the thing about barton and his own 'foil' as she should technically be considered, as she is technically the complete opposite of him in every way that matters, is that sumire [ whom i have talked about a few times on here, albeit briefly, so i will give you a brief refresher on her and that is that... her character eventually commits these killings based on the twelve main tarot cards in a deck based on them not fitting her idea of what 'perfect' looks like (kind of like barton BUT much different at the same time) ] and barton used to know each other as they were best friends as kids — even if it was only for a few years.

and as strange as this may sound, a broken promise between them was partially the catalyst behind what started her descent into feeling this need to 'judge' people, which is quite the coincidence as it may seem. because where do most of her victims end up dying? in these settings where she has set up these 'mock trials' for people. so, i know that i said i would talk about how barton had inadvertently created a monster a longgg time ago, but i now am sharing it with you all. because although one cannot blame barton fully for her actions as sumire, of course, has to take responsibility for them herself; but this did play a part in being a catalyst for her feeling all of this resentment and hatred for the world / people around her that led up to her first murder.

which, as you might have it, was the chariot: a tarot card that symbolizes revenge, willpower, and essentially tries to subconsciously put off this message that you are moving in the 'right direction.' i don't think it's so much just the promise itself though that makes this important — it's also that barton himself essentially forgot about the promise he made to sumire, as terrible as that may sound. it actually kind of gives you more insight as to what was going on in barton's mind as a kid because he basically made sumire promise him this: that, if he ever got on the 'wrong path,' that sumire would be there to show him a better one. and that she would attempt to reconnect with him if they ever got separated somehow / give him a sign of some kind that she was still there, so he could meet her.

and i say that this provides more insight because i haven't really gone into depth about this, but barton has expressed this idea in one roleplay on here. + that is that he didn't want to end up like this. however, regardless of that statement, there is no washing away of all of the heinous things he's done and he chose to do them anyway. i'm just thinking about how messed up it is that sumire, up until the point where she started her murders, had casually been searching for barton because the way in which his victims were found was vaguely remiscent of the way that wesley used to kill his victims. + this meant that he was definitely on the wrong path and she would eventually end up on the wrong one too.

i tried a solo journaling ttrpg for the first time by playing chalice and it was super fun!!! i needed a brain break after fighting actium, and it had the perfect amount of prompting while still letting you take the lead on the creative decisions and connections. i came away from it with a surprisingly coherent and circular story given the fact that it was all randomized

ANSWERS!!!

1. How do/did the Spooky Beloveds meet?

Virgil is a space cop (acab except for him). Remus is Remus (he killed a man).

2. Has Vee ever been on a space mission before or is he a newbie?

He’s been on quite a few, cause it’s his job to escort criminals to and from the prison (mostly to, because prison systems don’t function very well as a means of rehabilitation, and probation is harder on the moon). Space travel is kinda hard to get used to, though.

3. Very curious about Mars' character so what truly makes him an asshole is he a villain?

This is explained in the first 300 or so words of the fic, so minor spoiler warning ‼️ His whole deal is complicated, but mostly he’s just a shitty rich guy. Mars Creativity is basically Elon Musk, but better and smarter and worse. Also, all the OC names in this fic have some meaning. Remus’s momma’s name is Rhea (probably Rhea Duke but that’s subject to change), and Roman’s mother’s name is Silvia Creativity. Do with that information what you will.

4. Are any of the other Sides in this fic if so are they also Astronauts or do they have different titles as well?

So far only Roman and Patton have been mentioned, but I am planning to include all of them. Patton is a shuttle pilot. Roman is complicated (explained in the first few hundred words as well). I think Janus is, briefly, Remus’s cellmate? As for Logan, I haven’t figured out a role for him yet, but I feel like he works with Virgil in some capacity. I’m not sure how active of a role the others will play.

5. Is there an actual prison on the Moon?

Yes! It’s officially named the Lunar Criminal Detainment Facility, but, c’mon. It’s the moon prison, and that’s what everyone calls it. (Also, we’re pretending space travel has been made easier by futuristic tech, cause why would I ever do research for my writing) (the trip to the moon still takes 3 days though, to give the guys time to bond)

The Anti Ecto Acts:

The Anti Ecto Acts are a policy pushed through by the Ghost Investigation Ward under the radar of the JL and the JLD, its basically a policy that uses the Fenton's research that claims that ghosts are nothing but malevolent entities created when the strong emotions from the moment of someone's death imprint on deposits of ectoplasm in the atmosphere. The claim is that though they can mimic human emotions, they are anything but. This research is extremely biased based on their own experiances with ghosts, which have been skewed from the start because they expected to be attacked by them. Well yes some ghosts are more of a concept (such as Undergrowth, Nocturn, Vortex & Clock Work ect), there are those who are the souls of the deceased who didn't really believe in anything but did not wish to be reborn so their soul wound up in The Infinite Realms. The Anti Ecto Acts basically allow the GIW to capture, kill or imprison ecto entities, however there is an intentional lack of definition to what that means. Well most would assume it means the creatures that hale from The Infinite Realms, really it allows them to take those with extreme ecto exposure into custody as well. This includes most of Amity due to the extremely elevated ecto levels due to the Fenton's Portal, and can mean many people in larger areas and sometimes even metas who's power's come more from ecto exposure than a natural ability. Because of this the violation to The Meta Human Protection Act is the main angle point when the JL & JLD learn about and officially oppose the Anti Ecto Acts, the Lanterns getting involved and stating that the act is for all intense purposes a deceleration of inter-dimesional war really helps their case to.
