°â˘IF THE BG3 COMPANIONS BABYSAT YOUR KIDS!â˘Â°
Lae'zel
Congratulations your children are spending an afternoon at boot camp!
You can rest assured they will be treated fairly at least.
No favoritism going on here.
Anyone who misbehaves shall be sent to solidarity confinement and left there until....Idk
If they want a snack they WILL have to fight one another in a duel to the death.
Or at least until one of them falls down and cries.
To the winner go the cookies.
Or more accurately maybe some giant space hamster jerky.
Karlach
This is assuming her engine has been fixed, naturally.
The kids absolutely love Auntie K.
Legit can carry them all on her shoulders at once.
She gives the best hugs too and is always so nice and warm.
She is up to play any games with them! Especially ones where she pretends to be a monster and chases them around.
Very protective of the little ones.
Brings them new stuffies each time she visits.
You MUST remind her constantly to watch her language around the little ones!
Gale
Arrives via magic portal.
Brings Tara to help him.
Takes it very personally if one of the children don't like him.
Tries to impress them via magic and creates a magical illusion to entertain the kiddos.
Attempts to teach them everything he knows about the weave.
Takes it very hard if the children fall asleep during his lecture.
Must be consoled by Tara.
If any take an interest in the weave they immediately become his favorite.
You'll probably end up coming home to your home appliances floating or having some kind of enchantment on them.
Halsin
Yes he turns into a bear and lets them ride on his back.
Most time is spent outside enjoying nature and all of its beauty.
Will carry the littlest one on his shoulders at all times.
Always brings healthy snacks, mostly fruit like apple slices.
Proceeds to take them to a nearby pond to feed the ducks.
Widdles them little animal figures to play with.
No TV or video games. The thought of technology taking over their lives makes him sick.
We play outside or we don't play at all.
Doesn't mind them grabbing at his ears, if they can even reach them that is!
He has to remind one of them multiple times that he unfortunately cannot turn into a dragon.
Sad sad truth.
Shadowheart
Makes cute little flower crowns with them.
Helps the little ones feel better if any of them are afraid of the dark.
Is very good at comforting them.
Possibly might be one of the older one's first goth girl crush.
Badmouths Lae'zel in front of them shamelessly.
Always puts on a tim Burton movie or something for them to watch.
Definitely the reason for any of their emo phases.
They think she's really cool though.
Wyll
Always the first to volunteer to babysit.
Man has the patience of a saint and can handle even the most unruly of children.
Always talks them up and is very careful to never put them down.
Tells them all kinds of exciting stories of his time as the Blade.
Makes sure to adjust them to be suitable for the kiddos.
Leaves out the scary parts.
If any of them are mean to one another and can't get along he's the type to make them each say something nice about the other as a punishment.
Let's them play with toy swords and teaches them a thing or two about using them.
Never raises his voice at them. Is super calm and collected.
Loves them all to pieces!
Also may or may not take them out to get ice cream if they're good.
Astarion
Assuming this is Spawnstarion we're talking about because the vampire Ascendant would just laugh in your face if you asked him then slam the door on you.
Our sweet little spawn will also likely laugh and think you're joking at first.
"You seriously want a vampire to watch over your children?"
Assuming you pay him and be sure to give him big sweet puppy dog eyes he may consider it.
This man is a very not my child not my problem kind of guy.
Gets annoyed with all the children asking tedious vampire questions and responds with very sarcastic answers.
Does not approve of them wanting to touch his ears.
Agrees to let them see his fangs in hopes to scare them (the mischievous little shit).
The children instead think they're cool, which confuses him. He really isn't sure how to feel about it.
Threatens to eat them if they get on his nerves.
Spends most of the time on the sofa, boredly reading a magazine or watching television.
Miraculously takes a shine to one of the younger girls who call him pretty and compliments his clothes and hair.
This is also given the girl is a little mischief gremlin who pulls pranks on her older siblings.
He lets her paint his nails purple or red while she gossips about her mother/father's new partner or her siblings.
Unapologetically shows her favoritism and lets her sit on his lap and watch TV with him.
Will not bat an eye if the other children run a muck and destroy shit.
Legit just keeps watching TV. Probably some drama filled 'reality' show.
He actually finds the chaos caused by the children quite amusing.
One of the children somehow ends up on the roof.
Once the parents are home and it's time to leave. The youngest girl gives him a hug.
His eyes get all big and round and almost threaten to tear up.
Astarion is not asked to babysit again.
Sorry some of them are so short, I mostly write for Astarion so I'm not very confident at doing the other characters.
Hope you like it though!

hello! if memory serves you are the blog that talked about boy band pretty as a marketing tactic (or something to that effect? the search function does not work so if iâm wrong iâm terribly sorry) and i was wondering if you would be willing to find someone from each team (can include prospects if you want) to create the ultimate nhl boy band. this is not a necessary thing to do, solely shits and gigs and if you ever feel like it doing it. have a lovely day!
HIIIIIII that WAS me and you sent this at the perfect time because i am at the laundromat with time to kill and i LOVE to discuss this.... let's chop it up.... a few disclaimers: this is subjective so don't get mad at me and i will be including prospects and ahl players where i know its applicable BUT for most of these teams i will be going off the main roster + looks alone because if i did a full deep dive vibes analysis on every team's roster and prospects it would take me like two months to answer this ask... you understand. we are being SHALLOW here today in the true spirit of the boy band industry. let's go!!!
carolina hurricanes: i know everyone wants me to say sebastian aho but he is 1) too old 2) too unsettling looking. the elf on the shelf is not boy band pretty im sorry đ i do love him but he's just not the vibe here... i will say based on looks either scott morrow or jackson blake and his 90s heartthrob hair. i want to say seth jarvis because he's my special pop pop but that does contradict almost everything i have said previously so i will not be biased but know that if he was a pop star i would be his biggest fan i would kiss his poster. and that's my truth
columbus blue jackets: in the interest of journalistic integrity i went to their roster instead of just saying it's obviously kj as the intimidating aloof one in the boy ("boy") band but actually i do think it's cole sillinger.... teen heartthrob. also i didn't know that he was born in columbus because his dad was playing for the team and his brother is also on the team??? imagine having a whole destiny like that and its for COLUMBUS OHIO đ
new jersey devils: jack hughes. open and shut case argue with the WALL
new york islanders: NOT MAT BARZAL. HE LOOKS 35. STAND UP LADIES!!! lowkey i do not know any of these dudes and this roster is kind of busted as fuck đđđ (NOT ANTHONY DUCLAIR who is too old to be a boy band boy but who i do love) bargain bin team... anyway isaiah george YOU! are the only cute person the new york islanders
new york rangers: matt rempe. those pictures of him lounging around on the phone??? wow. no words. diva heartthrob behavior. it's sad what they're doing to him what are we doing to our beautiful queens :(
philadelphia flyers: after much careful deliberation.... i think denver barkey is taking it. denver is such a deeply boy band name tbh he was born for this!!! i know everyone thinks it's jamie (who i still forget is a flyer đ) but can you imagine him on a stage? singing a song? they are reinventing shoegaze for him. negative star quality (AFFECTIONATE!!!!!!! LOVING!!!!!!!!!!!!)
pittsburgh penguins: well NOW the obvious answer is rutger mcgroarty... not even worth going through that senior center roster when he's there tbh sorry pens
washington capitals: AGAIN. SENIOR CENTER ROSTER. i had to go to their prospects page to find someone suitable and my vote is patrick leonard he's a cutie!!! also im so sorry to say this but my jaw dropped when i got to this guy why are you playing hockey you need to make a children's album RIGHT NOW. i know he could do a banger cover of the We're going on a bear hunt song. but i digress...
boston bruins: matthew poitras is adorable and exudes star quality NEXTTTT. shoutout also brett harrison who looks like a long lost jonas brother
buffalo sabres: JACK QUINNN JQUIZZY HIMSELF partly for looks mostly for vibes... he has extreme "jack dylan grazer vape apology video" energy and also he has that boyish charm... either him or devon levi (hot) not miss owen power for the same reasons as jamie. she could never be a pop star đ ryan mcleod used to be the oilers popstar boy but now he's got too much competition he's a little niche for the title
detroit red wings: my gut tells me simon edvinsson but a look at the roster tells me there is some competition in the form of amadeus lombardi... if we were discussing this two years ago mo seider would be the obvious answer but he's too grizzled now đ
florida panthers: đ here comes another busted fucking roster... i guess denisenko??? panthers are not really representing here....
montreal canadiens: ARBER <3 he's like the bad boy hottie in the boy band. the one that makes your dad shake his head when he sees him on tv
ottawa senators: wow the atlantic division is fucking WACK this was another case of like. okay i guess ill pick one of yous but REALLY? so congratulations jorian donovan YOU are in the boy band
tampa bay lightning: seriously what is going on in this division. jack finley looks like he was the closeted one in a boy band from the early 2000s but he's aged past that now and he has a husband and a wine brand.... so we will bring him back for nostalgia points. welcome to the team. also i have to be honest i thought of myself as pretty well acquainted with the ahl but the SYRACUSE CRUNCH? that's crazy
leafs: JOSEPH WOLL! boyish charm out the ears on that one. a real cutie
chicago: obviously it's bedard. we all know it's bedard. on the surface he has no charisma but he does have a certain kind of shy boy charm and he IS adorable... he's the one in the boy band who makes your mom tut over him like "he seems like a nice boy"
colorado avalanche: wow huge props to matt stienburg for having maybe the single most boy band roster photo i have seen yet... THIS is the guy they get in the boy band because he's already had huge success with his hit single called like, Heart React Girlfriend or whatever. this is jacob sartorius if he played hockey. this is chase dreams. this kid is going places
dallas stars: it's obviously wyjo, joining the ranks with cbedard as The Nice One <3
minnesota wild: okay i was going to say brock faber because every group needs a kevin jonas (SORRY BROCK) but WHO is kyle masters and why does he look like knockoff brendan brisson. budget briss. diet briss. we have briss at home.
nashville predators: this just reminded me cody glass is a penguin now đ anyway the preds have some STRONG contenders here wow.... jeremy hanzel is taking it but i think luke evangelista could pull it off... now if you asked me to be really subjective it would be ozzy wiesblatt who would also be the subject of much poster kissing and rigged "which member of the nhl boy band should you date" tests so i get him as the result but that's just me....
st louis blues: jeremie biakabutuka your radiant smile has charmed me.... welcome to the band....
utah whatevers: MONTANA ONYEBUCHI I AM SO FUCKING SORRY THE SHARKS DIDNT APPRECIATE YOU. BUT WE WILL..... also matt villalta kinda giving off brand kj... you could build a whole off brand version of that umich team just with guys from other teams i bet
winnipeg jets: dylan coghlan you will always be famous to ME but i fear you are a little too old for our purposes here.... other than him they kinda don't have a lot going for them.... brayden yager it is your time to shine as off brand owen power âĽď¸
anaheim ducks: some strong competition here... tz is the obvious choice but i think we need to think bigger... olen zellwegger please step forward....
calgary flames: matt coronato i am free on thursday if you would like to hang out on thursday when i am free and also join this boy band
edmonton oilers: yet another old ass roster đ they're lucky they got so many sabres because matt savoie is saving their asses rn
los angeles kings: angus booth is smizing in every single photo i saw of him so. come on now
san jose sharks: it's so obviously will smith i don't even know what we're doing here tbh
seattle kraken: tye kartye looks like he would be into white water rafting so he can be the nature guy in the boy band.... strong competition from tucker robertson but he's just a touch too gay porn for this vibe
vancouver canucks: JETT WOO... HELLO.... but also shoutout cole mcward for having 2014 gay youtuber phenotype. a connor franta troye sivan type face if ive ever seen one
vegas golden knights: BRISS âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸ my little tabloid queen... not only is he in the boy band but he's in the news and the media. he was born to be a star. natural ham. child actor energy. alex holtz is also a strong contender for this but i think he's off on his own doing his little pop star solo act thing
this took way longer than laundromat time but it was worth it i had so much fun!!!!! thank you!!!!!!
#THIS WAS SERIOUSLY SO FUN and also made me feel kind of mean for being like ummm you're ugly youre ugly youre ugly. but whatever#sorry for the copious amounts of unrelated bullshit also đ#asks

SANDY CHEEKS â y. jungwon
req for 1k event!
PROMPT playing in a playground with jungwon ( based on his video )
PAIRING jungwon x gnr
GENRE est. relationship, comfort, fluff
WARNINGS the words fuck and ass appear once
W. COUNT 0.4k
S. NOTE his video <//3 the title is so goofy omfg
walks along the han river at ungodly hours wasnât new to you, courtesy of yang jungwon.Â
sure youâd stay up until the sun is almost rising, but actually leaving your house was never even an option because, why would you ever consider leaving your warm bed for the harsh cold wind?Â
until yang jungwon became your boyfriend.
your boyfriend who seems to love walks along rivers past 1am where the moon hangs idly in the sky, preferring to walk along the streets without having them filled with people â or worse, kids.
now, relaxing in your bed as you read online was a thing of the past. slowly finding yourself unconsciously preparing an outfit suitable for the weather outside for when you inevitably receive that âbe ready in 20, were going on a walk!â text from jungwon.
you didnât necessarily hate the walks themselves, it was the cold. good thing you had your boyfriend there to warm you, âbabe look! they have a park!â
you followed behind, not like you had much choice when youâre intertwined hands were tucked safely in his jacket pocket forcing you to go after him. sure enough, there was a playground, nothing especially different from the parks that were near your apartment except one thing.Â
no kids.Â
âthey have a zipline i'm going to piss myself,â jungwon screamed, wasting no time to separate your hands and leave you in the dust.
you huffed under your breath, it's hard to complain about the sudden lack of warmth when you have your boyfriend climbing up the kiddie ladder to position himself high with the biggest smile on his face, âwhy can't you say youâre excited like a normal person?â
âbecause it's not as eloquent,â and maybe the effects of being on a playground took a toll on his brain because he blew a fucking raspberry at you. like, full spit and sound, âfilm me!â
âokay, you overgrown child,â you said, pulling out your phone to start recording him not expecting much.Â
maybe, you both should have taken into consideration that you were both adults in a childrenâs playground, so it shouldnât have come as much of a surprise when jungwon jumped off of the mini tower with the rope between his legs to only make it half the way before his feet buried themselves into the sand â effectively throwing your boyfriend down flat onto the ground.
he got up with a wince on his face, patting his pants down as you began doubling over in laughter on the ground unable to hear him whining over yourself, âi think i got some sand in my ass.â that only made you laugh louder, feeling tears ready to fall at any minute, âhappy to see you enjoy my misery.â
âaww, donât sulk sandy cheeks, let's go home,â you patted his shoulder, walking off towards the pavement leaving him whining behind you.
âhey! donât call me that!â

Time and Night Endless have a problem. Their darling son Dream has been dating a man completely not of their class, a shameless and uncouth ruffian, by the name of Hob Gadling. While they did make their disapproval known, they were inclined to leave it at that, as surely this was merely a rebellious phase on Dreamâs part; at some point he would come to his senses, end the relationship, and settle down with someone more suitable.
Except they have heard through the family grapevine that not only has Dream not come to his senses, but he is in fact planning on proposing to the dreadful man. That he has in fact purchased a ring already! Clearly something must be done.
They arrange a private meeting with Hob and offer him fifty-thousand pounds to break up with their son before the proposal, preferably publicly enough that they can be sure he did it, and so it decreases the likelihood of reconciliation.
Hob only hesitates for a moment before agreeing.
Time and Night walk away from the meeting feeling incredibly smug that theyâve saved their dear son from an inappropriate relationship with a blatant gold digger.
Hob walks away from the meeting pulling out his phone to call Dream. âHey love, how would you like to con your parents out of a shit ton of money?â
Three days later, Dream and Hob have a giant blow-up fight in the middle of a friendly gatheringâDesire was there filming the whole thing and had gleefully uploaded it to every social media platform they have, so the Endless parents can see for themselves. Itâs pretty ugly: thereâs accusations of cheating, loud negative allusions to their sex life, Dream even throws in a âmy mother was right about youâ for good measure. Itâs a goddamn disaster of a shouting match that ends in the world's messiest breakup.
Time and Night would be horrified by the scandal if they werenât so pleased with the results. Hob Gadling may not be an acceptable partner for one of their children, but at least he certainly does deliver. They wire the money to him with absolutely no remorse, considering it money well-spent.
A week later, a new video is uploaded to Hob and Dreamâs social media accounts: the two of them side-by-side, leaning into each other's touch like love-drunk teenagers, fingers entwined and sporting beautiful engagement rings, as they announce their reconciliation and engagement.
âCommunication has always been the key to a successful relationship, and all we really needed to do was sit down and talk to each other like adults. Any issues we may have had have been resolved, and if it weren't for the people close to us who didn't want to see us fall apart, we might not be here today,â Hob says, grinning ear to ear.Â
âI would particularly like to offer my greatest, most heartfelt thanks for our upcoming marriage to my parents,â Dream says with an evil glint in his eye. âThey not only engineered our reconciliation, they selflessly gave fifty-thousand pounds of their own money to help pay for the wedding and honeymoon. We can't thank them for their kindness and support enough.â
Hob then grabs his fiance and dips him before kissing the life out of him, and thatâs where the video ends.
Night faints and Time breaks a priceless vase.
(Desire also gleefully shares this video on the same platforms as the first one, and helpfully tags their parents with it to boot. It was actually fun scheming with their brother for the first time in a long time, and they may or may not be planning to stitch the two videos together into a small tasteful movie as a wedding present (and perhaps providing a copy to their parents as well))
-đŞ˝anon
I love the "evil parent offers main character a lot of money to break up with love interest" vibe. Whatever happens you just KNOW its going to end badly for the parents!
And really, they should have known better. Hob is a shameless ruffian and an experienced conman, OF COURSE he was going to pull some kind of trick. He's actually really pleased because he was worried that Dream wouldn't get his perfect wedding, because Hobâs meagre salary won't stretch to a big budget. With the "generous contribution" from mum and dad, Dream can make his gorgeous goth wedding fantasies a reality.
Dream has an amazing time at the fittings for all the wedding outfits, and Desire even has a hand in designing the most gorgeous jumpsuit for Dream to wear at the reception. They're totally invested in this wedding and keep feeding Dream and Hob information about their parents latest plans to sabotage the big day. This leads to Dream getting in touch with their estranged younger brother, who is thrilled to a) be invited to the wedding and b) provide security on the big day! He's built like a brick wall so no attempted shenanigans will get past him.
There won't be any trouble at the wedding, anyway. Hob has a few of his old pals on the job, and they will make sure that the Endless parents are tragically prevented from reaching the venue on time. So sad. Its okay though, because Desire will be putting together a beautiful wedding movie for everyone to watch after the honeymoon!
When asked by their society friends about their new son in law, Night and Time will grit their teeth and smile. He's a very... resourceful man. Not what they'd imagined for Dream, but he seems happy enough. And there was a prenup, so it can't be that bad if (hopefully when) they get a divorce.
Yeah.......they're never getting a divorce!

I can't help it if I like it - M. Martin
Summary: Dhara Nicholls is just trying to make ends meet while working on her Masters degree. Enter Matt Martin.
This is my entry for @wyattjohnstonâs summer fic exchange 2k24! My giftee is @comphy-and-cozy and I hope I incorporated everything we discussed. This is the second longest fic Iâve ever written on here and I had genuinely so much fun writing it! Definitely written with a lot of creative license, not only because Matt and Sydney are couple goals, but also because I completely fudged the season dates. I also modelled Dharaâs degree and work after one of my best friends, and her Sikh faith after another friend, so it is as accurate as I could make it without experiencing it all myself.
I hope you enjoy it C! And thank you to Demi for reading through the first half of this monster!
Words: 13.7k
Warnings: age gap, flirting, pining, extremely slow burn, implied intimate moment, some bad language, changed names of Mattâs irl wife and children
Title from Shotput by Still Woozy Lyrics used from Middle of the Night by Elley DuhĂŠ
~
Waiter/WaitressâŚ
BartenderâŚ
TutorâŚ
BaristaâŚ
CashierâŚ
Of all the things to leave to the last minute. Dhara usually prided herself on her organisational skills, but with her summer internship taking up most of the past couple of months, finding a part-time job to give her disposable income (and food, for that matter) for the final year of her postgraduate degree had slipped her mind. Rents had gone up quite significantly in the past few months, so anything extra she had last year was pouring directly into paying for her tiny apartment, and she needed to eat, damn it.
Unfortunately, now that it was already August, there was nothing truly suitable. She needed flexible hours, that was for sure â some of her data modelling work couldnât just be stopped in the middle of a good coding flow to pick up a shift at a bar. And some of her classes were online this final year, so she wouldnât find it as easy to travel back and forth to a job on campus. Tutoring could potentially work but it would involve a fair amount of planning and structure that she wasnât sure she could commit to.
This was the worst timing. And sheâd sworn to herself that she wouldnât ask her parents for help, not when she was so close to finally finishing her education. But what could she do?
âHey Dhara!â
She turned her head to the side quickly, dark curls whipping over her shoulder, before she smiled. The familiar voice indeed matched one of her former dormmates, Melissa. They had lived on the same floor in freshman year at NYU, but with limited student housing, most of the friends on that floor had gone their separate ways into private renting. Sheâd lost touch with a few of those girls too, after they graduated from their undergraduate degrees, but those she still kept in touch with had carried on their education like she had â only Melissa and another of their friends Janelle had taken up postgraduate study at Long Island University â Brooklyn though, so it was good to see her familiar face outside of the occasional coffee catch-ups, especially after the long summer break.
âMelissa! Hi! How are you?â
âIâm good, Iâm good, glad to be back in the city. How are you? Did you travel back to LA to see your parents in the end?â
âIâm pretty good too, thanks. And no, the internship offer was too good to turn down. My parents went on a few trips by themselves anyway, so itâs not like I missed out on too much time with them,â Dhara shrugged, smiling, âNow Iâm just trying to get myself set up for final year.â
She loved her parents â really, she did â but she wasnât as close to them as she had been growing up. The downfall of choosing to study far away from home. Dhara had barely been back to Los Angeles since she moved to New York when she turned 18, if she was being honest, and her parents valued her independence as well as her dedication to her studies. At least they could rely on video calls to see each otherâs faces.
âOh man, tell me about it. Shitty rent increases, right?â Melissa groaned.
âExactly!â Dhara laughed, âIâm just trying to find something thatâll let me be flexible so I can graduate to the best of my ability, you know?â
âI know exactly what you mean,â Melissa sighed, smiling sympathetically, âIâve got a couple of interviews at coffee chains lined up, but the hours are going to be brutal.â
Dhara grimaced. Yeah, there was a reason she wanted to avoid working as a barista unless there was no other option.
âHey, you like kids, right?â
Dhara raised an eyebrow at her friendâs question. âIâŚdo. I have plenty of cousins who have kids already, if thatâs what you mean. Why?â
âA friend of my roommate works for a nannying agency. Completely certified company, really well paid, you can input your available hours into their website so they match you up, and they cater to a lot of wealthy clients. She told me theyâre opening their books, but Iâm not a huge kids person myself. If youâre interested, I could pass you her details?â
âWait, really? Just like that?â Dhara asked, surprised.
It almost sounded too good to be true.
âReally really. The agency do background checks and would want to see your resume as well as do an interview with you in person, but I canât see you getting rejected from this. Youâre crazy smart and super competent,â Melissa shrugged, smiling.
Nannying. For a potentially wealthy client. There were a whole host of problems that could come from that, with both the parents and the children, but could the flexibility be worth it?
Then again, what did she have to lose?
âOkay sure, pass me her details and Iâll give your roommateâs friend a call,â Dhara smiled.
She could only hope this worked out in her favour.
~
Time was running out, Matt knew that much. There were only a few weeks before the season started up again, and it was beyond time for him to hire a nanny for his daughter. Heâd been a single dad for two years now, his marriage ending mostly amicably. Sure, his ex-wifeâs announcement that she was tired of following him around for his career had been hard, but not as hard as her second announcement that she was following her own career abroad. But sheâd not contested anything he'd asked of her, and hadnât made any unreasonable demands herself, so it was as clean as a divorce could be. Being solely responsible for the upbringing of their daughter Sarah was not something heâd been prepared for, not with his lifestyle. He knew he was lucky that his mom had been willing drop everything and move in with him after his wife left them, but it was time to let his mom live her own life â and for him to move on with his.
Hockey was his first love, nothing would change that. But his daughter Sarah had taken over so much of his heart that he was struggling with the idea of hiring a stranger to take care of her when hockey took precedence. But it was time â for all of them. In the end, heâd decided to go through a reputable agency that a few of the guys on the team recommended, but after three unsuccessful interviews Matt was just about ready to beg his mom to stay a little longer.
The first interview had started well. But it had quickly deteriorated when he realised that they werenât as flexible as he needed. It was fair enough that the nanny wanted set hours â he knew his schedule was all over the place â but he obviously couldnât offer that, so he wished them well and cut the interview short.
The second interview had started bad and gotten worse. He didnât know if it was the way the woman smiled at him when he saw the elegant interior of the house or how she spoke of him being a single dad with a wide-eyed pity smile, but he didnât like the vibes she was sending at all. He didnât need a nanny that was more interested in him than his daughter. No, just no.
The third interview sounded promising on paper. The candidate had all the right qualifications and experience, but when it came down to processes and how she handled tantrums and tears? No way. He knew Sarah sometimes got upset when he was on long roadtrips â it was only natural â and there was no way he was leaving his daughter with someone who would punish her for showing understandable emotions.
So Matt could only hope that this fourth interview â his last for the day before he gave up and started from scratch â would finally be positive.
Dhara Nicholls.
When heâd first seen the name, he hadnât known what to expect. Dar-Rah. That was how the agency lady had pronounced it, so he could only hope she was right â the last thing he wanted was to say the nannyâs name wrong out of ignorance. While he would ask for more detail during the interview, he knew the basics about her from the information the agency had sent over. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, studied BS Computer Science at NYU, went on to study for a Masters in Computer Science at Long Island University â Brooklyn, and was currently in her final year for that. It was the flexibility that he was most intrigued by â and her apparent intelligence. He didnât care that she didnât have nannying experience outside of family. If she could take care of his daughter, make sure she was happy and healthy, thatâs all that he cared about.
The doorbell rang right on time. Good start.
When he opened the door to greet her, Matt found himself freezing a little. Heâd assumed that she wouldnât be Caucasian based on her first name (as much as he hated assuming anything), but he somehow hadnât been expecting the sheer beauty of the Indian woman standing in front of him now. At least he assumed she was Indian â and again with those assumptions. He would have to check for sure with some subtle questions because the last thing he wanted to do was act like an ass. But right now, her big beautiful brown eyes, smooth skin, glossy dark curls and sweet hopeful smile had his mind whirling. What was wrong with him?
âHi! Mr Martin?â
Huh, a typical Valley girl accent. Not what heâd been expecting. Damn assumptions.
âMatt, please. Mr Martin makes me feel like my dadâs standing behind me,â he managed to force out.
The laugh that spilled from her lips sounded like music. He was doomed alright.
âGood to know. Matt it is,â she mused.
âThanks, Dhara. Please come in,â he said, smiling warmly.
The way she smiled as he said her name let him know heâd said it right. Dar-Rah. Beautiful. No, he needed to be professional about this. He couldnât let himself be bowled over by a beautiful girl, not when she was (hopefully) going to be employed by him. That wasnât fair to her. Or to Sarah.
âCan I get you a drink? Water? Coffee?â he offered.
âWater would be great, if you donât mind,â she nodded.
Matt quickly grabbed her a bottle of water from the fridge, before leading her into the living room, handing her the bottle as they sat down on opposite sofas. She was tall even in flat shoes, maybe 5ft10, and she looked around the room with a smile before her eyes landed on Matt. Captivating.
âLetâs start, shall we?â he said, trying to clear his thoughts.
Right from the get-go, she was impressive. Her upbringing in Los Angeles was very family-orientated, living near her fatherâs 3 siblings and all their children, her cousins. Her studies alone were remarkable but the way he could tell how passionate she was for her work was the most interesting part of all. He liked that she could be flexible with timings, happy to stay overnight in a guest room during roadtrips, and she was willing to work around her class schedule to even take classes from his house while Sarah was occupied with something she could still keep an eye on. It was more than he could have asked for, if he was being honest. It was all just a bonus that she was warm and genuine on top of it all.
Matt knew what he wanted the conclusion of this interview to be. Dhara was exactly what heâd been looking for, and he knew that Sarah would quickly accept her too. He could only hope that she felt like sheâd been a good fit for them too.
âIs there anything else you wanted to know?â she asked.
âI think I have everything I need. Iâm not going to lie, this whole process has been a struggle,â Matt admitted, âTrying to figure out who to trust my daughter with is the last thing I thought Iâd be doing.â
âIâm sorry to hear that,â Dhara said softly, smiling sadly at him, âWould you like me to take any preferences back with me to the agency? So the next person is a better fit for you?â
If he hadnât been convinced about her before, he absolutely was now.
âYou donât need to take feedback to the agency, Dhara. Because I want to offer you the job,â he said, smiling.
Her lips parted slightly in surprise, before a wide grin spread over her face. Somehow the pure joy in her expression made her even more beautiful, if that was even possible.
âThank you, Mr Martin. Thank you so much!â Dhara said happily.
âYouâre welcome. Youâre exactly who I was hoping to find for my daughter. And please, call me Matt, remember?â he mused.
âOf course, whatever you wantâŚMatt,â she said, ducking her head slightly to hide what looked like a shy smile.
Whatever you want.
Now that was just dangerous.
~
Dhara felt like she was dreaming. Three days ago, when Matt had actually offered her the job, sheâd felt like her head was spinning, and it wasnât until she had the official contract sorted and signed with the agency that everything started to sink in. He was willing to be as flexible as she needed, in return for her being as flexible as he needed â it was a small price to pay to stay in the guest room when he was away for her to still be able to attend all her classes. The only thing theyâd had to negotiate was her one in-person class every two weeks that she couldnât do online that was outside of Sarahâs Kindergarten hours, which heâd arranged for one of his teammateâs wives to look after Sarah for a couple of hours until she was finished. And wasnât that a trip, learning who he was. An NHL player. She was really going to be the nanny for an NHL playerâs six year old daughter, and she could still complete her degree. Mindblowing. The only thing that was still sort of in the works were the Kindergarten drop offs themselves â she wouldnât be put on the accepted pick-up person list until after a first weekâs trial, just to make sure Sarah was okay with her. It was fair enough, but still nervewracking. Matt apparently had full faith that everything would be fine though, and had already given her all the details. Drop off was between 8.30am and 9am, and pick up was at 2.30pm â Matt was happy for her to work from his house on the days she didnât have to go into campus, to save travelling back and forth, which she was absolutely going to take him up on. It almost felt too good to be true, that everything was working out the way it was, but she wasnât going to let such a good opportunity to balance work and her degree slip through her fingers.
When Dhara arrived at Mattâs house, having been given a brief introduction to Sarah before Sarah excused herself to the living room, she tried not to let the nerves get to her. Matt looked lighter, like a weight had been taken off his shoulders, and she could only hope it was partly to do with her. He might be nearly 10 years older than her, but he was one of the most handsome men sheâd ever laid eyes on, that was for sure. Not that sheâd ever tell her new employer these completely inappropriate thoughts of course.
âNow, I have some meetings and final pre-season things to film and so on at the rink today. Iâm hoping itâll all be done in a few hours but itâll be a good little start for Sarah to get used to me and my mom not being around. Iâve already explained everything to her, and I think she understands the concept of a nanny and that it was time for grandma to get back to her own life in Canada, but if there are any major issues then please call me,â he said seriously.
âIâm sure everything will be fine, especially if youâve already talked with her, but I absolutely will call you if Sarah needs you. And please donât rush home? You deserve to spend some time catching up with your friends. Team bonding, and all that, especially if someone suggests lunch. Sarah and I will be fine, I promise,â Dhara said firmly, but with a smile she hoped was encouraging.
Matt let out a shaky breath but nodded, and her heart ached for him. She could tell how much this was affecting him â it was obvious â but the whole reason for her being here was to make his life easier. She could do that, she knew it.
âSarah, Iâm going to the rink!â
She smiled to herself at the sound of fast-paced walking (not running inside the house was clearly a rule) and soon enough Sarah was clinging to her dadâs legs.
âBe nice to Dhara,â Matt said, smiling warmly.
âIâm always nice!â she said, pouting.
He just ruffled her blonde hair, nodding to Dhara with a shaky smile, giving Sarah one last hug before leaving the house. This was it â Dhara was officially responsible for the wellbeing of a child.
âIâm going back to colouring. You can come if you want.â
How generous. Dhara grinned to herself at the young girlâs candour, following her quietly through the house back to the living room where Sarah had a small stack of paper and colouring pencils laid out. Sarah seemed happy enough to thump back down onto the floor and continue with her drawing, silent but focused, and Dhara watched for a little while from the doorway. The most important thing for today â and the rest of this week â was for Sarah to feel comfortable in her presence. Sheâd never had any problems getting her cousinsâ children to like her, so she could only hope the same gentle methods would work with this child.
Sarah didnât seem to mind Dhara sitting down next to her, barely giving her a glance, allowing her to settle in quietly. So far so good. After a few minutes of Dhara watching her peacefully, Sarah slid a piece of paper over to Dhara, and looked up at her with blue eyes eerily similar to her fatherâs.
âIâm drawing a picture for daddy, to make him smile when he gets home,â Sarah said simply.
âThatâs very kind of you. Iâm sure heâll love it,â Dhara said, melting on the inside at the sweetness.
Sarah side-eyed her briefly before seeming to deem Dharaâs answer acceptable.
âYou should draw him one too. He likes my pictures so Iâm sure yours will be fine,â she said, sliding over the colouring pencil box.
Kids. You had to love them.
âI will do my very best then,â Dhara said seriously.
Sarah just nodded, going back to her drawing with all the focus a six-year-old could. Dhara just smiled to herself, picking up a pink crayon to attempt to draw some flowers. This was a good start, right?
~
The first month of Dharaâs employment (and final year of her degree) flew by. Somehow, everything was going well so far. There were no dramas, no big issues, and her classes werenât unmanageable with her new schedule. She could admit that it initially felt weird to be dropping a kid off at Kindergarten that wasnât hers, especially so early on into knowing Sarah, but that first big smile her charge had given her at pick-up time made everything better. Like, genuinely her heart felt like it had puffed up in size â yeah thatâs right, I made her smile â and everything had only gotten better from there. Theyâd even settled into a decent routine, to the point where Matt even joked that Dhara was becoming Sarahâs favourite person (apparently her bedtime stories were the best?) â and neither of them had even looked at her like she was crazy when she explained her work for her Computer Science Masters like most people tended to.
(âDaddy sheâs so smart.â âI know sweetheart.â âI want to be as smart as Dhara when I grow up!â âWell then youâd better show me the new spellings you learned at Kindergarten today.â)
Sheâd only needed to stay an extra night in the guest room once so far for a roadtrip, which also felt weird, but Mattâs flight had been delayed so there really wasnât another choice. Thankfully, heâd been there by the time Sarah woke up, so there had been no major tantrums, but the bedtime tears were still an experience she hoped to avoid as much as possible. After looking at Mattâs schedule, she knew exactly how many roadtrips he was going to be on, so hopefully she could come up with some ideas for what to do if that ever happened again.
There were many things she was learning in this new world of being a nanny.
She knew sheâd be learning something new tonight too. It was the first game of the pre-season and Matt was in the line-up to play. Traditionally, Sarah always went, and tonight was no exception. Dhara had been hesitant to accept the ticket initially, content with dropping Sarah off with the WAGs she knew and picking her up at the end, Â because she was quite literally just the nanny - but Matt insisted. He also insisted that Sarah wanted her there too, and how was she supposed to say no to that?
The plan would be that Dhara and Sarah would take the train over to the arena with plenty of time to spare ahead of warmups (so Sarah could hold her newly-made poster up against the glass), and then Matt would drive them all back to the Martin house â with the late timings, Dhara would need to stay late again. At least this time she had enough clothes in her overnight bag packed.
Nerves washed over Dhara as she entered the UBS Arena, but with Sarah chattering away, holding tight to her hand, it wasnât too difficult to cover her nerves with a smile. Sheâd already met Kristy Cizikas â the teammateâs wife who covered looking after Sarah during Dharaâs class once every two weeks â so she would at least know one friendly face. Sarah led the way to the family suite, Dhara making sure her pass was clearly on display so no-one thought she was a fraud, and soon enough they arrived to a blonde-haired sea.
âDhara! There you are!â
Kristy. Good.
She was thankful for the instantly-warm welcome â she was so out of her comfort zone that it wasnât funny. Tonight really was her first time being thrown in at the deep end. At least sheâd have a break soon to collect her thoughts when everyone in the suite (who wanted to) would head down to the ice for warm-ups. She could do this. She could totally do this. It helped that Kristy introduced her around the group, Grace Lee in particular making her feel at ease with her beaming smile.
The game itself was electric. Dhara mostly kept her eye on Sarah playing with the other kids in the family suite â you know, as it was her job â but by the start of the third period Sarah had fallen asleep on her lap, leaving her free to watch her first ever game of ice hockey with her full attention. Grace helped her out by murmuring along some of the rules and pointing out names of people that Dhara didnât know yet, and she just felt herself getting fully entranced. Sheâd never seen anything so graceful and yet so physical. And the speed!
Dhara felt like a bit of an idiot for gasping when Matt full-body checked a player from the opposing team into the boards with a load crash, immediately throwing his gloves off to fight him, her eyes wide as Matt easily took him down to the ice. Fuck, that was hot. Why was that so hot? She could only thank her dark skin for hiding the worst of her blush as Grace and Kristy smiled knowingly at her. Whatever, they didnât know anything. They could infer all they liked.
That didnât mean her eyes stopped tracking Matt every second he was on the ice though.
âHow was she tonight? Truly?â
Dhara smiled up at Matt, shifting a sleeping Sarah up on her hip as Matt unlocked the front door.
âShe was so good. The way her face lit up when you saw her sign in warmups? She didnât stop talking about it for ages. And she fell asleep on me during the third period so I just let her nap, I hope thatâs okay,â Dhara said.
âOf course it is. Iâm happy that she feels comfortable enough to do that around you!â he said, smiling.
She was too. She really was.
âIâll put Sarah to bed, if you want to sort out your bandage?â she offered.
The cuts on his knuckles from his fight had needed a couple of stitches and would need to be cleaned then covered for at least one night, heâd told her that much on the drive home.
âYouâre the best,â Matt said, nodding.
Dhara just grinned and headed up the stairs. It didnât take her long to carefully lay Sarah down in her bed, pulling off her shoes before tucking the duvet over her. But as she slowly crept out of the room and gently shut the door, she could hear Matt cursing in the bathroom, and she frowned.
âMatt?â she whispered, trying not to wake up her young charge.
He cursed again, so she knocked on the bathroom door, and smiled slightly as he cursed in surprise and slowly opened the door.
âThe bandage is caught on the dried blood in the stitch and I canât get it off. Donât want to rip it,â he murmured when her head poked around the door.
âLet me?â she offered, slowly walking into the room.
Dhara looked up at him through her lashes, holding her hand out, and Matt silently placed his hand in hers. His skin was warm, if a little callused, and it was all she could do to bite her bottom lip as she gently eased the bandage off his knuckles. Matt didnât take his hand away as she reached for the cotton ball heâd already dipped in the cleansing liquid, allowing her to gently dab at the stitches until they were clean. The two of them stood close together, silent, only their hands touching, and yet somehow this was more intimate than sheâd ever been with any man. It was intoxicating to be allowed to take this level of care with him. It was only when she gently pressed down the edges of the fresh bandage that she caught eyes with him once more, the intense blue making her breath catch in her throat, and she forced herself to break out of the moment.
Because it was a moment, and she didnât know if it thrilled her or terrified her.
âThat should be okay now,â she murmured, finally letting go of his hand.
âThank you, Dhara. I appreciate it,â he said, voice just as soft.
Intoxicating.
Dhara just smiled, nodding her head as she slipped out of the bubble heâd unknowingly boxed her into, and stepped out of the bathroom with a racing heart. She needed to pull herself together. She needed to pull herself together, fast. Otherwise she was going to run the risk of ruining everything.
~
âSo give us the details then.â
Matt took a sip of his beer, before frowning at Casey.
âWhat are you talking about?â
Casey shared a glance with Anders, who just smirked and shook his head incredulously. What?
âSeriously, what details?â Matt asked.
âAbout Dhara?â Anders prompted.
âKristy and Grace told us all about meeting her at the game last week, how she was super sweet with Sarah and how much Sarah adored her. What really caught our attention was that they told us about her reaction to your fight. How her eyes lit up, how she gasped, how she was on the edge of her seat,â Casey said innocently, although the sparkle in his eyes was anything but.
âShut up, she did not,â Matt grumbled.
Their words lit something inside of his though. It was just typical that they waited to interrogate him until they were all six beers deep at Caseyâs house, Kristy and Grace having a girls night slash kids sleepover with some of the other WAGs, including Sarah. They were gossip vultures, the lot of them.
Did she really react like that?
He hadnât been able to get that night out of his mind. The way Dhara came into the bathroom so carefully, like she was trying not to spook a horse. How she held his hand so gently, her skin surprisingly warm and soft. How her cleaning touch was so light that heâd barely felt it, how her ministrations hadnât hurt at all. How her gaze had been so intense when they caught eyes that heâd felt his breath catch in his throat.
Matt hadnât been able to stop thinking about that moment theyâd shared, and it was driving him crazy knowing there was no way she was having the same thoughts.
But then again, if Casey and Anders were right, if Kristy and Grace were right, maybe she was?
âBud, you know Grace wouldnât gossip if she didnât think there was some truth to it,â Anders mused.
He wasnât wrong there.
âDhara is my nanny. Sarahâs nanny. Everything is completely professional,â Matt said firmly.
âEverything is completely professional?â Casey prodded.
âYes?â
At the hesitance in his tone, Casey and Anders grinned.
âI knew it!â Casey hooted.
âWhat happened?â Anders asked, eyes lighting up.
âNothing! Literally nothing has happened. She cleaned the stitches on my knuckles for me because I couldnât get the bandage off, thatâs it,â Matt said sharply.
âBooooooo.â
âSeriously, donât make it a thing. I donât want her thinking that Iâm some kind of creep,â he groaned.
âNow why would she think that, if you werenât having creepy thoughts?â Anders teased.
Matt sent them both a flat look, making them hoot with laughter.
âAww you have it so bad!â Casey cackled.
âYou two are the worst. I donât know why weâre friends,â he muttered.
âYou love us,â Anders grinned, toasting him with his beer bottle.
Matt just stuck his tongue out in response, taking a big swig of his own drink. He needed to nip all of this in the bud. There was no way he wanted this to get back to Grace and Kristy, and then back to Dhara. Absolutely not.
âShe is pretty,â Casey said, smirking slightly, âKristy said her smile and her laugh lit up the whole room.â
âAnd Grace said that Sarah worships her, literally fell asleep on her without a care in the world,â Anders added.
They both knew his weaknesses so well. Matt groaned, tilting his head back, before staring his friends down.
âEnough, okay? Yes, Dhara is beautiful. And smart. And so beyond capable with Sarah that it isnât funny. But Iâm not going to be that guy, okay? Iâm her boss and Iâm not even going to consider crossing that professional boundary, understood? Thatâs not cool,â Matt said seriously, âIâm not that guy.â
âWe know youâre not,â Casey mused, holding his hands up in surrender.
Anders just nodded his agreement. âWe only tease you because we love you. And like I said, I wouldnât have brought it up if Grace hadnât seen something herself.â
âJustâŚdonât make it a thing? I donât want to make Dhara uncomfortable around me. Sarah adores her and thatâs all that matters,â Matt sighed, mostly in defeat.
âIf youâre sure, then we wonât,â Anders said.
âBut we reserve the right to change our minds later,â Casey grinned.
âOh my god, get me another drink,â Matt groaned.
Seriously, the worst.
~
Sparkling lights, tinsel, and candy canes everywhere â it only meant one thing. Christmas was coming. With continuous snowfall and the way that she couldnât escape Christmas songs anywhere, Dhara could hardly deny its upcoming presence, especially with how excited Sarah was getting. As usual, Dhara wasnât going home for the two weeks break, and the moment Matt found out that her roommate was going home (leaving Dhara alone), he insisted that she came over to spend Christmas day with him, Sarah, and his parents.
(âMatt, no, I canât intrude.â âNo-one should be alone on Christmas.â)
He even tried to offer to pay her for coming over, with that she put her foot down. Christmas was Christmas, after all. In the end, they decided that, with her last class of the semester on the 19th, Dhara would stay over from the 20th to the 22nd, until his parents arrived on the 23rd. They would take over taking care of Sarah with Matt not getting home until late in the evening of the 23rd, and then Dhara would come back over on the 25th, leaving again in the evening of the 26th. It was a lot of back and forth, she could admit, but sheâd never had someone in her life so insistent that she spend the holidays with them â and the fact that it was Matt? She couldnât find it in her heart to say no, especially when he got Sarah and her puppy dog eyes on the case.
Somehow, travelling on the trains on Christmas Day wasnât as bad as she feared, even with her overnight bag and holdall of gifts. It was only lightly snowing on her short walk to Mattâs house, so she wasnât fully shivering when she knocked on the door but she was definitely glad that Matt didnât take too long to open it.
âHey, you made it! Why didnât you call me from the station? I wouldâve picked you up!â he said quickly beckoning her inside.
âIâm used to the walk now, and I didnât want to disturb you,â she shrugged, unwinding the scarf from her neck.
âYou would never have disturbed me. YouâreâŚnever mind, come into the kitchen, my momâs making hot chocolate,â Matt murmured.
She left her bags in the hallway after taking off her boots, coat, and woolly hat, nervously following Matt into the kitchen. Why was she so nervous to meet his family?
âGuys, Dharaâs here!â
âDhara! You made it!â Sarah cried out happily.
She knelt down to give her charge a big hug, grateful for the friendly face, before standing up with a nervous smile.
âIâve heard so much about you â Iâm Dawn,â Mattâs mom said, big smile on her face identical to Mattâs.
âAnd Iâm Jim. Itâs great to finally meet you,â Mattâs dad said warmly.
Was it really that easy?
âIâve heard only good things about you too. Thank you for letting me join your family Christmas,â she said, smiling back at them.
âLetting you? I had to practically beg you,â Matt teased.
âBecause I see you all year round â your parents donât get that luxury,â she shot back, still smiling.
âI like you already,â Jim laughed.
âDrinks anyone?â Matt mused.
Once the hot chocolate was passed around, they made their way into the living room, Dhara having grabbed her holdall on the way with the gifts.
âI like your scarf, Dhara,â Sarah piped up, once she was settled on a big cushion on the floor.
Dharaâs fingers brushed over the lightweight blue patterned material draped over her chest and pinned in pleats at her shoulders with a smile. She didnât usually indulge in her South Asian heritage with her outfits, but her holidays it always felt like a must. She might be wearing a casual plain grey sweater underneath, with light wash jeans, but the chanderi dupatta added a much-needed level of elegance â a casual but respectful outfit. Her mother had loved it at least when she called her this morning, and it was nice to know that Sarah did too.
âThank you! Itâs a dupatta â many South Asian women wear them in many different styles. I like to wear a chanderi dupatta, this lightweight patterned silk, over casual clothes to add a little something extra,â she said, smiling.
âItâs really pretty. Never seen you wearing anything like that,â Matt said softly.
âThanks,â Dhara said, thankful her dark skin hid her blush, âI tend to only wear dupattas for special occasions. I donât practice Sikhism as much as I did back in LA, and even then not nearly as much as my mother wouldâve liked us all too.â
âWhy not?â Sarah asked.
âSarah!â Matt frowned.
âItâs okay, really,â she said, reassuring, âWell, my upbringing was fairly mixed. My momâs parents came over from Punjab when they were newly married â my Baba Ji, my grandpa, is an Engineer. My mom and her brothers were born and raised Sikh in Los Angeles. Mom met Dad in university and they fell in love. The only problem was, he was Christian. Or at least, loosely Christian â and very white. While my mom didnât care about all of that, because sheâd fallen head over heels for him and him for her, her parents didnât approve. She left home and married him anyway, and we havenât really seen much of my momâs side of the family ever.â
âBut they fell in love!â Sarah cried.
âCulture and religion are complicated things,â Dhara said simply, smiling sadly, âmy mom knew what she was giving up, she was very brave. She still had a lot of her friends in the community so she had that connection, and Dadâs family is huge and loud and welcoming, so she never felt alone. She raised me with a knowledge of Sikhism and the welcome to join her in celebrating any holidays I wanted to, but my parents left me to forge my own path, which I did. I have some contact with cousins on my momâs side thanks to Instagram, so itâs not all a loss. I like to think I get the best of both worlds.â
She couldnât have asked for more with her upbringing, she knew that. Dhara had been given the world, and been taught kindness for others always, and had an education that others could only dream of, and all the love she could ever want from her parents. She also knew that sometimes her mom struggled but that she had her husband, Dharaâs dad, to rely on for strength. Her mom truly was a hero of hers, and she could only be grateful for everything sheâd done for her.
âThank you for sharing that with us. It canât always be easy, being so far away from your family,â Matt said softly.
âIt isnât always, no. But Iâm following my passion with my degrees, and they understand that,â Dhara nodded, smiling at him, âBesides, we have modern technology, no?â
Matt and his parents just laughed, making her smile a bit wider.
âBut Dhara, what aboutâŚâ
âHow about we give Dhara a break from interrogation and pass out gifts, hm?â Dawn mused, interrupting Sarah.
Dhara laughed, shrugging, Sarah just pouting.
âYou can ask more questions later okay?â Matt said, glancing up at Dhara to make sure she was okay with that.
Dhara just nodded. The way he checked to confirm with her sent out butterflies she tried desperately to ignore. This was not the time.
As they all passed around presents, Dhara had been pleasantly surprised to learn that she had gifts to open too. She hadnât expected anything from his parents but theyâd still surprised her anyway, with a gorgeous earrings and necklace set that felt fancier than anything she owned in New York. Sarah had gifted her a set of pens and a pretty notebook (which sheâd picked out herself, apparently) and sheâd looked so pleased with herself that it warmed Dharaâs heart.
For Mattâs mom, sheâd gifted her a set of Indian spices, because Matt had told her in passing that his mom liked to cook from all different cuisines â so sheâd bought her cumin seeds, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric, and green cardamom. Dawn had looked so touched when she opened them, giving Dhara a big hug that she hadnât been expecting. Mattâs dad looked just as pleased by his craft beer tasting tour back home in Ontario, and promised to give her reviews of every single one.
Sarah had squealed in happiness at the book Dhara bought her. A Is for Awesome: 23 Iconic Women Who Changed the World. It was important for Sarah to learn about how powerful she could be as a woman, and from Mattâs smile he seemed to agree with her.
For Matt â sheâd bought him a cufflink box.
âIâm always losing cufflinks on roadtrips. You remembered,â Matt murmured.
The way her heart fluttered. Wow.
âAnd now you have a place to store 4 sets, wherever you go,â Dhara said softly.
âThank you, this isâŚI love it,â Matt grinned.
Well now she was a goner.
Her last gift to open was from Matt. Again she hadnât expected anything from him â he was opening his home to her on Christmas, after all â but when she opened the instant camera, Fujifilm Instax Mini with multiple packs of film cards, her heart felt like it was going to burst out of her chest.
âMatt, this isâŚwow. This is too much!â she gasped.
âYouâve talked about wanting to preserve memories and I thought this would be a fun way to do it,â he shrugged.
A fun way to preserve memories. A whole ass camera. This was just like him.
âThank you,â she murmured, smiling so widely at him that it hurt.
Matt just smiled helplessly at her in return.
âCan you tell me more about Sikh stuff now please?â
Sarahâs pleading interruption made her laugh, saving her from the explosion of butterflies in her stomach. âIf your family donât mind, Iâm happy to tell you more about Sikhism, sure.â
Dhara looked at Matt and his parents, who all nodded and smiled at her. Well, here goes nothing. Time for a basic lesson in Sikhism.
âSikhism was founded by Guru Nanak around 500 years ago in an area called the Punjab. Thatâs where my grandparents came from on my motherâs side, if you remember â Punjab is an area which spans part of India and Pakistan now, and they come from the Indian side of it. There are lot of different elements to Sikhism, but some of the main things that Sikhs believe are that your actions are important, and you should lead a good life. You should keep God in your heart and mind at all times, live honestly and work hard, treat everyone equally, be generous to those less fortunate than you, and to serve others,â Dhara listed.
âThat sounds really nice,â Sarah said, smiling.
Dhara smiled back at her, heart warmed by the sweet words.
âIt is, yes. I donât attend temple, the Gurdwara, as much as I should, but itâs always really peaceful there. I always try to go for Lohri, the harvest festival in January, and I definitely celebrate Diwali in late October because my family always has, but there are many more holy days that Sikhs commemorate,â Dhara explained.
âCan you tell me about them?â Sarah asked hopefully.
Dhara glanced around the room, seeing Matt and his parents listening raptly, and nodded.
âOf course I can! FirstlyâŚâ
~
âWatch yourself, Matthew.â
Matt lifted his head from where he was washing up, seeing his mom standing next to him with a dish towel in hand. His dad, Sarah, and Dhara were all in the living room still, playing Go Fish, but Matt and his mom had moved to the kitchen to tackle at least some of the dishes.
âWhat?â he said, frowning.
âDonât think I canât see the way you look at Dhara,â she said pointedly.
Fuck.
Matt took a shaky breath and opened his mouth to protest, but his mom quickly shook her head.
âShe is a lovely young woman with a bright future. Unless you can see marriage in the cards, then donât mess her around. She deserves the best,â his mom said firmly.
Oh.
Oh.
âYes, yes she does,â he murmured.
~
With Mattâs parents staying through until the 2nd January, the day before her classes started up again, Dhara had the full rest of the week to herself. The only thing she had planned was getting through work for her Database Management Systems class, but Dawn and Jim had insisted that she came to the game with them on the 28th. That whole evening had been so wholesome; it was clear exactly how much Mattâs parents loved and supported him, and to see his smiling face when they went down to see him after the game? Heartwarming. Â Matt had also asked her to come to the New Yearâs Eve party that Anders and Grace were throwing â his parents werenât going to that, but heâd paid for them to have a nice dinner in Manhattan for their own celebration. Dhara almost said no to Mattâs invitation (because who was she to go to a private event like that?), but when he said that Grace had invited her specifically, she couldnât resist. An invite from Grace Lee to her own party was not something that someone turned down. She knew sheâd made the right decision when Grace texted her to say how excited she was that Dhara was coming, which made her feel like a little bit less of an intruder.
What was it with these people and forgetting she was literally just the nanny?
âYou look nice,â Matt murmured.
âNo daddy, Dhara looks beautiful,â Sarah said firmly.
Dhara laughed, ducking her head shyly just in time to miss the way Matt blushed. Her black sparkly long-sleeved bodycon dress was something that she kept on hand as the only semi-formal thing she had in her closet â so it was really her only option for the Leeâs New Yearâs Eve party tonight.
âYouâre right, my apologies Sarah,â Matt mused, grinning, âYou do look beautiful, Dhara.â
Even if it was prompted by his daughter, it was still spine-tingling to hear Matt say those words.
âYouâre too kind, both of you,â she laughed, shaking her head.
Matt just winked before kneeling down to help Sarah put her shoes on, leaving Dhara more flustered than sheâd ever been in her life. Thankfully they didnât have to wait long for the car service that Matt had insisted on, and soon enough their party of three arrived.
âAh, welcome Martins and Nicholls!â
Dhara giggled at Andersâ booming voice, Matt rolling his eyes fondly as they entered the house.
âThanks for having us,â Matt mused, handing over a bottle of very nice bourbon to his Captain.
Anders just grinned. âYouâre always welcome, bud. Grace is in the kitchen making cocktails for the girls â weâre not invited to that, Matt, but you should definitely head in there so you donât miss any good gossip, Dhara.â
âOh, but SarahâŚâ
âSarah can stick with me while we go and say hi to all her uncles before they get too drunk, hm?â Matt suggested.
âDrunk Uncle Casey is funny,â Sarah giggled.
âThat settles it then!â Anders said cheerfully.
He pointed Dhara in the direction the kitchen and whisked Matt and Sarah away, leaving Dhara reeling. This wasnât what she had expected at all â and now she was being shuffled over to the WAGs like she had any right to be there?
âDhara! There you are! Grace is just finishing a fresh batch of mojitos â join us!â
She let out a shaky breath at Kristyâs happy exclamation, but followed her with a smile. She could totally do this. She could go with the flow, especially with Mattâs insistence, and she could just get back to watching Sarah after this drink, right? If Matt was okay with it?
In truth, nothing happened the way she thought it would over the night. While she did return back to watching over Sarah, all of the other WAGs with kids insisted they she took breaks to enjoy herself because they could all chip in to watch the kids. It did make her feel weird because hello, it was literally her job to nanny, but Mattâs happy face every time she took a break to socialise was too strong to resist. The main thing that struck her though was how much she stuck out like a sore thumb. Not just in terms of appearance â she figured she was going to be one of the only people of colour there â but just in terms of importance? Not even all the team was here â the youngest ones were off clubbing apparently, which made Dhara all the more aware of how intimate this gathering was. She didnât belong here, not in this world. What was her life coming to?
She didnât know if Mattâs presence helped either. All through the night he made she sure had enough to drink (she stuck to water or soda after that first lethal mojito from Grace) and enough to eat. He included her in every conversation, introduced her to people she hadnât met yet, and checked in on her when she was watching Sarah. Every time she could see a couple of his teammates and/or the WAGs smirking slightly â but not in a mean way. And certainly not mocking her. It was confusing to say the least, like the lines were blurring without giving her any way to read the meaning of the situation, and it was all she could do to try to let it go. Matt was just being a gentleman, that was all.
When it came to a couple of minutes until the ball drop though, Dhara found herself squished onto a sofa in front of the TV that Anders was setting up, with Sarah fast asleep on her lap and Matt sitting down at her side.
âChampagne?â Matt said, holding out a second glass.
âI suppose one glass couldnât hurt to bring in the new year,â Dhara mused.
She tried to ignore the way her stomach fizzled as their fingers brushed. Eventually, with just 30 seconds to spare, the living room was packed with party guests, Dhara essentially pressed fully up into Mattâs side. All she could do was remember to breathe, keeping her focus anchored on Sarah to distract herself from the warmth of his thigh against hers. It was intoxicating to say the least, and she was grateful at least for the noise of the room drowning out her thoughts.
â3âŚ2âŚ1âŚHAPPY NEW YEAR!â
As fireworks exploded across the screen and out the windows, and couples embraced all around the room, Dharaâs breath caught in the throat as she looked up at Matt to see him already looking down at her.
âHappy New Year, Dhara,â he murmured.
âHappy New Year,â she said softly back.
The intensity in his eyes made fire burn through her skin, barely softened by the champagne she poured down her throat. The way he looked at herâŚit almost felt real.
~
Dharaâs birthday was always a strange time of year for her. She never did anything massive to celebrate it, just casual dinner and drinks with friends and a phone call with her parents, but this year it fell at the end of January on a Saturday, at the end of Mattâs bye week. He had no other plans that spending time with Sarah anyway, so he gave her the week off to relax.
Relax, hah.
She had her thesis proposal to finish, with the final submission of the full finished thing due at the beginning of May, but sheâd managed to sort out the data she wanted to use in the first half of January â so she was able to use her week off from nannying to finish the proposal. She holed herself up in her bedroom, surrounded by drinks and snacks, barely taking any breaks other than to reassure her roommate that she was still alive, until she submitted it to her supervising professor.
It was worth it, to feel like sheâd accomplished something she was proud of.
Dhara emerged from her âcoding caveâ the day before her birthday, her roommate shoving her straight into the shower while she ordered them both Thai food to celebrate. It felt good to have a little time to actually relax before her birthday, because before dinner and drinks with her friends, Matt had planned a surprise lunch for her.
She should have expected the restaurant he chose to be a fancy one. Sheâd never eaten anywhere so nice, not even when her parents came up for her undergraduate degree graduation.
âI have one more surprise for you,â Matt announced, just as he paid the bill, âif you have time to come back to the house with us.â
Sarah was basically wriggling in her seat, quietly begging please please please, and how could Dhara say no to that? All through the drive back to Mattâs house, Sarah was whispering to him and giggling away, making Dhara smile to herself. Seeing the young girl so excited made her excited â and after the incredible surprise Christmas gift heâd gotten her? She could only hope it wasnât something crazy.
âOkay Sarah, you go ahead and open the door while I make sure Dhara isnât peeking,â Matt said with a smile.
âWhat,â she said flatly.
Matt just smiled innocently, stepping behind her, and it was all Dhara could to do gasp as he gently placed his hands over her eyes from behind. Fuck.
âDoorâs open daddy!â
âOkay sweetheart, why donât you take Dharaâs hands and slowly guide her indoors,â Matt instructed, âif youâre okay with that?â
âYeah sure, go for it,â Dhara laughed.
As if her today could get any stranger than this. So with Sarahâs small hands in hers and Mattâs large hands over her eyes (his cologne smelled so good this close, it was unreal), Dhara was slowly guided into the Martin house, taking heed of Sarahâs instructions not to bash into things, until she was standing in what she was sure was the rarely-used dining room. Matt and Sarah always preferred to eat at the kitchen island, but she knew where this room was. Why was she here?
âReady?â Matt asked.
âReady. I think,â Dhara mused.
Sarah let go of her hands at the same time as Matt removed his, and as soon as she opened her eyes, her breath caught in her throat. What the hell. In front of her, on the dining room table, were two computer screens, high definition and huge, with a docking station and all the appropriate wires to connect them to a laptop. To her laptop? What the hell.
âMattâŚâ she breathed.
Sarah just giggled at her reaction before skipping out of the room, leaving them alone. Leaving Dhara with her mind whirling.
âI know you were talking about how itâs easier to see your code side by side, and rather than doing the split screen thing you have been doing on just your laptop, I thought this would be more helpful,â he explained.
He remembered that from her rambling? He was listening?
âI canât believe you bought me two computer screens. And a docking station. This is too much, Matt, really. I canât accept them,â she murmured.
This was so personal â no-one had ever paid attention to her like this, and it was coming from him?
âHey, no, this is important for you. For your work. I want to make sure that you have everything that you need to finish your degree in the best way possible â youâve done so much for us and I just wanted to do this little thing for you. Besides, you only turn 25 once, right?â
âThis isnât little, Matt. And Iâm just a nanny, Iâve barely done anything,â Dhara protested.
âIf thatâs all that you think you are to Sarah, and to me, then Iâm clearly not doing enough to show you differently,â he said firmly.
The tone of his voice made her shiver in all the right ways.
âMatt, IâŚâ
She trailed off at the intense look he was giving her.
âHappy birthday, Dhara,â Matt murmured, smiling softly.
It was all she could do to hug him tightly, sinking slightly into his chest as his arms immediately wrapped around her too. His shirt was soft against her cheek, that intoxicating cologne filling her senses, so much so that as she moved to break the hug, she impulsively kissed his cheek. Fuck. Dhara froze for a moment, stunned at her own audacity, but as she leaned back, Matt looked just as stunned â other than the pleased smile on his lips.
âSarah! Come and say goodbye to Dhara so she can go out with her friends!â he called out, dropping his arms to let her go.
Dhara smiled at the sound of pattering footsteps, even more so as Sarah hugged her legs tightly.
âDhara! Youâre still my friend too, right?â
Be still her beating heart.
âOf course I am. Iâll be back here on Monday, ready for Kindergarten as usual,â she promised.
âGood. Happy birthday Dhara!â Sarah said happily.
Mattâs eyes never left her once.
~
With only a few weeks left until Spring Break, Dhara didnât know where her final year of her degree was going. She knew she was going to use that Spring Break time to finish as much of her thesis as possible â and she knew she was going to be spending the whole week at Mattâs. Her new computer screens had stayed at his house as there was way more room for her to work there, and the couple of occasions sheâd used them there for her classwork and heâd been home, he always smiled a pleased little smile like he was proud of himself for providing for her. It wasâŚstrange.
Everything was strange.
Since that kiss on the cheek, the dynamic between them had grown even more tense. Every stolen glance, brushed fingers, sweet smile, all felt like she was getting away with something forbidden. If anyone knew the illicit way she thought of Matt, she knew sheâd burst into flames. And it wasnât like she could be sure about how he felt about her either. Sure, he looked â but she was a beautiful Indian woman, and many men looked. It just felt different when she felt Mattâs eyes on her body, that was all.
She knew it was futile though. She was his nanny, nothing else. And she didnât dare mess anything up with her employment now that she was only a couple of months away from turning in her thesis and finishing her Masters in Computer Science. She knew that she had to seriously start applying for jobs for starting in June, knew she didnât want her years of hard work to go to waste â but it was so hard to decide exactly what she wanted when her head was spinning.
In a dream world, sheâd have the career sheâd always fantasised about, with Matt and Sarah by her side. But this was reality â girls like her didnât get the career and the guy. She had to be realistic with herself, otherwise she was going to drown. She knew she had to stop indulging her daydreams and wake up â it wasnât worth the inevitable heartache, as much as those dreams were nice to fall asleep to.
Still, when Spring Break arrived and Matt refused to let her nanny for him, rather than holing herself up in the bedroom of her tiny apartment, she holed herself up in Mattâs dining room, only emerging when Matt dragged her out to get some sleep or Sarah begged her to eat dinner with them. It was a weird but welcome change, to have people care about her wellbeing like that (her current roommate had her own weird work hours), so when she finally came out of her week of thesis writing and showered, she felt more human than she usually did after a data spree like that. It was refreshing to say the least.
âI canât believe you spent your final ever Spring Break sitting at my dining room table,â Matt teased, handing her a plate of sliced apples.
Dhara stuck her tongue out at Matt as she happily took the plate, making him laugh.
âI needed to get my thesis finished as soon as possible so I can work on editing it and proving the data works. And I managed to get it nearly finished â now itâs just concluding it and all the weeks of editing to get done. Otherwise, all the hard work of the past three years will come to nothing, and I wonât be able to get a good job like I deserve,â
âRight, yes, of course. A job using computer science,â Matt nodded.
The way he said it though, and the way he looked like a kicked puppy, made her heart ache. âMatt, you knew I would only be able to work for you for a year. We talked about this, right from the start.â
âI know,â he said quickly, shaking his head with a smile, âItâs just going to be strange not having you around. You feel like part of the family already, and you know that Sarah loves you.â
Fuck.
âMatt, youâre killing me,â she murmured.
âSorry,â he quickly said.
âNo youâre not,â she said dryly.
âI am a little bit.â
Dhara huffed out a laugh, shaking her head. âI love systems analysis and the increase in importance of connectivity to keep up with modern systems within growing infrastructure, and I would love to work in something like that because itâs where my passion is. I justâŚI hope I can find something that takes a chance on a nobody like me.â
âYou are the furthest thing from a nobody, Dhara. Youâre incredible and talented and a beautiful person inside and out, and you deserve the best. Whatever you need, whatever I can help with, I will, okay? References, making calls, whatever. You name it and Iâm there.â
Her lips parted in surprise at his supportive words, eyes stinging with tears, but she found herself smiling. He was such a sweetheart.
âThat might be the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me,â Dhara said, voice thick with emotion as she stepped forward to hug him.
She felt herself tremble slightly at the warmth of Mattâs hands on her back, even more so at the way he buried his face in her long thick curls, and tried to savour the feeling of his arms around her while she still could. How had their time together come to an end so quickly? How was this fair?
âYeah, well, you deserve everything and more,â Matt said gruffly as he stepped back.
If only she could read his mind right now, to see what thoughts were running behind the complicated expression on his face, then she would do it in an instant.
âThank you, Matt,â she murmured.
âYouâre welcome. Make sure you start applying soon, okay?â

March.
April.
May.
His fleeting time left with Dhara was slipping through his fingers. The harder he tried to hold on, the faster the days flew by, until she submitted her thesis and the end was in sight. He couldnât blame her for being excited â fuck knows he wouldnât be sane after all the years of education sheâd gone through â but he couldnât stop the anxiety that built in his chest when he thought of how, soon, she wouldnât be laughing and smiling and typing away at her computer in his house.
The Islanders had barely lost the first round of the playoffs, kicking and scraping to the last minute, and now with the whole summer stretched out in front of him, the thought of spending it without her was excruciating. But Matt knew he had no claim on Dhara, had no right to feel this way, no matter how she looked at him or smiled sweetly at him or that one time sheâd kissed his cheek. She was everything he hadnât known heâd wanted and needed, and now she was soon to be gone from his life forever.
He, Matt Martin, was completely gone for Dhara Nicholls, and he didnât know what the hell he was supposed to do about it.
âDhara, come on, youâre not watching!â
Matt rolled his eyes fondly at Sarahâs petulant whining. âSarah Dawn Martin, thatâs not how we speak to our friends.â
He could see Dhara biting her lip to hide a smile as Sarah huffed dramatically.
âDhara, please will you watch this with me? You said you would!â
âOf course, why donât I just get us some more water each and we can settle in, hm?â
âDeal!â
Matt watched Dhara walk over to where he was putting together lunch in the kitchen, unable to stop himself smiling at her the moment she smiled at him.
âHey.â
âHey.â
She giggled, shaking her head at herself as she pulled a couple of bottles of water out the fridge.
âHowâs it going in there with the Drill Sergeant?â he mused.
âOh itâs tough, but I think Iâll make it out alive,â she grinned.
Why was everything so easy between them? Nothing had ever been this easy before.
âLook, I, uhâŚI was hoping to ask you something?â
Dhara raised an eyebrow with a bemused smile but nodded, leaning against the counter next to him. âGo for it.â
âSo you know itâs my birthday on Saturday?â he started.
Dhara just nodded, smiling.
âOkay cool, so I know you have things to finalise this week, with administration at your university, but Casey and the guys and girls have organised a night out and I was hoping youâd come? So yeah, come out with us, please,â he said, cursing himself for rambling.
âOh, thank you â I justâŚwhat about Sarah?â she asked.
So sweet.
âSheâs having a sleepover with a friend from Kindergarten, I already sorted that,â Matt said simply, smiling.
âWell in that case, Iâd love to. If youâre sure?â Dhara said, uncertainly.
âOf course Iâm sure. I want you out celebrating with me,â he said firmly.
While he couldnât tell if she was blushing or not, the flash of surprise and something else in her eyes satisfied something inside of him that felt distinctly feral. He really was losing his control around her, wasnât he?
âThen Iâll be there,â she said sweetly, âYou only turn 35 once after all.â
Matt just grinned.
Saturday night rolled around quicker than heâd expected. The WAGs had taken Dhara out with them to get ready â the full works apparently, hair, make-up, and manicures, all of which he paid for Dhara because it was last minute â and when the ladies finally arrived to the restaurant heâd booked out for dinner? Well, it felt like heâd been punched in the face. It wasnât that her dark curls were glossy and teased to volumed perfection. It wasnât that her make-up was flawless, full glam like she never did herself. No, it was the emerald green mid-thigh strappy silk dress sheâd clearly borrowed from one of the other ladies. The dress was so dainty and unlike anything heâd ever seen her wear, close enough to a negligee that it sent his mind reeling. He knew she had a great figure already, and that her legs were long and toned, but seeing them like this? It was mindblowing. And, obviously, it had taken everything in his power not to drool or let his jaw drop.
Naturally he missed Casey and Anders smirking at their wives and receiving triumphant grins in response from Grace and Kristy. Dharaâs sweet greeting and warm hug made everyone else in the room disappear.
Still, after dinner and going to a couple of bars, they ended up in a night club nearing midnight, Anders having booked a couple of tables upstairs in the VIP area. The whole group had a couple of shots together, toasting Mattâs 35th birthday, before the WAGs all dragged Dhara off to dance with them. From their table he could just about see her in the middle of the dancefloor, looking like she was having the time of her life, body swaying and moving in a way that had his full attention. Captivating.
He watched her on and off for the next half hour, switching between talking to the guys, sipping on his whisky and coke. But it wasnât until Casey thumped down next down next to him and clapped him on the shoulder with a huff that he realised anyone had noticed.
âCome on man, just go down to the dancefloor and put us all out of our misery,â Casey groaned.
âWhat the hell are you talking about?â Matt frowned.
âYouâre pining after Dhara and itâs driving us crazy,â he retorted.
âWeâve talked about this. Sheâs my nanny,â Matt said sharply.
âYeah okay, like that even matters. Iâve seen the way you look at her and Kristyâs seen the way she looks at you, and itâs not like sheâs going to be your nanny for much longer, right?â Casey smirked.
âOh fuck you.â
âFuck her.â
âDonât talk about her like that,â Matt all but growled.
Casey just grinned, clearly getting the answer he wanted, goading Matt just like he intended. Damn it, he really did know him too well.
âLove you too bud. Stop being a coward,â Casey just snickered, patting Matt on the shoulder, a clear indication to just get out of there.
And if the desire to dance with Dhara hadnât won out, he knew heâd be scowling at his friend. Instead, he found himself drifting down the stairs from the VIP area to where he lasted spotted Dhara in the crowd, and soon enough he found her. She looked like a goddess: swaying from side to side, multi-coloured lights brushing across her brown skin like a Picasso painting, and he felt himself mesmerised. She turned her head slightly at the prompting of Grace, wide smile stretching across her lips when she spotted him.
âMind if I join you?â Matt said, raising his voice.
âOf course not birthday boy!â Dhara said happily.
Matt stepped closer to her, barely registering the rest of the ladies grinning at each other and slipping away through the crowd to leave them alone. His attention was completely captured â Dharaâs hips swaying so close to him were a massive distraction â and it wasnât until a familiar song started playing that he finally looked up at her face.
âI love this song!â she said happily.
Dhara turned her back to him, confusing him slightly, until she looked back over her shoulder expectantly. He knew theyâd both had a fair amount of alcohol to drink at this point, but her eyes were clear enough â dance with me. He could barely control himself as he stepped up behind her fully, hands on her hips, pulling her gently back against him, the soft moan that sounded from her lips making him feel wild. Fuck, he could feel himself stirring where his crotch was pressed just above her ass, even more so as she continued to sway her hips.
âCome, lay me down, 'Cause you know this, 'Cause you know this sound
In the middle of the night, In the middle of the night, Just call my name, I'm yours to tame...â
âMatt,â Dhara murmured, looking up at him.
He followed his base instincts for once, staying silent as he used the grip he had on her hips to spin her around to face him, taking pleasure in the look of surprise on her face and the flash of lust in her eyes, swaying their bodies together again.
ââŚI'm wide awake, I crave your taste all night long, 'Til morning comes, I'm getting what is mine, You gon' get yours, oh no, ooh, In the middle of the night.â
âMatt please.â
It was all he could do to guide her quickly through the crowd to the edge of the dancefloor, to an empty spot against the wall, leaving them mostly in the shadow, the bright flashes of light illuminating them just about enough to see each otherâs faces.
âTell me to stop,â Matt murmured into her ear, hands threading into her thick curls.
âKiss me,â she replied, lifting her head in challenge.
He didnât hesitate to press his lips to hers, kissing her just as sheâd demanded, his heart immediately soaring. Dhara moaned into his mouth, moaned again when he pushed her firmly up against the wall, kissing him back just as eagerly as her hands clutched at his shirt. It was like she melted against his body as he slid his tongue past her lips, fire zipping through his blood, his head swirling. Matt kissed Dhara over and over again, one hand leaving her hair to clutch at her hip, the silk of her dress driving him mad and doing nothing to mask the heat of her skin, and while the music washed over them, he wanted nothing more than to get her away from this crowded dancefloor and take her home.
Fuck, it was intoxicating how well she fit into his arms, how her body was moulded to his, how their tongues danced together as intimately as their bodies had done. In all the times heâd thought about kissing her, about holding her, nothing could compare to the real thing. Nothing could compare to this.
But he needed to know that it wasnât just him, that she wasnât just kissing him because she was drunk. He didnât think he would survive that. The confused noise she made when he broke the kiss just about broke his heart though.
âDhara, baby, I gotta knowâŚâ
He groaned, kissing down her neck, feeling like he was shaking apart at her soft moans.
âWhat, Matt?â she gasped as he nipped at her skin.
âYouâre notâŚyouâre not too drunk right now, right? You want this?â
âMatt, Iâve been drinking water throughout the night between drinks. I want this. I want you. I just didnât know if you wanted me,â she said, shrugging with a sheepish smile.
She didnât know if he wanted her?
He rested his forehead against hers, pressing her fully into the wall again so she could feel where he was half hard in his jeans. Dhara giggled, pulling him down into another kiss with her grip on his shirt, and Matt was all too happy to oblige her, knowing heâd never get enough of her now that heâd tasted her.
âItâs not just sex, baby, I swear. I want all of you,â Matt murmured, breaking their kiss again to suck on the thin skin behind her ear.
âYou promise?â she asked softly into his ear, almost shyly.
âI promise,â he nodded, as serious as he could manage in this moment.
âThen take me home.â
âYeah?â he grinned.
âYeah, take me home Matt,â she grinned back.
~
Dhara woke with a soft groan, eyes feeling gritty and mouth as dry as an old sock. She blearily lifted her head, grabbing the glass of water on the side table and chugging it, body not recognising the weight of an arm over her waist until her head was a bit clearer.
An arm over her waist.
Over her bare waist.
Mattâs arm.
She let out a shaky breath as all the memories of the night before flooded into her head. Dancing intimately with Matt in the nightclub where anyone could see them. Making out on the side of the dancefloor. The two of them leaving the club without telling anyone, barely keeping their hands off each other in the uber back to his. Then a rush of lips and hands and teeth and bare skin, and waves of pleasure over and over again, crying out his name without a care in the world.
It was everything sheâd ever dreamed over, and now, waking up in his bed with his bare body pressed to hers, it was her nightmare all the same.
Sheâd never acted like this before in her life. Never slept with a man she wasnât dating. Absolutely never slept with her boss. What kind of trashy behaviour was that? How could he ever think she was worth his time if this is the way she acted the first time he showed interest? Fuck.
But she remembered his words too. How he checked that she wasnât too drunk, that she wanted this. How he swore it wasnât just sex, that he wanted her. How insistent he was on promising that it wasnât just talk to get her into bed. And in between each of the many orgasms he brought her to, he checked in with her each time, making sure she was okay, just because thatâs who he was.
He was Matt Martin, gentleman under a rough handsome exterior, and he wanted her.
None of that changed her insecurities though, how all of this was so out of character for her. Not to mention, she knew damn well that everyone knew what they did last night, why they left the club early, and wasnât that mortifying? No, she needed some air, she needed to think. And to maybe put on some clothes sheâd left in the spare room because there was no way she could wear Kristyâs tiny silk dress home in broad daylight.
With a shaky breath, Dhara gently picked up Mattâs arm, moving it off of her body, before slowly sitting upright. If she could just stand up without waking him it would beâŚ
âGood morning. Going somewhere?â
Mattâs husky voice made her freeze, a wave of guilt washing over her, before she turned to face him, sheets clutched to her bare chest.
âIâŚI donât know. I donât know what Iâm doing,â she murmured, more honest than she cared to be.
And if that wasnât a metaphor for her life since she met him, what was?
He just frowned, sitting upright, and she couldnât stop her gaze from raking over his chest, his biceps, his shoulders. Damn. âWhatâs wrong?â
âWhatâs wrong? Where should I start?â Dhara said, feeling a little hysterical.
âI thought we were on the same page last night,â Matt said hesitantly, âI thought we both wanted this.â
âWe did,â she said quickly, âI did. ButâŚyou know this doesnât make any sense right?â
âWhy not? You like me, I like you. You want me, I want you. Itâs simple,â he frowned.
If only.
âItâs not simple at all, Matt. Not for me. Itâs one thing for you to have the hots for your young pretty nanny, but to actually hook up with her? And to say you want something more? People are going to think Iâm a gold digger! That I trapped you! That I manipulated my way into your life!â
âDhara, all of that is bullshit. I donât care what people think. Anyone who dares to call you a gold digger is an asshole who doesnât know us. Everyone who knows us knows it isnât like that at all. Youâve already got a job lined up waiting for you with Madison Square Garden Entertainment Group and you only just handed in your thesis â like, youâre going to be making your own money so itâs not like you only like me for that, right?â
âWell, no, butâŚâ
âAnd you didnât even know who I was when you first interviewed with me, so itâs not like you planned this, right?â
âOf course I didnât, butâŚâ
âIf you donât want anything more than this one night with me then obviously I would accept that. It would suck and the last few weeks of you working for me would be really awkward, but damn Dhara, I want a future with you,â Matt finished, taking one of her hands in his, the other still clutching at the bed sheet.
He really wants a future with her?
âYou do?â she asked softly, almost as if she didnât believe it.
âYeah, I do,â he nodded, smiling warmly, âI mean, Iâm not sure what you see in me â Iâm a 35 year old hockey player whoâs nearing the end of his career, already divorced once with a kid who doesnât have an off switch or a volume control, and I have no idea what Iâm going to do with my lifeâŚbut I just know that I want you in my life, however I can have you.â
âYouâre the kindest, sweetest, most handsome man Iâve ever met, with a daughter who loves you so much, and you see me for more than the Indian girl stuck behind a computer screen. IâŚI never expected this, any of this Matt, but I want to try?â she said, biting her bottom lip.
The way his face lit up with sweet genuine smile made her heart soar.
âYou have no idea how happy that makes me. Iâm going to do my best to make you so happy too, Dhara, I swear,â he grinned.
Dhara huffed out a laugh, laughing properly as he tugged the sheet out of her hand and guided her to lie down again in the messy bed, sliding his thick arm over her waist to tug their bare bodies together, lying face to face in the most intimate yet soft way sheâd ever lain with another man.
And in that moment, it didnât matter that her career was just about to kick off while his was in its hockey-twilight. And it didnât matter than he was 10 years older than her, a whole wealth of life experience that she barely had. And it didnât matter what people would whisper about them, or what judgemental looks she was get, or that her mother had never met him, or even that none of this would ever have happened in her wildest dreams.
All that mattered was that he wanted her, in his bed, in his family, in his life.
âCan I kiss you, baby?â
âYes.â

I've never been able to fully get into hermitcraft but I'd realy like to; is there a story or do you think I could just put a random season on in the background while I work?
itâs totally okay to jump right in; there are little plotlines and events that form but it isnât mandatory to be 100% caught up. each hermit has a bit of a different video style, of course, some are more low/high energy; some catered more towards children/adults; longer/shorter video times; though theyâre all suitable for all audiences.
if you really canât choose, iâd recommend watching a video or so from each and finding which one you like the most.
if youâd like to be caught up on all the goings-on on the server, but understandably donât have the time to watch every single video, thereâs a channel on youtube that does weekly recaps. the name (fittingly) is âhermitcraft recapâ, i believe.

hello, do you have any videos or youtube channels recs to learn more about being intersex (that touch on any topic)? if you do, tysm!
I do, thank you for asking! I apologize that many of these are not closed captioned in advance, but I've compiled a playlist of SOME videos that I've seen online. I would like to add some clarification, though. Many forms of media that are available will use the derogatory word, "hermaphrodite", to describe intersex people. Due to its extensive history in medical pathologization, it is considered a slur and should not be used by perisex (non-intersex) people. Reclaimed usage of the term (similar to slurs reclaimed by the queer community) is only reserved for intersex people due to said history. However, medical contexts continue to use it as a diagnostic label, so many intersex people must use it when trying to receive affirming healthcare.
As a result, it's important to be aware of this information when many forms of media, both old and new, contain the usage of this word.
While the word is genuinely relevant for discussions of animal and plant biology, it does not accurately describe the anatomy of intersex people. Unlike animals and plants, human beings--whether perisex or intersex--are generally not capable of having two different sets of fully functioning reproductive anatomy. Sex (for humans) is a bimodal spectrum, and is not a binary. As such, bodies can look many different ways due to innate variations of sex characteristics!
Now, I'll highlight a few specific videos in particular below:
A 2016 TedxTalk by an important intersex scholar, Dr. Georgiann Davis. She has written dozens of extremely important publications over the past decade! Here is a 2011 publication and a 2015 publication discussing the pathological medicalization of intersex people , and a 2016 publication that additionally describes the medicalization of trans experiences.
Emily Quinn's 2018 TedxTalk and her 2018 Ted WOMEN presentation (the second one is captioned). She also has a YouTube channel!
Pidgeon Pagonis has a YouTube channel, and they have been featured in several different interviews across the years during their ongoing advocacy work. They have a 2019 documentary about their experiences, and they have a website.
Here is an archived video from 1997 of intersex people discussing their experiences with other intersex people at a gathering held by Intersex Society of North America, whose work is currently continued by interACT.
In collaboration with Human Rights Watch, interACT worked on a 2017 report and video to raise awareness of the harms of medically unnecessary surgeries performed on intersex children without fully informed consent. The video is captioned.
Activist Sean Saifa Wall has spoken extensively about his experiences on media platforms, and he is a co-founder of the Intersex Justice Project, which focuses on empowering Black and Brown intersex people in advocacy work.
There is a 90 minute documentary that was released in 2023 called Every Body, and it details the life experiences of three intersex people.
While not a video, there is also the personal experiences of intersex youth as documented in a 2023 doctoral research dissertation done in collaboration with interACT: â'Support the shit out of them:â Intersex emerging adultsâ socialization experiences and recommendations for caregivers of an intersex child".
Overall, I hope this is suitable resource, and thank you again for the question!

WIP Wednesday!
Heâs just finishing pouring the scrambled eggs onto two plates when Trunks shuffles into the kitchen, his shirt buttons crooked and his collar messed up. âMorninâ,â he mumbles and climbs up on his chair as if barely able to stand. âToo many video games last night?â Vegeta smirks. âGoten kept winning and I couldnât let that slide,â Trunks huffs and begins to stuff scrambled eggs into his mouth. At least he does have a good explanation. Vegeta doesnât understand the appeal of silly video games but he can appreciate Trunksâ ambition. Trunksâ eyes slide shut repeatedly while he eats his food. Vegeta puts down a bottle of chocolate milk and a bowl of cereal on the table for Trunks once heâs done with his scrambled eggs. âYou need extra lunch money?â âI already used it all up for this month,â Trunks grumbles. âLunch at school is so bad and most of the time I rather go into the city to buy pizza or something.â Vegeta didnât believe him until Trunks once showed him a picture of the school meals: a sad little lump of mashed potatoes, some peas and overcooked meat and a juice box. Not even suitable for Earthling children, let alone a half Saiyan. He hands Trunks a few notes of cash from the stash in the kitchen cupboard. âDonât use it all up in one day.â

Team Black: Maegor with Teats
Not that long ago a made a post that talked about how I see myself as neither Team Black or Team Green since both sides have their pros and cons, but today I saw a video from 'Valaritas' titled "Why Rhaenyra Targaryen Would Never Make A Good Queen" and it not only strengthened some of my points but it also showed me new ones.
The basic point that it proves is, that the show is very Team Black coded and that for the show, the actions from Fire and Blood were town down. So in this talking about Book Rhaenyra and NOT Show Rhaenyra.
So let's summan up the video (more like quoting it, but hey!):
What makes a good ruler? Wisdom, Courage or something else and which one of these qualities did she possess and would she truly be a good queen?
Rhaenyra was a spiteful, jealous and lustful woman and her only basis for succession was her father's words, she lacked a strong sense of duty and her personal desires led her to make a lot of poor choices.
Yes, she was in a disadvantaged position in Westeros because she was the chosen Heir and a Woman, however despite this circumstances she struggled to embrace her role and fulfill her responsibilities.
Being King or Queen is a grave responsibility and requires them to possess a developed sense of Duty so that they can act in the best interests of the realm.
The problem with Rhaenyra is that she has no sense of Duty and often flouts her responsibilities. She wants power, unfettered power without realising that such a thing doesn't exist. She never tried to make herself more suitable for the throne, instead she just expected everyone to obey her as their Queen.
Firstly the books make it clear, that Rhaenyra became the chosen Heir, just so that the throne doesn't get passed down to Daemon, she was the last chance after the death of her brother for her father to make sure that the throne doesn't goes to his brother. Up until the Rhaenyra was treated simply as a princess and hadn't learned much about being a Queen. Despite knowing her father only became the King because he was a man, she didn't learn anything from history and didn't take any action to demonstrate that she was fit to be a Queen.
One of the most significant criticism of Rhaenyra's irresponsibility is undoubtedly her having three Bastard Sons. The Fact that the future Queen gave birth to illegitimate children is scandalous enough but what makes it worse is that she tried to pretend the were legitimate (which worked in the book better than in the show) and threatened everyone who questioned her and her sons.
In many respects her actions bear a striking resemblance to those of Cersei. Much like Cersei she consistently sought to suppress the truth by silencing those against her, for example she ordered Daemon to behead Vaemond and then to fed his corpse to her dragon, before that she wanted Aemond to be harshly questioned when he made similar claims. She went as far as to endorse murder and torture to perpetuate the lie and failed to recognize that illegitimate children on the iron throne would inevitably lead to a war.
At this point we should also criticise Viserys, because similar to Rhaenyra he failed in his responsibilities as the King. He made her path to the iron throne more difficult rather than easier. He did not educate her in a manner befitting an heir and furthermore he sowed the seeds of Civil War by having three legitimate sons.
In a world like Westeros you can't just throw away centuries old laws of agnetic primogeniture, you can't declare that your daughter will me the next Queen and you can't expect it to happen peacefully. He thought by just saying it, the people would expect it but no matter what anyone says, history is written by the victors and if Rhaenyra would have one the war, it would have paved the way for a woman to become the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. That wasn't the case, you can't convince anyone by saying that your father wanted you to be Queen, when the eldest son has been on the throne for years.
It actually shows their inability to understand the world around them. They both failed to make tough but essential decisions. When Alicent gradually took over the small council, Rhaenyra should have thought about taking decisive action to protect her claim, instead she decided to stay in Dragonstone (a major mistake by her). While there is nothing wrong for the rightful Heir to reside there, she wasn't a typical Heir. She should have been by her father's side from the beginning, engaging in political maneuvers but instead she allowed the Greens to gain more influence in the council and the capital.
She was either naive or some might say foolish and to some extent overly self-absorbed for thinking that the realm would accept and love her just because she was the chosen Heir of King Viserys Targaryen.
Some might argue that if the Greens would have done nothing and had Rhaenyra become Queen that there wouldn't have been a War, which might be true in some extent, as King, Viserys and Rhaenyra had a responsibility to prevent succession crises that could tarnish the heir's claim.
Many of Rhaenyra's problems stemmed from her assumption that she wouldn't encounter resistance for the throne or her disregard for how her actions could be used against her. If she had been more strategic she could have consolidate her power, but she created problems for herself by believing she had an unquestionable right to the throne.
If the event of the Dance of the Dragons didn't happen or didn't play as they did, she would have been at least a mediocre Queen, but it's important to note that it's easy to be a good ruler when your playing on easy mode in a peaceful and prosperous realm with no opposition and all you have to do is not screw it up (this goes for both Rhaenyra and Aegon).
When we look at Rhaenyra we can she an entitled woman who often prioritizes her own desires and interests over the wellbeing of the realm. She had three obvious bastards, displayed unnecessary cruelty to her enemies and married Daemon during a politically tumultuous time without regard of her recently deceased husband (in the book he really was killed).
Above all else she consistently avoids putting herself in harms way to advance her cause, leading to disastrous consequences such as Rhaenys's (and may more) death. Moreover she doesn't know how to please and get along with those around her, often appearing stubborn and spiteful. She lacks skills in navigating political situations, she's not adept at fighting or commanding and she fails to effectively utilise people who could support her.
She doesn't seem to have a clear plan in her mind and when her carelessness combined with her growing paranoia following the loss of her children, it became evident that she no longer could be a good Queen. In her short time in King's Landing she began to see enemies all around her and couldn't handle the pressures of being a Queen.
Her attempt to imprison Addam Velaryon solely based on insanity and paranoia is a clear example of her unsuitability for the throne. She is a woman that sought power for its own sake, believing it was her rightful claim, a similar sensebof entitlement can be seen in Daenerys as well (Valaritas has another whole video about that, so feel free to check that one out).
At the end of the day the books may have a bunch of rumours that sometimes exaggerated a lot but still there is a reason why she's called MAEGOR WITH TEATS.
While King's Landing was suffering from starvation, she hosted an extravagant part for her son Joffrey's birthday. She increased taxes and earned the nickname "Maegor with Teats", reflecting her all harsh actions without remorse. She never cared enough about the realm and it's people and she always prioritised her own desires.
This is why Valaritas and I think that (Book) Rhaenyra could never be a good Queen.
P.S.: I wrote this not the minor the work of Valaritas, especially because I basically wrote word for word what he said. His summary is just to perfect to phrase it any different and I for myself am a person that overall enjoys reading something like this more that just clicking on a YouTube link in a post. Non the less I'm putting the video down here for those that rather watch the video then read my text version (with slightly different words here and there)

TTTE/RWS Headcanons: Tabitha
Tabitha is a cat who appears in a TTTE annual story called âGordonâs Stowaway.â I just really like playing around with the idea of a railway cat who adores Gordon (and whom Gordon adores in return, lol)!
ââââââââââ -Within Tabithaâs first week in Tidmouth Sheds, a workbench became swamped with cat toys brought in by cleaners and engine crews. Yarn, felt mice, battery-powered doodads â you name it!
-This is partly because of Tabithaâs inherent cuteness. Itâs also because NWR employees discovered bringing a new toy was the fastest way to curry favor with Gordon.
-Gordon insists on inspecting every new toy, ensuring itâs âsuitableâ for her. Nine times out of ten, he accepts this latest tribute with the loftiness of a medieval lord.
(-The one time out of ten is anything with catnip. Gordon still hasnât recovered from what he calls The Incident.)
-But Tabithaâs favorite toy is a simple feather. The engines take turns having someone lay it across their funnels. Then, they let off steam. The feather goes flying and she jumps after it.
-Tabitha doesnât share Gordonâs musical tastes. The first time they put on his tape of The Magic Flute, she hid under his buffers for an hour. Still feeling guilty, Gordon now refrains from playing his opera tapes whenever sheâs there.
-The others sometimes exploit this, coaxing her into the sheds so they donât have to listen to the âNight Ariaâ for the hundredth time.
-She seems indifferent to the other enginesâ preferences, as long as itâs at a reasonable volume. With Jamesâ jazz CDs, however, she curls up on her cushion and goes straight to sleep. James and Gordon still bicker over whether sheâs comfortable or bored by his music.
-If one of them is in a bad headspace, sheâll sit with them on their running board and purr. Nobody knows how she knows, but itâs clear she has a sixth sense for it. And she always makes them feel better.
-Tabitha has her own YouTube channel! Run by a cleaner at the sheds, it mostly consists of short clips: chasing birds, slow-blinking at the person behind the camera, playing with string, etc.
-For a short while, none of her viewers knew she was the NWRâs cat. That changed with a video of her running to Gordon as he came back to the sheds, meowing at him.
-(Not only did the video go viral, but the moment Gordonâs face lit up upon seeing her became the most viewed part of the video.)
-Tabithaâs Internet fame has since been used to spearhead various causes: fundraising for other heritage railways, railway safety campaigns, and so on.
-Thomas also has a tongue-in-cheek, one-sided rivalry with Tabitha over who should be the mascot of the NWR. Itâs mostly something he plays up to amuse visiting children or to spur on fundraising. (The others make sure he doesnât get too into it, though.)
-When thereâs no mice to chase out of the sheds, Tabitha joins Gordon on his morning trains. A porter brings along her cushion, from which she watches the scenery go by. The coaches adore her and scold any passengers who disturb her.
-The first time Gordon had to go to the works after Tabitha settled in, he figured she would be fine at Tidmouth in his absence. The others would care for her.
-And they did. So much so, in fact, that they caved to her mournful meowing and pacing in Gordonâs empty berth. Gordon couldnât be upset after Henry explained this to him, Tabitha jumping into his cab.
-Tabithaâs clinginess is her one bad habit. Since she canât always be at the works with Gordon, everyone does their best to keep her occupied and happy. Even the Fat Controller will slip her a treat.

What is Cleansing? The how-to's and methods
The act of removing unwanted energies from a person/place/object.
Cleansing is generally a gentle form of removal, whether it be spiritual or mundane (can also be a very in-depth and harsh process).
Instead of forcefully removing an influence or spirit, you simply brush the energies out of your space.
This process is useful for ensuring that you, or the things near you are clear of energies that could negatively impact you.
Itâs useful for creating a blank slate in your environment or preparing tools for spell work and keeping your energy stable and healthy. Negative energies and clutter can impact your spiritual, physical and mental health.
Regular spiritual and physical upkeep is important to keep you balanced and healthy. Spiritual hygiene is a generally important practice for all practitioners. I'm going to share a few ways to do so from my own practice.
Try your best to cleanse every room, not just a single room. Ever had a space so clean but the rest of your house feels gross? It'll be off-balanced that way and it'll be the same way spiritually. However, if you can't you can't. Do what you can, that's what's important.
Remember mundane cleaning is just as good as spiritual. You can smoke cleanse that room all you want but if you still have things all over your floor and molding dishes in your sink, that's still going to bring in both negativity and health consequences. Cleanse responsibly.
Spiritual
Sound - Using a singing bowl, bells, music, chimes, drums, clapping, singing, chanting. A trusty old sound bowl cleansing video on YouTube being openly played in whatever space does the trick just fine.
Smoke - Burning incense with corresponding herbs or herbal bundle. Remember to open a window for negative energy to escape and for safety. Smoke inhalation is generally not a good practice for your lungs. Also, be careful with pets as they have sensitive respiratory systems.
Spray - Infused distilled water with corresponding herbs, oils or salts sprayed around the room to both cleanse and bring in the desired energy. Again be cautious around pets.
Candle - Charging a white candle with intent, dressing it with oils and burning it down to clear your space. Keep away from pets and small children, burn in a fire-safe dish or on tile.
Sunlight/moonlight - Opening your blinds to let solar energy and moonlight to cleanse a space. Only really suitable for that singular space with a window.
Simmer pot - A boiling pot of water over a stovetop filled with intention filled corresponding herbal components that lets off a fragrance to clear the air of negative energy. You can use blessed water for an extra punch if you wish.
Crystal grid - Setting up a crystal grid of crystals for cleansing that room or your house of negative energy. You can either intuitively make your own grid or find one online. Selenite towers as well are lovely for purifying spaces along with being self cleansing. You can use any piece of cleansing corresponding crystal to cleanse but remember you will generally have to cleanse the crystal afterwards to get out any energetic gunk from it.
Salt - Putting out a bowl of salt in what room youâd like to cleanse. Personally I like putting little shot glasses of black salt in high traffic rooms such as shared spaces as I find it packs a punch due to its associations. However do please be careful with salt with pets. Pets have been known to get into things like salt lamps or salt in general and have had very bad health consequences. So please be cautious.
Energy - Your own spiritual energy. You can use energy work to create bubbles of energy around yourself to push out into your space, to burn up and cleanse the energy around the space. This is more of a hard-hitting cleansing method and can be described as banishing. It can also be energetically taxing for fellow spoonie witches or those with small energy reservoirs. Drink plenty of water, have a snack and rest after.
Physical
Vacuum or sweep - Sprinkle sea salt and corresponding herbs on the floor to soak up negative energy. Vacuum or sweep up and dispose of for removal. Historically speaking you move from the back of your house to the front so you can push everything out of your house.
Washing - Physically washing down doorframes and windows with sacred water (holy water, spring water, moon water) and corresponding herbs. Youâd go from the back of your house to the front.
Floor wash - Try out a floor wash charged with the intent to wash your floors to fill your space with a spiritual purpose. Get that grime off your floor while reaping both mundane and magical benefits. Youâd go from the back of your house the front.
Opening a window - Open that window. Not only will your space be less stuffy but it lets in needed fresh air. If you're in the city near fumes it's a bit harder. Try to get an air purifier if you can, it's very helpful and health-changing.
Shampooâs and Soaps - For physical cleansingâs try finding herbal based soaps or shampoo with corresponding herbal components for self based cleansing and purifying. For instance I use shampoo with Tea Tree, Lemon and Sage. Itâs purifying and I pair it with a Rosemary conditioner for protection. Get creative!
Cleaning products - Cleaning products with lemon for example have been used historically for cleansing and purification. Let the citrus scent leave your space feeling clean and purified with intent. Can either be naturally made with vinegar or store-bought. Either is perfectly fine. Sometimes natural and handmade is good but if you are someone who needs a bacterial spray, it's best to just buy storebought.
Recipes
All-Purpose Cleaner
What you'll need:
One part white vinegar
One part water
Dried Lemon rind - cleansing, purifying
Dried Rosemary sprigs - protective, healing
Combine the above ingredients together, pour into a spray bottle, shake, and then let infuse for a week before using. Strain out the lemon and rosemary. This is great for bringing in purifying energy into your house along with protective properties.
Caution: Do not use acidic cleaners on granite, as they will etch the stone and proceed cautiously on stainless steel. Some manufacturers recommend against using vinegar on their appliance surfaces. Know what's suitable and what's not.
Glass cleaner
What you'll need:
2 cups water
1/2 cup white vinigar
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol 70% concentration
Dried Orange peel - smells good and brings prosperity
Combine the above ingredients together, pour into a spray bottle, shake, and then let infuse for a week before using. Strain out the orange.
Cautions: Avoid cleaning windows on a hot, sunny day or in direct sunlight, because the solution will dry too quickly and leave lots of streaks.
Home Blessings Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner - Not for wood floors
Ingredients
1 cup distilled water
1/4 cup Castille soap
Dried Lavender buds - peace, relaxing
Dried Orange peel
Dried Rosemary sprigs
Directions
In a smaller pot boil together distilled water with the herbal components then strain.
Mix the ingredients and infused water with 2 gallons of hot water to incorporate in a bucket to mop away dirt and grime on tile, vinyl, or linoleum floors.
Remember, store-bought is fine. Look at the ingredients of what you'd like and use your intention. Sometimes making yourself takes up a lot of time and spoons. It's your craft, your rules.

I don't buy the relevancy. Kyle is now best friends with Tolkien and Stan is jealous, even though for the past season we had Stan and Tolkien bond and even in this season they will continue to be a duo. This really seems like a filler. S26E2 The Worldwide Privacy Tour is FILLER
I really like the part when the prince and his wife move into Liane's old house, as they make use of the house being empty for the duration of the Hot Dog home story arc, but as they move out by the next time the house will be used, the impact is nonexistent. S26E3 Japanese Toiler is FILLER
How I would have liked if the shooting turned out to be a season-long mystery of who shot Randy, I was looking at the characters of the crowd for way too long guessing, before I realized everything is pointless in this one. Well, not the real world message, but the in-universe events. S26E4 Deep Learning is CANON
The easiest type of episode to recognize as canon is a relationship centered one. We get our confirmation that Stan's attempts - from S20E7 The Very First Gentlemen Oh, Jeez - to change and win Wendy over worked out. Bebe/Clyde are together as well, as are Herbert/Rick. S26E5 DikinBaus Hot Dogs is CANON
While this is the end of the Hot Dog era, it ends in a way, that counts as loss for Eric, still feeding into the idea of how easily he can lose everything and end up being homeless. S26E6 Spring Break is CANON
For Herbert is falling back into his old ways of campaigning, and depending on what happens in real life, this could have a ton of unwanted consequences... S26E7 Joining the Panderverse is FILLER
It's mostly parallel universe stuff, while Randy fixes an oven. S26E8 (Not Suitable For Children) is CANON
Roger Donovan finds a new partner by the name of Janice, and it seems like she's here to stay. Snow Day is FILLER
Yeah, no... This is the latest season anyway, but I don't believe Mr. Hankey would ever return on the show, end of story. If he does, and thus this video game becomes canon, I will change this post to include that. S26E9 The End of Obesity is FILLER
I have a feeling, that the "never mention Eric's weight again" idea will be forgotten like the numerous times Eric promised not to rip on jewish people anymore.

Overall: 167 out of 329 Personal Note: I'm almost certain we'll have another special that I'll add to this season and I'm almost certain it'll be election-based and therefor canon. When it happens, I'll be back to edit this post. This one is basically just me predicting the future, but to be fair, they are pretty safe bets.
