LUKE STARKILLER!

No, it’s not Luke Skywalker’s evil twin, or some sort of mutated lab experiment escapee that looks like our favourite Jedi... Instead it’s the name of the free character you can access in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga to celebrate May the 4th! What’s that, you say? It’s only the biggest day in the calendar for any fan of the Wars!

Fire up your copy of the game and you’ll access Starkiller himself from the character selection screen under the Jedi character class!

So who or what is this alternative version of Luke? Well, apparently he is an early version based on concept designs by Ralph McQuarrie, a conceptual designer and illustrator who worked on the original Star Wars trilogy!

There’s no need to fork out on this momentous day (unless you don’t own the game of course). Instead, return to the ways of the LEGO force and enjoy Starkiller in all of his early, conceptual glory!

With #starwarscelebration in full swing I thought I'd post a few more #bts of making a set of custom cosplay jewelry. For the #AvarKriss circlet we needed hair combs, but to be the right size and color I needed to build them from scratch. Yep! Custom means custom made down to the hair combs! That meant starting with round wire that gets rolled slightly flat, then doubled over and the 2 strands twisted together. This shape makes the teeth on the comb have a good bit of grip on the hair from the flat face, but not enough to tear or pull hair because of the curved faces. I then made slots in a different piece of rolled wire for the twists to sit in, so that when they were soldered in place there would be extra contact and the connection would be even stronger. These were then cleaned up, shortened to an appropriate length and the two wires soldered together at the very tip. The tips got rounded off because we don't want a snow white hair comb stabbing situation. We did a bit of hardening of the brass at this point, but left the final for after installation. Once the rest of the circlet was complete the combs were riveted in place (soldering would soften the metal and prevent it from holding it's shape properly) and the teeth were twisted a bit tighter to give them a smoother hold in the hair and also to finish hardening them.
