Rating the Tekken 8 cast that's been revealed so far.

Not how they fare on a competitive scale, just them as characters, how they look, how they play, what they are like personality-wise, for fun.

Nina Williams - 10 / 10 - Nina is my all time favourite fighting game character and second favourite video game character overall after Lara Croft. While I like the upper part of her new costume, the lower half looks weird. The fringes on her dress look extremely tacky and the fact that she has ankle bracelets on BOTH legs does too. I'm also a bit worried about the fact that she's wearing a dress and did her hair short like... These are Anna's trademarks. This better not mean that she's out of the game! Her tweaked gameplay is tons of fun and her Lara Croft dual pistols are a very welcome addition too!

Jun Kazama - 9.4 / 10 - The return or a legend! Very happy to have her back after all this time. I'm still very mad they made her look younger than her fucking son, but I'm also still thinking she's not actually alive and that's she's a spirit or something. We'll see. Otherwise the costume looks nice, but is overall inferior to both her Tekken 2 and Tekken Tag 2 looks. Her gameplay is cool as fuck though.

Ling Xiaoyu - 9.3 / 10 - Xiao got a nice redesign overall. Still fits her character and I think she even looks and sounds a bit more confident and less childish now which is definitely a big improvement. Her hits during gameplay even feel more powerful too. She's all grown up!

Jin Kazama - 9.3 / 10 - Jin looks a lot less emo this time around and much more determined. His overall gameplay still feels familiar and the addition of his devil moves finally being part of his core gameplay is a nice touch.

Lili - 8.8 / 10 - Namco has been STRUGGLING with Lili's face but, most of all, her fucking her for a while now but I think this is the closest they ever got to making it look normal lmao. Lili's rich whiny bitch personality has been a hit for me since day one and I feel like her french voice actress is getting more and more comfortable with the role as I feel like this is her best work as Lili so far. Her gymnastics and dancing also fit the new Tekken 8 gameplay perfectly.

Hwoarang - 8.7 / 10 - Hwoarang's new look ages him up a lot I feel like which is weird because he's supposed to be in his 20s still. Still a big improvement over previous looks I might say. So far nothing came close to his Tekken 3 taekwondo gi for me but this is a close second. I'm glad they dropped the one eye blind thing but at the same time what the fuck is up with continuity at this point. Did he get his ass blown up in Tekken 7 or not?? His moves feel like he has reached and even surpassed his master's level so this is another case of seeing characters grow up through gameplay itself.

Asuka Kazama - 8.7 / 10 - I was a big fan of Asuka back in her Tekken 5 days but her gradual "cuteification" when she clearly had a more "streetwise, punk kid" vibe in Tekken 5 has annoyed me and it still continues in this game. Her voice actress is even playing her lines cuter this time. Her one-sided rivalry with Lili has also damaged her characterization as she is literally relegated to Lili's play toy and her own goals have been set aside long ago. Their rivalry only works on Lili's favour as a character and Namco constantly pushing the teenage girl rivalry as the main female rivalry when Nina and Anna are literally right. there. has gone stale since Tekken Tag 2. It feels like I trashed on her a lot but I do still like Asuka, I'm just not happy with the design and story choices being made since after her debut and at this point I like what Asuka used to be before Lili and not what she's ended up being nowadays.

King - 8.6 / 10 - I haven't played King in ages but King is King you know? He's a staple and I'm always just happy to have him around even if I never pick him up at all lol.

Lars Alexandersson - 7.4 / 10 - Lars has always just been kind of... There for me, but not in the sense that King is there. King is King but Lars is, unfortunately, just Lars... At least he looks kinda hotter this time.

Claudio Serafino - 6.0 / 10 - When I first saw Claudio in Tekken 7, while it was still in its arcade phase, I felt like I was gonna like him but he eventually ended up doing absolutely nothing for me? He's extremely middle of the road for me, I neither like nor hate him, he's, like Lars, just there.

Leroy Smith - 5.0 / 10 - I kinda like his concept but he's ultimately very meh. I also don't see how or why he's still around with Heihachi dead. Admittedly, I haven't checked his profile because I don't really care for him, but if they found a new motive to keep him and his annoying drooling dog around but couldn't be bothered to do the same for Christie in Tekken 7 then I have honestly nothing more to say.

Kazuya Mishima - 4.9 / 10 - If Jin doesn't kill him in this chapter I'll be very disappointed.

Marshall Law - 3.9 / 10 - I used to play a little bit with him back in 5 but I haven't touched him in a while and it looks like it will stay that way... His redesign is absolutely disgusting. Sorry to all my roidheads out there but he looks ridiculous!

Paul Phoenix - 2.0 / 10 - Paul was supposed to be Kazuya's rival, who I dislike as well, but he used to be the series mascot so Paul being essentially the Ken to Kazuya's Ryu was, in theory, a good spot to hold. But Paul has over the years regressed to nothing more than a joke character, which is extremely weird because he's one of the very few characters who has been in every game and this is how he looks now... Wow...

Bryan Fury - 2.0 / 10 - Bryan is annoying. Yes he's been a mainstay since his debut but ehh. His maniac laugh was kinda iconic but the rerecording they've been using since Tekken 6 was underwhelming and now it has become even more irrelevant I think. Ultimately I'd rather Bruce was the resident kickboxer. I don't care for him much either but he looks cooler.

Jack-8 - 1.9 / 10 - With all the money Jane makes from G-Corporation she still can't buy a fashion sense because Jack looks more ridiculous each generation.

so i also ended up downloading wuwa to test it out despite being fairly confident in the assessment that it Will not be a long term thing for me (and yeah stand behind that one after day 1 and some today) and like

firstly yes the state of the game is in shambles lmao like it really wasnt finished in time for release in terms of performance and polish At All. on my side luckily the overall experience has been more or less okay on medium graphics with some glitches and a total of two crashes but its still like. this isnt an optimized game at all. ppl rly have been taking genshin being incredibly cautious with new systems and additions (so that the game actually Functions) for granted i suppose 💀 and or consistently taken the most uncharitable angle towards it . like yes we shouldve had xyz since forever but i 100% believe theres actual spaghetti code behind things taking long and that hoyo genuinely wants to be very careful w it for good reason. but yeah artifact presets where still

secondly as much as the world is like, pretty and vast with many sceneries that make for a beautiful vignette to Look at and all kinds of trinkets to run towards and engage w for that quick dopamine release, i think the fact that the story and lore of the world is just so fucking inconsequential and terribly communicated makes it just. Incredibly hard to Feel anything for it. its like a cake with stunning decorations except u take a bite and realize its all just fondant and no actual flavor. its just there. i dont have any thoughts nor feelings for it bc the worldbuilding is such a failure that i care neither for this place nor the characters whose stories are supposed to be selling me on the entire game. and that really sucks bc this place really Does look stunning in places and i Wish they would give me something to care about but its just the backdrop for the (admittedly fun) pokemon echo farm and ur exploration progress and the combat system

character-wise i also just dont mesh with vast majority of them much. they dont stand out enough from one another and no one except for like scar has actually made me very intrigued about anything at all regarding the world. designs vary from ugh to fine with some that i do like but they still arent like . the kind of Instant recognizable design that just Hits. they look fine but they lack the (jenshin) impact that makes you want to forfeit ur mortal possessions to them

now there is One (1) exception to this to be fair and thats sanhua but thats Literally just bc she is so fucking gender envy to me design wise. like its almost perfect just like that. literally if only her top wasnt open in the back . Id wear that shit SO hard for My scifi fantasy waves that wuther self insert oh my god. she looks like a middle school OC id make JSJSKSKDKUSKDK i love herrr literally the only reason i continue playing tbh . the combat i think is where wuwa stands out and it definitely lets u engage more with the enemies. like ultimate evasion and counters Feel satisfying and building up ur characters unique mechanic like sanhuas ice constructs for her powered up charge atk Feels satisfying i def think theres a lot of potential there but in terms of A Future Meta in a gacha that wants money idk where things would ultimarely go in the future. but ya that stuff is solid.

enemy designs are also cool but suffer from that same lack of context to make me intrigued w the world theyre a part of. like cool eldritch creature ig but it doesnt give heebie jeebies the same way as seeing like. the husks in the chasm for the first time. where u instantly go oh fuck How. Why. Who were they. bc u know there Will be a relevant answer . etc . which is a shame. make me fear for my life smh

Do you think levihan is canon?

I had a conversation with my sister a few days back (who hates Levihan if it isn’t obvious), and she used to be an avid Klaroline shipper back in the day (The Vampire Diaries), and she explained that a the fandom actually don’t see Klaroline as a canon couple even if they were teased throughout the show (fucked, kissed and everything in between) since it isn’t end game. 

So to lay out my terms here and just be incredibly clear about it. I consider Levihan canon, but I do not consider them end game because they obviously aren’t, 132 happened and Hange didn’t come back.. 

So what do i mean by canon? 

There are lots of nuances here to consider when we call them canon. 

For one, fandoms wait for the couple to be ‘official’ kiss and all. Other fandoms wait for the end before they say it, because no matter how many times two characters fuck, kiss and declare their undying love, if they don’t commit, if they don’t make it to the end, then it’s not canon. 

When I say Levihan is canon, I clearly mean,  even if they didn’t end up together, they probably could have still been in a relationship, they probably could have still been in love. They probably actually held a stronger and much more nuanced bond than whatever main couple we watch in some sappy romantic drama. 

And maybe they actually did fall in love behind closed doors? Maybe they meta-ed their own relationship together and maybe they’ve discussed it and maybe they were aware. ( have a meta about it here)

But here’s the thing, we’ll never know, because in Season 4, after A LOT of the development of their relationship could have been implied, Levi and Hange were separated from each other so we actually didn’t get a lot of scenes of them closely together until 115, 126 etc.

Tbh, I think that’s the reason Levihan has been incredibly uneventful relationship wise actually made it so much for me that I thought they were pretty much canon. I still have issues with how Eremika was pulled off even if they were blatantly canon and had more than enough blatant crumbs. 

Because sure Eren and Mikasa did love each other but I guess their relationship was just so problematic since the start that even I was like ‘do you guys really love each other?’ half the time and I was constantly thinking about Mikasa’s mental health there like yo, why you so obsessed with him. There’s literally a Jean there who would probably treat you 124543x better,  

But for Levi and Hange we had parallels with Eremika. And we had crumbs

With putting his crumbs for Levihan, from the airplane, unrequited titan love, let’s live together, Hange’s longing face and the Levi’s dedicate your heart and the fact that HANGE NEVER LEFT HIS SIDE UNTIL THEY DIED, come on, I don’t know what people aren’t seeing. 

But the point is, (Okay understandable since Levi and Hange are older), Personally I just believe Levi and Hange approached their relationship more like mature adults than hormonal teenagers. Like so sorry, they decided to approach their relationship like adults instead of some teenager who bird poops on any guy who tries to cheat on Mikasa. 

Here’s the thing, Hange probably never would have complained like Eren. I honestly believe it was totally in character for her to just look down on him longingly from the paths. And I personally believed Levi had approached their relationship with a kind of acceptance like ‘ ay yo, we’re too busy for this but maybe after the war?’ that’s why even towards the end, the only way he lets himself be reminded of her was through watching the airplane and thinking of her. *fudge I’m tearing up*

Aneas From Universe 5, my beloved little plant boy.....

1. Aneas in his original concept was much different than he ended up. He was originally going to be a female OC for self-indulgent shipping purposes, and had a much different personality; somebody who was a bit hyper and loved to cook, but in Paula Dean fashion, put way too much butter in everything lmao. The only thing that stayed in tact really was the overall design and the fact that he's a hopeless romantic (and if anything that part got turned up to 11 lmao). Somehow, over the course of the development process, he ended up becoming Bragi and Tomor's mutual childhood friend instead, and also a little nonbinary dude, even if he's since settled on using he/him pronouns.

2. Aneas was named after Aeneas, a Trojan hero in Greek mythology. The reason his name is spelled differently is actually because I accidentally typoed it the first time and just never ended up fixing it because I liked the way it looked lmao. I did however, pic this name for some vague thematic reasons. The Trojan Aeneas is the son of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, which I felt really matched my Aneas' hopelessly romantic nature. He was also named that to reflect the fact that he's far more noble than his sad, anxious disposition (as well as the testimony of a certain very salty green boy at the time) might make you believe.

3. When I created him, he was never really meant to be super important to then-current plot events, but when my friend's OC got shipped to his little planet for parole, Aneas ended up becoming super important and not only married this literal war criminal, he managed to jumpstart like 3 different redemption arcs just by virtue of existing as a nice soft boy. Something something Aneas wins by doing nothing. Dynamic wise, he and his wife are very much the Connecticut Clark and Malfina of Universe 5 lmao. That said, he's usually not even a little confrontational, but if you even look at his wife funny (even if it's an understandable reaction to like, the war crimes) he's going to very strongly consider violence--

4. He loves plants. He has so many fucking plants. He's pretty much been working on filling his whole little planet to the brim with plants. Gardening was something he took up because he had way too much free time on his hands and was slowly kind of going insane from being alone, but through trial and error, he found he was actually pretty good at it, and it's one of the few things he's actually confident in his ability to do. He's got names, personalities, and backstories for all his plants, and if you ask him about even one of them, you're going to learn their entire lineage, their best friends, and everything. They also tend to serve as his silent therapists as he talks to them a lot about his problems (of which he has many). His favorite is a potted plant named Maurice, but his wife grew one of her own using one of Maurice's seeds that he helped name Eugene, and that is their son. Eugene is literally also just a potted plant and not even a little sentient, but that is still his child lmao.

5. He is hilariously shorter than like, almost everyone he knows. Despite being like twice the equivalent age, he's the height of the average 7 year old. When he was younger, he was actually the tallest in his friend group, but after a certain point pretty early on, he just... stopped growing while everyone else kept getting taller. The little house he lives in is very much designed to be Aneas sized rather than like, average person sized, and I don't know how his very tall wife copes lmao. He has a bit of a complex about it because he feels like it makes people take him less seriously or worse, mistake him for a child (like guys please don't pick him up I know he is the perfect size for picking up but please it makes him sad and grumpy) and wants nothing more than to be taller. However, it has been decided that it's illegal for him to be taller, let alone as tall as he'd like to be lmao.
