Why All This Chaos In The Society On Weight & Loosing Those Few Extra Kilos?
Human body should be in a healthy state. Primarily healthy state means, ability to live happily by doing all activities of daily living, traveling, working & playing etc & to remain without any health discomfort or disease. Health related stress & work stress also complicates health. Childhood obesity when goes unattended can lead to a spectrum of disorders at early adult ages. At older ages these extra kilos might be the reason for health issues. From cardio vascular to metabolic disorders to skeletomuscular issues, Obesity can cause various troubles, that can affect the physical, mental, social & behavioural aspects of a person.

What One Needs To Know For A Mindful, Consistent Weight Loss Journey?
Often due to work pressure and demands of the professional life, we tend to keep moving and focus less on what we consume. But unfortunately that’s the basic reason for our health issues. One such serious issue is obesity, due to consumption of snacks and colas in between meals and consumption of heavy fast food. Craving for food – As you don’t get enough nutrients by taking these junk foods. Calorie Demand & Supply gap. When you don’t supply the extra calories that are not needed by your body, you take the 1st step. When you create a gap between the demand and supply of calories, ie., supply less than what’s needed, then the body tends to convert the stores to energy and that’s a way to loose weight. Avoid living on processed foods and high sugar or carbohydrate foods. Have a balanced approach. Take more fibers, fruits and vegetables with different colours and avoid taking huge meals, instead break up your meals in to small portions and consume by giving intervals. Set a goal. But a realistic goal. Don’t keep the bar too high, so you give up after some initial attempts. Have a mentor or a weight loss trainer to guide you. A goal should be S – specific, M – measurable, A – achievable, R – relevant, T – time bound, ie. SMART goal approach. Ask for help when required or when you feel that you are going out of track from your set goals. Have adequate sleep. Destress yourself by practicing yoga. Yoga helps bring mind, body & soul in a sync and helps you self motivate. Go for a walk. Walking has positive effects on health. You can cut down on the calorie intake is one way. But be careful, it should not lead to craving for food. You can increase the energy expenditure is another way. But again be careful that you don’t end up tired by overdoing. Combine both these in an optimal manner without overdoing any one thing. A balanced approach can help control weight gain and help in your weight loss journey. Read the label of the food products. Cut down on excess of anything, be it cola, salt, sugar or carbohydrates. You can do any of these drastically & there is a process to do any thing. A planned approach can help you stick to your weight loss routine longer. In weight loss consistency is success. Don’t keep your eyes on everyday weight loss. That’s no good. Focus on outcomes based on long term goals. There is no instant solution to loose weight. Cut down on snacks, fried items, plain maida & carbohydrate rich foods and sugary substances. Cut down on alcohol & control smoking. No drastic steps in any of the above aspects can help. There are 1000 things that can be done to loose weight. But you are unique and so your process may differ and need not be the same as others follow. Based on your life style, your job, your needs and time available you can select methods. Too ambitious targets in weight reduction is the step where many fail as its not a realistic approach. Accept that it takes time. Accept that it’s a process. Accept that you are unique and believe that you can do it. Start the journey with all these awareness and there are good chances of you succeeding among a few. Take one step at a time. You may start with consuming ACV, as step 1 & go for a walk in the morning & in the evening after dinner.

He is: my boyfriend, and I love him dearly. Perfect amount of himbo and athlete without being a jock, everybody give it up for Eren for being my dream boy <3
Eren plays sports year round, with the exception of maybe one or two winter seasons, just because his school/work/home life was too busy for athletics at those times. Otherwise, he’s always go something to practice for: soccer in the fall, hockey in the winter, and his choice of baseball or basketball in the spring.
He’s not a varsity athlete; that is, he’s not “committed” to any one team, so he’s not tied to playing one sport every year, nor are his academics linked to his athletics, or vice versa. He’s just a pretty athletic guy, and he’s got a lot of energy, and he enjoys sports, so naturally he plays whenever he can.
As it turns out, it does help him with his academics. Knowing he’s got practice the majority of the week forces Eren into building a schedule that prioritizes both schoolwork and sports so he can enjoy them equally. It teaches him to be independent in a way that he wasn’t expecting, but he’s come to really love.
And because he loves it, he doesn’t mind working hard for it. Liking the way he’s set it up for himself encourages him to do his best in both areas. It’s really just good for him all around: a good outlet fo his energy, a good way to spend his time, a good way to keep his grades in check, and a good way to keep himself comfortably happy and busy.
His appetite is insatiable, so it’s only dramatized when playing sports. He takes the all you can eat in all you can eat sushi a little too seriously.
The thing is… he’s a shit cook, too, so it’s not like he’s meal prepping to make sure he’s satisfying his appetite. He just buys a shit ton of food whenever he’s hungry. He’s always asking you if you wanna grab food, and part of it is to ensure that you’re eating—not as much as him, but eating nonetheless—but part of it is that he just likes sharing meals with someone.
He also doesn’t like to eat alone, so even if you only have your ten California rolls to his forty six spicy tuna rolls, that’s fine; he just wants the company.
That’s also why even if you say you’re not hungry, he’ll drag you out to eat with him anyway. And you’ll probably get fed some of his food even if you don’t order anything and insist that you’re not hungry because, “It’s really good, baby, just try it—just one bite, it’s okay I’ve got plenty left!”
He usually keeps a few granola bars and chips and other snacks of his liking on him. But because of Eren’s nature, he keeps them on you, too: in your car, in your backpack, in your apartment/dorm. You’ll meet him after class and he’ll kinda just start walking behind you, and you realize he’s opening your backpack, and you don’t even have time to question him before he’s pulling a bar out of the smallest pocket with a smile and munching on it.
Sometimes you come home and see his little protein shakes in your fridge. You definitely didn’t put them there, but you don’t move them, either. When you stock up on more when they’re running low, Eren contemplates marrying you.
If it’s been a hard week of practice or school, he tends to get sleepy when studying (usually when studying for his least favorite class, no coincidence there). He’ll close his laptop, put his hood up, and scooch his chair closer to yours before leaning his head on your shoulder.
He gets increasingly clingier the longer he naps; hand wrapping around your waist, nose poking at your neck. He’s not so subtly trying to hint that he wants you to quit studying and take him home to cuddle instead. If you don’t get the message, expect him to shut your laptop for you.
When you protest, Eren just looks at you with pouty lips and tired eyes, “Chemistry sucks anyway. Wanna nap, and also wanted you to do that thing with your hands when you massage my back for me.” (He then promptly falls asleep mid-massage on your bed).
He’s actually got a waiver to see a physical massage therapist because of how frequently he’s exercising. On occasion, he goes, but he claims he likes your massages much better. Also because he’s hesitant about a stranger touching him and once he moaned when the guy was working on his back and Eren swears it was one of the most embarrassing moments of his life.
He doesn’t get upset if you can’t make it to every game, but he does like it when you show up. Gets all cheesy and cocky with his arm around your shoulder, going on about how, “You’re my good luck charm, baby. I play better when you’re watching, you know?”
He has so much team clothing, from sweats to hoodies to t-shirts to socks. All he asks is that you wear something on game days, even if you can’t be there to support him while he’s playing. And that you keep one or two things for yourself anyway. He’ll put them in your closet for your if you don’t take them yourself <2
Because seeing you in his hoodie is always great, but his team hoodies are extra special, because they’ve got his name and his number on them. Whenever you’re wearing one, he trails just a half step behind you so he can see JAEGER printed on your back while you walk. Something about you wearing his last name around is… enticing, to say the least.
Even if it’s not the clothes branded with his name, Eren’s got a thing for you in sweats and/or workout clothes, so he’ll toss them at you whenever you sleep over. He’s always handsy, even if you’re just wearing an Under Armour shirt with the school’s logo on it; the material of it, and knowing that it’s his just makes him want to keep his hands on you.
Truthfully, he doesn’t workout all that much outside of practice. Occasionally, he’ll go to the gym with some of his teammates if they need a buddy, or go himself to stretch or take one of the free classes, but he doesn’t have a strict schedule for it. If you go to the gym, he’ll follow you if you ask, tho.
Turns out something that he does like is yoga. He’s not particularly flexible lmfao, but the stretching helps with muscle pain and tension, and he kinda finds the whole atmosphere of it relaxing. He’s still not so great at the meditation part of it, but he’s getting there.
(Actually, it’s pretty cute because on Tuesday and Thursdays, the yoga classes at the gym on campus are open-level and beginner friendly. That’s when the majority of the athletes show up, and you see people like Eren, Jean and Connie holding tree pose in the back room).
This, of course, makes him think that couples yoga is a great idea. Let’s just say, you’re lucky that Eren is strong enough to catch you and has sharp reflexes, because he’s certainly not the most balanced partner for this activity.
Game days are fun for him, and usually even if his team loses, he’s still so pumped up on adrenaline that he’s pretty happy. He only gets moody if he thinks the other team is playing dirty, or the refs are unfair, or he’s just been in a bad mood because of something that happened in his personal life; sports are an outlet for him, not his drive in life, so losing a game doesn’t take a huge toll on him.
Usually, even if he is upset about something personal, he’s able to funnel it into his game play. Small things used to make his whole sportsmanship sour, but overtime, he’s really gotten better at using his energy to fuel the right things. However, one thing that makes him foul (emotionally and literally; as in he might foul out of a game), is if he’s been fighting with you.
Sometimes it works in his favor—using the game as outlet, like usual—but it goes south pretty quickly. Because instead of using his aggression in a productive way, he gets distracted and easily pissed off, and it’s no good for anybody, especially himself. Because if he fouls out, or the coach takes him out for doing too much, then he can’t play; and if he can’t play then all that pent up frustration has no where to go; and then he’s forced to just sit with himself and his thoughts, but usually he starts deflecting and telling everyone else to piss off. Truly a no good, very bad box he’s put himself in.
You guys don’t fight that often, and it’s rare that it drags out for an extended amount of time when you do; but as with any relationship, it can happen. And when it does happen, if Armin doesn’t get to you first, expect one of Eren’s teammates to come groveling at your feet.
Or, rather, two. Because when you and Eren were fighting for over two weeks about god knows what at this point, it was Connie and Jean who ambushed you in the library. Jean had some pride to keep, but Connie was practically begging you to make up with Eren: “Look, I know he’s probably the one who said or did something to piss you off, and I’m not saying you gotta forgive him, but please just talk to him. I can’t run anymore extra laps because of him, and it’s gonna be so embarrassing if we lose to a C-list team on Friday because Eren’s funking up everyone’s attitude. PLEASE!”
Jean is more interested in the tea between you guys, but he also wants Eren to go back to being his normal hotheaded self, and not his current moody self. “He’s been playing like a bitch baby all week, and I’m gonna knock his skull in if he doesn’t fucking get his act together,” Jean rolls his eyes, “So just show up on Friday, alright? Do it for me and Connie, at least.”
When Eren does see you in the crowd at the game, it’s not a Troy and Gabriella moment, but when he sees you he feels so much relief that he’s physically calmer and way more mentally relaxed—because at this point Eren wasn’t even mad, he was just scared you might break up with him, and that fear brought out the worst in him. Seeing you in the stands, even if you didn’t wanna speak to him, was reassurance that you still gave a damn about him, and that was motivation enough.
He rushes to you after the game, wanting to make sure you don’t get swept away or leave with your friends. He’s smiling and so happy to finally see you that he almost forgets that you’re mad with him; hugging you and grinning ear to ear. When the reality kicks in, he kinda steps back at bit and rubs at his neck, embarrassed, but at least he knows he still has a chance to make things right with you.
(When you do make up, you’re surprised to find flowers and $10 coupon for your favorite pizza place in your mailbox a few days later. They’re from Connie, and his poorly handwritten note thanks you for “saving the team” and “curbing Eren’s temper).

Do you have any good tips for getting started with practicing anatomy? Everything I've found for beginners is tips for if you've already started practicing and what not to do, but I just need to know where to start. I get that poses help but I need the basics. Please help but like no pressure art is just a minor hobby
ok so exercises you should start with: learning human proportion.
adult humans are generally around 8-8.5 heads tall. this is a common practice to understanding the sizes of the human shape. i did quite a few of these bad boys when i was learning how to draw. there are more examples of this exercises on google using the search terms “human body proportions drawing”
what you want to do to set up this practice is make a grid about 9 lines about an inch apart (or any size according to your paper/canvas size. preferably do this in ink, or another layer. this is so you can erase your human figure as much as you want and not erase the grid.
then start with the head, and work your way down, matching the proportions of the body to the grid. you can look at a human photo for ref, or you can just do a little bubble or stick man. the point is that youre doing this to learn the proportions of the human anatomy. this part isnt about drawing good or not. youre building the skeleton (without the tedium of drawing an actual skeleton bc oof)
another general anatomy proportion thing is the study of the face. theres a few good rules here for learning that you can try to replicate. to get more references of this sort of facial proportions, you can google “human face proportion drawing” to find more examples of these rules.
i hope this is a good basic start for you, and not something that is too complex to have explained in this way aah. i know a lot of anatomy stuff can get super specific, but these are the first steps i took to learning anatomy. you gotta learn the basic rules of the body first before you start honing details.

So it’s been a while since I posted Gambit’s bio, and I think it’s about time I started posting bios for my other characters, don’t you?
This is Frost the Snow Leopard, and next to Gambit, he’s the character I’m the most proud of out of all the characters I’ve made. He’s also the one I’ve put the most amount of work into when taking into account both the character and everything surrounding him.
But this wasn’t something I did on my own. Huge, HUGE shoutouts to my best friend @pidgeonspen who not only helped make Frost’s initial design, but also did his redesign, did this entire beautiful ref sheet, helped me figure out a lot of character stuff and of course, helped me with the bio.
Speaking of the bio, let’s get right into it! Everything is below the readmore
Age: 30
Occupation: Self-proclaimed Emperor of Osakiru
Personality: Cold, calculating, driven and authoritative - these are but some of the words that can describe Frost.
His immaculate ability to inspire both the best and the worst in those around him is drawn from his ambition, his driving ideals of both strength and self, and his sheer intensity. He is a skilled manipulator, able to easily influence those around him into fighting for his cause using a his natural inclinations towards both strategy and diplomacy. Frost is a very pragmatic individual, often making decisions based off of what he feels is objectively the “best” for both his country and himself. He is not someone who angers quickly, nor is he someone who will resort to violence unless he deems it necessary. However, if he feels he needs to, he will use the threat of violence to get his subordinates in line, and more often than not, he will use both fear and violence to subjugate those that dare to resist, justifying it under the guise of a “greater good”
He also possesses a keen insight which allows him to quickly and easily derive information about people, places, and situations that he then uses to his advantage.
Skills: As his name implies, Frost can control ice; he employs his power both offensively and defensively, and to great effect. However, this power does not come freely. The sheer cold he produces takes quite an extensive toll on his body, and using it for too long can have detrimental - possibly even permanent- effects on his body. because of this , Frost has had to spend most of his life learning to control this power, with him only recently having found a way to do so. While he can now control his power without actively concentrating on it, it still poses a huge risk to him. As a result, in combat Frost only uses his powers when he absolutely needs to, instead usually falling back on both his swordsmanship and hand to hand combat skills instead. Since he has had little to no formal training in either, he’s instead self-taught, spending hours upon hours studying and training himself, with the end result being a fighting style he can truly call his own. When it comes to his swordsmanship, his focus is primarily on quick, precise sword slashes that dispatch foes quickly . His hand-to-hand style is one that is heavily counter-focused , taking advantage of openings with hard-hitting, precise strikes. When he is forced to use his powers however, he usually channels them through his katana, minimizing the toll his powers take on his body, and boosting the power and range of his strikes
Hobbies: Training is Frost’s main hobby, and one he takes very seriously. Reading- While Frost places great value on the importance of honing ones’ physical strength, he places just as much importance on the strengthening of ones’ mind, and as such, he is an avid reader. If he is not in his personal dojo, he can often be found in his study, perusing the many books he has acquired via his conquest or otherwise. While he occasionally dips his toes into the realm of fiction, his preferences lie in the realms of history and philosophy, both spritual and practical. Mental challenges- In the same vein as his love of reading, Frost has recently taken to occasionally indulging in mental exercises in an attempt to truly stimulate his mind. Games such as Sudoku, Shogi, and even Risk are ones he not only enjoys on the rare occasion he gets to play them, but ones he is also extremely good at, since they play to his strengths. Meditation- This is less so a hobby and moreso a problem solving technique Frost has found useful. Whenever he needs to figure out the solution to a complicated issue, he will often sit in silent meditation to clear his mind so he can come to what he feels is the perfect solution.
Likes: The pursuit of strength, seafood (In particular lobster and salmon), reading, comfortable silence, mental exercises/problem solving of any kind, clothing (Suits and jackets in particular. He gets them custom made), order/control, sake, and hot baths/saunas (he finds them relaxing)
Dislikes: Disorder, insubordination, cowardice, excessive heat, “talking heads” shows, sweet foods and drinks, and excessive noise (He can handle it he just dislikes it)
Flaws: Frost’s cold, calculating worldview ultimately leads him to see people less as individuals to be treated with respect and more as tools to be used to reach whatever ends he desires. While Frost is an excellent strategist, his plans tend to be rather complex in both scope and execution, requiring many moving parts to work in tandem. As a result, his plans can fall apart if exposed to an overly chaotic element, albeit there is usually a slight margin of error there anyways.
Backstory: From the very start, Frost’s life was marked by constant struggle, in part due to his powers. When his gelid powers began to manifest in his early childhood, Frost needed help to survive - his powers would begin freezing him to death lest his body temperature was regulated. As he lived in poverty, the most viable option came in the form of quite literally boiling water for baths at regular intervals in an attempt to keep him from freezing himself over. Unfortunately, these powers had a tendency to attract attention - something his family truly didn’t need nor want, living in squalor among one of the most crime-ridden parts of the country.
Frost’s father himself was a low-ranking thug in the local yakuza, while his mother stayed at home, looking after Frost – and over her shoulder constantly. Frost’s parents demanded Frost “keep [his] head down and don’t draw attention.”; and for a long time, he did just that. But try as he might to “blend into the background” as his parents wanted, his inability to control his power continually drew attention to him, often leaving him ostracized and sometimes even harassed by his peers. Even his older brother was of no use, instead content to follow in his father’s footsteps and pretend all was well, also desperate not to make a “fuss” as it were, the few times he stood up for the young leopard ultimately making little difference..
Alone, living in absolute filth, burdened with powers he could not control, the young Frost was miserable, and he constantly hoped and prayed that things would change, that he wouldn’t have to live like this, that things would just somehow get better. But those prayers would never be answered, and for a long time it seemed like there was no way out for Frost–until he found it. One day, while enduring yet another round of harassment from his peers, something in Frost just *snapped*. For the first time in his life, he truly unleashed his power and froze his tormentors solid. The incident quickly drew unwanted attention, resulting in his father pulling him out of the school to prevent any further mishaps, desperately hoping things would blow over and return to normal. But they never would, for Frost had learned a very valuable lesson: the power of fear.
The faces of those around him - frozen in fear, their hands trembling, their jaws slackened - desperately backing away from him, in what seemed like pure terror, told him everything he needed to know. But perhaps almost as telling was his father’s solution to this issue; instead of trying to figure out how things had gotten to this point, he had simply chosen to keep quiet, too worried about “making a fuss”, perfectly content to let things go on as they always did. And when Frost had finally snapped after years of torment, his father’s solution was to simply hide him away, trying to wait for things to go back to normal. In fact, when Frost thought about it, that is what everyone else had done all this time. They were content to simply let things go on as they always had, too worried about causing a fuss or shaking up the “status quo”, too concerned with saving themselves above all else . That is when Frost realized something: if he truly wanted to improve his situation, he would have to be the one to do it; him and no one else.
Yet despite these revelations, Frost was still very much at a loss as to what to do: He knew that he was the only person who could improve his situation, but he was still at a loss as to the how. He knew fear would be an effective tool in reaching those ends, but he was still at a loss as to what those ends even were, much less how he would even use it effectively. But as fate would have it, he would not find his answers in the present, but the past. Stuck in his own home with no recourse, Frost stumbled upon a dusty, nearly tattered book on his father’s bookshelf. The book itself told the tales of great kings and empires gone by, of men turned myth, who were respected, beloved, and most of all, *feared*. But that alone was not enough to give Frost the direction he needed. It was only when he began to pay attention to the news, to the state of his country, that it all came together. It struck him with a revelation: it wasn’t just his parents or his teachers or the adults around him that were complacent and fearful of change, it was the entire country. The entire country was just as stagnant, squalid, and content to lie in its own filth as the small corner he was forced to call home. Those in power - the formal Osakiran government, and the Yakuza syndicates that held the leash, were far too weak, too complacent with their comfortable lives to bring the change the country needed. It brought to mind those emperors of old Frost had read about; men who rose to power, uplifting and uniting their people all the while. Not like the privileged cowards who ruled now… and that’s when Frost realized what it would take to salvage both himself and Osakiru, what separated the historical rulers from the present: strength. Osakiru would need someone who was truly strong not just in body, but mind and will as well. And it was then that Frost realized that he and only he could become that man. He would have to dispose the feeble cowards and take their place at the top, not just for himself, but everyone else.
Frost knew what he had to do now, and he was already training both his mind and body in preparation for the task to come. All he needed was an opportunity, and one such opportunity would soon make itself known. One day, the syndicate Frost’s father had spent his life working for finally came for him, punishing him for one mistake too many, dumping his fetid corpse onto the street for all to see. All, including Frost and what was left of his family. His brother, seeing the very clear writing on the wall, decided to flee the country, attempting to take both Frost and his mother with him to safety. But despite the pleading of both his mother and brother, calling his actions “suicide”, Frost would not flee. He knew what he had to do, the image of his father’s corpse only cementing into his mind his mission. And so they fled, leaving Frost alone, and it was then that Frost, not even an adult yet at the age of 17, pledged himself into the service of the very syndicate that had taken his father’s life, seeing the path to the top through them
Frost began his climb to the top then and there. Despite the many mistakes he made in those formative years, which showed themselves through bruises, scars, and even a missing finger, Frost pressed on, pushing himself to become the *best*. He trained his body, his mind, his *will* to the point where he could not take any more, yet he kept going, pushing himself to greater and greater heights, modeling himself after the very rulers he had read about all those years ago, all in an effort to be the very image of strength he knew he had to be. His efforts would not go unnoticed, and within a few years, Frost found himself to be the 2nd in command of the entire syndicate. As Frost’s reach grew, so did his numbers, whether it be through assimilating the other syndicates or people joining his ranks of their own volition. Four individuals in particular, all of whom Frost saw untapped potential in and who saw in Frost the key to their own salvation, would come to make up his inner circle, soon to be known as the Black Lotus.
Eventually, the last of the syndicates fell to Frost’s forces. Now, all that was left to do was to overthrow the formal government. At this point, they knew that Frost was on his way, and that it was too late to stop him; they were outmatched, outplayed, and ultimately overwhelmed. When his icy blade ripped through the Prime Minister’s chest, spilling crimson onto the steps of Osakiru’s Capitol Building, it marked the final, bloody conclusion of Frost’s 11 year conquest. No longer would Osakiru be ruled by yakuza thugs or ineffectual Prime Ministers. Now it would be ruled by an *emperor*, one who would bring Osakiru into a new golden age.
Despite the success of his initial conquest, Frost knew the real work had only just begun; there was no time for celebration, and he quickly got to work imposing his will unto the country. He cleaned the streets, both figuratively and literally, reorganizing the pathetic OSDF into a true army, and created a new police force to unflinchingly carry out his will and being the emperor’s eyes and ears. He knew that in order to secure his vision, sacrifices would have to be made, and so he quickly consolidated all of Osakiru’s media under a single banner in a bid to suppress any thought of rebellion, and to push his ideology onto the people. Schools suffered the same, their curriculum changed to emphasize nationalistic pride and personal achievement. Every able-bodied adult was put to work under his rule, for the betterment of economy and to aid in building his ideal nation. Among the first orders of business was renovating the decrepit palace to fit Frost’s vision, a symbol of his immense power and of the dynasties he sought to emulate. He made sure that no matter where you were in Osakiru, his presence was *felt*. He became at once the most beloved figure in all of Osakiru and the one everyone feared the most.
Two years later, and Frost continues to rule Osakiru with an iron fist, still seeking new ways to develop and strengthen both his country and himself. One of his latest approaches involves seeking new, diplomatic relationships with powerful allies, such as the Kingdom of Acorn and G.U.N., hoping for both an economic partnership and one to strengthen defenses against the likes of Dr. Eggman - the one factor that keeps Frost from expanding Osakiru’s territory. With his sights set southward to Osakiru’s historical rival, Chun-nan, Frost knows it’s simply a matter of time. Eventually, the opportunity will rise, and Frost happens to be a very patient man.

First of all, I think there are things that might work for me, but not for youor someone else. This might depend on ourlifestyles, personalities, interests, goals and even our own concept of art.
• Practice*everyone screaming “We knoooooow that”in the background*I’m sure every artist says so, but it’s worth repeating it: I swear, practice isessential to get better at art. Without it, you can’t improve. It’s likelearning to play a musical instrument or training to become an athlete. • Time & patienceIt goes without saying that getting better at art takes time and requirespatience, other than effort and willpower. If you don’t have time to draw andpractice every day (like me), but you still love art, please don’t give up yourpassion! Believe me, one can be both an artist and a (non-art)student and/or aworker, a homemaker… No one says it’s easy - it might be difficult for thosewho have plenty of free time, too. Perhaps you can’t commit to art full time,but in the long run your soul will thank you for letting art be a constant withyour life, even for a small number of hours per week. Then who knows, art couldbecome your main job one day.• Study & set yourself goalsOf course, studying anatomy, colour, light, perspective, composition and suchare going to build a firm basis of skills you can count on when it comes torepresent what you have in your mind. You can also study artworks from otherartists, including photos. This is actually my favourite exercise and it usuallyhelps boost my inspiration. If you like, you can look for workflow videosonline or art talks and critiques. Like, the first three YT channels that cometo my mind are Ahmed Aldoori, Sycra and Sara Tepes!Finding and setting your own goals, be it mastering a certain area of study, orjust be able to draw a horse or be one of the best designers of clothespins, couldbe one way to stay motivated. Two of my goals at the moment are getting betterat painting skin and painting high resolution images!
Little tip: Imagine you’re going todraw a portrait of a woman, framed from the waist up. Let’s suppose it includestwo things you are not very good at drawing: hands and clothes. You want to focus on your weaknesses, so you shouldtry and study these two elements. You could ask someone to pose for you, or youcan look for references (refs areBLISS, refs are LIFE) online; alternatively, you could simulate folds of theshirt of the woman by wearing a similar one and looking at yourself in themirror, in case you can’t find any suitable references.This is actually the way I’ve learnt most of the stuff I know. I’mnot saying it’s the best method, but it works for me at the moment (and I wouldsuggest trying it): I don’t have much free time but I’m not sacrificing thechance to learn something new, to experiment.I still struggle with all of those areas of study today (anatomy, etc.). I knowthat if I could practice more, I would be a lot better, but I’ve learned to dealwith the fact that I have little time to do that and I can’t do anything aboutit. This leads to the next point.
• ENJOY what youdoI guess every artist (me included! :D) on the planethas experienced, at least once, that awful frustration, that terrible lack ofinspiration. Some people want to cry, then end up thinking they’re not talentedenough, that they can’t make it and that they’ll never get better.Discouragement can actually be a common feeling for every kind of artist, be ita painter, a writer, a musician, an actor… but never let this feeling wear youout. If all you see is crap in your art, then what you can do is take a break from drawing. Clear yourmind, find a distraction. Do not forceyourself to draw, if this will result in an increasing amount of negative,unhealthy feelings that won’t lead you anywhere. You don’t want art to stress you out. It should be something youenjoy doing, it should relax, comfort you and make you happy, right?
Also, if you can easily get negative, look otherartists you love with admiration and let them be your source of inspiration,rather than another excuse to harshly critique yourself because “they’re betterthan you”. You know what’s been a huge mistake for me? Being extremelyself-critical and negative about my art, which often prevents me from seeing myimprovements. This is why appreciation for my works surprises me every time andI am so infinitely glad whenever my art manages to convey a message, a feelingor tell a story. My modesty and lack of self-esteem caused me to miss some goodopportunities and I still have to learn from this all. I’m working on it :’DI can’t tell you much about styles instead. As for mine, I don’t worry too muchabout it. I like variation in my artworks J Indeed, I would consider being able to switch fromone style to another as an additional skill!
