cleared his throat.
“The early spring winds bring tidings of a long and fruitful summer. May we rejoice that winter has bid us goodnight for another year,” Legolas improvised in a low, silky voice as he stared off into the woods with a smile playing under his grave expression. I giggled and went to speak but my thought was cut short.
“You may yet grow into your voice, my son.”
We both snapped our eyes down to look at Thranduil who stood under our branch with the smallest of smirks beaming up at us. Legolas laughed softly and let go of his make-shift crown.
“Do I get to wear capes like yours then, father?” he teased further in a childish voice, eyes twinkling.
“If you shall ever reach my height,” Thranduil teased back calmly as an end to the interaction, already on his way past our tree. I laughed and poked Legolas in the shin with my toe.
“Father one, son zero.”
“Quiet,” Legolas laughed and poked me back with his toe.

Falling Leaves, Rising Love
Legolas x reader
Tumblr media
In the year 3001, under the golden hues of autumn, Rivendell shimmered like a jewel nestled in the heart of the valley. Its beauty was not just in its cascading waterfalls or the ancient, whispering trees, but also in the harmonious blend of nature and Elven architecture. It was here, in this serene abode of Elrond, that your story began.
You had lived in Rivendell for many years, finding solace in its tranquil gardens and the wise company of its inhabitants. Your days were often spent studying ancient texts or wandering the lush paths that wound like silken threads through the valley.
On a day painted with the vibrant colors of fall, Rivendell welcomed a group of Elves from the Woodland Realm. Among them was Legolas, son of Thranduil, whose arrival stirred the quiet air of the haven. You first saw him from a balcony adorned with climbing ivy, overlooking the courtyard where the newcomers were being greeted.
It was a moment suspended in time. Legolas, with his fair hair catching the sunlight and his bright eyes reflecting the clear, blue sky, turned just as you leaned forward, curious about the new arrivals. Your eyes met, and in that instant, something intangible and profound passed between you.
Legolas was struck by your presence, a feeling unfamiliar yet unshakeably deep. He had journeyed through Middle-earth, seen the wonders and horrors it held, but never had he felt such an immediate connection. You, equally taken aback, felt a warmth spread through you, an ember of emotion that you could not yet name.
The days that followed were like a dance, a gentle orbit around each other. You found reasons to be where Legolas was, and he, in turn, sought your company. Conversations flowed easily between you, filled with laughter and shared insights. In the Elven halls, by the murmuring river, or under the vast, starlit sky, your bond deepened.
Legolas was enchanted by your intellect and kindness, the way your laughter seemed to make the world brighter. You were drawn to his bravery and gentle heart, the wisdom that lay behind his youthful eyes. In Rivendell, time seemed to stand still, yet each moment you spent together was a cherished memory in the making.
As autumn waned and the leaves turned from gold to brown, your connection grew into a love that was as deep as the roots of the mountains and as enduring as the stars above. In Rivendell, amidst the timeless beauty of the valley, you and Legolas discovered a love that was as unexpected as it was profound, a love that would endure the passing of ages.

bio blurb
Thranduil rules over the woodland realm, and takes precious care for his people. Only his people, and the kingdom they live in, as time goes on. It becomes the safest way to survive and he’s not keen on any outsiders disturbing their relative peace. He has lost too much, his people have lost too much, and though he may seem harsh, he believes it is for their benefit. Maybe, one day, enough time will pass that it’s a stance no longer necessary to keep, but he very much doubts it.

“i enjoy watching you squirm”
pairing: young thranduil x reader
word count: 1.3k
prompt: prince thranduil and his childhood frenemy are harvesting apples in the woods, but things get a little tense and she starts feeling some stuff…
(this is a blurb i posted a while ago but i just reworked it and added a bunch of new stuff to it, for a school assignment :p so i figured i might as well post it here)
Having grown up being force fed a friendship with Thranduil, naturally I had grown to hate him. His father was of course The King, and my mother was a lady of his court. She simply could not have a daughter who was not in The Prince’s good graces.
The Prince had an unbreakable pride and sometimes smiled in ways that suggested he owned the very ground you trod. And I suppose he did, through means of his blood. However, it would be a day long from now that I cave to that notion.
As a boy Thranduil was a direct product of the confinements of a court. He had a hunger for the world, with the pride and arrogance of any young prince. Had he sworn he could fly, it is likely the Gods would have provided him with wings in the moment of leaping from the cliff.
Every chance he had to get on my nerves he took, and yet we had strangely bonded. Perhaps it was because we had always been the only children of our age in the court. Either way, I saw through him and he saw through me.
-
It was a golden afternoon with the sun hanging low in the sky as summer in the Woodland Realm was drawing its last breaths. The leaves around us had begun shifting colours, making it slightly more difficult to spot the apples we had been sent out to harvest.
As we trudged down towards the core of the apple tree grove, Thranduil had gotten a hold of a stray one and was carelessly slicing it in his hand with a small, sharp dagger. I glanced as he fed himself the slices and absently toyed with the knife, hooking his long finger into the bronze hoop at the end of it and swinging it around.
“You’re going to hurt someone,” I stated with a scowl, staring down at his careless hands. Rings adorned almost every single slender finger of his, each one shinier than the next.
The Prince looked at me, pulled out of his daydreams, and he smiled darkly as he secured the dagger in his fist instead. The rings gleamed in the setting sun.
“Are you frightened?” he asked with a curl of his lips and watched me through his dark brows. I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
“You could not hurt me even if you wished to,” I countered, but before I had the chance to lay my dismissive eyes back on him he had shoved me by the waist and caged me in against a massive oak tree behind me, the sticky blade of the dagger pressed to my cheek and his height hanging over me. Always one head taller. The half sliced apple had dropped from his hand in an instant and my lower ribs had taken its place in his palm.
“Could I not?”
The serene forest around us filled with the sound of my breath falling from my parted lips. Thranduil stared back at me with a smirk as his forehead brushed against mine and his fist tightened around the dagger, its blade on the verge of sinking into my skin. His one brow twitched, awaiting my response.
“Do it,” I challenged and raised one of my brows as well, my fingers soundlessly grazing the hilt of my own dagger at my hip. He licked his lips and flashed his playfully smug smile for a second. Just like when we were little elves. Play-fights and wrestling matches were always the pillars of our early kinship, and there were many times we had returned home at sunset with mud, grass and blood stains all over, expecting disappointed stares and sighs. We were toying with war before we knew the true meaning of the word.
“I do not wish to hurt you, mellon nin. I merely enjoy watching you squirm.”
Something burned and tingled inside me at his words but I scoffed again.
“I do not squirm,” I replied and forcefully shoved him off of me, to which he laughed and sheathed his dagger again, securing his long, pale hair behind the soft points of his ears.
“At least you’re never bored with me at your side.”
Thranduil hooked his arm around my shoulder, pulling me in for a tight half-hug. I smiled viciously up at him and jabbed my blunt dagger hilt into the relaxed flesh of his side, making him wince in pain and let go of me.
“And you’re never safe,” I joked and took a step to my side, desperately chasing that strange tingling feeling away. His calm laughter loomed behind me as I picked up the pace and took a right turn towards the apple grove.
The clearing housed a handful of ancient apple trees, massive with twisting trunks and branches drooping with the weight of its fruit. The tall treetops had parted to reveal the sky to us, painted in lavish oranges and pinks. At the northern horizon stood the tops of the Grey Mountains, Ered Mithrin, bathing in the last sunlight of the day.
Thranduil planted his feet soundlessly at my side. Always an arm’s length away. Our elven hearts had settled peacefully in our chests, instinctively pious towards the beauty in the nature of our land. There was not a trace of smugness left in The Prince’s smile now. This was his finest of forms; reverent and sincere.
“A mountain needs no tongue in order to speak to you, ears in order to listen, nor arms in order to hold you,” he quoted a proverb of old, his voice smooth like the soft breeze that danced past us. He was one with the woodlands. His sharp nose was a steep mountain wall, his sleek muscular build a young tree and his eyes were icy lakes in the winter.
We began stuffing our woven sacks with apples from the mossy ground.
“What do you make of the Lady Calathiel of Lothlórien?” Thranduil asked after a beat.
I stopped to glance at him, unsure of how to respond. He avoided my gaze, continuing to pick apples. I knew he had encountered the elf maiden on a visit to the Golden Wood of Lothlórien and I knew she had left an impression on him, having pestered me with lengthy recalllings of their conversations. However, I had not known his mind still dwelled on her. It had been nearly two moons since his visit.
“I do not know her,” I said in truth.
“I mean to propose to wed her.”
He continued picking apples absently and I continued standing still, my bones frozen in shock. He had never before shown this type of interest in anybody, save for his own reflection.
I suppose I had never imagined a life where Thranduil was not constantly at my side, where we were not always two halves of one - albeit dysfunctional - whole.
The Prince peered up at me now, putting a hold on his harvesting for a moment and standing up straight again.
“Oh, melda, you must not worry. You will always be the elf maiden of my sweetest dreams,” he cooed, mocking my stunned silence. His smirk dripped of conceit again. I snapped out of my shock and narrowed my eyes at him.
“I can not wait for the day you are the Lady Calathiel’s burden in my stead.”
Thranduil chuckled as I steered my eyes away and began gathering the apples at my feet, ignoring the burning sensation in my core.

I’m still borrowing professorsparklepants’ idea for a Fanfic I Won’t Write Friday. Not sure if they came up with it first, but they’re the one I’m stealing it from so I want to give them credit.
So the idea was to combine the Lord of the Rings lore with the Myth series lore (Myth not Myst). Still no title since names tend to be something I only do when I have a real idea of what I’m doing with the story.
-
Since the First Age when Men and Elves were new to Arda and Dwarves were first woken from stone, darkness and light has fought for dominance over the world. Each five hundred years was marked by the passing of a comet, heralding the coming of Morgoth's chosen leader. The Free Folk know that this sign is a turning point, a chance for the light to prevail over the darkness that reigns or a chance that the dark might destroy what was built in the light. Many heroes have risen and fallen fighting the forces of Morgoth and his chosen and each age has tales of great warriors and the prosperity they brought to the people of Middle Earth at the end of the darkness's reign.
It is said that the one born under the light of this comet will be the chosen hero, though few can say with much certainty whether this is indeed true. The records of the Woodland Realm, preserved from the Third Age, indicate that many heroes claimed to be born marked for the greatness they achieved. My Uncle Bilbo always told me that to believe that one would achieve victory because of their birth was folly, that hard work, luck, cleverness, and friends are more important than celestial signs. Uncle Thorin preferred to believe that one's birth could dictate their life, that one could be born for great things.
This is our story. The story of a Hobbit who was brave enough to face down a dragon. The story of a Dwarf king who fell in love. The story of a king of Men, of a prince of Elves, and a young Hobbit who was tasked with something greater than anything ever done before in the history of our world. My story is only a part of the greater whole and, should you be one such hero, I hope you feel the same about your own role in the fight against the darkness.
Sincerely,
Frodo Baggins

Honestly I just got that blurb and a general plot written. It was supposed to be a three part series I think. The plot is as follows:
500 year cycle of dark and light
Introduce Bilbo and Thorin
Gandalf sends Thorin to meet Bilbo for his assistance in his quest
Bilbo meets the company and Gandalf, agreeing to the quest
Head to Rivendale for information on dragon slaying, the map, and the cycle
Reach Goblin Town – No Ring Yet
Face off against Azog
Reach Beorn's and learn more about shapeshifters and their allegiance
Travel through Murkwood
More isolated Elven Kingdom – Thranduil warns them the cycle is endless
Reach remnants of Dale – No Lake Town
Defeat Smaug – warns them that he is only the beginning of the dark they will need to fight
Discuss next step in quest
Begin new journey, company separating to gather allies
Meet again months later at Rivendale – Discuss upcoming war to drive back the darkness
Bilbo tells Thorin of the sign for Hobbits – they fight and Bilbo returns to the Shire to search for the one born under the sign
See the warning comet in the sky
Thorin and the allied armies go to Moria while Bilbo finds Frodo and returns to Rivendale
Gandalf and Saruman go to Dol Guldor to face the Necromancer
Thorin is injured and brought back to Rivendale – Elrond is lost
Saruman and Gandalf return with news that Sauron will fall forever if the Ring is destroyed
Bilbo cares for Thorin and Frodo as a false peace settles over Middle Earth
Frodo is of age and darkness has swept over the lands again
Quest to find the Ring has begun – Bilbo and Thorin argue over who should search and where, going their separate ways
Bilbo and Frodo find the ring in the depths of Moria guarded by the Balrog – Thorin and his nephews fight Bolg at Gundabad mountain
Bilbo and Frodo travel to Mount Doom, taking refuge in Beorn's lands
Thorin meets Bilbo at Gladden Fields – Bilbo agrees to return to Rivendale to bring their allied forces to the war while Thorin takes Frodo to Mordor
The army assembles on the Battle Plains – Bilbo meets Frodo and Thorin at Minas Tirith
Frodo goes into Mordor alone while Thorin and Bilbo go to lead the army
Bilbo and Thorin fall as Ring is destroyed
Frodo returns to Shire to become Thain after Aragorn is crowned king
Frodo's journal notes on his Uncles and his hopes for their happiness knowing they helped end the cycle
I don’t think I’ll delete this yet. Probably will never get it done though. It’s also in its own document where it is never worked on.
Pros of continuing this fic:
Might be cool?
Cons of continuing this fic:
What would it add to the fandom?
What is this story doing that is new?
OMG look at how long it’s going to be. It’s going to take forever and I have way too much other stuff to work on.

thranduil—to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die.
summary: thranduil values you above everything. perhaps above morality.
word count: 0.6k
fanfiction no. 005
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the war had come. here you stood before the lonely mountain and its cowardly king, to the left of you his brutish cousin, and behind you an army of orcs. thranduil would not fight, you knew he would not, and you could feel the disdain within you bubble to the surface the closer the army came to the brave, tired and worn men who stood their ground and would fight to their last breath.
"you cannot let them fight this war alone," you seethed, tugging on thranduil's arm.
thranduil turned to you calmly, but disrupted this act of content as he whipped himself from your grasp and said through gritted teeth—“i will not waste elvish blood on a petty dispute between orc and dwarf."
"you and i are both aware this goes far deeper than a petty dispute, far deeper than a promise to end a bloodline. he is coming."
"and he will come regardless of the outcome of this insignificant battle," countered thranduil. "buying time is buying into delusion."
your jaw clenched as you looked at him helplessly. "then you will return alone," you held your head high and unsheathed your sword, heading into the ranks of men.
before thranduil could stop you, he had lost you within the crowd, hesitating too long to truly understand what your words could mean.
you did not see your king as the battle begun, but you saw his impact, his influence, as an army of elves leapt from the ranks of men and thrusted themselves into battle. though you had no time to smile, you were grateful, you were triumphant. perhaps it would be the only battle you won that day.
。+゚☆゚+。★。+゚☆゚+。★。+゚☆゚+。★。+゚☆゚+。
the bloodline had ended. the battle was done. you followed legolas, knowing he was searching for his father. you stood silently, a safe distance away, as father and son said their goodbyes, before approaching thranduil himself. his expression was indecipherable, though stern, but his figure was hunched and it left you wondering what he would say to you.
"you were reckless today," he stated simply.
"i may have been, but i could not leave," you admitted firmly, standing your ground despite disappointing your king.
you could bare to disappoint your king, but to disappoint thranduil was something else entirely. at present, you weren't sure which begrudged you or whether it was the both of them.
"you cannot defy me so openly, so willingly," he scolded you.
"i couldn't live with myself if i had left these people to die, knowing i could have helped in some way," you said softly, pleading with him to understand the reason behind your actions and defiance.
thranduil took an angry step forward, looking down upon you as if you were nothing but a nuisance. "and do you think i could live..." he softened, "if you had perished in this war when i could have done something to prevent it?" he asked tenderly, cupping your face in his pale hand.
leaning into his touch, you felt empathy for the man who had faced great loss and feared its repetition. "i would not leave you that way," you reassured him with sugarcoated lies.
"promises mean little when you have not the power to keep them."
but his resolve dissipated and he sighed softly, pulling you into his chest where he felt you were safest and kissed your forehead gently. he wondered at his ability to go from violence to softness so quickly, but knew that it was simply a necessity of a king in middle earth, where evil ran free and rampant across the lands.
"i do not like to be frightened," he reminded you.
"i will do my best never to make you feel that way again," you promised, genuinely this time.
"thank you, meleth nîn," he whispered in your ear, kissing your lips sweetly and gently when you turned to look up at him.

Prompt 29 w our favorite Elvenking?
A/N: This was another thing that was long overdue. A sleepover drabble from my 500 followers sleepover a few weeks back (months? I lost track of time this year). I was actually writing for PS and my Hobbit P&P when my brain went... You know that Thranduil blurb request? What if... Et voilà!
Prompt #29: How is my wife more badass than me?
Elvish translations: míriell nín: my sparkling star meleth nín: my love mir nín: my treasure
Tumblr media
MY BADASS QUEEN
“How is my wife more badass than me? Or my guard?”
It was a sentence Thranduil never thought he’d ever have to say out loud and yet here they were.  ‘Here’ being the forest of Mirkwood, and ‘they’ were him, his beloved wife and a handful of guards.  Useless guards, Thranduil thought with a frown. Each of them were looking at maintenance duty for the next few months. He glared at them and at least they had the decency to look guilty.
“I don’t know, you tell me,” you smirked, while looking at the two dead spiders in front of you, satisfied with your work. You grabbed the hem of your cloak and used it to clean your sword.
“Aílon, be a dear and retrieve my dagger for me please,” you asked the guard closest to you.
“Certainly, my Queen.”
Aílon ran towards the spider who was the furthest away and pulled your dagger out of its head.
“This doesn’t change a thing, you do realise that?”
“Oh hush, nobody likes a sourpuss, mírielêl nîn,” you smiled, making your way back to your horse. When you passed your husband, you let your finger trace his chin. A silent challenge.
Thranduil scoffed, but you didn’t miss the twinkle in his eyes.
“A sourpuss?”
You nodded.
“Yes. You’re a sourpuss. Because you always have to have your way. I do not need to have guards at my side at all times.” You raised your hand to silence Thranduil when he wanted to interrupt. “I don’t, meleth nîn.”
One of the guards helped you on your horse and hid your sword and dagger under the train of your cloak.
“I think I’ve shown you more than once that I can take care of myself.”
Thranduil mounted his trusted Elk and let him walk next to your horse, matching its pace. The guards lined themselves up behind the both of you, following on foot.
“I always seem to forget,” the Elvenking smiled. “You never fail to amaze me.”
“So no more guards?”
He shook his head, closing his eyes in the process. When he opened them again, there was a sadness in them.
“I cannot allow you to enter the forest alone, mir nín.”
You knew he wouldn’t give in, you had expected this. But that didn’t mean you couldn’t tease him a little further, push his buttons some more. After all, you had just beaten him and your guards in slaying two giant spiders, before they even knew what was going on.
“Fine, I won’t go alone. On one condition,” you suggested. “You will be the one to accompany me.”
“Me?” Thranduil raised an eyebrow in question.
You fluttered your lashes at him, playing the innocent part. Clearing the way for your kill. Well, not a kill exactly. Burn would be a better term.
“Yes, my love. You were right, the forest is getting much too dangerous for a lady like myself to be in. I do need someone by my side. And I’d rather have it to be you.”
“Of course, meleth. I will make sure no harm comes to you,” he promised.
You chuckled.
“No, no, my love. I will defend myself, thank you. However, there is something I can use your strength and skills with.”
“And what may that be?”
“Someone needs to carry my sword for me…”
