Shirabu x Reader

a/n: im not very familiar with shirabu on a spiritual level like i am w the other characters but ill try my best!!

request: okok haikyuu hcs: shirabu is reader’s childhood best friend and messed up their last game in middle school because he changed his setting style to accommodate ushijima,,, and reader, as the manager is very very pissed and they get into a huge fight,,, so once they get to stz they’re academic rivals, reader became the vbc manager just to spite him (oh yea they definitely still have crushes on each other but it’s hard with the current situation) only if it’s ok!! not a lot of ppl write for him :

so, basically,

you and him were actually childhood friends since he lived next door to you

lets say you met when you were 5 and you just stuck on to this slightly cold and dismissive boy who was the shy type

idk bout you but i actually like that type

ppl dont really understand how yall got along bc you were the extrovert and the laughing type of girl

he only stuck around bc you were actually a smart person who helped him occassionally w your organized notes

but he still appreciates your time and efforts to be his friend despite his personality

plus, you also liked volleyball and together you both would watch volleyball matches in his house where you would see him with a smile that he unconsciously wears

like when yall were 8, you gave him a volleyball for his birthday since he lost his old one when he was playing by the river

at first, he was like, ‘oh, thanks, i needed this’

but then as he started tossing it up and down, you could see that bashful smile starting to surface

you shrieked,

bc you rarely see it and you think its super cute,

and just wrap him up in a hug and he turns all shy again but with a soft smile and a soft blush

since he mainly focused on doing homework or studying, not a whole lot of kids really approached him to hang out since they thought he only lived to study and play volleyball

but you didnt care bc youve been friends w this bun for a long time and you know hes not really like that

he has fun moments too

since you were the manager of the volleyball team, you always try to showcase how fun he was by trying to take the team to bonding places

the team does think that shirabu has fun but only if its w you

anyways

one afternoon, you naturally just go to his house w him since your mothers know youre practically best friends and so you basically live in each others houses

yall were about halfway through middle school so shirabu has been studying more to get scholarships for schools

he was studying on the little table while leaning against his bed while you were just lounging on his bed after studying

you pouted at the distracted reply before sitting up and wrapping your arms around his shoulder from behind him and placing your chin on his shoulder

he wasnt really fazed by the skinship bc youve been like that to him since day 1

but thats going to change soon

‘i have a new sudoku book over there that you could do’

‘ken-chan!’

you shrieked in betrayal before leaping off the bed and grabbing his arm to stand him up

shirabu was actually annoyed that you were distracting his studying but seeing a wide grin on your face made him double stop

‘lets go to the fall market! yuki-chan told me theres a new food place that opened and theyre handing out free samples!’

you excitedly told him and continued shaking his arm to persuade him in going

‘n/n-chan, this is my only free day from volleyball to study. i need to pass the test on friday’

you rolled your eyes at that lame excuse

‘i know. i set up the schedule differently bc you have a big test on friday! but you would still have time to study!’

‘but im still unfamilair with the topic-’

‘either way, we’re going to hang out and have fun!’

he honestly didnt know why he was at this crowded market w you

you dragged him to the stall and the nice old lady smiled before taking your order

he shook his head no and started taking out his wallet to pay

but you stopped him

‘no, you dont have to pay since youre not eating’

‘ken-chan! you need to save up for college!’

‘no its fine im pay-’

‘here ya go, dear. free of charge’

you both stopped at the nice lady’s sentence

‘no it’s okay. its cute to find a boy who’s willing to pay for his girl since that doesnt really happen nowadays. i hope you have a great rest of your date!’

‘it’s not a da-’

‘thank you, maam’

shirabu takes the box and leads you out of there

you smirk and poke his tummy

‘you want to go on a date with me, ken-chan~?’

he turns red and looks away

‘no. it wouldve taken longer to fully explain the situation so just go along with it to make it faster’

you giggled

‘hm sounds fake but okay’

you both continue to walk around the market and even buy a few things like a mini buddha statue or a pair of cat ears for both of you

with everything you bought, shirabu payed with it all

you were pouting as you walked and he noticed so he nudged you with his elbow

‘oi, what’s wrong?’

you crossed your arms

‘hm.. i dont like that ken-chan is buying and spending money for me on things that symbolize our fun. i want to give ken-chan something to remember this day too!’

shirabu grows flustered but hes really confused

youve always been a thoughtful person who tries to be independent but unconsciously ends up depending on others like him

but your thoughts of wanting to do something in return for him just sounds like heaven right now

he looks around for a place that could have something that sparked his interest but nothing caught his eye

until he caught a photo booth by the corner

‘oi, n/n-chan, let’s go there’

you followed his finger and you gasped

‘thats perfect, ken-chan! let’s go!’

you drag him to the booth and you giddily enter the coins for the machine to start

but he was starting to think this wasnt a good idea

he was in a cramp space with you pressed against him

but youve always been glomped to his side since yall were kids so what was the difference now?

bc you catching feelings, fool!

‘ken-chan! its starting!’

he finally snaps out of his flustered state and he raises a peace sign with a smile

with all the pictures, there were funny pictures of you and him,

well mainly you

but he was happy to have them w you

‘ken-chan, you know i love you, but when will you fix your hair?’

he glared at you

‘i like it so its staying that way’

you giggled at his attitude

‘okay, ken-chan. at least it would make you stand out in the crowd so i dont have to look for you!’

you hugged his waist and he froze up, suddenly feeling awkward with this familiar position

its okay, shes naturally like this so calm down

after your hang out, he didnt even bother going back to studying

he just laid on his bed, looking at the strip of pictures with a fond smile

he was happy that you only showed that true, bright, happy grin to him

it was only for him

and he only showed his to you

bc you were you and you were the greatest thing, next to his parents, that he has in his life

omg that thought

he freezes and the picture falls on his face at that realization

omg, does he like you?

youre a great friend and his best friend and he wants to be your friend forever

but then, he realizes

youd separate one day and youd have a boyfriend and get married and have a family without him

no, he wasnt going to let that happen

he didnt like that thought

and thus, began his crush for you

and you were the same thing too but you noticed it later than him

oof, when this one girl confessed to him at the back of the school, you cried to him when yall got home

‘when ken-chan has a girlfriend, he wont hang out with me anymore! hes not going to be my friend anymore!’

it took some reassurance from him and more from your mom, when you got home, to realize that you liked your best friend

and thus began the skinny love stage

the whole volley team knew of your pining and tbh, they thought yall were dating but you were just like, nah, we friends

if anyone were to look at you, they would think the same thing

but ofc, yall are insecure hormonal teenagers who think that the other doesnt like them and if they confess, they would be rejected and that would ruin their friendship and they would not be friends anymore and they dont think they could handle that so its better to keep the feelings hidden and remain friends bc if theyre happy, theyre happy

oml my entire love life

this continued on until the last year of middle school

bc not only do you suddenly stop being friends, you became rivals

so as volleyball manager, you helped the team with whatever they needed in return of them doing their absolute best and winning the game

the last game of the year, you were slightly confused at the way shirabu was playing bc it wasnt the normal way he sets

before, his sets were so good that he could give it to any player and they would spike perfectly

but now, it was so different due to the simple, almost lazy, and very high tosses

the team was slightly irritated bc they couldnt keep up with the high tosses so they couldnt hit it

in between the sets, during break, you pulled him aside as you wiped off his sweat

‘ken-chan, youre not setting properly to the others. theyre getting angry because it doesnt allow them to spike right.’

he glares at you, with almost manic eyes

‘its their fault for not being able to jump high enough. in order to get a point, the ace must get a high toss to aim a quick spike’

‘but theyre not able to jump that high, ken-chan!’

you whispered, worried that he was going too intense and they would lose the game

all the hard-work the others put in, all to waste

‘i dont care. i must start early and change early so ushijima could hit my sets in the future’

‘but they’re not ushijima, kenjiro!’

you whisper-yelled

‘right now, theres no ushijima, no oikawa, its just you and the team. your team’

he was shook that you used his first name and the way you were actually telling him off

youve never been like that before

but he was blinded by his goal in the future

‘why is he our ace if he couldnt even hit tosses meant for an ace?’

‘because hes not the ace you’re hoping him to be!’

‘kenjiro, listen to me, these boys have worked their asses off for years to even come close to playing against seijoh or shiratorizawa. im going to do everything i can to make that happen and im not going to let them lose just bc you are too busy focusing on the future rather than the present’

with the way he looked at you, you really thought he would listen to you and play the way his team needs him to play

but no, he played the way he thought ushijima needed him to play

in the end, due to the foreign and unfamiliar tosses, they were unable to hit as much points causing them to lose

you could never forget the looks on your fellow classmates, who were also going to graduate this year, as they watched the ball that shirabu tossed, hit the floor right next to them

to say you were pissed was an understatement

you were F U R I O U S ™

you held the hands of the first years as they were devastated at their first loss

but you caught the eye of your ‘friend’ and he was biting his lip in irritation and anger

as your team was walking to their locker room to get changed, you pulled shirabu aside

‘what the hell’

he stared at you

‘we lost. we lost bc they couldnt keep up’

‘kenjiro! are you not listening to yourself?! you lost because you couldnt accept the fact that your teammates arent ushijima wakatoshi! you couldnt accept the fact that they’re not tall enough! strong enough! ace-like enough! and for what?! for the future?! the future where you’re going to set for someone like ushijima?!’

‘i vowed to set for a player like him, y/n! i want to toss a ball to someone as powerful and as talented as him! thats a promise i intend to keep’

you were dumbfounded

he was acting on his own reasons and selfish intent, even costing them a game, for his preparation in the future

‘i cannot believe you right now. i didnt know you were so selfish, shirabu. of all the years i knew you, you were never like this. so what changed?’

at the almost betrayed look on your face hurt him bc weren’t you always there to help him? to support him? wasnt that the reason you became a manager in the first place?

‘you dont understand, y/n. i need to change the way i play now because it will greatly benefit me in the future’

honestly, you didnt even know why you were so angry about this

sure, it was volleyball and it was just a game

you had high school to win it again

but maybe it was the fact that he wasn’t being the shirabu you knew

the ken-chan you grew up with and harbored feelings for for years

he was turning to someone that worked not for himself, but for some guy he has never even spoken to

you blinked away the tears and looked off the side, away from his face

‘right. the future. yanno, if youre already like this, i dread to think about how you would act once you get that goal of yours. but i know one thing. im not going to be there to see it happen’

he felt a piece of his world crumble bc were you saying goodbye? were you leaving him?

‘i cant see you torture yourself into changing into a new person, kenjiro. so good luck finding someone who can’

‘oh yea? well, i dont need you! i’ll be perfectly fine on my own and find someone better than you! youre easily replacable!’

that was a big booboo love

that fight costed him more than a decade of friendship and a few years of love

despite living so closely together, you refused to even acknowledge him and when your parents got together, you’d find some way to be out ofthe house or you’d lock yourself in your room

he tried many times to get to you and even cried to you, begging to not leave him

but you willed strong and you left him alone

omg she handled this so bad and i cant w puberting teenagers

eventually, he got tired of chasing you and was now angry at you for picking a team of people youve only met for a few years over him who’s been there for you since you were 5

he was betrayed, cold, and sad

however,

without each other to be there, you both studied even harder and eventually, you were both able to get into shiratorizawa

initially, you wanted nothing to do w that school since you knew kenjiro was going to be in it and that bastard ushijima wakatoshi was too

um,,, babygurl ushi did nothing to you

but your mother really wanted you to go to a nice school since she wanted you to go to a nice college

since yall werent friends anymore, he didnt know you wouldn’t be in shiratorizawa

so imagine his surprise when he saw you entering his class with the girls uniform on and a completely new hairstyle and hair color and were you wearing makeup?!

lmao she acting like they broke up

anyways, all he knows, is that boys were already looking at you and vying for attention and dear god, he didnt know how to handle that

for the first month of school, youd think you would just be ignoring each other like you did back in middle school

but nope!

somehow, yall were now talking again!

except it was a mean type of talking

you see, shirabu studied as much as he breathed and you were just a naturally smart sister who didnt study as much

but you still were able to make it to the top and currently, you were the 1st in your entire class

‘ara ara? 1st again? better luck next time, shirabu-kun~’

he glared at you from his seat as you passed by with a smug grin

this fueding is giving me vertigo

‘shut up. at least some of us work for our grades’

that was so weak lmao

but you turned around to blink your eyelashes, slightly mocking him

‘eh? are you saying that i’m naturally gifted? yanno, shirabu-kun, naturally gifted people are much better than those who have to work for it. you play with ushijima-senpai, right? so you’d know the difference between you two.’

bringing up ushijima always pained him but he kept repeating it to himself that he was doing it so that he could go to nationals

sensing his silence as defeat, you waved your hand and went back to conversing w your other friends

this continued on again for a while and he was already sick and tired of it

not only was it beginning to get annoying, it was beginning to hurt

he cornered you at your locker

aaaaa kabedon!!!!!!!

‘listen to me and listen well, y/n’

yessir im listening

‘whatever the hell youre doing, cut it out. youre not going to rile me up anymore and im not going to give you the reactions you want. i dont understand why youre doing this to me but you need to stop before i make you’

but you gulped before grinning wolfishly, hand pressed against his chest and the other snaking around his neck

you pulled him down to your level so you could lean close to his ear

shirabu was just flustered at the close proximity between your lips and his ears that he completely missed your warning

he only snapped out of it when you walked away, heading towards your next class

you sat in class that day, wondering how to tease him more

clearly, just words wouldnt make him irritated

and you were stumped until you saw a red-haired looking guy accompanied by a gray-haired looking guy coming up to you

ofc you recognized them from the volley team since you’ve,,,,,,maybe seen a few practices

you thought theyd just pass by but they stopped in front of you and you looked up w wide eyes

‘can,,,, i help you?’

‘wow shes cute!’

the red head shouted and you shrunk under the gazes of these tall men

‘sorry about him. im semi eita, second year’

you shook his hand and you introduced yourself before soon finding out this other guy was tendo satori

‘so what do you need me for?’

‘you see, we’re kinda in need of a manager. and i think its better to have a manager who is close to a player in the team. i apologize to say this but i saw you and shirabu-san by the lockers the other day and i think its best to have his girlfriend as our manager’

you shrieked, shocked that they thought you were

at this mention, you got a flashback from the festival and you soon turned bright red at the label of you being kenjiro’s girlfriend

‘and youre so cute y/n-chan! i can see what our darling kouhai sees in you!’

then you stopped

omg this was the perfect opportunity

shirabu would hate it if you were a manager bc that would give you more room to tease him

they were ecstatic since it was a hassle to find a manager who wasnt infatuated w ushijima

you exchanged contacts and soon, you were brought to meet the team

oh boy when kenjiro saw you at the door, he dropped the ball on his head

‘guys, this is our new manager!’

you peeked out from tendo and waved at them

‘hello, my name is l/n y/n, first year. and im glad to be your manager’

noticing shirabu’s shocked form, tendo and semi shared a look and interpreted as, hes so happy that his senpais chose his girlfriend for him so now he could show off and play better and that could hopefully turn his attitude to be more grateful and respectful rather than this dismissive and disrespectful behavior

but shirabu was dying inside

oh god, youre totally going to tease him during practice and hes not going to be at his best and hes not going to be able to prove himself to ushijima

‘oi! shirabu-kun! come be grateful to your senpais for letting your darling girlfriend as our manager!’

‘hey baby!’

omg, what

again, you have a loud and expressive personality so you were kinda shameless so you just ran up and hugged him

ugh you were practically teasing him as the manager and you were having so much fun making him all flustered

but he was also spiteful

the entire time, the team was baffled to see the usual stoic and dismissive shirabu so freely laughing and actually teasing you

they think its just for good fun and not the aim of hurting each other since yall are dating and youre just flirting

combined w being academic rivals and now rivals during the team, you both were unintentionally becoming close again

the brutality was slowly simmering to a low heat

and turn the over on at 350 degrees

now, it was just to make each other flustered

the crush that you thought was gone, was slowly digging itself out like the zombies in plants vs zombies

and my god you were annoyed

from now on, you were nothing but rivals and a parasite on his side

him feeling the same

dating would cause too much and the hurtful words would eventually come back up and you concluded that you were just too different

you didnt conclude shit

one time, the team was walking from practice to a nearby convenience store to pick up food

ofc you were picking out a billion foods and you just shoved them all to his arms

‘my darling boyfriend would pay for it because he loves me. ya know what they say, make his pockets hurt’

he glared at you

‘as far as i remember, i wasnt dating a pig’

ngl, that hurt a little bc hes calling you a fattie

but he still went up to pay for it and you intentionally bumped him with your hips to annoy him but it caused him to drop his wallet to fall

and out came his money and that picture

the picture from nearly 3 years ago

you bent down to pick it up before he could even move

god, yall were so happy and young back then

it was awkward silent since you didnt give it back and yall walked out of the store and the team was sensing the weird vibe around you two

‘oi, what happened? its so tense!’

‘did you fight?’

‘did you get caught making out by the aisles?’

‘ong shut up, kai!’

yall kai is a third year senpai that i completely made up since we dont get insight on the senpais before ushijima

but the team noticed the weird aura around you two and decided to walk away to give yall some space

‘can-will you hand it over now?’

shirabu mumbled

you nodded and pushed it in his hands

‘why,,,, why do you still have it?’

‘you gave it to me. of course id still have it’

you were silent before coughing

‘can we talk?’

‘its about time we do’

yall walked away from the team towards your home but were taking weird turns and corners to prolong the walk

you looked up to see him and you laughed

‘this is ridiculous. its not fair’

‘what are you talking about?’

he whispered

‘i was so angry at you for saying that you dont need me and that you could easily find someone better because i knew that and i didnt like it. but i was so hurt that it came from your mouth. out of everyone, i would rather die than hear you say that to me. i think thats why ive been like this. i dont know, im being stupid. i was being stupid.’

he stopped walking and clenched his fist while glaring at the ground

‘you told me you were going to leave me. you were telling me that you wouldnt be friends with me anymore. i had to choose between you or volleyball and i wasnt at the right state of mind at that time so i chose incorrectly’

you noticed him not beside you anymore so you went behind him to rest your forehead on his back so he would see you since he preferred to be honest while not looking at you

‘ken-chan, we messed up big time, didnt we?’

his body shook as he laughed

‘i guess we did’

‘it was only over a game. i was so mean and dramatic and ive called you names and said bad stuff about you and im sorry’

‘im not innocent either. i said those words to you and im sorry’

despite slightly making up now, you both knew those feelings would have to wait because you were only getting each other back

‘can we start over, ken-chan?’

‘you want to?’

‘yes’

‘then we will’

omg the whiplash this is giving me

so yall are finally becoming friends and your families are relieved yall made up again bc wowza those dinners were torturous

‘now that they made up, we can go back to planning their wedding’

slowly but surely, everything has been going steady and your friendship was getting better

but you didnt admit to the club about everything bc again, shirabu was like, ‘i dont feel like explaining everything’

you both still kept a rivalry but it was friendly this time with cute wagers like treat me to milk bread or banana milk

tOOrU oIKaWA’s fAvoRiTE fOod iS MiLK bREaD

he came over often and studied w you and yall would end up actually just watching a movie or watching brain games, unconsciously cuddled up on the couch

however,

this new closeness was doing damage to your heart bc you were again reminded of how much you liked this boy

initially, you thought it would just go away and never be seen again but it said

sIKe biH!

every time you saw him, youd unconsciously sweep away a stray hair and fix it to his weird crooked style

but whenever you do that, shirabu would get a close view of your face and omg you were freaking beautiful

and thats saying something from a guy who saw you through your awkward phase

hes unconsciously touching you more and showing more affection, even more than when yall were young

just being w you was emotionally exhausting as he holds himself back from doing drastic things but he was over it

he was done with all the years of pining for you so finally found the balls to do something about it

you were over at his place to study for exams and he was coming back up with juice

you were slumped over your calculus textbook with your hair in a bun and glasses on wearing his clothes

god theyre practically dating already

‘ken-chan, come help me with this’

he nods and goes to sit behind you

with his tall height, he was able to look over your shoulder and place his chin on it and tbh, you were so frustrated w the problem you didnt care about the closeness

‘you misplaced a decimal so everything got all wrong’

he mumbled

you gasped and made a noise of agreement before changing your answer

he didnt move though, instead wrapping his arms around yourwaist

‘oi, n/n’

‘hm’

this is a familiar scene

‘wanna go to the market tomorrow?’

at the mention of the market you stopped and leaned back

oh god your heart leapt at the feeling of his chest behind you but you composed quickly

‘should we?’

you turned to gauge his reaction at your closeness but he gently smiled

‘yea’

‘okay’

you havent been back to the market together since that day and it was so nostalgic as you both did the things you did back then

from the takoyaki to the stalls

it was so fun

but your heart was beating so fast

his smiling face and thoroughly enjoyed face was doing palpations in your heart

you looked away to stop staring at him and found the photo booth

‘look, ken-chan! the photo booth!’

he chuckled at the thought

‘should we go get another one?’

‘yes! come on!’

you quickly inserted the money and shirabu had flashbacks

but this time it was going to be different

‘okay lets start!’

the first picture, it was a peace sign

the second one was a wacky one

but the next one, was different

‘oi y/n’

‘what?’

the shutter went off just in time of him kissing you

the bright light caused you to close your eyes and you soon forgot what was happening

all you knew you were kissing ken-chan

your best friend

turned enemy

turned friend again

and now,,, were you lovers?

this rollercoaster is quite loopy

he pulled away and rested his forehead against yours

‘no balls, do it again’

and this time you lunged back for another

and again, this time, not only did you give him another photo, but you also gave him your heart

my opinions on mistfall!

under a cut bc spoilers and/or not everyone wants to read :D

overall experience:

its fun that there IS a sso cartoon now even if its not exactly amazing quality, and im happy to see if there will be more series or movies after this. it was fun to watch and see sso things in cartoon form too and i wish that we had more already (of sso animation in general). imagine if there had been a ssl cartoon? i also kept thinking throughout this, that it wouldn’t be hard for me myself to make an animated series with around the same length episodes and in a similar quality to this (aside from voice acting and music production), which made me feel a little inspired.

favourite scene:

skye taking photos of blaze and hanging out

positive points:

i like the background art a lot, i think the style of it, and the colour schemes, helps give the series a specific vibe that fits for an sso series in my opinion.

i like the concept art (i assume) illustrations which we saw in the recipes and other posts on sso ig, i think it looks a lot better than the characters in the series, but thats normal for concept art!!

the music is really good quality (whether or not its your taste, the quality is good) which is ofc bc its sso - theres already good music and not something they only did for the cartoon but something they care about in all of the starstable media.

i think skye is a nice character (despite the series’ overall low quality writing) and i like her design. i also think rania’s cartoon design (visually) is cute.

skye and rania being a teensy bit gay (minus points for sso if they dont end up really gay in later canon)

i like that blaze wasnt actually like... mean or anything to skye, and i like that shes a mare since typical stories like this usually have stallions. but i just like that there wasnt really any “ooh difficult horse” things between skye and blaze in the current time of the story, blaze actually was sweet to her most the time. blaze seemed pretty charming whenever there wasnt “omg fire” drama.

the animation itself (not meaning the details of the drawings or scene timing, just the actual frame by frame / puppet movements) was fine! not amazing, but absolutely fine.

points i have constructive criticism for, which doesn’t mean that i expected more from the series, but that we’re all allowed to discuss the quality and our opinions of media regardless of the target audience, budget, etc:

the writing was childish and rushed - this is not to be rude, but a matter that affects a lot of “media for girls / kids”, and a topic talked a lot about by Lauren Faust (creator of the FiM reboot of MLP) who wanted to show that a show about rainbow ponies “for little girls” didn’t have to be badly written, and could be engaging and interesting. if you watch the older MLP cartoons and compare to the first season of FiM (where Faust was still on the team) you can see a huge difference in quality of the storytelling, characterisation, etc. Mistfall, so far, did not subvert any expectation in the quality of what typical “cartoons for girls” are like, and is reminiscent of stuff like “The Ranch” (french horse cartoon) which imo is so bad that its hard to watch. (and ofc... that goes for a lot of “cartoons for girls / kids”, but doesn’t have to be like that.) in order to improve on this, the writer has to study more on storytelling and study from better writers.

on the topic of being rushed: no, it’s not an excuse that the episodes are short: - you have to ADAPT your storytelling and writing to the length of the episodes, not do a bad job and blame the episode length. being able to adapt to different types of media is a necessary skill if that’s what you work with. this comes down to proper planning and structuring the story and writing in a way that works for the length of the episodes. i don’t think that was overall done well here (at times it was okay), and bc of that, it feels rushed and has exposition thrown in your face instead of being shown through better storytelling. the classic thing with exposition is “show, don’t tell”. this is what the writers/directors should study, or pay more attention to.

the timing (length of shots, length of scenes, or parts of shots, etc) was rly bad at times and overall unimpressive - this comes down to the skill of directors and editors. to improve this they have to study more on the topic. bad timing and pacing can really ruin a good scene or a good story and make it feel disconnected and hard to immerse in for the audience.

the artstyle of characters and horses is fine at times, but appears very low quality at others (skye’s childhood scene really bothered me bc her kid-self had really badly drawn eyes in my opinion). this, like everything else on this list, is ofc something that appears in almost every single “cartoon for girls” that ever existed. to improve on this, most likely it’s not a problem with the artists but with the budget and the production timeline (allowing the artists more time to produce better quality art and animation), and it can also be a problem with the art direction, if the art directors aren’t very skilled or experienced (i don’t say that they aren’t, im just giving examples of what could cause these problems.)

the character design for all characters that aren’t skye, rania, or blaze was very lacking. none of the not-main-3 characters looked interesting or fun to look at, they looked very dull and like the most boring NPCs you could think of. even though its understandable that the mainest-main characters would have the most interesting designs, that doesn’t mean everyone else has to look that boring. this is an issue with art direction or character design. i think most likely there was just very little time (equals money) put into designing the other characters.

the horse design could be improved for a cartoon that focuses on horses this much. like, horses are a big part of the selling point here, so make sure that their designs and art/animation is good. at times even blaze looked awkward and uninteresting, as did the other horses.

“alonso” looks nothing like sso alonso and i don’t like that they used his character if it’s not going to have anything to do with him. they should have given this character a different name if they wouldn’t make him seem like he had anything to do with the sso character aside from being a male ranger. (also in the game he’s like 22 or something, skye is 15...?)

why did they add a “he’s cute” dumbass fucking stupid hetero comment for literally no reason other than adding a dumbass fucking stupid hetero comment?

considering that they “can’t confirm whether a sequel is happening or not”, it seemed very meh to throw in druid cult magic stuff and not really connect to it and now the series ended? you would have expected to find out more about the cloaked people, the runes, the magic that the ranger guy did, and blaze’s magic in general, and skye herself, why her mom is “a witch”.... thats a lot to throw in while saying that you can’t say if there’s a sequel coming to answer all those questions. (it wouldn’t have been a criticism from me if they said “we’re working on season 2″ or “there will be a comic book that continues the story” or anything that told us that these questions, in this particular iteration of a story in jorvik, will actually be answered. - and i assume they ARE working on the continuation of the story, but i dont agree with that they’re not upfront about it, when they left so many questions unanswered.)

at times rania’s blindness was handled stupidly and i think they should have gotten more consultation from actual people with visual impairment, but i think its still good to HAVE a blind character in the main cast and that it’s not a big dramatic story thing but just an everyday thing. at some points it was fine though; and i personally don’t think the scene with rania being able to see blaze was necessarily a problem - because - a lot of blind ppl can see sharp contrasts in light and dark, and this seemed relatively realistic to me when blaze is on fire. (however, the way it was drawn as if she could see the whole shape of blaze and skye could be criticised for sure, and makes it feel more like “i can see because of magic” and not “i can see bc THIS MARE IS ON FIRE”).

personal opinion which i said before, but i don’t think rania’s voice fits her at all, and it’s not the voice actor’s fault (i’m sure they’re lovely) but the casting and the directors. from the sso character, rania would seem a lot more lively, quick and adventurous, and not as calm and gentle as she appeared here. she seemed a lot too sort of motherly or just adult, instead of an adventurous teen who runs off on her own to do whatever she feels like. compare in-game rania going “MC, thats a jorvik wild!!!” and alonso going “stop talking nonsense” (paraphrased), to Mistfall rania going “jorvik wilds are really rare...” (calm, sort of disinterested, doesnt seem like she cares that much about adventures)

the voice acting overall was meh. i see this as a direction problem, not an individual voice actor problem (and the writing didnt help - it’s hard to provide good quality acting with a poor script unless you can just toss the script aside and improv, if you have good actors). it felt childish and uninteresting at most points and generic low quality for “cartoons for girls”. from a voice acting perspective i think skye had the best result. anyway, the way to improve this is for the director in charge of voice acting to not direct the actors to perform in this childish manner. (again, refer to cartoons with better writing and better voice acting, that have a very similar target audience.)

- you always knew that it was jisung’s dream to be in a band - i mean, of course you knew,,, when you’re neighbors with a schoolmate for years, you kinda get close - funny story, you and jisung actually used to bicker all the time when you were little—you weren’t always on the same page - it started when he, your neighbor (who was also seven-years-old like you at that time) mocked your favorite t-shirt -“eW what ARE YOU WEARING!!!! WHO WEARS A CAREBEARS T-SHIRT AT OUR AGE!!!!” - U WERE READY 2 THROW HANDS - WHO WAS THIS SQUIRREL-LOOKING BOY WHO WAS MAKING FUN OF THE T-SHIRT THAT BROUGHT U LOTS OF COMFORT - ??? it wasn’t UR FAULT THAT CAREBEARS WAS THE SHOW YOUR PARENTS MADE YOU WATCH WHEN YOU WERE A TODDLER - IT GAVE U STRENGTH OK,,, - unable to come up with a coherent answer, tears began to fill ur eyes and u began to sniffle - “YOU’RE MEAN!” - from that moment on, you never got along with your neighbor - it was really to your surprise that you went to the same school - but whatever, right?? u decided to avoid him like the plague for YearsTM,,, and he did the same to u - idk u just,,, yall didn’t vibe with each other - anyhoozle, when you turned 12, you began to take interest in music - there was smth u just. really liked about it. and u wanted not just to be a listener but to actually make some of ur own - so, you did what every other 12-year-old would do when they found smth they were interested in - that’s right friends and family - u begged ur parents to allow u to take guitar lessons at a nearby music school !! :DDD - u thought guitar was a good place to start learning music, and plus, someone was offering lessons for really cheap so why not - and this made u real excited!!! Bc wow!! Ur finally!! Gonna learn how to make music :000 - it was all sunshine and rainbows until u walked into the practice room and there sat - han jisung - at that moment, u turned around and slammed the door bc Nope,, u were NOT dealing with that today - sike, u didn’t, bc if u did, ur mom would beat ur butt with a broom - u had to. Sit. And go through weekly lessons. With Jisung. - twas hard not to argue w him all the time :/// - “stop hogging the tuner, freak!!!” - “get your own tuner, dummy!” - but ur teacher had enough of that щ(`Д´щ;) - for ur first showcase, u were partnered up together for the performance - when you look back, you suppose that you owe it to your teacher and that performance for bringing you and jisung together because hooooo boy, after that, u and him were practically unseperable for the many years after - ok fine 👉👈 so u had to admit… jisung became one of ur closest friends… - if not… ur best friend… - he was ur go-to as u went through ur school years - and oh boy,,, y’all would talk about everything under the sun, really - new shows? Check - cool jams?? Check - how it was jisung’s dream to be part of a band one day? Check - so one day, when one of jisung’s senior friends held an audition for band members, it was only natural for him to drag you along - u weren’t as hyped as he was, but u sure were interested. - you both, of course, auditioned for guitar positions (yours being rhythmic and jisung’s focusing more on delicious riffs), but jisung also showcased rap and you showcased some vocals in addition to being able to play an instrument - U didn’t really think u’d get in but - results came out and sksksk u BOTH GOT IN - TWAS A SIGN - and that, ladies and gentlemen, - was the start of one of ur rollercoasteriest rides you’d ever experienced - in the band, there were six of you: - chan, the leader, who produced most of your songs and played the bass - woojin, the talented lyrcist with honey-like vocals - felix, the dorky drummer - you, the rhythmic guitarist - jisung, who was in charge of rap and also played the guitar - and lastly, seungmin, the pianist - That was how it all began, really, with the meshing of different instruments and voices coming together as one. - If anyone asked why you’d joined in the first place, you’d say that it was because your best friend egged you to audition with him for this band - But, deep down, you knew a slice of you wished for this too, to be able to be part of a group where you could freely express your love for music.

- OK SO THAT WAS HOW IT STARTED - BUT, AS FOR PRESENT TIME,,,, - you were in the practice room, looking forlornly out the window, earphones accompanying your tired frown - the sky was grey and you were having a momen— - “why do u look like a typical sad music video??” came a voice, snapping you out of your trance - you paused your music. “shut up, seungmin!! im listening to day6!! Look at me straight in the eye and tell me that ‘Goodbye Winter’ doesn’t want to make you think of your sad love life !!” - he rolled his eyes - EXCUSE HIM??? WHO WAS HE, THE LITERAL MYDAY PRESIDENT, TO JUDGE YOU??? - “yeah but you don’t need to be so dramatic about it!” - “says the guy who started crying on the bus listening to ‘I smile’!!!” p(●｀□´●)q - “OKAY, FINE !! let me listen” - “whatever, dork” - that led you to hand seungmin your right earphone before you started up the music again, wonpil’s honey vocals once again sounding out in your ears - he plopped down on the chair next to you and in that moment, - it was just you, seungmin, and the serene melody of day6 - … - it didN’T REALLY HELP HOW UR PROXIMITY WITH HIM WAS LIKE,, KINDA CLOSE - BECAUSE UR HEART WAS BEATING AND IT WAS NOT BECAUSE OF DAY6 - hell, why did u have to have this stuPID, PHAT CRUSH on kim seungMIN - CHIEF CALLED AND SAID THAT AINT IT - HHHHHHUUUURGHHH - just then, felix and jisung burst into the room, laughing about a topic you didn’t really care to find out. it wasn’t your concern - what you WERE concerned about, however, is that when they entered, seungmin threw off your earphone and flung himself to the keyboard like he was caught red-handed with something. - “o-OH HI FELIX! JISUNG! WHERE’S CHAN AND WOOJIN?” - “I DON’T KNOW!” - “STOP SCREAMING, FELIX!” - “HE STARTED IT!” the freckled boy pointed at seungmin, who was awkwardly fiddling with the keyboard’s buttons - hhhh wait what did that mean?? Did he not want to be seen close to u or something?????????? - HNGHHHGHG SAD HOURS o(╥﹏╥)o(╥﹏╥)o - oh well - you got up and reached for your guitar, since you supposed your day6 session needed to come to a close with the start of practice - “Hi guys! Sorry we’re late. We picked up some chicken after class! Let’s eat!” Chan announced as he entered the room with Woojin, who only waved amiably in greeting. - Felix began to scream in excitement again, to which Seungmin sighed at - so there you have it, ladies and gentlemen - that’s it - that was pretty much your life now

- it was a sad music video featuring a big crush on someone you knew didn’t feel the same way you did. - oh well, right? it didn’t really matter. what was important was that you were both friends, bandmates, and made music together. - so as long as you would still be able to have that, you didn’t mind.

- Saturdays were the self-proclaimed ‘Jisung and [y/n] Day’ !!! - they were a tradition that started ever since yall began to get along bc !! - Saturdays were boring and who better to spend it with other than ur bff?? - what possibly could be MORE fun than beating jisung in mario kart, huh?? - “STOP PICKING WALUIGI!” - “I DON’T SEE WHAT’S WRONG WITH IT, T O A D” - so when jisung appeared at your front door with an extra guest on YOUR day, you couldn’t help but raise a brow - this was the first ever guest to barge in ‘Jisung and [y/n] Day’, and you would have appreciated some sort of heads-up from ur neighbor slash bestie……,,,, - “[y/n]!!! seungmin wanted to hang out today so I brought him along~ let’s go play some smash!!” jisung announced, dragging the other boy in as he kicked off his shoes - what the MCFRICK - U DIDN’T EVEN FIX UR HOUSE - HOLY CHICKEN NUGGETS,,,,, WHAT WAS SEUNGMIN GOING TO THINK OF YOU AND YOUR HOUSE - AAAA - screw YOU HAN JISUNG - “uh, I hope u don’t mind,,,, I didn’t know jisung practically had a second house…” seungmin smiled sheepishly, bowing in respect to u “also, i didn’t know you were neighbors.” - “nah, it’s okay. make yourself at home, but please fix your shoes as you take them off. Jisung always leaves his lying around here and it doesn’t look nice,” you sighed, fixing jisung’s nike slides - “please take care of me,” seungmin mumbled as he arranged his sneakers to be neatly aligned with your slippers - you let jisung show seungmin to the living room, where he started to fix up the console so you could all play - meanwhile, you prepared some unhealthy snacks consisting of chips and soda - “I swear, [y/n] always picks metaknight and it’s so annoying,” jisung rolls his eyes, taking a chip from the bowl you put out on the small coffee table in front of the tv. - “you’re just salty that I’m actually good at the game,” you fire back, hitting him. The three of you settle comfortably on the couch and pick out your characters. To your surprise, Seungmin picks Peach and all you can do is laugh. - “really?” you snicker, picking metaknight like usual. - “princess peach? wow, seungmin.” Jisung chooses Samus and joins you in poking fun at Seungmin’s choice. - the boy stays silent, only pulling out his glasses from his bag. In moments, the game starts. - It takes only mere seconds for Jisung to let out an ungodly scream as his character gets thrown off the map by a certain pink princess. - “SHUT UP SEUNGMIN! WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU?” - “I didn’t say anything,” Seungmin responds non-chalantly and begins to chase you. - The game session of Smash continues in this manner: Seungmin targets Jisung, Jisung screams, and you avenge the poor squirrel boy. Occasionally, Jisung fights back. There’s a lot of screaming, but you know from which single mouth it comes from. - When you get tired of playing, the three of you stop and take a break to jam. Jisung borrows your guitar while Seungmin plays on the living room piano. You sit on the cajon and cook up a steady beat for the others. - It’s no surprise to you when Seungmin picks a song from Day6 and starts belting out the chords on the piano. Of course Seungmin would pick a Day6 song to play, because that’s so Seungmin of him to do. But even if you’ve heard ‘When You Love Someone’ a million times, you’ll never get tired of it, most especially because it’s him who’s singing it.

- The first time you realize that okay, maybe you’re starting to have feelings for your band member, was during your first performance together as a band. - At first, you were opposed to it. When Chan burst into the practice room one day with a flyer for the school talent show in hand, you didn’t hesitate to express your disapproval towards it. Honestly, you weren’t even sure why you were so against it, because you knew that on any other day, you’d welcome the opportunity with open arms. - But of course, overridden by the majority decision, you had to do the performance anyway. - It was only during the performance day itself that you finally figured out the reason why you didn’t want to do it. - When you saw from behind the curtain all the empty seats that would later be filled, something inside you erupted. There were now going to be a million people watching you. Every note, every strum had to be precise— - two hours before the performance, your members had gone into a frenzy. - two hours and you were missing - you weren’t in the practice room, you weren’t in the backstage, you weren’t anywhere - jisung was FREAKING out because he knew you didn’t exactly love performing in front of people, so he told everyone to start finding you immediately!!!!!!!! - chan was also extremely worried bc hhhh you should have told him, the leader, about ur concerns - aghh chan felt bad for not realizing it - but despite everything, it wasn’t jisung or chan who found you having a nervous breakdown at the back of the canteen, it was seungmin - and when he found you crouched down, sobbing quietly, he didn’t go on a long and crazy rant about how he was really worried for you - he didn’t give you a long speech of encouragement - no, when he found you crouched down and sobbing, he simply crouched down too and wrapped his arms around you - no words, just a very tight hug - which is funny because like - a minute after seungmin hugged you (which by the way, he hadn’t let go), your hiccups died down and… - u stopped crying,,,, - omg seungmin a sweetheart - strangely enough, you…you really just stopped crying for the first time in like,, 30 minutes - and even when seungmin couldn’t feel you shaking and hear you sobbing, he continued to just hold you - in fact, you were the first to break away, when you started to apologize for disappearing so suddenly - you started rambling about how you were justreallynervousandyouwerejustsosososorrysomethingcameoveryouwhenyousawtheseatsofthetheatre - and when you were done, seungmin offered you a warm, genuine smile, gave you a quick hug again, then said, “it’s okay!!” - on your way back to the others, he told you, “hey. if you feel nervous onstage, just look at me, okay?” - when you came back, jisung STARTED GOING ON A LONG AND NERVOUS RUN ABOUT HOW HE WAS SOSOSOSOSOSOSO WORRIED and you BET that squirrel boy squeezed u like there was no tomorrow - the rest of the members gave u some words of encouragement, too!! - so in short,, u were able to perform :>>> u were able to get onstage !! - and like !! seungmin kept his promise :DD - when you felt a pang of nervousness mid-song, you whipped your head to look at seungmin, and he indeed give you a smile before he started singing his verse - it was then that it hit you. - you knew, by the suddent skip in your heart, that it hit you. - oh no. you liked him.

- so when seungmin starts singing ‘When You Love Someone’ while playing on your old, beat-up, living room piano, you’re immediately reminded of why you started liking him in the first place. - maybe it was the way he smiled at you that day, maybe it was the way he hugged you like you were the only thing in the world that mome— - RRRRING!!! RING!!!! - holy mcfrick u were having ur Thoughts! And u were having a jamming sesh!!! Who could THAT BE,,, SIGH??? ＼`•̀益•́´／ - Ring… leader bAnG cHaN is calling…! - o shoot it was chan - “hello?” you spoke into the phone, halting your music-making - “Hello?? [y/n]?? I have news. I’m setting us up to go on Battle of the Bands! Sign-ups just opened!” - “O SHOOT HELLO?? THAT’S GREAT!! Hasn’t that been our goal since we started! We finally get a shot at winning the trophy!!!!! I’ll go tell the others. Jisung and Seungmin are with me,” you grinned, beaming. - Jisung mouthed a “whos-that” and you mouthed “chan” back. - “Okay! Just wanted to let you know. See you on Monday!” - beep - “Well, what’d he say?” Jisung asked, on the edge of curiosity. - “Battle of the Bands! In! Our band! Chan signed us up!” you smiled, hopping up. - “WHAAAAT?! WAH, NO WAY!” Jisung screamed, and he rushed to you to give you a big bear hug. - Seungmin stood up as well. “Hey, that’s great! I’m proud of us!” - guess your ThoughtsTM were gonna have to wait until after the event. - “C’mon! Let’s practice something! And later, let’s order something nice to celebrate!” you suggested, sitting back down on your cajon.

- “oh frick!” you exclaimed, setting down the banana milk on your usual cafeteria table - jisung jumped in surprise, felix waved, and seungmin looked up from his triangle kimbap - “what’s up with you?” seungmin questioned, wiping his mouth - “i forgot to do our math homework! do you have a copy of the questions? guess I won’t eat lunch now,” you groaned, shoulders slumping. - jisung shook his head. “sorry, our class already submitted that.” - “holy heck dude, our class submitted that already?” felix gasped. - jisung narrowed his eyes. “uh?? Yeah, dude. Like, last week.” - “OH SHOOT I DIDN’T DO IT” - “felix—" - “sometimes I wonder how I’m friends with such an idiot,” seungmin sighed, handing you a bright, red notebook. “here. you should be glad you’re classmates with me. questions are on the page with the pink sticky. DON’T flip the page because the answers are there, and I’m not having you leech off my perfect grades.” - you let out a ‘tch’. “who says I can’t perfect math without your answers? Besides, I’m betting it’s not even perfect.” - “thank you seungmin for lending me your notes!” seungmin imitated in a high-pitch voice before taking another bite from his triangle kimbap. - “whatever. Thanks I guess,” you retorted, copying down the questions and answering them one by one. - it was times like these when you were grateful to have such a competent classmate, even if he was really hard to ask notes from. now that you thought about it, there was no other person seungmin would lend his notes to except you. - you tried your best not to make any sort of expression, but inside, you were leaping for joy. who knows? maybe the tyrant-in-academics kim seungmin had a soft spot for you ???? >:DDDDD - lucky for you, you were able to complete the homework before class started. Unfortunately, you needed to start walking back from the canteen to avoid being late, so you didn’t have a chance to grab a bite. - once jisung and felix left the both of you (they had PE next and went towards the gym), seungmin shoved a triangle kimbap in your hand. - “finish it before we go inside the building,” he mumbled, halting just in front of the doors. - OK WHY WAS HE BEING SO NICE - U WERE KIND OF CONFUSED - AND ANGRY BECAUSE - STOP!!!!! HE WAS MAKING U BLUSH N STUFF - NONONOONO - in attempts to hush ur red cheeks, u scarfed down that kimbap like it was nothing. U inh a l ed that thing - anyway, after that whole thing, you guys went back to your classroom and waited for your teacher to come. - you were really happy bc of that whole cute thing with seungmin, but your happiness didn’t last long as your eyes trailed off to see seungmin handing his red notebook to some other girl who’d asked for it - you buried your face into your arms. - of course. there it was. - there was that constant reminder that okay, you weren’t really special to seungmin. in that moment, when he lent you his notes and gave you something to eat, you were just a friend, a bandmate, who needed help that he could give. - he didn’t like you back like that, he just had a big heart. - it was probably the same when he hugged you that time before your first performance. he was just… being nice. - it was okay. you should have been grateful to have such a good friend who was always watching out for you. - you shouldn’t be selfish and want more than that.

I’m in shock!” - “it’s okay,” jisung breathed, “I won’t tell anyone, I swear. Not even him.” - “we’re never bringing this up again, okay?” you told him, completely exasperated - jisung nodded frantically, equally as spooked as you were - and just to absolutely make sure, you made him go to seungmin and check if he was asleep - “yup. knocked out.” - “honestly im kinda glad u saw it for urself instead of waiting for me to tell u bc I don’t know how I would” you admitted, fumbling with your hands. - “id be mad if u didn’t tho” - “HOW COULD I NOT TELL U?? ID BE TOO PANICKED NOT TO!” - “let’s close the lights and go home, okay? it’s been a hell of a day.” - on the way home, jisung helped u cope with the sitch by talking about other things, like band - u were really grateful,,, - as much as possible, u didn’t even wanna THINK of seungmin - hell it was gonna be so awkward when he’d come back from school…

- seungmin was back 2 school babey!! - great : ))) - yeah maybe for the rest of the world but like - NOT U LMAO - the frick - the frick would u even say to him if u saw him huh?? - “hey we kissed”??? - “ur lips were really chapped bc of dehydration”???? - “I have a phat crush on u???” - n is for NO - u weren’t gonna say ANY of that - which is why - you guessed it - interactions with seungmin were kept at a minimum B) - ‘only interact if absolutely necessary’ - and u got jisung on it too - so u wouldn’t feel so lonely not sitting w felix and seungmin during lunch, jisung offered to hang with u from time to time during ur Stage of Awkward Avoiding - “dude its ok I totally get u idk how id approach him if I were u” - “riGHT?????” - but like - u couldn’t avoid him forever - chan changed practice times from every mwf to every d a y after school so u could prepare for battle of the bands - and oh heck was practice the most awkward thing in ur life - like ofc not while u were playing bc music is a medicine that fixes all - but like during the idle moments u weren’t playing, u didn’t even know how to act - “hi [y/n], did you see tha—” - “HUH what excuse ME I NEED TO PEE BADLY BRB” - ok talking to the others were ok ofc - u still goofed around w felix etc - but u just - u couldn’t talk to seungmin - u were really afraid he’d remember the thing - actually more than being afraid of remembering the k@#$, you were more afraid that he knew and didn’t mean it - BUT ANYWAY - woojin took notice of this Immediately bc he’s just great at noticing things like that - not in a creepy way, but woojin always watches - I’d go so far to say he knew more than chan, simply by observing life around him - everyone has their own way of watching out for each other - jisung’s a companion. felix says. seungmin does. chan listens. - woojin watches. - so after noticing your peculiar exclamations and jittery fingers (he sees you rubbing them together as if they’ll break if separated), woojin does what he does best - he finds out what the frick frack paddy whack is wrong - after practice, he slings an arm around your shoulder and says one magic word - “chicken” - and also another magic phrase - “I’m paying” - so whO ARE U TO REFUSE THIS FREE CHICKEN HUH - the rest of the band members are kinda confused like - ok we get that woojin’s having a random chicken craving but why wont u bring us why are u only bringing [y/n] - and to that he can only say - bc [y/n] is the only one who will finish one whole chicken if I order it - we stan some hungry fellows - anyhow - after arriving at woojin’s favorite chicken place (some place called hwang’s chicken or smth) and ordering, you finally break the beans - “uhh,, woojin, so why did you bring me out?” - a magician never reveals his secrets - “you seemed kinda troubled during practice, so I thought you could use a good meal. eat well, okay?” he smiled warmly at you, making u wanna cry - omg what have u done to deserve this Angel - “how’d you know?” - “well, your guitar was kind of out of tune and you didn’t tune it to perfection this time.” - “HOW DO YOU KNOW I ALWAYS TUNE MY GUITAR TO ABSOLUTE PERFECTION” - he sweats - “I-I JUST DO!!!” - ok so you had a feeling woojin already knew what was up so why not tell him right - “anyway, thanks for this, woojin!!” you told him, bowing. “i’m actually, yeah, kind of in… a predicament with seungmin.” - “oh?” he asked, sipping his water. - heeding woojin’s advice, you avoided him less - but that DIDN’T ERASE THE FACT THAT YOU STILL HAD A HARD TIME TALKING TO SEUNGMIN OK - you avoided him less, but still couldn’t talk to him like you used to - u cant just TALK to someone u KISSED - and seungmin had taken notice - he could not understand why you had that weird period of avoiding him, then began to talk less with him??? - “jisung, did I do something wrong?” - “MY GUITAR IS CALLING GOTTA YEET” - he could only frown. every time he tried to make some conversation with you, you’d seem pretty distant - and this WORRIED him ok - seungmin wasn’t the type of person to be okay if someone was uncomfortable with him, especially a good friend - weeks in, he just couldn’t take it anymore - The game plan was simple. Blackmail Jisung into bringing you to the practice room, then tell him not to allow you to leave. - “Felix, I need Jisung blackmail.” - “For what?” - “To save a friendship.” - “Easy, just threaten to leak his stan twitter to the entire school.” - “p e r f e c t” - and just like felix said, - it worked - jisung, under the immense pressure and stress of having his embarrassing stan account leaked to everyone, caved in and brought seungmin what he wanted after school - you were confused as to why jisung kept apologizing on your way to practice, but when he threw you into the room screaming sorry and locked you in, you understood why - “okay, [y/n]. let’s talk.” - “h-hi, seungmin.” - “why have you been avoiding me? or whatever. talking to me weirdly. can you stop it already? because I miss you.” - “please seungmin,” you sighed, “don’t do that.” - “Don’t do what?” he demanded. “I’ve literally had to start each conversation with you for the past how many weeks, and each conversation always ends on some awkward note! I don’t get it, so explain! I don’t see why you’re telling me not to ‘do that’ when I literally don’t know what ‘that’ is!” - “The thing where you say stuff like ‘I miss you’!” you yelled, clenching your fists. “Stop saying things like that to me if you don’t even like me!” - “What?!” - “You do so many confusing things, and I’ve had it!” Your eyes were starting to brim with tears. “You do stuff like tell me you miss me or hug me for a really long time or give me things you don’t just give to friends! You make me feel like I’m someone special to you when I’m not! You have the audacity to do things like k-kiss me and not even mean it!” - Seungmin’s eyes widened. “K-Kiss?” - “When Jisung and I came over, you kissed me and passed out! You can’t just do that to people, especially people who’re prone to developing these big, stupid feelings—” you explained, wiping away your stray tears. - “That wasn’t a dream?” - “What do you mean a ‘dream’? That was very much real, and I’m angry about it because I don’t want to be kissed unmeaningfully! E-Even if—even if it’s from someone I really like! Especially if it’s from the one I really like!” you told him, mustering your strength not to cry even more. Why even were you crying? It wasn’t so bad! - “I’m really sorry!” Seungmin exclaimed, extremely exasperated. He couldn’t believe his ears, the kiss wasn’t a feverish dream after all! “I thought I had dreamt that whole thing up! I swear, I didn’t know that I wasn’t dreaming. I’m really sorry, [y/n].” - “Whatever,” you muttered, “but now since my big secret’s out and you didn’t mean it anyways, can we just never talk about this again? Forget that I like you. I’ll get over you, I promise. L-Let’s just please continue to be good friends.” - “Who said I didn’t mean it?” Seungmin challenged, stepping forward. “What will you do if I said I did, I did mean it? With all my heart, I meant it?” - U WERE SHAKING - THIS WASN’T IN UR BOOK - U DIDN’T PLAN FAR ENOUGH AND EXPLORE THE THOUGHT - “Did you?” you shot back, fists still clenched. - u weren’t about to back down tho - “I did,” he confessed, “I meant all the other stuff too. And I could mean it again.” - “So mean it again, then.” - Gently, Seungmin cupped your face and allowed his eyes to linger on your lips for just a little while. And, when that little while was over, he stopped hovering and leaned in. - In that moment, you suppose you could say he really did end up meaning it — just as much as you did, at least. - And when it finally sunk in that he had kissed you once more, you thought: - Oh boy. Looks like this typical sad music video just got a whole different concept.

Valentine’s Day- Joshaya Fanfic Chapter 1

Josh woke up suddenly with the familiar ringing of his alarm reverberating in his subconscious. It took him a couple of seconds however to notice that the song that usually woke him up- "It's a beautiful day," by U2 was NOT what was ringing in his ears. It was an obnoxiously loud and terribly sung birthday song. The tone was off-key and the voice sounded like one of those munchkin videos. Who the hell was singing like that?

He sat up on his bed and spun around towards the direction of the singing to notice none other than his college best friend, Andrew Watkins. Andrew was excitedly jumping up and down in the middle of Josh's dorm room as he bellowed out the birthday song at the top of his lungs and threw a bunch of confetti in the air, thereby littering Josh's impeccably clean dorm room. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAREST JOSHIEEEE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUU! YAYYYY!"

"HOLY CRAP! ENOUGH DREW!" Josh yelled as he felt his ear drums close to bursting from his friend's terrible voice. "I got it. It's my birthday. Please, if you care about me, just stop!"

"HOW OLD ARE YOU NOW?! HOW OLD ARE YOU NOW?!" Andrew continued singing even more loudly.

"OH MY GOD, DREW! IM GOING TO KILL YOU NOW!" Josh leapt off his bed and charged towards Andrew, ready to pummel him.

"OK! OK! I'M DONE!" Andrew held up his hands in surrender, and backed off from a clearly annoyed (and still sleepy) Josh. "Dude, chill. It's your birthday. Why would you want to start off with the murder of your adorable friend?" Andrew gave him a wide, toothy grin.

Josh just shook his head in disbelief at his friend's antics and took a look at his room which was now all covered in pink confetti. "Holy crap. Dude, you cleaning this up right?" Josh felt he was going to have a heart attack. He wasn't necessarily a neat freak but he had just spent a good part of his Saturday a few days ago cleaning up his room. And now, all of his hard work had been completely destroyed.

"Dude, nah, I can't, I got an exam in like two minutes. I shouldn't have even come here." Andrew responded as he checked the time on his phone and dropped something that looked like a cake box on Josh's desk. "This is from Jas." He said, pointing to the cake. "She said it's your favorite. Although, I didn't know you had a favorite cake? You like never eat cake. You eat veggies like all the time. When did you and Jas talk about this?"

"Dude, so you're seriously not cleaning this up?" Josh glared at Andrew in disbelief.

"Noo-ppe. Love you though man. Happy birthday! Jas and I will see you for lunch? We're treating you. Sounds good?"

Josh didn't respond. He kept staring at Andrew with a sour look on his face, and already thinking of ways to get revenge on his friend for trashing his room on his birthday of all days and just running off.

"O...kay. Silence means consent. Lunch it is! See you later, bud. Bye!" Andrew quickly ran off, sensing from the look on Josh's face that he had sufficiently angered the birthday boy.

Josh ran his hand through his hair and sighed loudly in frustration. "I'm going to kill him." He muttered to himself as he glanced around at his room once more. His attention finally settled on the cake on his desk. With a slight smile on his face, he walked towards it and opened the box, curious to see if Jasmine, Andrew's current girlfriend and Josh's friend as well, had really remembered his favorite cake flavor. He couldn't even remember having that conversation with her. He opened it up to see a scrumptious red velvet cake and his smile grew even wider. He would make sure to say a big thank you to Jasmine, after he killed her boyfriend.

He picked up the cake and was about to put it in his little dorm fridge when he heard his phone ringing. Quickly setting the cake down, he rushed to his bed and fumbled through his bed covers until he found his phone buried underneath. Glancing at the caller ID, he felt his smile grow a thousand times wider and his heart skip a beat as he quickly answered the phone. "Maya?" He whispered her name softly.

"BOING!" Maya responded enthusiastically. Josh grinned from ear to ear at the sound of her voice. He could almost picture the look of pure happiness on her face as she yelled out her favorite nickname for him, and he couldn't help but feel his heart expanding with euphoria.

"Boy, aren't you cheery this morning. To what do I owe this awfully excited and sugary cheery Maya?" He teased lightly.

"To your BIRTHDAY, you old man you!" Maya exclaimed and immediately commenced to sing the birthday song. Josh almost dropped the phone in shock as he listened to her angelic rendition of the song which his best friend had butchered just a few minutes before. He had heard of Maya being a good singer but he had never actually heard her sing by herself. The rare occasions in the past that he had witnessed her singing was during Matthews Christmas family gatherings. But even then, they were all singing traditional carols together as a group so he hadn't noticed anything particularly special about the beautiful blonde's voice...until now. My God, I could listen to this all day, he thought dreamily to himself as he felt himself completely entranced the more Maya sang.

"Happy birthday Josh! Wishing you lots of happiness today!" Maya exclaimed joyfully after she finished singing. Josh was literally tingling with euphoria as Maya's voice still echoed in his ears. He laid down on his bed, pressed the phone gently to his ear, and took a few seconds to consider his next words before he spoke.

"First of, my God, Maya, you have an amazing voice. I mean, I'm speechless right now. I'm pretty sure that was the best birthday song that I've ever heard in my 18 years of life. Please don't tell my parents or Cory that. Especially, Cory. He might be devastated." Maya burst out laughing at this comment, the sound of which filled him with a soothing warmth. That's another sound that I could listen to all day, he thought to himself. "Secondly, thanks for calling. You've definitely made my day after it was almost ruined by my soon to be ex-best-friend."

"Oh no! What did Andrew do?"

"Oh you know- woke me up with a birthday song that wanted me to kill him and then also kill myself and scattered my entire room with pink confetti- which by the way- he's not cleaning up. So yeah, I was pretty pissed before your call."

"Shoot! Why didn't I think of that?" Maya exclaimed amidst laughter.

"Uh no. You would have been on my naughty list if you had done that. You're on my good list now. Don't ruin it kiddo."

"Yes sir! Anywho what are your plans today birthday boy?"

"Hmmm," Josh thought as he took a quick look at the time- 9:30am. He had to go to class in an hour. Maya had called him at the perfect time. And then it hit him. Why was she calling at that time? Didn't she have school? It was a Wednesday morning.

"Hold on. As much as I'm enjoying this convo, don't you have school right now? How are you able to talk on the phone?"

There was a short pause where Josh could almost hear the wheels in her head turning trying to come up with a credible excuse for why she wasn't sitting in a classroom in that moment.

"Um, well I AM in school." She finally spoke. "Just not in a classroom..."

Josh burst out laughing, already anticipating where this was going.

"So you're cutting class- to call me." He responded, shaking his head slightly. It was classic Maya.

"Well, not exactly," Maya responded. "I might have asked your brother if I could go to the bathroom and I kinda haven't returned yet. It's been ten minutes now I think? I should probably get going before Riles organizes a search party to come looking for me." This comment made Josh burst again into laughter as he imagined his niece recruiting a search party which would probably comprise of Lucas, Zay, Farkle and Smackle- their friend group- roaming through the halls of Abigail Adams high school looking for Maya who was probably hiding in a bathroom stall. He laughed so hard he started to feel tears at the corner of his eyes.

"This is hilarious." He responded as he wiped the tears off. "Yeah you should probably get going because my adorable- but slightly overprotective niece- will definitely do that. She kinda takes after her father don't you think?"

"Oh my God, they're practically twins!" Maya quickly agreed as Josh smiled warmly. He absolutely adored his family and was even more grateful that Maya was practically a part of it. One of his favorite conversation topics with her whenever they ran into each other at family gatherings was poking fun at his family's crazy antics.

"Alright, Maya, I'm going to let you go before you get caught. Thanks again for calling."

"Wait, not so fast!" She yelled. "You still haven't told me your plans! It is Valentine's Day after all, and your birthday. I assume you are busy?"

Josh grinned- not exactly sure where she was going with this. Was she trying to ask him out? He decided to entertain her for now by giving her the details of his day as he currently had planned.

"Well no. I'm actually not too busy today. I have class, a lunch with Andrew and Jasmine- though that might probably turn into a funeral so stay tuned-" he heard Maya giggling at this, which made him feel warm inside- "and then more class, and that's about it. I got lots of homework to catch up on though. But in terms of birthday stuff- I'm coming over to Cor's on Saturday for dinner. I assume you will be there?"

"Um yeah duh. I practically live there." Josh laughed.

"Good point."

"So what I'm hearing is that Boing Matthews doesn't have a romantic dinner date planned on this beautiful day of luvvv?"

Josh chuckled- sensing exactly where the conversation was going. "Um no, I do not actually. Shocking, I know. Not sure what it is about NYU girls- I seem to be invisible to them apparently." That last part was a lie. Since starting his Freshman year of college, he had probably been asked out like 3 times which made him quickly realize that girls were a lot bolder in college than they were in high school where the norm was to wait for the guy to make the first move. One girl- Emily- he had actually gone on a date with. She was in his Spanish class, the first semester, a pretty blonde from Canada. They had shared a love of Spanish language and culture. One of Josh's dreams was to study abroad in Spain at some point in his college career. One date with Emily though was enough for him to realize that they would be better off as friends, so he quickly made sure things didn't progress any further.

And then came the weekend he would never forget, just over a month ago, when he accompanied Cory's class as a chaperone to their annual ski trip and ended up finally admitting (and accepting) his growing feelings for his niece's best friend. His affection for Maya had slowly developed over the years with every encounter he had shared with her. He wasn't sure when that affection evolved into something more but it probably started after she barged into NYU last Spring and started spilling her feelings out to Josh, Andrew, Jasmine and Charlotte during their small hangout party.

After that moment, Josh never forgot the intensity of Maya's gaze, the conviction with which she declared her feelings for him and the reasons she felt that way. His heart was racing as he listened in shock to every observation that Maya made about him. He couldn't believe that she had been paying that much attention to him- that she found him so worthy of her attention despite everything that was going on in her life.

When Maya was done speaking, it immediately occurred to him that he had never met a girl like her before- fearless, persistent, and extremely protective of those she cared about. In that moment, he was no longer able to dismiss Maya's feelings as an adolescent crush. They were genuine- he could feel them. Maya was a lot more mature than he had given her credit for and he couldn't help but be speechless as he gazed at her in silent awe. He had promised Maya at the end of that encounter that he would start seeing her differently. And he had kept that promise, especially in the quiet moments when her gaze, her mischievous smile and her words would invade his daydreams. I like you Josh. I'm in it for the long game. For a whole summer last year, she was all he could think about. And even though he was still bothered by her age, he could feel his walls getting weaker until they completely crumbled near the warm fireplace at the ski lodge when she gazed at him with utter adoration and declared yet again with utmost confidence- "I like you, Josh. It's you I like." He couldn't deny the effect she had on him anymore- his rapidly beating heart, the butterflies in his stomach, the elation on his face when he realized that she still liked him, and definitely not the cowboy.

Long story short, they were now playing the long game. Friends, until they could be something more at the appropriate time. And so far, he was satisfied with the way their relationship was progressing in their one month of playing the long game- frequent texts, occasional calls and of course the goofing off and flirtation whenever he would stop by the Matthews to do his laundry. There was a small part of him however that worried that Maya would be so focused on the long game and on someday that she would miss out on her high school experience. Zay raised this concern when he had first visited the Matthews after the ski lodge trip, and it had bothered him ever since.

As far as he knew, Maya was quite innocent when it came to relationships. She had never dated before and Josh was her first serious love interest. As much as Josh hated to think about it, he didn't want Maya shutting herself off from the possibility of other relationships or interests because of him. After all, who knew if he was the right person for her? Anything could happen in the future. He didn't want Maya putting her life on hold for a future that was far from certain. But he also couldn't imagine a future without her in it, and if she did seriously pursue other love interests, then perhaps someday might never be...

Needless to say, he felt conflicted about whether he had been selfish in promising her a someday and a long game which sounded nice in theory but in practice was probably extremely confusing and complicated for a 15 year old girl in high school. Was he ultimately hurting Maya, especially if they continued to grow closer and things didn't work out the way they both desired? It was a question that lurked in the back of his mind and haunted him in the moments when he felt their bond growing stronger- like now, on the phone, laughing and flirting with each other, neither one particularly ready to let the other go although they were both running out of time.

high school tech crew!monsta x: sound technician!hyungwon

((ok so like ik they’re all performers and shit but like hear me out: monsta x in all black working hard to make sure this production goes AMAZING))

anyway since dj h. one is a thing i feel like hyungwon would be in charge of sound for the technical crew

like... just imagine him on his lil soundboard adjusting everyone’s levels

and doing soundcheck

and getting really anal about making sure everyone’s taking soundcheck seriously bc godDAMMIT WE NEED TO MAKE SURE YOUR MIC IS GOOD FOR THE SHOW PLEASE STOP FOOLING AROUND AND SING LIKE YOU’RE PERFORMING

sometimes forces stage manager!minhyuk to check mics if an actor is sick/late/missing and also he can sing so why the fuck not

oh god hyungwon during tech week though

will sleep through ALL his classes bc of how late he’s staying after school for tech week

will sleep during free period

will sleep while waiting for the rest of the crew to gather in the theater

will accidentally fall asleep while eating dinner

will NOT wake up until someone tells him it’s time for soundcheck or rehearsal’s about to start

i promise he isn’t always this serious tho like he will make his meme faces to certain lines of the play or musical or lowkey roast any particularly bad actors just bc he thinks it’s funny and he can hear minhyuk stiffle a laugh

and sometimes he’ll crack a clever joke over the walkie talkie to mic crew/stage hand!jooheon and stage hand!hoseok and they’re trying to restrain their laughs but he can still hear assistant stage manager!kihyun shush them in the background

but the real reason he does it is to hear your lil giggle in the background too

you’d be close to hoseok and jooheon bc you’re also a stage hand who just wanted to help paint sets

and he just thinks you’re the cutest fucking thing but he doesn’t know how to talk to you so he just says dumb things in hopes that you’re listening too

and jooheon and hoseok totally knows that you and hyungwon have things for each other and they’re so tempted to just lock you two in the booth and force you guys to confess but projections technician!changkyun would kick their asses if he can’t get in the booth and make sure everything’s good to go

so they do little things to try and get you guys to interact

like jooheon will ask “hey y/n can you wake hyungwon up so we can do soundcheck” and watch u get all flustered bc jesus FUCK sleepy!hyungwon is so cute n peaceful and you don’t wanna disturb him

and hoseok will wave you over when it’s dinner to sit with him bc hyungwon is sitting across from him and hyungwon will drop his fork in his pasta in shock and also bc he’s too tired to properly do anything

and he’ll ask hyungwon to tell you the joke he said over the walkie talkie that you missed and hyungwon gets all flustered and stutters a lot but you still laugh bc he’s so damn cute

and then hoseok suddenly gets up like oH I THINK HYUNWOO NEEDS ME YOU KIDS HAVE FUN and you’re both sitting there w wide eyes bc diD HE REALLY JUST DO #THAT

and also bc hyunwoo works w spotlights so WHY

and neither of you know what to say so you’re kinda just staring at each other and making small talk

and this continues for the rest of tech week and everyone’s catching on that you two like each other and also getting increasingly frustrated bc neither of you are doing ANYTHING

like even the cast is talking about it y’all are like the hottest gossip topic in this entire production

and finally it’s opening night and hyungwon’s just like this nervous wreck inside and keeps accidentally dropping mics and shit and you’re just watching this all worried so you try to help but that just makes him more nervous bc HIS CRUSH IS SO KIND AND HELPFUL AND PERFECT

and you just like place a hand on his shoulder and tell him it’s okay and this show is gonna be amazing and he nearly has a heart attack but his eyes glisten and your heart kinda melts

for the pre-show rituals (one being everyone standing in a circle and crossing arms to hold and shake hands while the director offers encouraging words) he stands next to you every time just so he can hold your hand

and then everyone breaks off but you hold onto his hand so he doesn’t leave immediately and so you can tell him “break a leg” (bc saying good luck for theatre is a jinx or something) and all he can do is blush and mumble “you too”

the show starts and everything’s going great until ONE DAMN MIC ISN’T WORKING and you start worrying bc you know hyungwon’s gonna be so damn stressed and you can’t even see him until after the show’s over

but it’s ok bc jooheon’s able to fix it once that actor comes off stage

but you’re still worried about hyungwon bc you’re sure he’s beating himself up about this even when the rest of act 1 AND act 2 go great so you go out of your way to see him after the show

and he’s shutting the soundboard off by the time you get to him and he lights up immediately when he sees you and you just crush him in this big hug and he’s shoOk to the core bc HIS CRUSH!!! IS TOUCHING HIM!!! WILLINGLY!!!!!!

but then he comes back to reality and hugs you back and he finally realizes that you might feel the same way bc of how you’re acting and he can totally feel your heart racing

so once the hug breaks he kisses your cheek and holds your hand and thanks you for worrying about him

and jooheon peeks out from the side of the booth bc he’s putting mics away and he gives you this look like DO IT

so you kinda just mumble “yeah anytime” and lean in and peck his lips and you’re flushing at this point and avoiding his eyes like lowkey embarrassed bc you did that

and he just smiles so wide and brings you back into a hug and you’re melting into each other my god im such a mess

and after that night, he doesnt let ANYONE hold your hand during pre-show rituals

you bring him coffee before brush-up rehearsals bc you have free period at the end of the day and have the time to do so

and let’s not forget shy good luck kisses :)))

basically the rest of the shows are fuckin GREAT bc he has you and you have him and you’re both working together to make this production the best your school has ever seen and god bless the two of you

d2 beta thoughts

alright so ive tried every part of the beta and it’s, it’s destiny for sure it is. the limited content we’ve been given access to really just feels like slicker, shinier ol destiny. pvp was fun as usual (kicked ass in quick and did fine in comp), even though none of the weapons were entirely to my liking for it. inverted spire was just, just really pretty and nice and chill and idk What failsafe even is but im as psyched about her as everyone else. and oh, oh ghost. i love it so much. homecoming wasn’t super exciting on account of, hey i saw it all during gameplay reveal, but yknow, good stuff still. i’m interested to see how it plays out in game - is that how it all starts? - and i hope the mission after takes us down into the city. again, Kind Of Wish they’d waited to pull the obligatory cityfall storyline a bit. show us more of the city and the tower to teach us to properly love it before taking it away.

it’s honestly not a very comprehensive beta. i was really interested in stuff like improved social interfaces, the world spaces being given extra importance, how they’re gonna implement the background setting’s lil narrative tidbits into the game, etc. But like, Mission, PvP, Strike, of course it’s gonna be real real similar to d1. i don’t know if im cool with or disappointed by how much it feels the same.

i guess the worry is that there won’t be all that much content in the base game, and the beta doesn’t really assuage my fears about that. uhm. iunno. i’ve been thinking too much about WoW again, i’m really not in a good frame of mind to be judging destiny 2 from that point of view. I’m excited anyhow, and I really look forward to visiting the farm on sunday. just, i just really wanna have more of the aesthetic and feeling of the story woven into the game. one of the more personal issues i have with this type of game is that it’s unwilling to commit itself to be either an mmo or a singleplayer. i’d be extremely content to Not Be constantly saving post-humanity, to not be the young wolf, regicide and slayer of crota etc. i’ll never buy into the idea that i’m playing the Chosen One if i can blatantly see five other chosen ones right next to me. in that sense i kind of enjoyed the vanilla destiny story. i liked just being someone who delved into dangerous places across the system. of course that definitely wasn’t the aesthetic goal they had in mind for that plot, just something that came out of a real unfortunate situation.

that’s pretty off-track though. back on topic of the beta, i only tried out striker because of course, that’s me jam. shoulder charge is now an actively bad melee ability in pvp it seems, which really bums me out but i understand the need to nerf it. no more insta-kills for anyone, and overall, that’s a fucking good change and i’m happy to lose the ability for the sake of not being stickied to death. i’m grudgingly having fun with the way fist of havoc works - i still maintain that it’s lost some of the flavour but if the end result is i don’t feel underpowered i guess that’s alright. ALSO i think new nova bomb is neat and chill. it looks really cool and is actually dodgeable if you’re paying attention so like, finally, and suck it warlocks. fusion rifles STILL need a nerf imo.

can i not sit as a titan though. i saw a hunter sitting once but all i do is kneel and that’s, frankly, lame. i should be able to relax!!

ssso yeah. for sure it is a destiny game and for sure the parts i’ve seen are only improving on the original, which i already love (maybe a bit too much, objectively). i just, i just really wanna visit titan the moon though. that’s what i dream of. by and large i don’t care that much about advances in graphics in games but the one thing i am invested in is that now they’ve started making actual waves happen instead of faking it and i’m, i love that. again unrelated as hell but i jumped off the Dreadful Wale in DH2 to go chasing a whale and swimming around in first person view with these waves just felt remarkably close to the real experience to me. my brain actually reacted with a ‘better get back to the boat before you get tired’ after a while.

ok yes done i love the sea the worst part of destiny is that there aren’t any real good proper ghosts which means there will be no ghost pirate ships damn

Chapter 4.

King

9:22 pm

2 week later

"Ok, so what happens if he' found guilty of all charges".

Tiana asked. I exhaled, taking a sip of the wine she gave me and shrugged my should.

"It all boils down to the judge. But from what I hear, the testimony Trent gave some weeks ago pretty much tells the DA everything they need to know. Illegal unregistered weapons, he has a laundry mat to cover it up and we already have him down for everything else".

She exhaled nodding her head.

"I just wanna make sure we're safe after all this is over".

I gave her a reassuring smile.

"I'll do everything I can to see to you guys safety.

I starring at her with a smile. Stop King, look away. Shit who was I kidding, my eyes were glued. My mind flooded with lustful thoughts. Either that or it was this wine.

"You ever think about going back to school?"

I questioned. Trying to get a little more comfortable with her.

“Yeah, I have. All the time, but with two kids and no help, it wouldn’t be that easy jumping back into the shake of things”.

I shook my head and shrugged my shoulders.

“Anything is possible. I think you’re capable. You’ve made it this far”.

She smiled warmly, sipping the glass of wine in her hand. Looking over at the TV she then placed her glass back on the table and looked at me.

“What’s your wife like?”.

I began getting chocked up. Clearing my throat and taking the rest of my wine down I shook my head.

“She passed away a few ago. Cancer”.

She grabbed her chest and shook her head. I could see she didn’t mean to bring up such a topic. But I guess since we’re being honest with each other, it needed to come up.

“Im so sorr-”

I smiled genuinely and shook my head.

“There’s no reason to be. Things happen for a reason. As long as I got my daughter, I’m good”.

Tiana

9:32 pm

Stupid. Stupid is how I felt. I shouldn’t have even asked. What possessed me to ask. It’s not my place to ask such a personal question. I stayed quiet. I felt horrible about even bringing up the memory. His laughter and light touch on my knee caused me to leave my thought.

“Hey, It’s ok. Really, we’re getting through it”.

“I’m still sorry. I know when people brought up my mom after she died always hurt me”.

He nodded and shrugged his shoulders.

“Yeah, I can understand that. It happened to me when it was new. But the thought of her not suffering and in Paradise is a even better feeling”.

I smiled. I know my mom was mentally suffering. I wonder if she herself made it into God’s Gates. I pray she did. I know she was sick, but It wasn’t her fault. I hope she’s happy.

“How has your daughter been managing?”.

Ok, now I realize I’m over stepping boundaries. But I gotta know, maybe I can give him advice on how to help her with it.

“She’s uh, not really talking about it. She seems happy, but at some point I catch her just starring. Not saying anything, just daydreaming. I wanna talk to her about it but I don’t wanna push her”.

I nodded in understanding.

“Hey you wan some advice”.

He laughed, nodding his head, getting a little comfortable on the couch.

“Talk to her, because nobody did it for me. And it made me angy. The less I talked about it, the less I felt that people didn’t care about how I was feeling about the situation”.

He shook his head.

“I don’t know how to, I’ve never been in that situation”.

I smiled, my next move was a little off the deep end. But I really think It could be helpful.

“How about, I talk to her”.

He laughed, shaking his head.

“No, you don’t have too. Re-”

“No I’m serious. Who better to talk to her about this then a women who has lost her mother as she has”.

I could tell that he was thinking about it. He placed his fingers on his chin and began his thinking process/

“It’s the least I could do. You’re helping me, I can return the gesture and help ya’ll”.

Finally answering after sitting there and rubbing his chin for a good 5 minutes, he looked up at me and nodded.

“Ok...That’s fine with me”.

I smiled and clapped my hands.

“Ok, so tomorrow. I take her to do some girl stuff and talk to her, and you take my boys and do some boy stuff”.

“I don’t kno-”

I smacked my teeth and waved him off.

“Come on, I ain’t gonna take ya baby. And I trust you’ll look after mine correctly”.

He laughed, extending his hand. I smiled, reaching out and shaking his hand then sitting back and drinking some more wine.

King

The Next Day, 2:00 pm

“So has she said anything other then what she’s been saying?”.

Neal questioned. I shook my head, checking my watch for the time. I was suppose to be Meeting Tiana at 2:30 and I haven’t even left the office. Luckly I had my secretary pick up Sanaa and they we’re waiting in the Lobby for me.

“Not much Neal. All that she has said is that she wants this case over and done with so she can continue her life....but I did uh...”.

Neal sat on the edge of my desk, looking at me suspiciously.

“You what?”.

“I hired her, as my assistant”.

Neal laughed, standing up and placing his hands in his pocket.

“You what? How’d you manage to hire a suspect as your assistant”.

“Hold on, first she’s not a suspect. She’s not even a client. She’s a informer that you’re trying to get information out for your case”.

He laughed putting his hand up in defense.

“You’re right, my fault my fault....Wish her the best of luck”.

I laughed, shaking my head and escorting him out my office so I could lock the door. Rushing down the hallway, I hopped on the elevator, sending him a head nod before the doors close. I took off my suit jacket on the way down and grabbed my keys from my pocket. As soon as the door open, I seen Sanaa”s face. He lit up smile made my stomach drop with excitement. I caught her in my arms as she charged towards me. Picking her up, I kissed her cheeks then placed her back on her feet.

“What took you so long?”.

I smiled, holding her hand as we walked out my building and into the Manhattan busy streets.

“I had some business to handle. But remember this morning I told you that one of my new friends is going to hang out with you today”.

She nodded cheerfully skipping down the sidewalk.

“Yes, I do”.

“Well that’s we’re we headed. I think you guys are gonna have fun”.

She nodded, looking up at me.

“I hope so, what are you going to do while I go with her?”.

“Im gonna hang out with her boys. Now listen if you get uncomfortable or anything just call me ok”.

She shook her head and chuckled softly.

“Ok Daddy”.

Approaching the car, I opened the back seat, watching her throw her book bag in then dive in behind it. She must have some sweets, cause her ass is on 1000. I shook my head, walking to my side of the car, getting in and starting the car.

Tiana

2:40 pm

“Zip your coat Papi...Now remember Kingston is gonna hang out with you guys for a few hours ok. I need you to be on your best behavior or Ima kick your ass”.

Trent laughed, pulling his hat over his ears as we sat in the parking lot of the ladies spa. I told King to just meet me here since this was the first stop on me and his daughter Sanaa’s list. I had a nice evening set for us.

“What am.. what are we gonna do?”.

I stepped out the car when I seen King’s car approach. Closing the door, I opened the backseat door and shrugged my shoulders.

“I don’t know Trent. But I’m sure you’ll have fun”.

Taking my phone out, I took a quick picture of Titan and posted it to my Instagram.

I smiled to myself, throwing my phone to the front seat and unstrapping Titan.

“Get out Trent!”.

I watched as he quickly removed his seat belt, then unbuckled Titan’s car seat. I smiled as he pulled it out the car and nicely say it on the ground beside him. I guess he would become an amazing gentleman when he gets old. I pulled Titan’s hat over his head stood as King parked then got out the car. He looked nice, real nice. His pants fit him all nice and shit. White shirt crispy as fuck. Damn, he looking like a daddy today. Shaking the thoughts from my head, I smiled at his adorable daughter as she emerged from the car and stood beside him.

“Tiana, this is Sanaa. Sanaa this is Tiana”.

She smiled, extending her hand for a handshake then looking at Titan and Trent.

“Nice to meet you gorgeous. This is Titan and Trent”.

She smiled, looking at the both of them, then up at her dad. She seemed super sweet. Very energetic too.

“Alright let’s get this going. Tiana you have my number if anything happens”.

I laughed, handing him Titan and his diaper bag.

“And you have mine. We’ll be ok. Titan isn't walking. I mean he can but not good. Um he eats regular food but has 2 bottles. One for at 5 and one for at 8. You have to make them”.

King waved me off, taking the car seat from the ground and placing it in his backseat. I watched as he got the situated in his car then walked back over to me. He smiled down at his daughter and kissed her head, then looked at me.

“Keep my ba-”

“Man keep my baby safe. He’s the one under 1″.

He laughed, nodding his head and backing up to his car. I smiled, grabbing Sanaa hand and walking back to my car. We both got in then looked over at each other with a smile.

“You ready?”.

She smiled shyly and nodded her head.

Takehisa: *sweeping...passes Maki's desk and spots something* "..." *picks up a small object in the shape of an '8'* *sighs* *walks...knocks on Maki's door*

maki: *YAAAWN* commander? *rubs eyes*

Takehisa: "You left this behind." *holds up the '8'*

maki: oh, thanks. im gonna head back to bed now. see you in the morning.

Takehisa: "..." *nods*

Hirotsu: "Likely...The explosive was likely triggered remotely, which means..." *gestures to both ends of the alley, then the rooftops* "Follow the target."

gin: *nods and heads off*

Hirotsu: *exhales...then walks to the other end of the alley* "...I take it you find this amusing?"

???: "Hey, just giving you a heads up is all."

Hirotsu: "This is Port Mafia territory--tell your friends to be gone."

???: "Not that easy--they were staking out the basement for an access point. Tell your people to clear out...Can I bum a smoke?"

My car was rear-ended but I don’t have car insurance?

"My car was rear-ended but I don't have car insurance?

Someone rear ended my car today. My insurance has been expired for a while now but I still called the insurance company and they filed a claim for me. When I mentioned that my insurance had expired, the lady who filed the claim said that the adjuster will call me on Monday and give me the details. Though the accident wasn't my fault, I am worried about not having insurance at the time. Also, nobody was injured in the accident but my back bumper had a very minor scratch. Was what I did wrong? And should I be worried about anything?
