a window to break out
The first time he tries to get home, it’s with the ruined pieces of the Tallus in his hands.
Nate knows he was right when he told Blink not to come back for him; there’s too much risk to that. He had to close the door and lock these worlds away, where no one can get hurt. But the Tallus had stayed behind with him.
2. symbiosis
It isn’t that Doric wants a rogue in the party. Rogues are worse liars than anyone, if Forge was anything to go by, and she doesn’t have the patience for that.
3. driftwood
If asked, anyone around would say the best thing Annie Cresta ever did was float.
It was an uneventful final. Bodies, animal and human and mechanical alike, floated like driftwood in the aftershocks of a disaster and the cameras searched the wreckage for any sign of life.
4. honey, honey
Edric plops down onto Ruthless’ bed with what can only be described as a shit-eating grin. He holds a journal in his hands, pages yellowed and leather binding split along the spine where it’s been opened and shut too many times. Edric holds it out toward Ruthless with a little shake.
5. from the bones to the other side
Before the fall, things were… Okay, Edric wouldn’t say things were easier. But they were simpler. Less room for error and for that creeping sense of anxiety and uncertainty on the back of his neck.
6. the waiting and the wanting
Nerd looks lovely today. It’s hardly a surprise; Val is of the expert opinion that Nerd is always lovely, regardless of date or time or circumstance, but he’s not so much of a zealot that he’ll confess as much.
7. something wicked
The first time we speak after she disappears, it’s standing in the bay with cold water splashing against our hips. She’s staring off into the distance, where the sun hovers just above the horizon. With the reflection in the water, it makes a perfect circle. A gold coin just out of reach for the both of us.
8. hooked
The doorway to this realm is foreboding. An arch of animal bones shimmers in the air in front of Lyke, and he almost wants to turn around and high-tail it somewhere else. If the point of an escape route is to take him somewhere safer, then this doesn’t really fit the bill.
9. ground control
“It’s so quiet.”
They’re the first words out of Rivers’ mouth when Caleb tracks her down. She speaks in a shell-shocked monotone that Caleb has heard before — usually after someone is pulled from a burning building, though.
10. burning
Let’s set the scene, then.
It’s a bar in Houston. The lights above the door flicker intermittently. Most of the letters are dim or altogether broken, leading most of those who pass by to believe in its status as a shady, disreputable establishment. Rather than enter from street level, you have to walk down a half flight of stairs.
i thiiiiink most of my writerly mutuals have been tagged in this already but just for funsies i'll go ahead and tag @sarsaparillia @magictavern @birdlord5000 and anyone else who wants to!

please i love you i'm begging you bring back suspension of disbelief bring back trusting the audience like. i cannot handle any more dialogue that sounds like a legal document. "hello, i am here to talk to you about the incident from a few minutes ago, because i feel you might be unwell, and i am invested in your personal wellbeing." "thank you, i am unwell because the incident was hurtful to me due to my childhood, which was bad." I CANT!!!!
do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

Great news for uninsured adults in the USA who want a COVID-19 booster! It now appears that ALL CVS locations are now active participants in the Bridge Access Program. The Bridge Access Program gives out free Covid-19 vaccinations to 18+ adults who otherwise can't afford one, so if you have a CVS near you, please go get one! For others who don't have a CVS near them, please go to vaccines.gov, click on "Find Covid-19 vaccines", fill out which vaccines you prefer (you can mix different vaccines if you have to so i reccomend just marking all of them for the age groups you need), and when the next page loads mark the "Bridge Access Program Participant" option to see only locations that are Bridge Access Program participants. Hopefully, other places that aren't CVS will start participating soon, so just check back every so often to see if there are any updates. The CDC Bridge Access Program website also has more details on what locations will be participating, but only CVS is appearing as an active participant on the vaccines.gov location finder at the moment.

“And Four ends the fight with a clean leg amputation! Pop! Pops!! Did you hear?! Four won!”
“I heard you the first time. I’ve also already seen the battle myself. Keep quiet, and let me concentrate, or I’ll drain too much of your blood.”
