OK I like this!! The part that’s most interesting to me is the part about communicating in a place without air. Now at first I thought, oh, that’s space! That’s how they talk to eachother in space! But then I remembered that when the science team goes to zen the science team are still able to talk to eachother. But THEN I remembered that the science team consists of a guy wearing an HEV suit, a half alien, a cyborg, the perfect lab engineered scientist, so I think it’s valid to assume that they don’t exactly follow the same rules that the universe has set up.
Anyways, I think the idea that there’s something out there that’s more dangerous than Benrey is EXTREMELY interesting. Let me raise you another theory though. Tommy is that species. Or at least half of that species, and Gman is the full version of that species. Tommy is able to read the sweet voice, but he’s clearly not the same species as Benrey, as Gman is shown to have a completely different set of powers than Benrey. Gman is able to change the fabric of the world. Benrey is able to change the fabric of himself.
Gman changes the world around him by stopping time, teleporting people around, building areas (Chuck E Cheese), and being able to affect others (fixing Gordon’s hand). He and Tommy are also shown to be able to create NPCs as well (I headcanon Gman is controlling all the NPCs in black mesa but it’s canon that Tommy straight up MADE Sunkist). But even though Gmans species is able to do all of this stuff, he is never shown to be able to manipulate Benrey any way. If he was able to do that, he would have stopped Benrey from breaking the game and becoming the main antagonist, he would have stopped Benrey from being near Gordon, he would have stopped Benrey from ruining his cool speech during the time stop with PS+. Benrey, on the other hand, is able to fundamentally break the laws of physics, but only do so for himself. He can shapeshift, clip through walls, fly, ignore time stops, literally rip off all his skin to become a skeleton (debatable but that’s how I interpret that lmao), etc. But although Benrey can mess with himself, he can’t mess with the universe around him. If he could, he would have actually stopped Gordon at the door without his passport, he would have stopped the science team from defeating him.
Since we’ve determined that Gman and Benrey aren’t the same species, what exactly does that mean? Well, Tommy can read the Sweet Voice, and the rest of the science team can’t. So what’s different about Tommy than the rest of the science team? He’s the son of Gman. Why would Gman be able to read the Sweet Voice? Because his species is the one who Benreys biological warning is directed towards.
I think this actually explains the friendship between Benrey and Tommy. Benrey became friends with Tommy because he’s SCARED of him and wants to be on his good side.
Guess who has the highest kill count on the science team. Guess who tells Gordon that this high kill count is “All instinct”. It’s TOMMY. Tommy’s species is a predator. Everyone else is the prey.
What kind of “prey” Benrey is though is a different question. I’m about to get super meta, but I think that the way Gman’s species “feeds” is on a narrative. Since Benrey doesn’t abide by the rules of a narrative, he sends out warning signals in the way of Sweet Voice, and in return, Gman doesn’t mess with him the same way predators don’t mess with brightly colored animals. The ACTUAL prey are the rest of the science team, who are there to play roles in the story and provide the Gman with something to control, something to do. Without the story of the science team, Gman couldnt exist. Without prey, predators couldn’t exist.
I don’t think Gman’s species actually eats Benrey’s species for a couple reasons. First of all, we never see Tommy eat anything throughout the whole series, he’s extremely fixated on DRINKS (Soda, “peach tea going through a silly straw”, Powerade). The closest thing we get in reference to Tommy eating something is his fabled drawer full of loose Tic-Tacs, and 1, that isn’t exactly a meal, and 2, that’s a reference to Baaulps childhood drawer of Tic-Tacs. Tommy doesn’t kill people in the story because he’s gonna eat them or whatever, he kills them because they’re in the way of getting to the end of the story, even if he doesn’t know it.
Anyways, I think I’m gonna call this theory the Gspecies theory. Obviously RTVS didn’t plan anything like this out when making the series, but I love reading into this kind of stuff.
