The chances of me reading a published book to its end drop catastrophically when I spot a spelling or grammatical error.
I know we live in an age of "hurry and get this on shelves as fast as possible and with as little expenditure of time and money", but publishers can only afford to be so cheap and hasty before it begins to shake the confidence of their customers. And annoy the shit out of them.
It's supposed to be "peal". Spellcheck didn't catch this one, and AI is so dumb it probably wouldn't have either.
#no beta we die like the readers' enthusiasm
#this is my villain (editor) origin story#bender reads#bender rants#spelling and grammar#publishers#writers#i'm not necessarily angry at the author. esp young authors who haven't read much outside of fanfic & don't have a strong vocabulary#which i think may be the case with this author#mistakes happen. i get it#i'm more angry at the publishers and editors. or lack of them#this was not a self-published book btw

my father told me he read it, but he hasn't read it. that's okay. my friends keep picking the words out of my throat.
someone once told me that the more trigger warnings that go on a book, the better it is. i didn't mean to write something with so many conditional phrases - i was writing about what i felt while being a human. sometimes you are a person and sometimes you are a statistic. sometimes it is falling upwards and sometimes it's sliding back down again.
my father tells me that it will be difficult to get people to read it. i didn't like the idea of a singular genre. i'm not going to lie to you - it is actually a difficult book to get through. i change the rules in it. it's not poetry or prose explicitly. it's neither false nor reality. i give you the tools to "solve" the book, but i let you do the thinking. my father says people don't care to think. i don't know about that - i think we just, like, enjoy reading.
the thing is - i was tired of stories about survival where someone with depression goes to therapy and wakes up okay. i didn't live like that. i was tired of books about violence, where the gore of what i experience was splashed in glitter to lick off the page. like, i was a person, you know? i had a life and a job and a family. and in books, i watched my story get ripped up so people could explore the viscera of my body. so they could feel good. my brother once called it inspiration pornography. we had walked out of a suicide-prevention seminar, both of us disgusted while the increasingly-elated presenter kept listing methods-of. i remember the look on my brother's face. like i would tear that man apart given the right time and place.
my father says that kids these days. he warns me against writing about things that are too-serious. he says that they don't want it. i don't listen. he does make me take out a scene from the book where i go to church after having sex with a woman. it used to be the 7th scene in the book. i don't think he's read further than that, it rocked him too hard to continue.
it's a book about being queer. it's a book about being raised catholic. it doesn't have monsterfucking, i'm sorry. it's just about, like.
at some point you have to choose to stay here. and then you do have to stay here, which takes practice. this is about forming the habit. this is about what happens after you've already started doing the work. because, like. you keep going. you have to. and it's like. very imperfect.
i should make a post on instagram. i should make this announcement less bittersweet. but like -- i'm giving it you, specifically, because i think you know why i had to write it. you and me. this little community.
body's a bad monster. here's the link if you're interested in ordering.
#i will never shut up about this#by the way . this is the book that u are trying to get me to eat#also available on other links!! barnes and noble and s&S#also btw i drew the cover :) they asked me to lol#btw this isn't self-published. this is like. book deal thru simon and schuster

GUESS WHO CAN PHYSICALLY RELEASE THEIR BOOK NOW????
Thermal Equilibrium is my book about Q and Z, two teenagers who meet eachother through a studying agreement. What starts off as a simple attempt to raise Q’s GPA quickly turns into something much more though, as the gods of Q and Z’s universe decide to make their lives hell. While Q is given powers that are beyond their understanding, Z meets with other entities and struggles with their sense of self. Throughout the process of enduring reality-shattering events, fighting for their lives, and of course, attempting to be normal adolescents, Q and Z grow closer and closer until a conflict between them starts wrecking the universal rules of the universe- and threatens to ruin their friendship in its entirety. After all, the term “soulmate” is not just a descriptor for a relationship.
It is also a warning label.
you can buy the book here!: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CFX6BMN6?nodl=1&ref_=pe_3052080_397514860&dplnkId=3506d549-2778-4799-8fd5-126279b66f3a
#Author#self publishing#btw I want everyone to know that this is NOT a romance story#Q and Z are both aroace and in a QPR for most of the book#that being said!!! Enjoy!!#q and z#my characters#RAUGHSUDUSHDJS

most splatterpunk novels are like. here is the most poorly written gore scene ever. here is also the worst way to execute this concept. but i'm still gonna read it because i appreciate the idea of what the author is doing.
#anyways i'm reading the playground by aron beauregard#or whatever his name is and it's like.....okay??? weak sauce bro#i made it past the infamous page 40 that 'no one makes it past' and i'm like buddy. that's fuckinf weak sauce. cringe even.#but like i appreciate the concept of self publishing something so horrific as a push back against the prevalence of sanitized mainstream#entertainment or smth like that. but like weak sauce bro. weak sauce.#and it's prob bc the writing style and prose is so bad like this guy does not know the meaning of subilty or the concept of show don't tell#but i appreciate it even if it's like. weak sauce. as i have said.#if you have a lot of triggers around like any of the usual stuff don't go into this book blind btw

Top five fanfics that I still think about a literal decade later:
The Symphony Verse by shandyall. Glee AU where Blaine has a stutter and he meets Kurt in an online class. Incredibly written and so very sweet and real, follows Kurt and Blaine from college to having kids. Actually made me want to become a speech pathologist.
If I Die Young by BlowTheCandlesOut: Glee AU where Blaine is diagnosed with brain cancer after they graduate high school. A tearjerker with a great plot.
Performance in a Leading Role by MadLori: Sherlock AU where Sherlock and John are famous actors cast in a romantic Hollywood movie. Delightfully a product of its time but masterfully penned and keeps you at the edge of your seat as a slow burn.
The Hay Wain by A Benediction: Sherlock AU about a young Sherlock running away from his sexually abusive uncle. Stuck with me because of its unique (and heartbreaking) plot. Major NSFW for child abuse.
The Heart Rate of a Mouse by beggarsnotes: Panic!ATD fic set in the 60s. Sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. Threw me straight into my teenage hippie faze and has the best playlists of all time.
Runners Up: A Stranger Heart (Glee), Not Your Average Threesome (Sherlock), Breaking Destiny (Doctor Who), Blind Man’s Go (Hikaru no Go), Alone on the Water (Sherlock), Until the Sun Goes Down (Glee).
#title is self explanatory#this isn’t a trend but it should be#these stories have sat in my brain forever and always will#fanfiction can be just as impactful as published literature!#and tbh all of these are better written than a whole lot of books too#if I was into book binding… these would be the ones. hands down#fanfiction rec list#btw I think all of these would probably be enjoyable for anyone even outside of their fandoms#and yes bc it’s me they’re all m/m and whumpy#can you tell what I was like in high school based on these fandoms? lol

started writing a side story ("spin off") of the unfinished book I've been working on cause I really am ADHD, but one of the characters in this is like. I'm obsessed with her. I want her carnally. and she isn't even gonna make a real appearance in the "main story" (ie my (unfinished) "main book"), why do I torture myself. but if I finish this side story, I'll probably be sharing it first since it's much shorter and not gonna be a novel length. so honestly who knows, maybe other people will meet her before they even meet my actual protagonist of this universe. that'd be really funny actually
#with both my book and this story btw I plan on making them free online when/if they're done.#I want to work on publishing too (maybe self publishing maybe professional idk)#but I'm literally a pirate. I'm not putting my shit behind a paywall lmao <3#kurtfairy tag

[Image: quote reading 'As my friend Julian puts it, only half winkingly: "God blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason God made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine, so that humanity might share in the act of creation."' End description.]
that quote like “god gave us transness for the same reason he made grapes but not wine; yeast but no loaves — so we may partake in the divine act of creation”
#julian k jarboe has a book called 'everyone on the moon is essential personnel' with a short story centered around this quote btw#it's a short story collection with various stories mostly involving trans/queer; feminist; and anti-capitalist themes#it's self-published as far as I know (I got in on itch.io) and you should read it#firstly bc jarboe is a good as hell writer who can do a wide variety of styles really well with unique and interesting story ideas#secondly bc i think they should get paid for the degree to which this quote has gone viral/has been stolen#my favourites in the book are 'self care' and 'i am a beautiful bug!'#described

Is that positivity we see :0c You're always sad face how your book won't see the light. You need to keep working hard, that dream won't come true if you don't! :)
I'm doing my best! I've only not been able to write for 3 days so far this year and it's October! (๑ÒωÓ๑)/
#listen just because i get sad about my book doesnt mean i dont love my characters and the plot i put them through#its hard when everyone around me is always telling me 'dont quit your day job'#'being a writer isnt worth it'#'ai is gonna take all the creative work because its cheaper'#which btw if i self publish i fully plan on commissioning an artist to do the cover not ai

Alright now that I finally managed all the comics orders from instagram, I feel confidence to open it here as well 🥺 I will say, I will really appreciate your support! Remember that even fving arts already push us to keep up with what we do;;;
The printed copies of my most recent comic are finally home! It's so well printed, it even makes me feel like it's a professional publishing -but it's not, this is self-published!

It's my second book of three of this year, please look forward to my next works as well... I'm the worst at promoting my stuff 🤧💦
💫💫💫💫 Summary: Bibi tells the story of a kid who has always been in love with drawing, but due to life circumstances, he has to move away from the place he has always lived. With the anxiety of uncertainty, due of telling his parents about his dreams, he and his two friends start weaving their connections through dreams.
Themes: Queer, trans/nb representation. Slice of Life. About drawing and growing up. Details: A5, 206 pages (printed is 218 in total). In Spanish (from Spain) and English I'm selling it for 22 EUR per copy (23,83 USD) OR digitally per 10EUR (11 USD)
First post with samples, over here 💫💫💫💫
If you would like a copy please visit my Kofi shop. If you're in Europe and would like to get it with Vinted (as shipping is cheaper) please contact me back to set it up for you 🥺🤲💗 (Sweden is not available on my Vinted's region btw, notes)

I would like to...make one more posts about it but dunno, I might do a process one soon 🏃♂️🏃♂️💦
#artists on tumblr#original art#ocs#original comic#idk if this is interesting but hm i love making comics I dont think I will ever stop T__T

I Made a Resolution for 2025 to Earn at Least Some Money From my Writing, Each Month (averaged out though the year), which I've not yet kept.
But the year is still young.
My first ambition was to finally finish writing, and self-publish, an original fairy tale with an "Own Voices" protagonist who has cerebral palsy and is aroace (but without using those labels).
But, as I realized, back in February, my neurodiverse body-brain connection breaks down if I try to write fiction (and fiction specifically) when my disability makes the physical act of writing more difficult (as in: the words just leave my brain in the middle of every other sentence, and I get exhausted).
Then, I woke up the other day and thought I might have the spoons to edit and publish short fairy tale genre stories I've already written through the years.
So, now a poll:
And here's the poetry chapbook I wrote 9 years ago:
I get about $6 in royalties for every two books sold through this link, BTW.

hey btw PLEASE check out my buddy cecil @waterloggedsoliloquy's kickstarter for his graphic novel, the guardian's dilemma! i don't normally make promotion posts and am not great at them so you can infer i'm very serious business here. he's a great cartoonist, and having had the pleasure of reading the self-published version i can assure you it's fucking excellent.
the kickstarter goes into a lot more detail, but it's a really great story about power structures and what happens to kids within them. the textured quality of the linework is really gorgeous, both the principal characters are very interesting, and most importantly. amalthea hot.
i love this book and i think it really deserves your time and attention! if you can swing it, i would also recommend you grab the artist bundle, because paleo pioneers vol. 1 is included and it's so fucking cute and i think everybody should read it. ok that's all bye thank you
#hi cecil. btw. surprise! I like your thing.#clobber your followers with this post if it so please you
