One of those games with a ton of endings and the core gameplay is trying to see all the myriad of creative ways you can lose/die. You're an artist who's trying to finish a cursed painting, but if the girl in the painting doesn't like what you've done, she'll end your life. Honestly the theming and art style reminded me fondly of Ib, which is probably why I gave it a 3 instead of a 2.

i like to imagine that um, you know how i.b and garry tend to carry out some conversations throughout their journey... i like to think he came across a painting, either through objects symbolizing her or a portrait of someone that looks like her - that reminds him of jenna a lot... and he probably brings jenna up to conversation but still withholding her name.

he probably goes like

"you know i.b, i kinda went to this exhibit because i wanted to invite someone i liked but i got nervous about it. and then i found out she's there too."

ib, thinking very innocently would wonder what's wrong with it

and he goes like "i don't know if it's too much of me to say hello to her and maybe tag along? is that odd?"

ib would prooobably say something like "you're not odd you're very nice :) youve been so kind to me garry." and that made him smile and reconsider. if they get out. he'll try to talk to her :)

if they reach a good ending like promise of reunion then we get to witness a scene of him and jenna talk to each other and she is very very happy to see him 🥺 (hes actively hiding his bleeding hand tho JWLAJSAKAK) BUT THINGS GO WELL FOR THOSE TWO TRUST

but should they get an ending like memories crannies (aka ib/garry forgot each other) i think garry will leave the place immediately. since he doesn't remember ib's input in his question, he wouldn't be pushed to talk to her sooo... wiwwiiw

an interesting thing to add is. what if jenna approaches i.b as strangers and asks if she has seen "a man in tattered clothing". (jenna won't say why, but in my head she was delighted to see him for a moment but couldn't find him after that u_u)

(... that idea might apply to the forgotten portrait and together forever endings too..... ;o;)

BUUUUT if jenna also fell into the fabricated world (+ best ending).... my goodness. i bet you she is going to see a whole new Level of Him that she will come to love soso much (which is dad garry to daughter ib 😁😁😁😁) thats what i can tell ya... by the end of the game shes gonna tell him that she finds him super selfless and heroic and that he should keep that up because its smth really worth appreciating...

she also helps treat his wound and asks him if they can see each other again.

OOOOOOO Making some of them crazy would be such a interesting idea to see. I can somewhat imagine Bronya going a bit crazy with yk cocolia’s painting and maybe the other supreme guardians. Like if we would to go off on the idea of having the supreme guardians being enemies, maybe they could do some mind games on Bronya or something, just imagine the ANGST. Im 50/50 on the other characters like i can see them go a bit crazy but also i can see them not going a bit crazy, it depends on what kind of angst you want. Also, i should mention i imagined the reader being a child like Ib so the reader and the characters would have the same relationship that Ib and Gary had. Btw thank you for giving me an excuse to watch IB game playthrough again. I never played the game but had watch a youtuber who did a playthrough of it which got me hooked. Since i daydream a lot, you can be sure i will be sharing those ideas or prompts when i have the time to get on Tumblr!

Omg I really love the idea of the reader being a kid! It's so cute and would be even better for the story to flow! Also I'll see what I come up with for the characters, as I already have an angsty idea on how it ends hehe... I'll see when I have time for the series and to watch the playthroughs, as I have my apprenticeship coming up and stuff. I still love ib so much it blew my mind when i first played it with my sister soon after it came out but literally ecery time i go into an art museum now i will see at least one painting or installation that will remind me of that fucking game

i was in the middle of another drawing and this idea hit me after listening to the mp100 ost for like the 20th time (some parts remind me of horror rpgs) but im having some Thoughts™ and want to get them out

mp100 x ib crossover/au (or as i call it, mib lol)

mob = ib obviously (they both even have red eyes, and i think thats neato) reigen = gary (do i even need to explain this one) minori - mary (more of a puppet role in this case than solely acting on her own - ) mogami - weiss guertena (both world famous, both put a lot of stock in their skill/profession, AND both created a twisted world after dying that is a hazard to the people trapped in it) also this was all inspired by me seeing the phrase "world of mogami" in a comment and my peanut brain instantly connected it to "the wonderful world of guertena"

im also thinking in this au, mogami still saw spirits and those are the subjects of his paintings, hence why they dont come from "real" dead people. minori/mary could be the exception that is hinted at in the game (im pretty sure there is a hint of one, but i think in reality none of them were based on real people) she could be someone mogami knew when he was alive, but she passed away when she was still young, and thus immortalized only her in a painting

so then the fact that all the paintings come to life and start attacking people makes a bit more sense (minori/mary is seeking a friend that she can truly trust, something she never had in life)

i think at the start of the game, ritsu is walking around with mob and at the moment they look at the ??? world painting, only mob disappears, leaving ritsu to freak out and try to find him back in the real world, but to no avail

an alternate ending could be where mob ends up the brainwashed one, and believes that he's reunited with ritsu, but its actually minori and he is still in the other world idk if this would take the place of the ending where ib chooses to stay with mary, but that could also still work (we all know mob has a good heart, but i dunno if he would sacrifice himself to help someone he doesnt really know, especially when he does already have a real sibling - ib was an only child and likely felt lonely, even if she had parents)

another idea on endings, the good ending where ib/mob returns, they go to the rose statue and standing there talking to ritsu is reigen, and mob is relieved to see both of them alive and well

rose colors: mob - still red reigen - dusty pink minori - blue

if you're wondering if mob still has his psychic powers, im thinking he does, but in the world of guertena/mogami, he isnt able to use them. hes got to figure out how to do things on his own, and that just makes everything even more terrifying for him.

oh and after thinking about dimple, he takes the role of the ant in the green room

Also this might just be blind nostalgia talking but it really reminds me of this old book series I read as a kid but never got to finish cause our shit library didn’t have the last book. But it’s called the books of elsewhere & the main girl looks like Coraline & in their old Victorian house you can enter the paintings, but it soon goes from a beautiful enchanted world to dark & sinister trying to I think kill her or turn her into a painting? But this show is really taking me back so I’m 😍😍

That sounds so interesting! That reminds me of this game I used to play called IB and it had a pretty similar concept. It was about this little girl who went to an art gallery with her parents and she ended up getting pulled into the world of the paintings where they were all trying to kill her. Ib is such a good game! My favorite ending is always been "A painting's Demise". It's just, i really really cared about Mary and seeing her think she got out just to have the gallery taunt her and remind her that she can never leave always got me. She could be creepy but just wanted to have friends and be in a nice place in the end.

tl;dr: tbh not much to go off on about. i think we see a new skin for Iron Bear, one with some stripes. amara smiles, i do talk a little bit about little sisters in bioshock but tbh i think this was all just a stylistic choice lol. oh and handsome jack’s masks- probably Mount Jackmore. i don’t want to get to freaked out over jack returning, but damn gearbox lol u had me there for a second. im pretty sure it’s just a reused cut quest from bl2 that they never got to implement.

i can’t imagine it being roland’s gravesite. because it looks like the below.

i do know we’re going to roland’s grave in bl3, but the statues don’t really match up. maybe it is and the statues were broken, or ruined or something and replaced by a cross. could be then that the gravesite was defaced with, well, the guy that killed him. 

im really hoping jack doesn’t make a return. im fine with dealing with what he set in motion, and his influence, and probably even some ECHO logs and movie trailers, but please, for the love of god, don’t actually bring him back, AI or otherwise. im really excited for the calypso twins, i’d really hate to see the focus shift back to that guy. he’s had his fingers in every borderlands game. it’s time to let him go.

((Under the cut is me sobbing about why A Painting’s Demise is the saddest ending. I’m putting it under a cut because well it’s like all spoilers and way longer then necessary. If you want to skip my ramblings go all the way down the list to bullet point 9 for a quick summarization of why I feel this is the saddest ending.))

Okay so to start I want to say, I think A Painting’s Demise is the saddest ending because not one or two people die but it’s hinted at that everyone may have died. 

Now first things first is the part that is obvious why I’ll find sad. But finding Garry losing his mind in the doll room. Now no matter the ending this part always rips my heart up especially when it comes to Ib’s reactions to this part. This one specifically hurts me with Ib’s reaction. In the other endings if Ib doesn’t manage to snap Garry out of his insanity, she’ll press on and continue. But in this ending she just stops, she practically breaks down, she sits down next to Garry and refuses to leave his side.

Which brings us to more obvious reasons as why this ending is sad. To preface this, Ib has to have less then 4 bond points with Mary in order to unlock this ending. In game that means when Garry stops functioning, so does Ib pretty much and Mary has to leave on her own. She tries to get Ib to come with her but Ib refuses, instead staying at Garry’s side. Which to a child, especially a child like Mary, could be seen as Ib choosing Garry over her. That is something the game plays with a lot, people choosing one and another over each other. IE; Mary asking who Ib would save if she had too, Garry sacrificing his life for Ib’s, and Ib having to decide between following Fake Mom or Garry. Yet even though it seems Ib has chosen Garry over Mary, Mary still plans to return for Ib later. Which to me shows Mary as having a stronger bond to Ib then Ib does to Mary.

After this we have Mary in the gallery itself. Now let’s stop and think a moment about Mary and the gallery. The gallery is her whole life, it is her home, her friends and everything she’s ever known. So of course we can assume the gallery is important to her. In fact the gallery tries to help her and remind her to go back, to stay with them. This can either be the gallery art not wanting to lose their one friend OR the gallery trying to remind her she needs to take the place of Ib or Garry in order to escape. The gallery making one last attempt to help her.

But Mary ignores all this and keeps going until she finds the Fabricated World painting. She jumps through the gallery either forgetting or not knowing that she needed to take someone else’s place. Now once she enters the gallery she’ll find no one is there, the gallery is dark and the front entrance is locked. Now as though to add insult to injury, the gallery turns against her. Her own home turns against her and starts trying to scare HER. The messages on the walls turn from questioning and imploring to verbally assaulting Mary. To telling her she’s a bad girl and reminding her not only is her heart is fabricated but she can’t return.

For the first time in the game we see Mary afraid of the gallery, afraid of her own home at this point. She’s questioning if anyone is there and grabs her pallet knife for protection. At this point she starts talking about how she’s scared and starts asking for help. Once she reaches the reception desk the gallery has almost completely turned against her as it now shows a picture of HER dead. We've seen the gallery do this to Ib and Garry through out the game. But from my memory we don’t ever see it try to actually torment or frighten Mary until now.

As the screen gets darker at this point, and we can assume the gallery gets darker, Mary starts questioning why she’s the only one there. Once she gets no response to that she begins to cry for help, first asking for Ib’s help as she’s lonely, they beginning to become more frightened and crying for Garry’s help. Now this part always gets me because from the game we’ve seen Mary doesn’t care much for Garry. At least not in the way she cares for Ib. Yet when she’s in danger, when she’s scared, she still calls for him. From that response we can gather she had SOME sort of more positive feelings towards him or at least enough positive feelings to feel that when she was in danger she could call him and he would help.

BUT as if that wasn’t heartbreaking enough we have the name she yells at the end. After she’s done crying for help, when she starts to hear footsteps rapidly approaching, Mary yells for her father. There’s two ideas we can take from this, either she’s crying in one last desperate attempt for someone, anyone to help and is calling for him. Or in the dark, what we can’t see, is the person that was running towards her, the person attacking her and the only hint we have to their identity is “Father.”. Now I personally follow the idea that she’s crying for help from her father, not realizing that he is dead and cannot help. But I do also have to find it interesting that after a moment of silence, after the footsteps are done approaching the word she cries out is father.

So to recap why I believe this is the saddest ending.  Garry has completely lost his mind with no signs that he’ll snap out of it and return back to the Garry we know and love. Ib sees one of her closest allies lose his mind and not react at all to her. Which in response sends her to give up and refuse to move from a spot next to him. Meaning Mary has to leave on her own, without the friend she so desperately wanted. It can be assumed that both Ib and Garry are now trapped for god knows how long, possibly forever, in the fabricated world.    Meanwhile Mary dies(or meets some other horrible fate) in this ending in a world she knows nothing about with her HOME terrifying her and tormenting her until the point she is crying for someone, anyone to help help her. To the point she is crying for her dead father to save her with her not realizing he is dead. OR worse yet with her dead father being the one to attack her in the dark. If all that isn’t sad as all get out then IDK  what is.

Also OMG YOU LIKE IB!?. AHHHHHH FINALLY I MEET SOMEONE WHO ALSO LIKE IB. Please tell me, have you heard of “Puppet: Mary’s Theme” cover by Lizz Robinett? Its is SO good and just captures Mary’s character PERFECTLY! While my overall favourite from the game is Ib herself, Mary is a close second, along with Gary who is a close third. Sorry for the small rant, i just love the game okay, i havent been able to talk about the game with anyone since NONE of my friends know about it 😓

Hmmm, an idea just popped in. Belobog now have a new museum rn with many paintings, along with the fact that many of the characters volunteered. i wonder.. 😏

FINALLY! FINALLY SOMEONE KNOWS THAT SONG COVER! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YEARRRS TO TALK ABOUT IB AND THAT COVER AAA!!

I literally remember playing IB with that song blasting through my headphones at like 12 or 13. I absolutely loved Mary specifically as a kid, mainly because I was edgy. But nowadays I understood her character more and love her for how tragic she was. And the song is just perfect for her. God, I love you for reminding me of this, Flower Anon!

I'm genuinely so happy someone knows the game and is willing to talk about it... and am I crazy for wanting to start a fanfic series with that idea of the Belobog museum being apart of the IB universe? Please tell me your ideas and what you think of it. It would be my first series ever and I've been wanting to actually do an IB themed one for years. (Omg I'm actually so motivated to write it now lmao-)

something else I keep thinking about is the way, the whole group moves. my only source of is twd (which irocnially ib started in so I see that as a sign lol) and I didn’t even watch it for very long but I do like the settings and vibes that come from a world that feels completely abandoned.

you and Briggs mostly hiked through woods after the breakout, because the first instinct was to get away from crowded areas and Briggs had the foresight to realize that traffic jams are very crowded

but when you join Paz’s group, they actually do have trucks (and gas) to drive longer stretches and with mechanic!din on board, it’s not hard to simply switch cars if it becomes necessary. so you’re very excited when it’s decided that you should move camp to a few counties over.

It’s the first time you’re in a car in two months and everything is so drastically different it makes your heart hurt. You’re sitting in the front with Paz driving and Briggs and little Grogu on the backseat. Grogu asks if you can play music until Paz has to remind him that there are no radio channels anymore.

You distract the boy with a game of I spy that lasts almost the entire drive. But your heart still hurts as you think of your friends and family and neighbors who probably didn’t make it and how this situation seems to be unsolvable in every way.

When the first cars stop, Briggs helps Grogu out of the car while Paz volunteers to go scouting the area with you. “If you don’t mind some company,” he smiles, quiet and soft and so very gentle, as his fingers drum on the steering wheel. You shake your head, ignoring the jump your heart just made.

Paz walking around with you on an empty parking lot, rifle thrown over his shoulder, and he keeps pushing his hair back because it keeps falling into his face. “I could cut it,” you offer, more as a joke but, “Though I can’t promise that the ladies will fall to your feet.”

“Only need to look good for one lady,” he replies, winking at you and you feel the heat in your cheeks rising.

You find some more canned goods but what’s even more fascinating is that somehow, a tiny profile of the freezer aisle still worked, even if it was blocked by a fallen over shelf.

The way you yearn for a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream must be apparent because not even a minute later, Paz grunts as he brings his weight against the shelf to push it to the side, triumphantly presenting you with the ice cream. There’s a big grin on his face that suddenly makes him seem so much younger and lighter, you wish you could always see him happy like that.

Sitting in the truck, the sun slowly setting and painting everything golden, eating ice cream together with a plastic spoon you found a packet of in the market. Paz telling you stories about how he met Din or the funny things Grogu got up to before the breakout. Sometimes your fingers brush as you pass the ice cream back and forth.

“It’s almost like before,” you blurt out, immediately feeling bad when you see his smile fall. “Sorry,” you being out, your throat closing up, “it’s just … sitting here is so nice and it’s so quiet it’s like … it’s like nothing bad ever happened and we’re just here for fun and -“

“Hey,” his hand falls to your knee, your eyes trace the little scratches and bruises on them, how his fingers slightly squeeze your knee, “look at me.”

You do, meeting his dark eyes and feeling your breath hitch in your throat. “It’s okay,” he murmurs, “it’s going to be okay.”

And you believe him.
