I might regret posting it so soon after finishing it but I'm excited to share it :) Finn's in "can't-move-'cause-there's-a-cat-on-your-lap-except-the-cat-is-your-friend/boss-that-randomly-turned-into-a-dragon-and-now-she's-clingy-as-heck" mode.

First of all, this is NOT a ship art, and please do not tag as such. More about it bellow the cut (+ a bonus doodle).

I really like Finn and Bonnie's friendship, it's really beautiful if you stop to think about it, which I won't get into details right now 'cause if I did that would be a really long post, but I can think of two examples on the top of my head: the fact that their friends from another lifetime, with Bonnie having been friends with Shoko, and the fact that one of the first and last scenes of the whole series is between the two of them. Anyway, Finn's probably Bonnie's closest friend (not counting Marcy 'cause they're girlfriends nor Peppermint Butler 'cause she made him), and if when she's in dragon mode she doesn't have the same inibitions she used to, so I can imagine her acting way more affectionate than usual (plus, the fact that she can't talk or do things for other people could lead to her finding other ways to connect with the people she loves). Finn wasn't quite sure of what to do when she first started doing these kinds of things, but as time went by he became really amused by it and started seeing her kind of like a pet, but not in a bad way, more in a "I'll play with you and cuddle and pet you and not gonna think about the fact that you're normally my boss" way. They both have a lot of fun when they get to hang out (which is pretty often, they don't want Marcy to feel overwhelmed by looking after dragon Bonnie by herself, so their friends are always around).

Don't know how many people have seen it but I made a drawing with a similar concept before, but I deleted it 'cause I changed my mind about when this au is set and also because I knew I could do a better job now :) and I really enjoy drawing dragon Bonnie.

Pairing: Romantic

Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling (A section mentions female anatomy, however. This section is in pink), Obsession, Age gap, Possessive behavior, Manipulation, Abuse of power, Lucid yandere, Stalking, Marriage, Mentions of wanting/having children/baby trapping, Isolation, Dubious (forced) relationship.

In an alternate timeline where Enji decides to start anew from his old family, I can see him hesitate for once when he finds a new obsession.

After all, it's clear he's been horrible with relationships in the past.

He's only ruined his kids lives, same thing for his wife.

He probably doesn't even think he'll love again.

Then you come into his life, just about as annoying as Hawks, yet make him feel funny.

It's a familiar warmth... and he dreads it.

You're a new pro hero which means he's going to be dealing with you a lot.

This leaves him conflicted as now he'll have a harder time to suppress the burning warmth in him when he looks at you.

You're younger than him, at least half his age if not a bit older, he knows it would be unprofessional to do anything.

The good news, after his original family and the retirement of All-Might, he's much better than he was.

Unfortunately, if you ever got too close, old habits may make themselves known.

There's times you're so bratty... yet he knows it's just because you're young.

You're overconfident, yet you have a decently strong quirk.

Enji wants to be better, part of him even wants another chance at love, but doing it here would be poor choice.

You look up to him, something he both enjoys yet pities.

Which is why he'd probably stay quiet about his newest obsession for a long time.

He doesn't want to ruin your life.

You have promise, you don't need him to ruin everything.

At the same time... He worries he won't be able to hold back the longer you're around him.

To talk about Enji in general, he's a possessive yandere.

Even when he leaves his old family behind to make them happy, he'd still be bad with you.

Enji no doubt eventually would want to marry his obsession just to be able to show everyone you're his.

He knows marriage didn't go well for him before... but when he looks at you, he can't help but want others to know you're his.

That he's picked you.

To add onto that, if you have a womb... Enji would no doubt try to put a child in it.

I personally believe this man has a thing for strong successors.

Based on past behavior, that is.

So, if you were capable of having kids, Enji would eventually want that.

At first he'd be against it, knowing how his last four kids went, but the thought of giving you his kid...

It just makes him think it's another way to show you're his.

Even after losing his original family he's still possessive.

Old habits die hard, too bad you are on the receiving end.

Enji no doubt tries to be better.

He doesn't want a repeat of Rei.

He doesn't want to hurt this second chance, maybe he's just lonely but...

He wants to make you happy if you're involved with him, it's not like All-Might is in the picture anymore.

Enji may not even suggest a Quirk marriage in this case, perhaps this one he'll take his time with.

But your quirk is an added bonus as a fellow pro hero.

Enji tries his best to stay away and help you from afar.

He shouldn't have you, he doesn't deserve you, he can't ruin another...

Yet you grow close to him and he's trying to put a wildfire out.

I feel most pro heros would take a subtle manipulative approach towards their obsessions.

Things like coaxing their obsession into being involved with them.

Enji would try to stay away from it more due to past experiences.

But you just know he'll snap and start being closer with you.

It's no doubt an abuse of power due to his seniority.

Which is what makes it so manipulative.

You're both skilled heroes and you may even find dating the Endeavor flattering.

At first you think there's nothing wrong.

Completely unaware that being around Enji can get you burned.

Enji doesn't want to keep things hidden when he manages to date you.

He wants other heroes to know he's dating you.

That way no one else can sabotage him.

He wants people to know you for dating him.

When dating you he tries his best to be more amicable.

He doesn't try to hurt you, he's learned.

He's possessive and easily irritated when people bring you up... but never blames you.

He probably buys you what you want, even if you have the money as a hero.

He remembers certain aspects about you, even does it before you're dating.

Enji tries to hold himself back from marriage, but he may use it as another way to show you're his.

It's like a flex to him to say you're engaged. (even if you're not... but that's okay, he can change that.)

Plus, when he eventually gets you to marry him, it feels euphoric to slip on that ring.

He's admittedly nervous to ruin his second chance... which means he does his best to tend to you, even when he has work.

He wants to make things better.

If he notices you're falling out of love with him, or if you notice his more toxic behavior... he distracts you.

Others pity the relationship you two have, even if you are well cared for.

Most of his old family pity you, while Dabi finds it laughable Enji found someone else to torment.

Enji doesn't seem to care about the backlash.

As long as you love him, as long as he has that chance, as long as you're his...

Everyone else can burn.

Speaking of burns, early Enji may have used burns to mark his darling.

This time he refrains from that... but the thought is tempting.

Although... anything to show his mark on you couldn't be that bad, right?

He may not kidnap, but he'd definitely manipulate you into staying with him.

By the time the rose tinted glasses are off, you're in too deep.

If you can have children, you may even already be with child before you realize this... might've been a trap.

Enji likes to show ownership over his obsession.

While he may be caring with you, he's still controlling.

You're no longer your own person, perhaps even forced to give up being a hero.

You're his partner, you'll be known as his partner...

Enji doesn't plan on letting you leave, he'll use whatever means he deems necessary to keep you with him.

He'll lock you away, he'll bribe you, he'll baby trap you... anything.

I don’t think they’d be bad for each other, I just think Ven would feel out of his depth yk? Their communication type wouldn’t clash badly, they’d both be able to argue without killing one another, but they just dont click?

I just think Ven would be intimidated? and that should be a dealbreaker in any relationship.

Caspian

6/10: Smash

Caspian would be the cool ex that you still see sometimes in random places, and you stop for 10-15 min to see how he’s doing, before you both leave and forget about each other again.

Cas would keep Ven’s bossy streak in check, and they’d sort out their problems together well. They have aligning interests in knowledge and writing, and overall they’d work.

… there’s only room for one self-sacrificing idiot in this relationship.

Opposite of Rae; Centross is Ven’s type, personality-wise. Also Centross does the love-bickering thing that Ven and Feng would do. They communicate well, they’d argue healthily, over all they’d be pretty good tbh. The sleep schedule between the two of them would be bad though, Ven would forget to stop work and Centross would do the same, they’d forget to check in with each other.

Rae

3/10: Pass (edit, was 2/10 but i raised it by 1 for Zenni the beloved)

you already know what i’m gonna say about these goobers. they’re terrible for each other

the interesting thing to me; there’s only two reasons for Ven to date Rae. 1) they’re young, and social norms say you should date someone similar to you. So both Vena and Rae would go “he likes what i like” and call it a day. OR 2) Rae would be a rebound for Ven. neither of which can happen in canon. (i love the band au blorbos <3)

Seven

4/10: Pass

they wouldn’t be bad, Ven just wouldn’t know how to approach Seven? Seven has so much going in, and Ven would need to know every detail about Seven’s past in order to feel comfortable in the relationship. Seven can’t really give that, so the relationship is over before it’s begun.

Ulysses

7/10: Smash

Similar to Caspian, they’d get along, they’d be good exes. Ven would learn a lot academically from Ulysses.

Will

4/10: Pass

Based on the emotional reactions seen in the spy arc of S2, I don’t think these two would get along. i actually think Ven would get on Will’s nerves in close proximity, if he were to open up and let Will in emotionally. Not that it’d be Will’s fault, they just clash. They would have common interests though, so all wouldn’t be lost.

Will would speak his mind, whilst Ven clams up and avoids conflict, but they’d get around to communicating eventually. (so they’re def not the worst pairing on this list.)

Wolf

…9/10: Smash

ok hear me out, you haven’t seen the half of it in canon yet, but these two work well. They have a lot in common (that i can’t share yet)

they argue so well, maybe even better than Feng and Ven did. Where Feng would speak up with Ven, Wolf sits and listens and waits.

Wolf is Ven’s type physically,tall with long hair and broad shoulders, and comes close to his type in personality.

- Ale wanted to reach out to Rudy after he got a stable position in the cartel BUT Rudy have already joined special forces by then and was unreachable to Ale's dismay

- Alejandro looked for him everywhere, but there was no trace; Ale assumed Rudy was dead

- Alejandro and his Los Vaqueros are known for their ruthlessness toward narcos and anyone affiliated to them

- Las Almas Cartel under influence of Rodolfo takes more softer approach; Rodolfo opposed to harboring terrorist Hassan in Las Almas and had a LOUD fight with Valeria

- This affected his status within the cartel and later led to betrayal; someone from the cartel tipped Alejandro off Rudy's location which ultimately led to Rudy's capture

- Rudy's cross necklace was Alejandro's gift when Rudy turned 18, 'mi sol' is engraved on the back side (he wanted to comfort Rudy)

- Rudy threw everything away when he chose to live as a sicario, but he couldn't throw away the cross and his memories with Alejo

- Rudy doesn't talk much, always a silent shadow behind Valeria, but when he is forced to he is bitter and sarcastic.

- After Rudy was caught by Alejandrp and Los Vaqueros, he was taken to their base to be interrogated, where he would not answer to any questions and only try to piss Alejandro off mentioning their childhood and how it's now meaningless to him

- Alejandro punched him; couldn't help himself; and gets to this hyper uh... fucked up state where he is just confused by hate, guilt, nostalgia and LOVE

Reading through the file that Detective Kim left on your desk, two interesting things pop out at you, the first being that some of the photos of the man called Vante look different than the others. You didn't notice it at first, but upon closer inspection, you realize that photos of him that seem older – ones where he has natural dark brown hair and ones where he has bright red hair – seem personal. 

Vante is smiling directly into the camera in these old photos, with an expression that you would describe as being soft – almost loving. His posture is relaxed in each photo, whether sitting at a table at a café or leaning against the side of a car. You wonder if Seokjin took these photos, and if not, how he managed to get his hands on them, because the photos of Vante with blue and blond hair are all surveillance images or those taken from social media profiles that have since been deleted. 

The second detail you notice is that in two of the shots where Vante has blue hair, there is a woman with him who shares striking similarities with you. Although you are unable to clearly see her face in the photos, her hair, build, and height all seem to resemble you, and your side profiles are similar to the extent that you wonder if you could convince someone that you are the one pictured with him. 

In one of the images containing your doppelgänger, Vante's arm is slung over her shoulder and he is speaking with Min. The three of them are in a crowded bar with what looks like colorful makeup all over their faces, and although you can only see Vante's expression clearly, it seems he is flirting with Min, or at least openly showing an attraction to him. 

This detail, paired with Seokjin's not-so-subtle suggestion that you may consider becoming closer than just friends with Min makes you wonder if the two men are an open couple. Especially considering your resemblance to the woman in the photos, you wonder if you were chosen for this mission based on credentials alone, or if your resemblance to someone from their past was partly to blame for your sudden promotion into the Special Investigations Division. 

Perhaps it should bother you that you may have advanced partly based on your looks, but this mission is so intriguing that it fills you with excitement to learn more. You wonder if the two of them got married out of love or convenience – a ploy to allow Min to get a work visa and any other benefits that could allow them to more easily escape from whatever they seem to be running from. 

Both men are absolutely stunning, and you wonder if that woman pictured ever got to enjoy both of them – together or separately. You wonder what it must have been like for her and where she might be right now. Despite Seokjin's warning not to get close to these two, the urge to know more grows.

How could these two men be so dangerous? What have they done to cause Seokjin to form a super secret, super tight task force to hunt them down? And why is he unwilling to just tail Min and confront Vante, himself?

Quickly, you fire off an email to Min, asking about his tutoring services, posing as a student named Sandra. Then you return to rereading their files and memorizing their faces. Min with his somewhat sleepy, somewhat grumpy expressions that brighten into something soft and inviting when he smiles. Vante with his rectangular smile and piercing eyes that either hide all emotion or express so much that he appears positively captivating. 

You read and reread the bullet point list describing these men in an attempt to piece together what kind of people they must present themselves as. You wonder who assisted with creating their profiles, and whether it may have been old friends or even the woman who resembles you. 

Both men are dishonest and extremely disloyal; both exhibit an unshakable poker face that even those close to them cannot read.

[Redacted][Code name Min] is soft-spoken and an interesting mix of contemplative and impulsive; does not take no for an answer. [Redacted][Code name Vante] exhibits similar traits but is much more forward and promiscuous, willing to use sex as a weapon.

Both men get what they want with little to no concern for the outcome, even if it means the death or displacement of others.

Both men only seem loyal to one another, but that may also be a façade. [Redacted][Code name Vante] may be the more volatile of the two, should one turn on the other, but it is likely that [Redacted][Code name Min] has a mean streak that few have witnessed firsthand.

[Redacted][Code name Vante] is cold and calculating; always ten steps ahead.

[Redacted][Code name Vante]'s family is well-connected and seem willing to cover up anything he does.

Is it likely that [Redacted][Code name Vante] is the mastermind of all of their schemes and that [Redacted][Code name Min] tags along for one reason or another.

It is possible that [Redacted][Code name Min] has insecurities that [Redacted][Code name Vante] easily controls and manipulates.

Your phone lights up with a notification, pulling you from the paperwork and surprising you with how quickly Min has gotten back to you about tutoring services. And as you open the notification, you realize your seemingly easy mission might just be a little more complicated than you hoped. 

Undeterred, you begin to improvise. If Vante uses sex as a weapon, perhaps you can create several Tinder and Hinge accounts and attempt to find him online. One benefit to going undercover is having access to a seemingly endless supply of burner phones. 

You have absolutely no doubt that someone like Vante is using hookup apps if his profile depicts him accurately. If he and Min are married for love over convenience, there is a strong chance that he is still willing to be unfaithful. Or, perhaps the two of them are not monogamous, and finding one of them on a hookup app will likely be due to one or both of them looking for a good time. 

The prospect of getting to know them this way is risky since they are both gorgeous and apparently too cunning to resist, but it may be faster than waiting a month or more for Min's private lessons to open.

Swiping on dating apps is tedious work, and you almost feel guilty for spending your precious hours this way. Despite it being the weekend, you are paid for your time, and right now your time is spent scouring dating profiles looking for one man. 

You swipe with one hand and brush your teeth with the other, eyes barely open and still heavy with sleep. You swipe as soon as you step on line for your favorite macchiato at your favorite little café two blocks from your Chelsea apartment, and you swipe as you sit in your favorite window seat, sipping on the perfectly bittersweet warm drink while the morning sun warms your cheeks. 

As you reread the file on Min and Vante over lunch, you take breaks to swipe, and you even find yourself genuinely reading through some Tinder profiles before snapping out of it and ridding yourself of distraction. Sure, you may be single and somewhat curious to mingle, but something tells you that you are going to have your hands absolutely full once you manage to get ahold of one of these men, so adding another person to the equation feels too messy.

Later on, when your best friend Josie convinces you to leave the house because it is Saturday and you need to, as she says, "Unwind and find some cuties to dick you down," you swipe in the cab ride over and resist the urge to swipe while waiting on line for drinks at the bar.

Part of you wonders whether you could run into Min at a place like this. Bright neon lights filling the space with college students scantily clad and alcohol buzzing through them, turning them into horny little monsters. If he is professional – or upholding a façade of professionalism for the sake of his current persona – then it is likely he would not be caught dead in a place like this. You are somewhat certain that Vante likely scours these types of clubs, but alas, he is in Milan.

Some of the photos of Min from their file show him on stage with a band, playing keyboard with a guitar slung over his shoulder, with a face full of glitter and makeup. The vibe of that bar differs from this one, but the rambunctious energy is more similar to what you observe in recent surveillance footage photos. You wonder if any part of that man bleeds through now, or if he only indulges in classically accepted forms of music as a tutor. 

Min must be good with his hands – a thought that spirals the more your mind is allowed to wander back to the photos of him playing two very different instruments at once. You need to stop thinking about the beautiful, dangerous men – monsters, as Seokjin put it – and focus on being out with your best friend. 

Josie is a bubbly ray of sunlight with a matching warm smile. Purple braids cascade over her shoulders and down her back, she wears a cute little black dress that barely contains her curves, and she stomps and dances excitedly in knee-high black leather boots. Her round cheeks and button nose make Josie the cutest person in all of Manhattan, and pretty shimmery pink and purple makeup stands out against her tan skin, making her dark brown eyes shine.

You are outfitted similarly with a tight black tee tucked into a black denim skirt, cleavage on full display. You wear black combat boots with warm, fuzzy black socks, and enough makeup to make your eyes pop, including a light dusting of pink and purple courtesy of Josie. 

"I'm getting fucked!" Josie shouts over the reggaetón track, bouncing her hips to the beat while the two of you lean against the wooden bar top. Her voice is rich and somewhat nasally as she shouts, with a quick lilt to her accent. 

"Fucked up?" you shout back, unsure whether you misheard your friend, delighted when her smile widens and she says, "Yeah, that too!" 

Being that this is a college bar that happens to throw somewhat over the top ladies night events, you flash your student ID as well as the fake ID that identifies you as a woman named Sandra as soon as the bartender comes by. 

You need not do so, however, because the bartender, whose name is Daniel in some circles and Changkyun in others, recognizes you, giving you a slow, hungry once-over with his eyes that makes your heart pound. Then he flashes a pointed smile and leans against the bar top so that he can easily be heard when his soft, deep voice asks, "Ladies, to what do I owe the pleasure?"

Before you can open your mouth, Josie leans over the bar and shouts, "Two Long Islands!"

As soon as Daniel nods and turns away to get started on your drinks, Josie hip-checks you, causing you to stumble and turn to her with a wide, curious expression. You know what she is going to say before she even says it – "You need to hook up with him!" – and you are already shaking your head before the words come out. 

"He's just doing his job," you argue, because this is not the first time Josie has pointed out the way he looks at you, or how he seems more attentive to you than to literally any other patron. Yes, you are in denial, but now is not the time to get tangled up with the sexy bartender.

"You're full of shit!" Josie manages to shout before Daniel is back.

He sets your drinks down, nodding politely to Josie before fixing you with an intent gaze and giving a shy little smile. "This round is on the house," he says so softly that you don't really hear it, only knowing the words because you have memorized the shape of his lips when he says them.

Daniel has a bit of a baby face, with wide, dark almond eyes and pretty, soft lips. His nose and cheekbones are all hard angles, however, and his short dark hair, which is parted down the middle, falls around his eyes and down to the apples of his cheeks, only accentuating his features more. Much like your targets, he has dual citizenship between the US and Korea, hence having two names that he goes by – something some but not all dual citizens might do.

"Thanks, Danny," you say with a wink, making Daniel's eyes widen before he stands up straight. 

"My pleasure, ladies," he responds, looking to Josie and then back at you. The moment he is out of earshot, Josie groans. 

"Why don't you make a move on him?" you ask before she has a chance to hound you more. You lift your drink and take the thin black straw between your teeth, chewing lightly on it as you walk away from the bar, through the growing crowd, toward the dancefloor. 

"Don't be stupid!" Josie finally responds when you find a place on the outer edge of the dancing mass of bodies. "He looks at you like he wants to eat you. Just let him!"

You roll your eyes and shake your head, chuckling. Around you, college students dance and shout, clearly far too drunk already for how early it is. As you take your first sip of your drink, it rocks through you; even the smallest taste of the Long Island iced tea is strong as hell, making you wince despite its sweetness. 

"I don't miss being that young and irresponsible," Josie says, leaning over a tall round table that you have found to perch your elbows against, gazing out at the mass of students.

Josie works in the Forensic Investigation Division. Whenever a crime scene is processed and evidence is gathered, she is the one testing it to match it to information in the various systems in search for DNA, blood type, fingerprints, fibers, and so on. Her work is used in court to solve and defend cases. "It is absolutely bonkers being back in college," you respond, withholding the detail that you are not really a student because Josie is aware of the very basics of your assignment. "Their problems seem so silly compared to the shit we see at work."

Josie nods listlessly as she scans the throng of dancing bodies, more or less distracted from the conversation. And as you follow her gaze, you see who she has zeroed in on. 

There is a man on the dancefloor surrounded by a group of friends, and he looks a lot like your superior Seokjin. He is not your superior, of course, but the resemblance is certainly enough to catch your friend's attention, as her crush on your boss is nothing short of sickening. 

"Shit," you shout over the raucous music, leaning toward Josie. "I forgot to feed the anaconda before I left."

Josie nods her head in slow, lackadaisical movements, and you shake your head; even complete nonsense won't get her attention when she is this focused, but you continue for fun, anyway.

"There goes all the neighborhood pets! His appetite is insatiable."

A pause follows before Josie, who turns her face toward you but keeps her eyes on the Seokjin lookalike, mutters, "Totally," drawing the word out nice and slow.

Ordinarily, you would lay into your friend a little harder, making your story a little more fantastical, but you take the opportunity to pull out your phone and continue on your mission. Vante is not going to swipe on himself, and now that you have paid for Tinder gold and can see everyone who has swiped right on you, you are certain that your search is only going to get easier.

It takes around thirty-two hours of frequent swiping with three burner phones all showcasing similar profiles with a similar name to find a man who looks like Vante. And, as Seokjin predicted, he goes by the name V.

It takes four more hours for him to message you. The entire time your hand itches toward your phone, eager to make the first move, but you want to see the way he operates, and you want him to think he has full control.

Just as Seokjin predicted, he is 4,000 miles away – which tracks because he is in Milan until the end of the week – and he is using photos that only show part of his face. Luckily, his mouth is distinguishable.

For your part, on one of the profiles you created, you chose photos that you think resemble the girl in the photos in Vante and Min's case file, also only showing parts of your face. And you are not at all surprised when that particular profile is the one he seems drawn to. It makes you wonder if he saw any of the other profiles that you created or not. 

You stare at the screen uncertain whether your flirting is all just part of the plan or if you really would like to find out just how well Vante lives up to his promises of not squandering an opportunity for pleasure. He is extremely forward and, to your surprise, it gives you butterflies. 

Ordinarily, men speaking this way moments after you first meet would be a red flag, but for some reason, the assignment of getting close to Vante adds to the intrigue – daresay it excites you a little. 

All of this feels dangerous. But you have never been one to turn down the chance to play with fire.

Part Chao AU

Sonic Boom AU

In this AU, Shadow has one more trick up his sleeve as the ultimate life form. He already can’t be ended by several things, but when he realizes that there’s no escaping death, his “unconscious” part of the brain uses chaos energy to send him somewhere safe. Once he’s there, he lays down and curls up. An egg shell forms around him, just like a chao.

Inside the egg, his “old” body dies and breaks down for a “new” one to rebuild. Shadow’s new body is downsized to what looks like a 6 to 8 year old version of himself to make it easier for his body to when he hatches.

The process takes about 6 to 8 weeks. Warm to moderate temperatures are best for the process. In colder weather, the process will take longer because the chaos energy, which is largely responsible for the process, will also have to work on heating Little Shadow from the inside.

Once he’s out, Little Shadow doesn’t have a lot of memories. He knows how to speak Portuguese, his first language, and how to walk. He has a grasp on how to understand things and can put things together quickly for someone his age.

However, he doesn’t remember much from his past. He doesn’t remember what happened, but a part of his brain keeps a good idea of who’s “safe” and who’s not based off who he recognized as good or bad at the time of the incident, so he may be scared of whatever or whoever he considered the enemy when he became so hurt. This is why Little Shadow had conflicted feelings about Team Sonic.

Before he turned into an egg, he was still rivals with Sonic, but really thinking about how he and his friends help people (like he used to) and wondered if he was in the wrong.

Little Shadow wanted to trust them, but was hesitant and unsure if it was safe, so he just followed them at a distance at first. When they offered friendship (and food), he would flinch back if he thought they were going to hit him, but eventually got used to them. Once he learns to trust them, things really turn around in the long run.

Occasionally, he’d suddenly feel like he did something wrong. This is from when he realized he was in the wrong as an “adult”. Little Shadow would hug the nearest member and apologize over and over. When asked why, he replied honestly and said that he didn’t know, but he feels like he did something to hurt them and wants to apologize.

Another example of him not remembering what happened, but feeling the effects are loud noises. Specifically sudden banging noises. Little Shadow is terrified of them and starts searching for some kind of threat. He has to be near someone because he thinks they’re in danger and being near them brings him the comfort of knowing that they’re okay and that he can “protect them”. Thunderstorms aren’t fun at all for him.

Here’s two more examples because I really like this idea, okay?

Sticks took the longest to gain Little Shadow’s trust. He just kept feeling like he had to hide from her. This is because as an adult, Shadow saw and heard her rants about aliens coming to invade and do sick things. Being part alien, Shadow came to the conclusion that she was the last being he wanted to tell. He didn’t want to deal with endless questions and traps being littered everywhere on the island.

As an adult, it was more of an annoying inconvenience. As a child, it’s scary because he doesn’t remember what he doesn’t want her to know or why.

Little Shadow doesn’t trust Eggman. In fact, he pretty much hates him. End of story.

Shadow was lied to by Eggman and because he jumped to attack Sonic for something the blue hedgehog didn’t actually do (just Sonic in this AU), he’s really unhappy with him. By now, his patience with being lied to is very short, so no second chances either.

With Little Shadow, it’s on sight. Despite his small size, he’s surprisingly strong, and has punched Eggman across the room more than once. He will bite if Eggman tries to grab him. Little Shadow just has this constant suspicion of him and strongly dislikes him. He doesn’t believe a word he says.

He’s not sure why his instincts are like this, but he’s not arguing with them this time. Not when Eggman keeps hurting people.

Because Shadow was stupid enough to believe him at the time, Little Shadow apologizes after every Eggman fight. This time, he apologizes for thinking Eggman could be trusted. He’s not sure when he did or what about, just that he did and it was a lie.

Over the course of three months, Little Shadow will slowly get flashbacks. Viewing the Earth from space behind glass. Syringes being poked into his skin. Blaring alarms and a red hallway going dark. A human girl calmly carrying him down a white hall humming a tune. People in white coats cutting him to test his regeneration skills.

A bat calling him “honey”. A small creature that looked like him, but with small wings and a red ball on its head. A large robot helping him up. Being put in some kind of clear tube. Flashing red and blue lights. A feeling of longing for a home he can’t remember when he looks up at the stars.

Once these three months are up, Little Shadow will feel really sleepy and find a safe place to curl up and turn into an egg again. Another 4 to 6 weeks later and Shadow comes out as an adult. He remembers everything, including the time Team Sonic spent looking after him this time around. He remembers what they said, and what they really meant with some of the things they said.

Shadow is really considering trusting them now. He doesn’t want to approach them, though. He doesn’t know how. He hasn’t talked about something like that in many, many, many years. One might say… decades.

However, if he were to end up in the same situation again, perhaps going to Sonic and his friends wouldn’t be a bad idea…

Hi @lesquatrechevrons !! Your tags often make my day, so this seems very fitting. I’d be happy to answer questions! (Hoho thank you for noticing — it is indeed a predilection; I love most drifting particle effects quite a lot.) ;)

Ooof. The rendering itself, without question. It is difficult to explain, but usually my rendering is a bit more blur effect with up to three colors, with very little painstaking detail work. In the piece you reference, by contrast, almost every part of Rex has been rendered by use of a pencil-tool and very fine blurring. In most of my pieces I will only have a few layers for base colors and lighting, and then quite a lot of layers for accents to the piece or detail work. For this one, almost all of my layers were several coats of ‘paint’ layered on top of each other, like a classical acrylic or oil painting, as I went back to adjust lighting for each part at least twice with a completely new application of color.

Does it fit within the ‘RepGar armour AU’, or were you thinking of a specific Rex feel (especially as it’s the companion to Cody’s rain piece)?

Good question! Like Cody’s companion piece, it was separate from that AU, supposed to be a character-study view with themes inspired by this song and SW canon. The theme of falling leaves, golden petals, and the symbolism of comparing them to the lives of warriors striving and falling and striving overtop each other with weary feet and doomed by the narrative/reduced to being seen as inconsequential (especially given all the golden leaves/petals are identical) seemed appropriate for Rex in particular to be meditating on. The piece would only fit within the AU by accident, because they don’t directly contradict each other so they’re technically compatible.

Were you listening to something while illustrating?

I very often do (I am incredibly vibe-focused whilst in creative mode) but usually it’s just the background-type music, very vibey and mood-setting. This time it was the above song, for sure, but also Space Man by Eurielle and Tokyo Rain by Marcus Warner.

Hoho — a very fun question, and one I’m still working on in the written fic for the RepGA AU. They do meet, and it is a mess, but like everything in that AU I try to focus on there being a point to the pain, and there will definitely be a happy ending. There is conflict surrounding how both of them have changed since they last met, including what they’ve since heard about the other.

As I’ve mentioned in pieces here and there, Fives ends up on Fox’s side of an altercation between the Republic itself and a revolutionary group (essentially the Rebellion, but jumpstarted by a Rogue Marshall Commander CC-1010 and all the resources he has been collecting to do precisely this for the latter duration of his command on Coruscant). This would all be well and good, but the GAR is still serving the Republic. So Rex and Fives, among others, find themselves on opposite sides of some battlefields — and both with very understandable reasons for being there, which is much more difficult to reconcile.

Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back - (kyouhaba) everyone has superpower abilities!! i always love aus like this so it’s not a surprise it’s one of my favorites. it also touches on mental health in the form of kyoutani doing too much for people when he doesn’t need to and always sacrificing himself for others even when it makes him unhappy. it’s so good tho if you ever decide to read it because it is a bit long

rewrite the stars - (kuroken) arranged marriage au where kenma and kageyama are going to get married but by the end they realize that they are marrying the wrong people and its so cute seeing kenma come to that realization

The Frog in the Well - (midotaka) it has been a while since i read this fic but i do remember laughing about this and just thinking it was overall cute especially with the whole aspect of being a loose retelling of “The Frog-King” and i know two other people who also read this and thought it was cute so there’s that

The Witch in the Tower - (murahimu) this is from the same series and author as the previous knb fic i recommended because this fic is also based around a fairy tale and i found this really cute because they are kinda domestic in this fic since there’s just an adopted child in a tower… anyway

Feels Like Winning - (murahimu) just some soulmate au for them because murasakibara not knowing how to deal with feelings <3

Only with You - (kikasa) a cute fic for this surprisingly underrated ship! it’s not too long but encompasses these idiots’ relationship in this fic perfectly

but yes i can give u some of my thoughts on these guys >:)

adding a read more bc it got a little long whoopsie

ok so first off! my sexuality + gender hcs for them;

- kinji is transmasc and nonbinary (they/he) and he's gay (mlm, nblm, nblnb), his identity causes him some distress due to his role in the church and his father being generally unaccepting of queer identities (he also hides his true identity when at home, hopes peak is the first time hes publicly himself)

- teruya is agender (he/him) and gay as well, he does not struggle with his identity, but he did take a while to realize he only liked boys/non-women. he rly thought his dad wanted him to marry a woman, but it turns out his dad is very pan and doesnt care who he dates as long as hes happy :)

ive got a couple different scenarios that i have different scenarios based on what happens in them and ill just list some stuff from all of em

firstly the general stuff that happens no matter what !

- teruya is initially appealing to kinji simply because he's loud but not in your face about it (usually), kinji also really respects that teruya stands very firm on his beliefs

- teruya also has a really good memory, so he remembers gifts and things that kinji likes, he just gives him stuff he likes every now and then, and kinji finds it really sweet

- teruya also makes silly accessories for kinji, theyre all tacky and rainbow themed but he doesnt mind :)

- they both really enjoy healthy food so they end up bonding over that

- kinji eventually gets adopted into teruyas friend group (haru, satsuki, kiyoka), they got along in the gambling extra event (minus kiyoka), so i think theyd be friends!

- kinji ends up close with kiyoka who can see right through him, she KNOWS he likes teruya, but she wont pressure him (too much)

- also teruya just thinks that kinji is so pretty :)

next up is the stuff i have for the ch 3 survivor au (i will get/have gotten to a lot of this in art, so ill probably have less here)

- teruya is initially stuck with kinji because he is the only one who has medical knowledge (they say this ingame), and due to this he ends up being the closest with kinji

- despite teruyas lil breakdown in ch 4, kinji still ends up defending him in the trial due to having gone through something similar previously, and this is kinda when it clicks for real that teruya might like kinji more than he thought

- they both bond over how much they value family, teruya with his dad and kinji with the church kids being the most valued people in their lives. they both respect this about each other immensely over it

- teruya and kinji grow closer after being kind of outcasted in ch 5. teruya had recently lost his two friends, and tsurugi, rei, akane, yuki, and mikako are either standoffish, not willing to get close, or out of commission for one reason or another. they get much closer in this chapter

- they dont actually become a thing until after they escape

now i have stuff that happened if there was no killing game

- without the killing game, they would just be more of acquaintances longer, since the game isnt there to push them to interact

- eventually kinji is the first to realize he does like teruya, and this causes Internal Religious Conflict for him. being a catholic priest means that you cannot love anyone above anyone else your love must be equal. along with this, if kinji chooses to stop being a priest while in high school, he will no longer be able to attend hope's peak, as he would basically be giving up his title.

- kinji suffers from religious trauma, despite the fact that he finds comfort in his religion. this is because most of the guilt weighing on him is caused by his father, so they are rather estranged.

- this trauma isnt something thats fixed relatively easily, but to keep it short, teruya does eventually try to help him become his own person and cope with the trauma. teruya's free spirit really helps this.

- after graduation, kinji would likely prefer to be a pastor over a priest so he can have more freedom with romance.

- he also ends up working at otori mart with teruya, and they have a lil garden together at their home :)

one more extra thing! topic of marriage and kids!

- in any au where kinji lives, so like all of the above, teruya is intending to ask kinji to marry him, its just whether or not the killing games happening defines if he gets to or not

- when they do marry, kinji takes teruya's last name

- in a very specific branch of the kinji survivor au, which i call foundation baby au (this au hinges on mikado never starting the sdra2 killing game), kinji and teruya have a child (through a surrogate mother, setsuka!) named Takara!

- teruya wants to be a good dad like his father, and kinji already likes to take care of children, so its only natural that theyd want one of their own

- Takara calls teruya "papa" and kinji "daddy"

- they raise takara in a way where they can choose their identity and whether or not they believe in religion. takara has found out that they identify as nonbinary and gay (like fathers like child) and that they do want to take part in kinji's religion, they just dont do it as much

- takara interacts with everyone at the kisaragi foundation in some way, theyre like their big mostly-happy family!

- kinji and teruya are very good parents!!

I'm wondering how the established rivalries and such happened in the Imaginary Friends AU.

Can see the twins getting jealous when Mikey makes friends with Todd; that's their little brother, but, also....this guy is really nice???

And how would the conflict with the Purple Dragons go? It's not like April's gonna be calling Donnie to help with schoolwork.

I think the twins would get pretty jealous of Todd, or at least suspicious of him? Donnie more than Leo simply of how they're introduced to him (the "Repo Mantis" episode is a very Donnie and Mikey centric episode, and it would stay that way for this au. The biggest change being that Mikey keeps accidentally coercing Donnie into doing a lot of the cannon shenanigans b/c Donnie has little to no immunity to little brother puppy dog eyes lol. also that Hueso is freaking out in the background b/c one of his the twins is missing for three days! and the other one keeps just telling him "he's fine" and not explaining!) So Donnie is very adamant that there's something suspicious about Todd, Leo joins him b/c there is no way anyone can be this nice. In reality Donnie just wants an excuse to not like him b/c he was stealing his brotherly bonding time lol.

As for the Purple Dragons, i think that situation would be completely reworked for Donnie. He's still going to end up with a pretty big rivalry with the Purple Dragons, but i think the way he ends up getting that would be closer to if you crossed "Breaking Purple" with "The Purple Jacket".

Let me explain.

by this point, Donnie is only just started building stuff. Sure, he read every single technology based book in the library, and proceeded to continue that research via a borrowed library laptop. but before they ended up with Hueso, he didn't dare try much more than maybe dissemble something at the junk yard. Once he's comfortable at Hueso's, he starts taking things apart for the express purpose of seeing if he can put them back together. (sometimes he can, sometimes Hueso has to call a repair man and Donnie can watch them put it back together. it's a win-win in his book.) But beyond that and occasionally tinkering with the Jupiter Jim moon buggy they stole, he hasn't started buildign anything of his own yet.

Then one night, he's out on his own, (not exactly sure why yet, i'll get back to u) and he sees this group of kids at a playground building drones.

Donnie is absolutely fascinated.

He's never seen anyone build tech stuff before, not outside the repair dude and things on youtube. And they're people his own age! Building stuff!! and that stuff is purple!!! So he hides nearby and watches them work for a while, coming back several days in a row just to watch the progress. He's not entirely sure why the drones keep coming back broken, but he loves watching them get repaired.

After watching them for a while, he decides he wants to try to befriend them. Hueso keeps telling them both that they should try to make more friends, why can't these people be them?

So Donnie comes up with a plan.

He decides if he makes his own drone, one that's just as cool (if not cooler) than theirs, they would see he's cool and good with tech too and would want to befriend him as well.

Thus Shelldon is created.

for this AU, Shelldon is purely a drone, created via tech, and a hint of mystics (it was only incorporated so Donnie could communicate mentally with him, but it accidentally made the little dude sentient lol. Yes, Hueso is loosing his damn mind over this.)

So Donnie shows up to the Purple Dragons, visible for the first time, with a little Turtle shaped sentient Drone that he's holding to his chest.

(Purple Dragons think he's weird/creepy b/c he's just standing there letting his drone do all the talking for him.)

They let Donnie stay around, even give him a jacket and pretend to be his friend b/c they want to win that drone race and Shelldon is probably their best bet. But they can see how attached Donnie is to this Drone (if he's not showing Shelldon off, he has him held to his chest) so they know they can't just say "Hey, lets' race your drone in a really dangerous race that wrecks every drone that goes through it." They tried to steal it, but the tracker they put in the jacket keeps "malfunctioning" and leading them to a brick wall and not a home.

Eventually they decide to just ask him to 'borrow' Shelldon for the day. (Donnie only agrees b/c Shelldon himself said he was cool with it. "it's like a sleepover, dude. It will be cool.")

But Donnie's still very worried, so he follows them without beign noticed. (Shelldon might know he's there, but he's not snitching).

Donnie realizes what type of race this is after it starts, and tries to confront them/get Shelldon out of there but the Purple Dragons keep him from interfering.

At least they do until Shelldon gets hurt during the race (just a propeller gets broken and he ends up kinda spiraling to the ground, not getting any further injuries. easy to repair.)

And, well, lets put it this way. He is a very pissed off technokenetic (?) surrounded by a lot of high-grade drones. Shit is going down. (Yes, Donnie can be a little badass, as a treat : ) )

It is quite possible that Leo picked him and Shelldon up from this upon noticing his twin's fury, but yeah. This is how the Purple Dragons got on Donnie's shit list, and, as a bonus, how Shelldon came to be! (at least as far as i know rn.)

Soaring Ever Higher - AO3 Cross-over between CoD and Ace Combat 7. John "Trigger" MacTavish is a fighter pilot, and a damn good one. During one mission, he's paired with Ghost of the infamous TF141. Ghost is to paint the target for Trigger from the ground. It doesn't go as smooth as it should, and Trigger ends up saving Ghost's life. Back on the base, Ghost finds out that Trigger is not quite what he expected him to be...

Okay, your OC is a love interest, what does their first romance cutscene look like?

A/N: Sassy, this is such an amazing question. I hope it’s alright that I did it for my three main idiots (I have another, but he’s just an old man for Jaheira lol). 

Scrungus: (Cowboy lizard)

Being an Oath of Redemption paladin, Scrungus isn’t overly romantic. He’s very kind, but he’s more focused on the wellbeing of the group. The incident with the goblins leaves him a little down, so he’s melancholy post party. The PC has to seek him out. He gives you a little smile, tips his head. If you offer him wine, he politely declines. 

“Had to be done. Couldn’t have ‘em running along the coast, know that. Still…ain’t sitting right. Coulda done more. Shoulda, I reckon.” 

If you mention you would have liked to dance at the party: “Would have been good to see…ain’t much point killin’ if you’re not enjoy living.” 

If you ask him if he knows how to dance, or would have danced with you, he gives you a little grin. Yeah, he picked it up somewhere along the line. In a little village, years back, after a fight just like this. Used to be pretty good. But don’t hold him to it. He’d hate to step on your toes. 

If you point out that the goblins and the Absolute left you no choice: 

He agrees, but finds it unfortunate. Worse folks have turned their back on evil. 

If you go to hold his hand, he chuckles and moves it away. 

No offense meant, but he’s got one responsibility. Gotta see you through the city. No use muddling things. 

You spend the night talking about your past, his, maybe he tells you a story about some absurd devil or demon he talked round to redemption. It’s ridiculous. He lets the PC lean against his shoulder and doesn’t move them when they doze off against his chest. 

Evoi: (Evil, evil, evil AU!Joi; it’s early, and she’s…untempered) 

Goblin-party only. She’s turned on by the stink of carnage and the way you looked while slaughtering the Grove. She makes this very evident, very early into the party, sidling up to the PC, nosing their throat. 

Blood-slick, hunter-kin—soak in carnage, baptize her in your sweet cries. 

She’s going to fuck you. Consent is optional, sorry. Will lick every drop of blood off your character. It’s a lot of kissing and biting. Going to absolutely devour/go down on the PC. You’re her pet now (and she’s obsessive, crazy, generally the worst). 

Joi: (Amnesia Girl)

Joi still has no idea what’s going on or who she is at this point. The scene will have more variance compared to the above, based largely on player input. Most of  her reactions are going to be emulating the PC’s drive. I.e if you’re interested in talking, she’ll be softer and happily talk, but consistently direct the conversation away from her. If the PC is more forward and wants sex, she’ll fall back into that role. 

Is likely very similar to Astarion in that she’s unsure she wants to have sex at that point, but it feels natural, normal, and a way to like…establish rapport. And since she has nothing personal to offer, why not sex? It’s the best she can do. 

If the PC opts to take things more slowly, she’s comforted. Wants to hold the PC’s hand or sit in their lap/beside them. She’s naturally very physical, and the slow!route still reflects that. If the PC asks whether she enjoyed the party, Joi is puzzled and admits that she doesn’t know. Saving the tieflings felt strange, almost wrong, but she likes it. 

Platonic/Slowburn route: Joi asks your PC to tell her about their life, stroking their hair. She thanks the PC for sharing and kisses them. 

Sex route: Joi is enthusiastic, but distant. Leads the encounter, focused on pleasuring PC. The morning after, she is more conflicted and admits she did not sleep well.

in regards to my au…

okay so i am SO making a comic for this once i finish my tattoo concepts and my mini comic but what i was thinking was

everyone has the ability to change sizes. think ant man? (i based it off ant man actually since its a fav movie of mine and i love the concept of giants and humans living together and the comfort aspect is just mmmm-anyway)

but everyone from the ways side can grow. and i mean GROW. like they can become just about any size they want. they can only shrink back to normal size but the reason they live in the east is because people think that ability is useless and destructive when it comes to work, and thus the east side is more rowdy and they’re alleged to go on rampages a lot and the town can’t fund them anymore. also it kinda sticks to the idea that “greasers are stuck as greasers forever” and i have a concept about pony dealing with this internal conflict that comes with said power

everyone from the west side can shrink. it’s not destructive and it’s not “useless” like the east side’s abilities are. they’re able to fix cars by shrinking down and actually getting inside of it, they’re able to clear out infestations, stuff like that. so they obviously get more funding because they aren’t as “destructive” as the east side.

anyway. i like to think it’s kind of a thing that starts at a certain age (i’m leaning towards 13 but also maybe 16 since 16 is technically when a childhood ends-but i’m not sure, anyway) and the first time shrinking and growing can be INTENSE-but also if an extreme emotion is felt it can cause powers to go out of whack (like when darry is yelling at pony for being home late that’s probably an instance where he would not be able to hold on and he’d grow a bit) and so on.

i don’t know exactly what the comic would follow but i do love the idea of greasers being stuck as greasers because you can’t get rid of the ability and pony having to deal with it like that. i’m also kinda thinking about there being some sort of force that doesn’t let people who have grown or shrunk in any capacity to be let into the letter side (this applies either solely or mostly to the east side) and there would obviously be some limits because idk how you’d be able to jump a giant so y’know-

also i think there could be a lot of fluff with the gang, like johnny growing out of control one day and having to be consoled by the gang, or curtis brother fluff-

I love seeing you post snippets of your writing as I go. I took a break from writing while I'm on holiday but now I'm getting back into it but it's slow going. You write so fast, it's incredible! Is there anything you've been really thinking about with your writing?

I started deciding I wanted stronger thesis statements for the writing so if I ever get lost I can refer to those if I wanna find a new direction. Are there any strong themes/ideas you connect to Penguin and the Peacock?

oh i hope the holiday was nice! Also oh I don’t think I write fast I’ve been writing it for a while while unemployed then finished up the last few chapters on those first months of employment where I just sat doing nothing lol and needed to pass the time. So now all I do is edit it on the weekends. heck wait. I think I started writing it somewhere around April last year but maybe longer than that since it’s based on my Batman AU which I’ve been building for longer. Didn’t even consider writing it down actually thought it’ll be too much to write it down but did want to write stories based on it now look where we are.

with the penguin and the peacock I kind of wanted to write riddlebird but also figure out how to get them from well, my versions of riddler and penguin, to the relationship I draw in my drawings? How to get them there? So tried to tackle some points, but well, that’s the main thing but I also wanted to tackle some themes I felt strongly about,

like hey this is what depression is like. Yeah it’s a mess. Yes it doesn’t make sense most of the time. moreover hmm, relationships with, insanely depressed people. Like Oswald’s with his mother. Oswald and Edward’s etc etc. and that’s just on Oswald’s side.

from Edward’s it was, ironically more about love. What does love mean? How do you go about wanting love and attention? When does love become devotion? And when does it become comfort? And when does it become poison?

there’s also the aspect of, taking and giving in relationships. You give and take. But that giving and taking comes from. Parts of your own self. It’s like cutting up your own flesh, no? How do you go about that?

a lot of the times I think I have questions I don’t know the answer to so, as if you’re playing the sims, I put them there and I give them the question and I see how they try to answer them. had a friend ask me how I do it and this was my answer:

Ed and Oswald are fascinating together because well, Ed wants to be loved so badly he could die for it. Oswald wants something to care for or he’d go insane. It should be easy, right? It should click in place automatically, but it doesn’t because they’re not normal about these needs.

more-so, birds as a central theme is important because Oswald is a bird guy no? But an accidental theme I guess is a more religious one, idk how that came to be, actually I do, I thought well, connecting the Falcone’s with a strong religious upbringing can be interesting, wanted to write the scene where Falcone quoted the Bible to Oswald, and it clicked well, but then Oswald is the kind of guy who mimics people especially when he wants to hurt them, so he takes on for a bit, but it’s not a central theme I don’t think it’s just recurring.

You write so poetically, but I have to ask do yoy thi k there's vanity in Arthur like he thinks himself desirable, we know he wants to desired sexually and physicall, but what does he think of himself or what are his observations

thank you!! that's very kind of you to say and this is one of my favourite questions that I've ever gotten. I think it's related to what i posted about Alasdair and vanity which i will try to find.

I think that Arthur is caught in a very painful conflict between a human and understandable want to be desired and hating that about himself. I think he perceives that kind of longing as a fault; and again, tending to extremes, lashes out and removes himself to the point of obvious isolation.

He would largely perceive himself a removed from desire and vanity, stamping out what is very clearly jealousy under the guise being above something so base. Better to scoff at desire than admit to it. In nationverse AUs, characters like Arthur are very often placed in historical contexts where he either ruthlessly adapts to or fails to meet the expected standard of masculinity. What I like as part of his characterisation is the way his body and how he looks can be interpreted-- people write and draw Arthur on scales which play on gendered traits, his body type, how his style choices might reflect his values and relationships. Across all of these interpretations I would argue that some of his core characteristics convey that Arthur's vanity is not so much based on his looks but rather his performance of gender and the role he plays. His vanity has less to do with how attractive he thinks others find him and more with how worthy, how accomplished, how put together. How respected, how powerful, how "masculine".

In contrast, i think that from an outsider's perspective, Arthur is at his best when he is at his least constrained by insecurity. When he just lives in his body. Not at his most accomplished but at his most skilled (the sailor, the gardener). Unpolished and genuine, rough around the edges but freer with his thoughts and his outbursts of emotion. Not at a constant tug of war with an idea of masculinity but rather settling more comfortably into himself, with all of his faults and virtues. The issue in getting him there is that Arthur is self aware but wilfully, stubbornly set in his ways.

One thing that I like writing a lot is Arthur being faced with genuine interest and desire and how that brings him up short. Through all of his faults and insecurities I do think he has managed to convince himself that he does not want or need to be desired quite successfully. He'll jeer and deflect and usually get away with dismissing attraction that he perceives as manipulation, but being faced with irrefutable honesty calls out his bluff. I think it would put him in a position where he doesn't know what to do with himself. Speechless. He has clothed himself so thoroughly in layers of suspicion and scepticism and has built imaginary truths in his head about desire and sex and attraction; so much so that being faced with the real thing throws him for a loop. It would be like pretending that the sky ends where the ceiling starts and looking up one day to find a window, a skylight. The sun, the stars, a gentle breeze. Terrifying, to suddenly know that you can have what you pretend not to need.
