Startled by the alchemist’s sudden appearance you let out a small yelp of surprise.

“Holy god.. you scared the living daylights out of me” you say while putting your hand on your heart to show your sincerity.

“I apologize, traveler. I couldn’t help but be.. captivated, by your appearance. Is it alright if I sketch you?” He says looking at your with a blank expression despite telling you of his interest in your appearance.

“S-sure.. can I at least get your name?” You inquire. Of course you know who he was, he’s Albedo! For gods sake your heart rate spiked the moment you saw him creep up on you. The fake surprise was to make it seem like you didn’t notice him at all. It was better this way.

“My name is Albedo, chief alchemist of the knights of favonius. It’s a pleasure meeting you, and what’s your name traveler?” He gently asks as he pulls out his sketch pad.

“My name is y/n, might i ask how long your sketch will take? I’m kinda in a rush.” You sheepishly smile at him. Of course you’re in a rush. In a rush to get away from him!

“It’ll only take 10 minutes. While my drawing cannot capture your full.. essence, it’s better than forgetting such a unique appearance.” He says smoothly a little proud of himself for managing to stall a little more time with you. Truthfully, he could’ve finish a sketch of you in 3 minutes if he wanted to, but there was something about you that made him want to selfishly keep you to himself.

Blushing a bit from his complements you stay completely still for him to finish his sketch while glancing away from him every now and then to get rid of your flustered expression.

striking a conversation with albedo was surprisingly easy, during the ten minutes he managed to find out what your favorite foods were and what type of flowers you adored. He was quite the smooth talker. Ten times as smooth as his teapot dialogue.

as the ten minutes quickly pass albedo gives the sketch of you the final touches. “I’m finished. Would you like to see the results?” He inquires a little hopeful that you’d be willing to see the fruits of his effort.

“Of course!” You smile at him gleefully. You’ve never gotten a portrait of yourself before so it was a bit thrilling to see how someone drew you, nonetheless the great albedo himself!

Turning his sketch pad he shows a picture like drawing of you, your eyes and smile jarringly similar to the reflection you saw of yourself on the glass pains of little shops you’d walk by.

“It’s lovely. It’s almost like staring in the mirror!” You complement your worries of spending to much time with him out the window as your now distracted by his magnificent sketch.

“I’m glad you think so Y/n.” He gently says, his stomach feeling little flutters here and there from your sweet words. He almost felt.. human in a sense. Something he never thought he’d feel as a creation made of chalk.

“If it ever occurs, maybe once you’re free. We could perhaps go for a meal? You’re quite an interesting person and I’d like to get to know you better.” He says calmly despite his nervousness of being rejected.

“Oh, uh sure. Maybe once I’m free” you repeat to him with a kind smile. Although you know it’s not the best idea to get tangled with albedo especially since he’s a creation of someone from Khaenri'ah you couldn’t help but feel a little guilty if you declined his offer.

“I really must go now Albedo. It was nice getting to meet you.” You say to him with sincerity as you get up from the bench stretching a little from how long you were sitting.

“It was nice meeting you as well, Y/n.” Albedo says and waves as you start to walk down the steps to the town square. Unknown to you, Albedo couldn’t help but feel a little upset of your quick leave as he watches you disappear into the crowd.

as you began to walk back out into crowds you realize it’s almost 5 pm. You sure took your time walking up to the cathedral.

You usually would eat dinner at this time so your stomach began to grumble a bit. Noticing your stomach’s little cry of hunger you decided to stop by good hunter and get a sweet madam to go. while waiting, you decided to brainstorm where to stay for the night, cause your sure as hell not sleeping in the open where anyone could cut you and see your blood.

mm.. maybe angle’s share? There is an extra room for drunkards willing to pay to stay for the night.. but that would mean you would have to get a drink. Maybe they serve grape juice! It’s been your favorite since you were 5. Yea, maybe staying in angle share’s is a good idea after all!

standing up from your seat, you go up to the counter and pay for your take out. let’s head to the tavern!

So obviously it's still too early to properly analyze the exact relationship dynamic between Jax and Gangle in canon. I promise this is less of me trying to find legitimate proof of any character speculations, and more just a string of very quick, messy personal thoughts on the topic. Context and motivation for their behaviors are likely to be explained in future episodes, and until then there's still quite a lot of uncharted territory left to explore. (Although I will say that both these characters are surprisingly more active and engaging with each other upon rewatch. aka, their willingness to be around one another seems mutual, the bullying is not.)

The only information that we can currently gather about Gangle are her canon appearances, the preview screenshot Glitch posted on the official account and to a lesser extent, Gangle's concept art sketches: Alot of it being about her fixation and dependency towards her comedy mask. We don't know whether she's fixated on the actual sensation being happy 24/7 or just the ability to appear joyful around everybody else just yet, or What her real-world equivalent of the mask was, or even if there ever was a real-world equivalent to begin with. But, Personal indictment is that she does genuinely want long term companionship and meaningful connections with other people. Or at the very least, not be subtly ostracized out of social convention. I think she believes that curating her outward demeanor might change the way others perceive her, and hopefully the way they interact with her as well. It doesn't really help that each of the circus crew are all a bit too much in their own heads to notice, one way or another. Even if they do mean well at the end of the day, it's never quite what she's really looking to accomplish. (It also doesn't help that her digital design is so detached from being human either, she's essentially a flat face on a piece of string. One can't really blame her for trying to make the most of what she's able to display tbh.)

So far, we know Jax is apathetic, violent and generally antagonistic towards everyone in the main cast, sometimes deliberately towards the girls. I think it isn't all that farfetched to believe he latched on to Gangle because she was malleable enough to target without facing most of the consequences. Subsequently, there's also the idea of him relating Gangle's tragedy mask to her willingness to comply: It's an emotional vulnerability for her (She already sees herself as less deserving of human interaction in this state, she won't have anyone else to go to, she doesn't seem to like being left alone). It's not farfetched to assume Jax sees the tragedy mask as a more "complied version" of Gangle, more entertaining and easier to string along. Me thinks he prefers it, but again. It's too soon to tell. Anyways something something designated role in group activities something something internalized self-worth I think Gangle and Ragatha have very similar philosophies when it comes to people pleasing and it almost makes me believe in the theory that they secretly don't get along even more.

(btw plz feel absolutely no pressure to respond to any of this at all - Again, very messy thoughts that I barely had time to collect. Ribbun is an unexpected infection with unfortunately very thought consuming brain fodder to me personally. Have a nice day.

I like these thoughts! It'll be really interesting to see how the Comedy and Tragedy masks work for Gangle.

I do agree Jax probably prefers Tragedy Gangle as even if it's only as deep as "she's funnier like that." And Gangle is the easiest victim for him in that state.

We've seen everyone (but Kinger, who Jax kind of doesn't bother too much, and you could argue it's because Kinger doesn't give an entertaining reaction) fight back against Jax's behavior in some way. Ragatha yells at him, Zooble isn't afraid to get physical, and we can tell Pomni had death on her mind when he threw her off the truck. The most Gangle has done is timidly resist for a few seconds before compiling. Steps on her mask, pushes her, grabs her and puts her in the drivers seat, she doesn't say anything.

She has a couple of bite back words, but then Jax just bites back and it shuts her down. Which is interesting because when Ragatha yells at him it's clear he thinks its funny and merely snarks back at her, often getting her to yell more. He gets different reactions out of everyone in the group and picks different entertainment from that. Gangle might be the one he knows he has proper control over.

As for the Ragatha and Gangle thing, I was really interested in the fact no one cared when Gangle broke her mask in the pilot, not even Ragatha who is our outwardly most caring. You could say it's because she had tunnel vision on Pomni, but I immediately interpreted it as, yeah Gangle's mask breaks all the time, she's crying all the time, eventually people stop caring. The boy who cried wolf, etc etc.

Even if Ragatha doesn't have direct conflict with Gangle, the fact Ragatha is someone who internalizes everything, and projects a positive outlook, I imagine someone like Gangle would make her pretty uncomfortable.

Here Ragatha is trying her darnest to keep it together and remain positive, meanwhile Gangle is crying all the time behind her.

"It's not so bad here Pomni, I promise!" as Gangle cries in the background.

Gangle being a constant reminder of how Ragatha, and maybe all of them really feel about being stuck here. Too early to say if Ragatha resents Gangle for this, or how she really feels about it. But if she does that's so sad because (we also don't know yet) Gangle has no control over these feelings, it wasn't her choice for her avatar to work like this.

Which honestly could be a good allegory for how certain people view mental illness in the real world too. Ragatha being a loved one who's uncomfortable with Gangle's moods, or even believes if Gangle just tried hard enough like her (example: keeping her comedy mask safe) she'd be fine. Ooh sad comic ideas.

"You really couldn't wait that long?"

Just a quick little thing based off of this ask as well as this one specifically. Can be read as a stand alone fic though it still applies to my Morax fic. Not beta read, sfw.

As the patron Archon of Liyue, Morax is tasked with guiding and protecting his people. From slaying monsters to making and fulfilling deals to creating currency, he is to do what is right for the people. In exchange, they provide him with worship and praise and gifts, ranging from simple prayers to building monuments in his honour.

That's where you find yourself this sunny, quiet afternoon.

When Morax is away fulfilling his duties as Archon, you like to draw or go on nice walks. When his duties drag on a little longer than expected, you often find yourself coming to his statues. They're the closest thing to your husband you can get until he returns home.

It takes you a bit, but you manage to scale the statue itself. Carefully, you seat yourself in his stone lap. You set your bag down next to, pulling out your sketchbook and art supplies, as well as the lunch you made ahead of time.

The first time you did it, you were ashamed for letting your impulsive thoughts get the better of you, and worried about the embarrassment of being caught. You also chastised yourself for being so clingy you would climb onto a stone imitation of your beloved because he's a day or two late. You eventually got over that, but you'd still die if he knew.

For a large stone statue, it's actually surprisingly comfortable. You spend most of your afternoon sitting on his lap, sketching the landscape, eating lunch, and simply enjoying the sunshine. It's rather relaxing.

"I wonder when Morax will be back," you murmur, simply just filling the quiet air.

"I've been back for quite a while now."

When you nearly leap out of your skin and off of the statue, familiar hands grabbed you and pull you back into a much softer, much warmer lap. Morax just smiles down at you, and you feel your face catch fire. When did he get back? When did he find you? How long has he been watching you?

He chuckles. "Could you really not wait a little longer for me to return?"

"I-I, uh, haha, I um..." You hide your face behind your hands. "I-I didn't see you there."

"Do you prefer the statue over me?" he asks.

"N-No," you tell him, "b-but you were taking a long time and... I-I was lonely."

He laughs once more, and you feel him press a kiss to your scalp. "I'll try to be more mindful of how clingy my little wife is."

"I am not c-clingy."

"Of course you aren't. That's why you're sitting on my statue's lap, right?"

I had a really cool idea for a character design this week and just had to make a quick sketch of it. that (admittedly not-short) sketch ended up turning into full line art yesterday, so I figured now would be a great time to post it!

I didn't use many reference images or specific sources of inspiration for this one surprisingly. the only parts I was a little stumped on were the hairstyle and horns, but I quickly figured out how to make both of those look believable!

I don't know much about who this guy is and I don't have a story for them. But, as you see, they're one pony very eager to become a hero! So maybe you can take them home, give them name and give them a story yourself?

Okey, there was a short break in my drawing (it was because of my first real life art exhibition - which was really nice by the way😁) but now that my sleeping time and everyday routine already came back to norm - I wanted to start making art again.

For some reason quick sketching with my ballpen is the most relaxing creative activity. Of course I have tons of other ambitious ideas and plans of things to draw - but drawing something "just like that" is always the easiest way to come back on track. And sketching with a ballpen gives you no way to come back and correct things which is... surprisingly relaxing as well? No pressure for this to be perfect. So here's just minimal edition that nobody might notice

There's method to the madness I promise lmao

I sketched him out a while ago (and intended to make the jacket, might still do that)

I thought I was gonna model him orthographically but just jumped to sculpting. Idk if I'll give him feet under the boots yet so I just ignored the lower legs for now. (and I really wanna try that hair)

Ended up using Mekt's head since it was in my library. I also used and edited Mekt's arms, slimming them down to fit Lyle, who I imagine has a slighter build.

For fun I threw some poly paint on him in Zbrush. like I REALLY wanted to get to the hair and see what that looks like

This is my first attempt at making hair this way.

That blocky hair sculpt? I cut it into the groups of hair I planned on making and did a quick autoretopo to make them into nice grids which I'll use to guide the flow of the hair curves.

^^ I generated strips of hair using Blender's hair curves system, shaded with a node tree to create shine and a slight randomization of color amongst the strands. I rendered the result orthographically to get textures for the hair, didn't bother with normal maps or anything cos I'm not sure how that would look yet

Definitely left for me! And surprisingly enough facing forward isn't that hard either but right?? Eugh eugh eugh (giving the dirtiest look at Vi’s haircut that's an additional pain in the ass to draw from the non shaved side)

Funnily enough, I had a really hard time drawing Caitlyn when I first got into Arcane. Her facial features were just really hard to get just right for me but oh well if there's a blorbo there's perseverance

But as far as more broad subjects go, environments are kind of a pain but gosh do I love drawing a good background. Tho tbf it's also in virtue of the fact that I don't draw a lot of bgs sooo....

Look. Listen. You're supposed to do warm-up sketches to get yourself into that drawing mood or whatnot so pls don't use me as a role model here because I absolutely don't do that. I just know myself and if I start sketching something before the actual drawing I mean to do I'll either end up putting too much energy into that or get annoyed that I'm not getting to the good shit and drop it.

But! On the rare occasion that I leave a drawing unfinished in the lineart stage I do something quick like a sketchy dog head or smt to get that flow into my lines so they're nice and smooth.

1. what is the character's go-to drink order?

definitely something fruity.. can’t think of anything specific rn but it’s definitely cold and with fruit in it. she’ll nearly always get a cold drink, even if it’s snowing outside.

2. what is their grooming routine?

she takes care of herself really well most days- washes her face with nice-smelling soap, uses leave-in conditioner for her wavy hair, etc.. the only times she slips up in her little daily routine are when she’s in a depressive episode after burning herself out or is in a place without running water.

3. what was their most expensive purchase/where does their disposable income go?

two pairs of glass daggers.. they’re Very Nice. she commissioned them from a blacksmith she met while traveling with adonis and lorne.

one pair has greenish glass with a silvery hilt and a leaf motif. the other pair has bluish glass with a gold hilt and a star motif.

she began courting cordelia by offering her the blue/gold set. they got along super well and became girlfriends <3

eventually, the two of them had to travel a long distance apart. they swapped one dagger with each other to feel close while apart. even after they reunited, they’ve kept their pairs mixed :-)

while the daggers aren’t enchanted, ivy can channel dark magic through them. they glow and look like uranium glass when she does it!

here's a quick rough draft of what the daggers look like :O using the skyrim glass dagger as a base for now until i come up with something better. the daggers aren't super practical tbh.. but since ivy fights with magic and cordelia fights with a greatsword, they don't have to worry about their practicality that much lol

hmm… the post-apoc equivalent of doc martens lol. tough and nice-looking. they’re usually a little muddy from exploring old ruins and traveling.

8. describe the place where they sleep.

ivy’s bedroom is cery cozy and cluttered! she’s got a bed in the corner that’s covered in a heap of blankets (which she usually sleeps on top of instead of under).

there are shelves with all her books, trinkets, and gifts from her friends and family. ivy also has a desk in her bedroom that she studies at. there’s about a 50/50 chance of her falling asleep at the desk instead of in bed tbh

the lighting is very dim. during the day, it only comes in through a window which is almost always covered by decorative curtains. at night, she keeps a lantern lit over her desk.

chai! lorne grew up in a place where it was basically the most common/popular drink around. iced or hot, doesn’t matter, he loves it. bonus points if it has aromatic herbs & spices.

2. what is their grooming routine?

it’s pretty simple- he brushes his hair with his fingers, washes his face with water, and puts on a little sunscreen (he’s got that redhead complexion). if he has a lot of spare time, he’ll take some time to stretch- gotta take care of your body when you’re a swordsman!

3. what was their most expensive purchase/where does their disposable income go?

lorne’s most expensive purchase was his prosthesis (left lower leg. i used to have it that he lost his forearm, but changed it to his leg in my latest story rewrite). he got it custom designed and had it built to be extremely durable.

well-worn boots with a steel toe and metal shin-guards.

8. describe the place where they sleep.

lorne’s bedroom is surprisingly empty.. he’s used to having to travel constantly & fitting all his belongings into one or two bags.

even in a permanent home, lorne keeps it pretty bare, only using a small shelf on the wall to display a few of his keepsakes at a time. he keeps a box under the bed with the others and swaps them out when he feels like it. he makes his bed about half the time. there’s a desk in his room like ivy’s, but he doesn’t use it very often. adonis uses it more than he does tbh wbsbwkf

Ok so before I go farther I’m just gonna spew out what self shipping ideas I’ve been cooking in my head for like a week (spoilers for dragonflight!)

So obviously Neltharion left a simulacrum, I’m still outside Abberus and have no idea if he’s good or bad atm but in my mind he’s super nice to the trio like surprisingly nice, plays into their emotions like the bastard he was and convinces them that his powers are in a helmet of his design. So he fans the flames between Sabellian and Wrathion and puts them through little trials Ebyssian is here too but he’s just really tired at this point and he’s generally just shutting down like seeing you dead father again can’t be good for you.

ANYWAY Frozal is like “this is super fuckin sketch and somthing is up” so she goes to investigate the helmet during a trial and she puts it on and surprise surprise she gets fuckin Remmy Ratatouille’d by Neltharion because he wants to continue fucking things up in the world. So anyways Neltharion is now free to leave Abberus with the meat puppet he’s possessing but before he leaves he rubs it in his sons faces and generally just rude shit like he never loved them and they’ll never be worthy of his title. General Neltharion being a dad stuff. Then he flies off above ground and goes incognito for a few days and all hell breaks loose between Kalec and Wrathion trying to figure out where the hell their girlfriend is and how they’re gonna free her from the digital ghost of a world destroying asshole. Anyways that’s the quick recap I might make a fic out of this bc there’s lots of ideas I’ve got for it but I’m gonna play though the rest of the story now just wanted to write this down before I get more info and change it

Prom Night

I decided to write a script of sorts to show how Damien and Scott confessed to each other. I also made some sketches for it. ^^

[After a long time of self-reflection, Damien has finally accepted his love for Scott. It's senior year, and he decides to ask Scott out to the prom.

Surprisingly, Scott gave a quick and direct "Yes" to his invitation. They are both excited and get ready for that special night.

On the night of the prom, they have a fun time before deciding to step outside for a calm and relaxing time together.]

Damien, wanting to break the silence: "Well, uh, the stars look uh nice today."

Scott, with a slight smile: "Yeah."

Scott, changing to a more neutral face: "Hey, Damien?"

Damien, after a sip of his fruit punch: "Yeah?"

Scott: "When you asked me to go to prom with you, did you... have a crush on me?"

Damien, slightly surprised: "Uh, yeah! Yeah, I did. I... thought that was obvious."

Scott: "Yeah, I just... wanted to make sure. It's just that, the thing is... I had a crush on you too."

Damien, even more, surprised: "Wait, you did? Since when??"

Scott: "It was actually for a long time. Since the summer after our last year of middle school."

*Damien is relieved to hear that these feelings were reciprocated, but was also confused as to how he didn't know all this time.

Scott, continuing: "Thing is, I didn't know you were gay and the people you hung out with at the time... didn't help with that. Hehe."

Damien, in his head: "Oh yeah... that... Was I *that* insecure at the time??? Damn, I should get better friends."

Scott: "But, yeah I assumed you were straight at the time and figured you wouldn't want to be in a relationship with me. And even if you were more open about being into guys, I didn't want to risk ruining our friendship..."

Damien, worried: "What do you mean by that? We've been friends for years, how could you possibly 'ruin our friendship'?"

Scott, hand over his face: "I don't know man, I just thought that if you didn't like me that way, then me telling you would make things so awkward you wouldn't want to be with me anymore..."

*Damien looks away with a sense of guilt as he takes another sip of fruit punch.

Scott, holding back tears: "It... even got to the point where... I thought that if I didn't talk to you as much, these feelings would go away..."

Damien, in his head once again: "I- Is that why he hasn't talked to me throughout most of freshmen year!? I mean, I figured it was something personal but, I didn't think it was like this!"

Scott, tears coming down: "Of course, that didn't help at all, but I-I still didn't want to tell you. I was.. scared of the possibility of losing you.."

Damien, with a huge feeling of guilt: "I'm- sorry I made you feel this way. I had no idea.."

Scott, wiping the tears from his face: "It's fine, it wasn't your fault. If anything, it was my fault for being a scaredy-cat, hehe."

Damien, reaching for Scott's hand: "Well I promise you, no matter what, I'll stay by your side. As both a friend and a lover!"

Scott, with a smile: "Thank you, I appreciate it. And honestly, I'm really glad you asked me out to prom. I can finally have this weight off my back...

Damien, with a smile: "Yeah, same here honestly."

*Scott proceeds to hug Damien to show gratitude once again. With a tiny bit of hesitation, Damien hugs back.

Damien, while hugging: "I guess we're officially dating huh?"

Scott: "I suppose so. Though, I feel like we should go on an actual date by ourselves before we can just say that. Hehe"

Damien: "Well, in that case, do you think you're free this Saturday?"

Scott: "Yeah! what you got in mind?"

Damien: "I was thinking of going to a restaurant or something, maybe Olive Garden."

Scott, with excitement: "Ooo, I love that place! Sure, why not!"

Damien, smiling with excitement as well: "Alright! Can't wait already."

Damien: "So... you think we should head back inside?"

Scott: "Nah, I kinda just wanna stay here with you a bit longer. Plus, the music they're playing right now kinda sucks."

Damien, with a laugh: "Alright alright. Can I at least get some more fruit punch?"

Scott: "Sure! Get some for me too!"

Damien, getting up: "Will do!"

After a surprisingly nice rest in the dining room of the castle, we decided to spend the day exploring. Still no one, however... it really does seem like this place is abandoned.

We found a throne room, though... it wasn’t at the centre of the castle, as expected, and seems to be more of a guest room. It also doesn’t match the style of the rest of the castle, so perhaps it is a spare throne for visiting rulers?

In more fascinating news, we found the castle has a basement. It isn’t creepy dungeons as one would expect from a typical medieval-styled castle, but instead seems to be more of a study. The rooms are built at sea-level, and in some cases, right above or even below the waters.

It’s quite incredible. There is plenty of cycled, breathable air, yet we can see through to the ocean floor beyond the walls. Avery dared each of us to touch the glass. I myself ended up... chickening out. Sophia, surprisingly, did not- I believe she was smiling after despite her scoffing tone? I’m... not sure. Glenn did not, and Fyrus placed both hands against the glass confidently before backing away. I do not blame him- I am not the biggest fan of the ocean. The timing to swim in it is delegated by the temperature outside, and for it to be warm enough to swim, it is likely a very sunny Summer. I prefer the indoor pools and the cloudy days of Spring and Autumn. 

Oh, goodness, I got side-tracked again... I apologize. Right now we are gathered in what seems to be a meeting room- or perhaps even a game room. I... have my sketchbook, I usually reserve it only for fashion design sketches and the like, but I could quickly draw some playing cards... but how would I even go about asking if anyone could like to play? I’ve... never played cards with anyone other than my mom.

I... think I will try? I don’t know if I’ll work up the nerve to ask, but... I’ll design them.

Week ending: 12th February

I kind of appreciate when a novelty song lets you know on first glance that it's a novelty song. None of these novelty songs with plausible titles for me - I respect it when a song doesn't try and trick you into listening to it. And this song, whatever else one may say about it, is at least honest about its joke status.

Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour (On the Bedpost Overnight?) - Lonnie Donegan (peaked at Number 3)

Yeah, the title of this song tells you everything you need to know. It's about whether your chewing gum loses its flavour when you stick it to a bedpost overnight. That's literally all you need to know. I have no clue why Lonnie wants to know that, or whether this was a common pratice, back in the day. And notably, "back in the day" here means back in 1913, which is when the first version of this song came about, and was used in a sketch by a Vaudeville artist. So yeah, despite the obvious silliness of the premise, this is actually a song with a history.

I think the Vaudeville connection explains a lot of the vibe of this song, actually. Because you've got that same quick shift between daft bits, like the one about a church choir interrupting a groom's wedding vows to ask the titular quesiton, or the nation going to the White House to ask the president, little unconnected jokes and one-liners, like the If tin whistles are made of tin / What do they make foghorns out of? bit, and even just nonsensical patter, like the line that's just a series of weekdays. It's scatter-brained, and just feels kind of random.

Also, a bit of a tangent, but after the lame foghorn joke, Lonnie shouts boom boom, which I only knew, before hearing it here, as the catchphrase of kid's TV talking fox Basil Brush. Intrigued, I looked it up, and it turns out that "boom boom" was an old music hall meme that developed from somebody playing a sort of "boom boom" on the drums after jokes, a sort of proto-"ba doom tshh" sound. Performers began doing it verbally, after that, which you still apparently get in panto - which is the tradition Basil's creator was drawing from. I'm really not a panto-goer, so I had no clue that was what was going on at all. A fun side-track.

Honestly, I'm having a lot more fun with this than I expected to. I normally don't like novelty songs, because they're trying to hard to get a laugh from me, and a lot of the time, the jokes just don't land. And it's not that they land here, exactly. Quite the opposite, there's a lot about the song that kind of grosses me out, but it's still somehow not as cringey as I thought it might be. There's enough skiffle in it, I think, between the frantic pace and strummy guitar and shouty, repetitive delivery, that I can kind of forget that it's Lonnie trying to be "funny" and just appreciate it as an extension of Lonnie's generally quite chaotic vibes. It's not an American folk song, but the overall effect is stunningly similar.

I also appreciate the live recording - the wild reaction from Lonnie's fans at the end make him sound much more punk rock than he has any right to come away from this sounding. By the end, I'm almost convinced I'm listening to something that's actually cool. And then I see the title and remember that this is a song about sticking chewing gum on your bedpost overnight. Which... yeah. Still gross.

I had a lot more fun with this than I expected to. I can absolutely see how Lonnie's mix of wild delivery, cheap production values and slightly daft music hall lyrics could have been pretty influential with later bands like the Beatles, honestly. Even the accent's not a million miles away - or it's at least a step towards proper regional British accents in music. Normally Lonnie's doing his best impression of an American hillbilly, so it's kind of nice to hear his "normal" accent here. Or at least a distinctively British accent, because he still doesn't sound very Glaswegian. Ah, well.

Design Board Layout Ideas

Here I experimented with a variety of different layouts for my design boards. I knew I wanted something simple as my designs were quite large and prominent and I liked the idea of incorporating some form of fairy element to link in with fairyland at Cannon Hall as my designs are quite whimsical and fairy like.

To experiment with layouts in a more time effective manner I have done the majority of these as quit and messy digital sketches just to get a rough idea.

IDEA 1

For this layout I wanted the focus to be on the name as seen by the second design using the origin of the name (the flower) as a key feature enhanced by stripe of a colour seen in my design in the background to tie it all together, as well as this I added some little fairies flying around to show the link to fair land that I wanted.

I thought this idea looked pretty good digitally however as soon as I did it onto the drawing paper it just did not come together as I wanted. I think the fairies look awkward and childish and the flower seems out of place. Due to this I added the band or flowers around the bottom to match the ones in the dress as well as adding little stars and random lines. However their is now way too much going on and it looks very messy and draws attention away from the illustration.

IDEA 2

Still linking in with the fairies, for this layout I edited some fairy wings onto my illustration instead of the fairies scattered around however once again it looks very childish and doesn’t compliment the design.

IDEA 3

For my 4th idea I incorporated the flowers/ vines from the dress and digitally placed them at the bottom of the page in which I kind of like however I’m not overly happy enough with it to take it forward as I feel more can be done to tie it in with Cannon Hall.

IDEA 4

Going in a slightly different direction,here I have tested out doubling up my illustrations by adding a photocopied version behind it. I surprisingly like this quite a lot especially on the designs which have a bit more going on rather than a solid skirt for example however I felt it slightly distracted from the main illustration so I tried this again but with a layer of tracing paper between in which I think worked really well.

IDEA 5

For this idea I tried incorporating some direct link to Cannon Hall such as images of the gardens . I did this in black and white to help my design to stand out as well as doubling up the illustrations to add a bit of depth . With Thai I experimented with the flower the dress is named after as well as adding some purple lines to match the dress. I further added an image of my final garment to see how that would work and I think it looks quite nice, I tested this in both black and white and normal to see which one worked better and I think I prefer the black and white however I wanted to test out some other ideas.

IDEA 8

Once again with the e fairy wings I illustrated these blue ones using watercolour in this wishy washy style. I do like this idea of incorporating fairy wings however I feel it blends inti the dress to much and takes away from the design however I really like how it looks with the blue dress bellow. In addition to this I experimented with the doubling up again and layering tracing paper in-between.

Continuing with this wing idea I two more quick illustrations, one being more messy and jagged whilst the other being more delicate and detailed, I prefer this one a lot more and think this is the design I want to go forward with.

Similar to the previous one I did I created 4 slightly different wings using black biro pen however this time I did the lines a lot lighter to match more so with the skin. Now I just need to photocopy these to get the reversed side.

IDEA 9

Similar to the wings I wanted to keep this layout pretty simple too so I got some dragon illustrations I had previously done for my sketchbook and played them out and I think they compliment the designs quite nicely and I used the same media s I did for the skin shoes and heads and it further helps to link it into Cannon Hall.

FINAL DESIGN

For my final design boards I have decided to take forward the biro fairy wing illustrations along with the dragon illustrations as I wanted to keep the boards fairly simple due to the fact my designs are quite large and theirs a lot going on. I further intend to add the shoes to the background of the ones who art wearing any as I really like the shoe illustrations I did and think it helps add a little something to the boards. In addition to this I liked the doubling up idea with tracing paper so I think I also want to take this forward and test out some ideas with that.

#4: Secret Santa 2023 Experience.

Happy Holidays to all. And this year, I joined a secret santa at discord and had fun time doing it.

Meet Kero. The OC of the giftee, @dirtj0b. Has hard looking face but his actually quite softer. He loves frogs as well. Hence the name.

Here my thought process behind this one

Was a fun character to do. This is the first time that I drew a more masculine character. Before, I did more curvy women and a twink named Link. Here some reference provided from him.

Sketching out his more muscular frame and huge shoulder was quite a feat. Making sure that the inner lines around it would properly convey the foreshortening and how muscular he is.

Another new thing I did was drawing a masculine looking face. Mostly doing women and Links has made me a habit of softening the facial features. After taking a quick nap and looking at the picture again, I realized how soft his face is and needed more angular, sharper lines around the face.

Here, you can compare these all faces to see for yourself. Each small line really makes the difference. Would sleep after an attempt and wake up to see if it still look like the OC I'm making. Had even over layed the characters face to see where I'm going wrong here.

Originally I wanted to also include his Boyfriend, Puck. I thought it would cute to be together. But day work got busy and I was running out of time to create this. I could just said "fuck it, here it is" but it wouldn't represent them best together. So I just had to scrap him altogether in the end.

Added the blue frogs cuz he likes them. Also the background as well. They're both blue since they contrast well against Kero's green shirt and red hair.

Finally, added some neon inspired text of his name. If you're asking about the saturated greens on his shirt, it's because it adds some nice color vibration to it.

How about my secret santa gift? I asked Zelink fan art. I only really wanted to give this year but the requirements inlcuded getting gifted. I like it. I thought I wouldn't feel anything in receiving art of characters I always draw, but surprisingly, it felt good.

HiPaint was pretty nice, though some ui things annoyed me (the lil undo/redo popup banner is kinda annoying), and also i found out too late that the 'clear' option doesnt just clear the current layer, but deletes EVERYTHING, layers included. So no funni first attempt sketchpage alas

I do like its array of pens and tools! Really nice!!!! Kinda like a mix between autodesk and medibang to me, with a few more options like autodesk, but easy readability like medibang! Nice fun and easy

I tried Infinite Painter next and holy shit? Its pretty overwhelming but i mean that in the best way possible!!! Like wow thats a Lotta Options!!!!!! I also like the pen feel the app has, idk how to rlly describe it but the stylus flows REALLY nicely here. Honestly seems like it'll be a blast to explore and fuck around in!!!

I didnt get all the way through the test drawing but im really liking it so far!!! (As in liking it enough to genuinely consider buying it. Its 7 dollars btw)

it didnt have a very promising start, unfortunately. Theres this annoying delay that makes me feel like i have the stabilizer on, despite it being. Off. Good for lineart i will say, but not for the initial quick n rough sketches i like to do starting out. Also all the pencils were stuck behind an watching an ad, which, while nice that watching it unlocks everything, is just something i dont want to do!! I will say the banner add is surprisingly unobtrusive, which is nice!

Im gonna take a break, and possibly try it again, but it's honestly not looking too good for this one lmao

What r some mobile art apps that ppl like using, im tired of how just. downright AWFUL the medibang paint app has become (and i havent updated it in actual years, but the reviews... are NOT promising)

Im gonna download n check out a few apps but if u have some options/opinions that can cut down the search time... i t'would appreciate that greatly 🙏
