I headcanon that Crowe knows French and Italian, so you’ve got him rizzing you up in European romantic languages and then Geo lovingly dissing you in Japanese.

They’re opposite extremes on the spectrum. And you got the best of both worlds, so.

Anyway, when it comes to domestic life Geo is the cook, he just chills in the kitchen and prepares the most elaborate fancy food anyone’s ever made in the history of the universe (Geode powers activate!!!)

Geo also knows how to do makeup extremely well, while I’d say Crowe is more skilled in the hair department (they’re both magical when it comes to cosmetics).

Crowe would be the one to do shopping and get surprise gifts for you both.

Geo would only really buy fake plants for himself (real quick shout out to past me for coming up with the #bonsaibaby term for the eventual tree child Geo and I will have), so the home will be opulent and fancy (because of Crowe), while maintaining a somewhat minimalistic and naturistic appeal (because of Geo) and just being a generally comfortable residence (because of us >:})

You are kinda just told to not do anything except exist. They both feel obligated to ensure you’ve got the best life possible, and you bet your attractive ass you’re getting a banger life.

Oh also, just a quick heads up, if you and Crowe are having sex, make sure Geo is far away. You do not want this man to be projectile vomiting for the next two thousand minutes, it’d be very ungraceful for someone like him.

Speaking of sex, you and Crowe just kinda have it when you both feel like it.

Geode is a Scaramouche kinnie I refuse to hear backlash on this.

He also is the most knowledgeable when it comes to medicine, so if one of you three gets sick, he’s gonna be the doctor (he is his own doctor ffs this man is too based to be lying in bed and dying).

Crowe is essentially the emotional support for you three, like he and Geo are polar opposites but that’s okay. One's weakness is the other's strength and vice versa. Whatever they both lack (having and being a pussy), you make up for.

At this point you don’t even know if you’re the hinge or not, you just serve as the ‘hearth’ of this relationship.

And frankly, good for you. Like that’d be fucking awesome.

Buddie 617 meta

I’m gonna be honest here, this was one of the funniest 911 eps to me. I loved how this ep showed us both Buck and Eddie completely sucking at dating. It was very obvious in Buck’s case, what with each attempt to have quality time with Natalia being ruined by one of his past decisions, but then when he called out Eddie for also sucking at it, Buck wasn’t wrong. Eddie’s attempts seem half-hearted at best. First off, if he really wanted to date, then Tia Pepa’s help and dating apps are actually not that awful as options. Magic might happen there as well. The right person could even stand out more against a sea of not so great choices, turning the dreary experience into a colorful, magical one. But even when Eddie tries on his own, his attempts are LAME. Seriously, there are pastime activities that offer way more potential to start a conversation, and maybe a romance, than the ones Eddie chose. Not only that, these are not his actual hobbies, where he knows he’ll find someone who likes the same thing he does (the way he shares so much with one tall firefighter that we’re all thinking of right now. Eddie’s also being dumb about wanting it to “just happen” as if that’s not exactly what he got with buck. Also, just a friendly reminder that Buddie have been dating for almost 5 years, and they are GREAT at it when it’s with each other).

On top of that, we for real got a guy checking Eddie out (hi, hello, should I start a collection of him checking and being checked out by guys?) as well as him witnessing a woman he was looking at being embraced by another one. Why the hints at being surrounded by queer people? Your guess is as good as mine, but I’m here for it no matter what. ;D Now, I’ve talked before about the ongoing theme of Buddie’s dating life being intertwined in terms of when they start dating someone, or of why they break up, but now in addition to them dating at the same time, we also see them simultaneously sucking at it? Yeah, that takes the connectedness of their dating life up a notch. ~~

Which brings me to one line that grabbed my attention in this ep. THE line that offers the explicit resolution for the most important romantic plot here is the one from Gina, the insurance lady, to Chimney, about not regretting the attempt. Yes, even when the result is bad. That’s what Madney will embrace. One of the biggest obstacles to Buck and Eddie, besides their obliviousness, is the fear of ruining the good thing they have by attempting to take it to the next level. But here we have Chimney being reminded by Gina that it’s worth it, to try. Because the good thing you can have, if it works out? Is worth it. And you never have to live with the “what if” of it all. Now look at Buck and Eddie being once more adorable morons together on the job! Imagine the moment when they stop running around and let themselves try taking it to the next level, because they realize no matter what the result will be, they would never regret the attempt. ~~

Speaking of Buddie paralleling one of the canon couples on the show who were acting lovey dovey in this ep, the way Bobby described what made him and Athena happen reminded me of Buddie connecting. In both cases, there’s an intense and upsetting call, after which one of our first responders turns to find support (Buddie promising to have each other’s back) and comfort (Eddie wants to go grab something to eat together) in the other one. ~~

I did not miss Taylor Kelly, and true to form, she was back because she’s advancing her career by exploiting her personal connection to Buck and the exposure to the 118 it provided her. I’m pretty sure this basically buries any option of any showrunner ever trying to re-set these two as a romance, since it echoed and reinforced Buck’s decision to break up with her. It WAS funny to see her and Lucy cockblock Buck (I do think Lucy’s tone with which she spoke of their past also closes the door on anyone ever trying to set her and Buck up as a serious couple), but what I found to be funniest is that Buck tells Natalia he was trying to figure out the perfect place for their date, and then he took her to the bar where he kissed Lucy. A bar reminiscent of the one where he hooked up with Taylor. Possibly a spot where he hooked with other women during his Buck 1.0 stage based on how it’s THE hang out place for the 118 and we know Buck had no issues hooking up anywhere back then. Natalia, hon. This is not a good sign for your r/s with him. ~~

Speaking of which, there’s an ex who didn’t come back in this ep, but her spirit loomed large over Buck and Natalia IMO, and that is Ali. The reason why she and Buck broke up after 218 is because at the end of the day, she couldn’t accept the choices he had made in his professional life (hoping he would move on from firefighting). In the same way, Natalia revealed in this ep that she can’t accept Buck’s choices in his personal life. A small reminder the only partner we’ve ever witnessed truly seeing and accepting Buck, in every aspect of his life, has been Eddie. ~~

Another funny thing about this (911 is a comedy, y’all) is how Natalia flees the second she comes across Kameron. I mean, this is in addition to the hilarity of the death doula’s first name connecting her to birth and to all things natal, yet she flees the second that she sees a pregnant lady. Because if this is Natalia’s reaction when it comes to a bio kid that Buck explicitly said he is not going to raise, what would she do once she realizes he co-parents a fully grown kid? (and a very sassy one, too. LBR, Natalia doesn’t stand a chance in a show down with either Diaz boy) ~~

Much like Natalia doesn’t seem like the right fit for Buck based on this ep (or based on 616), neither does Marisol. Can I point out the fact that Eddie’s disapproval in the last ep of Buck dating Natalia applies here, too? They both met these women on calls. Second, Eddie wanted it to happen naturally, which is why it’s so lame he tried through all sorts of activities that he’s not ACTUALLY into and wouldn’t continue doing past the initial stage of meeting someone else. And that holds true for Marisol as well. We saw that her brother and her are very into DYI, which I guess was meant to lay the groundwork for Eddie running into her in a DYI shop. But the thing is, Eddie himself isn’t into this! Sure, he can do it, because as a single dad he’s had to, but it’s not something we’ve ever seen him being passionate about. He’s only at this store because of Christopher’s project. And then once more, just like he steps away from Pepa’s help, dating apps and chooses the wost places for a chance romantic connection, he walks away from Marisol even when the whole scene plays out as if she’s the climax of his search throughout this whole ep. This might all hint that despite initial appearances, just like the people he came across while golfing and hiking wouldn’t be the right fit, Marisol wouldn’t be either. Even more importantly, just like Ana at first appeared like she would be perfect for Eddie in 312, starting out in a “it just happened” sort of way and with supposedly being fated because she happened to guess correctly that Eddie stands for Edmundo, this thing with Marisol might look in the moment like it’s exactly what he was looking for, but it will fizzle out as well.

*Breaks door down* SO! the season 4 specials has suddenly been released a few hours ago, and as usual I’m here to ramble talk about it. Starting off with wukong, who is very much alive being as childish as ever /pos

Also absolutely love the face macaque makes here, has just arrived and already has regrets XD

It’s pretty interesting how macaque was the one to suggest tagging along with mk, (cause I had theorized that he would) and having him essentially give him a lesson about how things had went down with wukong makes a lot of sense, also macaque getting onto mk about how he barely knew anything about wukong’s past made me laugh, cause i can imagine after this is all over macaque would sit him down and lecture him about it. If tang hasn’t tried already.

My precious baby!! so hopelessly naïve about the world, him announcing, straight off flower fruit mountain, about how he can talk like a human now, and that he’s the monkey king had me simultaneously grinning and cringing at the same time, cause of course he would do that XD

THIS PART FRICKING SHATTERED ME- *aggressively points* IT’S DOUBLE BOUNDARY MOUNTAIN!! ITS DOUBLE BOUNDARY MOUNTAIN!!!

Interesting choice to have him chained underneath/against the mountain as opposed to being trapped underneath it. But taking creative liberties with it is fine too. I am suddenly reminded of the time I was obsessed with the angst potential that came with wukong being trapped underneath the mountain for five hundred years.

NOOOOOOOO WUKONG DON’T BE MAD AT MACAQUE HE’S JUST TRYING TO HELP!!! 😭

You know, I can sorta get why he was mad. It’s hard being angry when you know what happened was 100% your fault, and knowing that only makes you angrier. Cause the last thing you would want to do at that moment is look inwards and go “you know what? This is my fault, and I shouldn’t be biting people’s heads off for things that they had no control over.” Cause anger is sometimes illogical, and if there’s no anger all there would be left is nothing but hollowness and a deep sense of self hatred, like I’m sure this took place at least a few years during his imprisonment, so his emotions were still raw and his ego had just taken a massive beating, so I’m sure wukong had plenty of time to think things over after macaque left. But at this moment he just wanted to be angry.

Episode 7-8: so, one day after drinking that coffee + espresso abomination Dal thinks diving into a Borg transwarp conduit to save travel time is a good idea. And later starts admitting that he has a tendency to forget about everything else when there’s an important mission to focus on. Who does that remind me of?

So the death racing episode that disabled Zero is simultaneously a breather episode lmao

Of course the Kazon Maje wasn’t the big bad in this episode, that would ask for some unprecedented competence from them :’D love how so far they’ve been relegated to “child abductors for a despotic slaver” and now “doing kidnapping for a rogue ai that’s channeling world’s worst tutor”. Not even that really, this Maje pretty much is forced into an “NPC who makes you do a racing sidequest on pain of death” role.

Ohh I really love the personality swaps in the holograms! The voice acting is so good! Brett Gray’s version of Zero was so spot I had to go back a bit just to listen if it wasn’t actually Angus Imrie imitating Brett Gray’s voice @_@ Same for Angus Imrie’s Dal!! Rylee Alazraqui’s Jankom shouting at the Doc and Jason Mantzoukas’ Rok Takh being so sweet and innocent are so funny! Also, taking the Gwyn hologram out is such a convenient way to prevent Murf’s personality from talking

only just realising the Maj’el - Majel Barett name connection!!

Ovidia IV is so pretty and the designs of the corporeal non-corporeal aliens are so cool but it’s a trap it’s a trap it’s a trap, it’s giving me Star Trek TOS vibes of “Faustian bargain aliens” or “planet with a death ritual masquerading as a incredible party”.

After watching the whole episode, setting aside the scenes on Voyager-A, episode 8 really really felt so much like a TOS episode with a modern twist to me! It had the uncanny idyllic planet, the race of telepaths enthralled by their senses, the weird euphoric call to death, culty death festival, the inability to leave once you’ve made The Choice.. but then it has the emotional arc you see in NuTrek and also includes a beautiful, thrilling scene flying on top of the Nazamon (very Discovery). And obviously without the gruesome deaths and madness that would have accompanied a TOS episode. (Ok maybe TOS deaths aren’t that gruesome compared to Disco/Pic//SNw but when I was 9-10 and watching TOS repeats with my dad on Sunday afternoons against my will it was terrifying so that’s what in my brain now). And despite the weird vibes they weren’t actually bad people, just dangerously secretive.

Zero’s arc is also so interesting. Their desire to obtain corporeal body is such a contrast from S1 Zero, who waxed lyrical about life with other Medusans, how they miss it and how it’s like nothing the others can imagine. It figures that now they’re liberated from being a living torture device and have had time to spend so much time enjoying freedom with their corporeal friends, they are able to put into words something might be missing. The joy on their face and in their voice after the transfiguration was so sweet! Also I like these shots through Zero’s cracked visor

I think it’s also an interesting juxtaposition that the previous episode, which ended in Zero performing a self-sacrificial, disabling manoeuvre, started with the gang diving into a Borg transwarp conduit and Zero voicing discomfort (fear) at that. Zero did stop talking less about their Medusan physiology post-Borg encounter (also after injuring Gwyn?) iirc. There was that fear of hurting others just by being Medusan. But this episode talks about fear being an essential aspect of life (ok. corporeal life i guess). Also interesting that Prodigy is framing the corporeal/non-corporeal thing as a binary. I hope it's going to delve a little deeper into that and go a little more complex. I can't wait to see if Zero’s new body lasts and what its possible deterioration will mean for Zero and their feelings about living as a Medusan among humanoids.

Another thing that I like about this episode is that the gang only cares that Zero was properly informed about what choice they were making and that they were safe during the process. They are sure that Zero knows what’s best for Zero.

Poor Gwyn can't catch a break, even her hologram is traumatised now.

Can’t believe how strong this first half of the season is already. If season 1 is anything to go by it’s going to be a hell of a two parter for the midseason finale!!!!!

(I’m still in doubt about the Entity being a time-displaced Chakotay, because in the second message it called Janeway “Janeway” and not “Kathryn” or “Captain” or “Admiral”. Even if he was trying to hide his identity for timey wimey reasons I can’t imagine he’d call her just Janeway and not “vice admiral Kathryn Janeway” or some other more businesslike title.)

carla is mostly your first port-of-call for baby sitting! she had a real gift for kids and genuinely loves to look after them. she feels its her duty as a grandparent, honoured that she’s bestowed the chance to do so!

she was also one of your main helpers when the baby first came, giving you tips and health tricks to cope with post-partum depression and body changes so you trust her with your babe as much as yourself.

she also understands how sometimes you just want a break from looking after babies all day so she’s always willing to take the bundle off your hands.

Grisha

on the odd occasion carla’s unavailable, you ask grisha. whenever you ask him to look after his grandchild, he’s at first shocked because ‘why on earth would you ask him of all people?’ but then he’s also worried because he doesn’t think he’d do a good job. sometimes you remind him like, grisha — you do know you’re a father of two, right? and he’d be like ‘yeah, and look how they turned out’

really, he’s honoured at the fact that you’ve asked him because again, if hes the next best option from carla then that’s a compliment, but he does try and advise against it. he’s also usually very busy so these asks happen only on odd occasions.

Zeke

“zeke, me and eren have a function tonight but we have no one to look after—”

its funny because this man would take up absolutely any chance to babysit but simultaneously disturbing since you’re weary of what exactly he’s teaching your child. he’d honestly be more of a last resort typa situation but because he loves spending time with his niece/nephew, you at least know you have an option.

Ok here it goes-

Kaeya hopping onto a caravan to get to Sumeru as a kid is simultaneously the funniest and saddest thing ever.

Could you all imagine the chaos once the Ragnvindrs realized child Kaeya is missing? I could just imagine Diluc crying loudly about losing Kaeya while Crepus panics and half yells at his staff and the knights about looking for him.

And the moment Crepus sees Kaeya again, he pulls him by the ear!! Because how dare this child give him the heart attack of the century! The nerve of this child to give him gray hairs!! Absolutely comedic!

But the fact that Kaeya did it because he wants to learn more about his heritage hurts. He barely knows anything (and even if he does know a lot, he feels as if he is missing large amounts of context anyway). No wonder he hid that one piece of paper about information on their clan. He's clinging to what is left over for him.

I don't fully trust the idea that his father left him in Mondstat just to live a better life at all. As sweet as it may be, I actually think that's just Kaeya's hopeful thinking. That's why he "thinks he made a clean break with his past". His mind tells him that he probably has nothing that Khaenri'ah or the abyss order might want. A reasonable conclusion because they haven't contacted him- in fact, he was the one doing the interrogating.

That makes me nervous for him though...

Even if it is to free him from his history who tf leaves a child in one of the strongest storms (where he almost dies in), tells him that he will be a spy for Khaenri'ah, and gives him the pressure of being their "only hope"?! Damn dude, if you really want to give him a better life maybe don't give him a last minute multiple trauma gift.

Dain probably crumpled a bit of Kaeya's said hope by straight up mentioning that Kaeya is a descendant of the Abyss Order's founders (I knew the Alberich last name had a damn purpose! Being the birthright successor to the Abyss Order is a big deal and literally a power move! Names have power!!!)

(((Random thought but I wonder if Kaeya could start his own faction- an alternate Abyss Order where he leads as the birthright heir where they go against the Abyss twin near the end? It would be a major decision to lead the order after all, he would have to leave Mond for it, and I'm sure that Dain would prefer to side with him on this one if it is a faction made to counteract the Abyss twin's actions)))

His heritage being such a big deal that they had to mention it in an Archon quest is very iconic for his 4-star starter character ass. They had to make sure everyone knows about it and now Kaeya's lore is gonna get more speculations and scrutiny. Good. I'd still argue that he has one of the best lore in the game- easily in the top 5.

Final thoughts for now, but Dainkae having that enemies to friends to lovers energy is very funny to me. Kaeya asking Dain to go drinking with him someday is *chefs kiss*. Dain is right to be wary of Kaeya though. The fact that Kaeya felt him watching is definitely telling of how perceptive Kaeya is (reminds me of the cutscene where Diluc is introduced, and when Diluc attacked from behind him, Kaeya didn't even flinch). Dain probably realized that Kaeya also purposely avoided him in Mondstat as well since Kaeya knew of him ( I don't think Dain would avoid someone who is blatantly using "Alberich" as a lastname).

Oh wait! One more thing! But is Kaeya actually immortal? (where they stop aging once they reach a certain age) or is he only half-Khaenriahn? (if so, why wasnt he turned into a hilichurl? Do they get a free pass?...but so far, he is the only regularly aging Khaenri'ahn we've met...)

I knew that the more lore drop he gets the more questions will be added. damn.

My (spoiler-free) opinion on Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix

It was very good.

Seriously, I enjoyed it a lot! This “remix”, as the name suggests, is basically a big mashup of Ubisoft franchises, in a style that resembles Japanese animation (but by a French studio), and with a hint of arcade games. Some names, faces, or events may be familiar, but the story is set in 1992 in its own world with its own rules and people, so don’t expect anything or anyone to be exactly the same as what you’re used to.

For example, among the existing characters featured in Captain Laserhawk, we have Pagan Min, who still wears pink, has bleached hair and eyebrows, and is a villain, but isn’t a dictator, doesn’t seem to have the same backstory, and is more exuberant and carefree than he is in Far Cry 4 (he reminds me more of the young version of him we see in the Control DLC). Marcus Holloway, on the contrary, is older and more serious than his canonical Watch Dogs 2 self, but he’s still part of the series’ version of DedSec.

Visually speaking, it’s very rich, and the animation manages to be simultaneously “simple” (because of the low frame rate) and impressive. Sometimes, the show temporarily becomes a retro game, which I thought was really cool, not to mention a clever way to move the story forward. Not only are those “gameplay sequences” very well done and look like actual games, but various styles are also represented (platformers, shooters, even a dating simulator), so they really are a nice, original touch.

The soundtrack is reminiscent of the music we could hear in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and I don’t have much to say about it except that it was good and worked well!

As for the story, it was well-written and engaging; I watched the show in one sitting and never got bored. There’s at least one plot twist in each of the six episodes, and while the series is inspired by and references a lot of existing pieces of media, it still feels unique and manages not to fall into easy tropes and clichés. It’s funny, but it knows how to be sad. It’s colorful, but it can get really dark. It’s animated fiction, but it also tackles very real issues. Captain Laserhawk does it all, at it does it well. It’s made for an adult audience, so it contains violence, blood, drugs, vulgar language, nudity, and (implied) sex. That said, those mature elements, much like everything in the series, are well-dosed and don’t feel gratuitous, in my opinion. It’s appropriately inappropriate, I would say.

In general, I thought the actors were good and that the characters were compelling. My favorite is probably Bullfrog because he has some great scenes and I think he encompasses all aspects of the show: he’s here for comic relief but has solemn moments, he’s a cute cartoonish frog but also a skilled Assassin, etc. On a side note, as a French person, I really appreciate that his accent, although very strong, is real and not a caricatural imitation. Even when he lets out things like “ok, d’accord”, “et merde”, or even just “oui”, it sounds spontaneous and natural.

In conclusion, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is great. Both esthetically and narratively, it’s super creative, there’s always something happening, and you’re constantly surprised. This show is a lot but, strangely, it’s never too much. I think it’s obvious by now, but I recommend watching it (if you’re over 18... or just 16 in my country for some reason), even if you’ve never played a single Ubisoft game in your life and just want to see a good animated series. In the end, the thing I dislike most about it is that... there aren’t more episodes!

My Chapter 22 Commentary

“We aren’t going on a date!” “Yes, we are!” The beautiful boys that you are. I love the start to this chapter, their combined prettiness hit me like a truck ngl. It was also such an odd feeling seeing Kagiura’s hair still left in the same position as we last saw it months ago. Feelin like we’re on earth while Kagihira are on the Miller planet in Interstellar, time speeding by for us but inching ever so slowly for them. Anyway, they’re adorable here. And Kagiura is getting prettier by every chapter.

I love how much bolder Kagiura is now too; probably emboldened by Hirano’s initiative in choosing the location of the 10 seconds last chapter. And Hirano. Hirano, once again, saying no to something with Kagiura, then realizing he’s actually at least somewhat okay with it (if not more).

Chapter 22: Slowly but Surely. The Gap Between Givers and Takers Like everyone else, I’m soooo encouraged by the name of this chapter. Like. This is really happening huh. Things are really changing for Hirano in real-time, and he’s becoming very incrementally more aware of it. And the tagline is so ooogh… is it referring to the palpable difference felt when you are the giver of touch (by extension, affection, and by extension, love), is it referring to the gap slowly and ultimately diminishing to the point that there is no longer a difference felt whether one is the giver or taker and the effect felt is the same no matter what? Is it referring to the widening discrepancy between our boundless acquisition of our planet’s resources and what our poor earth is physically capable of supplying us with hence sending us further past the point of no-return for ecological sustainability? Only sensei has the true answers.

“We’re just going shopping! No one calls that a ‘date’!” “People go on shopping dates all the time!” Kagiura continuing to fight the good fight. He’s right, Hirano. I mean if even uniform dates exist, surely anything can be a date…

“How long?” “It’s a secret. But I’ll tell you… Once you fall in love with me.” Honestly, I don’t really know specifically, but I feel like the fact that sensei did a throwback to Hirano wondering how long Kagiura’d been in love with him, is more significant/relevant to the future storyline than we think right now…  

Other than, you know, Kagiura cranking up his rizz to MAXIMUM DRIVE Niibashi putting distance between him and Kagiura in front of Hirano is so funny. Even funnier is Kagiura’s adorable little “Niibashi’s mad at me because I’m missing a button :D” happy-go-lucky air here while he grins ear to ear. I also love the different ways both Niibashi and Hirano get angry around Kagiura hahah. Kagiura really is the perfect easygoing friend for that kind of personality. Still thinking about somebody pointing out the fact that Kagiura’s button was shown missing since the chapter cover for #20…

“Shall we skip practice today? I feel bad monopolizing you every day.” Please monopolize him until the end of time. Niibashi just quietly simmering in the background like my dinner. Hirano looking up at Kagiura in such a cute little way while holding the ends of his sweater, why the frick does this give me such domestic vibes.. Ha ha it reminds me of Kagiura holding Hirano’s ring folder when he was fixing it up in the nurs e ‘ s  o f  f  i     c     e         .            .                    .

I’m sorry I am now looking at the symbolism for paper cranes (the ones in the background on the table behind Niibashi calling Kagiura a slob, and well, it’s not much, it’s just stuff like honor, good luck/fortune (hmm), loyalty and longevity (hmmmmm)… Slowly but surely…

Sewing privileges transferred. Niibashi’s organs eroding from the inside-out from seeing (and probably simultaneously remembering everything Kagiura’s told him Hirano has done/said) every speck of affection dripping out from every crevice on Hirano’s gay little face and body.

“There’s nothing I can’t do if I put my mind to it.” Including realizing your growing romantic feelings for Kagiura, right? Man the way Hirano keeps poking/hurting himself in the process of trying to fix Kagiura’s button/make up for wrecking it himself… makes me emo how he doesn’t mind getting hurt if it’s all for Kagiura’s sake aghhhh byeeeee… Love all the fond smiles Kagiura gives when Hirano says something cool, gahhhh… they love each other so much… I cant handle them…. “Ugh, why do you have to be so stubborn even with something like this?!” “I’m just messing with you.” Aaaand there’s his first smile of the chapter, followed by the next one 6 pages later (and one of my favourite panels of Kagihira together ;___; laughing together and relishing purely just being with the other….

Can’t remember if someone said this already, but I don’t know if it’s significant here, them both being on one side of the window frame’s shadow (the ‘centre line’ (Romance: don’t cross the line)). I mean it’d make sense I guess, since what Kagiura initiated wasn’t super romantic relatively speaking, albeit still a very affectionate gesture. Either way though- no lines were crossed, for sure.

Bony shoulder… hard thigh from the lap pillow… the physical awareness of each others’ bodies…. the way Kagiura rubs his head on it like he’s a cat on a scratching post… I digress. Love how sensei does lighting in her manga. The shadow that separates part of Hirano from Kagiura on the page after Kagiura told him it makes his heart race. Oooh…

...It doesn’t make mine race, though. But… It’s still not bad at all. What if I died. No but for real, this hurtssss because Hirano’s thinking to himself how he doesn’t physiologically feel the same as Kagiura, but he still enjoys the contact. He still likes touching it. Even if I’m not in love with you the way you are with me, I still want to be with you Kagi-kun.

I also want to mention something. I’ve kind of picked up this little.. thing.. of counting the panels of their ten second touching as if each panel is a second. Now, I’m too lazy to look through right now but there was at least one time when it equated to about 10 panels, 10 seconds, right? Well here, I’m counting 14 panels of his head being on Hirano’s shoulder. I was talking with friends about this and we were so unanimous about the fact that this was *not* 10 seconds long. Okay, it could’ve been, but c’mon, between all their talking, do you reallyyyy think Kagiura was fully counting the whole time. Be for real

Oh… Was that 10 seconds already? Back to the lighting. MAN. So good. The shadow on both the boys as Kagiura removes the weight of his head from Hirano’s shoulder. I hope his shoulder felt lighter. I hope it felt wrong to feel so light. Just like when Kagiura removed his arms from around Hirano after the hug and Hirano shivered a little. I hope each and every continued loss of weight and warmth is an accumulated strip torn off of Hirano’s psyche, and I hope he reaches the point where he is just a building torn to shreds whose only hope for reconstruction is the handyman responsible for the teardown in the first place.

God I just noticed Kagiura’s made that smiling while looking down face before, in chp 17, and Hirano just watches him so closely… but that wasn’t after touching. However in chp15 it was after their first 10 sec touching, but he wasn’t smiling, he looked blushily anguished, and Hirano was observing him in the panel right before it, top left, just as he is here…

Oh Hirano…bold of you to think Kagiura’s only been teaching you basketball…

It’s so crazy how Miyano dispels all this manga-obtained BL wisdom and yet does not have the intuition to put 2 and 2 together from what is coming out of Hirano’s mouth. It’s okay, not everyone can be Tashiro/Hanzawa…

Also, I feel like everyone’s processed it long enough that it’s just normal now, but Hirano admitting his heart raced during the hug and it not being mentioned at all (not even in motherfreaking SFX) up until this point is insane. It’s insanity. What other finer details are being kept under wraps til much later? Anyway, so I guess Hirano’s parents aren’t the hugging type ;_;  

Love the Hiramiya banter. And Hirano’s chibi face in the, “Yeah, right???” panel. Aaaand cue Exhibit #2(?) of Hirano’s selective hearing in full display. So frustrating yet funny. Miyano literally giving out the secrets to the universe FOR FREE and Hirano’s out here like “man I really need the secrets of the universe, whatever shall I do”

I mean, personally, I don’t think we can know for sure yet if his heart was beating hard during the hug from surprise or from ~something else~, until they, like, schedule in a hug or something. Pencil it into their busy schedules in advance and know it’s coming and be fully prepared for it only for his heart to start racing again despite the precognition and become totally ruined inside and out, only then will I sleep soundly at night-

And then the infamous: When he’s around…it’s so much easier to focus. God I wish I could see him 顔が見てえ…Kao ga mitē…I want to see his face…. instant ruination. thrown asunder further into uncertainty. I’ve definitely had crushes where my infatuation developed while at a distance, pondering how much I think of them, and then leading to further physical reactions within their proximity. I feel… good things will come of this date. Though it’d be nice if Kagiura hugged Hirano during the date, to further nail down Miyano’s quote of how much they wanted to see the person, and then getting embraced after.

Ahhh… Hirano pissed off, then receiving Kagi’s text and instantly relaxing and smiling…and regaining the focus to study. Not to mention Hirano adding a date-like activity to their very non-date date. And calling it “not a date, but...”

the eighth sense ep9-10

ok so this is very chaotic and long so everyone, brace yourself lol

After that gut-wrenching ending of ep8 we’re back in the therapist's office’s deep, underwater world. I love that there’s hardly any sound (and absolutely no music) whenever we’re in that office, it’s so silent as if it’s underwater, all is still. The sentence that sets Jaewon into motion, however, is his therapist telling him he’s selfish. That line literally pushes Jaewon not only to turn and face his therapist but to stand up and ‘protect’ himself against the statement. The only thing that can shake Jaewon is Jihyun (or the mere mention of him). He wants to protect Jihyun, but his therapist says he’s selfish for deciding things alone, for not considering Jihyun’s feelings, that’s basically the same as others hurting Jihyun. It’s an accusation of See? What you’re doing is what you want to protect him from

There are these lines that make me pause for a moment, giving me the urge to grip something bc 😩 Like Jaewon reasoning how he approached Jihyun first, what he literally says is ‘bc I reached my hands out to him first’ and I’m a weak bitch whenever it comes to hands (the mere mention of hands and I’m on the floor~) let it be holding, grabbing, not letting go of or reaching out and all their connotations so I’m just 😭😭😭😭😭 And now I’m thinking about Jaewon’s inability to see that he reached out first but Jihyun has been reaching out over and over again and maybe that only reminded him of this very first act, the one that, sometimes, he probably wished never even happened but what eventually saved him? (also, *vague hand gestures* it's a mirroring action-reaction kinda thing and I’m just *clenches fist*)

Not gonna lie, Jihyun scared me for a moment, being so inside his head and pondering so hard while walking with Joonpyo (like Jaewon’s vacant state got passed onto him BUT that’s another parallel so am I complaining? ofc NOT) friggin parallels and mirror conversations 😬😬😬 I’m just a shell of a person filled to the brim with t8s parallels now (should I make a post about all the parallels in all the episodes?? should I spiral into absolutely insane territory???)

As a viewer, it’s interesting to see Jihyun worry and actually waver (on a surface level) because of what Eunji told him (that Jaewon won’t even mention nor talk about him, like Jaewon talks about ANYTHING with Eunji… wow okay I’m sorry but this is too funny I share more connection with a roadside snail than these two did in the rekindled version of their relationship no.2) That scene shows just how inexperienced and young Jihyun is while simultaneously telling about his character growth and his response to fear (much like his final conversation with Jaewon about being afraid and maybe I’ll write an overall analysis about that, about overcoming fear in t8s but now it’s still just a scattered mess inside my head and I’m really not in any state to try and get into Jaewon’s head anytime in the near future so….)

I love LOVE the club room discussion:  ◦ first Jihyun wordlessly comforting Jaewon, not letting go of his hand, ◦ then shouldering all the blame so the surfing club can get re-approved, ready to give up something if that means, in turn, giving something to Jaewon, ◦ and then Yoonwon showing vulnerability – these are the scenes that make t8s so special to me… the buildup in this scene, the little things following each other that make Jaewon snap out of his stoic state to comfort a friend because he is a caring person and Yoonwon is his friend… these particles build on each other to push Jaewon to react, to move and do something (much like Jihyun finding - w/ the help of Joonpyo - Jaewon’s pictures and realising that Jaewon did not give up on photography and that fact propelling him to support Jaewon’s dream and giving him another camera?) It’s all action and reaction, some clear and loud, some like these snippets ready to get connected to reveal their final meaning

And I love that when Jihyun gifted the new camera the backdrop of that scene is a cluttered rock wall, all these one-of-a-kind entities of different sizes and forms backing them up from behind, when Jaewon is still at the point where he tries to piece his life together.

And Jihyun waits for him at a boulder that’s separate from the rest, where Jaewon joins him and then Jihyun gives him something precious and leaves. Jaewon stays there, because after everything that went down, much like Jihyun, that singular boulder is a certain and unshakable place. And he accepts what Jihyun gave him.

So when Eunji kisses him, Jaewon sees with his own eyes that what he does is actively hurting Jihyun because finally FINALLY he looks at Jihyun and what he sees is the pain he inflicted. It dawns on him, in that moment, that his actions are causing Jihyun harm, and that’s exactly what he wanted to protect Jihyun from. So he does what his therapist said and works on himself first (and I love how the creators play with/and portray time without blatantly stating how much of it passes)

Also, Eunji pls sit down and stop saying Jaewon is back in his right mind. He has changed clothes like once in the past 2 weeks ffs… Oh, but Jaewon throwing that same line back to her face?  I apologise, I wasn’t in my right mind yoooooooooooooooooo

When Jaewon said We’re done I was already cackling. Followed by the you’ve worked hard ...let’s agree that he was NOT talking about their assignment shdhgfhdhg. Another perfect establishing line for the following scene (also, Jaewon served in the navy?? he is  i n s a n e)

But back to Jaewon's road to realisation…Sajangnim is so real and I appreciate her every second I see her (also, like, everyone can be an oppa as long as they’re handsome😉). She literally beats some sense into Jaewon lol. It wouldn’t be the same if someone didn’t get boinked on the head with a spoon, that’s the sk experience~~~

The fact that both Jihyun and Jaewon were heavily led in the direction of finding answers by the advice of WOMEN *can I get an AMEN?* yes, I’m back at my women portrayed in t8s shit again

lmao I’m sorry but that Conan Gray song doesn’t even play for 0.3 seconds and Jihyun is already like yo Joonpyo do u know this song it’s so nice? hahaha but seriously,

I really like that Jaewon walks to Jihyun because walking with purpose is soooo powerful. He makes his way steadily and with determination towards happiness. He doesn't need to run, there is no need for that rush of urgency bc we always see these flashy and big actions portrayed as the picture of ultimate declaration (of yearning/wanting/striving for a better existence) when in reality, the quiet and sure things are just as valid, and often filled with more power.

The first time Jaewon unconsciously wandered (through roads he previously took w/ Jihyun) back to the samgyeopsal restaurant it made him smile, his heart led him there. This time however, he makes that choice consciously, he chooses to go to Jihyun and his every step is filled with that decision and with dedication...to pursue Jihyun and pursue happiness because Jihyun IS happiness to Jaewon and once his mind no longer fights it, going to Jihyun and trying is the simplest and most reasonable thing to do. The magic of Jaewon’s power walk is the conscious gravity of that realisation, of that act.

while watching the opening of ep10 all I could think of was t8s 🤝 tms: starts off teasing (the whole season) with clips that only happen in the last ep

If I’m honest, out of all the episodes, ep9-10 were the choppiest, but I get it, they had a lot to cover. There’s no swell, no smooth transition between the scenes, just a wave we climb and when it’s gone we hop onto another wave. Also, the experience of the last ep is akin to reading a c-webnovel where you get to the extras after the main story’s end… well, ep10 is all those extras combined:

◦ idk call me petty but Taehyung and Eunji are toxic people, I wouldn’t want them in my life for anything. Jaewon forgiving them is one thing bc it gives him closure but I hope as hell he cuts those two snakes out for good ◦ Jihyun’s dilemma of when was our first day (as a couple) is so ‘dating and romantic relationships in sk 101’ ◦ ily tipsy Jihyun, ily unruly Jaewon

I love everything @emotionallychargedtowel said in this post (thank you for the wonderful observations, your gripes are valid, I have even more lol) especially the bit about wanting, asking for, or expecting a certain level of care from the important people in our lives, Jiyun’s game, and the pursuer-distancer bit OMG THANK YOU FOR WRITING THAT!!! Jihyun’s game is my fav moment from the last two eps (closely followed by the opening sequence of ep10), it tells so much about his attitude and dedication towards their relationship

And on this note, I agree 120% with everything @emotionallychargedtowel and @jemmo wrote about the complexity of their relationship showed by the ‘twist to conventional roles' (and might I add, not just in queer romance but in romance as a genre too) Not me thinking about my post about Jaewon and Jihyun both actively romancing each other because for equality in a relationship, there has to be space for the ppl involved to move around, and at times, switch places (like taking care of one’s partner, be the one to woo them… then being taken care of, being wooed and so on) because it’s a dance where they take turns to lead depending on the situation because they both want this, because they feed into each other’s happiness.

Jaewon teases Jihyun, establishing again and again that he knows Jihyun is young, younger than Jaewon himself but he does NOT patronise Jihyun for it. It’s an indulgent way of acknowledging his bf’s youth while fully regarding him as an adult. And whenever Jihyun tries to downplay their age gap, whenever he puts them on the same standing with the casual slips of banmal, Jaewon is so happy to be treated like a friend, like someone of the same age as Jihyun. He doesn’t try to use his hyung status as leverage… it’s a balancing act, it is give-and-take and letting Jihyun give back and letting himself receive just as much because Jaewon appreciates Jihyun and takes him seriously as a person, not just as a cute younger boyfriend in need of doting on.

Thank you for sharing that song and that particular line bc isn’t that what Jihyun did again and again, meeting Jaewon more than halfway?? Even at the end of ep9 he waited for Jaewon and when he saw him, he went down to meet him in front of the dorms. Jihyun took that extra step, once again meeting Jaewon more than halfway and ever since watching that scene my chest is so full

All in all, The Eighth Sense is a beautifully crafted, though evoking drama, full of passion and love apparent from its detailed and consistent plotline, believable three-dimensional characters, exceptional quality and cinematography. It made me kinda obsessed for 5 weeks and evoked thoughts and feelings I have not experienced since To My Star: Our Untold Stories. ANIMAL WELL THOUGHTS (+ bigmode dunkey publishing thoughts)

so, animal well came out, and... i remember hearing about it sometime around february or march, but i hadnt realized bigmode was publishing it lol i havent played it yet, but i definitely plan to heres what i know: its a very funky and mysterious game, surreal kinda vibes. if you liked rain world for being a metroidvania but then also deciding to do weird shit with its world and go founky, but you maybe wished it was more about weird funky stuff, then... maybe you'll be interested! ive heard from furyforged, a yter i watch, that through following its development it has given him noita vibes in terms of the mysteries afoot in the world, and how there were even ARGs for stuff like the release date... but its supposedly all meant to be reasonably solvable without the internet? its supposedly quite surreal, and ive heard nothing but "oh my god this is literally one of the best games ever" even from people who i... really thought wouldnt give a darn about a quirky indie game which helps with the segue into the bigmode in the room

so, i honestly forgot dunkey did that whole thing with starting a game publishing thing... and now everyones talking about "wow, the first game that he publishes comes out and its a 10/10 GOTY contender according to most outlets. after we all laughed at him for saying i will only publish good videogames" and i think that no matter how you spin it, that is definitely quite hilarious, and huge congrats to the devs of animal well for having such positive reception. but it got me thinking about ... well, a game being published by someone well known for their career before publishing. by an influencer, content creator, whatever you'd call dunkey, and... like yeah, i suppose the duty of a publisher IS to help spread the word of the game and do the marketing and stuff, so the devs themselves dont have to, but it must be kinda strange to have people not just talking about your game for its pure contents, but talking a lot about DUNKEY and like. HIS achievements. i guess i just... don't want that to overshadow the game itself? i mean, it probably wont since... yknow, people separate publishers and games pretty darn easily. its what publishers do: they give games attention. dunkey said what he wanted to do with bigmode was to like, invest in games that he BELIEVES in and that he thinks SHOULD get more attention instead of just being yet another indie swept under the rug... which is great, because theres too many good indie games that go underappreciated just bc they dont get enough good marketing. it just kinda feels sad being reminded of that though but like, i just hope it isnt confined to being "the dunkey owned publisher, no way funny haha man" out of... yknow. well. i dont want games published by bigmode to be overshadowed by him. ...probably a silly worry though. again people dont say stuff like "oh yeah i really love [game publisher] they did so great" they talk about the devs when it comes to the contents of the game. the reason people are talkin about dunkey is probably because this is the FIRST game for bigmode to publish, and ... that he proved himself right, at least so far i mainly just ... think its a bit of a unique experience, and it makes me simultaneously happy for animal well, and bummed out for other small indie games, knowing that ultimately there are games of this quality coming out and flying under peoples radar just bc they dont get the resources and marketing of a good publisher

not sure what the general opinion on this is but the seven sisters of purgatory are annoying af. i hate ronove, i can't stand the seven sisters, beatrice fr needs to step up her furniture skills

beatrice and eva always reminded me of one another a little, mostly cause they're both really sharp lmao, always using that very sardonic tone, even their voices reminded me of one another, sometimes they flash a glimpse of vulnerability for a second etc etc. and lol lol all of that became very funny to me with the whole succession thing? like yeah?? if anyone's going to succeed beatrice i guess it'd be eva lmao?? that makes sense?? ok i can see that

one day everything's fine and under control and then the next day there is regular blondie beatrice, virgilia kumasawa beatrice (??) and child eva beatrice in the same shot and you don't know what to do with yourself anymore

for real now, this succession concept does drive me a bit crazy. if there's eva and then there's golden witch beatrice eva, if there's kumasawa (??) and then there's golden witch beatrice kumasawa (?? i really don't know what's going on with that person), then... then there's golden witch beato and... where's the other part?? her other "self"? there HAS to be one, right? if that's how it works? who IS beato, who WAS beato, WHAT is beato, what's her name?? that other "human" version of her in the portrait?? that's very boring to be the answer. girl, who are you and how did you get here. and also, unrelated but what IS a witch exactly... cause that term is beginning to be used very freely

which drives me to another point, which is:

yes, i understand the concept and i believe it? cause i guess that's all i can do? but? IS there only one truth? cause i've been thinking for some time now that it's actually highly unsatisfactory if the "solution" (??) to this whole thing is just "magic doesn't exist ha". like no?? if there's a plane where child eva is being crowned the golden witch happening simultaneously with adult eva going on normally in rokkenjima... the eva situation seemed to me very distinctly to be a case of two things happening simultaneously, in different planes, and not just a case of two different "options" that we have to choose from. very eye opening. idk where i'm getting at with this, i guess it just feels really stupid to me to have to choose which one is the "truth", generally speaking, between all magical and "real" situations? that just raises more questions really. what is this other plane, adult eva seems to be completely unaware of it ("the witch inside eva claimed exclusive possession in a loud voice. of course, that didn't reach even close to rosa's ears, and it probably didn't reach eva's either"), etc etc. or maybe i'm the one being stupid

hold on i got another "maeveannie vs maevelena" comparison post in me all of a sudden

i was thinking to myself again about why maeveannie is so fun to me for certain grand, dramatic tropey stories (and shitposts) but far less easy (or appealing?) to imagine as a long-term established relationship, whereas for maevelena, that's like, the the whole delicious point of it

and then that led me to lookin back at some of my fics and noting a common thread in how i envision maeveannie is maeve's self-loathing side really coming out, her tendency to keep annie at arm's length, her belief that she's bad for annie (or anyone) and her refusal to accept that annie could love her.

because that's not really present in how i write maevelena. well, it's there a LITTLE, but more of an undercurrent, an underlying repressed fear on maeve's part, way less prominent and definitely not a NAMED part of their dynamic (well, until the point in tmdoms where it becomes one lol)

so why is that? let me muse aloud (atype?) about it

Power differential? - I also feel that maeve has this sort of simultaneous pride/guilt complex about having power over annie, which is kind of funny that i don't think she has that with elena at all, because she has 'more' of a power differential over elena, right? but somehow with annie being closer it feels more named, more important. with elena ofc it's obvious, maeve is a supe, she's not, they don't have to TALK about it. but maeve feels the need to remind annie constantly that she's stronger. lmao. bc otherwise it might be forgotten. then there's also the age thing - not that it's BIG age gaps either way, but maeve being older than annie vs younger than elena, also the whole her being annie's childhood hero and all, that shifts things. also makes it harder for maeve to believe that annie likes the "real" her and not just the vought image of her. and then there's also the experience/systemic power difference - maeve's experience and influence at vought and her knowledge of how fucked up it is which she only occasionally/slowly shares with annie, is another layer of power, which is completely irrelevant when it comes to elena. (well, there's still the whole issue of maeve lying and keeping pertinent dangers & pertinent traumas of her own from elena for the sake of 'protecting' her, but that's ... a very different flavor, than the way maeve is at times an aloof bystander while annie's abused at work or else an actively callous bully, lol).

lower stakes = more obsessing over it? - like what i said about the physical (super)power differential being smaller between annie and maeve vs elena and maeve making it less need to be discussed... i think the same thing applies to most of the fears maeve has in the relationship? specifically the fears of her lover being hurt or killed. at least the maeveannie fics i've written thus far, maeve goes a little overboard being protective over annie, whereas that's... less of a thing with elena. part of that is a natural byproduct of annie being closer to the "line of fire" if you will and also annie being prone to PUTTING herself in more danger by provoking homelander/etc. while elena is certainly not doing that. but on the other hand elena is literally ALWAYS inches away from death if homelander should find out about her/decide he wants to hurt her to hurt maeve. not to mention any of the other non-homelander things that can more easily harm a regular person vs. a supe of annie's caliber. but i think that's the thing: the reality of how easy it would be for elena to be hurt or killed - because of maeve or even by maeve - forces Maeve to become excellent at compartmentalizing or ignoring that danger. like to even be with elena at all she has to put that away 100%. because otherwise she would not be able to function day to day. with annie, though, the worry is just below a threshold that makes it acceptable to think about, which leads to it torturing maeve by dominating her thoughts. it's like, 'annie's not in as much danger as a regular person would be bc she's a supe... but she's still in a lot of danger! more danger than she knows! and she's not gonna be smart about it because she's all "heroic"! so i clearly HAVE to dedicate myself to protecting her if she likes it or not!!!'

the mere existence of maevelena colors everything about maeveannie? - i can't write any fic about maeve (and have no desire to) that doens't include her relationship with elena at least as a part of her past, because to me it dos so much to inform her character. so anytime i'm writing maeveannie, it's a scenario where... maeve has had and lost elena. which naturally would make her more insecure (if she lost elena due to her own faults/elena moving on) or more overprotective (if elena was hurt or killed in this AU, esp if because of maeve) or both.

maevelena is more toxic but in a more healthy way - maybe my longtime maevelena elites will get what i mean by this but like. maeve and elena are like borderline codependent in how much they are willing to go back to each other despite flaws. and also in how long they let issues simmer before finally addressing them, bc they KNOWWWW they love each other and will end up forgiving it in the end, but also the letting it simmer makes it blow up more before they get to that point but that's what i loooove about them. compare to maeveannie, which, at least as i write it (grand tropey stories, see?) is much faster paced, more dramatic... and more direct in terms of conflict, mainly due to annie. because annie cuts right to the heart of shit and if she has an issue with something, including maeve, she says it outright. she has no issue telling maeve she's disappointed with her, no matter what point of their relationship they're in... no hesitation calling maeve out. and, well, elena doesn't necessarily hesitate to do that either, but in a different way. ...

i mean, it's twofold, right? there's the obvious factor of elena has less vantage point to call maeve out about hero stuff/vought stuff because she's less involved in that and doesn't have to make those kinds of tough calls herself. (even when she learns about flight 37 and is clearly upset/shaken by it, her reaction isn't "how could you? you did the wrong thing" but "i need time to process this, it's horrifying, but I don't blame you"). but then there's also the fact that to annie, maeve is the former hero knocked off the pedestal. but to elena, maeve is her needy depressed (ex)girlfriend who must be taken care of because she's just a little BABY struggling with trauma and alcoholism and a bad childhood :( annie might see that side a bit, esp as they grow closer, but it's never gonna be her first or only image of maeve. whereas for elena, even when she's in the midst of calling maeve out, she's only ever so far (this far 🤏) away from getting ready to cuddle maeve if she cries, yknow?

which is what leads to maeve and elena having that "toxic but strong" dynamic where they've broken up soooo many times and might just do it again but also always get back together, and understand each other so well, but also hurt each other so deep... while maeve and annie have more of, well i guess you could also call it toxic but strong in a DIFFERENT way. where they're much more explosive and have a lot more direct conflict in terms of openly disagreeing with each other (especially when it comes to their shared "work" of heroism) but that ability to have it all out in the open is also kind of the only thing that gives them a shot of working

that being said, i still have a LOTTT of trouble picturing long-term, established relationship maeveannie. (maybe it's just because that feels like a betrayal of maevelena in my head? LMAO but i'm a multishipper, i swear! it's just harder for maeveannie to feel INTERESTING in a long-term-established scenario. whereas maevelena's style of dysfunction can kind of ONLY be portrayed via that window of context.)

Director's Cut for 'Indie-Quack' (What'd I Miss?)!

Before I begin info-dumping there are two things I’d like to start off with:

1. This group I have in this story (Della, Fenton, Gandra, and Gyro) is a fun group and I think a lot of great stories could be made with just the four of them. They all are fun characters on their own and have these similarities and differences with one another that make them play off one another really well. Plus I feel like none of them are the true “adult” of the group since they have characteristics that make them in some ways more mature than the others as well some that makes them more immature than the others. Also I could totally see Della say, “Pfft! White birds, amirite!?!” to Fenton and Gandra whenever Gyro acts up or something

2. This interaction between Gina Linetti and Rosa Diaz from the episode Game Night (S05 E10) of FOX’s NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine:

Okay, let’s talk about Della and Gandra!!

So this is a story I’ve had in the back of my head for a long time. How long? Well I think it’d be safe to say since I wrote the story Under the Influence of Gandra Dee! where I had Gyro tell Gandra that she reminds him of Della

And it's a funny thing on how my stories come to be, 90% of the time they start off as a funny interaction or joke between two or more characters and then if I am too tickled by my own sense of humor I'll be like, "Well now this has to be a story". For this story it was the interaction Della and Gandra had where they both joked about being fired by Gyro for getting high in his lab

Finding a reason for them to be there was not too hard, I did always love the idea of Gizmocloud and since it was never really completed in the show I just felt that could be a good side story to have in the Indi-Quack! series (yeah, I do plan on having a story where it is completed, the main characters of that story will be Huey and B.O.Y.D.). And having Della join the team for the Gizmocloud just made sense to me cause: 1. Della is my favorite character and I'm biased, 2. Someone like Della who is not only handicapped but also missed out an entire decade of technological advances on Earth could offer a unique perspective on the Gizmocloud and help the team make the program and make it more accessible to everyone which I'm sure is the goal, and 3. Della actually is an intelligent duck and could make good use out of it

I never really talked about this since I'm pretty sure this is the first time someone has asked me to talk about Indi-Quack! but the presence of weed in these stories is one of the elements that I tend to overthink (at least in the ones where the characters actually use it). From the very beginning I always told myself these stories need to simultaneously be about the weed but also not about the weed, if that makes sense. I feel like if these stories were just Disney characters getting high they'd wear thin real fast so I try to have some sorta heart in my stories (I'd say the stories Legalize It! and Often Imitated; Never Duplicated! are just straight up goofy stories that are just jokes) so far this one I figured a story about Della and Gandra catching each other up in what the other has missed out on while being isolated while also being able to embrace their chaotic side around one another would make for a sweet story

I always have fun putting two characters together that never really interacted in the show and figuring out how they'd be around one another. Things I always consider when doing that is figuring out their similarities, their differences, the type of adventurer they are, the people we've seen them interact with, and the kind of comedy they produce in their episodes

When it came to thinking about the kind of comedic shenanigans for these two, I knew right away I wanted the story to be about Della and Gandra spending most of their work hours just goofing off with one another and then eventually finishing the job they were supposed to do at the last possible second

When writing these two, I feel like I took a lot of inspiration from Della's "friendship" with Penny and the friendship Gandra has with Fenton. Della being more on the extroverted side with Gandra being more of an introvert brings a nice balance to this dynamic

Something I always make sure I do whenever I write for Gandra is to include a lot of facial reactions to whatever the hell is going on or whatever is happening to her, because a lot of her comedy comes from that. (Seriously. Watch any episode with Gandra in it, she has some hilarious deadpan reactions. My personal favorite is in the finale when Dewey was happily talking about how often this adventure stuff happens to the family and Gandra has this face that's like "What the FUCK is wrong with this family?!?") And having someone like Della is just perfect for her to play off of, for how in-your-face Della can be whether she means it or not. Not to mention I love making puns and snarky jokes, so some of the dialogue for Della and Gandra just comes natural to me

Besides jokes, I did really want to a moment where Della and Gandra reflect on their own lives and what they struggle with because I think they would understand one another and know where they other is coming from. Della is often seen as unintelligent and I know that Gandra would be able to find the brilliance in her that others might not see (kinda like with Fenton). And honestly, Gandra has done a lot of cool things but I don't think anyone has ever told her they were proud of her and I always felt that Della would be the one to do that if they were to ever interacted with one another.

A line I really wanted to include in the story (and I was glad when the right spot for it) was Gandra telling Della that they weren't built to live that 9-5 lifestyle, because when I think of those two I think just that

Della doesn't really have a job, she's an adventurer. She knows how to do adventure stuff. If she were to have a job, I like to think she'd take over Launchpad's responsibilities once that pilot moves to St. Canard and marries Darkwing Duck like he always wanted to do. Plus when it comes to adventuring, Della's never really in it for the monetary gain, she's just there for the adventure. (Which the more I think about her time on the moon, the more I realize how much of a cruel ironic punishment that is. Just a decade long adventure alone by yourself trying to get home)

And when it comes to Gandra, sometimes I feel like I'm one of the few people that doesn't want her to work at McDuck Enterprises. Like collaborate with them, sure. Definitely. She can still work with them, but when people act like that her part of her character development is getting a corporate job, it just doesn't sit right with me. It just feels like they're making her be more like Fenton or Gyro when she's her own damn bird, damnit. Her being a freelancer is not a bad thing

There were a lot of stuff I wanted to include in this story that just didn't make the cut because it would've gotten the story off track, not really add anything to the story, take away from the story, etc. I might as well share some stuff:

When Della was talking about the friends and family she'd hang out with are all over the world living their lives, one I was thinking about including was the penguin character Skittles from the '87 DuckTales show who befriended Webby in the original show. That scene would've ended with Gandra asking a couple of times "Her name was Skittles?!" and then BOOM cut to vending machines where they're snacking. But I like the ending to that scene because it does bring up Launchpad who I already knew I wanted to appear at the end as well as Della telling Gandra "Fuck you" after Gandra did the same to her moments ago. I love a good friendly "fuck you"

Speaking of the vending machines scene, originally I wanted to Gandra to just vent about ALL the F.O.W.L. members she worked with, but I figured it'd be best to just focus on the main two, Heron and Bradford, her bosses. Mainly because I'm already working on another story where Gandra shows her disdain for Steelbeak and I always had this headcanon that Della was never a fan of Bradford Buzzard even when he was "on their side" due to his bureaucratic and anti-adventure attitude.

I think at one point I wanted to the two drink a whole bunch of energy drinks (think stuff like Bang or Monster) but that idea didn't really go anywhere

In the story I had the two sing The Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani, but originally I thought they should sing a song by P!nk, but the more I thought about it I felt that the P!nk song reflected Della more than Gandra, and I wanted the song to capture a side of Della and Gandra they both share. I will say this, Della will sing that P!nk song in another story I'm working on that does star Gandra

Originally the Gizmocloud scene would have been nowhere near as entertaining. I did want to do a joke about the Gizmocloud being similar to the Holodeck from Star Trek which then would have lead to the two jokingly using technobabble to explain what they were going to do to Della's leg to improve it, but that would've just ripped off a joke Futurama did ("Like putting too much air in a balloon!")

Speaking of the Gizmocloud scene, once I knew I wanted the two to fight in there I thought it would be funny if they started generating friends and family to fight on their sides, but that would've been way too much. I might write that someday here as a little bonus, but for now, I have no plans

At one point I thought it'd be funny to cut to them in the middle of building Della's leg where out of nowhere Della asks Gandra if she tops Fenton and then Gandra casually replies with a quick "Oh yeah." And then Della responds with a "Nice" and then the scene ends. But I didn't want to do too many sex jokes in this story and I felt the cut from the two fighting to the two finishing their work was funny enough. (Also I'm surprised with the amount of Ace readers I have when I write sex jokes that'd make a 7th grader roll their eyes)

I did think it would be funny if the two did do some damage to lab such as Della and Gandra actually attaching rockets to her leg and that leg getting itself stuck in the wall or something, but I wanted the two to be true to their words about being responsible for Fenton and Gyro

Not really something cut, but something I almost cut out of the story was the final scene with Launchpad. My mind kept going back and forth if I wanted to do that scene or just end it at Gyro's final line of the story because it would've made for a sweet little ending, but I love the Launchpad scene way too much to just drop it

Well I hope you enjoyed reading all this, I'm sure there's other stuff I wanna write. But I really wanna go jogging right now.

8 shows to get to know me!

1. What We Do In The Shadows. This show really does have it all. A queer vampire polycule. A couple that's been together for 300 years and is still in love. The absolute BEST will-they-won't-they on television bar none. Guillermo's character arc is the best growth I've seen in a character in some time. It's hella sexy at all times. Everyone is so perfectly flawed and complicated. This show has inspired me to write more fanfiction than any show ever has! Also it's HILARIOUS, and tragic.

2. Our Flag Means Death. This is the sweetest purest love story and reminds me that no matter what you hate about yourself, or what others hate about you, there is someone out there who will love you for all those things! The representation is off the charts in this show and my love for every single babygirl member of the crew is immense. The only downside in the fandom is the discourse about Izzy. Like seriously, just let him be a part of the narrative. He's fun to hate and he's fun to play with in crack fic/art.

3. Doctor Who. This show will always and forever pretty much be my religion. The messages of love and intelligence over brute force and cynicism are so great. And the message that every single soul in the universe MATTERS and is important and unique and beautiful. And these messages are delivered through a gender fluid intergalactic nerdy tour guide with an infectious sense of WONDER for everything who takes you through time and space battling fascism and capitalism in a mess of camp effects and plot holes. I have seen all the classic and new series and I'm working my way through the Big Finish audios and EDA books.

4. The X-Files. Probably one of the best shows the small screen has ever seen. It's scary, it's suspenseful, it's funny, it's romantic, it's smart. It has simultaneously the longest non-sexual, emotionally intimate marriage AND the ultimate sexual slowburn. I could (and have) watch every episode a million times and enjoy them just as much every time.

5. Star Trek. I love every iteration of Star Trek, but The Original Series is my absolute favorite. It just gives me so much hope for the future. That someday, after all the human race's growing pains, after all the war and the racism, sexism, and homo/transphobia, after the greed and the poverty and pollution, we'll LEARN. We can be better. We'll explore and we won't explore to conquer or assimilate; we'll explore to learn about life and it's complexities and become even better versions of ourselves. And the friendship and sense of family on the Enterprise is just so beautiful. Also Kirk/Spock are the best definition of soulmates I've ever seen. The alien cultures within the world of Star Trek are just so well built and thought out (much better than in Star Wars). As an anthropology major, this FACINATES me.

6. Good Omens. The longest truest love story you have ever seen and one of the only (alleged) representations of romantic asexuality I have ever seen. Aziraphale and Crowley, an angel that doesn't fit in in heaven and a demon that doesn't fit in in hell but they fit with EACH OTHER and they love earth so dearly. It's humanism vs. religion and we win.

7. BBC Ghosts. I'm a sucker for the found family trope and this show does it so well. They're FORCED to become found family because there is literally no way for them to leave. All the ghosts are such nuanced (and autistic) characters and Mike is the best husband. He's so supportive of his wife and her crazy ghosts. BTW the U.S. version can go suck eggs in hell.

8. Willow. A return to the fun fantasy genre and the power of love and friendship that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's also a sapphic's dream! A demi-masc princess and her lady knight in a love story that kiss in the very fist episode? YES PLEASE! And Elora may be the chosen one but she sure does suck at it at first, and I LOVE that about her! The chosen one shouldn't be a perfect magic user, they should need to learn like anyone else. And THRAXUS BOORMAN!!!! Witty, slutty, leggy, longhaired, bisexual scoundrel who deserves to be in every single fucking scene! BUT RIGHT NOW IT'S ON THE KNIFES EDGE OF CANCELLATION SO GO SUPPORT IT ON DISNEY+ RIGHT NOW!
