Guys I never post about Sonic and maybe never will after this but I watched Sonic 3 yesterday and I need to talk about it

Guys. I never really was into Sonic as a kid, or even now. Like I like it but I've never been super into it

I remember watching Sonic 1 in theaters opening day, 2/14/2020, right before quarantine and thinking it was pretty good

And I do have to admit that I never watched Sonic 2 (I will be going back to watch it now) but in Sonic 3 in theaters yesterday I was so flabbergasted that my chest hurt

My friends and I couldn't see straight afterwards

We walked out of that theater changed people

(spoilers after break; trespass at your own caution)

Like genuinely, tears welled up in my eyes every single time Maria and Shadow were on screen together. They were children. Laughing. Playing. Joking.

Props to Maria's actor for genuinely making me cry.

Sonic movies are everything good about video games movies.

Were there some dumb jokes? Yes

"Konichi-whaaaa?" Stupid, yes. Funny, kinda.

Did I need a 45 second scene of Robotnik playing his stomach like a bongo? No, it could have gone without.

Did I need Agent Stone seductively holding Eggman's face to shave his head, only for Robotnik to rip off his shirt? Debatable.

But everything was worth it when Shadow realized that Maria was his star, long gone from the sky but shining light on him nonetheless

Everything was worth it when my friends and I got to gasp at every SnapCube reference slipped into the script

Everything was worth it when Metal Sonic and Amy fucking Rose showed up in the end credit scene.

Found a paper talking about asexuality today, on the topic of dehumanisation, from 2012.

I wasn't on tumblr for 2012, but I did join during the years after, when people were still scared, our language was still being taken. People were still being stigmatised for their explicit support of us.

I haven't read the paper yet, it probably is somewhat outdated, it's not speaking on aromatics at all from what I can tell but it's there. It's been references over 100 times. I found it from one of these references where asexuals were mentioned as its own group. Its not even about sexuality, its just a paper I have to read for uni but it's there.

It's there.

It's a reminder that we always were there.

Even when people barely believed us there was someone writing a whole paper on our experiences, and that paper was mentioned in a paper so significant that its one of three papers my course chose to assign for this paper.

Being visible is a wonderful thing
