I chose these songs mostly on the regular versions, but some of them have pretty great acoustic versions ngl. I really like that Stay Together For the Kids and Disenchanted renditions, which I think use the real ripped vocals over acoustic instrumentals. And I actually prefer the Boyce Avenue version of Iris than the actual acoustic version from GGD. But for How's It Going To Be and All These Things I've Done, I really adore the originals, even if they lend themselves well to acoustic versions.

Also yes instead of talking about his feelings in a mature and calm manner, Gojo instead runs off and makes an album about it instead 😂 tbf using art as an outlet is actually a very healthy thing to do, but so is talking to your partner about your internal struggles.

But I find it very in character of him to struggle to put his own feelings into words, or rather, to express them outwardly and actually speak and vocalize them to others in a normal way, and turn to music instead. Unlike Hawks - who is more of an action guy and even in his POVs shows how he feels through his actions rather than introspective monologues - Gojo's actually your classic Tortured Poet (see what I did there lol) who has a lot of Thoughts™, even if he's horrible about expressing them and regularly ignores them. So in his own way, he's trying to communicate a lot through this album - to the whole world, but also to Hawks specifically.

Tbh this album is probably Gojo's most 'personal', or at the very least, as personal as you can get when you never wrote the songs to begin with lol. But idk, my millennial is showing here but there was always something so personal to making mixtape CDs for yourself or for others. You might not have wrote them, but it says a lot that you chose them to define yourself, you know?? Anyway I digress, moral of the story this is actually Gojo reaching out in his own way. And tbh, it's kind of a summary of his life too. A lot of times I pick songs for this fic mainly just because I like the way they sound, with no real meaning to them, and that's canon too as Gojo picks his songs for the Vibes™, but for this album noooope.

Disenchanted - Going to be crowned as the quintessential 'Dabi' song. Literally all about being a disenfranchised and disenchanted youth who sings away his angst and the chorus is 'If I'm so wrong, how can you listen all night long?' This is basically the summary of how sad teenage Dabi felt and why he turned to both music and villainy

Stay Together For The Kids - So on the nose it's not even funny, but I adore that guitar riff in the beginning. And while Gojo's parents didn't divorce in either of his lives, I still feel this resonating with him because of the way his youth was ruined by the adults who were supposed to love and care about him, in both lives. And yes, when the Endeavor reveal drops people are going to be questioning this song.

Iris - Yes, this is his pining song. First for Suguru, but then takes on a new meaning with Hawks. Yes, it turns all the Sixwings fans into a sobbing mess every time. Really though more than being a love song about either Suguru or Hawks, this is hi trying to convey his own feelings with lines like 'yeah you bleed just to know you're alive'/'when everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am'

How's It Going To Be - Known to Sixwings fans as the 'breakup/makeup' song. Like yeah it's about Sixwings breaking up, but it's also Ru-kun shouting to the world that he wants to get Hawks back. It becomes infamous for it. When No Scrubs finally goes on their massive Taylor Swift Era's-esque tour he'll play this and Iris back to back and have the whole stadium bawling. Ngl this is my favorite 3EB song, so it had to go in this fic somewhere. I love how it starts mainly soft and acoustic and at the climax the full band kicks in and Stephan Jenkins just starts belting 'I wanna get myself back into you, the soft dive of oblivion'

All These Things That I've Done - If Disenchanted is Dabi looking back on his life/past and all the anger and sadness he sees there, then the final track on the album is about coming to terms with himself and trying to accept who he is, and look towards the future. Huge theme for he next arcs/final fic in this series. I actually always thought the line was 'these changes ain't changing me, the gold-hearted boy I used to be'... but it's actually cold-hearted, which kinda totally changes my narrative for this song so I'm pretending it's gold-hearted 😂

I wanted to talk about the Black Parade uniforms and it kind of turned into an entire essay. My ideas on the intention behind each costume and their cohesion as a group really evolved over the course of writing this, and I think it brought into focus a lot of things I knew subconsciously but hadn't articulated. I also noticed a lot of details I had never seen before. This has futher convinced me that 1) costume design and what you can say with it is really fascinating and 2) this is S-tier costume design of all time. And it's really long so I'm putting the rest under the cut.

What I would have loved is a Weezer-style picture of the five of them standing side by side, full bodies visible, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to exist. They're either covering each other up, or posed in such a way that details aren't visible or cut is hard to compare, so I'll have to provide a variety of visuals. This weirdly blurry poster is the closest thing I could find to a Weezer picture, so take them in as a group and refer back as necessary. I want to start by saying, obviously, that they look amazing both individually and as a set. "Dark marching band of death" is a really fun concept that is very well executed. But this isn't their first time doing a look as a group - think back to Revenge for a minute, when they really started to think about their costuming as a band. Gerard has talked about how then, they were kind of closing ranks against the vitriol coming their way. They needed to feel like a team, a gang, and dressed like one. I think some of this mentality has carried over into the Black Parade uniforms - they're less defensive, (there's no bulletproof vests), but in taking on new, nameless identities they have removed themselves as individuals from the equation, which is protective in its own way. What's left are stage personas, and the more you look the more you see that these were designed by someone who is very familiar with the history of the band and how each member presents themselves on stage. It's absolutely genius costume design, because when everyone is in uniform, the little differences are more noticable and tell you so much about the intention behind each variation.

Before we really start, I have to confess that I have no history in costuming or even a lot of familiarity with marching or military bands. I can only say I find costuming interesting, so I've read a little about it, and I went to high school in America and almost all my friends were in marching band. Someone who is more educated in these things could probably give more specific insights and have a better vocabulary to talk about it, but do not underestimate me. I am deeply obsessed with MCR and got A's in English, so let's find some meaning in symbolism! But please remember that with all art, there is no one interpretation. And remember going forward that these costumes were designed by Colleen Atwood, based on sketches she was given by Gerard, so there's no telling what elements were brought in by her and what elements Gerard had planned originally. If anyone has sources on that, PLEASE let me know because I'm very curious about the design process.

Also, I'll be using the uniforms as they appear in the WTTBP video as the standard, with acknowledgements toward variations seen in posters and the FLW video. It's worth noting that in many live performances they wore different, less unique jackets, and often forewent the pants for black jeans. This is almost certainly because they were easier to perform in and they didn't want to subject the originals to the sweat and rowdiness of regular shows. Ok, here we go! Here are some pics to refer back to throughout.

Starting with the band as a whole, I want to point out two things: first, marching bands evolved from military bands. The individual costumes vary in how "military" they look, but you can definitely see the influence when you look at them as a set. I imagine they leaned into that a bit because of the military elements on the record - the suggestion in Mama that the patient was a soldier, maybe even a war criminal. We also know they've done military aesthetics before, in The Ghost of You music video, and that the band was formed in response to 9/11. Suffice to say, the military is on the mind, and this is a continuation of that.

They also look a bit like skeletons. Obviously they would occasionally do the face paint, but the uniforms themselves suggest a ribcage with the horizontal silver lines, and at some angles the stripes on the pants also really contribute to the image. I know most people have already realized this, but I wanted to point it out explicitly because it took me an embarassingly long time to see it.

Alright, I'm gonna talk about them individually now, going from my personal least to most favorite. Taste aside, they're all individually really interesting.

5. Bob

(I can't find another good Bob picture, just scroll up to the blurry one)

It's not just because I don't like Bob, I genuinely like this one much less than all the others. It might be because it's less tailored - the others look much sharper, he looks almost rumpled in comparison. The lose fit might be because as a drummer, he needed better range of movement, but I'm not a drummer so I don't know. The cut of his jacket looks kind of naval to me, which is interesting. His stripes are also very minimal compared to the others. Overall, his looks the least like it's part of a set. I don't necessarily think they meant to set him apart, but maybe they did, considering he's the only non-original member (I'm counting Frank as an original member) and the only one not from New Jersey (which, I only point out because they ALWAYS point that out to people who mention they're a Jersey band. We're from Jersey, Bob is from Chicago.) Maybe it was a subconscious thing, or maybe as the drummer his costume was designed to make the most of what would be visible sitting and partially obscured by the drum kit. It does have a very dramatic collar. That's probably also part of the reason they gave him a more distinctive haircut for this - I'm not gonna talk about hair much, but it's worth mentioning. Overall, I don't have a ton to say about Bob because I don't think of him much (sorry, but not really).

4. Frank

Frank's is really interesting. His is the least traditional-looking, which is why it's here in the ranking, but I like it and I think there's a good reason for that. Those stripes on the sleeve are a really strong look, and the material of the silver has kind of a tarnished/dappled look you can see better in other photos. I've seen people say it's a subtle camo pattern, but I'm honestly not sure - I think he's supposed to look a little less new and shiny. The blockiness of it widens him and gives him a lot of presence that might be lost if he was dressed more like the others, and it compliments his performance style well. That's particularly important in the WTTBP video - on that float, he simply doesn't have room to be as wild and energetic as his standard performance was at the time, so this uniform helps him stand out and draw attention to what thrashing he is able to do. As far as bucking tradition, he also is the only one without shoulder tabs (those little loops). There's something funny about that - those tabs are meant to hold loops and eupalletes that would signify rank, placement, or achievement, which apparently you could not give to Frank if you tried. I think this lack of traditionality is reflective of Frank's more punk sensibilities, having come up in the Jersey scene. His playing style evolved over time as he and Ray influenced each other, but at the start he was very much their punk guitarist and coming up in that scene continued to influence how he conducted himself as a musician. I think this uniform marks him as a non-conformist even within the group.

He also has that patch with a red cross on the sleeve, the only bit of color on any of them. I don't know what to make of that, maybe it's just for the Catholic vibes.

Honestly, Frank's feels the most like what people would expect from an "emo" marching band uniform. Especially considering the poster, where he's found a hole to stick his thumb through. I don't think he's wearing it in the video, but in that poster he has this belt with some kind of weapon?? Maybe?? We get it, he's a dangerous little man.

3. Mikey

Mikey's uniform is by far the most military - it's not just the medal, it's also the cut of the jacket. And he's the only one with a fun little belt, which helps keep the silhouette look nice and tailored even though the jacket flares a little at the waist. We all know the medal is a reference to his death in The Ghost of You video (there's no way they didn't know we would make that connection) and it wouldn't surprise me if the rest of his uniform looks more military because it was built around that idea. But also consider Mikey's stage presence at the time - due to his discomfort on stage, he used to be really stoic, standing in the back, getting the job done with little showmanship. I think that presentation lends itself well to a classic military figure. Mikey is also pretty thin, and the long jacket and it's strong, solid construction keeps him from looking too Victorian-orphan waifish (especially with how pale they all are), and more like a dead soldier boy.

Additionally, Mikey's costume leaning so hard into the military side helps them look more military as a group. It keeps the association in your mind when you look at the others. Also, he's wearing a little necklace here, which I've never noticed before, is he wearing that in the videos?? I think it's an anchor, which is fun considering he died on a beach.

2. Gerard

Yes, Gerard's is #2 in my ranking. I'm sorry, I might have a slight bias knocking it down from #1. But maybe not, let me defend myself when I get there. Anyway, Gerard's is the most classically marching band, which makes sense considering he's the frontperson. In fact, he has one of those braided loops on his shoulder we talked about earlier, demonstrating.....something, it seems to vary a lot, but we're probably meant to think leadership. He's not wearing it the WTTBP video, but it's there in Famous Last Words. He also has that fancy little star thing on the shoulder, which definitely seems to suggest rank. Otherwise, his uniform is very basic. He's the template that the others' uniforms are variations of. And it's a great look! He's also got nice big buttons compared to the others, three whole rows of them, which is a nice touch to make it look a liiiiittle more feminine. Because, of course, the back of the jacket is corseted, in a genious stroke of gender that puts the entire outfit in a new context. I think this is a good example of how Gerard likes to play with androgony by balancing masc and femme elements. The cut of his jacket makes his shoulders look wide and his waist narrow, but not so narrow it looks terribly feminine (just a little, taken on its own). A lot of this is achieved by the piping - notice how on Bob, Mikey, and Frank, the top row of piping (I might be using that word wrong but let's go with it. I'm talking about the silver stuff across the chest) is pretty much the same length as the bottom row? On Gerard, they start out wide way up on his shoulders and get progressively narrower at the waist. It's still a mostly masculine silhouette, but then you have the counter balance of the big buttons and his little white pixie cut, both of which lean just a little further toward femme than masc. It's an androgynous look that leans toward masc as a whole, until he turns around and, boom, corseted back. Showstopping. He also had those black leather gloves that give some nice formality, and maybe a touch of impersonality. They make it so that when he's in full uniform, the only skin you can see is that of his face. They're like an edgier version of the usual plain white marching band gloves.

1. Ray

Going purely by aesthetics, Ray's is my favorite. It's the fancy one, most obviously distinct by the flourishes around the buttons on his jacket. He Mikey are the only ones with pure silver shoulder loops, and Ray has more silver piping on his jacket than the others. In some pictures he's wearing this really ornate knotted tassle thing? You can see it in one of the group pictures above. He isn't wearing it in any of the videos, which makes sense as it could be really annoying while playing. The cut of his jacket at the bottom also looks formal to me, but I'm not sure why. Overall, the ornanamentation could be a reflection of his playing style - the same caveat here applies to Frank, in that they influenced each other through their parnership as guitarists, (and Ray has a lot of influences from different genres), but at the start he was their metal guitarist, and the guitars in metal are often complicated and showy. And he's their soloist, they need to show him off a little.

Additionally, the construction here is giving him an absolutely wild silohette. Like Gerard, the piping on his jacket gets progressively narrower to suggest a smaller waist, but without the really long stripes at the top to make the shoulders look broader. Those vertical lines across the front add to the effect because they're curved inward - which is interesting, because everyone else's uniforms are composed of entirely straight lines and sharp angles. And his jacket is cut REALLY high on the side. I can't tell if Ray's pants are more high-waisted than the others, or if it just looks that way because of the cut of the jacket. You see the stripe of the pants go all the way up his hip, and since he's already tall with long legs, it really accentuates that. It's hard to tell, but I think his pants are even a little more form-fitting than the others. The other day I saw people commenting on a gif of Ray in the WTTBP video about how they never noticed how long his legs are - this is why!

We talk about how part of what makes Ray such a compelling performer is how he moves, and I think this costume was designed to compliment fluid motion. The tailoring and curves of the piping avoid making him look too rigid or blocky, as a marching band uniform could easily do, and the high cut of the jacket lets the line of his legs continue uninterrupted. Honestly, this is a favorite look for Raygirls (gender neutral) for a reason - I think they knew exactly what they were doing putting him in a pretty, well-tailored uniform that accentuates his movement. (Caveat here that I'm a Raygirl (gn) so I'm definitely biased, and they all look great in their uniforms, but I do think Ray's is.....uniquely flattering, and I don't think it was an accident).

Conclusions

So now that we've talked about all of them, I think we have some interesting contrasts to make. Gerard and Mikey both have very classic looks, but Gerard's is more marching band and Mikey's is more military. Mikey and Bob both have very military looks, but Mikey's has a much more solid construction. Gerard and Ray are both on the marching band side of the spectrum, but Gerard's is classic while Ray's is ornate. My favorite contrast is between the guitarists - Frank's is blocky and rigid and tarnished, Ray's is curved and fluid and shiny.

The interplay between similarity and contrast is what makes this so compelling as a group costume - just by looking you can tell who's the leader, who's the tragic figure, who's the outcast, who's the rebel, who's being spotlit.

In closing, thank you Colleen Atwood and Gerard Way for designing these and the rest of the band for wearing them, I will never get tired of looking at them.

String Quartet 8, Movement 2 (Shostakovich)

"This piece, specifically the 2nd movement, is full of rage, fear, and strife that fucking ETCHES into my soul. The sporadic and dissonant lines feel so expressive, like i can channel his own fear and anguish. The entire string quartet is was written originally as a suicide note, which is why Shostakovich’s musical anagram is all over it. He’s screaming out “I am here” in Stalin’s Russia. People were literally getting removed from photos and history and Shostakovich is screaming out thats he was once alive. He later dedicated the whole work to those taken by fascism and war. I focus on movement 2 because It’s my favorite movement of the 5 but the entire piece fucks me up regardless. Movement 4 had a moment that feels like he’s excepting his death. As if the he’s literally at the landing of the pearly gates."

the anatomy of a fall by novembersmith

my sister (@rocketbabey) and i worked on this together as a christmas gift for our cousin! i did the typesetting & binding and she did the art.

this is the longest fic i've bound so far!! i was a little intimidated when my sister talked to me about the idea, but as it turns out, it's easier to work on when the book you're binding has some heft. the textblock ended up being over an inch thick!

i'm really satisfied with the components of this one - the cover is a mulberry paper with a teak leaf top layer (real leaves!). the paper in its original form is very fragile and flaky (real leaves...) so i did a ton of experimenting and ended up painting the whole sheet with the 'paper' mod podge as a sealant - it made the paper shiny and flexible instead of dry and crackly - a great success. it wrapped around the bookboard with basically no problems. that said, i used So much pva on this bind...

the spine is a homemade bookcloth - broadcloth from joanns, heat n bond adhesive and a thin japanese sketch paper for the backing paper. the endpapers are lokta paper. this was also the first time i tried adding a bookmark and it turned out sooo cute - i'm so happy with it.

the text is set in 12pt centaur, and it's the first book i printed on my own printer! i was finally able to print on mohawk superfine and the difference that makes..... you can't even imagine how satisfying this book is to hold.

i will admit down here that i'm not really into mcr and i accidentally learned more about them doing this project than i ever would have otherwise, but i Am happy with how this book turned out from an artistic standpoint! and godspeed to all mcr fans i hope you're having a great time out there

somewhat horrifying but unsurprising article about how companies who want (or want to keep) governments contracts can buy out entire DC Metro stations' adspaces. via @andmaybegayer i think?

The Pentagon station, a prime target for reaching DOD staffers, was one of a kind. The Pentagon is the most expensive station to “dominate” according to Outfront Media data which I obtained, even though it has substantially fewer riders than some of the others. Advertising to the 665,786 commuters estimated to visit the Pentagon station in a four week period costs $198,000 (about 30 cents per commuter), before fees. Yet in Gallery Place-Chinatown, a station in downtown DC farther away from government buildings, it costs only $120,000 to reach more than three times as many people (5 cents per commuter).

it is difficult to stress how uncooperative miss mackintosh was during this book's photoshoot. this is genuinely the best one.

i did not enjoy and did not finish Roshani Chokshi's 2018 queer magical intrigue and heist caper in belle epoque france, first in a trilogy. i think there is a mismatch between concept and execution here. i originally had a rather long paragraph about how i'd be interested in a non-new-adult book from her, but after checking her website and seeing that she mostly writes midde-grade and YA, and classifies this book as YA (which doesn't really make sense to me, i think everyone in the core crew can legally drink and i think what i read from this book fits better in New Adult) and has a forthcoming adult book i am not interested in, i think she is simply not an author for me. i reevauated this book with YA in mind, but i think teens deserve books with sophisticated writing and good execution too!

this had a really killer hook but the worldbuilding comes very in thick and fast during the first quarter of the book i read, and felt a little dorling kindersley (here is an eye of horus! on a chinese compass! with a sumerian cipher!). the magical system chokshi uses is novel in its heavy reliance on physical objects and like, countermeasures and counterspells? we get little hints of it as a global system, and it feels very analogous to The Power Of The Computer. a lot of it is based on creation of various physical objects, some of it is mind-based, there are the equivalent of magical stone faraday cages. the macguffin is like. what if a major internet exchange was an object you could carry around.

this magic system is so interesting it makes it disappointing and difficult to break down the distinction between "i don't think the soft-skill worldbuilding through connections and loyalties of characters is that well executed in these first hundred pages" and "hate this specific literary device". we are dropped into a heist at a magical auction where the many magical representatives are attending and rapidly rush through a lineup. this would be a really fun movie or other visual setpiece with intricate costuming choices, but it's hard to show and not tell a complex system of combined familial/cultural/nation-state houses of magic with backstabbing politics when you are rushing through a very time-limited heist. i know that it's the first in a trilogy, but the sheer number of factions and names is very large for a ~400 page trilogy entry. if this were a fucking doorstopper of a series i would have more faith that all will be eventually explained and i will eventually be able to distinguish them all, but i truly don't think she has the pages to do that.

the book's most frequent reviewer praise is that most of the core (but still! very wide! there are so many goddamn names!) cast are colonized or otherwise oppressed people, and i must give this book props for including a bisexual man in the ragtag crew. i read up to the first hundred pages to the first twist, and when the person who joins them at the twist has a voice that is not distinct from the existing gang’s, who are already not distinct from each other, i put the book down. a brief excerpt that does not serve this point very well but serves the following paragraph's point

this book felt like someone describing their dnd campaign to me. people on goodreads do love this book so i'm sure it does eventually deliver on the heist and found family aspects, but it's simply not for me.

the exterior shots of the "old, ugly, moldering house" are the frank lloyd wright ennis house in LA, which made me shriek bc it is a famously light/airy/sundrenched building. (exterior wikipedia, interiors here).

First off, immediately I am amazed by the constant improvement in technology because this noir style video resembles a piece of abstract art. Grainy, a bit blurry, and made up nearly entirely of pixels, I am immediately filled with bittersweet 2000s nostalgia. 

Before I go any farther, here is what I know.

This video is short and sweet and we really see who Phil is in this video. He’s just a sweet lad showing the world what he got his mother for mother’s day and giving us a little insight to what he is working on in University. (We know today that he was working on his degree in Linguistics at University of York followed by a Masters in video production from the same school .) This video really highlights how relatable Phil is (and has continued to be, minus his childhood anecdotes) as he complains about school and daylight savings. 

Something that shook me to my core with the introduction to the lion and pig plushies. Lions and pigs have continued to be related to him even today. Lion references are non-stop, of course, and I could not imagine the current phouse without their golden pig companion! (unrelated stream Golden Pig from danandphilBEATS on spotify!)

It’s so nice to watch this now knowing the amazing (ha!) career and fandom he has built now.

Okay im just gonna do a little post. Opsec basics for the MCR fandom

I know everyone’s Hingry and super into all this. I am too. But I’m seeing a lot of bad OpSec practice around with regards to the leaked files. So here’s just some info and protips.

We’re not dealing here with normal pirated or extralegal data like a pirated album. We’re dealing with leaked data, in some cases data that was part of a massive data leak. This warrants significantly more caution and care in handling. DMCA takedowns are going to be swifter & harder & this is significantly more legally sketchy in a lot of ways, and I suspect the original leakers of the big Warner leak could be looking at legal trouble if they get found.

With that in mind, here’s some tips going forwards.

When dealing with pirated or leaked data, the absolute number one key is to Not Draw Attention. Many piracy sites & people manage this by simply not sharing anything at all on the open net. This isn’t always feasible in the interest of sharing, and is sometimes counter to the ethos of sharing and piracy. So the second best thing is to NOT DRAW ATTENTION TO OURSELVES. So with that in mind:

- stop uploading witch to Spotify. Please. I know people want it there to go in playlists and stuff but please perform a stop it. Warner is going to DMCA that stuff sooner than later and you really really do not want to be the account that uploaded it.

- stop uploading Witch to YouTube. One person did it, confirmed the contentID exists. Okay great. Don’t do it anymore. Stop ringing this alarm bell.

- don’t use cloud storage to do any permanent storage of files from the leaks, ESPECIALLY not google drive or Dropbox which are both providers that do content ID ON PRIVATE PERSONAL FILES. We know, from the YouTube stuff, that Witch at least, if not the rest of TPK, is in comtentID. This will eventually get sniped too. Do not count on clouds as permanent storage for ANYTHING related to this.

- if you are using cloud storage to share and distribute data from the leaks, use more copyright ambivalent services like Mega and use burner accounts to do so.

- anything you actually care about and like and want to keep, DOWNLOAD. Locally. Onto your hard drive. That is literally the only place it’ll be safe.

- If you feel brave and want to interface with/download the actual big Warner leaks torrent, do so through a VPN or with a seedbox. Do NOT get your personal IP into the peer swarm on that fucker. That is not a sound or safe thing to be associated with in any traceable capacity. USE A VPN.

- probably stop making us so known & seen on leaked. I’m seeing a lot of new accounts on the leaked threads asking about MCR stuff. I get it, I really really do, and one or two asks is fine, but it’s probably drawing too much attention by now. If you want to stalk leaked, make the account (use a burner email p l e a s e) and Lurk. Pirates and leakers are territorial assholes and leaked is effectively the darkweb. An influx of new blood with an obvious single fandom interest has the potential to be poorly received and get eyes on us we don’t want from multiple different directions. Again, less alarm bells.

I know this is all a bit dramatic and overly serious and everyone can mock me if they like. But I think it’s important to remember that, with the Witch mp3 and the HA stuff from the Warner leak, we’re all doing something most of us aren’t actually used to, which is dealing with data that isn’t just pirated or semi-legal but part of significant data crime. I’m not in any way suggesting to stop sharing or talking about it, and each person’s personal ethical opinion on that is their own. But I do think we all need to be more careful from a technological and security standpoint with how we’re distributing this data and what spaces we’re uploading it. Warner IS going to be watching and we do NOT want them to see us.

It’s been Twelve Years since Danger Days came out.

It’s been Twelve Years since the death of the Fab Four, the OG Killjoys. Or at least, that’s what the comics tell us.

It’s funny, really. The original tour was supposed to kick off in 2020. But with it being postponed until 2022, MCR set themselves right in the path of the comic, on an anniversary that was marked in those pages. 

Cause Killjoys never die, right?

I found myself thinking about that, recently, after the tour ended, seeing the resurgence of art, of cosplay, of fandom, of the explosion of MCR all over the internet and in person the past year. 

Some people have been around this whole time, yes, and fuck yes to them...but it’s been amazing to see so many people waking up from their slumbers, and coming back to the fandom, the band, the community after all this time. 

Hell, there are a ton of new Killjoys too, who found the band during the hiatus, when there was no new music to be had, no tours, nothing but the back catalogue and old posts to troll through. 

Those of us, especially those that were around in the old days, kept faith. Or maybe we didn’t. That’s okay, too. There is never one way to be a fan.

I can say for myself, I genuinely haven’t felt on fire for MCR like this in years. 

Truly inspired. 

I’m making a costume I have put off for years, I’m currently 15K words into a writing project inspired by the KJs. There are so many other things, too, but I just feel like a flame got re-ignited. 

I saw them at one of the LA shows, and not only did they put on an amazing show, but I genuinely can’t remember the last time I felt a kinship with everyone in a stadium. 

Everyone screaming their lungs out, dancing and jumping around, interacting joyfully with complete strangers. (Shout out to the girls who kept turning around to me and @gravytape​ to sing along and dance with us, to every person who came up to me to grab a MCR pin through my silly Vampire Cowboy game, to every person who came up to me and Junior to compliment our outfits as we were complimenting theirs.) 

I keep joking that this is about Community, but it truly is. It’s not perfect, because no Community is. But I walked out of that show feeling so filled with love for MCR and every damn soul in that building. And after that, every livestream, screaming on MCRTumblr with fans...

...its been beautiful. 

They’ve gotten older, but so have I. (Thank all that’s unholy that we have. It’s a gift to grow older, and is important to remember in the darkest of nights. )

Coming back to them after all this time, as they came back to it, after all this time...it’s been something truly transcendent.

I’ve sorted myself out, figured out my sexuality, my gender (and hilarious how MCR factored into that), and figured out the sort of person I want to be. 

Things aren’t always great, but I’m happy with the person I am. And to look at all of them on stage, together, at all those shows over the tour, having a fucking blast, also clearly happy with who they are, and how far they’ve come...

...how can you feel anything but a deep sense of fellowship with My Chemical Romance? 

It doesn’t matter which album is your favorite. 

(Though I’ll always say Danger Days and Conventional Weapons continue to be criminally underrated and fuck so hard it makes me a dangerous driver.) 

It doesn’t matter if you have been here since 2002, or found them in 2022, there is a place for you out here in the Zones. 

In cities that are sadly has become more like fucking BL/Ind than ever, and a world that is looking more like the Zones than we would like it too...we’re still here.

They are still here. 

Twelve years on from the death of the Fabulous Killjoys, they rose from the dead to show us all so much love. 

I just hope they know how damn loved they are, too.
