I came here for the silly haha doodles, but I've stayed for the absolutely blazing commentary in the tags. Your analysis of this story is so so so good! Thanks for all the work and thought you put into this!

me: "Wow, The Green Knight (2021) dir. David Lowery, starring Dev Patel is such a breathtaking classical epic. It's so richly portrayed in its fantastical and character study elements. The dynamic between Gawain and the Knight, plus the pseudo-throuple chemistry of him and the 'Lord and Lady' is so well done. Gawain seeing the ruinous vision of where cowardice and pure self-preservation would lead him as opposed to a dignified ending (so he thinks it will be) and being a fellow of honor and a kept word was incredibly powerful. What a marvel of storytelling. If the movie is this good, I can only imagine how great the original poem must be!"
The original Sir Gawain and the Green Knight: This poem is 99.99% descriptions of feasting, pretty armor, and how great wonderful hot awesome virtuous beloved Gawain is. Also how utterly jacked and virile and sexy and green the Green Knight is. No it will not explain how or why an explicitly pagan Fae-coded forest entity is a devout Christian, ditto his wife and castle staff. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, enjoy this spontaneous rant at the end where Gawain blames his and all other great men's ills on falling for evil icky women wiles--directly after being told by the Green Knight that his wife was working under the Knight's orders to tempt and test Gawain in the first place. Green Knight and his lady are still DTF and let Gawain crash with them though, xoxo

I don’t quite know how my brain got here right now - but I’m thinking thoughts about the way the show has been paralleling Buck and Eddie with each other - as well as with the canon couples on the show - but in a very specific and interesting way - because when you take Abby and Tommy as a collective - they are a parallel of Shannon.
All three are firsts and not lasts for Eddie and Buck.
Abby and Tommy have been intentionally connected on the show (yes making use of a fluke name commonality but that’s what makes it especially clever and interesting) on several levels as being basically two sides of the same coin - Abby was his first serious relationship and Tommy his first queer relationship - they are both Bucks firsts and not his lasts. In the same way that Shannon was Eddie’s first and not his last - the show chose to have buck point out that Shannon was the first girl Eddie slept with - implying she wasn’t his first girlfriend (something that was confirmed in the cut Eddie/Chris conversation about the lake.
If you think of Shannon as two entities instead of one person - Texas Shannon and LA Shannon - it becomes easier to spot the parallels.
Texas Shannon is paralleled with Abby - both leave their respective homes and don’t come back - both Buck and Eddie expected them to return when they had done taking some time for themselves - finding themselves.
While LA Shannon is paralleled with Tommy - LA Shannon asks for a divorce after Eddie wants to have the second child he thinks is coming and to get remarried etc - to go all in with her and their relationship. He is making a decision based on flawed thinking and external expectations after a conversation with a ‘elder’ (supposedly wiser figure - Bobby).
Which is very much a parallel to Tommy dumping Buck after Buck decides to go all in and ask Tommy to move in and starts talking about marriage - after the hurdle of discovering Tommys past with Abby and having talked to an elder (in this case Josh who is a queer elder).
Both narratives are connected to commiting to something due to societal expectations - for Shannon it was becoming pregnant outside of marriage in a Catholic dominant society and therefore ending up married to Eddie.
While for Tommy it was having to mask himself as a straight man because he was in the army and firefighting - both environments that were toxicly masculine and heteronormative at the time Tommy was in them and so he ended up in a relationship with Abby - which then sets up the circumstances for Abby to feel the need to run to find herself.
Both Texas Shannon and Abby then feel the need to run - to find themselves because of the environment they find themselves in and this sets up LA Shannon and Tommy as second firsts for Eddie and Buck. And both LA Shannon and Tommy have grown and evolved since Texas Shannon and Abby and both can see that their respective relationships are not meant to last - that they’re not the right fit - that they are forced and they have the personal development to choose end them before they cause more hurt and damage.
It’s a great play on being firsts and second chances but not lasts and it ultimately shows the suitability of buddie - they make the same mistakes in a different way - both having their first independent of each other but having their second chance/ second first whilst within each others orbits - and because they are ultimately looking for the same thing it is all serving to spin them closer to each other to a point where they can understand what their lasts look like - and that it’s each other

Shilk and Vanilla's relationship in Tapestry's wispers is messy, as usual with beasts of deciet and wielders of truth alike. They don't get along very well
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shadow Milk does still play an important role despite the short notice though. Mainly with the way he handles his "Grand entrance" in the faerie kingdom, and how he decides to work with Vanilla
Tumblr media
Don't wanna spoil much, so for now I'll just say he prefers actors instead of little hand made puppets. Why miss out the opportunity of starting the show with a bang after all? Plus, candidates are always welcome!
Tumblr media
Also here's the same Vanilla guy with a cup of cocoa, as a treat./silly

Diner at the End of the Falls episode concept where The Greasy’s GangTM goes to Lake Gravity Falls early in the morning to get some fish for the menu, and meet some new and old friends along the way…
[Pacifica meets a ghost who says other ghosts are being sucked into the lake by the island head beast who’s been mostly benevolent til the last year, only to realize he’s been going crazy because of that luggage bag filled with weird bill tapestries that’s been tainting the lake and the poor head…thing. Oops. ]

one of my current favorite obsessions are the devonshire tapastries, a set of four late medieval, (the v&a says sometime around the 1430s, though some of the group might be dated to later) tapastries showing groups of nobles hunting different animals. i know they sound awful, but they actually are the best thing i've seen i promise, just look:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they're broken up as: the boar and bear hunt, the deer hunt, the otter and swan hunt, and the falconry tapestry, (again this is all from this article from the v&a site).
generally speaking rich people (the patreons of the arts, as always) in the medieval ages weren't super into paintings, and the ones that come from the medieval period are rarely secular (non-religious) in subject matter. The truly favored medium of the medieval period was tapestries, although, being fabric, they as a group definitely did not survive very well into the present day.
I just love all of the details, the intricate details on the clothing, the way the figures all interact with each other. It's quite reminiscent of a giant comic strip, although it's probably closer to a single panel frame than a multi paneled story.
they're just so fun to look at!! ^-^

Just saw Furiosa in theaters again because I wanted to check out the Mr. Harley subplot/fan theory (here’s a rundown with spoilers https://www.reddit.com/r/MadMax/comments/1dg5ou3/made_a_point_to_keep_a_close_eye_on_mr_harley/) and it’s wild how obvious it is if you’re looking, while at the same time being totally not obvious if you aren’t paying attention to it. This was my 6th time watching and my first time catching any of it!!

Honestly. I don't know what kind of crack gets poured in my drink or food while I am not looking on the nights I do these "fast pieces". I did this last night and another piece of Legolas and Jien with a really cool background, and both of these took around 2 hours, maybe even less. Now I get why y'all seemed a bit surprised with my last "quick piece". I am now shocked too. And this turned out so good? I am so proud of myself, may this skill never leave me or I'll sob and crash.
Anyhow, I am really into the LOTR mood lately, so expect more LOTR stuff along with Jien LOTR AU stuff. (take a shot every time I say LOTR).

The flip side of "Bill shows people he cares about them (or tricks them into thinking he cares about them) by flattering them and giving them gifts, and ONLY flattering them and giving them gifts, NO EMOTIONAL LABOR ALLOWED" is that Bill also accepts caring in the form of gifts and flattery.
If somebody goes "Hey Bill I found a cool rock and I painted your face on it, do you want it," he'll go "you're the only creature in this godforsaken multiverse who gives a shit about me. I would and will murder for you."
This makes how he interacts with his human worshipers very funny.
"Hello! I'm going to shower you in compliments and otherworldly knowledge! I'm a divine muse! If you want to strengthen your connection to me, you should plaster my face all over everything."
"Okay!" *makes tapestries and statues and paintings depicting Bill* "This is my divine muse, he blesses me with knowledge! He's so amazing!"
"... so like... I know I'm your god and you're my puny worshipper but, like, we're also besties, right? you're telling me we're BFFs—?"
