Comparing livestock color-words.
Both the Chenahyeigi and Wardi languages are derived from peoples who have been pastoralists for millennia, and both have an absolute ton of words for livestock coloration.
Both languages have had at least some mutual influence for about a thousand years (to varying extents by dialect, depending on geography/trade connection) so you'll see similar or identical words crop up here and there.
THE WORDS:
Hneya - [hne:ʝɑ] or [hne:jɑ] (whether the ʝ sound is retained in speech and to what extent varies by dialect)
Straightforwardly refers to bright reddish-orange color, but is mostly used for animals rather than other orangeish things. The word Was probably influenced by an older form of the Wardi 'reyla', and absorbed with the introduction of orange colored cattle. It may have been merged with the Chenahyeigi '(h)ne', which is the root of several red color-related terms.
Reyla - [rejlɑ]
This is a Wardi word for most reddish-orange hues in general. When applied to livestock, it refers to solid orange coats without spotting/masks/notable countershading.
Fels akhri - [fels] [ɑ:khɾi]
Translates readily as 'storm cloud' (the 'storm' here specifies thunderstorms). When applied to livestock, it describes fur that is rich dark blue-gray with white guard hairs.
Aganne - [ɑgɑ:ne]
This doesn't actually translate to 'night sea' in a straightforward manner, but as a color word it's poetically associated with dark seas, at night or in storms. When used for livestock, it describes this coloration exclusively.
Woud et lleng - [woʊd] [ɛt] [ɬeŋk]
Woud is the word for rich moist soil specifically, lleng refers to laterite and its association with iron deposits. This phrase is used to describe livestock with dark brown heads and and orange-brown bodies.
Tsipanibe - [t͡sipɑnibe]
This would be more literally translated as 'ochred'. Many Wardi words with the -ibe stem from verbs or nouns modified to indicate that the subject matter has 'received' an action or concept. (Examples of such words are long-established linguistically, you can't just add '-ibe' to any noun or verb). This one takes the root 'tsipan' (ochre) and applies it to the subject matter (cattle coloration).
Livestock with a dark brown or black head and orange-brown body are given this description, the idea being that their bodies look like they've been painted in ochre. This word is extremely rare outside of this context (you would usually just say the full 'ochre-painted' to convey this idea for other things)
Drengh yipeg - [dɾeŋg(h) yɪpɛ:g]
This is pretty straightforwardly 'little moon'. Yipeg comes from the same root as the Wardi 'hippe' for 'small', while drengh refers to the appearance of the moons in the sky (rather than the gods they embody). It's used to describe small round white blaze marks.
Ipalen hamita - [ipɑlɛn (h)ɑmitə]
Straightforwardly 'star marked', used for small round white blaze marks. Wardi actually does have a 'moon marked' (ipalen amit) to describe round white blazes that entirely cover the animal's forehead.
Brinyavir - [bɾi:nʝɑvir] (ʝ is retained for this word in most dialects)
This one is not directly translatable, 'celestial' or 'heavenly' just function closely enough. The word conceptually relates to stars but most specifically describes a layer of sky in which the afterlife rests (brinyavir is part of the phrase I translate as 'celestial fields'). The cattle there are said to have these markings. The stars in the night sky are sometimes playfully described as the spots of these cattle (though not literally, in Chenahyeigi cosmology stars are spirit-inhabited bonfires lit along pathways through the heavens).
As a color word for livestock, brinyavir refers to this rare (I Think nonexistent irl) white-spotted black coloration, due to both resembling the stars and the cattle that are moved among them.
Asi inwetadi - [ɑsi in:wetɑ:di]
This directly means 'like night sky', and is applied to this coat pattern with a similar underlying logic- it looks like a starry night sky. You will often see asi (like/akin to) retained in place or animal names like this, and it is sometimes part of names for people (the name Asinya is derived from a contracted 'like the sun').
Ogriye - Chenahyeigi: [oʊ:gɾije] Wardi: [oʊgɾi:je]
This word is (or was) a way to say 'gravel' or 'gravelly' in both Chenahyeigi and Wardi, and is pronounced very similarly in both (with the only significant difference being emphasis)
In Chenahyeigi it is a loanword from the Wardi language family, most likely received in the exchange of cattle of this coloration. It is retained in general speech as a word for gravel, more specifically the adjective 'gravelly'.
The word is mostly obsolete in contemporary Wardi, speakers do not know it used to mean 'gravel' (though it sounds close enough to assume a connection, the word is 'ogri') and exclusively use it to describe this livestock coloration (one of the more common among Wardi native cattle).
---
Also here's some cow lore.
There's some fairly tremendous diversity in Wardi cattle herds, given they have genetic influence from at least two separate aurochs domestication events (also distant and negligibly minor influence from one instance of bison domestication) and from multiple relatively isolated domestic cattle populations. Present day herds within Wardi provincial territory near-ubiquitously have at least some ancestry from the kulustaig and the Burri tepang cattle.
The ancestors of the Wardi native cow have been in the region for at Least 5,000 years. Burri cattle Possibly could have had tiny, isolated introductions between 2500-3000 years ago (this is extremely unlikely, but maize Was probably introduced by seafaring proto-Burri peoples at this time) or at more recent points since, and the tepang was certainly introduced during Imperial Burri occupation. High quality cattle are also occasionally received in diplomacy with the present-day Different Entity that is the Burri Republic. The kulustaig cattle arrived with proto-Finnic migrants starting 1500 years ago, and is the biggest external genetic influence on Wardi herds. Small populations of Yuroma native cattle arrived with migrants 540 years ago, though these have been wholly absorbed into Wardi herds, with their biggest trace being genes for naturally polled horns. Some Finn cattle were extracted in the recent two decades of Wardi occupation, though not enough to have a noteworthy genetic impact on any herds.
Most of the cattle in this post show predominantly Wardi native cattle + kulustaig ancestry (this takes place in the Ephenni riverlands, where the ancestry of herds tends to be around 2:1). The one with the blaze has a delicate sloping muzzle that suggests Burri tepang ancestry, and also likely has a wild aurochs grandparent (the white ring around the nose is a telltale sign, as it usually vanishes within a few generations of introgression).
Diversity in color and coat pattern is culturally favored for Wardi cattle herds, and selective breeding for aesthetics is usually limited to the purpose of preserving unique coats. The average herd tends to be very colorful, though the one shown here is a bit of an outlier, the universe having mysteriously put in place perfect conditions to compare the words for a variety of coat patterns.
#My marginal comprehension of the IPA has advanced somewhat. For those who don't know : indicates the vowel/consonant beforehand#is long and () means a sound is marginal/optional/not articulated#The 'h's you see at the end of a lot of Chenahyeigi words are usually soft unvoiced exhalations and very subtle#It's part of the accent but not doing it doesn't change the meaning of the word in most cases#The Wardi language has a tendency of dropping H sounds at the beginnings of words over time/in certain dialects#(especially when followed by the [i] vowel. A lot of people pronounce hippegalga as just ippegalga) and in a lot of words#pronunciation of leading H's is essentially optional#One aspect of Wardi formal register is always enunciating these droppable H's

"dude its not that embarassing to rewatch some creepypasta stuff you liked as a teenager" the character i imprinted on like a baby duck at 16 was a demon from new jersey that acts like the humanization of every offspring song and canonically listens to scissor sisters. His favorite color is purple and his favorite pokemon are gengar and haunter. His favorite candy is reeses cups. He leaves people notes with emojis on them. He acts like a beetlejuice scare actor at halloween horror nights. His catchphrase is "feeling sassy?" Hes (allegedly) worked with every war criminal throughout history and been every serial killer. even the gay ones. He ate a baby. His animal motif is a rabbit. Hes kind of based off the donnie darko rabbit. He almost exclusively wears merchandise of the quentin tarantino movie death proof. He talks to his cats in a baby voice. He wears a white fedora that makes every video he wears it in feel dated by like 7 years. Hes 5'3. Sometimes he barks like a dog. Hes from new jersey. He hacked a girls tumblr blog so he could post about how awesome he is. He added a laugh track over a video of him killing people. He named a chainsaw rex. He torments people by playing frank sinatra at them. His name comes from an animal collective song. His creator drew his "true form" as a giant buff wolf bug anthro. Theres a (semi)canon blog entry where he makes the speakers blare rob zombie before he enters a room, then holds a guy at gunpoint to describe what he did to to him while "making sure to leave in all the cool parts". The guy hes possessing has radioactive blood. He tried for 2 whole minutes to pick up a bottle of ketchup with a grabby hand. Hes kind of suicidal. He can be reasonably compared to pretty much every major tumblr sexyman. His actor has gone on record saying heath ledgers joker inspired his acting choices. His creators were too attached to him to permanently kill him at the end of the series. Sometimes his voice gets distorted and it makes him sound like bill ciphers first year on HRT. Hes basically like my artistic muse. For some fucking reason i associate the song cake by the ocean with him. I firmly believe that if everymanhybrid didn't require a masters degree in creepypasta autism to comprehend, he would've caused more teenage stabbings than the slenderman incident and more kin war tumblr scenarios than nagito komaeda.
#slenderverse#everymanhybrid#emh#speakeasies#emh habit#habit everymanhybrid#habit emh#and the problem is that every new fan of the series is like#teenagers who like columbine#so i cant even make friends in those circles#because im fucking 24#like im almost ten years older than some of u omfg???#so#he IS that embarassing and thank GOD emh is niche#okay so#he is embarassing but emh is not embarassing it is not cringe its oomf#emh is genuinley one of the coolest found footage diy low budget horrors ive ever seen#genuinely would love to make found footage bc of the impact it had on me#anyway i really did imprint on him like a babyduck#i was a baby trans guy that didnt know it yet rewatching the :D video with absolutely nobody to talk about it with#like huh hope that doesn't affect me in the future :)#it did#spoiler 17 yo me thats why you watched :D three times in secret#it's not because you're trans. and another thing!!!
"doesn't rtd understand this show is about change?"
no? no, he clearly doesn't and he never has. his ideal doctor who is rose tyler (lbr his mary-sue, because however much i am told not to use that term she clearly is one) and a doctor that looks like david tennant and everything else is Wrong and we must constantly be told that. 10 "mourning" rose that much is not in-character, actually, it is not an unavoidable issue, it's a deliberate writing choice to Not Let Go of rtd's one true companion. so martha jones gets fucked over (again, a choice was made to focus on her love for the doctor and how he could never ever want her), and rtd doesn't care and neither did the fandom because they too thought that rose being gone was a glitch to be fixed. because rtd fucking encouraged them to.
so rose is somehow in s3 even though she isn't, and then she's back in s4 where she is given a man who looks like david tennant. to look after. and 'heal'. (aside: no, the 9th doctor was healed by running into people and things that made him confront the past. rose was just a nice distraction for him between those brief therapy sessions. yet she's given the credit for them. because of course the one true companion must have done that!)
and then when he has to write out david tennant... *sigh* off we go to see rose fucking tyler again after spending the rest of our time being sad about not being david tennant anymore, and he goes out COMPLAINING that he can't face not being david tennant in the tardis with rose "russell t" tyler. and then you wonder why people stopped watching at that point? you wonder why they still complain about the eleventh doctor not being david tennant? they were told to!
and then rtd comes back. and so does david tennant. and... yes we can all see where this is going HOW DID YOU NOT? rtd has never been willing to move on and accept change. he hates having to change things in doctor who. this has been obvious since 2007. but fandom liked martha being fucked over in the name of rose-and-david-tenannt so they just ignored it.
#dw#god i have been SITTING ON THIS for YEARS this is so fuckign cathartic lol#to me (you'll hate this...) the moffat era fixed a lot of things the rtd era broke and i liked that. moffat saved this show and he did#move it the fuck on and yeah i do think some of his choices were direct answers to things rtd did. even though i pretend not to.#because that's a bit conspiracy theory isn't it?#but oh my god when clara oswald just straight up turned on eleven and REFUSED to compete with a ghost! *swoons*#when clara refused to let the doctor wipe her memory 'for her own good!'#there's an essay in my head i've never actually typed out about how fandom is stupid about moffat doctor's scaring off the baddy#EXCEPT in the eleventh hour where the point is that eleven can indeed lay claim to ten's reputation. this is HIS past. he did those things.#and after the absolute fucking shitshow of tennant's (umpteenth) regeneration that was needed. a statement is being made.#that this is doctor who even though - gasp! - things have changed around here. even though we have Not Rose and Not David Tennant.#but okay sure let's pretend rtd has *ever* understood that change is an essential part of doctor who.#*breathes* holy fuck i am glad that's out.

One thing I love about people who are more frum than me is that two minutes after havdalah has seen shabbos away, they're sending you texts, emails, phone calls and it's like clockwork! I find it funny but more than that, I think it's iconic
#jumblr#meme#personal thoughts tag#happened just earlier because the frum-er lady at shul needs a ride and i'm her taxi :3#i love it because obviously that's a normal thing to do after shabbos#however i just like how much focus there is on shabbos. and of course that happens!#but shabbos... it's so ancient and the people today who observe shabbos#they're observing it similarly enough that they're essentially doing it with almost thousands of years worth of people#do other people like to think about that? i lit chanukah candles like a thousnad years' worth of OTHER PEOPLE and that's so special to me#i'm alone in my practices in my family. almost in my town. but i wasn't alone when i lit those candles#i love frum jews!!#i admire the sheer commitment and LOVE that it takes to be as frum as some people are#i hope that any frum jew who follows me and sees this or just stumbles on it knows they are LOVED#they are love and they are LOVED

Gold is often connected to divinity in rl religions. In Buddhism, it indeed symbolizes enlightenment and such, and it is often kept pure in order to not ruin its brilliance. In Tibetan Buddhism, statues are gilded with it and the 5 tonne Golden Buddha statue in Thailand is composed of 18 karat gold, almost fully pure.
Within this world, I like to think that gold has caught the eye of the Anemons in a religious sense upon the (,,re/")discovery of the Void Sea. The golden waves of it shaped the perception of their world, from explaining the sun as coated in a layer of Void, to giving an idea of what "cleanliness of soul" should look like. Wheel Flowers are also attributed to the Void as sprouts of it, because of their ethereal gold coloration.
The feeling of the divine has however faded when the motivations behind handling of the Void went terribly south, replaced by the extremist corruption and greed of High castes.
In other words, I wanted an excuse to draw Euros as a šarkan/змей.

the thing about bad buddy is that calling it enemies to lovers is not entirely wrong and is a very succinct and easy way to indicate the general plot, but also one of the only moments that the two main characters are actually personally in conflict with each other lasts about four minutes and is expressed mainly through upset shirtless xylophone playing contrasted with a montage of happy moments that features a time there was triumphant shirt-wearing xylophone playing. and then they both say sorry at literally the exact same time
#which as it turns out is EXACTLY how i want my enemies to lovers plots by the way. there is literally no way to beat this#if anything it's. enemies (through circumstance. unwillingly) to lovers (by choice. enthusiastically)#*#bad buddy#bad buddy the series#edit. actually ALSO worth noting that even this brief xylophone-expressed conflict only happens because of their differing views#on how to deal with outside influences on their relationship. which is doing just fine except for those pressures from around them#and then it's RESOLVED by pran going yeah i worry about people finding out but i care about you more#essentially already stating the whole final we can't change the world but that doesn't mean we have to let the world change us thing#and fjdkfj. yeah i'll stop adding tags now. ridiculous how wildly rewatchable a show is that at first glance seems so low on plot

i am someone who is overall pretty happy with the niche i’ve carved out for myself as an educator and a dramaturg who directs (or, a dramaturgy-driven director); i was never really good at generating original work which is why while i am so proud of how i threw myself into poetry as an undergrad i had the sensibility to realize that the need to generate is not something that is ingrained in me and thus i didn’t want to pursue that line of creative work; when it comes to playwriting i feel very similarly in that i don’t feel it is my calling or something that drives me the way that being part of a collective (or facilitating the formation of a collective) does; but 'deed i do just have a few stories in me bursting at the seams that i need to get out
#i love what i do and i love teaching and i love dramaturging because i love being part of an ensemble in that sense#when it comes to the writing part of my creative work i think i have about five plays in me and they are all essentially about the same#thing despite the WILD difference in overt subject matter and what makes me passionate about those projects is the fact that i feel them so#deeply that i think they are inherently worthy of writing#if any of that makes any sense

“You’re going to blow out your arms,” the villain observed. They watched as the hero merely grit their teeth, shoving themself through another pull-up. It looked painful, and if the sweat slicking the hero’s brow was any indication, it was.
They waited for the hero to let themself drop from the bar and accept the villain was stronger. But they didn’t.
Three more pull-ups, and the villain stepped in.
“Hero,” they said slowly. “You’re about to tear the ligaments in your arms. You need to stop.”
The hero blew out a shuddering breath. Struggled for purchase, fighting gravity—and let themself drop.
The hero’s hands were bleeding, calluses torn open by the bar. The hero didn’t seem bothered when their own hands shook so much that their blood began to splatter on the gym floor.
For a moment, the villain could only stare at them.
Shit.
They didn’t know how to handle this. They knew the hero was dedicated. They knew the hero was strong, and perpetually trying to be stronger, but they hadn’t thought…
They hadn’t thought the hero would be so willing to tear apart their own body for success.
It was supposed to be fun, the villain thought. They felt a little sick as the hero pressed their palms together to soothe the bleeding, an action that was practiced and familiar. As if they had done this before.
The hero reached for something in their bag, smearing blood on the side, and pulled out a roll of blue electrical tape. The villain didn’t understand why, until the hero tore a strip off and made to wrap their hands with it.
The hero would be the death of them.
They crouched in front of the hero, plucking the electrical tape out of their hands.
“What are you doing with this?”
The hero blinked at the villain like they were the strange one in this situation.
“Wrapping my hands?”
The villain hissed in a breath.
“With electrical tape?”
The hero flushed slightly, looking down at their bloody hands. They looked close to tears.
“It…sticks to skin, really well. And it doesn’t move, either, when you move your hands or wherever else, even if you’re fighting. Plus, blood doesn’t make it come off, at least, not for a while.”
The villain blinked at them.”
“Blood doesn’t make it come off,” the villain repeated, processing. The hero nodded, reaching for the electrical tape. The villain settled it out of reach.
“Not if you wrap it right.”
Dimly, the villain realized that meant the hero had done this enough times to have it down to a science.
“And you couldn’t use a bandaid?” The villain asked incredulously. The hero shrugged a shoulder, then winced at the motion.
Yeah, the hero had absolutely blown out their arms.
“Bandaids move—“
The villain hushed them.
“Be quiet for a second.”
The hero, wisely, went quiet.
The villain rubbed a hand over their face, then studied the hero for a moment. They took one of the hero’s hands into their own, studying the damage.
“Why did you do this to yourself,” the villain murmured.
“What do you mean, why,” the hero snapped. “It’s my job.”
“Your job is to save people,” the villain corrected. “Not destroy yourself.”
“I’m not destroying myself—“
“You are.”
“Shut up—“
“Hero.”
“I need to be better,” the hero snapped. Their voice rang out across the gym, echoing into the rafters, and they both froze. After a moment, the hero spoke again, voice soft. “I need to be better.”
They said it like they needed the villain to understand. The villain wondered who they were really saying it to—the villain, or themself.
“Better than who?”
“Everyone.” It was hushed, like a secret.
The villain watched them, waiting.
The hero took a shaky breath
“My whole thing is being the best. I have always been the best. That’s the only reason I matter. If I’m not strong enough, then I am nothing, so I need. to be. better.”
The hero had started crying, very quietly, like they were afraid to take up too much space.
The villain was not equipped to handle gifted kid burnout.
“There’s more to you than just being a good athlete,” the villain said hesitantly, and the hero shook their head.
“No. There isn’t.”
“Hero.”
“Can you give me back my electrical tape?” They hiccuped to contain a sob.
“No,” the villain said firmly, and then the hero really was sobbing.
“You don’t understand—“
The villain didn’t. Not really. They had never been the kind of talented that the hero was.
They wondered now if maybe that was a blessing.
“I don’t,” the villain agreed. “But I do understand that you’ve saved half the city, and you give everything you have to give, and you always do your best.”
“But I-“
“No.” The villain stopped them. “You are doing your best.” They tipped the hero’s chin up until they met the villain’s eyes. “And it is enough.”
The hero froze, eyes darting over the villain’s face. They wondered if anyone had ever said that to the hero, if whatever mentor they had was giving them anything other than orders to be stronger. Be better. Be more.
The villain had some new targets to take care of, it would seem.
For now, though, they had to take care of hero.
“We’re going to go wrap your hands,” they said softly. “And then we’re going to take care of your arms, and you’re going to take a nap.”
The hero nodded, watching them like they were some kind of good, selfless person.
“And if I ever catch you using electrical tape again, so help me, I will put you six feet under.”
That startled a laugh out of the hero, and they let the villain guide them to their feet.
“Fine.”
The villain turned to them. “Okay?”
Are you going to be alright?
The hero seemed to understand.
“Okay,” the hero agreed.
Yes.
And so, it was.
#writing#writing community#snippet#angst#heroes and villains#ficlet#writblr#hero/villain#hero whumpee#exhaustion#overworked#villain caretaker#whump#kind of#in case you’re wondering. yes you CAN do this to yourself. it’s completely possible#essentially what happens is if you do a motion (a pull-up) more than your body is capable#it gets mad. this is different from training till failure. this is to failure and then beyond#so while you started using the correct muscle groups you those muscles get tired and despite the tired you don’t stop#so then your body switches to muscles it SHOULDNT BE USINF and then you fuck up your elbows (in the case of pull-ups)#and then you can’t straighten your arms for a week bc the ligaments and tendons and all the little movement parts want to keep it curled in#I’m not a doctor#I’m just a gifted kid who was an athlete who got burnt out and destroyed her body lmao#this is possibly maybe based on true events that occurred#anyways. Okay, I am curious about your interpretation of the husbandry au
Do they talk? Are they still more autonomous? Is there a language barrier?
I see so many diff interpretations so I am curious
But pls do give Nacht more scritches
My interpretation of the husbandry au is like. Mainly comedy based? I like it when the legions have little behaviours that are kind of "stereotypical" of their legions. They might repeat a few words but don't have language of their own. They're like.... very intelligent parrots to me but still come with some more animal like behaviours. Obviously Sev is very intelligent, helps on the rescue and understands when he's being spoken to/about. Night Haunter is a little more... fuzzy and disassociated in his thought processes at the moment. It makes sense to me, and hopefully it makes sense to you. These are big beasties- likely former military projects refitted for consumers to turn a profit.
And no, I'm not doing smut with this au- obviously everyone can do what they want forever, but I'm not doin' it. I prefer more comedy takes in my astartes husbandry au
#warhammer 40k#wh40k#space marine husbandry#second disclaimer of: i am not looking down on those who do write smut for smh#i salute my fellow perverts and wish you well#as i discussed with grey- thinking about aus as the various dreams of the characters#this is essentially their pet play au#get looked after you huge soppy bastard#get petted and smoothed

Got on a bit of a spin thinking about why it is that fantasy, and horror is my wheelhouse, and what I landed on was thinking about how it's kind of all metaphor.
Not in the sense of "the elves are actually about racism", but a little more basal.
This got kicked off by my boyfriend showing me a post about necromancers by @prokopetz and it set me off on, "yeah, it kind of all is that way" because bluntly spoken, a necromancer isn't real. Even in terms of rigidly factual history, the kind of people who have claimed to be necromancers or even what the word "necromancer" meant has a thousand different variations and those things bleed into pop culture because pop culture is just the newest form of us telling stories which we've been doing since we were even marginally recognizable as humans.
Every monster, every wizard, every kind of magic, ultimately comes from within our imagination. What makes a rude or disrespectful person? Is evil personal, or abstract? These things are autobiographical- not that you can read them easily from without, as it's all mulched and digested darn dense before someone starts playing around with their imagination and said play takes place firmly in the realm of conscious decision where they can choose to say anything they want.
But I can't separate, say, my fascination in medicine, from being a child and the adults that introduced me to the concept of care and needing and vulnerability. Doctor tools were presented as something very cool or at least wielded sympathetically by people who wanted to help me. That's shaped so much of how I view healers and depict them in fiction. When we are understandably scared of pain and decay, they are also mundane and ordinary parts of our lives that everyone must manage to some degree, and that some people make an entire calling out of managing.
So to bring this back to necromancers, there's this whole angle to me that a bad guy necromancer is similar to an evil doctor- a character that is first and foremost betraying what their field 'ought' to stand for and that's what makes them extra bad. This is different from a lot of common assumptions that the only reason a guy would be fooling with dead bodies would be bad ones. Like clowns, they are "traditionally villainous" so not everyone is going to view them as a betrayal, but when you think about it, "good clown" is the default state actually- they're entertainers! And similarly, the kind of people who handle the dead in our society can be quite heroic- I recall a youtube interview with a mortician stating that a big motivation for his job was that he was in a unique position to help people through what is inevitably a rough patch.
And this is just the emotional side of things, rather than, say, epidemiology and medical studies or even just the base sense of sanitation and propriety that means any living society has to handle its dead.
And all of this, while profound to me, is in fact optional! Necromancers aren't real. What that word means is going to be different to anyone- just like "vampire", or "dragon" or "hero", these things are little bits of pH tester paper we can stick in our subconscious to see what connections we've made in there.
And I think that's super freaking cool.
#jupiter jabber#long post#writing ruminations#related to my endless dislike of “it's not that deep”#everything is actually exactly as deep as you want to dig#you just have to be careful that if you're going spelunking you aren't putting fake dinosaur bones in there for yourself to find#which is a completely different problem from 'is it that deep or not'#like fun party game: gather you and some buddies that are into it#and ask everybody what is the essential trait a vampire has to have#before they might as well not be a vampire#and listen to how much those answers do or don't vary

i havent been into tog in like 4-5ish years but one thing that really bothered me when i was into it was the whole simp bam thing idk. i think people need to stop seeing rachel and bam as exes and start seeing them as mother figure and son. yes even though they look/act somewhat close in age. like i mean quite literally she raised him and taught him everything he knew up until the point he entered the tower. even his kindness was taught to him by rachel even after every horrible thing she's done. yes this is even though she looks more like his older sister. i feel like her youth/youthful appearance is intentional (at least to me) since irl girls and women are also forced into motherly roles much younger than theyre ready for
#also the way that shes essentially supposed to put aside all her ambitions aside so bam can be the hero of the story is so heavily -#reminiscient of how mothers/pregnant people are supposed to put aside their goals and their glory for the sake of their child#and sometimes that child wasnt really a choice that the mother had in the first place#but they were nevertheless expected to put aside their health their life their goals their glory#aside for the sake of the baby/fetus. i remember a few years back a work of art that really stuck with me was of a knight asked to -#carry her fetus to term because that child will one day become great and she says “what about me? what of my glory?” and i fucking cried -#like a little baby. anyway i think its stated/heavily implied that rachel didnt have a choice at all in raising bam in that cave and shes#constantly told by those around her - by the first thing she sees in the tower#you are not important. your ambition does not matter -#only the boy you were forced to raise matters in this story - he's everything you wanted to be and everything you were forced to give up#and thats just so devastating to me. obviously im not trying to say she isnt a terrible person#or try to absolve her of the things she did (i mean also. its the fucking tower its the betrayal building what did you expect)#but also the complete lack of understanding of her and bam's relationship and complete insensitivity to her situation#at least from the fandom that was active in 2020-2021 really fucking bothers me.#idk man its been a while#tower of god#rachel tower of god#tower of god rachel#rachel tog#the 25th bam#also if the fandom now is like. really different from what i remember im sorry for like. yapping about this shit to you guys#anyway rachel my specialest girl i stand with my cancelled wife (she deserves some of the backlash but i stand with her anyway)#tog#25th bam

Jon and Martin would not have kids they would not start a family ever. Which part of "but we wouldn't have. Been together, I mean" do you not understand???
#randomly thought about it#yeah i get it those aus where jon and martin end up in a cute little cottage somewhere else and raise a child together are soo adorable#or whatever#but like. they would not have done that in a thousand years#its just throwing away two hundred episodes of a tragic (back)story in favour of a bland “my blorbos living a domestic family life” scenari#you couldve at least TRIED to make it somehow accurate to their PERSONALITIES??? what about their respective traumas???#its like they dont see those characters as who they ARE. you just kept the FANON design for them#and completely disregarded their personalities?????#this is me essentially yelling into the void. if you are a jmart family au enjoyer then feel free to ignore this post or something#i know this changes nothing. thats just a random thought#tma#the magnus archives#jonathan sims#martin blackwood#jmart critical#somewhere else#tma s5#jonmartin#<- i think?
