Okay, so how does Thorley interact with people? Two ways, either he tries to be charming and falls flat on his face or he gives zero fucks about whatever the hell you are talking about. Depends on his mood. Either way, he is an awkward lemon through and through.
Charming Thorley:
thinking: “oh shit oh shit oh shit what am i doing????”
Zero Fucks Thorley:
thinking: “just gonna nope outta this situation”

Thorley Greengrass
➛House: Ravenclaw ➛Year: Seventh ➛Family: Pureblood ➛Face: TBD
It’s sick that all these battles are what keeps me satisfied. -- (x) The ends justify the means -- Machiavelli No one ever thinks they’re awful, even people who really actually are. It’s some sort of survival mechanism -- Emily St. John Mandel
Logic and citron, Thorley had stopped actually trying in class about four years ago. Sure, he did the assignments, he took the tests, he scored near perfect on all of them. Hogwarts was supposed to be a challenge but his pleasure reading would send Professor Slughorn into a confused stupor. Not that that was saying much. Thorley simply wasn’t challenged and he sat in class bored out of his mind, praying for graduation so he could do something useful with his time.
Like perhaps track down Grindelwald. It was ambitious, but he’d been tracking his movements for almost two years just for this very reason. Thorley did the arithmancy in his fifth year - this constant overflow into muggle society, muggle bedrooms, would cause the wizarding line to die out. They needed to stay within the pureblood circles if magical children were to be assured. The muggleborns could not be allowed to continue enjoying the benefits of the magical society. He wasn’t uncaring, he was logical. Sometimes difficult choices have to be made in order to benefit the greater good.
The role of Thorley Greengrass is currently closed.

◮: My muse gets possessed
Walburga was minding her own business, walking down the corridor, about to head back to the dungeon. She had just finished the round as Head Girl, and to her surprise no one had been out and about, doing things they weren’t supposed to. It almost disappointed her, actually.
What was that? The Black heiress stopped dead in her tracks. A shadow, and it was nearing her. “Who’s there?” she questioned, her voice firm, cold, sharp. No reply, no nothing. The brunette realized she must of just imagined the whole thing. It was getting too late. She continued her route, towards the cold depths of the Slytherin dungeons. The nasty feeling wouldn’t peel off her, however.
Thorley Greengrass. Bloody hell. “Greengrass, where the fuck did you come from?” she hissed. For once in her life, she actually looked…not quite scared but not far from it. She shook it off in a second though. He had appeared all out of nothing though. The Ravenclaw never replied to her. “What’s your deal, Greengrass?” she spat. It was then she actually realized that Greengrass looked…different? His usual awkward, at times clumpsy self was missing and he stood straight, giving her a stare that could give her a run for her money.
The man moved, in a confident manner she had never seen in him before, and he was moving closer to her. Walburga held her head high, but she didn’t look nearly as confident as she wanted to. Something was definitely wrong. “Move it, Greengrass.” she ordered him, but the only reply she got, was a smirk. A bloody smirk! She had never seen the man smirk once truthfully. Now he looked….malicious.
“What’s wrong? You look uncomfortable.” he finally spoke and that voice was certainly not Greengrass voice. It sounded dead. Before she even got to say something, the man’s eyes changed. His usual eyes turned black. Utterly, completely black. A gasped rang through the empty corridor and Walburga was about to run.
A cold hand wrapped around her wrist though, in a dead tight grip. Walburga was sure it would leave a bruise. “I honestly didn’t know I’d find so much hate inside this body, but he sure did hate you, Black. I’m sure he’ll thank me when I’m done with you.” Walburga gulped, and for the first time in her life, she felt honest terror hammering inside her chest and she realized that she might not be lucky enough to last until next morning. Fuck.

So I’ve been musing on Thorley’s ambition to track Grindelwald’s movements. Why did this start? Well, I think Thorley is fundamentally one of those people that never crosses the line into action. Let me explain. He has been doing all this research since probably third or fourth year on muggle blood and its affects on the magical community, and, despite finishing the majority of the research, he hasn’t published his findings. Why? Well, this is a question of his personality. I think it’s not because he is a private person who doesn’t want to share his findings with anyone else, and I don’t think it’s because he isn’t confident in his research either. It is because he knows that unless you put a powerful figure in front of an idea, no one will hear the message clearly. He has been waiting and watching for such a figure that is worthy of his research. So far, the only one that has come close is Grindelwald, an international Dark Lord figure. Going back to “never crosses the line into action”, it’s not that Thorley doesn’t want to save the magical world, he just knows logically that he isn’t the figurehead that is going to be the hero. He knows his own role in this master plan and it’s not at the front lines. Additionally, I think secretly Thorley doesn’t know how to function within split second reactions. He needs time to think, weigh the pros and cons, make a plan, and use logic. Instinct and emotional responses? He believes using those are weak habits. Intellectually, I truly believe that Thorley could match a Dark Lord. However, power and charisma wise, he falls short. He is in this state of mind that he knows his research is good enough, but he himself isn’t good enough to make anything happen with it. It seems like a confidence issue, but it isn’t, it’s carefully analyzed logic; it’s knowing thy self.

Okay guys, I have this really dumb headcanon that Thorley IS a lemon. I was just imagining that since he likes lemon bars and he talks with pursed lips like he’s constantly eating lemons that he just BECAME a lemon one day. XD Like, if you had to assign him a fruit it would 100% no doubt be a lemon. He’s such a sour asshole sometimes cause he wants to be charming but all he is IS AN AWKWARD LEMON.

Thorley Aesthetics
dozens of incomplete journals, messy bed, trying to get thoughts onto paper, 3am talks, constant fiddling, chewing on inside of cheek in concentration, quills scratching against parchment, picking at fingernails in boredom, avoidance of emotions, classical music, heavy rainfall against glass, cricking neck after hunching over a notebook for hours, denial of feelings, crisp new book pages, the greater good

Thorley Bio 0-17yrs
0-10: Thorley’s childhood life was full of wide eyes and brilliant smiles. Listening to his mother sing to him in Italian, folk songs that her mother had taught her, and playing wizards and dragons with his father, in which father always was the mighty dragon, Thorley was a happy and adventurous child. Then he discovered another way to view the world, books. He consumed words faster than his favorite lemon bars, devoured letters quicker than his fastest broom. How the world worked, why people did the things they did, no question was unknowable, no equation unsolvable. These books were like guides on how to solve the puzzles of the universe, limitless knowledge in his grasp. Instead of going outside and exploring the forests, Thorley spent his days inside the family library reading. His sun-kissed skin faded, his bright smiles and sparkling wide eyes dimmed as he learned the sins of humanity, his mother’s songs lost their comfort and his father’s imaginary games became pointless. On the one hand, his parents were proud of their prodigy but on the other they mourned the loss of their warm-hearted child.
11-13: As Thorley entered Hogwarts, he became acutely aware that he was not like other children. Sure, there were studious and book loving children, but they didn’t see the world like he did. He saw the truth of the world. It was full of magic, yet it was stark and grey. Surprises felt like they didn’t exist anymore, or rather, they were pointless. It wasn’t that Thorley was an unhappy child, he just understood that happiness wasn’t the highest priority in life. Solve the puzzles, do the homework, score high on the tests, this was his world; a person’s worth was measured by test scores, and he wanted to be worth something.
13-15: It was in the winter of his third year that he discovered something that sparked a passion within him, gone was the dull tick-tock of his life and in its place a crackling fire began to burn. He knew that empires rise and fall, that powers overturn, this was the way of the world, but… his new found revelation was unacceptable. Magic, the constant force in the world that has been around since before the dawn of time, was dying. Poisoned by the non-magical humans in this world, their blood mixing with ours was dampening magical power and bloodlines were thinning. Not to mention sacred traditions were being replaced, rituals overwritten and forgotten, and pure magic was being tainted through poor regulation. He’d done the arithmancy work, if this intermingling with the muggles continued, magic would die out. Thus his mission started, to save the magical world. We would collect as much evidence as possible, do and re-do all the research, and read the data over and over until he was satisfied that it would change the world.
15-17: With his research nearing completion, Thorley finally admitted to himself that he was not going to change the world single-handedly. With all of his knowledge, his logical mind, the two things he lacked to make his project soar were: charisma and power. Although he was the heir to one of the sacred twenty-eight pureblood families, he did not have enough power to hold much sway over the magical community; in both political and magical power. He needed a charismatic captain to man his precious ship. Thus, his search began. At last, Thorley turned to a radical figure that was changing the world with terrorism; the Dark Lord Grindelwald. Honestly, he would rather change the world with a saner and less ruthless individual, but in order to accomplish his dream he needed the power and voice of a Dark Lord. Tracking Grindelwald’s movements wasn’t easy, but he was getting close to finding a pattern amongst the chaos.
17: Now in his seventh and final year at Hogwarts, Thorley has completely given up on appearing like he cares about school work; not that he lets his grades drop of course. Putting all his energy into finalizing his plan for presenting his research to Grindelwald, he waits for the perfect opportunity to make it all happen.

Thinking about Thorley’s “greater good” moral, makes me wonder if he is so logical why does he want to interfere with history in the making? For example, it is logical, from my perspective, to let things change and develop naturally. That is how the world works, by going against the current you are just delaying the inevitable which is illogical. It is easy to fall into character types and tropes that squish you into two dimensional boxes. Humans are complex creatures that often contradict themselves. So when Thorley says he is completely logical in all ways, that isn’t true one-hundred percent of the time. He is still human, much as he is loath to admit sometimes, and he cares about his family and his community. Thorley has a heart whether he likes it or not. When he says he wants to eradicate muggle blood from the magical community for the greater good, it is both out of logic and out of love.

tw: blood mention
Entertainment provided by the house ghosts left everyone in stitches, cheeks burning from laughter. Professor Dippet dismissed everyone back to their common rooms and the hall was filled with cheering voices and further appreciation for the annual feast. Students spilled out the great hall doors and poured into the entrance hall--
Loud clanking interrupted the cheer, just as students began bending down to more closely inspect the debris on the floor. Feathers? Chicken feathers? What was on them, was that -- blood?! Suits of armor lining the hall leapt into action, grabbing students at random and holding them prisoner in their steel arms. A few students laughed, thinking this was further part of the show, but they were the minority. The oldest students started firing spells at the armor in an attempt to release their friends, but the magic simply bounced away. Chaos began to reign until in unison the suits of armor began to speak in a deafening tone.
“The Heir of Slytherin has returned to Hogwarts. This is your only warning. Expel mudbloods from this place, or face the ire of those truly worthy of magic. The Chamber of Secrets has been opened.”
The sound was grating metal akin to nails on a chalkboard and many tried to cover their ears, to no avail. The suits stopped talking but remained motionless, holding students tightly, though unharmed. Until one began to yell - “It’s burning, it’s burning me!” Roman Schelling, a fourth year Ravenclaw, had abandoned his school robes at the beginning of the feast and stood in the arms of a suit now in only a t-shirt. He twisted this way and that as other students began to complain. Those with little skin showing seemed to be merely warm, but those exposed touched the armor that had grown very hot.
Suddenly, the suits of armor released all the students and stepped back into their normal, stationary positions lining the corridor. Disturbed chicken feathers swirled around the floor, their white fluff marred by half dried blood. Professor Marchbanks, the first professor into the hall, shot off several rounds of fireworks to garner attention.
“If you need medical attention, please report to the infirmary. Everyone else, return to your house common rooms in a calm, orderly fashion immediately!”
The following students were ‘prisoners’ of the suits of armor and received minor burns that are treated within a few hours at the infirmary before returning back to their common room.
Euphemia Curren
Walburga Black
Thorley Greengrass
Lance Burke
Students are confined to their house quarters for the rest of the evening. Any starters posted in immediate reaction must take place there, unless they reported to the infirmary and wish to interact with other students in the infirmary. Otherwise, starters posted with time stamps for the next morning or anytime after can be open to all. Conversations left from the feast can continue throughout the week if desired. This event will last until Monday, July 24. The current time stamp is October 31st (common room confinement) or November 1-7 (open time). A new time stamp/event will be posted on Monday, 7/24.

Sloan Lestrange and Thorley Greengrass Headcanon(s)
1. Thorley seriously considered proposing that they be casual sex partners, to vent frustration and to kill boredom together. But then, in his fifth year, it was rumored that she slept with a mudblood and that was a huge turn off for him.
2. Sloan pranked him once at one of the pureblood summer solstice galas by spiking his drink with a scentless watered down version of amortentia that made him flirt with one of the old ladies in which he kissed the lady’s hand a bit too long and received a sharp cuff on the head, about a month’s worth of embarrassment, and a lifelong paranoia about his drinks. He doesn’t know for sure who did it, but he suspects it was Lestrange.
3. In his fourth year, he was at a party in Ravenclaw’s common room where members of all houses were present playing a silly game of Spin the Butterbeer Bottle. Semi-drunk, he was convinced to play. The bottle landed on Sloan; it was his first kiss. A secret he keeps guarded to this very day.

Up With A B-A-N-G!
tw: mention of anxiety/insomnia
Really, he had only wanted to rest his eyes for a second. However, before he knew it he was on the verge of actually falling asleep. He had probably been going on 6 hours of sleep over the past three days, not unusual but with the pressure on to track down Grindelwald before he left the United States his stress levels had been higher. The fact that Thorley was close to falling sleep while studying arithmancy, his favorite subject, was a testament to how exhausted he had really been.
Sleep never came easy to the Greengrass heir. There was always the dread of waking up that came before he could even shut his eyes. Often, Thorley experienced anxiety when waking up, constantly feeling like every nerve in his body was suddenly functioning at the exact same time; it was overwhelming. Lucy had put him on a strict regimen of essential oils to help him wake up more gently, but with the excitement and stress of his research he had been behind on using them. Just a moment more and he no doubt would be sinking deep into hours of sleep-
BANG!
Violently jolting in his seat, causing his chair to fall backwards and dump him on the floor, a high pitched ringing echoed in his ears. Disoriented, Thorley groaned and tried to right himself upwards from off the ground. What in the bloody hell was that? Standing shakily, he grabbed his wand off the desk and stomped down the stairs into the common room. “Who?” He snarled at some of the second year’s in the corner. Pointing up to the sixth year dorms in fear, Thorley’s eyes narrowed into icy slits. There could only be one person in that dorm who would dare to make such a racket. Xaldin Lovegood.
For the past six years, ever since the other had entered Ravenclaw, Thorley had heard bangs and all sorts of noises coming from that dorm. Normally, he just packed up his belongings and went elsewhere for the afternoon. But, for some reason, today of all days, he couldn’t take it anymore. Thundering up towards the sixth year dorms, Thorley roared the other’s name as he slammed open the door.
“LOVEGOOD!!”
@xaldinlovegood

Walburga Black and Thorley Greengrass Headcanon(s)
1. Determined for Thorley to make friends as a child, his parents arranged for Walburga and Thorley to take dueling lessons together from the same tutor. Walburga, being much more clever and quicker than Thorley, mercilessly beat him time after time in the dueling ring. After the first week, his parents cancelled the joint lessons at Thorley’s insistent begging and crying.
2. Whenever Walburga enters the classroom, Thorley hunches in an extra inch to try and avoid being noticed by her piercing hawk eyes.
3. On a dare in fifth year, he was challenged to send a howler insulting poem to Walburga Black anonymously. To this day she doesn’t know who sent it, but has promised to skin alive whoever sent the letter. Thorley still lives in fear that he will be discovered.
