Some sklonpok mild angst to comfort for your troubles ft the cutest baby in the whole goddamn world (fic under cut < 3)
Sklonda stood in the doorway of Pok's office, listening to the sound of paper shuffling followed by frantic typing and then pen scratching on paper.
Her lips pulled down into a frown, but he didn't seem to realize she was even in the room.
"You need to stop." She murmured. He suddenly became aware of her presence, looking up at her. His eyes were tired, but as usual, he continued to work.
"I can't watch you burn yourself out like this. Come to bed." She pleaded, walking over to his desk and wrapping her arms around him. He seemed utterly unmoved by her cries - but he had heard it a million times before.
He had not been moved easily those million times before either. He would not be moved easily now.
"5 more minutes." He responded, slipping out of her arms and grabbing something from a nearby file cabinet as he took a sip of his coffee. Sklonda grabbed the half-empty cup and threw it in the trash.
He gave her an unamused look, pulling out a water bottle instead.
/At least he didn't go make more./
"You'll say that when I come to get you in five minutes. Not to mention it'll be past midnight too. This is ridiculous, Pok. You have two more months with me and Riz and you're spending it working yourself to death." Pok scoffed, pushing his hair back as his brow furrowed.
"I'm going on another mission when those two months are up. I have to get ready." He explained, getting up and giving her a soft kiss on the forehead. She did not return it.
"So you have to get ready right now?" She watched him cross the small room and begin to rummage around in a drawer. At her words, he sighed and stopped his search.
"I love you and Riz-"
"More than the moon loves the stars." She finished for him.
Sklonda didn't feel unloved, quite the opposite actually, but she sometimes wondered why her husband insisted that working himself to death was for their benefit. It made her more anxious if anything, and she felt sick every time he left for a mission.
"Then you should know this is-"
"-For our benefit. Yes, dear husband, please explain to me how running on two all-nighters and energy drinks helps me and our son in the long run." The woman folded her arms, leaning against  the desk. The only hint to her husband's frustration was the smallest flick of his ear.
"We have discussed this before, dear wife." Was his snarky response. They glared at each other, tension filling the room like a rising sea.
Before the two could enter an argument (which Sklonda would most definitely win- even if it took her all night), a loud cry was heard, coming from Riz's room.
She watched as her husband's face shifted from anger into concern immediately he heard the cries. He got up immediately and headed to the baby goblin's room.
Her anger did not melt away like his did rather replaced with lesser frustration that he was always doing something. He never wanted to rest. He never wanted leisure time.
Pok wanted to jump from activity to activity and never slow down.
Sklonda wanted him to sit at home with her and Riz and have a lazy day where they would talk about anything but work or tasks they had to do.
He exhausted her sometimes. Today was no different.
"Pok I can handle it I promise please just go to sleep-'' She pleaded as she followed him to the small boy's room. He did not listen.
They found their son, writhing around in his small crib, crying like the world was ending. Pok scooped him up carefully, planting a soft kiss on his son's head.
It was getting harder to stay mad as she walked over to him, hooking her arm in his.
"It's ok kid, I got you." He cooed. The child's cries slowed, but he still did not seem happy.
"Give him to me, I'll put him to bed and you can go take a well-needed rest. If not a full night's sleep just a nap." She bargained. Pok did not listen, continuing to hold his -their- son in his arms.
"Everything is okay. Nothing bad is gonna happen while I'm here, alright?" Riz seemed to calm down at that, finally drifting back to sleep.
"Bed." Sklonda whispered as she kissed her husband's cheek. She continued to trail him as he set the baby back in the crib - slowly and carefully to not wake him again.
"You're his mom, not mine." He teased, leaving the room.
"I am your wife." She retorted. "And I'm requesting you got to bed."
"...Two more minutes." He suggested. She refolded her arms.
"Now." He thought for a moment.
"...One more minute." She let out a snort.
"What can you get done in a single minute?"
"A lot." He said, flashing her a charming grin. Sklonda rolled her eyes, gently grabbing his arms.
"Bed. Now." She demanded. She could still see him thinking about it.
Absolutely not.
"Well, I'm sure if you want to work for another 30 minutes or so it couldn't hurt."
"See, that wasn't so ha-"
"The couch is very lovely this time of year." She continued. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, sighing.
"You're so mean to me Sklonda. I cannot believe how you treat me." He joked. She shrugged.
"You have two options. Be glad it's not the floor." She joked. His eyes widened as he feigned shock.
"You wouldn't… it takes so much to maintain my beauty dear … the floor would take it away in an instant." He dramatized, placing a hand on his chest.
"I will be there in a minute. I have some folders to put away." Sklonda gave him a skeptical look.
"I promise it is three folders. I will do no work, I swear on our sons' cuteness." She laughed lightly.
"How do you swear on a thing like that?"
"I'm not fully sure myself but he is very cute. Now just give me a single minute and I will be in bed." He assured, giving her a soft kiss.
She headed to their room, sliding under the sheets, sighing. She had been so focused on her husband's exhaustion, she hadn't noticed her own.
Everything became heavier, and she was almost asleep the moment she entered the sea of blankets.
Her eyes had been closed for half a minute when she heard the door close, followed by clothes shuffling.
She opened one eye to find her husband slipping off his button-up and getting into a t-shirt.
"Sorry for… yelling at you." She murmured as he slid in bed next to her, immediately wrapping his arms around her and pulling her closer.
"I've heard you yell, I promise it was nothing." He reassured as her eyes fell closed again.
"Love you." She said before drifting off to bed.
"I love you too, Sklonda."
