🌦️Dark Sun and 🔅Servant Sun

I tried my hand at designing Servant Sun and Dark Sun.

I'm getting more caught up on the lore!! Click underneath for art closeups and more Lore rants and AU idea! Plus, I have sketches and a comic WIP I've been working on.

For Dark Sun I was inspired a lot by the thumbnails, they give him red eyes a lot in the thumbnails and I like the smarmy red eyed look of the guy. Tried to capture his 'regal-holier then thou' attitude in his design. He's still Sun though, so I used OG Sun's palette (my first Sun design!) to reflect the fact they have the same beginnings. I don't trust anything he says but I know something has totally happened to his Moon (I'm really banking on the idea he ATE him/ ATE his intelligence chip) so he carries his Moon's bell and he also repurposed the star pattern of Moon to parade it around as like a symbol his Moon is at his heal. I don't know if I like his final look but I think it's because I gave him dramatically darker shading vs the other Suns.

Servant Sun! Here's my take on him. He's been suffering for over 10000+ years under Lord Eclipse abuse. We saw how he was being punished just because Lore Eclipse was bored! I feel really bad for this Sun, it was hard to draw a design for him. I think despite his servant title Lord Eclipse just keeps him around not only to keep himself sane but also a trophy/slave to show off to Moon and the others in the afterlife. I had this like monologue for SSun basically, "The sound of bells long ago stopped ringing for the daycare attendant turned servant but Lord Eclipse still can hear the sound of metallic chimes when the neurotic servant cleans thanks to his fanciful additions." (aka the chime of chains) He's also got an apron that's falling apart and SSun used random old fabric to patch it up (it wasn't random it was his old clothes). I was really inspired by Meagancandraw's design of Servant Sun!

Here's my AU sketches. I'm planning to clean these up and maybe color them? This is basically just the AU idea that I think Sun is going to somehow get reborn but be a being reborn from star power and negative star power? I don't know if it's possible? He becomes a mix of the two in my AU. I know some current spoilers and basically I know he may be immune to negative star energy? He can also hold Star Power uniquely and it 'taste good to him'. I will never let go of the fact he told Moon it taste nice like dried watermelon. His untrained magical outburst was also compared to be as powerful as Golden Freddy's. There's big theory he's going to die or be sacrificed but I have this idea what if he's essentially remade? idk just rambly thoughts. So yeah, he has a cool new look to go with his magical transformation.

BTW he is very sad cause he can't be near his family in this AU my brain cooked up. He's basically radiation incarnate now <3 His eyes are cracked because they're intensely pouring out Star/Negative Star power. Just a constant pull and push of power circulating in him.

this is the comic idea I have currently. I don't have a ton of motivation so any encouragement to finish this comic idea would be super appreciated! I'm not a comic-type artist so this is out of my comfort zone (I've made a few comics but usually they are pretty janky)

ON TO THE RAMBLES - spoilers BEWARE:

NEW MOON MY BOY PLS YOU ARE HIDING STUFF FROM YOUR FAMILY. BOY NO. HE IS GONNA USE RUIN TO BRING BACK SOLAR?

Blood Moon just took Ruin. Also Dark Sun repaired Ruin after Molten took him to die in the dead dimension?? BOY??? Also, Dark Sun did something to Eclipse??? Bro is plotting. I wish I could get a read on Dark Sun but I don't even know how much of the truth he's been sharing thus far. He has no reason to tell anyone the truth and so far he hasn't hurt anyone just stole a bunch of data from Moon and built a bunker to escape total dimension collapse...He's just a big wild card for me.

Then there's New Moon, He's just actually going crazy after meeting Old Moon. Sun can tell something is wrong with his brother!!! I hope he can help him but spoilers tells me otherwise. The family is trying! Earth heard out Eclipse and Eclipse is getting Earth proof that Moon is currently cray-cray. Lunar is kind of hanging near Sun and Earth because the creator is now actively trying to kidnap him. So much spicy drama.

I don't pay attention much to the Freddy side of the plot but he's also dying?? bro??? What about Francine? The missing mom/wife? Poor Francine's suffering, she needs her mom and dad! I like that Puppet is hanging around her grandchild more it is very sweet. Foxy also got his 'bestfriend' Puppet a house/condo. hmm-Mmmhmm. Definitely no romantic tensions there. Definitely not.

(side bar, I don't ship Kidscove but I do ship the Foxy and Puppet do they have a ship name? Also no hate to Kidscove I just think Foxy treats Sun like a kid a lot. I like the gooseworld Kidscove. Sun laid eggs, so wholesome.)

Lunar is just waiting for news on his trial and I am in suspense hoo boy...Then the stuff with FC being put in a new body and Frank is not happy about it. I def can tell there's big lead up to the astral bodies making a big move I just wonder what the move will be. I feel like now Lunar and FC are going to end up being more intwined then they might think.

Also I love Dazzle!!! AAAGH! She and Jack are so cute! I loved the ep Sun took Dazzle and Lunar to the store that was so sweet. Can't wait to see more of them! They're such a cute dynamic! I like seeing Lunar put his best foot forward to help Dazzle too.

I can tell Moon is slowly distancing himself from the others but it's like this odd thing where he's no longer obsessed with Solar being back per sei...but he's obsessed over how HE has to be the one to bring Solar back in his way because HE promised and he wants to be better then Old Moon and yeah...he's got a very warped perspective I feel like? But Molten and Ruin BOTH pointed out Moon is being possessed by something so I think he's definitely sick? Or something is keeping him from seeing the error of his way.

I do plan to draw Solar and Eclipse and Lord Eclipse next but I'm stuck on what I want to do for Solar's design :P I might make a poll in the future!

I have been writing on and off for over a decade, have I actually finished anything? Next question!

I’ve been loosely active here for about 4 years or so.

I like Magical Girls, JRPG’s, reading (fantasy and urban fantasy and a bit of sci-fi is my comfort zones), listening to art videos and making plenty of playlists only to stop listening to them after a while and never deleting them.

I finished a library technician course! It was a fun course and I’m excited to get into the field… let’s hope the job market and lady luck all works out in my favour.

Don’t ask me about my tbr, I have so much on that list it’s not even funny anymore. I’ll maybe shove a link here to a list I’ll make in the future.

I’m also an artist! I’ll probably present some of my art related to my wips here from time to time.

Genres I write in tend to lean fantasy, be it urban or high or second world, with some sci-fi elements. Supernatural beings are also included and expect the influences of what I like to be present. Queer elements are a feature and will be present in some way.

With the passing of her mother, Rosalie Mills travels to Duskbell Port to be with her siblings and drag them back home to properly mourn their parents. But when she arrives, the city is soon engulfed in serial murders and her siblings are too occupied to give her the time of day. To get their attention, she decides to independently solve this mystery, only to gain the attention of other individuals with either similar or much different goals. Be careful where one looks, it might come back to bite you, literally.

Last year, I wrote this drabble about Rosalie leaving her hometown on a train. This year, I'm expanding it to hopefully try to write a novel? I have too many projects but I'm determined to at least write 10000 words of this one in November 2024. Family Drama, Drama in the City, Relationship Drama, Murder Mystery, vaguely turn of the 1900's inspired and Vampires. The tag is #wip: Departure of Blood or #wip: DoB

To Pierce the Sun’s Veil

Junie’s life has changed since her mother went missing, and it’s about to change again. Her search for her mother has gone nowhere and on the day she gets caught up in an incursion from across the Veil, a new path emerges. A deal with a fae called Iris allows her to transform into the Veiled Hero, Violet Sun. The problem? The fae are the ones behind the incursions. Now she has to work with a team while keeping her deal secret as she tries to accomplish both sides of the deal.

This started out as an idea of retelling Rapunzel but as magical girls, it has evolved since then but the initial inspiration is still somewhat there. The name may change at some point though. Name shenanigans are abound, as there are True Names and Public Names, as well as Veiled Names (this last one is specifically for Veiled Heroes). Urban Fantasy that holds inspiration from the magical girl shows I’ve watched growing up, featuring 18 to 20 somethings figuring out adjusting to adulthood on top of the magical fights. The World of Astral Rezellia

Adva Helio only wishes to find those she cares about and get away from the conflict that’s slowly enveloping the nations of Astral Rezellia. Yet as she finds one, she loses another and is forced to flee to find new allies and is forced into the very conflict she would rather not get that involved in.

Previous names include, The Nameless Constellation, Academy of Stars and Astral Sanctuary Academy. A fantasy story very much initially started out of spite towards Fate The Winx Saga’s choices and very much transformed into its own thing inspired more by a general love for the kinds of adventures found in JRPG’s. I might put angst in the fic itself, but I don't usually leave it in an angsty place. I suppose overall the angstiest fics ending-wise would be the Doggett/Reyes fics I wrote in X Files, probably because that was kind of the mood of the show.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I haven't really written any non-happy ending fics, and to classify one as "happiest" after 300+ stories over 20 years is pretty much impossible, sorry. Oh wait, in Defenders of the Realm (linked below) Merlin and Arthur save millions of people so I guess I'd pick that one. ;)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I haven't gotten hate specifically; I've shown my ass once or twice over the years and been called out for it, and I've apologized and corrected where possible. And lately with 9-1-1 I've had the odd person upset about the actions of a character in a couple of my fics, but it's not that they think the actions are out of character. It almost seems as though they don't want characters to ever do things that are personally frustrating or upsetting to them even if those actions make sense for that character in that situation? It's odd, but thankfully it's been pretty rare.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yep. I've written a wide variety of stuff over the years. Even straight people getting it on! :D

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I don't really care if I have.

Yes, several times! I'm always so amazed that someone took the time to do that.

Yes, though not recently; it used to happen a lot more in the good ol' days of LiveJournal.

I couldn't even begin to pick. So many men, so little time. When I'm in the throes of fandom love, that's my favourite.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have one Merlin WIP up on AO3 that still bothers me from time to time, but I'm not sure I'll ever get back to it because I just got mired in a plot dead end and saw no way out. I also have over 10000 words of an OFMD modern AU, but again, I hit a point where I realized I had no idea how to end it so I hit the brakes at the end of act one.

I would say characterization, and making an effort to research and try my best to work the location or the culture of the characters into a story in an authentic way.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Plot-heavy stories are not my favourite thing - I can do it but I'd rather write basic bitch romcoms. And you're not going to get the most original shit ever from me - my writing is not gourmet cuisine, it's comfort food.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Research, and/or have a beta who speaks that language.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Oh god, I think it was either V or Adderly, a very Canadian show from the 80s. Those were written on high school foolscap and will never see the light of day.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Again, it's really hard to pick one after all these years. Just a few random fics I have soft spots for: Auld Lang Syne (due South), Refugee Status (Sentinel), The Road to Nevada (SGA), Defenders of the Realm (Merlin), And We'll Talk in Present Tenses (Lewis), Skin Deep (I Spy), From a Rut to a Groove (Die Hard), and too many heartbeats for one ribcage (911).

3. (What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer?)

Hi! Lol I do that sometimes too. I'm excited for these questions!

3. (What's something you learned about yourself as a writer?)

I write better when I write without judgment. I used to pour painstakingly over my fics and weed out anything that could be ‘too much’ or ‘weird’. When I did that I ended up with pieces I half loved. Things I wanted to add to but didn’t because I didn’t want it to be ‘too complicated’ and I was too afraid to be too vulnerable or project too much. This year has really helped me stop second guessing if I should add that detail or if it’s too close to home or if people don’t like or get it. I’m always going to hope people like what I write but I’m more in love with my own writing when it is exactly what I want and not pieces of what I want. I’ve stopped judging myself as much (I’m my own worst critic) and things have been so much more fun. I’ve learned that writing comes easy when I don’t judge the page before it is written. If I overthink it doesn’t get written and it sits in my WIP folder. I’m here to have fun and I think a lot of what I’ve written really shows that which is something I’m proud of.

Also that I like the pain almost as much as the soft stuff. I like the fluff to feel so earned it’s like a warm hug. Like it’s something the character has been waiting so long for they really just have to accept it is something they deserve. And there’s bound to be a lot of suffering before that happens but the payoff when a character has been in pain for so long and they finally get to be safe and taken care of???? That is something I will always love.

26. (If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year?)

Honestly. It wasn’t even something I have on Ao3 yet. It’s actually when I officially finished outlining the third fic in the Calling Me Home series (which now has a name - The World Tumbles Down). I’ve been planning this fic since before the second one was posted and I wasn’t ever going to commit to a third story if I wasn’t 10000% sure of my plot. I was so frustrated towards the middle of Keep These Shadows Out that I was genuinely convinced the third fic was a mess that couldn’t be fixed. One day my partner and I spent almost four hours re-outlining the third fic and it finally came together and felt like a complete story instead of a loose idea on a page. It felt like the right way to end it. It felt like I’d finally filled in the gaps and given it the attention it deserved. That was such a relief for me that I still think about it when I’m overwhelmed. It was very rewarding to feel like I could wrap it all up well and not feel like it would fall flat. The notes for that story expand every time I write (and it’s looooooong rn) but getting that outline done and having it really hit the mark never fails to make me feel proud. Really gets me. I’m genuinely so excited to share it in a few months (and am working on packing just… as much fluff as possible into it. Let’s face it. These characters deserve it after everything I’ve put them through.)

👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!

Eeee this is perfect timing, anon! I was actually planning to share this yesterday today anyways, because I know I kind of fell off the face of the earth (writing-wise) after finishing UTNL back in February, and I've been dying to get back to it. So thank you for the opportunity 😁 💕

I have a few WIPs right now, but the main one I've been focusing on is a story that I actually started writing a little over a year ago! It's one of those situations where I wrote a few thousand words on a whim, had the plot and backstory mostly planned out, thought it would just be a long oneshot...but then once I started fleshing it out, it grew far beyond what I originally planned. Now I've got 11 chapters mapped out, and currently have 25-30k words written (which is probably less than half of what the final word count will end up being😅).

I'm going to put the summary and current list of tags here, and then will include more background info plus a small snippet below the cut for anyone who might be interested! ✨

Summary: When Kagome Higurashi returned to her family’s vacation home the summer after graduating high school, she never expected to be reunited with Inuyasha, her former best friend who disappeared from her life five years earlier. Now all grown up, their attempts to rekindle their childhood friendship are complicated by physical attraction, building on memories of preteen crushes and a “pretty much perfect” first kiss. After a summer of fun that blurs the lines between friendship, sex, and love, how will they fare when it comes time to leave for college on opposite sides of the country?

A little bit of background:

The main inspiration for this story comes from the summers I spent in Maine as a kid. I would go stay at my grandparent's cottage, located in a super tiny town on a secluded oceanfront street. There were a handful of other homes on the road that were usually rented by the same families, so all of us kids would get together and play every year. I never had any kind of romance or even as close a friendship as is portrayed in this story, but I figured it could definitely happen (along the line of kids who make lifelong friends at summer camp)

An important part of this story is that Inuyasha and Kagome grew up during a similar time frame I did, when technology was only just starting to become integrated into everyone's lives. So the first chapter is set in 2008, when they are 18, and the story then spans across several years (with plenty of references/flashbacks to growing up in the 90s along the way)

Normally, the key driving force behind childhood-best-friends-to-lovers stories is both of them thinking that the other only sees them as a friend/sibling figure, which leads to hardcore pining until they realize they actually both feel the same. Which I freaking LOVE. I will read 10000 stories exactly like that and eat it up every single time. But I wondered what would happen if both characters knew (at least on some level) that they share some kind of romantic feelings for each other, but there is something else keeping them from being in a committed romantic relationship

The idea behind the title, as well as the other inspiration for this story, is that I wanted to explore a scenario where Kagome and Inuyasha happened to be each other's firsts for several romantic milestones (first crush, first kiss, first time having sex), but still have plenty of other experiences with other people and don't get actually together until later on in life (despite being in love)

I actually didn't discover this song until I was pretty far along in the writing process, but it's uncanny how perfectly the lyrics of 2002 by Anne Marie fit with this story! (Yes, there will be a playlist for this fic)

And finally, a small snippet! (This is not even the part I wanted to share, but when I tell you that words have not been my friend lately... 😑. I sat there and struggled to edit a piece of one of the key scenes into something I felt comfortable posting, but after two days I finally decided to just give up for now and share a rough part of a random flirty scene that I hope you still enjoy!)

Carrying their ice cream back to where Inuyasha was leaning against the counter, Kagome immediately noticed that he seemed even grumpier than usual with his eyes narrowed, arms crossed, and jaw set. He had been in a pretty good mood when they first arrived, so the sudden change certainly threw her for a loop.

“What’s your problem?” she asked in a casual manner as she held out his cone. He took it with a mumbled thanks before returning to glaring at the horizon and tapping his foot.

She waited patiently for him to answer while they began eating, watching him with eyebrows raised towards her hairline the entire time.

“You shouldn’t flirt with wolf demons like that,” he finally grumbled. “They aren’t exactly known for being overly respectful of women.”

“I wasn’t flirting.” Kagome rolled her eyes, torn between annoyance and amusement. “It’s called being friendly. Which I know is a foreign concept for you, but —”

Inuyasha cut her off with a quiet growl. “I’m just sayin’, it’d be pretty easy for him to get the wrong idea.”

“And what idea would that be?”

“I dunno…that you wanna follow him home and have his babies or something.”

“And what if that was the idea I wanted him to get?” Kagome challenged with a raised brow, having to press her lips together to keep from laughing at the look of pure shock and betrayal that lit up Inuyasha’s features.

“With that idiot?”

“How do you know he’s an idiot?”

“Because I — I can just tell.”

“Mhmm,” she hummed in mock contemplation. It was far too easy to mess with him. “Kinda sounds to me like you’re jealous…”

“What?” Inuyasha’s eyes briefly widened before looking away, his cheeks flushing a deep red. “I ain’t jealous…just think you could do better."

He was not jealous.

He also had not been watching the borderline sensual way Kagome’s tongue swirled around her ice cream cone to catch any drips that threatened to fall.

Which definitely did not inspire a slew of dirty thoughts revolving around what else she could do with her tongue.

Nope. None of those things were happening.

I have two kinky erotica one-shots that I have a good amount written for, one JJK Sukufushi pwp and one 5+1 porn-with-plot Elena of Avalor fic (...I started a rewatch and Esteban promptly broke my brain, it's. been a thing). Barring that I bang out something short on tumblr or twitter (like my most recent fic, keep the king) in like an hour, or something else doesn’t unexpectedly overtake my life, one of those will go up next.

For the back burner… oh, god, so many things.

I have three fics planned for next Mermay, two of which are short (a Critical Role M9 fic that will not take much work to finish, and would’ve been done this year if Our Flag Means Death hadn’t seized me by the throat and consumed my life, and a TAZ: Ethersea fic, which I have planned out and I’m just waiting to write out and publish closer to the month). The third is a longform Witcher geraskefer fic that I uhhhhh sort of promised would be published this past May, but then grad school and ofmd happened and it Simply Was Not Finished. But I am very much hoping to get it done for next year.

There are two BNHA fics — one dabihawks, one postcanon future fic that I was writing for Banned Together Bingo and didn't finish in time — that I have a shit ton written for but may or may not ever see the light of day due to starting them before/during the first war arc and now they’re really not canon compliant anymore, and I’d have to do a lot of work to make them a more deliberate canon divergence, and just… idk if it will ever happen. Also because, frankly, ime BNHA fandom sucks to post fic in. Your fic just gets buried in the first ten minutes and I feel like the comments to kudos ratio is particularly bad. So I’d be doing a shit ton of work just for nobody to care about it if I bothered to share it.

I do fully intend to write another TAZ: Balance fic about Lup to turn Without Mercy and Without Blame into a triptych that covers all the birds. I lost part of my drafting for that unfortunately so it's just getting up the energy to rewrite it. Also in the vein of incomplete series, I will not feel done with in the quiet of his mind until I have at least written the forest kiss and "get away"; and I would be absolutely remiss not to do an epistolary Charon/Hermes fic for The Many Layers of Life and Death. None of those things are imminent, but they've been percolating in my head long enough that I think I will eventually get to them, it's just anyone's guess when.

And then there’s the WIPs.

Both The Way You Said I Love You and Written in Sand I have substantial swathes of the rest of the fic written for. For WiS, at this point, I’m waiting until I’ve chipped away and finished the whole fic so that when I finally do come back, I can just post chapters once a week and not go on another years long hiatus. For TWYSILU I’m just blocked on part of this specific chapter and I need to get back to it whenever my brain stops hating me about it. They 10000% are not abandoned and will not be, I am just slow.

I did not. Uh. Intend to post a single chapter of If I’m Not Back Again and immediately stop, but. Life. The current plan for that one is that I’ll write more when Good Omens S2 drops.

And if you go REALLY far back in my Ao3 you’ll find The Green Hunter, which I honestly make zero promises for, that one’s on an “if inspiration strikes” basis.

The only unfinished published fic I have that definitely will not be finished is Long Lost, and even that isn’t abandoned as such — whenever I finish WiS, I want to move over to a significant rewrite of Long Lost to scratch the Voltron itch without being forced to engage with canon. But WiS is the priority.

995596 - just a few more ficlets or 1 longer fic, and I've got a Million! Hey, maybe I should try to write one with... 4404? (I'd need to ask a calculator xD) words exactly... not rly a hardship with how many drabble exercises (exact wordcounts, 100 is the most used, I also do 200, 500, longest was 10000 exactly lol) I've already done... we'll see!

Over 400k for this year alone, and over half of that is my actual writing (not translations etc), I'm so proud! Last year I only barely hit 200k and that included a lot of translating work

Again, one could look this up in my works filtered - sorted by kudos? But all three of my incubus!jaskier witcher series are in it, part 2 of the series is highest with 1091 kudos, then a Venom halloween oneshot, and 'Belonging', a fluffy snake-crowley piece from my ineffable spouses series (yes, sth with under 1k words - 666 to be exact - is in the top 5... my poor longfics lol)

...I try to? But atm I have 202 unanswered (and I always click 'mark read' on replies so these are all comments on my own fic) even tho I told myself I'd not let it get past 200, and now I'm doing a tag meme instead of replying to anything so ummmm

But not only is that very much a case of ~posting a draft version that's barely in complete sentences insgead of taking the time to turn it into a real longfic~, I also just killed off the mlm couple I only semi care about and left the wlw couple with a happy/hopeful (rly don't remember) ending, so... hm idk whether that counts for angsty ending

Apart from that... I dunno, I just prefer my babies to be happy and fluffy? *.* i remember a mirror milippa in the mirrorverse one where in the end Michael is worried about lying to Philippa about her identity... there are some angsty TOG and Gomens ones but I think they end happy-ish (my memory is. Bad. but looking through my 'angst' tag I just saw a lot of h/c and 'angst with a happy ending')

Not in the sense of pretending someone else wrote it (that i know of), but posted to other sites without my permission - writing 'don't repost to other sites' etc did Not help, they even copied those tags lol, so I just let it be, choosing my battles wisely etcetc, I'd prefer for my fic not to be cross-posted by others bc then I can't edit or otherwise influence the fic anymore and don't see everyone's reactions to it, but as long as it's not someone pretending they wrote it, I only semi care, not enough to fight it tbh

There are many ways to go about it, and I think they all work (depending on the fic and the length and relevance of the dialogue)

I tend to leave single sentences as is, and for longer and important sequences use cursive and 'they said in xylanguage'.

The Hobbit apparently? I remember thinking that fic was so long lol, it's 3k

TOG Andromaquynh longfic In Your Stead has had the title since last year and probably for a while to come! I write a lot of angst but not much of angsty endings to be honest. NottPott Chronicles Theo is pretty angsty and anxious but I always somehow end up with fluff at the end.

Maybe Journey To Understanding? It has sort of bittersweet happy ending.

Just the Catch-22 one and it's not much of a crossover, it's more of a heavy AU where HP characters are thrown into John Heller's world.

I did some on Arrow in the Air but nothing horrendous.

I did receive a lot of hate on I Don't Care Collab from the troll terrorising entire Drarry Fandom at the time. Some pretty nasty stuff too.

So, like, back in the day, I wrote self-insert Sailor Moon fanfiction (I know, I know), but the only stuff that’s still up is Final Fantasy VII fic (including one on FFN that hasn’t been taken down solely because someone favorited it and, as someone who always gets bummed when a favorite fic vanishes, it’s forever up as a result) and Riverdale fic.

I do my best to, but, uh, I’m not great at it in terms of timeliness (I’ve certainly got some that have been sitting waiting for a response for months, and I’ll get to them eventually, I promise).  I’d like to think I’m pretty good at responding with substance though, when I finally get around to it.  Like, if you name a specific part you like, I will give you too much insight into that part.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Well, (ain’t it good to know) you’ve got a friend was originally going to have a very angsty ending, but a.) I changed that after a discussion with my friend and b.) it’s not finished anyway lol.  So, I guess wet dreams may come?  Like, I end it with a reference to that scene in End of Evangelion (because I had the opportunity for a parallel and it also shows Jughead’s opinion of himself, even though his actions are harmless, whereas Shinji’s...well.), and that’s pretty angsty, yeah?

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I mean, only three of them have endings, so (day)dreams come true, probably, because its ending is just very sweet (the third fic with an ending, Cancelled Plans, has a comedic end, so it doesn’t really qualify in the first place).

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

Not normally, but I have written a mashup with the Lovecraft mythos, specifically as seen in the Arkham Horror boardgame; it’s The Looming Fog and Other Strange Happenings, and it is by default the craziest one I’ve written.

Nope.  I fly pretty under the radar.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yup.  When you include incomplete/unpublished stuff, probably like 40-50% of stuff I write will contain some kind of smut because I find it sexy, fun, and intimate, and I’d say it’s...explicit?  I’m prone to writing dirty talk, mainly, because I will forever love writing dialogue and think in terms of it; also, the fics I’ve published (and like two other incomplete fics that haven’t been published) skirt around portraying the actual act of sex from the POV of the ones having sex.  Idk, that part’s really hard for me (no pun intended).

I don’t think so.

Nope.

I like to think I’m good at dialogue because I generally think in dialouge, but ymmv.

What’s your writing weaknesses?

Description and introspection, tbh, basically anything other than dialogue.  It’s just not how I think, so it often is something I have to fill in.  I generally have a solid picture in my head of what, exactly, is happening, but getting it down in words in a way that isn’t awkward af is v challenging for me.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think you should avoid it if you can.  I think it’s best to adhere to Megatokyo’s strategy of putting any dialogue in another language in brackets (either [] or <>) to show that it’s in another language; you still get the meaning, with no footnotes, and you don’t have to hunt down a native speaker and ask them to help write the dialogue correctly in another language or make the decision over whether to include end/foot notes with the translations.  I do allow for some foreign language terms in dialogue, but then I think I mainly allow that in Naruto fic, and it’s mainly grandfathered in from years of fandom.  Like, it’d be super weird to see a fic talk about techniques and not jutsu, y’know?  And is there anything more awkward than an “upperclassmen” in place of “senpai”?

What’s the first fandom you wrote for?

Sailor Moon, but the first non-self insert stuff was Final Fantasy VII.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I think (day)dreams come true is the best fic I’ve written, hands down.  It has the strongest emotional core and emotional progression.  I also just really like the ending.  But there are also a few lines and moments in other fics that I’m really pleased with; for example, the lunch conversation in chapter three of (ain’t it good to know) you’ve got a friend is one of my absolute favorite things I’ve written.

Oh my gosh, anon. I got this after I was already in bed and had to wait until I was in front of my computer to answer because... well. I have ~150 David/Patrick fics bookmarked and those are only the ones I reread a lot, lmao. 

So! I haven’t recced an author more than once (take it as read that you should read everything by all these people lol), and I’ve tried not to rec the super super popular fics (you don’t need me to tell you to read A Fair Return). So with that in mind, in no particular order and with full acknowledgement that I will probably miss a whole heap of equally amazing ones:

Railed and Derailed by @kiranerys42 [rated E, 1177 words] Look, I love me some smut. But I also love me some coitus interruptus, especially when it comes in the form of an overly pedantic lecture.

And we lay nocturnal, speculate what we feel by EggplantSalad [rated E, 4202 words] And of course, the fic that inspired the above. AKA, how it goes down when you DON’T interrupt the hot sex you’re having for a lecture. This one is pure unadulterated filth, in the best possible way.

All I Want For Christmas Is You by @houdini74 [rated E, 7340 words] The concept and the execution of this fic are both delightful. It’s juuuuuuuust angsty enough without it being too painful to read as Christmas fluff -- my favourite kind.

One Single Thread of Gold by @theswiftiewholived [rated G, 8244 words] This was one of the standouts of Sports Fest, in my opinion, and it’s the author’s first Schitt’s Creek story! Such a cute twist on canon, I was sucked in by every word.

10000-24999 words: 

Husbands: Two Years In by @unfolded73 [rated E, 24461 words] I’m not sure I’ve ever felt so seen by a piece of fanfiction as I was by this one. This fic deals with depression in a nuanced, compassionate, and incredibly realistic way and though it was only published last month, I’m pretty confident I’ll be rereading it a lot. ❤️ 

I don’t gamble but if I did I’d bet on us by @ships-to-sail [rated T, 23513 words] Meet cute? Check. AU that weaves canon in beautifully? Check. All the teasing and banter we’ve come to expect from these two? Check check. This fic has so much heart and is a fantastic pick-me-up whenever I’m feeling down.

25000-49999 words: 

make it to me by @rosesdavid [rated T, 25452 words] AKA, The Epistolary Zombie Fic. I recommend this everywhere and for good reason. Epistolary is SO HARD to pull off in a way that makes you actually give a crap about the characters but this is just... 25,000 words of David and Patrick meeting and falling in love over text, and what’s not to love about that? I read this as a WIP and was super invested, but now that it’s finished everyone I recommend it to gets a less stressful experience than I did. (PS: @rosesdavid?? I’m still here begging for a sequel 😂) 

Nothing good gets away by @julywonder [rated T, 34290 words] Another one that I read in real time even though it made me ache in the best way. The author has tagged this “David’s emotional growth” and that is basically my favourite thing on the planet, I will devour all the words related to that. It was particularly easy to devour these words, though, because both the story and the storytelling are stunning.

Push and Pull by @samwhambam [rated E, 63570 words] I am a simple woman. You say enemies to lovers, I say gimme. You say samwhambam, I also say gimme. This is a good combination.

I Carry These Heart-Shapes Only to You by @ladyflowdi and @ships-to-sail [rated E, 180475 words] Okay, I said I wasn’t going to rec the super popular ones, but this gets an exception because I genuinely think it might have changed me as a person. This is one of those stories that is written so well it kind of makes you never want to write again. There are lines from this fic that I could tattoo on my soul. I genuinely don’t have the words to describe what this meant to me (trust me, I tried to tell the authors and just ended up capslock flailing and sobbing).

I’d Swing with You for the Fences by @danverses [rated E, 5/13 chapters published, 37487 words so far] Y’all. Y’ALL. If you’re not reading along with this RUN, DON’T WALK. It features the cutest of meet-cutes and the most delightful story!!!

2020 Language Goal Review

Given tomorrow is technically week 1 of 2021, I figured now would be a good time to review my 2020 goals. I actually kinda scrapped them because I decided they were too vague and I didn’t even care about them really, but I thought I’d do a review anyway.

My 2020 goals were:

Improve my confidence with both speaking and writing (particularly speaking)

Finish reading all the books I currently have

Write 5000 10000 words of fiction in Norwegian (not necessarily all the same story)

Overall aim: pull all my skills up to a comfortable B2 level and test this by taking Norskprøve B1/B2 in Autumn or Winter

So, here’s how I feel I did!

1. This was vague af and I figured it’s impossible to measure, but actually, there are two things that attest to the fact I nailed this:

I happily write more posts in Norwegian, and sometimes I don’t even proofread them (and then have to go back and fix various dumb mistakes, but I’ve noticed those are getting fewer and fewer. Anyway, the point is, my confidence has improved)

I took up @hopehav on her offer to chat with me in Norwegian after literally years of going nOOOoo I am not Worthy

I also feel like if someone asked me if I speak Norwegian this time last year, my answer would have been “ehh I kinda understand it but I don’t really speak it”. Whereas now it’s more like “yes but not well/fluently”. I think that’s probably an upgrade!

2. I’ve still not read Harry Potter og Føniksordenen. But I did read Harry Potter og De Vises Stein (which I found free online) and another book that I didn’t have at the start of the year. Combined, they’re about the same number of pages as Harry Potter og Føniksordenen. So, in a way, I did actually hit this goal.

3. Yeahhh sorta smashed this one. I’m currently on 14.3K, plus another 1000 words of a translated WIP and 1000 words of planning. True, I don’t write anything particularly complicated or difficult, but I had fun!

4. Honestly idk what CEFR level I am atm and I’m not even sure I care. I feel like I’m closer to B2 now than B1 now, and I feel like my reading skills at least are close-ish to C1. I’ve been told a number of times I’m not as far off C1 as I think I am, but I’m not convinced lol. Obviously I didn’t get to take the test because of corona, but maybe next year I’ll do it, just to prove to myself that I’m at least B2. We’ll see though - it depends where in the world I am and what my finances are like.

2021 Goals?

I have some ideas for some goals, but I know they’ll probably change as my plans change. I’m still hoping to get a job teaching English abroad. I’d love to go to Japan, which will mean studying Japanese more intensively and maintaining Norwegian rather than trying to improve for a bit. If I can’t get a job in Japan, I might have to apply for jobs in a European country, and of course I’d then want to learn the language of the country I’d be going to live in. But then, I might not go abroad at all, and then I’d just continue learning Norwegian and probably Japanese for a while at least.

I’ll probably make a post outlining some goals in time for the 31st, but they certainly won’t be set in stone!

This is a lovely little peek into Chloe’s reaction.  She’s somewhat thrown for a loop and initially pulls back, but as she slowly regains her footing in this new reality, the repeated refrain of “she does not miss Lucifer” becomes increasingly full of denial.  Charming!

I’m listing these two stories together because they’re a series of sorts.  The first story is told from Trixie’s POV, which is a great use of dramatic irony.  Because of how the story is constructed, the reader knows far more about what’s going on that Trixie does, which prompts a bit of puzzle solving on the part of the reader, and the result is lovely.  The second story is told from Lucifer’s POV, waking up in the aftermath.  The last few lines in particular are heart-wrenching and perfect.

An_earl has a lovely, lyrical style of writing that’s captivating.  I enjoyed reading about Chloe, now in the know, considering past events in a new light.  Also, delicious angst so thick you could cut it with a knife.

This story starts with Chloe and Lucifer at odds, but the ice is gradually broken via the use of text messages, which is something I can intimately relate with because I’ve lived it (not the Devil reveal, obviously, but social anxiety that was resolved in a similar way).  This was the first story I read in my current “binge,” and I was captivated from start to finish.  Lovely angst, and the ending will make your heart soar.

A lovely, more light-hearted approach to the “aftershocks” of S3E24.  Chloe deals with being “in the know,” and the gang deals with fixing the mess left behind by Cain.  Lots of humorous touches and great lines, to include everybody quickly being brought into the Lucifer is Lucifer loop.

A series, currently of three works.  I haven’t yet had the opportunity to read the third piece, but the first two are a delight.  Poor Chloe is trying desperately to keep up with her new reality, and failing woefully at every turn.  Meanwhile, in the second story, Lucifer and Maze perpetrate some of the most hysterical sniping and snark at each other that I’ve ever read.  And, of course, there’s M.V.P. Linda, a perennial presence in both stories, trying to referee this whole mess.  I have so much love for this series!

I normally don’t read AUs, particularly not “all human” ones, but this story was basically a giant, “Oh, really?” that proved me wrong at every turn.  I loved this.  Theleafpile has a lyrical, poetic, enchanting writing style that will suck you right in and refuse to let you go, and even with the setting so vastly altered, all of the canonical characters were instantly recognizable and believable in their new incarnations.  Beautiful angst.  Creative storytelling.  Do pay attention to the tags, but absolutely worth a read (or nine).

A gorgeous established-relationship fic.  Lucifer hasn’t said those big three words, yet, and Chloe is starting to agonize over why that might be.  All of her friends provide her with examples that show, while Lucifer might not say it, he feels it.  Perfect use of ensemble.  Great balance of fluff and angst.  If pining is your happy-place trope, this fic is so for you.

Suuuper dark, haunting look at Lucifer as a punisher, which also puts Chloe in an interesting light as she gets sucked into enabling Lucifer’s eye-for-an-eye form of justice.

As you all have probably figured out, I am a complete sucker for Lucifer characterizations that fully incorporate the idea that he’s about … a zillion million years old, and has Seen Some Shit (™).  Set in a nebulous time period where Chloe knows the truth, Chloe and Lucifer make a go at dating, and the results are enchanting to read.  Angsty, humorous, heartwarming, sad, lovely, all in one fic, all in perfect balance.

In which Trixie has a nightmare, and Lucifer makes it better.  Just a quick little shot of wingfic fluff that was adorable :)  Guaranteed to make you smile!

Stars by @tarysande

A beautiful, heart-wrenching, heartwarming, sweet, sad character piece that examines Lucifer through Trixie’s eyes.  Deals with Lucifer’s more mythic aspects, namely that he created the stars, with a perfect ending.  Tarysande’s writing style is so easy-to-read and lyrical; I only wish I could replicate it.

Another Lucifer & Trixie centric piece that I just love, in which Lucifer disdainfully asks of Linda: “What’s the point of ... hugging?”  Beautifully written look at Lucifer warming up a bit to “the offspring,” and to some of the more touchy-feely quirks of humanity in general.  Lovely Deckerstar moments as well.  The_wanlorn’s characterization of Lucifer (and everyone really) is perfect, and your heart will be so full by the end of this one.

City of Fallen Angels by Endelda & NostalgiaKick

A quirky crossover between Lois & Clark: the New Adventures of Superman, and Lucifer.  Set near the end of S1 in Lois & Clark, and near the end of S3 in Lucifer.  The author draws some really interesting parallels between the characters of both shows in this charming, thoughtful piece.  Technically not a WIP, as it is finished, but it is being posted episodically.

If you like Lucifer & Ella friendship, and want to read more world building a la ATWL, this might be a read for you!  The author has chosen to bring in some elements from the comics that are, thus far, super intriguing.  My interest is piqued!

This fic!  I have yet to see a more gripping, thoughtful, atmospheric examination of the S3E24 aftermath -- this story delves into the forensics of the crime scene, and the FBI investigation into Cain’s murder.  NOTE: This fic is Lucifer/Dan as the primary ship, so exclusive Deckerstar fans beware, but even if Lucifer/Dan isn’t really your jam, I highly recommend this story for the main plot elements alone.  Sincerely, read this.  It’s worth it.
