Cecil B. Demented (2000)
John Waters’ hysterical satire of art house film culture, the lobotomizing efforts of Hollywood, and cinematic gate-keeping is so ahead of its time you’d swear it was made yesterday…not 20 (!) years ago.
Director: John Waters
Cinematographer: Robert M. Stevens
Starring: Melanie Griffith, Stephen Dorff, Alicia Witt, Adrian Grenier, Michael Shannon, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Larry Gilliard, Jr., Zenzele Uzoma, Ricki Lake, Eric Roberts, Patricia Hearst, and Mink Stole

I think my one personal thing I would absolutely need in a vintage Lord of the Rings movie is Christopher Lee would still have to be in it in some way, especially since he was a big fan and reread the books every year! He’d definitely have to play a different role; apparently for a long time he’d actually dreamed of getting to play Gandalf but by the time the movies were made was too old for what the role would physically demand, but sadly I think in a fully vintage version he’d be too young. But he’s still gotta be in the movie somewhere!

SUBLIME CINEMA #651- THE KING OF COMEDY
Demented and still totally underrated. The movie was kind of adapted and watered down by ‘the Joker’, which Scorsese ultimately decided not to be a part of - but this film’s character study is much deeper, much funnier, much sadder.

Animated UTRH Jason: *transported into the comics batcave where Tim, Dick and Jason are*
Dick (who got a concussion and hasn't told anyone): maybe it worse then I thought
Tim (hasn't slept in 30hrs): not again
Jason: shit am I hallucinating my self again? Usually it's Robin me, this is new.

Because John Waters already knew.
And even if “Cecil B. Demented” is far from my favorite Waters’ movie, it just feels like a manifesto now. Like this is for real what I think about art & culture now.

Cecil B. Demented was a fun one to rewatch after 25ish years, with a few more John Waters movies under my belt. (And a few more Melanie Griffith movies too, for that matter.) It was my first John Waters, although I knew him by reputation and had seen him on The Simpsons by that point. I remember liking it at the time, but now I was just like "Wow, this is very much my jam." Maybe back then I just hadn't yet reached my current state of Enough Already With This Shit when it comes to Hollywood movies. Plus I was like, "Hey, Michael Shannon and Maggie Gyllenhaal are in this?" Back then I wouldn't have known them at all lol.
