So big thanks to @felix-floyd for doing daily NSP Danny lyric posts, because one of them reminded me about "Puppies In Space."
So... choir arrangement. Have fun! If anyone wants to try singing this, I can DM you the guides!
Minor surprises / spoilers under the cut:
Greatly inspired by:
The Earth Song -- composed by Frank Ticheli
Sure On This Shining Night -- arr. by James Agee, based on the poem by Morton Lauridsen
The joke involves the song "Beautiful" from the Heathers musical
Special thanks to Lukas "thatluckypanda" and Felix for inspiring and motivating me to start NSP creative stuff again!

Songs for the realm of angels - both as it once was, and as it can and will be again. I gave myself a personal challenge with this playlist - classical music that makes me think of Heaven, but none of it based on or inspired by Christianity in any way. Listen here on Youtube. This is a playlist in 4 parts:
Part 1: Gloria. These songs represent the majesty and glory of heaven, light and beauty incarnate.
The Planets, mvt. IV: Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity – Gustav Holst (performed by Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra)
Apollo Arise – Travis Weller (performed by unknown)
The Winged Stallion – Rossano Galante (performed by unknown)
Festive Overture – Dmitri Shostakovich (performed by Frankfurt Radio Symphony)
The Hounds of Spring – Alfred Reed (performed by Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra)
Radiant Joy – Steven Bryant (performed by Lone Star Wind Orchestra)
Minnesota Portraits, mvt. III: Across the Halfpipe – Samuel Hazo (performed by unknown)
Fanfare for the Common Man – Aaron Copland (performed by Minnesota Orchestra)
Part 2: Elisium. These songs represent the peace and tranquility of the part of heaven reserved for human souls, as well as the Garden of Eden. The gentle beauty of paradise.
Chasing Sunlight – Cait Nishimura (performed by ASU Wind Ensemble)
Sleep – Eric Whitacre (performed by Heliotrope Wind Symphony)
The Planets, mvt. II: Venus, the Bringer of Peace – Gustav Holst (performed by Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra)
Dusk – Steven Bryant (performed by University of Kansas Wind Ensemble)
New World Symphony, mvt. II: Largo – Antonin Dvorak (performed by Chicago Symphony Orchestra)
Invisible Cities, mvt. II: Armilla – Dinuk Wijeratne (performed by University of Saskatchewan Wind Orchestra*)
Sheltering Sky – John Mackey (performed by North Texas Wind Symphony)
Winter, mvt. II: Largo – Antonio Vivaldi (performed by Polish Chamber Orchestra, soloist Krzysztof Jakowicz)
Part 3: Dies Irae. The terrifying and absolute wrath of God, in musical form.
Marche Slave – Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (performed by Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra)
Summer, mvt III: Presto – Antonio Vivaldi (performed by Berliner Philharmoniker, soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter)
Vesuvius – Frank Ticheli (performed by North Texas Wind Symphony)
New World Symphony, mvt IV: Finale, Allegro –Antonin Dvorak (performed by Chicago Symphony Orchestra)
Xerxes – John Mackey (performed by United States Army Band)
The Planets, mvt. I: Mars, the Bringer of War – Gustav Holst (performed by Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra)
Part 4: Ex Machina. These songs depict the cold, logical, and almost mechanical side of heaven, most prominently shown with Naomi’s influence.
Mothership – Mason Bates (performed by London Symphony Orchestra)
Einstein on the Beach: Knee Play 1 – Philip Glass (performed by Philip Glass Ensemble)
In C – Terry Riley (performed by unknown)
Dripsody – Hugh Le Caine
Visionary – Kenneth Froelich (performed by University of Saskatchewan Wind Orchestra*)
Einstein on the Beach: Spaceship – Philip Glass (performed by Philip Glass Ensemble)
Concerted Piece for Tape Recorder and Orchestra – Otto Leuning & Vladimir Uttachevsky (performed by unknown)
(as a side note, the two pieces with asterixes? performed by the U of S wind orchestra? I was a part of those performances!)

For the ask game - 6, 10 and 23
Thanks for the ask! Sorry it took so long to get back to answering it!
6 - What’s one story/piece of writing that you are most proud of?
The piece that I’m probably the most proud of at this point in time if my only chaptered work We Can’t Have Faith For Everybody. This is the very first WIP I ever completed (literally and I’ve been writing since around 2005) so its meant a lot to me. It also showed me that I can sit down and power through a piece and publish it in a timely manner. I suppose what makes me the most proud of it is that it has opened the doors to writing more WIPs.
10 - Chapter fics or one long piece?
I am definitely a one-shot person. I love writing challenges and sitting down to hash out a single idea without having to get too deep into it unless I really want to. I’m the type of writer that will write a whole piece in one sitting and then edit it to death and that style lends better to just one long piece I think. But I’m getting more into WIPs so I’ll probably have a few peppered here and thee going forward.
23 - Who or what most inspires your writing?
So I had this really amazing teacher that was so supportive of us (his class) finding creative outlets and going for it. This was like 5th grade but he was the one who encouraged me to try my hand at fine arts. This started with writing and morphed into music. My band director all through middle and high school was a huge part of my formative upbringing and I still go back and listen to some of the music we performed for inspiration. Even now when I’m doing heavy writing I generally will make a playlist that I can listen to if I want to and that helps inspire my writing. Each piece will normally have a song that heavily inspired it even if the song has not a single thing to do with what I’m writing (ex: I wrote ‘Shackled’ to Blue Shades by Frank Ticheli and I wrote ‘Conditioned’ to Sinnerman by Nina Simone).

Once In Twenty (thousand) Lifetimes
an (ongoing) playlist for the Crystal Souls series
so, I’m making a playlist, because my creativity is so incredibly tied to music like, writing and music go hand in hand for me. This playlist, as opposed to Per Aspera, is not chapter based or anything, it’s more based on the general vibe.
Please give it a listen!! (also if there’s one song you listen to off this entire playlist, listen to Serenity “O magnum mysterium”, the song literally changed my life I kid you not)
Curious as to why I picked what songs I picked? Info is under the cut!
Peter Gundry- The Forest Queen: come on it’s called ‘the forest queen’ the album cover is a mystical deer, this just SCREAMS magic fantasy au
Taylor Swift- Cardigan: idk how to describe it, just the vibe of this song is immaculate, also the line “once in twenty lifetimes” inspired the title of the playlist
Lord Huron- Ends of the Earth: “to the ends of the earth, would you follow me? There’s a world that was meant for us to see...” this song has the lyrics and energy of “setting off into the unknown with someone you trust, ready to face the next adventure together” which is, basically the plot of the fic
Alfred Reed- The Hounds of Spring: yes I’m a band geek don’t judge me. anyway, the slower middle section of this song is just filled with melodies and chords that, to me, evoke tenderness and yearning and also I love this song a Lot
Hozier- Would That I: this song is about comparing a lover to a roaring fire and I think it’s very sexy of hozier to write something like that. also this song has lots of Yearning energy
Frank Ticheli- Simple Gifts I. In Yonder Valley: okay another concert band song, this one is good, very delicate, very sweet, very simple, like a valley full of flowers. also frank ticheli is a god.
Gia Margaret- Smoke: this song literally has chirping crickets and soft lyrics I love it
The Japanese House- i saw you in a dream: I saw you in a dream, you came to me, you were the sweetest apparation, such a pretty vision. this one has the energy of seeing someone you know, but they’re not quite there, they’re not quite real
The Paper Kites- Halcyon: this song has a comforting forest-y energy, I think the song is about death but whatever it’s a sweet sounding song
The Walters- Cottage Roads:  this song is literally cottagecore in song form. also the song has 70′s energy which I Love
Ola Gjeilo- Serenity “O Magnum Mysterium”:  wow look another concert band song...... im so predictable. anyway as the name implies, this song conveys the feeling of serenity.
and now it’s time for a  ~musical interpretation~ because this is literally what I study and i’m so passionate about music
anyway. the oboe solo in the beginning and the quiet statements that follow feel to me like a careful, tentative declaration of love, hesitant but open and honest, and the musical swell is magnificent and triumphant and a moment of acceptance and beauty and (I literally cried while playing this piece because of how moving and hauntingly beautiful it is......)
KALEO- Vor í Vaglaskógi:  it’s an Icelandic love song. need I say more?
David Gillingham- Beside Still Waters: this piece is just pretty and like there’s so much variation, it feels like an adventure in and of itself, like a story, a journey!!
(side note, I got to work with Dr. Gillingham once and he has synesthesia, he described the key of E as being very yellow to him)

Month of Inspiration- Day 8
"Angels in the Architecture"- Frank Ticheli
This is such an amazing band song, and I remember playing it in high school. We (obviously) didn't sound this good, but I remember listening to this song and thinking "wow, I want to make music like this!" Although I write music in a different style now, I want to be able to create a piece that's emotional as this.

Loch & Key
Inspired by Frank Ticheli’s Loch Lomond
My heart lies in Loch Lomond, Where grassy mounts meet gusty skies, And the winds whisper solemn melodies Of a love lost, a love of mine.
I once thought it sad Until I struck up the triumphant tune Of a brass choir on the tallest hill, To which dandelion dust flew.
Wishes went this way and that, Free of my grasp, And it was at Loch Lomond that I learnt to let go;
The release of the cannon Was all that it took, And I found that I can appreciate; Not take, just look.
So look upon that deep, grey-blue loch I did, Wondering what lies ahead, On another day, with another choir-- What will I learn next?
