Rising Stars: Shores of null

Gli Shores of Null si distinguono dai loro contemporanei per la loro capacità di fondere elementi apparentemente disparati nel loro suono, prepotentemente pesante e rilassante allo stesso tempo: l’aggressività annerita si affianca a sezioni gotico-doom senza che nessuna delle due suoni fuori posto.

La loro musica può essere malinconica ma maestosa, fatta di trame chitarristiche simili a quelle di un corale su tutta la gamma dello strumento, sostenuta da una potente sezione ritmica e punteggiata da una raffinata miscela di voci pulite e ringhiate, insieme ad un ampio uso di piacevoli armonie vocali che hanno diventare il marchio di fabbrica della band nel corso degli anni.

La band metal romana è stata una presenza incrollabile nell’underground metal sin dal loro esordio musicale nel 2013, sfornando tre dischi impressionanti: il melodico e cupo “Quiescenza” (Candlelight, 2014), il più oscuro e complesso “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” (Candlelight/Spinefarm, 2017).

Infine il loro lavoro più ambizioso fino ad oggi “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)” (Spikerot Records, 2020), un manifesto doom di 38 minuti che vede le apparizioni degli ospiti del doom -titani Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun) e Thomas A.G. Jensen (Saturnus), insieme alla voce angelica di Elisabetta Marchetti (Inno).

Il quarto album della band, “The Loss Of Beauty”, è stato pubblicato nel marzo del 2023 ed è stato elogiato sia dalla critica che dai fan come una delle migliori uscite gotiche dell’anno. Per promuovere l’album, la band partì per un tour europeo di 37 date con Swallow The Sun, Draconian e Avatarium, ricevendo una risposta molto calorosa da tutti i fan di tutta Europa.

Shores of Null Usher Grieving Souls “Beyond The Shores”

Rome’s SHORES OF NULL have a third teaser to preview their upcoming doom record 'Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)' (2020). Close to forty minutes, the one track album is an epic journey through the process of grieving. From a lyrical standpoint, “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” is inspired by the five stages of grief formulated by the Swiss-American psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and explored in her book On Death And Dying, hence the title.

Today, the band shares “Beyond the Shores (Excerpt III).” This third vision opens with feeble notes of a grand piano before the unmistakable spoken words of Saturnus' Thomas A.G. Jensen enters the scene, and his doleful growl finally puts you out of your misery. Saturnus is one of Shores of Null's favorite death/doom bands and vocalist Davide Straccione personally has been a fan of them since Veronika Decides To Die came out in 2006. The band confides that they're truly honored to have him on board for this release.

Shores of Null stand out from their contemporaries in their ability to blend seemingly disparate elements and to sound overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time. Blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place.

A powerful monument to the medium of depressive doom (recommended especially fans of My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, and Amorphis), Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying) will be released in its entirety on vinyl, CD, and in digital form on November 27th via Spikerot Records (pre-order here). A singularly moving and meditative experience not to be missed.

The silent infinity that rushes upwards, completely absorbs and calms. Is this the beginning of the end or the rebirth from the ashes? One starts to understand that the existence is cyclic, it is like an autumn leaf moldering from a tired wind and giving life to timid plants with transparent souls in the spring. Life is infinite ... however, it will continue only in the eyes of the beholder, in the mind of the thinker, in the heart of the lover. This delicate border lies between two CD’s of the Woe Unto Me's new album, “Among The Lightened Skies The Voidness Flashed”. Musically, conceptually and artistically, two album parts radically differ from each other: the first part immerses the listener in a gloomy and depressive atmosphere of versatile doom death metal, while the second part consists of acoustic melancholy, which envelops with the veil of autumn spleen and sad beauty.
