Ohh dude I may be an idiot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something was always off to me about the few parts we see Lenore and Theo interacting. It's her hair. Her hair is completely black. I thought it was a genetic thing, but her hair only goes dual-toned after Theo's death
Her hair turns white from stress after her brother dies

hey girl!!! I think ur still writing for jake from b99 (hopefully) so i was wondering if i could request him with a reader who's on her period and she's working, jake brings her home and comforts her (cause her cramps are rlly bad) <3
jake peralta x fem!reader
cw : reader is described as female, reader has truly bad cramps
𝐍𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍
Tumblr media
as a woman, one of the necessities of life was making sure you could function during your period.
if you didn't have a way to cope, it was hard, or almost impossible to do day to day tasks such as going to work.
and you had your emergency kit in your desk drawer. heating pad, tampons, spare underwear, pads and some pills your doctor had prescribed to you when you explained how bad your cramps could get.
and while you would usually replenish your kit a few days before your period started, you hadn't expected the wave of cramps that overtook you as you sat at your desk.
"shit-" you muttered under your breath when you felt the first one.
you were quick to open your drawer and look for the familiar yellow bottle, only to find it empty.
your stomach dropped and another cramp rolled through your abdomen.
you couldn't do much about it now, only put on a heating pad, change your underwear and put on a pad.
so that's exactly what you did. you grabbed your necessary supplies and headed towards the bathroom, making an extra effort to walk straight instead of hunched over.
you felt a pair of eyes on you briefly but just ignored it, knowing your priority at the moment.
when you returned to your desk, heating pad in place over your abdomen, you felt a tiny bit better, but the cramps were still coming fierce and fast.
it must've been the crease in your brow that alerted jake of your discomfort because after a few moments you saw a figure sit down at the side of your desk.
you picked your eyes up to find his familiar brown eyes. a soft smile settled briefly on your lips.
" what's up ?" you questioned, dropping your pen down on your desk quietly as to not aggravate the headache you could feel forming.
" you doing okay ?" he questioned, his voice quiet and comforting.
you should've known jake would notice you acting off. he knew you too well not to notice.
" yeah, i'm fine-" you paused momentarily when you felt a stabbing pain in your lower back. " just cramps "
early on in your relationship jake had found out just how bad your cramps could be. after you had to cancel a date last minute saying you were unwell and he showed up to your apartment with takeout. you had just been honest with him and told him you got really bad cramps.
he wasn't rude or grossed out, he just asked how he could help and you ended the night curled on your couch with his arm draped over your stomach, his palm splayed out under your t-shirt on your abdomen.
since that night he had always been there when you needed him to be.
" v'you taken anything ?" he questioned, his voice still slightly hushed.
" haven't replenished my prescription "
a small hiss came from his lips as he took in the repercussions of you not having the thing that made these few days more bearable for you.
" d'you want me to go and refill it for you ?" his suggestion made your heart melt and you reached your hand over to squeeze his hand lightly.
" it's okay, i can wait a couple hours. can we go by the pharmacy on the way home, though ?" you asked to which he nodded immediately.
he gave your hand a small squeeze, giving you a comforting smile before he departed back to his own desk.
you thought you could wait until the end of the work day, but your cramps only worsened over the next hour.
you couldn't focus on your case reports over the stabbing pain through your body.
" c'mon i'm taking you home "
you lifted your head to find jake stood by your desk, his jacket on and his bag over his shoulder.
" jake, you don't have to do this. i'm fine, and we've both got st-"
" would you just let me do this for you? i talked to holt and he's giving you the afternoon off and i'm taking you home. " the way he said it left almost no room for discussion. he was taking you home and that was the end of it.
you didn't debate with him, just pulled your jacket over your shoulders and picked up your bag.
his hand slipped easily into yours as the two of you walked out of the precinct and down towards the parking lot.
the drive back to your apartment wasn't a long one, it felt a lot better after jake hopped out at the pharmacy and returned to the car with your prescription in his hand along with a bottle of water.
when you arrived home, jake told you to go and shower, change and get settled on the couch while he made some tea.
you were quick to go into your bedroom, grab one of jake's t-shirts and a pair of long pyjama pants and get take them into the bathroom.
your shower was quick but definitely made you feel a bit better. when you stepped out you changed into the clothes you had gotten out and walked out into the living room.
you found jake sat on the couch on his phone, a mug of tea on the coffee table beside a hot water bottle and one of your cosiest blankets on the couch.
nothing was said as you sat down and leant into jake's frame, his arms wrapping around you swiftly. he simply offered you the remote and made minimal comments when you put on a film you both enjoyed.
though as much as you enjoyed it, your head went limp against jake's chest within the first half an hour.

The Taiga files
Tumblr media
Taiga likes sweet foods. She has a record of eating over 500 chocolate bars without gaining much weight. This has to do with her high metabolism levels and muscle density.
Taiga has a hypnotizing voice. Most of the women in her family have something called "Canto delle Sirene" (Song of the Sirens). Many who are aware of the Sogno bloodline (Taiga's mother's maiden name) believe that Maria Sogno (a ghostly woman who dwells in Italy's waters) was a siren and/or succubus.
Taiga will wake up in the middle of the night just to talk to Douma. She enjoys his company and admires his strength.
Tumblr media
Taiga admiring Douma while he duels with Akaza.
Similar to Muzan, Taiga is very open about her favoritism. (But she's much nicer about it) Whenever Taiga goes to the uppermoon meetings, she rarely talks to anybody but Douma and Kokushibo.
Taiga accidentally called Kokushibo "Dad" once, she was embarrassed about it for weeks and did her best to avoid him by hiding behind Douma.
It was literally that one episode of Brooklyn 99 when Peralta calls Captain Holt "dad"
Taiga barely acknowledges Akaza, constantly getting his name wrong and looking down at him (just like Muzan is with literally anybody 💀). She's only polite to him because of how Douma considers him a "friend"
Tumblr media
“What are you, some sort of clown? What's with the shitty tattoos and the pink hair? You look stupid.”
Taiga is the polar opposite when she sees Douma. She acts much sweeter with the blonde more than anybody else. Obviously she respects Kokushibo. (and clearly sees him as family)
Tumblr media
“You're so amazing, Douma! Your blood art is so pretty. I wish mine was like that!”
“Too bad the others can't amount to your talent” *stares directly at Akaza with a shit-eating grin*
This obviously pisses a lot of the other moons off. (except for Koku, Nakime, and Muzan, they just tune it out like mature adults)
Taiga can only cook Italian foods, and even then she struggles with it. She can make hella good wine, though!
She often gives Douma the wine to bathe in.
Taiga's love language is giving gifts and physical affection, she loves to show how much she cares through actions. She's no good at verbal affirmations, but that won't stop her from calling a certain blonde cunt the most perfect being alive.
When Taiga refers to Douma as perfect, she isn't talking about the whole god-whisperer bullshit. She's talking about him as a person.
In a nutshell, she's down bad. Down very, very bad.
Tumblr media
Taiga really, really likes animals. She's always been able to communicate well with many different kinds of critters, from giant grizzly bears to tiny weasels.
Taiga has often brought small rodents like possums and raccoons to the Eternal Paradise cult, much to the members dismay.
She actually kept a pet mouse named Algernon, which freaked everyone out.
When Douma was informed of this by terrified cultists, he burst out laughing. Never would he have expected Taiga to do something like that!
Tumblr media
When Taiga first began to work undercover, she took a Demon Slayer uniform from one of Doma's midnight snacks and followed a certain checkered haori to HQ, where she crashed into a hashira meeting Die Hard style.
Tanjiro had a feeling he was being followed, but had no idea who it was. Taiga is good at hiding in plain sight, so he could only rely on his sense of smell.
She literally broke through a window and flipped her hair in the cuntiest way possible
Kagaya had no idea about Taiga working with Muzan, but the hashira (specifically Shinobu) had a bad feeling about her.
When she got there, she ended up being recognized by Kagaya, who knew her parents from back in the day. (A very long story)
Shinobu was the first one to question her, asking questions about her origins and other stuff.
Taiga simply turned to her and looked at her with the most disrespectful ass response 💀🙏
“Who gave you permission to speak to me? I don't remember asking for your opinion, you disgusting creature. Get out of my sight, you're making me ill.”
Tumblr media
Before anything could actually happen, Kagaya the Chad spoke up.
Shinobu, much to everyone's shock, actually pulled out her sword and tried to attack the strange girl out of pure rage.
This is an ability both Muzan and Taiga have. They can manipulate human emotions with a single gaze or phrase. That's why Shinobu got so angry all of a sudden. No human is completely immune to it.
Taiga (finally) offered her "services" to Kagaya. She said she knew secrets about the uppermoons and Muzan that could aid them in the war.
He asked Taiga in literally the kindest way possible and without a trace of anger to not antagonize Shinobu. Surprisingly, Taiga listened and piped down.
Kagaya, after careful consideration, agreed.
Tumblr media
Taiga got up, pulled a batman and left in a dramatic yet awesome way.
As she was walking back, two unimportant demon slayers had found her and tried to rob. (and potentially assault her)
Tanjiro had been going on another mission when he spotted this. He recognized Taiga's scent and tried to help her.
But he wasn't needed..
When Taiga came back to the cult, she was immediately pulled into a hug by a "worried" Douma.
Her soul left her body. All her brain could think of was "Man tiddies Man tiddies Man tiddies Man tiddies Man tiddies-"
Luckily, Douma let her go before she passed out.
Being the little shit he is, Douma pointed out her red face.
Taiga immediately replied with "it was hot outside 😃" even though it was snowing. Fucking dumbass-
Before Douma could unintentionally push her buttons some more, Nakime teleported a letter to her. It read:
"Send me all the information you gathered. I don't care how you do it, but it must be done quickly."
Muzan can't read Taiga's mind like he can with his uppermoons, he can only sense her emotions and has to guess what she's thinking. (Which pisses him off a lot)

Replaying Nancy Drew without Cheating - Part 8: Danger on Deception Island
Tumblr media
I’m going to go ahead and argue that this game, this charming, riveting, addictive game, is the start of a series of 3-5 games that are universally beloved by the Nancy Drew community. I don’t know many people who don’t genuinely have a nostaglic love for this game, me included. In fact, I would have considered this my second favorite for many many years, right after Treasure in a Royal Tower, which can never be replaced in my heart.
I’m also going to go ahead and tell you: this was the first game that I didn’t feel like I needed to cheat even once. The only thing I slightly struggled with was the anagram puzzle from Hilda (BTW, I have a bone to pick with Nancy’s “handy dandy Anagram Buster.” How is this thing handy dandy? I can do what it does using a sheet of paper. It doesn’t bust anagrams at all. Who would have made such a useless piece of software?) Overall though, I don’t think the puzzles are particularly hard, and there’s always something to do next, so there is very little aimless meandering about in confusion. I’ve also played this a fair number of times, so there’s that too.
This is a classic and will always be one of my absolute favorites. It has some of the coolest, most unique elements out of any game, not to mention a top notch soundtrack, and I can guarantee that I will be replaying this game for many years to come.
Some of my thoughts:
1. I think one thing I like about this game is that it is a lot of looking around/snooping/figuring things out by yourself; the game does not rely on having a bunch of conversations with the suspects. In fact, in this play-through, I was surprised at how little Nancy actually does chat with other characters. There were times I was CRAVING some human interaction, but all I could say to people was “It was nice talking to you,” despite the fact that I hadn’t been TALKING to anyone at all.
2. Weird that the first thing Nancy does in this game is get obsessed with a random piece of driftwood that she finds in the water. Who even is she. I relate less and less to Nancy with each passing game.
3. Once again, fuck Nancy’s anagram buster. I hate anagrams, and I hate false advertising.
4. Katie Firestone will never not be a knock-off, more boring Joanna Riggs to me. She is so whiny and boring that giving her food poisoning actually gives me a goddamn dopamine rush (also, WHY does she have some much expired shit in her fridge anyway? The woman JUST went grocery shopping). Despite the fact that you never actually see her do anything wrong, I don’t blame the town for disliking her. I’d love nothing more than to grab my torch and pitchfork and run her out of Snake Horse Harbor alongside clam chowder queen Jenna Deblin and dungeness crab daddy Holt Scotto.
Tumblr media
5. Speaking of Holt Scotto, someone go and check that man’s cholesterol levels. He must be slowly eating every male dungeness crab within 10 miles of Snake Horse Harbor, based on how he takes all the crabs visitors bring him and cryptically says that he’ll “take care of that crab” for you.
6. The whole storyline of the tunnels under the town and the history of shanghaiing was the best part of this game. Wandering around underground, actually figuring out on your own (without having to be explicitely told) that the burglars had to have been using the tunnels to rob all the local businesses, finding your way into the sea caves - all very fun gameplay.
7. As cool as finding the orca in the sea caves is, I can’t imagine how scared shitless I would be in real life.
Tumblr media
8. Why is Dr. Predoviciu casually the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen? Girl, TELL ME YOUR HAIR CARE ROUTINE!!
Tumblr media
9. After winning a whale watching tour with Andy Jason and taking a bunch of photos, Nancy thanks Andy for letting her use his camera. Uh, is she getting these pictures at any point? Is he going to send her a USB flash drive or some shit? Why didn’t Nancy have her own camera (as a supposedly semi-famous and always prepared amateur detective)?? This makes absolutely no sense to me.
Tumblr media
10. Why do we then basically have to force Andy to give us a keychain after the tour, when the keychain probably costs about 50 cents? The sign says the keychain is free to “everyone who takes our whale watching tour,” NOT to “everyone who PAYS for our whale watching tour.” What a crock of bullshit. For some reason, I had a crush on Andy Jason as a kid (that curly hair! that weirdly buff body!) but this playthrough made me realize that I actually loathe him to my very core.
11. Therefore, there is nothing more satisfying than this moment (not even making Katie Firestone throw up over the side of her boat):
Tumblr media
12. Speaking of the ending, this game may have the best (or at least one of the best) ending sequences of any game. The fact that Nancy goes up to a RANDOM ASS FREIGHT BOAT, in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, CLIMBS ABOARD, has to STEALTHILY HIDE ON DECK TO NOT GET CAUGHT BY POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SMUGGLERS, and then FIND KATIE TIED UP BELOW DECK??? Fucking genius. Amazing. It might be the stupidest thing Nancy ever does (the only person she tells her plan to is ANDY FUCKING JASON, after all, so there is no one who would know where to look should she go missing), but it leads to a high-stakes, adrenaline-pumping last several minutes.
13. Hilda. Hilda MF Swenson. The fact that she calls Nancy the millisecond that Nancy finds whatever she was looking for is absolutely hilarious. Hilda is literally spending her life just watching Nancy’s every move through her binoculars, and giving her convoluted, long-winded puzzles to solve for absolutely no reason. Hilda is a more entertaining character than all the others put together.
Ugh, what a fantastic game. The only thing that is keeping me going after finishing is the knowledge that the next few games are equally as brilliant, so I know that I have much to look forward to. On my way to get screamed at by Shorty for picking a slightly underripe green bean. <3

YOU ARE SO SWEET! So as for my request Can I have a one-shot with Alucard from Castlevania and Phoenix reader? She was great friends with Belmont family but went into a very deep sleep and then the tria found and awakened her before they went to figgt with Dracula. After that she devoted herself to Alucard and stays with him. It's obvious they have feelings, like they hold hands, kiss each others forehead etc. Then Sumi and Taka comes, she senses somerhing evil from them and tries to warn him mulriple times and then he snaps and breaks her heart so she leaves. At that rime The other two prays for help to her, Alucard understand his mistake and prays for her as well before... you know the scene.
So she chooses Alu and literally comes througg the window with her wings and they fight but she gets terribly hurt especially her wings and they stabbed ger heart. But she comes back to life and tease him like "I don't die, remember?"
Something angst and fluffy would be appreciated. I'm sending you big bear hugs and hope that you will be able to write my request soon, because there is almost no one who writes for my baby! 🥰🤧
This took a long ass time to write lol I changed some things but I really like how it came out! Enjoy❤️❤️

My Angel
Summary: You and Adrian have an disagreement about two new guest residing in the castle.
Word Count: 1.9k
His beauty was almost intimidating. Silky blonde hair, that you love to gently run your fingers through. Golden eyes that have seen so much pain and suffering. His skin was pale and flawless, long faded scar across his chest only adding to his perfection.
Adrian likes to lie and say that your beauty goes beyond his. In his eyes, you’re an earthbound angel sent to him as a gift. Not only just referring to your perfect face or body, but the large wings that sprout from your back.
White wings with light brown roots, that usually lay folded on your back when you aren’t using them. There’s been some embarrassing incidents between you and Adrain, mainly dealing with your feathers. Sometimes they’ll get ruffled and need to be smoothed in a place you can’t reach, leading you to drag yourself to his doorstep, desperately trying to avoid eye contact as you ask him for help.
Choosing to live with Adrian after he was forced to kill his father, you two have been through a lot together. So the switch from constantly moving to a domestic lifestyle was an odd but welcomed change.
Sitting at the kitchen table watching him gracefully move through the kitchen was always so entertaining. His hair fell in soft waves over his shoulder, but never seemed to get in his way.
“You could always help you know.” He spoke with his back to you, as he bent over peeking at the fish in the oven.
“I would only get in your way,” You threw back, a perverse smirking finding its way onto your face. “Besides, the view is much more appealing from over here.”
He snaps upright, casting a playful glare your way. “Go clear the table, and your filthy mind.”
Standing to gather the books you had on the table, you pile them on the counter. The research materials from the Belmont Hold was always so fascinating, you constantly found yourself entranced with the knowledge contained in the pages.
Adrian doesn’t like to admit it, but he’s a bit jealous of your admiration for Trevor Belmont’s Hold rather than the vast scientific knowledge his father has collected. You try not to acknowledge the petty rivalry, but think it’s sort of endearing.
Opening the cabinet to get the plates and silverware. He moves behind you, gently pushing past your wings. His presence stays near you, and you feel his fingers run across the middle of your right wing.
“Adrian!” Letting out a loud giggle as you push yourself further into the counter, trying to escape his attack. He laughs at your wiggling, and the way you unconsciously flap your wings.
He seized his attack, his hands finding their way around your waist. He rests his chin on your neck and pulls you back so your wings are flush against his back. Leaving a soft kiss on your neck, you run your hand down his cheek caressing the soft skin.
Comfortable silence fills the room as you both basking in each other's presence.
—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—
Those twins were up to something, you just had this bad feeling in your gut.
Taka and Sumi were their name, and their story was heartbreaking. And you felt sorry for the suffering that they were forced to go through. It was easy to see that they were extremely desperate, and you know all too well how desperate people can do awful things.
Adrian, on the other hand, welcomed the two into his home with open arms. Cooking for them, training with them, and even brought them into the Belmont Hold.
They constantly asked about moving the castle, making you even more suspicious of their true nature.
Adrian didn’t want to listen to any of your concerns though. “You’re simply overreacting.”
“Overreacting? Adrian you just met these people, you don’t know them!” He rolled his eyes brushing past you.
“I will not listen to you if you’re going to yell.”
Reaching out you grabbed his arm to stop him from leaving, “Please Adrian. I know you feel like this is what your mother would have wanted.”
“I just don’t want you to place your trust into people who will only end up hurting you in the end.” You trail off, eyes searching his for a hint of understanding.
He yanks his arm out of your grasp, “I think I already have.” His words hit you harder than you thought they would.
“What?” Is all you manage to say, his glare hurting you as much as his venomous words.
“I am passing down the knowledge of the world to two people who want to use it to help others.” He pauses, looking away. “If you can’t want to accept that, then maybe you should go.”
The tense silence that fills the room weighs heavily between you two.
An eternity passes and you manage to hold your tears back, straightening your back and put on a strong face.
“Fine.”
Your feet feel heavy as you walk past him, pausing at the door for a moment. You prayed that he would pull you away from the door, tell you how much you mean to him and how he needed you to stay.
When that moment never came, you yanked the door open and left the blonde alone with his thoughts. “Goodbye, Alucard.” He visibly flinched at the use of his other title.
If he wanted to push you away to act like the people’s hero, then so be it.
Packing a small sack of clothing, food, and money that would last you at least a week. But the nearest town was only a three days flight away, so it should be enough. You didn’t know where you were going to go, but you didn’t really think that far. Pride tended to lead you to make rather drastic decisions without thinking.
You couldn’t see Adrian standing by any of the windows, giving you even more initiative to open your wings and take flight, leaving the man alone with his new friends.
—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—•—
A few hours of flying gave you some time to think and maybe you had overreacted. If he felt he was doing his dead mother justice by helping strangers in need, then who were you to stop him.
He needed some sort of closure after all the trauma he had suffered, and perhaps passing down this knowledge would help him mentally.
‘I really hate my big mouth sometimes.’ You thought mentally slapping yourself for all the awful accusations you made about the twins.
If you turned around right now, you could make it back before the sun rises. Swallow your pride and apologize to Adrian for being awful, and try to help him in any way you can. He’s been through enough and needs someone to help him.
“Shit!” You growled out, wings fluttering to a holt before spinning around and flying back.
It’s been a few months since you’ve flown this long, obvious from the slight ache coming from your wings. But despite your cramping muscles you still pushed through, moving faster through the air.
Two hours of flying south, turned into only an hour back north. It didn’t take much longer til you could see the trail leading up to the castle through the trees. A feeling of dread used to wash over you at its sight, but now filled your heart with joy.
Adrian’s three bedroom windows sat on the top floor, and despite his vampire blood he slept at night. The sun was full set now, meaning that he was most likely in his room. Only a few more minutes flying until you reached the castle.
This was a perfect opportunity for a dramatic entrance. Like something you’ve read in one of those romance novels in the library. Land on his window seal, large wings casting a dark shadow across his room waking him from his slumber. He would rush to open his window and you would collapse into his arms, sorrow filled words as you apologized for your cruelty. He would have one of his witty comebacks and embrace you in return.
Your daydream was ruined when you caught sight of multiple bodies on his bed. Instantly recognizing the two naked bodies as the twins.
Abruptly, you seized your flying choosing to not get any closer. Wings flapping to keep you in the air as you stared in horror at the imagery in front of you. Bodies entwining together with a sheen layer of sweat. The light skin woman moves to the side, exposing the naked pale beauty beneath her.
Your heart pounded in your ears, brain and heart struggling to agree on what to do. Part of you wanted to fly away, continue your journey. But another part of you wanted to throw a fit, scream at the half vampire for hurting you like this.
The pale body made a fast movement, his torso jerking off the bed slightly. But something about it didn’t seem right, the twins were sitting upright looking down at Adrian. The jerks at first appeared to be fits of pleasure, are clearly out of distress.
The twins pulled out daggers, exposing their true motives. Without think you flew towards the window, there was no time to run up to his room. Moving to enter through the window on the left of his bed, you prayed you would be fast enough.
“Adrian!” Your screams were dorwned out by the crashing of bokeh glass. Landing on the burgundy carpet, you groan in pain, thick drops of blood stained the ground around you. Shards of glass fall from your wings, some stuck withing the muscle.
Running over to the bed, the twins no longer sit above the half blood. Instead the two lay flat on there backs, pool of red spilling from their twitching lips. A floating swords with a thin trail of blood leers above the bed.
Despite the pain you staggered over to Adrians still form. His head turned to the side, splatter of blood across his cheek. Blonde hair spills over his eyes blocking his true expression.
“Dear God! Adrian…” There were heavy silver wires wrapped around him that must have been tying him down to the bed.
Loosened drastically by the twins losing control of the magic weapon, you were able to peel them away from the man. Carefully trying to avoid having the silver coming in contact with his skin, but based on the scarred tissue it probably didn’t matter.
“I shouldn’t have left,” your voice wavered at the empty look in his eyes. Hollow like a corpse, a broken doll.
He layed limply, allowing you to move him around. You move onto the bed, feeling him flinch at your close proximity. Moving back slightly, you pull his white sheet over his body. There’s a moment of silence before you hear a soft exhale of breath leave his body. Followed by another, then another. Soon he’s shaking besides you, tears flow freely down his cheeks.
Turning on his side, he reaches out to grip your sleeve bringing your hand closer to his face. As much as you long to hold him, you know he needs time so you allow him to touch you however he's comfortable with. He clutches your hand close to his face, you feel the wetness of his cheeks.
The moon shines down on both of you.
Sobs fill the icy night air, making it clear that God has long since abandoned this castle.

hair color:  blonde
height: 5′3
sexuality: bisexual
birthday: january 19, 1995 ( capricorn )
BIO
regan’s mother was never the type to settle down. before meeting morpheus, her longest relationship had been three months. so when the guy seemed commitment-phobic, that was perfect for her. until, of course, she found out she was pregnant. she didn’t want to get married but she was at an age where the idea of motherhood...didn’t repulse her. so she wanted to keep the baby, at which point the father of her child didn’t get down on one knee, he started to explain the kinds of responsibilities she’d face as the mother of his child.
having the child of a god in her womb inflated her ego, which was pretty impressive considering how big it already was. see, regan’s mother was a southern belle without any of the class or manners. she’d breezed through the pageant circuit as a teen, winning a number of titles with minimal effort. her talent was essentially crying on demand and looking pretty while doing it. knowing she’d slept with a god, like an honest to...god felt sort of fitting. like, duh, who else would she have her first child with?
this also led to a brief but intense fixation with shakespeare, who name dropped gods like it was his job, which led to her choosing the name regan from king lear.
she moved to pennsylvania with regan when her daughter was only four years old, because some guy practically begged her to let him take care of her, and she had nowhere better to go. until, eventually, she did, thanks to the world of avon. her mother started selling out of boredom but then it turned out she was good at it, so good that she could easily buy a place once she got bored of her rich boyfriend, and move out with regan.
thankfully, her mother got out of the pyramid scheme before she got in too deep. she was hired by an actual, reputable cosmetics company and given a desk job to work in sales, which she was still a natural at. because she had a full time job now, regan spent a lot of time with nannies...and that’s nannies plural because regan was one of those kids who drove her caretakers to quit on a regular basis.
but not because she was a handful. she was pretty self-sufficient, actually, and totally well-behaved, she was just kind of...weird. she’d leave her room for dinner with all of her clothes suddenly on backwards and say nothing as if it was normal and act confused when her nanny asked about it. she’d stare at the tv when it was off, she’d spend one day only speaking in whispers, she’d write vaguely threatening messages on the mirror with her mother’s red lipstick.
all of this was because regan knew it was scary to adults, which made it fun for her. she wasn’t, like, actually disturbed. well, aside from the dreams she had sometimes. she’d have a dream about a baby bird falling from a nest, she’d watch its chest move for minutes before it died, then she’d wake up the next day and find a dead bird outside the sliding glass doors to the backyard.
for a while she thought they were coincidences. then she thought she was making things happen in her sleep, and that it was her job to stop bad things from happening, to save every baby bird that asked for help in her dreams. it took her a few years to accept that just because she sometimes saw the future didn’t mean she had any power to change it. she was warned so she could prepare herself, which only made her feel more powerless.
but being regan, she chose to cope with this aspect of her life with avoidance and humor. she doesn’t want to pick and choose what she worries about and what she doesn’t, so she decided a long time ago not to take anything seriously.
for reasons unknown, regan’s mother actually decided to have another child after regan. but she was unconventional, too, hence regan being...the way she is, so she never actually married the father of regan’s half-brother, but they have been together for the past 15 years, so.
her brother is eleven years younger than she is, so in regan’s mind, a baby. whenever left with the task of babysitting him while the two were growing up, it would be regan who suggested ice cream for breakfast and sock sliding around the living room at dangerous speeds.
RANDOM FACTS
i want to v*mit saying this but.....she’s kind of like........the female version of stevesuptic. except for she’s cute <3
her entire twitch account is kind of satirical, like it’s very hard to gauge what her actual personality is. i don’t think her viewers bully her the way they bully steve bc she would bully them back LMAO but they ask her a lot of random ass super weird sometimes borderline disturbing questions and she answers them like it’s normal
she def has weird/creepy drawings whenever playing gartic phone tho /:
ig you could say her channel is like shit posting but make it a streamer. she has a really nice set up and she always looks made up in her streams but then the content is her playing like a cat dating sim for four hours
she’s actually pretty shit at most games that require any level of skill and her following comes entirely from her personality and her Brand ig, she’s just entertaining to watch bc she says and does the most ??? things. like she’s not a gamer girl and doesn’t say she is she just has a twitch and plays games for the attention
also she has a cat named muffintop (best part of the muffin, not the offensive term for a woman’s stomach, though she will say that’s what it means if someone asks) who she regularly posts memes of and like most of her twitch emotes are her cat. you can find examples on her pinterest board lmao
i think it’s pretty hard to get an actual vision out of regan? she mostly keeps those to herself and just lies about her dreams. she’ll just be like, “yeah actually i had a dream you were gonna choke on some oatmeal so stay safe out there.” she’s also only partially sure when a dream is actually about the future.
her like <3 symbol that represents her is butterflies, she has a ton of butterfly shit
POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS
idk if i am requesting a roommate for once, idk if i wanna subject anyone to that
someone naive who believes her any time she says something is Going To Happen, no matter how stupid it is and no matter how many times things simply do not happen??
a bestie because...............................i just feel like she wormed her way into someone’s inner circle and they’re just stuck with her now

Doctor Harry XXXII. The End of the Road
A/N: This is it folks! The end of the road... I want to thank you all for every message and for that, especially my love anon (now not anon anymore) because seriously you’ve been the wind blowing on my sail.
Also like I’ve said, I’m all in for blurbs into Harry’s and Indie’s life together so I might surprise you with some when you least expect them ;) Thank you thank you thank you
Tumblr media
BLUE’S POV
My hands are sticky and trembling as I wait on the line. The dim lights really give the café such a cosy sense to it and the dark brown of the furniture and the bricks also make it look like you were inside an auburn tree. It also smells delicious, like cookies and cinnamon and berries deliciously mixed with the strong scent of coffee.
My heart stops beating as I stand before her with just the desk and the vintage looking cashier between us. She hasn’t yet looked at me when she asks.
“What would you like to have, dea-?”
Her tone dies down when her hazel eyes finally set on me and mine investigate hers as I swallow the lump in my throat.
“Indie.” She whispers.
I give her a timid smile. Dylan’s mum calls someone named Molly and asks her to take care of the cashier as she comes out from behind the desk. She’s wearing an apples-pattern apron tied around her waist and her hair, shorter now than ever, is barely coming out of a low ponytail on the back of her neck. She lets out what could be described as a nervous chuckle when she stands closer to me. I can tell she doesn’t know how to greet me so I give her a hug. Her arms wrap around me and I feel her sighing against my chest.
“Let me get us a cup of coffee and a muffin.”
I stand there watching her work and hold the cute lilac plate with the huge muffin when she tells me and she takes both our coffee cups with tiny plates underneath to a table near one of the windows. It’s raining outside but it’s nice to watch and hear the rain from inside the café. The fire is lit so it’s nice and warm inside too.
“The place looks lovely, Amalia.”
“Thank you.” She smiles. “You look stunning.”
I smile at her before I add some sugar to my coffee and stir it with my teaspoon. She does the same.
“It’s very nice to see you. This muffin right here is called Indie Blue.” She grins. “It’s got vanilla and blueberries.”
I nod and smile at her but I’m sure she can tell my eyes get teary. I don’t deserve this. The fact that after three years, Dylan’s mother still makes a muffin and names it after me, when all I’ve done is… Move on just breaks my heart.
“How are you, love?” She sets her hand over mine. “Tell me about Med school.”
“I’m good.” I lie. “Med school is fine. It’s getting harder every year but I like it more every year too so that’s good. I feel like we’re all growing up so fast though. I mean Olivia’s leaving, Jason too…”
It almost surprises me how I can still talk to her as if we were family. I guess in a way we are. We went through the loss of Dylan together. She helped me and I think I helped her too, so I think we will always be somehow connected.
“Where are they leaving?”
She grabs a fork and eats some of the muffin after she took the paper of it and I eye the fork she set in front of me. Her kind eyes don’t leave mine and she looks so much like Dylan, even though the colour of their eyes is different, the way they look is the same so I can’t look into her eyes for too long. They look at you as if you were the most interesting person in the room, it doesn’t matter what you’re saying, you can talk about garden dwarfs and still be interesting to them.
“Olivia’s going to Paris. She’s very excited. She wants to be a gynaecologist and she got an internship on the maternal unit so she’s very happy. And Jason’s going to the States. He’s only going to be gone for three months, thank God.” I chuckle.
“Not long.” She grins.
“What about you? How are you and Robert?”
“We’re good, yeah. Robert’s back on the road. He went back last year and I’ve been good, pretty busy with the café and the organisation.”
My eyes drop to the muffin between us when she mentions that and I take a forkful and bring it to my mouth.
“I’m also babysitting now. D’you remember the Holts next door?” I nod. “Well, they had a baby and I stay with her sometimes.”
“Nice. I bet she’s cute.”
“She is so cute, so chubby too.” She giggles.
I giggle and fear the moment when our conversation will die enough so that she would ask me why I came. I don’t need a reason to come see her and I could always say I just wanted to catch up with her, but this woman knows me like my Mum does and I know she knows there’s something I want to tell her.
She asks me about my Mum too but I know they still talk and she tells me about Caroline, Jess and Sean. She keeps in touch with them too and it’s nice to hear life’s good for them. Sometimes I’m sad I lost contact with them after Dylan’s loss but it was just too hard to see them. It was like I couldn’t stop thinking about who was missing.
“How are you, really, Blue?” She asks.
I know what she means. I take a deep breath. There goes nothing.
“I met someone.”
My voice croaks and I didn’t know the tears were so close to falling until they roll down my cheeks. I wipe them away and try my best not to sob and even though her eyes are teary too, her hand rests on mine again and her thumb caresses the back of my hand.
“I’m very happy for you.”
My eyebrows meet and I shake my head. I knew she would be.
“I just wish I could talk to him. I want to tell him I haven’t forgotten about him. I never will…” I let the tears roll down my cheeks. “I love him but… I’ve just been… So lonely and it’s been so hard and I wasn’t looking for him, he just… Showed up and… I don’t know, I guess you’re the closest thing I have to Dylan now… And I needed to take this off my chest, to explain myself to you, I… I wish he hadn’t died, I wish that every day, but he did and I have to stay here and live without him and I thought I had to that alone but… Maybe I don’t?”
“Indie, Robert and I want nothing more than for you to be happy. We love you. And so did Dylan, I know he did, but like you said, you have to live, darling.” She smiles. “He’d be happy.”
I can’t hold it in anymore so I hide my face behind my hands and full on cry. She brings a chair next to mine and wraps her arm around my shoulders and just let me cry like she has done so many times before.
“I miss him.” I confess. “There are so many things I want to tell him every day, you know. I want him to see that Coco’s in love, that I got an A in Paediatrics, that Rio is working at the bank.”
“He is seeing that.” Her arm squeezes me closer to her. “He’s taking care of us. I know you miss him, honey. So do I, but he would want us to go on.”
“Yes, I know.”
“He would be very proud of you. I hope you know that.”
“I just want him to know I love him, I always will, even if I love someone else. It doesn’t change who he is to me.”
“I know.”
She gives me some tissues and I cry over her son’s absence as she rests her cheek on my head and caress my arm. She’s always been a lot stronger than I am and she’s always been a rock to rest upon when I felt I couldn’t go on anymore. When I calm down enough, she sits back in front of me and gives me a small smile.
“Will you tell me about him?”
I can see him in her and somehow by telling her, I feel like I’m confessing it to him too.
“There’s not much to tell now” I raise my eyebrows “it didn’t work out.”
“What? Why?”
I shake my head and shrug as if I didn’t know why when I perfectly know what happened. I tell her a little about him though and she asks mum-like questions and even laughs at some of the stories I tell her.
After about an hour of chatting, we both call it a day and I go home to my dad and siblings. I didn’t tell them the real reason why Harry didn’t come. I told them he eventually got caught up with work and if they didn’t believe it they pretended they did.
The Golden Girls have been checking on me daily but even though I’m heartbroken, I’m somehow calmed. I talked to Amalia and I told Harry what I needed to tell him so I guess I just have this feeling of having been honest with everyone and I don’t feel guilty anymore.
I’m brushing my hair on my pyjamas after the shower when Ollie calls.
“Hi, babe” she chirps. “How is everything at Capitol? How’s your dad?”
“Good.” I tell her. “Yeah, he’s doing great. You wouldn’t tell he had an aortic dissection.”
We both chuckle.
“I knew it. Your dad’s strong like a bull.” She giggles.
“How are you?”
“I’m good. I got a call from Paris. Do you remember I did the interview on Skype?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Well, they just called me.” She sighs. “I got it.”
So she’s officially leaving. Oh, man, I’m going to miss her so much.
“Indie?”
“Yes.” I get my shit together. “Well, that’s great, Ollie! I’m so happy for you! I won’t lie to you, I’m going to miss you like crazy but I’m happy for you.”
“Maybe you don’t have to miss me…” She says.
“What? What do you mean?”
“I rejected it.”
“WHAT? Where does this change of heart comes from?”
“I don’t know… I’ve just been thinking… Paris is so far away…”
Oh, no. She’s as head over heels in love as I am… It must be the time for us Golden Girls…
“You did it for Mario, didn’t you?”
There’s a certain silence on her end but I can hear her breathing.
“Maybe.”
I smile.
“So you guys are like together for real?”
“Yes… Aren’t we?”
I chuckle.
“Oh, no, don’t ask me! Did you two talk about this? Does he know you took the internship down for him?”
“Of course not! I didn’t do it for him! Olivia Bassot doesn’t reject internships for anyone! I did it for myself.”
“Because you want to be with him.”
“That’s right but still it was for me, not for him.”
“Okay, yeah, great.” I laugh. “May I know what made you change your mind?”
She sighs.
“Actually, I don’t quite know. It’s just when they told me I got it, I wasn’t happy, you know? So I thought wait, I don’t have to go, I don’t have to prove anything to anybody.”
“That’s right.” I smile. “I won’t lie, Ollie, I’m fucking happy.”
She laughs.
“Me too, babe. Now I gotta go, I’m telling Mario tonight. Wish me luck.”
“What do you mean wish me luck? He’s gonna be thrilled!”
“He better.” She laughs. “Anyway, gotta go. Love you!”
“Love you.”
Well, at least there are some good news. Wrapped up on my thick woollen stay at home cardigan, I make my way downstairs where I guess my family awaits. Rio’s reading a book near the fireplace and Coco’s walking towards the door.
“Are you expecting someone?” She asks me.
I shake my head and stare at the door from the bottom of the stairs. My dad shows up at the kitchen door and tells me he made pumpkin and sweet potato cream and I’m about to thank him when my sister opens the door.
“Blue, look who’s here!”
My mouth and my eyes open wide. My heart beats hard and fast against my ribs and my breathing stops until I feel tingling all over my skin.
It’s Harry.
“Hello, Blue.”
I deflate like a balloon when I hear his voice and my breathing resumes. I almost have to hold on to the railing of the stairs so as not to fall. There he is, calm and unfaced, standing right next to my sister and looking stunning on blue jeans and a dark brown sweater underneath his opened grey coat. His hair is a messy mane of curls on top of his head but his warm signature dimply smile is nowhere to be found. That’s the only reason that I don’t run towards him and kiss him.
Hello, Blue. No hello, baby or hello, love. Hello, Blue. Anyone here in Capitol could have said that… But he’s here. He’s cold, but he’s here. That’s already something and I don’t know why I’m complaining.
“Oh, Harry!” My dad walks towards him and offers him his hand. “It’s nice to meet you. Blue said you got caught up with work.”
His green eyes search for mine before he looks back at my dad. I don’t know what he’s thinking.
“I was indeed caught up with work but… I got off the hook last minute.”
“That’s great! Isn’t that great, Blue? But get in here!” My dad urges me. “Greet him, honey.”
I clear my throat and run a hand through my hair as I walk closer to him. Harry doesn’t take his eyes off me but he’s seemingly unaffected by my presence. I’m afraid of his greeting. If he flinches I might cry. I don’t know whether he read my note or not but if he did, I don’t know why he’s acting so cold and if he didn’t, I don’t know why he’s here.
Coco’s closed the door after him and I see a small trolley behind him. My heart warms up at the thought that he came to stay. When I get to him, the habit takes the best of me and my lips search for his but he discreetly pulls his face away and instead gives me a hug. I don’t know if he did it out of respect for my dad or because he didn’t really want to kiss me. Something tells me it’s the second.
His hug is short and superficial and when he pulls away I feel like crying. His green eyes avoid staring into my own and I wonder if he came all the way here just to torture me with his coldness and distance. As I turn around, I see Rio standing a few feet behind me.
“This is my brother, Rio. Rio, this is Harry.”
“Hi, mate.” Rio shakes his hand and Harry gives him a lips closed smile.
When my brother pulls apart, Coco slips her thin, woollen covered body and gives Harry a hug. He gives her a dimply smile and I feel jealousy burning on my belly. What is he doing? That smile was for me!
“I’ll put another plate on the table.” Dad smiles.
My siblings follow him inside the dining room and Harry and I both hear the drawers opening and closing and plates and glasses being placed on the table.
“How did you know where my dad lives?” I whisper to him.
“I asked Olivia.”
With that he walks inside the dining room and I hear him asking Coco how he can help. Wait, so Olivia knew he was coming and she didn’t tell me anything? I literally just talked to her!
At least during dinner I get to sit next to him even though I doubt it was his choosing but rather where he was supposed to sit. I feel clumsy with my cutlery as I try to cut the steak. My Dad’s been asking Harry and me questions all dinner and Harry’s answered those about himself but has let me answer the ones about our relationship so he doesn’t have to tell everyone we’re nothing now, I guess.
My dad brings homemade yoghurt to the table and even after the sweetening effect of my dad’s dessert, Harry’s still distant and cold but he only punishes me. He’s all smiles and cavalry to my family and even Rio seems to like him.
“And Harry” Rio asks “do you know my sister Coco’s boyfriend?”
Coco rolls her eyes and blushes and Harry chuckles.
“Yes, I do.” He nods. “His brother works with me. They’re nice guys, good people.”
“Cool.” Rio nods. “Podrías traerlo tú también a casa, Coco.” (You could bring him home too, Coco.)
“Sí, claro. Harry es mayor que tú. No es lo mismo. El está a salvo porque no podrías con él, pero Guido tiene 21, como Blue. Te lo comerías con papas.” (Yeah, right. Harry is older than you. It’s not the same. He’s safe because you couldn’t take him but Guido is 21, likewise Blue. He’d have nothing to do.)
I don’t think Harry’s understand most of it, but I’m sure he got the part of Harry’s older than you and Guido’s 21 and he’s smart enough to figure out the rest.
Harry’s phone screen illuminates as he gets a text and my heart gets warm when I realize he at least hasn’t change his lock screen photo. I can’t help the grin.
“You didn’t send me that picture of the wedding.” I half whisper to him.
“Did you see them?”
“So there’s more than the one…”
He lets out a little giggle that warms my insides and makes me feel like a teenager.
“You meant my lock screen, right?”
I nod.
“Who took it?”
“The photographer. I think he had a thing for you.” He smirks. “He took lots.”
I look down at my empty yoghurt bowl and smirk. I think that was progress. Baby steps, but it’s better than the cold stare and the minimum hug he gave me when he got here.
After dinner, Dad moves the party to the living room and we all take seats on the couches and the armchairs by the fireplace. Harry doesn’t pay attention to me but my family doesn’t find it weird, mostly because they haven’t really seen us together before, but also because Dad and Rio seem so invested into learning about him. They find him as interesting as I do and I think Harry is at ease too, despite all the questioning. I can tell by his body language that he’s grateful for the way my family welcome him. His eyes avoid mine, but I can tell there’s gratitude on them too and I wonder if he’d ever look at me like he used to.
Dad gets up from his armchair and walks towards the record player and Rio and him start a conversation about which album to play. I take it as my chance to have Harry to myself so I jump from my spot on the coach and sit down next to him. His eyes warn me not to sit too close and most importantly not to touch him, so I keep my hands to myself despite my yearning.
“Are you okay?” I whisper.
“Yes, I am. How are you?”
His interest both surprises and softens me and my heart flutters with hope.
“I’m happy you came.” I confess.
“I’m happy you invited me.”
His words are conciliatory but his tone is still dry and I can’t read his expression. His body is tensed though.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”
“I never said I wasn’t.”
I snort. He’s impossible. We both fall into silence after that and I wait for him to explain himself but he never does so I speak again.
“Are you going to talk to me?”
“I am talking to you now.”
“Harry, please.” My bottom lips come out of its own accord. “Can you stop torturing me?”
His jaw clenches and he looks ahead, away from me. I swallow my willing to yell at him and look down at my feet. I feel belittled and abandoned and I hate that he’s so close and so far away.
“I… Did you read my note?”
Only then he tilts his neck so he’s facing me. His green eyes look at me and for the first time since he arrived, I can see the battle inside him. I can see the part of him who wants to forgive me, maybe there’s even a part that already has; but he’s still holding back. I can work with that, I can respect that.
“I am sorry. I already wrote that to you but I can say it out loud in front of my family if you want. I’ll do anything, please. Just tell me what you want me to do and I’ll do it.”
“I don’t want you to do that or to keep apologizing, even.”
“Then what do you want?”
I watch him blink. I can tell he’s flabbergasted. He probably wasn’t expecting this behaviour from me and quite frankly neither was I but after talking to Amalia and after getting the peace I needed, I need him to know I would really do anything to take back all the pain I’ve caused him.
“I want you to be fully honest with me and to be yourself for real.”
“Pardon?”
“No more lies, no more hiding things.” He whispers. “You tell me the truth and you tell me what worries you and you tell me when you’re scared and you tell me why. I’ll do the same. I think it’s a fair deal.”
I swallow. I can do that. I meant it when I said I’d do anything. If that’s what he wants, then that’s what he’ll get. I just hope he won’t run away when he hears it all.
“When are you planning on saying it to my face?”
I almost laugh. Is he serious? He came all the way here just to hear me say that? I didn’t think he would want to hear me say it with such fervour. Isn’t it obvious? Is it not enough to show it? Is it not best to show it? I would rather have someone never telling me they love me but showing me every day that the other way around.
But okay, I can do that too. If he wants me to say it that bad, then I’ll say it… But in my own way. From the corner of my eye, I can see my dad’s still busy with the records and Rio’s back on his book and Coco’s on the phone. No one’s paying attention to us. So I get closer to him and I act brave despite the fear of his rejection. He frowns but he gets visibly nervous and he doesn’t flinch and he doesn’t pull away so I keep getting closer, like a kitten, and his eyes drop to my mouth. My lips look for his and Harry relaxes his face and for a moment it seems his guard is down and his lips part. His pupils are dilated and his eyes are set on my lips.
“Blue! I got an A on my essay!” Coco celebrates.
Fuck you, Coco! I mean- good for you but fuck your timing! Harry pulls away from me and I straighten my back despite the way my chest deflates. I give my sister a smile.
“Enhorabuena, hermana.” (Congratulations, sister.)
Dad and Rio congratulate her and ask her on her essay, as if they would understand anything of her engineering, and I try to gain back my reconciliation with Harry but he pulls back this time.
“Wait, Blue.” He whispers. “I’ve promised myself I wouldn’t touch you until you figure your shit out.”
Great. That could take years, genius.
It shouldn’t make me so frustrated. I remind myself of a dog in heat or one of those men that get mad when women reject them at bars. I frown and straighten my back so I sit farther away from him, but after a second I can’t take it anymore.
I stand up and without saying a word I make my way upstairs. Harry’s been all talkative to my family and ignoring me all night, they can show him to his room now or give him conversation. I don’t care anymore.
When I climb the stairs, I open the door to the balcony and make my way outside. It’s freezing out here before the mountains, so I turn on the heater and wrap one of the blankets on the basket between the couches around my body. Looking to the side, I can see my part of the balcony, the one that belongs to my room, and I remember last time I was here, when I sat there with Jason and we talked and talked about Harry and about Dylan and about the same fucking story once and again.
It was all for nothing. After all, it was all for nothing. I tortured myself with the thought that I was leaving Dylan behind, I looked at myself in the mirror and felt guilty and couldn’t recognize myself and all for what? All to be now sitting down all alone because the man who turned everything into a fucking mess doesn’t even want to touch me.
I hear the balcony door opening and my sister’s soft voice almost whispering she’s here and the next thing I hear are footsteps coming my way. The door closes and Harry stands beside me.
“It’s bloody freezing in here.”
I nod but don’t dare to look at him.
“Baby”
His tone sounds tired but the nickname makes my heart flutter. My eyes search his, desperately, and I think he’s done with giving me the hard look and the cold façade. I don’t like that Harry, that’s not him. Harry is kind and understanding and a good listener. He’s not harsh and hard and cold. That’s me.
“I think I’m acting like such a spoiled brat.” I confess. “You’re just giving me a taste of my own medicine and I don’t fucking like it. I didn’t really need you to show me how insufferable I am though. I already knew that.”
He sighs.
“Can we go somewhere alone and not freezing?” He asks. “We need to talk.”
I look into his eyes. He’s standing tall right next to the heater and I’m sitting down with my knees to my chest and the blanket around me. My heart is pounding on the back of my throat and I can feel my pulse on my brain.
“I love you.”
The words come out clean and clear, despite my nervousness, and my eyes don’t leave his until the weight of them fall upon us. That’s the first time I have ever said that to a man different than Dylan, that’s the first time I’ve meant those words in a romantic way after him. I can’t yet read him. He’s just looking at me and I don’t know whether on the inside he’s grinning or whether he’s about to cry.
“Isn’t that what you wanted to hear?” I am whispering now and I guess all my strength and my bravery have gone with those three words that got no answer.
“Is that why you said it?” He raises his eyebrows.
“No” I look down at my knees and think I’m about to cry “I said it because it’s true. I already wrote it down for you.”
He offers me his hand. I don’t understand his silence or why he is barely moving but I take his hand and he gives me a timid smile.
“Will you show us to your room?”
I leave the blanket a mess on the basket and walk with him towards my room. My dad played Miles Davis downstairs but I can still hear the fire and the keyboard of somebody’s laptop.
Once in my room, I take a deep breath and try not to think of what happened here before I met Harry. I try not to see Dylan on my bed, I try not to listen to his voice making fun of me for my decorations. Harry has a look around but he stands right there and he doesn’t move until I tell him he can.
“After your boyfriend passed away” he starts.
I feel my shoulders tensing and my breathing catching on my throat. No, no, no, no. I can feel his green eyes on me, studying me carefully, but I can’t look back at him.
“Did you go to therapy?”
I swallow. I don’t know why it is so hard to talk about this yet I manage to nod.
“How long for?”
“Two years.”
I see him nodding his head before he sighs. I guess he’s figuring out I’m actually really broken. I suppose if I hadn’t been to therapy, then he could hold onto that and he could say well she’s crazy now but she’ll get better but I bet after knowing I am actually the product of two years of therapy, he might give up.
“You said I wasn’t your second boyfriend. How long did you stay with him for?” I don’t answer. “How long ago was this?” He gives me some time to answer but I am still silent. “Why did you two break up?”
I am embarrassed to tell him and I don’t know why that’s even important. Javier is not something that bothers me. He’s in the past and I don’t think he has left any trauma in me and even if he did, Harry doesn’t have to worry about that. He is nothing like him and not even for a second have I doubted that.
“You’re not gonna speak?”
I want to fix things with him and I want to give him what he wants from me but I am embarrassed.
“Say something.”
“I don’t want to sleep here.”
The second I step out of the room, everything seems easier. I hear him taking a deep breath and sighing deeply before he follows me and when we enter the guest room in a second he’s behind me. His proximity covers my skin with goosebumps because I can feel his breathing against my ear shell and I can smell his scent and I feel like my heart is going to jump out of my mouth.
“When you found out about my shit you shut me out and I chased you day and night so you would let me explain. You were mad and, despite the way you treated me, I didn’t stop until I got you to listen to me because you’re important to me and I care. Now, you’re the one who’s hid something from me and instead of getting mad, I’m here, trying to get you to talk to me and you can’t even look me in the eyes.”
His proximity disappears as fast as it arrived and all he lets me se is his back as he sits down on the edge of the bed. I swallow and don’t know what to do. I look at him before my eyes set on our reflection on the glass of the window. He is looking down so he can’t see it but I can see us two and all of a sudden it’s like I know what to do.
Harry doesn’t deserve my silence. I owe him. I owe him a lot, even if he doesn’t know that, because in the last five months, I have laughed a lot more often and a lot harder and I have respected myself and I have actually wanted things. He gave that back to me and he deserves to see me, he deserves to know me and if after that he wants to leave, then I will take that but he will know who I really am.
I take a sit on the bed and cross my legs so my ankles hid underneath my thighs. I have never done this before outside of therapy and I don’t even know where to start. I take a deep breath.
“I met Dylan in this house when I was fifteen years old. Until then I had just been a posh spoiled girl like you thought I was when we met and, to be fair, I think if it hadn’t been for him, you would have been right on every stupid assumption you made about me that day in your kitchen.” I swallow.
“We started dating a year later but really I think I fell for him the very same night we met. I’ve had a… happy life. I mean before the accident. My childhood was good, my family never struggled and I was loved and wanted. I think I’ve always had everything I’ve wanted and still before I met Dylan I always felt like I was never in the right place. It was an uneasy feeling but I just never felt like I belonged anywhere. And then… He gave me that.
He didn’t think of me as a spoiled rich girl, he saw me and to him I was just… Indie. And he made me feel like the most interesting person in the world. I told him once when I was little my friends’ mothers wouldn’t let me play with Rio and the rest of the boys so I never learnt to climb a tree and he took me to his grandparents’ house and had me climbing to this huge tree on their backyard before he got the ladder down from his tree house.” I giggle nervously and hear Harry snorting a chuckle too.
He has turned around and is now staring at me and he’s silent but his body language has completely changed. I have his undivided attention.
“He was my first everything. My first love, my first boyfriend, my first best friend, my first time… And also my first fight, my first heartbreak and my first reconciliation and I guess… There was a part of me who wanted him to be the last too.”
I bit my bottom lip so it stops trembling and Harry patiently waits in silence until I get my voice back.
“When I left for Uni, he stayed in Capitol. His dad had cancer and his mum had to work so he decided to postpone Uni for a year or two until things got better. I admired him for that but then…” My eyes look away but now that I’ve started it’s like I can’t stop. “He changed. He became short-tempered and harsh and we started fighting a lot. I think he felt as if his life was stuck among cancer and poorly paid jobs while mine was moving forward and getting better and I was having fun when he was… I think he felt as if I have abandoned him and in a way, I…”
My face contorts and my throat closes on me to the point where my voice and my breath get stuck inside. I feel pain and guilt and embarrassment choking me and my eyes shut as hot, salty tears roll down my cheeks.
“I did.” I confess. “I was tired of being sad. Whenever I saw him, we ended up fighting and I saw my friends and everyone around me living their best lives and going to parties and I was just the girl with the sad boyfriend and I…” I shake my head. “I wasn’t there for him when he needed me.”
I take a deep breath.
“One day he came to see me and we had a fight and he left for hours. When he came back…” I lick my lips dry after all the talking. “He was high. That was the first time I saw him like that but then it all started to make sense: his mood-swings, his depression, his irritability… I tried helping him.” I wipe my tears and sob before I clear my throat. “I talked to his mum, to my parents, to his friends, to him… I asked for all the help I could get but… He wanted me to go with him to one of his new friends’ party. I didn’t like those people and I was trying to get him away from them because they all smoked and he wasn’t acting himself when he was around them…”
I swallow again but the lump in my throat is getting bigger and bigger and harder to swallow.
“So he went alone. I was in Grad. It was me who called him. I felt bad that I hadn’t gone with him to the party, even if they were the wrong crowd, I didn’t know what I was supposed to do to be there for him… And… He was driving.”
I dare to look at Harry then. His green eyes meet mine but I can’t take it. It’s hard enough to tell the story, doing it under such intense stare would be impossible.
“I lost it.” Even if I had wanted to look into his eyes, everything gets blurry before me now as a new army of tears rolls down my cheeks again. “I begged him to stop the car, I yelled at him, I… I even said if he didn’t then I’d break up with him.” I sob. “And he was mad and he yelled back and then… I heard the crash.”
I stop and my eyes set on the wall. Harry’s hand gently rests on my knee and it surprises me that my body doesn’t react to it. My mind wasn’t expecting that and yet my body seems to be so used to his touch, it didn’t flinch or even jump.
“The doctors said he died on the spot so the last thing he heard before dying was a threat.”
I look at him expecting to find the judgement on his eyes. Maybe he’s disgusted by me. Maybe he thinks I’m a terrible person and he doesn’t want to see me again. But all I find is pain and sorrow and love. I frown.
“I was depressed for six full months after that and when I started talking again, I started going to therapy. I wish I were dead too.” I admit.
I can see the pain flashing through his green eyes but he lets me talk. He doesn’t shush me or tells me don’t say that and I love him for that. He lets me say and he lets me feel and I know he didn’t want me dead but he gives me this moment, he gives me this silence, these words. He lets me owe them.
“And somehow I was; some part of me was. I thought I was never going to feel even remotely close to how I felt when he was with me. For years I felt like I didn’t want anything. I just did things, but I had no desires. I wasn’t hoping for anything or even trying anything… I was just waiting… And it might sound ungrateful or selfish but I honestly was just waiting for the day I die. I felt like some part of me was already dead.
When I met Javier I wasn’t much better than that. It had been almost two years since Dylan’s accident and I guess I just wanted to feel something. We met at a club and fucked the same night and after that he was sweet at the beginning, I thought he was protective but really he was just jealous, possessive and controlling. He was… Bad. He was an abuser and he came across someone dead inside so he could do anything because I didn’t care and he did. He made me feel disgusting and fat and lazy and powerless but I guess in a way it was what I wanted. I have tortured myself for what happened to Dylan for years now. I feel guilty for not having been there for him enough… I guess part of me thought I deserved Javier to some extend… Until one day he tied me up to the headboard of the bed and left me there for three hours.”
Harry’s eyes horrified at that. His nostrils flare and his jaw clenches but he still doesn’t say anything. I swallow and go on.
“I was done with men when I met you but you…” My voice croaks but I want to tell him. I think this is the most important part. “You said I could have blue cheese” I chuckle nervously and so does he “and I… I wanted to see you.” I don’t know why I’m crying now but I feel salty tears on my mouth and my voice croaks all the time. “I hoped you would be in your coffee break when I went to the cafeteria. I mean at the beginning it was just… Orgasms.” He laughs. “But even then, I felt… Alive. I felt my heart beating and the air on my lungs and I felt my blood rushing through my veins and then it was all the time. You look at me and my pulse accelerates and when you’re close my breath gets stuck on my throat and I don’t know what to say and my skin gets covered in goosebumps and my stomach does somersaults…”
I have barely taken a breath while telling him all that but now he’s blushing and his lips can’t help the small smile and his dimple is out and for a moment I thought I would never make him smile like this ever again.
“So… I got scared.” I shrug. “I got scared that I was forgetting about Dylan. I didn’t want to leave him behind. You know, I’ve… I’ve never been able to go to his grave. I don’t think I can see his gravestone.” My voice breaks and Harry’s hand moves from my knee to my shoulder. “I don’t… I can’t remember his voice.” I sob. “I could hear him on tape but I think it would make me depressed again.” I let the lump in my throat win for a second before I fight it again. “I just want to be able to remember him without feeling my heart break into a million pieces. I mean how long does grieving take? It’s been three years and I can’t talk about him.”
“Come here.”
I let Harry pull me to him and in crying to him about Dylan I find a comfort I never thought possible. His hand carefully and lovingly rub my back and his lips press soft kisses against my hairline. I don’t know how long for he lets me cry but he only pulls away when I’m sniffing and my breathing has gone back to normal.
His green eyes investigate mine for long seconds before he takes a deep breath and speaks.
“I don’t know how to say what I want to tell you without sounding harsh.”
I purse my lips. I don’t know either but I get ready to hear it. I know this is too much. He already said I had to figure my shit out before I was in a relationship and he didn’t even know all this shit so now he’s gonna leave for good. I understand. I wouldn’t wanna be with me either.
“When you were depressed, I suppose Coco was there for you, right?”
I nod but frown. I do not know where he’s going with this.
“Did that make you feel better?”
“Of course.”
“Did that heal you?”
I frown. I guess… Not. My doctor healed me, I healed me. Coco just loved me.
“You can’t love someone out of depression, Blue.” He states. “What happened to Dylan was a terrible accident and it’s normal that with accidents we always feel as if they could have been somehow prevented but that doesn’t help anyone.” He sighs. “Death is terrible but it’s also a part of life. We all have to die. Dylan was taken too soon and I can’t imagine what that felt like, baby… Really, I am amazed that you went through that and that you… survived that and came out this… Incredible.” His eyebrows raise on his forehead as his head shakes, as if he really was amazed. “And I am sorry for what I said to you. I wish I had known this sooner but I also wish I could take back the moment where I blamed you for your… Things. This is fucking hard and I wish I could tell you how long grieving takes but I don’t know, love. Yet you don’t have to do this alone.”
My heart restarts and my eyes search for the trap.
“You’re not going to leave?”
“Where?”
“I…” I shrug. “I thought this was going to scare you away.” I frown. “That you’d realize I have deep severe issues and you would just walk away.”
Harry frowns and it’s the first time a gesture of contradiction wakes butterflies up in my belly.
“Sometimes I don’t know who you take me for--.” He shakes his head. “I love you, Blue. And I want to see you happy. I love seeing you smile and laugh and I feel… Important when I make you laugh. You’re intelligent and kind and funny and mesmerising and beyond gorgeous and… So young, love. Why would I ever want to walk away from that?”
My eyes move frantically between his and I choose not to ask him whether he really thinks that. I decide I’ll try to believe him. He shakes his head. I think he can read my mind.
“I wish you could see yourself through my eyes.” He smirks. “Could you please tell me what would be of your friends without you? Do you think Mario and Olivia would be together if it wasn’t because of you? Do you think Marie would have dared to go out with Adam? And what would be of Jason? You helped him get out of an abusive relationship. Do you know how hard that is?”
I guess he’s right. I do contribute on The Golden Girls.
“And what about me?” He chuckles. “You make me not hate myself.”
His green eyes bore into mine after he said that and I know the nodding of his head is just a way to try and swallow the lump on his throat. I can see the tears he’s holding back now.
“Before I met you, I was just waiting too and now I want to live and I want to love you and you’re gonna let me.” He persuades me so I giggle.
“Promise me you’re gonna let me.” He whispers.
“I promise.” I smile.
He nods, satisfied with my answer, and we both stare at each other smiling despite all the emotions we just shared.
“I don’t know how long it’s gonna take for you to be able to remember Dylan without feeling your heart breaking... But what I do want you to know is that I don’t think you need to stop loving him to love me or anyone else.” He shrugs. “I mean... When I think about widows remarrying, I never think of it as a bad thing, I don’t think it means forgetting... It just means... Your heart is big enough to love twice.” He smirks.
I let the tears roll down my cheeks and meet my lips.
“I don’t know why I thought you’d... Like... Not understand.” I shake my head. “I thought you might even get jealous.”
He frowns, like I was speaking some foreign language and it’s his little understanding that makes me smirk despite my tears.
“Getting jealous of that is like... I’m afraid it’s literally sick.”
I even chuckle.
“You’re strong and wonderful” he says “and I have no doubt you’ll get there. I hope it’s me the one you tell about Dylan without having your heart breaking too.” He smiles.
My lips are curled into a timid smile but my head is shaking because there’s a part of me that’s beyond happy, there’s another part of me that’s heartbroken, there’s another part that can’t believe someone this kind can exist; and in the midst of all these feelings, my mind doesn’t have control over my body anymore.
“I love you.”
I let my lips hug every syllable and my heart own every word. Harry’s lips curl until he’s grinning and I think I’ll tell him I love him every morning if he’s going to look at me like that.
I am not scared anymore.
I feel liberated and I love this man in a way that makes my heart skip every second beat. For the first time in three years, I feel like there’s not a single part of me that’s not full of life and love and plans and hope and calm.
“I love you too. And now get ready because I’m going to kiss you.”
The air leaves my lungs through a desperate smile as his hands rest on the mattress next to my thighs and he gets closer to me.
“I’m ready.”

Nurse Diaz (Rosa Diaz x Reader)
Tumblr media
When the reader comes to work sick, Captain Holt sends her home, telling Rosa to tag along so she can take care of the sick woman.
The second you step out of the elevator you let out a violent sneeze into the Kleenex you’d been carrying.
“Oh no...” You hear someone mumble from in the 99 as you walk in, ignoring everyone and falling into the chair at your desk before slamming your forehead down on its surface.
“Ummm, Y/N?” You hear Amy say and you grab your chest, hacking and coughing violently, your chest burning.
“Maybe you should head home buddy...?” Jake says and you shake your head.
“I’m fine, I’m not sick.” You mumble through a hoarse voice and Gina scoffs from across the room.
“Yeah right.” You hear her mumble and watch as she sprays an unhealthy amount of air freshener around the room.
You growl and move to your feet, your head spinning as you sniff your stuffed nose. You put your hand on your head and give it a shake, hoping to stop the dizziness.
“You don’t look so hot.” You hear Rosa say and you turn on your heels, rushing towards the bathroom.
“I’m fine.” You rasp.
The second you’re inside you rush to the sink and throw a handful of cold water in your face before you look at yourself in the mirror, water running down your flushed cheeks.
Your bloodshot eyes dart around your water droplet covered face and you sigh.
You throw a few more handfuls of water in your face before clearing it with a paper towel and heading back into the prescient.
You make your way to your desk and fall into your chair, quickly realizing that nearly every member of the 99 is looking your way.
“What?” You croak, blood shot eyes narrowed as they dart around the room and Rosa scoffs.
“You look like shit.” She looks at you the corner of her mouth barely ticked upwards.
“I thought I looked good today.” You huff and Rosa shakes her head with a smirk.
You grab a tissue from a nearby box and sneeze into it violently.
“Detective Y/L/N?” You hear someone sternly say and you tense up.
“Captain?” You move to your feet your head spinning.
You clear your throat and stand tall, Captain Holt eyeing you curiously.
“Are you alright Detective?” He asks and you nod, clearing your throat to hold back a cough.
“Just fine sir.” You smile and Gina scoffs from across the room
“She’s lying.”
You snarl in her direction and she ducks behind Sergeant Terry.
“Detective...?” He asks and you sigh deeply.
“I’m not sick, I’m fine.” You say.
Captain Holt doesn’t look convinced, giving you a pointed look.
“I can’t get sick.” You huff.
Captain Holt arches a brow, his eyes darting to Rosa who is sitting at her desk that is pressed up against yours.
“Sounds familiar.” He gives her a look and Rosa rolls her eyes.
“Come on Y/N, you have to go home and get better.” Jake urges and Amy and Boyle nod.
Scully and Hitchcock also nod from their seats.
“Yeah Y/N, you’re contaminating the prescient.” Scully comments and you bare your teeth at him, the man picking up and hiding behind the bag of potato chips on his desk.
You turn your head and hack into the sleeve of your shirt.
“Detective, you’re going home.” Captain Holt says sternly and you open your mouth to insist again you aren’t sick, but he simply holds his hand up.
You sigh in defeat and turn back towards your desk and see Rosa gazing your way, her brown orbs holding something that looks akin to concern.
You drop down in your seat with a huff and watch as Captain Holt marches to his office.
You lean down, covering your face with your hands and take a deep breath.
Suddenly, a hand slips on your forehead and you jump. You sit up, realizing that Rosa is standing beside you, her hand gently resting on your forehead.
“You’re burning up.” She grimaces and you groan before you let out a violent series of sneezes.
“Y/L/N, out, and take Diaz with you.” Captain Holt calls out and Rosa furrows her brows and turns towards the Captain.
“Why?” She asks and Captain Holt turns to head into his office, calling over his shoulder as he pulls the door shut behind him.
“She needs you Diaz.”
Rosa turns back to you, seeing the visible pout on your lips as you stare across the prescient at the door where Captain Holt just disappeared behind.
“Did he say something?” You ask as you slip a finger in your ear and wiggle it around.
Rosa chuckles and slowly shakes her head.
“Come on. Let’s get you home.” Rosa says and you mumble under your breath.
“I can drive myself.”
She shakes her head as she leads you to the elevator.
“Captain Holt wants me to take care of you.” She sighs and you throw your head back and laugh, turning to her with a grin.
“Nurse Diaz?” You ask and she glares in your direction.
“Shut it.”
                                                           ***
You finish the soup up Rosa made for you and you groan, wrapping your comforter around you and falling onto the couch.
“No.” Rosa grabs your blanket and pulls it off of your shivering form.
“Hey...” You whine and Rosa places a bottle of water on the coffee table in front of you.
“Covering up can increase your body’s temperature.” Rosa chides as she takes a seat on the couch beside you.
“Here.” Rosa places a cup of medication on the table and you turn to her with a pout.
“Take it.” She commands and you grumble, but grab the tiny cup of medication and throw it back, grimacing as you take a healthy chug of water.
You lean back into the couch with a heavy sigh and glance at Rosa out of the corner of your eye.
“You don’t have to stay... It’s okay.” You shrug bringing your legs up and hugging your knees to your chest.
Rosa turns towards you, watching as you shiver and you sniff your nose loudly, your watery Y/E/C orbs on her.
She gives you a rare smile, one which you return and she shrugs.
“I don’t have anywhere to be.”
                                                            ***
A few hours later you’re, fast asleep on the couch, you head in Rosa’s lap as the woman with the raven hair runs her fingers through your hair.
She smiles down at you as she brushes your hair out of your face and you mumble softly in your sleep.
Her smile spreads into a grin as you grab her hand and pull it to your chest, the feeling of your heart beating softly beneath her fingertips.
Rosa drags gentle circles on your clothed chest and you hum softly in your sleep.
That hum turns into a rumbling in your throat, that turns into a hacking cough that has you sitting up, wrapping your arms around your midsection, as your body jerks violently with each cough.
Rosa grabs your water and you take a healthy swig before you bury your face in your hands.
“Ugh, kill me.” You mumble as Rosa rubs your back.
“Nope.” She says, popping the ‘p’ and you growl.
You sigh leaning back into her touch, the feeling of her hand on your back comforting.
Rosa gives you a small smile before she kicks off her boots and pulls her legs up onto the couch, slipping them around you, making it where you’re sitting between them.
You flush bright red when Rosa wraps her arms around you from behind and pulls you back against her chest.
“Sleep.” She whispers in your ear, her hot breath dancing across your flesh and you smile as you lean back into her chest.
You turn, your ear settling over her beating heart and you glance up at her through your eye lashes, blushing when you see she’s already grinning down at you.
You place your hand on the other side of her chest and close your eyes, smiling. That smile splits into a grin when you feel Rosa’s arms tighten around you.
“You’re so comfy…” You mumble sleepily and Rosa smiles.
“Sleep Y/N.” She whispers, one of her hands slowly running up and down your back.
You let out a sleepy hum as you nuzzle into her chest and Rosa bites her bottom lip.
She leans down and kisses the top of your head earning a dopey smile in return.
“Do I have to be sick for us to do this?” You mumble and Rosa laughs, her chest rumbling.
“We’ll see.” She smiles and you hum.
Moments later, you go silent, your breathing evening out.
“No you don’t have to be sick to get me to hold you like this…”
She buries her nose in your hair and closes her eyes, ready to join you in sleep. She whispers sleepily into your hair.
“I’ve wanted to hold you like this...For a while…”
Your tired voice makes Rosa’s laugh softly into your hair.
“That’s good to know.”
You snuggle back into her chest, a grin stretching across your face.
“You make a great nurse, Nurse Diaz.”
“Shut up.”

CSI Rogers and Barnes Master List
Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
“And the wanderer returns!” Jake Peralta greeted Katie warmly as he stepped out of the elevator to greet her at the front desk of the 99 Precinct Building. “Good to see you Jake!” She beamed, giving him a hug before she stepped back “This is Sergeant James Barnes, or Bucky.” “Pleased to meet you.” Bucky said, grasping his hand. “So how’s DC treating you?” Jake asked as they stepped into the elevator. “Not bad.” Katie shrugged “The work is good but, well it’s not home ya know?” Bucky shot her a side glance, that was the first time he had heard her admit that she missed Brooklyn, and he had a feeling that her reconciliation with Steve had something to do with it. “Well you know what they say?” Peralta smiled “You can take the girl outta Brooklyn” “And then bring her back” Bucky quipped, earning him a dig in his ribs. The elevator door opened and they stepped out into the open plan office and Bucky winced at the cacophony of noise that hit his ears. Katie grinned and hugged a smaller, short haired man before she moved on to an Auburn haired woman, and then smiled and fist bumped a taller, darker haired lady. “Hey Diaz.”
“Stark.” The woman’s face flickered into a grin as she pulled Katie into a hug “good to see you”
“Wait a minute. Are we hugging?” Katie pulled back “Have we ever done this before?”
“No,” Diaz replied “And if you tell anyone, I’ll slit your throat.”
Katie laughed. “Does Terry get a hug?” Bucky looked up to see an absolute unit of a man strolling towards them. The man was dressed in a normal shirt, with a tie and suspenders but Bucky couldn’t help but stare because, well, he was fucking huge. He was even bigger than Steve and that was saying something. “Oh Terry gets a hug!” Katie laughed, stepping forward again. “Good, coz Terry missed Katie…” “Does he always refer to himself in the 3rd person? Bucky turned to the shorter man. “Oh yes.” He nodded “I’m Boyle by the way” “Bucky.” He said, shaking his hand.
“So…” Jake turned to them “All the boxes and case notes are ready in the archive rooms down stairs. I would have brought them to you but my cars in the shop so I rode in on Rosa’s motorcycle. I guess you could say I’m a gear head now.” he nodded, clearly pleased with himself. “He held on to me so tight it was like a two-mile Heimlich.” Diaz shot back, where she was lounging in her chair, phone sandwiched between her ear and her shoulder “No I won’t hold…”
“Those things have no walls on them!” Jake hissed as he walked to his desk “Let me just grab my breakfast and we’ll head down…” “Are those gummy bears wrapped in a fruit roll-up?” Bucky looked at him in horror as he picked up the film wrapped item.
“Breakfast burrito, but yeah” Peralta shrugged as they headed to the elevator.
“I pity your dentist.” Bucky shook his head.
“Joke’s on you. I don’t have a dentist.” Jake shot back as they all headed towards the elevator.
“Not so fast…” a deep voice said, and Bucky spun round to see the 99’s commanding officer, Captain Holt striding across the floor. “I believe Sergeant Stark has one more person she needs to say hi to.”
Katie narrowed her eyes playfully “Why? Is Cheddar here?”
“Who’s Cheddar?” Bucky asked.
“Holt’s corgi.” Peralta supplied
Holt’s face twitched, into what Bucky supposed you could call a smile, maybe, as the man stuck his arm out and formally shook Katie’s hand.
“Good to see you again. Congratulations on the promotion.” Holt said “I knew you’d get your break eventually.” “Thank you sir.” she smiled.
He nodded at her and then turned to look out over the office. “Ok 99, I just had an email. Our monthly crime statistics are due. I want paperwork on all your closed cases by tomorrow. Scully, you can just write ‘I didn’t close any’ on a piece of paper.”
Bucky looked around to see two, rather large (and by large he meant fat) men sat at desks, both eating some form of wrap. One of them, the one with the strange hair cut that made him look like he had a lego doll head looked up.
“What? I’m confused…” he said slowly.
“Huh.” Holt raised an eyebrow “From your expression, I would have guessed constipated. Or chilly.”
Bucky heard Katie snigger besides him as a nasaly voice from the Auburn haired woman cut across the office.
“Hey, Craptain, you ready to get curb stomped?” “What?” Jeffords’ eyes shot up.
“At chess.” Gina looked at him.
“We have a weekly match. I’m teaching Gina to play. And she, in turn, is teaching me to trash talk.” Holt said, waving his hand in explanation before he turned to Gina “The hospital called. Your test results came back positive. You’re a stage five dumbass.”
Katie looked at Peralta before the pair of them burst out laughing as Gina stood there, nodding, like a proud sensei.
“Oh! You have come so far.”
Bucky simply stood there, mouth hanging open. What the fuck had Stark dragged him into. He dug her in the ribs with his elbow and as she turned to look at him, he shook his head “This…this is…” “The Nine-Nine.” Katie said, fondly “And you spent 5 years here?” Bucky looked at her in disbelief.
“Actually it was just over 6.” Katie said “I moved to the 101 a year after dad died when the opportunity came up to train as a Profiler. I do miss them all though, and their little quirks…which reminds me…Hey” She turned to Jeffords who was now sat at his desk. “Still writing Fan Fiction Terry?” “Fan Fiction…” Bucky dead panned.
“Well, shows and films leave Terry wanting more.” Sergeant Jeffords shrugged “I’m just filling in the gaps.”
Just when he didn’t think shit could get any weirder… Bucky blinked.
“So what grabbed your imagination this time?” Katie continued
“He’s actually writing an original piece.” Boyle smiled.
Terry grinned “Yeah, about a group of super heroes, who save New York from aliens…”
“Let me guess…” Bucky grumbled and they turned to face him “They all dress in lycra and have capes?”
“Not all of them.” Terry looked at him. “Only one has a cape and only one dresses in Lycra, the others are in leather apart from one who is a kind of beast when he gets angry and the other has a flying, metal suit and…”
“Why can’t anyone make super heroes normal people who wear normal clothes?” Bucky shook his head.
“They don’t sit on their couches in their superhero outfits.” Terry looked at him, frowning “They’re normal on their downtime…”
“What is it with you and superhero costumes?” Katie looked at him.
Bucky shrugged “It’s just all, oh I dunno, ostentatious…” “Says the man who owns a rhinestone encrusted denim jacket, yeah, I heard…Steve told me about it ages ago.”
Bucky smirked and shrugged “It’s from the 90s, it was the fashion when we were a kid.” “Hmmm.” Katie pondered, before she looked back at Terry “You’ll have to email me a copy when it’s done.” “Will do, Terry always likes feedback.” “And Katie likes to read, speaking of which…” she patted Buck’s chest with the back of her hand “We need to get digging into those files, Buck.”
He agreed and Katie turned to Peralta. “Lead the way…not that I don’t know where it is but…”
She was cut off by a loud squeal and she spun to see a dark haired uniformed woman, hair pulled back into a ponytail. Bucky just caught the name “Santiago” on her tag before Katie wrapped her in a hug.
“Oh my God!” Santiago smiled, “I knew you were back in town but…”
“I know I should have called…and I’m sorry Amy but, we got a lot to get through so I need to get to it. But, Romanoff suggested a night out. You too Diaz?”
“Drinks sound good” Diaz nodded.
“The Compound? This weekend?” Katie asked “Sure I can wrangle us the VIP treatment seeing as the owner is practically my sister in law.” ““I am sooo up for that!” Santiago grinned “There’s nothing better after a long shift than going to The Compound It’s like Cheers, where everybody knows your name”
Diaz looked at her “A place where everybody knows your name is hell. You’re describing hell.”
******
The doors of the elevator opened and Katie emerged from it followed by Bucky who was carrying a box with the files they had brought from the 99. Thankfully, out of the three boxes Peralta had provided on Rumlow’s case, they had been able to reduce the files with meaningful information to only one.
“Is Stevie’s office open, Wanda? Need to pop these files somewhere safe.” Katie said once they were close enough to the reception desk counter.
Bucky saw Wanda’s eyebrows squeeze together in a wrinkle and her mouth twist with annoyance at Katie’s use of Steve’s pet name. He could tell she was pissed. And to be honest, he was also surprised at the new situation. How Stark had gone from hating the Captain’s guts and going haywire at him calling her sweetheart, to easily referring to him as Stevie, and in public none the less, was something that he couldn’t quite grasp. But then again the dynamic between those two was unique, which was the polite way of putting it.
“Yeah, it’s open. He’s in there.” she answered trying to conceal her animosity.
“What?” Katie shrieked and Wanda shrugged. She turned to Bucky “Can you believe that?”
Bucky just shook his head and muttered “Punk” as both headed for the Captain’s office. They were about to barge in when the door suddenly opened. Steve, who was carrying a cardboard cup holder with two coffee cups, had to raise his right hand above his head to avoid scalding both detectives with the hot liquid.
“Whoooa, easy there!” his voice faltered at the end as his ribs complained at the sudden movement.
“What the fuck, Steve!” Katie shouted “You should be resting at home, you’re still healing.”
“She’s right, punk.” Bucky added as he made his way past Steve to leave the box on the desk. “What? You don’t think we can handle this without you?”
“That’s … that’s not…” he said turning and glaring at Bucky but stopped when he saw an amused expression on Bucky’s face “Enjoying yourself?” he asked and Bucky nodded and laughed.
Steve sighed and turned to Katie who was still at the door arm crossed and he smiled softly, his bruised face lighting up as he spoke.
“I’m ok, sweetheart. Just have to remember not to move like I’m a cheerleader.”
“Now, that’s an image I don’t want imprinted in my brain.” Bucky mused leaning on Steve desk as he prepared for the storm to unravel.
“What’s in the box?” Steve asked.
“Files from the 99.” Bucky said as he watched Katie who was still observing Steve with narrowed eyes.
“Well don’t leave them there, take them into the incident room.” Steve said, “It’s safe enough, we can lock it and-“
At that point Bucky saw Katie’s eyes flicker like a light bulb, the way they did when her brain was trying to spot the missing link and she interrupted him.
“Wait! How did you get here? You can’t have possibly driven yourself.” she said tilting her head, staring at him like he was the suspect of a petty theft. “Oh, you didn’t ride the bike, did you? Steven, tell me you didn’t ride that old, dusty piece of junk!” she carried on ranting.
“What bike?” Bucky inquired now curious while taking a packet of gummy bears Peralta had given him out of his jacket pocket.
“An old bike my father had. Tony doesn’t like bikes so he passed it on to Steve.” Katie explained “It’s a rattletrap…”
“It’s not a rattletrap.” Steve protested “And it’s unique, the handlebars are made from Vibranium. You should show more respect for Howard’s legacy.” he said pointing at her like she was a little brat.
“Whatever.” she said rolling her eyes. “Are you going to tell me how you got here?”
“Sam drove me. He called to tell me he had news on Ross report, he said he was in the area so I made him pick me up.”
Bucky saw Katie’s stance relax a bit with Steve’s explanation but suddenly her eyes darted to him, and he would be lying if he said he wasn’t a bit scared.
“Who did you say you had breakfast with before we went to the 99?” she asked Bucky with a sly glance.
“I didn’t say.” Bucky said, putting a bunch of gummy bears in his mouth before he diverted the conversation to Steve again.
“You shouldn’t be here, Steve. You’re convalescing”
Steve sighed, lowered his head for some seconds, a demeanour Bucky could read like the back of his hand. Steve felt tired and lost, he needed to go back to his natural element.
"Look” he said raising his head again, the hand that wasn’t holding the drinks dropped to his hip and he looked at Bucky “I’m tired of being at home doing nothing but watching TV and thinking. I can’t even go for my morning run or go to the gym to blow some steam against a punching bag. I know I should be more relaxed now than ever, but I’m not. Doing nothing is driving me crazy. Surely being in the station can’t be that physically demanding?”
Bucky felt a pang of guilt at his friend’s word. Steve was right. Bucky knew that Steve, for as long as he could remember, had always wanted to do what was right. Even if sometimes that meant a bunch of dumbass decisions. The Captain wasn’t one for sitting back and doing nothing. He even had bags under his eyes and Katie must have noticed too since she asked him
“Trouble sleeping?”
Steve turned to look at her with a huge smile on his face and a sparkle of something in his eyes, Bucky could tell from the way he was standing.
“You could say that.” he replied.
Katie returned the smile and they both simply stood looking at one another for what seemed like way more time than should be acceptable. Bucky suddenly felt like he was a fly on the wall, so trying not to step on the moment, he grabbed the box of files and made to leave the office.
“I will be in my desk if you…” he said when he walked past Katie but she wasn’t noticing him, she was still locked in eye contact with Steve.
“Whatever.” he mumbled and headed for his desk “I feel like I’m invisible. I’m turning into Steve when he was a skinny punk.”
“Now, you’re talking to yourself Barnes.” Natasha said walking from the kitchen followed by Sam, Clint and Wanda.
“Who are you, Regina George and her clique?” Bucky bit back while he dropped the box onto his desk and took off his jacket.
Steve chose that point to walk out into the office
“Sam, Barnes and Stark are back.” the Captain spoke striding towards Bucky’s desk, signalling the man over from where he was perched on the edge of Natasha’s desk. Katie headed to her own, and dropped her purse down, slinging her jacket over her chair. “Can you fill us on the new details about Ross’ PM report?”
“Can I go fetch a coffee first?” Katie pleaded as Sam stood up. “It’ll be real quick, promise.”
“Oh, shit, here” Steve said quietly handing her one of the take out coffee cups he had brought from his office and completely forgotten about “I got you your regular on the way. Your round tomorrow.”
In all honesty Steve had been a little nervous buying that coffee. It had been something they had always done, buying each other a drink on the way in, alternating on days. But since she had returned and they hadn’t been on good terms it had clearly fallen by the wayside. Since the air had cleared yesterday he’d decided to chance it and see how it was received but he needn’t have worried. Katie positively beamed at him before she blurted out “God, I love you.”
Steve felt his neck growing warm as all eyes turned to them and he saw Katie’s own cheeks flush and she sipped from the cup trying to hide her embarrassment “Suri’s Vanilla Lattes are the best.” she said in an over the top, dramatic voice “Oh, how I have missed them!”
"You’re welcome, I think.” Steve said, now full on blushing as he rubbing the back of his neck.
Bucky tried to divert the attention from the pair of dorks before Wanda choked on her own bile and Natasha or Clint made a snarky comment.
“I’m waiting. What, you didn’t bring one for me?” he asked and from the corner of his eye he saw Natasha shaking her head at him disapprovingly. He glanced at Steve who was now flushing even more and that was when he realized he had made it worse by drawing even more attention to the fact that Steve had, in effect, displayed favouritism, whether he meant to or not.
“You want in Barnes you can buy the next round then.” Katie quipped and he glanced at her as she perched on the edge of her desk.
“Fair enough…” he shrugged, and then his attention was taken by Sam who was looking at something on his desk with curiosity.
“You like cats?” Sam asked taking Dot and examining her.
“It’s not a cat. It’s a goat and it’s called Dot.” Bucky said with annoyance. How the fuck could anyone mistake a goat for a cat?
Steve groaned and urged Sam to start with the report details so they could move on with the investigation.
“What? Dude has a cat on his desk and you don’t want to know why?” Sam asked Steve.  "Looks like a cat.“ he shrugged now looking at Bucky.
"I think it looks like a llama.” Katie quipped and Clint’s laugh could be heard all through the floor.
Steve groaned again rubbing his forehead but before he could make one of his famous pep talks, Sam interrupted him.
“All right, before Steve McQueen here’s head blows up…the hair we got on Ross’ trousers?” he offered, opening the folder he was carrying and examining the report.
“Yeah?” Steve asked.
“Funny enough, its goat.” the doctor explained.
Everyone went silent, looking at each other, before Katie let out a laugh and turned to Bucky.
“Maybe we should ask Dot if she knew Ross.”
“Fuck off Stark.” Bucky rolled his eyes, grinning.
“Oooh, maybe she did it…” Katie continued “I mean, do you know her whereabouts that night?”
“You’re hilarious.” Bucky deadpanned, shaking his head.
“Ok. Anything else?” Steve asked Sam, cutting across the pair of them.
“Nope. That’s all I’ve got so far. Got you a copy of the updated report.” he said handing the folder to Steve.
“Thanks, Sam” he said and the Doctor just nodded and patted Dot’s head with his index finger before heading away.
“Romanoff, Barton, start working on a link between Ross and …” Steve paused for a moment trying to sound as professional as possible “…a goat.“
Katie choked slightly and then coughed as Bucky looked at her, before they both started to snigger slightly. Steve rolled his eyes at the pair of them. They were like school kids.
"Right away, Cap.” Natasha nodded.
“It would be my genuine pleasure, Cap.” Clint added, nodding to his computer “Searching for goat farms as we speak. God I’d like to have a farm someday.”
“Buck, you and Katie start with those files. I’ve got a tele-conference with Fury to give him an update so I’ll join you as soon as I can.”
Bucky gave him a salute as he turned and started making his way towards his office.
“Stevie, I got your…” Wanda called out for him before he went away but she was cut off by Steve’s fiery look.
“It’s Steve, Wanda.” he said sternly.
“Yes. Sorry Steve” she said gulping “I just wanted to give you your mail.”
“Thanks.” Steve said, slightly less curtly but still with a slight edge to his voice as he took the items from her.
Bucky saw her walk as fast as she could towards the restroom and he shared a quick significant glance with Steve who just shook his head and turned towards his office. He then looked at Katie who simply stood and picked up the box from his desk as she headed towards the Incident Room. Finally he looked in Natasha’s direction who nodded at him as if confirming they were on the same page-Rogers and Stark were back on full speaking and, so it seemed, full flirting terms.
***** “So as Jake and I explained before the victim was a woman called Sara Klein.” Katie spoke as Bucky spread the papers across the large table. “She was walking home from a bar when she was dragged into an alley and raped.”
“And you think the perp was…this Rumlow guy?” Bucky asked, looking down at a mug shot of a man with dark hair and dark eyes. “Who was a Uniform in the 99?”
“Yeah.” Katie said
“So what made you suspect him?”
“When we took Klein to the Rape Centre for her forensic examination he was there, don’t ask me what for. When she came back from the examination room she heard him talking and literally stated shaking and became hysterical.” Katie paused for a moment “We got her back to the station, calmed her down and that was when she said she recognised his voice…”
At that point Steve walked into the room and they both looked at him, and he gestured for them to continue.
“Peralta and I went to speak to Captain Holt, you know, given the sensitivity of it. He told us to bring Rumlow in for questioning and that he would speak to Fury. Obviously he denied it, said she must have been mistaken bla bla bla but Peralta and I didn’t believe a word of it, I know he did it.”
She trailed off and Bucky looked at Steve who gently laid a hand on her shoulder “He knows.” he looked at her as her head snapped up and her eyes locked onto his “I told him what Rumlow did to you, I’m sorry but I was trying to explain the Sitwell situation and…” For a moment Steve feared she was going to blow up at him but she didn’t. Instead she sighed and shrugged “It’s not exactly a secret anyway…” she wiped at her eyes and Steve gently rubbed her back before she jumped off the desk and walked to the wall, looking at the various bits of notes and evidence.
“Long and short of it, Bucky, is that we had no forensics of any sort to link Rumlow to the rape, no DNA left behind, nothing that wasn’t circumstantial…and then up pops Sitwell to provide an alibi that we didn’t believe for a second. But before we had chance to discredit it, Sara turned up and said she wanted to withdraw her allegation. Said that she’d confided in someone, we never did find out who, and they’d given her all these statistics on how many rape cases actually ended in a conviction and that was it, she didn’t want to put herself through it. Nothing we said or did could convince her otherwise.”
“So Rumlow basically carried on like nothing had happened…” Bucky said, leaning back in his chair. “Well his reputation was in tatters, mud sticks…” Katie said, turning to look at him “He pretty much became a social pariah around the force. And then when he assaulted me he was kicked out, well, told to resign…”
Bucky stayed silent as Steve gently reached over to look at the paper work on the desk.
“So has anything turned up in any of this that can link Ross to Sitwell?” he asked, glancing up at them both.
“Not so far.” Bucky shook his head “But we haven’t even scratched the surface.”
“Well until we have anything concrete to go on it’s as good a train of thought as any.” Steve said. “Maybe it’s worth digging into Sitwell’s background a little more. Schools, Universities, dodgy handshake clubs, that kind of stuff, see if we can link him to Ross that way.”
“Say we do make a link…” Bucky said, leaning back in his chair, eyeing Katie “Gut feeling Stark, is this connected to the Rumlow case?”
“I dunno.” she shrugged “But one thing’s for sure, something stinks about all of this. And I don’t believe in co-incidences.”
“Me neither doll face.” Bucky mumbled, dodging the whiteboard pen she sent flying his way.
******
Three hours and a couple of sandwiches later Bucky and Katie had decided to call it a day. They had gone through Rumlow’s case again and needed a home cooked dinner and a good night’s sleep before they started digging on Sitwell’s school records the following day.
“Ok. My brain is fried. I’m heading home and praying for Tony not being there yet. Wish me luck.”
Bucky smiled at Katie over the screen of his computer. He saw her stand up from her chair and cross her fingers in the air before walking to the restroom. He was saving the documents on his computer and turning it off when he heard Steve.
“Anything significant?”
“Nope.” Bucky said leaning back on his chair and stretching his arms above his head. “Enough for today. And you too, Steve. Finish that coffee you’re drinking and I’ll drive us home.”
Steve nodded and turned around when he heard Katie’s voice from behind him.
“You shouldn’t even be here. Go home and rest, Stevie.” she said casually.
Bucky raised an eyebrow at Steve who rolled his eyes, but he turned to Katie when she let out a little squeal and saw her waving her phone in the air.
“Nat, Wanda come here! Got a message from Diaz!” she said excitedly “GIRL’S NIGHT OUT FRIDAY. How does that sound? She says Amy and Gina are coming too.”
“I’m in” Natasha said grinning at Bucky and turning to Wanda, who had also gathered around Katie’s desk, for confirmation.
“I don’t think I can… I’m sorry.” Wanda hesitated before adding “My cat is sick.”
“Your cat?” Nat asked her with sly eyes.
“Whatever…” Katie rolled her eyes and leant over her desk to switch off her computer “I’m only asking because I’m not petty enough to leave one person out” she muttered only for Bucky to hear.
“Leave it.” Bucky whispered back as he saw Wanda frown and open her mouth to retort to Katie’s initial eye roll and he gave Steve a warning look.
“Wanda.” Steve stepped in “Come to my office. There are some reports I want you to file before you go.” and he started walking away as she followed obediently.
“Ok. I’ll text Diaz saying we’re in Nat. Dinner and The Compound?” Katie asked while grabbing her jacket and purse.
“Perfect. And I’ll convince the little witch.” Nat nodded.
Katie just pursed her lips and nodded before waving everyone goodbye and walking away.
“Ok. All hands on deck. Clint come here!” Nat said her eyes shining with the excitement of plotting. “Barnes. Engage phase 2. We’re going out and we’ll be at the Compound after dinner, I’ll confirm our ETA as we go. You two bring Rogers and I’ll make sure Stark is a little bit intoxicated by then.” she said winking at Bucky.
“I’ll call Peralta, if Santiago is gonna be there, he’ll be up for it. See who else he can drag in.” Clint offered.
“Ok Buck, I’m ready. We can go now” Steve said and looked at them sensing he had stepped into something “Am I interrupting something here?”
“Nah. Nat was telling us the girls’ plans for Friday.” Bucky brushed him off.
“Oh, so you’re finally going out?” Steve smirked at Nat who rolled her eyes at his dig that it had taken her so long to organise something with Katie “But, you do know you and Stark are on call this weekend as Barton and Barnes have done the last two?”
“That we did.” Clint quipped
“It’s ok boss. We’ll behave.” Nat drawled as she spotted Wanda had returned to the reception desk. “Gotta go do something. See ya fellas.”
Steve sighed and shook his head at Bucky “Lets go, Buck. Bye Barton.”
******
“You’re a pain in the ass. No, you’re worse than a pain in the ass, you know that?” Bucky said while closing the car door after getting into the left back seat of Sam’s grey Mercedes Class C.
“What’s the deal?” Sam asked looking at Steve who was now fastening the seat belt of the passenger seat. Perks of being the Captain and still on recovery.
“He’s been grumpy all day. He didn’t want to come.” Bucky explained.
“I told you, I’m on duty this weekend.” Steve said turning his head to look at Bucky as Sam pulled away from the curb in front of Steve’s block.
And he was being truthful, he was the senior officer on call. It had been Holt’s turn last week, but as Bucky pointed out the chances of getting called in were low. Katie was the on duty Sergeant supported by Natasha and God forbid either of them would admit they couldn’t handle any possible situation and had to call their superior in.
“You have more chances of getting laid tonight than being called in tomorrow.” Clint deadpanned from the right back seat.
Steve groaned which made Sam chuckle and give a significant look to the men at the back through the rear-view mirror.
“Where are we going?” Steve asked trying to change the subject.
“We’re picking up Thor” Sam explained.
“And then?” Bucky asked “I’m hungry.”
“Yeah, what’s new? You’re always hungry.” Steve snorted.
“Tell me about it.” Clint scoffed. “I spent all day with him yesterday visiting goat farms upstate. Dude ate a donut dorito hot dog pizza all rolled up like a burrito! Can you believe it?” Clint asked leaning forward to speak to Steve and Sam.
“Hey, I was just optimizing my time.” Bucky shrugged and the three men shook their heads.
“We could stop at Grimaldi’s to have pizza and beers, feed the bastard. Then we’ll drop into the Compound.” Sam suggested.
Both Bucky and Sam nodded in agreement with the plan. Steve groaned again. He was worried about the case being in a deadlock. After two days of digging, they had nothing solid on Sitwell’s connection to Ross yet. Last thing he needed, if he was being honest, was taking care of a bunch of drunk friends and, what was more, he wasn’t gonna drive any of them home, it was Sam’s car after all, he had called designated driver. But then it dawned on him, they were going to the Compound and the girls would be there, wouldn’t they? Suddenly his spirits were lifted and a soft smile crossed his face. But he was snapped from his thoughts again by Bucky.
“Look, I know you’re pissed. You’re still sore from the accident, I get it.” Bucky started to scold him but was interrupted by Sam.
“We’re here. Can someone text him?” Sam announced pulling in a spot in front of Thor’s building.
“Got it.” Clint offered pulling out his phone.
He unclasped the car belt and moved closer to Bucky so as to leave space for Thor in the backseat while fiddling with his phone. Bucky stirred in his seat feeling suddenly trapped.
“Can you move your seat up?” he asked Sam
“No” Sam said without even flinching a muscle on his face.
“Asshole.” Bucky muttered.
He looked at Steve who seemed to be lost in his thoughts and then he turned to look at Clint who kept on texting on his phone.
“Ok. Peralta says he’s meeting us at the Compound. He’s having dinner with some video games buddies now but he’ll meet us later.” Clint informed the rest.
“Will Tony be there?” Steve asked suddenly.
“Of course he will” Clint snorted. “He clocks in day in and day out.”
“Yeah, Pepper has him wrapped around her finger.” Sam added nodding.
“Women.” Bucky sighed looking at his Captain who was looking at the front stoic as ever.
“Greetings, morons!”
Thor’s voice reverberated in the cabin of the car as he sat in the only free seat and closed the door grinning. Everyone greeted him back and Sam started the car again.
“Why are you carrying an umbrella?” Clint asked Thor “It isn’t even cloudy.”
“Oh! It’s my lucky charm.” he said happily. “My lucky umbrella, my father gave it to me when I was a kid.”
“This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.” Steve mused from the front seat.
“And a mistake. I mean are you gonna be attached to your lucky charm all night?” Sam asked, hands on the steering wheel.
“I make grave mistakes all the time, everything seems to work out in the end.” Thor shrugged and tapped Steve on the shoulder. “Captain, what are you doing here? I thought you were still recovering from your car crash. You should be sitting at home in your bathrobe, eating grapes.“
"Yeah, or plums.” Bucky added. “Don’t encourage him. He is enough grumpy as it is.”
“Yeah, not helping blondie.” Clint quipped.
“You’re so petty and tiny.” Thor scoffed.
They continued picking on one another for the rest of the journey and the time they spent at the pizza restaurant. Two hours later the five of them were at the main entrance to the Compound, one of the most popular clubs in Brooklyn in the last few years. The club was run by Pepper, Tony’s fiancé, so they were greeted warmly by Happy, the doorman, who let them in immediately after a short informal chat.
“Welcome, Gentlemen” Pepper greeted the group who had now approached the bar where she was chatting idly with Tony. “What a sight for sore eyes, Steve!” she added now kissing Steve on the cheek.
“Yeah, what brings you here Capsicle? Last time I checked you were in a hospital bed looking like shit.” Tony asked Steve.
“Yeah, Katie told us about it.” Pepper interjected signalling between her and Tony. “How are you now? Are you ok? Is there anything I can bring you?”
“I’m fine Pepper, honestly thank you, just a few cuts and bruises. And a glass of water would be great, thanks.”
“Water coming right up.” said Pepper gesturing for the barman to come and take their orders.
“Water, Rogers?” Tony mocked him. “Beers for all for starters. That’s on me and I’m buying a bottle of the best champagne we have so meet me in our private booth when you’re done.”
The group cheered happily at Tony’s offer and sat on the bar stools waiting for their drinks.
A pretty blonde waitress placed a glass of water and a beer bottle on the bar in front of Steve and winked at him, who obliviously took a painkiller from the blister and swallowed it with a bit of water. He didn’t want to take it but the constant bickering of his friends and the loud music and dim lights of the club were making his head pound.
He was sipping from his beer bottle when someone slapped his back causing him to wince at the pain.
“Hey, Rogers. Nice to see you man!” Peralta greeted.
“Hey, Jake. How you doin’?” Steve greeted back with a sincere smile while Peralta nodded and fist bumped Clint.
“Did you come alone?” Clint asked him.
“Yeah, but meeting a friend at some point tonight. He’s working until later.” Peralta answered as he shook hands with Bucky and Sam. “Barnes, good to see you again. Wilson?”
“Hey man.” Sam nodded, and Peralta looked beyond him towards Thor who was scanning the dance floor while moving his head and feet to the beat of the music.
“Oh, you brought Point Break.” Peralta quipped, turning to Clint.
“Yeah, you can’t get rid of him easily, especially if we’re talking about revels.” Clint commented.
“Revels?” Peralta asked frowning.
“A Party, that’s what he calls it.” Sam offered.
“Wow, and I thought Holt had a weird vocabulary.” Peralta muttered.
A little while later Thor had disappeared onto the dance floor and the rest were already on their second beer while chatting animatedly. Steve was beginning to regret having mixed alcohol and meds. Feeling a bit lightheaded, he was seriously considering calling a cab and going home when he heard Peralta whistle through his teeth and Bucky let out a breathy curse.
“Damned.”
“What?” he asked turning around to ask what was going on. They were both looking at the back of the Compound, towards the booths and that was when he noticed what had taken their attention. Katie was stood side on to them, talking to Tony. She was dressed in a dark blue short jumpsuit that sported a large white flowered pattern and a plunge neck line that dipped almost to her navel. Her shoes were high heeled black sandals with a silvery cuff round the ankle and as she turned to say something to Natasha, Steve saw that the back of the jumpsuit was bare bar where the fabric crossed across to each shoulder from the opposite hip.
God she looked gorgeous, scratch that, she looked more than gorgeous.
“Fuck!” Steve cursed when he noticed his beer had been dribbling down his front. He took a pair of cocktail napkins and tried to dry his shirt while Bucky, Peralta and Sam cackled at him. He groaned and continued wiping as Bucky put one arm over his shoulder.
“Keep it cool, man. It’s not like you don’t know what’s under those clothes.” he said in a low voice, winking at Steve.
“Shut up, Bucky.” Steve snapped but had to do as told as the girls were approaching the bar.
“Hey fellas.” Natasha drawled, “You coming over to join us?”
“Once Rogers has dried off, yeah.” Clint said.
Diaz looked at him, frowning. “Dried off.” “Yeah someone nudged me and I spilt…” he said, gesturing to the front of his shirt.
Katie shrugged “Can’t see anything, your shirt’s black.”
“It’s nice.” Wanda nodded, looking at Steve. He took a deep breath, thinking back to what Bucky had said and merely smiled at the woman politely. Behind Wanda he saw Diaz and Natasha exchange a smirk. Katie, however, was focussed on something else.
“Is that the one I bought you for your birthday last year?” Katie asked, reaching out to gently run her hand over the collar, and Steve nodded and didn’t miss the scowl on Wanda’s face. Totally oblivious to the daggers she was being given, Katie grinned “Wanda’s right, it looks good.”
He smiled at her and then turned politely to Wanda who had said something to him, and Bucky watched as Katie’s eyes lingered on them both for a little longer her eyebrow raised, almost in amusement at the other woman’s attempts to flirt with Steve fell flat.
“You want Stevie to go into cardiac arrest or something?” Buck leaned over to talk into her ear and she turned to look at him “The man is drugged and on alcohol and then you come along looking like that.”
“Fuck off Bucky.” Katie bit back “I wore this because it makes me feel good, you asshole, not for anyone else. And it’s not like I knew you were coming. Why are you guys even here anyway?”
“Boys’ night out” Bucky shrugged.
Katie raised an eyebrow at him “Yeah, of all the places you could pick to go you just…”
At that she stopped and her head cocked to one sided as she caught the first beats of a song playing.
“Oh, God!” she squealed. Bucky was just about to ask her what was going on but he was too late, she leaned towards Steve and gently grabbed his hand, turning his attention away from Wanda as she curled her hand round his.
“Stevie, listen.”
A big mischievous grin crossed Steve’s face when he heard the song and next thing he knew he was being dragged by Katie to the dance floor. Leaving Wanda slack jawed with frustration.
“What the fuck? Is he dancing?” Bucky asked Clint and Nat who were stood at the bar next to him, unable to keep his eyes from Katie and Steve dancing and laughing like crazy to I’ll be there for you by The Rembrandts.
“Yeah, they always dance to this, it’s like their song.” Clint answered before sipping from his beer bottle.
“Give him a minute, he will do his Joey.” Natasha told Bucky while keeping an eye on Wanda who had just sidled back into the booth and was now pouting and stabbing the bar with her cocktail umbrella. At that Steve launched into some kind of odd dance move, which he still manage to make look quite graceful “Oh, yep. There we go.”
“Unbelievable” Bucky mused shaking his head, happy to see his bestie cut loose. “She really brings out that kid from Brooklyn, doesn’t she?”
“You could say that.” Nat said with a side smile while Clint nodded in agreement. They all watched as one of Steve’s arms curled round Katie’s waist, his large hand splaying on her back as they continued to dance around to the upbeat music, Katie’s head tipped back in laughter and a huge grin spread across Steve’s face.
At that point Bucky heard Wanda snort and strut down the club to the restrooms bumping into people on her way.
“Ah leave her.” Natasha said with a sigh, draining her glass.
“So Rogers has two women fighting over him…” Peralta leaned back “Lucky bastard.” “He’s eyes for no one but Stark.” Bucky said, shrugging “So wouldn’t really call it a fight.” “Well, to be honest, I wouldn’t really want to get in a fight with Stark anyway…” Peralta nodded. “Damned she can be vicious.”
***** A few hours later they were all sat together in Tony’s private booth drinking champagne, except for Katie who had finished her drink and had gone dancing with Rosa and Gina, and Steve who had gone to the restroom.
"This bottle is empty.” Thor said shaking the bottle in the air.
“I’ll go fetch another one.” Tony said standing up ceremoniously.
“I don’t want that bubbly shit. Anyone in for some tequila shots?” Thor asked as he also stood up and went to the bar without waiting for an answer.
“Oh…my…God!” Natasha suddenly slurred nudging Clint who was beside her.
"This is better than we expected” Clint whispered, grinning.
“What? What’s happening” Bucky asked.
He looked at Natasha who didn’t answer but he followed her gaze only to spot a tall handsome brunette chatting with Peralta and Santiago.
“What is he doing here?”  Nat hissed to Clint
“Don’t know. Must be the buddy Peralta said he was meeting.“ Clint answered Nat.
"Who is he?” Bucky frowned.
“Storm” Wanda, who was nibbling a piece of lime, explained to Bucky “He’s a fireman and has the hots for Stark” she practically purred.
“Well, this is awkward.” Sam deadpanned.
“You know what? I’m gonna help Thor with the shots.” Wanda said to the group.
“Ok. I’m lost” Bucky said once Wanda was out of earshot.
“Phase 2, Barnes” Natasha’s eyes glinted “The plan was getting them drunk and leave them alone, wasn’t it? But, this is brilliant!” she clapped excitedly. “Steve’s gonna see him here, get all jealous and protective…”
“Ok, but someone needs to keep flash fire dude away from Stark until Captain Slow can make his move…” Sam warned looking as Steve was coming back from the restroom and was approaching the bar.
"Uh oh, too late” Bucky said moving his head towards Wanda who was talking to Johnny Storm and pointing at Katie’s direction before she gestured to their booth.
“Fuck.” Clint hissed.
“Should have seen that coming.” Natasha groaned.
“Can’t blame her, Witchy is only playing the cards she has left.” Clint chuckled.
“All right, Steve coming at your 9. Everybody play it cool. Let’s see how this unfolds.” Sam muttered.
It was only seconds after Steve had sat in the booth with another beer in his hands that Thor came carrying a tray with shots and a bottle of tequila, followed by Wanda and Johnny.
“Here, let me help you.” Wanda offered Thor.
“I told you I can handle this” he said placing the tray on the table “Fortunately, I am mighty.” he said casually tossing the bottle in the air and catching it expertly.
Bucky saw as Natasha gave a filthy look to Wanda who was now sitting between her and Steve.
“What? Wanda whispered.
"You know what.” Natasha muttered at her.
Steve’s eyes flickered up to the dark haired man and he did a double take. That was the Flash Fireman, the friend of Peralta’s that Katie had been talking to at the Christmas Party. He took a deep breath and felt his shoulders stiffen slightly as he looked around, spotting that Katie, Diaz and Gina were making their way over. He took a deep breath and his nostrils flared as Johnny blatantly looked Katie up and down as she made her way over.
“S’Up Fire Boy?” Diaz asked him “No kittens to rescue from a tree?”
“Off duty…” Johnny grinned “And stop pretending you’re not happy to see me Diaz.” “Yeah, that’s her happy face, just for clarity.” Gina nodded, folding her arms “Her angry face…well, no one who’s seen it has lived to tell the tale.”
There were a few chuckles from the table until Thor roared out that it was time for shots. Katie slid into the booth on the spare seat next to Johnny as Bucky and Steve both stood up to grab extra stools for Diaz and Gina. Once they were all seated Thor passed the shots around and Steve hastily slammed his down as he watched Katie leaning slightly into Johnny, the pair of them chatting. As Steve watched he held out his arm of his jacket and Katie smiled, reaching out to gently stroke it.
“You like it?” he asked looking at her “It’s a new material made by my sister, she’s an engineer.”  he said sliding an arm around Katie’s shoulder “It keeps the hot stuff hot and the cool stuff cool.”
“Yeah, can’t have your brain overheating, can we?” Steve jabbed at him, rolling his eyes.
Bucky chuckled at Steve’s comment and Katie tried to hide her smile sipping from her glass.
“I’m not wearing a hat.” Johnny frowned earning a withering look from Steve and Katie choked on her Martini. At that point there was no hiding the grin spreading across her face and Bucky saw her glance at Steve, probably to share another one of those knowing, inside smiles, but her expression slipped.  He looked over to see Wanda laugh at Steve’s joke and hold onto his left arm. And the Captain made no move to shrug her off. Instead, he turned into her, his arm moving only to drape round the back of the bench they were on.
Uh Oh.
“Are you ok, princess?” Bucky’s attention flicked back to Johnny who was looking at Katie. “Wanna dance?” he asked with his playful signature smile.
“Yeah, why not?” She said, shooting another glare at Steve. She stood up and flash fired dude slipped his arm round her, hand gripping at her hip as he steered her into the middle of the dancefloor
“I’m dancing too.” Natasha said standing up “And you’re all coming with me. This is a girl’s night after all…”she added dragging Wanda up out of the seat before she turned around and mouthed do something at Bucky.
Bucky looked at Clint and Sam for support, he wasn’t sure what it was that Natasha expected him to do. The situation was disastrous enough as it was.
The pretty blond waitress from the bar came to collect the tray and empty bottles scattered over the table and gave Steve an intense look.
"Want another drink or anything else, handsome? A dance maybe?”
“No thanks” Steve groaned. He stood up and simply said “Excuse me” before walking towards the bar.
“What’s wrong with him?” she asked Bucky and Sam who were looking at her sympathetically.
“Don’t take it personally. He’s in love.” Bucky shrugged.
“Oh, so is he taken?” she asked apologetically.
“Not exactly…” Sam tried to explain.
“What? Is she blind or something?” the waitress said wiping the table with a rag.
“Something like that.” Clint scoffed.
Bucky sat back and tried to come up with a way to redirect the situation. Jealous and drunk Steve was not a good combination but now it was pointless trying to fix the disaster as he saw Steve perched on a stool by the bar, another beer in hand, looking at the dance floor like a wolf.
And then, it was almost like it was happening in slow motion. Wanda, who had slunk off the dancefloor made her way over to Steve where she draped herself, shamelessly over him. And before Bucky could even move to warn Steve, as he could see what was happening a mile off, she’d slipped her arms round his neck and pulled him down to kiss her.
Bucky let out a groan and he turned to the dancefloor to see Natasha stood there, hand over her mouth and she turned to look at him. He waved his hand over his throat furiously, in an attempt to get Natasha to sort it out but it was too late.  Bucky’s eyes flickered to Katie whose attention was fully on Steve and her face fell.
“You left Wanda unleashed!” Bucky practically yelled, exaggerating his words so Natasha could see what he was saying, as he pointed in the direction of Steve and Wanda at the bar.
“Abort phase two. This is a disaster.” Clint groaned. Meanwhile, Thor laughed loudly and clapped.
“Matchmakers of the year, ladies and gentlemen!” he said.
“Where you even here?” Clint asked visibly annoyed.
In all fairness to Steve, he hadn’t been expecting Wanda to make a move like that. It took a while for his drunken brain to catch up with what was going on, but when he finally did he gently caught Wanda on the hips and pushed her away.
“Wanda…” he shook his head “I’m sorry, you’re a great girl and everything but…”
He stood up and looked around, and then he felt his heart sink. Katie and the Fancy Fireman were heading for the exit, hand in hand. Bucky was also watching the two of them leave, and his attention turned to Steve and the utter look of devastation the Captain wore.
Fuck.

generic fantasy au pidge because i guess we’re doing this on dash tonight
pidge is a ram faun, with bighorn-sheep horns and little light brown sheepie leggies from the mid-thigh down. her fluffy, curly hair hides her horns for the most part, and what she can’t obscure with that, she hides under the hood of a cloak. she hides her hooves and digitigrade gait under wide trousers. if people do see the horns and do pick up on her peets, they just assume she’s a boy faun, because only boy sheep have horns, right? (wrong, actually, like, scientifically speaking.) why a ram? because she’s an aries and it’s cute.
she wasn’t born a faun, she was cursed. aside from the, y’know, cute little sheep girl shit, which! she’d like to get reversed someday! she hates it! she was supposed to be taller! she wishes she could wear her hair longer since she wouldn’t have to hide her horns! anyway. she also has the same low level of innate magical talent that runs in the holt family. she’s not sure whether it came on with the curse or not, but she feels like she can... communicate with animals maybe? or maybe she’s just misinterpreting, but she feels like she blends in a lot more than she used to when she’s out foraging or traveling, and it feels like the forest talks to her. she’s literate, which is a skill in itself. she can track, which she learned from sam and matt. she is building her own bestiary and herbal guide from the knowledge she’s picked up over the years, and honestly it’s pretty encyclopedic at this point. with that knowledge, she knows how to make tinctures for healing, poisons for damage, oils to increase blade damage, or even bombs. her chosen weapon for self-defense is a curved knife (that once belonged to her brother) and a garrote wire; she also has a rope kit for climbing if she needs to. she’s also trying to teach herself how to replicate ‘magic’ since she doesn’t have that level of talent herself.
how she got cursed is a long story and not necessary to enjoy a Generic Pidge AU but is included under the cut for completeness reasons.
the holt family is a family of researchers, a little on the magical side but strictly speaking not to the level where they would be considered ‘gifted.’ what they research is monster properties. you could consider them monster hunters, but honestly they’re like magical biologists, a lot of catch and release, a lot of samples, trying not to kill the poor things. sam’s pretty experienced and matt apprenticed under him for a long time. colleen holds down the fort while they’re gone as an herbalist and a local ‘wise woman.’ katie always wanted to go with sam and matt on their little journeys but was told she had to stay home, she was too young.
about three years ago, sam and matt were on the trail of a powerful old leshen-like creature that they had yet to collect data on. they picked up some help in tracking it down and guiding it through the leshen’s forest from a ranger. if you guessed shiro, you get zero points. after four months, when the winter snows started sledging up, the expedition was declared a failure. of course, the start of the next winter, a man crawled out of the forest, nearly unrecognizable as the former ranger. he’d lost his right arm; a makeshift limb made of living branches had somehow been grafted on in its place, clearly magical but of no known human origin. he also now had a scar across his face. (turns out he’d been kidnapped by the indigenous forest-dwellers [dryads??? idk take this for what it is i’m making this up as i go] and taken care of after the fucking leshen decided the expedition was out to harm it; they saved his life, but at the cost of making him into a shapeshifter. the mark on his face was one that he chose, rather than the people’s traditional brand to one cheek.)
sam and matt are still missing. damn sam for being such a good researcher, but he’s left so few traces that he’s generally considered a lost cause to find. there’s still a trail for matt, but it’s gone cold. pidge is doing all the research she can to find her family, still. it brought her to the ‘castle’ (maison? manor? it’s not very nice) of the local warlord. he has a repository of writings that have all the information she needs to track down her family, as well as a stash of monster parts and some potent, exotic herbs that don’t generally grow in her region. pidge made a habit of breaking in, copying information, and getting out before she could get caught--except that she did. she started the same week she learned her family had gone missing and managed not to get caught for maybe three months. when she was, though, the warlord’s punishment was severe. he confiscated all the contraband that was on pidge at the time, or at least what he thought was contraband, which included some of her clothes because they were ‘too rich for her blood.’ and threw her out into the snow like that. the power of his fury lent to his captive sorceress led to pidge’s curse. (iverson and sanda.)
after that, she couldn’t really go home, so she’s just been... wandering, ever since. lending tinkering skills to a village for a few weeks at a time, then moving on before people can figure out that she’s a ‘disgusting half-breed’ or a cursed child. she picks up what knowledge she can from the people she meets, but it’s never much from just one source at a time.

( 𝚟𝚒𝚌𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚒𝚊 𝚙𝚎𝚍𝚛𝚎𝚝𝚝𝚒 & 𝚌𝚒𝚜 𝚏𝚎𝚖𝚊𝚕𝚎 ) + you know 𝘗𝘙𝘜𝘋𝘌𝘕𝘊𝘌 𝘝𝘈𝘕 𝘏𝘖𝘓𝘛, the 25 year-old 𝘗𝘙𝘐𝘝𝘈𝘛𝘌 𝘐𝘕𝘝𝘌𝘚𝘛𝘐𝘎𝘈𝘛𝘖𝘙 that has lived in eldstead 𝘚𝘌𝘝𝘌𝘕 𝘠𝘌𝘈𝘙𝘚? i heard she has a tendency to be 𝘙𝘌𝘚𝘖𝘜𝘙𝘊𝘌𝘍𝘜𝘓, 𝘐𝘕𝘛𝘌𝘕𝘛𝘐𝘖𝘕𝘈𝘓, 𝘋𝘐𝘚𝘖𝘉𝘌𝘋𝘐𝘌𝘕𝘛 & 𝘚𝘜𝘙𝘓𝘠. the 𝘛𝘈𝘜𝘙𝘜𝘚 has equipped 𝘒𝘌𝘠 in time for the full moon.
HI i’m hero, 22, i lov horror movies and no longer have a shudder subscription :pensive: normally i do these on google docs but i’m lazy and prue is Incredibly New so i’m still trying to get the hang of things
name: prudence van holt  nicknames: prue, p age: 25 gender: cis woman pronouns: she/her d.o.b.: april 23, 1995 zodiac: taurus sexual orientation: homosexual homoromantic mbti: isfj - the protector character inspo: wynonna earp, veronica mars, prudence halliwell (mayb i took the name don’t look @ me) aesthetics: a steaming mug of black coffee, deep green woollen sweaters, golden rings and necklaces adorning her, a camera hanging around her neck, the mist of the morning, a deer grazing in the forest, the heavy thud of boots against old hardwood, a grandfather clock striking the witching hour
HISTORY
triggers: child abandonment, car accident (drunk driving), death
prudence van holt’s birth is a mystery-- all she knows is she was dropped off at the fire station in a town outside of seattle, the only identification a baby blanket with her name on it.
she ends up being adopted by a couple, the van holts, who always wanted multiple kids but could not after their first, a boy.
growing up, she’s always been a little shit. she doesn’t mean to be. she just has an insatiable curiosity, sticking her nose in other’s businesses, finding lost things, she had a strange knack for it. it got her into a lot of trouble, children had no business sticking their nose into adults’ things.
her brother never really liked her-- he always resented the fact their parents brought her home, took her in, when they already had a perfectly fine child needing attention. petty things, except it’s sparked a life long sibling rivalry that runs deep.
it’s a pretty uneventful childhood, her parents are good people, they provide for her, and support her, despite her troublesome antics.
she’s always been a lonely child, she’s never had the easiest time making friends, so she’s spent a lot of her time exploring the woods near her home.
she’s thirteen when she discovers her mother, whom she always has written off as simply eccentric, is more than that-- she’s a witch. and a good one, too. her book club meetings she’s often privvy to walking through is more than that, it’s her coven.
so of course, prue wants in-- how can she not? it’s a whole new world, working under her mother’s wing, driving a wedge further between herself and her brother. she tells her to be careful, to watch her back, that there’s bad people who want to do bad things with the power they wield. it instills a deeper ideal of trust no one in prudence-- one that sticks with her to this day.
and she’s dedicated to the craft! she takes time to learn the different meanings and uses of herbs, flowers, etc., makes potions, cast spells-- perhaps sometimes for personal gain, but she’s dedicated herself to using them to help others.
she sort of becomes a private investigator in high school, not on purpose, but a friend tasks her to find out if her boyfriend is cheating on her, so tails him, catches him in the act-- gives him a little hex for good measure.
it becomes a thing, people need something found? they go to her. think their partner is fooling around? they go to her. and she delivers, all with a little touch of magic. eventually, she wants to go deeper, take on more serious cases, but alas she’s only a teenager.
sike! that doesn’t stop her. and as much as she hates cops, she has an in at the department through her father, so soon she’s not so legally trying to solve murders.
and that’s all fine and dandy, until just a month shy of her eighteenth birthday, and two months before she graduates from high school, her parents get into a car accident coming home from a meeting one night. a drunk driver swerves into their side of the road, hitting them head on. neither survive.
it’s that that has her change her mind about college, why go to college when she already knows what she wants to do? life is fleeting, and she’s hurting, so she graduates, and moves to eldstead, a town an hour and half away from her own home. it’s not a big change, but enough for her to have a fresh start.
she knows something is different about the storm when it hits, that it brought about something... destructive. and she’s inclined to get to the bottom of all of it. it’s in her nature-- she has to snoop.
she runs her own private investigation that used to serve eldstead and the surrounding area, but now it’s simply eldstead. she makes her own hours, and works alone, because she prefers it that way.
PERSONALITY
she’s really closed off-- she prefers to be alone, because of the shit she’s seen, and the people in her life, she just expects to be let down.
when you first meet her, there’s a chance she’s just going to brush you off. she’s not exactly the friendliest person out there?
will she be an asshole for the sake of being an asshole? no. absolutely not. but she is unflinchingly honest about her observations, and that doesn’t always go over well.
very much a ‘do the thing first, ask for forgiveness later type of person’-- doesn’t have a lot of regard for rules that aren’t her own. (*dw voice* that sign can’t stop me bc i can’t read!)
if u do manage to be friends with her, she’s got ur mf back she’s unflinchingly loyal and if you break her trust, you’re pretty much dead to her lol
TIDBITS
she has a black cat (wow a witch with a black cat...... groundbreaking) named inkblot (creative, rly), nicknamed inky like the pacman ghost
surprisingly high alcohol tolerance, loves 2 go for a beer or a whiskey at the end of a long day
lives in cableknit sweaters-- this is the pnw i mean a bitch be cold
doesn’t really date? she came out when she was 16, and there’s been a couple relationships, but they never really pan out-- it’s always because of her. she doesn’t know how to open up
swears a lot
has a pretty good understanding of basic hand to hand combat just in case perps get a little rowdy, took boxing classes for abt 4 years?
probably an elderly person when it comes to social media, kinda likes to keep a low profile but she also posts a shit ton of pictures of her cat
INCREDIBLY good at finding lost things-- keys, phones, dogs, u name it she just knows-- and she doesnt know if its the intuition that comes from being a witch or just herself
prob should join a coven, but shes a lone wolf awoo
prob barks at men idk
lives off of black coffee, doesn’t rly sleep
has multiple ear piercings and a couple tattoos but she usually keeps them hidden
WANTED CONNECTIONS
informant - she gets information from them for her cases, they got a p good grasp
someone she’s solved a case for - p self explanatory, now they’re friendly enough, or perhaps she couldn’t stand them and did it for the money
someone who wants to be her friend but she’s weary - tbh shes weary of everybody
coven adjacent - another witch, maybe theyre trying to get her to band together with them
drinking buddy - they meet at the bar and shoot the shit
opposites attract - friend who is nothing like them! but still hangs around!
someone she feels like she has 2 protect - for whatever reason, even tho they can prob take care of themselves, prue is super fkn protective of them
a genuine friend - yeah she just needs one idk she’s doing her best
ex (f/nb) - someone she dated for a little bit but they broke up because of prue’s inability to open tf up
fwb (f/nb) - ? maybe we all got needs, and she’s not looking for a relationship
attraction (f/nb) - there’s tension and neither know why!
rival - to paraphrase a tumblr post what is a rival if not a crush you’re unhappy abt
pure of heart, dumb of ass and lesbian - i just love this trope
sibling like - someone who she genuinely sees as a younger/older sibling... goes to them for shit... protects them
frenemies - theyre not rly friends but they dont entirely hate each other either?
tbh anything

we can stay here (and laugh away the fear)
93. “i believe in you” requested by no-one i just really wanted to do this one in which amy's confidence takes a knock and jake whips out the official jake peralta fiancé experience guide to help her out. (pre 5x15)
read on ao3 -
Something is bothering Amy.
Jake goes over the facts one more time in his head, sneaking a furtive glance at his fiancée over the top of his computer screen – his first clue was when she came out of Holt’s office twenty minutes ago with a slight slump in her shoulders, a blatant violation of the “Posture” section of her mentorship binder.
She’s taking twice as long as usual to do her paperwork and it doesn’t even look like she’s enjoying it. Her brows are furrowed and her lips pursed in this totally adorable yet slightly worrying way and she’s tapping absentmindedly on her desk in thirty-second increments, meaning she’s desperate for a shame cigarette. Conclusive evidence that something is stressing her out.
(The thing that’s stressing her out might be him seeing as he’s been bragging about a major drug bust he just pulled off for most of the morning; but he also brought her coffee and did the dishes last night and laundry mountain is now more of a laundry molehill, so he’s pretty sure he’s in the clear.)
They don’t call him Jacob Sherlock Peralta for nothing (no-one calls him that, but he’s still confident it’ll catch on eventually). And though he can’t figure out what it is just yet, he’s determined to solve the case of why the love of his life can’t even enjoy her paperwork.
To: Amy Santiago, 12:23 u ok? need a break???
He tries to act as nonchalant as possible but can’t bring himself to miss the tiny smile that flickers on her face upon seeing the text. He pretends to be absorbed in the criminal database he’s scouring while he waits for his phone to buzz.
From: Amy Santiago, 12:24 I’m fine.
He shoots her an overdramatic disbelieving look over his monitor and she rolls her eyes.
From: Amy Santiago, 12:24 Okay, maybe not totally fine. Can we talk? x
To: Amy Santiago, 12:25 meet me in evidence lockup 5 mins x
She’s there when he quietly closes the door behind him a few minutes later; it causes such a strong swell of deja vu, memories of so, a lot of change around here and more recently Jake Peralta, I will marry you that it almost overwhelms him. So he does what he always does.
“Thought I might find you in here.” He jokes – she laughs a little but her body language is so tightly wound that he moves almost on pure instinct to give her a hug. The way the tension instantly disappears from her frame as she buries her face in his shirt tells him he must be doing something right.
“You okay?” He says softly, pressing a kiss to her forehead; she looks up at him, hands still snaked neatly around his waist, and he’d let all the criminals in holding walk free if it would make her feel better.
(Not that it would – he’s never been that good with metaphors, but the sentiment remains.)
“Fine. Really, I just…I needed this.”
“You sure?” He asks, and he can tell when he only gets a sigh in response that he’s going to have to break out the Official Jake Peralta Fiancé Experience Guide to Comforting Amy Santiago, The Greatest Woman In The Universe. (The title still needs some work.)
“It’s just…the results of the sergeant’s exam come out this week. Holt just told me.”
“Oh.” He says, trying to connect the dots. “That’s a good thing, though, right? You’ve been waiting for ages - and you totally aced that test, Ames.”
“Yeah. Maybe.” She shakes her head, biting her lip. “I just can’t help thinking – what if I don’t get it?” He prepares a reprisal of the speech he made that day on the roof, but she continues. “And what if I do, and I can’t handle it? What if it’s way too much work or my squad doesn’t respect me or I get transferred or…“ It’s a spiral, he realises – a knock to her confidence that breaks his heart a little.
Fortunately, it’s also something he knows exactly how to handle, and it involves one of his top five favourite activities.
“Have I ever told you,” Jake says as he takes her hands in his, “that you are perfect?”
Amy predictably rolls her eyes at his blatant cheesiness, but the hint of a smile that appears on her face is more than enough fuel for him to keep going.
“Well, you are. Perfect! Perfecter than perfect.”
“It’s more perfect, babe.” She says, and a million years ago in 2013 he’s wearing ill-fitting sandals and Captain Holt is disappointed in him and Jake just wants to find a way to rip through the very fabric of space and time, grab his past self by the shoulders and tell him that using correct grammar is going to get him some of the best sex in his life in the future so he better start learning now.
(And also, as an afterthought, that everything is going to be okay.)
“Actually, no.” He grins, shit-eating Peralta special. “Because in the language that I just made up, perfecter is actually more perfect that more perfect. Perfecter than perfect is a special term invented for the light of my life, the most amazing woman in the history of the universe, Amy Santiago.”
She prods him lightly in the shoulder, now completely failing to tamper down a warm smile. “Dork.”
“Queen of the cosmos. The one true love of my life. Divine goddess of wisdom and beauty.” He punctuates every new fancy title he gives her with a kiss – one to her neck, one to her jaw, one to her cheek, and gains a great sense of satisfaction from the way she melts into him, humming in content.
He initially thinks he’s won this round, but she still looks way too stressed out, exercising a relatively new nervous habit that makes his heart stutter – twisting the engagement ring on her finger.
“You don’t believe me.” He pouts and she sighs, briefly retreating someplace he can’t follow her. When she finally returns his gaze she’s all dark doe eyes and he’s sure there’s space somewhere in his Addams Family themed wedding vow rap for one more promise; a commitment to convincing her she’s more than enough for the rest of his life.
“Nobody’s perfect, Jake.”
“Yeah, no doy. That’s why you’re perfecter than perfect, obviously.”
“I just…I worry, you know? I feel like I need to prove myself.”
“I know. But Ames, you have proven yourself a billion trillion times over. I told you when I proposed, you’re the best detective I know…and there’s no-one else that deserves this more and no-one else that is going to be a better sergeant than you are.”
“Thank you for being perfect.”
“I am flawless, yes.” He grins, but it soon turns into something softer. “I believe in you 100%, okay, babe? You’re going to be an amazing leader.”
“I love you.”
“Love you too. I also feel like the word perfect is beginning to lose all meaning.”
“Oh, there’s a name for that!” She pauses, lost in thought, and sometimes he wishes you could take package holidays in other people’s brains just because he’d love to walk among the endless bookshelves of infinite knowledge in hers, and sometimes he just gets lost in endless endearment for how much of a nerd his fiancée is. This time is definitely the latter.
She snaps her fingers after a moment, eyes bright – “Semantic satiation!”
“That’s so hot.” He smirks, and he’s only half joking. They share a chaste, probably work-appropriate kiss – Jake’s tempted to deepen it, but also not totally convinced that the ghost of Dozerman isn’t frowning down upon them right now so decides to keep it PG. It doesn’t matter anyway – they’re soon rudely interrupted by a loud rap on the door which makes them both jump apart.
“You two horndogs finished being gross in there? I need a case file.”
They both answer with similar cries of indignation and disgust, which just elicits a sharp laugh from Rosa.
“Whatever. Just tell me when you’re done.” She walks away, and Jake laughs at the shade of red Amy has turned, earning him a well-deserved punch in the shoulder.
“So, you wanna get lunch? I happen to know a polish place recommended by a pretty dope soon-to-be sergeant.” Her face lights up and in just a few short months they’re going to be married and Jake has never been more excited for the rest of his life to start.
“Sounds perfect.”

take my hand, take my whole life too
gratuitous post-prison morning cuddles + amy refers to jake as the love of her life, and jake, being the little shit he is, decides to mess with her despite already having every intention to marry her
read on ao3
The first Saturday morning Jake spends at home begins with rays of sunlight peeking through the curtains, dark hair splayed across his chest and the soft hum of traffic outside their window.
Before he’s aware of any of this, before he’s opened his eyes or has woken enough to be cognizant of his surroundings, he feels the small, familiar frame of his girlfriend in his arms. They’re in almost the same positions in which they fell asleep, neither of them straying too far throughout the night. He can feel her warm, even breaths, her arm snugly wrapped around his torso, her head tucked into his shoulder; all the pieces of his once again shattered world coming back together.
He tightens his grip on her reflexively and, as she begins to stir, hopes that he hasn’t accidentally woken her. Much like himself, he knows that she’s still catching up on months of lost sleep. To his relief, she merely snuggles closer to him and murmurs against his neck in a voice so low and muffled that it’s almost imperceptible, “love you.”
He very quickly realizes that she hasn’t woken up yet, that she’s still oblivious to every aspect of the world aside from the fact that he is here and she loves him. Warmth begins to bubble deep in his chest, rising to his throat and making it increasingly hard not to burst into tears over how much he loves this woman. He’s always struggled with words of emotion, but lately. he can’t even begin to convey how deeply and profoundly grateful he is for Amy Santiago.
She’s done everything and more for him. Holt briefly mentioned her endless hours working the case on top of her usual workload, her determination to bring him home rivaled by none; his mother spent a good portion of their lunch yesterday fawning over his girlfriend and telling him how she called to check in on a weekly basis and even came over for Yom Kippur dinner a couple weeks ago just to make sure that she wasn’t alone, despite the fact that it was visibly painful for her to be there without Jake; Charles went on and on about how Amy was willing to sacrifice everything just to get him and Rosa out.
He has no idea how he could ever repay her for all of that, but vowing to love her just as vehemently for the rest of his life seems like a good start.
(If all goes to plan on Halloween, he’s much closer to being able to fulfill that promise.)
For the moment, he settles for burying his face in her hair and pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head, murmuring an even quieter “I love you” in return.
The slight movement causes her to stir again, her lips releasing a soft hum of contentment as her eyes flutter open and land on his face. Half-lidded with sleep, her dark brown irises shine with adoration and wonder, accompanied by a bright smile as she lifts her head to rest her chin on his chest.
“Morning,” she says, idly reaching up to run her fingers through his messy bed hair (it’s no secret how much she cares for it).
He cups the back of her head to pull her in for a long, sufficiently drawn-out kiss, her lips soft and compliant against his as she cradles his cheek and slides her leg in between his.
“Morning, babe,” he mumbles into the kiss, accentuating it with a peck before pulling back.
They resume their position from before, only now their legs are intertwined as well and Amy’s hugging him more tightly than she did in sleep. Mornings like this, free of work or any sort of responsibility to the outside world, are reserved for these quiet moments of intimacy and relaxation.
Still, in typical Santiago fashion, Amy usually makes sure that this part of their day stays in the morning and it’s getting dangerously close to noon according to the clock on his bedside table. They rarely sleep in this late, but they’ve essentially lost all concept of time in the few days he’s been home. Other than seeing his mom, getting drinks with the squad and going to Gina’s to meet the baby, they’ve hardly found a reason to leave this bed.
“We should get up and make breakfast,” Amy says - right on cue.
He’s already forming a game plan to negotiate a few more minutes; he has a couple tricks up his sleeve with varying success rates (for example, he would place going down on her at around 90% and offering to clean the apartment later somewhere closer to 40%) that he’s willing to implement.
“Or we could stay and cuddle for at least another half-hour.”
“Hmm...” She muses, and he’s mentally gearing up to begin his methods of persuasion. He doesn’t get the chance to pull out any of his tricks before Amy slips her hand under his t-shirt and nuzzles her face into his neck, inhaling softly and closing her eyes once more. “Okay, a few more minutes.”
She never does this.
“Since when is it this easy to convince you to stay in bed?” Jake wonders, still sliding his hands under her sweater and pulling her impossibly closer to take full advantage of these extra minutes. “I didn’t even have to ploy you with sexy times.”
Amy glances up at him quickly, just long enough for him to see a flash of the anguish that she’s so clearly been trying to hide from him since he got back. She’s always trying to be strong for him, even though he knows that this ordeal has been painful for her just as it has been for him and Rosa,  even though he’s made it clear to her that they need to heal together.
Her lips press against his neck, warm and gentle, before she responds.
“Since the love of my life went to prison,” she mumbles softly. “And I really, really missed this.”
The words ring in his ears: love of my life. Amy Santiago, inarguably the most incredible person in the history of the universe as Jake knows it, considers him to be the love of her life.
The title doesn’t surprise him - there’s no way it could after she’s given him all of her love for the past two years, stayed by his side through every hardship and brought him home to her when the universe did its best to tear them apart. Of course, he’s likeminded in the idea that she’s the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with (a moment of epiphany on April twenty-eighth, an elaborate proposal plan concocted in his prison cell to keep him from going insane and the ring he purchased the day after he was exonerated are proof of that).
But, doesn’t mean he can’t mess with her.
He shifts away only slightly to get a better view of her face and prop himself up on one elbow, sporting a small smirk. “So...I’m the love of your life, huh?”
Much to his delight - and his expectation, because he knows her so well (she is the love of his damn life, after all) - a deep blush creeps its way into Amy’s cheeks and toward the tip of her nose.
“I just meant-”
“It’s okay, babe,” he says with a gentle laugh to put her slightly at ease, kissing her rosy cheek. “Say it again?”
She rolls her eyes and buries her face in his shoulder.
“C’mon,” Jake whines, pecking her temple twice, “say it again.”
“I don’t wanna-”
His hands move from her back to her stomach, beginning to tickle her just below the ribs, a spot he knows to be her weakest point. As she starts to squeal and protest, he climbs over her where she lays on her back and begins to lay equally incapacitating kisses down her neck, eliciting even more giggling.
“Fine,” Amy exclaims through carefree laughter, gently pushing him back to meet her eye line. “You’re the love of my life, Jake Peralta. Are you happy?”
Now hovering over her, he allows himself a moment to memorize every detail of her face just in case - god forbid - some additional cruel twist of fate forces them to part and he’s once again left with nothing but a printed photo that couldn’t begin to capture her beauty. These fears evaporate in an instant as she reaches up to stroke his cheek with the back of her hand; her eyes are shining with joy and love and maybe a little bit of disbelief (he too is struggling to comprehend how this can be real when a few days ago he was sitting in a cell waiting to be murdered).
“So happy,” he concedes, pecking her lips once, twice. In a lighter, teasing tone, he adds, “Oh, you’re mine too, by the way.”
“I thought your ’soulmate was New York pizza’?” Amy quips, referencing his words during their first meal together a few nights ago after he was released.
He pretends to ponder it for a moment, stroking his chin while she laughs softly. He missed making her laugh like this - more than the pizza, more than this bed, more than almost anything.
“Nah, it’s definitely you.”
His features soften with affection as she smiles and nudges his chest to flip him over so she’s on top, her chest pressed against his as she kisses him and her fingers dart upward to run through his hair.
“I love you so much,” Jake mumbles against her lips as she kisses him with increasing intensity, just barely grinding against him - but still enough to make him hard, they’ve still got a lot of lost time to make up for.
Her hands skim his waistband and he smiles at her in anticipation, reaching for the hem of her shirt only to be brushed off as Amy hastily rolls off of him and leaps out of the bed, dragging the comforter along with her.
“Ha, gotcha!” she exclaims triumphantly, clearly drinking in his confused and disappointed expression as he recovers from his state of arousal and pouts at her. “Sorry, babe, I had to get you up somehow.”
“I can think of some less cruel ways, but it’s fine,” he sighs, reluctantly climbing out of the bed and getting to his feet, walking over to the closet to grab a hoodie. For a brief moment, definitely unnoticed by his watching girlfriend, his eyes flit to his sock drawer at the bottom of their dresser, the one she’s least likely to open and even less likely to rummage through long enough to find what’s buried in the back right corner. “I’ll get my revenge, just you wait.”
“How can you be so sure?” she asks with a hand on her hip, still watching him amusedly as he pulls a sweater on and turns back to face her.
He smirks to himself, picturing the look on her face as she reads the inscription on the belt that is currently being engraved at a shop in Bushwick. Later, as they eat breakfast in front of the episodes of Jeopardy she left on the DVR for his return, he’ll also take the time to picture her in a white dress at the end of a long aisle surrounded with their family and friends. He’ll call her dad and leave a voicemail, he’ll review his heist plans, he’ll even take the liberty of clearing their calendars for November first (he has a feeling he’ll be able to keep her in bed that day).
For now, though, he just smiles.
“I’ve got a pretty good feeling.”

Avengers: A Bleeding Rose // #1
//Originally I planned to make this story into a comic but unfortunately school just started and I will not be able to focus on drawing it. So I decided why not post it here! I hope you enjoy :) ❤️//
Warnings: some cussing, (there will be much more warnings in future chapters)
Tumblr media
“Why must you always play games? Now look at you. You are who you said you would never be… Was it worth it?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
“Samantha! Slow down!”
Loud panting coming from the man’s lips as he rest his hand on the detective’s shoulder. A satisfied click of the tongue was all he received, as she gave him a knowing glance. The sides of her mouth curling upward as the soft curls of her short black hair fall over her right eye.
“I mean, we’re already here so we might as well.” She cooed, playing with the ends of the strings of her navy blue American eagle hoodie. Repeatedly tapping on the plastic at the end of it, waiting for her partners response.
“Rose, I’m not skipping an hour of work just to stand here and read a bunch of biographies for the twentieth time” He huffed, slightly tugging on the hood of her jacket. She pouted, glaring at him.
“Fine, you can go Sean.” She sighed as she began to walk towards the entrance. Breaking the grip he had on her in the process.
“Hey! Rose! What the hell do you-”
He was cut off from a silent ‘shh’ coming from Samantha’s lips. Her middle finger pressed against them as a smirk grew across her lips.
“Run along, Pawjer. I’ll meet you there” She replayed with a smug smile.
Sean rolled his eyes, biting the inside of his lip as he watched her continue walking to the entrance of the build.
“You get there any later than an hour and I’m throwing away your secret stash” He sighed, starting to walk away with a small smile.
“Go ahead! Let’s see how far you can carry me!” She chuckled, glancing over at him as she saw him walk around the corner. She sighs softly as she turns her attention back to the museum.
The museum was like her quiet place. It was a good place for her to think and gather herself mentally before she went to work or to start day in general.
As usual she quickly made her way to where the World War II information was. Her eyes lit up just from the thought of it. The corners of her mouth curling upward as if she was watching her childhood replay when she first visited this museum.
She always found history inspiring. Her love for it only grew by the day, ever since she was little. Her main inspiration being from Steve Rogers also known as Captain America. Just like every kid in her generation, when she was little she looked up to him and wanted to be a hero just like he was. That’s why she became a detective for the NYPD. Always trying to do her job to the best of her ability, that’s until the battle of New York. After that her perspective on a few things changed. Her job after that day was to help anyone from the destruction and the amount of casualties just made her sick to her stomach. Samantha is a stubborn brat that only listens to what she wants to even if she knows she’s wrong. So the fact that the 'Avengers’ saved the world was something she didn’t want to consider. But could you really blame her though? The fact that she had to tell many children across the city that their Mom and or dad wasnt coming back home, broke her heart.
She wanted absolutely nothing to do with the Avengers.
As time went on, her mind got lost in the many different biographies and information she was being presented. Her imagination only being cut off by her phone vibrating in her pocket. She could feel a groan develop in her throat as she took the phone out her pocket.
Sean Pawjer: Alright sunshine it’s time for you to come to work. Boss seems to be a little annoyed with your absences lol. But before you come can you buy me a souvenir? I’ve been keeping my eye out on one of those USAAF hats they have there.
She just rolls her eyes. A smirk forming across her lips, putting her phone back in her pocket.
As she made her way down to the gift shop her eyes scan the room, looking at all the creative jackets, bookbags, handbags, and any other accessories they held inside it.
Once her eye catches the hat Pawjer was talking about, she picked one up and placed it on top of her head.
Spotting a mirror from the corner of her eye she started to fix the hat properly on her head. Her smile only growing bigger the longer she looked at herself, thinking she looked cute.
“The hat looks nice on you, detective”
Her body froze. In the mirror she saw a slightly taller redhead with gorgeous blue eyes standing behind her.
Is that the agent from shield?
She asked herself, her mind jumping to different conclusions on why she was here. Taking a deep breath and clears her throat as she turned around to face the woman. An awkward smile plastered on her face.
“I beg your pardon?” She replied, the sass in her tone being much more than what she would have hoped.
Her eyebrow cocked upwards, the corner of her lips curled as she seem to be amused by the sass in her tone.
“Good evening Detective Rose. My name is Natasha Romanoff, an agent from S.H.I.E.L.D. I’ve been ordered to come find you and bring you back to H.Q..” she stated, slowly stepping closer to the smaller female.
Her chest heaves, trying her best to keep her place and not to seem so intimidated by the agent.
“May I ask why?” Her voice sounding a little more stern.
“S.H.I.E.L.D. monitors potential threats an-” Natasha was cut off by a chuckle that left Samantha’s lips. Her nervous gaze now replace by a smug smile.
“and when did I become a threat exactly? If I recall correctly I haven’t done anything wrong, Miss Romanoff” A sly tone in her voice.
The smirk on Natasha’s lips grew bigger. Her hands slipping into the front pocket of her jeans as, she closed the space in between them. “How about 2 years ago, S.H.E.I.L.D.’s base. Where you stole a piece of the tesseract.” She whispers.
Samantha kept quiet, her body tensing as the other female stood over her. A small scared whimper built in her throat. The worst part being that she was right. She did steal a peice of the Tesseract, but why are they coming for her now?
“You do realize you’re in so much more trouble than you think.” She let the words roll off her tongue, the smirk on her face only growing bigger as she looked down at Samantha. “You’re lucky were willing to offer you a job instead of throwing you in prison as planned. Now it’s your choice, you either come with me or your under arrest.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Samantha sat down in the passenger seat of the agents car, pouting her lips as she kept her glare on the red head. She walked around the car with the same shit eating grin on her face, it only getting bigger when she noticed Samantha’s stare.
She opened the door and sat down in the driver’s seat. Her fingertips tapping the steering wheel as she started the engine of the car.
“You put this on yourself, Detective. Might as well just run with it.” Natasha place her hand on the rim of the cap Samantha still had on her head and fixed it properly. A small Huff was the only response Natasha received.
Time flew by as the two sat quietly in the car, the wind blowing through both of their hair as yet another light turns green.
“ So…Do you care to explain to me, Why you thought it was a good idea to steal a piece of one of the most dangerous weapons on the planet? According to the NYPD you don’t even like any cases that has to involve The Avengers.”
Samantha’s eyes flutter in surprise from the sudden question, her heart nearly skipping a beat when she mentioned the NYPD.
“You confronted the station?” She asked rather annoyed. Sighing in defeat before Nat can say anything, she clears her throat.
“There’s been a rumor going around about the stone and I never really believed it but ever since New York… I was intrigued. I wanted to see what the big fuss was about it. I mean it opened a portal to space for God’s sake!” Her eyes sparkled like a little kid on Christmas morning.
“I wanted to take some research on it. Honestly seeing what happened with the stone already I’m surprised I didn’t get in any more trouble.” Her smile automatically flipping when she felt Natasha’s glare on her.
Natasha clicked her tongue in annoyance.
“Mhm, we’ll see. Did you get anything from your 'research’?” She asks, amplifying the sass in her voice.
Samantha scoffed at that, her tongue rolling around in her cheek as she turned her attention to out the window.
“not exactly, the last thing I remember about my research was that the stone emits gamma radiation. The amount of radiation in that stone could really do some damage to a Human…. Which is funny cause, the little bit of radiation that was in that tiny piece is now in me.” A nervous laughter escaping her lips, realizing that she’s in much more trouble than she would have hoped.
A sharp inhale came from Nat as the car came to a holt. Samantha hisses at the friction the seatbelt made with her skin on her neck. A small bruise left on her dark skin. After few seconds of silence, the two girls shared glances. Samantha’s was cold and filled with annoyance. Her nails digging into the leather material of the seat as she pulled herself up properly. Natasha on the other hand staring at her with wide eyes.
“What?” Samantha panted.
Natasha still didn’t answer. Her eyes were filled with concern and worry which only made Samantha feel more tense. Her annoyed expression started to soften as she could really tell that the agent didn’t know what was going on, but what she did know is that whatever happened 2 years ago was NOT good. “We need to get to the tower”
Samantha nods slowly, her mouth becoming dry. She became scared, her heart beating rapidly as she slowly turns her attention away from the agent. “O-okay…” She mumbles as Natasha drives off in a hurry.
Taking deep breaths, Samantha sat there impatiently, her fingers tapping against her thigh. Her eyes following trees and people. Anything to help her forget the look on Nat’s face. It gave her such an uncomfortable felling I’m her stomach. She was scared. No. Terrified, but all she could do was.. wait.

Strip us of our crowns
Story No. 16 of my Season 7 Countdown Project. Thank you to @exploding-snapple for the prompt!
Summary: “Look, prison is awful. I hate it here. I'm lonely, I'm scared. I just want to be back home.”
We know how prison treated Jake, but what about Rosa? Takes place during The Big House (1&2). (Read on AO3.)
Rosa starts a riot her first day.
They’ve put her in gen-pop even though everyone hates cops, and thank God she hasn’t personally put away anyone here. She’s not the only cop at Edwards, but she’s the newest, and the rest of them are in for stuff like violent assaults and murders and police brutality that make bank robbery look like child’s play. The only way she can stay safe is to earn their respect, and the only way to do that is to lose her shit a little.
So at lunch, Rosa smashes her tray, turkey sandwich and all, into the face of one of the dirty cops, then throat punches her and puts her in a chokehold. Four guards have to drag her off, kicking and screaming.
Five hours after getting to prison, Rosa is in solitary.
+++
Rosa studied meditation for a while in college. She never reached the deep inner silence and spiritual awakening of transcendental meditation, but she found it pretty damn useful for clearing her head anyway.
Her cell in solitary is so small that she can touch both walls at the same time if she stretches her arms. There’s a dented shelf at the far end with a single bar of soap stuck to it, and beneath it a stained sink and beside that a toilet. The bed is a cot, the mattress thinner than her yoga pad. Rosa gives herself about an hour to freak out in there, to tear the mattress and the threadbare blanket off the bedframe and beat them against the dingy walls, to alternate between screaming and cackling, a sound that makes her scared of and for herself.
She exhausts herself, and then she just stands there in the center of the cell, breathing hard, sweat cooling on her face and neck. She swipes her hair up into a messy bun, pulls it into a knot, and then sits in lotus pose in the middle of the floor and takes a deep breath through her nose. The space smells old and stale, of blood and sweat and piss and, horribly, mashed potatoes.
Rosa closes her eyes and breathes.
+++
She spends more time in solitary than not over the first couple of weeks. Usually it’s in 48-hour stints – two days in, one day out. But by the time Holt and Terry visit she’s been out for a few days straight. The other inmates still hate her, they still stare when she walks by, she can feel their dark gazes burning into the back of her neck and between her shoulder blades. But they keep their distance.
Lonely is alive, at least.
Her cellmate is in for aggravated assault. She says she beat up her own pimp, that the guy had it coming, and Rosa believes her but also figures there’s more to the story. She talks in her sleep, in Spanish, calling for a girl named Esme. Rosa curls up on her side, knees pulled up toward her belly, back to the wall.
The stress of this place is like a poison. She can taste it, can feel it in her blood, thinks about it settling into the marrow of her bones and becoming part of her. She thinks about Jake and how when she sees him again, they’ll both be so different. She knows that he’s harder than he looks. Stronger. But he’s being poisoned too, after all. Even if they get out tomorrow, or the day after or next week – already something’s changed. She’s already lost something but she doesn’t know what.
+++
Rosa love-hates that Terry and Holt visit. She can’t help it: She’s so ashamed, sitting on the other side of the greasy glass barrier, in her faded gray uniform and her lace-less shoes and her recycled underwear. But everything about them exudes comfort and safety and she’s so fucking glad they came. Even Hitchcock is a welcome presence.
They insist on doing her favors. And she gets it and she’s even grateful, but it’s annoying. She hates coddling under any circumstances, hates the pity and hates giving up even an ounce of independence. In here, she already feels so vulnerable, everything in her life out of her own control.
Still, she comes up with a list of chores for them. It keeps her occupied an entire afternoon, which isn’t so bad.
She sits in the reading room with a pad of yellow legal-sized paper and a pencil and bullet points her requests, each more absurd than the previous. She likes the feel of the pencil scratching across the paper, likes watching the letters form in her own familiar print. For the first time she understands, a little, why Amy likes nice pens and pretty stationery – she would kill (not literally – but maybe she’d stab) for a rollerball pen in blue ink, for crisp white paper.
Writing letters to Adrian is hard, at first. She’s never been to Argentina, never even seen pictures of his ranch, has trouble imagining him in this space she doesn’t know. She never even found out for sure what he did with the scorpions.
She starts by telling him that prison sucks and she misses him. It’s blunt and too personal and she hates it, hates herself, so then she tells him how she wants to gnaw on the tendons in his neck and lick his teeth and the roof of his mouth. From there things get deliciously nasty and she writes until her hand is cramping and she has to stop after every half-page to shake it out.
Around halfway through the legal pad she goes horribly, shamefully confessional again and she can’t help it, doesn’t even try to fight it. She tells him she misses him she needs him she can’t do this she can’t she can’t-
+++
“Diaz,” Holt says. He’s with Amy this time. It’s the first time Amy’s visited, and her face is so kind and pretty and familiar that an ache settles in Rosa’s stomach.
“You have a plan.” Rosa can read it all over them. Amy is practically vibrating, and Holt’s eyebrows are slightly raised.
Rosa hates the plan. And she respects the plan. And even though she’d told Amy that imagining herself strangling the life out of Hawkins wouldn’t be good enough, Rosa does it anyway, all that afternoon and that night after making her request for a visit.
Anger, at least, feels a lot better than fear or despair or shame or a thousand other dumb emotions. Anger is familiar. Anger makes her feel a little like her old self.
She picks a fight with one of the dirty cops after Hawkins leaves. The ex-cop is in for a string of beatings and bribes and threatening witnesses. Rosa bumps her shoulder and the woman tells her to go to hell and Rosa takes her out at the knees and punches her in the kidney and presses her face into the cracked pavement. It feels great, even when the guards lift her up and carry-drag her away.
When she leaves solitary two days later, she doesn’t even stop at her cell to gather her things. She’s going back to her old life. She’s going home. She already has everything she needs.
End Notes:
Title is from Focus on the Game (Bash Brothers).
This was a tough one to write – not so much in that it was hard to find the words, it just felt very dark (I mean, obviously).I hadn’t really thought much about how Rosa handled prison, and now I think it was probably both easier and harder for her than for Jake. Easier in that I’m guessing there was somewhat less threat of immediate violence/death. Plus, I think Rosa’s just generally got her emotional shit together better than Jake. But harder in that I think she’d feel more anger/shame/frustration? Also, I think Jake was helped a lot by knowing he had Amy waiting for him on the other side. Rosa was with Pimento at the time, but that relationship wouldn’t have provided nearly the same level of comfort and support. Man. Poor Rosa.

AVENGERS: CIVIL WAR
THE MIGHTY PRE ENDGAME REWATCH
it took us two entire days to watch this, back in whenever we were watching this. I’ve got a Bundle of Papers here in front of me, and the CW Bundle is by far the thickest, and that’s with minimal salt content.
Speaking of Salt: The Roommate and I had to approach this as an Avengers movie. Because otherwise the salt levels in this would be toxic, possibly fatal. Even so, ppl with high cholesterol be warned
LET’S DO THIS
1991!
Winter Soldier:
what is this
what is this please
dat beef tho
what is this op sec
honestly
NO mask
SHINY FUCKOFF ARM just HANGING OUT
CCTV???
~ooooooo he’s a ghooooooooooooost~
he’s got an extremely dedicated and very harried cleanup crew is what he’s got
OH! OLD LOGO ILU!!!
LAGOS!!
The Roommate: That’s a lot of sugar
i ain’t judging
what, you think her powers run on optimism?
is there an accent? is there not? Shroedinger’s accent.
droney the drone
sam’s lil sky roomba
i love him
guhhhh this scene every line shows character and growth and i just *clenches fist*
did
did falcon just throw steve
just yeeted him at the enemy?
god i love that
also: has steve bulked up since TWS?
that’s also on Sam, yeah?
CUT THE CHEEEEECCCCK
is this fucking NEUROTOXIN? STEVE WHERE’S UR MASK?
Steve, throwing himself into a room full of an unknown poison gas without a mask: I bet i can survive this
Bucky, in Bucharest: *breaks whatever he’s holding without knowing why*
god i love sam
“I don’t work like that no more” Means ?????????????
PARKOUR NAT
is also BRUNCH MOM NAT
“both grunting” is always one of my favorite subtitles
2 white boys fighting in the middle of the street like it’s a video game
god someone took the murder strut to heart wow that is some. that is some something that’s for sure.
give me even one (1) heterosexual explanation for "your pal your buddy your bucky"
there’s no way that bucky ever said this, right? this is just Rumlow fucking with steve, and the screenwriters fucking with us
because IN CASE YOU WERE NOT IN THIS FANDOM IN 2016, WE ALL THOUGHT CAP WOULD DIE IN THIS MOVIE
WE WERE SO SURE
wow i wonder if that will be relevant to anyone’s emotions here in the year of our lordt 2019
anyway, what bucky actually said was:
“please tell rogers... that he’s a big dumb dildo and he should wear a gas mask and also a parachute.”
listen i love this opening scene but also wanda is not at all responsible for this explosion and the fact that they act like she is undermines my ability to suspend my disbelief.
DIGITAL ENYOUTHENMENT ALERT
also, tony the fact that you are using your literal dead mom as an actual therapist is
wow
BARF feels right to me
too real, tony
it’s too real
how ARE you getting around the strings and taxes tho
Also can i say that i actually love that Pepper’s absence is this profoundly important to the story. The hole where pepper should be is a huge part of this story and i like that. i like that a lot.
WOW THAT EXTRA IS LIKE A MASHUP OF NAT AND WANDA. SHE IS THE GENERIC MARVEL WHITE LADY
more a+ visual storytelling with the elevator
I’m just so mad that they blame wanda and play that straight?
all they had to do was outright acknowledge one (1) time that the media is picking on her because she’s a woman/a foreigner
imagine that speech coming from nat instead of steve
though i do love Steve’s pep talk
again. give me one (1) heterosexual explanation
though why not have Steve say “they’re just bullies, you did the right thing” and hearken back to smolsteeb
The Roommate: Remember how i was mad at his Oscars Velvet Blazer? I am also mad at this sweater.... it looks... so soft... i don’t know if i want it on him or off him... just wanna tuch....... and wear..........?”
Vision’s Ascot is. Something else man.
The Roommate: Why is ross secretary of state?
Me: Why is Trump President
Me: I bet Ross is vegan
the roommate, who has vegan-related trauma: UUUUGGGHHHHHHHH
Nat's reaction to vigilantes: Bitch please. she is Unbothered.
you don’t have to show us footage we’ve got the ptsd nightmares
400 pages in 3 days
[tired american sighing]
we honestly can’t even criticize this plot point anymore just
[my longest and most american sigh]
CLEVELAND!!!
hail hydra continues to be the Most Terrible last words
but WHY does ross have the congressional medal of honor
do you know how HARD it is to get one of those????
yeesh
sassy black friends sassing at each other
is definitely a
thing that is happening rn
Vision: Well Actually
no one cares, vis
ok like
a kid is dead but
3.6 is an okay GPA
maybe all my friends are overachievers
maybe it’s just because most of them are women but like
it’s an okay GPA
i’d have 8000% more respect for Tony if he was more upfront like “look this is on me” especially here
are we supposed to be picking all this up as subtext, actually?
because i know that this movie ALSO had a Troubled Youth ala ant man
and i really do appreciate the Russos for relying on a smart audience but there’s a lot going on
and it’s very obvious to me that they had to shift gears 18,000 times in the script writing phase
so like, you’ve got old man vet steve
but it’s painfully obvious that he missed vietnam right?
like
it’s painfully obvious
and he’s v egotistical and self righteous too
it IS a battle of the egos
and no one is right
except natasha
Steve: i have to go
me: mood
LONDON!!!!
oh god
oh god no
steve god no steve oh god
gfhskfdjjjksjdjjhrrrrhrhhrhfhh [wailing and rending of garments]
Re Peggy’s age:
SURPRISE IT’S ACTUALLY PLAUSIBLE
so the True Hallmark of a Cap Movie is Peggy telling steve what to do.
so weird to have that in an avengers movie
i do love this. GOOD BRO NAT CONTENT
Um. is vision a minor? is wanda?
again, nat is the only Correct one here
stay together guys
it might be
reeeeeeaaaaally important in
*checks watch*
two years’ time.
~hug~
VIENNA!!!!!
CHAD WICK! CHAD! WICK! CHAD! WICK!
god i love the xhosa in this
There is a level of worldbuilding in this that we p much only get from the russos/markus&mcfeely. i mean -- internal consistency worldbuilding? if that makes sense? we get a lot of visual worldbuilding in black panther, but this is distinctly different and hard to articulate and it has to do with the way they approach things and how they assume audience intelligence
it just works for me
oh no chadwick boseman don’t be cry
Sharon deserves better
than being cockblocked by her own aunt
and also sam wilson (who also deserves better)
cryptid!bucky
Nat did you get that suit from jenny agutter?
LA Brunch Mom Nat
mah girl
she’s just so tired
steve (bless him) is just so exhausting
couples date sam and steve dressed to match
“at the gym”??? really? the arm is... a bit of a giveaway
i do feel bad for zemo in this one specific case
russian IS hard
how. did he get that in there?
Soft Plumboy Bucky
BEEF
Captain’s Log: Buck’s place is a shithole
Sergeant’s Log: Steve’s face is pretty
surprise bitch
“That’s Smart, Good Strategy” is an excellent phrase to use in everyday conversation in order to weed out who Knows and who Doesn’t.
What i have learned from civil war:
Captain America is a projectile weapon
further query:
did bucky ever hurl small steve at assailants?
Bucky: *punts steve down an alley*
Steve, 90 lbs of rage at 90 mph: GET WRECKED
Bucky’s got big tommy wiseau cryptid energy here
And now there’s a cat
bucky:
Tumblr media
I love this vampire running and also bucky’s thighs
Steve Rogers: Excuse me sir I need to commandeer this vehicle. YEET.
Bucky Barnes: Excuse me sir I need to commandeer this vehicle. YOINK.
Bucky and Steve: Wrecking your morning commute since 2014
WAR MACHINE!!!
god vis has the biggest dorkiest crush
so vis are you a child prodigy? or? what?
The Roommate, a cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure: vis have you eaten anything between CW and IW?
Me, sinnamon roll, not to be trusted: *dying* *thinking about how Vision’s got schroedinger’s dick. does it exist? does it not exist? who knows.*
Me: Y. Yes. I th. think he has. eaten something. between now and. and IW. something.
The Roommate: *betrayed look*
Me: DEEP FRIED KEBAB MAYBE? I DON’T KNOW.
The Roommate: *is so disappointed*
BERLIN!!!!!!
Bucky is. So tired. Let him rest.
fucking up the morning commute again i see
u like cats??
I love the ratio of overkill:ineffectiveness with this glass box they put him in.
why did tony  bring these fancy pens
the time spent explaining them could’ve been spent doing literally anything else
*i still don’t understand the accords*
GOD STEVE WANTS TO BE AN UNCLE SO BAD
“my fault”
there it is
“truth is i don’t want to stop”
THERE it is
“i thought the accords could split the difference”
THERE IT IS
"no, i don’t.”
THERE IT IS
“IT’S INTERNMENT.”
THERE! IT! IS!
gah.
wanda’s accent et al -- MAKE IT EXPLICIT MARVEL YOU COWARDS
no but really what are the accords
here followed a 20-30 minute convo about the accords
basically the summing up was:
Nat is 100% Right Ross is 100% Wrong Everyone Else is In A Grey Area
look this is actually a really good avengers movie
but
this is a moment when the back catalogue works against them because this conversation is so -- it implies a lot of friendly interactions between these two. they seem to have a relationship
but i keep looking at all the other movies they’ve interacted in like
BITCH WHERE? WHERE IS THE TONYSTEVE FRIENDSHIP? WHERE???
i am anticipating this will cause me A Grief later
The Roommate, looking at Steve in his Grey Shirt and Jacket: Damn, sir. Stop wearing clothes.
“BIRD COSTUME???”
“j a m e s”
big holt talking to rosa vibes there
“I don’t wanna talk about it.”
A VAST AND MIGHTY MOOD
Zemo’s plan is so ridiculous i genuinely don’t have time to get into it i still have two pages of notes to get through holy shit.
this fight scene. does things. for me.
hhhHNNNNHGH BEEFSTEAK
(oh tony left with no suit? growth dot gif)
THIGHS
T H I G H S ! ! ! !
CHADWICK!
Sam out here, serving looks, casually modeling
B I C E P S ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
TOO SEXY! *crashes helicopter*
I need twelve more scenes of steve and bucky faffing about in the water.
A more effective restraint than the custom made bucky bottle
(BRIEF 1991)
haaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAa biceps u stop that
Is Tony having a heart attack???
he has no concept of how to treat children because he never was one oh no i gave myself a sad feeling
QUEENS!!!!!!!
“I’m having a big fight in a parking lot with my superhero friends better go pick up a child as backup.” - tony stark
tony he doesn’t have a passport and if he understood what was happening he would not be on your side
Now That’s What I Call Vigilantism.
Why are you bringing a CHILD to a gun fight
Tony’s face, to me, suggests that he knows EXACTLY what he’s doing
also? it’s painfully obvious to me that these scenes were copypasted in late stage when they finally found out that yes they would have the rights to spiderman lol
for some reason they don’t feel the need to tell is that this is avengers compound in 400 point font
i’m so lost
where are we?
without the 400 point font i can only assume we are on mars
THAT’s a fine way to greet YOUR FATHER, WANDA
hawkeye is in fact the team lynchpin
is it
ugh
is it because they listen to him but he listens to natasha
ugh
i bet it is
UUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH
Vision: I have been FALLING! for THIRTY MINUTES!
“i know someone who does”
i’m confused by the cut here, because it seems to imply that Sharon, deliberately or inadvertently, rats them out to natasha?
Birds and raccoons do not get along
steve
steve no
steve
ur timing is shit steve
Scott Lang might be the best thing in this movie
well except for Dat Bone Structure
CUT THE CHEEEEEECK
*costume change in a parking lot to the yakkety sax soundtrack*
Thinking about the coming battle i am forced to concede that Iron Man Has A Point?
“do you really want to punch your way out of this?”
Steve: I ALWAYS wanna punch my way out
god scott’s such a fukkin nerd
tiny quibble but Scott “got punched by hope van dyne” lang would never say that to the black heckin widow
“gimmick”
um
people in falcon houses shouldn’t throw spider stones, samuel
wanda
those cars belong to people
oh god iron man has a point
LET’S GO LESBIANS! COME ON LESBIANS LET’S GO
*catfight sounds*
“then why did you run?”
dude you attacked me in a catsuit
Tony’s true superpower is that he knows steve, that’s how spiderbabby gets the upper hand
althought god
Tony was pre-gaslighting peter
he was pilotlighting peter
*my longest UGH yet*
“Queens?” “Brooklyn”
MAXIMUM NEW YORK ACHIEVED
ant man is the MVP
hmmmmmm “we don’t trade lives” HMMMMMMMMM
why did that truck explode
also *omg iron man has a point*
tony tedward stark how did you not know how old this child was
also peter stop pretending you don’t know what Empire Strikes Back, AT-ATs and Hoth are.
why doesn’t Vis get more flack for this
hey. hey tony. you know what sam is? A MEDIC. maybe let him LOOK AT YER FRIEND THERE instead of SHOOTING HIM IN THE FACE.
zemo’s plan is noooooonseeeeennnnnnsssse
guh these two beautiful men emoting in different directions KILL ME
this doctor is just like “yup there’s a giant purple robot here seems legit”
natasha is the only one who’s 100% right
did... did the russos kill themselves in this movie? did they cast themselves as dead extras? was this a statement of some kind?
HOW did ross get the congressional medal of honor. H O W.
“you read it”
NO ONE READ IT, IT’S 400 PAGES
tony this is Some Nonsense
ffflslkds he’s taking one of Nat’s guns KILL ME
one (1) heterosexual explanation.
rode back in a freezer truck
got pneumonia
already had pneumonia
and you blew three whole dollars on some slut
(seriously. gimme one. i’m waiting.)
srsly tho, whether you ship it or not, these two are old marrieds
the red star looks weird on his beefcake arm. did they forget to scale it up?
KITTY
listen zemo is just really turned on by cam and he didn’t mean to say that and that’s the most relateable thing he’s done so far.
It’s not just that bucky killed his mom. it’s that bucky killed his mom AND STEVE KEPT IT FROM HIM.
life alert a senior citizen has fallen
T'Challa, observing this White Nonsense™: I truly should... check myself. Before! I wreck myself.
agism is what it is
god this bit
steve dropping the shield
look at him
he is Stick A Fork In Him D O N E
Rhodey really deserves better than this? He deserves development showing the evolution of his opinion between here and IW
i wish we could get more of him grappling with this
that said
gosh wouldn’t it fucking suck if Cap and Bucky got relegated to End Credit scenes in their own got damn movie to make room for Iron Man to emote at his buddy his pal his rhodey?
*looks directly into the camera like i’m on the office.*
Anyway.
Steve rogers: getting the last word in every argument since 1918.
“from the bottom of my heart: My Bad.”
