Initially I picked these two because I liked the contrast, and it wasn't until I started to write the tags that I realized how appropriate they are as a pair.

The first is from the beginning of the journey with V, and the second from the last moment before she bids V good night in the safe house.

I wrote a little bit about the first one and how much I love it, and here's the dialogue that immediately precedes it. We get to see her completely vulnerable in this scene. She admits she can't trust anyone and she doesn't know what to do. She feels helpless.

But the second one... when V says it doesn't seem like she misses D.C. and her only response is "Hm" and that smirk.... What does that mean, Rosalind?

Is she missing the freedom of private life? Could the action of the day have made her nostalgic for her past life in the Marines?

Though it seems she has mixed feelings in about her time there, as earlier she can say, "One learns things in the army, in spite of oneself."

"In spite of oneself" is not a ringing endorsement, not to mention calling it "the army". Would a Marine call it that? I'm skeptical. Either it's sloppy writing, or it's an intentional call out to her ambivalence about the time she served by not honoring the institution with its proper name.

Theme: Small Town Games

Hello friend, I think I have a few games that might work out for you. Some are collaborative, some are petty, and some are in small towns but the focus in on something a little different.

Turn, by Beau Jágr Sheldon. @beaujagr

Turn is a slice-of-life, rural supernatural tabletop roleplaying game for three to six people. Players are shape-shifters in a small, rural town--able to turn into animals like raccoons, cougars, and bears. They must balance their human lives and habits with their beast lives and instincts, while pursuing acceptance and community with other shifters - and with the mundane humans and beasts that populate the town. 

Players and the Town Manager build their town together using a unique town building system, and create the characters who populate it and the wilderness around it. Turn uses the Script Change toolbox to support player comfort and consent, and explores themes of identity, community, self care, and otherness.

Turn is a rural game that adds a supernatural twist in that your characters are all shapeshifters. The small town is meant to be a setting that will likely challenge your characters and provide emotional growth. The game itself is written very carefully, with essays sprinkled throughout to help you navigate difficult topics that may arise within the game.

Unincorporated, by Ethan Harvey.

An optimistic person might call this place a town. It has a name, a gas station, a few stores. It just doesn’t have many people. Which makes these other losers still hanging around here important. The same few people are your co-workers, your neighbours, your dating prospects, the folks you run into everywhere.

"Friends" might be a stretch, but they know you. Or at least they know who you used to be. They know about all the stupid things you’ve done, and they won’t let you forget it. Nobody gets a clean slate here. But maybe you can shake off your reputation and become something new.

Unincorporated is a collaborative, mostly-GMless story game for 3-5 players who take on the roles of ordinary people caught up in petty rivalries, long-held grudges, intense frenemyships, and hopeless love affairs, all while trying to shake off the weight of expectations.

If what you really want is small-town drama, this might be the game for you. The basic rules are inspired by Powered by the Apocalypse games, and the settings are flexible - you can use a pre-suggested playlet, or build a setting of your own. This means that the game can also be used alongside another ttrpg, if you want to experience the intricate lives of the town your characters live in alongside their larger-than-life adventures.

The Woman of Sayora Village, by luciellaes.

Your country has been at war for several months now, closing on a year. Your village feels empty. Anyone capable of fighting has long since been taken far from home, leaving more than enough work for those left behind. For some, that work is a welcome distraction from the pain and fear of separation, while for others the added burden is overwhelming enough of itself.

Your village feels different. Most of the departing soldiers were men, and those who remain are mostly women, the young and the elderly. Until it happened, you had never quite grasped what a difference this would make. Toxic behaviours that were once tolerated or even celebrated are now shunned and punished. Feminine rituals and celebrations that had begun to fade into obscurity have seen a startling renaissance. Formerly taboo subjects can be discussed openly in the fields and on the streets.

Perhaps when the war ends, things will return to the way they were. Perhaps not. In the meantime, there remains much work to be done.

This is a very specific setting for a small-town game, namely in that it is about a town during a difficult time, and without almost half of its population. This game is also highly interpretive, because it uses a deck of tarot cards, which you will have to interpret as you draw them. The game is also GM-less, which means that everyone at the table will fill similar roles.

I Went To Bourbon, Indiana Once, by Beth and Angel Make Games.

I Went to Bourbon, Indiana Once is a hack of I Went to Seattle Once by Lucky Newt Games which is itself a hack of I Went to Japan Once by James Lennox-Gordon. As per the original, you are friends, family, or perhaps random strangers bored in line at a gas station who all suddenly realize you've been to Bourbon, Indiana, a small little town without much to do. Did you visit either (or both!) of the town's dollar stores?Check out the town gazebo, a local hangout spot? Or perhaps you hit up the Redbox kiosk and relaxed for the night.

Players roll dice and share experiences blending the results of two separate tables, but once too many players tell the same stories over again (as we Midwesterners are wont to do), everyone goes their own way and the reminiscence concludes.

As a game about the traveler's experience of a small town, rather than a resident’s, I went to Bourbon, Indiana Once may provide a unique take on the theme of small-town games. The game includes a number of prompts to provide you with events that happened during your stay, and that’s about it. I think that would make this game pretty hack-able for any small town that you can dream of - and it might also make this a great mini-game to put inside a larger campaign.

Our Town, by Miles Kirk.

Our Town is a theatrical 1 page tabletop roleplaying game with no dice, no masters.

Players take on the roles of citizens in a small town and play through snapshots of their lives from adolescence, to adulthood, to one of their deaths.The game can be played with 3+ players and can take 2-4 hours depending on the size of the group. It provides the opportunity to explore many different subjects surrounding everyday life; safety tools are strongly encouraged during play.

The creation of the town you live in is essential to the play experience of this game. You’ll come up with some basic details about the layout and buildings of the town, but you’ll also populate it, creating relationships between the residents and following them through a day in their life. Then the game moves out to observe the town in the long-term, asking what happens over the course of 10 years, as well as what happens when prominent characters die. If you want a game that looks at the bigger picture rather than a play-by-play, this might be the game for you.

Little Island Gift Shops, by astoryinpieces.

In this cooperative roll-and-write dice game, 2-4 players are members of the Little Island community, a place that puts helping your neighbors at the front. Each day, they'll decide how much time to spend diving for ocean goods to sell in their individual gift shops on the island. Unused goods are shared with neighbors, or can even be returned to the ocean as decorated gifts in order to receive its blessing. However, Little Island is only bountiful and strong when everyone uplifts each other! So organize your shop carefully, be respectful of your ocean home, and never be afraid to help your neighbour~

This game feels a little bit like a board-game, asking players to weigh decisions of different numbers of dice rolled, as well as strategize to determine which shop owner gets which trinket. The end of the game also asks the players to tally their scores, with the lowest player’s score setting the score for the whole group. As a result, this game should encourage everyone to work collaboratively, in such a way that the community succeeds as a whole.

Okay, so you remember how in episode 4, Angel comes back from work and has a mental breakdown in front of Husk? Well instead of that interaction being just between those two, reader sees how uncomfortable Husk is with Angel’s excessive flirting and decides to step in on his behalf when they see things escalating. Reader can be gender-neutral and is kind of a goodie-goodie☺️. Angel, in turn, sees this and acts the same way towards reader, flirting and getting all touchy with them, but reader automatically shuts this down, basically saying that he’s being disrespectful and crossing boundaries, etc etc. Angel, shocked at being called out, gets pissed off and says some pretty rude, hurtful things towards reader while also mocking them for being too “goodie-goodie”, especially in hell (ouch😣 but for the sake of the plot, Angel’s just secretly hurt by what reader said and acted out in the heat of the moment). Reader tries not to be so openly hurt by what Angel has said, but can’t help but be bothered by it. It’s one of their biggest insecurities, trying to fit in and do what they think is the right thing, but no matter what, they still feel like they’re doing everything wrong and will end up alone (godDAMN🥲).

Anyway, reader walks away, upset, wanting to isolate themselves in their room, but Charlie sees this and decides to comfort them. They both have a heart-to-heart and Charlie tries reassuring them that Angel didn’t mean what he said. Reader knows this, deep down, but reveals that the real reason why they’re so upset is because of those insecurities, and lately, they’ve developed some serious feelings toward Angel, so to hear him say those things, hurts. Charlie, surprised to hear this, thinks that the best thing to do is talk it out with him, and tell him how they feel. Reader isn’t so sure, but decides it might be worth a shot.

Surprisingly though, Angel finds them first and hesitantly asks to talk. Long story short, after his outburst, Husk is the one who talked some sense into him, saying that it’s rare to find a genuinely good soul down here, and that’s something you don’t wanna lose (wise words Husk😔🤚). So Angel apologizes and they both have a heart-to-heart, with reader explaining why they felt the way they felt with their insecurities. That they didn’t mean to overstep, but at the same time, genuinely care for Angel and would like to get to know him more. Angel is shocked at hearing how deep their insecurities were and how much he could relate to them, but is also kind of flustered at how sweet and honest they feel about him. Angel being the little shit he is though, teases them and says something along the lines of “well, if ya wanted to butta’ me up dollface, ya definitely know what ya doin’”😏😉 And reader is just like “omg, shut the fuck up pleasee”😳 lmaoo. In the end, they share another soft, cute moment and Angel gives reader a smooch on the cheek, being like “by the way, I like ya too”😘😉

TIPS FOR LYING ONLINE:

If you don’t have a source make one up. I’ve sourced complete lies that are proven as lies if you click the article im “referring” to but nobody ever does.

Similar but different: the turning in a corrupted word doc because you didn’t finish your essay hack. Step one is providing a source no one will check. Step two is providing a source that could conceivably be checked but now gives you a 404 page, possibly due to how controversial the information is, possibly due to this being Lost Information from old internet.

What else. Inspect element is your best friend. Might be a little high concept for little ones. But the concept holds that the deeper a lie is embedded into something true the easier it goes down. When I made my fake omega covid news article I used the name of a real epidemiologist with a real twitter presence and I kept the side articles in my screenshot that were like Hoda Kotb shares her COVID experience and upcoming TODAY show guests and the other Real Articles that were published on the site. Iirc I took an article about James corden having covid and kept the shape of the surrounding paragraphs and then changed the relevant parts and stuck my lie in the middle. Which was more believable than whole cloth Making Stuff Up when I’m not an expert.

Kind of a mix of one and two but a text only lie is one that’s the easiest to clock as a lie because it’s the lowest effort and there’s no bolstering support (image). Related: an informative lie will raise more eyebrows than a reactive one. Saying “They blew up the chicken man last night” has people going. Source? Saying “oh my god I took a nap and now everyone is talking about the chicken man did something happen�� “A MEMORIAL SERVICE? IN PHILLY?” more believable.

🛏️ did you two ever have a "there's only one bed" moment?

Likely not!! Especially when they're both just starting to work with each other, there's too much of a 'business relationship' barrier for them to ever share hotel rooms or the like. JP also, can afford to book nice rooms for both of them (it's tax deductible) , so he's making sure they get separate, deluxe rooms.

😳 what moment flustered them the most?

For OC: upon hearing that JP's read her essays, and found their arguments compelling. She'd never have expected some stuffy suit to have taken the time, let alone challenge it with his own counter arguments. Afterwards, she gains a lot of respect for him. (It's calculated, of course, on JP's part).

For JP: I'm not sure if he's capable of the emotion, being ever prepared and having a lot of lived experience. I'd like to imagine he's at least pleasantly surprised when OC doesn't die from Psycho Power. He might feel something akin to intrigue when she asks--rather, demands he teach her how to control it.

💭 who daydreamed about the other more often? what did they think about most?

Probably OC, and rather embarrassed with herself once she realizes just how often she thinks about him;; At first it's business related: thinking about the topic of his speech from the day before, or what other policy she should propose to him next. But then it starts wavering more towards things like, what he was wearing during his speech instead. After Kalima tells her the truth about his money laundering, she's entirely preoccupied with how the confrontation with him will go. At that point, it's less daydreaming and more, steeling herself for how he'll react to her knowing the truth. No amount of thinking will prepare her for Psycho Power though.

🫂 what's one significant moment of physical contact you had during the pining stage?

I'm thinking OC starts pining more after being imbued with Psycho Power, and is definitely more willing to let herself pine at that stage. So I can imagine at some point, JP, while giving instructions or teaching her how to fight, gets quite close and touchy to fix her posture or something (bit cliche i know ha). Giving it a twist that the memorable part during this interaction, is that OC's emotions flare up to his touch, that her Psycho Power reacts violently in return-- like Amnesia bombs or something. She's apologizing for unintentionally attacking him (he's fine), and JP might realize then, that she has more promise as a Psycho Power user than he initially thought.

💔 were there ever any moments of angst or jealousy thanks to the hidden feelings?

Absolutely for OC :) Somewhat subconsciously towards Kalima, after learning she used to be his closest advisor, at least, before the Incident with Ken. But she knows Kalima has a lot more information on JP that she's not aware of, since Kalima has the intel on behalf of the Resistance. Then afterward with Psycho Power, negative emotions are turned worse. Not knowing JP's real background and being distant from him, eventually grow into a near obsession with finding out who he is (yes this is a self call out lmao). Whenever she comes across someone with intel on JP, or Shadaloo co-workers who've known him for longer, it's not exactly jealously she feels. Rather, it's with intense enthusiasm and fascination does she interrogate, grill, and squeeze out ever little thing they know about him. JP himself finds this rather distressing, and placates her with (false?) stories about himself. She knows they might not be true, so it ends up having the opposite effect, ever encouraging her to find out more about him.

Favorite Male Character Not only in the game but my favorite character of all times: Daeran in all his beautiful, amazing complexity. I'll spare you the essay. 😂 For now. I want to mention Regill too, though, as the number two among my favorites. 💜  Oh! And Woljif! Aaaa, I almost forgot Woljif. I love him so much!

Favorite Female Character Areelu, actually. I said it before already, confident, intelligent women in positions of power. 😳 I'm so predictable. And in a very complicated, conflicting way: Galfrey.

Least Favorite Character Harmattan for being incomprehensible (The "I wouldn't miss him if he wasn't in the game" kind of least favorite) and Hulrun for his fanatical crimes (the "I hate him but I would never want to miss him in the game" kind of least favorite).

Favorite Ship Being utterly self-indulgent here. Daeran and Salvadore. 🥺❤️ But Daeran and the Knight Commander in general actually, in all the beautiful different facets and shapes this relationship can take with those out there who love him dearly and write/create their own version of his relationship with the Commander. You can call me crazy, but in all the versions where the Knight Commander is out of the picture (because not interested in Daeran etc.), I ship him with Sosiel.

Favorite Friendship Daeran and Woljif! Their banter is so great and I absolutely love the way their friendship develops (and postgame too, depending on ending slides of course). Also! I enjoy Seelah's and Arue's friendship a lot!

Favorite Quote Almost anything Daeran says, especially the true love conversation and his proposal. Also this:

Worst Character Death (if any) In my playthrough it was Inquisitor Liotr Hawkblade's death because the decision to kill him came with heavy guilt for Salvadore and while he'd never make a different choice there and then it still was the hardest thing he ever had to do, breaking his principles like this and taking the life of a good man. The second worst was Galfrey's death.

Saddest Moment The moment Galfrey died, apologizing with her last breath, and the pain on Daeran's face when he turned away. Salvadore knelt next to her. And while he had seen her as a political rival during all this time, in this very moment and in realizing that the way to the Mendevian throne was free for him now, he wished he would have been fast enough to save her instead, wondering if, subconsciously, a part of him had decided to let her die.

Favorite Location Heaven's Edge! The building is so very beautiful, the flair and architecture and in Sal's and Daeran's state of the world they'll renovate it.

soooo i keep seeing stuff about miraculous ladybug and keep seeing it in my yt recommended either video essays about how bad/flawed it is or funny out of context clips...also used to follow someone who simped for the evil dilf villain. So i decided to watch the first episode and here are my thoughts so far

the animation is kinda weird in a good way. Like it looks both bad and good. It feels pretty anime inspired but still looks like a modern western 3d cartoon. Probably would've personally liked it better if it were an anime...i actually used to think it was an anime bc i saw screenshots of an animation in an anime style. The animation does feel a little dated but i think the first season is from 2015 so idk if that will change...it is a tv show so i guess it's to be expected that its not super high quality.

the evil guy is voiced by the same guy who did zhongli in genshin impact (and mondo oowada in danganronpa!)...now i can't stop thinking of gabriel as an evil zhongli lol

speaking of him...does he have mind control/manipulation/corruption/turning ppl evil powers? 😳that's kinda hot. I just really like villains who can do that. Also i love butterfly motifs in character designs. I know he's probably an irredeemable asshole who's hated by the fandom but i'm probably gonna like him.

And she even talks to the little girl she was babysitting and her friend...how did they not recognize it was her in that costume?

The transformations are cute...reminds me of when i'd used to watch winx club as a kid...I'm glad the whole "magicial girl" genre isn't exactly exclusive to anime even if it's less common in western cartoons. This + winx club are the only things i can think of off the top of my head that do the magical girl transformation thing (not as a joke/parody like i've seen some cartoons do).

Probably would have loved this show if it came out years earlier instead of when i was a teenager and stopped watching tv.

But yeah i think its a cute goofy show that i would like a lot more if i was watching this when i was like 13 and not 23 lol. I still kinda like it tho and am probably gonna try and continue watching it as long as it interests me :3.

Hi, it was great. Thank you! I can’t take credit for driving as it was my cousin’s husband who drove and he’s a fantastic driver. 😁 I don’t have the details of your road trip so what I wrote is generalized and covers a lot that might not apply to you. Don’t let the essay I wrote scare you off!

If you’re driving, you’ll have to be quite comfortable and skilled, especially with a car you’re not used to if you’re renting. In Europe, roads are more compact than the US. They’ve got roundabouts (which we’re not used to) and you have to be comfortable with parallel parking, tight parking spots, narrow streets (road is too small for a two-way but is a two-way anyway), etc.

Having some sort of navigation or GPS is highly recommended as you’re driving on an unfamiliar road and this would require good cell service which can be difficult if you’re in a foreign country. But don’t follow the GPS blindly! Sometimes they’re not accurate. I remember the GPS telling my cousin’s husband to turn down a one-way street which would’ve ended badly but we saw the signs and told him not to enter. 😳

If you’re renting a car, just be aware of the rules of the country you’re driving in. You might need an international driving permit (depending on the country) and you’ll need car rental insurance too which might be provided by your credit card. Before leaving the car rental facility, take photos/videos of previous damage on the car bc some companies will say you scratched the car when you didn’t so it’s best to protect yourself! And this adds to the cost but if you’re visiting multiple countries, it’s best to let them know as they will tell you what to do when crossing the border. And tolls can be a thing too so ask about that. The guy at the car rental told us Slovenia needed an e-vignette (modern toll payment method) which we previously didn’t know about. The other countries (Croatia and Italy) had normal toll booths where you could pay with cash or card. Also think about where you’ll return the car. Are you driving it back or are you dropping it off at a different location? Let them know!

Be careful of what gas and grade your car takes! The car rental place will tell you this. Putting in the wrong gas can damage the car. You’ll have to fill up the tank before returning the car.

Road trips can be long. Even though Google Maps tells you it will take this long, add more time because of traffic and to account for taking wrong turns/exits. You might get bored and your butt and legs might get numb. 😆 Feel free to take breaks and walk around. Playing music in the car is always fun. Make sure you have drinks and snacks along the way. But also account for bathroom breaks! You can use the bathrooms at gas stations but sometimes they’re porta pottys and not very glamorous. Especially when it’s night out, you’ll have to bring a flashlight to use them. 😩 Also, sometimes gas stations aren’t around and the guys would have to pee in the woods. 😂 Just be aware of the need to go is what I’m saying!

Having a car is convenient but you also have to think of parking. If possible, stay in hotels or Airbnbs with parking provided. If not, be prepared to pay to park your car. Even driving to national parks or in the city, you’ll have to pay to park your car so you can walk around. Having cash/coins handy is nice for those things.

That’s all I can think of at the moment. If I’m missing something, let me know! Overall, road trips can be fun! You have more freedom and it’s more convenient. Please don’t let all this info scare you off! You’ll be fine. And let me know how your road trip goes! ☺️

P.S. I forgot to talk about automatic and manual cars. Manual cars are more prevalent in Europe so they’re cheaper to rent. You’ll have to check availability if you need an automatic. Also, during peak season (summer), you might have to book your car in advance because it would be awful planning a trip and realizing there’s no car available or that you have to pay steep prices.

the context for the tears and the embrace is that both Kenny and Ibushi have been separated as tag team partners (and lovers? 😳) for years because of their own jealousy and ambition. at this point, Kenny’s fighting with his closest friends and they turn on him and betray him - Ibushi runs in to save him and chose off the bad guys. and ohhhh, Kenny has to make amends with everything he has done to hurt his ex-partner: he does not see himself as deserving of even shaking his hand, before ibushi forcefully pulls him into a tearful hug. 😭 after years of misery, the Golden Lovers are on good terms once more and ready to be the greatest tag team in the world together!
