I love how many people were willing to tell Laura that ‘the world doesn’t revolve around your star-crossed romance with your broody vampire lover and people you care about get hurt when you forget that’ and I wish that more people got to say that to Buffy in seasons 2 and 3 of btvs (and those ats episodes that she was in). I don’t think it would’ve changed anything really but it would’ve been nice to see.

AU: Kendra returns to Sunnydale when she learns that Drusilla isn't dead.
Having Kendra show up as early as possible to have as much of an impact on the course of S2 as she can:
Buffy isn't the only Slayer who dreams about Drusilla still being alive. It takes Kendra a little while to fly out to California though, so she only gets to Sunnydale some time during the events of Innocence. She tries her best not to say 'I told you so' when she hears about the situation with Angel, and not to let slip that she was worried enough about Buffy that she came here without her Watcher's permission, and to hide how impressed she is by the sight of Buffy with a rocket launcher. She doesn't necessarily do a great job of any of those three things.
As both a literal and metaphorical representative of the "Angel's a vampire, he should die" school of thought, Kendra also argues for Buffy using lethal force to stop the werewolf in Phases (at least before they learn the werewolf is Oz), and is much more sympathetic to Jenny/Janna than Buffy is inclined to be (Kendra doesn't know Jenny at all -- she never even met her in canon -- so she doesn't have any personal sense of betrayal and is mostly confused about why everyone is upset because it doesn't actually make any sense that they are). Neither of these things do much to endear her to Buffy (or to Willow, who gets to be jealous of Buffy spending time with another Slayer a whole season ahead of schedule), but maybe Jenny ends up offering Kendra somewhere to stay while she's in Sunnydale (I think the implication is that she previously stayed at Buffy's house while Joyce was out of town buying art, but she can't do that this time).
Kendra and Jenny bonding as the group's two outcasts also means Kendra is there to save Jenny from Angelus in Passion. (Given that Jenny is staying late at the school to research her spell she probably doesn't have the foresight to ask Kendra to come with her for back-up, but what else is Kendra going to do but keep an eye on her?) Kendra herself still doesn't really approve of re-ensouling Angelus, but thanks to her it happens a few episodes ahead of schedule. With his soul back, Angel speed-runs his Season 3 arc and quickly breaks up with Buffy "for her own good" and heads off to brood fight crime be directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of many defence attorneys in LA.
Willow is impressed by Jenny's spell to ensoul Angel -- it's a lot more magic than Jenny had admitted to being able to do before -- but Jenny herself probably doesn't let Willow get involved in the magic (certainly not if Giles is also there to help). They both tell her it's too dangerous. But Willow's old friend Amy is still getting into witchcraft around this time, and maybe Willow starts hanging out with her more now that Buffy and Kendra have gotten over their earlier disagreements about Angel and are patrolling together most nights. ("Really," Buffy tells her friends brightly, while explaining unprompted for the fifth time how incredible it is to go on patrol with another Slayer and how they definitely don't need to try to set her up with Scott Hope or anybody else even though she's single now, "We're just good friends.")
Angel's departure doesn't stop Drusilla from trying to wake Acathla. And since Kendra is already in Sunnydale, Sam Zabuto himself has to bring the sword blessed by the knight who first slew the demon to California. Meeting Kendra's Watcher (and learning more about her lack-of-relationship with her parents) prompts Buffy to come out as a Slayer to her mother (after taking care of Acathla and chasing Dru and Spike out of town). In this new context -- no murder charge, Kendra still alive and there for moral support instead of Spike, no impending world-ending deadline and no reason Buffy can't sit down and explain things properly -- Joyce takes the revelation rather better. (Actually, her mom had already picked up that Buffy had broken up with her older boyfriend and started sneaking out after dark to spend time with a girl Joyce doesn't know and whose existence Buffy seemed to be trying to hide, and that Buffy seems a lot happier and more comfortable in her own skin than she did a month or so ago, so when Buffy starts to tell her she has something important to share Joyce thinks she knows what it is already. It takes Buffy a bit longer to figure that part out for herself.)

Replacement
Rupert Giles x fem!reader, slight Wesley Wyndam-Pryce x fem!reader
Word Count: 2.6k
Warnings: younger reader (12 years younger than Giles but super legal ofc), btvs season 3 spoilers, jealousy/insecurity, drinking, light insinuation to smut
Author’s Note: I know this is literally not on the list of things I was supposed to write and I’m going to get to the requests tomorrow I think but the fact there’s so little giles content makes me wanna DIE. anyway here’s this <3 watching buffy season 3 and feeling things for him.
Summary: Set in season 3 when Buffy gets Wesley as the new Watcher. The reader, the assistant librarian and also Giles’ girlfriend, gets hit on a bit by Wesley and Giles gets protective™.
Genre: mostly fluff!
I don’t own these characters. They belong to author/director/creator
(not my gif)
Tumblr media
“They’re sending in the new Watcher soon,” Rupert murmured. He was sitting on the couch in front of you. You could only see the back of his head but you could tell what kind of look he had on his face. Contempt, annoyance, some disappointment lacing his features. He had a glass in his hand, his arm over the back of the couch. He glanced back at you in the kitchen. “I fear I might be a tad unbearable for the next couple of days.”
“You’re always unbearable,” you quipped, grabbing your own glass as you finished pouring it. “That's what I like about you.”
You knew Giles was extremely worried about Buffy’s new Watcher. It had been the topic of conversation ever since Buffy’s test. It had also been a general point of contention; how could he let her go through that? Though now that he was being punished through various other means, you laid off on the argument.
“Do you know who it is?”
“No. They won’t tell me. Fear of my reproach I imagine.” He shook his head a bit. “I can’t believe they’re allowing someone else to come in after Gwendolyn Post.” You stayed silent. It was better to let him just talk through this himself, without any kind of argument or solace from you. “Buffy will never trust someone as she trusts me. Trusted me that is, I suppose. I never should have gone through with it. No, don’t say anything. I’m just conceding to your earlier point, I know.” You rolled your eyes.
“Relax. The Watcher won’t be here tonight…” you put your hand on his arm. “So let’s not talk about him hm?”
“You’re being suggestive. Is it because I conceded to your point?”
“One of the various reasons,” you explained. “Relax Rupert. I have no ulterior motives, I’m not a vampire, I’m not possessed. I’m just a girl in your house with some light alcoholic suggestion.” He nodded slowly.
“You know, I don’t need that much convincing.”
“I know.” You grabbed his drink and put it down on the coffee table. He admired you with an eyebrow raised until your phone rang. You groaned, picking it up beside the drinks. “It’s Buffy.” He let out a soft sigh.
“Duty calls.”
“Hey, it’s my phone. Maybe she just wants to gossip.”
“Moments like these I remember we’re from slightly different generations.” You rolled your eyes and answered the phone.
“12 years is not that many years. Hey Buffy.”
“Arguing about your age difference again?” she said over the phone.
“Always. Ever the straight.” You kicked your legs up onto his lap. He grabbed his glass back from the table and took a drink.
“I have said you have odd taste in men right?”
“Once or twice. What can I do for you?”
“Was gonna ask if you want to go to the Bronze with Willow and I before patrol. I fear this will be my last night Watcherless.”
“Does she know I can hear her?” Giles questioned. You shrugged.
“I would love to come but I think I’ve got my hands full over here. Men's feelings are hard.”
“Tell me about it,” Buffy muttered. You could almost see her rolling her eyes over the neverending Angel ordeal.
“You should go,” Giles said. “I’ll be fine.” “I made plans I don’t like to break,” you pouted. “Rain check Buff?”
“Sure thing.”
“Have fun.”
“I would say you too but that brings awful images to my brain.”
-
You came into school a little bit late. You were working as library assistant, at Snyder’s hope to keep Giles the least destructive as possible. Giles woke up ungodly early and usually had several cups of coffee before you even saw him.
You pushed open the doors to the library, holding your bag to your side. You slowed at the sight of a man you didn’t recognize by the check out desk. Your eyebrows furrowed as you tried to place the suit. Familiar, but foreign. The man turned around, revealing some glasses and an even looking face.
“Good morning,” he said, just as evenly.
“Good morning…” You craned your neck to look behind him, wondering if you had suddenly entered a world with a different librarian.
“Are you here for the librarian? He’s out at the moment.” He stumbled over his words a bit, making you unsure of his dedication to the sentence.
“Who are you?” He cleared his throat.
“Wesley Wyndam-Pryce.” He offered his hand. You shook it, warily.
“Wesley Wy-” You paused and thinned your lips. Maybe it was the British accent that gave him away or maybe it was the suit. “Are you the new Watcher?” His eyebrows raised.
“I take it you know about the slayer” You shook your head.
“Just a tad. I swear I’m not a threat, just a friend. Y/N.” He nodded once, looking you over.
“What kind of friend?” You scoffed a bit.
“You Watcher’s have a type,” you observed.
“Hm?”
“Where’s Rupert?”
“Out.”
“What was it? Westley?”
“Wesley. Wyndam-Pryce.” You nodded, pointing a finger at him. He smiled shakily, looking down. You opened your mouth to speak when the door opened again.
“Oh man. You’ve met the new Watcher,” Buffy observed. Wesley straightened up and cleared his throat. “Getting along?” “Well,” he observed. Buffy raised an eyebrow at his stiffness and then glanced back at you. “I wonder if the Watcher’s have a book that says what kind of girl they’re allowed to go for. Maybe Giles just stuck a picture of you somewhere and this guy read it wrong.” You rolled your eyes.
“Do you know where Rupert is?”
“Nope. He’s not my Watcher anymore, remember?” she said, defeated. She passed you further into the room. You put a hand up in defeat.
“He could be dying and none of us would know.”
“I’m sure he’s alright,” Wesley promised. “Are you and Rupert…”
“Yeah,” you said curtly. As if on cue, Giles walked into the room, holding a stack of books, looking completely in his natural habitat. “Thank God. Giles.” He halted when he caught sight of the two of you.
“You met the replacement.”
“I did. He’s a little stiff.” You squeezed his bicep. He watched you do it. “I was looking for you.”
“Is everything alright?” He put the books down on the counter. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Just wasn’t sure where you had run off to and I like keeping tabs.”
“That’s unhealthy,” Buffy noted.
“Your boyfriend is dead,” Giles retorted. She shrugged with a point taken look on her face. You turned back to him. Wesley gave a once over at the two of you. Giles had put a hand on your upper arm, a gesture that was familiar to the two of you. You took the top book off his stack.
“Whatcha reading?”
“You’re miraculously calm.”
“One of us has to be.” You took the book and walked over to sit beside Buffy. She was eyeing the new Watcher intensely, like the whole world could come down at her mere gaze. Knowing her, you wouldn’t be surprised.
“He’s gonna say something stupid,” she muttered.
“Hm?” you asked. Wesley was looking at Giles.
“Don’t you think she’s a bit on the younger side for you?”
Silence went over the room as the words seemed to hang in the air. Giles stared bullets into his former colleague.
“I don’t think that’s any of your concern,” he said coldly.
“She looks closer to the slayer's age. My age. I have every right to ask, as a proceeding member of the council and part of the investigation towards your extermination.” Giles took a step forward, too close. You were suddenly reminded of the ‘not so booksmart’ person he used to be, the one who would throw a punch before working with words. You stood back up.
“Keep her out of your mouth or so help m-”
“Alright,” you intervened. You stepped between the two of them. “I’m only 12 years younger but you flatter me. Giles, a moment?” You grabbed Rupert’s arm, gently pulling him in the direction towards his office. It took him a moment, not wanting to digress from the standoff. Eventually he followed.
“Don’t leave me here all by my lonesome with this guy,” Buffy pleaded.
“Vetoing your contribution here slayer,” you called back. She let out a huff, returning to staring bullets. You shut the office door gently behind you.
“That’s a tad dramatic,” he pointed out. “I’m fine.”
“I’m not going to put words in your mouth but I’m allowed to observe, yeah?” He pursed his lips, shoving his hands in my pockets. You nodded. “Other Watcher, bad. Wiles Westley Watchamacalllhim is making you, Rupert Giles, sad. You want Buffy to remain under your watch, lack of better word, and this new man is now stepping all over your toes in that regard. Observations correct?”
“Generally.”
“What am I missing?” He shook his head.
“It’s not important. Move on with your speal please.”
“Buffy won’t trust this man the way she trusts you. She never could, you have too much history. You have the upper hand here, despite the council not backing you up. He’ll never be half the Watcher you are,” you promised. You grabbed his hand. “Speal over.”
He nodded gently, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
“You do have a way with words.” You laughed gently, shaking your head.
“I’ll try to be more Bronte later.” He squeezed your intertwined hands, a defeated smile on his lips.
There was a knock on the office door. You rolled your eyes and released his hand. You swung open the door to meet Wesley on the other side.
“I have to speak to Mr. Giles.”
“He’s all yours Wes.” You patted his chest as you walked past, back to Buffy.
-
As the day wound down and everyone started home, you were stuck in the library still. You loved the place but the more you spent in it with two Watchers, the more you were starting to see its lesser qualities. Giles had followed Buffy and Faith out to have a generally mentor-like talk.
Leaving you alone with Wesley.
“So you know of Buffy because of Giles?” he questioned. You raised your head from the book you were reading. You had hardly noticed him watching you. He had a cup of coffee in his hand, standing disgustingly straight. You sat on the steps.
“I was assistant librarian. Almost died by vampire. Happens to the best of us.”
“He fraternized with a colleague?”
“Continues to do so. Don’t look so jealous, Wes.” You put the book to your chest. “You’re ruining the perfect balance of the scooby gang you know.”
“Perhaps it needed to be out of kilter. I don’t see it going swimmingly right now.” He walked over to you. You looked up at him, observing his very even stature. You wondered, not for the first time, if Giles looked like this when he was a little younger. “What are you reading?”
“Rereading.” You glanced at the book. “Wuthering Heights.”
“Classic.”
“Yes sir. One of my favorites. Helps me forget about the neverending impending doom,” you muttered. He looked awkward for a moment and then sat down beside you on the steps. You raised an eyebrow.
“I’ve always enjoyed a bit of light fiction reading.” You opened your mouth to speak, reading the signals he was not so eloquently putting off. You were interrupted by the library door opening.
Giles slowed his walking speed at the sight of you. Wesley stood up, embarrassed. You gave Rupert wide eyes, a gentle I don’t know sign.
“Go do Watcher duties won’t you? The girls need someone to watch them before patrol.” Wesley wanted to argue but noted the look in Rupert’s eyes and decided against it. He gave you a nod and then passed him to leave the room.
You were alone with Rupert. Finally.
“Wuthering Heights?” he asked gently. You nodded, a small smile on your face.
“Am I so predictable?”
“You’re a classic.”
You leaned against the railing, watching him with admiration in your eyes. There was something special about emotions fluttering around the room, knowing there was something to be said and something understood. You softly patted the stairs beside you. He walked over, sitting down without a word.
“You know what I’m going to say,” he breathed. You grabbed his hand, staring down at it as you traced the lines of his palm.
“Wesley will never be you.”
“Are you speaking for Buffy or…or for you.”
“For me.” You wanted to argue aggressively, assure him that whatever he was thinking was wrong. You felt the opposite, you would never love someone like you loved him. That Wesley, no matter the difference in your ages, it would always be Giles. That the age truly wasn’t even that big of a deal. You were consenting adults with fully formed frontal lobes.
Instead you leaned down to him and put your chin on his shoulder.
“I love you,” you whispered. He did a double take with his eyes, not moving his head so as to not disturb you. You hadn’t said that yet. “You don’t have to say anything-”
“I love you too.”
You smiled brightly. You kissed his shoulder and then sat up all the way.
“Can you read to me?” He glanced up at you, wondering how you had moved on so quickly.
“Hm?”
“I just like to listen to you talk Rupert,” you murmured. You handed him your book and slid down the stairs so you were sitting beside each other. He cleared his throat curiously. “One second. I’m gonna go grab one of your sweaters from the office, I like to get cozy. You got any blankets in there Rupert?” You got up and walked away. He smiled to himself.
“Under the desk.”
“Ah ha!” you peeked around the corner. You emerged wearing one of his gray knitted sweaters. “I love that you have blankets in your office. Hm. I love you I think.”
“Oh?” You shrugged.
“Yes sir.”
You sat beside him again and put a blanket over his lap.
“Go on. Heathcliff won’t read himself.”
When Wesley returned he glanced through the door window before walking in. Your head rested on Giles’s, eyes closed in content. You looked rather cozy on that step. Giles kept reading, even as you presumably slept.
Wesley turned back to bother Buffy some more.

yeah yknow what i wrote this today. i will put it here only :) i don't know WHO the target audience is (3 ppl?) but. sometimes a girl wants to put her girl places
Buffy noticed the girl first. Her hair was red and frizzy in a way that was basically asking for a Cordelia Chase dressing-down, and she wasn’t exactly thin, but she was surprisingly pretty even with all that happening. She was dressed like a grown-up, which…honestly, probably wouldn’t stop Cordy from saying something anyway, though it minimized the possibility that the blow would be cutting enough to take the girl out at the knees. Lady. She held herself like a girl, though, and she was about as tall as Buffy and Willow, which was probably what had thrown Buffy off in the first place. That, and the fact that she was sitting like Willow while Giles yelled at someone on the phone.
“—no, Thea, I am not being unreasonable, you’re being unreasonable!” Giles was saying. “To me? To a Hellmouth? Do you not have any other friends you can call upon?” A brief silence, presumably while the other person answered, and then Giles said, “Oh, I’m sorry, yes, of course your other friends are conveniently either indisposed or in England. Really, Thea, how terrible is—well, that’s hardly—she’s twenty-three, that is certainly old enough to make her own choices!” Another pause, during which Giles’s face reddened, and he said, “That is beside the point!”
“You can always send me back!” said the girl, raising her hand. British-y, Buffy observed, but not necessarily Watcher-y; the Watchers she’d met all felt a little more seasoned than this girl, and Giles probably wouldn’t be half so upset about another Watcher on the Hellmouth.
“Oh, I can, and I will, and as soon as I get this sorted with your mum, you are going back,” Giles snapped. Something on the other end of the phone caught his attention. “Yes, Thea, she is going back, because I hardly think that her falling in love with—what did you call him, a failed wizard? How is that even possible? No, don’t tell me—”
“He’s already buying a plane ticket,” said the girl helpfully.
“Marigold,” said Giles, “for the love of God, please let me manage this on my own.”
“Can I have the phone?” asked Marigold.
“Christ!” said Giles, shoved the phone at Marigold, and stalked into his office.
It was at this point that Marigold finally noticed the other person in the room. “Oh, hello, Buffy!” she said, as though they’d been friends for quite some time—which, yeah, sure, maybe everyone in England knew about Buffy, or at least everyone in England who knew Giles, so Buffy decided to just sit down and watch this. Way more fun than trying to do early-morning trig homework.
Marigold shifted the phone to her ear. “Hi, mumma!” she sang out. “You know he’s not going to change his mind. Mhm. Well, you know I’m not going to change my mind, and neither is my sweetheart. Hm. Yes. Yes. So is your plan to just send me to get killed on the Hellmouth, then? Because you know I’m very accident-prone and have a tendency for—well, yes, Mr. Giles is here, but there’s really only so much Mr. Giles can do, given the circumstances, and especially if he’s watching over a Slayer of his own, and I’d hardly call protecting me a Slayer’s top priority when really what she’s doing is—no, I am not being difficult. You’re the one who sent her daughter to a Hellmouth rather than accepting that she is getting married, never mind what you have to say about it.”
Oh, this was definitely going to be the topic of lunchtime conversation. Buffy pulled out a bag of popcorn.
The rustle of the bag opening caught Marigold’s attention. She glanced half over her shoulder, grinned a bit, and said, “By the by, mumma, Mr. Giles’s Slayer is positively adorable! So I hardly intend to put her out, asking her to protect me—yes, well, if you think I’m making unwise choices, perhaps you shouldn’t have sent me mostly unsupervised to a foreign country! Why, who knows what sort of wizards I might meet here? In point of fact, I believe Mr. Giles mentioned an Ethan Rayne surfaced here more than once—”
The dial tone rang out. Marigold dropped the phone delightedly and called, “Mr. Giles, she hung up on me!”
Giles poked his head out of his office and said, “And why did she do that?”
“I like to believe I was so desperately insufferable that she’s on the next plane over to Sunnydale,” said Marigold, “and then she’ll take me back home, and I can do what I like without her deciding on my behalf to send me here. Which, of course, I don’t mind overly, I just think she isn’t thinking very critically—”
“Nor are you,” said Giles. “Marigold, how old is this man?”
“Oh, wow, Giles,” said Buffy, unable to keep herself out of this part of the conversation. “So I date a guy two hundred years older than me and you don’t bat an eye, but this totally British grown-up is dating some wizard guy who’s probably totally human, probably way younger than Angel, and that’s a problem?”
Giles didn’t seem to know what to say to that.
“Buffy!!!” said Marigold exuberantly, as if they’d been besties forever, which, actually, Buffy kind of liked. Besties in dating older guys, apparently. “Come sit next to me and tell me all about your paramour. Mr. Giles didn’t say anything about that!”
“Thea is going to kill me,” said Giles to the ceiling. “Thea is going to fly here, see this conversation happening, and kill me.”
“Entirely your fault for negotiating with Thea,” said Marigold primly.
“I didn’t—you showed up at my house—she told me after the fact!” said Giles, who seemed too outraged to string a full sentence together without a few others tagging along.
Marigold took the phone and began dialing another number. Giles sat down heavily in the chair next to Buffy and buried his face in his hands. “Hello, sugarplum!” she sang. “Oh, of course it’s me! Don’t worry about that; this phone’s a Council phone, so it can make international calls magically and free of charge—”
“Are you calling him?!” said Giles, and made a mad dash for the phone.
Marigold yanked the phone out of the wall and danced back. Normally that usually ended a call, but the phone crackled with a funny, fizzy sparkle that tickled Buffy’s nose delightfully. “I just wanted to make sure you know that I’m having a lovely time and there really isn’t any need to come down and collect me!” she continued, scrambling back and away from Giles as he tried to grab the phone away from her. “I’m personally looking at this as an all-expenses-paid vacation while mumma gets her head on straight about this marriage, which absolutely is happening, so don’t worry about that either.” She listened. “Yes. Well, I am with a Watcher and his Slayer, so I’m surely going to be completely fine and there’s no need for you to come down and—sugarplum? Sweetheart?”
She frowned at the phone, shaking the receiver. After it became clear that either the other person had hung up or the weird magic connection had cut, she tossed it back absently towards Giles, who hadn’t been prepared for this and caught it directly to the face. He crumpled.
“Oh,” said Marigold, “fuck!”
“Eh,” said Buffy. “This is just Tuesday for him.”

ROUND 1C, MATCH 1 OUT OF 8!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cause of Death & Propaganda Under the Cut:
Allison Argent
Cause of Death: Stabbed by a demon
Propaganda:
She's so cool! She fights with a bow and arrow, she has complicated feelings on her werewolf boyfriend and is allowed to work through that, she's best friends with another girl who's also a banshee (should've dated her) and one of her first scenes is her hitting a dog with her car and bringing it to a vet(she's a mess! She's caring)
she was the protag's girlfriend and only died because the actress had to leave the show. it left a hole in the show that they never really managed to fill, and she is only really brought up to say "let's do this, it's what allison would tell us to do" or "I wish she was here." her father stays on the show and helps them in her memory but he and the protag suffer and learn from it the way most male characters in this trope do. she is brought back to life in the movie but it was mostly an excuse to get the cast back together again and took place years after the show finished. I don't really feel that it counts since she died in season 3 and the show had 6 seasons.
Jenny Calendar
Cause of Death: Neck snapped
Propaganda:
Jenny is so beloved to me. She was sent to Sunnydale, California to watch over the vampire that killed her family (Angel), told that he was supposed to suffer for all eternity, but after he saved her life + after she spent some time with him and the people who cared about him, she realized that she'd changed her mind and didn't want anything to do with continuing a mission of vengeance -- especially since Angel's girlfriend Buffy was also the mentee/surrogate daughter of Jenny's boyfriend Giles! Messy! Despite this, when Angel lost his soul and it came out that Jenny had been sent there to watch him, Jenny was immediately blamed, even though she'd had no idea that Angel would turn evil and TOLD everyone as much! She decided to try and find a way to resurrect old magic and give Angel his soul back, and Angel killed her in retaliation. Parts of the fandom talk about Jenny's death like it was necessary/a good thing/a good writing choice, but I don't think it was. Jenny's death is talked about by the showrunners as "proving that anyone could die," and her dead body was placed in Giles's bed, surrounded by red roses, subsequently inspiring him to try to go on a suicide mission and kill Angel. When the kids are looking at a drawing of her dead body, one of them says, "Wow. Poor Giles." Her death is very clearly engineered to raise the stakes by emphasizing how sad it is for Giles to lose her, and before her death, nearly all of her scenes centered around being Giles's girlfriend/love interest. She was never given a chance to develop as a character, and the only backstory they gave her was designed to push her towards death.
Amber Volakis
Cause of Death: Organ failure after bus crash
Propaganda:
This show likes to introduce new casts of supporting characters and cycle through old ones (some of them leave, some of them stay in reduced roles, and sometimes they come back into a main role later, but sometimes they don't) and I do like that. Amber was probably one of the best ones introduced in the row of new characters in Season 4 and even stayed interesting after being fired. I wasn't a big fan of her dating Wilson but it wasn't the worst thing. And then she was killed off. And her death basically only existed to make Wilson sad, or House sad and "crazy", and just. I don't know. It sucked that her death even happened when she had so much more potential as a living character!

Note
the x files of course!! AND a fandom you want to do and/or think I would enjoy 🫶🏽
Aah thank you💚💚💚
TXF
Favorite female character: Scully the absolute love of my life! An icon. She will murder you with wit and science and a glare. She’s also the most protective person you’ll ever meet. She’s loyal to a fault and rational to an even greater fault, but also both of these save her (and Mulder) over and over. She’s nuanced. She’s sassy. She’s hilarious. She’s a badass. She breaks my heart. Character of all time.
Favorite male character: Mulder the absolute puppy of a man that he is. He has trauma. His self preservation skills are nonexistent. He would die for the truth but he will live for Scully. No one carries more love in their heart than this man. He almost dies every episode. He’s a genius. And an idiot. And a lover. And a fighter. But really mostly a lover if he didn’t have *trauma* I adore him!
Favorite Season: Season 5 could theoretically take this but for now still Season 2! In all its raw soap opera love story type glory. This is the season of desperate hand holding, of racing through the dark after one another and screaming into the night, of pulling each other back from Hell and undying loyalty in the face of unspeakable horrors. It’s desperate embraces and collapsing into each others arms and gloom and new love and every emotion is at level 100. Season 2 you will always be special to me.
Favorite Episode: I have two! One is Irresistible (which I have talked about extensively on here), and the other is Demons (which I will talk about extensively on here). You can see my love for angst and hurt/comfort and rescues lol (and you can find my thoughts on both episodes in my masterpost!) In many ways I think these episodes mirror each other, and they sort of form an episode quartet along with Unruhe and Anasazi. But that’s a topic for another post.
Favorite Cast Member: Gillian Anderson!
My favorite ship: “Mulder, I wouldn’t put myself on the line for anybody but you” “Scully, you are the only one I trust” MSR my beloved.
A Character I’d Die Defending: Fun fact Dana Scully has done nothing wrong ever actually all of her skepticism is valid and she’s a perfect human being.
A Character I Just Can’t Sympathize With: I don’t care if he’s a failed writer or whatever CSM is just an asshole and (hot take) not that entertaining to watch.
A Character I Grew to Love: Skinner! He started out lowkey boring, but I quickly was like “ooh he’s cool I like him” and then he got really interesting and nuanced (much more so than I anticipated).
My Anti OTP: I once saw a Scully/Krycek fic. That man had a hand in her abduction. No.
I think you’d probably like Buffy the Vampire Slayer if you haven’t seen it already (I’ve only seen 4 seasons but it’s always a fun rewatch for me)
Favorite female character: I have two! First is Faith who follows my trend of evil girls who are really just misunderstood and have never been loved. She was also my first real character crush! Second is Willow, who I just relate to a lot as a witchy lesbian nerd, and I want to give her a hug whenever she’s on screen and she’s so lovable and so layered and I love her very much.
Favorite male character: Probably Giles. I have a soft spot for parental figures and his relationship with Buffy is so sweet and layered and complex. Also he’s just an awkward British librarian who’s way too attached to a group of teenagers and I love that about him.
Favorite Season: Season 3! As dark as Season 2 but less melodramatic, plus Faith is there being hot and gay and evil! It’s not a perfect season but over half of these episodes are excellent.
Favorite Episode: Oh I’m not sure since it’s been a hot sec since I watched the show. I LOVED This Year’s Girl/Who Are You from Season 4, even though the season isn’t that great. I also love Five by Five from the spin-off Angel, if only for the ending scene.
Favorite Cast Member: Charisma Carpenter! I won’t get too into it here and I don’t know everything but she did some very brave things by speaking out against the show’s creators and I admire that.
Favorite Ship: Willow and Tara have my heart, but Faith and Buffy are SO fun! It’s a tie.
A Character I’d Die Defending: I won’t say Faith since I’ve already talked about her a lot. Instead I’ll go with Cordelia, who went through a lot of growth (especially if you watch her on Angel), and her growth was often unacknowledged by the show itself. Justice for my girl!
A Character I Just Can’t Sympathize With: This is ONLY about Buffy and not Angel, but I got SO sick of Angel by the time season 3 ended. He just sat there and was emo. I ran out of patience for him. He was great on Angel though (they let him do things besides mope and brood).
A Character I Grew to Love: Buffy! At first I thought she was sort of just a generic protagonist with some teen girl fun sprinkled in, but she’s got so many layers to her character and her fun is sprinkled with a real gravity that’s sort of a heartbreaking back and forth when you realize how young she is. I’ve also come to relate to her a lot more as I’ve gotten older, and the more I do, the more I like her.
My Anti OTP: Remember that time they tried to make Xander and Willow a thing? No? Me neither.
Ty for the ask:)

This may be me jumping the gun by judging the season too early (only just finished episode 6, which actually was pretty fun), but I dunno, Buffy season 3 is kinda turning into the "gas leak year" of BTVS?
It's mostly just the stink of the first two episodes, not really feeling the chemistry between Angel and Buffy (though I will say, Buffy is more convincing than Angel by at least an order of magnitude), and me being very adamantly anti Willow/Xander, but I have not really enjoyed s3 as much as the previous two seasons. Still very enjoyable for sure! But just... less?
On the topic of the first two episodes, they really kind of dropped the ball on both of them in two different ways:
For episode 1 of season 3, it was that they really advertised in bright flashing lights "Look at us! We are doing a Very Special Episode about Real Issues! This is a Serious Episode about Homeless Youth!" but they like... almost had it? You can see the ideas the writers had, and all the setup was there, with Buffy meeting Lily-Chanterelle-Anne, and the different ways they ended up in that no-name city (which I just assumed was Oakland... sorry Oakland). But the evil entity they had to defeat was maybe too... cartoonish? Like ok I know they were going for "cults prey on the vulnerable, just like runaway youth like Lily and Buffy" but then they kinda... trapped them in more of a looney-tunes-esque torture dungeon than any sort of metaphor-for-capitalism that actually landed.
And I think this episode made me realize how spoiled we are in this era of television post golden-age, because Buffy just resolves her character arc by punching some demons in the face... instead of actually having a resolution that made sense both for her character arc, and saving the day at the same time. One wonders if maybe an even more down-to-earth episode would have served its purpose even better in terms of Buffy's character arc, but I guess starting off season 3 with a bang trumped that.
As for episode 2 of season 3... well, it just felt like they weren't being fair to Buffy at all. Everybody acted like Buffy running away was like her committing multiple felonies, and everyone was so focused on how her disappearance affected how they felt and not even trying to understand what could have pushed her to run away in the first place! Especially her mom and Willow being so selfish in their reactions was quite unexpected for me (like Xander talking out of his ass and being a selfish dick I understand, but Willow?!), and whatever reasonable points they had were just kind of lost in them acting extremely unreasonable, and kind of just out-of-character just so Buffy can Feel Bad and be at Maximum Guilt for running away.
I would make an excuse like "oh maybe times were different and they didn't understand PTSD".... however In episode 1 of season 2, Buffy was also acting out and arguably being more selfish in her behaviour to her friends due to her PTSD from the events of season 1... but her friends called out her behaviour but still remained reasonable and empathetic towards her until she "snapped out of it" by the end! It doesn't make any sense that they would suddenly not know how to use these skills now a year later.
Anyway, with all that being said, I still find BTVS overall very enjoyable. And I feel like Giles has actually become the MVP of the season so far, with him actively searching for Buffy in ep1, advocating for her in ep2 and consistently being just cool and supportive and USEFUL, and of course, stealing the show in ep6. All in all, I'm just very invested in these characters.
Except Xander, I couldn't care less about him, ew.

Buffy turns to look at them with a confused frown. XANDER: No wait, that-that was a rocket launcher. (turns to Anya) Ahn, what are you talking about? ANYA: We should drop a piano on her. Well, it always works for that creepy cartoon rabbit when he's running from that nice man with the speech impediment. GILES: (rolls his eyes) Yes, or perhaps we could paint a convincing tunnel on the side of a mountain. Let's just keep thinking, everyone.

The Buffy Re-watch: S1E12 (part 1)
Prophecy Girl
The last episode of season 1. I ended up writing 9 pages (A5 Pages, I don't like writing on A4, A5 is just easier to hold and rest on my lap as I write), so this might be another 3 parter. Here goes:
First thing I noticed was that the sign for the Bronze changed after the last episode still had the fumigation sign on it.
Xander practicing asking Buffy out and using Willow is his practice person. Oh boy.
Buffy is off fighting, and she lands on her back/butt, then she pulls out a stake from the back of her waistband. How did she not get stabbed by it when she fell?
Giles really does put in some serious overtime as a Watcher. The man needs more of a life. But I get the importance of why he's putting in the extra the time.
Earthquake. According to The Master, a possible 5.1. Can someone explain to me how earthquakes are measured? We don't get them here in the UK, except for that one time in 2008? where we had a small one. I slept through it though.
Giles looks like shit, after finding out some very troubling news. As we saw in Episode 10, Giles' biggest fear is losing Buffy so her will try to do anything he can to prevent that from happening. He definitely has a father's love for her by this point.
Okay, here we go, Xander is asking out Buffy. He was direct and to the point, that's good, get's the message across.
THEN HERE IS WHERE HE RUINS!!! Buffy turns him down because she sees him as just a friend only. Her friendship is more important, more valuable than the possibility of starting an ill-fated with him that could ruin their friendship. He likes her ad asking her out was brave, don't have a problem with that. The problem is how he reacts to it. Buffy doesn't feel that same so it wouldn't make sense for her to say yes, that would be leading him on and would be wrong. She also has feelings for Angel and would cause problems there. Turning Xander down was the right thing to do in this situation. However, Xander's snipe 'I guess a guy's gotta be dead undead to make time with you?' was fucking uncalled for and cruel. You can't help who you fall for, but you do not get to punish someone because it's not you. When faced with rejection you accept what the person has said and move on. You don't ever act like an entitled asshole because they said no. And while Xander may have apologised for his little comment after Buffy rightfully calls him out for it, he doesn't mean it. He hates Angel and takes any opportunity to disparage him in front of whoever will listen. He says sorry to placate Buffy, but he doesn't actually regret saying it because he believes what he said. Rejection fucking sucks. Whether it's by friends, partners, jobs or university, it hurts. But it happens. It's a part of life and you need to get used to it, because if you always take it so hard and personally it will eat away at you and leave you bitter and angry at the world. If left like this your mental will be in tatters. Learn to accept rejection and move on. In Xander's case, he can either accept that Buffy's friendship is enough for him, or he can walk away if he can't accept it. To quote Billy Butcher from 'The Boys' (I love this show) 'Don't be a cunt.'
I'm going to leave it there for this part. I will have more to say about Xander in the next part, but it will mostly centre on Buffy. Part 2 tomorrow.

Just a silly thing I thought would be fun. Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a game in the style of Persona 3|4|5. You are the mysterious transfer student, moving to Sunnydale after getting kicked out of your old school for setting the gym on fire. All you want to do is go to class, make new friends, and live a normal high school life. The idea came from the combination of that post "The last TV show is now a crossover with the last video game you played." and a Buffy-themed tarot deck I didn't agree with some of the choices on. The major arcana is the Fool's Journey. The main character starts as The Fool and ends as The World. This would be Buffy. In the Persona games, your team is usually what ranks up your Fool arcana, so I put that there. The second video is who I think fits best for each arcana. I used two sources to help fit characters to arcana. The Fool’s Journey and Persona: Every Arcana In The Series I struggled a bit with Xander as he isn't really magically inclined but Magicians often tend to be the male best friend and Yosuke reminded me of him a lot. Plus he fits well as the masculine counterpart to Willow as the High Priestess. Angel's arcana is not anything about shipping, but his placement initially in the story. Spike seemed to fit Chariot so well, especially looking at his season three episode. There are only twenty free cards excluding the first and last, and way more characters than that, so I tried to mostly place major characters or recurring characters. I made a list for Angel characters, so anyone who is only in that series would be sorted there. All of the dialogue in the second video was taken from Welcome to the Hellmouth where Buffy and Giles first meet. A few notes on the art and the display. I wanted everything to have the style of Persona, so I reskinned the S. Links page and the dialogue to fit more with a Buffy theme. The pink-purple color I used was from a Buffy game and I thought it added that girly touch. The dialogue box was styled after Persona 4 but thought making it kind of an old book texture would work. I liked the way the date in Persona 5 is, so I went with that style, a more Buffy font, and that pink-purple color. I'm not really a UI designer, so it's not the best. This also isn't really an art style I typically draw in, so it's not as good as it could be. I generally draw more chibi and some of that crept in while I was trying to do a more Persona style. I'm not really happy with the expressions, but I'm sure a better artist could make a much better version. The background is an image of the library with a filter, it kind of fits how P3P shows their dialogue. The videos don't have audio as trying to get voice-over and sound effects to work is not something I'm great at. These are two of my favorite series and I think they have some similar themes. I hope people like this silly thing I made. This was just a fun project to combine things I like and practice drawing in a different style.

I don't know if someone asked this already but: AU where the final big bad of Buffy was the Council of Watchers. Or AU where Buffy *does* take Anya's advice on charging money, or a job in some way that's related to her slaying.
Oh, the Council as the Big Bads of Season 7 is kind of fun.
Trying to make this as different from my other S7 AU as possible, let's lean harder into the idea that no Slayer was called after Buffy died in The Gift. The Council know that Buffy died stopping Glory and (especially after what went down in Checkpoint) they're pretty pleased about it. No more Hell God and no more trouble-making, too-old Slayer. Win-win, right? Only ... they wait and wait all summer and no new Slayer is called to replace her, and then they learn Buffy is, somehow, alive again. How does she keep doing it? They decide that they're sick and tired of waiting for a new Slayer they can control and this time they're going to make sure they get one.
We start with the Council trying belatedly to patch things up with Faith. They start talking about getting her convinctions overturned and how she could be doing much more good out in the world, but she figures out pretty quickly that they're trying to get her to replace Buffy and tells them to get lost. So the Council decide it's time for Plan B. We cut to Ethan Rayne, somewhere in a military prison in Nevada. "Good news," his guard tells him. "You're getting extradited back to England. You can thank your new lawyer for that." Ethan is confused. What new lawyer? In walks Quentin Travers... As the season continues, Buffy still has nightmares like the ones we see her have in canon, but this time the girls she's dreaming about being killed aren't just Potentials. They seem to have full Slayer powers, though not much training or experience. Otherwise the first few episode of the season go mostly as in canon (except no First). Meanwhile Buffy herself [and also Faith, we later learn] starts to have moments where her powers start to fail her, just like back in Season 3's Helpless. In one of Buffy's dreams, the girl whose life she's experiencing is in the middle of a fight with some vampires when her own powers also fail her.
As Buffy and her friends soon work out what's going on. Somebody [spoiler: it's Ethan] is using magic to temporarily drain them of their powers and hand it to over to other Potentials. Only those Potentials aren't ready for it, the power transfer isn't stable, and the people don't seem to care that the new temporary Slayers keep dying. They track Ethan down (for handwaving reasons he has to be close to Buffy to do the spell), she recognizes some of the props he's using [the same crystals from Helpless, let's say] and correctly guesses that the Council are involved. While confessing, Ethan lets slip something about the Council being happy to keep doing this until "one of you" gets killed, and realizes that Faith is in danger. We cut to a version of Faith's introductory scene from Salvage: Faith's working out when she's attacked by another inmate. At first she effortlessly disarms her, but then suddenly her powers begin to short out. The other woman suddenly has the upper hand, but Faith is rescued at the last minute by Buffy herself, who has managed to break into the prison [possibly using that super jump from The Harvest the writers later forgot all about] to save her.
Buffy breaks Faith out of prison and they head back to Sunnydale. Lots of similar-to-canon vibes here [Buffy being very weird about Faith being back while blaming Faith for 'weird mixed signals', plus Faith being just as weird about the fact that Buffy once again chose to save her life]. For their part, the Council seem to have moved on to plan C: trying to get Faith and Buffy killed as quickly as possible. They use a mixture of their own agents and freelance assassins for this [maybe we can bring back the Order of Taraka too?]. Meanwhile Giles is in England and we learn that there's a growing split in the Council between Travers' faction and a group of people who aren't quite so willing to go along with all this dark magic stuff [can namecheck Gwendolyn Post here, maybe]. Ethan admits that he was just hired to demonstrate that the concept worked, and that Travers is working on a spell that will let him give and take away Slayer powers from any Potential he wants. He's already had dozens of Watchers send their Potentials to England for evaluation [and this is how we can meet Kennedy and any other Potentials we want to include].
Back in Sunnydale, the gang are brainstorming their next move when they get word from Giles that the anti-Travers faction have managed to kick him out and are inviting Buffy to England for (essentially) peace talks. Faith loudly insists that this a trap but when Buffy insists on going anyway because it will give them a chance to find Travers spell preparations and destroy them (and gives a big speech about how they have to do this, not just for their own sake, but for every Slayer who will be called after them). They go, and while it's not a deliberate trap -- and Buffy finally gets to meet the Potentials in person -- Travers does launch a final attempted coup; having his allies attack the Council headquarters to get rid of both Slayers and the rebel faction that tried to oust him.
The situation looks pretty bleak at first, as the anti-Travers faction of Council don't have much in the way of loyal fighters (all the hardline types like Weatherby have defected) and Travers has pulled together a small army of various minor villains from the history of the show. But Buffy and the others find Travers' ritual prepartions in a hidden part of his offices [maybe throw in something from Faith explicitly comparing Travers and the Mayor here?] and Willow is able to modify the ritual to cast a version of the spell she casts in canon in Chosen, activating all the Potentials who are then able to use their new strength to defeat Travers' allies. Standing in the badly damaged ruined headquarters of the Council building, Buffy tells the Council (including Giles) that they're not going back to the old way of doing things -- that the problem wasn't just Travers, but the whole institution he represented -- and this is the end of the Council giving orders. It wasn't just the Potentials in this battle that Willow's spell activated, but all of them. Then we segue into [a version of] the final moments of Chosen; Buffy and Faith standing where the Council used to meet and looking out over all the new Slayers. Dawn asks Buffy what she's going to do next, now she's not "the one and only Chosen anymore" and Buffy slowly smiles.

Currently Reading - July 2023
Signing up for summer reading was the best thing I did for myself last month, because now I get PRIZES for reading. (A lil watercolor set!)
Currently Reading:
To Shape a Dragon's Breath, by Moniquil Blackgoose - I heard about this book here on tumblr and roped Book Club into reading this with me, because I knew I was going to want to talk about it. So far it is very thought-provoking, and very fun. Dragons. Boarding schools. Indigenous rights issues. Colonialism. Steampunk stuff. All the things.
Currently Watching:
New Nurses, Season 3 (Hoopla) - A drama set in Denmark in the 1950s chronicling the admission of men to a nursing program for the first time. Seasons are 6 episodes long and so far it's a fun little program. Kind of a Call the Midwife vibe.
Just Finished: I didn't do a post for June so this is really long.
Endeavor, Season 9 (PBS Passport) - loved the way this finished.
Foundation, Season 1 (Apple TV) - Help, another space opera. (And shirtless Lee Pace…)
Van Der Valk, Season 2 (PBS Passport) - I just really wanted a crime procedural, and Marc Warren's Piet Van Der Valk (and his whole team, really) is kind of fun.
National Treasures, by Caroline Shenton - a nonfiction book about the evacuation of art from British Museums in the lead up to the Blitz. Sort of like Monuments Men, but with more stuffy academics in tweed. Very interesting and a gift from @junojelli
Cranford Short Stories, by Elizabeth Gaskell - This was an impulse buy at the library booksale, and I don't regret any of it. A fun and short read that made me want to rewatch the PBS miniseries.
The Gift of Rain, by Tan Twan Eng - Another impulse booksale buy. I loved Eng's Garden of the Evening Mists and couldn't pass up the chance to read the book that was nominated for the Booker Prize. I think I liked Evening Mists more, but this story was still really good - a story set in British-held (and Japanese occupied) Malaya during World War Two.
Good Night, Irene, by Luis Urrea - This book was amazing, and I hope everyone reads it. Urrea's ability to tell a story is great and I love that it was based on experiences his mom had during World War Two with the Red Cross Clubmobile service. Reading this one (sort of) with @shoshiwrites
The Rose Code, by Kate Quinn - Quinn is an excellent writer with a great grasp of historical detail and I've enjoyed everything of hers I've read. This book follows several Bletchley Park codebreakers. (Are we sensing a theme here??)
In the TBR Pile: mostly booksale buys I need to just buckle down and read.
Lessons in Chemistry, Bonnie Garmus The Marriage Portrait, Maggie O'Farrell Les Parisiennes: How the Women of Paris Lived, Loved and Died in the 1940s, Anne Sebba Churchill's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: The Mavericks Who Plotted Hitler's Defeat, Giles Milton Sisters in Arms, Nicola Tyrer * Millions like Us, Virginia Nicolson* (* Because @windylizmt figured out a GAP in my bookshelf re: British women's WWII experiences) An Unladylike Profession: American Women War Correspondents in World War I, Chris Dubbs, Bernadette Dunne, et al. A Thousand Years over a Hot Stove: A History of American Women Told Through Food, Recipes, and Remembrances, Laura Schenone

🔥 + s4
omg buffy or angel... well i consumed at least half of angel s4 on wikia so
anyway buffy season 4! not my favourite of all the seasons but i like her... she's fun! buffy is in college! my friend goes to ucla so when watching the first few eps i would send screenshots to see if they could identify locations that was fun for me (severely annoying on twt to an audience of zero people while first watching buffy). she gave us relatable post-high school transition where you start to drift from your friends and feel confused but are really truly just vibing... all my closest friends are people i knew in high school so i liked that aspect. that one scooby hug. i feel that using giles's apartment as the scooby base rly encapsulates this bc as a place it is like the perfect transition btwn school library and magic box where they are in s5/6... she gave us tara and lesbian willow. she gave us recurring character anya. she gave us spike at his most pathetic <3 spike and giles as roommates and spike and xander as roommates... moments in history.
i do wish that they had kept maggie walsh for longer and committed more heavily to like condemning the military rather than having maggie killed off and just like giving riley a minor crisis about it in goodbye iowa? idk like the initiative is bad but i think they should have gone harder on the questionable ethics, beyond oz getting taken + maggie going off and creating adam. like i think that adam should have turned on maggie later on, this might also help to better explore the riley / buffy / adam as soldiers idea which of course buffy does subvert at the end by being a slayer with friends. and riley kinda sorta breaks free. but yes adam could still try to instigate the demons vs humans thing because maggie wants to create more of him from the destruction, then have him turn on maggie later down the line and idk still have to be defeated for xyz reasons, maybe he kills maggie because he is sick of being a War Machine but still wants to go ahead with the plan/doesn't know anything different. or something. i haven't thought this through i was just a bit annoyed at the time. also i mostly do not think about riley ever tbh but he is kinda cute for me to look at like as a lesbian. it's funny whenever riley and buffy give strong comphet vibes.
anyway again i like that nothing awful happens to buffy and there are a lot of solid episodes and nice moments... fear itself, freshman, harsh light of day, hush, something blue, a new man all come to mind immediately as fun times. "i'm nice to meet" "capricorn on the cusp of aquarius" "well, you were myth-taken" "you're gonna get heartburn" SO true. "or someone formerly dangerous and currently annoying <3" this year's girl/who are you get its own mention for epic faith moments... but yeah i appreciate the more slice-of-life vibe as the gang start to find themselves outside the confines of high school and i'm actually kinda sad that they dropped the college setting as much as i love s5. mostly sad that buffy had to drop out :( to conclude s4 is my good friend 🤝

Which really loved/hyped Buffyverse characters, ships and episodes do you just not like very much, or at least like less than most fans seem to?! And remember that you really are so valued and cared for here - reading your stuff is one of the best parts of my day!
Thank you! You're so sweet :) For someone who doesn't have many followers I get a disproportional amount of asks, so, if anything, my anons clearly value me <3
Characters:
Spike (duh);
Cordelia - More so on AtS than BtVS, I think;
Buffy;
Faith - Only in seasons 3/4 of BtVS. I love her tons on AtS but was only able to connect with and enjoy her character there. I like Faith in BtVS season 7 though. I just don't understand the hype around her in BtVS season 3. I guess mostly I don't understand why people love her and Buffy's dynamic so much.
Are there more characters? Tara? I don't think she's overhyped, but I guess I like her a little less than most? There aren't many overhyped characters on AtS - quite the opposite, there are mostly underrated ones. Some fans probably think Wesley is overhyped? I think fans love Lindsey too and I never got the hype. Oh, and maybe Fred is a bit overhyped sometimes?
Ships:
Spuffy;
Fuffy;
Tillow;
Cander - I like Xanya but I know most people don't like Anya and prefer Xander with Cordy;
Spike/Angel - Hate them;
Lindsey/Angel - They're not that hyped but I think some people like them?
Jenny/Giles - Are they popular?
There aren't a lot of popular canon ships on Buffyverse. I know I'm missing ships, sorry.
Episodes:
Halloween - Absolutely hate this episode.
Passion - It's so annoying! I hate Angelus's cheesy VO and stalking of Buffy so much. The episode is so dramatic in such a cheesy way.
Bad Girls - This episode is so giffed, but it's not that memorable to me, probably because I don't care much about Faith and Buffy;
The Prom - I like the episode, but like many season 3 episodes it's not as good as people say.
Hush - It's good and super original, but it's also a bit boring to me;
This Year's Girl/Who Are You - Both are considered some of the best Buffy episodes, but I never cared for them, nor for SMG/ED's performances. Again, this is probably because I don't care about Fuffy, or Faith in the beginning;
Restless - Barely got through it once. I thought it was pretentious crap, just the kind Joss was great at;
Fool For Love - One word: Spike;
The Gift - Apart from the ending, the episode isn't really that good, I think;
Life Serial - I kind of remember this episode being hyped and seen as one of the best in season 6, but I don't remember enjoying it;
Once More With Feeling - Am I alone in barely getting through it once and hating all the songs and the actors' singing?
Conversations with Dead People;
Lies My Parents Told Me - I loathe this episode and the one above so much but I can't even remember which one's which;
Spin the Bottle - I like the episode, but it's really not as funny as advertised imo;
Destiny - I think some people like it for some reason;
Smile Time - I like it, but it's not that funny. It's just a solid episode.
Birthday? The Girl in Question? Are there overhyped Angel episodes? Maybe most early season 5 episodes? Fans seem to love this season and I don't, with the exception of the brilliant Wesley and Illyria arc, You're Welcome, Origin, Not Fade Away, and a few others.
Thanks for the ask and for the kind words! I know I've forgotten stuff, but, oh well...

hiiii!! can you please tell me abt milly chase please? thank you!
oh! the chance to talk about my most recent dearest? my obsessed? of course!
milly is. a hot mess. we’ll get to it. let’s roll back to the start.
milly, which is short for ‘miranda’, is cordelia chase’s sister. paternal half sister, actually, but nobody knows that until milly and her not-mother/cordelia’s mother get into a huge blowout argument circa season 3/4-ish. she and cordelia were assumed to the sunnydale public to be twins because that’s what the chases told them, even though the sisters didn’t look completely alike and milly is so short and cordelia is actually a few months older than her. milly has never celebrated her birthday on the actual day she was born. she was a cheerleader for about two years in high school until she ditches it because she was only doing it because cordelia dragged her into it.
she is personally a little obsessed with buffy. she wants to be like her. she’s jealous about the whole slayer thing. the second the scoobies form, milly is training. she might not be able to be the slayer, but she can train like her. she’s killer with a bow or crossbow.
on another note, milly is psychic in a death precognition way. she has these dreams about people dying. she tells nobody for a long time, and then only tells giles because she thinks he’ll know something. eventually she has to spill the beans after dying - since her last words were directly related to having somehow know spike was going to die and getting in the way of it, thus dying herself - and somehow coming back with her psychic abilities heightened.
a lil dynamics note on the other big characters: cordelia is her sister, she loves milly even after finding out about only being ‘half’ related; milly had a crush on willow in high school, she (mostly) got over it; she hates xander. she hates him wholly; giles is one of the only adults she trusts, they get along really well, i am pushing my ‘giles is a girldad’ agenda; faith and milly had a brief fling but it wasn’t exactly healthy; milly and dawn are really close, she’s the one who gets serious with dawn, even when it goes against buffy; milly is the only one who seems to remember anya was a demon and is learning to be human and as such is more forgiving with her bluntness.
if you notice that spike isn’t up there, it’s because there is too much to say about them. milly is a spikeship oc. their relationship is … tumultuous, to say the absolute least, but i love them.
anyway the milly pipeline from ‘i’m fine, someone will love me i just haven’t found them yet’ to ‘there is something fundamentally atomically wrong with me’ is steep and a stab in the heart. i have at least 3 lil plotted brain-episodes about milly’s descent into agony, my most favourite being her possession one.
