FOR THE FIC ASK GAME: I actually wanna know more about See Inside My Bones hehe :) How different is it, describing pain instead of pleasure? Obviously it's still kinky and hot and all that good stuff, but what was it like as you approached the actual moment where the knife breaks the skin?

Honestly LOL to me as I was writing it I realized there was no difference.

Pain and pleasure are just opposite sides of the BDSM coin. Like, being carved up is something Lestat is consenting to—he wants it, he needs it! I'd never written something with bodily gore before, I mean... this is vampire fandom so biting obviously doesn't count. And it was a short 1.1k prompt response so it could definitely be expanded upon (and it will be if I ever finish vivisection fic 🤧).

But I found that all the things I'm very aware of incorporating into a conventional smut scene (the visual aspects, the emotional undercurrents, the physical mechanics, the sensorial aspects) were the same things I focused on here to make it as visceral to read as I could. The beats are the same: the anticipation, the foreplay (the teasing and the slap), the act itself. Vivisection fic will include more of the act (obviously) and then the "climax" moment + aftercare. So I really didn't have to rummage outside of my toolbox at all for this one! For example:

Lestat lets out a low moan that turns into a high-pitched sob as Armand suddenly jerks his fingers out of him, coated and dripping in glistening crimson. He dangles them over Lestat’s very face, and a droplet falls, teasing him with his own taste, but it’s not meant for Lestat at all.

Caitlyn as a symptom of Piltover’s violence

Was what Caitlyn did in season 2 act 1 terrible? yes. Does that make her a terrible person? debatable. Is she the best girl ever and above any criticism? also no what the fuck.

What happens to Caitlyn, essentially, is that she loses her mother and burns for justice and vengeance, and is willing to do all she can to reach her goal. Which is not an uncommon arc in Arcane, to be willing to burn it all for your family and getting overwhelmed by anger and loss.

The main difference is the scale and power dynamics. Because the chembarons have their shimmer, Vi has her gauntlets, Powder and Jinx have bombs, Silco and Vander have allies but they quite match each other when it comes to power until the very end.

So why is Caitlyn’s case so apart from the others? Here’s the thesis: Caitlyn is a symptom and the harm she causes is a consequence of Piltover’s domination over Zaun. I will argue for it thank you.

The main characteristic of Caitlyn, in the context of Piltover leading a targeted assault on Zaun, is that she is the one with power. Caitlyn is, first and foremost, a Kiramman. The show’s explicit about the power of the name, because with the name comes respectability, status, wealth. The Kiramman family is a powerful one, that’s why Ambessa chooses her above Salo. Both Cait and Salo have enough hatred for the Undercity to follow her lead if she plays her cards right, but Caitlyn, even if not officially appointed, has the power to exist in the Council’s room. Salo is nothing beyond the Council — and while it gives him power, his own family or personal entreprises are irrelevant enough that we do not know of them — while Caitlyn is powerful even without the Council — she does bypass every standard enforcers recruitment procedures to get Vi in, and thus we are told that she is one of the most important if not the main funder of the enforcers. In a state holding its peace through sheer violence and constant repression (especially after Jinx’s rocket), if one private actor owns your police force, you are at that actor’s mercy (which, yes, does turn on Cait when Ambessa’s soldiers take over).

Most importantly for us, the Kiramman hold one monopoly of power over Zaun. A vital need of Zaun they are the only ones to answer. Yes, we’re talking about the vent system. Caitlyn, in her anger and in her determination to do whatever it takes to get to Jinx, is willing to use every power she has. That includes her rifle and her aim, when she takes the shot at Jinx despite Isha and Vi standing in between, but also the vent system.

And as we’ve said, Caitlyn is going through a fairly usual character arc in Arcane of becoming a monster for love, for family, only to be brought back by love and family (Vander i’m looking at you) (and then that culminated into nothing to serve Viktor’s character arc tihi) (i mean it when i say Caitlyn has an amazing arc). It just so happens that Caitlyn owns Zaunites’ right to breathe. Is it immoral to weaponize it? Absolutely, and we can deplore the lack of political repercussions on the Kiramman in the show but that’s a more general criticism: the audience and the Zaunites are expected to just forgive Piltover to ally against Noxus. We can have sincere grievances about that (i do, and a lot of caitlyn hate comes from there from what i’ve seen) but it’s not a Caitlyn exclusive problem.

The thing is, Caitlyn’s weaponizing of the vent system isn’t the root of Piltover’s oppression or of enforcers’ violence. It’s a symptom of this violence. Cait can weaponize the vents because she owns them, because Zaun’s clean air is her possession. Because Zaun’s vital needs are dependent on Piltover. Cait doesn’t even realize just how much she’s hurting Zaun. She knows she’s gassing them but, and to her credit, it’s a fairly targeted assault (what Cait is doing isn’t terrorism!) but she is a reminder that whatever little fresh air they have, it’s still a mercy from Piltover. Piltover engineers a problem and a solution and holds that solution above Zaun’s head to silence their protest. This is domination, this is the root of that vent system being oppression still: the Kiramman hold Zaun’s air hostage and it took two mourning girls for that hand to cut off the air flow.

Caitlyn makes herself an enforcer of that violence in her grief, and that’s the symptom of a deeply ingrained disease. The root of that disease is always, always the inequalities between Piltover and Zaun.

The violence is the symptom of a system that is critically failing, repression means your governing body is illegitimate, weaponizing clean air is oppression to its finest.

To argue this point a bit further, we’re gonna circle back to Silco and Vander and how their power dynamic influences their behaviors and how their power struggle drives the entire undercity.

Vander and Silco both benefit from powerful allies. Vander has Grayson, Benzo and his position as bartender of the Last Drop makes him a valued member of the Undercity for Zaunites. Silco has Singed, Sevika and an entire network himself. They are two pillars of Zaun, creating a status quo that they work to maintain (at least their own position of domination) while furthering their own goals: Vander wants to raise his kids, Silco wants the independence of Zaun. Two vastly different sets of goals admittedly and that’s what leads them to reach out to vastly different individuals to help maintain it. Vander seeks out Grayson with whom he strikes a deal, while Silco allies with Singed for shimmer.

And when power suddenly shifts, when the right conditions appear, when the status quo is shaken, that’s when Silco asserts his power over Vander and his domination over the Undercity. Vander is put in a vulnerable position (his deal with Grayson isn’t enough anymore and he’s arrested) and Silco seizes the opportunity, deploys a power he has a monopoly over (shimmer). And after Silco wins against Vander, he can deploy his power over all of Zaun.

The status quo between Piltover and Zaun is constantly imbalanced. Piltover has already won at the beginning of the show and has been asserting, over and over again, through violence and in an abusive fashion, its domination on the Undercity. Caitlyn is like Silco in that comparison, she uses a power over which she has a monopoly (vent instead shimmer), in an unbalanced situation that puts her in the situation of the oppressor.

(And facing her, there is someone who is willing to turn that power against her. Just like Vander using Shimmer to protect his children, Sevika and Jinx using the vents for their own colorful clouds.)

Cait isn’t a poor innocent victim of circumstances but you have to acknowledge context and, in a show where parallels are so frequent, you can’t pretend she’s a completely unique character going through a completely unique arc completely unrelated to anyone else. If you hate her, hate a lot of other people too!

And, as is typical in Arcane, characters are monsters for love, and brought back by love.

And Caitlyn’s arc shows that! Past arc 1, she was lost. Vi had left, Jayce was missing, her mother was still dead even if after all she did, her father was a shadow of himself, the only one she had was Ambessa who was fueling her vendetta to further her own colonialist agenda. Suddenly she was alone, serving as a puppet on top of a pile of gold and too much power she couldn’t control. She can’t call back the gas once it’s out after all, she can’t call back the martial law Ambessa installed now that the resentment is growing in Zaun and that Ambessa is the one holding the reins of enforcers.

That’s why her switching sides was so immediate: when Vi calls her cupcake, she brings the girl forth, before the monster. She gives her love and Cait latches onto it, and uses it to pull herself away from that trap she walked right in. “Why does anyone commit acts others deem unspeakable? For love” & “Is there anything as undoing as a daughter?”: love is forever the way in and out of hate.

I am very disappointed that we never got a proper conclusion to the tensions between Zaun and Piltover. I wish we had witnessed negotiations between Ekko/Sevika/Jinx/a representative of Zaun and the Council, I wish they had gotten control of the vent system, promises of fair trade, independence, something. I wish Caitlyn had been made to apologize and deliver herself the keys to the vent system to Zaunites. I wish for a lot of things about the political resolution in season 2 and the show did not go how i wanted it to. Does deviating from what I wanted inherently make the show bad? No, although I do think it wasn’t the greatest this time around.

I however can not talk shit about the character arcs. Not all are as well crafted as Caitlyn but i will take no more Caitlyn slander on the basis of “she’s a fascist!”. 1- that’s not what fascism is, although she did walk a line close by; 2- she’s a symptom of oppression, and by reproducing she makes herself an agent of it. She weaponises Zaun’s air because she can because she’s in power because she’s the heiress to the Kiramman. Doesn’t make what she’s doing less harmful, but it has to be treated in context. Caitlyn is still a twenty something grieving girl with her entire world shaken up, she just so happens to also be the heiress to an extremely wealthy and powerful family in an oppressive system and every path that opens to her, in the midst of her hatred, brings her to reproduce that domination in the most efficient way she has access to: the vents and the enforcers.

And, yes, by reproducing domination she is also an engineer of it. It’s important to acknowledge that what she's done is bad to put it simply, but do not denature her character to fit a conception of her that is easy to hate. I will put part of the blame on internalized misogyny too, as it pushes us to have less leniency and tolerance for women’s mistakes. No because I haven’t seen half that much hate towards Silco who, reminder, made the Undercity kneel by giving them severe shimmer addiction (engineering an issue and making himself the sole owner of the solution while maintaining it as a form of domination, everyone see where i’m going with this?).

Again, do I wish we’d seen more of the political consequences on Caitlyn of that? Yep, absolutely. But I will not blindly hate on her while ignoring the global context of her actions and I invite you to do the same.

Tell me, do you hate Jinx for her so-called terrorist acts or do you see them as part of resistance against Piltover? You can not see the context when you like it only i’m afraid, and, in an unprecedented show of nuance for the internet, we can understand context and acknowledge moral complexity and still hate someone.

Hate Caitlyn if you want, but do it in a constructed way so we can argue together please! I need to talk about this show so badly, please hate the enforcers and the change in Cait’s character but do so in a well-argued fashion, i beg of you.

He followed you into your bedroom, a grin underneath his mask as he stared at the closet “i only wanna play” he said with a chuckle “tell me about that scary movie” he crouches infront of the closet door.

You peeked through the small crack to see the cheap mask and leather cloak, your pupils completely dilated unable to respond.

he played with the blade his leather gloves gliding over the knife, “your no fun like this” he said forcing the closet door open, weeks- that’s how long he prepared for this moment he forced your body to the ground straddling your hips. He used his left hand to pin your hands over your head which the knife in his right.

The two of you were at a cafe, Danny was a journalist who had heard about your experience with the new serial killer- who you found out was named ‘Ghostface’

It had been months since he'd last seen you and when he saw you, he couldn't contain his excitement.

He ran to you and wrapped his arms around you, lifting you to a height that you weren't comfortable with.

“Hey, please put me down!” You were already taller than Hyunjin— standing, but being lifted in the air? That brought on an onslaught of insecurities that you were trying to keep at bay.

Chan quickly set you down, “I'm sorry! I just missed you, are you okay? Did I hurt you?”

He was worried he overstepped a boundary. You looked around, seeing it was just the two of you. “No, I just don't want to be in the air when I'm already tall.”

You weren't sure how to voice your feelings, but Chan always knew how to piece the missing parts in.

“Love, your height is perfect. No need to feel bad about it.” He tried to cheer you up, not wanting you to be insecure.

Lee Know

“Woah! No!” You nervously shouted as your feet left the ground once Minho’s arms had strongly wrapped around your waist.

He was quick to stop trying to lift you in the air. He didn't mean anything by it, only wanting to have his arms around you in some way.

“Sorry.” He quickly apologized, his arms still around you, but loosening.

You took a deep breath to calm your nerves, “it's okay.”

Minho was quiet for a moment, trying to think of a way to make the situation less awkward. He removed his arms from your waist and suggested the first thing that came to his mind; a movie night.

You accepted, also seeking a way to ease the awkwardness of what just happened. “Sure.”

Minho even let you pick the movie, no arguments or judgement, he was just happy that you weren't upset by how he lifted you in the air moments ago.

Changbin

“Can I lift you?” Changbin asked. It was very out of the blue and unprovoked as you were both coexisting in each other’s company.

“Why?” You sounded more nervous than you intended to show. You were taller than him— by a lot.

You were even taller than Hyunjin. The last thing you wanted to do was be taller than you were now.

“Just for fun.” Changbin answered. Judging by his expression and tone, you didn't think he had any malicious intent.

You were still nervous, though. And it didn't make you feel any less nervous knowing it would be your boyfriend that would being lifting you.

But thankfully, no one was around. Because of that, you gave in. “Sure.”

“If you want me to stop or if you change your mind, tell me.” Changbin sweetly reminded you that it was okay to say no or change your mind.

You felt safer and more sure about letting him lift you, even just this once.

You were lifted in the air for about five seconds before you tapped out, which Changbin stood true to his word and put you down immediately.

Hyunjin

Hyunjin loved your height. You understood what it was like to be as tall— or taller than him.

“How tall would both of us be if I lifted you?” Hyunjin asked out of curiosity.

“Can you lift me?” You asked, challenging him almost. Deep down, you were nervous he would try to actually lift you.

Hyunjin thought for a moment as if contemplating whether he should try.

“Want to find out?” He asked, moving closer to you. The nerves inside of you bubbled up and you stopped him before he could attempt to put his arms around you.

“How about we just look up a height calculator?” You suggested. Hyunjin sensed your nervousness and left it as that, understanding why and not wanting to force you into letting him lift you.

“Alright. Yeah, if Google has one.” Hyunjin pulled out his phone, and searched one up for you both.

Han

You sprained your ankle after missing a step down a set of stairs when you were on a date with Jisung.

“Are you okay? Can you move it?” Jisung asked, panicking on your behalf. He acted as if he was the one with a sprained ankle.

“I can… Agh!” You were holding your ankle, wincing from the pain. Jisung looked down the road and checked his phone, looking something up.

“On my back! There's a hospital nearby!” Jisung bent down for you to piggy back off of him. You were hesitant, nervous that your height would be too much for him.

“No, I—”

“No time to argue! You're in pain! On my back!” He pat his back, leaving no room for arguments.

You reluctantly got on his back as he slowly and carefully lifted you.

“I can walk, you know.” You mumbled, but Jisung wasn't listening. He had one goal and one goal only; getting you to the hospital.

Felix

It was one of those times you and the guys were hanging out. You and Felix were inseparable, as per usual.

You were all playing a game together and so far, you were winning. Felix was proud to be your partner, knowing you were bound to get the win.

And you did, causing Felix to triumph over the win. You grinned happily at the others, who accepted their losses.

“I knew you could do it!” Felix gloated, wrapped his arms around you. As you felt your feet lift off of the ground, you quickly pulled yourself away from him and planted your feet back on the ground.

Felix’ expression turned into that of concern, wondering why you seemed uncomfortable.

“Are you okay, darling?” He asked. You noticed the others were watching and you felt even more nervous.

“I'm fine, just,” you lowered your voice, not wanting the others to hear, “please don't lift me.”

Seungmin

It was a few days after you broke your leg, confined to your bed or crutches until you could get the cast off.

Seungmin was there for you when you broke your leg, he was there for you in the hospital, and he was there for you everyday to check on you.

“Don't try to stand! If you need anything, I will get it for you.” Seungmin said sternly, rushing to your side and gently pushing you back onto your bed, careful not to hurt you.

“But—”

“Nope, what do you need? Water? Are you hungry? Bored?” Seungmin asked, prepared to get anything you asked for.

“Bathroom.” You sheepishly answered, knowing you shouldn't feel embarrassed but did anyway.

Seungmin nodded, “okay. I'll carry you.”

He put one are under your knees and the other securely around your back. You immediately got nervous and shook your head.

“No, no, stop! Don't,” you paused, seeing the confusion and concern on his face. “Please, don't lift me…”

Seungmin removed his arms and nodded, not wanting to make you uncomfortable in anyway.

“Okay.” He reached for your crutches and held them steady for you until you managed to stand up from the bed yourself, still towering over him even slightly hunched over.

“Let me spot you on the way there?”

“What if I picked you up?” Jeongin suggested, see as neither of you could reach the back of the highest shelf for the snacks that had gotten pushed back.

“What if you don't?” You gave him a quick grin before trying to reach them again, attempting to use your height to your advantage.

“Maybe I can help you reach them if—”

“Jeongin, no.” You cut him off, grunting as you still struggled. You even started to consider letting him lift you, even if it would only help your fingers graze the package.

“Fine.” You sighed, growing more nervous now that you've granted him permission to lift you.

“seriously?” Jeongin hesitated, waiting for a confirmation that you're allowing him.

You didn't speak for a second, thinking it over.

“… Seriously. Go ahead.” You muttered, sticking your arm to the top shelf. Jeongin came behind you and wrapped his arms around you, lifting you slightly— just enough for you to grasp the package of snacks you two were craving, and pulled them down with you as Jeongin let go of you.

alive shannon, since it's kinda a canon rewrite and I still haven't decided to which point it's gonna go, we'll see when it'll feel right to end it haha

once again, alive shannon haha - it's just so fun to explore what all those dynamics could've been, and giving Eddie and Shannon some closure, and I love exploring Shannon's character, too, speculating on her thoughts and motivations, and diving into everyone's heads, and I'm so excited to see it all develop!!

5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?

I think it's either alive shannon or the cheating fic alive shannon bc I've never written s2/s3 buddie and I wanna get their characters semi-right, and I don't remember a lot of details so I need to get on with my rewatch lol - and also writing Shannon's and Eddie's feelings on their relationship and how it all ended is not easy haha and the cheating fic bc it's so not my thing but a song inspired it and it got stuck in my head and it's happening haha and I hope I'll make it make sense haha

6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?

tbh all of them - some more, some less, but there are moments, especially lately, when veeeery often I'm just like: everything I write sucks wtf

7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?

@giddyupbuck agreed to beta the alive shannon fic, and I spam them with snippets if I'm in doubt and it's sooo helpful fr ily <3 and I'll need alive shannon beta-read bc it's gonna be so long, and I keep changing my mind about things bc of how many ideas I have, so I just need someone else to look at it and tell me if everything makes sense haha - and Ro's helped me so much with some previous fics so they have my full trust with my baby that is the alive shannon fic haha

8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?

all of them at some point lol - a few of these are actually on hold bc of that - I will get back to them tho!

as of now there's no ocs in any of these, but we'll see haha

15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why?

alive shannon - - like I said, it's my most precious baby, and I'm so excited to not only write it but read it, and I hope it's gonna be as good as it is in my head, and I hope I'll make the story make sense with Shannon there, but also keeping some important buddie moments from canon hah

16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?

not sure if i've ever dreamt about a wip, but i do get new ideas in my sleep sometimes lol

17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don't?

alive shannon will have switching povs which i rarely do, so it's gonna be a challenge to write three distinct voices - and diving into Shannon's head and feelings and motivations will also definitely be hard

18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?

I think sick eddie - he's so ridiculously stubborn and difficult istg haha or buddie coffee shop with how fucking awkward buck's being

19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?

yep, once again, alive shannon - it's as much a buddie fic as it is a shannon fic, so it's not exactly outside pov, bc I'm just excited to focus on her equally as much, on how she's settling into their lives, becoming a better mom, being involved in Chris' life - she's gonna have as much focus as buddie sns it's not easy, bc it's alternating povs and once I get stuck in Eddie's head it's hard to leave, but so far it's been fun

20. Tell us one thing we don't know about one or more of your WIPs

uhhh, I think I share like everything lol okay, so maybe: alive shannon will definitely go at least up until s4 and will include Eddie dating Ana 👀 purely bc I want a buddie-shipping Shannon to be like wtf eddie??? also, there will be more than one mcd in the death cast fic and coffee buddie was loosely inspired by a small thing from luke cage lol
