SPECIFICALLY,

How did you (yes, you, the mutual and/or other Tumblr user reading this) get into Monty Python?

To elaborate, what is your Monty Python Fan Origin Story? To further elaborate, how did you become aware of and become a fan of Monty Python? Tag 6 or more (or less, it’s absolutely fine either way!) of your mutuals!

I’ll start first. I first became (properly) aware of Monty Python when I was (and still am) in the Six Idiots/ThemThere Fandom (if you don’t know who the Six Idiots/ThemThere are, they’re a British Comedy Troupe consisting of the following 6 members; Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond. They were first originally together in the children’s historical comedy sketch show “Horrible Histories” which ran from 2009 to 2014, and since then have went on to create, write and star in the following projects, such as the fantasy comedy “Yonderland”, the Shakespeare comedy film “Bill” (2015) and the supernatural family BBC sitcom “Ghosts”) and I saw a video compilation on YouTube comparing clips/scenes from various Six Idiots/ThemThere projects and their inspirations from clips/scenes from various Monty Python projects, which really cemented in my head (especially after becoming a Python fan) that the Six Idiots truly are the “Monty Python” of this generation, or at least the Six Idiots are like Gen Z Monty Python (imo that is).

Anyway, starting in 2023, when I was on holiday with my family to see my grandparents in India, I started watching the MP films (specifically Holy Grail (1975) and Life of Brian (1979)) for the first time on my (barely working) laptop when both movies were freely available to watch in their entirety on YouTube (shocking, I know right?). And tbh, they were absolutely HILARIOUS! (Plus it was at this time that I had realised my first actual proper bisexual awakening when especially watching LoB, specifically the scenes where both Brian and Judith were naked, and thankfully my parents weren’t there to witness this absolute monstrosity (to them at least) and I have to say, thanks LoB :))👍🩷💜💙)

Then when I came back home to England, I watched The Meaning of Life (1983) (because pirating it on my nearly battered old laptop was really hard cuz it kept annoyingly pausing at random points in the movie) and so I asked either my mum or brother (I can’t remember exactly lol) to rent the movie MoL on Amazon Prime, and after watching it, I have to say, it was also pretty amazing! I think MoL is my personal favourite movie of the bunch tbh, cuz in a weird, surreally Pythonesque avante garde way, it was very emotional and cathartic (to me at least) and it felt fitting as a finale to Python as a whole (at least at the time).

After that, I became REALLY, like, REALLY into Python, I watched some of the sketches, some clips of the films, I bought some of the merchandise, I watched and bought DVDs of some of the Pythons’ other projects, etc.

My first Python crush was Terry Jones, but now my 2 absolute crushes are now firmly Graham Chapman AND Terry Jones, BUT….my 3-way Python crushes are; Graham Chapman, Terry Jones AND Michael Palin (tho I do love them all tbh as (as my mum says) im a diplomat lmao, so I do love Eric Idle, John Cleese, and Terry Gilliam equally too, but for the latter 3 I’m not as attracted to them as the former 3, if that makes sense?). Also, I absolutely STAN Carol Cleveland, Connie Booth and Neil Innes, THEYRE THE BEST FR AHHHH

Plus being in the MP fandom has genuinely made my life better, as I met some of my most WONDERFUL and LOVELY and KIND mutuals of all time, especially my bestest of ALL online bestie friends, @commonguttersnipe !! (Love you Commie darling <33, and she also makes pretty great MP fanfics imo too :))🫶❤️)

You want Soapghost asks, you get them… headcanons, share. It’s my favorite thing to ask bc we’re all so creative and I love it.

oh I used to make a whole tiktok series on this so I’m happy to oblige.

- Most ppl make Soap the picky eater but I actually think the opposite. (No hate to the ppl who do obviously). Ghost is the picky eater. Outside of missions, he’s very meticulous about what he eats. He doesn’t like certain textures and if it has a weird aftertaste he won’t eat it. Soap however, will eat anything you put in front of him like dog

- Soap has a thing for bad boys and always had. Any man that screams elusive and dangerous, he gets infatuated with. So he’s not at all surprised by his crush on Ghost. He does get surprised by him falling in love with Ghost, though. He’s had a strict no allowing himself to fall in love rule after he had joined the military, afraid of leaving someone behind. So in a way, both Soap and Ghost were each others exceptions when it comes to falling in love.

- Ghost is one clingy mf. Sometimes, if Soap is sketching something or watching tv, he’ll take the object from his hands and toss it to the side before settling onto his lap, pulling him in for a cuddling session. Soap calls it “dedicated to Simon time.” Each time the Scot just laughs lightly and hugs him tightly. This only happens when they’re alone tho.

- They try to keep their relationship a secret for as long as possible and it’s actually Rudy that ends up clocking them on it. Alejandro and Rudy had come down for a visit. Rudy took one look at them and said, “Glad to see you finally got together.” This causes both Price and Gaz to look over at them in confusion.

- Soap actually cut his hair into a Mohawk for two reasons. 1) it looked cool and his parents always told him no to it growing up. 2) he has a terrible habit of tugging at his hair aggressively when he’s stressed and had originally planned to cut it all off in a buzz cut but couldn’t fully let go of his hair. It’s harder to rip at like this.

- they are always in each others spaces. if soap is standing, you’ll find ghost pressed up behind him as he talks to someone. If ghost is somewhere you can guarantee you’ll see soap right next to him

- Ghost gets man flu. Badly. ghost whenever he’s sick and will spend the whole time complaining and latching onto Soap

- Although Soap will eat anything you put in front of him, if there’s a sudden hard object in his food or a weird crunch, he’ll convince himself it’s a bug or bones and will be unable to finish it.

- Price had caught onto Ghost’s feelings as soon as he had heard Soap switch from “Mactavish” “Sergeant” or “Soap” to “Johnny.”

- They communicate sometimes via tapping or squeezing Morse code into each others limbs. This is both on missions and when they’re around their friends. Bonus if this is what gets them together.

- Ghost tends to shut himself away and hide when he has a breakdown. Soap is always able to find him.

- Soap apologizes a lot when he’s breaking down. Ghost reassures him it’s okay and that he doesn’t have to apologize.

- Ghost is a really attentive boyfriend. He puts his all into loving Johnny, even if scares him. He tries every day to fight against his trauma that’s begging him to run and hide. When they first started nearing more than friends, Ghost tried his best to stay away but just couldn’t. He never was toxic to Soap. Just tried to emotionally and mentally distance himself by trying to spend a more normal amount of time with him where he tried to be more friendly than lowkey flirty. Nothing worked. So then he figured if he was going to do this, he’ll treat it like he treats a mission and give it his best shot at succeeding. Be the best he can be in his role. They have a very healthy relationship bc of it.

- Soap has two sisters. One older (by only a year. He was an oops baby as she loves to tell him) and one younger (by two years). His older sister has always been overprotective over him. She’s headstrong and practically helped their mother raise the two younger siblings since their father was always working. His younger sister is more on the shy side. She’s very quiet. Doesn’t defend herself much. She likes music and art and is actually a famous violin player. His older sister is a stay at home mom to two wonderful children. An elder boy and a girl. She named the girl after Soap bc she said said she reminded her so much of him as a baby. Her name is Johnna. Soap thinks it’s because she was born after he just left their house for a slightly longer leave.

- My friend hammy and I actually both have this one. Ghost likes photography. He takes pictures of his loved ones off guard with a Polaroid camera and keeps them in a fire proof box underneath his bed. He does this bc he really has nothing to remember his original family by, so he tries his best to keep memoirs of his found one. Soap takes up a majority of them.

- Sometimes if Soap isn’t paying attention to him when they’re on leave, Ghost will just straight up pick him up and haul him over his shoulder to bring him wherever he wants to go. Soap always loudly protests about this but let’s him do it anyways.

- Ghost is gay and demisexual. Soap is bi with a heavy male lean.

☕ Do you do warmup sketches before drawing? (Bonus: do you have any to share?) 🙃 Which is easier: faces facing left, right, or front view? 🐻 Your go-to things to draw when you need comfort?

1. Ocassionally. Usually when I try to do warmup sketches my perfectionist brain takes over and I end up turning it into a big project no matter how hard I try not to, but there are some rougher doodles that I've resisted that temptation with. Here are some examples of warmup doodles I've done in my smaller sketchbook tho lol. (Fun fact: some of them relate to an OC I'm writing a scifi novel about but might be introducing as a side muse ((with altercations to fit into the fandom)) on this blog eventually.)

2. Front view, for sure. Faces are my favorite thing to draw though, so I've got practice with a lot of different angles.

3. Lately Simon x Markus art (I shamelessly ship them so hard, definitely my OTP) but I also like to draw some of my OC's a lot when I need comfort. Especially Alma (the one mentioned before that I might make a muse here) and Cain (my first OC and a total self insert. There's a doodle of him above too. The one with really small pupils and long lower eyelashes and a bunch of scars you can see peeking through above his shirt.) Drawing monsters from my nightmares also helps me get them out of my head and is therapeutic for me.

Well, with an introduction like this, even if I *weren't* interested in the stuff you have to offer (spoiler alert: I am), I'd still be curious to see what it is at the very least. :) Some of those old Pandorasims sets (if those are what you were referring to here) could definitely use better textures.

Yup, some of the stuff is from Pandorasims, indeed. And from xxxsims. Slig did some nice recolors of some of the latter’s stuff, at least, but I want to high-res ‘em a bit and do some different colors for my own uses. The Pandora stuff, though? Needs serious help. I mean, I get that the textures for these items were probably not the main attraction and all, but...well, such things are important to me. :) I want my game to look nice even if no one sees this particular aspect of it but me. And I imagine storytellers would want better-looking textures, too, for pics/videos.

Generally speaking, I feel like if you want to create something (whether it's Sims content, a story, or a goofy sketch), then create it. When it comes to Sims content, there's always someone who'll download and appreciate the content. Simmers are a diverse breed with a wild assortment of stories, hoods, and gameplay needs/desires. So on the heels of "If you want to make it, make it" is "If you want to share what you've made, share it." Kinky Sims for all! :D

*high five* Yeah, I know what you mean and that’s generally my attitude, too. This stuff, however, was going to be just for me, but then I got to thinking about how there’s a dearth of nice-looking stuff of this type and...Well, I can do something about that. I think, anyway. We’ll see, with some of the stuff. But, due to the more sensitive nature of this kind of stuff...Well, I second-guess. :)

OMG, don’t even get me started. I mean, OK, yeah, the whole thing sort of normalized mine and my husband’s lifestyle a little bit which on the one hand might be a good thing....but on the other hand, it didn’t do it right. Even if it was well-written (which it totally isn’t; it was a bad Twilight fanfic that was obviously written by someone who’d never had even remotely kinky sex, much less any contact with real people who practice BDSM), it portrayed an abusive relationship, not the sort of thing real people who are into this sort of thing practice. Just...ugh. Awful, awful thing. >:(

Skell, I think. I think it’s part of her repository project. I don’t think it’s necessarily perverted, though, especially not in game context. I mean, if you go by the speech bubbles, kids regularly talk about sex with their parents/siblings at the dinner table in the game. :) But even if that wasn’t the case...Well, kids will wear or have or do inappropriate things that they don’t know are inappropriate. They just think it’s pretty or something. Like, in this case, I imagine Owen likes those jammie pants just because they have purple hearts on them. He’s purple, so he likes purple things. :) He has no idea what they mean, and his parents probably think it’s funny. Because they’re that way.

Ohhhhh, I’m a big huge honking dorky Trek nerd. Even published a fanzine, back in the day, was heavily involved in Usenet newsgroups in the early days of the internet and was staff on one of the big-at-the-time forums when such things came to be. I’m not in the fandom per se anymore at all for various reasons, but I’ll always watch the shows and read fanfic and that sort of thing. (DS9 is my fave. TOS will always have a special place in my heart, of course, but most of my Trekker heart belongs to DS9. :) )

I would add an evil laughter gif here, but Tumblr won't let me, so you'll have to imagine it. :P Yeah, it can be surprisingly hard to find historical fiction that isn't focused on romance sometimes. I don't mind some, but when it seems to take over the rest of the story... meh. That's what I read fanfic for. And now I have the Ride of the Valkyries in my head too, but at least it's not Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer again.

It’s not that I can’t deal with ANY romance in historical fiction. I can if it makes sense within the story and the real history because, hey, these were real people and they fell in love and had relationships and all that. One of my favorite books (The Sunne in Splendour, by Sharon Kay Penman) is about Richard III, and a chunk of the 1000-page plot is about the relationship between him and his eventual wife and what impact that had on him as a person which in turn affected what kind of king he was, and that’s all good. But then there are those that are set in, say, Henry VIII’s court and it’s all thinly-veiled trashy romance novel tripe. (Yes, Philippa Gregory, I’m looking at you.) If I want that, I’ll sit and watch The Tudors, for God’s sake because ooh! Really hot men, gayness, AND boobies, yay! :) I’d rather read about about how that court really was. I mean, it was intriguing enough without having to pruriently sex it up. :p

I never could work out how to make a restaurant run properly either.

The “secret” is to run them with as few employees as possible. Especially at first. Because they will suck out all the money you make and more. So, you either have to have the owner do all the functions (Host(ess), cook, waitstaff) -- which you can do at first because you won’t have a lot of customers until the place levels up to at least Level 3 -- OR you have to use slave labor family members to fill the roles. 

Also, having a limited menu of items that don’t require a lot of cooking skill is necessary, unless/until your cook levels up. Otherwise customers will end up with a lot of burnt meals, which lowers loyalty and makes it harder to get stars and level-ups and all that.

Oh, God, you poor thing. My dogs at home in Colorado are constantly having skunk encounters lately, apparently. (I’m not there, at the moment, but the ranch hands report in regularly. :) ) It didn’t used to be so bad, but apparently there’s a skunk population explosion in the nearby area...
