How can you support Palestine? It’s constantly ranked as one of the worst countries for lgbt rights/safety and people who are found out face death in many instances. A man was decapitated in the street for being found gay and gay sexual relations are illegal with a penalty of jail time… Who do you think you are crusading for? The reality is if you went there with a rainbow flag walking down the street you would not be ok. Queer people flee to Israel for safety because society there as in many Islamic regions is notoriously anti-lgbt. I support Palestine because every person has a right to live. Because what is happening is a genocide. It's a fact. You can argue about it to the kingdom come, but it's done by the book genocide and, since it's a fact, opinions can't change it.  

With this being said, I'd like to address two specific points you made.

You can't shame me - or anyone who is queer and supports Palestine - by talking about hate crimes against queer people or describing them. Because before that you should look at your own country and check when was the last time a hate crime happened. I bet it'll be recent. Hate crimes and homophobia are not exclusive to arabic/muslim countries. This point of view is narrow minded at best and racist at worst - either by the lack of education or lack of interest in the world.

I really am the wrong person to come to with this. I live in Russia. It's illegal to wear rainbow flags here and you will go to jail for it. Chechnya has torture camps for gay men. There's police raids in gay bars in Moscow happening regularly. Trans people are in danger of being forced to detransition. I live in the scenario above, you don't need to scare me with it out of supporting Palestine.

But my point is - I support Palestine as a queer even more as just a human, because I know what it means to live like this. Just because Palestinian queers might not be all loud and proud doesn't mean they don't exist; just because being gay is condemned and puts one's life at risk doesn't mean queers just suddenly stop existing.

And I also know - just as I have support here (my closest friends are straight women with traditional beliefs and they are very comfortable with me being gay, most people I know are not violently homophobic) Palestinian queers have their support, their communities and their people who love them and care for them. And they need our support as well. We don't get to turn our back on our fellow queers just because they happen to live in unsafe places. (and again, this kind of belief stinks of racism or of the need to broaden your worldview horizons. Believe me, the majority of queers are not white and don't live in lgbt-friendly countries)

"Israel bought their land and have every right to defend themselves contrary to what the people wanting to wipe out their entire country believe." My point in this is also really affected by me being Russian. (I'm sorry if some of you are uncomfortable with it, I can't really change it.)

You see, these reasons are very similar to what I've heard when Putin tried to justify the attack on Ukraine.

"Israel bought their land" is just as disgusting to me as "Ukraine didn't exist until 1991". "Israel has every right to defend themselves" is Putin's "We're defending ourselves against the collective West". Which is fucking nonsense.

And this is done by the book propaganda - and I'm not saying this because propaganda is a big word people like to throw around. I know this because I studied propaganda for my bachelor degree as a part of "changing public's opinion" course - me and my classmates were trained in this. They take some historical facts you can't deny or make an enemy out of someone (them vs us) and manipulate it to fit their rhetoric. Once you know how to recognise it you'll never not recognise it again.

Israel is not defending itself by targeting civilians and sniping children - they killed more children in these months than Russia in two years which is horrifying to me - they confirmed multiple times they want to erase Palestine from the face of the Earth. These words don't mean self-defence. It's a colonial power that really wants to show how powerful they are and how unstoppable they are. And again, I know this from the side of the colonial power. For me, people who side with Israel are the same people who side with Russia - and it makes me sick. 

Also please don’t assume that people who support Palestine want to destroy Israel, this is again, very narrow minded. Saving people from genocide by committing another genocide? This is plainly stupid. The world is not black and white, it's more complicated than just taking sides. I'll give an example: I'm queer and I know I'll be in danger if I ever come to Dagestan (close to Chechnya) - but dagestan people fund rise to send humanitarian aid to Palestine and I donate to them, because people are dying and I don't really care if people who'll help them are homophobic to me. Because it's not about me.

But there are moments in history when you need to take a stand, and I will not stand with Israel. (or Russia for that matter)

“Can I just ask, and I know that this isn’t like, super popular for a question, but like… why didn’t you guys bring back Kip?” 

Ruben was nervous that he just offended Riz with the question, seeing as the goblin looked up at him with a piercing glance, but then he remembered that’s just how Riz looks at everyone. Riz sighed and put his hands together, resting his chin on them as he leaned forward onto his desk. “Do you remember Penelope Everpetal or Dayne Blade?” 

“Uh, vaguely? They were seniors when we were freshmen, right?”

“Yep. And they fought us, and they died, and they didn’t get brought back.” 

“Right…”

“Ragh also fought us, and also died, and we did bring him back.”

“OK… so um, what was the difference there?”

“Not much of one.” Riz said flatly. 

Ruben blinked. “Huh?”

“There really wasn’t much of one. We brought Ragh back because we needed info from him. That’s it.” The detective’s tone was so monotone that his words sent a chill up Ruben’s spine. 

“Oh.” 

“But then we let him live because we found out he didn’t really know anything. He was just being used.” 

Ruben nodded, still a little unsure about what was translating directly to his original question. 

“We brought you guys back because it looked like you were just getting used, too. And I’ll be honest in saying I don’t think all of us agreed that you all needed to come back. I think it’s good that you did, but still.”

Ruben licked his lips. “But not all of us.” 

Riz nodded slightly. “Not all of you. You know what the difference between you and Kipperlily is? It’s about as similar to Ragh and Dayne or Aelwyn and Penelope. The difference is: choice. Ragh’s choice was to follow the orders of one of the few good men in his life or get his life ruined, and not know that any of it was bad. Dayne’s choice was to kill innocent people or not and he followed every direction to a T and knew what it all entailed. Aelwyn’s choice was to follow the orders of an evil familiar of a dead god or die. Penelope’s choice was to sacrifice people she loved for just pure power and a title, and that’s it. You chose whether or not to be angry and live or die and be tortured in an afterlife for possibly an eternity. Kipperlily’s choice was whether or not to sacrifice her friends and possibly the whole world so she could finally feel special. That’s the difference, Ruben. That’s why we didn’t resurrect Kipperlily. Some people are misguided into doing wrong, some people are threatened into doing wrong. They deserve a second chance. Some people choose to do it only because they can benefit from hurting others. And those people deserve to stay in hell.”

A little voice in the back of Ruben’s head, the voice that reminded him of all of the times Kipperlily looked out for him in battle or hung out with him after class or was just a regular teenage kid, that voice made him speak out one last little defense. “But Kipperlily might’ve just gotten manipulated by Porter, right?”

I was brushing my teeth, reflecting about life, & my mind went back to AFTG and there is a scene on the first book that it has been stuck on my brain since I read the trilogy again this January and it's about Seth. Now, I know the fandom -in general- barely talk about Seth because Nora decided to kill him off for shock value and when people try to talk about him, it always comes back to 'he was a homophobic, disgusting piece of shit' which yes, valid but also, are we forgetting Aaron? The babyfication of Aaron in this fandom had everyone collectively forgetting he was exactly like Seth (even worse: towards his family!!!). Two wrongs doesn't make one right & I'm in no way justifying Seth's action but if we never talk about characters on AFTG just because they were problematic, we are not talking about any of them, ever (ok maybe some of them, but still).

My point is: the scene. Neil is confused as to why Seth hates Kevin -specifically him- so much, since Seth could get along with most people if he wanted and tried hard enough but he refused to give ground to Kevin & his answer is just so humanly heartbreaking it goes to my list of moments Nora did something right in AFTG. The scene goes like this:

Neil: Why do you hate him?

Seth: Because I'm sick of him getting everything he wants just because he's Kevin Day. Do you know what fame gets you, shitface? Everything. All he has to do is ask for it, and someone will give it to him. Doesn't matter what. Doesn't matter who. The world is dying to give him anything he wants. When he broke his hand, his fans cried for him. They flooded our locker room with letters and flowers. The amazing Kevin Day can't play anymore. Their lives were over. They'd grieve the loss forever. But tell me when's the last time anyone cried over you? Never, right? They're there for Kevin every step of the way, but where were they when we needed them?

Neil, stupidly: So you're jealous.

Seth: His life is not more important than mine just because he's more talented.

Neil first instinct is to say jealousy because jealousy is something he understands (he felt jealous of Kevin for having a future, for being able to play, for the talent, for the life he never got to live when his mother ran away, etc.) but for me what Seth is trying to portrait is more like the painful awareness that you get when you realize you're also worthy of love and care. Seth is such an unexplored character who had so much potential if Nora hadn't killed him for the sake of showing how Riko could be/was dangerous (and she could have done that in so many different ways!!!) & you can see that on, for example, Nora's post about his life. Seth was always the no-priority person, the kid no one payed attention to, the boy that if killed, not even his mother would come for the funeral. He was every aspect a Fox and he spent his entire life being told he was no one and to be able to say his life is not more important than mine shows so much development; the chance he had put on himself for being open to love, to care, to second and third chances... it was all there. It breaks my heart that he never got the chance to become something. & I do not believe he was an inherently bad person? They are so young in AFTG, all of them. Maybe Seth wasn't bad; maybe he was just twenty-two, you know?

& on the extra content when they tell Allison he died and she goes 'He called me not even an hour ago! He was drunk and rambling but he was happy for the first time in weeks. He was talking about how he finally thought graduating would be okay, about how he wanted me to help him look into grad schools. He wanted to go into social work and help people like he helps us. I know he wanted to die! Everyone knows he wanted to die! Every time he said he was done with life I walked away from him and every time he came chasing after me. This is the first time--he wanted to live.' breaks my heart.

Because, ok, Seth dies. Let's pretend it was a good idea for him to die to set some sort of impact on the story for a second. Except his death goes without much fuss. The shock Nora wanted is felt for maybe three seconds, in one paragraph in the last page of TFC and then we barely talk about Seth on TRK and TKM. Neil can't even understand how impactful was Seth's death - he only cares about how it will affect the game & his guilt is more about how Allison would feel towards him then sadness over losing a teammate - and this insight we get from Allison is from the extra content and not everyone goes on to read those so if Nora wanted something out of his death - pity, shock, sadness, or whatever - she should have put this scene IN THE BOOKS.

ari and dante movie things (spoilers):

CRUEL CRUEL WORLD for omitting both "I will love you forever, Aristotle Mendoza" and "I love swimming. I love swimming...and you."

I get that a lot of the more homoerotic aspects of Ari and Dante's early friendship were left out in order to preserve the surprise of the ending and keep it a question of if they'd get together but some of those moments were really great ok. And I don't think they needed to tone down Dante's crush on Ari later on, after Chicago, when he's pretty open about it.

Absolute worst change was the moments after they first kiss. Ari would never say those things. He hates his own sexuality, but he never hates Dante's. He may sometimes be awful to Dante because of how Dante makes him feel but he wouldn't lash out in blatantly homophobic ways because of it, he'd just retreat and be mad at himself (and a little at Dante). I really can't get behind this at all.

I liked the inclusion of Ophelia more, that made the end less unexpected. Unsure why she was at the New Year's party with all the family though unless they were neighbours and stuff and not family? (Except Ari's sisters, obviously.)

Including the Bernardo reveal so early was fine except for it makes sense way more after Ari fights Julian. His parents show him the Bernardo stuff because they're afraid of what they see in Ari and how their collective silence makes everyone suffer. Ari is then horrified by everything and realizes how his violence has affected his family. Vs in the movie it's sort of just swept aside as we move onto the Dante of it all.

Also I guess it helped the exposition right at the start to have a photo of Ari with Bernardo but it was such a big point of the book that no one in the family had photos of him anywhere and that hurt Ari and so it's so nice when he takes one to put up and his parents want to put it up where everyone can see it. That was just such a really nice moment and only adding two lines could have made it happen in the movie too so I don't see why not.

Ari's dad doesn't talk really and I guess that was cut for time. I get that had to happen some places, fine. It just makes their "we're talking. Everything's better." far less of a victory since it seems like a one-off thing before they retreat into a slightly easier silence, rather than them fundamentally understanding each other better and understanding how to reach out and communicate, which is how they end things in the book. There you know they'll be OK and talk lots more.

The first scene with the bird, where the boys are shooting it with BB guns was cut also for time and mostly that was fine except for how it removed the part where Dante finds out Ari likes to fight. Which is an important revelation for Dante to have.

Why was Ileana's name changed? That was so unnecessary and Ileana is a beautiful name.

Basically everything with the parents was cut down to the point that they were all pretty 2D characters and I missed them and their friendships with each other and Ari and I guess there just wasn't time but oh what could have been.

DANTE'S GAY-ASS OUTFITS WERE EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING, OK.

Gina and Suzie suffered the same "cut down for time" treatment as everyone else but I missed them also.

I'm not sure how they could have shown it since the whole part is so internal but with the bit where Ari thinks he hates Dante, that was pretty important and they just sort of skipped it. It's a really interesting way to show how internalized homophobia can manifest.

I appreciate that the trans woman mentioned was clearly explained to be a trans woman in a way that made sense for the characters (teenagers fairly uneducated on the topic, in the 80s) but didn't use language now considered offensive and didn't misgender her.

Visually, things were lovely.

Swimming criticism: the second day Ari and Dante go swimming, so after two days of lessons, the previous day on which he learned a back float, Ari races underwater by doing whip kick. No way he'd be able to do whip kick that fast. No one even teaches it that early on, not even random kids who have no official teaching backgrounds.

I always feel in the book like Ari and Dante read a bit young for their age the first summer. That didn't really feel like it was the case here, so that was nice.

It was kind of funny when Dante and co. come back from Chicago and are all "oh my god Ari you look so different" and he looks exactly the same.

There's not so much with Legs and how boys need dogs and dogs are one of the secrets of the universe etc.. I like that stuff.

I did notice all the other bits cut for time and I did miss them all.

From the start, Alfred did NOT trust nor like your parents. You don’t have to convince him! The type of person who ever thinks to berate and gaslight you, is not the kind of person he thinks either of you should be around…

If you still want to stay in contact with them, he won’t try to stop you but he’s not going to encourage it. He can’t understand why you would put yourself through that, even though they are still your parents.

Anytime you need someone to cry to, he’s right there with a box of tissues. Even if it seems like an endless cycle, he won’t get angry with you. Not ever! It’s not like it’s your fault in any way, after all.

If they’re upset with you for dating Alfred, another man, he’s gonna feel a little guilty. But also more vindicated in constantly asking to come along when you see them. Let them see how happy you two are! That’ll show ‘em! (It won’t.)

But regardless of the reason, he’s going to try to always be around when you talk to them. If they’re so worried about seeming like good parents, perhaps they’ll remain on their good behaviour with him around.

When he first started dating you, he’d often brush off any problems you have with your parents. After all, they’re fine most of the time, right? But as time goes on, he’ll learn to want to strangle them. A couple of mistakes is understandable, but this many?! Over and over again?!

He completely understands that regardless of their abuse, you can’t imagine your life without him. He’s had many relationships like that, so he won’t try to coax you out of it. But just know that if you ever need support without him, he’ll always be there for you. In any way, any time.

Francis is not an angry man, but he finds it hard to hold himself back when it comes to your parents. I mean, the absolute audacity they have with you… if they won’t listen to your protesting, maybe they'll listen to an immortal!

As much as he can understand your reservations about distancing yourself from them, he worries greatly about your safety. If there’s anything that they do, that he can do instead, please let him know. It’s really not good for you to be around people so toxic.

Anytime you need someone stable to comfort you, he’s running to help you. He may not always have the right words, but damn he’ll try. You don’t deserve such torment, you know? It’s not fair that your parents are such an ordeal to deal with…

If they’re homophobic as well, he’s really not surprised. Not impressed either, but considering everything they’ve done, it adds up. All that means is that you two have to get even gayer to spite them.

 I mean, are you seeing these unreasonable assholes? You should like, cut them off. Being family is about respecting each other, and they choose to do everything but that! Maybe you should come live with him instead, he can take care of you instead. 

If they’re annoyed specifically because you’re dating another man, well, that just adds to it. People nowadays… back thousands of years ago no one cared! They should learn a little history before treating you terribly.

If he ever meets them, he’s gonna give them a piece of his mind. The way they act around you, that’s no way to treat a child! You don’t deserve any of it!

Normally, it’d be hard for him to recognize patterns of abuse (considering he has a couple of his own…) but with all of that changes. The moment you start crying on the phone to him, Ivan has decided your parents have lost their right to live. 

Of course, he’ll listen if you don’t want him to beat them up. They are your family after all… even if they act like you aren’t. He’ll be passive enough when he visits with you. Well, he may get a little… threatening… while you’re in the bathroom. But he can’t help it! They have no right to hurt you as they do.

After that, he’ll want to come along basically every time you see them. They want to act the puritans, surely they won’t blow up on you when he’s there. If they do, he can always just sling you over his shoulder and drive you home. He’s fully prepared to comfort you all night if you need it.

If they’re homophobic as well, he knows there’s nothing you two can do. He has plenty of experience with the type, and they do not take kindly to any education on the subject. It doesn’t really matter anyway, he’ll still love you no matter what they say.

Feliciano is going to try to be moderate, even though he wants your parents to be sent to live alone in the wilderness. He understands if you still want to have a relationship with them, and he supports you. But also if you wanna cut them off, he'll gladly take you in.

He’ll act like he doesn’t, but he does truly hate your parents. Especially how they act like they’ve done nothing wrong even when you come home to him, sobbing your heart out. Where did they find the audacity? You don’t deserve any of this! 

Normally, he rarely gets angry. Much less, confrontational! But when it comes to you, he can’t help himself. He sees how much they’ve hurt you, and he has no choice but to tell them off.

Especially if they hold your queerness against you. Being gay is wonderful! What an outdated view to hold! The absolute cruelty of hating you for something you can’t change, it makes his blood boil. Maybe you really should just cut them off…

He’ll always be there for you, no matter what you need. A shoulder to cry on, a stable home, anything. Family may be important, but no more important than your safety.

As soon as you tell Ludwig what your parents have done to you over the years, he’s going to urge you to distance yourself as much as possible. He’s seriously worried, not just for safety, but for your mental state. He can’t imagine going through that… from a damn parent!

Although he’ll always be there to comfort you, he can’t help but try to take a more proactive approach. If you really are dedicated to remaining connected with your parents, he’ll do everything he can to help you improve your relationship. Even if he thinks it’s a lost cause…

If they’re homophobic as well, he’s well-versed in defending your relationship. He has hours of reasoning and logic ready to make them feel like idiots; but unfortunately, that kind of hate isn’t that rational. You’re better off just leaving.

Whatever you decide, he’ll support you. Although he may seem tired of your endless cycle of parental problems, it’s really just because he cares about you so much. He wishes everything could be easier, but with things like this, nothing is black or white. Maybe, eventually, everything will work itself out. Then, you two can finally live in a perfect world.

Kiku may seem like he’s impartial, but he is absolutely NOT. He despises your parents, regardless of how kind they may act. Hurting you in any way… it’s the most horrid thing a parent can do.

Frankly, he may even refuse to meet them. Regardless of your insistence that they are not “always like that,” he still believes that you deserve so much better. He thinks that anyone who can act so awful and then pretend nothing happened, is someone who should not be tolerated.

Especially if they hold your love for other men against you. Any kind of illogical, ancient belief like that shows that they are beyond saving. He’s not even gonna try.

If you want to remain in contact with them, he’ll support you but never encourage it. He believes strongly in the institution of the family, but draws a line for his darling. If you tell him they’ve truly changed, he may come around, but he’ll always hold it against them.

All he wants is to protect you, no matter who it’s against. If your parents ever make you feel unwanted, unloved, or unworthy, Kiku will be there to tell you that you aren’t, over and over again.

Ok so my biggest hc here not only re:this ship but also in general to the rockafire is that Earl is. Not actually a puppet lol??? But yeah my hc is that he's like. A monster type dude similar to Mr Munch basically ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ like in general my hcs for the rockafire rely a bit on their world running on magical realism rules, where ppl see things that we'd think Odd as ordinary. Like random furry monsters just existing lol. But anyways. Continuing w that, Earl's Specific Brand Of Creature™ is just naturally tiny and light, ergo why Rolfe can just. Swing him around like that 😭 also as I mentioned in this fic, he's also very feline like and can purr, among other things!!! Going onto the shippy aspect, as i wrote on the afromentioned fic, Earl's purring is one sure fire way to calm Rolfe down if he's having a hard time 💖💖 the downsize tho is that Earl doesn't like doing it in public :/ so it's really a thing just for the two of them

Anyways, all this to say Earl had a Whole life before meeting Rolfe. And i think they had a Very Funny meet 'cute' where Earl was like. A server at a comedy club Rolfe decided to do stand up at (i think its funny if Rolfe used to do stand up by himself and SUCKED at it) and Rolfe was so bad even Earl started heckling him while waiting tables and Rolfe was SO offended bc what does this lowlife server know about comedy??? So they started to trade barbs back and forth and everyone else in the club thought it was HILARIOUS and even some ppl started wondering if it was all part of some Really Funny Bit and they had agreed to do this beforehand but. No lmao they literally just Have Chemistry when it comes to comedy. Anyways eventually Rolfe's time ran out and he was thinking like 'oh great i wasted my whole time fighting with this rando i'm gonna get booed off again-' but nah fam he was cheered on bc the fight was HILARIOUS. Rolfe wondered wtf was up but when he noticed ppl praising a very confused Earl he wised up about it and asked him if he wanted to do an act together and. Earl said No. So Rolfe just began going to the club to BEG Earl to be on his act it was High Key Pathetic 😭 but Earl did eventually agree (mostly bc word spread out abt the funny 'comedian vs server' act and the club threatened to fire Earl if he didn't do it again :'D) so yeah they eventually began hanging out outside the club, at first just to keep working on their act but eventually they started liking each others company. Like they Don't Agree with each other in a BUNCH of stuff but they could Argue about it in a fun way and they both enjoyed it. And when they Did agree it was also fun like they could talk for HOURS.

Yeah the thing is, living together and being close as they were eventually their feelings wandered into a more Flirty spot and (without quite meaning to) they began putting into their act to the point everyone was like 🤨🏳️‍🌈❓️ at them. I do think they didn't sit down to discuss the Terms of their relationship until MUCH later, so they never really called each themselves boyfriends or anything. They just had an Unspoken Thing™ and they figured it out as they went.

Anyways, they stayed in that town for a while and began doing their act at different clubs (changing it as they went from 'server vs comedian' to 'audience member vs comedian' bc several clubs weren't willing to let Earl act as if he worked there) but the past club owners kept spreading rumors abt them so eventually no club in town would take them :/ so they decided 'actually fuck this town' and just. Got into a van to go around the country as a traveling act. And they did very well!!!! They def had their ups and downs but it was mostly positives. At one point they ended in a club that had a STRICT 'the comedians must stay only on stage' that they weren't told about until last second so they had to change their WHOLE act with a few minutes to spare.

Rolfe is older than Earl by like 2 yrs (i usually write Rolfe as 37 and Earl as 35, for reference)

Rolfe is the most physically affectionate of the two, he has an habit of getting Affection Zommies™ (term coined by my girlfriend) and just. Picking up Earl to cuddle him or squeeze him or nuzzle him 🥹 and Earl just rolls with it like "oh i'm being pick up. Ok then." It's like the meme of 'came home drunk last night and got too happy to see my cat' yknow

They both smoke, but Rolfe smokes those v long and 'softer' ones while Earl smokes a heavier type (Earl probably smokes weed too on accasion). Anyways, point is, they 100% do that 'leaning really close to light up their cig with the one their partner is smoking' thing like. ALL THE TIME. And everyone thinks they're being romantic but in reality they started doing it to make their lighters last longer 😭

They lowkey have a ratatouille style system to cooking?? Like Rolfe is ok at cooking but NEEDS the recipe. On the flipside Earl has a hard time cooking bc of his side but he just Gets cooking like he can eyeball and improv things and ends up with fantastic stuff. So what they usually do is Rolfe cooks while Earl watches him and gives him indications. And yes, their system works

They're both v good with children!!! And actually like them!!! It wasn't a huge sacrifice for them to change their act to make it more kid friendly. They're also not bad babysitters.

Rolfe loves sewing and clothing design and the like. It can be hard to find stuff Earl's size, so he'll sometimes make him clothes

(Half the time is stuff not really Earl's style but is the thought that counts?)

Rolfe LOVES Earl's voice he thinks he's the best singer in the band and is constantly trying to get him more songs. Earl himself doesn't think he's that good, but he does like to sing and has fun w it so he's also not complaining.

Even tho they usually write their skits beforehand, they're also p good at improv if things go wrong. For ex. the Frank Sinatra skit was meant to have a different ending where the song went without an hitch, but then Technical Difficulties happened and they had to run with it

Earl wont admit it but he genuinaly likes how soft and fluffy Rolfe is.... world hard and cold, fur soft and warm ( ⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝)

On that note, Earl has an habit of kneading on Rolfe without meaning to (cat-like creature babeeeeyyy). Rolfe feels flattered every time it happens so he doesn't say anything, even if he might ocasionally get Poked at by claws (yes Earl has retractile claws)

I said this earlier, but Rolfe's parents are pretty garbage. They keep sending Rolfe letters trying to guilt him into taking care of them (send them money), and they can cause Rolfe to spiral. Earl's solution is to check for them constantly and shred them whenever he sees them. He just takes his claws to them and goes wild

If Earl ever meets Rolfe's parents, heads will roll

They're both also very aware of each other's issues/trauma, since they were all they had for a while they ended up accidentally trauma dumping on each other early on.

Yknow that one trope where the tall partner lets stuff in high shelves so the short one has to ask them for help? Yeah Rolfe's the complete opposite. He tries makes sure everything is accesible to Earl, esp if it's stuff he uses constantly

They're both pretty early risers, with the difference Rolfe also has an habit of staying up late. As a result, Rolfe is usually a zombie in the mornings before he gets his caffeine dose. Earl ends up trying to make sure he doesn't get himself hurt by running into walls or smthn

Pride and Prejudice and Pittsburgh by Rachel Lippincott -- a Review

My Rating 

Honestly, I’d give this book an 8.7/10; I really enjoyed it. As soon as I read the back of the book, I was hooked. A time travel romance with miscommunication?? Umm.. yes sign me up!! I loved how it switched from Lucy and Audrey’s perspectives, especially because both of our main characters were experiencing something so new, in many different ways, not just time travel. I do wish that the miscommunication went on for a little longer, but I enjoy the hurt-comfort aspect of the book. 

Overview

Audrey Cameron is an artist who lost her inspiration after a breakup. She has been in an artistic standstill for a while now. She spends her time working at her parent's convenience store in Pittsburgh, when a regular customer, Mr. Montgomery comes in saying he can help her. What she didn’t know though, is he meant sending her back in time to 1812; becoming the main character in a Regency Romance. 

Lucy Sinclair is the daughter of a wealthy businessman, who is trying to secure her marriage to the most wealthy man in England. Locking her in a loveless marriage, and a boring life; that is, until a strange girl appears on the field of her family’s estate when her father left on a business trip. 

While the two girls are together, trying to navigate their new life together and understand what has happened, a spark is born. Both are trying desperately to fall in love with their suitors and live the life everyone wants them to. Until they fall for each other. 

My Thoughts 

I read this entire book in 9 hours, I could not put it down. It was so good! It did not take long for me to get into the plot, there was comedy, heartbreak, embarrassment and of course romance. The ending? Wow, that was stressful. Like on the edge of my seat, book gripping, can’t look away, kind of stressful. 

I did find it annoying how perfect the world was. I know it's a historical fantasy, however, Lucy comments how “this is not accepted here”, but there were so many people that they met in 1812 who were accepting or understanding. It was a little unrealistic, I mean, I know queer people find other queer people, like how a pig finds truffles. But it was a little too perfect. I wish they had to navigate their love life a little more or for Lucy to have a little more turmoil with realizing she is a lesbian. Other than that, amazing!

Growing up bisexual, I always knew I liked both men and women, but it wasn’t until the last few years I became comfortable with my sexuality. I realized I made myself prefer men and go on dates with men because of my internalized homophobia and heteronormativity. Growing up Christian aslo didn’t help this, although my immediate family is ok with me being queer, I always heard how it's a sin from people at church, or how my uncle was shamed from the family because he married a man. I can relate to both the main characters in this respect. Lucy was born in 1794, it was hardly a time when women went to school, let alone kiss another girl and get away with it. She has the confliction of, ‘I have to be with a man because that is what society says’ and ‘I’ve never felt anything for a man and I would like to kiss a girl’. Later this causes some internal turmoil later on when she becomes aware of her feelings for Audrey. And for Audrey, who is from 2023, where she had crushes on both boys and girls, she was not as ashamed or confused by her feelings. But it was easier to be with a guy rather than being with a girl. Because sure, queerness is accepted today, but not by everyone, which is scary. 

Audrey also falls into heteronormativity, it can be easier than really exploring your feelings and facing the world where you are no longer part of the accepted norm. Heteronormativity for those who don’t know is: The assumption that everyone is heterosexual and that heterosexuality is superior to all other sexualities. This includes the often implicitly held idea that heterosexuality is the norm and that other sexualities are “different” or “abnormal.”. It is easier to fall into the social norm, rather than challenge it. Rachel Lippincott explains it really well in Audrey's realization of her feelings, “I’ve never been with a girl before. I’ve had crushes, sure, … And then I was with Charlie, and I could almost… avoid it entirely if I wanted to. Tuck it away into a neat little box; convincing myself it wasn’t a part of myself I really needed to explore.”. Many people feel this way, this is why most queer women and/or transmen go through a period of hyperfeminity, where they try to convince themselves and others that they are straight and/or cis, they can conform to society and live how the world wants them to live, love who they should love. Hyperfeminity for those who don’t know is: the exaggeration of stereotypically female behaviour, based on so-called gender roles. This can be seen in the way they dress, behave or how they pursue relationships. 

I will be honest, I am someone who doesn’t believe in the whole idea of true love, nor do I really understand how love works. This probably has something to do with me being asexual and aromantic… anyway, I had been asking people around me what love is, and why people put effort into something that will most likely fall apart or only cause pain when it ends. I feel like the universe put this book in my way because I was instantly bitch-slapped with an answer to my questions. Which brings me to another reason why I enjoyed this book. It made me understand love a little more, without making me feel pessimistic about my own love life. As Mr. Montgomery told Audrey, who was becoming much like me after her failed relationship, he says “There’s just as much heartbreak in not putting yourself out there, because it guarantees you’re going to miss out. And I’m not just talking about love … Just because you got hurt once by the wrong person doesn’t mean it’ll happen again if you find the right one.” and later on James, a suitor turned friend, says “Sometimes I reckon, love — real love —doesn’t care about what’s proper or what other people think. It finds you when you least expect it, where you least expect it”. Even though love is confusing and you don’t understand it, doesn’t mean that you are any less deserving of it. Even if it ends in failure, and it can lead to pain, at least you loved. I feel this book has helped me grow and understand, that not everything has to be perfect, which is a lesson I have been trying to learn for years now and will continue to learn. Mr. Montgomery later says “But even true love doesn’t come without pain, without risk. And that doesn’t make it something to run from or leave behind. It can be scary, and unexpected… but when it is with the right person. It’s worth it.”.

Conclusion

As the book progressed, it was so irritating seeing Audrey and Lucy misunderstand each other, and I loved every second of it. For most of the book they are pining for each other, it is very much a slow burn. When they finally get together, it is so good!!! There is the beginnings of a sex scene but it’s fade to black, and it doesn’t go into much detail. Remember this is still a YA book. I would have loved for it to have been written as an adult and be able to explore a more mature storyline and themes, but it still works very well as a YA. 

Genuinely, if you like miscommunication, historical, slow-burn lesbians, you will love this book. It's like if Bridgerton had time travel lesbians and a meddling old man turned matchmaker.  Read it!!

And as much as I hate celebrities dropping H’s name in interviews for clout (ok, except Troye because his story with meeting H first time and going straight to the bathroom was just what us girlie girls do when out and about and it was exactly a story I would expect from gay man talking about meeting another gay man haha) we will get stories about them and that would also be super cute.

I just hope I will live to that day when they will come out and we will witness it all.

I'm going to answer you all together since this is a topic we've covered before.

Harry and Louis are a team. They make decisions together, share a home and share their wealth and their sorrows. Harry's success is shared with Louis and vice versa. Harry wouldn't be where he is right now without Louis and vice versa. They both have their roles to play.

A coming out would benefit both of them. They are something more than the two individuals put together when they're together. The brand deals, the book deals, the film that's going to be made about them and the magazine covers etc. will benefit the both of them. A magazine cover with the both of them on will sell better than a magazine cover with only Harry on.

Like i've said before, before they both come out we need to have a seeding period so people can get used to the idea and get onboard and see how cute and in love they are. If done right they won't lose many fans, but they'll gain a lot. Harry's fans have grown up with him. They're not 8 years old anymore. They won't ditch him and stop buying his albums and go to his tour if he comes out and reveals his relationship with Louis. Harries have heard about larry. Harries have seen Harry on stage in a glittery jumpsuit singing Medicine, waving pride flags and helping fans come out of the closet. He's played a gay closeted man on film. If they're homophobic they would have ditched him a long time ago. They can continue to project onto him even if he's gay. I think we need to also count the new fans he'll get from the lgbtqai+ community and from the attention they'll get from the conspiracy being revealed as true. I think they'll gain more fans than they'll lose. Who wouldn't want to read about the lovestory of Larry Stylinson written from they own pow by themselves. It's dramatic and juicy. A secret love with good guys fighting the bad. The ups and downs. Deaths and weddings. Even antis would buy the book and watch the film and see the documentary.

When it comes to Louis he needs image rehab and a bit more good media exposure. He needs to show he's not homophobic, that he's actually friends with Harry and support him and he needs to change his laddy and macho image and act more himself. I think ending bg will help immensely in creating a better image. He'll gain so much sympathy from the gp. People already have sympathy for him bc of his mom and sister. They'll be thrilled that he's found happiness after all that misfortune. Losing a mother, sister, and now his kid isn't his after all?

To raise his profile a bit, even though he's already well known, they can do what they do to Harry's stunt girls. If he's seen hanging out with H we'll get "Who is Louis Tomlinson" articles. We'll get pap pictures, and Louis being invited to events with H etc. So when they do come out, people will know the both of them. People will love both of them and people will want the best for them. It's going to be more than okay. It will be fabulous.

I saw a post in Korean on twitter that said something like "no matter how much I think about it, there has to be something more to Taiga's admiration of Kazuki." and I didn't feel like I should reply to them because it would absolutely get lost in translation, but I wrote up a post that I put in my circle instead. This is that post, if anyone is interested? This is probably the most character analysis I've done in my entire life lmao.

I think it would be disrespectful for me to randomly reply to this person, but I extremely want to reply "Of course there is [something more to his admiration], he's gay!" There's no world where Taiga isn't gay coded! Other than Louis he's the most gay character in King of Prism! Now I'm going to explain why I think this. :D

I know the 10? people in my twitter circle will not read this and not care, but it's important! Taiga is gay! Taiga's entire backstory is that when he was a child he met a street dancer who was really nice to him, and fell madly in love with him. It was his first childhood crush.

Later in life he finds out the performer became a famous celebrity, and he changes the course of his life to follow in his crushes footsteps. He's known for buying Kazuki's merch, and even wears his buttons on his uniform every single day.

There's plot and stuff I don't want to get into, but once he becomes a fellow student with Kazuki he makes it his mission to protect him. He puts himself in harms way for Kazuki, all the while continuing to look up to him and do his best to make him proud.

The two's birthdays are one day apart, and during Taiga's own birthday song for the game he wishes a happy birthday to Kazuki instead of himself! Like ??????????

But ok maybe you think, that's not gay he just idolizes Kazuki. Well maybe it was that, until SSS came around.

In SSS Taiga admits most of this backstory while naked in a bath with his friends, and when he realizes what he said he makes this fucking blushy face and freaks out.

Idk bro this is GAY PANIC if I've ever seen it.

BUT IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH! This episode ends with Taiga having a confrontation with Kazuki, where all his friends encourage him to "Tell him your feelings." Taiga starts, but hesitates too much and loses his opportunity.

And that would be all, except in King of Prism: All Stars they run a call and response section where the audience repeats some of Taiga's famous lines. As a funny moment they added an alternative version of that scene, where TAIGA ACTUALLY CONFESSES.

Now I'm American, and I'm a gay man who specifically imagines all the characters in the media he likes as gay, but you can't tell me that this situation shouldn't be read as "they can't directly say he's in love with Kazuki, the show would be canceled."

So anyway if you don't think he's gay after this scene you're homophobic. ;) I'm kidding, everyone has their own interpretation of the characters, and I hope you enjoy mine!

Gooooood where to begin. I am the only person who knows Obi-Wan and Luke Skywalker. When people reduce Luke down to "dumb, naive, sunshine boy" it makes me mad. Yes, that is a big part of his character, and may even be most of his character in ANH, but you don't get Luke unless you understand his more mature and dangerous side. Yes, Luke is generally the optimist to Leia's realism, but I believe that is a choice Luke makes. Remember, Luke grew up on Tatooine, so he can't be entirely innocent. Luke knew how to take care of business with Jabba. If you reduce him down to dumb sunshine I feel you take away from the character.

Let's talk about Richard Siken.

For every piece of writing the are some essential parts that everyone on Tumblr is really familiar with. I wanna talk about POV, worldview, and setting.

His poems are fucking captivating because of the inherent antagonism between the three in reference to that fact that we are talking about a poem. The poems POV is simple, it's his point of view. It's first person, but not the way we typically think of it. It's not meant to draw you in, it's written like he is directly speaking to you. It is HIS perspective. Then the time comes in with the worldview of his piece, the frame work. He is telling you something that the world, in the poem, sees as secret and wrong. The two are at odds from a traditional writing stand point. How can a person's perspective be wrong? Well simple being gay in a homophobic world. Ok so that's fucked right? But it's our lives too, we the queer audience are there with him. He never needs to explain this concept, this dichotomy to us, even the fucking foreword of Crush by god damn Louise Gluck can only describe the feeling as panic and insatiable. She understands the feeling this evoked but seems incapable of standing knee deep in it like he is, like we are. The absolute death sentence that being specifically a gay man can be. The setting is what ties this together and it's what Gluck is picking at when she describes panic. The setting is panic. You've locked eyes and have truly seen each other. He's wild with it, he's grabbed you by the shoulders and knows he can't directly tell you. Knows that a truth like he is trying to communicate cannot be started playing both did to it's nature reading the simplicity and because to be over heard would mean being outed. So be had you and his hero is right and he's panicking and he's rambling and he's shouting at you what it is to be him. But he's inherently out of time the worldview is present, it's coming. What he had to tell you is important though, it's his POV it's who he is. There's nothing more important than telling your fellow man who you are, but the setting won't allow it. They're all fighting each other and your can feel the momentum build until he hits You Are Jeff and he's finally putting all the pieces together. All the other poems and rants are finally coming together.

Thoughts

I’ve been thinking for some time that I’ve wanted to work through my views on the polarisation of society, This is going to be long and rambly

First of all where I’m starting from. I’m a middle-aged, left-leaning centrist, bi, cis white (though part Italian) male, atheist, I love the fact that my kids have grown up totally happy to have conversations with me to say they think they might be, ace, gay, or gender fluid, and I love the fact that my kids can not understand racism. (and by understand I mean they can’t see why a person's colour or heritage makes a damned bit of difference to the way you treat them)

So you could say I’m a bit of a liberal person.

Now the problem, as a society we have lost the ability to be tolerant, we have lost the ability to disagree, and we have lost the ability to debate.

I think we have a few reasons for this.

We (the Liberals) just decided we weren't taking their shit any more and managed to get the majority to agree with us. Anyone who disagreed was essentially silenced by the consensus but the argument wasn’t won just driven underground, the racism/homophobia/etc adopted a cult mentality and gradually formed into a right-wing group

What I mean by that is that they have grouped together in us vs them mentality the media have re-enforced this with the idea that the liberal elite wants to rob them of their id and their religion leading to the idea that we wanted to cancel Christmas, or stop non-Islamic forms of religious expression.

Along comes Brexit. For the last 20+ years governments have been using “Europe” as the whipping boy for multiple issues they didn’t want to talk about, and for the last 10 of those years, we’ve had a UKIP protest vote of the right-wing actively sabotaging the political process in the EU Parliament.

So the leave campaign presents a simple solution. Europe has been stopping us from making the UK great, we send all our money to Europe and get nothing back, by voting leave you are voting for change, your vote will “mean” something.

This triggers something, the latent racism, and homophobia that has been being held down for so long leaks out into the consciousness. 

Popularism is spreading around the world. People who are poor, or feel themselves marginalised and under attack want simple answers to impossibly difficult questions, and the Trumps, Bolsenaro’s and Johnsons of the world stoked that fire.

Somehow it was OK to be Racist, Homophobic, and Nationalist again. I always remember going to vote, and an old man stopped me on the way into the polling station asking me how I’d vote, I smiled and said “Well half my family is Italian so I’d better vote to stay”, he backed away and replied “If I could I’d kill every fucking one of you”, stunned I just laughed at him and moved in. I’d experienced racism before as I went to the “WOP” school and my grandmother was very dark southern Italian with practically an afro, but mum and I are much lighter.

So we leave Europe, whether you supported leaving or not, we’re out now, and so the question is really want kind of future can have. but the Right-wing politicians have then spent the last 7 years trying to keep the “Brexit idea” alive, they can’t blame Europe anymore so they blame the re-moaners.

However, in response to this, we the liberals have fallen into the same trap. Now anyone that doesn’t agree with all of us is against us, and that is just as toxic. I know I’ve fallen into that trap of bunching everyone together in this post,

and the only way we can get out of it is to talk.

I’ll give one example. Refugees / Immigrants and I’ll try and use the right terms. Those who are against immigration are scared.

- Crime Increase

- People getting houses when UK residents can’t.

- Strain it puts on Services.

Now all these are valid concerns but we should be able to have honest conversations about it. For me, I’d say

Crime:

Yes crime will increase but only in line with the number of people, there’s no hard link between the two.

Homing refugees.

Now I remember seeing refugees queuing outside the house dep in North London every day, and one of my English family said “how come these people coming in can get a house but cousin X who has 2 kids and is stuck living at her folks still can’t get one” I don’t actually have an answer to this but saying...but she does have family here who can, it’s far from ideal but these people have nothing and that has to put them at the front of the queue, however, I would say, perhaps we need to spread them around the country a little more perhaps if you’re a refugee you go where you are put initially, and then after a few years you can move around, that also might help on the next piece

The Strain it puts on services

This is not a problem for the refugees, for decades our local and central govt has failed at producing communities; utilities, schools, and doctors are not fit for the current population There should be nationally agreed standards for communities and if any fall below the numbers goes into special measures to build more infrastructure and get more staff. Refugees can be part of the solution but they’re NOT part of the problem.

Ghettoization

Now I do agree if someone comes to a country they should try and learn how to fit in a little At least learn the language and social norms. for instance, I want to visit Japan one day and so I’ve learnt all about how Onsen work and how to make the locals feel more comfortable around me. That doesn’t mean I’m going to stop being me, it just means I’m going to be considerate.

Perhaps rather than teaching them about the date of the great London fire or something we could just do language lessons for all?

however we’ve also had this happen multiple times, you get groups of people from the same ethnic background living together, and it doesn't destroy a community but it will change it.

Not sure if any of this made sense, or is even coherant, but I had to do something rather than sceam at the TV again. I’ve reached the point I either have to ignore the news (which is another danger sign), or as soon as I see a Tory I just want turn off , that may be because of our quality of journalism but perhaps save that for another night!

This isn't new.. gun owners have for years been talking about this, we've all been screaming that anti-gun laws are based in racism, homophobia and transphobia, the few times prior to things like the NFA being installed to stop mobsters from buying automatic weapons ( Yes automatic and semi automatic are two different things, yes fully semi automatic is the same as semi automatic, yes majority of the guns in 99% of peoples hands are semi automatic.) anti gun laws were about black people not gaining guns!

Add on that today if a black person owns a gun, they're immediately looked down on by guess who? OTHER BLACK PEOPLE! because we have been brainwashed to believe that if a black person owns a gun it must be for bad reasons, but white people can own them and cops can own them cause they'll save us.

Great question, just like black people LGBTQAI+ has had a horrible history with governments around the world especially our own(US) and being a minority in many cases in this country.

A minority that some people hate and want to hurt, why shouldn't you arm yourself, get training and be prepared? Why should you cry out for the government to help when we all know they won't when you can help yourself?

Now look Ronald Reagan is the devil, but even the devil made some valid points

It goes on to talk about keeping men free, when I read that to me it means keeping black people, gay people, trans people etc etc etc free, free from any form of oppression that the government can lay down on us and in recent years have!

Instead of fighting against having a right, especially when so many are being taken away from us, how about you use your rights, arm yourself and learn, find instructors with real skills, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, don't let people scare you or their potential views scare you away, get the training continue to train, build up your friends and community and protect yourself.

Week 48.4/52: November 29th - December 5th 2021 | Jerry Part 2

Morning shift with Matt and it was nice despite me only sleeping for 4 hours again HDJSJKSKSSKS. Forever a zombie. I refuse to do any CSR now because I’d rather just sleep when the students are checking in LOL. I’m glad that Matt lets me :^) Anyway, shift went okay but I was SO SLEEPY. Survived working, went back home to rest for a bit and Jerry came to pick me up and first stop was Panda Express because my dumbass was determined to get it before I leave and I have learned the hard way that some places here are impossible to get to by public transit. But Panda smelled so nice and nostalgic (suddenly transported back into CAB). I got chow mein, honey sesame chicken, orange chicken, and Beijing beef!

Next stop was Green Bottle for dinner. They gave us free "welcome" fries (with seasoning and honey) and a free polaroid photo of us to keep. Apparently they can tell we are not from here... help lol my tourist vibes (oh wait maybe it's because of my BC vaccine passport lmao). We ordered their fried chicken with cheese corn fondue. Very delicious!!! Also got this free lychee lemon shot lmao it legit tasted like lychee calpico water LOL. Not sure why they give so much free things but I support it. Next stop was Don't Yell at Me for bubble tea. I got their aiyu jelly frose yakult drink. Pretty good but I went for 多肉葡萄 but they don't even have it because it's seasonal. I also went for their cup logo but due to shipment problems they only had plain cups and I have never been so disappointed LOLLL. Why am I obsessed with logos :/ 

After bubble tea, I thought that we were going home but Jerry said we were going to karaoke and that the night has just started LMAO IM LIKE ITS 10PM but okay so we ended up at a KTV place. It was fine but after around 1.5 or 2 hours into it, we heard so much yelling and screaming and fighting and things getting smashed..... and then people kept running across our room and we were so scared and confused. T___T Eventually the police/ambulance all arrives and carried someone away on a stretcher. Police officers came and started questioning us if we knew the people who were involved. But we were literally in our room the entire time... I opened our door and looked out and saw drips of blood and then a huge pool of blood. The area was closed off with police tape. We were not allowed to go to the washroom or leave the place at all because it was a crime scene....... the KTV had the audacity to ask us to pay for the entire 3.5 hours even though half of our time was spend in fear and not actually singing because wtf......... how are we supposed to sing when people are dying outside and there was an attempted murder....... plus we couldn't ding anyone in because there was an entire squad outside our door???? anyways so scammed and traumatized lol. I wanna put this place on blast. 

We were not allowed to leave until 2:30am (literally I was having a meltdown in the room while Jerry did Kpop girl group dances to distract us HDJSSKSLS LMAO he’s like “it’s fine, I work at a hospital, people die on me all the time” DJHJKFJSKFJKS). After the police took photos of our ID and we filled our witness account forms, we were finally allowed to go. It was so JAJDJDKSLSLSSL. Jerry and I were just two lost uninvolved kids..... I was so scared that they would trap me in there until 8am or something but I had to work so???? I had no battery on my phone and my contacts in my eyes for 20 hours....... and I had no idea how long we would be stuck in there. Someone pay for our therapy omg. So done. What is life... HDSJSSKS we were just trying to be productive and hang out lots but this is the result. Cries.......
