I'm over here begging you. For the love of all that is holy, please talk to me about Tyler Seguin and the new dude, Mason Marchment !
anon i would LOVE to discuss tyler and mush !!!!! im very sorry this will probably be super long winded and incoherent. but u shouldve known what u signed up for with me tbh
FIRST i wanna say if ur looking for like. in depth analysis or many Moments of theirs i would very much recommend taking time to scroll through teex’s 2791 tag it is a joy and pretty thoroughly covers all of the stupidity from this season and i feel like they r like pioneering the 2791/smush insanity. that being said. allow me to talk my shit for a moment dkfsdjkfs.
i just think its Fascinating that in the past few years tyler has for sure like, turned down his usual vibe of constantly hamming it up for the camera and getting super flirty with all these guys etc etc. it is, i think, far less present these past few yrs than before. until mush got to this team lol. i feel like he’s really been brought back out of his shell (definitely also helped by the new coaching staff, his recovery from injuries, finding a new role on the team, their success etc, but) and we’re starting to see this silly tyler that we know and love again!!! the first thing i can really remember of them being particularly fun flirty and cringe together is the sandwich video (this is prolly wrong, but off the top of my head), but their chemistry has definitely been there all season. like even before we were exposed to this type of behavior, they’ve been on a line together All Season, even when they could not get a good third guy to fit on their line, deboer clearly knew there was something working between them. which like, we all saw the first few games of the season. obviously he’s correct lol.
so they have good chemistry on the ice which is a super plus, and we’ve seen time and time again how close they are as people - mush being insane concerned about tyler’s injury, constantly saying they miss the other when they’re injured, the sandwich video, tyler “interviewing” mush with his drink, etc - and they just have a lot of casual affection for one another. but i have to say. my favorite thing is how stupid i feel for not realizing that they’d be an obvious pairing the second mush got traded here lmao. if you look at a long line of Tyler History he fits PERFECTLY. a feisty, huge, dark-haired left winger???? that is his MO, at this point (all 4 traits have applied to his like Closest or most notorious connections, but if u wanna take out “huge” we got marchy on the b’s, if u wanna talk ancient history we have tyler brown back when he was young young idk how feisty he was, but either way these are like. quintessential traits he loves). (this is a bit tyler heavy, on account of i just know more about him in general than mush, so sorry about that lol) but he very much just wants someone he can make fun of / laugh at, someone who would probably kill an opponent for him , and someone who is a huge cringe loser who will do anything to make him laugh. and mason for suuuuure checks off all those boxes and more. and if that is what we needed to bring back the silly, god bless mush, because he succeeded and Also made me adore HIM at the same time. despite all his mess and penalty minutes fjldsfklds
this is like. super long winded i am so sorry. but if there’s anything specific u wanna talk abt with these two cringefail losers Please feel free to message me or send another ask or whatever. i can’t even begin to unpack how deranged i feel abt them sometimes !!!
#i cant bring myself to reread all of this back i hope it makes sense dfjdksfks#anon i hope u anticipated this stupidity when u sent me that ask lol#if anyone would like to educate me more on mush as a guy. please feel free#ive absorbed everything from him on this team this season and some like past interviews from the marlies and wtv#but i obviously have. years and years and years of tyler knowledge and lore stored so#u have also hit me at peak insanity bc i am working on art that includes 2791. writing this is my break fjkdsfhkjds#ask#anonymous

once you accept that stan was badly written in the muschietti movies then you will Realize
muschietti in chapter one: stan’s only character traits will be jewish, scared, and mean towards his friends.
muschietti in chapter two: stan’s whole existence will be used as a device to move the plot along and also i will glorify his suicide.
stan had no sense of individualism in these movies and it’s just so apparent that andy & co simply did not care about his storyline. chapter one stan had like nine lines in the whole movie and was stereotyped as the cowardly jewish boy who for some reason had an overbearing father. and then in chapter two he was defaulted as a plot device to motivate the other losers’ stories (going to the clubhouse to get stan’s token so they can start their own token search, his bar mitzvah speech to make richie stay in derry, the spider stan refrigerator scene, stan’s final letter to claim he was a martyr for the losers).
it’s funny because the bar mitzvah scene was originally filmed for chapter one, but then andy deleted it, which at first i was mad about because stan needed more screen time, but then i realized that it made sense chronologically because it would be weird to have stan have this big brave speech but then suddenly get all scared again when they returned to neibolt later to save bev. so, i understood the decision to cut the scene. but then andy inserted it back into chapter two, but with a new monologue. and this new speech felt more like plot device to show the regression of the losers during their fallout and ultimately as a way to have richie stay in derry (because andy again made the losers have a fallout even though that stands against literally everything the losers club stands for).
these movies just never felt like it had any development for stan. and i’ve seen people say the letter was stan’s ultimate growth but no! it really just romanticized his suicide. stan killed himself because he felt scared - andy even stated in the director’s commentary that stan’s suicide was cowardly so he wanted to make it seem like stan killed himself to save the others. but stan’s suicide was meant to show his fear and emphasize how powerful It really is. he wasn’t happy to kill himself. he wasn’t smiling as he died. he wasn’t some sacrificial lamb out to slaughter. and he would never ask his wonderful wife who he loved since the moment he met her, who would now be a newly-made widow to go deliver six letters to his childhood friends she’s never met before, like literally what the fuck.
by all intents and purposes stan should be the loser that you don’t connect to because he literally dies in chapter three of the book. but you still end up loving his character as a kid even knowing that he dies. he is a big contributor to the losers and has his own storyline that makes him unique and needed. the tragedy of stan is that he ended up living a happy normal life as an adult which is drastically different from the other losers, but when the time came to go back, he was unable to. his death is meant to be tragic but not necessary.
simply, stanley uris deserved better.
#this is super incoherent and i probably missed a few points but i just remembered movie stan and got into a blind rage to write this#this is two years too late but whatever y'all know i'm unhinged#like i've seen people discuss how badly eddie mike and richie are mischaracterized in the movies#but no one really talks about stan so it makes me think people are happy with his portrayal? which they shouldn't be bc it sucked#andy and sk did not care about stan lbr#i think ao3 user sinchronicity who wrote circular motion has all the rights to stanley uris actually#stanley uris#it#tw suicide#tw suicide mention

You don't need to write this if you dont want too because it's up to you but this is something wholsome
WHAT IF L!MC M!M & BBY A!MC BECOME BABIES AND THERE EVEONES HAS TO CARE FOR THEM,
I apologize for having such horrible writing and grammer. I never payed attention in school, nor could I afford to pay attention 👉😎👉
Bro I feel you on the not paying attention in school thing. Fear not, dearest asker, ask for demon babies, and since I am a merciful writer, you shall receive.
Oh Shit, Half-Demon Babies are Running Amok Send Diapers and Help-
Mini summary for the casual reader, L!MC is Lucifer’s half demon child who got summoned into the Devildom to be one of the human exchange students, M!MC is Mammon’s half demon kid, and A!MC is Asmo’s. Let’s get to the fic!
Ah, what a relaxing day... Lucifer was sitting back in his desk chair, enjoying a nice glass of Demonus and listening to one of his favourite cursed vinyls. He had done a damn good job on his work earlier and Diavolo had insisted there was no more work to be done and he could have the weekend all to himself.
Of course, his brothers were still a factor that could have ruined his me-time... on any other weekend! Satan had just gotten a new encyclopedia to read, so he wouldn’t be causing any trouble, Beel and Belphie were going to take that Devildom food tour, Mammon and M!MC were planning on spending the entire weekend shopping, Asmo and A!MC were going up to the human world on Saturday and staying until Sunday, and Levi... He got a sudden burst of inspiration for his Animal Crossing Island and most likely wouldn’t be leaving his room for the next month. Lastly, L!MC wouldn’t be causing any problems, his child would probably spend their time with him rambling about musicals or anime they had seen, and Lucifer found their intense interest very adorable.
Ah... peace and quiet...
...
...why did Lucifer hear crying?
There, standing in the entrance hall of the House of Lamentation, was Solomon, holding three screaming babies.
What, and I cannot stress this enough, THE HELL?!
“Ah, Lucifer,” Solomon attempted to wave hello, but needing to continue to bounce one of the babies on his hip kind of hindered the gesture, not that Lucifer wanted a wave at that moment. “I’m sure you have questions.”
After everyone had gathered into the living room, Solomon explained how a spell gone awry had hit L!MC, M!MC, and A!MC with the effect of turning the three into the screaming infants that stood (or... awkwardly sprawled out) in front of them.
On the bright side, the spell only had a timespan of roughly two days, so they wouldn’t be stuck like that forever.
Everyone sat in silence for a few minutes (save for the babies, who were still either crying or incoherently babbling) as they processed that information. Lucifer, ever the flawless older brother and leader, stood up and clapped his hands together once.
“Alright then, everyone cancel your weekend plans, we need to deal with this.”
Lucifer’s dearest little brothers all whined in protest, Satan in particular. “They’re not our kids, why do Belphie, Beel, Levi, and I need to cancel our plans?!”
“Satan,” Lucifer said sternly. “You don’t remember this, but it took six people to take care of one of you. The kids may only be half demons but there are three of them. We need all hands on deck. Besides, if you all want someone to blame, blame Solomon.”
Everyone turned and levelled their practically murderous glared at the sorcerer, who suddenly pulled baby A!MC into his lap and began to rock them back and forth.
“I have never felt more unsafe.” Solomon laughed nervously. “But you wouldn’t kill me while I’m holding my not-child would you?”
Asmo stomped over and snatched A!MC away from Solomon. “I can’t believe you- ACK! A!MC! Stop drooling!”
A!MC had a long trail of drool coming out of their mouth which caused Asmo to shriek and hold A!MC at arms length away. “Stop that! That’s gross, A!MC, you know better.”
The adorable baby continued to babble and drool.
Mammon picked up M!MC, who almost immediately stopped crying upon seeing Mammon’s watch, they began making grab hands at it. “Ah, ya want the watch?”
M!MC squealed in delight as Mammon dangled the watch above them, Mammon was delighted that his little brat still had their expensive taste, even as a baby. “Hey, look at me! I’m doin’ pretty good! Suck it, Asmo!”
As Asmo and Mammon bickered, Lucifer took the time to look at L!MC, they pulled at Lucifer’s tie and hummed to themselves. They were mind numbingly cute despite the screeching they were doing earlier. The sight tugged at the cold spot where Lucifer’s heart should have been, he had missed this part of his child’s life... maybe just that weekend he’d get a chance to-
“Solomon where do you think you’re going?” Lucifer was pulled from his thoughts when he noticed the shifty bastard trying to make his escape. “You’re staying to help manage this nonsense.”
—————
A!MC may have been an absolute ray of sunshine normally, but as a baby, they definitely lived up to the term demon-spawn.
A!MC would scream, cry and pitch a fit if they didn’t get what they wanted immediately, not that they had any way of articulating what they wanted because they were a god damn baby! Asmo and Solomon were at the point where they were just holding stuff out to A!MC to see if it would make them stop crying.
“Come on butterfly, don’t you like this... antique perfume bottle?” Asmo asked, A!MC took one look at it, then burst into flames and started wailing again. “For the love of my father WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!”
Now there were two sobbing messes in the room, and one was on fire. Solomon quickly magically took care of A!MC’s little fire problem (the baby was fiiiiiiine, demon babies light themselves on fire all the time!), picked A!MC up, sat down on Asmo’s bed, and snapped his fingers. Tiny balls of light gently floated into the air around the three, Asmo looked up from his pity party upon hearing A!MC stop their crying.
“See, you still like my magic, even as a baby, right A!MC?” Solomon asked, A!MC looked around in silent wonder, trying to reach up and touch the lights.
“Oh Solomon, this almost makes me forgive you for screwing up my weekend plans...” Asmo sighed in relief, he sat next to Solomon and pulled A!MC into his lap. “Not very colourful though, is it? Let me fix that.”
Asmo smiled as his own magic added streaks of colour, it was like their very own private showing of the northern lights. A!MC had on one of those goofy baby smiles that can make even the grumpiest person smile back.
Solomon and Asmo shaped some of the lights into shapes and animals, Asmo let a pink butterfly land on A!MC’s nose, much to their adorable delight.
“And that one’s a bird, and that one’s a giraffe,”
“That’s an alpaca.”
“Sorry, an alpaca with a weirdly long neck, oh! And a sheep!” Asmo looked down at his lap where A!MC sat and tickled their sides. “Everyone likes sheep!”
He then quickly shaped a ball of light into a scorpion and made it scuttle into A!MC’s lap. “But I have to say, scorpions are the best.”
The fifth born sighed in contentment as their sweet little hellspawn continued to watch the magic show. Never in his life did Asmodeus ever think he’d be this happy holding a baby, usually babies were things he thought should be handled with hazmat suits, but not at that moment. His little butterfly truly did have him wrapped around their finger.
“Asmo, hey, Asmo,” Asmo looked over at Solomon, who had a glowing triangle over one of his eyes. “Would you like to join my secret society?”
“Solomon, you are ruining the moment.”
——————
“C’mon kiddo! Eat your damn food!” Mammon once again tried to shove the spoon into his kid’s mouth with the same result as the 50 previous attempts.
“YUCKY!” M!MC shouted and slapped the spoon away.
“Here,” Beel took the spoon from Mammon. “Maybe it’s yucky like they said.”
Beel ate what was on the spoon, then smiled brightly. “You can really taste the mango!”
“See bud..? Beel likes it.” Mammon gestured at Beel, who was eating the entire jar of baby food as Belphie watched in amusement. He was such an asset to the team. “Beel! They need to eat!”
“Fine, let me try.” Belphie grabbed another spoon, and waved it in M!MC’s face. “Here comes the airplane... whoosh... whoosh...”
M!MC didn’t budge, Belphie knitted his eyebrows and rolled his eyes. “Okay, fine, be that way.”
Levi pushed open the door to the kitchen, and upon seeing the scene before him, immediately turned and tried to leave. “Nope! Food isn’t worth getting spit up all over me-”
Mammon lunged forward, grabbed the back of Levi’s jacket and practically yanked him into the kitchen, he slapped a spoon into his hand and smiled. “C’mon, do a favour for your super great big brother!”
The third born looked at M!MC, who defiantly stared back at him, the baby had the upper hand and the little brat knew it. Babies were so much cuter in anime...
Levi nervously stepped forward and held out the spoon like a weapon. “O-okay M-M-M!MC... you need to eat your food... pls... pls eat.”
M!MC said nothing, they only did what most babies did.
...
They spun their head 90 degrees until the back of their head was all Levi could see.
Everyone in the kitchen stood in complete silence, until Mammon jumped a foot in the air and started screaming bloody murder. “MY BABY!”
He dove forward and scooped M!MC up in his arms, the baby, obviously freaked out by the sudden loud noise, had begun to cry.
“It’s okay! It’s okay! Uh... uh...” Mammon looked around frantically. “Hush little baby don’t say a word... papas gonna buy you a mockingbird. And if that mockingbird don’t sing, papa’s gonna buy you a diamond ring... and if that diamond ring is brass, butitwon’tbebecauseyouroldmanwouldn’tgetcheatedlikethat-”
M!MC spun their head back to its correct position, but their crying sounds were now several octaves lower... It sounded like if someone put a baby in the Darth Vader mask but without the weird breathing sounds...
Mammon looked to Belphie. “I’m blankin’ on nursery rhymes! Ya hafta know some kid songs!”
Belphie, after being put on the spot, suddenly forgot every single nursery rhyme and lullaby any of his brothers had ever sung to him. Oh! A song popped into his head! He could sing that!
“Lizzie Borden took an axe, gave her mother forty whacks, when she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty one-”
“Not that one!” Mammon squeaked, holding M!MC closer to him. M!MC’s voice had returned to normal, the next problem is that they were only speaking in infernal. “Somethin’ else!”
“There was an old lady who swallowed a fly,” Beel began to sing. “I don’t know why she swallowed that fly... I forgot the rest of the song...”
“Dammit... Leviiiiii!” Mammon wheezed, desperately trying to calm the angrily growling M!MC. “Sing! Sing anything!”
“A-anything?” Only one song came to mind. “Uh um... With the doors of heaven and Hell barred, there is no other but the guard, Master of the Hellish Yard...”
Mammon lit up and nodded like Levi had just offered him a million Grimm. “Aw hell yeah! This song!”
He handed M!MC to Beel and began to dance and sing next to Levi, who had really gotten into the song as well!
“With those sins that you've committed, If you pay you'll be acquitted, and your crimes all permitted,” the two paused for dramatic effect before both belting out the best line in the song.
“ONLY ONES WITH CASH DO WELL, WELL AT LEAST IN HELL!”
As Levi and Mammon continued to sing, M!MC became so entranced by the dance, that they stopped their demonic babbling and just watched the second and third born dance and sing the English cover of an old vocaloid song. Belphie and Beel made brief confused eye contact to make sure the other twin was seeing the same thing.
The duo finished the song and took a bow, Beel lightly tapped M!MC’s chubby baby hands together to make it look like they were clapping. It was enough for Mammon and Levi.
“Thank you, thank you,” Mammon said. “We’ll be here forever, next show ain’t free.”
“We should sing The Tailor on Enbizaka next!”
“Levi! No! That song is like... seven minutes long!”
“Hey, morons,” Belphie stuck his thumb at M!MC. “They still haven’t eaten.”
Mammon’s triumphant expression dropped right to the floor. “Ah fuck...”
——————
“Satan, where’s L!MC-” Lucifer looked up at the ceiling of Satan’s room and his jaw dropped. “WHAT ARE THEY DOING UP THERE?!”
“I can’t get them down!” Satan hissed back.
L!MC. L!MC the BABY. They were on the ceiling. They were sitting upside down on the ceiling like it was an average Friday. Lucifer was too old for this shit...
“L!MC.” Lucifer held out his arms, L!MC squinted at him, that’s when Lucifer remembered L!MC was practically blind without their glasses. “L!MC, it’s your father, come here.”
“Don’t you think I’ve tried calling them down like that?!” Satan spat as he quickly ran a hand through his hair.
Lucifer shot a glare at Satan, then Lucifer heard something that nearly made his (lack of) heart stop. Oh no- L!MC was yawning-
L!MC yawned and suddenly detached from the ceiling. Lucifer and Satan both dove forward to catch L!MC, which culminated in one of Satan’s piles of books falling down, but with L!MC safe and sound.
“Damn it.” Satan grumbled as Lucifer shifted to properly hold L!MC. “This is going to take forever to clean...”
“That was clean?” Lucifer raised an eyebrow as L!MC began to fuss slightly.
Satan growled and rolled his eyes. “Yes, it was clean thank you very much. I knew exactly where everything was.”
The cat that unofficially ruled the House of Lamentation pranced into Satan’s room like it didn’t have a care in the world, it began to bat at one of the loose papers that had been scattered around the floor. Detective Toe Beans, you’re an esteemed detective, and technically RAD’s mascot, stop that!
Satan scooped up the cat and began to put the books back in the pile, when Lucifer noticed a familiar, beat-up old book lying near the bottom of the pile.
“Ah, I remember this book,” Lucifer leaned down and picked it up, showing the cover to L!MC, who didn’t seem very interested and continued petting the fur part of Lucifer’s jacket. “It’s good for a bedtime story, right L!MC?”
Lucifer tucked the book under his arm and turned to leave when Satan practically shot upwards. “If you think you can just take that out of my room, you’re completely delusional.”
“Are you seriously going to whine about getting a bedtime story for L!MC?”
“CAT!” L!MC looked over Lucifer’s shoulder and reached for Detective Toe Beans. “CAT!”
“Yes L!MC, cat.” Lucifer whispered to them, then turned back to Satan. “And if I’m remembering correctly, I used to read this to you. Do you really want to deprive poor L!MC of bedtime stories from me?”
“Pff... deprive...” Satan rolled his eyes and huffed. “I’d be saving them. You were the only one who never did any voices for the characters, I was bored to sleep.”
Satan walked forward and swiped the book from Lucifer. “If anyone’s reading L!MC a bedtime story, it should be me. I’m twice the storyteller you’ll ever be.”
Lucifer scoffed. “Ridiculous. We’ll both read L!MC a story and they can tell us who did best when they get back to normal.”
“Fine by me.”
The three (four if you count Bean) were soon seated on the couch in Lucifer’s room. Lucifer took the first story.
Satan listened along and absentmindedly pet Bean, hearing a story he had heard over and over again had managed to bring back memories of a time where he had significantly less control over his wrath. Every night he’d demand a bedtime story or he’d throw a tantrum unlike anything the Devildom had ever seen.
The eldest was always there to swoop in and read Satan a story whenever the little ball of seething rage looked ready to kill the unfortunate brother who told him it was bedtime.
It had gotten to the point that Satan could recite most of the stories in the book completely by heart. He chuckled under his breath as he remembered the time he matter of factly told Lucifer that he’d be reading him the bedtime story that night and proceeded to pretend to read the story of The Hydra and the Pufferfish. He hadn’t actually learned to read, much to Lucifer’s dismay, Satan just memorized what to say and when to turn the pages.
Though, it was apparently impressive enough at the time to warrant a head pat from Lucifer.
The fourth born leaned closer to Lucifer to get a better look at the book’s illustrations. They were always slightly off and strange looking, much like the pictures in the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book that L!MC had given Satan for his birthday.
Lucifer abruptly stopped reading.
“Why’d you stop?” Satan looked up at Lucifer, then over at L!MC. Aw... Satan didn’t even get a chance to read...
“Our audience has fallen asleep.” Lucifer stifled a yawn and prepared to close the book, Satan quickly shoved his hand on the page to stop him.
“You started reading,” Satan looked away and grumbled. “So at least finish the story...”
Lucifer smirked and opened the book back up. “If you insist, Satan.”
————————
Yayyyyy! Babies! I’m sure the three get back to normal by Monday... hopefully...
Here’s a link to the song Levi and Mammon are singing!
I hope you all enjoyed! As of the time I’m posting this, the next set of Lessons 1-5 Headcanons will be out tomorrow at 8:30 pm EST.

I was thinking about how Katsuki has never seen Deku in the hospital before and how Deku might be surprised to see him, and how that would probably hurt Katsukis feelings.
Then I decided to be self-indulgent and write the scene out. It was supposed to be short but I got super self-indulgent, because I like making Katsuki feel and making it hurt 🥰
I don’t wanna be unexpected
Deku carefully cracks open his eyes slowly taking in a dark unfamiliar ceiling and the heavy aching of his limbs, he isn’t fully cast anymore but a routine stiffness that tells him he had been.
He’s grown used to this routine over the last year, he doesn’t even bother trying to sit up. Instead, he just scans the room the best he can from his semi-horizontal position.
Turning his head to the left he sees an empty visiting chair and a small window letting in the city’s lights. It’s the only light the room has so it must be well into the middle of the night.
Continuing to the right he sees a small nightstand filled with get-well cards and gifts. It brings a smile to his cracked lips, he’d most certainly cry if his body had the water to spare.
If you told Deku a year ago that he’d get into UA he might have believed you, but never in a million years would he believe you if you told him he was on friendly terms with at least 1/3 of all of UA’s hero course students.
Sometimes that felt like the most unbelievable part of everything. Having his idol pass his legacy to him to beat an ancient evil? Crazy but within the realm of his imagination.
Making close friends with half his class and being at a minimum a positive acquaintance to most of his peers? It was almost unthinkable for a kid who’d spent his whole life being scorned and left out by even his teachers.
Choked up by his feelings, Deku tries to swallow the painful lump forming in his throat. He’s worried so many people and let them down by getting hospitalized yet again.
He’s too dehydrated to cry but he can’t help the dry cracked warble that escapes him. It takes a concentrated effort to clear his throat and not break down completely. It wouldn’t be cathartic at this moment, just painful.
A small groan from the foot of his bed pulls his attention away from reading what he could of the cards.
What he sees doesn’t instantly register with his groggy mind. That’s not uncommon, usually, the longer he’s out the more disoriented he is upon waking, his body might have made a full recovery but the brain takes longer to re-engage with its surroundings.
Deku doesn’t expect to see Kacchan of all people in his hospital room at all, let alone when he first wakes up in the dead of night, but the blonde tuft of hair sticking up from a familiar orange hoodie turned makeshift pillow cradled in well-toned arms makes the figure resting over the edge of his hospital bed unmistakable
Deku would know that pale face pinched into a grimace anywhere.
It adds to the layer of confusion he’s grown used to as part of waking up hospitalized. It also adds a layer of dread and an equal amount of relief. Things must be pretty bad if Kacchan is here, but Kacchan is here and he looks completely whole. It’s a best worst-case scenario.
Kacchan lets out a small grunt as he pushes his face deeper into orange cotton. Deku’s heart squeezes at the sight of the blonde's obvious discomfort.
Kacchan should be at home sleeping in a real bed, not hunched over in a visitor chair clutching a hoodie for a pillow.
Without thinking Deku calls out “Kacchan?”, his voice just above a whisper, a selfish part of him hopes Kacchan will stay asleep a little longer. That he’ll stay where Deku can see him and knows he’s okay. But he knows it’s selfish. So he calls again a little louder, his voice hoarse and scratchy from lack of use.
The blonde shoots up, eyes near frantic as he looks around before red irises settle their sites on him with more concern than Deku ever remembers seeing on Kacchan. Well, at least outside a fight and directed at him.
He hopes they're not about to fight, but when it comes to Kacchans temperament… well he’d be a fool to dismiss the possibility of it.
For a moment all Kacchan does is stare at him. It makes something cold and heavy settle in his stomach. Nothing scares Kacchan, and yet he looks completely shaken.
“Deku? Are you really awake this time?” Katsuki tries to not make his whisper sound as desperate as he feels. There’s no point getting worked up over another dream or worse a still drug-addled Deku, but this Deku seems to recognize him for the first time, and although tired his green eyes shined with a level of coherency that’s been missing for a few days now.
Katsukis’s chest grew tight seeing it. It paled in comparison to the glimmer of brilliance that usually shone in those beautiful emeralds, but when compared to the unfocused glazed look he had been sporting the last few days? Well, Katsuki thought he just might collapse with relief.
This is what he’d been waiting for, Deku’s been physically healed for at least 2 days now but consciously he’s been pretty touch and go. “Uh, I think so?” That’s definitely not the kinda question Deku had been expecting, but he has his own question he wants to get to before they get into that.
Pushing through the dry burning in his throat Deku rattled off the most pressing questions. “How are you feeling? Is everyone okay? Did LOV getaway? What’s going on?”
Annoyance flashes in Katsukis’s eyes before quieting with acceptance, of course, the nerd wants to know how everyone else is and the current status. Katsuki wanted the same when he first woke up, they were heroes in training, after all. Their own lives would always take a backseat to their self-appointed responsibilities.
“Hold on. You sound like sh– not good.” Katsuki got up and got the nerd a cup of water and then helped him sit upright, trying to decide on what to tell him. Completely missing the way Deku flushed at his uncharacteristic gentleness.
Katsuki decided on the bare minimum.
“I don’t wanna talk about that sh- not good fight right now. All you need to know is that everyone is fine. You’re the only one still layed up, worrying everyone half to death. You’ve been out for almost a week, you woke up a few times but you were all loopy calling people by the wrong names.”
Calling him by the wrong name. Deku must have said an incoherent hello to half the class only sometimes guessing who he was speaking to correctly or just talking to no one at all before immediately falling back asleep. Deku had of course asked about him more than a few times but not once did the bastard see him sitting right in front of him.
It had taken every ounce of willpower Katsuki possessed to not throttle him, but he’d promised All Might that for the sake of Auntie Inko he wouldn’t upset the nerd.
The pride Katsuki had just momentarily taken in thinking to get Deku water, the gentleness he took help the dweeb sit up, and managing not to swear when recounting the transgressions to boot turned ashen when he saw the way Deku shied away with guilt.
A stubborn part of him felt righteous and believed Deku should feel guilty, a larger part felt a sense of failure in breaking his promise to All Might literally the first time he actually spoke to Deku.
“Wait, if everyone else is okay what are you doing here?” Deku feels himself relaxing despite his guilt, contentment settling in the spaces where trepidation previously roosted, he trusted Kacchan to be honest.
If he says everything’s fine then it is, but the lack of pressing news makes Kacchan passed out at the end of his bed even more confusing.
The painkillers he’s on make thinking feel like everything’s ruining through Windows 95’, he can practically hear his brain's fan whirring. His mind can’t really pull up fresh thoughts, just old truths, Kacchans never visited before and he apparently has no reason to now.
Katsuki sighs as he slumps back into his chair. Deku’s still clearly confused and he isn’t sure he has the energy to repeat himself right now, then considering how he failed the first time he decides might as well try.
“Everyone is fine, everything is as fine as it can be at the moment. You’re in the hospital recovering from the fight with supercharged crusty mcdusty, but you are also apparently going to be fine” Dekus staring at him like he has two heads so he keeps talking. “The league is being dealt with, I’m not talking about the fighting until tomorrow at the earliest, neither of us is in shape for that conversation and I don’t know much myself yet”
Deku’s pinch brows and slight pout tell him he’s got questions, questions he can’t answer. Anytime he even thinks about how the fight went down he feels like he’s going to explode.
Trying to reign in every ounce of self control he possesses he slumps further in his chair rubbing his face and counts to five. Then kicks Dekus hospital bed for good measure, before speaking again.
“Deku just rest, you're clearly still out of it and I don’t wanna repeat myself a third time.” Seriously how many other ways can he say everything is, by a very loose definition, fine. How much clearer can he make it that he’s not giving anything else up?
“Uh you didn’t have to repeat yourself? I believed you the first time, Kacchan” Deku couldn’t help but feel like Kacchan was purposely misinterpreting his question, but why? It shouldn’t be a hard question, he’d really only asked to make conversation and clear up some brain cobwebs.
“Then why did you ask–“ Something ugly and broken twists in Katsuki’s gut as he slowly repeated Dekus' question in his head ‘what are you doing here’.
“I just didn’t expect to see you here if you didn’t have to be.”
Deku wasn’t, hadn’t been, asking why someone was there with him but why he, Katsuki, was there. Deku wanted to know why he was here instead of literally anyone else. Deku didn’t know that Katsuki had basically taken up permanent residence in here with him, probably couldn’t see the cot laying at the foot of his bed.
White-hot rage coursed through him in an instant, after everything they went through Deku thought he’d just ditch him to some extras in scrubs? Katsuki had a bad temper on good sleep, exhausted he was ready to put Deku back in a coma.
He struggled with the feeling of his palms heating, but the second before he felt like detonating Katsuki caught Deku’s eyes in full.
As always they show everything the nerds feeling and the familiarity soothes him in a way he can’t explain. Doesn’t ever want to explain.
It used to drive him up the wall like Deku was purposely giving him messages in a language he couldn’t read. Shoving in his face how inadequate he is in comparison.
Katsuki knows now that’s not the case and over the last few months, he’s actually been learning how to read Deku for the first time in his life.
And he’s discovering that even though it’s an advanced read for him he likes the challenge and even more he likes the victorious warmth that spreads down to his toes when he can tell just what Dekus is thinking without any words.
Right now Deku does look slightly confused and yet still so open and trusting, and his crooked shy smile proves that he is actually happy Katsukis here. His confusion is just that, confusion.
Always glad to see him, always caught off guard by his presence.
As much as the familiarity soothed the recognition hurt.
A couple of months on good terms doesn’t erase all the bad years, he knows this, he’s told himself as much a dozen-plus times.
He’s never visited Deku in the infirmary or the hospital before now.
At first just because his stubborn pride insisted that he couldn’t show weakness/care for someone else because he was above them all, that he had to constantly act like Deku was below him. Even when he recognized Deku as a rival he didn’t visit, partly because of lingering pride but mostly because he felt like he didn’t deserve to.
He was too much of a coward/slave to his pride to risk being turned away.
This time he hadn’t even considered Deku might not want him, he had just selfishly insisted he stay by his side for his own peace of mind.
To see Deku wanted him here but couldn’t understand why Katsuki would want to be here himself left his fingers feeling numb as all the adrenaline drained out of him.
Deku studied Kacchan intently, his explosive rival had turned to him and risen half out his chair looking like he was about to shout at him but when their eyes locked the words had apparently died on his tongue.
Now Kacchan was just staring at him with an unreadable expression entirely unmoving after he plopped back in his seat, never breaking eye contact. It was clear now that Kacchan hadn’t understood his question at first but now he seemed lost at how to answer.
Deku wanted to wait for Kacchan to speak but experience told him he shouldn’t hold his breath.
Besides it was late, as much as he desperately didn’t want him to go, Kacchan should be safely asleep in his own room. It’d be selfish to ask him to stay.
Kacchan probably hadn’t meant to stay as late as he did, he was just prone to falling asleep wherever he was once 9 pm rolled around. Deku knew first hand that Auntie Mitsuki had a very strict bedtime policy that had long been physically instilled into Kacchans psyche.
“Kacchan, it’s late you should head back to the dorms and get some real sleep. I feel fine.” At the sudden incredulous tweak of a blonde eyebrow, Deku rushed to elaborate, “I mean I'm of course tired, and a sore but I feel whole. This is a familiar routine for me, I’m okay.”
Katsuki thought back to what he told All Might a lifetime ago, “he never considers himself”.
Here Deku was laying in a hospital bed concerned about his sleep and knowing just what he wanted/needed to hear, that Deku was okay, straight from the source.
It’s all he’d wanted to hear for almost a week now and he had to press his lips shut into a tight line to keep the embarrassing whimper he felt clawing at his throat from escaping.
“I know that you can go to the front desk and the attendant will call for a UA shuttle, doesn’t matter the time, Todoroki has left as late as 3 am”
Oh if that didn’t have something ugly snapping its jaws and thirsty for blood inside Katsuki. At heart, he’s always been explosively petty.
As much comfort as Todoroki being almost equally worried about Deku had been over the last week anytime anyone so much as even accidentally hinted at the ways Katsuki had failed to be there for Deku before now had him seeing red.
Reminding him how others had stepped up and into the places, Katsuki felt he should have been, felt like a slap in the face. But coming from Deku the anger he felt turned inward.
Where he usually saw red, all he saw was green. Not the warm emerald hue of Deku sitting in front of him, but dark bitter jealous green.
Petulant ‘whys’ clawed at his ribs. Why did people who’d only know Deku for a year have a more prominent roles in the nerds life than he did after knowing him forever, why did Deku have to like those extras so damn much, why didn’t he realize sooner how important Deku was, why did he have to care about any of that at all, why did Deku have to bring up that goddamn candy cane, why did Deku want to send him away, why wasn’t Deku even half as desperate to stay by his side as he was, why why why?!
He voiced none of these thoughts, instead just continued staring grumpily ahead. Hoping Deku didn’t notice how heavy his breathing had gotten or how he tightened his grip on the chair's armrests.
Deku took another sip of water before continuing. “I’m happy you’re here, really, it means a lot to me.” He let a genuine full smile slip on his face, he didn’t want Kacchan thinking he wasn’t grateful for his presence.
He really was happy that Kacchan was the first person he got to see upon waking up.
Circumstantial or not the fact that Kacchan was here with him now was a deep comfort to him and a pleasant way to wake up. Usually, it was to his classmates' forced positivity or his overly fussy weeping mother and that never got easier to deal with. As confusing as the change was it was a nice one. And he told him as much.
Why did Deku always know exactly what to say to people? When he, Katsuki Bakugo, couldn’t say anything at all.
Normally the instant relief his body felt at Deku’s words just pissed him off, but tonight exhaustion took its toll.
He felt the tears he’d been fighting all week fall hot and sticky down his cheeks, embarrassment shame and guilt tinted his face a splotchy pink. When he felt the lump in his throat give way to a choked hiccup he didn’t just crack, he shattered.
Ugly sobs racked through him and he buried his face in his hands and dug his fingers into his hair.
Why was the only familiar part of this him breaking down in front of Deku? He’s known Deku his whole life. He should have been the first and last person in Deku’s hospital room every time from the very beginning if for nothing more than obligation. Any one of those times could have been the last time.
Deku would have slipped away from him, and Katsuki would have been one of the last ones to know.
He hadn’t because he knew it’d always end up like this, him blubbering like a baby over Dekus hospital bed and he couldn’t risk it before. Too desperate to keep that little voice inside him that picks apart his every sign of weakness quiet.
It never goes away and UA had made it so much louder, he couldn’t give more feed to the fire. That’s exactly what Deku does to him.
On bad days Katsuki feels the little claws of insecurity scratching at his brain comparing him to Deku, that Deku’s surpassing him because he’s weak and he’s going to get left behind, he’s going to be forgotten.
On equally bad days he surpasses Deku completely and the voice switches gears, telling him he doesn’t deserve Dekus praises. That he’s a hopeless brat with an oversized ego and Deku’s words are empty. Katsuki hasn’t earned them, and he never will, Deku’s just placating him.
Katsuki doesn’t have good days.
Why did he even care though, Deku has seen him cry a dozen times and never once has it changed anything, hell Deku cries all the time.
But Deku’s never been debilitated by crying the way he is, Deku always keeps moving like he doesn’t even notice he’s crying. But he, Katsuki, can barely breathe around his tears.
Because he’s weak and a coward and everything Dekus not. Deku’s light years ahead of him in being a better person and by proxy a better hero and he’s never going to catch up.
Delirious with exhaustion Katsukis thoughts keep spiraling out of his control, growing more and more vicious.
He doesn’t even deserve to call himself Dekus' rival, Deku’s going to leave him behind, Deku’s going to keep taking on the world by himself because he’s not strong enough to fight alongside him, Dekus going to get himself killed and it’s all his fault. He’s hyperventilating through his sobs now.
“Wha- Kacchan, what’s wrong?” Deku suppressed a small groan at stretching stiff unused muscles as his scrambled brain had him lurch forward to grasp Kacchans wrists, he can see where blunt nails dig into his scalp. Gently as he could, Deku replaces callused hands with his crooked ones.
“Hey look at me.” He lifted Kacchans head to meet his eyes and took deep slow dramatic breaths encouraging Kacchan to match his breathing. Red eyes frantically scanned his face and clutched his wrists tightly like a lifeline, desperate that Deku doesn’t pull away.
Slowly their breathing synchronized, the tears kept flowing though, Deku was certain he was crying now too but he made no move to confirm this. He just kept watching Kacchan, keeping his own breathing steady. This wasn’t the first time he’s had Kacchan match his breathing, but it is the first time he’s been this close and this obvious about it. Then again Kacchans never looked this desperate.
In the past when he’s noticed Kacchans breathing has sped up and his gaze looks far away he’ll nonchalantly sit down next to him like he hasn’t noticed Kacchans problem at all, then he’ll practice his own breathing exercises a little louder than would be considered polite. Consciously or not Kacchan follows suit.
He’d learned the tactic when he was 7 from his mom helping one of their neighbors on the way to the store, a very nice lady he called Auntie Kay. She had some kind of disorder that gave her bad anxiety and had apparently forgotten to take meds that morning and got overwhelmed by the noise. His mom used to be an assisted living caregiver before she became, well his mom, so she had experience with this kind of thing.
Later she explained what she’d been doing. That you're someone they have a long history of trusting you don’t want to get in their space, just reaffirm to them that they’re safe and try to get them to slow their breathing, focus on breathing out.
1, because It’s hard to concentrate if you don’t feel safe. 2, the human body doesn’t know if it has enough oxygen, it knows if it’s getting enough air and if it has too much carbon dioxide in it, and you breathe out carbon dioxide.
That day his mom was like a mini hero, saving the day with a smile. It made him more aware that there’s more to being a hero than just fighting villains, it’s about saving people.
He can’t fight villains from a hospital bed, he could still be there for others. He could be there for Kacchan.
After a minute he hesitantly thumbed away the freshest tears but that seemed to just make things worse as another sob racked through Kacchan and he tightened his grip on his wrists. It wasn’t until Kacchan finally spoke and he reflexively snapped his jaw shut that Deku realized he’d been making soft shushing noises.
Katsuki tightened his grip on Deku’s wrists as he choked on one last sob thinking that Deku was finally pulling away, but when he just continued to thumb his tears away and making soft little noises he let himself believe Deku wasn’t going to dismiss him again.
Katsukis never let himself be comforted like this by anyone, not even as a child, but he was too tired to fight it, too distraught to care about how selfish he’s sure he’s being, and too certain that Deku was the only thing keeping him tethered to reality.
He’s confronted his own mortality a few times this year but none of it had compared to being confronted in real-time with Dekus. Living with Deku so close to death over the last week had taken its toll on everyone but Katsuki especially had been unraveling more and more each day.
The first day he’d been ready to bring the entire hospital down if he didn’t get to Deku’s side immediately. It only got worse from there.
He’d grown more cantankerous than he’d ever been, but the fire in him had been dying out. By the time Deku first woke up and didn’t recognize him the only thing he’d say to anyone was the same mumbled shut up, only sometimes accompanied by half-hearted sparks daring anyone to try to remove him from the room.
Auntie Inko was distraught too but she had let All Might take her home after that first visit and encouraged her to rest there saying something about how no mother should have to see this side of hero work or whatever.
The doctors were probably just worried about what all those tears might do to their equipment, Katsuki certainly had been even if he hadn’t said so.
Katsuki had promised Inko he’d stay by Deku’s' side, she’d looked conflicted about something but they both silently agreed that was a discussion for another day.
Katsuki doesn’t know what to say now but desperately feels like he needs to say something.
He’s terrified it’ll all come out wrong and freak Deku out, Deku who just woke up for real for the first time! He’s terrified of saying nothing and losing his chance to say anything at all because Deku just woke up for real for the first time in a week!
Deku deserves to hear him apologize for everything, but he doesn’t feel like he’s ready to be forgiven and if Deku doesn’t forgive he doesn’t know what’ll happen to him, he may very well implode.
If Deku turns him away then the kindest thing the universe could do for him would be to ignite every nitroglycerin-soaked cell in his body and just let him go. But the universe isn’t kind and will instead make him force himself out of this room and into a UA shuttle and into a life where everything green fades into bleak gray.
“Kacchan, your muttering” Deku says with the softest smile Katsuki has ever seen, and he feels like all his broken pieces have begun melting.
Deku stays silent, thumbs rubbing gentle circles. He seems content with doing nothing more than smiling at him until the sun comes up. And Katsuki feels another sob rip through him as he forces himself to speak.
“I meant it when I told you to keep your eyes on me.” The desperation in his own voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard to him. “I want you to know to look for me, and that I’ll be there. Even outside of heroing. I want you to expect me at every turn, forever. I don’t wanna be unexpected”
Deku leans forward and Katsuki thinks he’ll stop breathing all over again until their foreheads bump together. Deku’s looking right in his eyes, and he’s so close Katsuki's eyes can barely focus on him. They just stay like that for a small eternity while Katsuki’s heart beats wildly for entirely different reasons. One’s he’s not sure he’s ready to understand.

midnight murmurs
Iwaizumi x Reader - Scenario
a/n: Iwaizumi rattles off some late-night thoughts to you while you’re “sleeping.” little does he know your eyes may not be open, but your ears are still catching quite a few of his one-sided conversations.
warnings: some language
wc: 1.5k
dedicated to: @star-puff, because your Iwaizumi fluff had me riding a high for like 2 whole days & we all need him in our lives
---
Incoherent whispering. Soft, short rambles. Maybe he was sleep-talking?
At least that’s what you thought when you first heard Iwaizumi’s voice over the gentle hum of the ceiling fan and against the muted song of the cicadas buzzing outside of the bedroom window.
But as the nights passed, you began to hone in on the contents of Iwaizumi’s mumbling.
His words were… pointed. Holding an air of quiet confidence and trickling ever so gently into your ear like a lullaby. Sometimes it had to do with his day. Other times it was about how cute you’d looked that morning, still fast asleep while he was getting dressed for work.
But whatever the topic is, you’ve grown used to the conversations that he’s been having with the back of your head.
And here you are again. Lying stiff as a twig by Iwaizumi’s side and listening intently to his voice.
“I wish you’d heard what Shittykawa did today…” He rasps softly.
“...Even though he’s all the way in Argentina, literally surrounded by beaches and resorts, he still hardly takes a day off. That dumbass sprained his ankle and kept practicing for another hour.” Iwaizumi sighed, his thumb barely skimming the surface of your forearm.
If you’d actually been asleep (like he’d thought you were), you’re sure you wouldn’t have felt the brush of his fingertips. It was too delicate. Too careful.
Honestly, you’re just glad he still holds you this tenderly. Especially late at night when you’d least expect his affection. After all, you’ve not had a chance to cuddle with him in a while.
Iwaizumi had been getting home later every single day for the past few weeks and for good reason. He felt obligated to stay with Japan’s national team into the darker hours of the night as the Olympic games approached. And you admire his dedication. You’re so proud of him for chasing after his passions and it would never dawn on you to undermine his career by holding your relationship with him over his head.
But this usually meant that, by the time he cracked the bedroom door open, you two would only have a few moments to share some words and a quick kiss before tucking under the covers. You, of course, missed his voice. And he longed to hear yours.
However, as you closed your tired eyes, Iwaizumi’s would remain wide open, body and mind relentlessly processing through another intense day. You’ve never said a word to him about his shifting and deep sighs, worried that he might feel guilty for keeping you awake with him. Yet still, you feel Iwaizumi’s exhaustion in the way his weary arm drapes around your waist. There’s a tautness, a sort of tension, there.
So you do your best to remain completely still in his hold, hoping that your outward calm would bring him some inward peace. That your steady breath might lull him into a state of rest. That you could be the anchor to his rocking boat, like he’d always been for you when your life got windy and overwhelming. But even with your best, silent efforts, he stayed alert and somewhat unsteady.
That’s when the whispery words would start… and you soon came to the realization that he was talking to you.
You hear the rustle of his hair as he runs a firm hand through it. A small smile adorns your lips as he continues his line of thought, Iwaizumi’s breath wafting across the back of your neck.
“Y/n, he’s such an idiot and he won’t listen to me anymore… maybe I’ll get you to text him tomorrow. You’re so good for him and… maybe a little nicer than I am.” Iwaizumi admits.
There’s a pause and you wonder if that’s it. If that’s the end of his dialogue for the night… but there’s more this time.
“And, God y/n, I missed you today.”
The confession shakes you. Your chest tightens as you try to take it all in.
You’re pretty sure you weren’t supposed to hear that.
Those words were reserved for the most... intimate of moments. For trembling tears or reunions after long distances or maybe hot, heavy kisses after a frustrating day. But, as a general rule, you hardly ever heard those tender remarks out of the blue. After all, Iwaizumi is a man of actions and not so much a lover of words.
So this is new, to say the least. You’re dumbstruck. Your heart is beating far faster than it should be - especially since you’ve been dating him for over a year now.
However, it wasn’t just the words that stunned you. His tone was different too. Where there usually would be, there wasn’t an ounce of embarrassment in Iwaizumi’s voice. It wasn’t rushed; not bashful or heated like some of his past devotions and confessions had seemed.
Tonight’s Iwaizumi is perfectly sincere. No, not just sincere. Fond.
Fond and maybe a tad wistful. Vocal inflection isn’t exactly Iwa’s forte, at least not when it came to sweet words in passing. So this is a historical moment in your book.
Thus, you let your cheeks burn a little longer and shut your eyes a little tighter in order to hear his next words.
“And I miss your voice.” He adds, tone dropping into what seems like… longing.
Iwaizumi pulls you a little closer into his bare chest, the rise and fall breath now pushing up against your own back. He’s really pushing it now.
It feels wrong listening into a conversation when the words are meant for you, but at the same time they aren’t. Who wouldn’t be conflicted? He had clearly trusted that your closed eyes and barely moving figure meant you were deeply asleep. That you couldn’t possibly hear a word he was saying.
I mean you had to say something, right?
So you inhale quietly, preparing to insert yourself into the one-sided discussion.
“...I wish you’d said something sooner, Iwa.”
You almost startle yourself with your own voice, the once soft atmosphere of the moonlit room, turning frigid.
Iwaizumi’s whole body goes stiff, arms frozen in place. He holds his breath and the gentle tickling of air on your neck pauses with it.
You shift your head to look back at him, his eyes already peering into your own. He was red. Beet red. Enough so that you could see it in the dim light of the room. You could practically feel the heat radiating off of his neck and arms, embarrassment flooding through every inch of his body.
“How… how long have you been listening to me?” Iwaizumi whispers, voice wavering almost as though he doesn’t want to hear your answer.
You blink.
Should you only tell him about tonight?
Or would it be better to let him know that he hasn’t had a single midnight conversation this week that you hadn’t listened in on?
You opt for honesty, knowing that he would probably be able to tell if you were lying anyways.
“Everything from this past… week?” You say shyly, slinking away from him, but one of Iwaizumi’s strong arms holds you in place.
His head falls back to his pillow and the other arm covers his eyes. As many times as he’d slipped up in front of you, he’d really done it this time. You must think he’s so strange. Why was he always doing stuff like this? Of course you would hear him.
I should’ve just kept my damn mouth shut, Iwaizumi thinks, his body still being flamed by an internal furnace from all the other embarrassing things he now remembers rattling off to you in your ‘sleeping’ state.
“But I liked listening to you.” You cut in quickly, sensing his discomfort and attempting to smooth it over with gentle words.
“And we… don’t get to talk much lately. So I- I just didn’t want to say anything because… I like the sound of your voice. You’re actually very soothing, Iwa.” You’re still sleepy, so the words come out choppily... but considering the circumstances, it wasn’t the worst recovery.
If it weren’t for the blushing male in front of you, you would probably feel just as flustered by the whole situation. But somehow, you kept your cool, too focused on calming Iwaizumi down in his flushed state.
“...Y/n?”
“Yes?” You breathe out.
“Just… just come here already.” He takes his hand away from his burning face and turns toward you.
You’re immediately pulled snug against him, your front meeting his chest, legs twining around his toned ones. Iwaizumi has a hand behind your neck tucking you into the crook of his neck as he hides his face from you, chin resting softly atop your head.
“I’ll call Oikawa tomorrow.” You joke, breaking the tension.
“It’s shittykawa.” He corrects. “And please forget about everything I said.” His tone dropping, turning sour.
A humored sigh leaves your lips.
He feels your mouth smiling faintly against his collar bone, which only sends him further into this embarrassed affection for you.
You were really something.
Never making him feel bad for running late hours. Letting him crawl into bed with you way past midnight when you could easily demand more time from him. Listening to his rambles, some more crass than others, consciously without judgement.
He’d found a treasure in you. A golden, shimmering treasure that didn’t need light to be seen. You shone even under the pale, underwhelming moonlight that peered through the window blinds.
So Iwaizumi finds himself pressing a few soft kisses onto your forehead. You plant a couple lingering ones on his neck in return and he squeezes you even closer into him.
And just as the two of you begin to drift off, you decide to top the night off with a cherry of sorts.
“Iwa?”
“Yes, y/n?” His voice at a whisper, once again.
“I’ve missed you too.”

Out Of Time ~ 131
MASTERLIST
< previous chapter
Word Count: 3,805ish
Summary: The fight continues.
“Y/N? Did you do it?” Steve asked, still fighting off the creatures attacking them. No answer though. “Y/N?” Still nothing. “I need eyes on Y/N!”
“I’m heading to the lab now!” Bucky responded.
“She seems to be in a trance,” Shuri finally answered, coming up to Y/N. “Her eyes are glowing the same color as the Stone, but it’s clear she’s not really here.”
“And the Stone?” Steve wondered.
“Floating in between her hands. But I can already tell there’s a protective barrier around it. We won’t be able to get to it.”
“I’m here! I’me here!” Bucky exclaimed, running to Y/N’s side. “Shit.” He knelt in front of her, knowing not to touch her. “Steve, we’re going to have to wait this out. Waking her isn’t going to be a smart option.”
“Stay by her side then! She’s one of the few things stopping Thanos from succeeding.”
“On it.”
“I’m going to secure the lab,” Shuri stated, rushing off with the guards.
“Oh, doll,” Bucky sighed. “Where’ve you gone now?”
~~~
Y/N was kneeling in the common room of the SHIELD base she had once called home. Everything had an orange tint to it, so she knew she was in the Soul Dimension. Standing up, she observed the room. No one was there and it looked like it had those many years ago when they first had found the base. Untouched, undamaged, ready and waiting for adventure.
Confused as to why she was there, Y/N stood up and began to make her way around the base. Memories of all the good times and bad she had shared with the team crossed her mind. She had completely forgotten about the troubles in reality as she wondered, eventually finding her way to Coulson’s office. With a shaky breath, she opened the door. Looking around, she froze when her eyes saw it. Saw him.
“Hey, Y/N,” Coulson smiled. He was in a black suit, sitting against his desk. “Told you I’d always be there.”
“Phil?” Y/N gasped. “What… how… this means… you died.”
“About a week ago.” Coulson stood up straight, unbuttoning his jacket. “May should have sent you a letter. Though, I understand why you haven’t gotten in yet.”
“Why are you here?”
“Don’t know,” he shrugged. “The Stone brought me here. I immediately knew it was because of you though. What’s going on?”
“I… Thanos is coming for the Stones. I was in Wakanda, trying to destroy the Soul Stone and now I’m here.” Y/N looked around. “They told me… they warned me.”
“Who warned you? About what?”
“The Stones warned me that if I tried to stop them, they would stop me. This is them doing that.”
“Why would they do that though? Aren’t you suppose to save the universe or something?”
“I am… just not yet… people are going to die. And I won’t be able to stop it…”
“People die every day, not everyone’s deaths is your fault.”
Y/N shook her head. “This is different though, Phil. So very different.”
Coulson sighed and walked over so that he was standing in front of Y/N. “Always been so stubborn and full of heart. But instead of staying here feeling guilty about it all, before it even happens, you need to focus and beat this Stone out.” He set his hands on her shoulders, looking at her square on. “You need to get out there and help everyone else.”
“I don’t—“
“No excuses. Focus. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and focus.”
~~~
Back on Titan, the small team there was trying to recover from a moon being thrown at them. Iron Man took the biggest hit. Moon-chunks were still flying everyone, with random debris as well. Mantis, Drax, and Star-Lord were all unconscious, flying through the air. Luckily, Spider-Man was still conscious. He swung through the air, catching the unconscious Guardians.
“I got you!” Spider-Man exclaimed, webbing Mantis. “I got you!” He snagged Drax next, securing both of them to something not moving. “I’m sorry I can’t remember anybody’s names!” He then reeled in Star-Lord.
Dr. Strange and Thanos began battling each other. Both using their available powers to counter the other. After Strange duplicated himself, Thanos used the Reality and Power Stones to discover the real one. He then used the Reality and Space Stones to pull Strange forward, letting Thanos grasp him by the throat.
“You’re full of tricks, wizard,” Thanos said, reaching for the necklace holding the Time Stone.
“No!” Strange yelled as Thanos snapped the necklace from his neck.
“Yet you never once used your greatest weapon.” Thanos crushed the necklace with his bare hand. “A fake.”
Angry, Thanos threw Dr. Strange and his head hit a rock, causing him to pass out. Almost simultaneously, a red and gold device slapped into the palm of the Infinity Gauntlet, bracing the fingers open. Iron Man then made a fast and hard entrance.
“You throw another moon at me, and I’m gonna to lose it,” Tony said, clearly done with Thanos.
“Stark,” Thanos greeted.
“You know me?”
“I do. You and the girl aren’t the only one cursed with knowledge.”
“My only curse is you.”
Small rockets popped out of Iron Man’s back and launched at Thanos. The rockets all exploded on target, momentarily shrouding Thanos in smoke. Before it cleared, Iron Man pile drove into Thanos horizontally, using his single super jet boot. As he bounced off, Tony flipped and stuck the landing, immediately re-configuring his boots into ground clamps and his gloves into rocket-driven battering rams, punching Thanos into the ruined wall behind him.
Thanos shook it off quickly. He reached forward and tore Iron Man’s helmet off, revealing Tony's surprised expression before the suit recovered automatically and re-formed his head protection. Thanos made use of the delay and punched back hard, sending Tony sliding meters away and giving Thanos time to rip the brace device off the gauntlet. He immediately used the Power Stone to stream energy at Tony, who formed a shield to kneel behind just as instantly, getting pushed back even further by the incredible force.
Iron Man slid out from behind the shield, letting the angled energy push him away for a faster start, and whipped back to Thanos. Tony kicked at the Titan with his left foot, turning the boot into a ground clamp at the same time to pin the gauntlet. He kept twisting while his left glove became a ran again, slamming into Thanos’ face and cutting his cheek.
“All that for a drop of blood,” Thanos panted.
Thanos smiled before punching Iron Man, sending him pinwheeling. He then started beating him with his fists. Iron Man attempted to block the blows with his forearms, but Thanos was relentless, picking him up by the helmet and blasting his midsection with the Power Stone. The gaps in the nano tech suit were gaping, as the armor lost the ability to recover from the intensity and extent of the damage.
Iron Man landed hard from the Power blast, struggled to one knee and fired his right hand repulsor at the inexorable Thanos; the beam was easily deflected by the gauntlet. Tony got to both feet as the suit tried to complete repairs, adding the beam from his left hand as well. Thanos walked right up to him, and backhanded the incomplete helmet completely off Tony's head. He crossed his arms to block a blow from Thanos' gauntlet, and had his left hand caught over his head.
In desperation, Tony formed what's left of his right glove into a short-sword, which was also easily caught by Thanos, snapping it off clean and driving it through Tony's left side. Thanos then walked Tony back until he was sitting, and placed the gauntlet almost comfortingly on Tony’s head.
“You have my respect, Stark,” Thanos said. “When I’m done, half of humanity will still be alive.” He let go, straightened and stepped back. “I hope they remember you.”
Tony was a little distracted with the pain, blood drooling out of his mouth and compromised breathing. Thanos raised the gauntlet, closing his fist, all three of the Stones glowing.
“Wait,” Thanos said, noticing the problem. He unlisted his hand and looked at the side of the gauntlet where the Stones sat. “The Soul Stone,” he growled. He looked around, realizing that someone had been missing from he whole fight. “The girl.” He glared at Tony. “Where is she?”
“Away… from here,” Tony panted.
“AHH!” Thanos screamed, powering up the gauntlet.
“STOP!” Strange shouted. “Spare his life… and I will give you the Stone.”
“No tricks.” Strange shook his head and Thanos pointed the gauntlet at him instead.
“Don’t!” Tony pled.
Dr. Strange reached up and plucked the Time Stone out of its hiding place. His opened his tremoring hand and the Stone floated to Thanos. Strange and Tony watched as Thanos took the Stone and dropped it into the thumb setting, the energy pulse making him wince.
“Two to go,” Thanos stated.
An energy blast hit the gauntlet and Thanos grimaced in surprise. Screaming in incoherent rage, with his helmet up and firing from both hands, Quill came flying straight for Thanos. Thanos didn’t bother responding to the assault, simply using the Space Stone to disappear. Star-Lord flew through where Thanos had been and crashed, rolling several times.
“Where is he?!” Quill exclaimed, standing and de-helmeting. Tony was stitching up his stab wound with his suit. “Did we just lose?”
Tony looked at Dr. Strange, clearly saddened. “Why would you do that?” He asked.
“We’re in the Endgame now,” Strange responded.
~~~
“Focus harder, Y/N!” Coulson ordered. “The Stone is trying to keep you in here. You need to get out there and help your team.”
“I know, Phil!” Y/N responded, frustrated. She ran her hands down her face. “I know…”
“Momma!” She heard a boy’s distance cries. “Momma!”
Y/N looked up, standing front he seat she was in. “Is that… no. Impossible. He’d be just a year.”
“Age doesn’t work the same in the Soul Stone,” Coulson replied.
“Momma!” The cry was frantic, clearly something was wrong.
“AJ?” Y/N responded.
“Momma!”
“AJ!”
A little boy, probably no more than six, came barreling into the room. He quickly latched onto Y/N and she bent down to hold onto him.
“AJ,” she whispered, a tear slipping down her cheek. She pulled back and knelt down, cupping his cheeks. “You’re so big.” He was the perfect mix of Y/N and Tony.
“There’s a problem, momma,” the little boy told her, trying to catch his breath.
“A problem? What’s the problem?”
“With daddy! He’s in trouble.”
“Dad? What’s wrong with Tony?”
“Thanos hurt him and now Thanos is headed for Earth. You have to do something.”
“I will, sweetheart,” she pressed a kiss to his head. “I will. Can you do something for me, AJ?”
“Of course, momma.”
Y/N couldn’t help but smile at her son. “Stay with Uncle Phil, okay? He’ll take care of you while I can’t. And don’t worry about me or your dad. I’m going to fix this.”
“Okay, momma.”
“Your momma and daddy love and miss you so much, you know that right?”
“I do,” the little boy nodded. “I love you too.”
Y/N gave a teary eyes, tight lipped smile. “That’s a good boy. You go stand back with Uncle Phil, alright?”
“Alright momma.”
She stood up as her son hurried over to Coulson. Her and Coulson made eye-contact. “Take care of him.”
“Are you kidding?” Coulson smiled, picking up AJ. “I’ve always wanted to be Uncle Phil. Now, focus.”
Y/N nodded, taking a deep breath. She held her hands in front of her, palms up, as she closed her eyes. She could feel the Stone pushing against her, wanting to keep her there. But she wouldn’t let it, she had to be stronger. Focusing on the need to leave and the power surrounding her, Y/N began to channel it. Quickly, she could feel the power building inside her, begging to be let free.
“Keep going momma!” She could hear AJ cheer.
Y/N took in as much power as she could, before she felt like she would explode. Opening her eyes, she looked at Phil and AJ. They were both taken back my the incredibly amber shade Y/N’s eyes had taken, but they knew it was the Stones.
“Don’t let him forget me,” she told Phil.
“Never,” he responded.
With one last look at her son, Y/N closed her eyes and turned away. Letting out a painfully scream, the power inside her blasted out, cracking the inner walls of the Soul Stone.
~~~
“Bucky!” Steve called. “How’s it going up there?”
“She hasn’t moved, Steve,” Bucky responded with a shake of his head. “She’s— wait.” Bucky looked closer at the Stone floating between her palms. “The Stones cracking. She’s doing it!”
“Let me know when she’s done.”
“Come on, Y/N,” Bucky muttered. “You can do it, doll.”
As the Stone shattered into pieces, falling onto the ground, Y/N shouted out in pain. Her hands found the floor, stabilizing her from falling on her face.
“Oh my— Steve, she did it,” Bucky told the others, pulling Y/N into his chest. “She destroyed the Stone.”
“Good,” Steve replied. “Now you two need to get down here and help us hold them from getting Vision.”
Bucky held Y/N close, pressing a kiss to her hair. “You did it, doll.” He rocked them. “You did it.”
“Bucky…” she whispered, pushing away to see his face. “I—“
“Everyone, on my position,” Steve directed over the comms. “We have incoming.”
“What the hell?” Nat wondered.
“Cap,” Bruce said, “that’s him.”
“Eyes up,” Steve ordered. “Stay sharp.”
“Get us down there, Y/N,” Bucky said. “We have to help them.”
Arriving through a portal, ready to fight, Y/N and Bucky watched as Steve didn’t even get to strike before he was set back by purple energy from the Power Stone. T’Challa tried next. His armor was fully charged, kinetically, and he leaped high, claws extended. He was easily grabbed by the throat and punched to the ground, his armor discharging violently. Falcon was next, swooping in, but was stopped when his wings became rubbery and unable to sustain flight.
As Rhodey tried to stop Thanos next, Y/N noticed Vision and Wanda off to the side. Vision was kneeling before Wanda as she was channeling her energy towards the Mind Stone. Bucky rushed up to Thanos next, only to be punched away by the Power Stone. With a shaky breath, Y/N stood in front of Thanos.
“There you are, my little one,” Thanos smirked. “You took something from me.”
“It wasn’t yours to keep,” you responded.
“You know, the Stones warned me about a person able to channel them and use them to destroy me. I just didn’t imagine them like… this.”
“And I didn’t imagine you purple, but I guess we all have our disappointments.”
“I know what you did with the Soul Stone. You're foolish to think that could possibly stop me.”
“You’re foolish to think I can’t.”
Channeling the Stones, Y/N began to fling debris and rocks at the Titan. Only for him to block and destroy them before he was hit, also by using the Stones. Okoye flung a spear at Thanos as Y/N tried to keep him distracted. Unfortunately, Thanos was still able to throw both Okoye and the spear to the side, all while fighting Y/N and wrapping Natasha in bands of Earth. Groot tried to use the roots to stop the Titan, but Thanos easily broke them as he blocked Y/N’s assaults.
Finding a lucky moment of weakness, Thanos was able to fling Y/N across the clearing. He marched over there, ready to punch her, but Steve slid under his fist. The Captain screamed as he tried to hold Thanos off. Thanos, though, slammed his other fist into Steve’s head, rendering him insensible.
“Steve,” Y/N muttered, crawling over to her brother. She gently shook him. “Steve, come on.” Nothing.
Panting and aching, Y/N looked up just in time to see Wanda holding back Thanos while finishing off the Mind Stone. Y/N gasped sharply as a pain rolled over her whole body. Thanos walked closer to Wanda as their energies subsided and Vision fell over, lifeless.
“I understand, my child,” Thanos said. “Better than anyone.”
“You could never,” she snarled.
He reached down, stroking her hair. “Today, I lost more than you can know. But now is no time to mourn. Now… is no time at all.”
He reached forward, clenching the gauntlet. The Time Stone glowed and flowed green energy around his fist. In response, time began to reverse. Y/N could feel the Soul Stone and Mind Stone repairing themselves.
“No,” she gasped. Trying to stand up, she watched as the Mind Stone and Vision became intact and conscious once again.
“No!” Wanda screamed, lunging for Vision before she was swatted away.
Thanos picked up Vision by the throat, lifting him to eye level before digging his hand into Vision’s forehead and yanking out the Mind Stone. He pulled it loose and Vision immediately went limp and colorless. Y/N tried to run over there, only to be knocked down by Thanos tossing Vision at her.
Setting the Mind Stone in place, Y/N noticed the Soul Stone appearing in front of Thanos. Angrily, Y/N portaled in front of him.
“There’s nothing you can do to stop me now, my child,” Thanos smirked.
“Doesn’t mean I can’t try,” Y/N responded.
She opened a small portal, using it to grab the Soul Stone before Thanos could. Thanos growled as his hand swiped over where hers just disappeared. Before Y/N could do anything, suddenly she was wrapped up in roots and slammed against a large tree. She groaned at the impact she took, especially where her head was concerned. Thanos marched over, chuckling darkly.
“You can’t over power me, even with the Stones on your side,” Thanos said.
Taking a shaky breath, Y/N tried to channel the Stones to get free. Her breath hitched as she could feel the Stones but they wouldn’t let her use them.
“We told you this had to happen,” the Stones taunted her thoughts. “We told you that we would stop you.”
Y/N breathed shakily as Thanos used the power of the gauntlet on her. She screamed out in pain as her had was forced open and the Soul Stone was freed. Thanos smirked as he took the Stone and put it back in place. The energy surge from the gauntlet caused Thanos to bellow and Y/N to cry out in pain again. She could feel it all, but not access the power. Tears built up in her eyes as she met Thanos’.
“I’m so sorry, my child,” he said, not sounding sincere at all. “I wish there was another way.”
He lifted the gauntlet at Y/N, powering it up. Bracing herself, she clenched her eyes shut and turned away. But before Thanos could blast her, a bolt of lightning strikes him, digging him into the ground and grinding him back. Thor arrived, eyes glowing with power. He raised his new ax above his head and hurled it at the Titan. Thanos fired with the whole might of the gauntlet against it, but it didn’t slow the ax. The ax slammed right into Thanos’ chest. Thor landed in front of Thanos.
“I told you,” he growled. “You’d die for that!”
Thor took hold of the back of Thanos’ head and forced his ax in deeper. He stared at Thanos angrily as the Titan cried out in pain.
“You should have…” Thanos said weakly. “You… You should have gone for the head.” He lifted up the gauntlet and snapped his fingers.
“NO!” Thor screamed.
Y/N let out a scream that sounded that she was dying, cause she sure felt like it. She could feel the Stones working together to complete Thanos’ plan.
“What’d you do?” Thor asked. “WHATD YOU DO?!”
Y/N cried as Thanos used the Space Stone and disappeared. She was still suck on the tree. Steve stumbled into the clearing, holding his left side.
“Where’d he go?” Steve asked. “Thor… where’d he go?”
“Steve?” Bucky called, coming into the clearing. “Y/N?”
Bucky and Y/N made eye contact as he suddenly stumbled over and collapsed into ashes. Steve, in shock, walked over and touched the ground where Bucky’s ashes were.
“BUCKY!” Y/N screamed. “NO!”
Letting out a loud, sorrowful cry, the roots holding Y/N to the tree burned off her and she fell to her knees. She could feel the Stones letting her access them again, almost in a taunting way. With heaving breaths, Y/N lifted her head up and watched Wanda, Sam, Groot, and T’Challa all disappear, turning into ash like Bucky.
“NO!” She screamed again, unleashing a wave of power from her that rippled across the battlefield. “No….” She whispered.
~~~
On Titan, the team was collecting themselves. Mantis propped up Star-Lord, Spider-Man helped Tony to his feet, while Drax and Nebula managed to limp over on their own.
“Something’s happening,” Mantis said before disintegrating into ashes.
Quill looked behind him to see Drax disintegrate.
“Quill?” Drax said as he dissolved.
Quill stared in horror as he turned back to Tony, who was starting to panic.
“Steady, Quill,” Tony told him.
“Aw, man,” Quill said, also disintegrating.
“Tony,” Strange called calmly, “there was no other way.” Then he disappeared as well.
“Mr. Stark?” Peter said, realizing he was fading away. Tony stared, horrified. “I don’t feel so good…”
“You’re alright,” Tony said, trying to be calm but his voice was shaking and he was looking at Peter in terror.
Peter was stumbling towards Tony, terrified. “I don’t know what’s— I don’t know what’s happening. I don’t—“ He fell into Tony’s arms, clutching him tight while beginning to cry. “I don’t wanna go, I don’t wanna go, Mr. Stark, please. Please, I don't wanna go. I don't wanna go… I’m sorry.”
And then Peter turned to ash in Tony’s arms. Tony fell forward from the lack of weight in his arms, staring at his hands in disbelief.
“He did it,” Nebula stated.
~~~
Steve, Thor, Rhodey, Nat, Bruce, and Rocket were all mourning near Vision’s dead body. Y/N was still on her knees beneath the tree, holding and rocking herself as she cried.
“What is this?” Rhodey asked. “What the hell is happening?”
“… oh, God.”

So the weekly prompt on the discord was “Shake It Up” and this fic fits that in a few ways. I’ve had it sitting unfinished for a few months, so I finally decided to finish it as a LW, which was something that I didn’t have much experience in (it would have been my first, but a conversation in the creators’ lounge led to me getting super excited over another idea and LWing that one the day before I finished this one). Also, I mostly write angst, so I wanted to focus on one of my fluff pieces this week. I didn’t edit it as much as I would have liked, but I’m still pretty satisfied with the results.
Anyway, enjoy a Four sickfic with a side of dad!Time.
~~~
“Hey Four, are you feeling okay?”
Hyrule’s concerned statement caught Time’s attention. Turning toward the back of the group, he caught a glimpse of Four’s slightly startled expression. “I’m… fine, why do you ask?”
“You’ve been lagging behind a bit, are you tired? I’m sure we can rest if you need.”
Four waved him off. “I’ve just got a slight headache and I’m a bit dizzy, there’s not much you can do about that and it’ll probably be fine soon enough anyway.”
Hyrule didn’t look convinced, but relented, opting instead to walk alongside the smithy. “Alright, but if you need anything, I’m sure we’d all be willing to stop.”
“He’s right,” Time called back from the front of the group. “We’d rather you be feeling alright than have you burn yourself out.”
“I know, but it’s not worth stopping for. Really, I’m fine, we can keep going.”
Time didn’t miss the slight hesitation in his voice, but let it slide, and the group continued on. Every so often, he could hear Hyrule checking up on Four, but his exact response was lost over the din of the group. He trusted that the traveler could keep a close eye on Four and gauge whether he was able to continue or not.
Sure enough, after only a couple hours Hyrule called up to Time at the front of the group. “We need to stop for the night, Four needs to rest.”
“What, I’m fine, what are you talking about…”
“Four…” Sky whispered, gentle concern in his voice, “I know you want to keep going, but... you’re really not.”
Time only had to take one look at Four to see what they were referencing. He was incredibly pale, and even from this distance Time could tell he was shivering, despite how warm it was outside. Despite his insisting words, he was leaning almost entirely onto Hyrule, unable to stand on his own.
Despite this, he persisted. “No, it’s fine, we’re not too far, I can make it.” But even as he said this, he pressed himself further into Hyrule, the other boy wrapping his arm around the shivering smithy.
The group had stopped walking at this point, all of them looking at him with concern. Time made his way toward Four, laying a gentle hand on his shoulder. “I know you don’t want to slow us down, but we’d rather stop and let you rest before trying to continue. Are you willing to stop for now?”
The teen was silent for a few moments, and Time thought he would continue to fight, but he eventually muttered a small “alright, if… if you insist.”
Time nodded, then turned to address the rest of the group. “We’ll stop here for now. Let’s make camp and settle in for the night. I know it’s early, but the sooner we let Four rest, the sooner he’ll be better.”
They all nodded, grabbing their gear from Epona and setting up for the evening. As Hyrule walked by, Time grabbed his sleeve. “Would you mind staying with Four and looking after him tonight? I’d feel best if he wasn’t left to do his own thing.”
He nodded. “I can’t stay up all night with him, but I’ll keep an eye on him until night falls.”
“That’s fine, whoever is on watch can check on him occasionally, but I want someone making sure he doesn’t try anything stupid until he falls asleep. He’s smart, but he’s also just as stubborn as the rest of us, and probably doesn’t like the fact that we had to stop for him. He needs to rest, otherwise he won’t be ready to keep moving.”
Hyrule nodded, then made his way over to Wild, who was digging through his bag beside Epona. A few whispered words were exchanged, then Wild pressed a piece of flint and some firewood into Hyrule’s arms. He took a few steps away toward a clear piece of earth, and within moments a small blaze was crackling gently.
Returning to Four, he gently grasped the smaller boy’s arm and led him over to the fire, sitting him down closeby. Despite his earlier words, Four didn’t protest, only curling in on himself and leaning closer to the warmth.
Sky walked past, shrugging off his sailcloth and wrapping it around the smithy, earning him a grateful look. Twilight did similarly with his pelt, then Warriors with his scarf and Wild with his cloak, until Four was buried under a pile of warmth.
The evening proceeded mostly as normal, the notable exception being Hyrule’s insistence that he help Four eat. Four probably would have rolled his eyes and turned down the help, except for that fact that he was both too weak to lift his bowl, and that his hands were still trapped under all the fabric.
As the sun started to set, his head began to bob as he started nodding off by the fire.
Hyrule was quick to notice this. “Come on, it’s late and you need rest. Let’s get you to bed.”
“Wait.” They both turned at Legend’s voice, watching him dig through his bag. “I’ve got just the thing in here that should help- aha!” Pulling out a small bottle, he tossed it to Hyrule. “This won’t get rid of whatever he’s dealing with, but it should help it pass quicker.”
Hyrule nodded, letting Four down the potion before helping him take off his tunic and settle into the pile of blankets the others had set up for him.
The others, taking this as the cue that the day was over, began settling into their own bedrolls, Hyrule placing himself by the fire to keep the first watch.
~~~
When Warriors had woken him up, he'd said that his watch was uneventful, and a few hours later, Time was finding his own to be similar. Good. It would be best to have an easy night, Four definitely needed rest.
And speaking of Four…
Time leaned over and shook Sky gently, waiting a few moments for him to wake up.
“My turn?”
“Yup.”
He nodded, reaching for his gear and beginning to slip it on. “Alright. How’s Four doing?”
“I was about to check on him. Keep an eye on things, would ya?”
“Of course.”
With that, Time stood, walking over to his blankets and stripping off his armor. Dropping it beside the rest of his gear, he carefully picked his way through the tangle of bodies until he could kneel down at the smithy’s side.
The boy was restless, tossing and turning every few seconds. His shivering had stopped hours prior, but where his skin was once pale, it was now flushed a deep red. His breathing was slightly strained, and when Time put his palm against his forehead, he almost flinched at how hot it burned.
Legend’s potion seemed to be working though. Already a thin sheen of sweat beaded his skin, indicating that his fever had broken. If it continued at this pace, he’d probably be well by morning.
Time was almost too caught up in his thoughts to see Four’s eyes flutter open, glazed over as he glanced at the older man. He started slightly as Four shifted under his hand, moaning slightly as he turned his neck to face Time.
“Hey kid, how are you feeling?”
He mumbled something incoherent, but before Time could ask for clarification, he began to sit up, whining softly as his body protested the movement.
“Whoa, whoa, easy there, it’s been a rough day for you.”
“...”
“Pardon?”
“I have to get up.”
“No you don’t, you need to keep resting, besides it’s late.”
“I can’t, you always complain when I sleep in late and you have to start up the forge without me.”
...now Time was confused. Was Four delirious? Did he think he was talking to someone else?
As quick as he could, Time racked his brain. Four had mentioned the forge, which meant there was someone he worked with as a blacksmith. The only other blacksmith Four had ever mentioned had been-
Oh Hylia, Four had mistaken Time for his grandfather.
“Wait, Four, I’m not-”
Time paused. Four always spoke of his grandfather so affectionately, but also with a tinge of sadness. Despite his experience being away from home, it was clear that the long separation from his only family member was difficult for him.
He certainly wasn’t any less capable or mature than the others but… he was still a kid, far from home and missing his family. Maybe it wouldn’t be too bad to fib a little this one time. Besides, he wasn’t likely to remember it anyway.
Lowering himself fully to the ground, Time grasped Four’s hand in his own. “Don’t worry about it, Link. I can manage on my own, you go back to sleep so you get better.”
Four looked conflicted. “Are you sure? I may not be at my best, but I can still help out a bit. I’m probably gonna have trouble falling asleep again anyway.”
“It’s fine. Lay back down, and I’ll stay with you until you’re asleep again.”
“No, it’s fine! You can go get things started for t-”
“Link. It’s fine, I want to help you.”
Four hesitated, and Time thought he would keep fighting, but after a few moments, he relented. “O-okay then, I guess if you don’t mind.”
Time nodded, expecting him to lay back down as he had been before.
But Four apparently had other plans, and decided to turn and curl up right next to the older man, slinging one arm around his waist as he settled beside him.
Time stiffened, but Four’s tension quickly began to disappear as he relaxed into Time’s side. He was about to say something, or subtly move Four off of him, but then-
“Thanks grandpa.”
-and Time’s heart melted a little, and there was no chance that he could move away now. Wrapping an arm around Four, he gently lowered them both onto the ground, him laying flat and Four’s body resting on his own, blankets strewn around them. Four hummed softly, pressing his ear to Time’s chest, letting his echoing heartbeat soothe him, and Time couldn’t help but imagine that this was what it was like to have a child, to be a father. To have a child. He and Malon hadn’t had that opportunity yet, but since he’d met them, these boys were his sons.
He couldn’t deny it- that was what they were to him. As mature and capable as they all were, they would always have that place in his heart.
Time was silent, trying to comprehend the wave of emotion that was crashing over him, when Four hoarsely spoke up.
“...I don’t feel great.”
He chuckled softly, conscious of how Four bounced with the movement of his chest and not wanting to disturb him. “You had a pretty bad fever, you need to rest and you’ll feel better in the morning.”
“...I can’t wait to get better so I can introduce you to my friends, they’re really nice people.”
Oh, this will be interesting. “I can’t wait to meet them, they sound wonderful.”
Four nodded, curling further into Time’s side. “They are. We’re always looking out for each other, and despite everything they’ve been through, they’re some of the sweetest, softest people you'll ever meet.” He paused. “Being with the other guys… it’s kinda like when I was four… being in a group is nice, ‘cause I don’t have to be alone.”
Time wasn’t sure what had happened when the boy was four years old, but it was probably good, given how fondly he was speaking of it.
“They’re really crazy and wild, and some of ‘em are pretty hotheaded, but they all care about each other… and me.” Time couldn’t see his face, but he could hear the smile in Four’s voice. “Especially Time, he’s really great. He acts all stoic and serious but…” His voice dropped to a whisper. “I don’t remember dad much, but… I imagine that he was something like Time, always so loving and caring, always looking out for us. We’re not blood related, but he’s… he’s like our dad, you know?” His head drooped as he began to nod off again, not noticing the emotion he was causing in Time. “He’s a really good dad, too…”
Time was not crying. He was not.
“Anyway, I can’t wait for you to see them. I think you’ll love them too.” He yawned, the last of the tension leaving his body. “...g’night grandpa. I love you.”
...okay maybe he was crying. “...goodnight Link. I love you too.”
~~~
Time woke to the feeling of Four stirring beside him. Lifting his head, he cracked his eye open to see the smithy blinking at him, eyes still bleary with sleep. “T-Time?” he croaked out. He coughed a bit, voice hoarse from sickness and disuse. “What- where…?”
“You were sick, remember? We stopped to let you rest.” Leaning over, he rested his hand on Four’s temple, noting with pleasure how much it had cooled overnight, with only a bit of sweat still covering his skin.
He blinked, squinting as he tried to recall the previous night. “...oh.” He glanced at Time, a tense look on his face as he reached for his gear. “Uh, I didn’t say or do anything weird, did I? I have a tendency to get pretty delirious when I have a fever.”
“...you were a bit… affectionate, but that’s it about it.”
“Oh.” He relaxed a little, fingering the stitching of his tunic before pulling it over his head. “That’s good, because I tend to ramble about weird things when I’m sick, so I didn’t want to confuse any of you or something.”
Time nodded, glancing to where Wild was dishing up food from a cooking pot over the fire. “It looks like breakfast is ready, do you want me to grab you some?”
“No, I can get it, I’m-” Four stood, only to wobble and fall back onto his knees. “...okay maybe that would help.”
Time chuckled, reaching over to ruffle Four’s hair. “Stay here and get yourself a bit more awake, I’ll bring you something.”
He stood, but was distracted by a small noise from Four. He turned, noting the contemplative look on the smith’s face, and kneeled down beside him.
“Are you alright?”
“Huh?” He glanced up, realizing that Time was still watching. “Uh, yeah, I’m fine, just thinking about something.” He paused, hands clenched in his blanket. “Last night, I- did you… I had this dream that…” His gaze dropped to his lap, watching his fingers twist his blanket into knots. “...nevermind, it’s probably nothing.” He smiled gently as he glanced back up. “Thanks for all your help.”
Time nodded, rising off the ground to check what Wild was cooking.
As he was walking away, he heard Four mumble something behind him.
He glanced back over his shoulder, noting the way Four’s cheeks were red and he was refusing to meet Time’s eye. “Pardon?”
His blush deepened before he met Time’s gaze with a soft look in his eyes. His response was a soft whisper, but Time heard it clear as day.
“Thanks, dad.”
~Bonus~
They emerged from the portal, looking around to see if any of them recognized the area.
All of them except Four, who immediately let out a surprised cheer.
“This is the Minish Woods! We’re not too far from my house, we can head there to rest up.”
Time nodded. “Lead on then, the sooner we’re there, the sooner we can plan our next move.”
Four grinned, grabbing the closest hand- Wild’s- and dragging it down the path between the trees.
“We landed right by the entrance of the woods, and it’s only a short walk from there, hurry up!”
They hurried after him, amused by his excitement, until they reached the door of a lone house.
Four didn’t hesitate, opting to throw it open and yell “Grandpa, I’m home!”
...no response came.
Four frowned, eyes searching the room, before walking into a side room, calling out for his grandfather again.
He returned to the main room, a concerned look on his face. “I don’t understand, he’s normally here, working in the forge, I don’t know why-”
“Of course it’s when I decide to leave for just a few minutes that my grandson comes home.”
Four’s face split into the biggest grin imaginable as he raced forward and tackled the man in the doorway.
“Good to see you again kid, but where have you been, young man?”
Four giggled, pulling back slightly and wiping a few tears off his cheeks. “The same old hero-ing, you know how it is.”
“Of course I do, it took you away from home for long enough when you were young. Well-” he glanced at the others, who were watching the reunion from a respectful distance. “Younger, at least. Younger than these boys, by any means. I’m assuming these are the ones you’ve been writing me so many letters about?”
Four nodded eagerly, stepping back and gesturing for the others to come closer. “Yeah! These are my friends that I’ve wanted you to meet.”
The introductions went smoothly, with a few rolled eyes (Legend when Four called him a hoarder) and shy looks (Wild when Four referred to him as a pyro).
And then Four got around to introducing Time.
“This is…” Four blushed, his gaze dropping to his shuffling feet. “This is… well, he’s the responsible one of the group, kinda like… the dad. He’s the one doing his best to keep us from doing something stupid.”
Smith- as he’d asked them to call him- laughed, extending a hand toward Time. “Well, it’s nice to see that there’s someone keeping an eye out for my boy.”
Time smiled, clasping his outstretched arm and shaking firmly. “He does that well enough on his own, actually. If anything, he helps me keep the other wild ones in line.”
“Well, you’ve only seen what’s happened when he’s alone. If there were four just like him, well, that’d be-”
“Aaaaaand that’s enough of that story! I’m sure we can have time for stuff like that later,” Four cut in, cheeks red. “They, uh, don’t need to know that kind of stuff, grandpa.”
“Oh, you’ve been pretty mature around them, haven’t you? They haven’t seen your… colorful side, have they?”
Four pouted. “No, they haven’t seen it yet, and I don’t feel like changing that right now.”
Smith chuckled, wrapping his arm around Four’s shoulder. “Well, that’s too bad. All the same, I missed you, kid.”
Four sighed, leaning into his grandfather’s embrace, a content smile on his face. “I missed you too, grandpa.”
Notes: I want to thank everyone that reached out to say how much they enjoy this series and that they wanted to keep reading it. It meant a lot and I read each comment, ask and reblog. You guys are the absolute best!!! I’m not sure if I tell you that enough, but I truly love all my readers and followers. So with that being said, here’s part 10. Happy Reading to all!
You were feeling quite better after your little tryst with Mat at the stadium. In fact, if you were being honest, he'd made you forget about anyone else that you'd been with since the bubble. Well maybe not everyone, but you were definitely feeling like your old self again. Grabbing a glass of wine, you drew a bubble bath so that you could just soak your cares away. You even lit a couple of candles to give the room that nice glow. As you sunk into the warm water, you could feel all the stress of the last several weeks, just melting away. That was until your phone rang.
You grabbed it off the side of the tub, flipping it over to see Tyler's name. When his number had popped up the last couple of days, you'd hit decline. However, this time you accepted his facetime. "Hey, Ty."
"(Y/N), baby, where have you been? Are you dodging me on purpose?"
"No, I would never." The lie slipped easily off your tongue. It wasn't that you were avoiding Tyler. It was just that you needed some time, and apparently Mat Barzal to get back to yourself. Maybe if Tyler was here, it would've been him to do that, but he wasn't; he was in Edmonton. "I've just been super busy here, though Carly convinced me to take the day off."
"Well, you deserve the day off. Though I thought you were avoiding me, now that you can't win that bet."
Ugh, sometimes you hated how cocky he was. "Are you sure I lost?"
A look of betrayal crossed his face and it had you regretting saying anything. "Are you saying you slept with Crosby?"
"That's for me to know."
"And for me to try and find out." He finished the thought for you.
"I thought you wanted to cancel that bet anyhow." You distinctly remember him saying something about that in one of your conversations. "Or now that the Pens are out, is it a different story?"
"No, I'm still for canceling it. I don't see why we both can't win." There was a twinkle in his eye and you had to wonder what he meant.
"Do I even want to know what you're thinking?"
"Hear me out," he said bringing the phone a bit closer to his face and you had to laugh at the seriousness you saw there. "What if the next time we're together, it's just not a twenty-four-hour thing? What if it's a lot longer than that?"
"What exactly are you asking Ty?"
"I don't know. That maybe we just sort of, spend more time together. I miss you."
His sad little puppy dog eyes were getting to you, but you still found yourself saying. "But we're friends with benefits, Ty. We've always been that."
"Well…maybe we should change that." Oh well, this was new, though you weren't sure how he wanted to change it. Most of the year you lived in two separate countries. And this year, who knew when he would be back in Canada. He may end up having to stay in the states.
"And how would we do that Ty? We're literally in two separate places."
"Well, if we're still in the playoffs when things transfer over to Edmonton, why don't you come here and we can talk about what we want to do then."
This is definitely a conversation that you wanted to have face to face, and not over facetime. "And what if you're not in the finals?"
"Wow you have no faith in me, do you?" Ugh, you regretted saying that but you wanted to know what the alternative was, especially if you still were in the bubble and he was out. At any rate, I'll fly straight from here to Toronto to be with you. I figure I could just stay in your suite until the bubble is done. " It would probably work since he was already inside of it in Edmonton.
"You seemed to have it all planned out. Don't you?" You needed time to think about this, after all this was Tyler and you weren't sure the man was capable of doing a full-blown relationship, or if you even wanted to.
"I mean…yeah kind of."
"Are you sure you're not saying this, just because you're lonely and I'm the only one that will listen?" While things had seemed different with him over the last couple of weeks, you were still a bit skeptical of his motives. Besides, you weren't sure what kind of spell Sidney had weaved on you but you'd just gotten over that or had you, and to give that kind of power to Tyler could be deadly.
"Look, I'm going, to be honest. There are a few women here that I could be with, but I was thinking about this, you and me, long before I was trapped in this bubble. I told you before you're the only woman that could make me settle down." There was a seriousness not only to the tone of his voice but also the look on his face. You wondered what yours was giving away, and tried to mask your features.
"Well, I think this is something we should talk about, but definitely in person." At least this would let you stall so you could decide what you actually wanted to do, and you could still have some more fun while you were in the bubble. "So I'll agree to you either coming here or me going there once the conference finals come around."
"That's all I can ask for, baby." His cute smile was definitely a turn-on and mentally you put that in the pro column for possibly being in a relationship with him. "Hey, where are you? Because it looks like you don't have a top on?" And that right there was what went on the con side.
"I'm in the tub, remember I said before Carly convinced me to take the day off."
"Oh, I definitely should've been more observant before," he stated his eyebrows raising up. "So, um…why don't you shift that camera down a little lower." You were waiting for him to say that, but you really didn't mind. Your times with Tyler were always fun and you were sure this would be no different. You found yourself moving the phone, just enough to show him that you were covered in bubbles though a taut nipple did peak out. "Mmm, what I wouldn't give to be in that tub with you. Those bubbles are lucky son of a bitches for getting to caress your skin the way they are."
"And where and what might you be doing?"
"Same place I always am, laying on my bed, just dreaming of you, but now I get to actually see you and it makes things so much better." He could be such a smooth talker at times. "Why don't you slide that one hand down baby. Just like if I was there." It was easy to just listen to his directions. His voice and the warm relaxing water turning you on. "You know I'd run my hands all over your body until I could slip it between your beautiful pussy." The fact that he could do these things to you over the phone, made you long for when one of you would be out of this bubble and you could make it a reality. "Just glide a finger back and forth between your cunt baby." A sigh left your lips. "That's it, just like it was my hand doing it. Now, rub your clit. I know how that turns you on. Just slow circles, babe, not too fast. Can't have you cumming just yet."
"Mmm…it feels so good Ty."
"Wanna rub it a little faster for me?" His breath hitched as he spoke the words and you obeyed his words with ease. "Slide a finger inside, babe."
"OOOhhh," you moaned out, your head going back and water starting to slosh around as your hips jerked up.
"That's it…god your so gorgeous." Water dripped off your skin, as you grew flush from the heated water and your ministrations, and you could only imagine what you looked like as you tried to hold the phone steady and not drop it in the tub. "Let it slide in and out of that pussy." Your fingers followed his command. You could tell that he was stroking his cock, as his free arm came in and out of view of the screen when he pumped it. It turned you on even more, as you worked your pussy over. "Are you getting close babe?"
"Yes," your voice now echoing off the bathroom walls.
"Press your thumb on your clit." He knew the action would make you cum quickly, so he must have been close as well.
"Fuck, Ty." Though you'd already had one orgasm earlier, your legs felt that familiar tingle as your second one of the day started to build.
"That's it, baby, keep going. Cum for me."
"Oh…yes…Oh," a mixture of incoherent moans came out of your lips, as you started to climax. You could hear water, spill over to the floor, but you didn't care.
"Fuck (Y/N)," you heard Tyler say and you could tell he was cumming with you. There was silence on the line for several heartbeats as the two of you both tried to recover. "God, I have never seen anything more beautiful than when you cum."
"I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not."
"What? Of course, it is." He sounded offended by your comment. "Why wouldn't it be?"
"Well maybe because it seems like I'm not beautiful other times."
"(Y/FullN), you are the most stunning person I have ever seen and it doesn't matter if you have nine hundred layers on or nothing at all. I will tell you that you're the most beautiful woman in the world, every day if you let me." He was definitely trying to score points now and you had to say it was working.
Now, you kind of felt like you were fishing for a compliment. "Ok, I take it back." You said with a giggle. "You know, you're pretty amazing yourself there."
He shrugged his shoulders. "Yeah, I know."
"And conceited," you teased.
"It's not conceited, it's confidence baby." You rolled your eyes, but you supposed it was true. The man was so sure of himself that it practically oozed out of his pores, though you knew that deep down he still needed reassurances as we all did.
"Ok, Mr. Confidence, well this girl needs to get out of the water now that I'm officially a wrinkled prune."
"I'm not stopping you. Just keep the phone where I can see you." You shook your head, but still somehow managed to get out of the tub and dried off with him still on FaceTime. The two of you stayed up for the next couple of hours just talking about anything and everything. For once in his life, Tyler held nothing back from you and by the end of the night, he knew that you'd been fooling around with some of the guys that were in the hotel, but he didn't seem to care. All that mattered to him was that in the end, he still had a shot with you. It was refreshing and not the Tyler you were used to. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you started to wonder if things with him could really work out in the long run.
The next morning, you woke up invigorated from your day off. Carly had known exactly what you needed and you headed downstairs bright and early to thank her, only to be sidetracked by Logan. "(Y/N), thank god you're here. The place is a disaster. I don't know what to do."
This was not what you needed to walk into after your day off, but knowing Logan it was probably some minor problem that you could fix in a minute; two if there was an actual problem. "Calm down. Take a deep breath. I'm sure whatever it is we can solve the problem in no time." He did as you said and you could see the tension just roll off his body. "Now, tell me what's wrong."
"There's a busted water pipe on floor eighteen and it's flooded one room and going into another, but you're right it's not that big of a deal."
"NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL! Jesus, Logan, why didn't you say the hotel is falling apart." You quickly wiped out your phone as you headed up to the eighteenth floor, calling maintenance as you went. Luckily, they were already shutting off the water by the time you got there. "What the hell happened? This is practically a brand-new hotel." The pipes barely had dust on them, let alone rust or anything that could corrode them. The room where the pipe had busted was a complete disaster. There was water everywhere, down the walls, completely soaked into the mattress, even in the ceiling. Wait, now that you looked at the ceiling there was a huge hole in it. Who's room was this? The eighteenth floor was one of the ones the Canes were staying on, so it had to be one of them. They were a rowdy bunch, but you thought they kept their antics on the ice.
"We shut the water off, (Y/N)." Frank one of the maintenance men told you. "But it's gonna take a day or two, to fix it, as we don't have the supplies here. I'll have to shut it off to the other two rooms next to it as well. Luckily, the damage seems to be only in this room."
"Thanks, Frank, I owe you one for getting it shut off so quick. Have Carly help you get whatever you need. She's good at putting a rush on things."
"Will do." You looked around surveying the damage. There would have to be new furniture put in this room as it was utterly destroyed, along with the carpeting and the bedding. And then you spotted it. A hockey stick laying on top of the bed, the end coated in plaster.
Some of the players had gathered outside and if you hadn't been in such a rush to get here, you would've looked at the room number for who to go after. After your relaxing day yesterday, today was turning into a disaster. Carly, somehow pushed her way through several hulking men to get to you. "Frank just told me." Her eyes got big as saucers as she took in the damage. "Holy fuck." Those words seemed adequate. You grabbed her by the shoulder and she seemed to shake herself out of a stupor.
"What room number is this?"
"Eighteen twenty-three." Slowly you turned around looking for the guilty culprit, and there he was, all six foot four of him standing there in saturate clothes and looking quite sheepishly. Joel Edmundson, the crop top king, if you recalled from your conversation yesterday with Carly. The only thing was he wasn't the only one that was drenched, standing beside him were Dougie Hamilton and Andrei Svechnikov. "Just breathe," Carly whispered. "Getting upset will do nothing, plus you've got bigger problems."
"Bigger problems, then a gaping hole in a roof with water soaking the room."
She shrugged her shoulder innocently. "Well, if Frank is right and we're going to need a couple days to fix this. You need to find three rooms in what's already a completely booked hotel." Damnit, she was right. You were already at max capacity and didn't have a room to spare. You realized that it was a great opportunity for the hotel when they'd been chosen to host the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but you were really starting to wonder if the NHL had a personal vendetta against you when it made the decision to keep this hotel completely occupied the entire time.
"What am I going to do?"
"You could send them over to Royal York."
"Are you kidding me? I'd sooner cut off my left arm, then send them back there." It wasn't that Royal York was a bad hotel, but there was definitely a little rivalry between you and the manager over there. It was a friendly competition on who could handle all these NHL players, but you wanted to be the victor here.
"They could always move into the suite with you. You have two extra rooms, though someone would have to double up." She eyed all of the men standing there silently outside the room, just waiting for you to explode. "Or someone could always sleep in your bed." She nudged you and then whispered low. "My votes for the crop top king." As much as you didn't want to admit it, he did sort of have that quality about him that appealed to you. Shit, what were you doing even thinking about her suggestion?
"Two of them can room together, especially after making this mess."
"Hmm, probably. Just don't rule my suggestion out."
You gave her a look, the one that said you wouldn't be entertaining that thought, even though there was part of you that wanted to, then stepped out in the hallway to speak to the guys gathered there. "I'm sure you gathered that we have a bit of a…situation here. We're going to need to shut the water off in three rooms for a couple days." The three culprits all shared looks back and forth with each other, and you truly had to wonder what the hell they were trying to do that broke the damn water pipe. "If you're in room twenty-one, twenty-three, and twenty-five we're going to need to relocate you." As you said the names, you realized that the guilty party just so happened to be the same guys that needed to be relocated. "If you could just pack up your things, I'll get someone here to move you."
All the other players dispersed to their rooms, and finally, Joel came up to you. "Look we're really sorry. We understand if you have us sleeping in cots in the basement or something for the next couple of days."
He sounded so sweet and, well innocent wasn't the right word, but maybe sincere, that you found yourself saying, "No, we'd never do something like that, but I will need two of you to stay in the same room. There are two queen beds in the one so it's not like you'll have to share."
"That's not a problem, Svech and I can room together." Joel offered, putting his arm around his teammate.
"I'm sure a lot of your stuff is ruined, from the water. I can have housekeeping take care of all your laundry, but if you could just grab your other things."
"Sure, no problem. Just give us like twenty minutes and we'll be ready."
The three of them disappeared while you made phone calls to housekeeping, letting them know to make this a priority and that they would also be needing to clean up the other rooms in your suite over the next few days. Sure enough, twenty minutes later they had all their gear gathered up. "So, where are we headed to?" Dougie asked as you all stepped into the elevator. You hit the penthouse floor button.
"My suite." Glances were exchanged and you didn't miss them checking your body up and down appreciatively. "You'll be staying with me until your rooms can be cleaned up."
"If I would've known that, I would've broken the pipe earlier," you swore you hear Joel mumble, and you had to laugh. The next couple of days were definitely going to be something. You just weren't sure what kind of something.
Okay well then!!!! I am very glad and excited to share my most recent idea I had while rereading Yeti Hunting again!! And the new Incubus one too!! They're almost exactly the same idea, just different flavors I suppose. Also Joe is trans in both the ideas but that's less to do with the ideas themself and more to do with just me projecting on him sgfjgsjfhsjdh
Okay so it's like a reverse au so Stern is some kind of cryptid, but as far as Barclay knows they're just two good human friends (but maybe they wanna be a little more than friends...). And then one day Joseph goes into heat and tells Barclay he's sick to try to keep him away, but Barclay being the sweetest man alive goes to his house with fresh soup to take care of him and Joe seems really panicked about Bar being there and tries to make him leave but he is CLEARLY unwell and Barclay is very stubborn when it comes to helping people he cares about and so he plants himself down on the couch and says he's not leaving until Joe tells him what's wrong and Stern tries to hold onto his human form but it's taking too much focus and energy and whoops Barclay finds out his friend not human and currently in distress and so horny it hurts and if he can help his friend and fuck him at the same time, well then that's just a win all around (bonus points if at the end Barclay is kinda sad because he thinks Joe just needed somone to fuck him, not nessacarry Barclay, but Joe frantically assures him that he is SUPER into him and if it were anyone else he would have kicked them the hell out and probably skipped town bc he couldn't trust anyone else with a secret like this).
Or!! (This is where the incubus part comes in) Joe is an incubus and currently hiding out in his human disguise at the Amnesty lodge and it's going fine for a while, but then he starts talking to and getting to know the really hot chef. And they slowly start growing closer and closer. And maybe in this world, the power an Incubus gets from sex depends just as much on their desires as it does the human's. And this has never been an issue for Stern before, but now he's falling for Barclay and wants him and no one else so he's getting less and less energy from his encounters and Barclay is worried about him because he doesn't seem like himself anymore. Almost as if he's... dulled? When Barclay looks at him the blue of his eyes seem muted and his general aura seems... gray. And it all comes to ahead when Joe finally stops insisting he's fine and after dinner one night he asks if he can speak to Barclay privately, and he comes clean about everything and Barclay, while a little shocked, rolls with it very well and cups Joe's face in his hands and kisses him softly and it like,,, you should have come to me sooner, I'd do anything for you,,, and yeah it's really tender,,,,
Okay that's it I'm sorry it's so long and probably incoherent. I tried to use at least little formatting to make it better but it's a tumblr mobile ask, I'm not sure even the new paragraphs will translate over. The general idea is that they're close friends and Stern is Not Human and Barclay finds out under less than ideal circumstances :3 I know these are far from original or unique but I just wanted to share my ideas with you bc you're the inspiration for a good 70% of my private writings, but if you like them enough and ever feel like doing something with them that'd be cool ;3
Here you go! I went with scenario one. Content Note: some “mating” talk and mild subdrop at the end (which is, of course, taken care of)
The two canvas bags are ready to burst. Barclay peers into them, contemplating the addition of another box of tea, in case Joseph doesn’t like the other two. Mama was cagey when he asked, he doesn’t know what’s ailing the other man, only that he’s sick.
Joseph manages Amnesty Lodge, where Barclays’ been a cook for the last six months. Barclay was initially wary of him; his cosmopolitan bearing and clean-cut appearance is so out of place in the rustic mountain town of Kepler that the logical explanation is he’s one of those city types who fell on hard times and got stuck here.
It took less than forty-eight hours for him to prove Barclay wrong. Polite and polished, efficient and stunningly good in a crisis, Joseph handles the day to day chaos of the lodge while Mama, the owner, took care of the big picture stuff. His friendly greetings and consistent compliments about Barclays cooking gradually turned to afternoons spent at a table with his work so they could talk during lulls in business.
When Joseph leaned against the counter, sleeves rolled up, laughing as he helped Barclay tidy the kitchen, the cook rushed headlong into his crush and never looked back. He regularly dreams of blue eyes and a movie-star face, finds his day doesn’t really start until Joseph pokes his head in to say good morning.
He’s been without that greeting for two days now. Joseph never misses work, and his sudden absence worried Barclay enough that he checked with Mama to be sure the manager was okay.
“Joe’s fine big fella, just under the weather is all.”
The one time Barclay got sick, Joseph brought him tea and soup himself, checked in on him every hour, and--if Barclay’s fever addled brain is to be trusted--fluffed his pillows. It’s the least Barclay can do to drop off snacks and be sure his friend is okay.
It’s a short drive to cabin Joseph calls home; he used to live at the Lodge, but as it got more crowded, he moved to his own space so those who needed a cheap, safe place to stay could have one.
His knock on the door is answered by a brisk, “Who is it?”
“Barclay. I, uh, I brought you a get-well gift.”
Joseph opens the door to the cabin and to an entire new universe of fantasies. His normally slicked-back hair falls, relaxed, across his forehead, his loosely tied blue robe shows a tantalizing V of skin, and the dreamy-sleepy expression makes his face even more kissable.
“Hi.” Joseph takes a step forward, taking the bags and bringing his face achingly close to Barclays’. Then he freezes, reversing into the house, “I, um, it was very sweet of you to bring all this. But you need to go.” He takes another step back, then doubles over with a groan.
Barclay hurries across the threshold, setting the bags on the floor and steadying him over to the couch.
“Fuck, do you need me to get you like a heat pack, or a puke bucket?”
“No, no I just need to lay down, and for you to g-” he shudders, curling in on himself and tipping sideways.
“Joseph, you’re really sick, I’m not gonna just leave you here. I mean, fuck, what if it’s your appendix or something?” He sits down next to the shaking man, rubbing his back comfortingly.
“It’s not, I promise. Oh lord” he whines, looks at Barclay with frantic eyes, “I hope you can keep a secret.”
“Of course I can. Whatever I can do to help, I want to.”
“Careful with those promises, big guy.” The nickname comes out in a growl as Joseph stands, undoing his wristwatch.
“Oh FUCK!” Barclay scrambles back, almost falling over the arm of the couch.
There’s a monster where Joseph just was. Years ago Barclay saw a Maned Wolf in a zoo, and he’d swear that’s what he’s looking at now were it not for several glaring issues. First, it’s standing comfortably on two legs. It’s paws are more like hands, able to hold the watch and adjust the collar of its shirt. And he’s never seen a wolf, maned or otherwise, with spines down its back and a whip-like tail.
The creature runs a clawed hand through the fur at the top of it’s head, the way Joseph does when he’s nervous, “So. I can’t tell you everything, at least not right now. What I can tell you is that this is the form I was born into, somewhere far away from earth.”
“Okay.” Barclays brain grinds like a broken ice machine as a familiar voice speaks to him from a fanged mouth.
“I, um, I’m what humans call a Chupacabra. To answer the usual questions: no, I’ve never been to Puerto Rico. No, I don’t eat goats. And no, I’m not going to eat you.”
“Okay.” His heart is still racing, but not from fear, which is the most confusing was this could have gone.
Pointed ears flick, worried, “Are you in shock?”
“Kinda, yeah.” He nods as Joseph sits next to him with a heavy sigh.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t want you to find out this way. I took the next few days off to avoid this exact scenario. I figured I wouldn’t see you, but forgot how thoughtful and caring you are.” Claws gently stroke Barclays hair, “my wonderful Barclay.”
He’s about to bring his hand up, cup those strange fingers to his cheek and whisper “always”, when Joseph pulls away.
“I, I’m sorry. Again. I always get too handsy when I’m in heat. That’s the second worst side-effect, after the fact that being in my disguise is untenable when I’m in the thick of it. It’s like wearing a wet, wool sweater made of nausea.”
“....Hold on, you had to take time off work because you’re horny?”
“Almost. Heat doesn’t come that often for me, which means whenever it happens, it’s intense. I have a hard time eating or sleeping, I can’t focus, and I spend most of the week masturbating. Which is not as fun as it sounds; I’m not even at the height of the damn thing and last night I humped a pillow on the kitchen floor while dinner reheated.”
Barclay groans, tries to hide it when the ears swivel his way, “Uh, guess I’m glad I brought you lots of food so you remember to eat. Shoulda, uh, put some lube or something in there as well, huh?”
Joseph chuckles, “My nose tells me you put molasses cookies in there, so I’ll let it slide.”
“There anything else I can do to help?”
“Well…” he shakes his head, “never mind, I can’t ask you to do that.”
“Do what?”
“My heat is more manageable when I have a partner. Fucking someone relieves things more effectively than masturbation does. But I can’t-”
“I can help with that.” The offer is out before his brain catches up with his mouth.
“Barclay, my kind have a very, um, involved mode of, um, well, I guess you foreplay. As, as much as I’d love for you to be my mate” he winces, “see, that’s what I mean. I say things like that, most of them not even possible given the fact you and I can’t reproduce.”
“Uh, does it help if I say hearing you call me that is really hot?”
Blue eyes widen, and a tail traces up Barclays leg, “Only if you mean it.”
“I do.”
A narrow, long tongue flicks into the air, “In that case, big guy, how about we have a little planning session over dinner?”
-------------------------------------------------
Barclay parks in the driveway, next to Josephs’ sedan. He heads past the house and down a short slope to a creek, the twilight sky casting the forest in eerie grey-blue. There’s a tire swing leftover from a previous resident, and he idly pushes it back and forth as he waits for the game to start.
“It’s like hide and seek” Joseph wipes his mouth, cleans cookie crumbs from the table, “We start outside, move inside, and you go as long as you can without me catching you. After all, I want a mate who can hold his own.”
He stuffs his hands in his jacket pocket to warm them. A yip bounces out from the trees behind him. When he turns, he quickly spots glinting eyes and bared fangs hidden in the undergrowth.
Sprinting towards the cabin, he realizes Joseph laid a trap for him from the start; by asking him to begin at the creek, he’s forcing him to run uphill to safety, slowing him down. He lets his lizard-brain, concerned only with the fact that something dangerous is chasing him, take over and drive his legs as fast as they’ll go. The back door is locked, he double-checked that on the way down, so he doesn’t waste his time trying it, races to the front of the cabin and slams the door shut just as something huge rounds the corner after him.
The nob jiggles, his pursuer testing the lock and discovering the thrown deadbolt. Barclay uses those few seconds to secure the windows on the first floor, throws his jacket down into the cellar as a failsafe, and bolts up to the bedroom. His hammering heart insists that locking that door is not enough, so he crawls into the closet and shuts himself up among the meticulously organized shirts and slacks. It’s not enough space for him to stand, so he tucks his knees to his chest and waits.
“What happens if I, like, completely outsmart you.”
A toothy smile, “I wouldn’t worry about that if I were you.”
Each of the downstairs windows rattle in turn. Then the scratching starts, claws on wood coming closer with each breath. Joseph is climbing the wall up to the bedroom window that Barclay knows for a motherfucking fact he did not secure.
A shuff as the window slides open, the cryptid landing with remarkable stealth on the bedroom floor. Barclay tracks him by the light coming under the closet door, his mouth covered so his breathing won’t give him away. The shadow pauses, sniffs, and then the bedroom door opens and shuts. Barclay’s not moving until he hears the front door do the same.
Just as his legs start to protest being smushed up against his chest, the door reopens. Snuffling signals Joseph closing in, and an instant later the only light coming in is from the far ends of the door. Slowly, his last line of defense rolls to the right, revealing the creature crouching on the other side.
“Not a bad effort, big guy. You actually confused me for a minute with the scent trail of your coat downstairs.” Joseph reaches for him and Barclay, remembering that he’s not supposed to give up until he’s pinned, leans away.
“That’s how my mate wants to play?”
“J-just following your instructions, babe.”
An intrigued purr, “I guess you are. All the more reason you’re the perfect partner for me.”
The words Barclays dreamed of hearing for months distract from the claws closing around his ankles. He lets out an undignified yelp when Joseph pulls his legs straight out and drags him out of the closet. Once he’s free of the forest of clothing, the cryptid picks him up and drops him on the bed. He moans and Joseph snickers, joining him on the bedspread.
“Fuck, Joseph, no one’s ever been able to do that before and it’s so, so fucking hot.” He arches his back and shifts his limbs to help Joseph undress him.
“It’s because you’re the perfect size; big and strong, large enough to give me a decent cuddle when I’m human, but still small enough to be an easily subdued mate.” He gets the humans’ jeans and boxers off, hesitates, and then tosses them on the floor with a pained expression, “I’ll fold those later.”
“Gonna hold you to that. Also, wanna point out that it wasn’t that easy to subdue me.”
Joseph nuzzles his cheek, claws caressing his thighs, “Barclay, I was jogging while you were sprinting.”
“You coulda caught me right awaAAy ohwhatthefuck.” Tingling heat glides down his throat as Joseph licks a stripe along the skin, fuck, it, it feels like the time I tried hot wax.”
The cryptid sits up slightly to look at him, “Is that a...good thing?”
“Fuck yeah. I really fucking liked it but it was fucking murder with the chest hair.”
Joseph runs his claws through the hair in question, “I like it.”
“I know, I saw you eyeing me that one time I used the springs at the lodge.”
“You can’t prove anything.” Joseph leans back down, curling his tongue around Barclays left nipple. The sensation makes him buck his hips, which Joseph correctly takes as a signal for more. He moves to the other side, takes his time teasing it and licking down the sensitive center of Barclays chest. Noses his stomach, nips his sides, and slides the alien heat of his tongue into the crease of his thighs.
“Y’know I, ohfuck, I assumed from all that talk yesterday you’d get right to fucking me.”
Joseph kisses the inside of one thigh, “I, um, I thought about it, almost ripped your jeans to shreds and took you on the floor. But I wanted to be sure you were turned on. You’re not just a warm body, Barclay. You’re my mate. That means your pleasure matters as much as mine.” He licks up Barclays’ cock, hardened from rubbing against the soft fur of his belly, and sighs, “and what a mate.”
“Fuck” he squeezes his eyes closed because if we watches that mouth saying everything he wants to hear in between sucking his dick, he’ll cum in ten seconds flat.
A final lick to the tip and then Joseph hops off the bed, “Did you prep the way I told you?”
“Uhhuh.”
“Good.” Joseph returns, sets several items he can’t see by his feet, “that’ll make things easier. First things first” he produces a cock cage, sliding it into place, “these are a few things I smuggled over from my original home. This is enchanted, so it can go on an erect cock but still prevent the wearer from cumming until it’s removed.”
“That’s just cruel, babe.” He sits up on his elbows to kiss Josephs snout, earning him a pleased yip.
“If you cum too fast, I won’t be able to properly breed you.” He winces again, “sorry, I sound like one of Indrids romance novels.”
“Again, gorgeous, I find it really fucking hot.”
The spines on Joseph’s back ripple, “You think I’m gorgeous? Like this?”
“I do. Also kinda scary, but in a hot way.” Now it’s his turn to cringe, “see? I sound like cheap porn written by an eighth grader when I’m horny. The way you sound is fine.”
Joseph lovebites his ear, then retrieves the other two items from the end of the bed.
“And how does this look, big guy?”
“Like it’s either going to kill me or make me cum like a dozen times.” He furrows his brow at the strap-on. It’s narrower than the average human dick, with a pointed, slightly up-curved tip. What’s worrying him are the spikes.
The entire shaft is coated in short protrusions. They don’t end in points, thank god, but if they’re at all stiff this is going to be miserable.
“Here” Joseph waves him over, “touch it.” He guides his fingers along one side and the spines bend fluidly under his touch, and now all he wants to know is how they feel inside him. Joseph also moans, bucking his hips so the toy slides along Barclays palm.
“It’s, ohlord, also enchanted so that the wearer feels it as an extension of their body and can cum with it. Also, please decide in the next thirty seconds whether you want to be on your back or your stomach.” Amber pre-cum drips down Barclay’s fingers.
“Stomach is better for meWHOAH, ohfuck, okay we’re doing this.” Now flipped on his belly, he raises his ass. The cryptid kneads it appreciatively before holding it open and sliding his cock in with once, graceful thrust.
He bottoms out with a groan, which is more articulate than Barclay is managing to be as the spines rub and glide inside him, finding every patch of nerves, every angle to drag against in just the right way. Joseph hauls him onto his knees and then he’s off, growls and yips filling the as he fucks him. Barclay only just registers the bed banging into the wall so forcefully the headboard is cracking when claws sink into his hips and Joseph pulls him all the way onto his cock and pulses into him.
“Holy fuck that was fast.”
“I, I didn’t jack off once today. Didn’t want to waste it, wanted to save it all for my perfect mate.” He’s thrusting again, not as hard but twice as fast, “shit, you feel so good, big guy, please tell me Mama okayed your time off for tomorrow.”
“Wh-why are we talkingAHnnn, about this now?”
Hot breath tickles his ear, “Because now that I know what’s like to cum in you, I don’t plan on cumming anywhere else for the next day and a half.”
“Ohfuckme” Barclay groans happily into the pillows as Joseph empties into him, cries out when his tail whips across his calf.
“Shit, did that hurt?”
“No, no it felt good, fucking-A babe every fucking part of you is amazing.”
The cryptid whines, pleased, and wiggles his hips, giving Barclay an idea.
“That’s, uh, that’s why I want you for my mate, because you’re so fucking goo-mmph” his face presses harder into the pillows as Joseph pins his shoulders down and fucks into him, snarling “yes” over and over again. When he finishes this time he hunches over, nipping Barclay’ shoulders and neck.
“You catch on quick, big guy.”
“Thanks, babe. Uh, are we gonna switch it up at any point or am I staying like this until tomorrow night?”
“No, we can fuck however we want. After” a fuzzy hand rubs circles on Barclay’s abdomen, “I’ve cum in you enough times that I can feel it from out here.”
Barclay moans, tightening around him as his hips snap once more, already imagining being full and fucked out. Maybe it’ll take all night. He’ll be limp if it does, but right now nothing sounds better than melting into the bed while Joseph fucks his ass like it belongs to him.
After forty-five minutes, his cock is aching, his mind holds only thoughts of how good it feels to do as Joseph tells him, and he’s been cum in so many times that wet, obscene sounds accompany the cryptids thrusts. Said sounds pale in comparison to Josephs’ voice, which is spinning increasingly impossible scenarios the longer they’re in bed.
“I hope they take after you.” Joseph murmurs.
Barclay just manages to turn his head, “Who?”
A muzzle playfully nudges his cheek, “Our kids.”
His heart seizes and shakes at the words; they both know that’s not what will happen. Joseph warned him he might say things like this, said he could tell him to knock it off if need be.
“Maybe they’ll, ahnn, they’ll have big, beautiful brown eyes and bigger hearts, just like you.”
He doesn’t want him to stop. Every thrust hits deeper, every point where their skin meets buzzes brighter when he talks like this.
“H-hope at least one looks like you, blue eyes.”
A guttural whine, tingling heat as Joseph laps tenderly at the back of his neck, “We’ll just have to see, usually we’re born in threes so, soOH, oh I’m close, shitshit”
“That’s it babe, fill me up, c’mon, c’mon I want it so bad, Joseph, baby, please.”
There’s a howltrill as cum spurts into him, Joseph panting as he smooths his hand around Barclays side.
“There, that’s done it.”
Barclay whimpers as he pulls out, his mind and body pulled tight, certain that if he doesn’t cum soon he’ll propose marriage instead and that’ll be a fucking disaster.
Joseph carefully rolls him over and unlocks the cage, “Do you want to cum?”
“More than anything. Oh!” he’s unprepared for Joseph to sink down on his cock, “oh fuck, yeah, wanna cum so bad babe please, I’ll be so good, be such a good mate if you just let me cum in y-fuuuck” A trio of sensations levels him as he climaxes; his vision whites out, his hips jerk more violently than they ever have before, and a line of cum drips down his leg.
Somewhere far away, Joseph says, “I think we’ve earned a break.”
He nods, body limp as the cryptid climbs off him. Then he’s falling, spinning helplessly down in a pit of realizations.
Joseph didn’t mean any of those things he said. His friend needed a mate and Barclay, lovesick fool he is, was eager for a chance to play pretend that he didn’t think about what would happen when the game ended. Even if Joseph keeps him here through tomorrow, the next time they meet at the Lodge he’ll act like nothing happened.
Fuck, Barclay didn’t even get to kiss him during all this, and now he’ll never get the chance, never, nevernever-
“Shit, I should have put a towel or a spare blanket down. Now I’ll have to strip the bed before I can--Barclay? Oh, oh baby, what’s wrong?” A hand pets his face and he turns away from it, refusing to open his eyes. Joseph takes his hand instead, “it’s okay, I’m here, whatever you need I’ll-”
“Don’t. Don’t say that. You can’t give me what I need, it isn’t your fault I, I know I’m not really your partner and I, I…” he sniffles, wipes his palm under his eye.
“Barclay, look at me please.”
Reluctantly, he opens his eyes just in time to see Joseph dip down and kiss him. It’s awkward, their mouths not made to fit together, but he savors it all the same because it’s Joseph, his Joseph, kissing him like he hoped he would.
“My heat can make me say some ridiculous things. What it can’t do is make me feel affection where none exists. In fact, the reason I wasn’t able to keep my disguise on yesterday is because being near you meant being near the mate I wanted most in the world. I, um, suspected you might share my feelings, but I didn’t want our first interaction as boyfriend to be me asking if you wanted to spend a day or so with me while I was in a sex haze. But then you offered to help, and I wanted it so badly that I barreled ahead without making sure you understood that this was me declaring my feelings. I’m sorry.”
Barclay climbs into his lap, not caring about the mess he makes in the process. The cryptid laughs, hugs him close.
“I, I shoulda said something sooner too. Not that I regret how we spent our first date.” He kisses Josephs chin.
“Me neither, though I don’t think it quite counts.” He rubs their foreheads together, “can your boyfriend take you out to dinner on Friday?”
Barclay grins, looks into loving, blue eyes, “Yeah, he can.”
girls night : s.r
brief summary: having a girls night in with wanda and natasha, only to have it interrupted by the guys
word count: 1.4k requested: yes - by @familiarrubbish thanks for the idea! warnings: alcohol ? if this is one
* masterlist of sorts *
Picking up the bottle from the counter you sway over with it in your grip as Wanda turns around, her smile already growing at the sight whilst Natasha keeps a straight face. “Oh come on,” You mutter as you motion for Natasha to take the bottle, but she merely shakes her head. “loosen up! It’s girls night.” You yell as you take another swig from the bottle, feeling the burn through your throat as you cough loudly.
“Says the girl dating the poster boy for America.” Natasha comments as you pass the bottle to Wanda who sniffs it before turning her head towards the opened Vodka from last week. “What even is that stuff?”
Turning the bottle towards yourself you quickly scan the label, “Not sure, something Thor got me for my birthday.” You shrug as you collapse down onto the sofa, continuing to drink the bottle to yourself whilst the girls indulge in their beverages of choice.
“Is that?” Natasha starts as she sips her beer before leaning forward, taking a closer look at the green bottle in your grip. “Oh wow,” She mutters before turning her gaze to Wanda who notices the label too, nodding along.
“What?” You ask as you place the bottle down onto the table, seeing three of them appearing before you.
“That’s not just a drink, Y/n,” Wanda states.
“Thor gifted you his favourite drink from Asgard,” Natasha covers her mouth to hide her laugh as she notices you’re already zoning out, staring at your hands and moving them slowly before your eyes. “you feeling okay, babe?”
Slowly, you lift your head up as a stupid smile crosses your face. “Just, just swell.” You giggle before reaching for another sip, this time it’s less acidic and tastes like juice instead. “It’s not that bad after six shots you guys.” Slurring your words you all start laughing before Natasha places her beer down.
“Let’s see what this stuff can do then,” She mutters before taking a few sips of the drink, coughing before passing it to Wanda.
*
“Oh, I wanna dance with somebody!” At some point during the night, Wanda asked FRIDAY to put on cheesy songs and since then, all three of you have not stopped singing.
“I wanna feel the heat with somebody!” Wanda adds as she jumps onto the sofa, holding up another shot as the three of you down another glass of alcohol.
“Yeah, I wanna dance with somebody,” Natasha lets her hair down, ruffling it as she laughs and throws a cushion to Wanda who stops it in midair whilst you watch in amazement.
Letting out a light laugh, Wanda turns her attention to you as you counteract her powers, causing her to drop the cushion to the ground. “No fair,” Wanda comments as she jumps down from the sofa, picking the cushion up. “you didn’t give me any warning.” She pouts as you simply shrug your shoulders, forcing the cushion from her grip as you take a hold of it and sit down onto it.
“That’s the idea, Wan.” Natasha comments as you nod in agreement.
“Now,” You sigh as you place the drink down, slowly getting used to nothing being quite in focus. “where did the guys go again?” Giggling to yourself both Wanda and Natasha exchange confused expressions.
“I don’t think I actually asked Vis,” Wanda pulls a face as Natasha shakes her head as well.
“Neither, I thought Steve would’ve told you.” Natasha asks you as you bury your face in your hands, letting out a deep sigh. “You forgot, didn’t you?”
Chuckling into your hands you nod lightly, hearing Natasha comment about how drunk you’ve gotten. “I’m sure he did, it’s just I don’t remember but he told me not to do anything stupid til he got back,” You trail off as you look around, noticing how wide their eyes are and how big they’re both smiling to you. “guess I failed there.”
“It’s a night off, Y/n. Can’t say we get many of these,” Wanda reminds you as you nod. “has Steve ever seen you drunk?”
After a moment of thinking back over the time you and Steve have known each other you slowly shake your head. “A grand total of zero, no.” You mumble incoherently, leaving a heavy silence in the air before Wanda rises to her feet.
“Come on, let’s make the most of tonight.” She smiles as she offers you her hand and helps you up as you stumble.
Natasha follows as Wanda leads you both out of the bar and towards the lift. “Where are we going?” Natasha asks as the three of you step inside of the lift as the doors close.
“To my favourite spot.” Wanda states and you groan lightly.
“Please, we don’t need to see where you and Vision hook up.” You roll your eyes as Wanda sighs, hitting you lightly.
“We’re going to the roof you голубь.” She comments and you take a moment before opening your mouth to retort, but the doors open and Wanda steps out.
“I think she just called me a pigeon.” You whisper to Natasha who chuckles lightly, nodding in agreement as she pats your shoulder lightly.
Stepping out you two follow Wanda as the roof is covered in fairy lights and small armchairs with blankets. “Woah,” Natasha looks around as she heads towards the edge, seeing the view below. “this is beautiful.”
“Tony made this space somewhere to completely zone out, thought it might be good for us tonight.” Wanda smiles as she takes a seat and plays some more music for the three of you, allowing you all to talk in private. “Now we have some privacy,” She starts as she sits down, crossing her legs. “how’s that super soldier serum in bed, Y/n?”
*
Walking into the compound, Steve slips his jacket off as he heads towards the bar knowing you’d probably be relaxing with the girls there. “Y/n?” Steve calls out as Sam and Bucky follow behind him, only to find no sign of you there.
“I thought it was girls night?” Sam asks as he lets out a disappointed sigh whilst Bucky gives him a look.
“They’re on the roof,” Tony states as he walks past the three of them, heading straight over to the lift with a smile on his face. “and this isn’t something I think you’ll want to miss, ‘specially you, Cap.”
Following behind Steve begins to wonder what is going on as the lift rises towards the roof and the sound of music becomes louder. “They throw a party, without me?” Sam asks and Bucky rolls his eyes.
“Trust me, you’re the last person on the list, second to me.” Bucky retorts as Sam shakes his head.
As the doors open the three of you remain oblivious to the crowd gathering by the lift. You have your back turned as you stand on top of one of the armchairs, swaying along as you sing all together, dancing to Abba.
Steve cannot stop the smile on his face forming, seeing you so relaxed and easy going. You do deserve a break, time to actually unwind like this.
“Oh shit,” Natasha gives you a look before you slowly jump down from the armchair and turn around, weakly smiling at the guys who are all watching.
You nervously laugh as Steve steps forward, giving you a small wave. “Oh hey, guys.” You state as you try to focus on them as you lean against the armchair. “Didn’t expect you back so soon.” Slurring your words you step forward, but trip over your own feet.
Stepping in quickly Steve eases your fall as you land into him and you giggle uncontrollably. “Someone had fun tonight then?” He states and you nod in response as you reach your arm up, poking his nose lightly.
“Can you grow a beard again? I liked how it looked all manly and sexy.” You mumble, unaware of the others listening in and Steve quickly sweeps you up, covering his face with yours to prevent anyone seeing him blush.
“Come on you, let's get you sobered up.” Steve picks you up as the guys make way for you both as Wanda and Natasha turn the music down.
“What did she drink? Truth serum?” Tony asks as Natasha shrugs her shoulders.
“Honestly, it could’ve been for all we know.” Natasha replies as she takes another sip, passing the bottle over to Wanda. “Gotta say, drunk Y/n is a real laugh.”
“She sure knows how to loosen up.” Wanda adds and Natasha nods along whilst Tony steps forward.
“What’d you mean by that?” He asks as he sits down on the vacant armchair as Bucky and Sam head back into the compound, leaving the three alone to talk.
“Let’s just say, Captain isn’t as poster boy as he appears to be.”
A lesson to teach me: Part Two
one - two - three - four - five
After 84 years I finally got to writing this one! Also @mikaneonox and @fanficsrusz you two deserve a special dedication for being super excited when I told ya about how I’m working on it 💕
SUMMARY: Professor Keanu surprises you in the cafe you’re working at and after ending your shift just to have a quite romantic coffee ‘date’ with him, you find yourselves in the supply room of your coffee shop dusty with cocoa powder. Words: 3116; Warnings: smut;
Readers tag list:
@spookier-than-u; @sparrowsparrow; @oreofenyloetyloamina; @derangedcupcake; @geostarr; @catsmieow; @wickedlangdon; @bodhi-black; @bugalouie; @onebatch--twobatch; @fandom-lover-4; @drunkonyellow; @semtempoirmaoo; @spadesandaces2342; @harrisongslimited; @a--1--1--3; @hhighkey; @lunilate; @i-cant-remember-my-old-login; @sgt-morgan; @coloursunlimited; @childrenofthegun; @weminiaturestrawberry; @silverlambcaptain; @scarletmoon83; @howtoruin-someones-perfect-day; @krazycags01; @charlottebonnie; @moonlit-raven-haven; @girl-at-the-verge;
You tried to dust off your flowery apron as you came back from the utility room into the front of the coffee shop, you sighed when you noticed the long line that had formed at the counter which your co-worker was desperately trying to manage it all by herself.
Your hands were still dusty from the cocoa powder from the bag that you tried to tame from falling from the shelf in the back area and after a quick wash of your hands you stepped to the other end of the counter, telling some customers to walk over to you, the queue instantly unloading as half of the people ran over to your register.
There was a familiar figure at the end of your line, looking down at the book he held in his hands, being absolutely consumed by it, only moving his eyes to look up briefly, so he could be sure he wasn’t bumping into someone in front of him and when you saw his face, noticing how his chocolate eyes lit up when he noticed you, the book being closed by his large hands immediately, his attention focused only on you, your heart skipped a beat.
Professor Reeves.
The smile that grew on his face when your eyes met made your heart flutter and all you wanted now was to ditch your shift, pull him in the back room and feel the taste of his lips while the cocoa dust falls onto your hair.
He mouthed ‘my little girl’ and shoot you one of the cocky grins that were driving you insane every time you saw it, making your legs a little weaker.
“Excuse me?”
You looked up at the woman whose coffee you were making staring at you, “Y-yes…? What’s wrong ma’am?” you asked quickly, trying to figure out what possibly could be wrong with her drink.
“The lid? It was a take-away coffee miss” she eyed you carefully, probably thinking that you were high on something.
“Oh, yes, you’re right” you said placing the black lid onto the paper cup filled with her coffee, “I’m sorry. Thank you, have a nice day!” blurting out you smiled at her, but she just grimaced her face and walked out of the door.
Sighing loudly you called for the next customer only to see that for your surprise it was Keanu’s turn. He slowly walked over to your part of the counter, leaning onto it like he was desperate to get closer to you.
“I was thinking on asking you for a date just to go to this cafe, but to my surprise: you’re working here” his large hand grasps your that seems tiny compared to the size of his and he lifts your palm, but only slightly, before he bows down to plant a soft kiss to your skin, “I never thought that cocoa could taste so sexy” he mumbles into your hand before the tip of his tongue swirls across it, leaving a little wet patch.
You’re happy that the cafe got empty now, so there’s no one to see how red your face got and how you were struggling to breath, seeing how his dark eyes were glued to you, giving you the same lustful stare he kept on your face while you were sucking him off in his office.
“I work here since the beginning of this semester and yet we haven’t met here earlier” you raised your eyebrow at him making him giggle a little.
“It’s because I come here mostly when you have your lectures little girl” the nickname was driving you insane and you just moaned internally, your body aching for him.
“What’s your order then?” it was a really hard time for you to remain calm, all you had in your mind was the sound of his little moans while you were sliding his dick down your throat.
“I saw you behind the counter and absolutely forgot what I wanted to order… would you like to surprise me little girl? You’ve already done that before” Keanu winks at you, leaning with his elbow onto the counter.
“Keanu!” a female voice chirps as the bell hung over the entry doors indicates with its jingling sound that someone just walked inside.
“Janet” he tried to mimic her joy, but failed at is miserably.
Just not fucking Janet this time too... you thought to yourself before speaking to him, “I’ll prepare your order then” he gave you a small smile like he desperately wanted to be saved from the encounter with her.
“You should be finishing love” your co-worker said to you gripping your shoulder a little.
“Just one last order and I’m leaving” you were trying to focus on preparing his coffee and not listening to their conversation, but their words were flying straight into your ears without you even knowing.
“You come here even on your free days?” Janet asks him and your stomach does a somersault, it’s too obvious that he just wants to bang him.
“Yes, they have the best coffee in the whole city here” even though you didn’t see his face you could hear the smirk that formed on his lips in his voice, the ‘best coffee’ probably meant the fact that you were working here.
“Oh, I feel like we should came here like, together, one day” she chirped again and you felt the urge to strangle her to death. You were glad that your shift was over and you didn’t had to serve her.
You placed the steaming mug in front of him with a loud thud, but still winking a little, hoping she hasn’t noticed it.
He took a big gulp of his coffee, making a surprised face, before speaking to you “It’s so good, what’s that?” he asks you and you untie your apron, slowly walking to the social are of the coffee shop.
“It’s double caramel americano” you say before disappearing behind the doors that says ‘private’.
When you come back he’s luckily alone, at least, finishing the drink you prepared him.
You two move to have a sit in the corner of the place, at a table that’s rarely used, so it feels like it’s your private one, where no one can bother you.
“I graded your finals last night” Keanu spoke softly, his hand moving to gently grasp yours.
“How I did on it?” you’re sipping your own coffee, that already got cold, but you need it nonetheless.
“100 on 100, which means A+” he winks at you, before leaning over the table, his mouth close to your ear, “I still think your cock-sucking skills deserve an A+ too” his mumble makes you blush, your face turning raw red and you hide it in your hands for a moment.
“What’s behind that doors there?” he asks, pointing with his fingers towards the silver doors that are on the wall behind your back.
“It’s our storage room” you say and his eyebrow raises, then he stand up from his chair and walks over to that doors.
When he disappeared inside the back room you waited few more seconds before following his steps, so the whole situation wouldn’t be too suspicious.
You heard his hitched breath, your eyes not quite used to the darkness around you yet and you gently close the doors behind you, turning the lock, so no one would bother you.
“Why haven’t you switched the light on?” you ask him, flicking the switch by yourself, knowing its placement on the wall by your heart. The light bulb just hisses at you, not lighting up.
“Because it doesn’t work” suddenly, you feel his hand on your shoulder, tensing for a moment, before his whole body is pressed firmly to yours, pushing you onto the nearest rack.
Keanu breath out shakily, his hands gripping your waist tightly and this time, you made the first move. You leaned in, your lips just gently brushing his for a moment, you can feel how his hand moves to the back of your neck, fingertips grazing over your side, grabbing onto it and drawing you in properly, his lips pressed closely to yours, your eyes fluttering shut even though you were wrapped in the darkness already.
It seemed like your heart decided to skip a beat every time you two got that close to each other and you couldn’t help yourself kissing him back instantly, moving your lips with his in sync, his arms wrapping tightly around you as he push you forward onto the shelf, a rattling sound snapping you out of the kissing haze, indicating that something fell onto the floor making a dull thudding noise, but you were too busy with him to even care about the falling item.
He sighed into the kiss, the sound muffled by your mouth, his fingers rubbing into the back of your neck. His touches felt even more electric than before, sending shivers down your spine and you pressed yourself closer to him, gasping into the kiss when you felt his hard cock pressed into your thigh, strained under the fabric of his jeans.
His mouth slid from yours to kiss your jawline, then moved further down onto your neck, where he mumbled few incoherent words into your skin, making you press your hands to his ass, giving it a little cheeky squeeze, then your fingers moved to his head, running through his hair, twisting the strands around your fingers.
You tugged on his hair lightly, tilting his head backwards so you could press your lips to his once again, kissing him even more needily and arching your body into his, feeling his hand moving down your side, grabbing at your arse. Keanu’s lips were soft and you could taste the coffee on his tongue, mixing with a hint of smoke; you were now literally aching for more, aching for him, for his body, so you let your hand wander down his chest, to his belly, before cupping the hard bulge in his jeans, palming him through its fabric.
He groaned, breaking the kiss and rolling his hips into the touch of your hand, resting his forehead against yours, his hot breath tickling your lips and you pressed your legs together, moaning quietly, “Tell me little girl… are you wet already?” he drawled, the dulcet done of his voice mixed with the darkness around you was only fueling your lust for him.
Keanu grabbed your wrist, pinned it above your head and you sighed when he pressed his knee between your legs pushing them apart, his hand moving under your skirt, pulling it upwards, letting it pool around your waist, as he rubbed your folds through the flimsy fabric of your underwear.
“K-Keanu…” you breath out his name, hearing the guttural groan that falls from his lips and your head fallback against the shelf, your eyes getting shut as you buck your hips forward into his touch, “P-Please, I need you…” you whimpered, “touch me…”
“I wanted to do this to you since the first time I saw you on my lecture…” he coaxed, pressing his lips onto yours again, the kiss surprisingly soft, too soft for your liking, while his fingers were slowly circling your entrance, his thumb barely grazing your clit.
You moaned into his mouth, feeling how your heart beats faster, “Mmmm, yes…” you whimpered when his skilled fingers moved your panties aside and slowly slid inside you.
“Mmm, you’re so wet, little girl…” he pushed two fingers deep inside you, your walls clenching around them as they filled you up nicely and your hips bucked forward again in attempt to get him closer, then he made a curling motion, making you jolt and cry out with pleasure, holding on to his shoulder with your legs trembling.
“F-Fuck, r-right there please!” you whimpered.
“Mmmm, I like to hear you” he breathed into your ear, curling his fingers inside you again and holding them in place, pressing just into the right spot that made your head pirouette, “Right there, hmm? That’s the right spot?”
You nodded eagerly, like he was about to see it, then wrapped your hand around his wrist, “Y-yes, please… d-do it again” you cried, your hips shaking, impatient in waiting for his another move.
When he picked up the pace of his fingers, brushing continuously into the right spot, fingering you faster, his thumb brushing against your clit. You moaned loudly, whimpering when he curled his fingers deep inside you once again, his thumb pressing down on your clit with the perfect amount of pressure which sent you over the edge, your legs shaking, loud gasps falling from your open mouth, as the pleasure consumed you.
You gripped tightly onto his shoulder to hold yourself still, feeling how your walls clenched around his fingers.
“Mmmm, so wet … came all over my fingers…” he whispered, pressing little kisses to your jaw, then down your neck before drawing his fingers out of you, making you whimper.
Your arm was still pinned above your head with his one hand and you felt some shuffling between your bodies that probably meant he moved the other one to undo his belt, then his zipper followed shortly afterwards.
Keanu’s hand gripped yours, taking it from his arm, then moving it to his cock, making you wrap your fingers around him, feeling how hard he already was.
“You’re so fucking big...” your breath was still uneven as you panted, giving him few tugs, making him jolt his hips towards you, few little gasps leaving his mouth.
“F-Fuck, you want it, don’t you?” he asked, pushing his hand between your legs again, teasingly circling your clit.
“I-I NEED you inside me… Keanu just p-please fuck me…” you whimpered, not even caring about the filthy words that were leaving your mouth. You wanted him so badly you could actually taste it, “Keanu p-please…”
You guided his between your legs, lifting one to rest on the higher shelf, rubbing his tip against your entrance “Say me name again little girl…” he groaned.
Taking a deep breath before speaking you almost moaned out his name “Keanu…” you breath out, hearing his racing heartbeat in the dark room, “Just… please…”
Without a warning he closes the space between your bodies once again, letting his cock sink inside you, stretching your walls, making you drop your head down onto his shoulder, biting down on the sensitive skin in the crook of his neck, crying out desperately and clinging to him closer, your both hands tugging on his hair.
He moaned loudly, holding himself steady for a moment, shifting closer to you, placing one hand under your thigh, lifting your leg even higher, making you groan loudly when he sank deeper inside you and he pressed you further onto the shelf, his thick cock throbbing inside you, as he filled you up.
His lips were so close to your ear than you could hear all of the softest moans and groans that were escaping from his lips.
“Oh f-fuck…” you cried when you felt how he slowly drew back right before sinking inside you again, the pace torturous but steady. Another orgasm was slowly building up inside you, his soft groans were slowly turned into louder ones, turning you on even mores as you clung onto him tightly, your whole body becoming weak and you knew you would’ve fallen if you weren’t wrapped in the strong grip of his arms.
“Say me name, little girl, say my name again” he whispered, nibbling softly on your earlobe.
You moaned loudly, your nails scratching lightly at the back of his neck, “Keanu, f-fuck, your cock feels amazing” you whimpered, your head dropping backwards, meeting with the cold steel of the shelf. You felt yourself tighten around him, so close again, his throbbing length buried deep inside him.
“You’re so fucking tight” he groaned, mumbling against your neck, moaning louder when he felt you come undone without a warning, just a cry of pleasure leaving your lips, your fingers pulling at his hair again, as your muscles clenched around his cock, making you writhe in his arms and you held tighter onto him when he fucked you through your orgasm.
“I’m so close… just one more, little girl, cum with me again...”
“Keanu, just... f-f-fuckfuckfuck…” you cried out, being too over-sensitive now and everything became too much for you when you tightened around him weakly again as your third orgasm approached.
“You feel fucking amazing…” he moaned, biting down on your neck, making sure he’ll have a mark for later, his hips bucked up into yours and he buried himself deep inside you, emptying his throbbing cock inside you, groaning your name with his lips so close to your ear. His hot release spilling inside you triggered your own orgasm and you cried out his name again, falling limp in his arms, your body shaking with pleasure as your orgasm ripped through you and you could barely even cling onto him anymore.
He held himself inside you, panting against your neck, your breathing still heavy and you ran your fingers gently through his hair, “Fucking wow…”
Keanu laughed softly, nudging your nose gently with his before pecking your lips, “Have you ever fucked someone here before?”
“No, you are the first and only one” you mumbled.
“I like that” you could hear the smirk in his voice, his hips bucking up into yours again, his cock nudging deep inside you and you cried out quietly before whimpering as he pulled out of you, carefully setting you leg down onto the ground, “but we should repeat that in more usual conditions.”
You fixed your underwear along with your skirt, the sound of him zipping back his pants echoed in the room and you walked over to the doors, unlocking it, “Are you ready?” and his ‘mhm’ cut through the silence.
When you walked back into the cafe noticing that there’s no-one around, even your co-worker was somewhere else now, you just pulled him after you with your hand gripping the hem of his sleeve.
“You look… dusty” Keanu said and you turned around to look at him. His hair and shoulders were covered in cocoa powder, apparently so were yours. He made double check that there was nobody in sight, before he walked closer to you and licked your cheek, “So fucking tasty” his hand gave your arse a squeeze, “Let’s go to my place, clean ourselves up and later I’ll give you a nice massage. I bet you’re all tense after work.”
“Just like you’re reading my mind” you winked at him and you two walked out of the coffee shop.
The Grind- Chapter 13
431 days. A tragus piercing. A black pencil tattoo permanently etched at the highest point of my right ribcage, and shadow roots in my sandy hair thanks to Becca, my new hairstylist recommended my latest friend, Tia. All things refreshed and renewed in the life of Liv Elliott. Single Liv Elliott. Okay, nearly all. One thing most certainly, and sorely remained the same. My beating heart was still smashed like a steel mallet had turned loose on it. Sure, the festering emotional cut of our breakup was beginning to mend with time. But, we all know with a healing cut, comes a forever scar. Not a scar representing a victorious battle, or a valiant effort. But one of sheer, naïve stupidity. I choked on a daily spoonful of utter confusion wondering where the road took such a drastic detour towards that killer cliff we had so recklessly plunged from. I constantly fought the burning urge to scratch and claw my way back up the side of that treacherous mountain to find my way back to the earliest road. The road with Colton as my copilot.
I so graciously allowed myself 2 weeks to hide away. Flounder in tears, Rocky Road, and maybe even a drunken bonfire of most photographic evidence that Colton ever existed. I avoided mascara all together, concluding that some point of my day would inevitably lead to a blubbering breakdown as I hid in the office bathroom. I rearranged the entire span of my apartment, hopeful maybe the new positions of furniture would confuse the ghosts of him that all too often appeared laid out comfortably on the couch, ankles crossed during a Sunday nap. Or slumbering face down with one hand under a pillow and the other stretched out toward the opposite side of the bed, lips loose in sleeping breathes. I couldn’t outrun the flashbacks no matter the effort. Even still, he haunts me on a Saturday morning at The Grind, or on a Tuesday night at my place with takeout from the B-rated Chinese joint down the street. However now, the sickness of utmost sadness, overcome with a rancorous flood of anger instead. Mostly with Colton, rightfully so. But myself as well. The foolish, undignified way I had just fallen under his potent spell, I might as well have just dropped to my knees and waved the white flag the second he introduced himself. And yet, the unsolved mystery remained. HE had said he loved me first. Sure, I felt it near the moment he kissed me after our run through the city that morning, but I chose to bury the words for another time. Colton on the other hand, had no problem spouting off his revelation to me. Nor did he stutter on the admittance of apparently “thinking with his dick” when it came to the matter of our meeting that fateful morning either. One thing I was able to confirm, was the son of a bitch clearly suffered a severe case of habitual word vomit.
The Pilot for me was a bit of a safe haven in a war zone, it being a place I could hide from the demons a bit. My new title at the paper requiring me to cover all things fighting within a 100-mile radius on the other hand, posed a bit of an issue. Thank the holy heavens I had avoided the press conference for his first match following our demise, due to the short, paid hiatus I took to visit Westfield. A taste of nostalgia and familiarity seemed like suitable therapy for a maimed heart, and maybe a good caudle from my parents. An attempted one, at least.
Tony and Elizabeth, said parents, were good parents in general. I won’t take that away from their accomplishments. But when basketball gracefully bowed out of my life, their involvement followed suit. Dad & I always had ball as that bonding clue to hold us tightly together. Saturday mornings following Friday night games always began with film, 150 free throws out back on the handcrafted mock court he’d constructed for me, ending at Al’s Diner for pancakes. That first fateful Saturday after my knee surgery, we tried to replay the film and retreat to Al’s, but when the conversing concerning if I’d pass the current scoring record at Westfield High, or whether I would commit to University of Louisville or SIU no longer applied, we drifted. When the “basketball dad” shadow from the sticker he peeled from the rear window of his pickup truck faded, a hefty portion of the pride he held for his daughter did too.
As far as a closeness with mom, there truly wasn’t much. She preformed the expected team mom duties by hosting bake sale fundraisers, and chaperoning homecoming dances. But that dependable shoulder never pushed much further in the emotional realm of a relationship with me. My dad & I had always held a special closeness, leaving her to feel somewhat shoved to the proverbial back burner. I was never much for the “foofy” tea parties, or pageant queen aspirations she had, which no doubt drove the wedge deeper between the two of us. But, when I moved so far away, it seemed distance, and time had healed some wounds in our connection. When I arrived at the simple square, two story siding home on Lake Lane, my first friend in life, our Collie, Indiana nearly mounted to hood of my car to get to me. No doubt, his name sake my dads favorite action movie character, and my home-state.
“Hey Indy, you sweet boy! I’ve missed you, ya’ big guy!” I rumpled the cashmere like white coat around his neck.
Mom galloped out the red front door first, dad following suit at a slightly slower pace.
“Liv, honey! Oh, we’re so glad you’re here! We’ve missed you,” my mom squealed towards me with open arms.
“We really have missed you, kid. Look at ya’!” Dad persisted with the ever annoying greeting of ruffling the top of my head like some socially incoherent teenage boy.
They probably did miss me, I’m sure. But, apparently not enough to ever offer a visit with me since moving my things to the city of Pittsburgh. No matter what bitterness flowered, as I dragged deeper into adulthood, I had resolved that you only got one set of parents, and the importance of appreciating the ones you did get was dire. So, I decided to nurse some long dwelling resentment and go into this visit with a forgiving heart.
“I missed you guys, too. Things still look exactly the same around here.” I inventoried those familiar, award-winning rose bushes my mother grew in the landscape, and with attached garage door open, I was able to see dads tool shop sanctuary in exactly the shape I had left it. Not a hammer out of place.
“Let’s get you inside, sweetie. Dinner will be done soon, & I’m sure we have some catching up to do.” Mom placed her hands over my upper arms, guiding me into I’m sure a spotless house, while dad unloaded my suitcase from the back hatch of my SUV.
Steaks cooked to perfection courtesy of Tony Elliott, self-proclaimed grilled master, were served in the newly remodeled dining room, and the 3 of us sat in the same assumingly designated spots that we had for all my childhood years. I did miss a motherly, prepared with love, home cooked dinner so I wasted no amount of time scarfing down the contents of her delicious spread.
“How are things with the promotion, Livvy? They aren’t taking advantage of ya’, I hope?” Dad dropped his fork gently to his plate, taking a sip of his tea.
“Things are good, dad. Ryan, my boss, really does treat me excellently. He’s always super complimentary of my work.” I assured.
“Sounds like a nice guy. Maybe someone has a little crush?” Elizabeth winked while sorting through the last few sprigs of lettuce in her salad bowl.
“Ha! No thanks, mom. He’s an awesome guy, but I’d never see him like that. Plus, I could never date my boss, you know that.” I scoffed all too quickly.
Alright, you fraidy-cat. Get to it, here! Tell them. About him.
“Plus, I think I need a little break from men these days.”
“A break? Meaning there’s been some boys around since you moved?” Mom was the first to chime in, while my dad sat idly by, trying to appear casually at ease. But, I knew he was hearing every syllable of the exchange between his wife and I.
“Just one guy, mom. Well, there was one guy.” My attention never left the chopped, leftover chunks of food on my white porcelain plate. “Remember the first piece I did on Mixed Martial Arts? My first front page?”
“Liv, don’t be ridiculous. Yes, it’s laminated and framed in the living room. Go on..” she answered, leaning on her hand as an elbow rested on the table for a blinking second, before she retracted it, minding her usual manners.
“I was with one of the competitors. Like, in a relationship for several months actually. Colton, the fighter who I was working one-on-one with.”
There, at least he’s out in the open now. The dirty secret is out.
“Was, meaning not anymore then?” Dad finally broke his cold silence.
“Not anymore, no. We haven’t been together for a while now. But, I….. I uh, I didn’t handle the split so well. Which is part of my reason for coming to see you guys.”
My mind spun like a tilt-or-whirl trying to sort through what needed to be said, and what I should leave out. They didn’t need to know how harshly he’d spoken to me, nor the pathetic amount of sick days I’d used to wallow in my tear-stained sheets and overindulge on snack-packs.
“It sounds like things were serious, honey. Frankly, I’m a little hurt you never told us about him.” My mom had taken an overbearing interest in me when I started dating in high school. Boys were something she saw as her forte, I assume. Dad and I had basketball, now she and I could have boys, and relationships. So, the lack of sharing about my now ex-boyfriend seemed to perturb her.
“It was serious, mom. Yeah. I loved him. I was in love with him. Case in point, why I didn’t handle our breakup with much dignity.”
“What happened, Liv? Anything I should be concerned about,” dad inquired in the ultimate “dad” tone of voice.
“It just didn’t work, guys. It’s done, and life goes on. Nothing more, okay?”
Life goes on, huh? Let’s practice what we preach, dear.
“Losing a love is hard, sweet pea. But you’re a strong, successful young lady, and you’ll recover just fine. I know it!” Mom smiled.
I admired her A+ efforts for the “mother bear” sermon. It’s what I needed, truly. No matter how I wanted to tell her I needed those little chats years ago. I needed that reassurance back when I thought life hated me, and some karmic attack had been yielded on my life. Recently though, she had been heartily trying with our relationship. Both of them had. And although the repairs were long overdue, and far from complete, I was thankful nonetheless.
I hadn’t been back to my stomping grounds since I’d left slightly over three years prior, so I had my fair share of hellos to exchange, most importantly being my childhood best friend, and the shooting guard to my point guard, Sara. She hadn’t spread her wings from our small town, instead chose the “marry my perfect high school sweetheart and have the most painfully adorable twin boys on the planet” lifestyle, which suited her beautifully. She met up with me at the local dairy freeze for a greasy order of cheese fries after ending the work day at her parents’ dental practice where she was employed as a hygienist. Sitting alone at the wooden picnic table carved with an array of heart enclosed initials of couples I knew never made it past junior year prom, I felt strangely foreign in the little town now. Distant, or homesick. Every hardware store clerk or mail carrier knowing about the family pet you had to put down because all news travelled like an unruly forest fire in Westfield, now seemed displeasing rather than endearing. I basked in a bit of big-headed pride realizing I had maybe outgrown this little corner of the world, and home suddenly felt eastbound. Whether that had anything to do with my recent ex had yet to be determined.
Sara arrived right on time, going straight for the counter to order her favorite Dr. Pepper ice cream float as she put it “first things first.” The girl may have been the only person in the whole population of 2,000 whom I held in trusting regard, so she was kept up to date through a hefty amount of text messages about the tumultuous romance of Liv and Colton. We exchanged a squealing hug before diving right into the heavy matter.
“How are you? First off, you look freakin’ amazing. The big city looks good on you, Elliott,” Sara flopped into her seat, pulling off her pink labcoat.
“Shut up, you liar. The bags under eyes have bags, Sara. I’ve been a sloppy, sobbing, bitchy, pathetic mess for going on two months now. Like, who am I and will it end?!” I felt so light being able to genuinely come out in the open with all the emotion I was dealing with. A crucial missing piece to my life in the Burgh was a real, true friend such as Sara. Someone to take shoe shopping, and call drunk at 3 a.m. when you’re well into a half of bottle of Pinot and can’t keep from hysterically bawling over the ghastly way your boyfriend spoke to you. A woman needs the Lavern to her Shirley to share life with.
“It’s called love, honey. Welcome to the party,” she sucked vigorously through the straw of her float. “We’ve been waiting for you to show up.” I appreciated her gracious attempt to lighten the mood.
“Well if this is what it’s all about, I won’t be coming back.” I spoke mumbled chewing on a fry.
“It doesn’t always turn out this bad, babe. You just fell really, really hard. Which means getting over it will probably be equally as difficult. As much as I hate to see you like this…”
“Easy for you to say, Sara. You practically married Prince Harry or something. Can’t I just borrow yours sometime?” I clowned.
Her husband was truly the best of the best, and he’d been that way since the beginning. So, I always harbored some envy of sorts toward the seeming perfection of their relationship.
“In all honesty, Sare, I don’t know that I’m going to have the same feelings for whoever comes along like I did Colton. I’m not going to be irrational enough to say I’ll never love again, because I know that’s just silly and overdramatic. I’m just not sure it’ll be as raging and romantic, ya’ know what I mean?”
Just as she was about to hit me with some bogus line probably directly from an article she’d read in Cosmopolitan, a familiar voice intruded.
“My God, am I having a flashback right now?” Our varsity head coach Eric Gibson yelled from the open window of his parked car.
The guy was a true, unadulterated saint. He’d pulled me from the 8th grade roster to dress up for him on JV, so I lost count on how many games we’d competed in together. He shed nearly as many tears as my own father had when I collided with that player from Carson County causing me to close out my chapter as a ball player. He quickly locked the doors to his vehicle with two beeps of the horn, and made his way eagerly to us.
“Coach, how are you?” I stood to meet his incoming hug. With Sara still residing in Indiana I’m sure their paths crossed frequently in town.
“I’m doing fine, Liv. Shocked to see you here, girl! Are you back in Westfield?” He patted Sara with a coy hand to the shoulder, and we returned ourselves after the exchange of greetings.
“Oh, no no. Just here for a visit. I finally got the chance to take a little vacation from work, so I thought I’d come check in on Sara, and my parents.”
“Yeah, you’re a real superstar here, you know that? Everyone had a field day when your article made the front page for your paper. It was the talk of the town!”
I blushed vividly at his statement. “Thanks, coach. It’s really nothing though.”
His mouth opened wide in defense. “It most certainly is something, Liv. It’s a huge accomplishment! Don’t be so modest. Hard work deserves to be recognized, and I know you’re no stranger to working hard in everything you do.” He paused to nudge my shoulder that grazed his. “ You’re talented, Elliott. And scrappy as hell when need be! Those big shots at that newspaper better just stay outta your way.”
Suddenly, there it was. The switch of undignified pity had self-destructed. Leave it to Coach to set me straight as he always did. I was scrappy as hell! The 4 games I’d been ejected from back in school clear evidence. It was time to exercise that same fearlessness and grit to scratch myself to the surface again, leaving behind this lonely, moldy grave Colton had dug for me. He may have outweighed me by an easy sixty pounds, and could’ve snapped me in half in the concern of strength. But mentally? It’d have to be ruled a no contest.
That night, back to square one in the little town in Indiana, over cheese fries & cheap milkshakes, with an out-and-out smack reminder courtesy of coach Gibson, I awoke. The sleepwalking, gray way of life a thing of the past. I excused myself from the parade of self-pity I had long been the grand marshal for.
“Maybe she’ll take your word for it, Coach. I’ve been trying to get that very same thing through that thick head of hers.” Sara interjected, slurping the last traces of whipped cream from her glass.
“Okay, okay, you two. Lay off before it all goes to my head.” I shook with a chuckle, and decided then and there, that I was going to find peace and satisfaction in life when I got back to Pittsburgh, someway, somehow, no matter what. I wanted my heart back from him. The heart he clearly had no use for any longer.
The Interview (Tom Holland x Actress!Reader)
Description: You’re Tom Holland’s costar and girlfriend since the end of Civil War. Usually, you go on interviews together, but this time, you are requested alone on Ellen.
I stepped onto the stage with a big grin, waving both hands at the screaming audience before me. The lights shining down from behind the large video cameras were almost blinding, but I was still more than happy to face them.
The interview was one of not many that I would be participating in without Tom. After he'd first asked me out during an interview much like this one, it had become our custom to do these interviews together at the demand of our host. Often, we'd walk onto the stage only to find a single armchair awaiting us. No talk show wanted to miss another big moment in the life of (ship name), as the fans have dubbed us. Finally, though, after about 3 years together, the hosts seemed to have calmed in their demands of seeing us together.
Still, I must admit, without Tom there to calm me down, I was feeling a little nervous. My waist felt cold and empty without his hand to gently rest on it. I sat on the big, comfortable chair and let out a soft breath before facing my interviewer, Ellen Degeneres - one of the kindest people to interview me as of yet. She always seemed so interested in me, rather than my picture-perfect relationship. She doesn't obsess over how cute we are - something I adore about Tom, but that becomes a bit frustrating when having the constantly retell the same story to every single person who interviews me. Instead, she asks me about my experience with the sets and other actors of my movies. I smiled at her, and she sent a warm smile back to me.
"(Y/N) (L/N), it's so great to have you back on the show," Ellen said.
I flashed a wide smile and replied in complete honesty, "I'm more than happy to be here, Ellen."
"I'm gonna get straight to the point here," Ellen said quickly. I laughed a bit and motioned for her to continue. "You died in the last Marvel movie, as did so many others. Lots of fans were disappointed by this, and we were all wondering: will you be coming back? I mean, is this death permanent?" She leaned forward in her seat, searching for some sort of confirmation.
I sighed and bowed my head slightly. "Ellen, you know I love you, but I can't just give away that kind of information-" I was quickly interrupted by some loud protests from the audience next to us. "I'm sorry, I can't!" I shouted, trying to console the complaining fans as best as I could. When the shouts died down, I spoke again. "But I will say this: the fact that so many of you are so affected by my character's death - that you honestly cared about a character who was only just introduced to the movie franchise - just warms my heart. I love you all so much, and I couldn't imagine getting this far without you guys!" Massive applause erupted from the crowd. I laughed and blew a few kisses to the amazing people sitting in those seats.
"Well, as great as it is to interview you, we have a game to get to!" Ellen shouted over the roar, which of course only caused them to get that much louder. I laughed and got up, smoothing the front of my dress before following Ellen to the very large set she'd created. I glanced up to see a large sign that read 'Bed, Wed, and Behead'. I rolled my eyes and sat down in the stool she directed me to. Beside me was 3 empty stalls waiting to be filled with whoever Ellen apparently had waiting in the wings.
"Alright, here's how this game works!" Ellen shouted. The music had stopped and the fans had quieted down. "We are going to bring in 3 young, charming men, and you will ask each of them 3 questions which they have to answer truthfully. At the end of the game, you will choose what each of their fates will be - whether it be death, an exciting night under the sheets, or a new husband!" I laughed so hard, I practically fell out of my stool.
"To my amazing boyfriend, Tom, none of this is real and I had no idea what was going down!" I joked, looking into the camera.
Ellen grinned and turned back to her audience. "Bring out the bachelors!" The music started playing again, and a voice spoke over the loud speaker, "Bachelor number 1!" The fans cheered loudly, clapping and hollering. I raised an eyebrow, wondering who would draw that kind of reaction. "Bachelor number 2!" A similarly loud amount of cheering followed, if not louder. I nodded a bit, slightly impressed that the show had managed to get such popular people. The third bachelor caught me off guard, though. The announcer barely had the time to say the first syllable before he was drowned out by the thunder coming from right before me. I laughed at the big reaction.
"Well somebody's well-loved," I snarked. Apparently the microphone caught my remark, though, because I soon heard some quiet chuckling in my ear.
"Alright, (Y/N), how 'bout we begin? Ask any question you'd like to any of the 3 bachelors, and they must answer truthfully. Who will be first?" Ellen asked, a giant smile across her lips.
"Ok, Bachelor 1..." I thought for a moment, trying to come up with something good. "What animal do you think would make the best pet and why?"
An incredibly deep, raspy voice answered me. "Well, I think dogs are very loyal and loving creatures. You'll always have a friend if you have a dog, so I think I'm going to have to go with a dog." I nodded in approval.
"Bachelor 2, where would you take me on a first date?"
"Well, personally, I would try to take you somewhere nice. Probably a sophisticated restaurant, where we could dress up and have a good time together." This voice was more metallic and robotic. It was obvious that they'd been hooked up to some kind of voice modulator. "Oh, and afterwards we could head back to your place for an even better time together."
I laughed and shook my head, choosing to just move on. "Bachelor 3, what about a third date?"
"Well first..." he started by quickly stopped. I laughed along with the people in the stands at the voice the staff had chosen for him. "Aw, c'mon, guys! Really?!" he complained, the high, squeaky voice ringing through the speakers. "Not cool!"
"Bachelor 3, your answer?" I prompted, smirking a bit.
Bachelor 3 huffed and muttered something incoherent under his breath before continuing. "I would first take you somewhere fun, like laser tag or something, since we already would know each other fairly well at that point. After, I would take you back to either your place of mine so we can relax, watch some movies, and eat takeout."
A slight smile curved the corners of my lips as I remembered doing something similar with Tom, except instead of laser tag, he'd chosen paintball. "Good answer," I grinned. "Bachelor 2! What's your favorite time of day?"
The robotic voice answered easily and without hesitation. "Anytime I see you, hot stuff."
I laughed at the dumb answer that was obviously intended as a joke. "Good for you, Bachelor 2, but you may just have a few bad days coming up if that's the case." A loud, "ooooooh" came from the stands. "Bachelor 1, what do you look for in a significant other?"
"They have to have a nice smile, and they have to be a pretty good cook," Bachelor 1 answered seriously. I raised an eyebrow.
"I might be pretty disappointing for you, then, Bachelor 1," I shrugged. A few chuckles followed before I continued. "Bachelor 3, how would you meet my parents?"
"I'd love to say that I'd be super cool and would immediately impress them, but I'd probably end up embarrassing myself around the people who raised such a great person like you," The squeaky voice responded. I blushed a bit and smiled as the crowd "Awww"d.
"You'd probably get along well with Tom, then," I laughed. The crowd erupted in very loud laughter. I raised a brow in surprise. "Wow, you guys. I'm really not that funny," I chuckled. "Ok, my last question is for all 3 of you. What would be your ideal future? What do you see when you imagine yourself as happy as possible?"
Bachelor 1 answered first. "I imagine a successful career. Something I can use as a foundation to support a future family." I nodded slowly, mulling over his response.
"I see you on my arm as we take on the world," Bachelor 2 quickly butted in. I rolled my eyes once more at Bachelor 2's antics. Silence followed.
I waited a few seconds before speaking. "Bachelor 3?"
Bachelor 3 responded slowly, seeming to put a lot of thought into his response. "I see my kind, amazing wife, our future children, and any future pets together. We're in a house - nothing too big - and we're eating dinner. We're all happy as we joke around the table. Anything else is just a bonus." I blinked in surprise. His answer was so heartfelt, as though he'd imagined this many times before.
"Alright, (Y/N), decision time! Which bachelors will you be bedding, wedding, and beheading?" Ellen snapped me out of my trance. I didn't really need to give it a second thought, but I pretended to consider my options for a moment.
"I will be..." I started, grinning as I let the suspense build a little bit. "Bedding Bachelor 1, beheading Bachelor 2, and wedding Bachelor 3!" Immediate screaming was my only response.
"We'll be right back after this short break, where we'll get to show (Y/N) who she's chosen!" Ellen shouted over the noise. I smiled and allowed Ellen to lead my backstage. I grabbed a bottle of water, practically chugging it. I was actually kind of nervous to see my choices. Bachelor 3 seemed so sweet, and I was starting to feel bad for thinking so when I'm already in love with Tom.
Before I had a chance to overthink things even more, a stage hand was rushing me back onto the stage. Before me stood three big curtains. I walked up to Ellen, taking my place beside her.
"You ready to see your bachelors, (Y/N)?" Ellen asked, taking my arm with a big smile.
"Ready as I'll ever be," I muttered.
"Let's reveal our beheaded Bachelor number 2!" She shouted. The curtain fell, and my eyes met those of Scarlett Johannson. I almost fell over laughing. She was standing in a giant, wooden casket, her arms crossed over her chest.
"I thought we had something special," she frowned, pretending to be offended.
"Sorry, Scar, but you know I still love you," I said, still trying to calm my laughter.
"Yeah, sure," she scoffed after me as I walked to the second curtain.
"Here's your Bachelor number 2!" Ellen announced. The curtain dropped to reveal Sebastian Stan laying across a bed, a long stemmed rose between his teeth. I had tears in my eyes, I was laughing so hard.
"Hey, baby, what do you say we get busy?" Sebastian asked, which of course only made me laugh harder.
"Oh my god, I've been scarred for life!" I gasped between laughs.
Ellen took me to the final curtain, and my laughter quickly died down as my heart started to beat a little faster. I chided myself silently for acting so stupid and attempted to calm myself. I didn't hear Ellen announce the final bachelor, I was just staring at the curtain. It dropped to the ground and revealed Tom standing there with a giant bouquet of red roses. I guess now we know where Seb got his prop. I grinned happily and rushed forward, giving him a big hug. Tom chuckled softly, returning the embrace. After a few seconds, though, Tom let go and took a step back.
"You've asked me a few questions. I think it's only fair that I get to ask you something, too," Tom said. I glanced around warily, trying to figure out what he was planning. "(Y/N), you are the funniest, kindest, most beautiful person I've ever met. All that stuff I said about the future? I was thinking about you. In fact, I've been thinking about the future a lot lately, and I've realized something. The only future I would every really want is one that has you in it."
"Tom, what are you saying?" I whispered. My heart was pounding in my chest, and my eyes were already tearing up at the events unfolding before me.
"What I'm saying is," Tom began. He bent down on one knee. He set the roses down on the ground and pulled a small, velvet box from his pocket. He opened the box to reveal a big, beautiful, shining diamond ring. I hardly noticed the incredible jewelry, though. It could've been a ring pop and I couldn't have cared less. "(Y/N) (M/N) (L/N)... Will you marry me?"
Tears were flooding down my cheeks, and I was so choked up I almost couldn't answer. Finally, I screamed, "Of course I will, you big dummy!"
Tom's face lit up with a smile, and the noise from the audience was almost deafening. I didn't hear any of it, though. All I could focus on was Tom as he stood up and quickly pressed his lips to mine. We separated after a long, emotional moment, and Tom slipped the - of course - perfectly sized ring onto the third finger of my left hand. I pulled him back into a hug as soon as he finished.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the soon to be Mr. and Mrs. Holland!" Ellen shouted, making the crowd grow even louder - something that shouldn't even have been possible.
I smiled and leaned forward a bit, whispering, "I love you Mr. Holland."
The soft reply came soon after in my own ear. "I love you more, Mrs. Holland."
“There she finally comes!” Paninya exclaimed when she saw Winry approaching her figure skating team in the otherwise quiet restaurant. “What took you so long? Oh!” She finally noticed Ed hopping towards them behind Winry, and a giant grin spread on her lips. “I wasn’t expecting you to have company!”
“Smirk what you want, Pan. I don’t care anymore. As a matter of fact, we have some news for you…” Winry fumbled with her hair nervously, as she was trying to figure out how to tell Paninya about the changed relationship status.
“Are you pregnant too?” Paninya asked her, eyeing Ed suspiciously. “I knew I shouldn’t have left you guys alone after the birthday party…”
“What, NO!” Winry panicked, worried how Ed would react to such implications. Even though Pan’s comment was just a joke, Ed had barely started to open up to her… Winry didn’t even want to think how he would feel about having kids. “We haven’t even… I mean, that’s a 0 per cent possibility… And don’t you think it’s a bit too early for that kind of announcements anyway?”
“I just wanted to see your reaction,” Paninya laughed. “Don’t mind me, I was just messing with you.”
“Oh, OK. So, the news is that… we…” She linked her arm with Ed’s. “… Have decided to become… exclusive?”
“And that’s what you were so nervous to announce?” Paninya looked annoyed. “I would have expected you to at least have gotten married secretly based on your expressions.” Her frown changed into a smile soon. “But that’s awesome! I knew it would happen sooner rather than later! In fact, Rosé, I think I won our bet.” She winked at her girlfriend smugly.
“Bet, what bet? Rosé, don’t tell me Pan made you make a bet on my relationship progression.” Any of Winry’s nervousness flew away as (faked) anger took over. “I can expect that from you…” Winry glared at Paninya, “… But Rosé, you have always been the nice one.”
“I’m sorry, she made me!”
“Don’t worry. I just had to make you taste your own medicine,” Winry laughed. “Anyway, thanks for coming! It’s good to see you all here. I guess… let’s get this party started!
…
“Hey Winry, why is your boyfriend moping at your party?” Paninya asked as Winry joined her at the bar to get a drink. She wasn’t wrong, he was scowling at his phone in an empty corner of the restaurant and mumbling something incoherent to himself.
“He just remembered that his team is playing right now.” Winry sighed. “They are probably angry at him for not showing up, but more importantly, the game is almost over now, and they are losing by several goals so… it’s not looking too good.”
“You gotta give him something else to think about.” Paninya winked and made kissy lips to give Winry a hint.
“I’m not gonna make out with him in front of all these people!” Winry growled. “Public display of affection isn’t our thing.”
“Whatever. Just do whatever you do to wrap him around your arm. Take him to dance or something.”
“He can’t dance! He has a broken leg in case you haven’t noticed.”
“Just sway in the same spot or something.” Paninya suggested.
“I’ll just go talk to him,” Winry decided when she saw he wasn’t far from throwing his phone out of the window.
…
“Damnit!” Ed cursed loudly when Winry arrived next to him. She didn’t even bother asking what had happened in the game; it was unnecessary.
“I’m sorry, Ed. I’m not gonna say ‘better luck next time’ because that won’t help anything, but maybe you’d like to do something to take your thoughts away from that game. It’s my party, after all.”
“What do you have in mind?” Ed eyed her suspiciously. “I’m not gonna sing karaoke if that’s what you want to do. I’m not drunk enough.”
Winry put her arm around his shoulder and said: “No, you don’t have to sing, but I do want to dance. And I want to dance with you.”
“You have gone nuts, woman. How do you think I’m gonna dance with this leg?” he pointed at his cast.
“Just follow me. Or do you want me to call Al to dance with me instead?” Winry asked slyly. “Or, I suppose, there are other options in this restaurant too…”
“Let’s just go then!” Ed said all too fast and started hopping towards the dance floor.
When the couple found their spot, a few other dancers were eyeing Ed’s crutches suspiciously, but he decided to ignore it. “So… how are we gonna do this?”
“I think… if you can stand with just one crutch, you could use your hand to twirl me, and I’ll do the rest,” Winry suggested.
“Sounds doable,” Ed noted and left his right crutch against the wall. Winry took his metal hand (that was covered with the usual white glove) into hers and started doing her dance moves. The song was fast, so she was able to show her jiving skills well.
“I knew you could skate but I didn’t know you can dance too!” Ed commented at some point.
“A lot of figure skaters take also dancing classes because it certainly helps with the balance and everything.” Winry reminded him.
“Right. That makes sense,” Ed admitted.
The longer the song continued, the more he lightened up too, finishing the dance by pulling Winry close to him and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
“You were right, it was kinda fun! Maybe one day we can dance for real.”
“Is that a promise?” Winry asked. “Because if it is, I will remember it, I swear.”
“Maybe it is.” Ed grinned and turned to pick up his crutch.
…
A few hours later, Winry was looking for Ed who had disappeared while she had gone to the restroom, and finally found him on the balcony.
“There you are! I was a bit worried you might have left,” Winry said.
“Oh. I just needed a little break to hear my thoughts. It’s been quite a day, don’t you think?” Ed asked.
“It has… As amazing it has been, I am quite eager to get into my own bed soon.” Ed gave Winry a puppy dog expression. “We’ll see if someone gets to join me. Maybe if you are extra nice to me. Anyway, Gracia already left, Garfiel is hitting on someone, and Rosé and Paninya’s dancing is looking like they don’t really need our company… so I’d say we’re free to go.”
“Sounds good to me. By the way, Al sends his congrats,” Ed remembered. “He’s with Mei now but said he’d catch up with us tomorrow.”
“Oh! How is it going between those two?”
“The last time I saw them together, they were chatting pretty eagerly about who knows what, so I’d say it’s going pretty well. Too bad she lives in Xing, though. What if they get together, and he decides to move there?”
“I think you are getting a bit ahead of yourself again,” Winry noted. “They just met. But what about us? It’s like you said, we live pretty far from each other and travel a lot… Should we try to come up with a schedule for our meetings?”
“Until my leg is healed, you don’t have to worry about me traveling…” Ed sighed. “I will have plenty of free time. I think I might still spend a little while in Resembool because I’m not super eager to do household work with this leg.”
“I’ll visit you there when I have my next free weekend! Hey… does this situation remind you of your party?” Winry realized.
“I guess it does,” Ed agreed. “A lot has happened after that, though… Even though it has only been a few days.”
“Sometimes… things… happen fast. You don’t regret it, do you?” Winry asked, slight hint of worry in her voice.
“No.” Ed shook his head. “I thought this was going to be difficult, but now that it’s actually happening… I realized it’s really quite simple. I want to spend more time with you. I just… needed to deal with some things first.”
“I understand. And hey, I’ll be here the whole time if you still need help with that,” Winry promised, and it was her turn to kiss Ed on the cheek. “Hey, what’s that?”
Ed was holding a small box in his hand and Winry casted a curious look at it. If it had been anyone else giving her that box, she might have been more nervous about what was in it, but she knew Ed wouldn’t ask her so soon… Right?
“Um… this is just a championship gift for you…” Ed said, and Winry immediately relaxed. “I was going to give it to you no matter what result, but it turned out going pretty well, don’t you think?”
“Heh, I guess so.” Winry unwrapped the paper around the box carefully and admired its black surface for a moment before opening it. “Ed, these are so pretty!”
What she saw in the box were earrings, with tiny golden skates hanging from them. She took them in her hand to get a better look at them.
“I just… well, I asked Riza if she knew what would make you happy, and she said you like earrings. So. I went to the shop where they sell these and… thought the skates were pretty fitting… in many ways… since you know, skating was what united us in the first place… and… gold to match your medal…”
“Awww. That is so sweet.” She quickly wiped the corners of her eyes dry and turned Ed’s head to face her. “Seriously, I love them. Thank you.” Then she leaned in to press a light kiss on his mouth. They let the kiss linger for a few moments before Winry pulled away and run her hand on Ed’s automail arm briefly.
“Hey, guess what… I kinda have a gift for you too. It’s in my room, though, so should we take a cab and leave?”
“It’s like you said, I don’t think anyone would miss us… so sure!” Ed gave Winry his familiar shit eating grin, taking his crutches from the bench next to him and jumping up rather eagerly.
…
The couple waved their goodbyes to those of their friends who were still left at the club and took the first cab to the hotel (this time they were farther from the hotel than during Ed’s birthday so Winry didn’t want to make Ed walk all that way). For some reason, Ed hesitated a bit before stepping inside Winry’s room, though.
“What’s wrong?” Winry folded her arms over her chest and stared at Ed questioningly.
“It’s just… We are a… couple… now… so I hope you’re not expecting…”
“Expecting what?” Winry tilted her head slightly as she tried to understand what Ed was saying. “Oh!” she finally realized, her face turning red. “Nonono, I wasn’t thinking about that… Not that I wouldn’t like… eventually… but we can take our time… No, there’s something I want to show you…”
With Winry’s rambling, the nervousness that had taken over Ed’s body finally left him, and he started laughing so hard he doubled over.
“What’s so funny?” she asked, slightly hurt because she didn’t understand what was in Ed’s mind in that moment. Was he laughing at her?
“It’s just…” he guffawed, “… The tables have turned… Remember what happened the last time we spent a night together? You thought I was expecting us to…”
“Oh!” Winry finally understood. “Well, I wasn’t expecting anything, so you can stop laughing and come here.” Her voice had a bit of sharpness in it as she continued: “I have some drawings I want to show you.”
“Sorry.” Ed finally calmed down. “Show them.”
He hopped towards the table on which Winry had spread her papers and squinted as he was trying figure out what was in her drawings. “Wait a second… Is this an automail arm?”
“I noticed your arm was creaking a bit, so I designed this… What do you think? We would of course need to measure your arm before I can draw the final version, but… I’d love to do it if you let me?”
“Have you built automails before?” Ed asked, even though he believed he knew the answer. She had drawn that picture complete from the scratch, after all.
“I have, plenty! Although…” she blushed a bit as she continued: “this would be the first one that would be in use…”
“Well, it looks amazing, so… why the hell not? Truth to be told, I don’t really like my current mechanic so it would be a win-win situation in many ways.”
“It’s settled, then!” Winry clapped her hands excitedly. “You, me and an automail date once this season is over and I have more time to focus on mechanics. Although… I would like to get some measures sooner because that way I’ll have more time to prepare for it.” She pulled out the tape measure from her bag and looked at him expectantly. “Would you mind?”
“Of-of course not…” Ed said, although a bit hesitantly because Winry seemed to have turned her geek mode on. “What do you need me to do?”
“Uhh… You would probably need to take your shirt off because I need to be able to see where the shoulder piece starts and stuff…” She was blushing again. Ed threw his coat and suit on a nearby chair and sat down on the bed, unbuttoning his dress shirt slowly. He turned to look at Winry as he felt her gaze on him.
“Enjoying the view?” Ed cocked his eyebrow when their eyes met.
“You are suddenly awfully smug for someone who just freaked out about coming into my room.” Winry retorted, although her cheeks were still burning.
“I just like to make you as flustered as you make me…”
An awkward silence fell between them, but finally Ed added: “OK, here’s the thing: I do want to… do it with you… eventually, like you said… but with this cast… there’s a lot I won’t be able to do, and… I think you deserve better than that… so… I’d rather wait… until I feel 100 per cent fine…”
“I didn’t think you’d be worried about that… I’m sorry. That’s… that’s so nicely said, and I… shouldn’t have mocked you earlier.”
“It’s OK.” Ed shrugged. “So, should we measure this thing?”
“Of course!” Winry turned back into her usual mechanics loving self. “First I’m going to check the full length, and then…”
“You do realize that sounds a whole lot dirtier than it actually is?” Ed snorted, gaining a dirty look from Winry. “What? I’m just speaking the truth.”
“How about you just shut up for a moment and let me work.” Winry rolled her eyes and tried to focus on her tape measure, which was very hard, though, because she had her bare-chested boyfriend (she was still excited about being able to use that word) in front of her. And he wasn’t a bad sight at all. As expected, his upper body was built, his abs could have worked as a washboard and his only arm had probably been used to lift heavy weights a lot during Ed’s free time. Winry’s fingers traced the scar under the automail port, checking the skin for possible issues, and that made Ed inhale sharply.
“Sorry. Did that hurt?” Winry asked worriedly.
“No… It… felt good.” Ed stammered, trying to keep himself in line. ‘Hydrogen, helium, litium…’
“OK…” Winry said and bent down to write down some measures she had already gotten, her dress not leaving much for Ed’s imagination. He nearly bolted from the bed.
“Done.” She finally stopped her ‘torture’ and put the tape measure and the paper away. She hadn’t even realized she had been holding her breath while working. “Is something wrong?” she asked when she realized Ed was mumbling something incoherent and avoiding eye contact with her. “Ed, I’m your girlfriend. You can tell me.”
“Let’s just say that… I have never wished more that I didn’t have my leg broken,” he said quietly. Winry sat down on his lap and put one of her hands on his cheek, making him look at her.
“It’s OK. We can wait.” She kissed him tenderly, getting a response from him soon. Her fingers played on his bare skin while his metal arm went to cup her ass, the other one massaging her back. Soon Winry realized he wouldn’t open the zipper of her dress unless she gave him a permission, so she pulled away from the kiss and told him: “I’ve seen you shirtless, so it’s only fair you see me that way too… Equivalent exchange…”
“Have I ever told you you are freaking amazing?” Ed breathed before his hand went to unzip the dress while his lips worked on her neck.
“I think you might have mentioned that once or twice but it never hurts to hear it again.” Winry grinned and stood up to shake the dress off once Ed has unzipped it. “What? Have you never seen a half naked woman before?” she teased when Ed gaped at her like she was some kind of miracle.
“I-I have but never anyone who looks as… wow…” His eyes took all of her in, from the thin yet strong thighs to the skin colored strapless bra, before focusing on her face again. Even though she must have been dead tired already, and her make-up was slightly smudged, in Ed’s opinion she looked incredible.
“Thank you,” Winry gently pushed Ed to laying position and settled on his lap, minding his injured leg. “Wanna help me with this?” she turned her back to him, so Ed could unhook her bra.
“Sure, but… I’m gonna explode if we continue much further. And I just said… this is not how I want to do this.”
“I didn’t mean we have to do anything, silly,” she tried to comfort him. “I just want to get rid of this thing because trust me, it’s pretty uncomfortable to sleep with.”
“Oh. OK. I got it.”
After getting her bra unhooked and throwing it away, Winry got up again and made a bit of a show of stretching her arms in front of Ed (giving Ed a very good shot of some of her best features) before pulling her pajama top on her. Ed didn’t know how to react, causing him to just stare at her dumbfounded with his mouth open.
“What was that for?” he asked, sounding almost frustrated.
“Just something for you to look forward to while we are away from each other, I guess.” She winked.
“You dumb, I would… I would be looking forward to our next meeting either way.” Ed folded his arms, sounding almost offended that Winry thought there was any other possibility. “I mean, you look great and all, but I care about your personality more.”
“That means a lot to me, Ed. I… uh, never mind.” She laid down next to him and snuggled her head against his bare chest. “This has been… one of the best days of my life. And a lot of it is thanks to you. I just wanted you to know that.”
“You… you deserve it.” He kissed her on the forehead before closing his eyes and falling asleep.
chance meetings. pt. 2
summary: after a year, you happen to meet two lawyers interning at the same place you are.
tw: swearing, and i think that’s it?? unedited
word count: a little over 1.5k
a/n: this is super, super late and i am so sorry about that. i literally have no excuse other than i get distracted very easily. anyways i hope you like this!!
part one masterlist
Over time, your relationship with the budding lawyers only grew. Over many more coffee dates, study dates, and generally just hanging around with each other, the three of you became nearly inseparable.
During that time you met the guy who you believed to be the one. Matt and Foggy weren’t so sure about him. You listened to them at first, but he grew on you the more you got to know him.
You guys get through all of college together, but eventually part ways after graduation, Matt with summa cum laude, Foggy with cum laude, and you with magna cum laude. You majored in communications, with a minor in programming. The two start almost immediately at their internship, while you take a bit to find an apartment and move in with your boyfriend.
You lose contact with the duo, and realize that you probably shouldn’t have as the few friends you had made had moved away, or gotten jobs that didn’t allow them to get out much. You missed Foggy and Matt way too much, but soon realized that you had to get your own job if you wanted to have enough to pay for your bills.
You apply for an internship at Landman and Zack, a law firm looking for a digital communications intern. You would be in charge of not just the social media for the firm, but how much the media knew in general about cases that the firm were working on.
After you get the internship, which paid more than fairly, your life was filled with meetings, paperwork, and hours too long to be legal. You don’t complain, and complacently do as you’re told, only varying from course to take coffee breaks or to stretch. After a month, you start to get the feel for things and they task you with the job of creating them a whole new website, one that could be easily accessible and up to date, as their previous website had been created when the firm was.
However, the problem with this firm, was that they wanted the website to be complete in 3 weeks, when normally it would have taken you 2 months or more. No matter how many times you tried to explain this to your boss, the most he gave you was his word that this would be the only task that you would be assigned to do for the next few weeks.
A week into your project, you had worked non-stop, the job keeping you busy even on your days off. Your boyfriend had said that he would be busy anyways this weekend because he had a family reunion. You had thought that maybe he would take you, but you brushed it off because it seemed to be personal and you didn’t want to intrude.
That weekend you got hardly any sleep, opting to work on the website in the comfort of your apartment. You got a fair amount finished, and it almost looked like you might be able to finish it by the deadline.
When you got back to work on Monday, you take it a little easier. Your deadline is in 2 weeks, but you still have a fair amount of things to finish. After you get to work and have worked for a few hours straight, you decide that it’s time to take a break. You get up and walk towards the bathroom, not really paying attention to the people around you. Then you walk into something-or rather someone.
Before you have the chance to fall, a hand reaches out to steady you, and you look to see who you walked into.
“Matt?” you exclaim. It had been about a year since you’d last seen or heard from your friend, and you were shocked to have ran into him at work out of all places.
“Y/N?” he asks, equally as surprised. “What are you doing here?”
“I could ask you the same thing,” you retort, happy that you finally found one of your best friends. But knowing Matt, Foggy was sure to be around somewhere.
“Well, Foggy and I have been interning here ever since we got out of college, and I was just heading to the break room to get some coffee,” he starts to explain.
“I started here a week ago, but I haven’t been around much to do any exploring because of all the work I have,” you say somewhat sheepishly. “Is Foggy around here somewhere too?”
Matt nods, and asks you to come with him. You follow him to a small room scattered with papers, and behind a pile is Foggy himself.
“Well if it isn’t Franklin Nelson himself,” you say, and he looks up from whatever he’s doing towards your voice.
“Y/N?” he questions. “Is it really you?”
“Who else could it be?” Matt answers for you.
“You look exactly the same,” Foggy continues, and you smile. He walks to you and wraps you in a hug that you gladly return. You begin to catch up for a little while, but when you glance at your watch you swear.
“Shit, I’m sorry guys, but maybe we can meet up later for dinner or something? I really have to work on this project,” you apologize. Matt shakes his head.
“It’s fine, just text us when and where,” he tells you, and you thank them and leave, the pair watching you go.
After you get to a point on the website where you feel that you can stop for a bit, you take out your phone and open up the old group chat that you, Foggy, and Matt used to use all the time.
From: Y/N
how does tonight at 7 sound at Josie’s? i know it’s not dinner, but we can always get a burger or something from that fast food place nearby
From: Foggy
that works, i can be there at 7 but idk about matt
From: Matt
I can be there. Are you sure this won’t interrupt your project, Y/N?
From: Y/N
it’s fine, i’ve gotten far enough that i can take one night off, and besides i’m pretty sure we all need the break
From: Foggy
you never need a good reason to go to josie’s, Y/N
From: Matt
Anyways, we’ll see you there Y/N.
From: Y/N
see you guys later then
It seems to take forever for the clock to hit 7, but while you were waiting, you got distracted by a video on your phone and by the time you checked your clock, it was 7: 13. Your eyes widen, and you rush to put on shoes and grab your bag, racing out of your apartment to the little bar where you had scheduled the get-together.
You make it to the bar, and by the time you get there, it’s 7:32. You look towards the back and see Matt and Foggy playing pool. Matt looks towards the door as you walk in, and Foggy glances over at what he’s looking at. Foggy sees you and waves you over, leaning over to Matt and telling him something that makes him hit Foggy’s shoulder.
You get to the table, and pull over a stool, slightly out of breath from rushing to the bar.
“You forget about our date, Y/N?” Foggy jokes, and you grin.
“How could I forget about our date in this fine establishment?” you ask, and he smiles at you.
The conversation manages to flow easily from there, and you beat them both at pool, talking to each other the whole time.
“How are you guys liking the internship so far?” you question them. “Doesn’t it get boring, especially after you’ve been working there for so long and practically work in a supply closet?”
Foggy looks at Matt, and Matt shrugs.
“It’s good experience,” he says, and you believe him. “But we were thinking about starting our own business.”
“Nelson and Murdock,” Foggy proudly states, and you laugh.
“Avocados at law,” you exclaim, laughing. You remember a drunk call from Foggy asking you to pick them up, and by the time you got there they were babbling incoherently about avocados and spanish lawyers.
Matt chuckles at the memory, and turns towards the sound of your voice. “We were wondering if you wanted to help us start it, after you finish your project, of course.”
You nod eagerly, happy to be a part of their lives again. “Of course! Why wouldn’t I?”
Matt and Foggy’s moods drop, and they look down.
“Well, ever since you got a boyfriend, you always seemed to be busy, doing stuff with him, and whenever we invited you to do something, he would always conveniently remind you of something else you had to do,” Foggy says quietly, and you frown. “It just felt like he was keeping you away from us.”
You sigh. “I know that he can be a bit rude-” at this Matt snorts, and Foggy elbows him. You keep talking. “-but he’s a good person, I swear.”
As soon as you finish talking, your phone buzzes and you see a text from your boyfriend, telling you to come back to the apartment for something urgent. You frown and sigh again.
“Is everything okay?” Matt asks.
“It’s him actually,” you say, and your phone buzzes again.
A Simple Hello
Content: Dean tries to get a gorgeous guy’s attention - but it doesn’t go as expected.
A little something for @jhoomwrites‘ Reverse Emoji Ficlet Challenge
Prompt: 🎱🎧🤔
“You're pathetic, Dean.”
“Shut up, Sam!”
“Really pathetic.”
Dean grumbles some incoherent words underneath his breath and glares at Sam across the pool table, his mouth a thin line. For the last fifteen minutes he had to listen to similar accusations in a row, over and over, and it's starting to strain his nerves.
Who the hell thought it'd be a good idea to invent annoying little brothers?
“How about we carry on with our game?” Dean suggests, pointing at the colorful billiard balls which are scattered all over the table in front of them. “That's why we're here, right?”
“We're here because I needed unwind for a bit and figured it'd be nice to spend some time with you,” Sam says. “After all, you're not the worst to hang out with.”
Dean scoffs. “Jeez, I'm feeling the love.”
Truth be told, Dean had been more than happy to accompany his brother when Sam proposed some quality time. Since his high achiever of a baby brother got his fancy job at that super important law office downtown a few months ago they barely had any time just for the two of them, so Dean didn't make much of a fuss when Sam dragged him to this weird hippie café/pool hall/place-where-dreams-die, ordered them some unidentifiable drinks and pushed a billiard cue into Dean's hands right after.
So yes, Dean had been more than determined to enjoy his time with Sam.
But his resolution went straight to hell as soon as he entered the place and noticed the blue-eyed guy sitting at a table near the window.
Disheveled hair. Stubble. Strong jawline. Tanned skin. A habit of chewing his sinful lips more often than not.
In one word: gorgeous.
Dean had been unable to focus on anything else ever since he laid eyes on the man.
“Just go over there,” Sam urges, for the millionth time. “You'd regret not seizing the opportunity and I would be the one never hearing the end of that!”
Dean scowls. “Just look at the guy!” he says. “He's reading a book and has his headphones plugged in – a clear indication that he wants to be left alone.” He sighs deeply. “Not to mention the fact that he looks like a college professor or something. He's probably reading Goethe and listening to some classical shit like Vivaldi. I don't have much to offer in that area.”
Sam rolls his eyes. “You're far from stupid, Dean. You're a kindergarten teacher …”
“Yeah, glitter and unicorns.” Dean snorts. “Very impressive.”
“Just take a chance, moron!” Sam presses. “I think I saw him glancing at you a few times when you weren't looking. I'm quite sure you've got a shot.”
Dean finds himself hesitating for a moment. It sounds way too good to be true, actually.
“And how am I supposed to get his attention?”
Sam looks at him like he's an idiot. “Just go over there and say 'hello'.”
Dean blinks once, twice. “'Hello'?” he repeats incredulously. “'That's your awesome advice? 'Hello'?”
Sam pulls a face, obviously not happy with his brother's unenthusiastic response. “You're making this harder than it is.”
Dean lets his gaze linger on the guy for a moment again, noticing that he at some point abandoned his book and is now staring at his phone, his fingers gliding elegantly over the screen while he furrows his brows in concentration.
“Just look,” Dean sighs. “He's got a serious thinking face on. Probably talking with a colleague about a complicated math equation or about battle strategies of the Roman Empire. He won't be impressed by a simple 'hello'!” The sheer thought seems ridiculous. “I guess the least he'd accept is a poem recited to him in a dramatic fashion. Preferably one by Goethe, of course.”
Sam shakes his head in disbelief. “You're pathetic.”
So what?
It's not like he's the first person on the planet feeling insecure talking to man so freaking stunning you can even hear angels sing while looking at him.
“I don't know, Sammy,” Dean says. “He's just so …”
He flails with his arms, keen to show his helplessness somehow, but in the process totally forgets about the cue still in his hands.
And he rams the damned thing right into his eye!
Well, okay, he misses by maybe a mini inch, but it still hurts like fucking hell!
Dean exclaims in pain and surprise, stumbling backwards and naturally knocking down the table right behind him in the process, the glasses on top of it falling over and crashing on the ground with the loudest noise imaginable.
Great.
Every single soul in this goddamned place is suddenly looking at him – even the gorgeous guy, as Dean realizes instantly – and Dean flushes all over, wondering if it's really possible to die of mortification.
It'd be quite convenient right now.
Dean presses his hand against the painful spot way too close to his eye and moans miserably, hating his life.
What the hell did he do to deserve this?
“Are you alright?” a voice next to him asks in concern.
At first he thinks it's Sam, probably just suppressing a laugh and feigning actual worry, but just a moment later Dean's head catches up on the fact that his brother's voice isn't that gravelly deep.
No, it's someone else.
Dean cautiously blinks his eyes open and is immediately met with a gaze so intense and so blue it takes his breath away for a second.
Wow.
He never thought that the man would be even more mind-boggling up close!
“Are you okay?” the guy repeats the question, his warm hand resting on Dean's shoulder and squeezing it slightly. “This looked quite unpleasant.”
Dean turns even redder, cursing his bad luck. Figures that he'd make an utter fool of himself right in front of the first person who makes his heart flutter in ages.
“Um …” Dean answers eloquently. “I'm … I'm fine.”
“Are you sure?” the guys asks skeptically. “You're not hurt anywhere? You remember your name?”
Dean can't help his chuckle. “Yeah, man,” he says. “Dean. Dean Winchester.”
The man still doesn't seem convinced. He leans closer, inspecting the spot where the cue hit Dean right into the face, and gestures at the woman behind the main counter, his movements obviously telling her everything she needs. Just a minute later Dean feels something cold pressing onto his face, making him wince.
“Sorry,” the guy apologizes, adjusting the ice bag a little bit. “You shouldn't underestimate injuries so close to the eyes. I mean, your case doesn't look bad, you'll probably just get a bruise, but a little ice won't hurt. At least it's going to lessen the swelling.”
Dean just stares at the man, not sure what to say. He's so close, his warm breath brushing over Dean's skin, and Dean feels his brain short-circuits.
“Uh …”
“Sorry again.” The guy's cheeks tinge pink. “I'm a doctor and sometimes I can't help myself. It's a curse.”
A doctor. Of course he is.
Dean isn't surprised at all.
“I'm Castiel, by the way,” he introduces himself with a smile.
“Castiel,” Dean tries the name on his tongue. It's unusual, angelic, and he kinda likes it.
He finds himself staring at Castiel, probably looking dazed and a tiny bit besotted, and he barely notices Sam appearing suddenly beside him and dragging him to a chair nearby, his strong arms determined to make sure Dean wouldn't be stupid enough to hurt himself once again. He pats his brother's back, mumbling something that sounds like fond exasperation.
Meanwhile Castiel sits down on a stool next to him, apparently not keen to leave him alone just yet.
“You're really okay?”
The insistent concern is rather endearing, Dean has to admit. “I'm fine,” he reassures, smiling shyly. “Just … embarrassed.”
Castiel laughs. “You don't have to be. Just a few days ago I went straight into one of the glass doors at the hospital I'm working. That dumb place has way too many of those.”
Yeah, that sounds like something that would have happened to Dean too.
“Still … it's embarrassing.” He shakes his head. “Figures.”
“To be honest, I'm actually quite glad this happened,” Castiel admits. Just a second later, however, his eyes widen as he realizes how that might have sounded and he's quick to add, “Of course I'm not happy that you got hurt, Dean. I didn't mean it like that.” He squirms, looking adorably flustered. “I just … since you came in I wanted to come over and talk to you.”
Dean listens up straightaway. “Seriously?”
Did he suffer some brain damage after all, hearing things he'd want to hear?
Castiel blushes and ducks his head. “The whole time I was contemplating how I should approach you. I even texted my brother and asked for advice because he's usually way better with handling social situations like this than I am. But he merely suggested to go over to you and just say 'hello'.” Castiel rolls his eyes. “Can you believe that? 'Hello'?” He sighs deeply. “As if a simple 'hello' would be sufficient with … with someone like you.”
He gestures at Dean's everything and flushes some more.
And Sam huffs in the background, muttering something like “meant for each other”.
Dean, though … one minute he finds himself shell-shocked, just gaping slack-jawed at the stunning man in front of him, unable to actually believe what's happening right now, and then a moment later he's beaming all over the place. Like Christmas and Easter just arrived early together, walking through the door hand in hand.
Damn.
He can't remember the last time he's got so frigging lucky. And even if this indeed turns out to be the sole result of some serious concussion, it's one hell of a great hallucination.
“So … would you terribly mind if I would stay with you for a while?” Castiel asks, sounding sorta sheepish all of a sudden. “Just to be safe. Because of your injury and … stuff.”
Dean feels his heart melt. “Um … yeah, alright,” he agrees instantly. “That … that'd be nice of you.”
Castiel scoots closer right away as if he just got an invitation to forget any rules about personal bubbles ever invented. And Dean doesn't mind one bit.
On the contrary, he decreases the space between them even more as well.
“Well … read any good Goethe poems lately?” Dean asks, smirking. He even tries for a wink, but recalls his damaged face in the last moment.
Meanwhile, Castiel furrows his brows, looking rather confused for a second, before realizing that Dean's merely joking. So he answers, with as much conviction as possible, “I can't even recite one single Goethe poem to save my life.”
Dean laughs, aloud. Best news ever.
“That's really good to hear, Cas.”
And by the end of the day Dean goes back home with a serious and most likely incurable crush, a new phone number in his pocket, a bright grin on his lips and a little brother that can't stop telling him over and over again that a simple 'hello' still would have been way less painful.
