After watching through Side Order... I have a Few Thoughts.

[Spoilers ahead]

My Review of the Side Order DLC - Its little more than Gameplay.

Initial Opinion

Overall; I like the gameplay mechanics initially, but the story absolutely feels lacking to me, imo. It feels like they were really banking on Side Order being Hard but... multiple of my friends finished it on their 2nd or 3rd run through the Spire.

That in itself isnt a problem! But... everyone felt sort of unsatisfied? There were no developments in the story, as we, Agent 8, were just assigned the task to Get to The Top of the Spire -> The Player Does That -> You beat a Boss -> Credits Roll (?)

On my watchthrough I literally said Please Say Sike 😭 because, dont take this poorly, but they were advertising Side Order as;

• Difficult (stated Multiple Times in basically every Trailer)

• Story Driven (You Uncover things as You Climb)

• Character and Lore Intensive (as shown by the trailers with all the concept art as well as promo art)

I dont feel like it was wrong to expect more based on how it was advertised.

But... if you complete the DLC in 1-2 runs, which is Very Much Possible, no buildup happens at all. The story was banking on the player struggling, and putting all the content behind repeat runs, which falls through and Doesnt really work/feel satisfying if the main goal is achieved in such a short time. I Feel like anyone who regularly plays Salmon Run will likely have a similar experience. And I feel kind of cheated? Because what we got was something that was Tell Not Show rather than the Show, Not Tell formula. And in my opinion, it really doesn't work as well at all. It puts all the major lore that the game has set up behind repetetive climbs (which never change btw, despite each climb being generated differently, its the same after a while) and you get about 1 Sentence of Exposition, with a Modlog from Marina if you are Lucky.

Side Order was (to me), after watching it all;

• Not Difficult, But Repetetive Gameplay (This easily runs people down, which would be fine if the tower had more than 1 setup or phase)

• Inital Story Setup with no complexities or stages. You climb the first Tower, Save Marina, Climb the Second Tower, Beat Order, and the credits Roll. In its most complex, you could fit what Side Order's Story is in 2-3 Sentences. Rather than Lore being revealed During the story, it feels Pushed to the Side as all of it is either in Text the player may never see (different climbs) or care to read (Marina's Mod Log)

• Use of Character Drops with no explaination / mention (The Agent 4 Boss, Anyone?) (This felt very Bait-y, with No Payoff)

If I had to give Side Order a Rating

4/10. At Best.

I am a bit disappointed with this as I feel like I was promised more, Storywise, and honestly a bit gameplay wise. I think it fails where other DLC has succeeded Due to being Built in such a way where anything engaging is stuck behind barely changing gameplay. It is not built in a way where the experience cant fail to show you whats important to the characters and the worldbuilding. It relies too much on telling you whats happening rather than the world showing you. Its too Simple, and It Doesnt Work, personally, in a series that contains Octo Expansion.

Which is Sad to me!! It had so much wasted potential and I really hope this isn't the last we're going to see of the concept, we get to see ideas actually built into the story, and... maybe find Agent 4.

Conclusion

Tldr; Side Order had a good concept, but failed in execution for being simple and gameplay dependent, which was ultimately disappointing due to it being advertised as something more for all involved.

It was an alright attempt. The experience will just be known to me as... well. Baby's First Rouge-like. Nothing worldbreaking.

(PS, this isnt meant to be mean spirited or overly critical, I just love the Splatoon Series so I give it Tough Love. This is just my personal view on the DLC)

Ruin Me: highest rec for a longer story focused game. love the little horrory mysteries, and the conceit about being an academic who writes porny theory monographs on the side and is easily provoked into ranting about the legitimacy of studying sex is so real. does make you take the dom role in the main story which is a little awkward for me but its cute enough that i dont mind too much, side stories mostly have you being the sub. protagonist is body and gender customizable from the start.

2. The Fixer: forcefem city!!!! they updated it so u can be a forcefemmed boy or a forcefemmed girl, this rules but honestly doesnt play into the story much. i am not going to justify liking this one to u guys. sometimes things are just better when they lean into maledom and objectification. lowkey took my online porn girl name from the protagonist.

May I Take Your Order: please play this game. im cheating this isnt porn. its guro porn kind of i guess. its my favorite video game of all time and its only like 15 minutes please play it. these two have lived in my head for years and i love them very very much. the author does actually have a genderfuck porn game but its in development so only on the patreon but thats a later problem right now u need to play this one.

Succubus Stories: cute! girly! sweet music to dumb down to! kinda repetitive but who cares! gameplay is 80% sex scenes! no but rly i love games that make the sex itself the thing that u have to strategize and do skill checks about and unlock new moves its just like real life!! im going to be unstoppable once i level up Cock Lust a few more times!!!!

extremely lengthy explanations under the cut:

i actually think the S+A tier speak for themselves?

S tier: the goats. im aware its full of third versions but they just happen to be extremely good and added some insane shit to already solid base games (ok diamond and pearl werent solid but the foundation was there). replayability is insane for these.

A tier: the Oh Fuck Yeah games. not in any particular order actually. hgss is absolutely the best remake of all, only held back by the few inherent flaws of the Johto region and by not emulating Crystal enough. as much as i like bw, reverting back to only one region of pokemon never sat right by me, but it's been a while since ive played it, and nowadays i make much more of an effort to try out all new mons. so i could change my mind on this.

i liked usum more than sun/moon, if only for the post game. replayability isnt as high because of the cutscenes every 3 steps, and rotom dex is annoying as shit. aside from that, insanely solid story & postgame imo. red/blue and gold/silver are brimming with weird places in their regions and are chock full of in game lore and legends, which i really like. the ruins of alph & pokemon tower are some of the best locations theyve ever made imo

B tier is the "good but couldve been better" tier. lets go is insane for shiny hunting, but it stops at that imo. the new rival is garbo. sun and moon are good, but the postgame + alola in general is just lacking enough in these games that they dont reach A tier for me. loveeed the island challenges tho. alola itself has just such a good vibe. you really feel like its about community rather than competition. legends arceus couldve been insanely good, but i have never felt as ripped out of a pokemon game as i did when i walked through that cave in the coronet region and started seeing stray pixels around my character. which wasnt a one time thing btw this happens to anyones game & every time as far as ive seen. its gonna sound dramatic but this combined with other graphics glitches made it so clear i was playing a game that it just took me out of the adventure entirely. this is where the graphics glitches really started, and they havent stopped since.

C tier: yellow is just kinda there? i dont care for starter pikachu. i want to, but it gets killed when breathed at, so. idk. the gimmick doesnt work that well for me. sword and shield introduced some insane mons that i love and i want to call it solid real bad, but the story was hot garbage even for pokemon standards, and while the wild area was a great idea, the execution was lacking & because what i assume is a time crunch, the towns were boring as shit as well. diamond & pearl are mediocre to bad, with a great story and mediocre to bad execution, and i shouldve put oras in the :( tier, but the postgame is worth it.

actually im gonna rant about oras. i was so hyped for it but, just, ugh. if youre gonna turn a 2d vague not-specified-what-a-character-is-doing-or-feeling player character to 3d, at least do it correctly. 2d sprites where someone can fill in the blanks not seen on screen but hinted at in text (ie expressions, actions like handing someone something) work infinitely better than 3d sprites who show it badly. also still suffers from the desaturation curse that the 3ds games suffer from. postgame was dope, though. shame the mega latis are ugly as shit.

:( tier: garbage, im so sorry. SV's only redeeming factor is the area zero story. there is nothing else in the game that held my attention. fuck the star team, fuck the big pokemon quests, fuck the towns where you cant talk to anyone or find anything interesting or walk into a house and where every shop looks the game. fuck stores not even having an interior anymore. fuck this larger but emptier and stripped down world full of graphical glitches. fuck the weak ass gyms, fuck geeta, and fuck terrastalizing most of all. i will die for Koraidon & the professor fight fucking ruled but that's all the game had to it for me. do any of yall remember the gym leaders besides like, iono and the snowboard man? no you dont, stop lying to me. gen I put more life into lavender town by making a npc reference some ghost hand on your shoulder than SV does for any town, and they only had black and white 32mb cartridges or whatever to work with. for fucking shame gamefreak. give your devs some time to make a halfway functioning game.

firered and leafgreen do nothing new. i will not discuss the sevii islands. what the fuck even was that. boring. same with brilliant diamond and shining pearl. theyre lower than diamond and pearl because why the fuck did they not decide to remake platinum. what the hell was their damage. seriously platinum was RIGHT there. i caught a full odds shiny ghastly in that game and i still dont care about it.

X&Y suffers from. everything.

i hope sonic prime is good if its not good Im going to kill myself im so sick of shows for kids that are like. i dont know what the right word is but you know how the muppets used to be very earnest and genuine with their music and friendship and general silliness but later on especially after jim died and ESPECIALLY after disney bought them theres alwqys an air of irony. like its all very tongue in cheek like isnt it just SO embarrassing and cringey that some of these guys want to SING or be NICE.. LOL! that was my biggest issue with the new fraggle rock series Btw theres no reason to make self aware jokes about how lame you think it is to take these little singing and joke telling puppets called fraggles seriously. Ok sorry lost the plot a little bit i could discuss the downfall of the muppets specifically forever but back to sonic. thats one of thr reasons i hate sonic boom LOL it has alot of issues but it was so disingenuous in my opinion. not even just poor characterization of oh lets say knuckles. (imagine smoke coming out of my ears) but ive always LOOVED how seriously sonic media has taken itself like yeah this black and red hedgehog with a gun DOES have a super sad and heartbreaking backstory and we are going to reduce you to tears over jt and it literally fucking rocks. i think too many stories as of late are ruined by people being scared of being genuine and getting mocked for it so they just mock it themselves in the text like dont worry! we arent taking this seriously! like well maybe you should take it seriously and create something beautiful ok 👍

long post abt a seto quote surprise surprise

literally insane crazy that this is like the one (1) and only piece of text EVER that shows how seto had felt knowing that he and his family didnt have a future beyond his teen years, and even this isnt made that clear bc he brings up his own personal feelings abt this matter a total of net zero times like oh my god. like this is a dude that learnt about haruka's mortality way before haruka ever gained the courage to tell it to his friends (which is a big fucking deal considering his death drove ALL of his friends to suicide in different timelines), learned that his and his family's futures were gonna be cut short, and learned that his own DAD was going to be the one to carry that out via violently murdering them all. and hes like. god. anywhere from like 7-14 when he learns all of this and he never confides in Anyone EVER.......

and like the fact that this is the one and only piece of text IN ALL OF KAGEPRO where seto is shown expressing his feelings on this speaks for itself with how he just, bottles up and does not acknowledge his own feelings of despair like you can see his denial of his feeling in his overall demeanor throughout the story, laughing heehee hahaing with everyone at the theme park knowing they'll all die this week like hes crazy. he's crazier than kano bc kano at least breaks down but seto? ohhhh this crazy son of bitch doesnt break down until hes at the absolute limit (surviving after everyone dies + lying to mary for weeks + learning mary had been lying to him as well LIKE). but like the fact he can carry on AFTER HIS ENTIRE FAMILY DIES IN ONE NIGHT speaks volume of just how practiced he is in doing this shit, all of novel 8 seto pov is just Seto Repeatedly Denies That He Feels Grief For His Family 😃 and thru the most insane way by painting this narrative that he had always valued mary over everyone else, which is FALSE!!! BTW HE IS NOT A YANDERE..... FUCKING GRABS YOU LIKE oh my god hes not a yandere. he doesnt actually value mary over everyone else he is LYING like his whole character is characterized by wanting to change himself so he can support others and this EXTENDS BEYOND MARY.... literally this is the dude who speaks fucking weirdly bc he loved KIDO so much that he changed his speech patterns for her, at 14-ish years old starting looking for work so he could support his family, and he spent a whole night looking for kano.... like he loves his family. throughout novel 8 he's saying that he values mary more than anyone else but his actions? completely says otherwise...

and also the fucking shonen brave lyrics of how he talks about how he cant hear his own thoughts bc other people thoughts keep intruding and knocking on his mind, like not being able to recognize his own thoughts has always been a Thing with him like goddamnit im too sleepy to pull up the novel to grab more screenshots (hence why this post has a grand total of one quote from the screenshot lol), but like towards the end of novel 8 he basically has a moment where he says smth among the lines of like "-my own voice rang out, telling me 'you're wrong'." SOMETHING LIKE THAT. but yeah ignoring his feelings be it by his own accord or bc of the circumstances of his powers, has always been a Thing with seto.... SETOOOOOO

What is homestuck?

homestuck is a 8,123 page (series of) webcomic(s). the original comic started on the 13th of april 2009 and ended on the 13 of april 2016

its a very long and complicated story that i can basically describe as some kids fuck up their lives with the sims. its also quite unique in how it presents itself. how many other webcomics (that isnt homestuck related) has gifs and big animations and games shoved into it????

it became quite a cultural phenomenon with people in the millions coming to the site each day and breaking newgrounds bc the poor decision was made to host one of the big flashes (a 18 min long animation btw!!!) there

it also had the epilogues which is entirely text based and i refuse to acknowledge any further. after that is homestuck^2 which. basically continues the epilogues but in the original comic format. they had to stop doing the periodic updates bc the team behind it was being harassed if ircc. wild shit!

theres also 3 video games; hiveswap, friendsim and pesterquest. hiveswap has been super fun so far.... i love point and click games

ah also theres a shit load of warnings............... pls heed them if ur not comfortable with slurs (there are multiple extensions that remove them including the unofficial collection) blood gore etc and general uhhh. weirdness. put pretty much whatever you think of in there and then take away some. MAJOR FLASHING TOO

i dont want to spoil it for those who havent read homestuck yet and dont know shit about it but heres a hot tip that goes against what literally every other person says: DO NOT SKIP TO THE TROLLS. youll be quite lost and also its very very fun.... ALSO DOWNLOAD THE HOMESTUCK UNOFFICIAL COLLECTION. this thing is a lifesaver since the actual site itself is breaking down thanks to the flash shut down and general negligence. also it has other cool stuff in it like behind the scenes art and that one uncensored paradox space comic

i would love to explain the entire thing to you bc that is my talent but ummm. yeah. its long and its easier to read the comic in my opinion

time for a bunch of screenshots of my ultrakill ramblings because i officially have big time brainrot. will put under a readmore so there isnt a million screenshots with their exact content pasted in just in your face

[text: hey girl i’m putting so much thought into robot circulatory systems you wouldn’t even be able to imagine (reacted to with broken heart emoji)

i stand by the idea that machines in ultrakill often have artificial hearts

refueling (except for v1) is basically the same as getting a blood transfusion

they’ve got special ports for doing it but their major 'veins' (tubes in roughly the same regions as the human veins most often used for IV lines, at least in the humanoid ones) are all made of a self sealing material in case they have to be punctured in an emergency

usually the dedicated port would be on the chest or occasionally the crook of the arm but as long as you can assume it's an analog to a vein its fine. 'arteries' are no-go zones however because they’re just as pressurized as an actual human artery and will pump out blood readily

they’re more durably built than the 'veins' in order to keep them intact but they cant seal back up if damaged badly enough. the veins only re-seal for small punctures like needle sticks anyways

the IV ports can function as their own infusion pumps as well in case rapid transfusion is necessary and external equipment isn’t available

v1 is extremely weird i don’t know how it works except that it's circulatory system is partially modeled after some kind of open system. like how invertebrate circulatory systems work. i have no fucking clue whats up with it but i’m thinking about it now

it’s not totally open though because that would mean there’s a LOT of free fluid just. in there

this motherfucker runs on osmosis

its probably more correct to say diffusion than osmosis but um fuck you

v1 itself is a prototype but its the one that actually accomplished what it was designed to do

its predecessors may or may not even still be around

[text: every day i am very normal and oh so regular about v2 being a peacekeeper btw. i think about this a normal amount and will continue to think about this a normal, average amount

^i may have completely made up this in my brain but i’m sticking with it

anyways i don’t know how i never found this (’this’ being the second V2 terminal entry, text pasted below) on the wiki i’m rotating it so fast:

“After its defeat and escape, V2 dove deeper into Hell, killing other machines for their blood to help its recovery with the intent of taking revenge on V1 and recovering its original arm.After finding a temporary replacement from one of its victims, V2 used parts from other machines to transform the new placeholder arm into a mobility tool that would allow it to catch up to V1's fast descent into the deeper layers.In order to prepare for their second and final encounter, it researched the combat data from their previous battle to copy strategies and techniques from the older and more experienced V1 to give itself an upper hand.However, despite all its preparation, V2 lost again, and unable to escape this time, was brought to a swift and decisive end by its predecessor.”

yeah i think i totally made up that detail but there’s something about a war machine who's intended purpose became so completely irrelevant that it is instead reworked to function in times of peace in whatever possible role would be available that's so .

as opposed to kill kill bite maim explode v1 /end text]

[text: v2 IS a war machine and totally capable of fulfilling that role whenever but since there was no need for war machines by the time it was prototyped it’s not bound by any singular hard-coded mission. it’s like when the military makes something it absolutely intends on using for killing and then it’s just. no longer necessary, like at all. never gets used as intended. maybe gets recycled for something else entirely but i don’t know if the military does that because i don’t care about the military. but you understand what i’m saying here

[text: so yeah thinking about it again v2 wasn’t built with the actual intent of it being a peacekeeper but it chose to be one and stuck with that for (indeterminate amount of time because the timeline of events in ultrakill is barely anything)

and then things got fucky. and it was kinda like well. shit. and started getting more aimless. and then v1 showed up and put sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much spite into it

help i just had a dream with a VERY detailed made up show (movie???) about these ppl who were trying to find out how their dad died. and also there was a group of mercenaries that were pretending to be detectives. one of the mercs literally couldnt die unless she was hit in one specific spot near the lower gut and one of the not-mercs ALSO had that and no idea why. there was this one character who had been marketed as the main character but ended up just? being a random guy on the side who would pop up and make jokes out of nowhere in this Serious Show. like one scene on the yop floor of this extremely structurally unsound building he just randomly went 'its obvious this isnt ACTUALLY the sixth floor because that would be dangerous!' ???? the story itself was really interesting it turns out the son of the dad accidentally killed him and didnt realize he had? and he found out it was him bc one of the mercs had this cool....sight thing. he could see things about people. ANYWAY the reason im saying all this is bc after it ended i was like yess ok awesome and the screen started going through posts you had made? in my dream about it. they were very funny btw it was like.... ok there were a few different one but the one i remember best was this drawing of you in the lower left corner from behind pointing in a very scrangle way at a chunk of text you had written about the experiences one of the characters had and the subtext behind it and said character was standing there like [oblivious] . but i didnt get to read the text so i was like. ok i gotta remember the name of the show so i can check their blog when im awake. and i woke up and pulled out my phone and then. i forgot the name B:( and THEN i realized the show was made up. VERY SAD but also i thought it might be interesting to hear about

LMAO THATS REALLY FUN. CANT WAIT FOR THEM TO START PUTTING MY POSTS IN MOVIE THEATERS FOR REAL!!!!!!!!

idk if the villains will be saved or if the ending will be Shit but IF they end up getting saved isnt that a type of 'rebellion' (idk a better word) for heros? i mean if the generic premise of superheros stories is that heros defeat villains and thats it then choosing to save one is a type of statement by itself without having the need to do an essay on 'why ppl deserve help'. however, i would disagree, because i don't think it's uncommon to have villain characters who are saved by the heroes. there's a reason people have made the phrase "talk no jutsu" because of the general penchant for writing shounen protagonists breaking through to their adversary through motivational speeches, one of the big examples being sasuke who returned to the village that massacred his family. even in bnha, this has already happened through the examples i provided (gentle criminal and lady nagant).

even if you talk about the superhero genre, these examples are not uncommon. i'm personally not too familiar with comics, but through various adaptations i can already name the relationship between batman and harley quinn in the animated series, and wanda and pietro being accepted by the avengers in the mcu.

the idea of "saving the villain" isn't particularly rebellious, and in most cases i would argue that saving the villain isn't about making a statement about helping every kind of person, it's an ego trip to affirm the superiority of the protagonist's ideology, and i believe this because of how often the villain's saving comes with the villain "seeing the error of their ways" and renouncing their previous goals and motivations. for example, what happened to wanda and pietro's rightful grudge against tony stark for being a war profiteer?

sure, it's not always that deep and sometimes the messages that "win" are good ("you are not alone, friends make you stronger!"), but i think in bnha's case, it's pretty distasteful for a lot of reasons. assuming that my fears are correct, then that would mean the LOV would drop their opposition to the hero (law enforcement) system, which has up until now been a significant factor in their and their friends' and families' poverty, abuse, neglect, and/or deaths, and only then would they receive a helping hand.

I am a fan of that trend, and I understand not liking it, but claiming that writing it is just wrong and that is bad writing feels... gatekeepy? This isn't meant to be a hate anon, btw, I don't hate you or anything (hell idek who you are personally), but I just wanted to... idk, tell you? You might be unintentionally harming people that use those au's as a release.

Hey guys it's me Brayden and I am so here. I'm so excited to be playing again and stuff and I have already predicted the future that I'll be the winner. Anyways I was at an award ceremony for like the first 3 hours of the game which is kind of scary bc I feel like I missed alot but I'm trying to talk to people and stuff and see what's going on. I've briefly talked to Jodi, Amy, and Ginnifer (who is so hard to talk to btw I like send her messages trying to start a real conversation and she will just respond being like same or something). Anyways the other 2 people on my tribe are offline rn so ig I missed my chance to talk to them tonight so I'll do that tomorrow. Anyways I signed up to do counting and I'm so excited bc I literally KILLED the counting challenge on Kyoshi Islands so I'm so excited to hopefully kill it again. I also decided to play the hunt challenge even though I only have 3 chances bc I'm hoping alot of people will be scared to use one of their three chances to play in the first round and I can have a better chance of winning it. But I think I'm bad at puzzles. I didn't think it through that hard I think I got excited to play a challenge but whatever I'll probably win the advantage then in a few weeks win the whole game anyways see u later.

SO its the morning after the premiere!! Everyone's settled in!! and I kinda don't know how to feel?? Overall the premiere was kinda quiet, nothing happened worth noting tbh. Everyone on the tribe showed up, so thats good, but i think we're all just feeling each other out at the moment as for the people on my tribe! everyone seems chill but also i can't put my finger on it but SOMEHOW this tribe radiates chaotic energy. I don't know HOW or WHY but I just know it DOES. The way we're interacting in the tribe chat it seems like there's a very wide range of personalities and vibes. They're either gonna complement each other or clash, and I guess we're just gonna have to wait to find out which one!!! here are my quick night 1 first impressions that no one asked for :) Anastasia - she showed up kinda late bc she had life happening, understandable. BUT she kinda just jumped right in and started vibing with everyone!! so I think she's gonna be a strong social player. I talked to her and she seems really funny, I think I might really get close with her if I'm able to talk to her more Babs - IF our tribe does end up being chaotic, it's going to be because of Babs. They're definitely the most talkative and prominent person on the tribe, but I think they might come off as messy to others. they're really funny though!! so again I can see myself wanting to work with them if I can get to know them more. They are the biggest question mark on the tribe for me currently Elle - AH. I LOVE THEM ALREADY. Within minutes of us talking they mentioned Dylan and then I found out that they're DATING and I was SCREECHING. cutest shit i've ever heard. I'm so excited to meet and play with them. Dylan is one of my fave people in the org community so ofc I wanna get to know Elle and connect with them as well!! Jay - I think Jay seems like just a very genuine open person?? Like we talked for quite a while yesterday just about games and he was asking me questions about my experience with them and all that. idk if it's because he sees me as a threat or if its because he just actually wanted to get to know me. He lowkey gives me heterosexual vibes and idk if thats true or not but idk how to bring it up. but I def wanna keep talking to him and getting to know him!! I think he might be someone I can form a genuine friendship with Jennifer - kinda have no opinion so far. I think shes the quietest on the tribe. at least for me I didn't get the chance to hear from her much. kinda gives catfish vibes. kinda gives early boot vibes. idk. we'll see what happens!

So i realized Amy is runner up from the season before mine in another org and so we connected over that... of course we are not going to tell anyone else but we did have that going for us to get started. brayden is only 16 but he told me he loves magic and wanted to learn more about it so i told him id teach him some stuff! dennis and i called and connected well BUT hes kinda playing SUPER hard and wanting to throw challenges already to vote people out.. this has never worked out for anybody!! josh is cool, he works at a grocery store so he's gonna kill the "b" challenge. ginnifer has been the most MIA but i have faith that we'll work together well for the popularity contest. yall know i cant play the reverse flirt game i so badly want to coin, but i do have romance tea for yall tomorrow. stay tuned........

Jay and I talked last night so i guess we're best friends. We decided to make an alliance and try to get Elle in it. But everyone has been pretty inactive besides Jay and Collin. I've only slightly talked to Jessica this whole game and Babs hasn't even said one thing to me and I texted them hi. And apperently Babs has left Jay on opened too so they might just suck at talking right now. Hopefully Babs will talk to me they seem so funny and cool D:

The start to this game has been a freaking snails pace...it’s unbelievable to me that these people do not want to talk that much, especially when it’s a tribe of 6. Colin and I talk the most, I’ve gotten a decent amount out of Anastasia, and to me it feels like those 2 wants to work with me and I am fine with working with them. Usually in a larger group you want to figure out who you can work with long term and use the first few tribals to establish trust, I may throw that out the window since there’s only 5 other people on this tribe. My strategy needs to be who the hell can get me past these first few votes before a swap happens, and I feel like I can rely on Colin and Anastasia for that. I’d like to pull in Elle, because she’s the one who’s talked to me the most out of her, Babs, and Jennifer. Everyone seems nice, but it would be lovely if people would be more active.

I’m enjoying the fact our tribe won the first challenge everyone is very nice I love it :)

ok so apparently ginnifer isn't famous. she's just a bit quiet and mysterious. ok with me, just gonna take a while because I'm a loud and outspoken person (and player). amy, dennis and I have an alliance called "fang gang" (it's really just 3 emojis of vampires) and we're going to run the premerge hopefully. I do like brayden a lot, and maybe I'll propose a 3 with him, amy and myself to have a solid 4 control the votes until a swap. round 1 not bad so far!

Jodi: I believe Jodi is thriving on this tribe. She is very obviously a social player who picks up on the littlest details. I’m sure she can sniff out a plot if it comes down to it. However, Jodi is the plot. She is the leader of her tribe and is easily the most active person in the game at the moment. So long as she keeps a smile on her face and doesn’t overextend to do something messy, she will find that she will make it safely to merge. Allying with Amy could be dangerous however since Amy has stated she needs to be voted out before a certain date. This means that Jodi needs to socialize with other members of her tribe and get new allies before hers will inevitably be voted out of the game.

Amy: Even though she wants to get voted out, Amy has set herself up perfectly at Jodi’s side. She can take the heat off of herself using Jodi and is able to hide better than others. As always, her UTR game has come out to shine. She hasn’t had anyone call her out and even though Jodi has seen her play she is still able to gain her trust.

Josh: Doing so well in the challenge has earned Josh’s place here. He makes his worth known early and has a great personality as well. This makes him very safe for any early tribal councils as no one is going to want to take him out; they want him on their side. Similar to Amy, he just seems to be using an under the radar social game which he is executing well at the present moment. And, as the star of the challenge, he makes himself safe for future tribals before the swap. However, I do fear that this early impression of competition prowess will come back to haunt him if he makes it to the merge.

Dennis: I would put Dennis higher, but Jodi, his ally, already is suspicious of him. She seems to think of him as a bit of a sneak and, as the tribe leader, her opinions matter the most. It is good that he is able to be Jodi’s ally so she might stray away from voting him out. However, his desire to go to tribal and play the game so early may bite him in the butt later down the line. I can definitely see him being called out for trying to play too hard too fast. At the moment, he remains high because he seems to be decently social and no one except Jodi has sniffed him out.

Brayden: There’s not much to say on Brayden’s game. He doesn’t seem to have any allies, his challenge performance wasn’t as good as others on his tribe, and he is not in any alliances yet. This spells disaster for Brayden if his tribe goes to consecutive tribal councils. Additionally, even though he was one of the few to play in the Hunt, he didn’t win and wasn’t even close to doing so. He even gave up part way through to do the immunity challenge. I would be saving them if I were Brayden, but hindsight is 20/20. If Brayden can squeeze into being the fourth of the Jodi, Amy, Dennis alliance instead of Josh then maybe his game forecast will be better.

Ginnifer: The thing that lands Ginnifer on the bottom is that she said that her tribe could vote her out if they lost the challenge. This primes people to already be willing to get rid of her in this game. Additionally, some people have expressed difficulty with talking to Ginny such as Jodi and Amy. The former still wants to give Ginny a try at being an ally while the latter was ready to vote her out if necessary. Ginny just needs to pick up social steam and outperform in the next comp if she’s going to have longevity in this game.

Fools

Jessica: In lieu of a clear leader, Jessica has stepped up as she started the first alliance on her tribe with Moth and Jared. No doubt, Jessica’s prior relationship with Moth helped facilitate. Additionally, this seems to paint them as the “active” members of this not active tribe. Therefore, it will be very easy for Jessica to dictate votes without getting labelled as a threat since her tribe is not active enough to do so. I can definitely see her leaning on Moth as a crutch, but for now she is the topdog of her tribe. Especially so since she was the only member of her tribe to win a challenge in Divide and Conquer.

Moth: As Jessica’s right-hand person, Moth is a secure spot. It also helped that they have played this game before and is on a not active tribe. This vibes well with Moth’s gameplay style since they aren’t a social powerhouse like Jodi or Colin. Instead, she keeps it more lowkey which makes this tribe in particular a great tribe for her to thrive in.

Jared: While he hasn’t provided a confessional yet, it’s clear he’s positioned himself well with Moth and Jessica. As the topdogs of the tribe, they are key people to get in with. Besides that, he seems to be a little more active than some others, but there’s not much else to say as of right now.

Danny/Shaad: Him and Shaad can trade spots on this ranking because they are playing similar games at the moment. They are both quiet and inactive, yet are not part of the core alliance of this tribe. This could spell danger for them in upcoming tribal councils if they don’t start working on people now. They seem to be safe for now based solely on Bri’s inactivity, but, otherwise, they need to pick up their socio-strategic game before it is too late.

Bri: She seems to be the most likely person to get voted out. She was not online at all for the first two days of the game and has since remained inactive. She is easy pickings for the top 3 of this tribe which really hurts my heart. I know her in real life and she is very sociable and easy to get along with. I have no doubt that in a real life game of Survivor or Big Brother, she would kill the social game.

S.E.E.S.

Colin: Similar to Jodi, Colin is the most social person on his tribe at the moment. However, unlike Jodi, he has not taken a leader position which works to his benefit. Despite being social, Colin has been able to slip under the radar of most people with a lot of them wanting to work with him. Colin is easily going to survive until the swap, but I will caution him from getting too many allies too quickly. This tribe in particular has a wildcard willing to blow things like that up so he needs to be careful.

Elle: Similar to her previous games, Elle plays an extraordinary social game and becomes very well-liked very easily. They have no problem fitting into any situation and I foresee them making it far if they gain the right allies. What puts her at number 2 as opposed to number 1 is that she hasn’t made any strategic comments yet. Instead, she is focusing on a social game which is not a bad thing. Colin has just shown more of his gameplay in these rounds.

Anastasia: Anastasia, despite being late to the premiere, has been able to socialize with key people such as Colin and Jay. Her prior connection with Elle has also sparked an interest in Colin in working with the two of them as an alliance. Overall, her and Elle sort of share the 2 and 3 spot since they are both well-liked, did well in the challenge, and are prime allies for Colin whose word will feel like law if this tribe ever goes to tribal.

Jay: Jay is neither here nor there. He isn’t in the bottom, but he is not calling the shots either. It is good that Colin wants him as his number 1 and that Anastasia likes him. Out of the three outside of this potential Elle, Colin, Anastasia alliance, he seems like he will be most likely to be saved until a swap occurs. His calls with people have certainly been helping with that as people are able to bond more with him through there. His activity could use work, but he doesn’t need to be active if he’s liked.

Babs: With another Jodi comparison, Babs has taken the leadership position of their tribe. However, they are not as social and, in fact, considered a big threat since they are so willing to talk freely and openly in the tribe chat. Their gameplay is going to be Messy, and people have already pointed that out, making them a clear target if this tribe goes to tribal council. Despite that, they aren’t at the bottom since some people, like Colin, have expressed interest in working with that kind of player as a sort of shield. If Babs were to tone it down and be more social with people (another problem with their game), they may be able to crawl up these rankings.

Jennifer: Sadly I have to put another phonetic Jennifer at the bottom. She did the worst in the challenge across her tribe and isn’t active either. For this round, it seems she would be the easy vote if this tribe had gone to tribal. She needs to start being more social and be more of a presence in people’s minds.

Long asks anon again, here to offer my opinion on the current wank. Rey as a character is rather blatantly breaking sw story rules and nothing is going to get SFF fans hackles up like rule breakage. This is root of both the MarySue accusations and current wank. Rey has a tragic backstory thats doubling as the only failure she can call her own. But its a) damn near entirely offscreen and b) serves as convenient justification for why shes competent at near everything that comes up.

Reys instantly good at the force because of a convenient force download that to the best of my knowledge only occured in the noncanon KOTOR II and quite frankly cant blame most of the general audience for not getting because without prior knowledge or the novelizations why would they? She has darkness in her but as so far used and touched it consequence free and its almost entirely symbolically externalized on the Kylo (and in SW symbolism is Real in a way it isnt in other narratives) Shes strong in the force because Light rises to meet Dark but to quote the current crop of movies ‘thats not how the force works) or at least thats never how it worked before. Shes the first SW protagonist to go behind enemy lines and come out with both hands in the second movie. For ppl wondering how come Luke and Ani never get labeled MarySues, this is why, they got thier asses handed to them, Rey hasnt. There /is/ something /off/ in Reys story, and ppl pick up on it. if you can make a post (w/ over 1k notes!) about how great it is that a character meant to prop up 7hrs worth of movies has little to no character development to go through, somethings off. If multiple ppl can make posts about how its neat Rey can tap into the darkside (still characterized as evil in ST) consequence free (with some quite frankly stupid justifications, 'shes disciplined’ really? jedi lacked a lot of things thats not one of them) somethings off and again, if the only failure your main heroine has is /entirely retroactive something’s off/. If the story were getting with the is the story most ppl think we are, a 'female empowerment’ (i dont feel particularly empowered by being told I have an equal chance at being a deus ex machina but ok) than well, her story is over and theres no need for IX (hell it could have been over in TFA, most ppl assumed she had accepted her place as the future jedi in that one) and no need for reylo The ST was always gonna deconstruct all that came before it purely by virtue of being a sequel. The tragedy of anakin skywalker is now a farce, the happy ot ending now a tragedy, and the mythopoetic structure shot to shit in the name of serialization and perpetual warfare. this stand true for all the sequel characters including rey and ben. the only question is are we going to get anything out of it? I compare it to home renovation. You can knock out a wall and the walls gone, but new opportunities arise. With Benlo, I’m reasonably confident that there will be at least some attempt to take advantage of the new space. With rey and the resistance kids? not so much. it just feels like they knocked down a blue wall to rebuild it as pink one and at the point it just feels like a waste of time because ive seen this before. Ive seen pure cinnamon roll desert orphan reform jedi order If this was all youre going to do that the fuck was the point? which circles around to my problem with team good guy this go around and That Scene. JJ twisted the story into a pretzel to justify the winners of the last round being the underdogs again and then rian twisted so much further the storys head may as well be up its own ass. And then at the very end he shoots it all to shit and rushes to reassure us its all gonna be okay. He removes the entire point of the underdog trope /the tension that comes from the fact that they might lose/. I mean there wasnt a whole lot of that to begin with already but really? So theres no tension that Reys gonna win so her journey feels frictionless, and theres no question where shes gonna end up so full offense why give a shit? Thats where the whole 'can rey lose a fight?’ thing comes from. Ppl want conflict in her arc to justify its existence and give us a reason why this her story to begin with. if the only character going through growth for all three movies is ben, if the only characters whos fate is up in the air is ben, and if all the tension in the reylo relationship comes from ben, then why is this /reys story/? why not just make it about the character actually driving all the drama and thus, the story? As a final thought, im going to add that having Kylo be aware and insecure that hes never gonna be as Iconic as Vader was a great story choice, regardless of where ends up. Current Rebels, on the other hand, seems to have not gotten the memo that they are never gonna be as iconic as Original Rebels, and the story itself seems to being trying to sell them to me as being better. Rey is Luke but better, Poe/Finn are Han wo the smuggler grit, and id be lying if i said it didnt piss me off.

If you have to debate it chances are either a) ur arguing counter to the text in which case mor power to you but not really helpful for predictions or intended meaning or b) /it aint there. A bunch of ppl didnt like anidala, but nobody doubted we were supposed to think they were in love by the end of AOTC, bunch of ppl didnt like poes arc, but no one doubts he fucked up by not listening to holdo was the intended take away. Which brings to rey and flaws or lack there of. Were told rey has flaws but she has yet to suffer any real consequences from them with the exception of The Damn Parentage Wank, which again, pulls the double duty of making her hyper competent at everything. Because rey has no consequences for her flaws, from a story function pov there aren’t any. If rey did have a flaw to overcome, we would all agree what it was

Now won’t you all just look at this beautiful, spot on rant which has been lagging in my askbox since the last time Rey’s flaws or lack thereof were the discourse’s focus (November, I believe?) and suddenly became a thing again, courtesy of Tweetgate. I think you really summed up the crux of this debate wonderfully, anon.

I particularly agree with the part about Rey not getting narratively punished for whatever flaws we’d like her to have (great point about returning from behind the enemy lines with both arms still in place), when SW don’t stay away from allowing characters to get “punished” even for otherwise applaudable features - vide Padmé, whose idealism is what Palps manipulates into gaining more power (this is why Padmé will never come off as a Mary Sue or too perfect, btw). But I’ll say even more - Rey doesn’t even get called out on her flaws, except for by Ben, who’s mostly dismissed as a baddie like Palpatine saying Luke was foolish to rely on his friends. Let’s just consider one thing - both Anakin and Luke get called out on their flaws by Yoda (Anakin repeatedly and by lots of other people for that matter) whereas with Rey, the same grumpy-yet-jolly senex pops up from the afterlife to further inform us what a great jedi material she is.

TBH, I have a very cynical theory as to why Rey is being pushed as the main character while it’s difficult to deny that it’s Kylo Ben who does all the plot heavy lifting. I’m pretty sure Ben’s arc was the first one DLF thought out (and the big question is, was it the only one they thought out) and only later on decided to make Rey the main character, which also involved much less spontaneous writing. Mind you, it’s not as if benepemption didn’t have a manufactured subtaste to it, but with Rey’s heroine’s journey stiff structure occasionally substitutes any in-world explanations of her actions (this is why I have to hope renperor has some narrative purpose rather than happening because lovers need to be separated and anti-hero needs to achieve what he wanted in 2nd act). I feel as if whatever potential her character had (and hopefully still has, pending IX) got smothered by layer upon layer of making her likable by everyone, which largely relied on negative characterization: she’s not helpless, she’s not too naive, not cynical, not too emotional, not too emotionless, not morally corruptible, not anything you’ve ever complained about regarding any SW character, not falling for the bad boy, not not not - and in the end it’s kinda difficult to say what Rey is like and while the goal of making her widely likable was achieved, it also made it almost impossible to view her as loveably flawed/annoying like the classic characters. And on top of all this is the matter of making her a nobody just like you!, as DLF appears to say with uncle Sam’s gesture (which also kinda assumes the existence of a Star Wars fan as some uniform entity? because if you identify with her, good for you, I just don’t understand why the franchise assumes I’ll identify with her by the grace of being a SW fan alone), because, as you excellently put it, the message here is that everyone can be chosen by God - which again, it’s not as if the saga ever contradicted this, so why the hell make a case of it? I can’t agree that it’s made into Rey’s flaw, though, imo her low birth only serves to further frame her as an oppressed virtue. And I definitely agree regarding too much of her growth being left off-screen, or before the story ever begins. The problem here isn’t even that it is left off-screen (it’s not as if we had huge insight into any of the pt or ot characters) but rather that her characterizations is left off-screen while being depicted as at least untypical (unique to put it bluntly) for her situation (same goes for Finn). A hopeful, kind person growing up on her on her own in slavery under a nicer name is a rarity and DLF makes a case for it being a rarity - and this sparks up curiosity in her past, as if market pandering to Re/sky wasn’t enough. So from this pov her un-reveal being frustrating isn’t just a case of not wanting to love her or her self only a potentially deeper psychological question getting answered with well, light.

I should add, Ben’s arc feels like the most spontaneous one (though Finn’s may yet be a masterpiece) and he’s the one to admit his fear of not living up to Vader’s legacy, because I think he’s the character serving as the creators’ vessel, more or less like Luke was Lucas’ avatar in ot. In his fear regarding Vader’s legacy one can feel Disney’s fear due to having bought popculture’s holy grail and not being entirely sure what to do with it. On this background, Rey (a literal scavenger of OT’s pieces) and rebels 2.0 repeatedly blessed by Leia come off as what DLF would want to be. And the result is that the character which was supposed to be Vader 2.0 proves the most original and surprising one, whereas “breaths of fresh air” come off as room aromatizers with “fresh” written on them.

And as far as the plot being bended into a pretzel and then disappearing up it’s own ass, well, a part of me is still hoping that taking virtually the same villains as before is a mythological-psychoanalitical metaphor of a nigredo repeating itself until the unconscious gets accepted by the conscious…. but, tbh, as the leaks flow this hope is withering.

Disclaimer i am a programmer. Coding is definitly required.I recently read the post about "idea to startup in 5 hours" and figured i could reflect on it with something "bigger".The IdeaI always carry plenty of ideas around and get them out whenever bored to rethink them until they stick. This one idea started as a way to big thing for a single person. Basically offering a subset of Mailgun as sole dev seems not plausible. Especially not for a MVP.It took at least 2 months (maybe thinking about it once every 2 weeks for a few minutes) until i scoped to idea down the my personal core problem and identify a way i (and hopefully others) would want to use this product.This is IMO the most important phase. Think ideas dead. If they are still interesting after months you may are onto something. Also scope them down to a MVP that still already is a sellable product.The idea itself is not revolutionary. I can name you at least 10 services that offer a similar functionality and plenty of people already got it for free when they buy domains. However there is no dead simple optimized solution for everyone else.The TestingI hate testing for demand with common ways like landing pages and collecting Emails. So i did not do that.But at first i made a few posts on reddit and similar and asked about if people think they could need my idea. The general answer was either nothing or no.What i did then is to identify my competitors and figure out how much traffic they are getting for the specific problem i solve. I also identified blog posts that tackle this specific problem, where i noticed that every single solution is both complicated and expensive or simply not production ready. However all blog posts had a serious amount of comments, seems its something people need or want.There was also plenty of testing on the software side. Its about sending emails after all and needs plenty of infrastructure working together in a smooth way. However this is technical and not part of this post.The CreationAs good developer i developed some very lazy habbits. I cloned my Rails starter template, throw in a Bootswatch theme and replaced the brand color with a dark blue/violette ish one to shout out how professional we are. That setup, i started to put my idea into code.In the development process i hit corners and unsolved questions every so often. Sometimes instead of trying to solve them until i get a headache i would just move away and ignore the project for a week or two. In my experience these problems often solve themself over time as long as you implemented the initial thought seed into your head.If i ever saw myself doing something overly complicated in code or UX i took a step back and went to my down-scoping again until i had something clean and simple.This took about 4 months all in all. However i lived in at least 3 different cities over 2 countries in that time, so there have been plenty of periods without coding at all.The "MVP"I call it MVP because in my mind it is that. However for the customer i want it to appear like a finished product. Sometimes people say MVP when they just collect emails, sometimes a MVP is a technical prototype, however my MVPs are actual minimal products.My SaaS did one single thing. Forwarding emails. Like when you own a domain it will forward all emails to that domain to your normal inbox (like Gmail or Hotmail). However it did this one thing great, it is faster than the competition and way easier to use (mostly as there is no other functionality)To underline the point of a solo "side" project i put emphasis on personality. Next to the "professional" appearance i added personal details, stories and opinions to make it look more "real" and "human". I would also answers to emails with my personal email.Marketing "Plan"Honestly i dont like Marketing. Well i do, but i hate doing it. I always try to find the most minimal low efford way to get around that. Sounds stupid but it sometimes works for me.First i focused on my branding. As mentioned above i tried to make it look professional, i tried to reflect this in some of the marketing texts as well. As i do email transaction and people love privacy i made a big point about the privacy we offer as well. Hosting in Switzerland is basically part of the marketing strategie.The LaunchLike anyone these days i launched on Reddit, Product Hunt, Hacker News, ... However i did not get positive feedback, or barely any feedback at all. At this point i realized that my target audience is kind of hard to specify, domain owners yes, but more domain hoarders or sideproject hoarders. So i tried targetting more to them, again no real response.I went back to the blog articles i mentioned above and either wrote a comment or asked the blogger to include my service (which is still the majority of my traffic these days btw)Very slow growth started to appear after these comments.The Feedback loopOnce customers were here first feedback started to come in. Honestly i implemented most of it, but also because my initial customers really just wanted small additions that really made sense without cluttering the UX.This also build trust to some of my initial customers.The GrowthHowever while it never blow off there have been a few first registrations from all this. And it never stopped anymore. First i would get a registration per week, then per day and now its more like 2-3 per day.Every customer is a paying customer and right now after less than a year i have about 500 of them. Growing daily. The site never was not profitable after the first 2 weeks. I never spent anything on ads either.It doesnt pay a lot of my bills yet, but we are getting there. Also the now regular buying offers are flattering for my ego :)The TakeawaysYour idea does not have to be sexy or new. People really need unsexy things every single day. Plus with the right mind set, your idea can be sexy for you even thoughts its boring :)Just do it. And dont let anyone get you down. I was not able to find a single person that would say build it so they can use it, however once it was build more and more people realized the usefulness. I was very certain this would work, we all know this can be a wrong feeling tho so be prepared to throw it away and start from scratch.Give it time. Things usually dont blow of from day one. My first project that literally exploded in traffic still only made $30 the first month, after half a year we were already close $1000 and after a year i declared it as my main income. Normal projects, especially "boring" ones will never explode, but they'll grow naturally.Dont overthing it. Right now i am in the process of rewriting the SaaS. All the wrong decissions i made in my initial MVP can now be removed and replaced. I can copy paste a lot and generally know the application well enough that writing from scratch isnt really a pain anymore.As always scratch your own itch. I found it awesome to login to my own product to solve a issue i had for years now. This does not only help the keep passionate and motivated, but also helps to identify issues and missing features as i am one of my core customers.This is essentially what i wanted to tell. I hope this can inspire some people to just do their thing and stop worrying so much about everything from Marketing over Growth Metrics to Validation.The link is not included as i hate this self promoting posts that obviously are just in for the backlinks.
