This is a vent post.

I saw this post about wanting to bring back the energy and vibes and community that was in the 2016 era of the UTMV community. And at first I was elated. I joined the fandom in 2017 and I look back fondly on the community I found myself in. Lots of fanfic comments. Lots of RP Roleplays. Lots of Askblog activity and in-character answers and all these wonderful things.

Yes, there were toxic and mean things too. There always are. But I never really found myself in any of it. I only remember the fun and the joy.

And I initially reblogged that post excitedly responding to it. And I went to the blog to see if they posted anything else good.

And I saw their DNI. "Proship DNI".

Their pinned post literally said to me "hey disclaimer just so you know 'i dont support harassment', but if you (also) dont support harassment, if you enjoy shipping, if you think censorship is bad, then don't talk to me because I think youre a terrible person and deserve being harassed."

And they wonder why the 2016 era of UTMV died.

I would have loved to interact. I would have loved to gush about AUs and fanworks and art. But that person left a big sign saying they think I deserve hate for enjoying fiction and that they dont want to talk to me.

Like. Bro. That is kinda the reason youre not getting 2016 UTMV back. You dont wanna associate with "nasty proship" people. Who uh. sorta made UTMV. UTMV (and lets face it, fandom in general) was built on the backs of Proshippers. (although that is sort of an anachronistic statement -- the idea of "proshipping" is new because it was the default, expected political stance. it wasnt "proship vs anti", it was "everyone (aka proship) vs trolls and haters (aka anti)") Then a bunch of haters started being nasty to frans and papyra and fontcest shippers, and puritanical rhetoric ripped apart what was left of the fandom after art theft and the tumblr purge drove the artists away.

The fandom isnt going to knit itself back together unless we foster a community mindset, which we can only do if we all agree to ship-and-let-ship. Block and mute tags you dont like, learn to recognize when an AU isnt for you, and dont play in tags you dont actually like.

But like, just because I like the color Green doesnt mean I cant appreciate Blue or Red. You can hate Green all you want but alienating Green likers is just going to make it harder to live in a society where nobody is making you like Green.

I dunno I just feel like its not fair to ask for a community effort and simultaneously condemn the very people who would have been part of your community for not being good enough for you. It's mean spirited. It's rude. It's cruel.

I want 2017 UTMV back. I would be more than happy to get to see 2016 UTMV with my own eyes. But it isnt coming back, because it takes people to make a community and nobody wants to make a community welcoming and safe.

Hi, there! I'm @jnix-2006 and welcome to my ask blog, ask-commander-arild!! I made this blog for @pkmoth's @motherbound-askapalooza, and I plan on participating the entire month of August, but if it does well, I may continue it!! But, bear with me, because I don't use tumblr much, so this is all very new to me, haha. Before we start, I feel I should give a little bit of introduction to what exactly this is. So, firstly, what exactly is an Arild? Well, Arild is an OC I created for the game Mother 3 (Heavy spoilers btw)! He can be seen below!

Say hello to Arild Eskildsen! A young Norwegian lad of 15 years old who, through a series of unfortunate events, was once a pigmask. I know his design may look a little... 2015, but the design quite literally came to me in a dream, and I would've been stupid not to use it. Now, as much as I'd love to go into detail about his backstory, I wanna save most of it for the asks. I guess the most basic gist is that he was taken from our time, currently in the 2010's but may change later, from a very young age, and made to be a pigmask. Yippee, child soldier! He goes on to be promoted to captain. But after yet another unfortunate event, he ends up being chimera-ified and he gets promoted to commander, but not of the pigmasks... Of what, you ask? Well, we'll get there. For now, here's him as a captain!

Few things to keep in mind for this blog:

1. I don't have many artistic abilities, unfortunately, so this will be a text only blog. Some friends have kindly made a few pieces for Arild, and I will show them off, but for the most part, there won't be much in the way of visuals. If you feel like making art of him, feel free! I would actually love to see it!!

2. Quite a lot of the stuff here is going to involve my own headcanons for the Mother series, especially post-game Mother 3. For example, in my headcanon, Claus survives and becomes the leader of the army, rebranding it in the name of peace, and that is why Arild is a commander. Basically, since everyone has unique headcanons for the series, you can just consider this an AU.

3. There will be mention of a couple real life places that will have Mother-ified names. With any mention of Norway, the name will changed to Fjordland, on account of its many... fjords. Canada is also an important place within the story, and that I have decided to call Mapleland. Creative, I know. I figured I would bring it up to avoid confusion

4. Feel free to ask whatever! Though, obviously, just make sure it's on topic, of course. Silly questions are easy to answer and will usually be answered quickest! Lore relevant questions are a little trickier and may take me just a bit longer to respond to, but I will be happy to get to them!! Also, RP is okay with me, if you want to!!

5. When it comes to asking questions, please don't be weird or anything. Like... being a former pigmask, Arild is a plus-sized character, so a comment about his weight would not be great. More importantly, absolutely NO NSFW. This character is a minor, and that stuff is not okay to ask. I don't think any of this will be an issue, but it's good to mention just in case

6. I do not speak Norwegian, so if I want to sprinkle it in a little bit, I have only on option. Google Translate. I know, I know... it's not the best, but I will try my best to avoid mistranslations or misuse of phrases. I wouldn't want to be the new version of that one post about the Norwegian Butter Crisis, haha.

#unreality — what was up with all that?

➥ it’s been a little over a day, so i figured i should probably explain myself…

TLDR: i impulse-made an arg, decided against going through with it, and left the parts i had already finished up rather that undoing the work. it was going to be themed to a story, but not horror.

➥ below the cut will be the above message in more detail and the “solutions” to the parts of the arg that went up. ⤦

so! i (very much on a whim) was inspired by all the daily vitamin blogs to try making my own arg. after my counterpart-of-sorts, vitamin-akito went on a hiatus, i suppose i wanted to continue getting that arg fix—but by trying my hand at creating one. my hope was that it would be subtle enough that it wouldn’t effect things on this blog for those who wouldn’t be interested in such a thing. it wasn’t horror-themed and i wanted to utilize hiding things in plain sight, so i only had to be suspicious long enough for people to pick up on it, and those that were in the know would then be given more clues/codes/directives on the side while the blog otherwise ran normally.

unfortunately for me, i must be quite a bit more nosy than the average person, and no one really seemed to pick up on my “subtle” approach. i eventually tried tagging things with unreality and posting hints when i saw no one was making any progress, but the only one i know of who got to the end was my irl fish, who had some hints from me, and of course the added assistance of me accidentally reblogging one of her posts to the secret side blog, making it pretty clear i was hiding something. to her credit, she went through the process of finding that blog properly, so she’s still the “winner” of the scrapped arg to me!

the clues are all still there if you have a desire to look for them now. otherwise i’ll be writing up an explanation/walkthrough of what i had left up below. i’ll try to leave clear blocks between steps in case you want to use it as a hint when you need but otherwise solve it on your own. i’ll also be including my thought process where applicable.

and just to be very clear this is /gen /srs. no lying. this is ooc, me irl, mod speaking, telling you that there is no more arg. this is not just a misdirection or anything like that. there is no more arg. 👍

also i’m not mad at all that nobody really found anything. it was experimental for me, and it was specifically designed for someone to be like “that’s weird…i’m going to comment on that and see where it goes.” part of my decision to leave it up was to answer the question “how close to other people look?” so i don’t blame anyone for not engaging much with it. in hindsight, i didn’t really give any reason for intrigue like the vitamin blogs use. i was purely relying on people being nosy. so it this was a learning experience for me.

perhaps in the future i will run an arg on a separate blog with the same/similar idea. tbf, my idea was almost more kohane-focused than akito-focused anyways, which is partly why i scrapped the idea. the other part being i chickened out of the rp aspect (i have ✨anxiety✨) so unless you’re reading this like “i think a combo arg/rp blog where i try to save my favourite pjsk characters from doom would cure what ails me, and i need it now,” and are willing to profess that supportive desire to me, it probably won’t happen any time soon. and i may not put my name on it if i ever do make it.

but without further rambling ado, here’s the solution to the first part of arg that’s all still up online:

① the buildup

the original “subtle” plan to clue people in to the arg was the series of screenshots taken from the neo 2DMV. all posted without any comment and tagged with only “#from neo 2DMV” and “#akito_posting”

the underscore is not in my actual “#akito posting” tag, and was meant to be a clue in that something about these posts was off, and that they were connected. if the images are brightened/adjusted and zoomed in on (as shown below in order of their posting) they all contained the text “day 203.” personally i can still see the text without adjustment, but they is probably helped by me knowing where and what to look for. in my plans, the arg would always tell you the next day to look for clues. it wouldn’t be fair to make you comb through every image that goes up on the blog, so i figured that was a fair compromise for my “hiding in plain sight” gimmick.

as time went on and i didn’t notice anyone picking up on anything being strange, i added the unreality tag to the final neo screenshot, which had “day 203” hidden in it 3 times and just “203” another 3 times. i’ll admit 2-3 of them got very hard to see with the compression, but i was still thinking some would be findable.

come the time of their posting however, i got comments on the unreality tag, but no one seeming to successfully find the answers—leading to me writing this post the evening it went up with the colored text as clues to where in the image to look, as when i told irls where in the image to look they did not have trouble finding things. the final lines in pink were a way a just implying that all the clues in that post led to the same post, so it was OK if it was too hard to read some of them. additionally the use of the akito_posting and unreality tags were meant to tie it back. the tags also said it was a hint and not me trying to write a heartfelt akitoya poem…but another experiment of mine proved that people might not read my tags as much as i assumed. this post did go up in the middle of the chibi akito saga however, and fish did tell me it got lost for her, so it’s possible my data there was a little unfairly skewed.

② day 203

as day 203 was going into the main tags, it already had unreality as a warning. i also added the tag “aRe You PAyInG AtTeNtiOn? diD you catCh the siGns? diD yOU evEN kNoW to LoOk FoR It?” as a last ditch effort of “hey, this is the one. look at this one.” as for the strange capitalization, we’ll discuss that later…

each image contains one hidden letter, shown below, in order, with adjustments for visibility.

however, since no one seemed to find anything again. (fish was working on it since i had already asked her to check on the “day 203” hint, and i asked her to post some of her progress to see if that could help anyone else out.) i added another hint post.

the three symbols are meant to represent contrast, brightness, and sharpness in a photo editor, all of which are applied to the zoomed in akito from day 203. those are my suggestions for the best ways to make the hidden text a bit easier to see, tho once again they are visible if you just zoom in on the right spot. each symbol also contained a link, to the #akito_posting tag, the day 203 post, and an online tool for cyphers respectively. the tags also include a new tag 🥓🔍 which was a hint for the actual cyphers meant to save anyone from wasting too much time trying to work the code in the wrong direction.

③ @LVTEZD

so if you put all the letters in order, you’ll find this blog on tumblr. lvtezd is a caesar cypher with a shift of 11 for “akitos” but that’s just a fun fact so i could have a random name for the hidden blog and i enjoyed that 11 is akito’s character number.

now lvtezd is primarily blank. the pfp is a darkened screenshot from the journey 2DMV to match with akito-daily and be a little reassurance that you’re in the right place. there is one post.

if you recall from the tags of the day 203 post, there’s some wacky capitalization going on. typo intentional. btw.

as of writing this post now, i’m thinking the au mentioned here might not actually be posted to akito-daily so i can save it for the potential arg/rp blog i make in the future. there’s plenty of similar aus out there i can draw for and i have plenty of my own aus (mostly crossovers 👉👈) to put on akito-daily so i’m keeping this one close to the chest for now.

④ the final message

recall that 🥓🔍 from earlier? a quick google should point you in the right direction.

but if you’re just here to read the write-up, then that’s meant to be a little hint at “bacon cypher.” named for a guy whose surname was bacon. simply put, bacon’s cypher encodes a each individual letter to a five-piece string of two figures. typically a and b. this can be applied to plain text by letting a = lowercase characters, and B = uppercase characters. also i = j and u = v for the version i used, so getting “haue” at the end is not a true error.

i unfortunately had to encrypt my final message manually, as i couldn’t find a tool online to do it for me and don’t know how to write a code/algorithm that could do it for me. fortunately for you solvers, i have found a tool on the cypher website linked to earlier that will take text and convert all lowercase characters to 0 and uppercase characters to 1. the output may look like binary, but this is still bacon’s code. depending on the bacon decrypter you’re using, you might be able to tell it 0 = a and 1 = B, otherwise you can use a text replacement tool to convert your 0’s and 1’s to a’s and b’s.

you probably will get a result out with no spaces or punctuation, but it should be easy enough to get to this final message:

“a mind after my own i see / really though i decided not to do the arg / thank you for the effort / this is the end of the rabbit hole / you have my word”

the text in the tags on day 203 follows the exact same decryption process, giving “look carefully”

if you happen to see this and want to know how i did the encryption manually, i used the set up below. red box for the plain text, blue box for the bacon code for each letter, and green for the plain text with the capitalisation i then just to typed it up as shown. unfortunately this was a lengthy process (what’s shown below is only about a fifth or sixth of my total work) and obviously there is quite a bit of room for error. i think i had 4 or 5 letters off (out of maybe a 80 or so?) that i had to correct when i checked the decryption.

You see your mutual post a Headcanon? Aesthetic? Drabble? Replying to your sent meme? You like that post. It's not hard to do and your mutual won't just feel like invisible waste of space if their stuff goes by without notes.

Entitled shitheads have been spreading the absolute nonsense that likes are worthless and only comments matter. But likes DO matter. A like is always better than just NOTHING, and that's not rocket science either. You're happy when your posts get acknowledged too, don't you??

Please love and care for your mutuals. Make them feel seen, even if you don't have the time or energy to read their post right away. Just hit that darn ♡ button, or reply with a 💜 instead if you 'don't want to clutter your likes'. RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS : Uhhh, pet peeves? I don't quite get what's with people not liking posts anymore or using the reply/comment feature more, like if you see someone posting an hc. Take a second to read? Give it a like or comment a heart even, if you're really that pressed to control your likes..... Dealbreakers, I haven't encountered anyone, I guess it'd be just if I pushed to write or make smut centric, but no one is doing that.

MUSE PREFERENCES : I like characters that have an internal struggle (lol that could be anyone). I don't know. I try to write so many types of characters, but characters like Clint I always come back too. Honestly, whatever is the character type that's been Clint Barton and Pepper Potts.

PLOTS OR MEMES : Memes are usually good to start, but I definitely wouldn't mind doing more plotting and giving a general direction to a thread. Although, really memes are great, and I truly appreciate those who send a bunch of memes, or don't mind treating some memes as one shots ( i love one shots ; just look at the length of some of my ask responses )

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES : Both. I want more shorter threads right now, but I have a knack for getting wordy and writing long things. This is why length matching does not matter, as long as there is enough substance to continue or something to help move something forward; a shorter reply to a longer reply is good; just as I tend to take a shorter thing and get longer with. This is also why I tend to like or mention with meme responses, like you can just reblog/save this and treat this as little one shot/drabble I wrote for you. I also tend to do the same.

BEST TIME TO WRITE : I don't get a lot of work, I am home all the time. So i'm bored a lot. So literally anytime, although I have a tendency to write a lot more late at night. For me, why I'm not writing is usually mood, or I don't have a very good set up for writing long haul; so if my neck, back, or hands and wrist start to cramp up cause my sit down to write isn't a good position/only position. That usually defeats me; like after I post this I will probably take a break, stretch, keep on my break and write a bit in a few hours.

ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S) : Yes and no / I don't know. I know I'm the type of neurospicy where Clint Barton has rotten my brain for like the past 15 years or something; and I've been writing him for like 10 years; that I'm probably funny like Clint is, but who actually knows lol. I try to be normal and healthy with muse and mun separation; even if his whole recovery arc is very important and real to me; and I will live in the delusion that is what I am getting from the comics as in I will just write it myself on my roleplay blog (this is a joke; legally I have to say that I think)

when did you join ? what made you join ? what do you remember from the plotlines that were current at the time ? where were you in life when you joined and where are you now ?

i joined september 2016 when this was vikrp! i was a junior in college and had been writing indie rp for a minute before that kinda died down, so i took a peek at the tags. vikrp/haisociety/highsociety had the pairs aspect to it back then, so i fulfilled someone's jade thirlwall wc but they went inactive like right after i was accepted asjdfka. i believe the revamp to haisociety happened in december/january, truly a time to be alive. i started as a junior back then and i'm ending as a junior in my second bachelor's degree💀, a homeowner, and within the next couple years, i'll be married and have a kid*. *tbd when we're both done with school and onto other careers

what is your favourite plotline that you've been part of ?

too many to choose from! tbh the aslan/layla/olivier triangle was fun just because of the silly ic drama it caused. i'm pretty sure it was during haisociety when i messaged e about layla/olivier, because layla has the "he helped me, i love him" mentality and we just went with it askdfa, not really planning anything or knowing what would come of it. also love the egypt plotline and anytime those siblings interacted. and the early days of barbie and layla's friendship, how barbie pretty much took layla under her wing and got her out of her shell.

what about other people's plotlines ?

definitely the chaos of england and the murder mystery event. if i remember any more i'll edit this jaksdf

who is your favourite character from the ones you've played ? why ? what made you love them ? what made them so fun to write ?

no surprise here but layla. in the early days, layla was meek to the point she hardly spoke, took everything literally, and asked too many questions. she developed her voice and learned to be a little selfish in the later years, but she's still a crier.

if you could relive a plotline, which would it be ?

the greek invasion. it might have been one of the most well-constructed events i have been a part of. i remember traveling during it and writing replies on my phone just so i didn't miss out. every character was affected one way or another, and that event was a turning point in layla's personality.

is there a plotline that you'd edit now if you could ?

i wouldn't necessarily say edit, but it'd be interesting to see how things would've panned out if layla kissed olivier back and still felt guilty enough to tell aslan.

what's a plotline you wish you would have been able to finish before closing or just write more of ?

egypt<3 getting to see amon's coronation and both of them trying to rectify the family's image. life got way too chaotic over the past year, but i love mine and lina's headcanons

what is your favourite ooc memory ?

late 2018, someone kept sending rude/hateful anons to muns and the main, and everyone banded together to keep hshq alive and well. i submitted a whole essay to the main with my comments not thinking the admins would actually post it and they DID, 2018 was an interesting time here. also in the early days when we started listing how all characters were connected and making full circles of connections, simpler times.

🏆 how long i've been roleplaying for?

i would roughly say 3-5 years with large gaps in-between because of my personal life. i was probably 16-17 when i first joined the RPC with my friends ♡

following but never interacting. i will never understand why i used to get followed only to be ignored for almost a month straight?? it's frustrating AF to deal with because i make an effort to communicate through liking their headcanons, sending a message, reblogging prompts for them to respond IC if they're not comfortable talking OOC and posting starters but all i get in return is radio silence. there's no point in following someone if they're never go to showcase their interest towards me.

people who follow me without reading my rules. it's the bare minimum. it's my only requirement. i can ALWAYS tell when somebody doesn't read them. the lack of respect is icky.

a villain is a villain. do not follow me if you cannot handle her rude comments or disturbing actions. please don't expect her to be nice just because your muse is 'special'. louise will not care...unless you're a monster, but that doesn't mean monsters are safe from her wrath if they end up provoking her.

when i see a RP blog with no tags. it's so difficult to navigate and find specific things like prompts/memes. i will not bother checking out a tagless account.

people who refuse to interact with OC's. why?? do people not know canon characters were someone else's OC?? the math ain't mathing!!

people who use AI to generate a reply or create meaningless artwork. i'm strictly anti-AI. i believe suffering for your art or writing is what makes it so... relatable to me. there has to be REAL tears of passion otherwise i'm not moved 😭😭

needing internet validation 24/7. it's SUPER exhausting telling someone they're good enough to write only for them to discard it. i know we all have our bad days but it gets to the point where it becomes overwhelming and sets off my anxiety.

DNI MINORS!! i am a GROWN adult. i wish more minors would actually hang out with their age group instead of trying to interact with me. i only interact with muns over 21+ for a reason!!

ymmm firstly what ive learned about writing is everyone has their own perception of characters so not all outcomes are gonna be the same, i naturally took one look at portia and thought:

yeah, there's bound to be some mischievous crack there, only because thats who i perceive portia to be.

when writing i have to consider the fact portia is a character with feelings and flaws so she's not going to take to everyone immediately. i took one look at lucio wnd went ; yes, hes a chaos gremlin

but portia, in my opinion, would try to reel anyone wanting to go near lucio back in because portia was different feelings about him, different morals, and her worries that she's set aside and experienced from her encounters with lucio (hold on! don't, don't go over there. you need to be careful around him, he's not to be taken lightly)

but tips on writing portia..

theres canon and fanon, it's nice to let your readers know every now and then which one you're leaning towards. here's a helpful guide of definitions defining both terms: what is canon and what is fanon?

references! references! references! it's hard to write a characters sometimes, for me at least, when there's little to no writing about that character because you have to figure out little specifics like how would muriel handle one of his chickens being mangled or what does nadia do when she tastes a dish she doesn't like? sometimes it's hard to tell by yourself so pick a few fics that you really like, reblog them, take notes on what characterizations you like or what sticks out to you most, having a reference lets you have base and a foundation to go off of.

alternatively; it's nice to have friends/responsive readers in the same fandom because you can read what they think portia might've/would do in the next chapter or what they thought portia would have done. ie, it's nice to have a place to start when you're writing characterizations about an unfamiliar character

hmm... practice. practice is good, take some prompts or talk to a friend, putting your characters in every day conflicts is a good way to start writing for them. you ripped your favorite shirt - does portia swear like a sailor or collapse to her knees with remorse if it happens or does she just fix it? no cereal left in your cupboards - does portia deflate or go get some? basically there's a lot of questions and as a writer, you get to determine your own answers for them because there's no writer pop up block thats going to say uh no, this character doesn't do that. thats bull and you're the one writing this character so go nuts.

if you genuinely don't know where to start on writing for a charcter, this works for me without fail:

1. read through writing prompts and rp prompts from a resource blog (type in rp prompts, you'll get tons), take note of prompts you like

2. revisit official content: reread that one book, go through your favorite arcana chapters, rewatch that tv show. ideas pop back up. you might lack the gas to write them but jot down the ideas. write them down bc i promise you'll forget all seven of them.

3. if you have your concept or idea, figure out the reason why your character is doing the things they're doing. is it for approval? is it because they want to hold their hand for a night so the other doesn't suspect them? add some stakes. figure out the ending. give your story conflict and make it stick.

writer's block. the enemy of the brain. a procrasinators best friend

alright look. everyone knows theres no upsie daisy out of it. if there is TELL ME. DM ME. COMMENT. PLS EVERYONS DESPERATE. but anyway the best way you can fight it, is to let it breathe.

if you're facing writers block then map out the plot. you need to know where you are and figure out where the story is supposed to be going. the story should have a checkpoint as to where it needs to be. get there.

is this more than one chapter?? figure out what goes in the chapter you're in, what happened in the previous one, okay, and now move on to the next one. you know what you already have, somethings not working between Point A and Point B, so just move on to a different part of the story.

it's not more than one chapter? same thing. you should reevaluate what's happened, where you are, and what needs to happen. throw something to move the story in the fray. maybe it won't make sense now, but you'll be able to write off of it and move forward. you can go back and change it later if you don't like it.

if you're stuck, the problem is probably ten lines back or so. i thought that was bs when i read it for the first time, but then i checked a story once and found a characters actions were holding up my progress, changed it, and moved forward.

the hardest method of all for me is the let it breathe method.

let your mind breathe and forget about the fic, move on to a different show and relax. your brain needs a break whether you believe me or feel like you need one. you need a break and your mind needs to breathe bc you're suffocating it with one subject. so change it. let your mind breathe and change the subject.

let the work breathe. you've been harassing the words. overediting, overthinking that one sentence, you don't know what it needs and you've reread it too many times. let it go, do something else, you can go back to it in a few days and you'll connect the pieces later.

let yourself breathe. this is honestly a little repetitive and ugh, disgusting 'i don't need to breathe'. babe, you're obsessed with a deadline in your head, the image of a final perfect draft, obsessed to get it done. you probably lost sight of the fact you should be writing for yourself. writing for yourself is supposed to be fun. you're not having fun, go somewhere else until you can properly allow your mind to connect theories and concepts together. you need to go have some me time and it needs to last more than twenty four hours or until you stop checking the clock to see if twenty four hours have gone by yet or actually until you stop checking the clock to see when you can get back to your work all together.

is it an external source hindering you from writing? is your support group not giving the right support or could it be that you're not receiving the feedback you need? make a bulleted list of points you need to figure out about your work and then rewrite that list as questions for a beta reader or yourself to answer.

whewww that's a lot of advice. ive been writing for a little bit, i started in middle school and im still reading tips on how to further my writing. i ask around and i look around, but theres no set bar for anything. writing is hard, writing fantic is hard, and dont even get me started on writers block. but if you need help, the answers are either out there at your fingertips or maybe your mind needs a break before you can unscramble them from in there.

Another post in a seemingly unending series of posts in which I talk about writing to make me feel like I've accomplished any actual writing. Results so far are middling.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Just Cirque du Soleil at the moment, but a long running rp is soaking up the majority of my creative thoughts just now. That's its own whole thing with a blog and fics and AUs upon AUs.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Wing Dust (Miraculous Ladybug, T, perpetually bemused that I wrote this in the first place and yet here it is at number one)

Downpour (Mad Max Fury Road, G, my first for a fandom that did so much for me as an author)

War Song (Mad Max Fury Road, T, strong contender for favorite fic I've ever written)

Idle in Neutral (Mad Max Fury Road, G, I forget I wrote this one all the time and whenever I get kudos for it I'm like whom??? I love that it has a life all its own.)

Mantle (Mad Max Fury Road, G, another one I continually forget about lol)

That's the curse of writing for tiny fandoms! The ones I have loved most, that have mangled my brain for months on end are destined to have like a dozen readers total. On the other hand it's very gratifying to know I'm writing for a small handful of people extra extra psyched to find content. And in the meantime I have these, many of which I've let myself forget, that have found their audience anyway. It's a very rewarding feeling, like I could make the effort, move on, and still leave people happy years later.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Most times yes!! And I'm so so lucky to get the most thoughtful comments of all on my most niche fics. Makes it all more than worth it.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Walkabout and I love it. Cirque du Soleil Kà, T.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Tea Series by a mile. Didn't know I had it in me until pushed by @studiokawaii , and I'm so glad they did. Cirque du Soleil Kà, T.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Honestly so few people are aware of them that it's not really a risk. What is hugely embarrassing is the confirmed knowledge that Cirque artists know about and have read some of them. But there's nothing I can do about that, lol.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes! Somehow I feel like I'm always writing it, and then I look at my total body of work and am like "...where is all of it." Historically it was mostly M/M, but Kà got me actually writing F/M for the first time. Most common themes are experience vs. inexperience and tense power dynamics. I'd love to write more dub con.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Only ever one. Decree, another for Mad Max Fury Road, in which the Vuvalini are each granted one single potentially worldshaping wish à la Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I know why people don't click on it, but I'm fond of it!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No and tbh I can't imagine anyone would bother.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No but I'd be open to it if anyone cared to take on the project! I love translated fics. What a nice thing to do, granting someone else's work the opportunity for new eyes.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, but again @studiokawaii and I have had some great fic/art collaboration in the past couple years with inspiration coming from both directions.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

Snape/Harry. I never talk about it, I've never written it myself (I think?? maybe in high school I did), but honestly it's been so long that I think there's no unseating it now. The amount of care, dedication, creativity, and talent coming from that group, even after so long, is truly unique and remarkable. All time favorite ship to write has been Counselor's Son/Twin Sister by a landslide.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

It pains me, but I think I'm kidding myself if I try to claim The Shape of Things To Come doesn't qualify. I love the idea, I know exactly where I want it to go, but something about the enormity of the ground that needs to be covered in order to get there has spooked me.

I also have two highly embarrassing WIPs - one for Shadow & Bone and another for fucking Teen Titans - that I doubt will ever be finished. I just adore both ideas and it's fun thinking they've at least taken some kind of shape somewhere, even if they never make it out into the world.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Creating believable characterization and distinctive voices from very sparse source material. At least that's what I've been told, which I take as an immense compliment. I also think I write tension rather well, whether it be sexual, conflicting emotions, or threatening hostility.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Well right now my ability to finish anything feels pretty fuckin weak. I struggle with action scenes, like physical fights or scenes in which a lot is going on in multiple places at once. Hitting a natural rhythm with them is very difficult for me. Pacing for longer fics doesn't come easily to me either, and I always worry if my longer work reads like a bulleted list of stuff I knew needed to happen rather than an actual story with a true and natural flow. That's part of what's bogging me down with Shape of Things.

I also love commas too much.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Depends. You can't just throw it in there imo - it's a great opportunity for mindful characterization and shouldn't be treated like checking a box, or worse, a reminder to your audience that the source material doesn't match the language you're writing in. I'm not multilingual so the most you're likely to see from me are vague hints at certain dialects and accents in Kà, for instance, since they're not speaking any real language anyway.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Teen Titans. It's still out there somewhere, likely a somewhat embarrassing blip on the radar of some long forgotten LJ community. I got some early encouragement there that put me where I am today. Nurture and welcome new writers, people!!

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Borderline Suspect. I put so much into it. It was a real milestone fic for me, unlike anything I'd ever written before, and it stands so apart in my memory that I just can't choose any other. At the time I thought it was everything I could possibly want to say about Ka and CS/TS, but when it was through I found myself more motivated and inspired than ever.

Some of the most valuable and rewarding feedback I've ever gotten came from this fic, and the intensity of the response, however contained by the size of the fandom, has made me feel incredibly lucky. People came out of nowhere to talk to me about it, send art for it, push me through writing lulls with comments that turned entire days around. I made new friends because of it. I don't see myself writing anything quite like it ever again. Even if I did, I couldn't dream of a more gratifying response. Cirque du Soleil Kà, E.

We all have those. We're nerds. We're on Tumblr, ffs.

I love tea. Yes I love coffee, too, but because of an rp character my name and personality has sort of become enmeshed with even just the notion of tea and all manner of tea paraphernalia. Teapots, tea cups, tea service, tea sets, tea, tea, tea, tea... *cue Monty Python singing the Spam song but it's tea*

I love photography. I'm a hobby photographer, and once I'm the hell out of Texas, I'll feel inspired to jump back into my photo game again.

I love cooking. What started out of spite because of my ex and a mutual friend telling me I'd starve to death without the ex to cook for me has turned into a creative outlet and passion. I know I cook more than my ex ever did, and with the exception of my picky, pissy SIL, most people love my cooking. So yay me.

I love animals, the beach (obviously - it's the place I most want to be), flowers, lots of different fandoms aside from Marvel (Hannibal, The Following, horror movies, Stephen King, period movies, literature, Shakespeare, Stranger Things, Peaky Blinders, Boardwalk Empire, ALL of the things that Mike Flanagan directs, BBC Sherlock, RDJ's Sherlock movies - the list is really kind of long, so I won't try to put everything down). I love pretty much all types of music (save Christian rock and quite a lot of pop singers, esp one particular one whose name I've had to filter out because so many of y'all love her).

I write fanfiction. I'm not a popular writer, but I'm damned good at what I do. For those who don't know, I'm Wolfsheart on AO3. I'm a huge sucker for kudos and comments. LOVE the comments, especially the positive ones. Hateful ones, not so much. I delete, block, and report people who send hateful shit. If you leave hateful shit without signing in, I'll report you as spam since AO3 hasn't provided a way to block and report 'guests'.

past admin here.. no longer running rps bc of the community. but i've ran a couple pretty big rps in the past couple years and i'll be honest, although i think it's slightly immature to close roleplays because of things people say on a gossip blog, i believe admins are just tired and most times the venting on blogs like this are just the cherry on top of everything they're already dealing with in the roleplay they are managing.

lets be real. admins are usually normal people just as you are, with jobs, possibly school, friends, and things to do outside of their rp life. most admins are also not full time HR reps or therapist. we are no better than you when it comes to finding out how to fix issues or resolve conflicts... member activity and facehogging has been an issue that not only i have seen in my rps but roleplays everywhere have and are currently experiencing. admins can only do SO much. they can't force activity without being called micromanagers and they cant change the activity requirements to be more engaging without being critizied about not being realistic for people with lives outside of rp.

theres issues regarding cliques. most times, the admins are so busy with admin shit that they don't see or notice the clique. from my past experiences as an admin, people would call anyone and anything a clique.

an example i used all the time .. because this is crazy... but back when i used to run a big rp. we got anon's complaining about a "🐻 squad" (changed the emoji for privacy reasons). when us as admins went in to look what that so called squad was, it was literally a member just referring to the people who emojied his post about playing a game later. we're adults, and it's embarrassing to see people talk as if they were excluses children when most of the time its a personal activity issue. if your muse isnt interacting with things on the feed, commenting on post, leaving emojis, talking in gc/ plotting with others, joining games/activities, or even doing events... theres obvious reasons why your muse feels left out. additionally, when a muse has a group of friends they have developed and feel close to, i personally see it as character development. these muses have spent enough time getting to know eachother to the point there they know they like to hangout and get along. as an admin, i've sent my muses to talk to the so called cliques that were in my roleplay to try and see how they would treat my muse and most times, the so called cliques were rather nice and inviting to my muse. making it rather hard to kick them.

we as admins can encourage but not force people out of their circles, we can not force people to answer dms, and we can not force people to write. the best we can do is attempt to remove them or close the roleplay completely.

when it comes to resolving conflicts, believe it or not its extremely hard for us. most times remember we are an outsider looking into the situation. and most times we are not given complete content. we unfortunately are reading screenshots without tone indicators or context. the best we can do is listen to both sides and hope we are making the best possible decision for the community. however. we can not remove muses from the rp because of a bad breakup or because they are upset with your muse. we can't kick people out because you both simply do not get along. the best we can do is ask that you both don't interact. i think the community has a hard time understanding this part. additionally, your issue with another member is not always highest priority for some admin teams, sometimes admin teams are talking for hours about how they want to handle a situation so expecting an immediate resolution to the situation or specific action in general is unrealistic.

adding to the unrealistic thing is expecting admins to be online 24/7. we need to sleep, eat, and do other things aside from just admining. we want to enjoy our muses as much as you guys do as well. we apologize if your cc request was not answered within 3-4 hours. remember admin teams will be online at some point in the day and often times will be in different timezones than your own. so be realistic and give admin teams 24-48 hours to respond to your message. admins are not slacking just because they want a moment to focus on themselves.

lastly, i realized rather quickly that this community does not like to follow or read rules almost at all. regardless of how we spin it 80% of the community skims through the rule page we work hard on creating to get the password for the application. how do i know yall dont read rules? because some of the shit being complained about on these blogs are things that have been blatantly stated in the rules that you guys have agreed to! dont join a roleplay if you dont agree with it's rules. simple. "admins are asking me to handle it myself." most rps open right now say in the rules that they will ask you to do that before coming to them. "this age gap rule is rediculous." most roleplays have these rules clear on their rule page. "well i didn't know you couldn't do that." yes you did, you agreed to the rules of the roleplay when you joined. don't act shocked or upset when we enforce the rules. and if you claim rules are hard to understand or need clarification, it takes nothing but 2 seconds to ask admins for clarification on a rule.

so yes, after dealing with these issues and more, seeing vent posts about our roleplays sometimes is the perfect cherry on top to call it a day and close the community. think of it as "why would we continue to put all this effort in if people are obviously unhappy with our work?". we work hard to manage things the best we can but we are only human and our judgements sometimes fail us. and getting critiqued is 100% okay but some of you guys on here write things so maliciously... i wonder if the admins had personally victimized you with the way yall write on here. rp is a hobby and at the end if the day if the honby is causing you more stress than happiness.. close/ leave your roleplay.

I have gotten a few of those over the past days, including when I wasn't even home for obvious reasons. Gotta say, awfully great timing (iykyk). I picked one to answer because I'm getting tired of those. So to the person/people sending me those, this is the only one, then I'm simply blocking and I will know who it is. You didn't think of that, did you? Anyhow, not my point.

I have had this blog for 10 years, I was there during the airing of the series, I was there when some hann.igram shippers went wild with hate towards characters, writers (RP and fanfic), and towards actors. It wasn't all the shippers, mind you, but enough to drive people away from the Han.nibal RP scene and to send actual hate to the actors so I will name the ship. The reason why I mention it is also that I got my own share of hate and comments from them and the sad thing is that nowadays I still see Bedelia hate in her tag. I won't go on a tangent here, but hate for her isn't new and it's still there without the need to send asks.

Now, I don't know if it's the case for you or not, but I honestly don't care. I have met some amazing shippers since then, so I couldn't care less what you ship. My issue here is that you think I care. Like yes, well done, you sent it when I was already feeling down. I don't know if it's on purpose, but until proven otherwise, I'm going to keep thinking it was. And yet, I still couldn't give a single unidentified flying fuck about your opinion on Bedelia. I have been here 10 years, TEN YEARS. I have seen so many things, received hate, gotten comments like yours before. Nothing new under the sun. At least people posting in her tag do it off anon, unlike you.

I'm not going to add more, just that the only thing you managed to do is make me sigh and roll my eyes. Things I do multiple times a day every day anyway. My followers may not be very happy with your comment, but that's your problem, not mine. You can dislike or even hate her all you want, that's your opinion, but don't send things like that to people writing her or liking her and don't post in her tag. You're only going to get blocked because most of us have gotten so used to it that we don't react anymore, we just click block.Tbh I post this so you get your answer, you can be happy, and then I'll block the other asks and I'll be happy.

So yes, I write Bedelia, I have for 10 years, and no, she didn't deserve what happened in the post-credits scene. Now fuck off.

i have to be a wee bit honest with you all, besties (personal - i'm okay! just some sappy things - content warning: loneliness)

i started writing fic officially last year in february. i didn't think it would become anything at all. my friends made fun of me for trying out reader insert fanfic for the first time, implying (and outright saying) that reader insert was childish, lower quality writing, but as someone who didn't really read much 2nd POV - i was curious. i wanted to try out the medium. it was a challenge. i tried telling my friends (online and irl) about it, but i got a lot of sneers because... well, it was reader insert. and not canon/canon, or original character/canon content.

i'd been toying with a mandalorian fanfic ever since the end of season two. i loved that show. i wanted to tell a story for myself, so i posted a few chapters over the weeks, thinking i'd abandon it and go back to reading fic... then met all of you. i started gathering followers, something i NEVER thought would happen, and from there mutuals. fellow writers were following me! i had never been so excited in my life!

but i'm going to be so honest: i am quite lonely. i've transitioned away from writing groups/dnd/rp to basically be a full-time fanfiction author, and i feel like i've lost all of my friends. most of them don't want to hear about it, so i don't hit them up anymore. i've had friends question why i don't hit them up, and when i explain that my entire life's kinda become "weight training and fanfic" the conversation stops.

add another layer of getting into anime, something NO ONE in my personal life cares about / thinks highly of, and i kind of only have this blog and my vision and writing and -- well, you all.

and you all are so amazing. my mutuals are so fun, and talented, and crazy smart people. i see their fics, and even if it isn't a fixation of mine, i root for them. then the people who have not only read one chapter of my fic, but multiple? or those who have checked out some of my other work? people who legit message me, send me anonymous questions, engage with what i love ---- i no longer feel so lonely. i stop wondering if i should hang up fanfic so i can gain my old social life back where i still talked to my online friends pre-fic blog often. i don't think 'maybe i'm stupid for doing this.'

i'm okay with being lonely and alone, honestly! i'm an only child lol i grew up with a single mom, my entire life was built on my imagination and the ability to be alone. but i just need every single one of you who have touched my work in some form or another -- just how important you are to me, and how grateful i am that you've not only read my works, but engaged, DM'd me about a thirst trap, anything!

it's very easy to forget there is a human behind the stories you like or reblog or comment on, but i hope you know that this human is just really happy that you've validated her greatest love: writing. and that i don't feel so lonely all the time when i'm chatting with you all, or responding to your infectious excitement. i'm just... i feel so content. and happy. and like i actually belong posting my stories, versus keeping them to myself on a word doc that will die within my external hard drive.
