Weekend Update 03/10/2024

Made it another week Nerdie.

That I did. I believe today is Sunday. Too much time in this chair. I think I slept in it before. Too many times.

Nerdie, don't you have a bed?

I do, I don't always make it there. I've usually zoned out and nodded off, the wake up when my neck hurts. 👀 I'm not always writing either, just thinking sometimes.

Couldn't you think in bed Nerdie?

I could, but I don't. That sounds like a good idea. My ideas aren't always great. But I did have a few this week.

My March Spring Prompts continue. I was able to do ten of them without repeating a character! 🤗 This upcoming week we'll see some Pedro peeps come back. Key words: gas station sushi, angst, oil and bath. Remember this is Nerdie 😎, it could be any and everything, but my prompts are mature and not explicit. I do write about some heavy subjects, fluff, a few giggles, and have some innuendos, but my main masterlist is 78% smut so just go there.

The WIP I’d been mentioning for the last few weeks or months (could be either) is finished and posted : Diddle your Dieter to Disco. My first Dieter smut actually which is hilarious at least to me. 🤣 The rest of his Masterlist is fairly fluffy. I would check the warnings on it, I put a lot in it. 👀

Part Two of my series The Lake Between Us is up. Make sure to read the warnings. Ezra introduction has a lot going on. It's an AU so he has both arms but that doesn't mean I didn't torture him other ways. 👀 I do love that ya'll love the taglist name "Taste-testers of Ezra's gumbo." 😆

Unless otherwise specified, they'll be open anytime with the caveat that I'm a human being with real thoughts, feelings, opinions, and responsibilities, meaning that I may not have the interest/ ability/ motivation/ time to write everything received, and requests may take an exorbitant amount of time (think, literal years) to be written because that's just how it is. 🥲

BG3 February Writing Challenge: Day 6

Day 6 (SFW): Teaching each other how to do something.

[This is a little continuation of Tav and Dammon's story from my series The Hellion's Heart. However, apart from the last few paragraphs after the page break, it can be read entirely as a standalone. Please note that while the original series leaves Tav's race open-ended, this little drabble assumes a non-tiefling Tav.]

Tav frowned down at the scrap of paper in their hand. They’d been helping Dammon organize his papers in preparation for the upcoming tax season. The bulk of it had been dull work—organizing receipts by date, sorting through old jottings to see whether any of them contained pertinent information about business expenses, or if they simply needed to be thrown out. This particular note, however, was quite indecipherable.

“Hey Dammon?”

“Yeah?” his voice echoed faintly from the other room, where he was busy taking stock inventory.

“I can’t read your handwriting on this one. Can you take a look?”

“Sure, one moment.” She heard a gentle clattering sound as he dropped whatever he’d been working on, followed by the thump of bootsteps over the floorboards and the spicy musk of his breath as he leaned over her shoulder.

“Oh,” he breathed, plucking the note from her hand. “No wonder you couldn’t read it. It’s in infernal.”

“Really? I didn’t know you wrote infernal.”

His eyes darted over his own handwriting. “Sure. A lot of tieflings use it for privacy. Zevlor recommended we use it when we were in the Grove. Got quite a bit of practice from that. I still use it sometimes, so I won’t forget. This one’s just a shopping list, so we can toss it.”

Tav peered down at the note, wondering at the strangely beautiful script. “Is it hard to learn? The writing system, I mean?”

He shrugged. “I don’t think so. Though I suppose it comes naturally to tieflings. Still, it’s not all that hard. I could teach you, if you’d like.”

Tav took a moment to study the lettering. “You know what, why not. It could be fun.”

Dammon’s face lit up with a warm smile that made Tav’s chest warm. “Alright then. Tonight, when I’m done with work, I’ll teach you.”

As it turned out, learning infernal did not come easily to non-tieflings. Patient a teacher as Dammon was, Tav struggled to discern the jagged letters from one another, eyes swimming with what she perceived to be nothing but chicken scratch.

Still, she was determined to learn, so Dammon left them to practice with a handwritten copy of the alphabet, which Tav carefully copied every evening before bed. As difficult as Infernal was, Dammon had mentioned not wanting to forget how to use it, so it must’ve been important to him. If that was the case, then Tav wanted to be able to share it with him.

About a week after their first lesson, Tav had an idea, one they spent an entire evening bringing into fruition, hands shaking with nerves as they worked at Dammon’s tiny kitchen table. They were just placing the finishing touches when he came in from the forge, brow sheened with the sweat of a day’s labor.

“How’s the writing going?” he asked, now well-used to her daily routine of script practice.

Tav swallowed down her nerves, then rose quickly from her chair, thrusting the sheet of parchment out towards him. “See for yourself.”

Dammon gave her a curious look, then crossed the room to read what she’d written. It wasn’t unusual for her to ask that he check her work, but he must have noticed how nervous she was.

He read for what felt like a long time, parchment crinkling where his fingers gripped the edge. At first, Tav thought their penmanship might just be messy, or that the letters were too smudged to read from her erasing her work too many times. But apparently, that wasn’t the problem at all.

“Is it…supposed to say something?” Dammon asked.

Tav shifted uncomfortably. “Um…yeah. Did I make a mistake?”

“You must have. I mean, this is gibberish. Unless this is another language. ‘Ilpvey’…”

Tav snatched the paper from his hand. “What? No, that’s not right at all! This is supposed to be an ‘O.’ Wait a second, I’ll fix it.” She hurried back to the table, crossing out the wrong letters and re-writing them. “Gods, I was only a line off,” she muttered to herself before shoving the note back into Dammon’s hands, praying he wouldn’t notice the hot flush rising up her neck. “Here, now read it.”

Dammon gave her a questioning look, then peered down at the corrected note. At first, his expression remained one of confusion. Then, something appeared to click, and a sweet smile pressed its way into the corner of his mouth. Still, he didn’t say anything, merely stared down at the message without a word, which only made Tav more nervous.

“Umm, does it make sense now? If not, I can try again…”

No response. He was still looking down at the note.

“Dammon?”

Finally, he looked up, eyes shining electric blue in the dark. For a moment, he merely stared at her with a strange expression, as if he were trying to determine whether she was real. Then, just as Tav was considering fleeing the room in shame, she was being pulled against him, note still clutched in his hand as his arms wrapped around her in a tight embrace.

“It does make sense, sweetheart,” he hummed against her neck. “I love you too.”

Tav smiled against his shirt, eyes falling shut with relief. It was the first time either of them had said it.

In the eventful days that followed, Tav forgot about the note entirely. After tax season came final preparations to take on the Elder Brain. Then, the battle itself was followed by a period of necessary healing, in which Tav spent weeks in bedrest. All the while, Dammon remained at her side, both of them grateful that the other had made it out of the entire ordeal alive.  

She hadn’t even known Dammon bothered to keep the note until many years later, when she came across it by chance while flipping through some old books of theirs. At first, she was confused as to why he’d folded the note inside a copy of an erotic play—The Pleasurable Deal. It wasn’t until she read the opening lines that any of it made any sense to her.

For now the game did start. He’d said that, she recalled, that first time they’d met at the Carress. At the time, she hadn’t known what he was talking about. But now, it made sense, perhaps more than he could possibly have realized at the time. Just like the protagonist, they’d both gotten far more than they’d bargained for with that deal.

She smiled as she read the words she’d written so long ago—I love you.

If that first night was how the game started, then this was how it ended.

Okay Shannon, last night I was headed to bed and BAM Kennedy and Bucky thoughts in my brain. Your writing is so good it’s always on my mind.

But anyway, I was thinking about Kennedy and Bucky as the camps start to get to Bucky. Is Kennedy able to keep him grounded? Does she notice it getting to him and help him process? I just feel like having someone there for him in the camps would have really helped. Also having someone to look after would have given him “a job” sort of.

And SECONDLY, I don’t know what you are planning for the forced march or the escape attempt, but I can’t wait to see the girls with them on the March. I just know protective Bucky (and Brady) are going to be full force.

To answer your first question - something I ALWAYS think about and ponder on when I have some mindless things and tasks to do - (1) I would definitely say Kennedy does keep Bucky grounded (in an upcoming prompt with Bucky’s POV we explore that aspect a bit more actually yay!). But Kennedy definitely does, and in some ways, Bucky almost doesn’t notice in, it’s so subtle. But from the time she shows up, he realizes that she’s such a calming and equally comforting presence for him. Probably because she’s confident, a loyal and absolutely incredible friend, and someone who can hold her own. And he admires that about her. A. LOT. It also makes him want to protect her.

SO. Having that *want* to care for and protect someone who he cares for (and slowly realizes - oh wow I think I love her like that too???) really keeps him grounded and going at the end of the day. I really like the take you have of just having someone there to care for and protect and love. For me, you can really see how love (all sorts of love, friendship, family, romantic, platonic, etc….) transcends war. Even though war will always be the horror it is, to get through it, people turn to love. And that’s really what we see here with Kennedy and Bucky and I think it’s quite beautiful :)

I think also Bucky having the want and responsibility to care for someone, mainly the boys and Silver Bullets girls, especially Kennedy, makes him want to stay alive. Definitely because it is a major and important part and we have a lot of these very human aspects that come out in this specific series of events - the human want to survive and live, caring for your friends and your allies, the want to keep your crew and your people safe. “Or a condom.” Brady dutifully amended the petition.

“I repeat -what the hell for?”

“They’ve drank a lotta coffee sir.”

“Any of you fellas got condoms?” Doc Egan asked his patients with a laugh and got a series of predictable replies. “Gale Cleven sure as hell don’t.”

There were light hearted moments like that, many of them in fact, but six hours of flying with wounds as bad as the ones they were tending was no joke, there were bits of laughter and there were times of quiet and there were restless sleepers whose terrors not even morphine could dim.

“Forty minutes out.” Major Cleven had gone quiet over the coms for so long it was like hearing from God again when he came on, gentle and steady.

Dancing together while one person falls, the other lands on top of them and the fallen one laughs. The other confesses.

Traditional Valentines Day confession. Giving them chocolates and a kiss if you’re brave enough.

Confessing to a friend that you’re in love with them and they overhear it.

Scolding them for doing something stupid and unintentionally saying, “why did I have to fall for you”.

PoliZ's WIP Update - 25 Sep 2024

Fell a little short of my weekly writing goal.   I touched four  fics (2 new & 2 WIPs)  for a total  of  1825  words,  about half of which were on a single fic.

I’m juggling  20+  active/semi-active WIPs with my current  deadline being the new WinterIron Gets It Done server bingo event  which runs til the end of September.

WinterIron Gets It Done Bingo [WIGID] (Ends 30 Sep 2024)

This new WinterIron Discord server event runs through the month of September and is a flash bingo where you choose one or more  five-square bingo strips to complete.  I’m targeting to get at least two strips done for a blackout - with a stretch goal of three - I’ve currently got 11  fills across three strips. 

* Classic_5 - Favorite Song -  combined this with the Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF270 Lights and Sirens] for  Duty Calls, an established WinterIron ficlet where a date gets interrupted.  It came in at 203 words and will probably get posted to Ao3 by the end of the month.  

Build-A-Bucky Bingo [BaBB_R1] (Ends 31 Oct 2024)

Another fun year-long  event from the folks at  @buckybarnesevents!  Each month there’s a list of prompts and you choose (at least) one  each month for your card!  At thirty-four  fills and one month to go, I think I’ve gone a bit overboard …. 😁

* May:  Bucky’s Trigger Words -  combined this with a previous  Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF251 Out There] for Just To Live One Day Out There - a Winter Soldier self-reflective ficlet. It came in at 312 words and will get posted to Ao3 Real Soon. 

* September: First Meeting - filling this with the upcoming Chapter Nine of  A Sugar-Coated Pill  where Bucky gets to meet Obadiah Stane.  Needless to say, he doesn’t get along with the older alpha.  It’s crossing over with my  TSB:  Aug Adoptable: Resolve –   it’s coming in at 1732 words and will post on Friday. Stay tuned for a final chapter in October! 

* September: Feelings Denial -  Posted Carrying Things Forward  on Friday - it’s a sequel to A Little Bit Carried Away - looking at Bucky and Tony living together and where their relationship is starting to lead.  It crosses over with my  WIB  N4 - A/B/O: Mates and pJBB - C2_A1 - "There's nothing wrong with you."  squares and is currently listed as chapter 1 of 2, but I’m using some of the ideas I had for the second chapter on  A Sugar Coated Pill,  so may re-tag it as a one shot, with potentially more in the series.  

Flufftober 2024  [FlfT_24] (Runs 1-31 Oct)

This writing challenge hosted by @flufftober  runs for the month of October, but the prompt list has already been published, so you can get a jump start!  My goal is to write one fic a week that incorporates these prompts - here’s some possible crossovers - if there’s one that sounds really good - let me know!

* 22 - Heirloom - Using this, combined with my WIB G2 - Edwin Jarvis &  TSB T2 - Wedding -  for Chapter 10 of A Sugar-Coated Pill.  It’s jumping forward in time and has Tony gifting a tie bar to Bucky as his ‘something old’ for their wedding.  It’s sitting at  966 words and will post on the 22nd.   

Whumptober 2024 [WmpT_24] (Runs 1-31 Oct)

This writing challenge hosted by @whumptober  runs for the month of October, but the prompt list has already been published, so you can get a jump start!  My goal is to write two fics (whump isn’t normally my bag)   that incorporates these prompts - need to  explore more potential crossovers.

Signups are still open for pre-made cards for Round Two of this super-fun bingo event! I have nineteen  fills and zero WIPs at the moment - setting this aside for the moment, as I have other time-sensitive events going.

This amazing bingo event from the folks over at @buckybarnesbingo is back!  I have fifteen  fills with one WIPs at the moment, but a couple  more crossovers planned. 

* U3 - Yelena Belova  - Magica and I are circling back around to Peresmešnik, (aka Three Avengers and a Baby) - with the next chapter featuring Tony’s interactions with Mirriam, and a revelation about her parentage. The chapter is sitting at about 475 words, and needs more fleshing out before we’ll be ready to post … maybe next month?   

*  K2 - IMAGE: Bucky and Steve in Siberian silo hallway (CA:CW)  - Combined this with the Flash Fiction Friday prompt  [#FFF269 Living Weapon]  for  Reconstruction - a fix-it/canon divergent ficlet where Steve, Bucky and Tony team up instead of fighting.   It came in at 268 words and will get posted  to Ao3 before the event is over.   

Tony Stark Bingo - Mark VIII [TSB_R8]  (Ends 31 May)

* R2 - I love you 3000  - came up with an Endgame-compliant drabble for this prompt:  A Difficult Decision is a look into Tony’s thought processes right after tucking Morgan into bed.  Will post sometime soonish.

1st Birthday / 2k Follower Celebration!

This little blog turns one year old on Saturday, May 13th. 🎂

Sooo this weekend 12-14th I’ll be doing some celebratin’. I hope you join me 🫶

I posted Sonnet #29, my first ever fanfiction, on May 13th 2022. Little did I know what this blog might become 12 months later! I cannot believe I have written over 340k words since then - that’s the equivalent of more than 3.5 novels, apparently! Eek, talk about leaning into a hobby haha!

Also, thanks to renewed interest in Bridgerton from the Queen Charlotte series, I have just crossed the 2k follower mark today!!

I’ll do NSFW Alphabets, and maybe dabble in a few NSFW headcanons but please try not to send me all NSFW stuff.

- Halloween Related Requests:

In advance so I’m not scrambling to try and do those up and coming months. Both stories and headcanons! Do stuff related to Halloween activities- trick or treating, Halloween parties, ghost stories, ghost hunting, Halloween vibes, Halloween party activities like bobbing for apples or a haunted house, carving pumpkins, decorating, pumpkin patch things with an artsy reader or character. WIP Wednesday/Thursday

I saw @secretelephanttattoo upcoming one shot series she’s doing on quiet moments 👀 It comes out Saturday’s people. So I figured I’d put together a little something. I was also tagged by @pedroshotwifey she has a deviously dark Javier Peña series weekly on Fridays as well. The end of the week is stuffed full of content it seems. 😎

1. Still working on Javi G. So far, very sweet, I have 2 chapters done and I’d like to thank @linzels-blog for beta reading for me. 🤗 I'm going to name this thing eventually. And maybe then I can share a chapter with you all.

2. Somehow, despite most starting to write for Tim Rockford, I’ve stalled in my second chapter of Roc & Doc. I’m mad at myself though I know inspiration wanes at times. 😭 But I'm still mad. I want more bad cop jokes.

3. Me being, well me. Now I’m gonna try sandwiches so I made a Double Feature Masterlist where there will be two Pedro/Oscar/other fic character and a female reader. Fics for this one are pending. But there might be one on that list by the time I post this. 🫡

4. Still working on both Dave/Santi and Pero/Jack for M/M.

5. More Weddings 101 with Dieter will be coming. Likely later in the month.

6. Next month, because again I’m me and a sponge, 🧽 I’ve decided to do a daily March prompt dealing with spring prompts from @creativepromptsforwriting I'm not used to using prompts. I was inspired by @trulybetty ‘s daily February valentines. My ideas pop up, very strange but hard to grasp. So I wanted to try and be more focused.

Despite all the smut I put out, I have my fluffy moments. 😚 Here's a fluffy moment from my Javi G fic:

They were warm from the sunlight, he brought a hand to her face to cup it, but let it hover. “Is it alright if I touch your face Señorita Abigail?” Javier questioned softly, she nodded and dropped her hands, letting them rest at her sides. “Only if you call me Abigail or Abby rather. Señorita is a bit too formal.” A smile graces her face as his sun-kissed hand cupped her face with his thumb outlining her soft cheek. She couldn’t resist reaching for the hand still at his side and holding it. The moment appeared surreal as they stood, the crashing of the waves behind them, with another soft breeze in the air. “Señ- Abby, did you want to come to lunch as you are now? Or travel back to your hotel to change. I find myself fine with either option you choose.” The chocolate haired man explained, leaving Abigail to decide. It would be best to freshen up before going to his home which looked to be enormous. A squeeze of his hand and a nod confirmed that she heard him.

I quite like how this is turning out. A much different flavor that 'Weddings 101 with Dieter'. These two kids are going to be a cuteness overload.

Steph’s December Writing Challenge - Day 1: Never Change

All snug in your most comfortable clothes with a raspberry filled pastry in hand, you watched the wintery scenery of the endless snow dusted trees passing by. From Frankie’s view, it was as if you were seeing snow for the first time - and your excitement and child-like wonder never faded when it came to the arrival and duration of this season.  

Frankie loved the way you enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; how you were able to live in the moment and just exist. Your enthusiasm paired with his reserved nature keeps him grounded.

"Oh my god, I'm going to learn how to bake this when we get home." You said, mouth stuffed with a large bite of the sugary packed pastry. You bought a few of them during a quick pit stop at a nearby town, and every now and then you would share a bite with Frankie as he drove to your planned getaway.

You heard a stifled laugh, to which you jokingly pouted at him. He found you endearing - you knew. He glanced over at you to see your cheeks full of food. "What?" You asked playfully before swallowing.

Frankie matched your smile and lightly shook his head then returned his attention to the road. 'Never change. Please never change’ was what he would always say in his head every time you expressed your zest for life. 

"Nothing, baby. I look forward to trying it."
