Haikyuu!! Top 5 Ships: Oikawa

** SOUTH AMERICAN SPOILERS BELOW **

Haikyuu!! is wonderful, in part because unlike other series, the sky’s the limit on how many ships can set sail and be embraced by the fandom. I wanted to go through some of my favorite characters from the series and my Top 5 favorite ships for them! 

Of course, we have to start with my favorite “Trash King”: Toru Oikawa! 

5. Kuroo x Oikawa

The rarest of the pairs in this post, but I find it hilarious that despite these two never sharing a panel of screen time together, Furudate loves to constantly sketch these two characters together. 

Personality-wise, these two actually have a lot in common. Kuroo gives off that “con man” vibe in Chapter 401 to those around him, and Oikawa is constantly being described as putting on a “fake persona” in public by Iwaizumi. But, both former captains have the respect of their team and are great leaders. 

These two together would be like two gossipy high school drama queens sent on a trip to the shopping mall together. Both physically exude that “sexy, too-hot-to-handle” persona, but in reality are a pair of nerds obsessing over aliens and docosahexaenoic acid. Maybe it would’ve been too much for the universe to handle had they shared a scene in the series together. At least we have Furudate’s sketches...

4. Ushijima x Oikawa

Okay, so I’ll be honest. I was not originally a fan of this pairing -- I mean, Ushijima’s practically Oikawa’s biggest rival outside of Kageyama, so how could anyone picture them romantically involved? 

Well, then I read this fan fiction, and I realized that there could be something there. Unlike Oikawa’s dislike/rivalry with Kageyama, that basically stems from his jealousy and insecurity that his kouhai will succeed him as the better setter, Oikawa’s main rivalry with Ushijima is just beating him in a match. Sure, Ushijima aggravates Oikawa in the series by labeling his pride as “worthless,” but we all know how our Grand King comes back to make Ushijima eat those words later on, don’t we?

I think there’s an aspect of this ship that is similar to the Iwaoi pairing -- in that Ushijima’s stoic, genuine, and grounded personality is polar opposite Oikawa’s calculating, put-on, and often petty persona. Ushijima is basically the antithesis of Oikawa in the series, but as a ship, his quiet reserve opens up a lot of avenues for Oikawa to be himself and -- fan fiction-wise -- have a platform to open up and monologue his way through personal growth. It’s not my favorite ship for Oikawa, but after reading the linked fan fiction, I can see the appeal.

3. Sugawara x Oikawa

Okay, so this ship is just fun. There’s such a creative fandom with OiSuga, whether it’s them as Slytherin wizards in a Hogwarts AU, or as college roommates, or pretty much any scenario, there is so much creativity with this pairing, partially because of just how intriguing a concept this ship is!

I think the draw of this pairing is how different it is from the more popular Oikawa ships, like Iwaoi. Sugawara is a “team mom” kind of like Iwaizumi, but Suga’s personality couldn’t be more different than Iwaizumi’s. Sugawara has a fiercely supportive stance as a teammate, but he’s also a setter, and a calculating/manipulative one at that -- much like Oikawa. It’s canon that Oikawa nicknames him “Mr. Refreshing,” because he’s so different from Kageyama in terms of communicating and reading his team -- similarly to Oikawa, it could be noted. And you have two pretty setter squad members who are easy on the eyes, but have much more going on under the surface in terms of insecurities, pride, and goals as third years. 

And you wouldn’t think that Oikawa would work paired with another setter, but since Sugawara isn’t a “Kageyama-level prodigy,” it gives Oikawa the ability to be the better player on the court, so his pride isn’t hurt, but leaves Sugawara available as the more emotionally stable, “cool” partner. Plus, the two can share their own insecurities about being “replaced” by Kageyama as the better setter, but Sugawara can shut down any trash talk by Oikawa if it gets too overbearing. 

Basically, you have two characters who are more similar than they appear, but still have enough differences to be an interesting duo. It’s like if a sour patch kid and a candy apple hooked up. I’ll let you decide which is which. 

2. Hinata x Oikawa

So...Furudate has laid the groundwork for this ship since the first time Hinata spiked that ball past “The Great King,” but it wasn’t until the Rio mini arc that we really got this ship to come into its own. Hence why I put a spoiler tag on this post, for you anime-only’s who haven’t been blessed with the greatness that is the Rio Arc. 

Of any pairing in Haikyuu!! One could argue Hinata and Oikawa have done the most “shippy” things, with the exception of #1 below. I mean, they’ve:

* Taken the most epic, beautiful selfie together and sent to their exes rivals * Went on multiple dinner dates together (during the day and at night) * Are on a literal first-name basis  * Played two-on-two beach volleyball together (multiple times) * HUGGED ON LIVE TV DURING THE OLYMPICS 

I’ve wanted to post more on this, but Oikawa and Hinata actually have a lot in common, besides being Kageyama’s rival. They’re both naturally athletic, though definitely not “geniuses” or “prodigies” like Kageyama or Hoshiumi. They’re just two individuals who literally live and breathe volleyball and try to push themselves to their limits at being the best they can be. And their dynamic works really well -- Oikawa may be petty and snarky, but Hinata takes it all in stride and is a literal walking ball of unphased sunshine. Oikawa would probably think he has the upper hand in the relationship; at least, until Hinata speaks up and shows he’s not quite as naive as he appears. He’s just literally that optimistic/nice. One can definitely see the appeal of shipping these two similar-but-different characters. 

While some ship it as just a “fling in Rio,” and some ship it more as a fantastically developed friendship -- I mean, Hinata went on to play for Brazil, so you KNOW those two kept playing each other in matches and at training camps -- it’s still become one of the most unexpected, yet welcomed Oikawa pairing!

1. Iwaizumi x Oikawa

Okay, so this shouldn’t surprise anyone. But yeah, Iwaizumi and Oikawa have been paired up since the start of this series, and for good reason. 

There is so much to like about the pairing: The childhood friend aspect; the Setter/Spiker dynamic Haikyuu!! is so infamous for; how Iwaizumi takes none of Oikawa’s dramatic self and pushes past the “bs” to make sure Oikawa takes care of himself; how Oikawa teases Iwaizumi, yet is always by his side; how the two are so in sync, despite their different personalities; godzilla vs aliens...

...but I think I love best how they, similar to Hinata and Kageyama, are rivals who pursued their dreams: Oikawa making it to the Olympics on the team of his idol and mentor, and Iwaizumi as an Athletic Trainer on the team of his idol and mentor’s son. It’s so poetic, and I love in the final chapter that they finally get to face each other...even if it’s not “technically” against each other in a game.

This ship is probably one of the most iconic in Haikyuu!! and it’s hard to say anything that hasn’t already been stated, but I love it. There’s a reason it works so well, and Furudate has blessed us with all the hints and crumbles of canon for us fans to work with. Again, the greatest gift Haikyuu!! has given us is the fact that we can ship so many different characters together, and it all for the most part fits. ^^

Hiiiii midnight it’s been a while! I’ve been pretty the air at school is pretty chill rn and I haven’t been as stressed as normal! Anyways I just finished reading the haikyuu manga and none of my irl friends are going to read it so I’m DYING to talk to someone about it while it’s still fresh on my mind (also I remember you saying you read the manga but if you didn’t don’t continue reading for spoilers!) well ANYWAYS the nekoma match took YEARS of my life let me tell you and the cage metaphors and tsukki and kuroo’s battle of the blockers it was probably one of my favorite matches. And KENMA at the end actually having fun ahahah I loved loved loved this match.

And then fukorodani’s match with akaashi was hard to read but the “we are the protagonists/stars of the world” made my bokuaka heart go places but akaashi just breaking was so surprising to see and the fact that they don’t even win nationals makes me sooo sad I wanted at least one team I knew to win nations also

AND THEN THE NEXT MATCH HINATAA the day that scene gets animated is the day I combust someone give HINATA a hug he just couldn’t play for w h a t and then they losttt and he was crying alone and coach ukai and takeda were absolute kings in this scene. Buuuuttt we did get to meet the tiny giant and I thkught he’d look real intimidating and scary but he actually seems pretty cool! AND THEN KAGAYAMA unpopular opinion I actually can’t STAND him sometimes he really went I win while hinata is really cryingg and I know it’s for plot but hsjajsjs

The time skip omggg okay yachi saying that date tech went to finals and the Miya twins beat karasuno actually made my heart really happy. I do wish when they were third years they could if won but getting third is also really incredible and YAMAGUCHI WAS CAPTAIN I really need the crew as their years fics. The beach part was so fun to read I loved meeting them new people and OIKAWA I never though hinata and oikawa would get to the point of being good friends but I loved seeing it

AND THEN RHE MATCH BETWEEN HINATA AND KAGEYAMA okay kags backstory was sad but the “one day you’ll okay with someone who is even better then you” and that someone being hinata he finally beat kagayama it makes me sooo happy. Also bokuto making everyone clap for him I love it AND THE NEXT PART WITH OIKAWA ahahshd I don’t even want to know the outcome of the match but I was sooo sad it ended (and is it weird that I want a spinoff with natsu hinata playing volleyball that would be so cool)

I don't know what's with Tumblr not giving me notifications (also I haven't checked it much) so I'm late at seeing this but I AM SOO HAPPY U READ THE MANGA BECAUSE WE CAN NOW SCREAM AT EACH OTHER! I actually read the manga then went back and rewatched the series and started rereading the manga till the end of nekoma match then a week of exams happened and I became antisocial.

Like I was so pumped up for the nekoma match when I realized that was not yet animated and reading the first few pages of the manga was hard cuz my dumbass brain didn't wanna read right to left and interpret instead went rushing through the panels ( hence the re read to savour the storyline and characters) . But once I got into it the match was soo good? Like Kenma really went I don't care you're my friend I'm gonna tear u from limb to limb and did so calmly? I agree with the cage metaphor when he broke through it I was so giddy and I remember Suguru ( Nohebi's captain) commenting how he didn't like Tsukki's vibes and realising that it was same as Kuroo's and hating them both :)

The Fukorodani's match fed my bokuaka heart and was a precursor to Bokuto's 'im a normal ace' part. The tiny giant was kind of a disappointment but that's life for you.. and the kamomedai match man the battle of the little giants - I was so rooting for Hinata but when he collapsed I didn't get it at first but then it hit me and takeda's talk about taking care of body being a part of volleyball and all made me cry. Also Kenma coming to check up on Hinata? Soft. Heart breaking. Cue waterworks.

Somewhere deep inside I always expected Karasuno to win the nationals but they lost and I wasn't even bothered by it at the end

So.. unpopular opinion I kind of don't like Kageyama? He is always being insensitive and a dick to Hinata and when says I'm going forwards or some shit when Hinata collapses really made me dislike him very much. I don't really think their dynamic is healthy so kagehina became a big no-no for me.

But post time skip I loved that they could settle it and work together as equals. But Brazil?! My god, little Hinata become so accomplished-Ninja Shoyou- and the bit abt Kenma sponsoring him, Oikawa meeting him and becoming friends, seeing all these great high school players in the same team- let me tell you Atsumo and Sakusa on the same team with their competitive vibes with Bokuto - man I laughed like crazy at the Bokuto Beam, its so dorky and utterly him- and Hinata was perfect. Is it weird I want spinoff of the MSBY jackals and their shenanigans? I loved how they showed every ones career and Tsukki still playing 🏐 after saying it's just a game - he must have been more hooked than he let on-

I agree a spin off with natsu playing 🏐 would be soo Cool - going all like but Onichan you can't come to my game then everyone will want your autograph and you'll embarrass me-

I wanted more but with the open ending I can now imagine anything and subsequently my haikyuu brainrot is spreading

I too don't have any irl friends who watch it and I resigned myself to being alone in this but man ranting is so satisfying isn't it?

My haikyuu phase doesn't seem to end soon but it's just that I can't get into the head space for ATLA and I feel so guilty for it, I have so many updates from fics I've subscribed and I can't muster any interest in checking them out.

On another note it's so funny in a show where the only confirmed couples seem to be Tanaka and Kiyoko yet I ship so many of them!? In my mind they are all gay and I ship them. My fav ships are probably- iwaoi, daisuga, BOKUAKA, kuroken, and weirdly enough I was kinda obsessed with sakuhina, atsuhina, oh and sakuatsu. I. Just. Think. They're. Neat.

1. First creation and most recent creation of 2020: this hmc edit was the first anime edit of the year (the very first one was red queen edit but it’s lit related so I’m not gonna link it here) and this itachi edit was the most recent one.

2. One of your favorite creations from 2020: probably this noragami edit. I love how it ended up looking especially the coloring since what I had in mind was totally different from the final result

3. A creation you’re really proud of: this team 7 edit and this itachi edit cause I stepped out of my “comfort zone” there and tried out some new styles and techniques so I’m really proud of making something that actually pleased me.

4. New style you tried this year and a gifset that uses it: i tried painting style!! I think i used it a little in each of my edits hehe but this bnha edit and this karasuno edit use it the best:))

5. A creation that took you forever: this bnha edit. I couldn’t get any motivation or inspiration plus i had exams back then. whatever i did i did like in 15 minutes and went to bed thinking i liked it. but the next I ended up hating the whole thing so it took at least 3 weeks (maybe even over a month) to finish it.

6. Your creation from 2020 that received the most notes: this noragami edit. I know this isn’t much but i didn’t even expect it to receive half of that amount lmao.

You can probably guess but this list is gonna have like all of my coloured art lmao because I'm always too lazy for those. I honestly like this one a lot! After reading the hq prototype manga I wanted to do a panel redraw so I did it and actually coloured for once and it turned out pretty nice

Another screenshot redraw. Tokyo Battle was really just filled with content that the anime ova Did Not provide and the first time I saw this scene I freaked out a little internally, idk if it was in the manga as well but it really made me love Akaashi and Fukurodani a lot

Yea. I really didn't write a lot this year bc ~✨lack of inspo✨~ amiright but this one I'm actually pretty proud of and am capable of reading it without feeling incredibly embarrassed (the bri/chat one from last year is... hard to read, to say the least hahaha, also I have a hard time remembering When exactly I drew/wrote what)

I saw an art of Hinata in other schools' uniform and there wasn't a Fukurodani version so I made it! They're my favorite (then again I literally have four favourite schools and idk how many fave characters in this damn series) so I had to do it heheh

Again, I won’t say I’m happy with how “abrupt” everything ends. But, idk, maybe it’s a blind trust to Furudate on my part or just me “taking it easy” (callback to Hinata’s advice to Hyakuzawa and his high first touch in the match with Inarizaki), I’m honestly not mad.

Yes, we got robbed of the approximately 5 years of Karasuno and other teams that we love so much, but given the build-ups (I’m talking about the Brazil panel on chapter 15, Kageyama and Hinata talking about a showdown on international level, Furudate’s message about writing an Olympic arc and other things), this “Final Arc” actually makes sense. Furudate has planned this from a long time ago, from the very beginning I might say.

A lot of people been saying this, but yes, it’ll be too repetitive and maybe uninteresting to some people if we move on to 2nd and 3rd years. Why? Coz we’d have same InterHigh preliminary, same Spring Tourney preliminary, same Nationals, and obviously, same rival schools (maybe add more). Personally, I don’t mind if these happened. I mean, more developments for the other characters? Sign me up! My other favorite sport mangas also followed this pattern (Daiya no Ace and Yowamushi Pedal). But I can’t deny, some of my friends thought that it’s “boring” (I disagree but I respect their opinion).

While this “Final Arc” is so sudden and I still can’t bring myself to say goodbye to Haikyuu!! yet, it is happening. There’s no way Haikyuu!! still running until I’m 80 (I wish). Tho, keep in mind that it takes 7 years for Furudate to finish 1 high school year. Therefore, this final arc won’t just end in months. Take it easy and relax, guys. It’d probably take a minimum a year (my bet is actually more than 2 years lol).

If this still doesn’t convince you, you can follow my coping mechanism. Drop Haikyuu!! for a while. Pick it up later (say 3 months) and read it from the last arc. It’ll make much more sense that way. It might even soothe your longing and pain.

Now, moving on to explanations and predictions:

Kageyama in a National team and fought in 2016 Olympic honestly surprised no one. He is a volleyball-sexual (to all shippers out there, me included, puh-lease, we need to admit it) and he’s that good. His stats is one of the highest and he was still a first year at that time. Once Furudate gives us the updated stats, I know it’ll be even higher. He’s a genius/prodigy/whatever else you wanna call him.

As for Hinata, okay, I know this will surprise people, but I always have a headcanon that he’d live in a foreign country lol. It turned out to be true, even though the backstory might be different. My reason for this is because we never see his dad (tbh we almost never see the members’ parents, hence why my imagination goes wild) and it’s not impossible for his dad to work overseas. So I always headcanoned that maybe, once Hinata graduated high school, he might want to/have to live with his dad in that faraway country. ‘Have to’ is probably more than 'Want to’ but because this is Brazil we’re talking about and volleyball is big there, Hinata might want to challenge himself more tho. I saw someone commented in Reddit that Hinata possibly went to Brazil coz he didn’t get invitations from universities. Tbh, I’m a bit doubtful. As Coach Hibarida said, the small players don’t just sit around and do nothing. They showed themselves and their abilities and those qualities caught the attention of the scouting agents. Hinata made a name for himself in Nationals. Oikawa once said that he’s the kind of player that a setter wants to toss to (and Miya Atsumu kinda confirmed this with his line of “I’ll toss to you one of these days”). Bokuto also said how even though he’s tiny, his presence is huge. Hell, Hinata probably became a hero for people (especially small people) who saw him on TV. Similar to how Little Giant became his hero. There’s no way no university is interested in him. That’s why I think he has a personal reason for coming to Brazil.

This is probably a stretch and just my hopeful self screaming, but as a callback to Kageyama when he said he wanted to win with this team (this team as in, the current Karasuno), my prediction is that it could be a foreshadowing on Furudate’s part. It could be that somehow, someway, the current Karasuno would be placed in a same team again (probably with some of the rival teams’ members too) and they will fight together in whatever the match Furudate has planned to happen. I just wanted to see my children again, okay, so lemme hope.

I always think about Kageyama’s line too much: "What have you been doing these past 3 years?!”. Yes, what have you been doing these past 2-3 years in Brazil, Hinata?! Hinata’s also a volleyball-sexual, so he must be doing some training himself. I don’t believe that he has lost his passion for volleyball (like The Little Giant). And he has a promise with Kageyama too. He could be running and jumping around the sandy beaches in Brazil and it made his speed, stamina, and jump even more impressive (hey, just make him has the highest spiking point please).

Personally, this is the thing I’m most curious about. I have no idea, why in 2017? So it's a 3 years journey to 2020 Olympic? Why Coach Washijou said the limit is 2 years? So does it mean Hinata will transfer back to Japan after 2 years in Rio? Oh my, Tsukishima, Yamaguchi, and Yachi went to the same university is adorable.

Okay, so when did U-19 match happen? Would we get a flashback about this? After so many build-ups and introductions, we should at least get a flashback, yes? Oh, and this is connected with my (until now) last point:

Idk if people noticed this, but in chapter 369, Kageyama and Hinata weren’t shown in the panel when the new Karasuno team was training/running. Where were they? I know that there’s a Dream Team match consisted of 52 hand-picked players divided into 4 teams after Spring Nationals, one of the members in each team is a middle schooler. sorry, this answer is kinda confusing, but essentially i fell behind on haikyuu a LOT at around the time the nationals were starting and i just never really caught back up. i really loved the series though so i’ll probably finish it at some point.

fav characters: bokuto koutarou!!! least fav characters: oikawa toorufav relationship: i say the entirety of karasuno’s relationship with each other. but especially kageyama and hinata’s relationshipfav moment: the summer camp with fukurodani and nekoma and the other schools was lots of fun and was one of my favourite arcs! other than that though, one part that really left an impact on me was that one specific panel during the shiratorizawa match where it shows ushiwaka suppressing kageyama and hinata, but then their teammates help them up. it was a beautiful moment and it really gave me chillsheadcanons/theories: kageyama and hinata are in love, change my mind.unpopular opinion: oikawa’s a lil bitch and i hate him with every fibre of my being please don’t try and convince me otherwise i’m tired. how’d you find it: i’d heard a lot about it on tumblr, but the one thing that finally convinced me to watch it is that this fanart of kenma passed my dash where it’s him as a third-year or something and his hair is longer and his roots are all grown out, and he’s looking over his shoulder at the camera. it was beautiful.random thoughts: this series is so feelgood and well written, and i really love that even people from different teams are friends with each other and help each other out! it’s a refreshing change from other sports manga where other teams are the enemy and everyone hates each other.

Now that this match is finally over, what are your favourite moments and matches in haikyuu? Let's think about better times!

good morning there ^.^ (well, it’s morning here, though it’s a terrible rainy & cold Sunday in Milan, and if I hadn’t to study hard I’d lie in my bed for 4 more hours, giving that we went back from clubbing at 3 am…) and as usual THANX for making me dive into better memories about what used to be my fav manga… (it’s not that I have a substitute for it… let’s say I am eagerly awaiting the SAKUSA arc which will repay me from all this pain…).

Well… you asked a HUGE question.

In the sense I have loved pretty much all matches up until this atrocious one we have FINALLY left behind (in the most ashaming and bad way, and I fear the next chapters when we will have to stand atrocious Boku No Hero Karasuno & Kenma Kitten’s promise to rematch in the future…with all the crap connected I mean; but at least it won’t last much, and we will roll soon to witness the inevitable - for the plot - Fukurodani’s defeat - which will UNDOUBTEDLY happen - I guess against Hoshiumi’s team, so that the awful midget can have revenge for his mentor, later… *sighs painfully at the perspective*), so to make a list is hard.

I’ll try to explain myself, so consider what makes the match BEST to me is the service the game described does to volley. Then here is my personal preference about dynamics, surprises, and general development of (believable) players (in the sense I never care about anything regarding the poisoning orange shortie, because for me HE DOESN’T EXIST as a player).

Out of all that, there is also appreciation for the artistic drawing.

Think that those who are my fav players still my fav players ALSO because of what we see when they play, and that gives a further point to my list.

Standing at THIRD place is the match against Shiratorizawa. It would have ranked FIRST if only Shiratorizawa would have won (because volley-wise, they were just way stronger than Karasuno, though I understand why Karasuno had to win, to give a next arc to the whole manga). The whole game was brilliant, I ADORE ALL Shiratorizawa guys and three of them (Ushi, Tendou, and Goshiki) rank among my very faves of the series and here was so much about volley there, plus I got to see Tsukki’s blossoming AND in there there are some of my favorites Kags+Tsukki’s interactions, so it was something I dearly loved all time long (they are the tankobons I have reread the most actually, and a couple of them I had to rebuy for I had trashed the pages by turning them too often). Despite the flows, the pace of the match was also amazing (I talk about the manga, because you see in the anime they switched the way the set ended, and that was something I HATED fully. The manga always has the upper hand for me). I don’t have a particular fave moment… I properly LONG for the whole of this arc. In Italy the third series is broadcasting now on Man-Ga Sky channel and every Monday & Thursday I watch it three times (then I am recording it all, so I can have it stored like the other seasons). It never gets old. Never ever, and in fact it gets even better with time.

At SECOND PLACE there is the first match against Aoba Johsai. The highest point of Furudate as a volleyball related mangaka. The peak where REAL VOLLEY prevailed. The only time I have actually been surprised by any Furudate has done, it was here. And boy, how I have loved it. You know already how all Seijou’s guys are absolutely loved by me. Then, easy peasy, there’s the amazing presentation of the twisted, yet ultra deep, ultra fruitful, ultra strong and mattering relationship between my adored Lord Kags and his only real senpai Oikawa, which is the most beautiful and deep connection in the whole of the manga, and the one which has the biggest sport-related value. But that’s only the core of a match where ALL the characters are perfectly depicted both in their human approach and also their volley related one. When that game happened, I had REALLY hopes that Furudate could have reached Takehiko Inoue’s (Slam Dunk’s mangaka) brilliance and truthfulness regarding what was supposed to be the subject of Haikyuu (namely volley). Up until the second Aoba match (where it was still believable that Karasuno could have prevailed), he was still on point. After that… eh. You know how I feel…

At FIRST PLACE stands Inarizaki’s match. I absolutely LOVED all the volley parts there. You’ll ask why if I found believable a little that Karasuno won against Shiratorizawa, I can put this game up first. It’s a right doubt you may have, but my answer is that if we take as factual the development Karasuno has patched up which made its players surpass Shiratorizawa, then they have a decent expectation to be valid opponents for Inarizaki. (but then, if they win BOTH against super teams as shiratori and inari… why the hell Furudate has made us suffer the sham of the nekoma game, the way he did? EXACTLY. And the fault stays at the Nekoma sham game, not at Inarizaki one). Inarizaki so far has been THE BEST TEAM Karasuno has ever faced. They are a perfectly organized team, with the most skilled (in general) players and with no virtual holes as a team and as a team force. EVERY player is a standout, and their team work is awesome. Plus they have the funniest dynamics in their players interactive windows we’ve got to see. Think that I have a fascination for twins since I have been a little kid, so you can imagine my adoration for both Miya’s guys. Practically during the Inarizaki’s match the only thing which has displeased me was the final part where Atsumu instead than talking with my Lord had to put up that dreadful pledge to the Orange Curse just to please the simpletons who still think somebody as useless and inapt as Hinata could ever play a real volley game among that kind of skilled and expert players. But that minor flaw was surpassed by the usual and awesome amount of indifference, sourness and cruelty Lord Kags has poured over the awful dwarf all game long (and past it) so I could easily overlook it. I also loved the difficulties Tsukki has faced there, and the fact this game was BY FAR the most setter oriented one. The whole game is a proper ode to setters and what they do and what they are… from both teams stands you can see it. The part which I loved most was the reflections Asahi does regarding the immense pressure a player has when their setter is virtually PERFECT, as Kageyama is. You cannot be a coward or a slugger if your setter is perfect, because when something bad happens, it’s always gonna be YOUR fault and not the setter’s one, being the setter practically always RIGHT. I loved that. Of course the majority of Haikyuu readers are far too unaware of volley (or they just don’t have the brain to understand) to catch the subtlety of that part, and its righteousness in terms of sporty dynamics, but I personally have been delighted when the panels sowed it into my heart. There, occasionally, Furudate was still trying to give volley a service. Too bad he’s pushed the farce which is Boku No Hero Karasuno so beyond what it shall have been permitted that he can’t avoid (to maintain his brainless fanbase) to mix into volley elements which are more belonging to a super hero manga than a sporty one. That fault, that sin Furudate keeps serving weekly, and which has reached a peak with Nekoma game, just can’t be forgiven by me.

And until I have to stand it, I will express my distaste still.

Now, let’s see when I can catch Sakusa and Oikawa interact with my Lord, one on court, the other HOPEFULLY up in the stands watching his adored kouhai.

It’s the only thing I wanna see.

But before i will have to stand my poor Bokuto beaten by another midget (please…) just to give the most annoying one a chance to be an avenger of him.

I DREAD all which separates me from the due Sakusa vs Lord Kags face off.

But for the will and wish I have to see in the same panels the Lord with Mighty Sakusa, I will stand all the pain, because when they’ll meet, my volley perfect pair will be conjuncted (although at first only as adversaries).

I patiently waited for Ch 27.

I am very proud of myself for scrolling away the chapter summary, the ultimate chapter spoiler. I am usually very impatient and is usually fine with spoiling myself with new chapters but this time I was able to evade reading the summary. The chapter was worth the wait. 

I’ve reblogged raws and the instant translations but nothing beats reading the properly translated chapters because I fully understand the context of the images and the dialogues. I have different interpretations from the raws and instant translations do not sink in right away. 

I misunderstood Doumeki’s eyes at first, I thought he was simply concerned about Yashiro’s injuries, which probably what Yashiro was pertaining to when he said that he is resilient. But Doumeki’s thoughts say that it was because he is apologetic to what he has done. I thought Yashiro was simply avoiding or being awkward towards intimacy but he actually probably caught on Doumeki’s thoughts, thus he looks away. He didn’t want to see the pained and guilty Doumeki. Quick guess is that Yashiro probably thought that he’s used to it or that he deserved to be forced, that was his fate as a neko, etc. Doumeki was not in the wrong and that if anyone should be blamed it should be him. 

“At that moment I realized, that I meant something to this person…”

I am thrilled that I am reading Doumeki’s thoughts in the black boxes, dang. This person’s struggle is real. Just look at those eyes: fear of the un-/certain. He wanted to keep thinking positive that what happened was “love-making” because Yashiro cared for him, showed concern, that he was valuable to Yashiro as he is to Doumeki. That that sex was mutual. Otherwise, he’s just like other men Yashiro has slept with, men who forced themselves into Yashiro, violated and dehumanized Yashiro, he would just be the gentle version of them. Apologizing would confirm this. Well, I understand why Doumeki would think this way. Yashiro never outright admitted who Doumeki is for him, for us readers it was implied, for Doumeki though, he was just assuming that what Yashiro was saying is that he is that important to him. Doumeki can never be sure by just assuming and he’s afraid that his assumption is wrong. He thinks if he was wrong, then what happened was rape/non-consensual sex rather than love-making. Honestly, I would think the same. Nothing beats hearing the actual words such as “I like/love you”, “you are important to me” and the likes, they are solid confirmation for what a person feels, the relationship and the feelings are official; otherwise it’s all just an assumption. 

Doumeki can also read through Yashiro.  Yashiro being so concerned of Doumeki, worrying about him not getting any sleep, allowing Doumeki to cuddle, reaching Doumeki’s nape, Doumeki is already sensing the impending doom: Yashiro leaving. It was so obvious! Even I would sense that without the hint from the last panel in Ch 25.  “Everything’s fine. Hurry up and get some sleep” With a smile on his face - Bitch, couldn’t you get any more obvious? LOL. Kidding aside, I understand Doumeki and his fears. “I’m afraid to close my eyes” and my most favorite one “I just wanted to bind him to me.” YES, ME TOO. I WANT TO WRAP YOU TWO LIKE A BURRITO AND TIE YOU UP AND SHIP YOU GUYS AWAY TO A FAR FAR AWAY PLACE, JUST THE TWO OF YOU, TOGETHER, ALONE. ***sigh***

“I don’t want to become any more-” vulnerable?? I have no idea. But this:

“It’s because it felt so good.” “But that was a lie.”

OMG. Are we back at square one? Well, not really but it reminded me of the hotel and car scenes and I guess Ch 24 too, when Yashiro and Doumeki are on a war on who’s gonna give up first and who’s gonna keep their walls up. Doumeki doesn’t want to probe too much, Yashiro is trying to build up his walls again, weak walls but he’s trying. Both can read each other all too well but both do not want to be honest of what they think the other is thinking. They are very cautious about each other.

I wonder who among those two policemen is the detective/police Yashiro always talked to. At least now we might have an idea who it is. Anyway, I love Ryuuzaki and Yashiro together. I think they are cute, well Ryuuzaki is because he is in denial of his affections towards Yashiro but this time, he can’t control his thoughts any longer. He is fully aware of his feelings, still denying it, yes, but he’s much aware of it now and he constantly needs to tame his thoughts on going in that direction.

I love how he finally noticed the shirt after a few minutes entering the car. Took him time but you notice right away when he finally realizes “the shirt”.

Yashiro in shirt = nasty-orgy-drowning-in-cum sex This is what it meant for Ryuuzaki. This whole scene was bittersweet for me. The “shirt” moment was the time that tugged Ryuuzaki’s heart and probably thought that there are men that need protection and care, not just women. In their conversation and Ryuuzaki’s thoughts, I sense that he has this typical mentality that men are strong and women are weak, physically speaking, of course. Thus women should be protected and saved while men are strong and should be saving and protecting the weak. Yashiro is a man but is “weak”, that he gets violated by other people and just asks to be saved, well at least that’s what that window sill memory tells him. Ryuuzaki wants to protect him but it contradicts what he believes into.  Nipple-biting I thought Yashiro’s reaction was because he hated being licked but he was rather reacting to the pain. “You never change” “I’m not usually into nipple-biting” But Ryuuzaki usually plays with Yashiro’s nipples, from the first time years ago and even in the earlier chapters when Misumi interrupted them. Ryuuzaki’s loosing all control, I swear. Both are childish in their conversation, classic. Oh and Yashiro cares about the shirt getting stretched. Hmm…I’m probably overthinking about it. I can say more about this scene but I’ll just save it up for another post. Though, I noticed, Yashiro’s switch did not come up. Isn’t it that his switch is easily turned on whenever anything sexual was done to him? Bitten nipple would definitely turn him on. I could be wrong though or the switch now only turns on for Doumeki. Hmmm….. Anyway, I just love that they look out for each other. 

I finally understood this swag/supermodel look Yashiro have here. It’s ‘thanks for looking out for me, back then and now, this is what I can do for you’. Yashiro is simply paying back and thanking Ryuuzaki for his feelings and his concern for Yashiro. Although he always acts like Yashiro is just a toilet, Yashiro knows that Ryuuzaki sees him as human, weak but at least he is human in Ryuuzaki’s eyes.

DAMMIT Ryuuzaki’s injured. I hope he gets treated right away. It looks bad, probably some organ damage might happen. I JUST DON’T WANT HIM TO DIE OKAY. He said “…he looked so damn good, it pissed me off”. My interpretation could be wrong but I think Ryuuzaki is conflicted again. The last time Yashiro wore a shirt, he looked horrible, empty, defeated, pitiful and reeked sex; this time, he looked happy, relaxed, glowing and refreshed yet he reeked sex. He imagined that Yashiro probably got into another kinky ordeal and happen to wear a shirt. His expectations on Yashiro in a shirt did not match the current Yashiro wearing a shirt that reeked sex. Little did he know why Yashiro’s butt is loose, not from multiple partners this time, but only from one partner last night. He’s not wrong though, there was still a lot of sex happened.

I like the transition from Ryuuzaki to a clinic or hospital but I seriously do not want to know about Hirata’s condition. If only Ryuuzaki aimed a bit higher, he would’ve gotten Hirata’s kidney. 

The comedy relief in this chapter is gold. I don’t know I laughed a lot when Yashiro corrects that his nipple was bitten not licked. Report properly and accurately guys. This is essential in any organization you are working for. Yashiro being an exemplary employee knows this, so take note of that, Whale & Shark. 

I am worried how and where Doumeki would look for Yashiro and where will Yashiro go next? Two locations…There’s 1) Misumi’s place - though I doubt he would meet up with him any time soon since he doesn’t want Misumi involved, he’s fine Misumi getting updates but that is it; 2) Kageyama’s clinic - to tend for his injuries and probably more meds, knowing he is not fully recovered, but what else could he be doing there? To confirm his feelings for Doumeki? Will he ever say anything to Kage? Highly doubting that though, as if I didn’t know Yashiro’s personality. 3) His office - reuniting with Nanahara and checking up Sugimoto (he was probably injured since he was supposed to be with Ryuuzaki, right?), and plan what to do next; 4) Doumeki’s place (?) - to check up on Doumeki??? Yeah, right. Yashiro is not there yet. Unfortunately, Doumeki would have to find Yashiro himself. If they do meet though, I am anxious at what Yashiro would do. Fire him? Ignore him like that never happened? Assign him another task, not his bodyguard anymore? What I’m sure though is that my heart will be ripped once they meet.

1: What is a scene that really got to you?In the anime, probably either the flashback to when Mob went ???% when he was young (I love the Angst™), or when Mob nearly goes 100% murderous intent and then instead goes like, 1000% gratitude. In the manga, the entirety of the fuckin Mogami arc (the part with the cat like Holy Shit) nearly made me cry, and I barely cry at things anymore. So like. That.

2: Who’s your favorite character out of the cast?I….love so many……..They’re all so good. All the esper kids are Good, Reigen is a good man, the Body Improvement Club members….Tome and Mezato…..fuck, even Dimple. I can’t choose…

3: Who’s your favorite esper kid?Mob, Ritsu, Teru, and Shou are all my sons thank you very much. I can’t decide between them. Mob is a Good Boy™ who needs a fucking break holy shit. Ritsu is a little shitsu but he cares a lot about his bro and I cry and he’s good too. Teru is also a shitty boy and also he wants to do good and I cry for him (I’m his parent now cause idk wtf his actual parents are, ONE plz explain). And Shou is a good but destructive boy who deserves better.

After Divine Tree arc.Temporary Accommodations by Originia is an interesting fic where, through shenanigans, Shigeo’s body is kidnapped without his like, spirit thingy in it (using the strategy from the Mogami arc) and Reigen tries to rescue Shigeo (which Dimple is possessing in Mob’s absence). I fucking love Ritsu in this story holy shit.The Adventure of the Red Shoes by dyingplatypus. Ho. Ly. Fuck. If you only read one story, read this one. It’s funny, it’s quirky, it’s in character. It’s solving a paranormal case about haunted shoes, and Reigen being cursed. It feels like it could be an actual happening in the anime or something. Seriously. Read this one. It has a little reference to the World Domination arc cause Serizawa is in there but like. You could proooobably read it without reading the manga.He Just Likes Dogs by reiqenarataka nearly made me fucking cry in a dentists office. It’s about Reigen and dogs, what more could you want?Signed, Sealed, Delivered by entrenchedis a series centered around Teruki and his crush on Shigeo, even as Shigeo crushes on Tsubomi. He would rather never tell Mob and continue being friends, over risking their friendship by confessing.do make tomorrow a sunny day by dyingplatypus is a series based off an au I mention in the next question. The AU is one in which Shigeo is taken by Claw at a young age, and thus works for them currently. Ritsu grew up without a brother, only knowing he had a brother at some point who presumably died. Both Shou and Shigeo are a part of Claw and work for it, and things Shigeo took care of during the normal universe didnt happen. (LOL) is a growing and powerful cult, Teru still wants to fight people. There’s many different perspectives in the series and they all add up to a unique experience (I’m still real fuckin amused by what Teru thinks of Shigeo in the first chapter of his POV fic)tomorrow isn’t always another day by suitablyskippy is another good fic on par with The Adventure of the Red Shoes. It’s also quirky, funny, in character, and shows Shigeo and Reigen solving cases. Of a haunted copy machine. Which Mob is preeeetty sure they solved yesterday. And the day before. And the day before that….Three by Ravenesta is an outsider POV story from a teacher’s perspective, on Shigeo Kageyama and his mysterious third emergency contact, Reigen Arataka. It’s pretty cool, and shows some good shit. Return. Continue. by UncannyCookie. A series. Takes place after Mogami arc, Shigeo isn’t doing too well, hands feeling too itchy and wrong after he was driven to choking someone in that unreal world. It’s bad. He’s fine. Teru tries his best to help. The second story, though, Teru is acting weird and Shigeo wants to help him but he swears he’s fine. 15: Do you have a favorite AU?I don’t know of too many aus, but most are real good. I like the art I see of the ageswap thing, where Mob is the adult and Reigen is the kid, although I don’t tend to read the fics about it. Idk why. But there are other good aus too, like any where Mob ends up being raised by Reigen. There’s an interesting one on ao3 I saw where Mob was taken by claw at a young age and now kinda like…works for them? Idk. It’s good though. 

16: What would be your first or basic psychic skill (telekinesis, pyrokinesis, hydrokinesis, ect)?Honestly telekinesis. I’d fuckin own that shit, being too lazy to get up and grab things myself. I’d probably be like, hah, my pop is on the table literally inches from my hand. If only I could just float it over to myself! And then it does and I’d be like Holy Shit. Also, using telekinesis on yourself (if it’s strong enough) allows you to basically fly? I’d train til it’s that level and then I would be the least athletic person in existence. 

17: Do you like milk?I really like strawberry milk. I only have normal milk if I dip a cookie in it. Sometimes chocolate is ok too. And I only really have whole milk cause it tastes the best.

18: What headcanons do you have for (character)?I mean u didn’t provide a character uhm. There’s so many. Me and @pundeserving​ have been talking and whenever I come up with some headcanon I tell her and she may or may not add it to her headcanon list. Usually she does. It’s very good and if you wanna hear some shit about a certian character feel free to ask abt them specifically.

19: Would you hone your basic psychic skill or try to learn different ones?Both? If possible? I’d like to get my telekineses to a point where I can move myself with little to no effort, but having basic version of other powers would also be nice (like psychokinesis to light a candle or warm up some cold soup or smth)

20: Would you try to use your psychic powers for personal gain or only if you had to?I mean, if it’s (like i mentioned above) heating up soup, that’s kinda personal gain hah no but seriously if it’d unfairly advantage me above other people (in a sport or something) or harm someone else, I wouldn’t do it. I’d use it for little things like retrieving something that’s out of reach or smth, or if worse comes to worse, to protect my friends or family,  if there are no other viable options.
