....I swear to god, the shows I watch are now actively competing about which can be worse writing. Good Doctor? Kills off favorite character literally to piss off the audience. Supernatural? Dean gets killed in the lamest fashion after defeating fucking God. Arrow? ::shudder::  The 100? Are. You. Kidding me.

I can’t believe I am about to say this: Fox now has the only shows I like. What kind of bizarre Hell dimension have I found myself in?!

You know what I fucking hated about school, not quite at the time, but now, retroactively? I didn't learn shit about writing a story. My school had a good chunk of time dedicated to writing whatever we wanted to write, but I was never taught how to outline a story, or even that you should outline at all; I was never taught how plots worked, I was never taught how to make strong characters, I was never taught how to foreshadow well, all of this is shit that I'm having to teach myself now, as I'm actively trying to write a book. My teachers were super strict about grammar and spelling, and I think we almost covered how to format a manuscript exactly once, but that's close to the bottom of what's important in writing. Oh yeah, and vocab. We did a lot of that too. But they never once mentioned how to vary the length and structure of your sentences so your work doesn't sound monotonous or choppy, except for a few specific types of poems. Or how to build tension. We weren't taught literally anything plot-related. Just excessive vocabulary and "correct" grammar.
