“It’s the eyes,” Tommy said with a sigh but he didn’t seem too upset about it. No, he sat down on the bed and petted Eddie’s head before paying attention to Buck. Buck was still asleep but he instinctively leaned into Tommy’s touch. “Rest,” Bobby repeated, “all of you.” And with that he left them alone.

It had been a week now since they had been found and saved. Five days since the hospital had let them go. And today they were going back so the doctors could decide if Evan and Eddie should be allowed to shift again. Evan was quite excited, understandably so, and Eddie much the same though he was better at hiding it. Tommy was excited too, excited to be finally talking to his boyfriends again, hopefully. But he was also worried. Bobby had told Tommy that he had nothing to feel guilty for and Eddie and Evan certainly didn’t behave like they blamed him. And yet…

“So, my lord,” Tommy asked as he sat down his bags, “do you mean to tell me that I have spent two months following your captors, trying to find a good moment to free you, and all the while you have grown… close to them?” The rogue, Evan, as he’d told Tommy in a way that made it quite certain that Tommy was not to use Buck under any circumstance. Not that Tommy wanted to. The situation might be quite different from what Tommy had assumed but that didn’t mean that he’d just trust his lord’s captors—ex-captors?—like Lord Edmundo did. Tommy looked around and saw his lord blush furiously as he probably considered just how close they had grown. At least he looked less exhausted now. Evan had prepared something to eat which Tommy had allowed, albeit reluctantly. His supplies had almost run out and a hot porridge was definitely better for Lord Edmundo than the last crumbs of stale bread. “I am sorry Lord Thomas,” Eddie said and Tommy nodded. He’d let it slip for now but they would definitely have some words about this later. “Eddie,” Evan said lowly but not low enough that Tommy couldn’t understand him, “just how do you want to explain Sir Thomas to Bobby?”

“But how do you know?” Buck couldn’t help but ask. There was a strange kind of hope blooming in his chest. And he was afraid of allowing himself to hope. What if Tommy was wrong? But Tommy just snorted, as if Buck had said something ridiculous. “Evan,” he said, “when Chimney dragged you in I was admittedly distracted by everything that was going but it was impossible to miss that you two care about each other—” “Of course we care about each other! He’s my best friend.” “I know, Evan,” Tommy said and reached for Buck’s hand. “At first I wasn’t sure what you two were two each other and then I knew that you two are best friends but that really didn’t explain checking each other’s butt out.” Buck involuntarily grasped Tommy’s hard as he started choking on air. He sometimes looked at Eddie, okay? Eddie incredibly hot and beautiful and he was also Eddie, so Buck liked looking at him anyway. He thought he’d been careful but… “Wait?” he rasped out. “Each other?!” “Yes, Evan.” Tommy was close to smirking now. “Eddie is definitely still attracted to you.”

Then came questions about the dragon’s back (smooth, frilled, ridged or spiked) the number of limbs and finally the colour of the scales. It just went on and on until finally Buck clicked on the last button and— Nothing. The quiz told him this dragon does not exist. Did he go wrong at some point? Or was Eddie just not a natural dragon? Buck was just about to the look through the list of dragons that were smaller than a dog, according to the Dracological Society of America, when the bell went off. A fire. He picked up Eddie and headed down to the turnouts. A house fire, not too developed yet, hopefully easy to put out. Bobby gave them the rundown as they sat in the engine. And Eddie sat in Buck’s lap, as always, probably hoping that he’d get out of wearing the vest this time.

🐚 A Light on the Sea

It is quite windy when Tommy goes out for his daily walk. The waves crash high on the rocky little island that’s been his home for the past six months. So he knows better than to go down to the jetty, instead he walks along the high ridge to the far part of the island. Around him the seabirds are calling as they race through the sky. It could have been a day like any other—most days are when you work as a lighthouse keeper. But instead he hears voices. Voices. Tommy is supposed to be alone on this island. The first time he hears them he tells himself it’s a trick of the wind and his loneliness. But then he hears them again… And of course he goes to investigate. There’s not much new on the island and if Tommy is going insane then he’d rather know sooner than later. But no: there definitely are voices. Because there are people. Tommy steps around a rock and then he sees them: three persons but none of them human, though partly humanoid. They are mers and one of them is a child. And the child is stuck in a tide pool, some twenty feet away from the sea. Another mer, one with a fiery red tail, is crawling towards them while a third struggles to climb the up and onto the island. There is no beach here, no gradual slope. Just rocks worn so smooth that they offer barely a grip.

Seeing Tom interact with animals is always such a special treat because I know how much he loves and appreciates them!! <3

I know that's such an obvious statement...like, yeah, ok, tampatom12/youngeditor1999, everyone likes to interact with animals 😒🙄

At the same time, I just feel that Tom would not have done that as openly in the past, even five years ago in 2020 when he first relocated to Florida.

I love how now he feels secure, calm and confident to be more public and open about his adoration of animals, so much so that he paused on his way to the broadcasting booth to pet the official Buccaneers Rally Duck!!!

I rewatched that clip too many times to count and totally fangirled each & every time!! *insert screaming and crying and banging on the wall here*

The other thing that was a little funny about this is that Julian (Edelman)'s podcast, Games with Names, quote tweeted the Buc's post, and said the duck was asking Tom when he was gonna come onto GWN. 🥴🫠🫣😶‍🌫️🤪😅

I know Games with Names was just being silly & once again bringing up the fact about how Tom still hasn't been a guest on the show, but at the same time...!!

Give it rest over there, bros!! I feel like Tom will eventually one day come onto the show; stop publicly pestering him or else he will never join y'all!!

Little Women (2019)

An American coming-of-age period drama that chronicles the lives of the March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—in Concord, Massachusetts, during the 19th century.

Warning: Review may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

JayBell: I went into this basically knowing nothing except the actors in it. I've never read the book or seen any other adaptations of it. And it was great! It's the perfect movie to end the Christmas season and 2024.

I love the meta-commentary in the movie. The sisters even discuss and debate whether the domestic highs and lows of a family would be interesting enough to people. I could definitely sense the auto-biographical nature as the story unfolds.

Everyone has great performances, but Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh are the definite standouts for me (please give Saoirse an Oscar for her work, she's so overdue!!).

There are so many scenes that stick with me. Laura Dern's character's "I'm always angry" conversation, Emma Watson's character's romantic line to her husband (you totally know which one), Florence Pugh's character's speech in the art room, Timmy Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan's characters during the big, sad confession, and of course, Saoirse Ronan's speech to her mom at the end which communicates the overarching theme of the entire story.

I love that they give the past a golden, yellow hue as if the world is bright and beautiful. Alternatively, the present day is all blue cool tones to represent a more harsh, stark adulthood. It's less magical and more realistic. In many ways, this movie is about the nostalgia of youth and childhood.

With that said, I do think they could have done a better job with the characters' age differences from seven years ago to present day. Everyone looks almost exactly identical to their self from seven years ago. Now, it wouldn't have been good to hire different actors or anything, but was there really nothing else they could do? Like Florence Pugh is supposed to be 13 in the past. Sure, she does her part to act less mature, but she still looks much older. I don't know, I guess I expected movie magic or makeup to work miracles? Either way, it's my only gripe for an otherwise amazing movie.

Congratulations to Little Women for being our highest rated movie in 2024 (and our last one for the year)!!

Anzie: I didn’t even need to watch the movie again to write my review. Bc I’m sorry to say it miggght be a 10/10 for me. But I couldn’t go into 2025 without seeing Timmy cryyyy and I am sorry to reveal that I’m such a sicko but I love the Jo and Laurie scene where she turns him down and he cries. It does break my heart that he looks like such a baby in this. Anyway I think that Little Women is such a good movie and especially for Christmas- not only is it well acted by allllll of these amazing actors, but the story is so good even when it’s just about general domestic things like how the girls behave together. There’s honestly too much to mention like Meg with her husband and the fabric - and the old man and piano and Beth. It’s a hundred little things that make it, not just Jo’s main plot about writing her stories. There’s a lot of different messages(and so many good quotes!!)to be found and they are all really perfect for the Christmas/new years time of year. Especially that despite trying to be your own person- respecting what time we get with those we love ( love of any type) is equally important. I love too how even though it’s sad - it’s hopeful as well- and if you don’t cry at least five times watching it you’re a liar. Just calling it how it is.

17/11/24. Bonjour à tous goodness me we are midway through November and the temperatures are certainly falling quickly.

It has been a bit of a topsy turvy week for me. Monday and Tuesday, along with the dull days, I started feeling a bit down. No word from Paris and I started to ask myself why. I felt “cut off” no treatment other than transfusions for platelets, no correspondence except via the doctor in Troyes which had only been from the doctor who returned to Italy on 31 October. I had jobs I wanted to do but had no enthusiasm to do them. I guess it’s normal really, I am not the only patient but everything before has been pretty pronto.

So getting away from the beginning of the week, I woke on Wednesday bright and cheery and boy did I achieve a lot! I even went for a walk which lifted my spirits, not just because it was a lovely day. I brought the car out of the garage, checked lights and indicators before giving it a spin around the estate and putting it back into the garage.

A lovely little wren has moved into a shrub close to the house, (maybe it has been there a while) I was so pleased to see it, as I have said before I don’t put out bread, fat balls or bags of nuts as I don’t want to encourage more wildlife 🐀 or 🐁. In the garden at my home in the UK I also had a wren living there. As you may know I have birds aplenty residing in the shrubs, great tits, robin, sparrows, usually Mr and Mrs Blackbird but maybe they are on vacation as I haven’t seen them for a while, now this little wren too. I try to protect them from any marauding 🐈‍⬛ 🐈!

Anie messaged to say she had tested positive for Covid, oh what a blow but as I said last week she really didn’t look so well when I last saw her. Anyway she has now had the negative results and came to see me yesterday afternoon. I was telling her about the wren and she joked it had maybe arrived from the UK looking for me. She was also telling me about something “orange on our estate” she kept saying “soucis” although I know this word I kept thinking “souris” 🐁. Then she used another word and I realised it wasn’t two orange mice” but two orange calendulas which look as if they have been discarded from a garden and taken root on the bank to the field. I had seen them previously when in the taxi for hospital. We did laugh when she said “no not Mickey Mouse”.

When Monique was here last week, she was amazed that the iris leaves were coming through already. I had previously told friends that the remaining hellebore plant had buds on it. They were amazed. I moan about the state of my garden (sometimes) but I really do believe that I am doing something good out there. I pruned my roses back by a third in August (had read to do that) they have grown that third back and I have had a flower in October and there is a bud waiting to open in November. Houseplants, however, are a different subject although my Xmas cactus is flowering and a cactus Marie-Therese bought me, years ago, seems very happy. It has produced other cacti, one of those now has four or five babies on it. Goodness me, poor plant only gets watered when I remember. I am waiting to see if I can keep the orchid, I have never had much success with them. Going back to Monique (sorry I am easily side tracked) she has been looking after her twin granddaughters as both have been ill. Let’s hope that they are in the mend now.

On Thursday when I went shopping, I spotted a friend’s car in the car park. I saw her even before I opened the door. She stands and looks at the food, must be deciding what she will make with it before she puts it in her basket. Anyway I spoke to her and was telling her about myself and asked about her and the family, her poor mother is in a home (she lives in Finland) consequently she tries to visit as often as she can but she also understands that her children (5 and 10) find it hard to see their grandmother like that. Plus Liisa’s husband carries a gene which his sister also had and she passed away earlier in the year aged 40. So I guess she has a lot on her plate. I said I would have her pop down for a coffee and a chat soon.

Oh yes talking about people “popping down to see me”, “The Photographer” and his children are coming over to see me (oh wow)! More on that later.

Everywhere is gearing up for Xmas and I got into the “festive spirit” by finding my Xmas cards and starting to write them. Got some done then stopped.

For my family it’s been “that weekend of the year”, the time when Aunt and Uncle from London arrive for about 10 days to stay in “not so sunny Scarborough” and expect all the family to come along and stay at the weekend. It would be ok if Uncle wasn’t so maudlin, and they weren’t both a couple of old soaks. “The Photographer” took his children with him for the two nights he was staying. It was lovely because being a seaside resort, Father Christmas arrived by boat and that was on Saturday so the children saw him. “The Solicitor” and “The Recovery Coordinator” stayed over Friday night, went home Saturday afternoon and are making another flying visit today.

It’s the music section of the blog, I wonder if it’s too early for Xmas songs, well I guess it’s never too early for this one! It’s by Bruce Springfield, “Santa Claus Is Coming’ To Town” this was released as a promo disc in 1981.

I guess it is appropriate as Santa Claus did come to Scarborough Town this weekend.

The second song is by Mike Oldfield ft Maggie Reilly, It’s “Moonlight Shadow” released in 1983. However a version by Sound of Legend was released in 2024 (wow how up to date am I).

It is currently 4c and I really must have my breakfast. I am hoping that my pork chops defrost so that I can have my main meal about 2pm as my American friend is due to be coming down sometime this afternoon. Oh I was just going to go to the shop as well but as the highest temperature for the day is 7c I think I will remain at home where I am nice and warm.

US Republican Clarifies Controversial ‘Cat Bounty’! Activist Chris Rufo Has Offered $5,000 For Proof That Haitians Were Eating Pets In Ohio

Republican Activist Christopher Rufo has offered a $5,000 reward in order to fact-check claims that Haitian immigrants in an Ohio town were eating people’s pet cats, but had to amend its terms to prevent abuse.

Around 20,000 Haitian migrants have been settled in Springfield, a community of less than 60,000 between Dayton and Columbus, over the past four years.

At Tuesday’s US presidential debate, Republican candidate Donald Trump brought up the rumors that people’s pets have been going missing, and that the migrants were to blame. His running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, also said that Ohioans “have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn’t be in this country,” citing reports his office has received.

“Alright, let’s settle it: I will provide a $5,000 bounty to anyone who can provide my team with hard, verifiable evidence that Haitian migrants are eating cats in Springfield, Ohio. Deadline is Sunday. Go,” Rufo said Wednesday evening on X.

“I want to know the truth. Conservatives must be careful with the facts, and not let the narrative go beyond the evidence. Right now, the assumption is that this did not occur. But, if evidence emerges, it’s in the public interest to bring it forward,” he added.

The well-intentioned initiative had a major flaw that emerged in short order: most of the replies were people offering – seriously or in jest – to eat a cat in Springfield in order to collect the bounty.

“I’m off to Springfield, Ohio with my cat and a large pot. Five grand is five grand,” said one X user. “Does it count if we pay the Haitian migrants to eat the cat?” asked another. He was not the only one to realize that Rufo’s wording offered a “tremendous arbitrage opportunity,” in the words of one US lawyer.

It only took half an hour for Rufo to amend the terms of his bounty, noting that it “must be an incident that occurred prior to the presidential debate! No eating cats, people!”

So far, no one has come forth to provide the evidence that could qualify for Rufo’s bounty, although one of the respondents tried making the case with logic, rather than documentation.

“Ok, 1) Haitians eat cats and will tell you so themselves, 2) 20,000 Haitians were placed in Springfield, Ohio. Therefore, Haitians are eating cats in Springfield, Ohio,” argued a YouTuber by the name of ‘hoe math’. “The burden is now on you to prove that 20,000 people from a cat-eating culture suddenly magically stopped eating cats when placed on the magic dirt of the USA.”

Reports of Haitians eating wild birds and household pets disappearing have sparked a flood of political memes depicting Trump rescuing kittens and goslings from the cookpot. Meanwhile, Democrats have protested the “fake news” and insisted that accusations of cat-eating were simply racism.

1. I should say my drawings for the Gallavich Gift Exchange, seeing as it’s my first piece of fanart, and I only write fic once every three years or so lol

But GGE happened like 5 minutes ago, whereas before that I spent about 6 months working my arse off to find perfect matches for our boys for my Gallacats 🐈‍⬛🐈, and I’m still really proud of like 90% of them, and downright smug about 20% of them. Including the below. Which never got the love I felt it deserved. - I was pleased as punch when I thought of this match, and then managed to find the perfect pictures for it. - angst as fuck, sure, but clever… right?

2. A fanfic I always always always go back to is @gallavichy’s Cooperative Gameplay. However I have literally just finished re-reading that five days ago, so that will tide me over for a couple of months, hopefully! lol

So instead… I must say that after all of the hard core socialising and all of the fancy food that Christmas brought, I have been craving the peace and quite and simple pleasures of… maybe a dingy little diner? 🤔

Just this perfect place, where you get left to your own devices, have coffee, have a piece of toast, work your way up to some good food, eventually good company, and then one day you slowly fall in love… @loftec’s None The Wiser, anyone?

3. I have adored @mariemarion’s work since back in the Shadowhunters fandom, and decided - for the first time ever - to commission artwork this year. I loved the entire process, and I’m obsessed with both pieces she made for me!

I would also be remiss if I didn’t given shout out to @steorie whose sketch of Ian and Mickey’s faces is one of the first Shameless fanart that immediately made itself at home in my brain.

And that was before realising just how much colour stephi manages to pack into her pieces of art, making me wish I wasn’t such a basic pencil bitch… haha

And I’d like to send some love to @suzy-queued for her Kinktober Series. The pieces were clever, funny, silly, hot, and often downright filthy… all of which is GOOD, of course! The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021)

English artist Louis Wain rises to prominence at the end of the 19th century for his surreal cat paintings that seemed to reflect his declining sanity.

JayBell: Movies about cats are automatically considered for discussion on The Cat Chat (with the notable exception of the movie “Cats,” which you will never get me to watch), so it was a pretty easy decision to give this one a chance.

Before watching this movie, I didn’t know who Louis Wain was, and I think that’s a terrible shame. How could I have been so uncultured?

This movie surprised me in all of the best ways. It was funny, it was sad, it was sweet, it was dramatic, and lastly, it was romantic. Now I usually dread romance in movies. I practically abhor it. But the romance in this movie was just so awkward and so clumsy that I couldn’t help but love it. They were just two nerds who deserved each other. There were times where I couldn’t decide which character was more weird. I was rooting for them the whole way through, which just makes their love story that much more bittersweet (no spoilers!).

Louis Wain as he was portrayed here was talented for sure, but my god was he eccentric. You expect artists to be odd and maybe even mentally disturbed in some ways, but Louis took me by surprise. At the same time, Louis was just so lovable, sincere, and almost childlike in some ways that I couldn’t help but feel invested in the story of his life. I was sad for him, and I was worried for him.

This was a wonderful biographical film featuring the life story of a truly unique human being, and I wish more people would watch it.

Anzie: So all I knew about this movie was that the trailer annoyed me a year or so ago when it was literally the only ad I saw for like two weeks, it had Benedict Cumberbatch, cats, and maybe painting or art of some kind. I was a foooool. It’s amazing and I want Louis Wain’s ghost blessed because I have no clue how we could coincidentally give up trying to find a Fourth of July movie only to find a guy who loves cats and died on the Fourth of July ( I know he’s wasn’t American but I’m still counting it).

Biopic movie are usually not my jam, but I had no clue who Louis Wain was and this movie made me ashamed that I didn’t and even made investigate him more after. The actors were phenomenal and perfect for their roles, Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy were so awkward and cute, and instead of groaning when romance is forced into a story line - I couldn’t wait for these two to get together. Also all the actresses playing his sisters did a wonderful job of showing the chaos that would come with five sisters and Caroline needs to chill (we literally are introduced to her while she walking through the house with a chef’s knife- while there’s running children 🙀). But anywaaay the chemistry is there and especially for the main role to be performed by such a notable actor- it was quite easy to be transported into the world of Louis Wain.

And yeah as much fun we get to have in the first bit, it gets a tad sad- but such is life right?? Peter the cat deserves an award just for existing and perhaps being the best muse of the 19th century. I do wish they dived into why he was so into electricity his whole life, especially because they used it in the title of the movie, but they used the idea as a sweet antidote we get at the end of the movie that the electricity we feel in the course of life is this and that. On another note- Benedict Cumberbatch is not a believable old man, he look like an old crab shuffling around.

All in all it was a very sweet movie- that did not feel like two hours, never felt that it was dragging on incessantly- and that was because I was so fully invested and enjoying myself. And I firmly believe that Louis Wain cats need to become the internet sensation they were destined to become.

The Blair Witch Project (1999)

Three film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.

JayBell: Out of all our Halloween picks for this year, I thought this one would be the scariest by far. All I have to say is wow. Just wow.

As it turns out, most of this movie involves three annoying idiots screaming at each other in the woods for several days. It goes like this: big fight, crying, semi-jokes, big fight, more crying, and on and on and on. I’m not gonna lie. I found our three characters so annoying that I couldn’t wait for them to die. Even when they’re sad and emotional, I didn’t care about them or their fate.

I do think the idea for this film has some merit. That’s why the marketing for the film was so famously successful. The mockumentary aspect helps blur the line between reality and fiction, so the scares (hypothetically) would feel more genuine and authentic as opposed to produced. Also, shaky footage supports this anxious and unsettled feeling. However, we are supposed to believe that these are some wannabe filmmakers, yet they can’t hold a camera still to save their lives? They can’t set up a good shot or even frame a shot correctly? A five-year old could hold a camera better than that. Also, the acting wasn’t great, which takes away from the faux realism of the whole thing.

I think my biggest complaint for this movie is how it wasn’t scary at all. As a viewer, I felt safe during the scenes that take place in the day time. The scares should then come at night. However, the night scenes were incredibly short, and the scariest things that happen are faraway baby sounds and our characters running a lot. And then it’s day time again. Also, a pile of rocks is somehow the funniest death threat to me. I was expecting the entrails of animals or scratches not rock piles. And why aren’t they trying to find weapons?? Why aren’t you sharpening some spears or something?

Long story short: I did not enjoy this movie.

Anzie: I really thought this would be a lot scarier. I understand the suspense and anticipation is really what is getting the audience nervous and all that, but still- maybe 23 years ago it was absolutely terrifying but it was just kinda meh. And annoying.

Let’s just get this out of the way - they are all film students. RIGhT??? So WhY iS tHE CaMeRA SO SHAKEY?!???!! Like for reals I wanted to vomit- and I GET it it’s soooo scary. They can’t even hold a camcorder- that’s the true horror. The actors did a great job in shifting their attitudes- but my gawddd Heather was annoying. And the screaaammming and biting???? Anyway the little kid laughs weren’t too creepy but ummmm if I’m in the woods at night—— I am NOT getting out of the tent and looking.

My biggest peeve is just how everything scary and creepy does happen in the last five minutes- and really connects the different scary aspects of the movie, whether it be the witch or whatever is actually going on to the group.

Uggg I’m just grateful it was semi short- but really could’ve been like 30 minutes if we’re being honest.
