Penelope’s encounter with Ben had made her hopeful. Though he was still reluctant to trust her again, Pen had hope that she might be able to restore it in time. When she awoke, Rae was already rapping at her door.
“A letter, Miss Penelope.” The urgency in her voice was undeniable and it made a wave of worry rise in her chest.
Pen blinked the last remnants of sleep from her eyes and looked down at the letter in Rae’s hands. Had Ben written her already? It was a small note, barely enough to be considered a letter. It wasn't concealed with anything but merely folded into fourths and handed off at once. Such a simple note, and yet the possibilities of what might be written on it made her heart soar.
An invitation to Bridgerton house was always a welcomed surprise for Pen. But when her eyes moved to the signature, she nearly screeched with… excitement? Abject horror?
She made quick work of dressing and hurrying over to Bridgerton house, her hand trembling the entire walk over. Colin was back. He’d returned from his travels unexpectedly and he wanted to see her. It should’ve made her happy to think she was one of the first faces he wished to see upon his arrival back home, but all she felt was a sinking feeling of dread.
He awaited her in the drawing room, the same room she’d swept into numerous mornings with a smile on her face. But this time, her countenance only bore anxiety.
“Colin?” Pen croaked, a hand resting over her chest. He turned from his spot at the window and beamed at her, his puppyish smile making her cheeks burn with shame.
“Pen, I’m so glad you came. I know it is rather early, but I returned just this morning, and I couldn’t wait another moment to see you.”
It sounded too good to be true and, after the past few weeks, her heart was restless.
“Pen?" He repeated, concerned laced in his tone. "Is everything alright? I thought you would be rather glad to see me.”
“I am! Of course I am,” She muttered, fastening a gracious smile onto her lips. “I’m just surprised is all. I wasn’t expecting you to return so soon. And so unexpectedly.”
“Yes, well, I couldn’t’ve sent word ahead of time without Mother arranging an entire ball in celebration of my return. I simply wanted to come home and see my family. And to see you.”
Her cheeks ached as she fought to maintain an even expression. She was glad to see him home, it had been so lonely without a single Bridgerton to speak with. But so many things had changed since he’d been gone and she wasn’t even sure how to begin to explain her shift in demeanor.
“You must tell me of your travels.” She offered half-heartedly, but it was just enough to spin Colin into a story. Pen watched him with adoration, this man she'd loved for so long, listening to his tales of travel and adventure. Her smile tightened when he spoke of the beautiful women he'd met along the way, but she was determined not to let the cracks in her façade show. She would be happy for him, even if it meant destroying herself in the process.
After what must’ve been a half an hour of recounting the adventures he'd had abroad, Colin finally let out a sigh. “I apologize for talking so much, Pen. I’ve just had such an amazing experience and I wanted to share it with you.”
“Make no mistake, I love hearing your stories, Colin. But I really should be getting back home before Mama wonders where I’ve been. And,” She’s quick to add. “I’m sure your family would like to have some time with you as well. They’ve surely missed you as much as I have.”
“Yes, I suppose you’re right. I also intend to call upon Miss Thompson this afternoon.”
“Marina?” Pen blinked, unsure if she heard him correctly.
“Yes, I wish to inform her of my return as well. And to see how she’s doing. Have you heard anything from Miss Thompson recently?”
“Crane,” She corrects with a sad smile. “But no. The last I heard of Mrs. Crane, she was recovering from the birth of her son. And arduous task, I imagine."
“Yes, well, perhaps even more reason to pay her a visit. I’m sure she’s quite lonely in such a new landscape.”
“Yes, I suppose she must be. But, Colin, I really don’t think—”
“Well, I shouldn’t keep you any longer, then.” He closed the distance between them and extended his hand. “It’s been wonderful to see you again, Pen. We must catch up again some time soon. I’m eager to catch a moment with you before Eloise can hog you to herself.”
Pen shakes his hand and opens her mouth to retort, to explain the reality of the situation, but Colin simply smiles and brushes past her in his beautiful eloquence, leaving the Featherington girl speechless and frozen. Her smile fell and her eyes burned with the threat of rising tears. He hadn’t changed at all, it seemed. Or, rather, he’d changed exactly in the way she’d feared.
Her Colin had always been on the playful side, charming and charismatic, with a boyish need to please people. Perhaps even a little flirtatious, but he had always harbored a shyness to his person that Pen so admired. Now, it seemed that his travels had only ushered him further into manhood and the charming boy she once knew had been replaced with a blossoming rake.
She blinks away the oncoming tears and wipes at her reddening nose with her hand. If she was going to break down, she needed to at least wait until she returned home and was safe behind closed doors. If her heart were to shatter further, she wanted to be in solitary confinement when the jagged pieces fell.
After a beat to collect herself, Pen straightens the fabric of her bodice and takes a deep breath. She would overcome and endure, the way she always had. She would prevail in the end, but it would take a bit of suffering to get there. Quickly, Pen moves to the door and, as she does, her eyes catch a familiar face.
Ben. She lets out a soft gasp. Her chest tightened and a breath hitched in her throat. She truly couldn’t handle this right now. Her heart was already beginning to splinter and she wasn’t sure how long she’d be able to hold it together.
“Mister Tallmadge, good day.” She bends into a weak bow, her voice painfully strained by emotion. Pen sniffles and tries her best to hide the pain that crackled through her entire body. She can't bear to meet his gaze, so her eyes remain glued to the floor. She had already made Benjamin's life difficult enough, she needn't burden him with anything else, especially not more of her girlish woes. “I was just leaving.”
While they watched Penelope's retreating form, Caleb nudged Benjamin in the ribs. "She's got it bad, don't she?"
"Leave her alone," Benjamin admonished, the color rapidly rising in his cheeks. "You're not nearly as suave with the ladies as you seem to think, so you are the absolute last person who has any room to talk."
The whaler sneered. "Well! If I weren't feeling so hospitable, I might be offended by that remark." Tugging on his friend's sleeve, he encouraged, "C'mon, then. Might as well make good on our promise!"
Despite the false smile Benjamin wore, his gaze didn't leave Penelope's retreating form -- not even long after she'd disappeared over the horizon.
--
The night at the tavern was...uneventful. Although Benjamin allowed himself to speak with womenfolk and be (falsely) jovial, he couldn't quite bring himself to flirt back. The women had quickly lost interest in his half-hearted attempts, and only Caleb gleaned any luck from the whole affair.
Sullen and miserable, Benjamin graded Gregory's latest assignment while absently tapping his foot beneath his desk. Good God, he could scarcely stay still -- what was the matter with him? Could he really, truly allow himself to be controlled by an event that was no longer his to desire?
As if challenging his thoughts, a couple of voices arose from the foyer. Lifting his head, Benjamin recognized the masculine, soft-spoken timbre to be Colin's, and the second dulcet voice belonged to...
"Penelope," he murmured, a shock of realization shooting up his spine. In the other corner of the room, Gregory spared him a questioning look, but Benjamin was already rising from his seat. "You wait here," he entreated. "It sounds like your brother's back from his trip."
Gregory's eyes widened. "But if he's back, I want to visit!"
"After you finish those mathematical exercises," Benjamin agreed. "When I return, we can go out and visit him together."
The boy appeared a bit affronted, but otherwise nodded and returned to his work.
Benjamin, meanwhile, was heading down the hall to greet the third eldest Bridgerton son. But just as he moved to announce himself, he realized something about their conversation was not one to be interrupted. He remained silent, his hand upon the doorframe as he peered at both Colin and Penelope, both of whom had significantly lowered their voices.

BIOGRAPHY
The Thompson twins were born to self-made millionaire Leonard Thompson. A man who was seemingly absent throughout their childhood. Nevertheless their adolescence wasn’t terrible, for they never wanted for anything -- their parents ensuring they received the best of the best in every aspect of their lives. When it came to the food they ate, to the clothes on their back, the extra-curricular activities and even their education -- privileged was an understatement. And yet the one thing both Matthew and Rebecca longed for was a father figure, something they would never be graced with no matter how hard they tried.
While his twin sister did her best to exceed in everything she did in an attempt to gain their father's attention, Matthew went about it in the complete opposite way. The designated private school class clown, while the male’s grades were satisfactory his attitude was anything but, which often meant he spent hours in detention or subsequently was suspended. But no matter how many times it happened, his father didn’t seem to bat an eyelid, instead all he received was disappointment from his mother, the only constant the twins had.
While living the life of the 1% from the outside looking in seemed luxurious and exciting, for the twins it was exhausting. Being subject to regular arguments between their parents, with their mother disagreeing with the twins being forced to attend social gatherings and events in which their father all but used them as a tool to gain further support. Because he had the golden businessman image, but to add family man to that was to put him on a pedestal so few managed to reach. A rather ugly lie. Behind the scenes Georgina Thompson was desperately trying to shower her children with enough love to make up for the lack of presence of her husband all the while attempting to shelter them from life in the public eye.
Their lives however, would quickly unravel when their daughters death hit media headlines. The teenage heiress passed away as a result of a overdoes during a party at the age of sixteen. A fatal loss that never would have happened had her best friend and twin brother, not been anywhere but with Rebecca. Not only did it destroy his family, his parents blaming one another for her death, but it destroyed him. For he had lost a part of himself the day she died and he blamed no one but himself.
The decision then to move accross the state and attend the best medical university he could was all but made for him. Rebecca had dreamed of becoming a doctor and she had the grades and smarts to do so. Matthew however, had to work a little harder but with time, determination and the best educational tutors money could offer he eased into maintaining his grades and shifted into the top of his class and before he knew it graduation was in sight. Residency following in quick succession. Years later he continues to practice, having worked for a variety of hospitals, never remaining in one place for too long. More recently he's taken up a position on Marina Island in the hopes of a fresh start and new beginnings.

Part 4 (Colin POV)- A Country Ball
Hey! I'm not dead. I'm going to try to be motivated to keep posting this series but we'll see how it goes
Part 4 of Colin's POV of my 5 + 1 OC Story
Masterlist
Warnings: None
Word Count: 894
Series Summary: After his heartbreak over Marina Thompson and a wonderful trip abroad, Colin Bridgerton is finally starting to get his feet back under him. And when a new Lady debuts on the marriage market, he may be ready to give love another chance.
Summary: The night of the ball has arrived! But Colin notices an unexpected name on the guest list. It seems his past has come to greet him, whether he likes it or not. His family seems convinced he and Miss Dilber will be able to weather the storm, but at least one lady in attendance is determined to take advantage of the possible scandal.
“Anthony! Anthony!” Colin grabbed his brother and pulled him aside. It was about an hour before the ball and they were making the final preparations. Colin had just heard some very concerning news. “Is it true that you invited the Cranes?” Anthony sighed and pulled his brother into his study.
“Kate noticed that they were absent from the list and wanted to invite them. I didn’t think it was something she needed to know and I could not provide any other excuse.” Colin ran his hand through his hair. “You have seen Lady Crane since the wedding, have you not?”
“It is not myself I am worried about.” He hissed. “Do I need to remind you that I am actively courting Miss Dilber?”
“What has that got to do with anything?”
“She doesn’t know! I had hoped to keep it that way and leave it in the past. But if she is going to be here then every single lady in attendance will make sure that Miss Dilber finds out about my past with Lady Crane.”
“Colin, nothing truly untoward happened on your part. Yes, you moved quickly and acted a fool, but I doubt she will care about such things.” Anthony pointed out.
“I do not want her to think I have deceived her,” Colin admitted. Anthony rolled his eyes.
“It is not something you can bring up in casual conversation. Look, just take a moment to calm down. If people start talking, take her aside and tell her. Otherwise, just try to enjoy tonight. Because after it, I doubt you will have long before mother begins to pester you daily.” Colin shot his brother a glare, but there was no heat behind it. Anthony wasn’t wrong. “For the record, I think you should propose.”
“Really?” Colin asked nervously. Anthony smiled at him.
“Yes. She seems lovely, and you are clearly besotted with her.” Colin looked away. “Do not be embarrassed, between us I can acknowledge how smitten I am for Kate.” Colin laughed quietly. “Go on, brother. Enjoy the ball. Enjoy that girl. And for the love of god, enjoy yourself. It is off-putting to see you so serious.”
///
“Uh-oh.” Eloise’s quiet words drew the attention of both of her brothers, who she was using as shields from their mother. Colin had danced with Cassidy as many times as he could without causing scandal and had retreated from the other vying debutantes for a few moments.
“What?”
“Well…don’t panic, but Miss Cressida Cowper has managed to corner Miss Dilber- who was talking to Lady Crane.” Colin’s head whipped around. Sure enough, the three women were all gathered in the corner of the room. Cressida had her back to them, but he could see Marina and Cassidy. Marina looked ready to kill and Cassidy was staring at her with confusion. There was no doubt in his mind that Cressida was telling Cassidy everything. Without stopping to think, Colin began striding through the crowd as fast as he could. He didn’t know what he was going to do, but he couldn’t just watch this happen. But before he could reach them, Marina shoved Cressida aside, grabbed Cassidy, and stormed out of the room. Colin stared after them with dread sitting heavy in his stomach.
He didn’t notice when Cassidy returned. He had claimed Benedict’s hip flask and then when his brother stole it back, he had retreated to a corner and was just doing everything in his power to not panic completely. Luckily, few people had noticed the conflict, and whatever Marina had said was apparently scathing enough to keep Cressida quiet. Suddenly, Benedict nudged him.
“Look.” Colin followed his brother’s gaze. Cassidy was across the room. Her arm was linked with Marina’s and the two of them were laughing as they made their way over. They stopped right in front of him.
“Mr. Bridgerton. Mr. Bridgerton.” Marina nodded at both of them and it was enough to knock Colin out of his stupor.
“Lady Crane.” He bowed his head. “You look well.”
“Thank you, I am.”
“And how are your children?” Benedict added. “You had twins, I believe?”
“Yes. Oliver and Amanda. They are both very well.”
“I am glad,” Benedict said with a nod.
“Yes. I was just getting acquainted with Miss Dilber here. I know what it is like to be the outsider amongst all of this.” Marina waved her arm. “But we are coming up on the last dance of the night and I can’t let the girl sit it out. Perhaps one of you could take her?” Colin offered his arm without hesitation, wondering eyes on Cassidy’s face as she squeezed Marina’s hand before stepping away.
“I really can’t thank you enough. It’s so nice to be able to just have some girl talk without all of the plotting.”
“Of course.” Marina smiled brightly at them all, bowed, and then took her leave. Benedict mumbled an excuse and followed behind her. Colin stared at Cassidy, who glanced at him shyly.
“I don’t care what you’ve done in your past.” She said lowly. “Men can do far worse things than propose to a pretty girl and stay by her side through scandal.” Then she cleared her throat and straightened her shoulders. He was finally able to relax and shoot her a grin.
“Well then. May I have this last dance?”

Since you’re answering asks about the show—how do you think they’re going to handle Bridgerton house in season 2 and going forward? When Anthony and Kate move in and the rest of them move to number 5, most of the Bridgerton kids still live with Violet (idk where Colin and Benedict live in the show…?) And since Bridgerton house was one of the main sets in season one, it would be jarring to suddenly have the main characters of future seasons be living in a house other than Bridgerton house.
So…do Anthony and Kate move in with the rest of the family? Do they allow Violet to stay there until the kids grow up? (side note the scenes between Violet and Kate about passing down the title of viscountess is gonna make me so emo) Will they decide to break my heart and have kathony live off screen at Aubrey hall during all future seasons so it’s not a problem? Am I thinking about this way too much? 🤣
Hi Anon! Hope you’re having a good day! That's such a good question and something I've thought a lot about.
Bridgerton House is definitely the most important set and the main place where they all have dinner and congregate and later this will be No.5 from S3. I think they’re going to increase the amount of scenes all the Bridgertons have together as those scenes are so popular from S1 and the show is about the Bridgertons after all! Plus Ben and Colin will be focused on big time this season to build up for their seasons. Bridgerton is such an expensive show they’ll want to use the same sets as much as possible and they’re already expanding a lot for S2 with Aubrey Hall, the Sharmas and probably a few more sets. A lot of Anthony’s scenes take place in his father’s office in the books and S1 and they definitely will in S2, so Bridgerton House is very important. I reckon we’ll see Kate, Edwina and Mary in Bridgerton House for tea or dinner with all the Bridgertons at some point as well pre and post engagement. Bridgerton House is where we’ll mainly see all the unmarried Bridgertons together, especially Hyacinth, Greg, Eloise and Francesca as that’s where we saw them most in S1 (excluding parties and balls) and there’s not a whole lot going on for them unless the smaller ones get more of a plot but I doubt that. We’ll definitely see more of Eloise everywhere like we did in S1 anyway as her plot will be her debut to society!
I’m kind of curious if they’ll show any of Eloise’s suitors and possibly one she actually likes? As she does get a few proposals over the years in her book but she has 0 interest in any of them. I reckon we’ll see her just being the worst, funniest debutant in the history of London haha.
I think they’ll definitely do the move to No.5 but not properly until S3. It definitely will be jarring but I’m thinking they’ll make it a plot line for sure to show the transition and sort of the emotional impact of it, leaving behind Edmund and their family home. I could see Kate and Anthony moving into Bridgerton House in the last episode in the final scene of S2 like a year later with Kate recovered from her leg injury and pregnant, to set the scene for S3 as most of that will take place in No.5 with Sophie and the Bridgertons. No.5 is important for S3. I also think we'll see Violet and the Bridgertons having a moment together before they leave their childhood home either at the end of S2 or at the beginning of S3, as that's going to be emotional for them, particularly Violet as she’s leaving the place she lived with Edmund behind.
TVWLM ends in 1814 and AOFAG begins in 1815, which is when Edmund II is born. I’m thinking Kate and Anthony's role in the first 2 episodes could be Kate's struggles to adapting to motherhood or as Viscountess now they're living in Bridgerton House or something like that. Anthony struggles too possibly? Moving in with the family is actually a really good idea as that would definitely result in some humour as they all could get very sick of each other? Or it would just make it easier for the writers and the show to have everyone together. They could move in with the Bridgertons first and then they could leave just before the time skip in AOFAG. I really don’t see them all living together as that’s not how the books do it but who knows! I just really hope Anthony and Kate have a good sub-plot in S3. I'm thinking the first episode of S3 will be mainly about Sophie's childhood and life (or they could do it in flashbacks but for Sophie it would make more sense to just tell her story at once to understand why she runs away) and it will end with the ball scene, so Edmund’s birth fits in perfectly around then before the 2 year time skip. The ball scene could even be episode 2!
This also will be the year Francesca enters society and marries John so John courting Franny & their engagement will definitely be a sub-plot in S3, maybe only for an episode or two or we might only get an introduction and then we see them married. This will happen before the time skip which I can’t see them avoiding as it just throws the entire time line off. Anthony will be relatively involved in that plot as well and so will Violet.
Daphne's role in S2 intrigues me as she won't have Simon so to see where she fits in and if she has a plot herself will indicate what's in store for Anthony, Ben etc when they're married after their seasons and if their spouses stay on. Although, they will have a bigger role than Daphne regardless as the brothers always have scenes together and are relatively involved in their brother’s love lives. I can see Phoebe leaving after S2 but I would like if they focused on motherhood for Daphne in S2 and possibly helping Anthony out with courting and his love life if she does end up going. It would be sad but hopefully she stays! She might not really be in S2 we won’t know for ages anyway!
The show is so expensive that I think they’ll minimize the amount of sets they have to set up or locations they shoot on and for S2, I’d be surprised if Ben and Colin aren’t nearly always in Bridgerton House. Benedict and Colin seem to be living in Bridgerton House in the show from what we've seen so far, they're always at the house and they return from balls to Bridgerton House. Anthony is the only one who doesn't live there but we never see his bachelor lodgings and I don't think we will until their wedding night, unless we seem some scenes of him brooding on his own and pining over Kate haha. I can see Anthony gifting Benedict My Cottage at some point in S2 to set him up for season 3 and to help him escape London, but in his book Ben has his own bachelor lodgings which I don’t think we’ll see until S3. I don't think we'll see Colin's bachelor lodgings until S4 as that's when he gets a place in RMB after returning from his travels. I think they'll want to keep Colin in the show as much as possible so any time skips that's when he'll be traveling like when they ended S1 with him going off to travel and then flash forward to a year and Daphne and Simon have their baby. So when he’s in London, he’ll always be at Bridgerton House or No.5.
Going by the first season, I presume there's going to be 8 episodes in season 2. I think Kate and Anthony will be married by episode 5 like Simon and Daphne were. That leaves 3 episodes of Anthony's 'I won't love my wife idiot' stage. I would love for us to get a full episode of their honeymoon in Aubrey Hall but I don't think we will considering the book didn't have it and we're going to get at least 2 episodes in Aubrey Hall anyway. I do think one of the post-marriage episodes will be focused on Kate adjusting to the role of Viscountess and her bonding and having some very sweet moments with Violet and the Bridgertons. I hope they'll focus on her insecurities and her struggles with how Anthony is behaving and just how society has been treating her. Especially when Anthony ran off to Aubrey Hall after their engagement and left Kate all alone to deal with the whispers? I hope they address that and he gets some slack for it. I think there’s going to be a good few scenes in S2 at the Sharma residence as well and a few balls, definitely one at Lady Danburys, so we’re in for an amazing season!
Who knows what will happen but I could see them using very similar sets for Bridgerton House & No.5 in future seasons so it wouldn’t be a big change. No. 5 will still be a big household if it has the 4 youngest and Violet and occasioanlly Colin and Ben. I’m still not so sure about Eloise’s book and on, I think the strongest and most popular books plot wise are Anthonys, Benedicts and Colins and everyone is hyped for them. Daphne’s did extremely well though with a weaker book (that was still good just not a favourite of mine) so I have high hopes for them to do all the Bridgerton’s books. What I think they could do is possibly combine Eloise and Francescas for S5? As they’re both taking place at the same time in 1824. Gregory’s book was okay but it could be a good adaption as there’s so much going on. Who knows! They’ve already included Marina and Philip so that seems like an indication they would love to do them all and plan to?
I really went on here (again, do I ever stop talking). I don’t know what anyone else thinks but I’d love to hear! I could talk about Bridgerton forever tbh and I really do need to get back to the many invoices waiting for me <3 hope you’re having a good day anon!

colin bridgerton serie
ep four
words count: 1.4k fem reader! x Colin Bridgerton
warning: friends to lovers trope
summary: y/n Dayton and Colin Bridgerton were friends and they swore they'd always be but it takes a great deal of bravery to love someone, more to keep loving them when it hurts the most.
English is not my first language loves, trying my best, enjoy :)
It had been two days since the races and y/n still hadn’t spoken to Colin.
They had the Chronicles of Whistledown to keep informed on each other’s matters and that seemed to be enough.
Y/n’s father had tried to confront her multiple times but she always refused, head held high while she hid somewhere reading a book.
And it was fine, really, at least for a few days.
But that Wednesday night, as she was being dragged towards the Bridgertons household by Daphne, she really started to doubt her plan.
It was a lovely night, the soft breeze caressing her skin as she entered the big door.
"Here she is" Benedict welcomed her, his eyes kind and warming.
"Our guest is here!" Lady Bridgerton greeted, coming to hug her softly.
"It’s a pleasure, thanks for the invite".
"you are always more than welcome dear" the woman smiled kindly.
Anthony entered the hall, greeting the girl with a smile and a soft nod.
"Mrs y/n, just in time", he looked at his mother: "the others are waiting".
"The others?" Y/n asked, as Daphne led her towards the living room.
Anthony replied:"Yes, Colin had this crazy idea to invite-"
But he didn’t need to finish his sentence, as she entered the room, eyes meeting with the 'guests'.
Colin was standing on the left, a drink in his hand, in front of him, sat on the couch, Mrs Featherington with her three daughters and none other than Marina Thompson herself.
Lovely.
Colin gave y/n a side glance as he softly inclined his head, suddenly the drink in his hands looked rather interesting.
"Mrs Featherington, y/n will be our guest for the night" Violet explained as y/n greeted the crowd of people, suddenly feeling like a mouse in a trap.
"She and our Daphne are so close!" The woman continued.
Good move not mention her relationship with Colin, an expert move.
"Mrs Dayton" mrs Featherington rose from the sofa, "you already know my daughters", the girl nodded, sending them a smile, "while this is mrs Thompson".
The girl came forward, her eyes a deep brown while her curly hair framed her face perfectly; she was beautiful, y/n had to admit.
Great, now she was even more pissed.
"Nice to meet you" she spoke, a fake smile dancing on your face.
Marina smiled, nodding her head.
Anthony must have sensed the tension, as he spoke: "now that everyone is here I guess we’re ready for dinner".
"Oh god, sure!" Mrs Featherington exclaimed as everyone slowly made their way to the dining room.
"Benedict!" The Dayton girl called out.
Crossing the room to reach him she stumbled into Colin halfway, both shifting uncomfortably as he let you pass first.
It was awkward and hurtful enough to have kept their silence for so long, but inviting her to the same party as the girl who… it just felt cruel.
"Trouble between you and Colin?" Benedict wondered as y/n shook her head "don’t really want to talk about it" a breath "instead, where is Eloise, I must give her a couple of books".
The man looked at her for a few seconds before muttering that she was probably upstairs, waiting the last minute to get down.
That is how the girl quickly thanked him, making her way towards the girl room.
Half way to Eloise’s bedroom she realized that the only possible way out of a night that atrocious would have been to sail for America with the cynical Bridgerton girl herself.
An hour and a half later, they were still on their first dish.
Food was delivered with an exhausting slowness, so much that y/n wondered if it wasn’t done purposely.
Their sitting arrangements too, were they on purpose?
Colin was sitting in front of her, Marina by his side as y/n sat between Eloise and Benedict.
Her conversation with the girl not interesting enough to keep her completely engaged.
Y/n's ears suddenly seemed those of a bat; if she concentrated long enough she swore she could hear Colin’s gulps.
Small laughs and sweets words filled her ears as she tried as best as she could to finish her dish in record time; maybe if the food had been eaten more quickly, the agony would have ended sooner.
"So, mrs Dayton, any gentleman in sight for you?" Mrs Featherington asked.
It was enough to make y/n choke on her food, Colin’s eyes burning a hole in her head as she looked at the woman: "still nothing serious I suppose" the girl answered.
"I do not fall in love in a night" she couldn’t help but mumble, making Eloise choke on her own meat, laughters echoing through her nose.
Colin looked at her fiercely as he smiled softly, lips opening for a come-back.
"I suppose that if she stopped comparing real men to novel ones’ she would have already been married".
His words a punch in the throat.
Daphne looked anxiously to her brother Benedict as to ask what was the matter.
"Let’s not insult a woman for being well educated" Eloise defended.
Lady Bridgerton coughed softly as she specified: "it is in fact a virtue for a Lady to be well educated Colin".
"Even if it makes you lose touch with reality, mother?" Colin asked, his eyes glued to hers as she scoffed, "Colin sure would know; remind me mr Bridgerton, are you a good reader?".
Gregory snorted, "I have read more books than him", y/n smirked satisfied: "well then if you need it I can lend you some of mine, who knows, maybe you can take some Inspo for your compliments?".
"Alright dears, why don’t we eat the cake?" Lady Bridgerton tried to stop the bickering, "it’s a French one".
"How delicious, mother" Colin smiled bitterly.
It took half an hour to get up from the table and follow the Bridgertons to their living room.
Even tho y/n presumed that if it wasn’t for her and Colin’s bitter dialogue it would have taken more.
Daphne was playing a song on the piano as y/n excused herself with a smile, disappearing into the long corridors.
It was too hot inside, too stressful.
She so hated fighting with Colin, it was physically exhausting.
"y/n", his voice caught her by surprise as she turned around.
"What, round two?" She asked, a grin on her lips as soon as she saw his smile.
"I’m here to proclaim defeat" he took some steps forward, stopping only a feet away from her.
A minute flew by, in complete silence, as the two stared at each others.
When she opened her mouth again, she knew it was time to forgive and forget, so the voice came out softer, gentler: "I can’t believe you invited them the same night as me".
His eyes sorrowful, "I didn’t know you were coming" a breath escaping his lips, "why is it so hard for you to accept it?" He asked, his face contorted in a mixture of pain and confusion.
She felt hurt again, "it is not hard to accept you are happy Colin" a step closer "what have you taken me for? It’s obvious I wish you joy".
His eyes fell to the ground, "you hate the girl".
"I hate" she breathed, voice cracking "the idea of losing you".
His eyes shot to hers as his expression broke into one of compassion.
Taking her hand gently, he mumbled: "how could you ever lose me".
Suddenly, a pitiful pain she never felt before broke inside her chest as she realized, terrified, that it did not matter how well she was gonna choose her next words, nor how strongly she wished for it not to happen: Colin was gonna get through with this.
He even invited her family over for god sake.
She knew, with every fiber of her being that that exact moment was the changing point; both had turned the corner and there was no way back.
With her hands in his, as he was staring right into her soul with those green eyes of his, for the first time since she knew the man, she lied.
"you’re right" a breath, followed by a reassuring smile "if you like her that much maybe she is just fine".

oh god, it's you
Summary: Y/N has been in love with Colin Bridgerton for years. The year she makes her debut, however, Marina Thompson appears and Y/N has to watch as her one true love is stolen away.
"Are you ready?"
Y/N looked up at her mother and smiled nervously. She smoothed down the skirt of her dress, fingers running over the tiny jewels embroidered on to it.
It was a beautiful shade of ivory with gold embroidery around the bust and the hem and the fabric trailed behind her, showing off the extensive floral embroidery on it. Her hair had been pinned up in to an extravagant coiffure with a tiara on top and her mother had added the traditional white feather to top it all off.
"I believe so," Y/N whispered, pulling her gloves up and making sure everything was in place.
She'd doubled checked herself before she'd even left her room that morning but she was still nervous that something was missing or wasn't in the correct place.
Her mother put a hand on her cheek and smiled. "You look beautiful, darling."
Y/N smiled. She saw the footmen move to grasp the door handles and she turned to face the double doors, straightening her back and raising her chin.
"Presenting Miss Y/N Y/L/N."
The doors swung open and revealed Queen Charlotte sitting on her throne, looking thoroughly bored by the entire affair. But the moment she laid eyes on Y/N, the queen sat up straighter, looking intrigued.
Y/N and her mother had rehearsed for weeks on how to walk without stumbling and looking down at the ground. How to keep eye contact with the queen and not fall. How to keep your chin up and eyes straight.
Y/N walked slowly and gracefully down the hall, towards the queen, making sure each and every step was even and carefully placed. Out the corner of her eye, Y/N could see the Bridgertons watching on with smiles on their faces.
Her family had been friends with the Bridgertons for years and Y/N was incredibly grateful that Daphne was making her debut at the same time she was - it made it a little bit easier having a friend in the same position she was.
What Y/N couldn't see, mainly because he was hiding behind his brothers, was that Colin Bridgerton was openly staring at Y/N as she walked past - completely and utterly enthralled by her.
Colin hadn't seen her for almost a year - he'd been off travelling and the two hadn't had a single chance to catch up. But watching Y/N make her debut, Colin realised just how beautiful she looked and how much she'd changed since he'd last seen her.
Y/N came to a halt just a few feet away from Queen Charlotte and paused for a moment before moving into a deep curtsey. She'd rehearsed this bit too with her mother, making sure she could keep her balance and not topple over whilst she waited for the judgement to crash down on to her.
It felt like hours. Y/N could feel her legs beginning to burn and silently wished for the queen to hurry up.
She heard the queen move and took a deep breath in, steeling herself. The queen's gloved hand gently grabbed her chin. She slowly tilted Y/N's head up to look at her. Y/N met her gaze and smiled.
"Stunningly done, my dear," the queen said and Y/N felt all the weight vanish off her shoulders. "Beautiful."
The queen leant forward and pressed a kiss to Y/N's forehead. Y/N waited until the Queen moved back to her seat and then stood up from her curtsey and walked back a few steps, a footman grabbing the train of her dress and walking back with her.
"Well done, my dear," her mother whispered and Y/N smiled to herself.
Y/N allowed herself a quick glance over to where the Bridgertons stood and found Colin, beaming at her. She felt the butterflies hit her stomach at the sight of her friend and her smile grew.
Y/N had been in love with Colin for years - he'd never realised of course. Colin could flirt with a plate of food but was blissfully unaware of his best friend flirting at him. But maybe now, now that Y/N would be at the balls and be dancing in the moonlight, he would realise.
Lady Danbury's ballroom was beautiful. There were candles lining the walls and the floor to ceiling windows and the floral arrangements sat on tall, golden plinths.
Y/N stepped into the ballroom, her arm linked with her mothers, and tried not to openly gape at the beauty.
"Close your mouth, Y/N," her mother chided gently, her eyes twinkling with laughter, and Y/N clamped her mouth shut.
The women's dresses sparkled in the candlelight and it was like she had walked into a dream.
Colin had spotted Y/N as soon as she walked in. He'd been mid-conversation with Benedict and had trailed off as soon as he'd seen her, forgetting his brother was even in front of him.
"Go ask her for a dance," Benedict said, shoving his brother forward. "And stop gawking."
Colin glared at Benedict over his shoulder as he approached Y/N.
Y/N's eye lit up as she spotted him. "Colin!"
"Hello, you," Colin replied, his own smile rivialling Y/N's.
Y/N stood on her tip toes and wrapped her arms around his neck, relaxing into him as the familiar feel of a hug from Colin washed over her.
She'd missed him. She'd missed his presence and the way he could make even a bad day better.
"You look gorgeous," Colin said as Y/N let go and stepped back.
"Why thank you, Mr Bridgerton," Y/N said, her smile growing. "Can I entice you into a dance?"
"Of course," Colin said, reaching out for Y/N's dance card, his hand wrapping around her wrist. Y/N could feel the warmth of his fingers threw the fabric of her gloves and tried not to let the butterflies she felt show on her face.
He leaned his head down, his eyes concentrating as he scrawled his name onto the card and Y/N could smell his cologne. She was completely besotted with him, annoyingly.
Y/N tried to hide her disappointment as Colin let go of her hand and stepped back. His name was written in his familiar, messy scrawl at the top of the card. He'd even put a tiny x next to his name and Y/N laughed.
"Do you actually want to give me the kiss?" Y/N asked, looking up at him with mirth in her eyes.
"Are you asking me to?" Colin challenged.
"I thought my question was obvious," Y/N replied, smirking.
Colin leant forward and pressed his lips to her cheek, giving her a quick kiss. A kiss that meant nothing to Colin but meant everything to Y/N.
"I shall see you for our dance, Mr Bridgerton," Y/N said as her mother returned and began dragging her away.
The night continued on and Y/N danced and chatted with numerous other suitors but she couldn't help but watch for Colin. She hadn't seen him since he'd promised her a dance and was beginning to think he'd forgotten her.
Y/N bid farewell to yet another suitor and found herself alone, loitering on the edge of the ballroom. She looked around and spotted Colin on the other side of the ballroom. Dancing with someone else.
She would be lying if she said it didn't hurt. He'd promised her a dance and yet there he was, dancing with another women. Colin was a rake, yes, but he still had respect and kept his promises. Or so Y/N had thought.
Y/N looked over at her mother as she approached her and smiled sadly. Her mother followed her gaze and sighed, putting an arm around her daughters shoulders.
"Do you want to leave?" Her mother asked softly.
Y/N shrugged. "I am not sure. Perhaps."
Her mother squeezed her shoulders. "Let me know if you want to."
Y/N looked around and found Colin again, dancing with a young woman she'd never seen before. And even from a distance, Y/N could tell that Colin was completely and utterly besotted with her.
The next day, Y/N had numerous suitors call upon her, although according to Lady Whistledown, Marina Thompson - the mysterious woman Colin had dance with the night before - was the star of the season. The one who everyone was flocking too. The one Colin had fallen in love with.
The weeks passed by in a blur of balls and garden parties and dances and Y/N hardly saw Colin. She visited the Bridgertons and spoke to Daphne and Eloise but she never saw Colin.
Not until the garden party.
Daphne and the Duke of Hastings had just gotten married and now the eyes of the ton were back on Y/N. She'd had many suitors but none of them were Colin. None of them made her smile or laugh like Colin did.
So, she waited. She waited for Colin to move on from Marina and to speak to her again.
Like a fool, she waited.
And then Colin made the announcement that shattered her entire life.
"I have asked Miss Marina Thompson, to marry me," Colin said, beaming at Marina as he spoke.
And suddenly the world came crashing down onto Y/N. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. The smile on Colin's face - he looked so happy. She couldn't cope with that smile - it was the smile that made her weak at the knees. It was her smile.
But now it was destined for another. So, Y/N plastered a smile on to her face and walked up to Colin and Marina, despite the fact she felt like she was dying.
"Congratulations, Colin," Y/N said, hugging her friend. "I am incredibly happy for you."
Colin kissed Y/N on the cheek as he let go of her. Y/N closed her eyes for a second and she was back at Lady Danbury's, her heart still in one piece.
"Thank you, Y/N. I don't think you and Marina have met yet, have you?"
Y/N shook her head and smiled at Marina. "No, we have not yet had the pleasure."
Marina held out her hand and Y/N shook it. "It's a pleasure, Miss Y/L/N."
"Y/N, would you mind joining Marina and I for dinner with our families?" Colin asked, nudging Y/N's leg with his foot when he noticed that she wasn't paying attention. "I could do with someone in my corner and I am sure Marina would appreciate a friend in the room."
Y/N swallowed and nodded, still smiling. "Of course I will, Colin. Anything for a friend."
She was a fool in love.
Y/N cursed herself and her kindness. Why she'd said yes, she did not know. There was no reason for her to be at the Featheringtons but her loyalty to Colin and her love took over her senses.
The Bridgerton carriage rolled up and she turned around to greet them, pulling her shawl around her shoulders. Colin jumped out the carriage and immediately looked for her, his eyes finding her in the dim, dark light.
"Hello, Y/N!" Colin said, approaching her and hugging her. "I am so glad you are here," he whispered, letting go.
Y/N smiled but it didn't reach her eyes. "I am glad I could be of service."
Anthony approached Y/N and pressed a kiss to her cheek. "Thank you for doing this, Y/N."
"Nonsense," Y/N replied, still smiling. Smiling was stopping her from crying. "Anything I can do to help, I will gladly do it."
The four of them walked into the Featherington household and Y/N's eyes immediately found Marina, looking as beautiful as usual, standing in the foyer, waiting for them.
Y/N frowned slightly as she looked Marina up and down. Something was different about the woman. She looked different. Her dress looked tighter around the middle and her face was glowing but she also looked exhausted.
Lady Featherington quickly ushered them all into the dining room and Y/N walked with Penelope, happily sitting down next to the young woman at the table.
The conversation wasn't boring or uninteresting, but Y/N kept looking at Marina.
Because she was looking at Marina, Y/N began to notice the odd things she did and didn't do. Marina didn't once touch the wine, sticking to the water. She avoided the seafood and stuck to the chicken and potatoes.
Most importantly, however, was that Marina's right hand kept dropping to her stomach and hovering over it.
And then it hit Y/N. She had two older sisters, both with two children of their own. She wasn't an idiot.
Marina Thompson was pregnant.
The dinner went quickly after Y/N's realisation and Y/N soon found herself sitting in between Anthony and Violet, being subjected to the other two Featherington girls sing.
Penelope stood up all of a sudden and walked out the room, tapping Y/N on the arm as she passed behind her. Y/N frowned but got up and followed Penelope out into the corridor.
"Yes, Pen?" Y/N asked, approaching her with a confused frown.
"You know, do you not?" Penelope asked, looking at her and wringing her hands.
"I know what?"
"About Marina. I saw your face at dinner," Penelope explained.
Y/N sighed, trying to think of an answer. "When you have two sisters, each with their own children, you know the signs. Does Colin know?"
"No, and I have been meaning to tell him but I do not know how," Penelope rambled. "He deserves to know, he should not have to be roped into this because Marina lied to him!"
"Alright, Pen, alright, I will see what I can do," Y/N said, smiling at her friend and placing a hand on her arm. "I will try."
"Are we all trying to save our hearing?"
Y/N sighed and closed her eyes at the sound of Colin's voice. The butterflies came back and she felt like a fool for still loving him when he clearly loved another.
"Excuse me, I should go back," Penelope said, smiling. She brushed past Y/N and dodged Colin, leaving them both alone in the corridor.
"I think Eloise can sing better then those two," Colin joked approaching Y/N as Y/N turned around.
Y/N didn't reply and Colin narrowed his eyes. He took Y/N's hand in his and as soon as his hand grabbed her gloved one, Y/N felt like she'd been electrocuted. She could feel the warmth of his skin and the way he gently rubbed his thumb along the back of her hand set fireworks off inside her.
"Whatever is the matter?" Colin asked, his eyes looking into Y/N's for an answer.
"Nothing, Colin," Y/N replied, forcing a smile to her face.
"No, I can tell that something is bothering you." Colin's thumb stroked the back of her hand. "Tell me."
Y/N's smile dropped slightly. He sound so sincere and concerned and the patterns he was drawing on the back of her hand sent her heart racing.
"I am merely exhausted by the season," Y/N explained, forcing herself to squeeze Colin's hand reassuringly.
Colin didn't look convinced. "Are you sure?"
"Of course."
He nodded and let go of her hand, leaving Y/N's hand feeling cold and empty. Colin wrapped his arms around her in a hug and Y/N embraced him back, nestling her head in the crook of his neck and relishing in the feeling of her best friend hugging her.
"Colin?"
Colin let go as Marina stepped out into the corridor and Y/N mentally cursed the woman for ruining the hug.
"You're brother is asking after you," Marina added as Colin stepped away from Y/N, his fingers brushing hers.
"Well, he can wait," Colin replied smiling. "Excuse me, ladies."
Colin turned and jogged up the stairs, leaving Y/N and Marina alone. Marina went to walk back into the room but Y/N spoke, her words halting Marina.
"I know," Y/N said quietly.
Marina froze. She looked back at Y/N. "I'm sorry, I don't -"
"I know," Y/N repeated, her eyes lowering to Marina's stomach. "I have two older sisters, Marina. I know the signs."
All the colour drained from Marina's face. "Y/N, I -"
"Are you going to tell him?" Y/N asked softly. "Or are you going to let him go in blindly? Because if you tell him, Marina, I guarantee you that that man will not leave your side and will take that child as his own. He will not question you, he will simply love you and raise that child as his because he is a good man.
"But if you do not tell him and let him wander into this blindly... I do not know if I can stand by and watch."
"Are you threatening me?" Marina asked, her eyes narrowing.
"No," Y/N said quietly. "But if you do not tell him, Marina. Then someone else will and then where will you be?"
Y/N was very surprised when Colin magically appeared in her drawing room the following morning, holding a large bouquet of flowers.
"I wanted to thank you for coming last night," Colin explained, setting the flowers on a table. "Anthony and mother do not believe that my feelings for Marina are real. We are thinking of eloping up to Scotland-"
"Eloping?!" Y/N exclaimed, a little louder than she intended. She winced. "Sorry, I do not mean to do what your brother has been doing I am just..."
"Surprised?" Colin finished, smiling slightly. "I really love her, Y/N, I do and I do not wanting to have to wait."
Y/N was raging an internal war with herself. She didn't want to ruin the happiness that was so evident and clear on Colin's face but she didn't want him to marry Marina blindly.
As his friend, she had a duty to him to tell him the truth.
"Colin," Y/N began, "I feel like, as your friend, I need to tell you something."
"What is it?" Colin asked, frowning, the smile fading a little.
"I believe that Marina is lying to you, Colin. I..." Y/N trailed off with a little sigh. "I believe that Marina is pregnant with another's child, Colin."
Colin stared at her. "That cannot be true, Y/N. Marina would have told me. She cannot be pregnant."
"I have two older sisters, Colin," Y/N said softly, "I know the signs."
"Why are you doing this? Why would you make up such cruel lies about my future wife?" Colin asked, hurt and pain in his eyes.
"I am not lying, Colin!" Y/N exclaimed, offended he even assumed that. "Colin, I am telling you because I do not want you to go in blindly and end up being stuck with another's child!"
Colin shook his head. "I thought you were my friend, Y/N. Are you jealous of Marina? Is that why you are doing this? Are you jealous of her success in the marriage market? Jealous of the fact that she has found someone and you have yet to despite what the queen said?"
Y/N gaped at Colin. "Colin, I am trying to look out for you because you are my friend and yet, here you are, insulting me in my own house! I have yet to find a suitor because I was waiting for you!"
"Why were you waiting for me?" Colin asked, frowning.
Y/N paused, realising what she had said. She looked down and then up at him, knowing that it was too late to go back. Her friendship with him was already ruined. She'd dug herself a whole and might as well add the six feet of dirt on top.
"Because I love you, Colin," Y/N said softly. "And I have loved you for years and yet, here you are, telling me that I do not have your best interests at heart and that I do not care.
"Y/N, I -"
"Get out my house, Colin," Y/N said quietly, venom in her tone, her heart shattering. She pointed to the door. "Please," she added, her voice even quieter.
Colin blinked, feeling tears stinging his eyes. But he listened to his friend and turned around, walking out the room.
Y/N waited until she heard the front door shut before sinking into the sofa and burying her face in her hands and sobbing. She looked up at the flowers sat on her table - a mixture of her three favourite colours and flowers - and sobbed even harder.
The one man she'd ever wanted had slipped through her grasp like sand.
Two days later, Lady Whistledown arrived and broke the news to the ton.
Marina Thompson was indeed pregnant and had deceived everyone.
Y/N kept her distance from the Bridgertons - she hadn't spoken to any of them since she had kicked Colin out of her house. But attending the queen's garden party was unavoidable.
It was a cold, windy day for the summer season and Y/N was glad she decided to wear a shawl with her dress. She mingled with the other guests and smiled at the right time but she wasn't present. Her mind was back in her front room, re-living the moment her heart shattered.
She noticed the moment Colin arrived with his family, looking exhausted and fed up with the world. But she didn't approach him. She sunk further back into the gardens in an attempt to avoid him.
It didn't work.
Ten minutes after he arrived, Colin found Y/N in a side garden, sitting on a swing, deep in her own thoughts.
"Y/N," Colin called softly, ducking through the gap in the hedge.
Y/N looked up but didn't smile or react. "Hello," she said, looking back down at the grass.
Colin paused, noting the absence of a smile on Y/N's face. "I wanted to apologise to you about what I said. You were trying to look out for me and I did not listen. And it turns out you were right. And for that I am sorry."
"Colin," Y/N said, looking up at him again, "I did not want to hurt Marina or you. I simply did not want you to be caught unaware by the secret and be forced into it. I told Marina to tell you and that if she did tell you, you would not leave her. I tried to protect you both but neither one of you wanted to listen."
Colin began to slowly walk across the grass to the swing where Y/N sat, pushing herself back and forth with her foot.
"I truly am sorry, Y/N," Colin said again, hovering in front of her, just out of reach. "But... what you said, about loving me -"
"Colin, please, do not even go there," Y/N said quietly, refusing to look at him. "I did not mean to tell you that - it was said out of anger and whilst it is true, it does not matter. Not anymore."
Because why would a man like you, love a woman like me? Y/N added in her head.
"Y/N, it does matter," Colin said. "It matters to me. Because my best friend is in love with me."
"Yet my best friend is not in love with me," Y/N scoffed, raising her eyes. "It's fine, Colin, I would never expect you to fall in love with me. I look around the ton and see many other women who would draw your eye - who have drawn your eye - and it is fine. I never meant to fall in love with you, Colin. It happened slowly and then all at once and by the time I realised, I could not stop it.
Colin stepped forward. His leg brushed Y/N's as she swung forward and he reached out a hand, grabbing the rope and halting her. He looked down at her as he knelt down in the ground in front of her.
"Y/N, I too am in love with my best friend. Except I never thought my best friend loved me in return. So, I tried to push my love aside and find someone else," Colin said softly, his hand dropping to rest on Y/N's knee.
She could feel the warmth of his hand through the fabric of her skirt and goosebumps ran across her arms. Colin was on his knees in front of her, professing his love to her.
"Seeing you with Marina hurt me and now I do not know if I can trust you again, Colin," Y/N answered honestly. "I give you my entire heart and you threw it away."
"I know."
"And forgive me if I do not believe you -"
"But it is the truth," Colin replied, cutting Y/N off. "And you know that I rarely lie. Y/N, I love you. You are my best friend and I love you with all of my heart. I do not care about how long it will take for you to come back to me because I will wait. I will wait until you are ready to be loved again, because you deserve it. And I want you."
Y/N sighed. She leant forward and put a hand to Colin's cheek, stroking her thumb across his cheekbone. "You'll wait for me, no matter how long it takes?"
"I promise you, I will wait for you, Y/N," Colin replied, placing his hand over hers - over the one that still rested on his cheek.
Y/N leant further forward and kissed his lips, briefly and lightly. "Thank you."

Word Count: 478
Author: Charlotte
The two of you spent time continuing to walk around the gardens as you made plans for your wedding. You both expected that it was going to be a long time of planning and forming an extravagant wedding as you knew many people had at your status in society but that wasn’t what either of you wanted. Within an hour of talking, you had both come to agree on a plan and although it would make you both very happy, you knew it wasn’t going to go down well with his family but either way, you were going to have to tell them.
Hand in hand, you headed to his home where he called out for his mother and siblings for an important matter. It took a couple of moments for everyone to come together in the drawing room but once they were all there, you could see the questions crossing each of their faces.
“What’s going on?” Benedict asked, gesturing to the interlaced fingers of the two of you.
“Colin proposed,” you stated holding up your left hand to show the ring on your finger. “And I said yes.”
You could see confusion on everyone’s faces.
“Aren’t you engaged to Marina Thompson?” Gregory asked.
“Don’t be daft,” Hyacinth stated, slapping her older brother. “They separated over a week ago.”
Silence fell again before Violet stood up with a forced smile on her face.
“That is lovely news my dears,” she said. “There will be much to plan.”
“Actually mother, we have already planned everything,” Colin stated.
“Really?”
He nodded his head. “We have actually arranged everything that is needed.”
Anthony looked far from impressed. Although you were a woman of status, the fact that Colin had only just ended an engagement with Marina due to her pregnancy, a fast marriage between the two of you would look far from well.
“And when is this to occur brother?”
“Tomorrow.”
Everything fell silent again until Eloise’s laughter erupted getting a glare from her eldest brother and her mother.
“Did you just say tomorrow?” Daphne asked.
You nodded your head to confirm it.
“We wish to marry right away, and we already paid for passage to France for the day after tomorrow.”
“France?” Several of the Bridgerton’s exclaimed.
“We have always spoke of travelling and thought it wouldn’t be possible due to who we would marry but together we can travel across the continent and beyond.”
“Colin!” Violet stated firmly.
That was only the start of the onslaught of questions and disagreements that came from his family but the two of you stuck to your guns and were wed in the morning even if his family disapproved and were packed up into a carriage within the hour of the humble ceremony to head towards the docks where you were to stay the night before heading off for the biggest adventure.

On March 13th, 2022, I was absolutely blessed to attend the “Jim Carter in conversation with the cast of Bridgerton” event at The Kiln in London. Adjoa Andoh, Bessie Carter, Nicola Coughlan, Ruth Gemmell, Martins Imhangbe, Golda Rosheuvel, and Luke Thompson were there! It was a magical freaking event and so while we have just a few hours left until we get Anthony and Kate (and Newton), here’s what they talked about (/ I observed)
- Luke’s bisexual sitting: one leg under butt, both legs under butt, like almost kneeling perched on chair
- When giving advice about going for auditions - Luke said that you can have a bad day or week and that happens. Like with experience you don’t not have bad days and always nail auditions. He still has bad days. And that if you don’t get a part, maybe it was just you weren’t right for it. Sometimes you’re just wrong for the part. Like not that you’re bad but that you’re just not it. And that’s ok. No one is always going to be the right fit all the time. Nicola says that they still get rejected a lot. And she gives herself one day to be sad and then forces herself to move on. Other cast members agreed with Luke’s assessment. Someone said that like the casting folks want you to be the right person, they’re not out to get you.
- The Featheringtons had a dog. Penelope took it from Marina but then it just sort of disappeared. They have no idea what happened to the dog.
- They don’t get all the scripts, just more of whatever their relevant bit is.
- They love the Shondaland spin on it. And season two is just Shonaland Bridgerton world
- Bessie said that when she was getting fitted, the costume lady had designs of historical pieces and then was like “Shonda” on the other side when talking about how Bridgerton was Shonda-fied
- Luke admires Ben’s openness and he thinks that’s part of what was being done with his sexuality - or like with those scenes in season 1
- In s2, Penelope is getting some income as Lady Whistledown and she stores it under her floorboards. And she was talking to Luke Newton about it and he was like “At your flat?” Like legit thinking she was storing her real money under the floorboards in her flat. And she was like “No, Luke, there’s a concept called a bank that I use.” And everyone had a right giggle over that.
- Ruth (as Violet) liked telling Anthony off
- They feel like a family. They think it’s part because most of them have done stage acting and stage acting brings you together to form a family and they feel, especially after season two with the covid protocols that they’re a family
- Bessie talked about how she’s so amazed at the sets and that the sets for the Featherington and Bridgerton houses are next to each other and when she goes to the Bridgerton one, it like makes her feel uncomfortable because it’s like not her house
- Bessie would love to do something modern because she’s done a number of period dramas. Bessie loves the bright colours of the dresses
- Nicola said that the Featherington sisters dress like highlighters
- Nicola wearing wigs, like getting into cars, you gotta like lean your head, tip in, and then be like “whoop that’s not gonna fit”
- Golda needed folks to help move her and her wig about because they were so big bulky and heavy
- Newton the dog was a diva and got along best with Simone. Luke said he was indifferent to him
- In the first season, they sent an intimacy coach to Luke Newton and he and Nicola were like “When is Colin have intimate scenes?” and were all confused. Turns out they sent the intimacy coach to the wrong Luke. Nicola and Luke said this happens quite often lol
- Luke talking about how he likes to be fully two feet in his world, not about thinking about his character and the writing of his character but like being his character
- Nicola switching between accents effortless and going from posh London to very working class Irish
- When Golda was helping Luke unroll the poster and the rubber band, she was rolling it down like a condom lol
- According to Martins, Will Mondrich is an anagram of Bill Richmond, a former slave in America turned British boxer that became famous for his boxing prowess
- They got sent a request for an audition tape. Luke’s was him and Eloise on the swing smoking - loved that it was so sibling-like. Like, it wasn’t 19th century siblings but could be siblings today and loved their closeness.
- Adjoa, Lady Danbury’s walking stick has the national coat of arms with an elephant-like image from Ghana, where her father is from at the top and the props department made it specially for her
- Golda and the giant wigs - how the film department built her a neck rest so she could take the stress off her neck and back but that they didn’t have to do that. Golda said it was an example of how amazing the cast and crew is because they didn’t have to do it, they just saw she was uncomfy and so they built it for her!
- They had them do etiquette lessons, like how to sit and stuff then asked them to forget. They wanted the women to lounge on furniture but there’s no lounging in corsets, according to Ruth
- Golda has to wear two “fucking corsets”
- Luke outed Ruth that she swears in front of the children. She says it’s because going back to that language is difficult and it can be hard to get it so she ends of swearing on like mess ups
- Nicola said she loves how Penelope loves with her whole heart
- Luke had to do art lessons to prepare
- They agreed it’s a show about a single woman raising 8 kids in a strict society navigating this world of gossip and where women have little autonomy
- Ruth was saying that Violet is a strong, feminist character of sorts because she’s trying to marry off her 8 kids for LOVE and nothing else because she knows that the best life women will have in this world is if they marry for love because there’s little else they have access to
- Martins had done previous boxing for a play / stage show
- They filmed really out of order so when Martins first began shooting, he looks less bulked out but as they continued shooting he got bigger and bigger and you can see it in the episodes where he’s like bigger and then he’s trim again so they’re like you gotta stop. So, his bulk fluctuates because they filmed things so out of order lol
- Martins loves that his character loves his family and is not that macho man that embraces the masculine stereotype but that he’s not limited in his role and they haven’t limited his character because he’s Black
- They love Shondaland because this world exists as a more, almost accurate portrayal of history. Adjoa was saying that like 20% of Londoners were Black. Queen Charlotte had African ancestry as did King George so folks were worried that when they got married it would like show up more in the bloodline / colouring of their kids. Luke also added that the show isn’t like continuing that idea of how people in history were stuffy. No, that we’re humans and they were doing what we’re doing - sex. Like it wasn’t a sterile society where these things didn’t go on, they did.

@isdathriantionnsgnadh - I had a thought!
Marina and George AU
So, we have these two growing up with each other, like in your AU, but if we keep it in Bridgerton.
Bit of disapproval on her father's part - so he sends her to his cousin, Lord Featherington, so she marries a better man, not a soldier - even if he is a member of the aristocracy.
George is also made to look for a wife during the season. We get a few near misses of their meeting until they see each other.
But Lady Featherington has been charged with keeping them apart!

kate gets cancelled on by her date for an important dinner or ball in college or something and she doesn't want to go anymore, and edwina/the bridgertons try to convince her and anthony saves the day?
I tweaked this a little bit and set it in the high school au as seen in "winter formal," "the guillotine," and "free fall". I believe it will be the conclusion to this little quartet. Enjoy!
no escaping your love #34: all's well that ends well (to end up with you) (Read 1-33 here.)
#14. "Can I have this dance?"
Kate knew asking Anthony to homecoming was a stupid idea. Why would he want to drive across state lines to take her to a high school dance and then feel obligated to do stuff around the house for his mother merely one month into being a college student?
But he’d accepted her invitation enthusiastically. He even asked her what color her dress was and sent her pictures of the ties he had at school to ask if she thought they were close enough, or if he should wait until he got home to look for a better one? It was all quite sweet, actually. It was hard to feel guilty when Anthony was eagerly asking for everything she knew about Edwina’s date and how her classes were going and all the other high school mundanities that she was sure he’d outgrown, but still talked about because it mattered to her.
A week ago, he’d learned that there was a golf tournament the day of the dance, but he was resolved to be home in time to take her. She should’ve seen it as the sign from the universe that it was that this was a stupid plan and she should’ve just asked Benedict instead.
But it was too late for that, now. Benedict was going with Genevieve Delacroix, whom Kate tried to like despite the fact that she was best friends with Siena fucking Rosso. Edwina had been a target yet again, but this year little Matthew Bagwell, who was in her sister’s history class, had gotten there first. Edwina had blushed the entire way home that day, holding the flowers he’d gifted her reverently in her hands. Even Colin had asked Marina Thompson, who was on the outs with George Crane at the moment, according to the Lady Whistledown account, and had accepted his invitation with relish.
And, because the universe hated her, Kate had already been having a rotten day before Anthony first texted to say he was running behind. An early morning surprise thunderstorm would do that. It was the last thing she’d been picturing dealing with today, but while he had mere rain in Connecticut delaying game play for an hour, she sat paralyzed on her bed as thunder boomed. It was over in thirty minutes, but it made her exhausted for the rest of the day, as having a panic attack tends to do to a person.
Then he hit traffic on the way back from the tournament. He called her, then, and told her to go ahead and go to dinner without him and he would catch up. She tried not to let him hear the disappointment in her voice; if he was already behind on the two hour trip from Connecticut back to campus, that would put him another hour behind to his house, and he’d still have to eat and get ready…
So she sat awkwardly with Benedict and Genevieve and their friends Henry Granville and Lucy Teles and pretended that the empty chair across from her didn’t exist, or wishing that she’d gone out with Edwina and Matthew instead, or that she and Anthony had just done the sensible thing and broken up before he went to college.
Almost an hour and a half later found her, alone, at a table on the side of the Mayfair cafeteria, phone in hand but no text or phone call to be heard. Edwina’s face had fallen when she’d spotted Kate without Anthony and offered to keep her company, but Kate pushed her sister away and onto the dance floor, where she was now, slow dancing with her arms around Matthew and looking so adorable and grown up that it was almost easy not to be jealous.
Almost.
The opening chord of Taylor Swift’s “Lover” played through the sound system and Kate’s stomach tightened. This had played at last year’s winter formal the first time she and Anthony had danced together. She could still remember how it had felt to be held in his arms, how he’d laughed when she’d accidentally trod on his toes, how his eyes stared at her with such intensity that she hadn’t quite known whether to look at him or to look away.
Someone cleared their throat behind her and she winced, thoroughly prepared to tell Nigel Berbrooke to shove it, and spun around. Her jaw dropped open at Anthony, in the navy suit she loved with a tie the same blush pink as her dress.
“Can I have this dance?”
She was so stunned that she didn’t move for a minute. When she did, it was to launch herself into his arms, holding him tightly against her. It had only been a month, barely, and she missed him like crazy, and she’d spent the last four hours thinking that he didn’t care and that he wasn’t going to be there.
“I’m so glad you’re here,” she said. Before she could pull herself all the way, he kissed her soundly, not caring about the whispers from other students or the disapproving looks from their teachers.
“I wasn’t going to miss it.” And with a tug, he lead her out to the dance floor, swaying back and forth. “I’m so sorry I’m late, though.”
“It’s al—”
“Kate, it’s not alright. I shouldn’t have made you wait, or question, or anything.” He pulled her a little closer, their bodies almost flush against each other. “I hope you know just how much I adore you. How hard it is being away from you. And I don’t care whether it’s a high school dance or a college formal across the country, but I will always be there. Alright?”
She swallowed.
“Benedict told you about CalArts?”
Their art teacher had been trying to push Kate to go to art school, and she’d been having an existential crisis over it. Did she want to go to art school? Yes, it sounded wonderful. Did she want to go that far from her family, from Anthony? Less enthusiastically.
“Why didn’t you?” he replied. She shrugged.
“I thought you’d want me to go to Brown.”
“I want you to go wherever you’re going to be happy.” She bit her lip between her teeth.
“But what if I’m not?”
“Will you know if you don’t at least try?”
He had her there.
“Aren’t you the one always telling me life is short and we should do what we love?” he added. “I want you to do what you love. Whether it’s in California, or Providence, or Chennai, or anywhere in between. I will go wherever you are.” He nodded towards the DJ, “That’s why this is our song, isn’t it?”
He spun her around under his arm, you’re my, my, my, my lover crescendoing around them, and Kate decided right then and there that she and Anthony would be just fine.
Always and forever.

Temporary Bridgerton Masterlist
I’ll make a proper one once I have the energy (and content — downloading the shows/movies for all of the fcs has been a long process lmao) but this is my temporary list of Bridgerton OCs
Name: Augusta Beauchamp
Story: The Hope Of It All
Face claim: Tuppence Middleton
Love Interest: Benedict Bridgerton
Summary: As you well know, my dear reader, there is no place for baseborn children in our society. However, for Lord Beauchamp, widowed with no trueborn children, his baseborn daughter is the only hope for a respectable match for his family. With Miss Beauchamp having been kept out of society for her entire life, this author simply must ask: why was Benedict Bridgerton so very shocked by her presence at the Danbury Ball?
Name: Princess Catrina of Prussia
Story: Gold Rush
Face claim: Jenna Louise Coleman
Love Interest: Anthony Bridgerton
Summary: Dear reader, it appears that this season shall be even more enthralling than anyone could have anticipated. For not only is Prince Friedrich of Prussia in search of a wife, but he is also in search of a match for his younger sister, the charming Princess Catrina. While it is rumoured that the princess is quite content to allow her brother to select her future husband, this author is not blind to the frequent glances that she directs towards a certain Viscount. It seems that Prince Friedrich is not the only Prussian who has been enchanted by a Bridgerton.
Name: Cornelia Fitzwilliam
Story: Invisible String
Face claim: Clémence Poesy
Love Interest: Simon Bassett
Summary: Everyone, dear reader, including this author, had anticipated that Miss Cornelia Fitzwilliam would be the incomparable of the season. However with the very recent death of her mother, many began to believe otherwise. With her father long since deceased and her brother the new Lord Fitzwilliam, it was left to Miss Cornelia herself to prepare herself for her debut. Many were skeptical regarding her odds, particularly after Miss Daphne Bridgerton earned the Queen’s favour, but I kept my faith. I assure you, dear reader, that should you see the way that the Duke of Hastings looks at her, you will undoubtedly share my certainties regarding Miss Fitzwilliam’s prospects this season.
Name: Célestine Archambault
Story: Perfect Places
Face claim: Anya Taylor-Joy
Love Interest: Colin Bridgerton
Summary: It seems, dear reader, that Colin Bridgerton has returned to the ton; and he does not come alone. No, he is not engaged, he has evidently learned his lesson since Miss Marina Thompson. However, only days after Lord Bridgerton’s return came a new face, a young lady by the name of Célestine Archambault. This name may not sound familiar, but this author has done her research. Célestine Archambault is the daughter of a French lord and an English lady, with whom Lord Bridgerton became quite enamoured when his travels brought him to Paris. It seems that many had expected a proposal before his departure, however our young lord was unwilling to make such a commitment without consulting his eldest brother. And so, dear reader, the Archambault family shall be joining us here in the ton, residing in Lady Archambault’s family home. We can only hope that Lord Bridgerton has not made yet another grievous error in his choice for a future Lady Bridgerton.
Name: Dorothea Bridgerton
Story: Selling Dreams
Face claim: Lily James
Love Interest: Prince Friedrich
Summary: From the moment Queen Charlotte declared Miss Daphne Bridgerton to be flawless, it became quite clear which of the Bridgerton sisters would be the incomperable of this year’s season. However, Miss Dorothea Bridgerton seems not to bear any ill will to her sister, appearing to be perfectly content to remain in the shadows. While Lord Anthony Bridgerton and Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton chaperone Miss Daphne through the balls, Miss Dorothea is chaperoned only by Lord Benedict. Evidently, this author is not the only one who knows which sister is most suited to attracting a significant engagement.
Though I must admit, dear reader, that prior to his courtship with Miss Daphne, I had thought the Duke quite enamoured with the elder Miss Bridgerton. However, after spending the early hours of the Vauxhall soirée talking, and even dancing, with Miss Dorothea, only to disappear quite suddenly and spend the rest of the evening arm in arm with Miss Daphne.
Miss Daphne Bridgerton may be a diamond of the first order, the Duke’s loss appears to be another’s gain, as a certain Prussian Prince now seems to have set his eye on our very own diamond in the rough..
Name: Eliza “Betsey” Huntington
Story: Long Way Home
Face claim: Bella Heathcote
Love Interest: Colin Bridgerton
Summary: Many a reader will certainly remember Miss Eliza Huntington, the only daughter of the deceased Lord Horace Huntington, although it has been ten years since her departure from the ton. Prior to her departure, the Huntington and Bridgerton families had been the closest of friends, and a betrothal between Eliza Huntington and Colin Bridgerton had seemed inevitable. However, with the untimely deaths of Lords Huntington and Bridgerton, mere months apart, the Lady Huntington moved herself and her children back to her family home in Brighton, and the chance for an engagement was lost to time.
Now, a full decade since her departure, Miss Eliza Huntington has returned to the ton to make her debut. And should the way Colin Bridgerton looks at her be any indication, it seems that an engagement may not be quite as impossible as we had all believed.
Name: Georgina Pemberton
Story: Two For The Show
Face claim: Ellie Bamber
Love Interest: Benedict Bridgerton
Summary: Dear reader, a scandal has come to the ton. A scandal by the name of Georgina Pemberton. Last season, Miss Pemberton had accompanied her elder sister to London for the season, under the guise of learning what to expect for her own debut. However, despite having not yet debuted, it was the younger Miss Pemberton who received a proposal before the end of the season; a proposal which she very publicly rejected, to all of our shock. This year, as she prepares to make her proper debut with a scandal still attached to her name, the Lady Pemberton has sent her daughter to stay with her dearest friend, our very own Dowager Viscountess.
Unfortunately for Miss Pemberton, even the support of the Bridgerton family may not be enough to protect her from the whispers that follow behind her, with not a single gentleman approaching her at the first ball of the season. This author, however, found that Miss Pemberton appeared quite unconcerned with her lack of prospects at the Danbury Ball, as she spent the evening with a smile on her face and a certain Lord Benedict Bridgerton at her side
Name: Harriet Warwick
Story: Champagne Problems
Face claim: Hailee Steinfeld
Love Interest: Anthony Bridgerton
Summary: Why is the Duke of Hastings so opposed to marriage, you may ask. Well, dear reader, I know the answer, and she has just arrived to London for the season. Harriet Warwick became acquainted with both the Duke and Viscount Bridgerton in Oxford, where her father had tutored the pair — regarding both the classics and their futures in society. The Duke and Miss Warwick courted for quite some time, and it came as no surprise when he finally proposed, shortly before he was due to leave Oxford. However, no one was more shocked than the Duke himself when Miss Warwick refused, offering no reasons or closure, and leaving the Duke forever sworn off of marriage.
This author may have been prepared to let bygones be bygones and let secrets rest, had Harriet Warwick not appeared at the Vauxhall soirée, only to ignore the shocked Duke in order to greet the Viscount. Some may prefer to let sleeping dogs lie, but I am of the belief that sleeping dogs make for the best morning news.

10 Reasons to Visit Historic Granville for a Day
A decade ago, the Mayberry-themed performance in Granville grew into one year-round community celebration of the iconic Andy Griffith Show. Many similarities exist between Mount Airy, North Carolina, and the riverside hamlet in Middle Tennessee.
1. T. B. Sutton General Store
This two-story 1865 relic (on the National Register) offers more than four businesses and Granville's major restaurant. On Saturday nights, Sutton Ole Time Music Hour, a bluegrass dinner show a la Grand Ole Opry, with live advertising, takes place.
2. Museum on Granville Island
An intelligent World War II veteran who returned annually for 30 years to chronicle the town's growth, Vincent DeNardo, was the first museum to open in Granville. In halls dedicated to local schools, the military, and genealogy, visitors may learn about the town's early days, as well as the individuals and businesses that shaped it.
3. Wildwood Resort & Marina
The $2.5 million addition and the new lodge at Wildwood Resort and the Marina on Cumberland River & the Cordell Hull Lake have made visits more enjoyable. Enjoy the beautiful Brazilian hardwood docks, kayak, pontoon, canoe, and paddle board rentals, or sit on one of the covered front porches in an Adirondack chair. Granville has three B&B’s.
4. I Love Lucy Museum in Mayberry
The Mayberry – I Love Lucy Museum features items from two of America's most beloved TV shows. Examine Lucy's house, including her old kitchenware, before exploring Andy's neighborhood. Meet Aunt Bee, Opie, and other characters from both shows and enjoy their antics.
5. Pioneer Village & Sutton Homeplace
The original owner's 19th-century home was refurbished with antique furnishings, making it Granville's second-oldest home. It's not your typical old home, with quarterly themed exhibition. This spring, celebrate women's achievements around the country. The Pioneer Village behind the home features a new cottage garden, a barn and Wellhouse of Grand Ole Opry singer Jesse Donald "Uncle Jimmy" Thompson, and enterprises specializing in baskets, Blacksmithing, and brooms.
6. Tour of Granville
Be self-guided or take the guide tour of this town for only $5, beginning with the Sutton Homeplace & the Pioneer Village. Walk around six museums to see antique vehicles, ice cream, and other exhibits. Tours are provided all year, Wednesday through Saturday; arrive early and prepare to spend around three hours. Fortunately for visitors, Cordell Hull Lake and the Cumberland River are both within reasonable walking distance of each other in this two-street hamlet.
7. Farm to Table Museum
The Farm to Table Museum traces the journey from farm to plate, as well as how animals were once used for transportation. Among the displays are a reconstructed 1942 milk truck and a history of dairy farms in Middle Tennessee. Others are dedicated to tobacco, corn, and poultry. A mule display features one of Granville's earliest horse-drawn hearses.
8. Whistle Stop Saloon's New Decanter Collection
The Whistle Stop Saloon will debut 2,600 decanters of Jim Beam whiskey styled like automobiles, celebrities, presidents, and even Santa Claus. When Granville became a major riverboat port in the 1800s, he built the bar. This replica includes an assortment of whiskey jugs from around the state.
9. Festivals aplenty
Seven annual festivals celebrate anything from Mayberry to moonshine. At the Genealogy Festival on April 10, families may learn about notable women from local, state, and national authorities to The Andy Griffith Show's female ensemble. A Mayberry cruise-in brings together vintage car aficionados and TV personalities on the same day. The Cornbread & Moonshine Festival offers a cornbread-making contest, sampling, and distillery tastings. The season ends with the annual Granville Heritage Day, featuring bluegrass, crafts, and a parade.
10. Dinner Theater in the Open Air
The Darlings, the mountain musicians from The Andy Griffith Show, will perform in Pioneer Village's renowned outdoor dinner theater. Throughout the year, there are more performances.
