idk even know if we all have covered this before but uuhhh...

your birthday would be special and not so special at the same time, wether your with Zandik or Dottore doesn't matter.

if you're both still in the Akademiya, he would hide a new creation from you and work on it when you have classes but he doesn't a few weeks before your birthday. he thought it was weird, celebrating your day of birth, but he had listened to you talking about all these kinds of things that you got when you were younger, and decided to at least try and make you just a little happier than usual. (you got a little robot thing that can play your favorite music, plus some of his favorites too since you always pester him to tell you his music taste)

if its with the doctor though, you might just get a little more. even though you've technically been alive for 400 years, you still don't dare call it otherwise (you can see your dear hubby's eyes sadden a little when you say you still weren't "alive"), you still haven't celebrated your birthday for all those years. and with thousands of three other people wanting to celebrate it too, how could you not. so you had a little tea party ig containing of Bina, Pantalone, child, little Zandy and with Dottore himself reluctantly setting off his duties for a little while just for u.

Holidays, ceremonies, birthdays, anniversaries, special days, and so on were never of much importance to Dottore if he was being honest, being raised how he was. They were mostly a waste of time. Even after he met you, they were never a subject of much attention. That's not to say he doesn't care at all, however. Well, he only cares about it if it's related to you because you're the only one he cares about, and it'd be a hindrance to his work if you were sad or upset (lies, of course.)

In the Akademiya, Dottore had never ever made a birthday gift for someone else, but you were the one who changed that of course. The scholar would have never guessed he'd ever do something like this but... you've changed him, even though he loathed to admit it. He tries to think of it as simply 'repaying' you for the gift you gave him on his birthday, in order to convince himself that he's not just being nice. You would let him think what he wants, but you're really happy that he took the time to get you something, hand-make it no less. Him taking time off from his experiments for you? Consider yourself loved.

(It reminds me of my HC that Dottore created an upgraded version of the instrument used for Radiant Spincrystals for you :3)

When you woke up after so many centuries, you're just happy to be able to get through another birthday. Just being with all the segments on your special day, and getting something sweet was more than enough. Of course, once your new friends found out, obviously that was no good for them! Too bad, it doesn't matter what you or Dottore think, they will make sure you enjoy yourself ten times more on this day!

You're hesitant on bothering Dottore but Columbina and Pantalone have zero problem dragging him out. He's grumpy and annoyed at first but, when he sees how happy you are, well, he could afford to sacrifice a few hours for that. All in all, you may only have a few people around, but they love you more than you know.

Apollo knew that falling in love with you could represent a danger, his love seemed cursed no matter the time and space where it flourished. He could rarely (or rather never) be happy with the person he loved, but he just couldn't help it and his human form made him nothing more than an embarrassing, clumsy, sweaty bundle when he was with you. Everything about the situation seemed wonderful (and tragic) to him, he didn't know when he had started to feel that way but his heart was beating as if it were the first time.

He tried-and really tried-not to make it obvious. You'd already risked getting into this mess with him and Meg, you'd saved his not-so-divine ass a thousand times, and now you got involved as his love interest? No thanks, he preferred you more as a human and not as a cute bush. Although he wondered what kind of flower you were? No, stop, he wouldn't create any more flowers with ex-lovers.

But your pretty eyes, your lips and, oh, that laugh that seemed like a melody composed by damn Mozart! Damn, he had a huge crush on you. And what was he? a skinny guy with a bird's nest for hair and acne problems, ugh.

Maybe the walk he was having with you around New Rome was the closest to what you would do as a couple, so Apollo began to daydream. He grabbed a flower from the flower beds where you were walking and held it in his sweaty hands.

He looked at you. How your hair danced with each step and you smiled as you saw how the simple everyday life of the locals resulted in something beautiful. The sun, gods! He used to be in charge of it and couldn't contain his jealousy towards the other gods for enlightening you with such grace.

Apollo rolled the flower on its stem with his fingertips and admired its pink petals.

Then, he slowed his pace and left you walking on your own. How it hurt. He just wanted to love and be loved.

Noticing his absence, you turned on your heel, kicking up a small wave of dust.

—Apollo? — You called him and he felt a crack appear in his human heart.

He looked up and walked towards you slowly. The sun was already setting, Ra would have already finished and he was surely laughing at him.

— Darling? — He responded, feeling the heat on his cheeks immediately. Flirting wasn't so easy for him anymore, yet he kept trying.

You snorted and gave a small smile.

— Again with that.

Wanting to brush aside your mockery, he approached you and placed the flower behind your ear. Hearing no complaints, he gently placed his hand on the back of your head and kissed your forehead. At least his father hadn't given him an embarrassing height to achieve that.

His heart raced and he tried to keep your cheek resting on his chest hoping you could hear his heartbeat. A silent way of telling you what felt for you, would you have understood?

You straightened gently making you face each other and the breeze suddenly caressed both of you. Apollo's tangled brown curls played with the flurry of his twirling and framing his blue eyes. He looked so young but his essence emanated the ancestral, it was like admiring those museum pieces but raw. You felt so bad about yourself.

How can you fall in love with a god? The answer was short: You couldn't. You shouldn't.

You shouldn't have.

The breeze brought with it small particles of dust that made your eyes blink suddenly to cover the discomfort, however, a few seconds after noticing it, Apollo raised his hand and diverted the wind from your face. A gentle and terribly sweet act.

You both navigated simple moments like that but you couldn't see them taking you anywhere. So what did it matter? Before it all ended and broke your heart, you would live to mourn it.

Your hand wanted to travel to Apollo's cheek but you only managed to leave a ghost of your touch. Despite being familiar with him and playing bad jokes on him, it still seemed unreal to be able to touch him in such an impetuous way. You stood on tiptoes and gave him a small kiss on the lips.

The surprise of the act unbalanced him and he stumbled. He blinked repeatedly and his cheeks flushed.

— That was...?

— An offering.

It was probably towards the wrong god but Apollo didn't care if only the present mattered. More so if it was one with you.

Makima, devils and self-fulfillment

Dumping some Makima and CSM thoughts after a part 1 binge bc I think about her forever and ever. I’m sure I’m forgetting some devil lore, feel free to correct what i get wrong/what’s been confirmed. On the table of contents there’s why & how Makima got fixated on Chainsaw, her revealing liking for the country mouse and discussion of her nature & emotions & desires. Was the scorpion doomed to be a scorpion?

The most of this post was thought of during a conversation with @saccharineomens and I don’t think it makes sense to jump into the spiral it sent me on without first laying down the interesting groundwork theorizing she did:

"Thinking about how makima herself wants to be deified. I wonder whether she recognizes the difference between Love As Worship and the love that Aki, Power, and Denji had. She says she wants to help humanity by having Chainsawman eat the “bad” devils, but why does she want to help humans? Because she was ordered to by the Prime Minister? No, her drive seems much more personal than that, it seems like she teamed up with the PM for contractual reasons. (In the most recent chapters we see governmental members wanting certain devils to be eaten, too. What was Makima’s relationship with them? She’s too independent to just follow THEIR orders, she’s Control.)

So is she wanting to better humanity for the accolades, or out of the goodness of her heart? She sees the big picture. She sees any small sacrifice as worth it for the end result, and she’s ruthless. Perhaps she thinks that a more sedate human race would be easier to control? But Makima doesn’t loathe humanity. She never acts like she sees all humans as lesser. She loves humanity’s creations, like good food and movies. She just wants Good Things all the time

She says she prefers the country mouse BUT adds a story where she helps exterminate country mice like vermin. She likes the simplicity yet rejects the idea of being simple. Makima the complex individual you are"

The story itself seems to prefr the country mouse. Well- it strikes a balance, shows that a risk to live good & fully can be very worth it, but still that stability over ambition is preferable, proning having a simple happy life over fame, a simple job instead of a dangerous one, etc etc. And I do find Makima’s answer on this so so interesting, she prefers the country mouse, but this preference isn’t out of affection or sympathy but because of how relaxing it feels to exterminate them when they cause problems.

Order satisfies her. Her order satisfies her. She likes the action of rooting out disorder. Maybe this is the devil part, like how Power especially wants blood and drinking it, I feel there’s an itch to every devil, and for Makima it’s a very rigid world view/morality/standards & making things follow her rules and submit to her order.

And maybe this is why she’s attached to humans too, why she felt it was worth it to stick with the government- because devils are chaotic by nature (it’s a whole plot point that hell is essentially a free-for-all battleground for example), meanwhile humans are the species that universally rule Earth with systems they invented and instilled. They made then enforced rules, complex and intricate webs of them. She feels alienated amongst devils but she understands the humans’ need for an orderly organised society, and now she wants to be part of it. Control and conquest require social dynamics after all, requires civilizations or groups. War is chaotic while peace is, well, peaceful— Makima resents her sisters for being death, famine and war, things that throw the world in such chaos. She wants a world of perfect order, no matter how much collateral damage there will be if the end result is control.

This is even more interesting if you consider that yes, Makima is untouchable of her own design, she deifies herself with her omnipresent amount of control and the sway over others that she seeks and encourages— There is this urge to dehumanize her for it, that yes, she is the devil of control and that means she was never going to be any different, have any more feeling be any less uncanny. And I love part 2 so much for this, because it shows us the war devil and the famine devil and we see how frankly uncharismatic with poor self-discipline they are, Nayuta too, and it helps us realize just how much Makima’s success was self-made.

She admires Chainsaw Devil, the Hero of Hell, because he had his own code and his own rules and he made Hell, the chaos pit, submit to them unfailingly. Wherever he goes he decides what he does and what happens to the people he encounters but does so consistently, he has his mechanism and his rules that he always obeys, and he fulfills them every time. It’s still a mystery the why of Chainsaw Devil’s behavior back then and how it works exactly, maybe Pochita left hell because he was tired of these rules he lived by like chains, but still, he was a servant to his code. Makima would have been glad being killed and eaten by Chainsaw Devil because it’d have been becoming part of his design, his conquest, his domination, she’d have been part of that —his��� order. Through her death she would be shaping his world and be part of a conqueror’s making history. Like how she appreciates the country mice that die for the sake of order. Like how sacrifices must be made to herself, like listing the name of every person whose life was lost to the Gun Devil— All for the ~greater good~, for her vision for the world. Conquest always thinks its reasons are justified.

And she does mention with the country mice thing that she goes out to a friend’s farm every year! She has a human friend?? That she visits yearly and she genuinely likes it?? Ultimately she lives a busy city life because of her goal and drive and her urge & satisfaction with overseeing shaping the world herself, but part of her, like so many characters including Angel and Aki and Reze, wishes she could live a slow peaceful country life. Moviegoing and dogs and mice in a farm- Wouldn’t it be so much simpler if Makima could find fulfillment and happiness in being a farmer, in keeping control of her own farm, getting satisfaction from exterminating vermin and expertly getting everything right, the right crops grown at the right time on the right soil? Here, too, in a way it’s trying to have full control of an ecosystem, but her goals would be easier to achieve and better, without ceaseless sacrifice or much pressure. But Makima wants grandiosity and her goal does matter to her on a fundamental and moral level, she does think she knows what’s best for the world, and with the power to change it why wouldn’t she strive to? Visiting the farm is just a break, just something she does in fall to help out and just in time to see the vermin extermination. It calms her, then it’s back to actual work.

In capitalism, even the one at the very top of the ladder is ultimately alienated from others and often unsatisfied by their lifestyle, always wanting more and more power because surely that’s the extra edge they must be missing to be content— like how Makima thinks she wants to dominate Chainsaw Devil instead of being his equal. And she says it herself too, she likes humans the way humans like dogs…….. And she keeps so many dogs :( Makima prefers the country mice because they’re calming to root out, maybe because she usually mainly deals with city mice. It’s very easy to equate humans to the mice in this allegory because it’s pretty direct and she’s already likened humans to lesser animals compared to her. She’s self-isolating by design for her design but she still craves relationships and contentment, and the dogs are the embodiment or her want for bonds and occasional simplicity because there is no possible ulterior motive, no way they tie back into her wider plan. They’re her personal life— something that feels so alien when speaking about Makima. Personality and individuality and likes and preferences and friends they visit every year. She likes how easily she can train a dog and how they become putty in her hands, at her beck and call, how much they love her and how much she enjoys their love. How simple and straightforward and easy it is. She keeps them because she likes being loved by them and loving them, and she’s gotten and raised so many. A conqueror always wants more and more and more, is never satisfied.

Devils and agency

Like Power the blood devil wanting blood and having a fixation on drinking it like with Denji’s, or how it was shocking that the violence devil was pretty tame and nice and how he himself theorized it was because he was a fiend and possessing a human body… There’s something to be said about nature vs nurture with the devils. The way they reincarnate and always embody their fear makes it seem categorically like nature, that they always always end up fulfilling the role they were named after and born to fill… Outside influence they’re helpless but to conform with. Like the humans accepting their spot in the social ladder and the shittiness of their living conditions and job under capitalism. Makima craved being equals with someone despite being the control/conquest devil, Angel Devil despite claiming to be a devil who likes to see humans dying was haunted by their deaths and wanted to avoid ones like Aki’s. The Ghost Devil being ironically haunted by Himeno, seemingly helping Aki in her memory out of… Lasting affection? Or maybe it was less about being haunted itself and more about it recognizing how Himeno haunted Aki, and acknowledging that, with the memento, paying her respect to the ghost of her. It’s Angel Devil’s devil nature that makes him like human suffering, so then is it his angel nature too to still care about their deaths? Is there truth to this or is that just personality, just our confirmation bias haunting every part of their identity like it might in their own view of themselves too? We do know different reincarnations of devils do have different personalities after all.

Yoru, war devil, is the most interesting one when talking about the nature vs nurture debate with devils. There is how through her we see the perhaps the most the consequences of a devil stopping being feared— we see a horseman for a concept as universal and horrifying as war be reduced to some bird who needs a contract with a human to have any power even just on the situation when meeting Asa. And through the story we get to know her better, and it becomes clear that her goal is fueled in good part by simply wanting to be remembered and respected through fear. Liked, validated, seen a powerful. But what is more isolating than war? Or control? We also see Nayuta accepting others’ house rules. If part 1 shows perhaps the futility of running away from the truth, with Denji’s memory, with escapist coping mechanisms, with passivity and denial under a corrupt system and with abusive relationships- running away from your own feelings and from the reality of things and from all that you are, more complex than simply human or devil or both or neither— part 2 builds upon the theme of cult of personalities, the chainsaw church, etc. The apocalypse is coming, but this celebrity superhero might save us all, or doom us all uh, dunno. The hero of hell reliving the cycle of pressure from responsibilities and expectations, maybe the part will end with Denji running away like Pochita did~

But yes, on the reverse, I think Famine is a very interesting example of how a devil’s namesake may be more innate than coerced by circumstances. One would think that a famine devil would only like inflicting famine upon others, not being famished itself, but Famine has a bottomless stomach that can never, ever be satisfied, sated. I struggle to find a psychological explanation for this, except that maybe instead of her being hungry it’s her feeling empty when she’s not eating, tasting and having that high sensory experience that releases serotonin in humans, sort of like drugs? But I do take this as a step towards the compulsion theory overall, feels like a reach in the consistency otherwise. And compulsion does not mean it’s something that they like nor that it’s something that they fight against, pretty neutral, just a nature that nudges you towards one path. Maybe it’s even just their go-to for entertainment. Maybe it’s the only thing that makes them feel right and whole. But still the debate remains, what is it, a compulsion or an urge or an itch or an active desire or a conscious chosen want? Does it change anything in practice?

And because of all of this earlier, devils being self-fulfilling prophecies with their role is not in unsignificant part nurture, because doing their atrocities is how they stay remembered— feared, powerful, known— hell and devils are a very isolating place and breed after all, and we do see devils can want companionship. Existentially, it’s their purpose and how they justify their place in the world, in the terrifyingly vast and unknowable cosmos.

We still know so little of what makes Chainsaw Devil so special, why his carnage is so self-controlled. Despite a chainsaw maybe being possibly one of the most "nature" thing you can be— a tool to cut things, a human tool that can be helpful for many things, something to be wielding by another at their judgement on what they decide, but mainly something to cut, a tool suited for carnage, to hurt and to destroy. A blade with a toothed chain, spinning around and around and around endlessly on the same road at the same pace. Such a…. Innately circular concept. And yet the Chainsaw Devil is his own, not driven by an urge or by chaos but his very own brand of order, his own unique assigned purpose, a "if you call i’ll come running to help" policy equalizing everyone. He chooses to withhold his destruction and interference otherwise, and then he chooses to be used. If it’s a choice, of course.

Maybe this is what inspired Makima so much, that Chainsaw Devil could decide what to make of himself despite expectations or innate role. Because even Hell he decided & managed to subjugate under his will and whim, with a precise vision and process. When Chainsaw Devil acts like Denji or is defeated, Makima clicks her tongue and loses her admiration and respect. Makima admired and liked Chainsaw Devil, but only as long as he matched her great image of him in her mind, as long as he followed he rules for what she thinks he should be like. She admired him for his unrivaled self-made success, but once he stepped out of that to truly embody self-fulfillment and agency, disappearing from hell to live on his own road at the beat of his own drum… Well. Surely that was a mistake she has to correct. However their second battle ends, the better conqueror will have prevailed and she’s happy about that, all in the spirit of domination and subjugation.

Imo Makima’s biggest tool, similarly capitalism’s most helpful effect for its own purposes, is complacency. Resignation and passivity helps uphold the system and go along the flow of the will of the people in power. Aki and Reze go along with orders even when knowing their job is trash, etc. In Angel Devil especially we see him go along with the flow uncaring about anyhing, and we discover it was in part due to Makima taking away memories that motivated him. If every devil decides this is just how things are and how things should be that’s what they’ll continue to be and do mindlessly, not pursuing a better life like Chainsaw Devil and Denj and not seeking to change the world like Makima. I think even Makima veils herself to a lot of things, she doesn’t like to think deeply about some things, like her desire for connection, or how making bad movies disappear is strenuous and unsustainable and requiring sacrifices at best— how her judgement is as subjective as anyone else. How liking the country mouse and her friend back at the farm and her dogs could be not devoid of sentimality. Wanting bad movies erased is her one biggest show of selfishness, of pettiness and individuality, it’s about her tastes, simple as. About how she can have tastes, and cry seeing a scene of people hug, and want things that aren’t logical, her ideology and mind twisted into a pretzel to avoid acknowledging that she doesn’t live and breathe purely for the mission she’s made a single-minded robot out of herself to accomplish. Nayuta is assertive and selfish and loud, Makima is manipulative and strategically both for her goals and for coping hollow.

Everything in her plans and goals she says is for the greater good, necessary evil, manufactured happiness the way she’ll have decided for people— and that’s the thing isn’t it, like with War, it’s the crack that shows it was all truly about herself after all. Her self-made deification still had the flaw that a self made it. Makima is not omniscient, and it’s not Chainsaw Devil the not-so-fellow-kindred-soul conqueror who gets the best of her, but a city mouse, a dog, someone she would have never thought to respect, Denji.

Enid never attended nevermore bc her parents were ashamed that she’d never turned. Enid had been showing ‘normie’ traits all her life and her parents kept her hidden, homeschooled her, lied and said that she was adopted and they found her all alone. Enid, being the youngest and the only siblings were boys, believed them when they said they desperately tried for a girl and were “so happy” when they found her that they just kept her. Enid wanted to believe that, but they were so mean- well, she didn’t actually know any different kind of “love” than what they showed her.

So, Wednesday was always in Nevermore, her powers did start showing a lot earlier, and Morticia and Gomez decided to keep her in Larissa’s schooling system. Besides, Aunt Weems was and always will be Wednesdays fave.

Somehow, it comes around that there’s a high school reunion and Wednesday is forced to attend. But, it’s a fake dating thing too. She hires Enid online, pugsley helps her, of course. A fake date to Jericho. A high school reunion.

Enid, never having much luck in the money line, having been so sheltered and “protected” only sought jobs in the outcast line because she was sick of hearing normies gossip about them and snicker and be downright racist to them.

She followed her brothers to Jericho for schooling, but staying homeschooled. Her parents thought that if she ever one day started developing signs of wolf-like behaviour, they’d tell her the truth. That she wasn’t adopted and she was their kid.

So, Enid stuck around Jericho, because although racist towards outcasts, Enid had made some friends with kids from her brothers’ school, Nevermore Academy.

She did work Weathervane Cafe for a while, worked as a sales attendant at the place she liked to spend all her earnings on, and, on the side, sold her services on the internet. NOT IN A CREEPY WAY! She offered advice, for a small fee- girl gotta get cash! She offered a fake date to get parents or other people off your backs for a night, and a decent sum. Lying made her feel yucky inside.

Fake date, Wednesday hires Enid for the reunion, and because none of Enid’s brothers were in Wednesday’s year after she did some quick math to make sure she’d know no one before agreeing, Enid was suddenly being met with a woman dressed in all black and a folder being handed to her.

“Wednesday?” Enid asked hesitantly.

The woman nodded. “I assumed you were Enid after my brother described you as “exact opposite and best for the ruse”. He was right. You’ll do nicely.”

“What’s this?” Enid asked, looking at the folder and flipping it open, her eyes widening. “F-Fifty Thousand?” She squeaked.

“I apologise, I would prefer to pay you a decent fee, your sight seemed too low a price for my askance, consider this a persuasion fee after you’ve read the list of, I suppose you could call them demands. And then, if you decide not to go along with this, I’ll pay you fifty for your time I’ve wasted already. And if you decide you’d like to help me this coming weekend, but the fifty is not enough, I’ll be happy to meet whatever your fee. You have until Thursday, at noon, to let the number on the top of the page know. A simple yes or no is all you need to write.”

Enid watched at the woman dropped a twenty on the table beside her untouched coffee and left the cafe.

Enid stared at the folder, closed it and stood. She had some thinking, and probably drinking, to do. Enid had to get home.

One of the conditions, she’d be Wednesdays fake wife to get two ‘boys’ ( t*ler and x*vier) off her back.

“You think they’d still be holding a flame after fifteen years?”

“Those boys started their idiotic fight over me since our parents were in school and we met when we were merely months old.”

“So they know you’d’ve gotten married?”

Hi! In your answer to another anon's question about clangen comic tips (all those resources were amazing btw, tysm!), you said picking a unique name really helped. I'm considering starting a clangen tumblr for a New Years project (yay!). And it will need a good name!

Any tips/preferences on naming conventions? Do you prefer longer names, descriptive adjectives, just main character names, etc? Any names that are particularly better/worse for you as a reader?

I'm glad the resources were helpful! That doc is really good because it helps summarise a lot of things I've absorbed through osmosis reading so many comics and listening to what the authors have to say cx

On naming conventions, I'm once again gonna give a disclaimer that this is all just my opinion! If you have chosen/want to choose a name that would be "wrong" by these standards, don't let me stop you!

That being said, if I can't remember your comic name and/or I see the name and can't remember which comic it belongs to, it really messes with my ability to get invested in the story/characters :'o

DeviantArt was super renowned for having comics with long unwieldy names that had to be shortened to acronyms, to the point readers would forget the name entirely. T.W.O.R.R. page 34 is easier to forget than It Cascades Down page 34 (these are both my own examples, the latter may come back to life after Kindred of the Mammoth).

Now clangens are different than other comics in that most are just called __clan. Which is fine + it makes it clear that this is a clangen and, at least to me, means I'm less critical on the plot because "sometimes crazy stuff may happen bc RNG said so" cx

My personal issue is that there are so many clangens and a lot of the time their name has little relevance to the clan as a whole. ((Briefly ignoring that "Mammothclan" doesn't exist because they don't call themselves a clan.))

I like to think Mammoth-Clangen is pretty distinct because mammoths are often seen as synonymous with the ice age. Most will instantly know after reading 1 moon that mammoth= iceage= sabertooth cat clangen. If I named them Fleetclan or Glacierclan or slightly more plot relevant Remnantclan, it might not immediately bring up that connection. I also pedantically refuse to use "Saber" in anything because that's a sword and cats don't Have swords XD

Some memorable examples off the top of my head would be

Circusclan and Jungleclan= it's the setting, simple as that cx

Ashpaw is Alone/Lionpaw's Diary- both have a titular character that's easy to remember

Goofyclan- just silly guys, haha unless

Loudclan and Splinterclan also have names I remember for the lore tied to them- Loudclan have a loud train running through their territory, and Splinterclan have splintered off a larger clan!

Again, if you want to name your clangen blog Ravenclan, Stoneclan, Cloudclan, Vulcanclan, Humuhumunukunukuapua'aClan purely because it sounds cool, go for it! I'm not your dad and ngl I think making art and comics should be fun first and serious only when you want it to be uvu

scuse the long post but there was a post going round a while ago about how the Captain probably wouldn't say he's gay in the show bc that's not what it means in his vocab and i definitely agree with that BUT i can see it happening if his saying "gay" is meant to represent his welcoming the "fascinating modern age" that he now sort of inhabits, and show his progression from the era he has been tied to for so long.

it's also got me thinking about the reactions of the other ghosts because i think that whatever way he says it, everyone's different vocab is going to make it difficult for him especially in a Group Setting!

starting simple, "I'm a homosexual", miscommunication from the get-go when Julian pretends he doesn't know what it means just to stir shit up. robin desperately needs to know who the Captain is having sex with and why he has never been approached. Cap gets flustered and scarpers.

can imagine him being like,, "I am, as the youth say, gay" (trying to be hip and use slang because he's terribly modern now). half of them are like, yeah i'm happy too, what of it? but then Kitty absolutely jumps on that like, I'M a youth, I should be gay too!! starts going round telling everyone she's gay, you know?

Or, he does the whole "I prefer the company of men" thing which i LOVE (definitely read some excellent fic with this specific wording and it's just *chefs kiss*) but in a group setting?? it definitely leads to all the others being like,, umm misogynist much?? you hate women?? Kitty starts crying thinking that Cap would prefer to hang out with Julian over her. Mary headbutts him again, absolute carnage.

every single one of these potential coming-outs ends with Thomas thinking that the Captain is in love with him and he's very flattered but he's so in love with Alison...

the funny thing is that individually i think they'd all be fine to come out to (some better than others, some wouldn't be my first choice but overall, depending on what you're looking for in a reaction, they'd be great) but in a GROUP setting, it has the potential to be a real shit show and i love that.

to start off i rlly do think curlys theeeee biggest family man out of the whole shepard family for the simple fact that he doesnt rlly understand that u can have boundaries when it comes to family. not to say that tim and angela DONT value family, ofc they do, but only a small portion of it and thats not something curlys totally down w. out of the shepards hes the MOST hopeful to have one big happy family, hes the only one who deeply loves their mom and while he doesnt love his current stepdad and doesnt love his bio dad, hes still hopeful that at some point his mom WILL find that guy, she will find love and their family will b happy and everything in fall in place!! no matter how many times angela and tim tell him thats never gonna happen and that they should focus on themselves, focus on what theyve got goin on. tim and angela=small family accepters, curly=bigger family wanter basically

personally, i dont think curly will ever stop being a mamas boy completely, its just never gonna happen never ever in a million years, maybe he takes a step back from her and doesnt look up to her as much, but she will still occupy space in his head. so while yea technically he stands up to her when hes older, it wasnt that confrontational, more like a years long battle of acceptance he had w himself, and something tells me thats notttt what u r here to listen to so this will be about curly andddd father figures (minus tim). wellll for this one guy, he started off pretty well, took care what needed to b taken cared of, payed bills, seemed to care about curly, didnt hit his mom, bare minimum things. he even got along w angela (BARELY, but honestly plus everything else it was a milestone no other older guy has done so hey big bonus points for this guy). the one main problem??? he did notttt get along w tim at ALL, they r always at odds w each other, sizing each other up, talking badly about each other behind their backs (sometimes not, just acting like they werent there) things of that nature. the guy lets call him, idk john (no normal guy is named john, NOT johnny) is hostile towards tim cause HE wants to b seen as “the man of the house” like how tim is, but tim just wonttt give it up!!! tim is just tim, hes not doing anything wrong in this instance, he is genuinely just defending himself which john dont like at all. THATTTT is what makes curly hesitant to fully accept him, curly wants a happy family but he still puts angela and tim over that want at the end of the day, theyre the only thing curly has ALL guaranteed for himself.

everytime john tries to get curly to go against tim it leaves a bad taste in curlys mouth, so he “disobeys” him. tim appreciates it but i dont think he would put it against curly to go w john, he doesnt like it and doesnt agree, he would prefer if curly kept listening to him instead, but he gets curlys just a desperate kid looking to belong, as stupid as he thinks he can b. curlys gonna come back running to him in the end no matter what, thats what hes always done. ANYWAYS it would all boil over at some point when he tries to kick out tim out and it gets a lilllll physical, dishes r thrown, someones thrown outside, and then jacob threatens to kick tim out (like its HIS house mannn😭😭), which sets curly AWF. curlys like a lil guard dog for tim, so as soon as jacob lost all his “control” amongst those kids, he just dipped.

and their mom was sooooo pissed and NOOOBBOODDYYYY took it harder than curly, his mom was going off on him especially bc he was the easiest target to hurt. curly spent weeks looking down on himself for it, for destroying “what couldve been” even though he knew its what he felt like was right!! hes not gonna go on a full blown depressive episode, but he cant look his mom in the eyes and doesnt even come home half the time, at LEAST to sleep. tim and angela have stood uo to their moms shitty bfs numerous times before but this is the first time HES specifically done it, so dare i say, i dont think tim and angela help curly much days after the fight!!! when they do it they move on quickly, but curlys not like them and they dont know what to do, they think hes overreacting and tell him to just move on from it already, whats done is done and hes gone, wallowing wont get him anywhere. they dont mostly feel bad for what curly feels, they feel bad that he feels bad for THIS long

To answer your question; since well, they logically share a birthday, i feel like Fliq would be more focused on engaging in Flippy's interests and what things he likes to do rather than the stuff Fliq would usually prefer (very chaotic and loud, high energy stuff), as generally they'd prefer avoiding triggers as much as possible and have a chill celebration that should be joyous and uhm. Not all traumatizing ^_^ (Party Animal.... Gulp. Speaking of which I like to think that episode was like a Welcome Home celebration, ik it's supposed to be his birthday but I love the latter too ok >_< I like to think it's a Welcome Home because if his friends knew he didn't like being surprised like that, they lowk wouldn't have done it the second time) (it's like their first time celebrating with him after a really long time so like they didn't know) (good friends respect boundaries!!!)

So, learning from past mistakes they'd celebrate with NO jumpscare surprises this time from their friends LOL. Gonna be pretty laid-back and possibly considered "boring" by some people's standards but it's his birthday so their opinions don't matter as long as HE'S happy with it 🗣️🗣️

With the help of therapy they're now able to do activities that would've triggered them in the past and his friends are so so proud of him for being able to overcome some things that would've sent him into a whole apocalyptic haze YAY!!! To go in depth of what Flippy likes to do on his birthday, it really is mostly going to be sitting at the dining table and bantering with his buddies, drinking and eating birthday cake for a starter, in general he is a simple guy who likes simple things. if he does decide he wants to go outside to celebrate further; it'd most likely be something like going camping or picnicing, or maybe going to his favorite restaurant or something as silly as sitting down on a field and making flower crowns!! The old man seems to be looking his age for once, granted I'm one of the main reasons he's been pushed to his limits like this. Really though, it's in my nature I can't just hold myself back. He should know this with how clear it is that I'm not the most civil when things like this are involved.

Maybe I should stop doing stuff like this, it seems Time really is more stressed than he ever was before I arrived. The chain are taking care of me here, I shouldn't be adding to their stress, well time’s stress more than anything. It’s hard not to feel at least a little guilty about acting like this when he sounds so exhausted. Planting himself down next to me with a sigh, it really feels like I’m about to be given a lecture about my personal safety. It takes a moment to remove my current project away from the heat and to make sure that it’s stable, meaning I can leave it unattended for a while. Better to be over-cautious than the reason Hyrule needs to tire himself out or drain their already low supplies. Nothing would make me feel worse than that after a lecture.

hmmmm interesting and super hard to say. weirdly eliot or beckett are maybe my most anticipated.

i LOVE eliot’s trope and this is the first TRUE forbidden love story we will see from kbr (they have sort of claimed to have done it in the past but i think this is the most authentically polarized couple they have done. like yes raisy and marrow were sort of forbidden and so were all the bodyguards technically but eliot and winnifred are straight up ENEMIES their families will be RAGING and the DRAMA i will be living for it)

and beckett i’m really excited for because i love him but we dont get to see that much of him in other books. he is super private and busy and of course we should have seen him way more in sulli’s books but i’ve already ranted enough about that for a lifetime. i also love his initial set up with BOTH jo and leo and am happy kbr are writing another poly romance. i simply wasn’t invested in kitsuletti but i ship beckettjoleo (i know they have a better ship name that im simply too tired to remember rn) way more off the bat and since i liked sulli’s books more on the reread im hopeful im going to have a better reading experience this time. poly rep is super important but also way oversexualized so im super curious to see how they handle it and how ill like it this time around

next is probably ben. you may know but i used to be a harriet HATER until my recent reread of luna’s books and then i realized im just a miserable human and i gave her a makeover in my head bc kbr gave her a fugly style and now i recognize the queen that she is. super excited to see ben’s dynamics with his family firsthand and see how him bringing a girlfriend into the fold will go down

begrudgingly i will put charlie next. we all know i have a love hate relationship with this man but i can’t deny that makes me want to read his book so maybe i finally decide one way or the other. or maybe im just meant to have complicated feelings about this character forever idk. but i also know ill enjoy reading charlie and beckett’s twin bond, his dynamic with his parents, his relationship with ben, and whatever drama him and roxanne will cause with beckett (this plot line is a little confusing to me tbh but i want to see how it unfolds. like high key why does beckett even care i feel like the protectiveness they are setting up is baseless and will fizzle out quickly but im curious regardless)

audrey next because MY GIRL!! she shouldn’t be this low but in fairness we don’t even know WHO she will be with so there’s not much to anticipate 😭 but it does make me strongly wonder who her love interest will be and i love when hopeless romantic characters get their happily ever after bc im cheesy like that

sorry to tom i have no idea why im not invested in the threads kbr have been laying out for him but hopefully that will change. adore him as a character but his trope / storyline hasn’t hooked me so far and tbh i think phoenix is a bad name i wish the love interest was called something different LMAO

sorry that you asked for a simple ranking and i wrote a full essay we all know i can’t be normal about kbr books but i numbered my ramblings for you to make it easier to read (and of course by “read,” i do mean “skip”)

and as for the fic - nooooo i didn’t even know such a thing existed tbh. the last time i checked for addicted / like us fics years ago out of pure curiosity there were like 3 lol. truthfully i likely will never read any. i never ever read fic for a series or couple that is unreleased because it almost always ruins the reading experience for me / i have very little desire to and would much prefer to wait for the real thing. with kbr books in particular i have never felt the need to seek out fanfic because they write so much fan service already (this is usually a diss but i mean it as purely a compliment. they write SUCH entertaining scenes that you could only find in fanfic for any other fandom) and since i have their patreon that is so much bonus content i would never dream of needing more. their stuff is already perfectly written and has such high reread value that ive never felt the need to look for something extra that i felt was lacking from my reading experience

PERSONALLY I am not a big fan of this kind of AU, but that's probably because I prefer animals to people (I'm not a people hater). Besides I always liked more the way how animals can be so expressive, use a lot of body language and you don't need to guess if they're in a good mood or if they'll try to bite or kick you - they make it evident. I'm absolutely AWFUL to understand human body language or social cues, it got me in so much deep trouble several times I literally avoid staying around a bunch of my relatives because of that - and that's because I love them, imagine how it would go if I disliked or hated them???

Also I tend to gravitate towards animals the most because they're sincere and won't lie to you on how they feel. And about cartoons/movies/etc, animals usually represent fantasy, a fantastic different world, another point of view I live for and love to explore. They're an escape for my mind to take a break from our chaotic real world and just... Go back to our roots, y'know? All those jokes like "When I was a child my only worries were my school grades, what we would have for dessert and to finish homework in time for watching my favorite cartoons on TV, I was happy and I didn't know it", like now I have too many "adult worries" such as monthly bills expiring, being unemployed, spending hours at the supermarket doing maths to buy the most I can with little money... Being a freelancer artist is hard as hell, I can barely make a living for my parents and little brother and my pets (I've gone hungry to bed several times before bc I spent my last savings on cat food instead of dinner for myself, also my cat and dog share the cat food bc dog food is more expensive and thank God they eat the cheapest kibble just fine). Right now it's been three weeks I'm staying at my friend Pablo's home to recover from a crisis of malnutrition. I am literally here to be properly fed and regain weight and strength. I think I can go back home next week.

So, sometimes I just... Don't want to worry. And then I go for animals. Their only worries are when I'll feed them, if we can play together now or in five minutes, and if I'll sleep next to them in the living room that night or not (they can't sleep in the bedroom XD). Their life is so much more simple and I like that kind of simplicity.

Also I draw animals better than humans too LOL (even if my mom will disagree with me on that, she says my humans are just as good nowadays)

With all that being said, I also find humanized AUs interesting in their own way when they're well written. Sometimes it's hard to adapt things, a lot of stuff that works with animals won't work with humans just as well or will be viewed as weird. I like to come up with furry AUs sometimes, they're sort of humanized, but still retaining their animal traits. But when people do their research, pour their love and soul in it, work on the little things to make it all click together, a nice carefully written human AU will appeal to me almost as much as the original source any day.

As for appearance headcanons? Oh well XD I'm not sure I can answer that so quickly - I like to take my time and do a lot of research, try sketching stuff to see if it works well or not... I'll owe you the answer for now, alright? I'll show up someday with another post listing my headcanons for a human AU on the pups.

how do you think alysanne would feel about gay targcest? because while i can believe the conqueror trio and jaehaerys see their incestuous traditions as a means to establish dominance over non-valyrians and produce pure-blooded dragon riders, alysanne always came off like she bought into the "romance" of it all. like if baelon ever came to her and admitted that he loves aemon more than he ever could alyssa, would she internally accept that as real love (even if not a politically convenient love) or would she insist that real targcest makes inbred babies and two brothers fucking each other is just a step too far for some reason?

okay first of all. fuck george for never giving us explicit mm targcest. i love rhaena the lesbian i think she’s a fascinating insight in valyrian gender roles and also she’s just a wildly interesting character. but she’s not enough dammit we need more queers. george stop being such a jersey boy and write anal. stop being afraid of penises george you're a grown ass married man.

second of all and keeping in mind i don't have f&b in front of me bc it's always checked out on libby. okay see i need to caveat this bc obviously there are different reactions to gay women vs gay men. but our only frame of reference here is RHAENA. (and laenor but alysanne didn’t know he was gay bc he was only like 4 when she died, LAENOR probably didn’t even know he was gay yet) and the thing is. they all know she’s gay! and no one seems to…care? alysanne & jaehaerys are happy when rhaena married androw but that’s bc it means she gets to live with ELISSA forever now. j&a aren’t like androw stans they don’t give a shit about that dude. they all seem very aware of who rhaena’s various girlfriends are! there’s no report of alysanne ever having a problem with this! it’s not like she showed up after the poisoning and was like “well maybe if you bedded your husband more often this never would have happened” does she? her problems with rhaena are all rooted in their PERSONALITIES in their TRAUMA like she’s not even recorded to have made some sort of nasty comment about any of Rhaena's lovers. in fact, the people who had an issue with Rhaena's lovers were a) the fathers of her girlfriends or b) Rhaena's own husband. Alysanne (and, to be fair, Jaehaerys) seems to view this whole ting more as like. Well that's just Rhaena, she's a bit odd. I think it adds to the almost Inhuman Beauty of Rhaena in a way - she's so larger than life, even her love can't be confined to the simple dichotomy of husband-and-wife, no she prefers her ladies instead (I was thinking of like, Lady Hideko from The Handmaiden - how the con artist mentions that there's a coldness to her that she could never be seduced by a man. An almost ethereal beauty there that is tied to the fact that she is not attracted to men).

What I think is key here is that a) they're both Valyrians b) Rhaena is her sister and Alysanne loves her despite the issues they have c) Rhaena "does her duty" and has a child by her Valyrian brother. SO. In my opinion, I think the specific scenario of Baelon coming to her and saying he doesn't love Alyssa, he loves Aemon, I think she would buy into the romantic nature of it. I think she would absolutely insist that he marry Alyssa anyway, if only to protect him from rumors and keep it like, ~in the family~ the way Rhaena and Aegon did, but if they only ever had Viserys, I think she would be okay with that. I think she would paint Alyssa as his "protector" in her mind - that fondness she saw between them wasn't her and Jaehaerys reborn after all, but perhaps more of the dynamic Rhaena likely wanted with Aegon (but reversed). Which isn't to say this won't devolve into a weird dynamic - the thing about this is that Alysanne isn't just projecting her own relationship onto her kids, she's projecting Rhaena & herself as well (imo Viserra gets the brunt of this) and Alysanne wanting her kids to playact a scenario where Rhaena is happily brother-married and living her best lesbian life still has just, so many openings to get really deranged. I think Jocelyn would face a lot of issues here. I think Alyssa might be allowed a level of GNC-ness that she isn't allowed in the books, but there's a trade off here where Alyssa is essentially playing Aegon the Uncrowned's role - and if she isn't happy with that, Alysanne would get upset. I think it's not unlikely Baelon doesn't get that "the Brave" epithet because he gets very force-femmed as a way to protect Aemon's reputation.

If Baelon was in love with like, some random household knight, that imo would upset Alysanne. But in love with Aemon? I do think she could make herself happy projecting onto that one.

Taking Choso out on a date with so many First Experiences that he gets overwhelmed

You're out getting street food which he has never seen, smelled or eaten in his entire 150 years of existence but upon tasting all the rich flavours his eyes widen and sparkle.

You're buying him sweet fruity bubble tea (with popping bubbles) because he mentioned that he prefers sweet tastes. And the first time a bubble pops in his mouth his face turns inot that a toddler grasping the concet of cake and gifts on a birthday.

You take him to the cinema and the first movie he watches is some stupid rom com with you that he probably doesn't really like that much (because he didn't pay attention to the actual plot and instead focused on you) but if you asked him he'll say he loved it just to see you smile happily.

The butterflies he experiences are overwehlming and he doesn't really know how to behave.

When you walk home afterwards you take his hand and he's IMPLODING. His face shows his blush. He's so inexperienced that he squeezes your hand softly before asking if you know the feeling he's experiencing right now, going into detail of describing the butterflies in his stomach, the soft lump in his throat, the tightening in his chest, the sweaty palms.

You find it so adorable that you simply nod before pulling him down a little and giving his cheek a kiss, asking how that made him feel.

He's so dumbfounded and flabbergasted that your question takes a whole minute to register.
