His name is Oscar :) Mostly does touchups + special effects to liveaction stuff but makes his little cartoons on the side. Probably more Fantasmagorie than Steamboat Willie though.

This is cribbing from my longass reply to that ask I got a week ago about technology levels in Sorneith but - I am honestly surprised and thrilled that we got a TV vista given how staff keeps saying that Sorneith is at 1920s technology levels. Technically television existed in the 20s but it was pretty crude and definitely not widespread. I guess time is moving on!

In my lore at least television mostly isn't a thing - infrastructure in Sorneith is spotty at best due to a lack of interflight cooperation + lack of intraflight coordination + generally hostile geology where anything that isn't supervised constantly is prone to getting hit by lightning or set aflame by a volcano or stomped by Luminax. Even radio coverage can be unreliable in a lot of areas, and it's common for stations to be run by individuals or small groups with no real oversight or coordination. The SSMC has a broadcast wing with stations in Fire, Lightning, and Ice and they are constantly dealing with yahoos trying to bust in on their frequencies.

Where it does exist, it's used as a tool for public announcements and government news. Monitors are set up in public places and you have to go out to see the broadcast. Only very wealthy or very important dragons would have their own sets. This mostly happens in Arcane territory, which is relatively urbanized/has a semi-functional central government, as well as having high levels of ambient magic to power everything. It is exclusively cable, however - that high magic level also causes crazy interference with any kind of broadcast. Part of the reason they have this system is because local radio gets really messed up.

Which is to say, dragon TV shows are either like "Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Take Cover" or CSPAN (OculusSPAN?). Not that exciting, unfortunately.

Hypothetical fun Sorneith would have reality TV with the deities though.

I was in a chat in the early 2000s, and we were talking about Stargate: SG-1

I made a comment about how all those Top US Air Force personnel had Canadian accents

And somebody was like, "Canadian accents?" He had never noticed

So I said that here's no such thing as English without an accent, and he insisted there was. When I asked him where, he replied, without hesitation, "Boston" (which was where he was from)

I changed approaches and asked him if he thought English people had accents, and he said of course, and I asked him if he thought English people thought they had accents (gambling that he had no grasp of the way the English use the awareness of their various accents as social cues)

after a pause, he said he had never thought about accents like that before

A/N: this came to me while I was drawing my friend from behind...(with his consent. he has a nice form) Also I'm slipping my oc briars in here because I need characters.

"bwuh.... how is writing a letter so harrrrrrd!!" you wail, flopping your head onto the oaken desk. You really did not know why you'd struggle this much on a letter... you wrote those all the time! So why did this one make you rip your hair out and grind your teeth to dust?

"AAAAAARGH!!! I CAN"T DO THIS!!! WHAT IF HE THINKS IM WEIRD????"

"Pipe down, will you. geez. can't a fae catch a wink of sleep around here?"

You bolt upright at the voice, trying to cover what little you wrote on the paper. you would positively wither if anyone knew about this, and if your dormmate saw it? you might as well wear an iron suit!

"h-h-heyyyyyyyyyyy hi hello Briars!! ahaha.. ever heard of knocking?"

"Hey, its my room too. and I never knock." He mumbles sleepily, trudging to his side of the room.

you let out a sigh of relief at his disinterest, turning back to the paper in front of you. You furrowed your brows, thinking about what you could possibly say to the vicewarden without weirding him out?

"Dear Vanrouge, huh...."

"WAUGH!!" you start, crashing onto the floor along with the drafts of your agonizingly difficult letter.

you recover and come to the sight of Briars holding one of the letters, his pale green eyes scanning what little you have written.

"a confession letter, huh...." his eyes soften a bit, a small smile on his ever stoic face.

"I-I-its just a joke...! I-I don't..."

"Vanrouge-san is pretty popular with the first years.. hehe. looks like you weren't immune to his charms either."

"so, this is what's been bothering you? this letter?"

You hesitate, then finally nod. better get the embarrassment over with now, yeah?

BAM! Briars slams your most recent draft onto the desk.

"first off, don't worry about sounding prim and proper with the introduction. a "dear Vanrouge-san" will suffice."

"But-"

"Secondly, get straight to the point. Vanrouge-san isn't one for flowery language. tell him what you like about him and why. be succinct."

"Bri-"

"Thirdly," he eyes you, and you grumble. "you should be honest."

"...."

"I'll help you write the letter."

"no, you don't have to...."

"if it gets me some peace and quiet tonight, then by The Seven I'll help you with the letter."

You sigh, submitting yourself to the inevitable. and under his discretion, you begin to write.
