Anime I Watched This Fall
My first semester of college is officially over and the December holidays are upon us! I hoped to make one of these posts sooner, but I have been incredibly busy with schoolwork. Now that things have slowed down, let’s take sometime to reflect on things I’ve watched.
These anime are listed in chronological order and encompass everything I’ve watched from 9/1/2020 - 12/15/2020
Like always, they will be rated on a 1-10 scale; 1 meaning complete garbage, 10 meaning masterpiece. I will offer my thoughts on what I did/didn’t like about each show!
1. The God of High School - 6/10
Tumblr media
Despite the stellar animation from MAPPA and my high expectations, I was really disappointed by how this series was treated. Most of the story’s crucial elements were handled poorly. I finished this series feeling more confused about the plot than when I first began. The power system is really cool, but poorly explained. More time should have been spent on exposition and world building for this series, instead the fights were given the most screen time.
2.  Doukyuusei - 7/10
Tumblr media
I really liked the style of Doukyuusei. Granted, this was another movie I chose to watch primarily because of the hype surrounding it. The dynamic between Kusakabe and Sajou is an interesting one, and I also enjoy how the movies different acts were separated by the seasons. However, there's nothing that really sets Doukyuusei apart from other romance movies, its a little generic. Still, I enjoyed it nonetheless.
3.  Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season - 8/10
Tumblr media
My opinions on Re:Zero’s second season are biased. This was, by far, the sequel I was most hyped for during the summer/fall anime season. I was so happy to see the story’s continuation and I’m looking forward to the season’s second part coming sometime in January. Re:Zero is one of my all time favorite series because of the way it handles it characters and power dynamics. I also really enjoy the show’s psychological aspects. If you haven’t already, give Re:Zero a try!
4. Saint☆Oniisan (Movie + OVA) - 8/10
Tumblr media
This was a wonderful comedy. I wasn’t sure how the subject of Jesus and Buddha living together would be tackled, but it was handled wonderfully. I was laughing for pretty much the entire movie. I love the art style and little references to both Buddhism and Christianity, plus the incorporation of Japanese culture. Saint Oniisan is a bright comedy, with two eccentric main characters. If you like a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and need a good laugh, I can’t recommend this more.
5. Clannad: After Story - 10/10
Tumblr media
Never, while watching anime, did I cry as much as I did while watching Clannad: After Story. I didn’t realize how much I related to Okazaki until I saw him grow up in After Story. I was left sobbing, especially after episode 18. I still, to this day, cannot listen to the Dango song without tearing up. The original Clannad is nothing special, but the continuation of its story its something heartfelt, emotional, and down-to-earth. I love Kyoto Animation with all my heart, and Clannad made me appreciate everything the studio has done just a little bit more. Thank you Clannad, for reminding me about the kind of person I strive to be.
6. Nakitai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu - 5.5/10
Tumblr media
The art in A Whisker Away was beautiful. The story itself, however, is nothing too enjoyable. I found it difficult to like our protagonist or her love interest. Nothing about this movie is inherently memorable. The emotional climax came far too early which made the second half of the film seem long and drawn out.  All in all, the movie has a wonderful concept, I just believe it could have been so much more emotional than it was. When I watch a move, I like to empathize with the characters. It’s difficult to do when the characters aren’t given the proper exposition to be empathized with.
7.  Shikioriori - 6/10
Tumblr media
This is less of a movie and more of a collection of short stories. Flavors of Youth is something you shouldn’t watch on an empty stomach, all of the food looks incredible. The same cannot beside for the rest of this feature. The stories themselves seems heavily clichéd. Much like A Whisker Away, the initial premise is intriguing, but the execution results in something that comes across as trying too hard and carries no emotional weight with the viewer. If you plan on watching, pay more attention to the artwork and animation than the actual plot. You won’t be missing anything.
8. Vinland Saga - 7/10
Tumblr media
Vinland Saga helped me get out of the rut that Clannad: After Story. Not only does this show have a great story, its action packed with lots of interesting fights. I especially enjoyed all the Nordic history embedded within the show. Its really unlike any of the other historical anime I’ve watched. I will say, it’s gory. But, compared to all the other things I watched this time around, I finished this series the quickest. Its good, its graphic, its fast paced!
9.  Mononoke Hime - 7/10
Tumblr media
It’s ironic considering how much anime I’ve watched that I have yet to watch all of the most classic Studio Ghibli films. Princess Mononoke is grittier than most other Ghibli films I’ve seen, but it’s message is positive and its characters are wonderful. I can’t really speak ill towards classics like these. I guess maybe my one complaint is that this movie could’ve been a faster pace. Other than that... I really enjoyed everything Princess Mononoke offered! I understand why it’s so popular.
10. Howl no Ugoku Shiro - 8.5/10
Tumblr media
Can you believe it took me this long to finally watch Howl’s Moving Castle? Me neither!! This movie is so endearingly beautiful. I loved every second of it, from the characters to the soundtrack. So many iconic things come from just this one movie. I would like to take this time to thank my best friend for reminding me that Studio Ghibli films are wonderful! Thank you for watching this with me, I loved it! All in all, I regret not watching this sooner!
11. Toradora! - 6.5/10
Tumblr media
Toradora took me a while to finish, just because I lost interest about halfway through. But, I powered through it, and ended up really enjoying the show! I’m not the biggest fan of the ending, but that’s just a personal preference. Somehow, this show also made me cry? I’m not entirely sure why because Toradora! is probably the thing farthest from sad. Apart from the show’s dull slice of life moments, it was super cute! A much needed light-hearted romance.
12. New Initial D Movie: Legend 1 - 5/10
Tumblr media
Full disclosure, this is the only thing related to Initial D that I’ve ever watched. My band and I watched this expecting to hear some of that iconic Initial D music, itself all we got was a mildly confusing story about different types of cars. It was cliché and frankly a little boring. Although, I am still considering watching the original Initial D just so I can hear the music in the way it was original intended. I’ve got no other opinions on this movie. It’s best not to watch these movies without the context from the rest of the franchise.
13.  Uchuu Patrol Luluco - 7.5/10
Tumblr media
I didn’t really understand why people enjoy studio Trigger so much until I watched Space Patrol Luluco. I loved all the fun references to other studio Trigger works. I loved the humor, and I loved all the bright colors. The animation was extremely high energy, and the art style fits the show’s premise. Each episode was only 12 minutes long so it was a super quick binge. If you’re looking for something quick, light-hearted and comical, this is the perfect show to watch.
14. Orange - 7/10
Tumblr media
I owe a big thanks to a tumblr mutual for recommending this show to me! This holds the honor of making me cry by episode 3! I honestly did not expect the subject matter of this show to be as dark as it was. Usually when I see the genre ‘shoujo’ I do not associate it with a love story like that of Orange. The heavy subject matter made it a little too close to home for me, but I still really enjoyed this series. It reminds me off all the good times I had with my friends in high school, and of all the regrets I carry with myself to this day.
15. 3-gatsu no Lion - 7.5/10
Tumblr media
March Comes in Like a Lion is another show that was a bit of a slow burn for me. Each episode left me feeling emotionally drained, so I had to take a lot of breaks while I was working on watching this series. Shaft, the studio behind this anime, holds a special place in my heart because I loved their work on the Monogatari Series. March Comes in Like a Lion is a little different. It’s driving force it is characters, and it was cathartic to watch our main character transform through the entire duration of the first season. I know the show’s second season is much better, so I’ll be starting that soon!
16. Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei - 8/10
Tumblr media
I loved how artsy and smart The Tatami Galaxy is, but honestly I couldn’t watch too much at once cause it would hurt my head. I also couldn’t watch this show while I was tired because the speaking rate is much faster than typical anime. The Tatami Galaxy is so unique for its medium. I loved the different time loops and the crazy animation. The characters were fascinating. The dialogue, although very fast, it also fantastic. There’s an element of humor to this unique story telling, and I enjoyed ever minute of it!
Currently Watching:
Hunter x Hunter - 6.5/10 (As of Episode 30)
Tumblr media
I pride myself in having watched a lot of shounen anime, but I was reluctant to start Hunter x Hunter for years because I thought I would find it boring. I was oh so very wrong. Considering great shows like Naruto and Fairy Tail that fall under the same category, I expected Hunter x Hunter to be subpar in comparison. It gets a low score for two reasons. One, the power system was introduced a little too late and now I’m wondering if all the fights post episode 30 will involved nen in some way, shape, or form. Two, its still on hiatus.
Two Cursed Additions For This List
Please to do not let these be representative of my anime taste.
1.  Yarichin☆B*tch-bu - 4/10
Tumblr media
I am a CLOWN for not knowing this was 18+. The only reason I watched this was to see why everyone was talking about the pink-haired boy with the glasses and tongue piecing. I know why now, and I regret it. This was a massive mistake on my part. But hey, at the least the art and ending song kinda slap?
2. Euphoria (Dropped After 1 Episode) - 2/10
Tumblr media
If you know what I’m talking about when I say Euphoria, I am so sorry. And no, I am not talking about the HBO series. Seriously, don’t google this. Don’t watch this. Don’t interact with anything related to this. You’re probably wondering, “Then why did you watch it?” I did not watch this willingly. You see, I have a very bad habit of starting anime and then taking months to finish them. I made an ultimatum with a friend, lost, and then was forced to watch this a punishment. Not a fun experience. I’m very glad there are no GIFs of this on tumblr...

Storm Flower
Fandom: Sanders Sides, medieval-ish au Pairing: Logan/Remus, everyone else is platonic Characters: Virgil, Patton, Roman, Logan, Remus, Deceit and Orange are mentioned Warnings: There is betrayal in this, check the end of the tags for who. Summary: When a magical illness overtakes the land, King Thomas calls a quest for the flower that will cure it. No one is expecting The Boy of Fear to show up.
Fear isn't expecting to enjoy the quest.
AO3
--
Rare was a True Mage, even in so grand a kingdom as that of King Thomas Sanders.  In fact, in all the land only six were known.  One barely.  But of the ones known, they were well known.
Some were known for the fear they encouraged:  The Unnamed One, who it's said can convince even the animals to do his bidding.  The Boy of Fear, whose tantrums brought dreadful and terrifying storms.  Remus of the Forest, who would bring about a most gruesome death on any who stumbled through his forest.
But then there were those mages known for their great deeds:  Lord Logan, the royal advisor who took council with the wind itself.  All have heard his tale - how he used the winds to bolt over the castle walls and warn the thing of a coming invasion.  Then there was Patton the Kind, a simple palace cook before he stepped in during rocky peace negotiations.  His powers to feel the earth have always helped him ground others, or so he says.  Last but never least was Sir Roman, a noble Knight and local heartthrob who controlled fire as effortlessly as he controlled his sword.
There were rumors that a seventh mage that roamed the lands, one more terrifying than the Unnamed, the Boy of Fear, and Remus combined.  None had ever seen traces of this rumored Mage, but that did not stop the people from whispering.
When an unknown illness began to sweep the lands - a fever so hot it seemed to boil people alive in no time at all - it was this rumoured mage that was first to be blamed.  Though King Thomas tried to subdue thoughts of a hidden Mage, he couldn't pretend the sickness wasn't magical in origin.  Especially not after Lord Logan suggest the calling of a Quest to stop it.
"We need to find a Storm Flower.  Specifically, a seven petaled Storm Flower."  He informed King Thomas.  "The winds have informed me that one resides on the Lost Isles.  Which I will be able to find with their guidance."
"Alright.”  King Thomas, who had long given up on Logan ever talking to him casually, nodded.  "I'll call a Quest at once."
"Why does the King insist on calling a Quest every time something happens?"  Roman huffed a few days later, impatiently watching the sun for the moment the calling would be over and the Quest could begin.  "Everyone knows we are the only ones that respond."
"That may be true," there was no 'may' about Patton's statement.  The last time a non-mage had responded to a Quest had been before the Mages had been found.  "But everyone deserves an equal chance to get involved.  We can't hog all the Kingdoms glory for ourselves.  That just wouldn't be very fair, now wouldn't?"
"Besides, it is important to respect tradition."  Logan added.
"So, is this the Quest meeting then or just a geek hang out?"
All three Mages turned at the unfamiliar voice to find a gothic young man smirking at them.  His almost-black hair covered one eye but the other was purple.  More importantly, it was glowing with magic.
"Who let you in here!?"  Roman demanded, sword already drawn and raised.  The Boy of Fear didn't seem bothered.
"The guards just had to let me through after l told them I was here for the Quest."  He said, still smirking.  For a moment the three mages were silent as they took the information in.
"He is correct," Logan eventually said.  "He has never technically committed a crime and so he has every right to join the Quest.  We can not deny him.
"Don't you just love technicalities?"  Fear grinned.
"No."  Roman huffed, putting his sword away but crossing his arms to keep showing his displeasure.
"You're here to help?"  Patton asked, looking unsure but not outright hostile.
"Why else would l be here?"  Fear shrugged.
"Why would you be here?"  Roman huffed.
"I must admit, I'm also curious as to your motives.”  Logan said.
"Do l have to have a motive to want to stop this?  Maybe I just don't want to catch this thing."  Fear answered.
"That is rather sound reasoning."  Logan accepted.
"Besides, l highly suspect you'll need help with that boat."  Fear added.
"But I thought you made storms?  Won't that make sailing harder?"  Patton questioned, tone surprising polite.
"I can do a lot more than make storms."  Fear said.  He held out his hands and the mages watched their surroundings as his eyes glowed brighter.  It didn't take long to spot the way the well water was hovering three feet above the well.
"Cool!"  Patton breathed as Fear let the water drop into the well once more, not a single drop missing it's mark.
"That settles that then."  Logan decided.  Despite Romans grumbling, when the sun marked the tenth hour, Fear left with them.  Although he did not tell them his name.
- - -
The boat was a decent size, small enough for four mages to run it alone but large enough to be comfortable.  Large enough they didn’t have to interact out side of necessity.  And for the first week of their travel, that’s what Fear did.  He keep to himself and keep out of the way, only talking with Logan when a course correction was needed or the seas seemed to be getting too frisky.  Logan was unbothered by this arrangement and Roman seemed to prefer it but Patton…
Well, it just seemed wrong to him.
Sure, everyone said Fear was this horrifying mage that didn’t care about others but Patton just couldn’t believe that.  Over the past week Fear hadn’t done anything mean, let alone evil.  And besides, how bad could he really be?  He was helping them after all.
If anything, Patton thought the mage seemed… lonely.  And Patton just wasn’t going to stand for that.
Thankfully, though the boat was big enough to give everyone space, it wasn’t big enough for anyone to hide.  Which made it easy for Patton to find Fear laying on the crows nest in the middle of the night.
“Hey kiddo!”  He greeted, grinning and trying not to laugh when Fear startled.  It was funny but that’d be rude.
“Uh, did you need something?”  Fear asked, quickly recovering and pulling himself into a sitting position.
“Nope!”  Patton said.  “I was just wondering if you wanted a midnight snack?”
“Uh, what?”  Fear frowned, confused even after Patton showed off the cookies he’d hidden behind his back.  “How… how do you have cookies?”
“Well, a quest just isn’t a quest without freshly baked cookies.”  Patton claimed, pulling himself onto the crows nest proper and placing the cookies between them.
“But, we’re on a boat?”  Fear questioned further.
“Well, I am still the royal chef.  It’s not the first time I’ve had to make cookies on a boat.”  Patton explained.  “King Thomas likes his cookies.  Try one!”
“Right, um, thanks?”  Fear said.
“The first cookie of friendship.”  Patton whispered as Fear took his first bite, almost making the mage choke as he laughed in surprise.
Little did Patton know how right he was.
--
With Patton dragging him by the arm, Fear’s time alone dropped dramaticly.  As much as Fear grumbled it was, admittedly, nice.  Logan and he had fun debates and conversations, no longer just discussing the tides and the quickest way to the island.  Patton insisted he joined ‘family game nights’ and even let him help with the cooking.  Even Roman seemed to warm up to him, although to a considerably lesser extent.
Fear wasn’t really sure what to do with all this sudden kindness.
When he’d joined the quest he’d been prepared to keep his word and then disappear back into the shadows.  Now he wasn’t… now he wasn’t so sure.
“Are you alright?”  Roman asked.  He’d taken the spot to Fear’s left, although Fear couldn’t figure out when he’d gotten there.  “You look darker and stormer than usual.”
“I’m fine.”  Fear claimed.
“You aren’t losing your nerve, are you?”  Roman questioned.
“Of course not.”  Fear said, shouting the fire mage a glare.  “I’m not like that.”
“Alright then.”  Roman accepted, shrugging.  “Captain Nerd says we should all get some rest, we’ll reach the island tomorrow.”
“Night then.”  Fear said, leaving the boats side and the swirling waters behind.  He wasn’t losing his nerve.
--
The boat was large enough for everyone to have their own space, their campsites were not.  It was in their best interests to keep their presence small, or so said Logan.  Two tents and a campfire, occasionally with a third location for keeping watch.  Usually this lack of personal space would leave Fear itching and the clouds above him stormy.
Sitting with the mages, Fear found he actually liked it.
“You are exgradating.”  Logan huffed, his cheeks a little flush while he tried desperately to keep his composure.  “It was not this dramatic.”
“Oh it was incredibly dramatic.”  Roman grinned.  “You should have seen the King’s face Fear, he was so confused.”
“And Logan just keep talking!”  Patton added.  “King Thomas had to clear his throat to get his attention so he could point it out.”
“Royal Advisor Logan, we can’t give the Queen an inifinestal amount of support.  That would be an insult.”  Roman said, giving his best King Thomas impression.  Logan’s cheeks got darker.
“It was a simple mistake.”  He muttered.
“Doesn’t the wind tell you everything?  Why didn’t it warn you?”  Fear asked, fighting back his own laughter.
“The wind is a rather personal element.”  Logan huffed.  “It likes to laugh.  Especially at me.”
“Which often means a random breeze knocking a basket onto his head.”  Patton explained.
“You certainly never help by putting baskets all over the castle.”  Logan complained.
“I don’t do that, you can’t prove it.”  Patton claimed.  Considering the grin on his face, Fear wasn’t inclined to believe him.
“I’ve seen you do it.”  Logan argued.
“I think the entire castle has seen you do it.”  Roman added.
“And the wind just knocks those over for you?”  Fear asked.  “I thought you were an Earth mage.”
“It’s not magic.  Patton and the wind are rather alike, they seem to get on despite literally being incapable of talking.”  Logan explained.
“I wish I got along with the wind.  Maybe then it would stop messing with my hair.”  Roman pouted.
“The earth is nothing like the wind.  It’s much more grounding and serious.”  Patton said, pulling a serious face that looked anything but.  “It’s actually a lot like you, Logan.”
“My fire is exactly like me.  Incredibly passionate and enchanting.”  Roman claimed.
“And destructive.”  Fear said, getting a ‘hey!’ and a friendly shove in response.  “I don’t think the water and I are alike.  The water’s a lot calmer than I am.”
“Your storms are anything but calm.”  Roman argued.
“Storms are different.”  Fear shrugged.  “And those are accidental.”  He admitted, more quiet.
“Accidental?”  Logan asked.  “That’s odd.  I don’t think I’ve used my magic accidentally.”
“I have.”  Patton said.  “Sometimes it’s just instinct and emotion, you know?”  Fear and Roman both nodded but Logan couldn’t seem to relate.
“Fascinating.”  He decided.  “I have never had the wind react to my emotions.  We will have to discuss this at a later date so I can collect accurate data.”
“Nerd.”  Roman said, only half hidden in coughs.
“Precise and well-studied are better labels.”  Logan claimed, though he seemed rather unbothered by the teasing.  He was likely used to it.
The group of them talked for a little longer before Patton stood with a yawn.
“I think it’s bedtime.”  He decided.  “Who’s taking first watch?”
“I will.”  Fear offered.  “I’m not tired.”
“Alright.”  Logan stood as well.  “I will take the second watch.”
“I suppose I will take the last watch, the sunrise is good for skin complexion.”  Roman decided.
“Sounds like I have the third watch then.”  Patton nodded.
“I will time my watch to ensure you get the most efficient sleep.”  Logan assured.
“Aw, Lo.”  Patton grinned.  He yawned again then moved around the group, giving each of the mages a tight hug and a personal goodnight, like he always did.  Rather than use the nickname Fear had gained, Patton just called him kiddo.
“Goodnight.  Sleep well.”  Logan said, after enduring the hug.
“Pleasant dreams.”  Roman said, waving.  Patton gave yet another goodnight before heading towards his tent.  Watching them, Fear felt anxiety bubbling in his chest.  Was he really… sure he wasn’t actually considering this… but then they had been so nice and didn’t they deserve to know?
Clearing his throat, Fear didn’t look up to see if they’d noticed.
“Virgil.”  He said.  At Patton’s ‘huh’, Virgil did look up.  All three had turned back to look at him, with Patton and Roman looking notably confused.  Oh geez.  Why did he think this was a good idea?  “My uh, my name.  It’s Virgil.”  He managed after a moment, eyes darting around.  Virgil waited anxiously for their response, not quite sure what to expect but not expecting anything good.
Patton broke the silence by squealing.
“I love it!!”  He announced, running back to hug Virgil again.
“It’s not that big a deal Patton.”  Virgil claimed, rolling his eyes fondly and hugging back.
“It clearly is.”  Logan said, fixing his glasses.  “Thank you for trusting us with your name, Virgil.”
“I must admit I’m rather surprised.”  Roman said.  “But, it is nice to meet you Virgil.”
“Now, we really must be heading to bed.”  Logan pointed out.
“Right, right.  I’m just so happy to finally know your name!”  Patton said, still grinning.
“You’ll still know it tomorrow.”  Virgil pointed out, smiling back.
“I will!”  Patton agreed.
“Of course?”  Logan whispered to himself, confused.  “Was that in doubt?”
“Goodnight Virgil!”  Patton said, finally letting the water mage.
“Goodnight Patton.”
--
Two weeks since Virgil stepped into the royal courtyard, they find it.
“Could nature be more dramatic?”  Virgil asked as they stepped into the colouring.  The Storm Flower, with it’s seven petals all in different colours, was in the exact center of the clearing.  It rested atop a small hill, rays of the setting sun falling across it artfully.  There’s even a lake nearby with a small water, giving the clearing a calming soundtrack.
This was definitely a magical flower, Virgil decided, only a magical flower would be ridiculous.
“Is there only one?”  Patton asked, starting towards the flower.
“We will only need the one.”  Logan assured, following Patton.  Likely to ensure he didn’t pick the flower it the wrong way.  “The illness is a magical curse, likely placed on an item special to the King or the Kingdom.  When we get home we’ll find the item, and then create a tea using the Storm Flower.  Once the item has been soaked in the tea, the curse will be broken.”
“Alright then!”  Roman grinned.
Virgil was expecting it, waiting for it.
He still almost missed it.
Roman’s hand twitched out the corner of his eye and Virgil grabbed for the lake.  The fire whirling ahead sizzled as it met a wall of water.
“What was that?”  Logan asked, turning at the noise.  “Steam?”  He added, confused when he spotted the cloud resting there.
“Are you two fighting?”  Patton asked, frowning and putting his hands on his hips.
“I think we might just be.”  Roman said, eyes narrowed as Virgil stepped between him and the others.  “Breaking your word there Virgil?  I thought you were better than that.”
“You broke yours first.””  Virgil claimed.  “Just walk away.”
“What are you two talking about?”  Patton asked.
“Don’t worry about it padre, I’m sure even you’ll figure it out in a moment.”  Roman assured.  Virgil tensed when the mage’s fingers twitched but he no fire came.
And then he felt heat and a rush of wind on his back.
Looking over, he found Logan fixing up his clothes.  “I see.”  He said.  “Although I can’t say I understand.”
“Of course you can’t.”  Roman spat.  He gave up on subtly then.  He called fire to both his arms and blasted it at them.  Virgil called on the lake but knew there wasn’t enough water to block it.  Thankfully, the earth that rose was more than enough to shield them.
“Roman?”  Patton whispered, staring at the dirt.
“We need to go.”  Virgil said.  “Right now.”
“What?  No, no we need to help him!   Something has to have happened to him!”  Patton argued.
“Nothing’s happened to me.”  Roman huffed.  He stood atop the dirt pile, having used his fire to jump to the top.  “Not like you two.  No, you’ve saved the kingdom.  Everyone sings ballads of you.  I am down being a side character!”  He called fire to rain down on them but Virgil jumped out of the way, taking Patton with him.  The earth mage was too shellshocked to respond, not like Logan.
“I see.”  The wind mage said.  “You believe you have not achieved a grand enough fet, and so you plan to return alone with the Storm Flower to get sole credit.  Likely, you also found a way to create the illness.”
“What gave you that impression genius?”  Roman asked, rolling his eyes and jumping back to the ground.
“Well it is a fever based illness, and many have described the illness as being alike to burning alive.  In retrospect, it makes the most amount of sense for it to be you.”  Logan explained.
“I was being sarcastic four eyes!”  Roman snapped.
“Oh, I see.”
“Less exposition, more running away!”  Virgil shouted, grabbing Logan and Patton’s wrists and running towards the forest.  Get stressed, he ordered himself and then almost laughed.  He was already well stressed.  That’s not what called the clouds.  Think of something else.
“Running away again Virgil?  I should have known you’d chicken out.”  Roman mocked.  Ah, yeah, think of that.  Virgil let go of Logan’s wrist to flip off Roman while above him the clouds gathered.
“This can’t be right.”  Patton mumbled, stumbling as they ran.  The downpour began in earnest behind them.
“You think a little rain is going to stop me?”  Roman called away them.  He was chasing them, footsteps heavy against the forest floor.
“Patton, I need you to make it muddy behind us.  And Logan I need you to push the rain Roman’s way.”  Virgil ordered.
“Excellent plan.”  Logan agreed.  Virgil couldn’t feel the wind but he could feel the rain as it focused on Roman, making it hard for him too see and impossible for a fire to catch.
“Patton, mud!”
“But this isn’t, this can’t be happening.”  Patton mumbled.
“Just do it!”  Virgil tried.
“Patton, worry about that later.  Right now we have to focus on getting away.”  Logan said, tone much calmer than Virgils.  After a moment Patton hesitantly nodded.
“Alright.”  He said, sounding a little more sure as he pulled out of Virgil’s grip.  “Follow me, I can find us a cave.”
--
They made it safely to the cave, no hint of Roman following behind them.  Patton closed the entrance behind them, leaving only a sliver of an entrance to allow air and moonlight in.  They couldn’t risk starting a fire.
“I believe we are safe.”  Logan announced after about ten minutes.
“For now.”  Virgil agreed.
“I believe you owe us an explanation.”  Logan’s words made Virgil tense.  “It appears to me you knew what Roman was planning.”
“Surely he wasn’t planning it.”  Patton argued.  “He can’t have, something just… something happened!  He’s being controlled or manipulated or,” Virgil cut him off before he could continue.
“Roman’s been planning this for months.”  He admitted.
“What?”  Patton whispered, falling back into the cave wall and falling slowly to the ground.  “That’s not…”
“I’m sorry Patton.”  Virgil said.
“But Roman cares so much about the kingdom!”  Patton argued.  “He’s our friend!”
“That’s not what he told us.”  Virgil mumbled.
“Us?”  Logan asked, raising an eyebrow.  With a sigh, Virgil sat as well.
“You know that Roman and Remus are twins, right?”  He asked.
“The forest mage?”  Patton clarified.
“Of course.  Roman disowned him when Remus joined the Unnamed One.”  Logan recalled.
“That’s not entirely true.”  Virgil said.  “I’m not really sure how to explain this.”  He added, running a hand through his hair.  They were silent a moment then Patton took a steadying breath and sat up a little straighter.
“Start from the beginning.”  He said.  “As far back as you need to go.  I want to understand.”  Hesitating only a moment, Virgil nodded.
“When my powers first came in I couldn’t control them.  I made a lot of damage, my parents kicked me out.”  He admitted, rushing through it and ignoring Patton’s noise of distress.  He tried to say something else but nothing came out, with an annoyed expression he tried again.  “Orange, the seventh mage, found me.  He took me in and D- uh, the Unnamed One.  He raised us, more or less.  Told us that the kingdom hated mages, that the King used them for soldiers and any that weren’t loyal to him were killed.”
“But that’s not true.”  Logan frowned.  “King Thomas is incredibly welcoming of mages.”
“Yeah, well, we didn’t know that.”  Virgil shrugged.  “And the childhood we had, we believed it.  Then…”  He paused again.  “Then Roman and Remus showed up.  Said they were runaways.”
“Roman too?”  Patton asked, frowning deeper when Virgil nodded.
“Orange took them in and Roman confirmed everything he said.  Going on about how the kingdom was horrible to mages.  After a while Orange started talking about… changing things.  Taking over, making the kingdom a better place.  Roman was… he was really into it.  He went back to be a man on the inside, I guess.”
“That must have been when he returned from ‘searching for Remus’.”  Logan pieced together.
“Whenever he got back he and Orange would get worse.  They just kept going on about how horrible the kingdom was, and how the King would kill us and every magic user if he got the chance.”
“Thomas would never!”  Patton shouted.
“Roman was very convincing.”  Virgil sighed.  “More convincing than Orange.  I never really wanted to do Orange’s take over the world thing, but Roman… he made it sound like his life in the kingdom was so horrible.  That the both of you were horrible.  So, when he said he had a plan to make everything better…”  Virgil trailed off.
“The illness.”  Logan guessed.
“You were planning on…?”  Patton didn’t finish the sentence.
“I didn’t know the specifics.”  Virgil claimed.  “I just knew he’d call a quest and I had to be there to help, or be the scapegoat I guess.”
“When did you decided to betray him?”  Logan asked.  Virgil couldn’t help but wince at the choose of words.
“When Patton gave me cookies, I guess.”  Virgil said.  “At first I thought maybe you were just acting, that any second you’d turn into the cold hearted monsters Roman described but it didn’t take long to realize you weren’t.  I mean, no one can be that earnest, right?”
“He said we were monsters?”  Patton repeated, looking heartbroken.
“Yeah, he uh… he had some pretty extreme stories.”  Virgil admitted.  “I’m sorry.  I never should have agreed.”
“Ultimately I’m glad you were there.”  Logan said.  “I never suspected a thing.  Roman could easily have killed us there and no one would ever figure it out.”
“Do you really think he could have done that?”  Patton asked.
“After today, yes.  I do.”  Logan said.  “And since we don’t seem to know him at all, Virgil what do you think he’ll do now?”
“Well, he’ll want to get rid of us.  But if he can’t find us he might try to get to the kingdom first.  He could leave us stranded or, if that doesn’t work, he’ll still have enough time to make up a story that’ll make it seem like we’re in the wrong.”  Virgil guessed.
“I see.  Then it’s likely in our best interest to ensure Roman does not leave the forest.”  Logan decided.
“How are we meant to do that?”  Patton asked.  For a moment it seemed none of them had any ideas, then Virgil jumped up.
“Remus.”  He said.  “Patton, open the cave.”
“What?”  Patton frowned.
“What are you planning?”  Logan asked.
“Remus might help us.  He can keep Roman trapped in the forest easily.”  Virgil explained.
“Remus?”  Patton frowned.  “Is he on our side?”
“He’s on his own side.”  Virgil said, shaking his head.  “But he loves messing with Roman.”
“But I thought he was a criminal.”  Patton said.
“Not technically.”  Logan said.  “Reports about his murders are greatly exaggerated, mostly he just gets people lost or helps them get away.  The few deaths I’ve been able to confirm as his have been condemned or would-be-condemned criminals.  Which, under some rather old laws, is technically legal.”
“I didn’t know you knew so much about Remus.”  Patton frowned.  “Has everyone been lying to me?”
“It’s not like that.”  Logan tried to assure.  “I just wasn’t sure how to bring it up.  I’m still not sure it’s a good idea to ask his help.”
“I think it might be our only idea.”  Virgil argued.  “Patton?”
“...Alright.”  Patton accepted.  With a heavy movement of his hands, the cave unsealed.  Virgil stepped out and immediately began knocking on a tree.
“Remus!”  He shouted for the man a few times, occasionally changing the tree he was banging on.  Patton and Logan watched, both confused..  “Come out already.”  Virgil eventually growled.
“I’m gay.”  A man announced, stepping out from behind a tree.  The man was the spitting image of Roman, except for the part where he was a mess.  Covered in mud, with leaves in his hair, and… was that moss growing on his legs?
“How did you do that?”  Patton frowned.
“Oh, you have friends!”  Remus grinned as he spotted the two.  “I’m so proud of you Virgil.  You even meet the cute one!”
“Hello Remus.”  Logan nodded.  “I wasn’t aware you could teleport.”
“Only in a very specific way.”  Remus claimed.  “We can get real deep into it later.”  He added, winking.
“Orange is going to be real pissed if he hears you were flirting with a kingdom mage.”  Virgil commented, shaking his head in shook.  Remus wasn’t a subtle person, how had none of them noticed this?
“He’s going to be all the more pissed when he hears you betrayed Roman.”  Remus countered.  “Finally stepping out of your comfort storm.  Very impressive.  Although possibly deadly, I can feel Roman burning trees from here.”
“He’s close?!”  Patton asked, panicked.
“I didn’t say that.”  Remus assured.  “I did say he’ll burn you to a crisp when he finds you though!  Wait, did I say that?  I meant to.”  Patton whimpered, whether from fear or heartbreak Virgil wasn’t sure.  Maybe it was both.
“We were actually hoping for your help with that.”  Virgil said.  “Roman can’t exactly burn us alive if he’s trapped in the forest and we aren’t, right?”
“You want me to betray Orange and my brother like that?”  Remus gasped.
“Please?”  Virgil tried.
“Hmmm, only if Logan asks.”  Remus decided, turning to the wind mage in question.
“Remus.”  Logan said, rolling his eyes.
“Oh I’m teasing.”  Remus assured, clicking his fingers.  “I’ll do it.  Do put in a good word for me when you get home, will you?  Oh and remember my parents face when they find out I was the not-evil twin.  I want to hear every detail.”
“Wait, we can’t leave yet.”  Patton said suddenly.  “The flower!”
“My flowers are solely for Logan these days, sorry.”  Remus said.
“No, the Storm Flower.”  Logan recalled as well.  “We can’t fix the curse if we don’t get it.”
“Roman will kill us if we stick around.”  Virgil argued.
“You can leave if you’d like Virgil, but plenty more people will die if we don’t get that flower.”  Logan argued.
“Well, he’s got you there.”  Remus hummed, leaning on Virgil’s shoulder right until the other mage shoved him off.
“How are we meant to get it?  There was only one and Roman probably grabbed it!”  Virgil pointed out.
“If he did we’ll… we’ll have to take it off him.  However we can.”  Patton decided, voice growing from a mumble.
“Patton, are you sure?”  Logan checked, concerned for his friend.
“The Roman I knew was a lie.  This person… he, he hurts people.  We have to stop him.”  Patton confirmed, nodding.
“Oh what an adventure!”  Remus grinned.  “I should have brought treats.”
“This is a suicide quest.”  Virgil muttered.
“There’s no shame if you don’t want to come Virgil.”  Patton assured.  “Thank you for your help already.”
“No, no.  I’m coming.”  Virgil sighed.  “I’d feel guilty if I didn’t.”
“Then it’s settled, in the morning we’ll all go after Roman.  For now I suggest we sleep.  If we’re lucky, Roman will spend all night searching and be worn out when we find him.”  Logan said.
“Sleepover!”  Remus cheered.  He was about the only one that felt like cheering as they walked back into the cave.  There was an unease in the stomach of the other mages, even Logan who tried to appear calm as they settled in.
Tomorrow they would need to fight a friend, there was no way to feel good about that.

Chess [27] - {ShikaTema AU}
I have no excuses, but hopefully my rustiness and likely mistakes in this can be forgiven. All my love: enjoy :)
[READ ON AO3]
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
“You’ve gotta have an oral fixation.”
“Chōji…”
“But really. You have to. I look away for one minute and you’ve stolen a straw from behind the bar and you’re chewing on it!”
Temari tried to hold back a giggle, and upon failing set off Chōji. He started to go red as he snorted.
“I just wanted a straw.” There was an innocent, yet far too defensive tone to his voice.
Eyebrows were raised around them, not least by the barman. “But not to drink with?”
Shikamaru frowned, as though he genuinely didn’t understand. “What’s the matter with that?”
“We don’t give them out for people to chew on, mate.”
“Then don’t bloody make them out of paper!”
Temari took a sip on the straw, poked innocently into her cocktail, which had caused such an unexpected fuss and watched as Shikamaru chewed on his lip as his best friend nattered away. Suddenly he reached across the bar and snatched the straw from Shikamaru’s grip, earning an exasperated sigh from him, and an undeniable giggle from Temari.
Like the drive they had taken, their walk to the pub had been fairly short and sweet, but seemingly uneventful. The slight spots of rain that came with January weren’t exactly welcome, but they were easily ignored when he was beside her, hand in pockets and puffing out smoke like a bloody train. While she scurried along, wrapped in her hood and desperate to keep warm, she almost asked him for a drag once or twice, but there was something about the serenity of the silence between them—hearing only the spots of rain and tyres hitting puddles periodically—that was too pure to be broken. He had looked happy, despite it all; happier than he had ever looked.
Enjoy the silence, she had told him, and she had to listen to herself.
Still, that didn’t mean when his knuckles brushed against hers she didn’t let out a soft breath and bite her tongue when wanting it to last forever.
Upon getting to the pub amongst the hustle and bustle of a rough Saturday night, Shikamaru had made a beeline for Chōji the minute he’d locked eyes on him. Temari has pottered over at half the speed, but ever since they had been perched on the same bar stools with her fingers always wrapped around a drink—or at this current time, a pitcher.
Once or twice Chōji would shoot Temari a knowing look, always accompanied by a smile. She hoped that what she was seeing was gratitude, for being there for his friend and seemingly helping him. From her impression of the man she assumed negative emotions didn’t exactly come easy to Chōji, and she’d smile back within a second, hoping she was right.
Meanwhile, as one of these looks took place once more, Chōji running his mouth off at Shikamaru for was reaching for a second straw, their common interest was growing restless. He could see the looks his friends shared; he wasn’t stupid and he also wasn’t blind. Their lack of subtlety would’ve been funny if it weren’t laced with unwanted pity disguised as amity, and the water in his hand was growing tiresome after the third glass.
He wanted a drink—a proper drink. Not to drown sorrows or to pretend everything was okay, but just to join in. The smile on Temari’s face was so wide, so beautiful, and as her lips wrapped around that straw he wanted nothing less than to taste what she did, whatever concoction sat in her pitcher. He couldn’t help watching as she took another long sip, watching Chōji try to stack twelve glasses with little success, and wishing that he could just pull her face towards him, closer and closer; so close no space was left between them...
No, he was wrong. He didn’t want alcohol. He wanted her.
With that realisation came the familiar feeling of burning red ears, and he prayed the others wouldn’t notice his embarrassment amidst the dim lights. With a smile he look down at his water and sloshed it around in his glass, remembering the feeling of holding her hand earlier on. He thought of the rain that still pelted down outside, and how bundled up she’d been like a khaki Michelin Man, kicking leaves with her boots. Suddenly all he could see in the water was her face, smiling at him as the rain drenched the front of her hair, blonde bleeding into brown with wet.
“Chōji?” Temari asked, finally speaking. “Can you just give him another straw please before he tops himself?”
Shikamaru smiled. Insensitive, he thought, why the fuck am I not angry with her for that?
“No, he can’t. I have a right to refuse service.”
Her eyes rolled, letting her palm rest on his kneecap. “Service of drinks, yes. Does it really need to apply to straws?”
“You bet it does if I want it to,” be laughed. “I refuse to sell Shikamaru anything but soft drinks—always—on principle. And after last time I told the other staff not to as well.”
“Because you’re a pain,” interjected Shikamaru, raising his water in
“And,” he continued, “he won’t go to another pub because he only comes out to hang out with me, so no point. Thank me later.”
Temari shook her head, shifting her eyes to lock with Shikamaru’s. Her fingertips crept above his knee. “That’s no cure for alcoholism,” she chuckled, “but you’re a good friend.”
Chōji smirked. “Speaking of being a good friend, Shikamaru…”
He didn’t look to his friend, he was far too distracted by her eyes, and how they somehow looked violet in this light.
“Shikamaru?”
There was no chance his eyes could be torn from the woman before him as hers fingers danced up his thigh, a million different colours flickering across her under the lights and her pupils getting larger by the second.
“Shikamaru, do you want a smoke?”
If he didn’t stop her soon he was going to have to drag her elsewhere, but it was so hard not to be utterly captivated. She was too beautiful, too full of excitement from her pitchers, for him not to savour the way she looked at him. He felt like the only person in the room.
His weakness prevailed. “Nah, I’m good man.”
Chōji was getting desperate, and with a huff pulled out a straw from behind the bar. Thrusting it into Shikamaru’s hand, he tapped on the bar with rough knuckles and coughed. “I need a word, man. Come on?”
With an awkward cough and a guilty feeling building in the pit of his stomach, Shikamaru squeezed Temari’s fingers gently and lifted them up as he pulled his gaze away from her. He hopped down off of the stool and followed Chōji as he weaved through the crowds toward the door, somewhat glad to have been drawn away from her. After all the last thing he wanted to do was take advantage of her, and he was almost grateful to the freezing rain as he stepped outside, waking him up and reminding him it wasn’t his job to yearn for Temari every second of the day—not that that was stopping him.
Shikamaru’s thoughts, however, were unknown to the woman they’d left behind, and she couldn’t help feeling abandoned as they scurried outside into the cold. She almost texted Gaara and explained what was happening, but he was on a date, wasn’t he? She couldn’t interrupt that, it wouldn’t be fair. Not after all the stick she’d given him as a teenager for getting involved in her business all the time. Now it felt wrong not to involve him in everything, and tipsy Temari even thought for a second that she should ring him after all, and invite him and his date here.
But who was she kidding? That was a terrible idea. She could just about see her reflection in the mirror behind the spirits as she looked over the bar, and immediately decided that this pitcher would be her last one. Tonight was not to be the second night she was helped home by Shikamaru in a drunken state. Tonight would be the night she kept her cool, wasn’t eating pasta out of a saucepan at midnight and might even pay for his taxi back home. However, it had crossed her mind as she stared herself out that given her free house that was currently empty of brothers, he needn’t call a cab, or at least not one from here. He could come to hers, shelter from the rain for a while if he wanted to, for as long as he wanted to…
Oh, honestly, girl! Pull yourself together! She took a deep breath and shut her eyes. Send him home. You can do without another evening overcomplicating everything.
But despite her inner pep-talk, when Chōji re-entered seconds later without Shikamaru in tow, Temari’s fuzzy brain barely held in a whimper. But, as he jogged towards her with such intention in his eyes, she couldn’t help frowning and adjusted her position on the stool. “Is everything alright?”
“More than alright.” He came to a stop just in front of her and leaned against the bar. “He’s better than I’ve seen him in years, Temari,” he added with a soft smile.
She started to blush ever so slightly, but she could see the slight frown on his face. “Whats wrong then”
Chōji coughed, biting on his lip. “You did do it, didn’t you?”
Her eyes widened and her cheeks grew crimson in a flash. “Do it? Do what?”
“You know,” he chuckled awkwardly.
“I can guarantee I don’t.” Temari tucked a stray hair behind her ear and took a shaky breath. He cannot be talking about Thursday, she told herself. Shikamaru would never have told him, would he? “What did I do?”
“You took him to see Mrs Sarutobi, didn’t you?”
Only some of the nerves subsided, but she felt her shoulders loosen as she nodded. “We did,” she sighed. “It didn’t go too badly, but still can’t tell if it was actually the right thing to do, Chōji.”
“Thank you,” Chōji mumbled before pulling Temari into the tightest, quickest hug she’d ever had. “You’re good for him. Have another pitcher on me.”
And before Temari could reply, or thank him for his generosity in supplying alcohol she didn’t need, he was flying out the door and she watched it close with a soft thud.
~~~
When Chōji flung open the door and hopped back outside, a big grin across his face, an unimpressed Shikamaru who was now soaked to the bone was already half-way through his cigarette. He raised his eyebrows as a hello and huffed.
“I thought you were getting me my coat, man.”
His friend smirked and shook his head. “You don’t need it. We won’t be out here much longer.”
“I’m already soaking, Choji.”
“You wear t-shirts in December, Captain Hypothermia. You can live with some rain,” Choji spluttered, crossing his arms and bouncing slightly on the spot. He had to admit that it definitely wasn’t warm out here, but there were bigger issues at hand.
Shikamaru took a long drag of his cigarette as a piece of wet hair smacked him in the eye, he winced as he let out the smoke and rubbed the eye in question. “What do you want to talk about then?”
There was a moment silence, and Shikamaru knew the smirk building on Choji’s lips did not bode well.
“So you’re together now, right?”
He scoffed and shook his head, hooking his thumb inside the cuff of his sleeve. “C’mon, man…”
“You’ve shagged. Obviously.”
If he hadn’t been expecting it, Shikamaru would’ve most certainly choked on thin air. His eyes rolled to the back of his head. “Chōji…”
“That’s an answer, for sure.”
He let his foot tap at a particularly interesting brick on the wall, unable to look his friend in the eye. “We aren’t together, okay?”
“But you have shagged. Definitely.”
“Can you stop?” When he looked up, Choji looked proud beyond belief. It was as if he thought this was his doing that Shikamaru had found someone of the opposite sex who he didn’t find totally unbearable more than fifty-percent of the time. “What’re you so pleased with yourself about, eh?”
The bigger man shrugged, smug as anything. “Nothing, really,” he mused, with the most irritating snigger at the back of his throat. “Just that my pal has found the future mother of his children.”
Now Shikamaru was choking, and kicked the wall just a little too hard. “Fuck!” he hissed. “I’ve known her like a month, man—get a grip!” He took another drag and bit the bullet, leaning against the freezing cold brickwork. “You’re more invested in this than I am.”
“I wouldn’t let her hear you say that. Won’t be getting anymore, will you?”
“How do you even know about that?” He was finding it progressively harder to keep his tone one he’d want to hear if the tables were turned, but his friend was driving him nuts. “Did she tell you?”
“As good as,” Choji laughed. “I asked her if you guys had gone and done it and she went bright red.”
Shikamaru almost snarled, unable to comprehend what he was hearing. “What planet are you from, man? How’s that even slightly acceptable to—”
“Relax!” He hurried closer and put his hand on his friend’s shoulder. “I meant if you’d gone to Mrs Sarutobi’s today, not anything more. I’m not an animal.”
I beg to differ, the dark-haired man thought to himself. He looked up and raised his eyebrows. The temptation to put out his cigarette on Choji’s stupid apron was overwhelming but he managed not to, and simply took one last drag and let it fall to the floor, drowned by rain. “You knew about that, then?” he asked, barely getting the words out.
Choji nodded slowly and pulled his friend in for a hug. “She mentioned it before and I knew it would help.”
“You thought so?”
“Of course, and I was right.”
Shikamaru let his right arm encircle his friend’s larger frame and tapped him on the back. “She helps me, for sure. More than anyone ever has.”
“I can see that for myself,” he said with a smile as he pulled away. “I’m glad it went okay.”
“Me, too, man,” nodded Shikamaru, leaning back against the wall. “But can I ask you a favour?”
“Shoot.”
“I beg you to stop being weird about her.”
Choji looked affronted. “I’m not weird!”
“Going on about…you know…”
“Someone’s embarrassed.”
“Yeah, actually,” Shikamaru sighed. “I am embarrassed, really fucking embarrassed that I just stormed into her office and did that.” He kicked at the brick again. “I’m not like that, man, I don’t do that. And if that’s who she thinks I am now, I’ve fucked it.”
There was a moment where Shikamaru wondered if he’d split the conversation apart, to a point where Choji felt too awkward to put the pieces back together for him. He squeezed his eyes shut and rubbed them, as if by magic he thought that upon opening everything it would make what he’d just said disappear, and the sad atmosphere he’d created just float away.  However, it seemed that Shikamaru had forgotten his friend’s ability to make everything that was awkward for someone else feel like a breeze, and when Choji wrapped his arm around his shoulders, there was a jolt through them. He was waiting for his friend to say something equally as inappropriate as he previously had been as he stared down at his feet.
But he didn’t.
“Chin up, mate,” he said softly, nudging Shikamaru. “She went with you today and sat there, listened to you, helped you out…you think that if you’ve fucked it she’d do that?”
While he felt a little better, it didn’t fill the entire hole he’d dug himself. “I mean I’m not spontaneous like that, never have been and I never will be. I can’t be bothered, can I? I’d rather just sit on my own and—”
“But you were,” interjected Choji. “You were spontaneous. So yes you are.”
Shikamaru slowly nodded. “You’re wrong, but thank you.”
“No worries, man.” He slapped Shikamaru’s back and followed him back to the door. “SO did you shag in her office.”
“Say ‘shag’ one more time and I’ll push you in the road.”
“Table? Chair?”
“Choji?”
He stopped, scratching at the light brown stubble on his chin humorously. “Bet it was the chair.”
Shikamaru shoved him sideways, shaking his head as he sighed and said with great pleasure, though you wouldn’t know it from his monotone voice, “Table.”
He regretted not waiting to see Choji’s dumbfounded expression before heading back inside, and catching her eyes once more.
~~~
By the time another hour had disappeared so had many people and another pitcher, but as Temari gathered her things to leave she felt surprisingly sober. Not as sober as Shikamaru clearly was, however, and as his lips parted slightly as he laughed at Chōji’s poor choice of jokes, his eyes rolled to the back of his head for the same split second. Temari couldn’t stop staring. She hopped to her feet and threw on her coat, forcing her arms in and zipping up quickly. For a moment she’d contemplated offering him her coat given how he was still sopping wet from his last cigarette break, but she knew he wouldn’t take her up on the offer. After all, he had a coat, waterproof or not, and it wasn’t like him to see her go without anything.
She watched as he chewed on the end of yet another paper straw, something she’d never have expected from him, and when he turned to look at her, a kindhearted yet utterly devilish look in his eyes, she wanted nothing less than to steal him away.
Then he winked, and the deal was sealed.
“Is there any chance you could walk me home?” she asked, feebly interrupting the two of them. Where her spunk had gone she had no idea—never had she asked such a question and felt so vulnerable in doing so. It felt foreign and weird, she hated it and adored it all at once. “I’d go by myself, but if Gaara finds out I’m on my own…”
Shikamaru didn’t need asking twice. With his straw poking out the corner of his mouth he hopped to his feet, towering over her, and threw his coat on with much more ease than she had. “’Course,” he smiled, and tucked in his barstool. “I’ll probably be back in a minute, Choj, don’t worry.”
“You will?”
He looked down at Temari, who he couldn’t help noticing looked a little taken aback, and immediately retracted his statement as he fell deep into those eyes once more. “Actually…” he began. They were completely natural now in this light; that perfect blue-green hue he’d grown to know. “I’ll let you know. The old man might want me back.”
Choji chucked and threw his tea-towel at his friends head, only to get it thrown straight back. “Yeah, right. Be careful, you two.”
They walked out on him chuckling, Shikamaru tagging slightly behind as he raised a finger to Choji in protest, and one final snort emanated from the bar as the door shut behind them.
The rain had eased up again, back to a miserable and endless dribble, but a few stars were managing to peep through the mostly block cloud, and so Temari tried to focus on those. She felt a shiver run across her shoulders as she examined the combination in the sky, wondering if maybe what she was seeing was a familiar constellation. It wasn’t.
“I had a really nice evening,” she told him as they turned the corner onto her never-ending street, slightly saddened by the knowledge it never seemed long enough anymore. “It was fun.”
Shikamaru’s warm smile made it feel like the rain was a hot morning shower. “Don’t thank me, love. It was Chōj who gave you free drinks.”
She barged him with her shoulder and wobbled herself, but he steadied her before she could hit the floor with a full toothy grin, which wasn’t something she often saw. Her cheeks flushed hot as she whispered a soft, “Thank you,” and they only grew warmer as he rolled his eyes. “So,” he began, “what happened to you being able to make it home by yourself? To Kankuro seeing and you being able to take care of yourself?”
Temari took a deep breath and let it out as a massive, solemn sigh. “Nobody’s inside. And besides, Kankuro and I aren’t exactly friendly at the moment.”
He cocked his head to one side and looked up at the pavement ahead. “Not because of me, I hope,” he mumbled.
“Oh, it’s entirely because of you, Shikamaru,” she sighed. “Everything’s about you now.”
“What?” he chuckled. “What does that mean?”
She ignored him, barely even hearing him over her own thoughts. “But it’s a Kankuro problem, not a me problem or a you problem. He can keep being a baby if he wants, I don’t actually give a shit anymore.”
“Tem…”
Her eyes drifted up to his as their feet came to a halt outside her house. “What?” she asked, frowning. “‘Tem’, what?”
“He’s your brother.”
“As is Gaara, and he’s not treating me like a child. I’m older than both of them.”
The petty sibling problems were too much for Shikamaru, so he threw his head back with a despairing laugh and shook his head. “You, woman,” he said, “are an utter nightmare.”
Temari pouted cheekily and took his hands in hers as she leant against the wall outside her house, apparently much to his surprise. She squeezed them once and bit down on her lip. “Nobody’s home,” she muttered. “You can come in if you want.”
“Tem…” He looked down at their hands and ran his thumbs across her knuckles. “It’s late and you’ve had a lot to drink. I wouldn’t feel right us going in and—”
“That’s not what I meant!” she spat out, grumbling. “I mean…it was, but it doesn’t have to be. We can just chat, as if we don’t do enough of that already.”
He let go of her hands, rubbed the back of his neck and took a deep breath, remembering his complaints to Chōji. Now, maybe, he could be spontaneous. “Go on then, love,” he smiled, unable to deny the look in her eyes. “Lead the way.”
And she did, happily, forcing herself not to skip up to her door and unlock it. She couldn’t help turning to see the look on his face as she eased it open. “I warn you, we have lots of stairs.”
“I can manage, woman, I’m not ninety.”
She laughed and stepped inside, for once glad for the fact that Gaara had left the heating on whilst he was out. The warmth hit her instantly, and she kicked off her boots to the side of the little entranceway. Temari watched as Shikamaru pointed awkwardly to his own with a questionable look, and she nodded. She didn’t particularly care about wet footprints on the carpet, but it was clear in her head that she had to keep his presence on the down-low. Even Gaara would likely be unhappy with this development, after all.
She passed the door to the room on the right that belonged to Kankuro with great pace—fighting the want to kick the damn thing down—and started to climb the stairs up to the living room, and hung her coat over the back of one of the chairs at the table. “I know it’s weirdly laid out,” she sighed, “but it’s home.”
Shikamaru, now at the top of the stairs, leant against the threshold. “It’s not weird. It’s like Ino’s place.”
The fact that she was mad at him for mentioning Ino only cemented her anger with Kankuro, putting stupid ideas in her head for her jealousy to feed on. Without thinking she opened one of her cupboards and pulled out a half full bottle of red wine that she was certain belonged to Gaara and raised it towards the man before her. “Drink?”
“Temari,” he sighed, “I’ve exclusively drank water tonight. You think I want wine?”
For a moment she felt foolish, and incredibly guilty for offering him something that she knew that she shouldn’t, but it didn’t stop her getting out a shot glass with a smirk and pouring some into it. It looked ridiculous, especially when she poured herself a normally sized glass, but she held the tiny portion to him with raised eyebrows and couldn’t help saying, “Not even a tiny bit.”
Shikamaru shook his head, chuckling at the shot glass and sighed. “Nah, I’m good. You wouldn’t like me when I’ve had a drink.”
“Hadn’t you had one when I followed you into the loo that time?”
“Two,” he grimaced, “but it had almost worn off by then.” He wasn’t lying.
“One won’t hurt.” She knelt down and started rummaging through the same cupboard the wine had been produced from. “I must have some whiskey somewhere.”
“You’re baiting me, Temari.”
“I have whiskey.”
He knew she was being friendly, being flirty, and he knew this wasn’t a ploy to get him into bed or anything. But he couldn’t forget the shame in Choji’s eyes last time he’d ordered whiskey, and the feeling of disgust that came with the false high he eventually felt.
Temari put it down on the kitchen side and shotted the stupid portion of wine. She rinsed the glass out and held it up to him. She looked so beautiful, and so full of genuine acceptance. She’d never judged how skinny he was or mentioned the little white flecks up his arms and across his hands, she just looked him dead in the eyes with pure feeling, and he knew she just wanted him to join her in her high.
Thing was, he already had it by just being here, and it crossed his mind that he hadn’t drunk anything whilst genuinely happy before. It had always been to create happiness, not to accentuate it, and while he knew it was nonsense and it was fake, he wanted it. Now was his chance to join in. He wanted to try it, and there was nobody he’d feel more safe trying it with.
Slowly, he closed his eyes and nodding, shuffling closer to her. “Just one.”
Temari smiled slightly and poured two. “I hate whiskey,” she mumbled, “but for you I’ll give it a shot.”
“Bad pun.”
“Fuck you.”
He smiled. “You’re a terrible influence.”
“Only every once in a while.” She winked at him as she handed him the glass. “To new beginnings.”
Shikamaru raised his tiny glass and necked it with ease, instantly regretting the feeling of warmth that was building in his throat. “I shouldn’t have done that.”
Temari bit down on her lip and followed suit, screwing her nose up.
“Still hate it?”
“Oh, course. It’s the worst.”
With a sigh, he took a step back towards the door. “Maybe I should go.”
“Please don’t.”
“I can’t sit and drink with you.”
“I don’t need you to,” she whined. “I just don’t want you to leave me yet.”
Shikamaru felt his shoulders tense up, and his eyes started to burn. He was tired, but no amount of tired was more overpowering than seeing the red that was starting to creep into her waterline as it grew wet.
“I made you do something horrible today,” she sighed, collapsing onto the nearest chair. “You thought we’d go somewhere good and I put you through it. You didn’t deserve that.”
I did, he thought to himself, taking a step closer to her. “You’re trying to make it up to me?”
She nodded, rubbing her eyes.
“You don’t have to do that, love. Today was helpful, and it was good for me.”
“But I do have to.” She sniffed, looking up at him with big eyes. “You’ve done this thing I can’t explain, Shikamaru, where you’ve made me feel like it’s my job to take care of you.”
He gulped. “I’m sorry.”
“No, no. It’s not your fault. I phrased that wrong.” Sniff. “I feel so much fuller when I see you laugh, like I’ve done something good. You’re not my little project anymore or anything like that, you’re just so important. And when you leave, especially with that sad face you’re doing right now, I just feel like shit.”
Placing his hand on her knee, Shikamaru knelt down and tried his best to smile at her. She peered through her hands at him, and he swore he saw a flicker of a grin spreading to her eyes. Did he really have the power to do this? He who was so afraid of talking to people, who had felt like such a moron when he’d apologised the other day, who’d never felt so drawn to anyone or anything in his life…
It was torture, seeing her with what resembled tears in her eyes; this scary, forceful woman with the will of an ox. She’d dragged him back and forth with that strength more than she realised, and jumbled his thoughts on more than a few occasions. But now, on this crazy day, as he looked at her, everything seemed to fall into place.
He remembered what she’d said soon after they’d met—how she wasn’t going to fix him, but she was going to re-wire him to the best of her ability. It hadn’t made sense to him at the time how someone could do that for a person, but the look in her eyes right now allowed him to feel all the jumbled wires in his brain—his whole body—uncrossing. It made sense now. Yes, he knew that they couldn’t be together—they shouldn’t given how he was, that he still wasn’t okay. He needed to accept himself, he knew that, and although he was one step closer thanks to today, it was the beginning of a long road ahead.
But she’d be there for him, the face she was pulling now told him that without a shadow of a doubt. So he had to do the same. For whatever reason she wanted him to stay, and while he had the chance, he had to. It didn’t feel like choice, more a service, a necessity. A thank you amongst other things.
“Hey,” he whispered, letting his hand gently caress her knee. “One more drink. Then you can decide if I’m actually worth all this bloody hassle, right?”
Temari wiped her eyes and laughed, nodding. “You better be.”
Shikamaru nodded, feeling himself smile the biggest smile he had in a long time. “I better be…”
It was then, without any warning, that her eyes softened once more and her hands flew to his cheeks, still frozen from the bitter cold outside. She crashed her lips into his, and Shikamaru could do nothing but let them, obliging and giving into the power he loved so much.
He stopped momentarily, letting his thoughts fill him as she kissed along his jaw. Don’t use that word, he told himself. You barely know what it means.
“Shikamaru?”
Her voice was weak, and within a second of hearing it he was back in the room, his lips on hers as his hands resting on her hips. He felt her forehead rest on his, and he took a deep breath as they split apart. “I’m not going anywhere,” he mumbled before feeling her arms engulf him in the biggest hug.
He’d never felt so wanted, so needed, and he never wanted this feeling to go away.

Love Rekindled Chapter 2
The moon was high in the cloudless night sky as I stood on the street corner to make a couple of bucks. The events that led me here were to be expected though. My mother had died when I was young. As I grew older, my father tried to make me into what he thought was a “proper young man”. He assumed I would chase the girls around just because I had a large group of girl friends in high school. Though when I had turned 15, he found out I was gay and when I turned 16, he kicked me out of the house. So here I was, a year later dressed in booty shorts and fishnets with a tank top to match. I wore my signature converse sneakers. Little did I know however, this would be the night that changed my life in so many ways.
Things weren’t going as well as I had hoped. Despite being dressed the way I was, I was only getting females interested in me for the night and I would have to politely decline their offers no matter how much they offered. It would only be a disappointment to them when I couldn’t perform the way they would want me to. At this point, I was starting to get tired of standing there and was about to give up when a man spoke from behind me.
“How much ya charge?” He asked, standing much closer than I had anticipated him to be.
I jumped a bit, not having heard him come up. Turning around, I faced him and felt myself become lost for words. He was gorgeous. Black hair tied up into a ponytail, an eyepatch covering his left eye and some dress shoes with a bit of metal on the tip of them. He was an absolute stud.
It took me a moment to reply to his question.
“Well… For head ¥3,000 and anal is ¥5,000.” I replied trying to keep my cool.
I’ve never seen a man as attractive as he was. The smirk he gave me made my heart flutter in my chest.
“What about an all-nighter?” He asked stepping closer to me and pressing his body against my own.
I swallowed and bit my lip. That was an absolute first for me and had no idea what to tell him in this situation.
“I-I’ve never had anyone ask me about that before.” I stammered, shocked that he would even want to spend a whole night with me
He chuckled and stroked my cheek with his thumb. His touch went straight to my crotch.
“Then how about we figure out the price when the mornin’ comes? You can make it whatever you want with how satisfied you are with my performance.” He replied wrapping an arm around waist and started walking us towards a hotel.
The way he made it sound was that he was the one selling himself for a bit of cash, but I knew that wasn’t the case at all considering he was the one to pick me up. Wouldn’t it be based off of my performance? I decided not to ask since I didn’t want to scare away the only man who seemed interested in me at the moment.
It took us around ten minutes to reach the hotel from where we were standing on the corner. The walk there and to our room was relatively silent but I wanted to know what his name was. I didn’t want to just call him dude or sir the whole time.
“Soooo…. What’s your name stranger?” I asked hoping to get an answer out of him.
“Majima. Goro Majima. And what about you?” He replied glancing at me.
“Goro huh? Guess I’ll call you Majima-san then. Sounds better. Levi Shishiro at your service.” I answered, liking the way his last name sounded.
After introducing ourselves, we fell into silence once more and stayed that way until we were behind closed doors. He wasted no time in getting me onto the bed. He took his suit jacket off and then the shirt he wore under it before he worked on my clothes. My shirt came off first.                For the first time since I started doing this, I felt shy and wanted to cover myself from his gaze.                “Beautiful.” He said breathlessly and dipped his head down to lick and kiss at my neck.
I gasped and moaned softly letting me head tilt back giving him more of my neck. He seemed to approve of this action when he started to bite and mark my neck.
“W-Wait! If you mark me like this, no one will want to pay for my services!” I managed to say though it didn’t come out near as intimidating as I was wanting it to.
Majima chuckled and pulled back looking down at me with an almost predatory look in his eye. It made me shiver and I could feel myself becoming more aroused by the second.
“Maybe that’s what I want. Maybe I want you all to myself.” He purred dipping back down to continue he marking of my neck.
My hands gripped the sheets on the bed. I wanted to touch him more than anything but my experience with touching another man when he hadn’t told me to didn’t go too well but I couldn’t help it any longer. I needed to touch him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him closer. My body felt like it was burning. My fingers on one hand tangled into his ponytail and I let my other hand feel around his chest and well-toned abs causing him to shiver.
The feelings coursing through my body had never happened with any other men. Why was it that he made me feel this way? I was craving more. I wanted more. I needed more.
“I… I can’t take it anymore. I need you.” I whimpered, shocked I had even said that.
My confession earned me another chuckle and he pulled back from my neck. I immediately missed the feeling of him kissing on me and wanted more. I was harder than a rock. Harder than I had ever been with any other man and I wanted release.
“My, my. So eager. Though I must admit that I haven’t done this in a while. I’m probably harder than you. I guess we could skip the foreplay this time. Though, I might hurt you.” He replied and undid his belt looking down at me with a slight amount of concern.
I shook my head and helped him with his lower half of clothing. Once his belt was undone, he quickly undid his pants and hastily discarded them with his boxers. He tossed them somewhere in the room. I kept my eyes on his face as he started working on my shorts and fishnets. I wore nothing under the shorts so once those were removed, I was completely naked under him. I didn’t want to know how big he was. Not yet.
“I didn’t think you could get any more attractive. I was wrong.” Majima said softly and used his hand with some saliva to lube himself up.
I closed my eyes, heart pounding. This would be the moment I found out how big he was just from feel. I felt him line up and when he started to push into me, my eyes shot open wide and lips parted with a silent gasp of pain. My nails dug into his back causing him to suck in a breath. I wasn’t sure if he enjoyed it or if it legitimately hurt him. I was going through a bit of pain myself from him going in with no prep. I couldn’t blame him since I had basically told him to go without the prep.
“F-Fuck! How big are you?” I gasped out wondering how much more needed to fit and if it would even all fit inside of me.
I got another chuckle as he brushed some of my hair out of my face. I could see sleeping with him over and over if he was always this gentle and caring.
“Well last time I knew I was around 14 inches in length and about 3 thick. Judging from your reaction, I’m the biggest you’ve had.” He replied continuing to gently push into me.
Not only was he the biggest I’ve ever had, he was also the quickest man to ever get inside of me. Most of the clients I got wanted it to last for as long as possible. They would take unnecessarily long to undress me and themselves and the foreplay always last for about an hour before they were even ready to fuck. He was different.
It hurt to suddenly have a massive rod pushing into me without the foreplay but at the same time, it felt so good being so stretched and full. Once he was fully inside, he stayed still to let me adjust and I could tell that he was struggling to keep himself still from the way his arms trembled. I did my best to relax and allow him to move. It seemed to take forever before I was able to adjust and gave him the ok. Almost instantly, he pulled out and thrust back in causing me to moan out and wrap my legs around his waist. I moaned out louder than I had ever done before. It surprised both of us and I blushed deeply covering my mouth with my hand, turning my head away from him. Why had I moaned like that? That’s never happened before. I had always let out fake moans and to me they sounded fake but to other people, it must’ve sounded real enough because they never asked me about it. But this one was much, much different.
“Seems like someone is already enjoying themselves, Though I can’t deny that you feel incredible wrapped so tightly around my cock.” He murmured against my ear and pulled my hand from my mouth, pinning both of my hands above my head with one of his.
He gripped my hip and used the leverage to move me with him. Every time he pulled out, he would pull out to the tip of his cock and then thrust all the way back into me. Long drawn out moans filled the room and bounced off the walls. I didn’t care if anyone heard us. It felt too good to keep quiet.
There were so many firsts happening tonight in a span of just a few hours. His touch sent me into a frenzy, I wanted this to last for as long as it could. I wanted to kiss him.                His thrusts picked up speed causing the headboard of the bed to hit the wall gently and he seemed to have read my mind. His head bent down and he kissed me. Deeply. His lips were soft and plump. I eagerly returned his kiss.
As we kissed, he wrapped his free hand around my throbbing cock causing me to gasp and moan out into his waiting mouth. As soon as my lips parted, he slid his tongue into my mouth and played with mine. We battled for dominance and he won without too much trouble. With his victory, he began thrusting faster and harder, the headboard now banging loudly off the wall. My back arched and I balled my hands tightly, my nails digging into my palms. My moans were muffled by his lips and I could feel my orgasm quickly approaching. Majima seemed to have sensed this, probably from me tightening around his cock and the way my cock throbbed in his hand and began to jerk my cock in time with his thrusts. My body began to tremble and when he felt I wasn’t getting closer he angled his thrusts. He soon found what he was looking for the moment I threw my head back and cried out. I was ready to fall over the edge.
“Call my name. Cry it out with everything you have as you cum. Let the whole place know how you feel. If you’re a good boy, I’ll fill you with my cum. “Majima growled, the lust in his voice making me shiver.
I couldn’t hold it back any longer. I cried out as loud as I could, his name echoing loudly off the walls with the pleasure I felt. My semen covered my stomach and his. Just as he promised, he buried his cock as deep as he could and came inside of me. He pumped his hips with each spurt of his cum until he couldn’t cum anymore. I moaned and shivered from the feeling and laid there under him panting heavily.
He pulled out of me and used a tissue nearby to clean us up then flopped down on the other side of the bed panting just as heavily as I was. I rolled over onto to my stomach and rested my head on the pillow. I decided to get a good look at him just on the off chance I never got to see him again. The thought of that made me sad but I pushed the feeling away. I’ll deal with that later.
I started down at his cock and no surprise there. He looked as big as he felt. Moving up, his stomach was nicely toned with sculpted abs. His chest was also well defined with his pecs. What caught my attention the most, however, was the large tattoo that covered his pecs and seemed to go onto his back. The left snake had it’s mouth open and was pure white with yellow eyes. The other snake was similar only the positioning was slightly different and it’s mouth was closed with it’s tongue sticking out. Black and white clouds surrounded both of them. Red flowers with green leaves and yellow centers were dotted about pulling the whole tattoo together on the front.
Finally, I came to his clean-shaven face. He had a nicely defined jaw line and his cheeks seem to but sunken in a little bit. I hadn’t realized he was watching me until I glanced up and his brown eye met with my green ones. I blinked and blush a deep shade of red. He shifted, laying so he was facing me completely.
“Like what ya see? You must if you did a full body sweep like that.” He teased, lightly rubbing my back as I tried to fight my blush down. It seemed to only get worse.
I rolled my eyes and tried to play it off cool.
“I just figured I’d take a good look at ya while I could.” I replied, trying to sound as uninterested and bored as possible.
He merely smirked and raised an eyebrow at my answer, letting me know he didn’t believe me at all.
“If yer really that unimpressed and disappointed in me I can go.” Majima taunted sitting up and sitting on the edge or the bed, getting ready to get up.
Without thinking, I flung myself around him, wrapping my arms tightly around his waist and preventing him from leaving. Upon realizing what I had done, I quickly let him go and turned away from him. That probably didn’t do anything in my favor. If anything he was going to pay me less for that. I heard him chuckle and shift. He grabbed me and pulled me back down into a laying position. My back was pressed against his chest as he held me.
“Before you go apologizin’ on me, I want ya to know that you did nothin’ wrong. I wanted to see how you would react. Good to know you didn’t want me to leave. Cause I want to spend more time with you too.” He said softly placing a soft kiss on my head.
I blinked. This wasn’t actually happening was it? There’s no way this stranger wanted to spend extra time with me. This was just a one-time thing and then he would pay me, and we would go our separate ways. At least, that’s what I was telling myself.
“You’re spacing out on me.” Majima’s voice floated into my thoughts bringing me back to the present situation.
“Sorry. I tend to do that. Don’t take it personally.” I replied and curled up trying to scoot away from him. He only tightened his grip on me.
After tonight, I wouldn’t feel these things for a man I didn’t know. It was just another job that was done. This was the only time I was going to see him and that would be that. I felt him press closer to my back and I tried to keep my breathing steady.
“Somethin’s bothering you. I can tell. What’s wrong?” Majima asked, the concern evident in his voice.
“And here I thought I kept my emotions in check this whole time. Don’t worry about it Majima-chan. You don’t have to worry about me.” I replied, thankful that my voice stayed strong.
I figured the conversation was over since he wasn’t saying anything. That thought lasted all but two second when he flipped me over onto my back and pinned me down. He stared intently at me and I felt my breath hitch in my throat. No matter how many times I looked at him, I couldn’t get over just how attractive he was.
“Please talk to me Levi.” Majima said softly, voice pleading.
The tone of his voice and the look on his face made me want to tell him right there. I could tell he really wanted me to talk to him about it. I almost broke right there and spilled my gut out to him.
“Trust me. It’s not that important. Especially since we probably won’t see each other after this. There really is no point in talking to you about it. It seems almost pointless if we aren’t going to meet up again.” I replied and forced myself to looked away from him.
Something was far different with this meetup than the rest of the ones I had done. My heart never wanted to beat normally and every touch from him made me want him that much more. From the corner of my eye, I could see him frown. Was he really that interested in what was bothering me? Why? It wasn’t something he would have to deal with the moment he left me.
“Tell you what, if we meet up a few more times after this, I’ll open up. But that also means you have to open up to me.” I said and looked back at him.
I could see the hesitation in his face after my words sunk into his brain. Looks like I got out of this one. Scored one for Levi.
“Alright. Deal.”
Fuck. That wasn’t the answer that I had been expecting. With how much he had been hesitating, I would have figured he’d say no for sure and that I wouldn’t have to talk about this.
“I can tell that you weren’t expecting that answer. I can tell you don’t want to about it right now and I won’t pressure you into telling me.” Majima replied brushing his thumb over my lip.
This one man turned my whole world upside down. He was the one I was looking to be with for the rest of my life. Where had he been this whole time? Even more so, would I ever see him again? That was the biggest thing I was worried about at this point in time. I let out a sigh and caved in.
“Fine. But I’m holding you to that.” I retorted and looked away from him again.
I could see him smile from the corner of my eye and I could help but roll my eyes. This man was a strange one. He surprised me further by stretching out and laying his head on my chest with both arms wrapped around me. This caused me to look at him and from this position, I was able to see the full extent of his tattoo. I knew it had to have been huge, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as big as it was. A large Hannya face that followed the same color scheme as the snakes on his chest went all the way down his back and stopped just above his ass.
I blinked. I knew people who had tattoos this large. The only reason they had them was because they were in the yakuza. Then it dawned on me. He was part of a yakuza family! Would he die if he was found a man? Would I die? What would happen to me if he or one of his family members didn’t kill me? I needed to stop my brain on it’s thought process and focus on the situation now. He didn’t seem like the type to kill and he didn’t have anyone following him. It eased some of the worry in me but at the same time, I couldn’t stop worrying.
We continued to chat idly about random things we liked to do until we both fell asleep. That night was the first time I ever slept peacefully.
