BUYING A CAR HAS BEEN AN EXPERIENCE?

I know I blog about him every so often but Fitzy is, for context, the very first car I ever drove and have been driving since getting my permit in 20 fucking 11. TWENTY ELEVEN! HOLY HELL! I low key picked him out lmao, my parents brought us kiddos to the dealership when we had to replace the civic as old as me bc it got TOTALLED on the HIGHWAY by a TRUCK REAR ENDING IT, and my mom pointed out the Fit and went ou this one's cute!

And I stood beside it and went holy shit. It's me sized. And I sat in it and went OH MY GOD I LOVE IT. And it was BLUE and had a SPOILER and a lil bug eyed face and looked like it had FEELINGS and I said to my dad "if we get this car I am driving it"

I was 11 or 12 lmao.

My dad was like "We'll see about that"

in my head I was like "it's 4 years! we'll still have the car!"

I guess my dad wanted to trade it in? He didn't, lol, and then I got to learn to drive in Fitzy! AND BOY DID I DRIVE HIM! My siblings did, too, so Fitzy's been a real champ in our lives! We all learnt to drive with him!

I didn't take the car fully from my Dad until about, 2019? I got the car for a year in 2016/17 and it was EXCELLENT, I LOVED having it, the ability to just GO PLACES?!?!?!? BEAUTY! I covered some oil changes and bigger fixes and Fitzy kept. On. GOING.

I named Fitzy in 2017 when I had him for the year, and it caught on then! And he was such a verbal lil car (mostly bc things broke a lot bc he was also 10 at that point and FILLED WITH RUST BEGINNINGS) and he pulled to the left always which was funny bc like, why. We never knew. Honda didn't know. Mechanics didn't know.

He has ALWAYS had a slightly loud muffler, but not obnoxiously. It was very FUN to accelerate on the highway with him.

In 2019 my Dad's work went remote; so I took the car back home with me and became the main driver. It was, in all but name, my car. I had to save him from being declared unsafe by fixing the shocks, but we had many many years after that! My GOD we drove all OVER. It was FUN! It's still fun! but not very safe anymore I'm afraid ):

About this time last year I learnt that the rust had progressed to the point where the rear passenger seat had a giant fucking hole under it. I was given the ok to still drive it, but the moment someone sits back there? DANGER MOBILE. So, I put the seat down and it became CONDEMNED. Given the wedding, Richard and I kept making trips up and down and we had a HELLA snowy winter so the roads? COVERED in salt. and if you live anywhere like Canada with brutal winters, you KNOW salt is a KILLER on cars.

So, Fitzy's rust got worse. Every time I went for oil changes, they'd remind me hey, rusty car. maybe think of a new one? Then we'd discuss how feasible this is and they'd make it driveable bc it wasn't in the cards to get a car--between shit markets, FITS NOT BEING MADE ANYMORE!!! AND Richard also having to replace his car (rip Goldie you are missed every god damn DAY), it was in our best interest to keep Fitzy going as best as we could.

So I DID

We MOTORED. I've done 120km ish on that car JUST ON ME OWNSOME! And it was FUN! I love that car SO FUCKING MUCH. I know like, it's just a car, blah blah, I GET IT but like. GOD. He's important to me!!!!

So this year rolls around. And Poor Ftizy. My god. He is going through it.

January: wheel well pops off and tire shreds the plastic. I call CAA, they bring it to Honda, Honda tells me to put the car down. Nothing has changed; they just saw the rust and are more SALES oriented as opposed to my mechanic!

February: alternator goes

March: muffler has lost an anchor point; won't stop rattling along. Rust on the bumper finally gets to the point where the bumper pops out of the side. Y'all. I duct tapped that boy. Fucken eh.

April: MUFFLER BREAKS INTO 3 PIECES. FITZY HAS GONE FROM STOCK CAR FUN TIME TO HOLY SHIT SOMEONE HELP THIS CAR. We're planning for the wedding so I cannot fix him, alas.

May: Fitzy is benched ): bc muffler ): Goldie picks up the slack; post honeymoon, mechanic finds some expensive fixes. Asks Richard if they're band-aiding or what? Richard makes the executive decision to leave it, arranges a new used car with his mechanic. RIP Goldie; enter Ruby.

Late May: Given Ruby joining the fam, I get Fitzy fixed. We can't replace both cars anytime soon so. Here we go!

The mechanic recommends a muffler specialist down the street; they fix Fitzy up REAL NICE. He drives like he used to! I was like, we will be SAILING THIS SUMMER! HELL YEAH

So what happened?

Upon Richard getting a new car, I was thinking more and more about Fitzy. And the anxious levels alllll year every time I went to drive waiting for the next shoe to drop (the next thing to break). I started doing research, to see what the best car to replace the Fit would be. I start pricing shit out, seeing if two car replacements in the same year is feasible. June rolls around.

June: I went to the mechanic.

Regular maintenance; they do what they can, and they see how the rust has progressed.

The answer: WORSE. Worse enough that new rust related problems have appeared, and they break down everything wrong with the body:

still got the flinstone hole

anchors for back seat belts are compromised due to corrosion levels back there

spare tire carrier is rotten

left AND right rockers are rotten

left front axle seal is leaking

essentially, if someone rear ends me? I'm crumbling WITH the car. The structural integrity of cars today is such that they crumble AROUND you, keeping YOU safe. Fitzy...didn't have that ability anymore.

So after a month long deep dive into used HRVs vs Fits, and what's around, and what I'd like, I book a test drive for an HRV, and...got it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So now Fitzy is finally being retired. After I've saved him from the brink of death about 2 times. It was BOUND to happen eventually--I just wish it hasn't been the SAME year as wedding and Richard's car replacement and EVERYTHING ELSE going on this year.

But my GOD, am I EVER relieved! I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for the new car and being able to DRIVE! WITHOUT WORRIES! Well, Fitzy worries lmao. The worries of collisions or things are there, but my god is it ever nice to be able to GO PLACES AGAIN WITHOUT FEARING FOR MY SAFETY! And Richard and I have had to coordinate drives and trips bc one car use only for the most part and it was getting hard!

BUT GOD IS BUYING A CAR EVER EMOTIONAL

On top of me pack bonding with my Fit, this weekend was a WHIRLWIND:

test driving the car was fucking NICE

the sales staff was gr8 and didn't rush us or force us to buy. answered all my fit and hrv related questions; all of richard's more financial/warranty sort of q's.

They tell us to take lunch to go talk it over, and we do

we have a 2 hour discussion over omelettes at a ma and pa diner about if we should do this, given what we learnt about the market while there and our own needs

this included: can we function with one car? do we feel financially secure enough for this? Will leasing/fianncing (which is what we did) break the bank? y'know, all that fun adulty shit

ultimately, you can't put a price on A) safety, and B) mental health! and not having a car that works has SUCKED for my own, bc a huge portion of my independence has been GONE, and it has SUCKED

so, Harley, Fitzy's replacement, has been acquiered.

HERE'S THE EMOTIONS PART THO.

SATURDAY:

upon making this decision amongst ourselves, we inform the parental units! my fam: relieved as FUCK. Proud and happy for me. Figuring out what to do with Fitzy now (that's a whole thing)

Mother in Law? not so much

IMMEDIATELY gives Richard the MEANEST lecture on everything he and I discussed over lunch and the past month, berates and guitls and just ruins the vibe

RICHARD gets all upset about it, we spend the drive back home venting about it, mood very ruined, doubts seeded (despite us doing our research and making sure we weren't getting fucked and such)

we get home and he THEN has to call her back and let her yell MORE before she goes "I'm calm and just concerned" and he explains what we did and how it's working and all that jazz and how we are going to be ok

this whole experience was exhausting

SUNDAY

sleep tf in bc we are TIRED

my parents call to chat about Fitzy and tl;dr: they have steel dealers there that'll pay a lot for Fitzy and want to bring him back and scrap him there

this was a whole thing. "can you drive it up?" i could but do NOT feel comfy given the issues cited at the mechanic. "what if we drove it?" same issues! your safety is important to me! "we can tow it" that'll be pricey "we can tow it ourselves!" can the van do that? and so on

turns out they were doing that bc they remembered the van they had, which had the EXACT SAME ISSUES AS FITZY (rust was killing it, then the muffler broke and they fixed it, then the power steering needed replacement but was in such a rusty area it could result in MORE damage they'd have to pay to fix, not the mechanic), and they got 0 money for it. So. My Mom was determined to find a place that'd give us a decent amount for Fitzy

And also, she and my dad are grieving the car too lmao, one of the places was called car heaven and my mom had. emotions about it

so that was a LOT to deal with, on top of MIL's finance lecture we did not need bc YEAH GIRL WE BE KNOW? Yeah

"blah blah PARENTS CARE" THEN THEY COULD AT LEAST BE NICE ABOUT IT. OR STRAIGHTFORWARD ABOUT IT

but we get that wrapped up and my parents find a way to tow the car home safely for all of us, promise to make sure the van is safe enough to do that :)

MONDAY

so after ALL THAT exhausting shit, comes the Big Day: INSURANCE DAY

Richard and I get quotes online when we can at work, to come home and call and settle on the best rates

on lunch, I get YET ANOTHER FINANCE LECTURE from my friend in STATS and it felt AWFUL.

"i dont wanna be like ur MIL," she said, AFTER KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED THERE!

it SUCKED. didn't help that she was tired bc she had a bad night sleep, but man did it make me upset and sad! I KNOW the interest is a LOT but WE ARE NOT FLUSH WITH CASH AND DO NOT HAVE GOOD CREDIT AND HAVE BEEN SPENDING WAY TOO MUCH ON CAR REPAIRS. Everything I've paid into Fitzy this year alone? COULD COVER THE NEW INSURANCE POLICY FOR THE Y E A R

i dislike being talked down too and i dislike people talking to me like i'm stupid bc I feel like a lot of people take my bubbly-ness and like. general friendly-ness as a clue that I've got NOTHING going on up there and I can be taken advantage of

I CAN DRIVE WITHOUT NEEDING TO DO A NERVOUS SHIT AT EVERY ON ROUTE AGAIN! I DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE NEXT NEW WEIRD NOISE! HARLEY (that's Fitzy's successor's name) DOESN'T DO THAT SHIT! I HAVE A WORKING CAR AND THE MONEY WE WILL SAVE FROM BAND-AIDING OUR BEATERS WILL BE A NICE CHANGE OF PACE! AND I AM TIRED OF PEOPLE TALKING DOWN TO ME AND TREATING ME LIKE I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING! GAH!

Fitzy, you were an absolute G, and I love you so goddamn much, you will always be the BEST CAR I have EVER had, and you will ALWAYS BE in my HEART and I will remember you FONDLY! He's got a space in CS now--he always has but it's even more cemented now (Jacqueline drives Fitzy. And he is. In his PRIME in CS, and I think that's the best thing I could do to remember my lil blue anger machine for forever) and I am going to miss that car so much but THANK YOU, FITZHERBERT. HE GOD DAMN FIT!

I'm sorry my handwriting isnt the best but here's Sun's little home! He lives in an extensive cave system and his bed is made up of various animal pelt/furs, moss and other soft greenery, and flower petals!

And those glowing berries are gifts from Moon since Sun can't really see all that well in the dark.

And here's Moon! He's made his home in the branches of the extremely dense forests in his half of the biome. He's got a network of nests that string together on multiple trees with little pathways and such. All bound together with rope made from vines that are just everywhere.

His nest is very mush a bird's next but b i g, and on the inside it's made with various animal pelts/furs, feathers, and moss/leaves. He's also got lil pouches made from pelts to put stuff in

and here's y/n who makes their first permanent home at the very north of the biome affectionately named "coconut cove" since it's got a lot of coconut trees and such.

And now for some info on how the boys hunt so TW for a bird being eaten and teeth!

Those flowers in Sun's half of the biome are carnivorous! They can emit both a sweet scent or a rotten scent to attract prey! Sun mimics this flower, waiting patiently until the right moment to snatch up whatever's unlucky enough to get near his rays

And Sun can open his mouth in 4, appearing more flower like compared to Moon who can only open his mouth along the line going down his face

And here's Moon! He can mimic noises he hears around him, and very well! He use's this to lure in prey close to his hiding spot among all those glowing fruit that just cover the trees. He waits for the perfect moment before striking and getting his meal.

His lil sleeping cap also works as a feeler of sorts, helping him sense if prey is close without having to fully rely on his eyes. Though he does like snacking on the glowy fruits every once in a while.

KH OC WEEK 2024

Day 6: journal

Shiro

Shiro picked up keeping a journal from being around the apprentices during their time in the organization. It was also a way for them to ease their fear of losing their memory again, since at least this time they’d have something to help them remember and keep track of everything.

Their first entries were very systematic, listing important things and people to remember with occasional entries about the events of their day. (Their journal reflected their paranoia quite a lot)

Shiro has, however, later on managed to let go of their fear a bit more, which can be seen in their diary entries becoming more casual, with occasional doodles appearing on the pages. I definitely think Shiro would also keep whatever photos they've managed to acquire in their journal. Mostly photos of people's faces they'd wish/think were important to remember, with some scenic photos scattered in there.

This ended up being a fun call back to an old KH OC WEEK entry about the character hobbies, where I included that Shiro does journaling haha.

Aiko + Merin

Aiko’s journal is very much what you’d expect a teenage girl's private diary to look like. It’s a place where she’s free to ramble on about whatever comes to mind and vent out her feelings when needed.

She tries to write down the important things happening during her journey, but she tends to end up sliding into another topic without thinking.

Merin’s part in Aiko’s journey comes mostly from her asking Aiko to write down things they need to remember for their adventures and from being quite the popular topic in Aiko’s personal ramblings. They’ve also come to use the diary as a way to talk indirectly when they aren’t able to find the right words while speaking face-to-face. (Imagine them sliding the notebook back and forth across the floor to each other after an argument bc they’re both too upset to look at one another LOL)

Viktor + Tähti

Viktor’s journal is actually just his sketchbook, which he occasionally writes important notes on. Otherwise, the book is filled with pictures and drawings rather than words. Viktor is also quite protective of his sketchbook (as any artist is) and doesn’t really like sharing it with others. He does, however, agree to write down some important things for Tähti and sometimes allows her to draw on some of the pages.

I like to think he later on upgrades to a digital tablet, where he’s able to have a proper catalogue of everything important he’s been able to learn during his adventure (similar to Jiminy’s journal) while also being able to use it for his art. iPad kid LMAO

And funny enough, I don’t think Merin or Tähti would be too keen on getting their own journals later on during their journey since they’ve gotten so used to their arrangement with the siblings.

And also for clarification, since I haven’t yet posted the earlier prompts, the reason the kiddos are sharing their journals in these specific pairs is due to them getting separated from each other in those pairs. Neither Merin nor Tähti had journals to begin with, so they just opted to use the ones Aiko and Victor had.

Also a fun little detail is that Shiro’s journal is purposely made to look similar to the book of prophecies.

The idea is still on the table. Same as the rest of the ESAU cast getting chat bots so people can have fun with those as well.

The lil side-blog of SS!Nezha is just a little fun thing I wanted to do on impulse cuz I found it cute.

Might potentially do a side-blog for ESAU!Macaque and VH!Wukong too. Cuz the main idea for those side-blogs was to show some slice of life stuff they do or think to make the characters, and other directly involved characters, shine more. :D

Tanned, big, brawny. Not like absolutely ripped. Idk why I always picture him with blonde hair for some reason. I'd also give him like a stubble (I tried drawing the fucker with a full beard but accidentally drew a certain fucking x men instead and immediately erased it), I picture him with a lot of scars as well. His head shape is more square and also strong jaw, I bet he kinda slouches too so bad posture. Wild shaggy hair that reaches his shoulder and green eyes. He has this droopy eyes that makes him look tired and straight brows so he looks tough in a sad way lmao. oh and maybe eyebags. Wears a winter coat with a tattered white shirt, black trousers and combat boots, idk why I rlly want him to wear a hat but I'm not sure what, maybe he ties his hair sometimes when hunting doe.

- Sydney

Twink. Just a slender dude. He's soft and squishy. Maybe to contrast it a little, he's a bit taller than average. ofc we know he has strawberry blonde hair and amber eyes (I think). Definitely more on soft boy. I've always pictured him with pale or fair skin. Low ponytail, no bangs, hair reaches to upper back, smooth and silky hair. Big, round, innocent eyes. I imagine when we go to a more corruption route, his eyes gets sultry and half-lidded quickly and maybe add a bit more muscle to his figure. I also picture him having something more deliberately messy like a wolfcut or layered hair. also I like the idea if he dyes the tip of his hair white for some reason. Straight posture but gets a little fruity when corrupted. Pure Syd wears a sweater vest, school blouse, a tie, long school trousers, and school shoes. Corrupt Syd wears an unbuttoned school blouse, long school trousers but I imagine he has those chain belts, and then combat boots (in winter, pure Syd wears peacoat but corrupt wears a hoodie n beanie) OH and ear piercings

Wet cat aesthetic. Slouches which makes him seem smaller than he already is. Green, wide-set eyes, looks scary as fuck if he staring at you in the dark. I wanna picture him having a bit of a chubby stomach bcs this fucker would suck at swimming and gym and also has a poor diet. Black wavy hair, looks fluffy and is short but it's so unevenly cut that it's obvious he cut it from frustration. Eyebags, some real dark circles. Gets sweaty easily so he always seem greasy even though he showers daily. In my playthrough, he's always set as dark skin so I picture having a cold, bronze colour. I find it so funny he carries a knife cause his clumsy ass would accidentally cut himself so some scars on his palms. I always see him wearing a hoodie, long trousers, and some normal school shoes. I think a game logo or somesort on hoodie would be a nice added detail bcs he goes to the arcade. Freckles :3. I always imagine he has some wild strength despite how he looks bcs he can carry PC to his house w ease and without getting caught like srsly idk how but the gap of it makes it attractive *twirls hair*

ex delinquent Sayuri, Satsuma knows about it and knows she can easily beat him up

masaru and chika are unaware about it and just think that their mom was in some kind of school club that involve fighting or something

This energized me for the day, so please have these doodles and a new AU/personal HC

So this is the Sayuri ex-Deliquent thing; my personal little HC for it is that she and Satsuma are actually childhood friends (neighbors, probably) and that Sayuri and Suguru met in school, and clashed heads (a lot like our two beloved boys in the modern era....) (thie little chibis of the main trio represent their mirror for the back in time AU trio) Rentarou (calling him by first name feels sacrilegious, but it feels even weirder if I don't bc I refer to the other two by first name LMAO) does have a crush on Sayuri, but it's the type of thing that passes/is dealt with as they get older, bc he respects her and Suguru. He is very very much the one that kinda reigns them both in, but also gets dragged along. Suguru is a doctor, which is why he's being deligated Smartie Pants role; after all, Touma is a genius but also loves to box and isn't a weakling, so I figure Suguru is similar. Suyuri is very rambunctious; I think she's not only a regular delinquent, but definitely one of those girls that don't want to be looked down on for being a girl. So she likes to be tough and fight like the boys, and she doesn't take it well when someone (coughcough Suguru coughcough) criticizes her because he means well- the only person she kinda listens to is Rentarou, because he's her childhood friend. Suguru is fairly polite, actually; he's not an overly violent guy and while strong and athletic, has a more passive personality where he tries to solve things with words. It's Sayuri that later changes that mindset a bit, and gets him to enjoy and see the merits of talking with one's fists LMAO (so a good influence!). Rentarou comes from a strict, law enforcement family and he is under a lot of pressure to do good; his family isn't fond of Sayuri given her delinquency, but they're friends and there is no stopping that. He often feels more refreshed and encouraged after spending time with her, which is one of the reasons he develops a crush on her. Suguru and Sayuri try to avoid each other, and get into fights and arguments nearly any time they DO see each other- but then they keep getting into silly shenanigans (with poor Rentarou dragged along one way or another) I kinda want them to find out abt Digimon around this time, but I'll delve into it later.

Sayuri is a little embarassed about her past? She was quite a bit worse than Masaru; yes he gets into street fights but he's also good about chores, caring for his sister and trying to do right by her- he doesn't skip as much school as she had, and usually she can find a valid reason why. Embarassment aside, she wasn't going to let Masaru tackle the world without knowing proper technique, and Suguru left too early to really teach him (but late enough to get him riled up, and you know Sayuri gave him an earful abt that when he came back LOL) She lets her kids believe whatever, not really ready to tell them she was a wild child herself. (Chika later finds out; Masaru does not and Chika is both excited she knows something Masaru doesn't know, but sad she can't share her findings, given they theorized about it) Sayuri of course chilled out and became softer as she got older, but it was mostly when she got her kids that she really calmed down. She wanted to be someone that they could tell mistakes to, who they could be honest with, etc etc., But when Masaru or Chika get out of line, there's a certain edge to her voice that definitely has their backs straightening. This is a really fun AU and I bet you weren't expecting me to want to delve into it but I 10/10 will. This is gripping me by the THROAT what have you DONE to me.

It's all old ass art so kinda wonky looking now in hindsight. I want to come back to them eventually as characters they're all silly. but especially Carp and Kess because they're the coolest. Blatant favoritism. The amount of lore and ideas I've come up with for those funny Quotev group chat ocs is terrifying and frankly quite disturbing. I do have more doodles of Kess than carp if you want to see those later, just ask. And i think a small animation but don't quote me on that. Sadly just not much of Carp itself. this one is based off that one tweet that says "some people really need a hug, a forehead kiss and a grilled cheese cut diagonally" and it really reminded me of Salesman Barry for some reason so here he is in a hugged, kissed and grilled-cheese-cut-diagonally-enjoying state :) (also that is a little love-heart shaped kiss mark on his forehead but it looks odd because of the angle i was drawing at lol. i should fix it maybe)

i did a couple of doodles of my hc Craig design too and updated his hair a bit to be more defined and less messy :D it kinds looks like some vaguely apple-shaped hairstyle now which i find oddly appealing. someone in the HB discord said that one of the scientists in the new 4th of July JJ2 art looked like Craig wearing a hawaiian shirt so behold.... a man

Magpie!! Oh my god! I wish I'd seen this sooner! Oooh! I have so much to say regarding their appearances. Although I'd definitely begin with, please still feel free to have creative freedom! I love seeing your art after posting chapters, whether the design is of your own or closer to mine, I absolutely adore it either way! So don't feel restricted by anything. You've definitely gotten it down to a T though haha When it comes to 'pointed ears, etc' there aren't actually any other sub-species/hybrids other than avians in this universe, as they are creations solely of the Watchers. Not to say people can't be born without little funky attributes such as those though! Grian and Pearl are twins here, so their appearances do resemble each others a lot. Such as the same hair colour, dirty blonde, and facial features. I am sorry to say that Grian unfortunately is not a glasses wearer in AMDB 😔 purely because of lore purposes and him being 'perfect' it wouldn't fit. I still love glasses Grian <33 Cuteguy right now simply dons a red hoodie and grey knee-length shorts. His 'void covering' is the consistency of a liquid and can change how much of his face is being covered. This will be spoken more on in future chapters! And I might have to come back to Cuteguy a little later as.. spoiler alert.. he will actually be getting a suit hahaha not stuck in those borrowed clothes forever. Oh no this is getting long... apologies 😭 Scar's clothes are pretty consistent, button up shirts (never fully buttoned) and whatever jeans work best lol. He's a simple artist. His hair is just a mess kinda.. lmao I've described it before to a friend as "He cuts his own hair, but he can't see the back so he just leaves it and hopes for the best." He's just left with a mullet that has a mind of its own. There's a very special detail about his accessories you'll find out in chapter 10 though 👀 EDIT: Oopsie.. coming back to make a little edit as I forgot to mention his scar placement!! He has a jagged one across his nose bridge, shorter on one side than the other. A large one down his jaw and extending to his throat a little. A cross, or in other words, the shape of an 'X' between his hair part on his forehead. Grian mentions this in ch6! And finally for visible ones, a large one resembling an explosion on his collarbone, back of neck and back. Across his body he has many overlaying each other as well. Some on his hands and espeically his palms/fingers. Basically you can give him as many or as less as you'd like hahaha Hawkeye, I didn't devle too much into his design! I wish I could explain more into him but that would be spoilers :( He has a lot coming for him. His main details are that he wears archer equipment: a quiver, chest guard, arm guard and glove! But his suit is pretty much just DDVAU inspired except no short-shorts since I'm going for less comedy aspect and more action style! Oh how I miss those short shorts lol The only key detail with Mumbo is his hair, it reaches about his collarbone. I call him the 'Hippie band guy' in my head because that's just how I picture him after the buttercups in S9 lmao If there's anything else you're curious about please ask away! And again, even with this info you are entirely able to just ignore it lol! I love seeing your art and even without the 'canon' designs I would love it just as much, if not more! In my headcanon era I guess! Lmao sure, I'll share some I have...though I feel like I just have more for byler in general because I'm spending most of my time in their characterization haha.

Even after everything is over, El is not all that talkative—she is very internal and thinks things over rather intently, though she is quite expressive while doing it. Will always jokes that he can see the wheels turning behind her eyes when she starts thinking really hard, which she doesn't really understand as a metaphor for thinking—until she sees Max do what Will described, and out loud says "I can see your wheels turning." Max, who knows that sounds absolutely nothing like something El would say herself, finds it hilarious when she finds out what prompted the phrase.

Despite being quiet, El deeply enjoys journaling out her thoughts and feelings, and slowly beings using them as a means to express herself artistically with paintings, doodles, and typography, given she is already rather crafty. (In a modern AU setting, I can see her watching tiktoks and youtube videos to learn how to do things in different techniques, along with learning about different markers and paints for her journals from Will). She doesn't think of them as "art," more a means of expression, but everyone around her (especially Joyce) thinks they're absolutely delightful.

El does not like Steve romantically, but she does think she would like someone who likes doing all the cute things with her that Mike often complained Steve wanted to do with girls (especially Nancy). The first time she admits this aloud, the entire party is shocked—but it becomes a running joke that (outside of him being gay) the reason it would never work between Mike & El is he's absolutely nothing like "her type" anyway.

Even after the battle for Hawkins is won, El continues to mindlessly run her thumbs over the back of Max's hands and across her palms when they're talking, because she did it while sitting beside her in the hospital when she was in a coma. The gesture becomes so comforting for the both of them after a while (especially now that Max can no longer see) that, (even years later) Max will ask El to "play with her hands" simply as a sign of presence, whether they’re in groups or sitting doing nothing.

In the process of integrating her lack of vision into their relationship, Lucas slowly starts describing everything around him in the most vivid details to Max, and reading everything from books to full menus aloud so she can know what's going on. The tendency becomes so familiar to him that when he hangs out with the party and other people, they have to remind him that no, he doesn't need to read the drink menu out loud as he's ordering. (Mike teases him the most out of all of the party for it, but he's actually the one who finds it most endearing, because he knows he would do exactly the same).

....I feel like I definitely have more, but those are a few! I hope you enjoy them. And also??? I guess Max not being able to see is a headcanon too. Add that to the list LMAO

hi hello internet!! i feel like ranting so here. A pokemon au :) or, well, this one is probably more so "alternate timeline" if you're familiar with the more intricacies of fandom language. (then again this IS tumblr) ANYWHO. the main jist is "hmm. what if the whole shit with the ultimate weapon actually did make the protag (calem in this case) immortal" but with some body horror twists because i can :) more specific details under the cut as i do not wish to bombard someone's dash with my autistic ramblings

So the AU is dubbed "The Curse of Fate". originally wished to go with "the curse of life" but that. i feel like that could get misinterpreted into something else so the curse of fate it is!! As mentioned before, the big major change is that Calem gets fuckin' BEAMED:tm: by the Ultimate Weapon underneath Geosenge Town because dude didn't get out fast enough. He wasn't in the vicinity, no. directly under it. (i will note that calem is 14-ish at the time in this AU, for future reference) After a few years of "everything is totally back to normal yup yup" he kind of realizes "oh shit i am not aging like a normal human boy this is fucked up man" and not wanting to watch his friends and family die around him, ( as well as not wanting the government to find out about his predicament) he decides that he will consciously go missing. a slow and vigorous process so it isn't too shocking. staying out later, contacting people less, the stuff. eventually he does do it, and leaves his hometown for good. he travels around for a bit, specifically to Paldea early on to purchase one of those portable box things so he doesn't have to go into pokemon centers. He is just. a forest goblin, basically. living off whatever he can find. trying his best not to be seen, especially in the earlier times. he gets a bit more cocky about going out in public as the years go on. always wearing a shit ton of layers because people don't pay much attention to you that way. and as it turns out, he really likes just observing things. he does eventually encounter AZ, and things are tense between them. calem feels like he's being lectured all the time about everything since it didn't take much for AZ to realize Calem's predicament AZ on the other hand is just trying to make sure Calem doesn't fuck things up for himself and is giving advice in. his. own kind of "how the fuck do i talk to people again" way. now one may wonder "hey where's the body horror" and that, my friend, comes in with this whole headcanonned string of logic. said logic being that the energy calem was zapped by was pure life energy. and any living being can only handle so much of this. so this energy needs to find a way to "escape" to bring one's body back to equilibrium. this being in the form of crystalized half-elipsoid formations appearing on calem. unfortunately, no idea quite yet on how it will develop past that. but a main "drive" for calem is to try and fix this before it causes irreversible damage. and that's the jist!!! there are. a lot more details but this post is already super long so if anybody wants another giant rant post uh. idk, tell me lmao. finally, here's calem's design!!!

i developed feelings for him that summer, but honestly i think i was denying it for a long time and just admitted it to myself then 😭 a lot of girls found him cute (i did too, when i first met him! but didn't entertain it then bc i had a thing with another guy for a bit (who i'm also still friends with today omg this is another story...)) but!! bc lots of girls were trying to talk to him, i wanted to make sure that i was talking to him out of genuine intent of wanting to be his friend!!

it's not a request or an attempt of shaking a free request out of you, so pls don't hit me with a stick good sir, but was this couple of doodles about wren trying on a mask and meeting dagoth ur in his dream just one-off for shits and giggles or a premise for a serious comic? looks intriguing ngl

It's a bit of both, I wanted to figure out a more concrete premise for how a quest in the mod would go down (which I've kind of abandoned for the time being for the sake of just a functional rounded out follower, quests and setting up the scenes the way I wanted to are kind of a bit too complex for me to handle atm) so it was more like structured storyboards. The quest in-game would go as such:

You finish Ashen Heart and pick up the mask.

The next time you sleep (with it in your inventory or you're wearing it) you have a dream in the text format similar to the werewolf one where you're in a cave similar to the Sixth House ones in MW or one of the strongholds, he wants his mask back and tells you as such. You can say yes or no, but you physically meet him later to actually give it to him (to trigger the follow conversation)

If you refuse to give him his mask, you suffer stat drain and can no longer get rest bonuses and have a drastically reduced disease resistance until you either take it to the temple or give it to him

If you give it to him, you get a prompt that leads to him assisting you, because he's bored and clearly those priests of his fucked up and he's annoyed about it (also he misses being so close and seeing the world, what with doing semi-godlike spirit stuff for the last 200 years and being in a volcano before that--thus kind of back to the original vacation idea lol (also also he could find someone to bestow the mask to again...but he won't tell you that))

...but also gave me the opportunity to expand on the GoTT quests and implications (if you wear the mask you hear the Song), which the quest would have been linked to, and was a neat concept to explore with Wren, specifically, given his prior experiences with everyone. The quest wouldn't have gone quite as smoothly with him because he would be more aggressive and awkward about...everything and would diverge from the questline for obvious reasons, but I think I might redo that as a 4 panel type thing with a bigger lean on it being comedic than the serious tone I was leaning into lmao

I usually make tea whenever I draw or play games but I get so focused on what I’m doing that I ALWAYS forget to drink it. I will literally take one sip right before I dive into my work and then not touch it at all until MUCH later LOL that’s why I had to get myself one of those bottles that keeps your drink warm for like 12 hrs. I still will absolutely forget it but at least it’s still lukewarm by the time I remember :’)

18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken

Hmmm I mainly do digital art and thankfully I don’t break much of that (except some worn down pen nibs and a horribly frayed wire on my first drawing tablet), but I totally decimated one of my posable figma models bc I tried to bend the limbs too far and they snapped off...she lost an arm and both legs.........

the mangekyo is classic kishimoto. he needed a cool powerup thats the explanation, you can clearly tell he was just doodling cool eye design and came up with an excuse later. the mangekyo isn't from killing someone its from the grief of someone you love dearly dying, because the uchiha are the clan of emotion (the one consistency in the manga). all sharingan upgrades are from intense emotions. and mangekyo only unlocks with the most intense emotion: grief. there's plenty of uchiha that awakened it even if they didn't directly kill their loved one. anyways the explanation is that the intense emotion causes a chakra reaction in the brain that causes their eyes to change. see the secret is that naruto is 95% bullshit like this. mangekyo sharingan is a great example of the phenomena.

i hate this explanation so much. special brain chakra... and then the mangekyo is a more extreme version requiring even stronger emotions. the sharingan doesn't normally develop over time. it requires the intense emotions to level up and it just so happens that putting child soldiers in a war in life or death situations where most of their friends and family die tends to meet those requirements.

im rotating the fire lightning sasuke chakra affinity debate in my head. Sasuke's shown talent with both making giant fireballs in like a week and a small one on his first try and lightning chidori in a month. He uses a mix of fire and lighting jutsu. So theres no strong evidence in either those two points that tilts the scales. His mangekyo sharingan is the most unique and personal of his skills and ameterasu (sun goddess) is a fire skill. This is probably the strongest evidence that he's fire affinity. His clan's specialty is fire. On the lighting side is how he's a reincarnation of indra, indra irl the hindu god of the sky (indoeuropean sky father diety thik odin or zeus) so theres a strong association with lightning there, most of the jutsu sasuke's created has been lightning too like kirin or the sword thing.

Finishing up the naruto manga and i have to say sauce-gay is the worst at thinking, truly not a single thought rattling around in there only murder. When naruto is the brains reasoning side of thia fight, you should knkw you've messed up. Im going to kill itachi -> im going to kill everyone in konoha -> im going to kill the kages just because -> save the world teehee -> jk lmao back to killing all the kages, bijuu, and ofc naruto.

One thing i find interesting about the third hokage hiruzen is how his belief in the good in others causes so many problems. Hiruzen believes so strongly in people being their best selves than he will overlook anything and everything and do nothing about problems because he thinks those problems will fix themselves. Danzo and orochimaru are great examples of this. Danzo: betrays hiruzen Hiruzen: thats ok you care about konoha Danzo: tries to throw a coup Hiruzen: thats ok you care about konoha Danzo: betrays hirizen again Hiruzen: thats ok you care about konoha Danzo: kidnaps and tortures children Hiruzen: thats ok you care about konoha Danzo: genocides the uchiha clan Hiruzen: slap on the wrist. Really the whole uchiha affair was very indicative hiruzens personality and leadership style. He makes attempts at dialogue but makes 0 policy changes to back up his words or address the grievances of the uchiha. Because he believes it will all work out in the end, the fugaku and the uchiha are good people and a part of konoha so of course hiruzen doesnt actually need to take any action or need to demonstrate that the uchiha that they are a part of konoha. I think in any other job hiruzen would have just been the kindly old man and a good person but because he was in a leadership position where his negligence and willingness to believe the best in people, he was complicit in just a lot of evil like all the torturing kids wow.

The konoha leadership or the narrative potential of it i find very interesting. But thats mostly because i like political dramas. I would happily read a political drama about all the factionalism and clan politics of konoha and probably like it better than the actual series. All the hokages and leadership end up a bit morally ambiguous. On the pretty clearly evil but does have a couple points is danzo who was right how sometimes sacrifices must be made but his vision of konoha was so tied up in his own ego. His foal was what was best for konoha but what he saw as best for konoha oh so conveniently placed him in a position of unilateral total power. And thus anything he did to advanced his own position also in his mind advanced the interest of konoha. On the other end is hashirama who did so a lot to end violence and brokered a lot of peace agreements and instead of 6 year olds he was only sending out 10 year olds to for die for their nation. Progress. And he also went and enslaved the bijuu as war weapons. And rhen theres tobirama who invented public education but also zombies, encoded factionalism into law and isolated the uchiha his clan's rival clan (and we all know how well than ended up).

Back to political drama. Boruto seems really bad like really really bad and i don't think it should have been made at all. But if the premises were to be salvaged i think the best way would be to make it a work comedy/political drama/midlife crisis story geared toward struggling 40 year olds. Of course this would never sell which is why they didnt do it. But you could really revel in the mess of things. Stressed out, overworked, marriage in shambles, dreams all crumbled to dust. Like naruto and hinata married at 19 and had a kid at 20. Yikes slow down. A more interesting take would have been that naruto didnt particularly want to marry hinata but wanted all the things that came with it. Naruto's a people pleaser this is canon, and hinata loves him unconditionally and fiercely in a way he has no reference for so of course he loves her back and wants her to be happy. Naruto is nice like that. He alao has little references for healthy marriages. He wants to be happy, he wants to be loved, he wants a normal family, he wants kids. And you know the hyuuga clan was putting on the pressure. Town hero and future hokage? Oh they are jumping on that. And he likes being with hinata but the pressures getting to him and the job is getting to him, he's wanted this for so long so of course he has to push himself. But he's unhappy and desperately in denial that he is unhappy because he has everything he's ever wanted what could be wrong.

... boruto (the kid) is a boomer. Like a literal post war baby boom

A lot of people were mad at that kishimoto decided to put a war in naruto and im not. The writing is bad but a lot of the writing in naruto is bad..i dont hate the concept because war is a reoccurring theme in naruto. The last continent wide war was a little over 15 years ago so all the adult characters are traumatized by it. Their society is geared towards perpetual war and the constant imminent of threat of war drives the politics of all the nations. And the 4th shinobi war does continues the main themes of Naruto. Because the contingent is caught in a cycle pain and hurt where wars are waged against each other but finally they arent fighting each other they are fighting with each other, they break that cycle. This ties in with the other theme that people cant do things alone (nagato, itachi, madara, obito), people are stronger together (naruto, the allied shinobi force). The "with all our power combined" thing is heavy handed but eh naruto isnt a good series. Ninja war had parts that were very good and them a whole lot of filler inbetween. Pacing was bad.

Contrast this with bnha (which im currently reading) which overall is a better series with better writing but unlike naruto, bnha did not have those underlying themes of war so its was arc is more out of place. In some ways bnha is more political especially in the social justice sense. The dynamic between those with and without quirks in particular i find interesting. In that when quirks first appeared those with them were heavily discriminated against. The term "quirk" itself in universe was an act of early quirk activism. And to this day those with very visually noticeable quirks or bodies that look different are discriminated against in the same society where now a quirkless kid will get bullied for not having a quirk. Those who are oppressed are not innocent of never further the oppression of others. Like irish americans becoming cops
