How do y’all feel about the idea of having one universal MC for all books? I recall there was an app that had this feature but it shut down, idk if anyone else does it.

Cause originally I would’ve thought no, but tbh? Not too bad, at least for the way I play it. Like, I always pick the Hispanic MC sprites anyway, and if I can choose which MC I want to be my set MC, it would save me the trouble of having to look at ugly MCs like the new sickly sprites they’ve been using lately. And if it’s the same MC in every book, it’d be more likely that there would be a better variety of hairstyles to flatter that particular MC.

Only issue I can think of for me is in many books I like being able to give my MC a name that fits the book, so a universal MC might mess with that (though if they let you edit the MC freely I could change the name every time I play a new book). And then of course people who like to make OCs for every book wouldn’t be able to as easily.

I also wonder how it would work, like would it be retroactive? I seriously doubt it, because I imagine it’d be a headache to go back and make every past MC the new one you make. And then it’d mean it’d be unlikely to ever play as non-humans like you do in Blades because an elf or orc or whatever wouldn’t align with the human that would be the universal MC.

Would you be able to choose which sprites you could use (ex: if I want a set Hispanic MC, would I have a choice of every Hispanic MC sprite they’ve done over different books or would they draw up a new set for the universal MCs)? What about outfits, since there are many MC body types out there? Maybe instead of a set of sprites it’d be like making a Bitmoji or Picrew and you just assemble it feature by feature, which sounds pretty cool.

At least if there’s a universal MC, there’s a valid reason to see the same face in every book. When I had to see the ILB and OH MCs in every book it was just because they got lazy.

I’m not really sure if I’d want this feature (I think I voted a 3 to accommodate my indecision), but I am so curious about the logistics of how it’d be done.

Homestuck^2 sucked because none of the trolls actually aged like they were supposed to. Like the humans aged (even though they're MEANT to be immortal and dont give me they're mentally 40+ JOHN NO LONGER FITS IN HIS GOD TIER SUIT HE HAS AGED) but we don't ever see the natural development of the trolls.

Vriska, Aradia and Sollux I can kinda give leeway since they've went through timelines and dreambubbles and double death and half death and yada yada those 3 are kinda fucked up timeline wise so I kinda see why they never aged.

But Terezi, Karkat and Gamzee? No fucking excuse.

Kanaya is a grey area however cause you know she's "Kanaya The Vampire Fashion Queen" but like no credible sources I can find SAY anything about age when it comes to rainbow drinkers and I can't find out if The Dolorosa was actually a rainbow drinker so we don't have a naturally lived rainbow drinker example so I'm just gonna have to assume Kanaya ages like a regular troll.

However, the other 3 have no right to not be ageing. For example, I'm gonna pull up a image of Commander Vantas here:

It's hard to tell with Cmdr. Vantas because THE ONLY TIME WE SEE HIS FACE IS IN HERO MODE OR IN A LIGHTING AND SITTING DOWN anyways. But with what we are given with Cmdr. Vantas he DOES in fact give signs he has aged, not as much as he should of, by this point he should have gotten a good bit taller than the humans and have completely red eyes, but it's better than THIS

Other than artstyle and change of clothes he looks the fucking same, at this point in HS^2 he should be looking like The Signless but he doesn't even look older than Kankri. But maybe Karkat is a bad example maybe the poor guy has a case of eternal babyface and he's just cursed to look 13 forever.

Let's take a look at Gamzee instead.

There's so little images I could find off sight of Gamzee in hs^2 and I did NOT want to be on that buggy ass website for long so this is the best you're getting. As expected, Gamzee ALSO has a case of chronic babyface and it's especially egregious as he's the descendant of THE GRAND HIGHBLOOD.

Tbh this is actually kinda a good image since we can semi eye measure Vrissy and Gamzee. Of which Gamzee seems imo taller than Vrissy, not in massive hulking beast like GHB but like and adult man to a 15 year old, which would be normal and expected IF HE WASN'T AGAIN THE DESCENDANT OF THE GRAND HIGHBLOOD.

That guy is literally known in fandom for 2 things, being pissed off and being huge, again Gamzee follows the trend of not having the adult troll characteristics of dark grey skin and whilst his horns are red due to being hero mode and we can't see his eyes i think we can assume he probably doesn't have some nice lavender lookers on him.

And there is a reason why I've spent the last 1 or 2 hour complaining about obtuse homestuck lore and it's simple it shows a lack of care.

It shows that Homestuck^2 on the surface is a mediocre at best adaptation of Homestuck but as soon as the thin surface layer is scrapped away, it shows a hollow project, it shows a project that generally proves itself to be a homestuck thing but it doesn't show passion, I could probably right now find you any HS fan and ask them what makes adult trolls different to young trolls and they could probably easily tell me how and why. So why couldn't a whole team of people attempt at the very least, a version like that?

I appreciate how both ichi and jiro have jackets similar to their og ones. I miss the blue on ichi’s jacket just for contrast reasons but it works that neither of the bros have each other’s main color on them anymore (aside from the buttons on Jiro and Saburo).

🍊 Who’s a character you don’t write for that often, but keep meaning to write for more? (They’re so interesting! But maybe you have trouble pinning them down, or keep getting distracted by another blorbo…)

I want to write for all of the Forget-Me-Not/Forgotten Valley characters, but I feel like I'd need to play AWL/DS again to really get into the right mindset for them. With the remake coming so soon, I'm hopeful that it'll give me the boost I need. But no promises 😅

I'd especially love to write for Celia/Cecilia. She's one of my favourite characters anyway, but I feel like she gets overlooked a little in fics in favour of the more interesting girls like Muffy or Nami. Her backstory isn't quite as obviously dramatic as theirs, so I understand, but I think there's a lot of unexplored depth to her that we haven't seen yet. It could be really fun to explore who she is underneath, whilst still staying true to who she is.

Where do I even start with this man?

Headcanons:

I'm not even sure if it's canon, or just the way I write him at this point, but I definitely think of him as quite a shy, reserved person. I headcanon him as very softly spoken.

I headcanon that he didn't choose to become a police officer; his father pushed him into the role. But he's always lived in his father's shadow, so he's never actually thought about what he wants for himself.

Tbh, I think his role in HM64 fits him better. I keep forgetting he's a policeman, not a postman in HM FOMT!

Because his sprites in HM:FoMT seem quite slim, I've always pictured him as more of a tall, skinny man than the chubby figure he's portrayed as in official artwork.

I think he gets his gentle, quiet personality from his mother. Where she is, I'm not sure, but the fact that's he's so empathetic to Gotz over the loss of his family, makes me think Harris probably knows grief too.

He strikes me as the kind of guy that would like English cricket over other sports like football or baseball.

While the idea of moving to the city is nice, he's a country boy at heart, and he feels most at home in the town he grew up in. Harris would be miserable if he had to live in the city longterm.

In fact, that's why things didn't work out with him and Aja. She was desperate to move to the city, but even though he loved her dearly, he couldn't bring himself to follow her.

He's actually quite shy, and doesn't have many close friends, despite being a very friendly person. Gotz is really his only true friend in town, before the Farmer moves in. But he grows so close to the Farmer that he eventually comes to them about his love life, trusting them with his deepest secret.

it's okay! for a min there, i thought that my long replies may had scared you away lol. that's true, tumblr have never been perfect but it is the best platform for fandoms because copyright doesn't seem to apply on here.

the game did hinted that a little considering kuras and mhin do have a relationship with each other where i wouldn't be surprise if they play an important part in each other routes.

that's true! kuras have the most mysterious aura, we mainly just saw how he interacts with others but everything else was a secret. kuras might be a fallen angel though and it would explain how he was able to attach the mc arm but not revealing his method because of that reason.

as for mhin, it is a possible considering they was similar with the layout when they appeared a shadow CG where the MC first found the senobium but that sound too simple.

i agree and the studio must feel the pressure considering the amount of funding they have gotten so if they release an unpolished version of the game, lot of fans are going to be upset.

have you try using their template? canva is meant to be an easy alternative to photoshop. tbh, the graphic making on there is a little bit harder now because lot of their assets have watermarks printed on them to get users to upgrade their membership.

er, i don't think it's that simple anymore to make anime/manga banners on there because they got rid of the background remover as a free feature and other things. but it's easy to make a fic banner (like the name) on there but need time/effort to find the correct font etc.

maybe, you could try playing the other origins to break free from the rut? it's worth a shot and designing those outfits must took forever but it was the perfect match lol.

i get where you're coming regarding mhin because they do seem the perfect character for the themes of the game aka horror gothic literature, their personality, interactions and outfit just completely fit with the theme.

i just looked up their sprite again/general official art and they definitely have black roots underneath, as far as i can tell because their hair wouldn't stand out as much if it was completely white. i bet doing the makeup for vere cosplay would be the most fun part.

i think you should try a little bit more because i really do enjoy talking to you! well, i don't think there is anything to worry about as long as you're following the rules etc, the worst thing that can happen is that you won't get a reply and that may happen but another user will come along.

kazutora really was a loose rocket back in those days lol, another character that would be terrifying as a yandere. kazutora have a proper backstory but it didn't get animated in season 1 because it was released as side chapters (?) something like that so it wasn't in the actual manga hence why the studio could skip it but apparently, it's explain why his relationship with baji was like that.

i think izana is a cool character where it's rare for a villain to care about his childhood friend (kakchou) because most of them are lone wolves lol. do you think izana's character design would be the best one when it'll get animated?

Not trying to justify the devs very poor color coordination but my guesses for why are as follows:

Blue is the most popular color because, of course, Lucifer's ego needs to be stroked, being the favorite. Also, because he represents the peacock, and they're mostly blue. I heard the color blue is associated with freedom. Given his history, this somewhat fits??? I agree with you tho. He should have been red.

Mammon is obviously gold this is universal

Levi's probably orange to match his eyes (even though it so obviously should have gone to Beel like you said). Maybe it's orange because he's the avatar of Envy and he's jealous that he should've gotten a better color??

Satan is green purely because it's on the opposite end of the color wheel as red. Satan and Lucifer are supposed to be opposites in design so I'm assuming thats why.

Lucifer likes dogs, Satan likes cats. Lucifer's hair is black, his is blond (not opposites but we already had a white haired brother), Lucifer's character sprite keeps his right hand on his chest and Satan has his left. I'm guessing they were going for a yin and yang type thing here

Beelzebub: ...I have no justification tbh. I tried going through the characters old designs and rough draft phases the devs / writers had planned for the characters and apparently they almost made Beelzebub a cop. Pretty freaky.

(Part 1: THH)

Makoto: it's like. Fine lol. Kind of generic but totally fits with his "totally average high school student" thing

Taka: Accurate. Next.

Byakuya: Torn between "this looks stupid" and "it's Byakuya we're talking about here, of course he'd wear something stupid and think it would make him look more refined ". Like this looks bad but it's absolutely in character

Mondo: Eh. Feels almost kinda young for him but I don't really have any better ideas and it does fit his color scheme well

Leon: Flaming hot cheetos vibes but I'll take it

Hifumi: Fitting but makes me even more mad that he's stylized Like That. All the other characters had plausible proportions I'm SURE you can do that for a fat character too. Either they all should be cartoony or none of em should be

Hiro: I guess I get what they were going for but this is too patterned and also not his color scheme at all. Maybe I'm just saying this bc I think orange and green basically never match but yeah

Chihiro: BEAUTIFUL AMAZING SHOWSTOPPING PERFECT. My favorite outfit so far. Dr may have utterly failed in basically every aspect of Chihiro's writing but they did not fail with this outfit she looks amazing

Sayaka: This looks dumb sorry. Idk what they were going for but like. Why. The top and bottom of her suit don't even match? (Admittedly her hair being draped over her shoulders weirdly like that is just for this sprite not all of them but still)

Kyoko. Like. Technically it's better than Sayaka's aesthetically in that at least it matches with itself and her hair ties (in most of the sprites at least. For some reason they're discolored in this only fullbody one.). Still. The thing about me is that I have trouble imagining Kyoko wearing literally any feminine clothing ever so I see this and my mind just goes "OOC" even though she literally also dresses fem in canon

Hina: Worst one yet. She's literally ultimate swimmer why would she wear this it's impractical and dumb. Also the color scheme is soo different from the normal desaturated red+white+blue she normally wears. The bandaid is an ok touch but that's the only good thing about this design

(I'm sorry Toko's expression is like that; this is the only close-to-fullbody DRS sprite on the wiki)

Toko and Syo (kind of the same outfit so I'll judge it together): I really like this one! Toko having a skirt thing so no one can see her tallymarks but Syo taking it off is a good touch. I wouldn't have thought of blue as her color but it actually really works (and reminds me of Komaru's uniform...)

Sakura: Cute! Tbh a bit more frilly/cutesy than I would have expected but she looks nice :)

Celeste: SECOND FAVE AFTER CHIHIRO I <3 IT. Generally Celeste's aesthetic fucks so hard (only tiiiiny criticism I have is that the lace on her suit would look nicer if it was matching in size with that on her headdress)

Junko: Why so plain??? Like it really doesn't seem to fit with the gyaru aesthetic at all (admittedly I don't know much about said fashion subculture though so I def could be wrong it just looks very different to my eye). Like I feel like this is what Hina should have worn it looks like smth actual swimmers would wear in a race

Mukuro: REAL LIXED FEELINGS HERE. On the one hand, this is very fitting for someone pretending to be the ultimate fashionista; you've perfectly captured that vibe. On the other hand, why should she have to pretend to be Junko in this context whyyy. (So like generally this aesthetic is good she's getting a good grade in Junko mimicry but the "Mukuro is butch" part of my brain is NOT a fan she shouldn't HAVE to wear that)

Monokuma: Sure lol. this is fine. Why do you need a swimsuit when you're normally naked

Ojamajo classpects! (Explanations below! Spoiler warning for Ojamajo Doremi sharp)

-Doremi: Page of Heart! The page’s journey is especially slow and difficult, which is perfect for our favorite protagonist! Of course the Worlds-Unluckiest-Bishoujo™ is gonna have the most difficult journey. She’s a heart player because shes nice to everyone, and despite being a bit of a clutz, all of her friends love her and she’d make a cool leader! She keeps everyone working together and motivated, and is very important for the Ojamajo’s survival in Sburb. Also thought this classpect could represent how in Sharp, she wasnt always the best at raising Hana-chan at first, but eventually became very important to her :3

-Hadzuki: Maid of Light! The Light aspect represents knowledge and enlightenment, and the Maid class “keeps the order of their aspect.” I chose this because Hadzuki is smart and organized, and would definitely be able to help everyone understand whats going in in the game, and use her knowledge to help plan out their next move.

-Aiko: Rogue of Time! We needed a time player and thought Aiko could probably do a good job! I chose rogue because rogue sounds mischievous, and i thought she could be a lil mischievous :3 I also thought the “equivalent exchange” aspect and the ability to take someone else’s time could fit her character. Out of the Ojamajos, she’s the most likely to put someone in their place. None of the Ojamajos would be that big on actually fighting, but Aiko could atleast give someone what they deserve. I also feel she’s capable of doing all the work that comes with being the time player, being slightly more independent and hardworking because of her home life, and she’d do a good job in that role.

-Momoko: Heir of Space! I thought Momoko could make a good space player because shes silly goofy, and space players are always silly goofy :3 I chose heir because the heir of space was described as especially creative, and figures yea shes pretty silly goofy this sounds cool.

-Onpu: Seer of Void! I’m still deciding on this one tbh. I think heir of void could be cool, but we already have an heir. i also think the mind aspect could fit her well, but void is also really cool. (i also made some cool art of god tier onpu and i dont want it to go to waste lol) (plus she looks so cool in the seer outfit) we decided on void because it just sounds cool and seer sounds like it fits onpu well. but when i remember her whole mind-control thing she had going on at the end of season 1, and the fact that shes an actor, something like heir of mind sounds really cool! but she looks so cool in the seer outfit... plus id have to change Momoko to a mage or seer but that doesnt sound right... unless i change hadzuki to a understanding class and momoko to a creation class... but this is getting confusing so onpu is seer of void until further notice!

-Hana-chan: Bard of Doom! Alright, I know it sounds bad, but it actually works. I thought it would be really funny if one of the Ojamajos was a bard because bards are hilarious, and when i looked at bard of doom it actually fit pretty good! The ability to destroy doom itself is something that i feel works well for Hana-chan. [major spoilers for Sharp ending ahead] I also feel like the bard of doom having the possible ability of bringing someone back to life could call back to the ending of sharp where Hana-chan woke the Ojamajos from their 1000 year sleep, lifting the curse that doomed them to that fate. Of course giving her the hope aspect would be more straightforward and fit her color pallet more, but bards are really funny, there’s a difference between destroying doom and creating hope, and I feel Hana fits the former better (though I have not finished Dokkan, so I could be wrong)

bonus character: Pop! i thought it would be hilarious if everyone just prototyped their fairies and were talking about it together, but Doremi chimed in like “uhh... i actually didnt prototype my fairy...” and everyones like “ok what did you prototype?” “i prototyped Pop!” and everyones just like o_o (on a serious note though, she was most likely doomed to die since she isnt playing the game, so what they dont know is that this is the best option they had lol)

of course this is only the first prototype, eventually somethings gonna get added on and itll be really funny

Erin's Incomplete and Arbitrary Guide to Free/Free-ish art for TTRPGs!

This isn't a super complete or conclusive guide, it's just some stuff that I've found in my experience. The one grain of salt you should take this with is that for a few of these suggestions are used often because they're free, so if you use them as a cover or something, you may have a very similar cover to a lot of games.

Also, if you have any other recommendations let me know!

With that out of the way, here we go!

General

Okay so general tips for using the resources that are offered in most of these guide.

Pixabay: This is the most usable of the Pixabay/Pexels/Unsplash triad that is usually recommended. It has a useful tag system so the search is decently helpful, and you can filter by "illustration" or "vector" which is really useful for getting specific stuff that you need. Still, the illustration filter is still full of AI art and peoples' first 3D art project. The former is often tagged as such, but not always; I find it useful to check a user's profile and see their other stuff if you're not sure, because it often is obvious if they do AI from their bio or other uploads.

Pexels/Unsplash/... Morguefile I guess?: Less than useful in my experience but I don't use photos in my TTRPGs. They seem to tend towards photography rather than illustration, and AFAIK there's no way to filter, but I haven't used them that much. Unsplash seems to have a good variety of photos in different styles if that's your thing.

Wikimedia Commons: This is structured as an archive, not as an art resource. There's no tagging on photos, so unless your search terms are included in the title of the picture, they're not going to show up.

What you want to do is use Categories. If you want an image of say, a robot, google (or use the Commons search but it's worse) "robot wikimedia commons" and click on the category. Sometimes there will be sub-categories that might have stuff in them that will fit your purpose better -- either "android" or "robots in art" -- that you can navigate too (btw, ______ in art is invaluable in wikimedia commons. a good amount of categories have it as a sub-category). You can also go to the bottom of the page and see what categories your current category is a part of, maybe "automata" fits more to your need that "robots."

Also for wikimedia commons, you can see the license for each image. A good amount are public domain, CC0, or CC-BY, but some are CC-BY-SA, which is trickier for TTRPGs. Probably better to just avoid those.

Adobe Stock/Shutterstock: These are technically paid but at least when I used them you could get a free trial and get 10 licensed photos. It's a pretty good deal tbh. There's a lot of AI art there too, but later I'm going to recommend some specific users that are GREAT. Uhhh, if you have a cracked photoshop that involves actually having an adobe account, use a different email for the Adobe Stock trial.

OpenGameArt: This is primarily aimed towards video games, so it's mostly game assets. If you want a pixel art style for your TTRPG, it'll be actually pretty good, lots of backgrounds, sprites, etc. that can be repurposed into book art. If you want illustration, there are fewer offerings, but not none. Use the search and filter by "2D Art/Concept Art" and "CC0/CC-BY"

Okay, now let's get into specifics!

Fantasy

It's no secret that fantasy is maybe the biggest tabletop genre. Here's where I find good fantasy art.

LadyofHats: A wikimedia commons contributor who has made, among other things, a whole bunch of good BW CC0 illustrations for Dungeon fantasy style monsters.

Godbound/Worlds without Number Art Pack: Art packs from the Godbound and Worlds without Number TTRPGs. High detail, full color fantasy art. The disclaimer at the beginning definitely applies here though, these have certainly been used in a TTRPG before.

Scarlet Heroes/Silent Legion Art Pack: Similar to above, but these are black and white. Scarlet Heroes is more traditional fantasy style, Silent Legion is a bit more occult-noir looking.

JN Butler: BW fantasy punk-y art. Really good for interiors. CC-BY, and even has already-written alt text.

David Revoy: A lot of CC-BY art! Tends to tag his art by license, which is helpful, plus a lot more stuff on wikimedia commons (just search his name). Tends toward cartoon-y/anime-inspired.

Franco Rivolli: CC-BY, has a small collection of painterly fantasy art on OpenGameArt.

Golden Age of Illustration: Public Domain works with a classic fairy tale vibe. You can google the artists in the movement but I find Arthur Rackham, Aubrey Beardsly, Ivan Bilibin, and Kay Nielsen to be good places to start.

Other helpful wikimedia categories: Fictional Creatures in Art, Fantasy pulp magazines, Arthurian Legends, Witches in Art. Be discerning when using the old stuff, there's definitely problematic stuff in there.

Sci-Fi

I'm not as familiar with where to source sci-fi art, but here's what I've found so far. It also tends to be a little more difficult in general, since there's a lot less public domain sci-fi than public domain fantasy.

Stars without Number Art Pack: Same style as Worlds without Number, but with more sci-fi and aliens!

Magazines about Science Fiction: A Wikimedia Commons category, but I wanted to give special notice to this one because plenty of these magazines went defunct and didn't renew copyright, so it's a lot more modern public domain art that you'll find a lot of places. Still only up to like, the 50s, but still.

Walter Licínio: He does AI art, but he does have a free art pack from when he was an illustrator, so depends where you fall on that. Mostly sci-fi, some fantasy.

Misc

I wanted to just shout out the Roleplayer's Guide to Heists art pack. It's some modern stuff, some fantasy, some SF. Obviously suited to heist stuff but some good spot art.

Free-ish

So this is where I wanted to shout out some artists I've found on Shutterstock and Adobe Stock. I'm putting it under free-ish because it's only free under the free trial.

Warmtail/Warm_tail: Some stuff in brushy paint style, some stuff in anime-ish style, almost always dramatic lighting. Expansive catelog useful for a lot of different purposes. Lots of angels.

Tithi Luadthong/Grandfailure: Lots of sweeping vistas and lone figures looking off into the distance. Some dreamy fantasy stuff, some cool cyborgs.

Alexandra Petruk: A cartoonier style, but with a fun distinct look. Lots of fey, witches, and mermaids.

Kalleeck: Fantasy art in a bit of a grimier style.

Dom Critelli: Fantasy art, some landscapes, the most interesting pieces here are his weird little guys.

Camilkuo: Some interesting concept art. Good for spot art for fantasy and sci fi.

And then there's some decent fantasy action scenes by Firstear and iobard.

So many “how to find free/budget TTRPG art” guides are just like “Pixabay exists” and that’s it. Even with the resources, it’s difficult to actually find usable art, especially if you’re looking for illustrations and not photos, and ESPECIALLY now that you have to wade through AI stuff on a lot of these websites

No Longer Canon Tag Game

as far as i can tell, you’re supposed to talk about the things in your story that weren’t originally planned but ended up canon. So here are a few things that changed as I was writing the story.

The Curse of Broken Shadows

- the celvusa (shadow wolf)

I don’t know why, but I originally planned the shadow wolf that makes appearances in the book to have a wise-but-annoyed speaking role. I wrote out conversations he’d have with Brela, but in the end, it always fell flat and seemed too convenient because Brela is too smart. So, he was relegated to the background, added suspicions to the plot, and then became the wise-but-annoyed single sentence speaker in a different language to add the biggest spoiler/surprise/plot twist at the end of the book.

- Serill and Farrah’s friendship

I set out to write a platonic friendship and all you readers had to go and start shipping these two (it’s okay, I get it). BUT originally I didn’t plan these two to have the friendship they ended up having. Farrah is mistrusting of men, and tbh it should have been a hard pass for her, but Serill’s personality was so perfect opposite hers that their dynamic became one of the easiest things to write.

- Brela wasn’t supposed to find Fowke in that tent

I won’t spoil anything massive, but I didn’t originally have her finding a stranger in the tent. I had her finding something far worse. When I told my husband the plan, he grimaced and said “that is possibly the most cruel thing you could ever do”. I realized that what I planned to do would change Brela and put her on a different path than what I wanted and I only had about 50K words left to work with (this plan would have resulted in at least another 100K to get her back on track) so I manipulated it and got her information sooner rather than later.

- Ovir was going to have a bigger role

He still will, but in this first book he serves as a mystery. I found that keeping him in the background served the story better so that future interactions will be more impactful. Also, Brela is suffering Stockholm syndrome with Ovir (I’ve had readers complain about how conflicted she feels about him) so keeping him at arms length and a bit mysterious makes for a better reveal.

- The Crystal Desert spoiler with Oni was entirely made up on the spot

We all know Brela is a badass and has been since she was nine years old. I had her entire past mapped out (some individual stories I made up on the spot that had no impact on the changing events, but served for entertainment (like the story about the random bar fight in Roulant)). One of the most fleshed out past events was the Crystal Desert, particularly her role in obtaining the vaarasuxa bones that served as a gate and capturing the other vaarasuxa and her baby... 

until the moment she reunited with Oni in the desert. His reveal about who she is to him (kiakiroxa) was written for the absolute shock and hilarity factor, and the more I thought about it, the more perfect that seemed to fit both of their personalities. So, the competition she gets roped into with the sand sprites was not originally planned but fits so perfectly I can’t imagine anything else happening in place of it.

- the letter Brela writes Cason at the end of the book was written at the same time she would have written it during the events of the book

Okay, less about it not being canon, though I had no intention of writing the letter at first, but when Cason reads Brela’s letter, it was written before the entire adventure of the book happens. Which means I was basically using that letter as an outline for the events of the book. The only thing I had to go back and add was a bit about Oni not being her kiakiroxa. I also added the bit about Boelyn and the buckets of water and pranks she left for him to find because their relationship sort of took a turn I didn’t expect and thought the addition was hilarious.

Hell yeah, FMA au! This is brilliant though! Let's go Kisaragi Siblings! (Also I already prefer how you write Kokoro over LINJU, thank goodness.)

Also here are some ideas for who can be who in homunculi. (This is based more on the sins then the Canon fma characters)

Pride: Utsuro (as you said)

Sloth: Iroha (she is one of the few people that have sleeping sprite and sloth also means apathy or inaction. Not doing things either because you don't want to or don't care. With her trying to get others to do things before she does anything herself)

Greed: Emma (linked with her 'Wealth' trait from Void. Greed can also be fairly selfish sin. Doing things purely for yourself. Slightly why she spend time with Kokoro, (they could of had a very nice relationship, makes me sad). Not much to say on this one though.

Lust: Akane (NOW BEFORE YOU SYA ANYTHING. Lust is not only sexual but can just be a strong desire for something ("he lusts for power"). So Lust can mean 'strong desire'. And I think Akane has probably one of the biggest willpower in this group, willing to spend four months in a school waiting for a killing game, get memory wiped, and still come out on top. Also Sora (I know they are probably different characters but-) Sora was very determined when she wanted someone, which is a sort of reflection on Akane. She makes her own choices and can get what she wants.)

Gluttony: Hajime (ironic. But gluttony also means taking too much for one's own good, as taking to much food is bad, so is taking too much of anything. He was the first person to take a life (unless you count Mikado "killing" Rei) which I would say is taking too much. Doesn't link that much to his 'Health' besides a sort of irony)

Envy: Mikado (straight up just wanted Utsuro's power and was willing to kill 15 others to have something he didn't. He wanted to be human but not in a good way. I think this fits him)

Wrath: Nikei (this dude had a gun and was going to try and shoot everyone up in a fit of rage, yeah, also linked with his need for 'Power'. I was thinking of making this Mikado but Mikado isn't as much as an angry person.)

May fit sins, but may not fits the FMA characters.

This au is really fun! Sorry if the above is unnecessary. Just wanted to share some ideas since you weren't certain. You can change things obvi.

i was actually considering making iroha sloth and mikado envy but all of that makes me wonder "is one of them the fuhrer of amestris? nikei doesnt fit the bill for me and neither do the others" and the answer im coming up with is that they all control the government from the shadows like in canon fma but the fuhrer is basically just some guy whos easily manipulated to do their bidding just like other higher ups in central

also from all the homunculi i think wrath!nikei would have a similar role to canon greed? as in he betrays the group and gets killed but is brought back with his memories erased. yeah i see that especially since he got punished for betraying void in sdra2 (which was so fucking bullshit tbh)

God Michael! 🤣🤣 I finished playing Shadows of Saintsfour about two days ago during the Freeplay event and my LI was Michael.

I played SOS awhile ago but didn't get pass season 1 because I thought the series was super predictable which made it boring, but WOW DID IT PICK UP IN SEASON 2, esp 3!!! I can't believe it got better within those 2 seasons. I thought the story would be dragging on for no reason, but was pleasantly surprised that season 3 and season 2 were tied together with 1. And they existed in one cohesive story! I can't believe that I would have never, and I mean NEVER, would have touched this story again if it wasn't for the Freeplay event. I completely underestimated this story... I would have missed out this gem. Now I see why this is one of the more well-liked and popular book of the app now.

That being said, I love Michael. No not love, I ADORE him. Seriously.

I never screencap game moments but I had to for Michael. I never felt so much adoration for a character that made me want to do this 🤣🤣. I love the romantic scenes between MC and Michael and the conflict that was presented in season 2. And his asshole-douchery flaw....

In his next line, he says he's worried about you. He's just worried, but still Michael, no need to bring your girlfriend's friend down. ESPECIALLY WHEN THAT FRIEND HAS BEEN WITH HER THROUGH THE THICK AND THIN THAN YOU DID IN SEASON 2 and 1!!! (ofc Michael saved MC's life in season 1, but Derek has been sticking with MC when Michael hasn't, which is alot)

However, his sweetness towards MC is altogether too much. I wish he had more interaction with her friends tbh. But now I present the last line (I think) and perhaps the best from Michael...

So sweet 💕. Gosh he is still fallen head over heels for us 😳😭 like the first time. The sex scene with him was also so sweet... the line said everytging about him is familiar, yet there is something new to discover. 🥺I love how protective he is of MC and how absolutely loyal he is to her. He runs away with her FFS!!!! He leaves a gang and family with an equally traumatized brother just to be with her. He leaves everything for MC and if that doesn't scream Bae material, I don't know what else. He is the epitome of a ride or die partner and I cannot, I don't think, can feel the same attachment to the other LI's in this book. Probably John though lol.

I was super anxious during the train station scene because I thought I didn't have enough points with Michael for him to run away with me and the writers made it seem so, so I tapped pretty fast, half reading the lines in trepidation. When I read that he actually came and then we held hands as the train departed... my heart... 😭💔💔💔💔 RC don't play with my heart like that 🤣🤣🤣

That aside, I wish Michael had a bigger role in season 1, 2, and 3. He did in season 1, but he stopped appearing frequently, esp in 2 and 3. I thought he would appear more often because he's MC's bf. And it would make more sense for both of them to search together. Even unromanced, it would still make sense for Michael to hang with MC's group because they're the only ones who are really actively looking for Bobby. This would have led to more dynamics and interest in MC's friend group..alas, this didn't happen. A missed opportunity IMO but I suppose his absence could be explained by this: he has his own life. Lol. Or a different way of doing things. Still doesn't really make sense to me, but oh well. I still very enjoy his route and his development nonetheless.

I also wish other LI's had more moments with MC. I heard Stephanie was sidelined, not sure though because it was as though the main love interests would only appear around the time our chosen love interest appears. Not sure how much that is true since in season 1 I didn't romance her. Strange how she barely appeared in my route though. I thought she would help us more or become part of the gang, but she didn't. Disappointed because I would have def liked another best friend besides Candy and again, more layer to the friend group. Her interaction with Michael would have def be interesting.

I also wish that non-romanced main love interests appeared more than the Black dragons. To me, I don't think their role fit with the story very well if you think about it. Luke and Stephanie def would. Stephanie's grandma is acquainted with Mrs. Hill and is a witch; Luke's family's hold over the cursed painting. I wish the black dragons' appearances were at least shared with the non-romanced ones. Like I wish I knew what Luke and Stephanie were up to in detail. It was seriously strange for Luke to not be around when Bobby was missing and that he never tried contacting us. In both seasons 2 and 3, I couldn't stop wondering what they were up to and missed them (although Luke drugged us lol).

So imo, the black dragons' role should def be less than Luke and Stephanie. Definitely weird, but it is what it is.

Speaking of the Black Dragon's, Aaron is a hot daddy. Like GOD DAMN. I couldn't help but flirt and kiss with him although I was scared that it might ruin my relationship with Michael 🤣🤣🤣. Cherry.. i would like cherry if he was drawn better. At first, I couldn't like him because of his sprite but his personality is ahh, so mischievous, I love it. I would have picked Aaron over cherry though LOL.

I would replay season 3 to romance them again, but the scenes are very few and I already played most of them. I'm just missing their final sex scenes really, so it's not really worth it to replay the entire season just to get their ending and final sex scene lol.

I can't bear to cheat on Michael with Aaron or cherry, I can't do him dirty like that. Like for FFS, Aaron married Luke's sister and we never, at least imo, build the same heart wrenching connection we do with Michael compared to them. And the fact that he freaking left everything in his life for 10 years to be with us!! Like nooo I can't!! 🤣🤣 there aren't enough scenes with the side characters to justify the cheating 🤣🤣 Michael is too gentle and sweet for the hurt.... but i did cheat on him with Derek HAHHAHA mostly because 1996 Michael wasn't available so I thought something happened so I was like ALRIGHT GUESS WE FUCKIN'. I was tempted to choose Derek over Michael because Derek has been with us more than Michael has. Not to mention, he really cares for MC. Wish there was a 3p ending with both of them 😭😭 they're both super loyal to MC and would lay their life down for her.

The same thing with John too. I can't bear to see Michael grieving over MC and MC picking John over him... can you imagine Michael dying and finally seeing his dearly desired dead gf in DreamWorld but only to see her gettin' it down with some guy who tried to kill everyone in the past? 🤣🤣🤣 nah man I can't do him dirty, especially when Michael saved us from the Faun. Speaking of that event, it was weird that there wasn't a conversation/consequence from Michael who saw John kiss us LOL. And he definitely heard us talking about the intimate moments we shared HAHAHAHA. Though, John's short route is terribly cute. I really enjoyed it tbh. Surprised that we didn't have any repercussions for cheating on Michael with him. Moving on, I watched his ending on YouTube and it was super bittersweet.😭

I honestly like his route a bit more than Aaron's. Or equally. Can't decide! Aaron's route is basically MC still in love with her old crush who used to intimidate her and was exciting since he's someone you wouldn't acquaint yourself with, especially as a young, inexperienced student. And then coming back as a mature woman, and still knowing that you're in love with him and he is still too, ah so cute. That moment you share with him in the snow on the swings 💕💕. Honestly I feel like that moment MC needed a proper adult figure to comfort her so that scene was a bit weird and made me think, hm, MC is probably crushing on him because he is older, hot, and is sort of providing a parental comfort to her lol. In my HC universe, MC crushes on him, but it quickly dies because she was vulnerable in the moment. I'm happy that that moment didn't escalate any further and that Aaron didn't chase MC unless MC did in the end. It would have been very weird because it would have been a moment where he, as an adult figure, take advantage of MC. Then again, it's fantasy/fiction. To each to their own eh? I still enjoyed it. I honestly could personally relate to the line where Mc says that the experience and age (something like this) provided comfort to her, so that moment felt awfully sweet to me.

In the end, there could only be so much you can push in in a story game app.

I still really enjoyed this story. Despite the flaws I pointed out, I love this story to every bits. I find this much more entertaining than SOTF, so I'm glad that it is written the way it is. Perhaps I should write a post about SOTF in the future since I'm close to finishing it, but I don't think I will since I don't like it much.

okay so idk if anyones done this yet, but this has been in my mind ever since i got into omori lmao

so uhHhHhhh heres my idea for an identity v omori crossover! just because i think it would be neat

this is going to be a super long post (probably), so if you want to read it, just hit read more or whatever

i also want to say that some character choices are gonna be taken from my friend, @/kami.rikki on instagram. but she didnt think as hard on these as i did so like idk

there Will be spoilers for omori, so just be warned of that lmao

so as i said before, this has been on my mind for a HOT minute. and i think it would be a cool collab

for starters, this crossover will be split up (as is every other crossover) in two parts, with one hunter two survivors. i know essence usually have one hunter three survivors, but theres not enough characters for that, and six can be split up evenly sooo

i was thinking that the skins could be like the ones from the persona 5 crossover. like, they can be “awakened” in a sense. the base costumes will be the dream world versions of everyone, while the awakened costumes will be the real world versions. i wasnt here for the persona 5 crossover, so idk how many of those spirit things you had to collect, but i Do know that omoris spirit things could be. uh

well actually i dont know. initially i was thinking lightbulbs, like the one in white space, but the lightbulb isnt too important in the game i dont think? and im not sure about clams either. i know theyre dream world currency, but??

oh actually, maybe you can collect Something to awaken the costumes. because something is a representation of the truth in sunnys mind, and by awakening the costumes, you get to see the characters as their real selves. yeah lets go with that, you collect something from the essence

part one

the characters that will be present in part one are sunny, basil, and aubrey. i chose them first because. ofc, sunnys the protag, basils his best friend and helped cover up maris death hes important to the story but anyway, and aubrey is <<33 yuh

so heres whos going to be who:

sunny/omori as wu chang

so let me preface this by saying that im not a hunter main. never have been, never will be. and ive never played wu chang. but i swear thisll make sense, im doing research

wu chang is actually composed of two characters, with two different stats: xie, the white guard, and fan, the black guard. i cant tell the difference while im playing, considering the fact that my ass is either running away or decoding. but theres a difference i looked it up

sunny would be the white guard. xie is a fast chaser, but has slow attack speed. ie, slow hits, slow pallet breaking, that stuff. this reflects how sunny is in the real world. he can run, yes, but hes still physically weak due to being locked in his house for four years and spending all his time sleeping. he would be better for chasing than attacking

omori would be the black guard. fan is the opposite of xie, having slow chasing speed but faster attack speed. this reflects in omori. omori is Very apathetic, and really, i dont think he would care to chase anybody unless it was for a quest. though, i guess killing survivors Is a quest for hunters, but. anyway

in battle, omori is a good fighter. his attacks are strong, (although not as strong as say. aubrey or kel. but who am i to say, the playthrough i watched had omori constantly sad) out of him and sunny, omori would be the attacker. so theres my choice for them

the umbrella can probably be switched for a knife. maybe an elongated knife. im not entirely sure, but i know the umbrella wont stay as an umbrella

basil as kurt frank

so i know what youre thinking. why is basil “the explorer??” hear me out this is actually a really good idea

the true best choice would be emma, since shes the gardener, but idv doesnt like giving characters skins of the opposite gender if you know what i mean. anyway

basil isnt a fighter. hes an assist, yes, but that was only for a crime four years ago. not my point, he wouldnt want to be in the action

i think he’d be a really good decoder. especially a good kurt

i originally wanted him to be prisoner, out of no bias whatsoever (/j) but kurt is a good fit for him

basil hides. he hides from things. he hides from the truth just like sunny, and he hides from others. albeit he still goes outside

i will not lie, i have a very personal grudge against kurt players. i dont want them to have anything because every kurt main ive come across was toxic to me specifically. but anyway

so one of kurts abilities is that he can go smaller to run around undetected and/or hide. i find this perfect for basil, because. yknow. hiding

his other ability is to find password pages and use them to decode ciphers faster. i think this would be funny because basils existence in headspace leads sunny to remembering the truth about maris death. i mean, if he werent in headspace, omori and the gang would continue going on adventures like nothing is wrong, so basil sort of speeds up the acknowledging process

this sounds dumb actually. but it makes sense in my head

anyway, the book would be turned into basils photo album, and he wouldnt have a backpack like kurt does. theres my answer

and finally,

aubrey as margaretha zelle

aubrey was actually really hard to pick out. none of the female survivors really fit her, aside from maybe coord, but i dont know what her gun would turn into. i will admit that her section wont be as detailed as basil or sunnys. but anyway my choice is with margie

aubrey imo would be a good kiter. she has strong stats all around, so i feel as if she’d be a great fit for margie. not to mention her speed boost when falling from large heights, which would make her a faster runner and harder to chase if used right. aubrey would be more physically fit since shes a fighter and seems to do a lot of stuff with the hooligans, which also helps prove that she should be a kiter. ANYWAY

so margie has these music boxes that can mess with the hunter, right? some of aubreys attacks can mess with enemies iirc. soooo theyre kind of similar in a way, arent they?

im not exactly sure what the music box can be turned into. maybe a small piano? aubrey cares about mari a lot, and the reason shes so pissed at everyone and rebellious is because she felt like everyone had forgotten about mari and moved on with their lives. so the music box could be a tribute to mari

i dont know how many changes they made with ann tamakis costume in the persona crossover, other than cosmetics for the skin only, so im not sure if the music box was changed at all. i can dream though

in the case that its changed, the blue box could be the song from the playground in headspace (yknow the one) while the red box could be the final duet song. but just with the piano, not the violin

essence

because yes, i thought about the essence too

of course, aside from the skins, there will be other stuff in the essence too. so itll be as follows:

for portraits, theyre going to be the neutral battle portraits from headspace. aside from basil and mari, who do not have battle portraits. theirs will just be of their neutral expressions with the neutral emotion backround behind them. i would add pictures, but the character pictures add up to six, so i’d run out of room before reaching part two

for graffiti, im not really sure. maybe everyones overworld sprites in headspace? along with maybe one of Something

for accessories, i actually have an idea of what thesell be. theyre going to be character exclusive accessories, just like how tpn did theirs

for aubrey, she’ll have mr plantegg. i was thinking of maybe having her bat as an accessory, but

OH ACTUALLY her bat could be a shop accessory that changes the music boxes!! probably an a tier tbh

anyway, the essence accessory for her is mr plantegg, and its there strictly for cosmetic purposes. for basil, he’d get either a pair of garden shears, or a basil plant, since yknow. his names basil. this is also for cosmetic purposes

they all are. i should say that now, the accessories are all cosmetic except aubreys a tier shop bat

finally, for sunny, im not entirely sure what to give him. i could give him a knife, sure, but then he’d have two knives because of the umbrella. maybe a steak? or a pair of red hands? im torn on this

here are my character choices:

mari as yidhra

so i know yidhra may seem like a weird choice. i originally thought of maybe mary, but this makes sense to me

yidhra herself will be mari. im not sure which version, but even though i have real world mari in the photo, maybe headspace mari would be better. nobody can see her anyway lmao

yidhras servants will be, again, mari, but she looks as she did when basil and sunny hung her on the tree. her hairs covering her face, with her right eye being visible. kind of like the girl from the ring, but anyway yeah

yidhra is the dream witch. she haunts your dreams and she haunts mine when i go against her. maris death haunts everyone, especially sunny and basil (whom know the truth of what happened,) so this just seems like a perfect fit

her death is “leeched” onto everyones minds (pun entirely intended), so attaching herself to survivors with only her death appearance visible is mmmm

instead of an axe, maybe her weapon can be the jump rope she was hung from? and it can be used as a whip? that makes the most sense to me idk

so hero was kind of hard for me to pick too. i wanted him to be a support character, but looking around, there are. barely any that would work. my closest choice was victor, but?? the letters???? they dont correlate

hero doesnt give me kiter vibes, but nortons good at rescues too, as long as youre in an area with obstacles. and usually, when someone dies in battle, hero can make life jam to revive the fallen party member

nortons magnets are used to either bring the hunter closer to him, or push the hunter away. both can be used to stun with obstacles. while hero doesnt have any stun attacks that i can remember, he does have charming abilities that can be used to take damage for the other party members. so similar stuff? idk

i guess his magnets can be turned into chocolate chip cookies, since thats what he uses to heal everyone. if not cookies, then i dont know

oh actually one of nortons abilities is called “attract.” thats so funny if you put hero as him lmao

come on. who else were you expecting me to use? its the basketball man as the football man

while kel is a fighter in battle, he can also be used as a backup healer. aubrey is the main fighter of the group, and hero is the main healer. so hes kind of a catch-all in a sense

kels an athlete. he plays basketball. williams an athlete. he plays football. need i say more

im not gonna lie, this is kind of a don tpn situation where it just Makes Sense that kel would be william

the football will probably be replaced with either a rubber ball or a basketball, depending on which skin youre using. the former is for headspace kel, the latter for real world kel

the buffs and debuffs for william makes sense on kel too. kel would probably have trouble with something as (probably) complex as the cipher machines, and the struggle and vaulting buffs show off his athleticisim

same with the football, using rush to rescue is such a kel thing to do

the portraits will be the neutral battle portraits, this time with the real world counterparts of everyone. basil and maris will be their neutral expressions on the neutral battle background. though, since mari doesnt have Real real world portraits, i guess they could use the one from the one i used on the mari yidhra picture

for graffiti, it can be the real world overworld sprites

in terms of accessories, theyre still cosmetic and character exclusive. maris can be the white egret orchid, since thats the flower that represents her. heros can be a spatula, as thats his weapon of choice in headspace. for kel, im not sure. hes using the ball as a weapon so???

maybe he can get a cactus, because thats his assigned plant

in terms of shop items, i think i know the perfect thing

mewo would be a hunter pet. she would be cool for survs too i guess, but considering both her owners are hunters.....

mewo would probably follow the hunter around, not really doing much. i think it would be Extremely funny though if every time a survivor was chaired, she just chilled next to them in the pose shes always in in white space
